Boss: I need to demo our product but it looks smaller on my laptop.
Me: That is because you have a 1920x1080 monitor and your laptop is 1280x800
Boss: Is that something you can fix?
Me: No you will need a new laptop, but the company has a sales laptop with that resolution.
Boss: No just get the company credit card and buy me one today!
*Bosses son hears*
Bosses Son: Here take the sales laptop
Boss: Will that be quick enough
Bosses Son: It has a 8 core i7 Processor, 16GB ram and a dedicated GPU
Boss: *looks at me confused*
Me: Your demoing a web browser, that will be more then ok. But were using chrome so 16GB of ram will be pushing it.
*me and bosses son laughs*
Boss: Can we upgrade it?17 -
idk why people keep saying Chrome hogs up all the memory
i have 16gb of RAM and it just takes 14gb11 -
My coding behavior:
1. console.log("Hello World");
2. CTRL S
3. this.date=moment();
4. CTRL S
5. const yesterday = this.date
6. CTRL S
7. Open Chrome Browser to preview
8. Accidentally pressed CTRL S and saved that page19 -
Non-dev coworker (ndc) sees me using google chrome: I don't understand why chrome is so popular. I hate it and don't know why anyone would use it.
Me: what browser do you use?
NDC: internet explorer.
Me: why do you like ie better than chrome?
NDC: it does everything chrome can do and it's free.
Me: ie can NOT do everything chrome can do and chrome is free. You just have to download it from google.
NDC: no I read that chrome is proprietary software and why would I pay to use it when ie is free.
Me: ie is also proprietary software. Proprietary doesn't necessarily mean it costs money it's just not open source. Plus ie is not free. You paid for it when you bought the windows license that came with your computer.
NDC: no ie was already on the computer when I bought it so I didn't have to pay for it.
Me: it was included in the price of the computer but you still paid for it.
NDC: whatever I'm going to keep using ie because it's free for me.
ARE YOU RETARDED???27 -
Lol, Microsoft finally gave up on Edge, and will go with a spin based on Chromium.
https://m.windowscentral.com/micros...
🤣 I was right when I said that Chrome is going to be the next internet explorer55 -
So a group of 'researchers' (you'll get later why I call them 'researchers') conducted research to find the most secure browser.
Their result is Google Chrome!
Few minor details:
- THE WHOLE FUCKING RESEARCH THINGY WAS (mostly?) SPONSORED BY GOOGLE.
- THEY COMPARED IT MOSTLY TO INTERNET FUCKING EXPLORER AND EDGE.
Are they fucking retarded or something?! Yeah if it's going to go like that, Google Chrome will certainly become the winner/number 1.
Mother of fucking god.65 -
Was over at a friend's place for the first time in months again to just have a few drinks and some good time with two of my best friends when I wanted to show them a website.
Had my own phone turned off (NO phone use while socializing for me!) so asked one of them (the one who's still finding his way around the concept of online privacy) for their phone so I could show it.
He uses loads of Google things so I started to look for the chrome icon. Swiping all ways but couldn't find it... then suddenly:
DuckDuckGo search/browser icon!
😵😯
Me: dude the what?! YOU using a more privacy conscious browser?!?!?!
Friend: well, Google doesn't need to know EVERYTHING I search for online so I looked if ddg had an app and voila!
Me: de damn! And, how do you like it?
Friend: the results are good so nothing to complain about!
I'm proud of you, mate!8 -
If the Firefox Quantum is really good then you don't need to say:
"Chrome will become obsolete"
"I hope Chrome dies"
"Chrome's dead, long live Firefox"
to prove that it's a great browser. Fanboys always ruins nice experiences.14 -
To celebrate Quantum release, let's share your must have add-ons for your browser(s).
Mine :
- bitwarden,
- ublock origin,
- jsonovich,
- feedbro
- rested
- error indicator
That's all.
Screenshot and pocket are already included with Firefox and work great. Chrome needs extensions for those though. I used to have disconnect and ghostry in past.45 -

me: Just to be clear, we're only supporting chrome?
boss: Yes.
* few days later *
QA: I have a lot of bugs to report, the bosses asked me to test the app in all browsers10 -
My boss caught me out the other day. He asked which browser do we test on. In our documentation it's ff chrome and ie10. In reality it's not ie.
I opened ie for the first time in a long time the other day to find a crap load of bugs. Including the attached.3 -
Photo I took last week.. I thought there is some virus heating up my laptop.. but then I figured out .. it was chrome browser and extremely hot weather 46.7℃7

Google is not even hiding their efforts in controlling the internet and holding sites for ransom:
https://theverge.com/2019/11/...
They will happily put a "badge of shame" on slow loading sites and I think this is just to force more sites to use AMP.
Fuck google. and I mean it. Firefox really is the last "FREE" browser available for us who care about this shit.
on the other hand, I hate the whole "Modern Web" shit. So if what google is doing will take it down then by all means, go fuck it up google.18 -
We recently got a new trainee (Not sure if its correct germans correct me i mean "Praktikant"). This guy studied computer Engineering and canceld his studies to work as a developer. So this guy is working on a typo 3 Page for a Client and asks me for help because He got a follding error. Im in the last year of My studies btw. He sends me very Bad formatted HTML template file. I quickly correct the formatting and fix the 3 open Tags That He forogt to Close. send it back to him and walk to his workplace to See him integrate it to his own code again. He Double clicks the HTML file an Google Chrome opens. He then looks at me and says and Where is the code. I say to him That he just opened the HTML file with his Browser. And He responds with yes but i wanted to See the code Not this.
Im done for today 😑😑11 -
Apple at its finest. Sold the iPhone I used to own. Wanted to remove from iCloud. Open chrome on my Android device and was greeted with unsupported browser. Funny thing is it works if I tick open as desktop website.
Ffs apple. Your safari browser is the new IE of browsers. Yes my device is supported. Yes for Christ sake it can render stuff. It's not an old Nokia... Who even thought it was remotely a good idea to restrict mobile access...5 -
Storytime
A story about an Android TVbox which decided to become an iPad
Several years ago we've bought an android tv-box.
It served me and my family well for several years.
Specs are not that important in this story, but there they are:
Android 4.4
1GB RAM
Amlogic quadcore 1.4HGz
8GB memory.
This device served us well - online TV, browsing, music, file sharing and so on. But recently cheap Chinese memory deciteed to take a break and damaged ROM. Because of that device won't boot. The only option was to take it apart and "short circuit" certain legs on memory chip and make it boot from SD card and install new firmware. After such operations tv-box worked well again.
Hoverer, memory glitched again and again and this algorithm was repeated for several months.
But that is not what is this story about.
One day memory went completely crazy and there was no way to install new firmware on it. It just hanged on install. (BTW, it was official firmware for this device)
But after countless attempts it finally worked! It installed the firmware and booted into launcher and connected to WiFi!
But now comes the most interesting part.
It was not android anymore.
It decided to became an iPad.
My dad logged in to his Google account via tv-box and got mail that someboby connected from our IP via iPad (we don't have an iPad) and using safari browser! Stock browser is not safari browser.....
"Ok, nvm, crazy glitch." - we thought.
But preinstalled play marked wont launch. Because he told us, that we're trying to connect from iPad.
And Google chrome page suggested to download chrome for iPad
And everything was acting like it is an iPad.
OK, downloaded iTunes, why not??? ._.
Tried to install elixir for android via apk from flash, but then memory glitched one more time, everything went black and tv-box had damaged ROM again...
After that we decided to not torment it anymore...
That's it. Poor Android TVbox that all his life dreamed to become an iPad. Rest in peace.2 -
So lately I’ve been sending an http request with ajax instead of using classic form submit. Pdf and images need to be converted into byte64 string then send it to the backend, problem is if the size gets too big chrome crashes and showed me ‘Aw snap’, but it works on firefox. Thr file is size could be 3 to 100 mb (for pdf). So my question; is this my problem or just browser limitation?16
-
I tried the beta version of Mozilla Firefox Browser.
I opened 10 sites which consists of social media, email and youtube. And I found out it consumes less RAM resources than Google Chrome. Not bad Mozilla.
Here is an article about it: https://thenextweb.com/tech/2017/...25 -
WHAT THE FUCK, AVAST!
You can't just fucking unbind chrome from my taskbar and pin your fucking trash excuse of a browser.
Reading the fucking Wikipedia article:
"It is based on Chromium, but was subsequently found to contain a serious security flaw not present in Chromium itself."
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!39 -
You know that guy that types www.google.com in the omnibox in the Chrome browser. I work with him... 😑8
-
Freaking tech support.
Freaking sparkhire.
Their 'one-way interview' bs only supports flash. Flash. in production. in 2019. Flash died years ago, and its support ends next year. What the crap?
Anyway, I finally decided I should do the interview since they already have all of my information anyway. Thanks, "privacy-conscious" third party. Totally appreciate it.
I spent half an hour and couldn't get flash working on their site (but all other sites were fine), so I contacted their support. I gave them all the relevant specs (inc. ofc browser), the steps to reproduce, and all of my attempts at fixing the issue.
To their credit, I recieved a response within a few minutes. To their discredit: their response was: "What browser are you using?" This question was followed by my report (including, ofc, my browser and all the other overlooked details), immediately followed by a "debugging info" section appended by their support service that also included my browser, os, and other specs.
Learn to fucking read.
Their suggestion? Use google chrome. Barring that: record your 20-30 minute video by holding your phone in front of your face the entire time. I am so not kidding.
They also asked what page i was having difficulty on. You guessed it: the page url was also included within that "debugging info" section.
It wasn't a form letter, either. I'd understand if it was all automated, but it was a real person who was really typing up the emails, and really didn't bother reading a damned thing.
I did end up getting flash working, but their "tech support" (script-reader) was entirely useless.16 -
In the distant year of 2022.
Safari changes its logo to more appropriately reflect its position as the new Internet Explorer.
Chrome monopolized the spyware market and is facing another antitrust investigation.
Mozilla finally managed to fire all the developers working on Firefox and replaced them with highly trained dead monkeys.
Brave successfully consolidates itself as a cryptocurrency wallet and leaves the browser space.
Edge has two new users.
Who the **** is Vivaldi8 -
Not an office prank, but when I was in high school we had some public computers and I switched some shortcuts for chrome and internet explorer, so when you clicked chrome, something that should not be called a browser would open.
And than I got the brilliant idea: I wrote a script camuflagged as a chrome icon that would launch 100 internet explorers. Legend says that people are still raging to this day.6 -
Yesterday, my girlfriend caught a virus. There were 5+ running programs, in program files, program files x86, system32, basically everywhere. The virus modified chrome, firefox, edge (and even installed a false uc browser assuming we had one), there are many entries at startup programs, also running daemons, once you kill one of them, the others detect it and replicate their killed fellows. Tried to run a linux live usb disk for a cleanup, but the computer hibernates instead of shutdown, making modifications on disk risky.
I spent hours trying to suppress the processes, do a manual cleanup and antivirus search. It looked all cleaned up, then I reinstalled chrome, and now it switches its homepage everytime I open it, it also injects batch arguments to desktop link forum chrome (deleting it manually does not help, it comes back). I'm a linux guy, and in a few hours, I hated windows more than ever.
