How I've decided to answer the "can you hack" question from here on in...
"Can you show me how to hack this account please?"
"Sure, you'll need a hammer, a blow torch, chloroform, some pliers and couple of bottles of really pure vodka!"
"What the hell?!"
"Oh, it's so much quicker to just extract a password from a person, than it is to break into a system, I'm not exactly trained in inflicting pain on the human body, but I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out through trial and error, good luck!"15 -
My team: gets fired
8 other colleagues: here’s our notice, we leavin
Love it, they’re left with 4 devs so good luck finding people who know how to work in your 20 year old legacy that every app in ur company is built on lul10 -
A good rule of thumb when developing applications with a good user experience is to assume that your user is the dumbest person that is walking this planet right now, and make it so that one individual can figure out how to use your application.
Good luck..26 -
Boss: "Here's our new intern! He's a bloody genius doing apps! Perfect for that important project that shouldn't be trusted to an intern!!"
*takes intern 9 weeks to do a login view without any real backend*
Turns out the guy couldn't do shit but steal others code and change background color.
Boss: "He wasn't very good..."
Me: "You interview him. How about you bring a developer to the interview next time..."
Boss: "Doesn't matter. The app needs to be done the day after tomorrow, good luck"
Me: "............"
*puts on coffee, cries, programs the app in miserable silence*11 -
A recruiter just sent me a position which required 10+ year experience on ReactJS. So, should I reply "Good luck."?14

Another funny Linux encounter from my study that I suddenly remembered.
This guy said he didn't want to work with things/services that use Linux because he wanted to support software devs by buying software. I get the idea but yah...
Linux teacher: well then why don't you start with disconnecting from the WiFi. After that drop services like fb and WhatsApp which you use a lot. Also, good luck in the dev world as you're mooost probably going to encounter Linux and for being able to finish this study you'll need to succeed on Linux classes as well!
He just sat there like 'help'. A lot of fellow students were giggling as well.
Really though, my Linux teacher was an awesome young guy!11 -
Da Fuck!?!
Yesterday I found some abnormal activity on my server, someone was trying to brute force my ssh as root since two days! Started raging and installed fail2ban (which automatically bans an IP if it fails to log X times and eventually sends me an email). Woke up this morning to find that a fucking Chinese guy/malware spent the whole night trying to brute Force me!
Fucking cunt! Don't you have any better to do!!
My key is a 32 characters long encrypted key, with the ban he can try 3 passwords /2 hours, good luck brute forcing it you bitch!36 -
Me to HR lad: So yea I need you to process my resignation
HR lad to me (*silently whispering on phone*): I’ve resigned too. Good luck.2 -
Friend: hey I started learning java..
Me: great, good luck.
*After few minutes
Friend: Hey I heard you're good in java programming..
Me: yeah I know stuff.
Friend: So can you teach me all good things in java?
Me: but..
Friend: half hour is supposed to be enough, right?
Me: hell no, it's not like that..
this stupid thinks half hour is enough to transmit all my career to his stoned brain..
I am going to die!12 -
You start new job and take over huge codebase without tests and documentation.
It turns out programming language is custom language made by previous developer who was the only one maintaining project.
There is no source version control.
Language runs in vm developed in Fortran.
No one cared to this day cause everything was working.
Project is critical for multi billion dollar corporation that sells medical equipment that keep people alive.
You can’t test your code on real devices only on virtual ones that were made using same custom language but you can’t find source code for it.
Previous developer accidentally died before you were hired.
You signed contract with penalties that will ruin your life.
Your first task is to add “small” feature.
Good luck !12 -

My Neural Network can recognise handwritten digits!!!
It's my second try at NN so it's faaaar from perfect (or maybe even good), but hey, it's something and only with High schools, I'm pretty satisfied with the results. If you've not seen my previous post, I'm just trying to learn NNs in C and am doing just really basic things.
Still I'm proud of my progress!
Now I'm looking forward learning some library (OpenNN + OpenCV seems cool) and trying more advanced stuff, wish me luck 😆14 -

I'm moving out soon and normally when the hallway is filled with stuff/boxes, the landlord doesn't like that and you might get a warning.
I take that quite seriously and thus always tried to keep it clean.
Now I'm moving in a few days, hallway is filled with stuff and the landlord told he doesn't like that at all.
I can't be bothered much, my new room is already available, good luck with kicking me out now 😋10 -
This is not a joke. This is not something I wrote to be funny. This is not found randomly off the internet. This is a real part of the project I inherited: a function that not only is more cumbersome to use than the simple <Array>.contains that it wraps, but rather than returning the boolean result from the function, sends it through an if statement and returns hardcoded true and false values for... Good luck? I guess?47

Sorry John Doe, you're application for this job has been rejected. As we specified for this job you need to know about GitHub. In your CV you stated that you are an expert in git but our job requires the knowledge of hub as well. Good luck next time10

my boss went on vacation 1 day before the deadline. Then disaster came in. So we emailed him, and he replied.
"Good luck"9 -
In this case the person who quit was me.
Agency didn't pay the past 4 months, we asked at least the reimbursment of expences.
They told in a 2 hour arrogant speech that we must thanks them becouse they make us work even if they aren't paying. They said that "in this period these are the rules and we must accept this condition." So, I stand up, I went to shake the hand of the boss and others, I went to the door saying "good luck".
All the coworkers stand up and applauded.
Two months later the agency was closed declaring failure.6 -
Vsauce has made all of its Mindfield content free on youtube...
Watched the episode about moral licensing
TL;DR; If you do something very good you tend to compensate and give yourself a free pass to do not so good
It happens to me in software when I accomplish something really fast, like a bumpy process that is undefined and in most cases should take X amount of time, but due to luck + experience + right mindset I get it done like 5 times faster...
I end up wasting the other parts of the time feeling good about myself and exploring google maps and writing rants here...4 -
Recently I tried to apply for a job and the company sent me a task to complete. It was on Java, write an app to sort input file with ability to choose a method and dislpay it. GUI with Swing or JavaFX. They said normally it will took 8-10 hours to complete it and they wanted to see, what I can do in 4hrs. So after 4 hrs I've done~75% and sent it and after 2 more I've sent the whole app with monkey-proof protection (validations, prompts, etc). So total of 6hrs. I've followed MVC structure and implemented OOP principles.
They liked it and this Thursday I'm having an interview 😊
Wish me good luck :D6 -
I was expecting a 4th interview this afternoon for a position as a fullstack elixir developer.
Got a response from the CTO.
'Even if you pass all the tests with success, we could not go further because you're a junior and we're looking for a senior'
Well, dude, you've seen me 3 times and didn't understand that I was a junior ? My CV is not enough explicit ? It's written at the top of it...
So after a motivation interview, technical test, technical interview and Phoenix framework interview, they only realized yet the plot.
Good luck for your seniors to pass their knowledge to other seniors.17 -
One of my favourite, encryption puzzles is this:

