I just had a nightmare.
I never became a developer. Instead I had a normal 9-5, didn't do work at home, slept well and spent my free time on social activities.
It was horrible.3 -
Guy who was bragging about being programmer before I became one: "Best programming language is Wordpress".12
-
Three days ago I wrote a comment:
"It's weird how the internet shifted from protocols to platforms.
Devs still know the plumbing, but for most people IRC became Whatsapp, FTP became Dropbox, RTSP became Netflix, SIP became Zoom and RSS became Google Now... so people might eventually forget about SMTP and this whole "email" hype.
In a decade or two we'll have forgotten about URLs and HTTP and the "internet" as well. You just pay your monthly $10 sub to Google or Amazon or Apple to have your condensed streams of memes & bait funneled right into your eyeballs."
And now Chrome devs are considering removing URLs just like in Safari, just showing the domain you are on....
Enjoy your retard web, people.
What's next, new Macbook & Chromebook standardized designs to prevent people from being confused?43 -
on the first day, He said, "Let there be C." and there was C. on the second day, he added some more so there became C++11

From the time i became manager, productivity of the team has increased, one of the reasons is : after a 3 or 4 hour of working, we play online video game for about half an hour, then we continue. This way really had an impact on our productivity.10

How to beat jet lag with style:
When your normal sleep schedule was so broken it became completely normal in the different timezone.
I used to sleep from 5am to 1pm in my country. With a -7 time difference this became 10pm to 6am.
Should I be happy?9 -
Weirdest co-worker was a loner(he prefers to be left alone) and he has no social skills.
One day, everyone in the office received an invitation letter. All of us were invited to our weirdest co-worker's wedding!
After that, everyone became his friend :)6 -

The Power of Autocorrect
Writing an important update email to a very strict senior manager named Denis, with whom the previous encounters were also uncomfortable.
About to click send, but thought to read it once.
Imagine what autocorrect did...
D became P
I conclude it was a lucky day.19 -
"I became an expert in 3 programming languages in 6 months with this new online course! Click here to order now!!"2
-
Today I became the lead developer of a system, which annually generates about 30 million in revenue.
I just finished uni. I have no idea what I'm doing.
I feel like this guy.6 -
Real analog advertising for DuckDuckGo.
I have been a little bit surprised by that!
The text is:
"You want the same internet but with more privacy?
Leave it to us."
Could be because the advertising spaces became rather cheap after the Corona slowdown, or DDG really takes off now.7 -
Ever tried "CodeGolf" on StackExchange?
https://codegolf.stackexchange.com
I did it for a while and had some fun.
Until it became the usual dick-measuring contest that is StackExchange.
"Have you tried...?"
Bitch did I ask for your help?
The final straw for me was when it became obvious that people were checking to make sure I hadn't lied about my character count. Then someone downvoted my answer after I misinterpreted the question.
That was it for me, fuck y'all.
This C# Christmas Tree was my highest voted answer, approx 1 year ago. (Hope the gif works.)6 -
DevRant is cool, mostly because we are united. We don't agree on OS, language, theme, or tabs. But we are united by code. Next time you want to troll someone, think about why you became a developer. To Code.7

Became 30 yesterday.
If I were to die by 60, I'm at the halfway point.
If I were to die by 50, I have spent about two thirds of my life.
If I were to die by 40, well only left a decade left.
Sigh.12 -
I was going out with this really nice girl, funny, independent, with a knack for entrepreneurship... and eventually she found out I was a developer and she needed a freelancer... and that's how she became a client instead of a date.10
-
Oh my fucking god. This blessed feeling when your code finally works and you can remove all those fucking breakpoints and move on.
These are the moments I became a programmer for2 -
Don't know how those 5 mins of devrant surfing before bed became 2 hours of joy ride ...never have been a fan of social media, but this seems my kinda thing9
-
So I've been exporting a JSON dump of ~120GB for hours and when trying to processing it, and write it to a new file, I wrote to the same file. FML. Hours of export became 0 bytes in no time. Think its time to get some sleep.4
-
Just now I was compiling a new kernel for my laptop because the last ones were from before my rootfs became LUKS-encrypted. Then I found that option about SELinux again.. NSA SELinux. A MAC system that linuxxx praised earlier. Should I tell him? 😜8
-
I hate it how our profession became common over the last decade. We're nothing more than factory workers of todays day and age. Just take a look at petty midldle management above you all... and all underpayed and overworked devs out there... Nah, this ain't that glamorous proffesion I dreamed about as a kid.13
-
I didn't start coding until my 30s. I enjoy learning spoken languages, and heard on a radio show that computer coding works the same parts of the brain. Tried it and became an addiction. Been building things ever since, and now making it a career.5