If anybody knows the authors, I *really* want to meet them. I promise I'm not going to punch them, but kneel down, bow my head in respect, and say "teach me master."14 -
Firefox is not a “chrome alternative”. Firefox is a better browser. Even if we completely keep the chromium privacy out of question, Firefox is still faster and Firefox devtools are still waaaay superior.13

Somebody asked on how to get started on Full Stack web application development.
This is how I got started.
Client side Web Application Development:
---------------------------------------------------------------
• Start with basic HTML, CSS and JS, JSON. For quick learning, see W3Schools for these topic or YouTube it.
• Get a local web server. "200 OK!" webserver chrome extension is a good start. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...)
• Learn Chrome Dev Tools to debug the pages. YouTube it.
• Get a good IDE. I am very happy with VSCode. You can use it for very serious WebApps.
• Start learning JavaScript language in depth, but just related to Web Browser related topic or you would get sucked in server side too early.
• Install node.js. Learn NPM package manager. Learn basic node commands.
• Learn complexity of JS file referencing, JS modules in browser. Just learn, don't use it yet, to understand the benefits of code bundlers.
• Learn Webpack code bundler.
• Learn how to make you simple site much faster and using in Mobile using "Progressive Web Apps".
• Now learn to make modular UIs. I love React. Focus on getting the UI code modulear. Create Single Page sites. (You are not there yet to create a Web App) “Create-React-App” started kit is a good starting point.
• Learn to create multi-page site using React-router.
• Learn application state management using Redux.
• Learn to create application decision engine using Redux-Saga.
Practice and master each stage.
Along above, learn git / GitHub (to learn from others code), find good web resources like Medium / Smashing magazine, good YouTube channels etc. I subscribed to some popular Udemy courses too.
Server side Web development:
------------------------------------------
:) First learn client side Web Application development. Server side learning is another story.3 -
I disabled javascript in my browser. Amount of shit loading to read shitty article is insane.
I opened chrome devtools and it was 300 requests and 10MB to read 500 words.
Another news portal 250 requests 7MB to see 300 words.
WTF ?
And they’re fighting with internet traffic by lowering movie quality ?
I just add I have pihole with lots of wildcard filters filtering half of internet and fucking adblocker and those numbers are after those filters.
Are you fucking out of your mind ?
Fucking hypocrites.17 -
People complaining about Microsoft pushing MS-Edge are clearly not using the YouTube mobile app, this shit pushes their premium shit and YouTube music every fucking day. MS you get ONE pop up when you change default browser and they are done! Also Google products one concurrent browsers ? You get that nice yellow message telling you you're not using chrome but people just like to tell shit about MS like it's the national sport or something well fuck you and fuck Google5

Had to setup 7 HP laptops today for a small hackathon.
Install windows 10...
just shout in the room and hope all cortanas hear the same answer.
done after a couple minutes.
Windows 10 rules.
...
This story could be over but no, have a plot twist.
All pcs connected to our wifi network as we tried to install Chrome ( cause edge sucks), realized it takes hours to install.
someone drawing internet over here?!
our network wasn't that bad usually.
opens windows store on one laptop by accident.
42 downloads running.
Yep on all of them.
what were they downloading?
candy crush... bubble witch saga...mcaffee.
spent about 4h uninstalling bloatware and teaching windows not to reinstall it over and over again...
Microsoft sucks...
and I didn't even mention the "tell us why you think you don't need McAfee premium protection pl0x" and "you really sure you don't want to try edge as default browser? is really fast and stuff" dialog fields...9 -
I noticed several people blaming the new Chrome update for breaking their CSS. From what I know Chrome did not "break" anything. Using browser quirks, experimental features, and deprecated code typically results in this. When you see a "neat trick" on a blog, Stack Exchange, JsFiddle, whatever, be sure to research what you are about to implement. Especially if it has a post date older than 2 years.4
-
Waiting for the perfect browser :
1. It's not Safari or IE and without their shitty problems.
2. It's not a RAM gobbler like Chrome. But has its minimal UI.
3. Has Chrome like dev tools or Firebug and nothing less than those.
4. Does not have ads.
5. Cross platform. On both desktop and mobile.
6. Web extensions only
7. Everyone loves it. Even fanboys who swear by Safari
8. Blocks annoying pop ups on some sites.
You're open to contribute more points!35 -
I never thought a browser will come close to Chrome. But wow, Vivaldi is AWESOME. It's really fast and the tab organization is just amazing.
I just MS doesn't buy it soon :|7 -
I should not have looked at this really interesting Chrome extension.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...
It tries to prevent phishing links from working by adding attributes to change the behaviour of the browser.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Just one simple line:
$('[target="_blank"]').attr("rel", "noopener noreferrer");
But why is this extension so bloated?
It loads the full jQuery library. For an attribute change!
I'd like to refer to this site for further investigations: http://youmightnotneedjquery.com//...

When a colleague left their computer without logging out, I created a shortcut to internet explorer, named it Google Chrome, and changed the icon to Chrome's icon. I couldn't remove Chrome's shortcut from the desktop or modify it because I didn't have permissions, so I turned of icon snapping and dragged it off the screen. I also replaced Chrome in the task bar with my fake icon. I then set the Internet Explorer to open a bunch of useless pages when it opens, set it to the default browser, and changed the search engine to Yahoo!18

Your most paranoic internet experience?
Several years ago, I was going to watch my first porn movie, and I was so afraid of the porn page publishing on my facebook "Elizadeath liked Xporn.net" or something like that (I had family on my facebook friends) so I:
1.- Used an old tablet (even its screen was crashed)
2.- Removed all email accounts (it has Android)
3.- Uninstalled all the social media apps, including youtube
4.- Put a piece of tape on the frontal camera
5.- Bought new headphones
6.- Navigated at the Android's default browser instead of Chrome, and in "secret" mode
7.- Deleted the cache and history after watching the movie XD
What's your experience?23 -
I am still working on the devrant toolbox extension (for firefox and chrome).
This is how it looks in my browser (firefox). The colorset is "solarized light", but there will be dark modes also.
What do you think about the dual frame layout with the feed on the left and the rant on the right? Would you use that?11 -
Lets have a talk Windows. Why did you open Edge when I set my default browser to Chrome? I am very disappointed in you.
-
This is the last straw. I am so done with Chrome.
…
I woke up AGAIN this morning to my MacBook shining away brightly, having not gone to sleep the ENTIRE night. I did some better research this time and discovered it's actually Chrome that is causing this.
Yes Chrome is deciding whether my MacBook goes to sleep or not.
I am not ok with this. Worse, it doesn't even have any ability to change this behavior. It's basically a hidden "feature" of Chrome: it wastes your hydro too!
This is not the first time this has happened either. Last time my MacBook wasn't properly plugged in and it completely drained the battery, shutting it right off. I ranted about that already.
But I am just SO fucking livid about this right now. What on EARTH is going through google's mind that they think this is in any way even REMOTELY acceptable?
I've already filed a bug report but I think this is the last straw. I am just sick to death of Chrome. This bug is literally costing me money and damaging my property.
Shove it right up your fucking ass, Google. Right up there and twist it around.
I'm switching back to a real browser.32 -
// Snippet
if(isUsingEdgeOrIE(window.navigator.userAgent)){
window.location.assign("https://google.com/chrome/browser/");
}
*sigh*
People laugh at it when you say Internet Explorer is a Pain in the *ss to develop for, because they think it's just a cliché or some sort and think it's not that bad.. but no .. really.. F*ck IE.. :D It f*cked me over so many times..
"Oh Hey, I don't recognize this basic html attribute value you are using, so I'm not going to report an error in the console or so, ima let you search, sweat, get angry, .. Oh Hey, you're not using the right doctype? Let me crash your entire javascript functionality, .. Oh Hey, this CSS selector? I never heard of it.. "8 -
FUCK Windows 10 and it's HATEFUL tendency to open everything with FACKING Edge even though it overrides that the default browser is chrome. Especially fucking Skype for business.
Fack Skype too10 -
this is ridiculous...
I have to use a tool that only works on IE browser. (yes, I know, sucks. Regardless...)
1. open up the IE. Navigate to https://google.com
2. google is opened in Edge instead
3. Edge insists on setting Edge as default
4. google.com loads up and insists on installing and using Chrome as default.
... I just wanted to search for stuff and instead, I got 2 offers to change my browser....8 -
Chrome is making me refactor my js every once in a while!
She comes up with new ways to show me my errors4 -
I fucking hate the Safari browser to death.
This piece of disk space waste is 50% of the reason why I have to spend hours to find out what the fuck is incorrectly displaying or not working on W.I.P. websites.
The other 50% is Edge, IE <=11 and Firefucks.
Just for piss smelling Safari, I need to either run a VM with Crapple OS X for debugging or borrow a Crapbook from $randomPerson.
Is it fucking not possible to compile Safari blowser to run on Linux or Winblows?
Eventhough I'm disgusted about Google and its privacy and data mining policies, Chrome is the most decent browser there is on the whole digital world. It only happens extremely rarely that something is not working/displaying as expected during development.
Most browser developers seem to be useless pubes eaters and like to shower with curd soap.13 -
Certified Enganeers: 0, Internet Connectivity Issues: 1
Those idiots couldn't even understand why I'd connected a second router (a DLink DIR 816) for better WiFi than their default garbage modem/router. And one of them told me that he'd login to the router by "putting the address in Google" (and proceeded to type 192.168.1.251 in the search bar, after I explained to him that Firefox was a browser too, just like Chrome -.-)
And they didn't even fix the problem, which is most probably on their end since everything checks out here. Brilliant. More shitty 3G/4G for me.
YOU CERTIFIED PIECES OF CRAP4 -
No offence to anyone but I'm wondering why so many people go for Google chrome while chromium browser provides about the exact same browsing experience and speed etc but without Google's proprietary tracking shit. I know not everyone cares about their privacy but still wondering.13
-
Dear, google chrome browser. Please stop taking up so much RAM. You are a browser not a game. Worst browser ever.13
-
While testing on IE11 today I noticed a smiley face in the upper left corner that brings up a context menu with the options "Send a smile" and "Send a frown".
Turns out that is how you send browser feedback on IE11, the frown being the ability to report a site, and the smile to give positive feedback on the browser.
Turns out you can't send negative feedback for the browser, so I sent positive feedback. What did it say?
"What did you like?"
- How fast google chrome downloaded.1 -
SPA I made:
- works on any major desktop browser(Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Vivaldi) on Windows and arch
- works on any browser on any Android phone (version >= 4.x.x)
- Works on a freaking fridge
- Does not work on iPhone ...wtf apple6 -
Add a random string (like "AnyBrowser/1.2.3") to your user agent string, and get warnings about unsupported browsers, reduced functionality, and Google drive completely refusing to start at all.
It's the very same browser, just another user agent string. Ever heard of feature detection? Ever heard of usability, accessibility, progressive enhancement? How can developers be so lost in 2022?