The story of my webshop with this fuckin' asshole continues! I decided to stop with the webshop as my partner didn't do anything, so I handed over my shares to my business partner. This was done formally at the notary. Immediately after, we agreed that I would hand over everything that same week. 1 day later I cannot access any accounts. He said that a hand over was not necessary and that he took appropriate measures. Now, 4 months later, I got a letter from a collection agency telling me to hand over the tradename. Uhm what? Tradename? I don't own it so I replied that there's nothing to hand over. A day later again a letter that he will sue me if I don't hand over the tradename. Mr. Prick Lawyer, I understand that you mean the DOMAINname, but why the fuck do you keep referring to the tradename?! You too stupid to understand the difference? So, to get rid of this crap I made an offer to sell him the domainname, which he accepted. But mr. Asshole moved the shop to a different hostingprovider thinking that the dns would be magocally updated. Of course not asshole. So I offered (to be cooperative) to update dns so his site will work again. I did. A day later again a letter that site still not reachable and he'd sue me for all damages etc.
What a muppet show! You think ypu can sue me because YOU made a config mistake? He's a funny guy! I told the lawyer to not send me any 'issues' caused by mr. Asshole's unprofessional acting and if he does, I'll charge him for every second spent.
Today mr. Asshole's webshop says 'Apache is functioning normally' and that's it. Well done, asshole! See how eaay my job is and how little knowledge it requires? You proved ypu can do it yourself Big boy! Good luck selling shit on your website. Good luck with your seo rankings. And good luck fucking yourself in the ass!
Now I'm going to sue you because of copyrights violations. You use my software and you don't have a license. Either pay or remove it or I'll make you pay!5 -
C: hey mate, what's the best tool to open up this 31.1M rows x 106 cols CSV file?
M: Umh...Pandas DataFrame or R DataTable I guess?
C: all right, Excell will do, thanks!
M: erhm...yeah, anytime?11 -
Email subject: Urgent need for developers!
Email body: We found you in our database, and think you're a match for this position! Requires 5+ years of C++ experience
Apparently C# == C++. Good luck finding an appropriate candidate, buddy. I was tempted to send them an email pointing out their error, but I'm not too good with "pointers"4 -
Got a call from Google!
Asked for two months to study: Discrete mathematics, Calculus, introductions to algorithms, design patterns, CTCI and linux/unix OS workings in general.
I know I'll be banging my head against the wall and I don't have my expectations too high. But regardless I feel like this is a good excuse to speed up my studies and push myself in the direction I want to go already. It'll be a win-win even if I don't land the position because I'll definitely gain a ton in the process of preparing.
I will be expose to all of this material (except for calculus because I've been learning it for a couple of months) for the first time so I know it'll be a challenge and I am looking forward to it.
If any of you have any tips on good study habits that'll be much appreciated; I currently like to read most of my material and supplement with videos/tutorials... Khan is great but they lack material on discrete mathematics unfortuantely. Thanks in advance!
Wish me luck (:8 -
The live devRant AMA/event thingy is in a few hours I think?
Gotta go to sleep right fucking now.
Don't want to get spoiled by the rants tomorrow morning.
This means nearly a whole day of no devRant 😫.
Anyways, good luck dfox and trogus!8 -
Off to an interview with a design agency I didn't apply because of people who I don't know referred me.

Jr: I'm having a problem with my environment, can you help me?
Me: Sure! Did you switch to the latest Ubuntu LTS
so that your environment matches the rest of the dev team like you were asked to do the last 3 times?
Jr: No, I like Windows better because linux is too complicated. Can you just figure out how my environment is suppose to work and than fix what I did wrong please?
Me: No. Let me know if you ever need help with the our standard dev environment. Good luck!24 -

HR: "Thanks for reaching out - your resume is quite impressive! Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's a great fit at this time. We'll be sure to keep you in mind should our needs change in the future though. Good luck!"
Me: "It is unfortunate to hear, but I appreciate the reply. May I ask where exactly did I fall short, so I may be better informed and prepared for the next time I apply anywhere?"
Let's see how this goes. Biggest hurdle? Landing the first job, I swear :(5 -
Microsoft brute-forces password-protected archives in OneDrive.
“Microsoft will decrypt, open, and scan protected Zip archives uploaded to the company's cloud servers in search of potential computer threats. Security researcher Andrew Brandt recently discovered the issue while trying to share malware samples with other researchers through SharePoint.”
This is when I encrypt my archives, I use _very_ long passwords generated by Bitwarden. Like this: qkYdE5i@27yHTTj8YsMDKQ9^mo$j@!P^M4qA95Y5VqR*53otAMuMv$9sdxtF4HAuNdAYoW9RPVxucJ3
Good luck bruteforcing that, Microsoft!

my job offer reply rant from today >>>>
Hi,
thanks for the offer but reading from job description your solutions look obsolete, old and complete mess to me.
I am mainly focused on modern open source, flexible technology stack and this job would not be a challenge I am looking for.
Good luck
Kind regards

Junior coder says validation is not needed on asp.net mvc form pages because it is not in the requirements or part of the definition of done. Wants to argue about it. Refuses to do it. Says I am over optimizing or some shit like that. Good luck with that. If you can't figure that one out or listen to feedback perhaps you should become a project manager not a programmer.11

I closed the lid of my laptop and went for a lunch. When I came back the damn machine wouldn't start and I realised I didn't push anything to github today so wish me luck recovering data from the drive.
(At least lunch was good.)6 -
In acting you don't say "good luck" but instead "break a leg". If coders were superstitious, what would our equivalent be?21

Just tech screened a kid for a senior Network automation role, in a specific niche.
He's never automated anything before. Didn't know networking basics, didn't know about the niche...
This guy hasn't heard of unit testing or UDP... good luck out there kid. You've got balls anyway.14 -
To my friends in Ireland, stay safe tomorrow, it's probably going to be nasty storm. Good luck and
1. Git commit
2. git push

So my boss told be about this game, try it out the next time you have an office party with other developers. It goes like this... You all sit around a table with shots ready to drink at your disposal, each person takes a turn and must simply say a noun, it can be anything. The next person must then Google the noun + '.js' added to the end, if the library exists, that person must drink a shot. Continue until everyone is sufficiently in a vegetated state. Good luck!4

A colleague of mine is having a date tonight and it is not an update. he was insanly excited. so I hope that will calm him down a little. good luck tonight bro ;) -
Took the Amazon online test today. Aced technical and coding questions. But screwed up with aptitude questions. Fingers crossed. Wish me good luck.5

I need to make a confession about my terribly unprofessional project I made. Around two years ago I got thrown for the first time into back end development - I had to work on the project alone. As a very smart man I basically exposed our SMTP server as a nice and very flexible API.
Fortunately it was, by the design, a very short-lived project, taken down from the web completely and for good after around 2 months. I'm still happy I had more luck than brains and nobody used our server as a spam sending service in our name and I have learned a valuable and relatively cheap lesson in security this way.1 -
do you have a GREAT eye for design?!
can you write a bubble sort algorithm in binary?!
do you know native, desktop, embedded, AND web programming languages?!
do you know you can go fuck yourselves?!
good luck unicorn searching 🤡 companies. there is no human that can do all of those on a level that you want. but, go ahead and set yourself up for failure. i'll remain firmly grounded on planet earth 🌎6 -
Sorry devrant I have to fix my life before I can spend time on you again 😔.
Good luck to you all might be some time before I'm back 😢 but you are my people!
Good luck8 -
I hate cliched lines in office.
When someone I respect leaves the company I don't say "Good luck for your future. Keep in touch". I shake hands, look them in the eye and say "It's been an honor"
On a birthday I don't say "Happy Birthday". I say "May you grace the cover of Time magazine" or something else related to their aspirations.3 -
Dev manager: Php 8 is around the corner and i'd like to move the project to it
Dev: this would be a huge change I don't think you understand what you're asking...
Manager: Yes I understand, we'll plan 2-3weeks for the migration
Dev: the app is under symfony2.4, what you're asking is completly off the mark
Manager: look we'll plan it and we'll see don't be pessimist
Dev: ok whatever
I left the company, good luck to my fellow dev5 -
The past few weeks were not so good to me, but guess what, I got hired today. And now, i'm thankful that i got rejected from the previous ones. Wish me luck on my career as a junior dev. :)8

Worst thing I've seen a Dev do? Blame others even if it shows in the git blame that it is his fault 😂 no equality, ego and hard headed. Wants to show every one that he's always right 😂 well good luck with karma. What an attitude lol

I will be pitching my startup idea for the first time in my life to potential investors one on one after qualifying for a second round in a business competition.
I am nervous 😬, desperately need to get the fund, and haven't been a good presenter.
Background: the business is still on prototype stage.
I stutter by default if I am slightly nervous.
From feedback my prototype is great- but my pitching might not be too great.
Damn I just have less than 6 hours to pitch.
Fuck this nervous mess.
Dev wish me good luck😶13 -
A few years i had wrote a little script as a proof of concept for remote injection via torrent files.
Yesterday, some doofus bruteforced into my seedbox and tried to install a miner using the same script🤦🤦🤦
Did some digging, found my way back to him and wiped the drives on his system as a gesture of thank you. Anyways, I hope he didn't have anything important on his 16TB volume, cause good luck recovering that11 -
My personal AWS account just got suspended and it was the most terrifying thing ever.
It's back up now and reactivated once I paid up. Just a bounced payment on an old account caused it but for any of you out there who have this fear this what happens:
1. Amazon email you with reminders every few days.
2. The emails change to give a shut off date.
3. Your account is then locked after that date.
4. If you want imminent attention you have to pay $49 to talk to them.
Bonus tip : go to their billing page on your account, this isn't locked and allows you to pay up without paying the support fee.
Good luck!4 -
I applied for a google step internship today. My cv is pretty good (people say). University transcript is a malformed csv and I am forced to provide a screenshot. Wish me luck.3