*Working on android app life is good, but iMac suddenly became slow*

My manager just left the company to become a independent game developer. His game is also available in steam as early access.
He just became extra cool to me.
And he is using unreal engine for it.
That made him extra cooler to me 😁3 -
3 years ago I became the logistics coordinator of the very first edition of Hacknarök. Now I became the main coordinator of the 4th edition! Honestly I can't wait to do this 😁 I feel so blessed cause this project is like my child 😅2
-
I started building a website. V2 became a single page application without a framework. V2.5 became a content management system.
I don't dream projects I just keep building...4 -
Hey Dave and Tim!
Thank you for the stickers!
The post had a Surprisingly good timing because today I also became 21.
So thank you for this present! :)6 -
Javascript! What a fucking horrible language it is.
I just wonder why this fucking language became this popular nowadays just performance is not a good reason to use this fucking language everywhere.13 -
It was when I ditched React. I replaced it with raw JavaScript, with frontend being built with Gulp and Twig (just because HTML has no includes). Here are the results:
1. Previously, a production frontend build took 1.5 minutes. Build time became so fast that after I push the code, the build was done before me going to Netlify to check build status. I go there, and it’s almost always already done.
2. In a gallery with a lot of cards, with every card opening a modal, the number of listeners was reduced from N to one. With React, I needed 1000 listeners for 1000 cards. With raw JavaScript, I needed just one click listener with checking event target to handle all of the cards.
3. Page load time and time-to-interactive was reduced from seconds to milliseconds.
4. Lighthouse rating became 100 for desktop and 93 for mobile.
But there is one more thing that is way better than all of the above: cognitive complexity.
Tasks that took days now take hours. Tasks that took hours now take minutes.
Tasks that took thousands of lines now take hundreds. Tasks that took hundreds of lines now take tens.
In real business apps, it is common to build features and then realize it’s not needed and should be discarded. Business is volatile, just because the real world is volatile too. With this kind of cost reduction per feature, it became way less painful to discard them. Throwing out something you spent time and emotional resource on doesn’t feel good. But with features taking minutes to build, it became easier.23 -
Ever since i became programming-literate i cant just enjoy a game without thinking how everything how everything is working 🤦🏻12
-
I learnt my college junior some coding and development, and we became best friends.
Later I asked her out, and now we are not talking after that. 😅10 -
Became an uncle to two beautiful girls the other week. But the plan to make them the future tech support of the family is already in play! Hopefully they will exceed me in about 10 years, I'm a front-end dev so it shouldn't be that hard...
-
What's the first computer you ever used?
This was the year I became obsessed with computers. I was eleven years-old. My elementary school was gifted a computer lab (1983) with the Commodores seen in the picture (VIC-20s, PETs, C64s).11 -
I became github addicted...
I started to use it for any single little project I ever created, for documents, files not code related (of course private repositories), etc. instead of using a cloud storage service.
Please tell me I'm not the only one.5 -
I just had a nightmare.
I never became a developer. Instead I had a normal 9-5, didn't do work at home, slept well and spent my free time on social activities.
It was horrible.2 -
She died..
My gold Fish with freckles, I was calling her JavaScript. because I brought her as a joke and became the messier one on the bowl.2 -
I progressively became more right over the course of 30 years. At the point where I was contextually right more often than not, I determined that to be "good." Then I kept getting better, just in case.9
-
If my laptop made the same many sounds that computers in series and movies does, I would go insane and became as creepy, cynical and depressed as the people you see in those films and series using their computers are3
-
I realized how overly complicated I wrote certain object oriented code a few months ago and now I have to work around it...
I over engineered it... I became the very developer I hate5 -
Fucking tired of hearing the hatred against php. When I began learning php , i didnt know how unpopular it has became and now i' m in the middle of learning laravel, and i see people saying php is not even worth programming in. 😣25
-
Coding has actually made my life more social.
Because I taught myself programming, I became a consultant.
I got to meet nice colleagues, customers and managed to become good friends with some of them.
Because of programming, I moved to a big city and I have lived like a f*cking rockstar!2 -
I swear if I quit my job as a developer and became a stripper I’d still get adverts from udemy, code academy and the rest about become a developer 😭😭😭 when will they fuck off11
-
The guy who became my manager just pushes to the prod branch.
On a repo where another team clearly set up development and production branches.
This guy has been pushing code like crazy and I always wanted to take my time setting things up properly in our team: TDD, CI/CD, etc.
Because he pushed so much he became my manager and I was seen as unproductive.
Data Science and software development best practices just dont coexist it seems.
Yeah yeah, it's up to me to start introducing good practices, but atm "getting it done" takes priority over the real based shit.4 -
Tfw nobody but your mom remembers your birthday. I just became 20 but holy shit I didn't think I would experience the world of an adult this quick20
-
Ever since streaming became the primary mode of accessing movies and music, hard disk space more than 500GB became unnecessary for most people.12