I just tried to reproduce the reason why Vivaldi stopped adding their brand to user agent strings but sails under false flag pretending to be Google chrome. So it doesn't show up in browser statistics either and Google people can keep thinking everyone is using their shitware.3 -
Formatted my laptop,download chrome through edge and went to change default browser and I see this..........
Microsoft begging lol6 -
Well done, Google Chrome, you ate most of my 16 GB of RAM! >:v
P.D. I said "most of" because of the memory allocation table5 -
Am I the only one who lets friends and relatives always browse on my computer on the OS-default browser like Safari or IE. So they don't disturb my precious tabs and log in Chrome? 😂5

When you ctrl+s a jdfiddle, codepen, gmail composer, facebook post and the annoying save page as comes out2

Whatsapp: "How about you update your browser?"
How about you fire your whole fucking team of genetically engineered super-retards, that is making whatsapp shittier with ever recently rotten braincell you guys claim to have, and just let me use your shitty spyware I need to use for the time being. Fucking hell don't you even dare pulling that bullshit excuse on me when my browser is based on chromium Aka the fucking same browser engine that is powering google chrome. Just for once stop playing along with google, take your update and put it where the sun doesn't shine, you data-whoring deadshits.9 -
tired of my tor browser not letting me do my job (still configuring settings, but it's taking too long and i'm getting tired of it), and chrome doesn't show my mouse pointer (which works everywhere else on my machine).
Time to go back to firefox. downloading nightly this time, though. thoughts on it? any default settings I should change for security or to make it better in general?11 -
Old rant here. Took place ~2 years ago and just remembered it recently:
For some reason our company decided to disable incognito mode in Chrome... Wtf, who comes up with that shit?!
Our team has different certificates to test our application and therefore the private mode comes in quite useful. Otherwise you would need to close and reopen all browser instances again.
At least, after a shitstorm from various teams they unblocked incognito again.5 -
Spent 4 hours debugging a “button” styling, worked fine locally but not on production.!
After striking out “cache” issues, “browser” versions, “fonts”, “sass errors” the error was with a stupid chrome extension that appended a css class attribute to the “HTML” tag 😡
And the other developer thought that was a part of what was written in the code !!
Hate these kinda plugins that manipulate the DOM 😪
P S the plugin is "Grammarly".2 -
Yesterday a strange bug appeared in Chrome: In a small web app we have some umlaut characters like äöü. Strangely said characters were displayed as cyrillic, but only on my pc... On every other device it worked. I spent about 5 hours of checking encodings (everything was in UTF-8), reading posts in the almighty stackoverflow.
Finally i figured out, the font was broken. After reinstalling it, everything was peaceful again in my head. -
And today on My Strange Addiction: Browser Tabs and the People That Never Close Them. - seriously, when you have 38 tabs open and your sandwich menu is red, just stop. It takes all of a minute to close Chrome and restart it.15

Just added an RSS feed to my blog (https://nixmagic.com/rssfeed.xml/ if you're interested), and as I was testing it out in an RSS reader, I noticed that the reader basically just renders the webpage as if it were a web browser.
Heh.. I have only the Webkit engine on my computer, so I suppose it's just using that in the backend or something like that? How much RAM does that consume?
*looks at Task Manager*
67MB. I shit you not.. 67 megabytes. And that is rendering an entire website with no noticeable differences from a regular web browser.
Chrome: *gobble*8 -

Heres a Tip someone showed me a while back, thought I shared it here if somebody didn't knew. It works with Browser bookmarks and keywords that you assign.
Use-case:
typing "java: String" into the search bar will show searchresults in Google that only returns Pages from the Java API about Strings.
Steps:
1.Search for "https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/...: %s" in Google.
2.Bookmark it
3.Edit the Bookmark and assign the Keyword "java: "
4.??? (Search "java: Sring". duh)
5.Profit!!1!1
Use-case:
Or typing "stack: help" will search for help in stack overflow.
Steps:
Search %s in SO, bookmark and assign a keyword.
As far as I know this works in FF and Chrome. Cheers2 -
One more reason to hate Windows - Changing default browser will be made difficult in Windows 11. Thank you Microsoft

Chrome (Chromium based browser) / Firefox (and variants) / IE (fuck it) tabs challenge
Me : 148 tabs
Beat me!
How to participate:
1. Post the screenshot of your tabs.
2. Count them.
3. Tell your browser.
Things to consider:
- Chrome (Chromium based browser) / Firefox (and variants) / IE (fuck it) should not lag (let's be honest)
- Max 8GB RAM (or whatever)
- Each page should have SOMETHING
- No mobile browsers, only desktop (linux welcome)
----------------------------------
cozyplanes: 148 tabs / Vivaldi (Chromium)16 -
I've got a rant-type question:
Why would you EVER use Google Chrome?
There are a million browsers in the world, you could've used Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, Brave, Bad Wolf, Qute, st, Epiphany etc, but you chose to uss Google Chrome.
What would be the reason you would ever choose Google Chrome over any of the million browsers, out of which many of them get the job done much better than Chrome? Okay, I get it why you might use IE or Edge, cause you might be too lazy to install any other browser or you just want the performance benefits you get with Edge which totally, most definatelly, a very big plus point for Edge.
*"Chrome has a balanced-bloat out of all browsers"*
But how tf does that matter? That doesn't even help performance wise anyways.
I can't get over the fact that I have to see/hear about 'Chrome hogging RAM' EVERYWHERE. Like, why do you even care about the god damn browser? Why is it a standard over the million other browsers that exist? Why can't the general public be educated that browsers have choices (just like phones) and you don't have to spit crap over people who don't use Chrome.
It just drives me crazy of how many people hate Chrome, and still it's a 'default' browser.
I would quote Vivaldi (the company/browser):
'A browser should adapt to you, not the other way around.'
(Disclaimer: Rant of a former Firefox, qute, st, Opera, OperaGX, Edge, and ofcourse, Chrome user. Currently in deep love with Vivaldi.)
I'm done ranting. Have a nice day!
(My first post here, if I did something wrong, let me know! I'll make sure I don't do it again!)55 -
I was changing the default browser to Chrome, then I got this message.
Shall I stop using other browsers and use Edge instead because of the so convincing message.4 -
Isn’t it ironic that the only browser that can’t deal with Google Calendar’s importing is Chrome? It has been broken for months now.5
-
From yesterday, I have made Firefox Developer edition my primary browser replacing chrome.
So far it's doing a great job. Its feel fast as chrome.
Some google site like docs or spreadsheet is lagging sometimes.
I still click on chrome time to time without realizing.
Let's see how far I can do with this experience.18 -
What mobile browser do you all use? I used to use Chrome, then tried Firefox. But oh my God that was the worst browser I have ever used on my phone. It was slow as hell and refused to load 2/3 of the sites quickly.
Now I'm trying chrome canary and Via.13 -
Web dev prob:
When you modify a code then refresh your browser, It doesn't change anything and you think your code has the problem, Modifies 100+ lines and refreshed the page, still nothing happens. Asked someone about it, Fix? Fucking cache! Fuck you google chrome!10 -
Here's an even meaner prank. Make it just a tad more difficult on them.
Set chrome in kiosk mode, so they can't switch out of the browser.
Unfortunately 'Alt + F4' still works, but they'd have to know that ahead of time.
And then kill off `explorer.exe` so they can't press the windows key.
You can either set this up as a bat, or you can do all of this from the Task Manager.
```
chrome --chrome-frame --kiosk "http://fakeupdate.net/win10/"
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
```
And to really piss them off, set it up such that every time they reboot it just goes straight to the update screen
You can set Chrome to run as the Windows shell instead of explorer.exe. Just set the registry
```
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Shell =
[chrome path]
APPLE IM GONNA BURN YOU WITH GASOLINE.
So i want to send my build to app store, from my iphone.
I want to log into iTunesConnect.
"It just works"
Yeah, right. Login page for itunesconnect does not render correctly on Safari web browser, on iphone, login arrow is not visible, and elements are scattered around.
Grrrrrrr.
On Google Chrome, it looks okay!!!!!!!!!!!
Spartaaaaaaaaaa.
After some tapping on screen, and rotating the device, i somehow found invisible arrow and managed to sign in.
BUT. Once inside i was unable to complete the process because UI refuses to scroll down :(
The pain...14 -
So I've got a few stories, but the first one goes like this:
>> Spring semester last year
>> Likely have the best grade in a front end web dev class
>> Has a file on a server that we used for this class.
>> Copies HTML file to desktop from server
>> Opens desktop file in VS (or VSCode, I forgot lol)
>> Opens server HTML file in chrome
>> Edits the file
>> Browser doesn't change.
>> "What to fuck?"
>> Clears cache
>> Doesn't change anything
>> Closes and reopens Chrome
>> Still no change
>> 'Yo what the fuck???"
>> Calls professor over to get help
>> Explains problem
>> Instantly realize I'm a dip shit and open the desktop HTML file in Chrome and see the changes I made2 -
Context:
Me, Front-end Developer, Javascript stuff
---
Junior Dev: Hey xxzer0, could you help me with this? I spent the entire day on it and at this point, I think I just broke Chrome.
xxzer0: *---* Okay, let me see.
Junior Dev: Do you see it? I am updating the Javascript code but it's not working at all. The browser is not even loading it... Literally, the code I just wrote is not there.
**
Now be me, be the fucking idiot I was and I have been my whole life, I already knew what was going on because I lost a fucking day on it as this guy.
**
xxzer0: Well, let me see just one thing...
'Open Chrome Dev Tools' -> 'Network' -> 'Disable Cache'.
xxzer0: Now try again...
Junior Dev: What are you..doi........ IT'S WORKING! O.O
Chrome, I love you but sometimes I wish you could make this more "accessible" to newcomers.5 -
Oh FML. The main browser-based tool I use is now only working on MS Edge. IT insists this is the only route to the app. Won’t work on Chrome at all. All my habits have to be uprooted now and I have deal with Edge’s stupid quirks from here to eternity.12
Oh look, all 40 replies are people complaining that the poster is using Chrome in the first place and telling them to just move to firefox, vivaldi, opera or any other browser... Thanks guys, real fucking helpful!9 -
Pull-to-refresh in mobile web browsers is useless and annoying.
In mid-2019, the #disable-pull-to-refresh-effect option was removed from chrome://flags on Chrome for Android (version 76) for no apparent reason. The top answer in the Google product forum was to beg for this option to be reinstated through the browser's feedback form ( http://web.archive.org/web/... ). Needless to say, that has been futile.
Why is that a problem? The pull-to-refresh gesture not only is unnecessary due to the quickly accessible refresh button in the menu right next to the URL bar, but also causes unsolicited refreshes when quickly scrolling to the top of the page. This drains both the battery and the mobile data plan, in addition to adding an annoying delay.
I would like to use my web browser like a web browser, not a social media app. Besides, the Twitter web app has its own pull-to-refresh implementation in the notification feed.
Without pull-to-refresh, the user has the freedom to scroll up quickly without risking inadvertently reloading the page. If media was playing while an unwanted pull-to-refresh occurs, the user needs to seek for the last playing position, which could take upwards of a minute if the last position is unknown.