Because DevOps in a lot of organizations is really “help desk for clueless developers”, conversations like this happen a lot:
Dev “hey the thing seems to be not working right”
Me “what does that even mean? I need you to be a good deal more specific. What thing. What isn’t working?”
Dev “I dunno”
Me “Are there error messages?”
Dev “yes”
Me “….would you like to share them with me?”
Dev *sends error*
Me “ok did you actually read this error message?”
Dev “yes”
Me “…so you’re good then? It says you’re trying to use a variable that hasn’t been declared yet. You should fix that. “
Dev “…”
Me “good luck”13 -
My job quickly went down the shitter. A mass exodus happened, with half of top talent leaving, and the other half let go. The gig started out great, and offered me the growth I needed at the time, but sadly, life changes and moves on.
Determined to leave amicably on my own terms, I started looking elsewhere about a month ago.
I got an offer today! It's a perm position to offer stability to my fam, but with a consulting firm, so I'm excited for the relatively consistent change of pace with projects, technologies and clients. After spending years on end working on good projects that fizzled out and never saw the light of day, I'm longing to have my code released to the wild! (Not counting various patches and bug fixes)
Wish me luck!2 -
8 years later, i have successfully failed my first company. Good experience but for now burnt out.
To fellow devs who are considering entrepreneurship , don't be afraid, try it until you are young. This month I will lay off my last employees, luckily with bonus and 3 months worth of salary, i wish them best of luck. Difficult to explain but I am as happy in the end as i was in the start, just older.12 -
Mom: "so... you do things with the computer, but what do those things do?" or "I have no clue what you just said, but good luck with that"
Father: "couldn't you have gotten a real job? Like machining or warehouse management, where actual work can be seen rather than sitting on your &ss all day, typing on that keyboard"
- he changed his view real quick when I showed him my paycheck. ($3/ hr more than him)
Brother: "cool"
Ex-gf: "I hate you" (more because of my starting pay)3 -
Most normal people will now be heading home before enjoying their weekend with alcohol and hopefully friends and family.
However I can get pissed on 2 bottles of cider. Friends are busy tonight and family is elsewhere.
So tonight will be spent on designing a side project drunk and tomorrow will be spent repeatedly saying "what the fuck" while reviewing it. Either something good or something terrible will happen. Wish me luck.8 -
So have been learning programming by myself for a while now and have become good with python.
Will be quitting my current job this month as a HR/Social Media Manager to pursue a paid career in the tech ecosystem in a new city.
Wish me luck.5 -
A week ago I put in my two weeks at the current company I'm a Software Engineer at because it has been one of the worst places I have worked at and start work on July 5th at a new place as a Senior Software Engineer and have heard only good things about everything! Can't wait to start!!!!2

Worst hypothetical Dev job... hmm 🤔 well I think I have the right scenario for you. A medical company stores patient charts and critical life saving information in a database. This database makes medical decisions for lifesaving incubators and if there’s a bug it means 10,000 newborn sick babies will die because of your fuck up (oh and you’re criminally liable too so good luck!). But beyond the high pressure job that sounds at least somewhat normal, the database is written in a special form of assembly for a custom undocumented CPU where only one copy in the world exists so all tests and development are on production. Google and StackOverflow is banned so your only resource is your brain. Good luck🍀9

Professor:
For your first assignment, create a Java application which can do the tasks X, Y and Z but make sure that your output is formatted exactly the same as my two examples in the PDF I've provided. You don't know if these are tabs or spaces? Just pick one and hope for the best. Oh, and don't forget to save all the generated objects in a Collection. The fuck do I know how they should be sorted in there, just make it look the same. Anyway, you can upload your code on our server sometime next week where your program will then be tested. Good luck.
PS: All my presentations are written in Comic Sans. I heard you kids love that shit.3 -
is google fucking with me today?
today i was accepted for some google summer internship program thing. they send me a google form right? so i open it up in chromium and it doesn’t work. it doesn’t let me type in any textboxes or anything. i try to fix it and no luck. then, i copy the link to firefox and voilà, it works.
so, google forms didn’t work in chromium but did in firefox? alright. then i check off yes, send me a copy of my responses to my gmail account. and guess what? gmail classified that as SPAM. google email classified a google forms email as spam.
good work google, you’re fucking stupid.7 -
The MS Teams SDK is bullshit. It's so half baked and comes with instructions like "you'll probably want a better implementation for production, good luck cause you'll have to write it yourself."
Oh and don't forget to cache your installations in a file called "notifications.json"
Deploying will create 2 app registrations (OIDC) and about 6 resources in Azure... But "you'll probably want to log to app insights in production"... So I hope you're very familiar with Bicep cause you'll have to figure out how to add that to your template properly and there are about 7 Bicep files to decipher and it doesn't create an app insights out of the box.
Probably written by an intern.2 -
So my manager calls me in today and says "Congratulations for getting the excellence award, but I'm sorry we can't give it to you as you're still a contract employee. But hey you did a good job 👍"
IDK if I should be happy or sad. Or just say FUck my luck and get back to coding 😂4 -
When some one at the company decides to branch off from the main codebase and end up with several outdated and separetely modified branches for two years.
Yeah nice work genius and good luck with resolving over 250 files of merge conflicts.

I cant express how outraged this makes me feel.
Me to my PM months ago (when I started) "we should upgrade the versions of node and angular when I do the tests (because yes, no tests at all)
Boss:"why? No no"
Our version of node 0.10.40 has no support any longer. But hey, I'm leaving that role :-) good luck new guy if new guy comes....2 -
I'm gonna cheat a little since i don't like alcohol 😁
School projet, designer sends me final design less than 24 hours before the deadline, i coded all night long. 17 hot chocolate bowl. I never got the luck to be in the same flow than that night. Each hot chocolate made me stronger, lines of code were running, CSS was perfectly good first try.
Once code was submitted, i slept for like 14 hours. I woke up hugging my pillow.
I'm pretty sure i was drunk with hot chocolate.1 -
Dear DevRant,
Tomorrow, I get to defend my memory (the document I finished 3 weeks before deadline, remember?), which means that I am a month away to finish my studies forever. I am totally fucking scared but, heh, the key not to panick is to think it's already too late, just go til the end while avoiding saying bullshit as much as you can.
There are so much things I want to do, from sleeping one month straight, to shove my resignation letter in everyone's ass. Hopefully, everything will happen soon enough :)
I just want you to know that it feel so good to be a member of a community that is so relatable about anger you can feel everyday, it feels so good.
Love y'all, and wish me luck

Nobody solved this super complicated cryptography puzzle last time. I guess I have created an unsolvable mystery of epic proportions. Anyway, if you wanna give it a try, go ahead:

Answer is a sentence in plain english. Space is used, but no punctuation. Post answer to comments. Good luck :D20 -
Shit recruiters say:
"We need solution experts, not language experts, because a language is just a tool."
Well then, good luck with your spaghetti code solution.3 -
So I finally get code in Xcode able to compile and run after crashing in main()... due to obscure settings in it's build it does not like. Took hours of hunting around, googling, and used up all my craps table luck for the month.
Now, out of the blue, after a good 30 test run, edit, compile, run cycles... BOOM, the god damn thing starts crashing at before main() again. No friggin idea why.
Xcode says SIGABRT to me... yea well I got something for you Apple Xcode... 🖕🏼1 -
So it's done. I signed my new contract with my new company after I left my old job. Better contract level, better pay, better benefits (at my old office they didn't even give me a pc. I had to use mine..)..
But the sad/funny story is that my old boss do not talk to me anymore because he can't understand why I'm leaving..sooo mature!
I really don't care because actually he do not deserve anything from me, he's (and forever will be) an arrogant prig without humility.
The only regret is leaving the co-workers I bound with..but I'm sure we'll be in touch.
Yep.. maybe this is definitely a rant/story!
Wish me good luck for this new adventure!2 -

Idk if people noticed but Snapchat CEO allegedly said that he doesn't want to expand in poor countries like India and Spain.