While chatting with a colleague that just became a parent. He said he's uses Alexa for his smart home.
So I'm like hmm.. If you're always yelling Alexa... I wonder what the baby's first words will be...
And maybe that's the whole point... Conditioning the next generation to pick Amazon products as the default...6 -
I have successfully employed a function that uses recursion....
Because I stubbornly tried every possible iteration of the code until it became right.
I still don't get why it works.7 -
- How do you think, could you port our app to iOS?
- Never did iOS apps, but I will learn and try, maybe I will became iOS dev
Fuck, I'm still supporting it
Dear Android devs, never come to the dark side! It's a nightmare4 -
I remember when I was just a child, 6 or 7 I think, my uncle bought a computer and it was a magical thing for me.
When I became a little familiar with it, I told my dad: "I really like to make programs for computer".
And I still like programming.1 -
It all started with a simple shell script that ran a bunch of build commands.
Then it became a python script that ran a bunch of build commands because why not?
Now it's becoming an electron app with a jazzy UI.. that runs a bunch of build commands. Because why not! -
My mom told me I can be anything, so I became a masochist.
A.k.a. how I started a career in software development. -
Best: Got into game modding and had tons of fun! Learned a lot about Unity engine and became very comfortable with C#.
Worst: Abandoned my social life as a result of my new obsession. Need to find the balance.1 -
Story time!
I moved from React Dev to fullstack like halve a year ago. Three months ago I became project lead and now I will start to become a team lead.
Holy shit I'm growing fast2 -
So did CCleaner basically became an malware? I mean it even recreates autostart item if you remove it!

I was very hardworking (at least more hardworking than now)
But recently I've became very lazy , VERY LAZY !
I'm not happy abot that at all.
Any suggestion that'll help ?8 -
I had a job interview today. Things got a bit awkward when the guy doing the interview (a head of tech) brings into the interview one of their midweight devs and I became the interviewer rather than the interviewee.2

Chilled out with one of my non-programmer friends over the weekend. We were talking about various projects I had worked on, and he became interested. He started learning js that night, and I was proud.
Cut to today, he sends me a message complaining about some of the weird syntaxes in python. Super proud moment. -
Well is a long story, but to make it short, a friend started to teach me HTML after that at school they taught me c++, and after my first "Hello World" I was hooked, since then I became an addict to programming and now to devrant4

Conspiracy theory: An Arch user got laid with a vegan and had a child.. the name of which became Nix.
I get it, you use NixOS, great. But what impresses me the most is that its users somehow find a way to sneak it into literally *any* conversation...11 -
Once upon a time, devs were evaluated on the number of source lines of code written, and how many bugs were found and fixed. Needless to say, a ten line piece of code became 150 lines, a couple of bugs would be thrown in for good measure.4
-
Dear YouTube,
If you want me to fucking watch your fucking same ad every fucking 2 minutes, I will fucking fuck watch those fucking ads on my fucking TV.
Fed up. Moving to YouTube magisk ad-free module. Fuck off YouTube. Recently you became to greedy.
Fuck off.8 -
Been using linux for 10 months now and finally figured how to write looping statements in terminal itself instead of writing a script for that .. Life just became simpler..3