Imagine a desktop/laptop web browser reloading because you scroll against the top. Imagine you reach the top of the page but you have not stopped turning the scroll wheel yet, and then a white circle with a blue spinning refresh icon appears at the center top of the window and the page, and then you have to wait for the page to finish loading, and you also need to seek the last playing position of a video or audio track. Wouldn't that be ridiculous?
Any web browser vendor that enforces pull-to-refresh on its users basically begs users to seek an alternative.7 -
Okay so today I opened a link to buy a screen for my Raspberry pi on my phone(Chrome browser) and was simultaneously using FB on my Laptop in mozilla.
And that very moment I had ads on FB to but that screen.
Now I know it's nothing new, but at the moment of realization it just felt so creepy.
Privacy literally doesn't exist anymore!18 -
Today I had a dinner with several members of my family. At some point my uncle decided to bring up ‘tech stuff’ so we can talk about it. Nevertheless, few seconds in he was trying to convince me that IE is the best browser, being far superior than firefox, chrome etc.
I just nodded and started talking about how HTML is the language to learn if you want to be a dev 😅😂4 -
I have to wonder if I've woken up in some kind of Escher-like warped surrealist world, as I've just used Chrome to download and install Internet Explorer 11.
As an note, IE11 was nice enough not to replace Chrome as the default browser.3 -
I built a chrome extension that brings a digital rubber duck to your browser for debugging, companionship and laughs - the perfect companion for a dev. :)
The logo was inspired from Devrant's ducks too, and the project is open source.
You'll find the GitHub repo here - https://github.com/rameshaditya/...
Do give it a star if you like it, that would make my day! :)3 -
Seattle's light rail transit signs are just a full screen Chrome web browser. On another crash, I saw a Windows blue screen. Why would you pay for a Windows license just to run a browser that displays transit times?6
Today, I say farewell to a piece of software that has shared my professional uprising as a dev, today I let go off an old friend, today i uninstall chrome, after nearly 12 years of dedication, hard work and pain staking performance issues from time to time, you went from the child star that fixed what was wrong with browsers back in 2008, and became the abusive man child that crashes my system when I open you now, so enough with your bullshit.
Today I transfer my things to Edge(chromium) and say farewell old friend, there's only so many BSOD's you can cause just by launching a new tab without hardware acceleration before I can not stand the sight of you anymore.
I wish you a good and stable life, but your creators obviously couldn't give a fuck anymore about being the "light weight and fast" browser you once were.rant all good things come to an end chrome 11 years of freindship trading you in for a new model edge bye bye9 -
Just finished a rant about rererereinstalling windows (sorry, in a ranty mood), and now I have another reason to rant. Not the 10 new and exciting bloatware apps. Again. Lovely. No, this rant is about Edge.
You know, the new browser Microsoft is soo excited about (or was when it came out)? Just found out that it won't connect to Googles links to download chrome (tried 4-5). Because, you know, I might need to develop something. Incredible. That's some pretty high level *insertSpecialWords* from the Microsoft Edge team. "uhhhhh so your Highness, sir customer destructinator sir, our browser isn't that great. Everyone is still using chrome."
"how about we stop them from downloading that freaking amazing browser. That should stump them."
"wonderful sir! Amazing. We'll implement that straight away."
>:(
There's even a try this list of "suggestions" to fix this "problem". Including:
> Make sure you've got the right web address.
And my personal favorite, is less subtle:
>search for what you want!
Umm, I did. And then you blocked me from doing the one thing that I would realistically use this browser for. Aaand after the windows 10 forced update debacle, I'm not feeling especially "friendly" towards windows' "suggestions".
No worries though. I installed Firefox (not blocked) just to install chrome. Great job Microsoft.
10/109 -
Just when I was about to watch the Downton Abbey clips on YouTube I realize that my Firefox went completely silent without warning.
So the latest Firefox 52.0 decided to drop ALSA and force users to use pulseaudio instead. Otherwise the only way is to recompile the source with the alsa option enabled, or downgrade.
What the actual fuck Mozilla? Who made this decision? What's the reason behind? So far Firefox is the only browser that is having the sound problem.
Nope. not another bloated package. Maybe I should switch over to Chrome.4 -
Doing browser detection the wrong way, probably dictated by Google marketing policy: any Chromium browser is supported by Google Docs - unless the user agent string contains the "Vivaldi" keyword.
"Issues" like this made the Vivaldi team remove their brand from their default user agent string long ago, effectively hiding the browser's market share in stats, as it will be counted as Google Chrome adding to Chrome's market share.10 -
It begins..
Here I am just tryna browse a site and this stupid attempt to trick me into falling for a scam pops up. There is no way to stop the pop up because I can’t tap anything fast enough. Not even restarting the browser because it remembers this as the last URL it had accessed. Looks like I have to uninstall and reinstall chrome. Honestly, if you’re a scammer, what the hell is the point of doing this? What idiot is going to call the number? All it does is annoy you to the point of suspicion. Or maybe there are people stupid enough!?7
Did you know, that you can just type 'thisisunsafe'? This will tell Chrome to skip certificate validation 🤯1
What the fuck Microsoft !! Your android apps are total piece of shit! Fucking outlook Android app don't have support to view doc file which is created using your shitty Microsoft teams portal.
If I click on that doc file link through my outlook app, you redirect me to chrome.
Ok that's still acceptable. But the real shit starts now. You tell me that your browser isn't supported! Is this fucking joke?? Who in the world develops a website which can't support latest version of Android chrome?
Now that I have installed your shitty Microsoft teams app, it doesn't show up in "open with" options. Clicking on that link is still redirecting to the chrome saying that browser is unsupported.
Also, your shitty Microsoft teams app can't edit fucking doc file. When I click on your Microsoft word icon, You again ask me to install Android app for Microsoft word.
Seriously fuck you Microsoft and your shitty apps!1 -
Google: we want to crack down on adblockers in Chrome and remove APIs. If we threw out Chrome store extensions that use the old ad blocking APIs, Chromium forks would be hit as well, haha!
Vivaldi: we've integrated DuckDuckGo based ad and tracker blocking right into our Chromium based browser. Also for Android now, haha!9 -
Calling all bored js devs...
So I just noticed that rantBlock is the most ++'ed collab on devRant! This was totally unexpected since it was just another proof of concept of a random idea I had while bored.
The problem is I do not have time in the next few months to develop it further. I would love to see it ported to uBlock and officially released on the chrome/mozilla/microsoft stores so I am posting an open invitation for devRanters to take it over.
Realistically though while the collab is popular on devRant the repo was not cloned enough times to even show - it only had one watcher and 7 stars so I am not sure if it will get much usage once released, but I promise to download it.
Even with that in mind it's a pretty fun side project if your into ad blocking (ad how it works) and browser extensions for the holidays and you have a community of devs to get feedback from.
Leave a comment if you would like to see it properly published or would like to contribute and you guys can network from there.
Developers are supposed to be eager to try new stuff, however most devs on devRant prefer to hate on Edge and hate who use it.
I'm not here to defend Microsoft but I bet 95% of the people that hate on Edge haven't tried the latest version.
It's really easy on weaker hardware and on battery life. Try using an old ultrabook (2nd gen i5) as I did for some time while using Chrome or Firefox as your main browser!15 -
Fuck Google Chrome cache.
For almost an hour, sat and tried to make changes to a react UI but unfortunately nothing's changing. Started to worry and doubt myself.
Even thought of getting myself the yellow duck! But fuck no , little did I realise that Chrome "intelligently" fetched my page from cache even though I was using incognito! Had to re-open the browser to realise that.
How did I find out you ask? I thought why not fucking open the same page in Mozilla . Why? Because why not?! But I still can't believe that I wasted a whole fucking hour due to that piece of shit called cache!19 -
I have just released my first browser extension! It's a YouTube ad-skipper.
I did it mainly as a learning exercise but I hope some of you can find it useful!5 -
Firefox is shit
- In version 62 the cocksuckers finally removed the ability to add description to bookmarks, now there is no difference between mozilla shit browser and chrome, except chrome has working mobile version and working bookmark sync.
- Yes, firefox mobile on android does not even allow you to edit bookmarks so that useless crap can't be called a browser at all.
- Firefox shitcoded sync takes more time to sync 1 bookmark, than chrome takes to setup all bookmarks/addons/settings on fresh-install and in addition to that, it messed my bookmarks several times, so I am forced to sync places.sqlite via dropbox to syncronize bookmarks, because it is way much faster and reliable.37 -
To whoever builds electron boilerplates.
STOP ADDING FUCKING JQUERRY AND WEBPACK TO THIS SHIT, I DONT EVEN USE YOUR BULLSHIT BUT OTHERS DO AND THATS WHY SO MANY ELECTRON APPS SUCK. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THINKS THAT THIS MADE SENSE PUT YOUR CSS LOADER ANAL PLUG IN TO YOUR ANUS AND BUNDLE THEM TO YOUR SINGLUAR BDSM.JS WITH BROWSER BACKFALLS AND BETTER MAKE SURE TO WHIPE YOUR DIRTY SHITFACE WITH A FULL BLOW CSS RESET BETTER MAKE SURE THERE IS NO ACCIDENTAL MOZILLA STYLE IN YOUR CHROME.3 -
Heard of Electron? There is also Electrino, Electron-like stuff that uses your system's browser instead of embedding full Chrome. A “Hello World” app takes 115 MB using Electron, but only 167 kB using Electrino.
Too bad it's still a proof of concept with almost no features.
I started when I was 14, 6 years ago, and I was trying to create my "google chrome" in VB.net (yep, a browser)... Fortunately after that newbie beginning, I started to study IT seriously at a technical school, and now I'm a student of IT engineering at university.3
Browser rant:
I just want to get this off my chest, IE isn't a bad browser. It's highly outdated but it was good back when the alternatives weren't there. And today it's new "browser update" Edge isn't bad either. Edge really is a neat freaking piece of software. Microsoft tries their best to make a browser for their operating system (and a browser engine for their new app format!) that means it has couple of features the alternatives don't (or only with plugins) - oh and plugins, they're coming too. And still it's not slow either. From my own experience (I say this because every user says their browser is the fastest) it's way faster than Quantum. Yet Quantum is still a very good browser because it's faster than the old firefox, I guess it's open source(?) and still a privacy focused browser. Chrome (my personal favorite) on the other hand is really the fastest thing you can get - if you allow it to use all your ram - (if people like linuxxx say firefox is faster for them, I'll just smile) but for everyone worrying about ram usage and "spying", well - you know what I mean. And still I can understand people trying opera or FF/Chrome/Edge mods, I myself love "Monument". Just stop saying a browser is bad because it doesn't have what you like/does have what you don't like. The only bad browser is Midori, okay? 😘
Tl;dr
IE isn't bad but old. Edge isn't bad today. Every high end browser (edge, quantum, chrome) has their perks and none of them is "bad".
Q/A:
What's your favorite Browser? Comment below9 -
Most recently... taking something previous devs had failed at and knocking it out of the park.
Best example was a statistical regression and graphing tool on ASP MVC.
