Today my classmate came up to me and said he was a hacker.
I told him to prove it, and guess what? HE ACTUALLY HACKED GOOGLE!
It was amazing! He impressed so many kids in the class with his skills of pressing F12! How impressive is that?
He even wore a black hoodie and can spell his name in binary code. Not to mention, he changed google doc's page color to black and the font to green as he typed his essay.
I need to be careful... This 1337 h4x0r is really scary.

Met a guy in the gym, he asked me to make him an online shop for supplements.
I quickly made a reactive, angular based shop with an admin page.
He paid, I put my name as the creator, it was all good...
...then he removed all legal products and added tons of anabolic steroids for horses in little jars (yes, he even added pro level photos).
I received a call from the police and had to prove that I don't manage his content.14 -
My JavaScript professor once thought my work was "too good" and decided to pull me aside, in front of the class, to practically accuse me of cheating. I had to meet her in her office after hours and talk to pretty much prove it. Once she realized I didn't cheat she was fakey nice the rest of the semester. God forbid a girl be decent at JavaScript without "cheating". 🙄21

Google: "Please prove you're a human."
Me: "Hello Google, I'm human!"
Google: "Prove you're a human..."
Me: *Stabbing my finger and dripping blood on the computer*
Google "Prove you're a human!!"
Me: *Crying, laughing, expressing feelings*
Google: "Prove you're a human I said!!!"
Me: "4527"
Google:" Thank you."4 -
I FUCKING HATE how I always have to prove my abilities twice to everyone just because I sit in a wheelchair!!!
I mean if the people on the street treat me like a child it's hard enough... they might just be afraid of the unknown or simply stupid... but at the office?
You know what I do for a living... What on earth would make you think you have to treat me as if I have some kind of cognitive disability as well?
I am going to roll/drive over the next guy who does something like that!!!
Sorry for the non dev rant but this had to get out48 -
Ranted about him before but this just came to my mind again.
The fucking windows (to the max) fanboy I had to deal with for too long.
Every time I mentioned something about what programming language to use in a project he was NOT part of:
"I know it's none of my business, BUT I think you should use .net"
(All backend JavaScript and php guys).
Every time I mentioned something about what server system to use:
"I know it's none of my business but I think you should use Windows server"
(All Linux guys)
Every time I'd say something positive about Linux he'd search as long as needed to prove that that was also a windows thing (didn't even come close sometimes)
Every time I told the devs there about a windows security issue (as in "guys they found this thing, install the next update to stay safe :)" - "ahhh will do, thanks for letting know man!") he'd search as long as needed to prove that Linux also had had security issues like that.
(Okay?!? I know?!? I'm just trying to notify people so their systems stay secure and they're genuinely happy with that so STFU)
MOTHERFUCKER.17 -
Hey Mm...Morty. What are you doing?
Oh gee Rick, I’m just...you know...using Linux and telling the internet how that makes me better than them.
Morty, you rr...realize that it...it...doesn’t matter what OS you use Morty. Y...y...you’re still a piece of shit Morty. I can prove it...burp...mathematically Morty. In the grand scheme of the universe...y...y...you are a bubble sort algorithm surrounded by quick sorts Morty.
Oh gee Rick.14 -
If the Firefox Quantum is really good then you don't need to say:
"Chrome will become obsolete"
"I hope Chrome dies"
"Chrome's dead, long live Firefox"
to prove that it's a great browser. Fanboys always ruins nice experiences.14 -
To everyone that writes their rants and comments as code like
Console.writeline("something something")
Stop, get some help.
You don't need to prove that you know how to print a string okay ?16 -
Basic math class for devvys
Lemme prove that 2 = 1
a = b
a^2 = ab
a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2
(a + b) (a - b) = b (a - b)
a + b = b
b + b = b
2b = b
2 = 1

There comes a moment in every coders life where he must prove his programming chops by solving an arbitrary problem for one of their random relatives. If they fail, they have brought shame to their family name. But if they succeed, there is no greater glory.
Random Uncle: "Hey my wifi isn't working. Can you fix it?"
Me: Restarts laptop. Wifi works.
Uncle: "Wow nice job!"
Indeed. There is no greater glory.3 -
Guys, my unfortunately daily rant of my pm
I was told to create a docker env for our team. Good. Document the process so everyone can know what to do. Good.
My PM follows what he wants to instead of step by step and changes whatever he wants to.
I am asked for help because he doesnt know. No prob.
Me: "Do this, do this and.."
PM: "that doesnt matter, trust me, I could change it and.."
Me: "...and it wont work"
PM: "I know suff too, check" *does his changes aaaaaand doesnt work*
* awkward staring*
That happened a while ago.
This week, he crashed his git repo because he was doing things in docker team (including him) decided not to.
Took me more enough time explaining him "you are not supposed to do that in the container" funny fact he wanted to prove that his way was right and even if he did my way it would crash.
Sooooo he did my way just to prove how wrong I was. Everything worked flawlessly. Rage-still-awkward staring.
Plus the "aww that's weird. I dont know how this happened" -
So I was applying for a research position in linguistic department, and had the interview today.
Prof: So you know excel right
Me: (show a project to him to prove I at least know csv file)
Prof: Ok so you know excel.
Me: Yeah kinda.
Prof: Ok that's good. Cuz right now we are using amazon Turk, and the data they returned, which are excel files, are not really the way we want it.
Me: Ok sounds like a parser can fix it......
Prof: Yeah.... the students in the lab are doing it manually now
(Dead silence)
Prof: Ok move onto next matter7 -
Teacher: hey, your good with computer programming, right?
(Thinking I finally have a chance to prove myself programming wise.)
Me: yeah, Sure
(Trying not to blow my own trumpet)
Teacher: great, can you fix this word document for me?