Used to be the intern in the company I work at...
Finally became a Jr software dev, I get to select the next intern...
That was 3 months ago, he has started and I get to bug fix all his stuff...
He's a nice guy tho -
If you didn't became a developer what would you be? What's your plan B?
Mine is to be a psychologist.38 -
On our Android tablet app, we had to have the hamburger menu on the bottom right corner (normal top left). It sorta became the floating action button...3

So I just recently found out there's a local idol group named MNL48 in here.
Basically bringing the seiyuu/J-Pop culture in the Philippines.
...
Maybe I should've became an idol instead of a senior high school programmer :/3 -
Me: I hate Windows/PHP/Gradle builds/etc
Other devRanters: Did we just became friends?
Me: friends is undefined. Please go to StackOverflow for undefined error.
*I'm still socially awkward* -
Some people get ego boost when they get positions like team lead or manager for software development team. In a nutshell you don't know shit about programming how the fuck you became tech lead? You fucked up the entire project that you managed and now shifting blame on someone else. Well fuck you!10
-
I just became the maintainer of an open-source repository with about 60k downloads / month.
Does anyone have any general suggestions for me? I feel like it's a big responsibility and it makes me a bit nervous.7 -
I hate that "integer overflows" have become somewhat pop culture because anytime I see someone try to use it in a joke, they use it wrong.
I've even seen people confuse them with stack overflows and be like "my intelligence is so low it stack underflowed and became the max of an integer value!"
Or "It overflowed and became zero again" ah, I guess it happened to be unsigned and overflowed by precisely 1 then eh?
So cringe15 -
When you become or became a programmer / software engineer, what are or did you reward yourself with for your hard work and success? For me, I want a Subaru STI😁12
-
Seems like my heavy Desktop-PC became portable for a x24 download-speed 😂
*80 GB for GTA V Steam-Version are worth it...4 -
Did anyone else notice how setting up a letsencrypt.org certificate for a domain became a lot easier as this year went on? Certbot + automatic renewal was set up in four commands on my RasPi, I remember it being more difficult to set everything up 🤔1
-
Bashing our fellow developers for using <insert tech> is not cool. This especially became overboard with PHP. And yes I've been guilty of this, despite using PHP before for so long as well.
https://justmarkup.com/log/2018/...5 -
Wow, great read for anyone that's interested.
https://linkedin.com/pulse/...
For example, this snippet is very true and I guess a lot of use know it. (It's how I became a programmer).1 -
That feeling of accomplishment when you finally finish that pdf tutorial book of 700 pages and it never became just another took you started. If only I can finish my personal projects now

Devrant became full of nazi lmao. A litteral fascist can threaten to be violent against immigrants and be upvoted but I am the spammer.
Fuck yall im doing a chaosqueenteam attack.

Guys may i have your opinion please.
Should i take a job opportunity seriously if they are asking me to do an AngularJS code challenge?
Taking into consideration that AngularJS became outdated or legacy few months ago.
What do you think35 -
Refactored my current portfolio grid :) Decided to remove margins for a cleaner look and removed slideshow functionality because things became too slow and it really doesn't need it.7

Just discovered that termux uses the volume down button as control... Mother fucker termux just became so much more useful!!!6

I don't think the Internet became toxic because of anonymity like all those people claimed post-90s
I think it became toxic because normal people with their real life cultures found it and brought their real life cultural norms onto it
I've been thinking why are video games communities so much more holistic than other types of communities
the last few years this is becoming less and less the case, however
and now even games suck.
games now, instead of their old cultures, are becoming derivative plain cultures
everything has to be easy, meaningless, shallow
everybody has to follow the meta or people rage at you with their entitlements to your behaviour
it's exactly like real life!
mystery solved11 -
So uh, after a gruelling job search, somehow I managed to bypass junior level and became a lead full stack developer on a meaningful project (not at a startup, either). 🤯1
-
coolest bug our team had was not a actually a bug but a feature that is misused and abused.
tldr: its a feature that became a bug
we have an app that has a "test print" feature to test the printer and the format of the document to be printed. it has the word TEST for fields and all that.
it became a bug when suddenly, the users use that feature to print documents, instead of using the app with the business rules and all, and just manually strike off the TEST words with a pen.
the feature became a bug because it has become a security risk. -
dont you just hate it when u want to hire devs but they ask for too much money so you decide to hire interns with experience ?
i became what i always despised6 -

Two containers had accident this morning. Result? Wasted 45 mins in traffic and my 90 mins commute to office became 135 mins.