The devs were doing a massive brute force recalculation on the server layer. It would take 24h then fail to save (Entity framework brute force).
We moved it to the database layer and got it down to a passable time.
The same devs were outputting charts to ie 9, chrome, firefox... same deal, half an hour on the initial request (parser churn in the browser)... then failure.
Again got it into a passable time by switching to web sockets and long polling then outputting 1000 or so points at a time to give the browser time to render.
Taking those two cock ups and making them a workable solution was awesome.
Since then, teaching. We have apprentices, newcomers, interns all jumping in and looking to get working. They're all different, what works to teach one person won't the next, each of them so far has caught on to what I was teaching. It's a proud moment to be able to impart knowledge and see someone pick it up, enthusiastically... it's also awesome to see someone excited about what you do. -
You know what would be cool for testing web pages?
A chrome window that would mirror my mouse movements, clicks and key presses into a firefox/opra/ie browser so I could test a bunch of browsers at once in the same way8 -
Today is “Visit your parents and secretly install Chrome as the default browser” day.
Make sure you’ve visited your parents and switched their IE to Chrome.9 -
So if you google any pet say 'cat' on chrome browser on phone, there is a section to view it in 3d. And within 3d section there is an option to view it as a live virtual pet via Augmented Reality. I think accept cookie thing should be done by browser itself. If it was like when using
document.cookies=bla browser wod show the popup that if we (users) are okay with the site storing a cookie. It'd be much standard as I can set accept cookie from all web sites etc so I don't have to8 -
installed apache, php, mysql in linux tried first file in var/www/html/test/index.php wrote following lines there "<?php echo 'hello world'; ".
So Google apparently removed the most important Chrome feature:
"Toolbar auto-hide in fullscreen"
This change came with the new UI recently and there are no #flags around to fix it
Previously the chrome browser was easy to use as a multi-tasking machine, but now it feels really dumb.
This resulted in a loss of 15% of screen-real estate.
Please give me back my choice4 -
Fuck these fucking youtube ads! I got blocked on youtube and cant play any video on desktop unless i disable adblocker. Shits so fucking LAME. Fuck off. Switching over to brave browser now and never looking back. Fuck off chrome.
Get fucked google. Now Google dropped to the last place for me from cloud providers. I'll prioritize the pedophille childfucker bill gates Azure cloud over GCP Now! Fuck Off. Shove ur ads into someone elses ass just how bill gates shoves his dick into childrens assholes on the epstein island!
Brave browser found a solution to all this fuckertry! It has built in adblockers for everything including built in vpn IP cloaker trace blocker and so much more for privacy and data integrity. Playing yt videos on brave browser works like a charm with no fucking ads or extensions installed! Everything is the same like chrome including layout development etc, minus ads tracking and data harvesting!
I'd like to talk about my first impression of the new product of Microsoft :
"New Edge Browser"
I just wanted to take a shallow glance at this browser, and it was horribly awesome in contrary with my expectations.
The design and animations and smooth transitions, ease of migration from chrome and enhanced UI were the things that aroused my interest at the first 5 minutes of usage, as a frontend developer, I'm so much eager to dig up more in it. Share your experience and opinions with me 😉22 -
Well, today I felt like the witch from the sleeping hollow movie.
I was working on a code that logins to a page and download files to a folder, according to the user.
Well, I tried to use the webservices from the page (like it should be) but the links were broken, and I lost a entire working day on trying the API 😮
The second day I tried with Selenium. Everything was going ok, but I wanted to run it without opening the browser and I found a “Headless Chrome”. At the end of the day, I found several blogs saying that Headless Chrome can’t download files 😱 second working day lost
Today I read about “PhantomJS”. I tried the code in C# with OpenQA.Selenium.PhantomJS BUUUUUUT it was missing 😡 I also tried with Python, but I had the same problem.
Finally, I found a blog with a solution for C# with Headless Chrome 😄random phantomjs story time missing packages chrome selenium webdriver headless webdriver automation chromedriver4 -
This isn't something I've dealt with personally, but recently heard the story on the podcast and was pretty astounded:
"A company who makes add-ons for Flight Simulator X included malware in one of their downloadable jets, players have alleged. The malicious file is called ‘test.exe’ and it is designed to extract passwords from the Chrome web browser."
Now that's some extreme DRM. "Pirate our downloadable jet? We leak your credit card information and Social Security Number to the darknet."
“Huddles don't work in safari 🤡,” Slack said.
Develop → User Agent → Google Chrome.
Boom, huddles suddenly work in Safari, and my today's huddle went absolutely fine.
Yep, I switched to Safari as my default browser. Previously, I didn't use it solely because YouTube's full-screen mode acted weird, but now I quit watching YouTube altogether.
Safari is a stellar browser. First, it wipes the floor with everything, even including Thorium, in the performance department (on Apple Silicon at least). Second, it's really beautiful with its new inline tab panel, where you have just one line of icons on top, instead of having two (tabs and url bar). DevTools are amazing. It can also connect to my iPhone's Safari via Wi-Fi and inspect the opened page — a must-have for heavy layouts. Plus, if my website works fine in Safari, it sure as hell will work fine everywhere. Safari is a great hack detector, as it won't tolerate dirty hacks. Works wonders for your code discipline.9 -
I regret moving to backend. I loved the days when I used to write lines of code and refresh my browser for the changes to be displayed on the screen. I loved seeing the output of my code, the code flow, the light weight text editor, the visual satisfaction and the chrome debugger.
Now I am fucked up, I am working on creating microservices for restful api. I am hating everything about it. The fact that I should compile the entire war, manually copy them to a webapp folder, restart my tomcat and wait for 5 minutes just to see my code, and the text editors are just a pain in the ass, the debugger sucks too.
I was so looking forward to being a backend Dev because I thought Java was cool and I also was fedup with cross browser optimizations on the front end. Now I would gladly write a streaming service foe ie6. Spring has fucked me up so hard
God save me from this mess.6 -
Me : Opens Microsoft Edge after installing Windows and searches Download Google Chrome.
Edge : Am I a joke to you ????
Chrome : Yes !!!! LOL8 -
So we released to production today (Friday), not my decision.
All pages work fine expect for the one page which I added a new feature.
It worked fine in Chrome and Edge. But after release a customer who requested the feature said it doesn't work for him. Screenshot showed he was using IE.
Horror time.. it was evident that it has to be the changes to the JavaScript I did, but why does the whole page doesn't work.
So I started debugging. Nothing works on that page in IE11, it doesn't even load the fucking script file. Then I dared to change mode to IE10, it actually gave me an error in my script file. The bad IE has actually picked a mistake that other browsers didn't.
So, the mistake is fun part too.
I had the following jQuery (or Jake Weary) call
$.getJSON(
'/url',
{
argA: a, argB, b, argC:c
},
function (){
// did something
}
);
In second argument, I accidentally typed comma instead of colon. Chrome and Edge ran the script perfectly passing all the arguments.IE 11 failed to load script without giving any error and only IE 10 gave an error of expecting a colon.
I do not know which browser to blame.
PS I didn't try in Firefox, safari, etc.2 -
I swear on the Almighty nature, I fucking hate Browser compatibility.
Passing php data via JSON encode. Works superfine on Firefox and Android mobile browser doesn't on Chrome. Fucking shit. Been sitting for 13 hours and gave up. FFuuuuuuck !!!!
Form submission via ajax and it again works on Firefox but doesn't on Chrome. I just can't understand, my mind is fucked by all the angels in heaven. Data gets submitted, the form is reset but the function called to refresh the JSON data doesn't work.
Someone please kill me or I swear I will fucking kill everybody.4 -
Safari is such an underrated browser.
It's damn beautiful with the new Mojave dark mode and the developer tools are excellent.
The performance is identical to Chrome and the memory consumption is much smaller.
I seriously encourage everyone on macOS to give it a try.
P.S: This is coming from a person who has been using Chrome since its release.37 -
Privacy nightmare!
So i had bought a second hand iPhone and it seemed the phone was reset as it had only the default apps.
But as soon as I downloaded Google Chrome on to it, things started to get weird. When i opened the newly downloaded Google Chrome app, it showed someone else's Google account already logged in Chrome. I went to the Chrome settings and the account section gave me full control over this person's Google account.
Not wanting any trouble, i didn't go further and removed that account from the browser.
I then logged in to Google Chrome via one of my "project specific" google account i had created months ago and it added fine. But guess what I found when checking out safari browser.
Safari has somehow synced bookmarks from my main & personal Google account!!
I'm just stunned. I didn't even provide gmail id of my personal Google account and safari somehow was able to get bookmarks from it.
I'm kind of scared now. 😵3 -
I didn't know this but every single chrome extension spawns off its own chrome.exe process. I had 11 chrome exe processes running and I didn't even have the browser open cause I use Firefox exclusively now. My laptop was crawling and I was wondering why cause I have 8 gigs of ram. After removing all the extensions my laptop became a speed demon again!1
Trying Brave browser as my default on my phone. So went ahead and disabled chrome as I can't uninstall it.
And so many apps lost there shit, LinkedIn 9Gag etc. all started crashing.
Google misusing there Monopoly or just bad app code, I wonder14 -
This is the reason why I never prefer Google Chrome!! It freaking kick starts number of threads in the background that keeps hogging your system resources!! The one memory hungry browser!!14
In regards to Google being fined by UE:
(https://theverge.com/2018/7/...)
"That means Google will need to stop forcing manufacturers to preinstall Chrome and Google search in order to offer the Google Play Store on handsets"
Google restricts their user base to Chrome by making it the default Android browser the same way Microsoft restricts users to Internet Explorer by making it the default Windows browser.12 -
i accidentally closed my browser with 34+ opened stackoverflow tabs which were EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND BEEN OPENED FOR DAYS while the rest of tabs were also important dev and non dev related stuff just because Google chrome does not have an option to warn me if i am sure i want to close my browser and because googlle chrome doesnot have even extensio n that can do this for me i am deeply frustrated right now5
finished making website and all its features work across Chrome, Safari, and even IE11 and Edge..... but not Firefox... been like this for the last 3 sites that I have done. Mostly CSS3 related. Some CSS3 hacks are required for that browser... why are you the odd one out now Firefox??? That used to be the job of IEs!!!17
Just subscribed to PIA for a multifunction VPN, and I went to test it on my Windows machine, Nova. Opera is my current primary browser.
Had Chrome open for a local web thing that works better in Chrome. Checked my IP to make sure VPN was working.
Opera: Obscured, good.
Chrome: Real, bad.
What the actual fuck Google.3 -
We had a issue with a webstore that was only affecting users on Windows: one button didn't do anything.
The colleague that was working on the ticket was running Arch, and for him it was working as expected. He reported that the bug couldn't be replicated on Chromium, Firefox or qutebrowser. But our designer, who was running Windows 10, commented that it wasn't working for her in either Chrome or Firefox.
Some more conflicting reports later a colleague using Windows managed to fix it. It was caused by querying the button elements by id selector instead or a class selector. There was multple buttons, one for each product row.