Yesterday was the first day of my final exams. (They are scheduled this whole week) First exam was programming on paper and it went surprisingly good. I'm pretty sure i made one or two minor mistakes but overall it should work. (3 tasks: program a calculator; program a car-showcase program and explain quicksort) We had 3 hours to do this and even though i needed them i didn't feel any pressure. That was really nice. Thank you for calming me down the last days/weeks and ensuring me that i can do this.
I hope today's going as smooth. Exam of the day is networks. Wish me luck^^8 -
So recently I completed side gig from random freelancing site where I had to shadow troubleshoot performance problems over teams call with random Indian guy on his client's AWS account. Long story short you can autoscale new instances all you want but it's not gonna help if your FIFO sqs has only one message group ID. This architecture is running an online game, which is basically limited to processing ONE event at the same time for ALL players xD
What's even better, basing on naming convention I realized it's a company that I interviewed for like 4 months ago and they told me "we need someone with more experience". Well good luck, thanks for quick cash -
Fucking A.I. resume filter bots.
As if tech interviews weren't hard enough, I have to fill my resume with keywords to get past a bot! Every damn application and cover letter has to be unique.
And when I get past a bot, a hiring manager replies with "Sorry, you seem to have more experience with Typescript than JavaScript, and we can't take that risk."
It's the same.damn.language.
Yes, I spend my spare time with C and Python. Why does that say "unsuitable candidate" instead of "versatile"??!!
$#*%!?&@ tech industry.
Take your "Good luck with your future endeavors" and stuff it up your ass.1 -
So our main web server got ransomware'd.
By some miracle only a shared directory was compromised and not the whole server.
The server is on an end-of-life OS (Win Server 2008r2), no antivirus solution, no WAF, no log hardening or aggregation, so basically our Security MSP told us "lol good luck finding the attack origin, nuke it and rebuild it correctly this time"
Thing is IT leadership is like "Eh, no harm done, everything is fine" and want to sweep it under the rug and not report it to senior management.
How do i go about convincing them that this is actually important and for once in their life, they should give a fuck ? (This web server is the main moneymaker, it goes tits up and heads are gonna roll).9 -
Quitting job because of Java and legacy corporate OSGI codebase. Being junior developer I'm just done with no documentation, terrible team support and non existent code review. After 18 months I can't justify staying any longer. Never had luck with Java and I guess some things just stay the same.
Joined only because of Javascript part, just to be thrown into fullstack position. Stayed way longer because of COVID. Good old simple PHP I loved and foolishly left because of money.4 -
Speaking of fragile environments, what the hell is going on with the absolute dependency on python...?
I mean, I'm as reluctant to upgrade my system's python version as libc's.
How to break at least half of your system:
1. python3 --version
Python 3.8.10
2. rm -f /usr/bin/python3
3. ln -s /usr/bin/python3.13 /usr/bin/python3
And good luck opening most of the UI utilities and some of the terminal-based ones.
wtf... While everyone's barking at systemd, python quietly crawls in and claims the system's flexibility for itself w/o any resistance.
I imagine that's one of the aspects making NixOS a resilient solution...12 -
My 5 cents about refactoring.
People often postpone it, making it harder down the line.
From my experience, it's better to just do it as you go. 5 min can otherwise become 30 min thing after a while, and combined with some other 5 min thing, this can become 2 hour thing after some time, for example.
Also good luck convincing management (especially bad one), that you need 2 weeks of refactoring. Doing tiny 5 min refactoring, no one will notice.7 -
There's nothing more horrifying than seeing the code made by Java Swing. Good luck trying to find label1X5zPotato and what it does.

What the sh*t is this kind of response?! One of my corporate department's internal API returns THIS.
LOOK AT IT. LOOK. "NULL". What are those malformed closing / ending brackets?!
(request headers have accept: application/json btw)
And, as a final "f*uck you", the "IPG_API_JOBD_NC_RESP_P_COLL" is returned as JSON object if response has one element to return, but will be JSON ARRAY if result has more than one element.
Good luck, you there with strongly typed languages..... Boils my blood 😅4 -

I am about to do the unthinkable.
I am going to a place no dev wants to go.
I am about to take an unhinged decision everyone would warn me against.
I am about to cause a change to my future, whether good or bad I guess I'll find out.
But what I do know, is YOLO.
I'm deploying to production on Friday just half an hour before I log off for the day and come back on Monday.
Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.9 -
Ya sure 0-2 yes experience with all those requirements + 5 more items hidden cuz of my tiny screen.
What is even more interesting they would like that person to know Swift UI.... It's not even out of beta ....
Also must know C#? For real... Those people do xamarine and native projects and they r not even a software company, they sepcialize in architecture
I hate it when people do this, like take the best at lowest price, that poor Dev is busting his ass to get your job done and you take the profit and give him the remaining change?
Hope this world doesn't get worse than it is....
By the way, job is for Full stack iOS developer 🙄17 -
Today is the first day of the last year of my bachelor's degree.

I'm reinventing the wheel by making yet another neural network library. It's not any good yet but I learn as I go along.
The only documentation that exists now is the admittedly quite comprehensive code comments. I'm it because Keras (using TensorFlow) requires a 3.5 compute ability rating for CUDA acceleration (which I don't have) and it doesn't support OpenCL. Eventually, I will make my implementation support both with varying levels of acceleration for different compute capabilities with the oldest supported being my hardware. If I ever get around to it.
I'd say wish me luck but determination would be infinitely more useful.2 -

Client wants solution based on open source software.
Any additional software that I write (let's say, an offline store plugin for Feast feature store) to add missing functionality has to be closed source.
Fuck you. Intellectual property my ass. You and me wouldn't even have projects if it werent for OSS.
Good luck maintaining the plugin after I am gone.

The current project I'm working with had 3 devs including myself until Jan 1st. Now we're only two, because our lead/manager started to work in other projects and trusted us.
Since that happened, my first PR/Commit of the year was in Jan 5, and it's still open, without any kind of review or comment, as well as my other five (eight in about a day) PRs, while he's making commits directly into develop/main branch, causing conflicts everywhere on what I did...
I'm leaving on friday because the contract is ending.
Good luck I guess.1 -
FUCKING HATE VUE 3
It's pointless, it's not an incremented version of Vue 2, it's basically a completely different framework, probably one nice to start a project with... But migrating from an existing Vue 2 project to Vue 3...
What the hell were they thinking!
first, setup() with all the logic and functions in it DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE to me!
second, your old DEPENDENCIES NO LONGER WORK!.. good luck finding replacements for EVERYTHING, and do the necessary adjustments to work with the LASAGNA CODE YOUR PROJECT HAS BECOME!!
PS: the update/upgrade PR has almost 300 changed files!!!!19 -

Be me, get a consultant job, go to a supposedly great client that has fame of getting scouted by Google. (attn: I doubted all this shit before I started)
Learn the basics by a awesome mentor and trial/error stuff at the same time to get the hang of things, after that was done, I noticed there was no documentation whatsoever, code is spaghetti and your documentation, good luck!
Royal spaghetti, you can't make heads or tails of it, dev code in production, empty try/catch blocks, empty statements, if (true)... (incl. their core classes)

Why python can't into proper dependency management?
I Node.js we use npm. Modules are downloaded per project and packaging is easy.
In Java we use maven/gradle. Never been so easy to build and download libraries and package your project.
But in Python? No, it's not easy. You have to use virtualenv first so pip/anaconda won't download globally, then you must write setyp.py in a million different ways. Packaging and distribution to clients? Good luck with that.21 -
Okay today I wrote a very ugly api.. No f***king json mapper will handle that response in java. The values are dynamic... Good luck to anyone who will integrate into it... And good luck to anyone who will look at my code

Alright, it looks like everyone at this bank, a client, I work for will now start avoiding me. I'm usually the only person that takes the time to review PRs and give a feedback. Everyone just seem to click accept because they can't be bothered.
A few months down the line, they begin to wonder why there is so many tech all over the place.
Good luck to anyone that wants me to review their PRs. I pledge to continue to take the time to review PRs and give feedback. I will not be pressured to click the accept button on what I perceive to be sub-optimal code. So help me God.2 -
Oh ffs, just fucking inject a chip into my finger already for authentication purposes, you can track my every fucking move if you so wish. When a web page like twitch uses 2FA it boggles my mind because its a page where you're watching some fucking videos.
"hey there, so out of the blue, we send you a code to your email, we won't tell you which so good luck. Also, you cannot copy paste this code because we did that fucking thing where each character has its own textbox"

Legit Apple Interview
There are three boxes, one contains only apples, one contains only oranges, and one contains both apples and oranges. The boxes have been incorrectly labeled such that no label identifies the actual contents of the box it labels. Opening just one box, and without looking in the box, you take out one piece of fruit. By looking at the fruit, how can you immediately label all of the boxes correctly?
Those who got it answer it directly on Saturday/Sunday until then good luck10 -