It's unbelievable how many senior software engineers there are with 2-3 years experience within the industry... damn boy, you just became intermediate, if you're still not a junior8

From the moment I realised I was a TABs guy, and she a SPACEs person, it was all over. Love became terribly bad "indented" from that very moment.2

Not exactly a data loss, but on server hosting almost all of clients' websites.
$ crontab -e

Yugioh decks became so damn cheap, im really tempted to order a bunch and put together 2-3 good ones.6

My legacy is now indisputable in this company!
Utf-8 emojis for pipeline declarations will became a new era for pipes from now on.1 -
You start a project, it's a tiny Satan. Then you start coding it, when you see again it became a huge Cthulhu.

I became good enough to be hired as a developer by reinventing lots of wheels and making mistakes. A lot of mistakes.2

My first freelance dev job thing, turned out alright. For the first year though, the dev job thing became a tech support thing. Oh the horror.

Years ago I was on the board for the European Student Card pilot.
What a beauty.
It went well and fully operating around three years later. Then escalated and got a new project name, myAcademicID.
Requirements became more political so I left.
I am still registered on the dev & sandbox. AMA4 -
What was supposed to be an inoffensive shutdown during the weekend for maintenance became a nightmare today. The storage went to the space thanks to a system admin who was supposed to know what is doing. Since there is no power button I just pulled the power cord, he said.3

Anyone that ever experienced that a personal/hobby project (side to work/school) became successful?
How successful? Did it beco.e your main job?
Was it mostly luck or a lot of hard work?
Curious to hear peoples stories and how common it is.7 -
Finally became a 2GB lol just random but a milestone nonetheless. Thanks all for listening to my inner voice when i feel there is no place to get these recursive thoughts out of my head.
Have a great day2 -
Experienced programmer:
Code works in head; code almost works in computer; code never works with client.
Beginner programmer:
Code almost works in head; code never works in computer; code will never work with client.
Long story short: it's hard to begin but when you let the code flow, you became a programmer -
So it became a habit that I visit the cemetery on the way to work everyday because there's a pokéstop there.1

Anyone here tried the bluewhale game?
Apparently, government banned it and local tv channel is running news about it ( around 2 months after it became viral globally ). Many overnight "experts" think it is an actual mobile application game uploaded on all stores. What a joke!
I don't understand how anyone can be stupid enough to fall for such things..3 -
Wrapping up a project, I am cleaning code to give the customer the source code. The project had lasted over a year. I joined the team a few months back and it frustrated me how messy the code was. In my previous teams, any new resource was told to stick with the rules, and eventually they became embedded in them. The case seemed opposite here. Developers who wrote clean code became lax (they made me even more pissed).
Now I have the job of getting rid of warnings, formatting issues etc and I do not say this lightly, but, there was no fear of god in anyone who worked on this codebase. The code formatting I have seen makes me wanna...5 -
Can anyone tell me what all things a developer should follow in order to be upto date. It's just too long of a thing.
I have been a back end developer, became a big data developer, then moving to becoming a full stack developer. Now I don't know who I am anymore. -
with the easy decision of the boss I got promoted (without salary increase of course)
I am not just backend/devops/devsecops/qa/architect solution developer.
I became frontend and desktop developer too!5 -
JavaScript was born because Java and html decided to have a one night stand and html became too emotional to let go of it's kid...3

Programming deeply inspired me before it became my day job. Before Facebook conquered the front-end and API code space. Before Electron apps. Before D. Trump became president. Each of those dealt a hit to either my passion for dev or motivation to create software for others10
-
Just became an instructor at an microelectronics course, can't even finish a normal course due to social anxiety. Fuck.1
-
Why I chose computer science?
I simply played GTA vice city when I was a kid , and that's how I became a fan of cs!
SEEMS WEIRD I KNOW:/3 -
This is inspired from another rant I just commented on.
Would you rather build something that was technically pristine and something other coders would salivate over, but no-one used it
OR
build a hacky mess that was shit technically but became a “hit” with users.9 -
You know when you are suddenly push to a new position that you are not familiar with?
Well I just became a server database/cloud expert. Fuck me.
Been Googling for a while now. If anyone has any advice, I'll appreciate it.
Anything free and open source, even better.6 -
I just became the CS tutor for my university...the one thing I have learned:
Don't let them ask questions explain what they need to know and walk away. Let them down and find the joy of problem solving.1 -
Developed an update to our database procedures and tested it with local copy. After a few days everything was ready. Opened our server and started the update. After a couple of rows an error occurred. Turns out our production db is older version and does not support some syntax I used. It became a bit longer day at work...