I guess there just are platform differences that aren't specific to browser but instead the OS, that could have caused it7 -
I think Chromium is definitely one of the best and most useful Open Source Projects, because so many modern technologies are based on it:
- Chrome + Chromium Browser
- Electron (Which is in my opinion the future of software development, as long as Web Apps don't have that many possibilities)
- Android WebViews
- Chrome OS (and Chromium OS)
- Many other Browsers like Opera, Samsung Mobile Browser, Vivaldi…
I think without Chromium the Internet wouldn't be the same today. It helped to popularize WebApps and helped to set many modern web Standards. Also, in addition with V8 it paved the way for modern JavaScript, as it provided (and still provides) developers and so also users with massive performance boosts.3 -
What browser does everyone use? I've been using Firefox and its pretty good mixed with DuckDuckGo I could ask for better, but people seem to love Chrome. What does everyone think should I try Chrome for a bit.40
A rant about fucking google!
I search for a page, but my internet is pretty slow (not on wifi), so while waiting I think of somwthing else to search. And now I have 4 tabs open on my phone.
After a little while, I get the following error (see attached image). I get a little frustrated, but I'm a calm person, I decide to solve the (still loading) CAPTCHA and continue browsing.
After a little while, I get an error that my browser (Edge) is not supported and I can't open the CAPTHCA. On other websites, it has always worked just fine, but they want me to switch to their Chrome, to steal my data.
It is quite a clever trick if you think about it. Either that, or I've been hacked and there's a bot on my phone.6 -
Was working on an issue that had to deal with destroying a session on browser close. Took me a looong time to realize that it wasn't working because my firefox and chrome browsers were set to restore sessions on startup
our school says...
This school homepage was developed in 2008 as a builder.
IE7 was the main browser at the time of 2008, but now IE11 is being used as the main browser.
We are currently working on developing a school website builder that is suitable for modern browsers and sequentially converting all schools into new builders by December 2017.
Therefore, please use the Chrome browser to use and operate stable website when accessing the school website.
Oh...
But WHY ISN'T IT WORKING IN CHROME, EITHER???!!!!1 -
Latest Yandex browser (Chromium based) throws an error if "document.hasStorageAccess()" is called (:
Ie the StorageAPI that allows cross-site cookie access on user-interaction
the iFrame sandbox flags that compliment it, ie "allow-storage-access-by-user-activation" also fails on execution.
Both of these work on Edge/Chrome/Firefox.
I thought Firefox and Chromium browsers are all ive to deal with and im done but NO.
Now within Chromium-based browsers theres differences of API as well?
devRanters beware! In-browser JavaScript crypto mining is becoming a thing.
https://coin-hive.com/
I found
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...
Which will block browser coin miners on Chrome for now. Other ad/script blockers might work (though not always guaranteed).
Currently, these miners don't limit their CPU usage (and neither does the browser) so it's not great for your PC use.
If implemented correctly, like only using for a few seconds or for captchas/link shorteners (as suggested on the Coin Hive site), this could be a nice alternative to ads. But there is a guarantee that many will start using this unethically and not even tell users, nevermind that they'll do it for the entire session of the site.
Add Service Workers to the mix and it's a bag of trouble.13 -
The fuck? I'm trying to automate login for an asp.net website from a C# console app using HttpWebRequests. I used Fiddler to see how the login happens and how the browser obtains the session and auth cookies from the server. When I replicate the same procedure from C#, I am able to get both cookies withoth a problem, but when I try to use them to get data about the user, I get a 500 ISE. What the actual fuck? I've double-checked every single header and the URLs and it's doing literally the same thing as chrome: Get asp session id (POST)-> get an auth cookie (POST username and passwd) -> interact with the site using the session id and auth cookie (GET). And obiviously I don't have access to the server logs... :/2
Me and my housemate are both web developers, a year ago we worked on a project, to develop a website for a local football team. A couple of weeks after the release of the website, the team secretary messages us to let use know that the slideshow on the homepage isn’t working. Upon asking what browser he was using, we got an eye watering reply saying “Internet Explorer” ... like for real dude... this is is 2016, and your using IE, out of Chrome, Opera, Firefox and even at the very bottom there’s Edge... and you still use IE. 😭😭1
-
Fuck chrome.
You're asking why I am so fucking angry at this piece of software? Well because I was awake at night for 3 hours reinstalling my mail system because I thought the Web UI was broken due to a corrupted database. Guess what - the caching of chrome caused the buttons to silently hide beneath the header of the UI. Hahahahahakillmehahah
To be fair, this could have happened with every browser. But since everyone is on the "anti-google" trip anyway, I'm gonna switch to Firefox 🙃1 -
I know it’s old hat but…Edge…I mean really how is it still so bad? How do you base your browser of the chromium engine, have, gosh idk, a billion dollar dev budget, and still, still, it’s significantly worse than chrome in every ui/ux way.8
-
Given that Microsoft will be dumping Edge down the toilet flush (and creating an Edge skin for Chrome), I will have to switch browsers (if I want to surf the Internet).
I don't want to switch to Firefox, because I find Mozilla having double standards.
It's been ages since Chrome isn't my favourite, I am forced using it at work, so I'd rather avoid it using it at home.
That bring us to the Chromium-based browsers. Of the myriad out there, the two that piqued my interest are Opera and Vivaldi.
Both have their merits and flaws, but I am equally drawn to them.
My question is which one would you pick between these two?20 -
The more I'm growing the more I'm starting to hate this GOOGLE CHROME browser. Suggest me any alternates browsers?28
I fucking hate vendor prefixes. HATE.
Got some nice JS code? Well it's about to get ugly 'cause in our browser, the API needs some special name treatment or it feels offended.
Got some nice CSS?
Fucking bullshit.1 -
Yesterday while learning some basic php stuff, prof was telling us about text fields and how php auto converts HTML and JavaScript.
He said to test it out before class, he wrote a lil JS script and submitted it to a text field using IE and then again using Chrome.
IE let the script run no problems (big surprise) but chrome blocked the script from running.
He doesn’t use Firefox, but I just recently switched from chrome to FF so I tested it out in class on FF.
I was surprised to see FF ran the script no problem. Surprised because I made the switch because of security reasons, my partner helped me secure all my shit and we both switched to FF cause every resource suggested it.
This is just one small case that I feel isn’t a huge deal, my prof said any decent dev will strip tags or whatever, but made me think: are there any other security concerns with FF? Am I right to consider it a more secure and therefore “better” browser?4 -
I am studying an online data science course in python offered by Microsoft.
Google c'mon.
It's time to release backdrop-filters. Please. Pretty please.
You already support the feature (although a little glitchy) with experimental flags enabled. Can't you finish it? Is it that difficult with your so very limited personal and budget (sarcasm)? At least that could be an excuse for Firefox. -
Been working on a particularly elusive HTML menu sizing glitch for over a year now, trying to get it to appear consistently enough to track down its cause. Finally a) got it to happen in a browser so I could hit it with Chrome Inspector and b) figured out what was probably causing it and fixed it.
"No, try it on *this* account"
I try again on their stupid account. Works fine.
So my aunt called because her phone had ran out of storage as she had "by mistake" disabled Play Store,WhatsApp, Browser, Chrome and every other fucking app, and she had to install WhatsApp back. After an hour of struggle explaining her to move her songs to memory card, enabling Chrome and Play Store, installing WhatsApp, I have started to lose faith from humaninty.
To make things worse, every Android phone manafacturer feels obligatory to change the settings app as per their wish and I didn't have a clue where the settings to enable apps were on her phone.
And I had to do all this through a phone call
And I can't say "No"
I have a handy RSS Feed Reader extension in Google Chrome that allows me to add RSS feeds and check them in a popup in my browser and get notified when something new comes up. I've added RSS feeds for my email, GitHub, and a whole lot of other things. Damn. 3days and not yet finished with this bug.
Problem: in js, we want to popup a dialog to user that he us living the page.
So we used onbeforeunload.
Works well with chrome, ie and firefox (atfirst).
Then i updated my firefox to latest version and onbeforeunload is not triggering.
And it also occurs in tablet. Argh! Damn challenges on cross platform/browser compatibilities.
Help! Please7 -
Man I hate how CSS is treated differently on different operating systems using the same browser, let alone making the same UI heavy application perform identically on android chrome and iOS Safari.
Messing around with the css to figure out what all properties are treated differently, this is how the exact same code behaves on chrome on iPad versus Linux.
Look, I'm not a CSS genius, far from it, BUT it really shouldn't be this bad to make a responsive UI heavy application work on all platforms. I've been at this for weeks now.9 -
That was weird...
Yesterday I took a LinuxFoundation exam in their proprietary PSI browser. I took it on a freshly installed latest LinuxMint.
I don't know if its Firefox the browser is TRASH or something else? Is it just me or is it nearly impossible to get Chrome to dump its cache?
I'm curling a CloudFront distribution from command line and getting a different HTML file to when I clear the cache on Chrome. Firefox browser works fine from fresh install.
Chrome incognito also works3 -
Someone, please explain this to me like I'm 5. In the early 2000s, we had a whole big anti-trust kerfuffle over the fact that Microsoft was making its OS and its browser inseparable. Google was a plaintiff in the lawsuits, claiming Microsoft, as the dominant OS in the market, was monopolizing.
Now I see this ho-hum headline showing that Google, arguably the dominant provider (some might say a monopoly) of search and browser software, is basically admitting it did the same exact thing. Except, instead of being forced by the authoritarian state to change its business practices, it's merely doing the separation to make updates easier.
Now, I'm no fan of Microsoft (I used to be, but not anymore). And I have a love-hate relationship with Google. But, just tell me that governments don't play favorites with corporate interests and that money and quid pro quo favors are not involved here.
Today I discovered that Betheme for Wordpress stores data base64 encoded in the database. Meaning you can't just do a search replace when you migrate a site to a different domain. That combined with Chrome based browsers not loading mixed security assets, but Firefox (the browser I use) does, makes for a confusing trouble ticket.
You have to change the setting to serialize sanely, then go into every post and save to update the stored data. Fortunately, the site is new so I only had one page to update, but I can't imagine the headache an established site would be to migrate.3 -
My favourite browser has gone shite. Safari don't take the place left over by IE. Vivaldi is not stable enough yet. Firefox is way too slow. Chrome, well that's Google.2
Question: How exactly is just changing the email client or browser you use actually protecting you from Google? For example, how does using ddg protect you if you use it with chrome? It sounds like actually de-google ing is a lot of fucking work.3
So my schol has this softwarecenter site from which all software must be installed (if you aren't admin). That's fina and all, i mesn they want to conteoll what we can install, and provide some paid software, BUT WHY THE HELL DID THEY DECIIDE TO USE SITE THAT ONLY WORKS IN IE!? Funny fact and rant at the same time.
I disabled auto update on all my chromium based browsers I use to make sure they don't send any telemetry in background os process, because all companies that make chromium based browsers run the process in background when browser is not running.
The only one that do it during browser running is firefox. -
Enabling browser userscripts on Android is not an evident procedure for novice users.
It's annoying if people do want this functionality to change how web pages behave, e.g. they want to fix a broken banner on mobile that doesn't have max-width: 100% but instead crops off on the page.