So this project manager from a start up contacted me about a few Jobs are they are looking to get done for their app. They asked for cost and I gave them a ballpark range depending upon the type of work. Anyway, after getting a tour of their over engineered app with 128 menu items for a users to go through to get something done, I gave them the hourly rate on the "higher" side of the ballpark which was $5/hr more than lower. Guess what, next I get an email with 4 huge paragraphs, explaining how I am trying to charge them so much extra and is way over the quote. I passed myself laughing and wished him good luck with their start up... -
oh yes, i'm a print designer and stuying UX / Interaction Design. And on every interview for a digital designer job they expect some kind of messiahs who will save them into the world of digital design. I've worked with few incompetent people till now, but one guy who stands out is my peer who is a "Lead Developer".
First of all he knows nothing!! Even Jon Snow knows something, but this guy knows absolutely nothing. And on top of that he has a hard ass attitude. Never sticks to coding standards, pushes unwanted configuration files to Git, uses too many nested loops even when not even a single one is required.
And when I suggest him something, he starts giving these lame ass reasons and tries to avoid my comments. Then I say, "good luck with that buddy" and move on!!1 -

Oh I forgot to tell y'all that I've got a research internship at IIT Indore for these summers
IIT is India's Governmental Engineering college and is highly respectable
I know a few people here who study at IITs, but Yay! I got a nice and good internship which will actually tell me how to proceed in research and not do a mess of shit like I did last year's summer holidays and also made so bad of a relation with one of my professor that I can't even look in his eyes whenever he is nearby me

Wish me luck guys

The company that I work for just opted for PHP in favor of Elixir, Node and Scala(Akka really) for building a high-concurrency system, because we have more people who work with PHP (mediocre skill really). You know what fuck github , anyone remember when git cli was easy and straight forward to use
Now i have conflicting master branches because the remote is main and git automatically defaults to master.
Git still asks for a password while github can't wait to inform me how I have to go through the very long process of setting up an auth_token.
Apparently https remote origins for some reason don't work anymore, why because apparently i need to change them into ssh, good luck with the public key errors

I use console.log for debugging in JS, but I might try .alert as I feel that it could make me feel like a person tracking status of a rocket launch. Maaaan, we all knew it was coming, we were warned, again and again, yet still, when Lets Encrypt's old root CA expired today, we found out a tool we were using to get new certs (Not cerbot, custom wrapper around acme-tiny) included the old root in the chain.
So... A few hours ago, some of our servers started having connection issues.
Great final 3 hours of today. Better luck next time I guess? Still, despite the little hickup, Lets Encrypt still remains as one of the biggest revolutions in the adoption of SSL, they're the good guys.5 -
The iPhone is only good for consuming apps, that's it. If you want to use it for anything else, good luck.
Its keyboard is miserable.
Its browser is the new IE.
If you connect to a share folder, at random you lose all networking and you have to restart the phone.
You don't reliably get notifications so good luck explaining to your boss or client or girlfriend why you didn't reply back for hours.
Once the battery permanently dies, you're just expected to spend another $1k for the privilege of this suffering.
It took over 25 edits to get to this point in the message. I had to restart this status symbol 3 times in the last 24 hours in order to restore its ability to communicate. It is agony to use this substandard pile of garbage and it has objectively made my quality of life worse in the 18 months I've had it.
It's an iphone 12. I bought it new from the store. I thought Apple only intentionally made older phones unusable through updates, but this has been unusable since the beginning.19 -

Not imposter syndrome but definitely a moment of self doubt.
Am I good enough?
Been applying for jobs and couldn't get through.
Most of my applications are in neighbouring continent and visa is the primary filter to get rejected. Thanks to COVID-19, it is even more difficult than ever.
And for those applications where I land interviews, I am being ghosted in final rounds.
Quite strange that teams don't even care to reject anymore. Just leave me hanging to assume the worst, the truth, the reality which I don't want to face.
And self doubt creeps in where I see people with average/below average capabilities and skillset are able to find better jobs.
I am not comparing myself, undermining their struggles, or playing the blame game.
All I am saying that luck plays a huge role in how things work out.
You can still fail even after doing everything right. Or am I just dumb enough to not know where I am going wrong to improve?
At this point, if I reflect on past, seems like all the offers I have got in past were purely based on luck.
I am aware that this is temporary and things shall change for good but boy, this feeling sucks.11 -
My company is supposed to be 'remote friendly'

I want to improve my front end skills and pick up a JavaScript framework as well as getting into Raspberry pi projects to get back in touch with my robotics background prior to development.
Good luck in your own goals everyone!1 -
The entire react "return of a useEffect is its cleanup" is one of the most retarded design decisions ever. Hello, you can't have async functions. Do you want to return early and still have a cleanup? Good luck, hope you like debugging. Who the fuck came up with this idea and what was it inspired by.4
-
remember that company that ghosted me after I spent 2 hours taking 2 "aptitude" tests for them?
or the EIGHT HOUR challenge I wasted my time on because the guy said I didn't know enough redux, even though they were the ones completely overcomplicating (and frankly bastardizing) its usage? oh also imagine using sagas in 2023... fucking 🤡clowns🤡 get with the program, glad i wasnt hired by you, good luck finding a competant dev
yeah, was good times...1 -
Doing projects on your own from idea to base prototype you can give to users without chance of success is more like fighting with your own then development.
I rewrote application third time and I think (again) that I am on good track to finish this shit. Backend is 50% done. Started doing frontend in react now so wish me luck. -
So I created a desktop app a couple of months ago that relies on IG API. Everything was working perfectly. QA passed and everything was ready for rolling out. Took a
vacation last week, when I came back yesterday it was broken. My backup didn't tried checking what was wrong btw. Turned out IG got strict with its apps on June 1 (sandbox). He waited for me and didn't even bother to try to fix it.
Oh, app will be launched today. Good luck PMs and fuck my backup.4 -
Today is the day when we rip out our old deployment system and get some new blood running through the CI/CD pipelines. Wish me good luck! Please...2

Where do you search for Remote jobs?
Ive been using LinkedIn in the past but this time no luck for a few weeks. Applied only to jobs with easy apply though. Should I start applying to jobs without easy apply as well?
Tried to headhunt recruiters and expand my network but that didn't really help much.
Got a few calls but its either lowball offers or hiring process is a drag.
Anyways I think it's time to start applying in some other platforms.
From your experience, where else do you search for remote roles? Perhaps you could recommend some good western agencies that don't just search for cheap labour?
I appreciate any advice.4 -
we want you to be
- full stack developer (you do everything front end, back end)
- dev ops/SRE (you can sort out the deployment CI/CD pipeline, cloud platform services AWS/GC/Azure whatever)
- architect (you can design the software as well)
all in 1, you gotta be multiple roles/departments
good luck getting this experience on the job (hell in a startup is not for everybody and certainly not for me)
also why the fuck companies who aren’t startups ask for this idk
not sure if i missed any roles/competencies so far , don’t forget you need like >=3 years of experience possibly in every field for entry roles and more for anything higher than that9 -
After years of procrastination and pushing myself. I’ve finally managed to breath life into my app.
It was a journey of 3 years coding it in android launching it to my community. Then almost competing writing the iOS app. Play store taking down the android app for 64bit BS and me not finding time to support both platforms amidst my hectic day job.
Finally scrapped both the codebase and re-wrote everything in flutter.
Phewwwwwww.
Anyways, Feels good man.
Wish me luck 😅
Version 2.0.2 seems like version One now :D6 -
My visceral hate of Spring.Net burns with the force of a thousand suns.
Almost everything it does is done wrong or solved better by other solutions.
Specifying which classes to instantiate from .xml files? Sure why not, compile type safety (the whole reason for using a static programming language) is obviously overrated and dependency based injection is surely impossible!
And for extra bonus points, now our client code must be aware of the internals of the service classes, and all of their references as well, because, encapsulation? Who cares.
Have you made an typo? Good fucking luck finding out from which of the 100 config files we have floating around...
And, because it has baked in AOP and Transactions its woven into the fabric of the project like a tapewom.
Of course this may just be how our "special snowflake" project uses Spring.
What makes it more painful is that I love good DI tools (ninject, castlewindsor, autofac, there are so many...) and we're stuck with this turd because 7 years ago some java devs couldn't be arsed to learn a new library...1 -
WTF YOUTUBE
https://i.imgur.com/wsst8Rr.png
why was this instantly pushed to master without QAs !??!
why the fuck do you cripple the search bar ignoring screen size 100%
yeah good luck with the search bar on big screens
i get it, its googles unifying, but! https://i.imgur.com/rNVeQfP.png
It's done with the wrong rules. If you look at any other google suite product (take inbox for example) the search bar is scaled OVER the content, not placed above as a grouper.