I was shitting for so long that my legs became numb. These companies and rejections have filled me up so much with bullshit that i cant shit enough of it out of my asshole quickly enough8

Sublime Text could've became the greatest and fastest code editor of all time if it was supported with good extensions. Now we're left with electron based code editors that are slow with big projects.6

"Gmail was launched as an invitation-only beta release on April 1, 2004 and it became available to the general public on February 7, 2007, though still with beta status."
Then read this, and consider the date. And the fact about how blatant the intent was. I can't believe I never thought about it.7 -
I am recently hearing about some people in some companies emotionally scarring other people by talking about loyalty to a company whenever someone is leaving them. I never had to meet such geniuses. Have you seen the new telegram "istant view"??
I like the update they are making, expecially this istant view... Telegram can became the app for everything!

In next weeks i will try to do it in free time!2 -
With the advent of farming, losing the winter’s worth of food to rats and other vermin had become the difference between life and death for millions of people. Thus, house cats became indispensable. Next time you see a cat, show some respect — you owe your life to one.6

Definitely landing the first real gig.
I've been writing software since I was 12 (full disclosure: early code consisted of C=64 BASIC). I learned C in high school. Contributed to a MUD in my 20's. But I never got a CS degree and didn't really understand how hiring works, so I limped along doing technical support for years. Years turned into decades.
About 2 years ago, I became an embedded support person inside a development team. I got to show off my skills, and the year effectively became a live interview. Last October I finally got the title.
On the positive side, by taking the long way around I missed out on some of the insanity of the software world in the 90s/00s.2 -

At many phases of life, i had 3 choices : the difficult one , the average one and the wrong one.
I questioned the difficult one as it was too pointless to go on with, uncomfortable to follow and stressful to practice. Some guys chose that.
I pulled myself away from the wrong one because my parents always reminded me of the implications. Some guys still chose that
I went on with the average one because it was comfortable and cozy and didn't caused any Unknown chain of reactions. A lot of guys chose that.
The results?
The guys who chose the difficult ones became the pioneers/winners
The guys who chose wrong one became addicts and shame to society
The guys who chose the average one later chose the difficult one and became pioneer/winners
I took the average choice ,and then kept on taking the average choice and is getting the unique designation : "looser"
Must choose the difficult option next time :/14 -
Once LinkedIn was a professional platform, now it has became the platform where everyone congratulates what they do not understand. Worst of them all is the fucking fake fale title everyone has. And stupid one is people commenting interested to some moron's retard post.2

Today I think it became apparent why we have so many data and prod issues...
No one understands SOLID design principals... Particularly Separation of Concern. No wonder all the Spring (DI) modules look like a mess of God functions that are impossible to reuse and difficult to extend...3 -
This became a tradition when waking up DevOps. When I wrote the escalation SOP, I felt it needed to be included. I don't think anybody's noticed it yet...1

Man.. I wish I became a barista instead of a software engineer..
Like I know we make a lot but think about how socially acceptable we’ll be once we make coffee in a cool way for people..3 -
Our Daily Stand Up literally became a meeting with discussions and Q&A portion. Greater than 30 minutes LOL8

I was working on some ground sprites for a personal project and the inside corners became a sun :) p.s. it's not an animated gif.

Things nobody told you when starting to learn a new programming language:
Congratulations! You became a collector. From now on you will collect websites, books and a ton of related software.4 -
Since I became involved in backend dev, I do miss shaving.
Edit: which reminds me, I need to update my avatar.2 -
Sad to say, but StackOverflow became a worse place after the *everyone is welcomed* goal. I see way more stupid questions and 2010-like questions getting +3 votes. Wth2

NO ONE EVER MADE A DIFFERENCE BY BEING LIKE EVERYONE ELSE... And NO ONE EVER BECAME GREAT BY COPYING SOMEONE ELSE...7

When i was a kid i used to rage a lot. Past years i stopped and i became a very calm person. Even if i have to deal with jerks, i just ignore them and don’t get angry. And that’s the reason I can’t write rage stories 😒

That moment you’re sitting at a developers conference and some keynote about some lame business plan is given... We all know you came from nothing and became big because of the good work you did. Now, gtfo!