At this current time, Firefox changed their engine so that it supports only a limited set of add-ons and you'd have to use a nightly build in order to enable other add-ons such as userscript ones.
Chrome doesn't accept add-ons/extensions.
And there's the JavaScript trick but again, not user-friendly.
It's just annoying.2 -
Ok if anyone is interested (Or is having the same issues I had) I have worked out the 2 major issues I've had with elementary OS with Chrome and VMware...
If you were trying to use chrome and go fullscreen but have the browser lock up, try turning on system borders (Pretty sure this forces it to use GTK instead of googles weirdo window)
And if you had an issue with VMware locking up when booting a VM, run it as root...
(Felt like I needed to share this incase anyone else is having the same issues)1 -
I was wondering - no one seems to be able to write good CSS, so what if we had tool to generate CSS visually.
E.g. imagine workflow of UI design tools inside chrome browser (while inspecting specific element) or your favourite editor.
Might actually build something like that. Would definitely help with problems I face. 🤷🏻
P.S. Best tools and practices for building extensions like this?35 -
is there any quality browser apart from safari chrome chromium canary firefox opera (the list is in randim order)12
Browser automation is a PITA. I’m going on my fourth side mission with this crap and I honestly still look like a newbie. I’ve tried Java Selenium with Chrome, Excel VBA with IE9, Vanilla JS in the browser console, and tonight I’m thinking to concoct some kind of hybrid CDP & Selenium approach in Chrome. Never used CDP before, not even sure where to start but I heard it sucks like anything else unless you get some extra libraries and plugins and stuff.
It doesn’t help that I can’t get just anything I want from our IT Department. It would be another PITA to ask for puppeteer. If puppeteer is totally legit please let me know.
Selenium sucks. The buttons don’t click, the waits don’t wait. Its unusable. Iframes are annoying as all hell but I can deal with that. HTML Tables suck too. It doesn’t help I have to restart my whole java program and whole Chrome every time an element doesn’t get picked correctly. Scripting one single element can take all fucking night.
Chrome dev tools what the fuck. Why the fuck is the DOM explorer in the same window as the web page I’m working on?? I can’t undock it. Am I supposed to use a fucking TV screen to work with this bastard?? If I use the remote chrome tools on port 9225 or whatever - It Still Renders The Whole Fucking Page Alongside The Console. Get Out Of My Way!!! The nested HTML CODE IS ONE CHARACTER WIDE ALL THE TIME. I can’t for the life of me figure out what the fuck I’m looking at. Haven’t you people ever heard of A HORIZONTAL SCROLL BAR at least.
Fuck I tried using getElementById, and the Xpath thing and its not all that great seeing I have seemingly 1000s of nested Divs all over the god damned place oftentimes containing a single element. I’m finally on chrome now should I learn Jquery now? I mean seriously wtf.
I use this one no code tool for dev it has web automation built in. As you can imagine its just as broken as anything else!! I have 10 screens to navigate it gets stuck on the second screen all the damn time. Fuck I love clicking the buttons when my script misses and playing catch up with it.
So as a work around to Selenium not waiting even 1 millisecond when I use explicit wait or implicit wait or fluent wait, I’m guessing maybe I can attach both Chrome Dev Tools Protocol (CDP as ive called it earlier) and selenium to the same browser and maybe I can use CDP to perform a Wait with any degree of success. Selenium will do nothing more than execute vanilla javascript Element.click(); This is the only way I know to even ACTUALLY use selenium beyond the simplest html documents possible. Hell I guess CDP can execute js idk.
I can’t get the new selenium that has CDP but I do have some buggy ass selenium from a few years back. Yeah, I remember reading there was a pretty impactful regression defect in the version I have. Maybe I’m being gaslighted by some shit copy of selenium?
The worst part is that I do seem to be having issues that the rest of the internet’s devs do not seem to be having. People act like browser automation is totally viable and pretty OK. How in the fuck hell is my Selenium Test Suite going to be more reliable my application under test?!!?? I’ll have more fucking bugs in my test suite than in my application. Today, I have less than half a test script and, I. already. fucking. do.
I am still SUPER PISSED at the months of 12 hour days (always 8 hours spent on normal sprint work btw only 4 to automation) I spent trying to automate our regression tests. I got NOWHERE.
I did learn a lot about HTML and JS though like I’m not that mad…but I’m just trying to emphasize my achievement on my task was zero.
The buttons don’t click. There are so many divs and I swear you sometimes need to select a div somewhere in the middle sometimes to get it working. The waits don’t wait. XHR requests are invisible. Java crashes 100 times before I find an xpath and thread.sleep() combo that works. I have no failure modes to use — Sometimes I click the same element 20x in a script because I have no way to know if it clicked the first time! Sometimes you gotta scroll the page to make the click work. So many click methods all broken. So many wait methods all broken. Its not just the elements don’t click! There are so many ways to click that almost work but surely they all fail the same in the end. ok at this point I’m just repeating myself…
there yet even more issues that I can’t remember…and will soon remember as I journey into this project yet again…
thanks for reading I hope I entertained and would love to hear your experience!5 -
Today i quit Edge and i'm back on firefox.
Why ? Edge is very good but i like to change my default browser frequently to make my own idea of their quality.
Mann i will always be a newbie to the world of linux, but running cmd on it, its always scary. Like one purge command and it went on deleting so many packages i didn't knew even existed at the first place.
I feel like a blind man following the blogs hoping to god that no wrong shit happens. And the blogs are also like "do step1 then step2 then step3, you will see x , do y and it will work" , and surprisingly it works!.
Linux is a beautiful mystery.
And why the hell is almost every browser in linux broken?
- Netflix, hotstsr and Spotify won't run on any versions of opera or chromium because opera didn't got some widevine installed.
- chrome runs but no good free vpn(i prefer hola/1click) works
- firefox is weirdly slow.
Doesn't even work in Incognito mode, nor after flushing cookies, cache, and history. Just the annoying ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. And then I switch over to another Chrome profile I have and it's all fine. Google Forums are completely non-helpful because they all say it's ipconfig /flushdns or reinstall All The Things and delete and re-create my whole profile. Things like this make me want to flush Chrome forever.3
What's a good Android browser like Chrome but not Chrome... I'm sick of their BS changes like tab groups and they seem to be follow me too much...
Also I think latest issue is FLOC which is supposed to be more private... But not.14 -
If you’re not using Chrome or Safari, watch out for this new exploit!
I just got a U2F key, and I have an extension for Firefox for it to work on that browser. When I try to set it up in my Google account it wants me to use Chrome. Now why the fuck can't they check for the functionality instead of what browser I'm using?
-
TryShift.com - I got this app hoping to consolidate my gmail accounts into a single place. I've been using it for months (maybe a year now) and I just can't see why anymore lol.
1) It logs me out every week or so and dashlane can't autofill my password from within the app so I have to go copy-paste it.
2) The app is basically just a browser
3) There are bugs and one of them just started with the only feature worth using the app for (unread email count in the mac osx dock)
4) The app blocks my macbook from restarting
5) The app won't update when I click "Update & Restart". I have to quit it manually and often it still won't update when I open it again.
UGH! Just uninstalled, opened both my gmail accounts in chrome, and sighed from relief.9 -
Managed to apply Particle.js to my personal website today. It's a lot of fun to play with and you can make some pretty interesting effects. Recommend it to everybody.
Only problem is that Chrome doesn't seem to like this library very much. It doesn't start on Chrome unless your website is on a server (you can always use Live Server or something like that from your code editor). Or you can always try a different browser. It seems to be only a Chrome problem.
Can't wait to get my site live and hear what you guys think. Though, don't expect too much please.8 -
I just had a discussion with a customer a week ago. He tould me that the PDF Files we are having in our application are not showing Up.
Connected to his computer to look at the problem just to find out That Google Chrome is blocking the popup. I tell him the problem and once He allows it to open it wont happen again.
Customer: I dont want That it also happens to my customers and they dont know that either. Just fix it and call me back" I try to explain him That we cant just change thr behaviour of the Browser but He already hung Up.
Well i guess we are going to buy Google the next week to change his Problem xD2 -
If you too are sick of pull-to-refresh in Google Chrome, please consider signing this petition:
https://change.org/p/...
While I doubt it will get Google to change their minds, it is worth a shot.
FAQ:
Why not just use Firefox?
Because it can't save pages as HTML or MHTML file. Don't even get me started with SinglePage; it is bogus garbage.
Why not just use Kiwi/Brave/etc. ?
Because Google made it mandatory in its codebase, Brave and Kiwi browser and all those other chromium-based third-parties have it mandatory too. This needs to change.6 -
It is so frustrating that browsers had to keep the open developer tools as Ctrl+shift + C.I work with a ton of terminals and lot of browser tabs and when I try to copy text , I automatically type Ctrl + shift + C and boom , the developer tools opens up.I know we could change the key bindings but who the hell kept the "open developer tools " shortcut as Ctrl + Shift + C.That is a serious flaw!!! Fucking hate it..
Chrome has still not evolved when it comes to downloading things. I'm waiting for this 150mb file to get downloaded. Internet crashes at 90 mb and chrome does not picks it up again at 90. It again starts downloading from 0. Such a sophisticated browser and yet sucks at a simple thing :((8
I just experienced something on MacOS that I thought was a Windows/Chrome type thing. Brave Browser, a huge RAM-suck bigger than Chrome, didn't make my computer slow. However, my Mac automatically opened both iTunes and Safari, the equivalent of a forced update, and suddenly my computer gets the spinning wheel of death, the equivalent of a BSOD. I'm now wondering what is wrong with those programs that they use so much RAM to get the spinning wheel.
And before anyone does the obligatory "Use Linux" comment, I've been meaning to switch for awhile already and just haven't gotten around to it.3 -
firstly, does anyone know of an online telegram or whatsapp group where i can ask silly stuff regarding web dev and get immediate answers, just like it is here?
secondly i am trying to learn js and there are just too many related terms that are messing with my brain:
"some features are supported ines5/es6/es15/es16/es17 , some are supported in chrome's v8/chakra/spidermonkey/android browser , some features are only supported in "serverside" and blocked in all browsers thanks to browser's vm environment; babel can't read this code, some features are provided only by node js..."
WHAT THE MESS IS THIS?