I hope something was just forgotten in the CSS, because this is fucking bad. It doesnt make sense.1 -
Everyone: Keep people safe and work from home!
My power company: We were going to turn off your power for maintenance but now we won't to help people work from home.
Also my power company today : Hope you didn't need your power to work from home. Good luck with that.

Tired of seeing people showing off their bootcamp certification on LinkedIn as if they had just climbed Mount Everest, and as if they were about to enter the most glamorous field of work one could imagine.
OK I went through a bootcamp myself but I certainly knew I was still a baby upon completion of the journey and still consider I have a veeery long way to go today after two years of dev work experience. Also I knew working as a developer probably wouldn’t be as awesome as these bootcamps make it out to be. In fact it’s everything but glamorous when you take into account the stress, the dynamics with coworkers, POs, PMs, shitty management, wacky clients, weird demands, deadlines etc.
Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy being a developer and have more or less been able handle the workload and expectations. But for goodness sake stop drilling into bootcampers’ heads that it’s gonna be amazing and that they’re doing incredible things. Congratulate them for their hard work and then wish them good luck because they’re going to need it. Bootcampers, stay humble. Be prepared for the worst while hoping for the best3 -
Developed a microsite for a temporary campaign. Involves generating 1.5million promo codes on excel. Done... good luck importing it to mysql. Campaign launch is tonight while importing cant be successful unless importing 10K at a time -_-4

not a good luck when putting your changes out there1 -
Recruiter: Hi I have a position I feel you would love! My client wants a graduate developer with a couple of years experience in full stack development, javascript, sql and the whole .Net package.
Me: And this is a graduate position?
Recruiter: yes but I have put some people forward and they haven't had enough experience.
... Good luck to that company trying to find a developer who can do everything and pay them almost nothing. -
Interview: looked like I'm gonna use headless cms and jamstack ecosystem
Actual job: xml server with pike for the backend. Frontend served serverside + vuejs so good luck doing anything reactive without refreshing the page
After complaining I got to work on my tech stack but no signs of jamstack/headless. Even worse experience!2 -
Working with dildos-for-brain people! I asked how to achieve something and if I got an answer it stated: never saw something like that implemented before (It really means that people here just copy/paste shit and use iterative development method until they nab the solution)!!!
Really? I just asked to have nested XML structure, it's been around since early 90'!
I have new weekend project - polish my CV and get the fuck out of here. When it feels like you are smartest in the room and for every question for help people just throw you random answers not related to question at all it is not worth staying there.
Also using outdated XML server CMS that ceased its support, documentation is shoddy and internet never heard of it - only relevant google search leads to the CMS website. Good luck! Good fucking luck!
This shit went overboard so many times and I decided that this is the last time. I have 2 more fucks to give and those are for me! -
Whenever I see someone complaining that a game or something is taking forever to be made, I just want to sit them down and give them the tools to do it and say ¨Hey, you want it to be done? Go ahead and make it yourself¨ and then walk away.

They want to make a project fast, give me an unexperienced frontend dev to guide late in the project, gave design a shit ton of time and cut my hours by 25%. Good luck. I don't even care if the project is late and or if I get fired. I can find another job7

I hate programmatic auto layout. It's such a mess! Simple shit like cells that can easily be defined in a .nib become spaghetti coded messes that violate every good programming practice ever. Want to recreate the same style of cell again? Good luck reverse engineering the hieroglyphics your teammate wrote when creating the layout by hand. Never mind a whole bunch of useless shit is done in code that could easily be defined via runtime attributes through the storyboard. But why learn a new approach? Cause job security. Or because for some reason Interface Builder tools are seen as "too hard" or "not scalable" to use.. fuck me.2
-
I started a quest to learn a new keyboard layout. And of course the twist thing that pops up is dvorak.
Dvorak has a lot of mixed reviews though so after some more research I learned about Colemak.
For the past week I've been practicing a little each day on my computer and I switched my phone to Colemak.
But I'm doing pretty good I think for just a week. Wish me luck dev family.3 -
Started to learn Reinforcement Leaning, from level 0: Atari Pong Game. Stopped and think a bit on the gradient calculation part of the blog.... hmm, I guess it's been almost a year since my Machine Learning basic course. Good thing is old memory eventually came back and everything starts to make sense again.
Wish me luck...

@Flux
I read https://devrant.com/rants/1845851/...
I was going to comment until I realized it was a post from 300 days ago.
Just want to say ask you how it went or give a post mortem. Also Congratulations. I hope you brought a long run way when you started almost a year ago.
Remember starting is 80% of finishing, and carrying through is the other 20%.
Success looks easy when all you see are the success stories. Steve jobs wasn't the most famous marketer, he was the most famous salesman, and what he sold was a dream.
Marketing is a buzzword, and a lot of companies try to use marketing as a replacement for sales people, but nothing really beats a good sales person or team. Thats the secret to marketing: forgo it as much as possible and work on sales and relationships instead. Awareness is nice, but money and sales are better.
This coming from a guy who had six businesses by the time he was twenty six and helped his family to start two other successful businesses.
Apparently I'm good at helping other people make money just not good at helping myself do it.
What I've learned is if you can get 1 customer you can get 10 and if you can get 10 you can get 100. And then keep going.
Good luck.3 -

Was told at work today that I don’t follow directions closely enough and the lack of attention to detail in my work is a problem.
I remember being this way since my first elementary school teacher pointed it out to me. I’ve always been this way. It’s how my brain is wired. No matter how hard I try, I always miss something. Especially when it is a really complex set of tasks. I’ve literally got the results of a cognitive test I took in college documenting and quantifying my working memory deficits.
You think you’ll change that now, after more than four decades of me being like this, with a performance review? Good fucking luck!8 -
Sometimes you don't need to think of an interesting or funny rant because life does it itself!
Several years ago I did my Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics which was not Informatics at all - regret at that time that I had choosen the subject.
After that started working for HP in a business/ marketing role which was quite nice but missing any technics.
So I internally applied for a dev role that was quite purely based on Linux knowledge that I did not have. Seems I convinced with my will to learn something new every day. And I did!
After two years in that role I now have my Linux certificate (CompTia Linux+), did a great job (according to my boss) and I am starting my Master's Degree in pure Informatics next week!
That led me to the most important decision - registering here at devRant. Seems we are colleagues now ;D.
Wish me luck and thank you all!1 -
Well I tried to start an startup a year ago but we had some troubles, but this week a friend of mine who is the guy that I share my idea to create the startup. We met and we are ready to work on that again. Wish me luck guys and if you are starting a startup, too. Good luck 😎 you can do it5

Is it all worth it? We feel its freedom, We feel it's just me and my phone or my PC. Is it? Is it that private? That camera you have on your phone, what if someone is watching you right now? That microphone you have, what if someone is listening to you right now? Those stuffs you Google, Those sites you visit, you're tracked, you're tapped. Ohh Incognito, Good Luck, there's no such thing called Incognito. Is it all worth it? In fact you're getting so much out of it. Is it all worth it? Or Am I just too obsessed? Is this Internet really that free?
It's freedom but you're compelled to use. Its freedom!

I think it involves a great amount of determination and time management skills.
I've learnt to manage my time wisely. I pretty much run my whole life on a bullet journal, it works for me.
I might wanna make a bullet journal app one day so that I can finally be happy with a digital bullet journal without excessive features.
And to all out there working on a side project right now, good luck..!1 -
I think my senior does not really care to what I say. I told him that we need to study the core of spring framework before the mvc part so we can easily understand the source code of our client. And now that we're given a task to create and update new functionality on that given source code, him and our intern having a hard time finishing their task because they don't even know what @Autowired is.
Anyway good luck sir :) -
A guy on YouTube posted in a GraphQL tutorial about his CSS issue. He asked about why a certain background for a website that he is creating only looks good on a phone but not on his desktop. I asked him to put the code on either jsfiddle or codepen but he still put the code in the comments, only the CSS part. I kept telling him to place it on those two sites, eventually he did. I looked at the pen and guess what? The picture is a portrait one... He wants to use CSS to make it look good, I don't know how he is gonna achieve that but good luck. I am done with him, stopped commenting.3

me: Mum, Dad I want to a developer like [my older brother's name]
mum: I don't know what you guys do anyway. just make sure to be the best at it.
dad: Good luck, don't forget to start your own company soon enough. -
My software engineering team is using Kivy for the front-end of our application, and I would like to punch whoever did the documentation for it. There are lots of possibilities with Kivy, but good luck figuring out how to achieve them.