I love how my life became shitty and sleep is only 2 hours everyday! Thank you programming thank you! *Am I being sarcastic here?*

Back in the day I was a website administrator. At one point it involved cropping images in Photoshop for 6 months then doing data entry to new website. Man that sucked.
Encouraged me to learn to program then became a web developer at the same company. -
A web portal by a grandmother founder for active seniors during the dot com boom that became famous and helped a lot of people.1

I started learning programming by downloading phpnuke and tearing apart the source code. Before WordPress became popular there was phpnuke :) Google it you youngsters1

Two co-workers came late to our team-event because the POI on GMaps wasn't set accurately to the parking lot of the location.
We became dependent... -
1. Closed a solution.
2. Opened same solution, other branch.
3. "Get Latest" on the whole solution.
4. Build solution => Build errors (probably because some project needed be built before another).
5. Right-clicked a project => Build.
6. Nothing happened and VS2017 became completely unresponsive. Has been like that for like 10+ minutes now.
Nice? Nej, bajs.3 -
best: i became knowledgeable enough to be one of the biggest contributors in my company.
worst: salary cuts demotivated me to the point i barely commit thrice a day3 -
When it became clear I enjoyed it.
A job you enjoy in a field that pays well? I consider myself very lucky. -
I don't know what the hell this means or who the fuck came up with this idea, but it's funny how it became a popular repo http://bit.ly/2mM6wQm3

After being abducted and enduring torture, I injected the serum and became blur. Translucent black, with a red heart. I can make people disappear. Me putting someone inside my heart makes them feel 10,000 years of hell before they die.

Just a strong feel and will to pursue it! As the time passed by it became stronger.
Even in the challenges, when you find fun and happiness and satisfaction of after achieving it... that's what proves constantly.. as if.... -

Goals builder that follows SMART method for goals. What was originally intended as "rough draft" became a full blown SPA in less than 2 weeks. It's the ones you don't expect to go far that usually go the furthest. First "draft" took less two hours to build from scratch.. 😃

"I became a graphic artist because of the tools. I love working at a big drawing table with traditional tools: T-squares, compasses, mechanical pencils, French curves, blank ink, and graphite. At a computer, one works on a keyboard. I never considered myself a typist." - Michael Schwab1

I worked hard to learn it so I can impress and then ended up loving way too much that it became my career.

*almost lunch time*
[client] hey there's another field we missed out

Facebook. YouTube.
I went to foreign country for study around the time those websites were introduced to public and became popular among students. It was a cool place to be. Totally different from now.
Now everything and everywhere I look, all I see is people doing businesses instead of doing fun things. -

Postgresql kept shutting down at odd times. Then it became predictable. I googled, went through mailing lists, archives, old threads, Stack overflow, friends, family, my bosses, my old colleagues, forums, chat groups and paid redhat support.
Apparently, I'm the only one and the first on this planet to have this problem. And it's scary.6 -
This guy said he became a senior software engineer at Google after quitting his job as a baker with no coding experience
Idk about you guys but that sounds pretty scammy to me

When I was 8 years old and I mastered to get Gameboy games back working by blowing in the hole on the side of the connector, I've always said I would become game developer. I became one, minus 'game'.

My manager's manager doesn't know I exist.
How do I make my presence known to him, after all he controls how much raises and bonuses I get.
Tried scheduling an appointment with him weeks ago that he hasn't responded to. Saw him around my cubicle today and things became awkward3 -
this is how my mind processes gods and religions.
comparing to the current time, they are comparable to the movies.
like 'The Avengers' - 1, 2, 3, etc
they are the stories, for ENTERTAINMENT, of that time.
and along the way, they twisted and turned the scripture.
and the fans became the followers.4 -
!dev && rant(-ish)
Seriously, what's up with all the different "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" covers? Artists have created so many of them, that after listening to one or two covers, I get like 8 covers in my Weekly Discover or Release Radar on Spotify. It's getting annoying. I know it became a popular song of the new fans of Witcher, but if you plan to release an (n+1)th cover, just don't do it! It became boring and I will probably ignore your cover. Instead, you can create your own unique song!4 -
what is wrong with Firefox? Just within the last 7 days, I got probably 5+ updates. Its like every other day firefox gets an update! & most updates keep breaking things. Ublock origin used to work perfectly, now that keeps on breaking. Other extensions became buggy! Whats wrong with firefox? -_-