All i am trying to do is to write code that would make a website visible to everyone. if by specific browser , i want to target, chrome and its subsidaries and android chrome/other android browsers .
for other browsers am willing to make external converters later but don't want to change my code by 1 bit. And from what i know, each browser (at least the browsers am thinking of supporting) has the complete JS compilers already built in
can i or can i not built a complete functional website with those things?
and finally my main question : how to make custom exceptions in vanilla js? i saw this answer on stack overflow:
===================
function InvalidArgumentException(message) {
this.message = message;
// Use V8's native method if available, otherwise fallback
if ("captureStackTrace" in Error)
Error.captureStackTrace(this, InvalidArgumentException);
else
this.stack = (new Error()).stack;
}
InvalidArgumentException.prototype = Object.create(Error.prototype);
InvalidArgumentException.prototype.name = "InvalidArgumentException";
InvalidArgumentException.prototype.constructor = InvalidArgumentException;
Usage:
throw new InvalidArgumentException();
var err = new InvalidArgumentException("Not yet...");
=====================================
where is the error code? what would be the exception details? what is the line number/timestamp of error?why is that function making an error, i thought error/exception is a class in JS?4 -
Quantum, Chrome, IE, Safari (the new IE), but wait... Anyone remember Avant Browser? I fucking loved that shit, seriously.1
I felt a bit sorry for MS this morning so logged into dev rant using MS Edge only to see that my notifs are completely missing, don't even render lol. Every time I try something like this I wind up going back to chrome (which I am using now) within minutes. Edge genuinely is a terrible browser, (and I think I'm right in thinking is the most expensive one ever developed). Goes to show you can't compete with wealth!6
Log points in chrome Dev tools
Cool feature to stop unwanted console message in chrome browser
https://developers.google.com/web/...1 -
I never thought that I’m gonna say this. But this weekend I started using the new Edge browser and I liked it. I might use it everyday from now on. Before this my primary browser was Chrome.11
-
Aaaaghh this google chrome is killing me, why you always freezing when i really fucking need you right at the time2
-
Just installing Node.Js on my windows machine. I try to be loyal and show good faith in MS by using Edge. It fails, hangs or resets every fucking time. What a useless piece of shit browser.
Oh well, Chrome it is then.... -
watch this
i opened some site on chrome bc i expect new results and there aint none so i figured maybe its bc of the cache of my browser
so i opened firefox
firefox took over 2 minutes to load (yes literally over 2 minutes) and it still DIDNT load the site so i lost patience and closed firefox
i opened internet explorer
internet explorer opened the site in 4 seconds.
chrome > ie > firefox
fight me.
edit: but of course the js on ie doesnt even fkig work so i couldnt do shit either way3 -
I've been using Firefox mobile for years and still cannot save a page as HTML
YOU ARE A F*CKING WEB BROWSER! CAN'T YOU JUST LET ME SAVE IT AS HTML! WHERE IS MY SAVE-AS BUTTON?
no problems with PC version though
*sigh* I hate it, but I'm leaving firefox mobile for Chrome2 -
I read this rant about IE (https://www.devrant.io/rants/514347) but could not relate to it (I use Linux MS suckers!) So I thought I'd post a browser rant of my own, and this time it is about Chrome (or Blink since it also affects Opera). Whenever I start typing localhost Chrome suggests "localhost" but when I click this suggestion it takes me to a Google search result when all I really wanted was to test a webapp on my dev box. This is very annoying every time.
-
Never in my life I thought I would be ditching chrome for Edge browser,
I am honestly impressed with this new chromium based browser.
Features I liked
- Make PWA for any website
- Immersive Reader
- All extensions of chrome can be installed on edge too
- More customisable
What I didn't like
- It is yet to come on Linux :(7 -
Ok so, another post got me thinking…
Every browser I’ve tried sucks one way or another. Chrome, Firefox, Vivaldi etc…
Safari on my work Mac is so far the least annoying one, although it seems to have an issue with Google’s services…
On my personal computer (Linux) I use mainly Vivaldi, tho I have Firefox installed as well since apparently Vivaldi doesn’t quite support everything on the interwebs…
So, fellow ranters, what are your favoured browsers (all platforms go!) and most importantly, why?11 -
Going back to Chrome! :( The reason: I was for like 1 hour trying to figure out why the 'src' of a image wasn't getting changed by JavaScript, then BOOM, SO explains me that Firebug doesn't update those kind of changes :/ That and the fact you can't edit your external js from the browser... That was your last chance Firefox :(2
-
Emulating a mobile browser in desktop Chrome does not show any virtual keyboard even when tapping into an input field. Same error in Firefox (and same in Vivaldi).
I thought there had been an emulated soft keyboard in the past, or was that only in Opera mobile emulator?
Is there any browser that runs on Linux that still does a proper mobile emulation?8 -
I am developing a plug-in for chrome browser using python. I was trying to interact with the html page, and it was very frustrating, now I am using switching to JavaScript.
What I don't get is how did JavaScript become this power that you must use it to interact with the html page.6 -
Anyone tried this Krypt.co thing? I just tried setting it up and I hooked up my Github and Google account with it. The odd thing during the connection, it kept asking me to add it as a Security Key. I didn't realize the Chrome Extension tricked the browser to think that it had a security key connected to it.
Please support old web browser versions for all eternity.
I hate it when I open a site like SoundCloud one day and am greeted with a "we no longer support your browser" notice. Now I am forced to update my browser to a new version with removed features. On Android, Chrome sometimes crashes due to an apparent memory leak, so I have to go back to Samsung Internet, which does not work with some sites. Also, the Samsung clipboard manager (which can hold up to 20 items) is only available on Samsung Internet, not Chrome or Firefox.
I also have to update the browser on my live USB bootable stick because sites stop supporting it. Any browser starting in 2015 (ECMA script 6) should be supported until at least 2050 so that I never have to fear that a site one day spontaneously stops working on my browser.
I would like to browse the Internet forever without having to ever worry about pages to stop working one day. Browser vendors might also deprecate support for devices and operating systems. Old devices also have replaceable batteries and are easier to repair. I don't want be forced to buy new devices that are difficult and expensive to repair.20 -
How the fuck is this even possible Microsoft, apparently one line of code breaks web browser sandboxing on all chromium based browsers.
https://slashgear.com/windows-10-19...3 -
Vivaldi browser seemed a good idea to escape Google's misfeatures without swapping it for Microsoft extensions (Edge) or Firefox / Gecko idiosyncrasies (size / magnification issues on Ubuntu, slow Android version, clunky UI). But there are some ongoing issues that I never experienced in any other user agent (maybe I will when switching to Chromium), like URL completion (port URLs without a protocol aren't prepended with https but trigger a xdg-open dialog, autocomplete prefers obscure deep links with long paths instead of the base URL, browsers seems to forget login passwords by default, etc.) - so Chromium seems like the obvious choice. But there seem to be no more Chromium builds for Android? Anyone else disappointed by Vivaldi has a preferred solution?4
Someone else having this weird browser render issue on Mac OS El Cap? As far as I know it happens on both Opera and Chrome. (which use somewhat similar engines of course)
Setup
Macbook Pro Early 2011
Mac OS X El Capitan
Latest Chrome / Opera1 -
On my imac when i open youtube video it loads for the first 10-17 seconds fine and then freezes. When I try to fast forward it freezes. The pages break and crash. Comments wont load at all. I tried clearing cache reinstalling Google chrome browser restarting pc etc and nothing worked. It plays fine in incognito mode but not in regular chrome mode. WTF??? Please help!!!2
Win7 Task manager: 7 slack.exe processes running after shutting down app. Force closes 1 process, revives itself. 16 chrome.exe processes running after closing chrome. 8 node.exe running when no more node apps running.. Jesus christ, clean up after yourself Windows.. No wonder virtual box complained about not enough memory to run Windows 10 image because I have to test my web app on Edge browser..1
Hello ranters, how do I set my requirements so that when my repository is cloned it automatically install and download the right chromedriver for the chrome browser in the host desktop2
-
I've gotta question for dem ranters.
Since I'm using a toaster as a PC, and from time to time I do play Overwatch, playing without music (or doing anything in silence) is shit.
Running Google Chrome is not an option (it tends to hog my toaster so the game runs like, well, whatever is your defiinition of slow.
Is there something that can run Google Play Music in the background (and please, anything but the PlayMusic desktop player, that is ever worse, it makes the whole OS slow)?
Like, some lightweight browser?
It's bugging me for a year, and I can't find a solution. Maybe someone has a better idea of how to make this possible.
Anyone here use the NodeJS HTTP/2 API? I started working with it the other day and I can get static files served fine with it but when I try and use it's push feature to "bundle" additional resources that the page will need, it doesn't seem to work, the client still requests the resources from the server instead of looking in the "push" cache. Also the load time seems longer when using http/2 vs 1, was wondering if anyone else had come across these issues and found workarounds. P.S. - I'm using Chrome to test on, with https://localhost and some self-signed certs as http/2 isn't implemented in browser unless using https1
Anyone Know what the 'fixer for java' chrome extension does. How bad is it?
My boss had an extension called 'fixer for java' on her chrome browser. Now to me that sounds sketchy so I'm trying to find it online to see if the description or website can alleviate my worries about the boss getting hacked but I can't, does anyone know what the hell it is for, She's out of the office tomorrow so I'm gonna run all the virus scans but if i can get some information sooner that would be great.
thank you for your time.7 -
Did someone here ever got to use Station?
https://getstation.com/
Was it any good? As far as my understanding goes, the company went bankrupt and made the product open source.
But it doesn't work for some, as most of the messaging services pushed for a higher minimum browser version than the Chrome used by Station.
This sucks, but i am curious if it's worth trying to fix it at this point. Maybe find some people interested in this project as well or even make a project proposition here, on devRant, to fix it and make usable for the community.2 -
Any recommendations for decent 13 inch laptop under 1400$ USD
- Atleast 8 gigs of RAM and option to upgrade
- resolution >= full HD
- storage >= 256 GB SSD
- battery >= 6 hrs heavy chrome usage
- Linux compatibility
- Cpu- nothing heavy - browser and docker containers, no building or compiling15 -
Is anyone familiar with google OAuth not working on webview issue and got any idea to resolve it?
I googled but it says the users will need to use the mobile browser in order to use Google OAuth.
And also tried to force open the link in chrome using js but it's not working. -
Bitbucket's Javascript bullshit... gotta fucking have fast clicking fingers on a merge before the browser js crashes AGAIN... Firefox never threads the needle but you might just get it if you go fast on chrome...
-
I'm try to make a color picker browser extension and I want to open eyedropper element in firefox using `EyeDropper` api but it doesn't support in firefox it is only support in chrome, is there any alternative of it in firefox?8
I fucking hate mobile and iPad ui and general ux. I hate that I get shit for not being able to fix people's problems on them quickly enough with or without googling. Apparently that's my fucking line of work, no I'm just a fucking code monkey, I don't know where whichever asshat hide the setting to Jimmy or abysmal fucking browser implementations in fucking mobile chrome that makes it unable for you to buy car parts but it fucking works fine on a desktop browser. I ront want to reset your fucking weak passwords because you never remember them.
I can't even change my fucking phones background, or figure out or I lack voicemail because my plan or the fucking optoknnisnt present (one plus 2) and don't care enough to put more time or google it.
Maybe I'm just fucking incompetent. I like being able just to right click shift on desktop, going to properties or running both commands.
I never will stop being an imposter until I can fucking fix anything like a legit engineer. -
Started using Brave browser coz my bf wouldn’t shut up about it. Consumes much less memory than both chrome and firefox which is cool. Still haven’t figured out the in-built vpn yet. Cool i can import data from my firefox like my bookmarks and shit and I understand why I can’t import my saved passwords but damn i wish i could. I don’t know my passwords to anything anymore thanks to browsers beautifully saving my passwords and i am just frustrated having to go and copy passwords. This relationship with brave is clearly not going to last coz wtf3