Vite is a black box that can break at any time, I am starting to hate black boxes. Mix that in with flakey pnpm and node (we should all use deno now).
Good luck if something doesn't work in vite.

As i was shitting on toilet I realized something very important. This could be THE answer.
The question: what is the formula for achieving success? I realized this must be THE ultimate answer:
Money + connections + luck >= success
Why?
MONEY:
You must have money to make more money.
CONNECTIONS:
Some average joe can tell his friend Cockty to phone call his friend Dickson who's a good friend with Cumston to message his millionaire friend Asslicker who is gonna help the average joe succeed.
LUCK:
No matter what you do or how hard you work, how many achievements you have or degrees, you can spend 10 million dollars on a project -- and still fail because you're not lucky.
Let's calculate this probability:
have = 1
missing = -1
money = 0
connections = 0
luck = 0
success = 1
money + connections + luck >= success
Case 1 (have everything):
have + have + have >= success
1 + 1 + 1 >= 1
3 >= 1 ✅
Case 2 (no money):
missing + have + have >= success
-1 + 1 + 1 >= 1
1 >= 1 ✅
Case 3 (no connections):
have + missing + have >= success
1 - 1 + 1 >= 1
1 >= 1 ✅
Case 4 (no luck):
have + have + missing >= success
1 + 1 - 1 >= 1
1 >= 1 ✅
Case 5 (no money, no connections):
missing + missing + have >= success
-1 - 1 + 1 >= 1
-1 >= 1 ❌
Case 6 (no money, no luck):
missing + have + missing >= success
-1 + 1 - 1 >= 1
-1 >= 1 ❌
Case 7 (no connections, no luck):
have + missing + missing >= success
1 - 1 - 1 >= 1
-1 >= 1 ❌
Case 8 (no money, no connections, no luck):
missing + missing + missing >= success
-1 - 1 - 1 >= 1
-3 >= 1 ❌
We have: 4 possible outcomes that we want, k=4
Out of total: 8 possible combinations, n=8
Probability of achieving success using this formula is: P(A) = k/n = 4/8= 0.5 * 100% = 50% chance of being successful in this shit life
This is correct in theory. HOWEVER:
Case 1: someone having
- a lot of money
- a lot of connections
- a lot of luck
In practicality is damn near IMPOSSIBLE
Maybe 1 in 100 million people are born like this. That's 100,000,000 people / 8,000,000,000 people = 0.0125 * 100% = 1.25% of people are this blessed and gifted in life. This might be even less so we can ignore this probability as a possible outcome and average it out to realistic average joe daily life.
Therefore giving us a total of 7 combinations, 3 possibilities to succeed in this shit life
So: k/n = 3/7 = 0.4285 * 100% = 42.85% chance to be successful in this shit life
Mathematically proven how life is pure trash
Funny enough we can round it to 42%. And 42 is the answer to life, universe and everything in existence4 -
Just pushed the last commit about a work they asked me in the last job interview. Please wish me good luck!2

Can someone please explain the benefits of this in Kotlin:
var x = if(a !=b) {
z
}else{
y
}
Even for a conditions with one line body it looks bad in reading and getting a clue of what does this do.
I mean whats wrong with:
var x: MyObject
if(a!=b){
x = y
}else{
x = z
}
Even in switch cases (or as kotlin calls: when) True one return source, but now good luck finding the last line that is the actual returned value ...15 -
So I'm getting a new job in a legal software company and I wanted to ask your opinion on computers. I know many are very biased towards OSX and windows and prefer linux but I'm trying my luck lmao.
I'm currently on a late 2012 macbook pro and its starting to fizzle out on me.
Not a bit fan of the new macbooks because of dongles and no direct HDMI. I was wondering if the surface laptop 2 was any good compared? All the reviews online are basically paid to praise it and the reviews on reddit are polarized. I prefer laptops that are thin and in aluminum.12 -
The CORS implementation has made the web overall less secure. It insists on the 99% pain in the ass solution rather than the 98% easy to use solution. So what happens? People work *around* it a lot, and that degrades web security overall.
Had *.mydomain been available as a header value, it would have been fine. Update your CORS headers? Good luck when your users' browsers have a cached copies of the old headers. Instant CORS violations.4 -
I feel bad for bootcampers. Their schools tell them to apply for a job even if they don’t have all the qualifications because they will learn on the job. That’s fine if you’re applying for an upgrade in the same career path. But when you’re changing careers, a lot of jobs don’t necessarily have time to invest in you like that.
I do have respect for those who DM me on Slack and ask if the job is open to new bootcamp grads. At least they are taking the initiative to ask and not sulking that they’re not good enough.
I tell them “this role requires experience in x. If you have that, then apply” because I don’t actually know they’re not qualified.
I was like them before. It’s hard to get the first job and sometimes it’s a lot of luck. But the first job will make getting the next one easier.
At least they’re not recruiters trying to convince me to pay them to fill the role.1 -
!rant Why is it that when you're young and don't know anything about computers you never get errors but as soon as you learn how to really use a computer everything starts showing "you broke something, good luck fixing it."
This is after getting the error message "an error occurred somewhere."1 -
Alright folks it’s the first, you know what that means. No Nut November has officially started. Make sure to read the rules properly. I have a few passes already from earlier this year and bc I was born in November, but I don’t plan to use them. Good luck.4

Can't help but feel a bit guilty because I have other stuff I should probably be attending to, but I think my site could use a good update; it's been (I believe) a year, and I had a few ideas on ways to improve the look and effectiveness of it.
I have other projects I must attend to as well if I plan on making any real money, but I think I deserve to spoil myself bit by bit over the next couple of days. I want to make things more programmatic for the sake of easier updates in the future and to show off to potential employers a bit more.
Wish me luck guys😀 -
Happy new year guys and gal. Been a great year and hope next year would be bring good luck and prosperity to all dev rant community here.

Was asked today what type of service ticket was needed for a domain level whitelist request.. gave them the answer, and they tell me, “oh I don’t think I want to do that, I’ll just create a generic ticket and go from there.”
Why ask if you are going to do it your own way anyways..
This happens to often in all parts of IT. Someone consults you, tells you your suggestion sounds difficult, then try’s to take a short cut..
Good luck to them.. so glad it’s Friday! ✌️3 -
Ordered something techy from the US and A, because it looked like what I wanted, smelled like what I wanted, and I thought it'll taste like what I wanted.
It arrived today and ooooohhh boy was I wrong.
It's kind of like if you won a car.
But you have no drivers license.
And it is so futuristic, it runs on unicorn piss.
Good luck getting that anywhere.
Another tech-brick on the wall.
Well i could write some tech publications to give them a chance to cover it in depth first, since everyone else will be gaged by NDAS until like q2 2019.
Naaaa, I probably wouldn't even respond to myself if I wrote.
"Nice try kiddo, did hell freeze over?"rant someone could get sued someone could loose a job someone fucked up tech brick brick someone fucked up big time haha to new to be supported i didn't sign any nda did hell freeze over? fuck2 -
Teamlead: Can you integrate feature X to project Y? The dev maintaining that project has lots of work and does not know how to do it, and we need to deliver it next week.
Me: Sure, I know that feature should not take long.
BIG MISTAKE!
For 2 hours now I'm trying to get that fucking project to run... errors, faulty configuration, tons of missing stuff in the project environment.
The list of errors grows with every step I get further. And I have not even started with the feature I should work on.
So good luck next week, my dear colleague, I'm not the one finishing your tasks from the past few months, I'm just fixing the stuff I actually need to finish my task. -
When you've been ignoring the low battery light on your mouse for a few weeks, finally it dies while you're working and it's really frustrating to have to either go find batteries (good luck) or fish that wired mouse out of the bin of spare things.
To top it all off, it's only a 3-button mouse and I can't get used to going back. (No pun intended lol)6 -
I hate it, when symfony stops the execution without any hint if you configure a dependency-injection with a non-existing class or a call on a function that does not exist.
The only reliable debugging is supported for di configuration of constructors.
It feels like, "oh. You wanna call a function or give us the classname via dependency-injection? Good luck yankee!! Better know your shit xD" -
Yanno, a popup that states "failure. No specific error was returned with this API call" is about as useful as "Error code: NOPE. Good luck fuckers!"
This occured after hitting the delete button for an MX record on a host that I'm migrating away from. -