I think a lot of “confession of having impostor syndrome” on devrant is false humility. You really are an impostor, it became sth like i am perfectionist lies in interviews. Discuss(or flame at me, whatever).2

The first time you receive a recurring invitation from the client for a scrum.
"This just became a job!' -
What do you think about Powershell on Linux?
I personally like PS quite a lot, on windows. It quickly became one of my favorite languages, during my apprenticeship.
I also have an everburning hatred for python, so PS is kinda enticing to me.8 -
After my trainig period in the new job (10 weeks), I joined a different department with very expirenced guys, one of them got my mentor, with him I was at my first plant (continues casting platn where next to me where thousands of kg molten steel) where we updated all controllers to a OS. From him I learned all the real life best practice stuff as well as the internal dev tools.
Without him I would not be able to be mentor to my new college now.
And also he became a friend -
I became potus and wanted to cut military spending, but my cat learned how to pronounce the word “representative” and kept saying I was a bad representative1

I became a corporate tax auditor instead of struggling to compete with whores in all the hollowed out chomo fronts

There are two types of people who attempted to learn programming:
Those who are disappointed because they tried but failed to become a programmer
Those who became programmer for real but disappointed anyway7 -
Stall.
The problem you were trying to fix, when said stuck position became apparent, will probably no longer exist in a couple of days. Hence no stuck to become unstuck from.
Delete code causing stuck position. -
Today we had so much comp-sci at school that it actually became distasteful. And this comes from someone who is considered to be a big enthusiast and hype about computers...9

I cant believe how powerful and FAST nextjs is. Very smooth and lightweight. Easy to work with.
Also angular became super fast and smooth. 5 years ago in 2018 i remember working in angular and it was not that fast. The project structure was a bit messy. But now everything has drastically improved and became simplified.
I love both now. Happy to be working in both2 -
Right before I became a dev I was in school for networking, and even got to do an internship with the networks my department of a school but then decided to do the codez. It's been 2 years since and my dad still thinks I do networking things since he hears me mention servers . (I'm a backend developer)

Sharing WSDL documents with the outsourced team multiple times through the course of a project leading me to Google mental health services in their location.
After a year of this I'd willing to try electro shock therapy if it gave them peace from what I can only imagine is a confused nightmare of forgetfulness. -
Yes likely they’re boffing the boss
Actually I’m pretty sure that became the standard business model

I became familiar with basics after my mom bought a PC and disc with software which included FirstPage. She wasn't *that* angry getting a $100 receipt for the month of Internet I trafficked - oopsie, thatta large price, even after inflation.

Today " It's not a bug it's a feature" became true. Had an escalation where user reported as a bug. Team came up with an answer they couldn't resist to accept it as a feature. 😎1

Uh... What? This is for Live Transcribe... Why would I want to hide it?
Interestingly though, I now can't uninstall it... Maybe it became a system app with the last upgrade (Pixel phone)3 -
Once upon a time there was a dishonest fox and a vain crow. One day the crow was sitting in his tree, holding a piece of cheese in his mouth. He noticed that he was holding the piece of cheese. He became hungry and swallowed the cheese. The fox walked over to the crow. The end.3

ChatGPT is a manifestation of how characters from Star Trek TNG++ used to pair with the ship's computer.
Sure, sometimes the computer became sentient and tried to kill everyone. But they dealt with it, ya know? -
"Premature optimization is the root of all evil" - he quoted Donal Kunth words. Though it's not the worst advice. From then, coding became simple on achieving the task.

I think zimmerman's parents tortured him as well as tori by telling them everything meant something else and raping them continually until they became chomos and they wanted to share this fear with an adult who never experienced this, i think also my father tried to make me develop into a criminal. sigh.1

Ah, the eternal battle between "Allman style" and "K&R style" bracing. Because arguing over where to put an opening curly brace is what I dreamed of when I became a developer.
Can we just agree on something and move on?3