Wanted to download Ballance (amazing game btw) to my IBM ThinkPad running XP. Wi-Fi download speed in SeaMonkey (the only modern browser for XP) was super slow, obviously, so I just opened my MacBook running Ventura, downloaded the game, and then SEAMLESSLY connected to my ThinkPad. Yes, to Windows XP. Out of the box. Good luck doing it on Linux. If that isn't convenience, I don't know what is.10

That despising moment when your friend threatens to hack your facebook / gmail account. Ya, like that's just a piece of cake. Good luck with that.1

So I am a fresher and have worked a lot in coding and good at full stack and reactjs.
This situation of due to covid got me into high pressure and
Rn I took a job in non department that too in sales.
I really need a job/ internship in technical so that my career gets secure.
Just 4 days back I was super confident and excited about upcoming life.. and today
Anyways.. I think this is gonna bring the best out of me and am gonna proove that am super talented and can do anything I want including getting a good job in this market :))
Wish me luck and ofcc
I would be greatful if I get wise advice on the same <3 -
I can't wait for my studies to be over 😡
I have to upload a research project which is due in a few days and there is simply no way for me to do so. My prof is "temporary not available" so now good luck -
Honestly I've had good luck, every single boss I've ever had has been great up until the most recent project manager (not people manager) at my latest consultant gig.
Guy was 60+, had the mindset that NOTHING can get done without a meeting, and that your ass in a seat is the most important metric of true productivity.
Coming from a mostly remote background with 50% travel, this was a huge pain in the neck to deal with for the last 2 months.
Luckily he's gone now (no one liked him...who would have thought). -
So... I'm assigned to do a new development, something related to integrate a Call Center service to our main app.
I have not a single clue on how to begin, at what to look, what doc to read (the service doesn't offer a good one), just trying thing and hope for some luck.
This sound familiar to you also or it's just me?
These moments make me think twice if my knowledge can handle and this scares me!
Also, it's kinda urgent and very important so... no stress!2 -
So I'm free again. Started a new job in November and then last week they said it wasn't working out. They like me but need someone "more senior". Good luck finding someone more senior who is willing to work on jps and glassfish 2 in 20204
-
So for one of my uni courses we're writing arm assembly. That's pretty cool. What's not cool is the shit textbook written by the instructor, the asshat elitists on every single fucking help thread, and the fucking garbage documentation.
But hey, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I mean, after all, you should need to spend 5+ hours to discover where the fuck you should place a label for a god damn binary constant. Oh, and once you've finally got code that'll link, good fuckin luck getting it to load the address of that constant in a register.
At least I have a good explanation on why those guys on the forums are such fucking dicks: Stockholm Syndrome. -
So what are everyone's predictions for Bitcoin on the 31st. Rise or fall? Maybe a bit of both? Recovery times? Impact on other cryptocurrencies?
I'm expecting to see some short lived, possibly huge drops, across the board, followed by it shooting back up within a week. Interesting time though.
Hope you're all are able to cash in, if there's anything to cash in on.
Good luck!2 -
Anyone herr tried API Platform?
I know I know. Generic ass name but that is what the framework is called.
Its in php, it contains a lot of goodies from(try and guess...no?? Ok I'll tell ya) the Symfony platform(go figure right) so if you are familiar with Laravel or well....Symfony then I guess that you will be good to go. I ain't...so fuck me because I only know Laravel.
Either way the concepts are very simple. Configs is donde almost entirely with YAML, i dunno how to feel about that, not used at writing routes on yaml, but the framework is thus far quite powerful. About to test jwt auth so wish me luck!4 -
Some people think building a clone of tinder takes a weekend. Good luck with that dumpster fire of an app5

I: Sure i can code this event calendar. We have two options. Adjust design and use plugin like fullcalendar. I can adjust the look pretty fast and cheap. Second option is code this from scratch. It will look and act exactly the same as design but will be bit expensive. You know, whole javascript, CSS, HTML and so. Basicaly like entire new calendar plugin or so.
He: Client already saw the design and we do not have high budget.
I: Ok, no problem, let's use fullcalendar.
He: Designer promised to him to be exactly like design.
I: Without asking developer for solution in available price range and time frame?
He: Hm...
I: Good luck.

It's just funny.1 -
Why are USB passkeys so expensive? I was under the impression that you 1) create a key pair, upload the public key to your google account and 2) store the private key on an old USB drive. But nooo, then you could copy the key I guess. Good luck convincing the average Joe to spend more than $10 on a fido/yubi/whatever key...3

Just started playing stardew valley, and the opening scene strikingly represents my life. Just like the main character, I'm going out into my own metaphorical country and blazing my own path, away from my bosses, who knows what will happen, but if anything goes wrong I have my stocks and a good background, wish me luck
Fuck NVM, I wish, my life is too important, fuck.2 -
No one gives a shit about the fact i have computer science degree. No employer has asked me. Nobody cares. I can't get hired anywhere and i was promised to surely find a job if i have a degree. 6 years of nerve wrecking of my fucking life for a degree wasted in fire. I was SCAMMED. "Software engineering" universities are a fucking SCAM. SCAMMMMM. Fuck you. I'll make my own course and scam desperate people the same way universities do it. The same way andrew tate does it. Fuck you.
In life i learned that you will be successful ONLY IF:
- you have luck
- you're a wealthy millionaire
- you have connections
And you will FAIL IF:
- you try to do good and be fair
Fuck you11 -
Watching a gameshow Press Your Luck

I'm wondering though isn't the optimal strategy just to focus on a single section, like the bottom, and just press the button the moment it lands a good tile in that smaller area?4 -
Realtors are fucking goons.You find something online to rent. You call them to have a look around. Nah you need to fill out the online form for that. Same person responds in an Email: "You need to contact the current tenant under xxxxx for a visit" The online ad and that would be atleast 5k. Good luck ever making that back with someone who moves again in like 8 months. Thank god I dont have any real estate! Can't afford it anyways.1

I love the flexibility and power you get with Wordpress, WooCommerce and its entire plugin ecosystem...
BUT FUCK ME! PHP IS SHIT!!
It's like writing code by hand with pen and paper, putting it through an OCR and then compiling it. Sure, it might work if you're lucky and maybe even look cool, but good luck trying to develop a sulution with any sort of speed!3 -
Imagine you are in a small BPO company and your client work hours is 2pm - 10pm. Then your BPO manager will set up a 1 hour meeting at 8am 🤣 so basically your personal time will be used for that meeting.
Good luck to your body clock 😂2 -
It was the minor in our college... i and my partner had not complete it till 1 day before the day of submission... Infact the minor file we submitted ... was the copy of somone others...it was due to lack of time we were not able to finish with it .... It was just our good luck that the external didn't open the file and checked it ... or it would have impacted our score for the project

I'm starting to reach the edge, the fucking company is refusing to hire more people because of "budget concerns", I am tired of doing all of the heavy lifting. Oh well it was a good run, have an interview on Friday and I'm so burned out I don't even feel like studying....wish me luck...1

Ok, there is one good thing. I've reached 333 +1's. Thank you all guys!
Sooo... a few days ago my Power supply from my home pc died. It was a good one, but I don't know.. it just burned nearly..
Today I've received a new one.
Plugged everything in. PC runs - or not?? WTF! Windows (yeah, at home still Windows ) isn't booting anymore. Hardware changes detected. I think, through the broken Power supply something got damaged.. shit.. and know what - don't have any Backup. Shit. At least some important data is on another hdd, which hopefully is fine. Now I'm trying to rescue the data with another hdd installing a fresh Windows.
Whish me luck!
PS: No, the power supply wasn't from Samsung, even when it exploded nearly :P1 -
Programming assembly in KEIL is complete shit. Base project doesn't assemble, devices need specific drivers, and good luck gitignoring when there's hundreds of files regenerated on build.