Ah, every time I am on VPN, on every single website I have to prove that I am not a robot.
Just because I am using a VPN service to protect my information, that does not mean I am about to fuck the website up or DDoS the shit out of you. I wish the CDN providers would understand that and make our life easier.
I am seriously tired of completing the Google verification. Select the vehicle, bike, sign post, dick, vagina, Mia Khalifa. FUCK OFF11 -
My brother destroyed his laptop in rage, my father destroyed his pc in an accident..
I created an aesthetic one, just to prove my family how destruction and creation go in parallel.
I create for creation's sake... Rant of my life.17 -
I'm talking with this teenager that believes himself an engineer because he built a PC.
He is vehement in telling me that Linux came out in 2007 and it was Valve who developed it for Steam!
They he Googled it to prove me wrong and then... never spoke to me again 😂
I'm an Arch user dude! That's like, just one level under Linus Torvalds!13 -
My computer science teacher is very sly: while you are working he stands right behind you for some time, so you start writing good code, functions for everything, perfect indentation... But you don't know if he is still behind you, and you're not brave enough to look back, so you write good code for the rest of the lesson.
What a good prof8 -
Sometimes I feel like people here bitch about Windows and Microsoft when half of their issues aren't even Windows/Microsoft's fault. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
There's no way to prove it, but it's basically someone who has their mind made up that Windows is shit, therefore it points out every single thing, especially the trivial shit, that's wrong.
(I'm the same way with iOS/MacOS lol)11 -
I just finished setting up an instance of searx.me for the public to use.
You are free to use it at https://search.privacy-cloud.me
I can't prove it but I've disabled logging with searx and ip logging in the nginx access logs (catching ddos's another way). If you don't find that enough proof then I suggest you don't use it :)
Let's go to sleep now.13 -
I had a manager who was a complete incompetent idiot (other than a fucking backstabber). He left the company ~3 weeks ago, yet I believe it would take 5 years to get rid of his legacy.
Today I discovered that one of his "genius ideas" led to the loss of months of data. This is already bad, but it's even more upsetting given that the records that have been lost are exactly the ones I needed to prove the validity of my project.
That fucking man keeps fucking with me even when he's not here, YOU DAMN ASSHOLE!!6 -
I hate when someone compares two languages depending on which one gives a "Hello world" with less lines of code.6
-
My family didn't support me. In fact, my own father told me I'd never learn to code. I do many things out of pure spite, one of them: pursue a master's degree in computer science to prove an old man wrong.
On my third semester of my bachelor's I was already a better developer than he will ever be 🙄3 -

Today I nearly killed my new boss, he picked the really wrong day to accuse me of something I did'nt do and could prove... You wouldn't like me when I'm angry cause I back up my arguments and would willingly quit gladly for a better job.9

Best advice for dev job hunting is work on your soft skills. Don't be a fucking hero, prove your teamwork ability.
Remember all the rules of all religions and social communities can be summed up in one line: "Don't be a dick!"1 -
I think I've got a working searx instance which I'd open up for the public.
NOTE: I cannot prove that I don't store anything because for that you'd need root access to the server which I won't give obviously. If you're not comfortable with that, just don't uses it.
I still have to do something for ip address logging anonymising or stripping, though. (nginx + CSF provided enough abuse prevention).
Tips on that?29 -
Devrant feature: It would be cool that when you wanna write a comment, it doesn't open a new page, but a textarea appears at the bottom, so I can re-read the other comments and the rant without going back.19

I once observed one guy and he just... lived. Without owing anybody and himself anything. With nothing to achieve and nothing to prove. Without any kind of guilt when he chose just to stay in bed and do nothing or when he couldn’t finish a readme in more than three months.
He was just living, creating digital things he kinda liked. Without seeking for approval. Without making big plans. Like a psychopath.6 -
I think I am the only person on the universe that doesn't like stickers on laptops.

The day I got my first interview, my dad kept fighting over the phone with me. He thought I was out with my girlfriend having fun. He told me no way anyone would waste their time interviewing me, let alone hire me.. Boy did I prove him wrong!1

I hate when manager wants an Android app supportable all the way to GinerBread .FUCK YOU ASSHOLE how about I tell you to work 24/7 .PM Shitholes doesn't know shit about coding and make some unrealistic promises and when things don't work this bastards are all over your ass and want you to fix things . How about asking a developer before making such unrealistic promises . Let me tell you PM are the most useless kind of people's in the world who has failed to prove their significance in the company. Fuck you....PMs9

Just came across this quote...
"The worst thing you can do for your organization is prove how smart you are."
Liked it and thought I'd share it to all the devs out there.4 -
When starting a project at work:
My name everywhere. Every file, every change-list I proudly put my name to prove my skills.
Program goes for validation:
Thousands of bugs.
Realize that I've written shit code. Slowly removing my names from all over the code. -
Why is every fucking job posting an “urgent opening”. HR retards in my country just throw “urgent” on the description almost out of habit because in their microscopic brains they believe it improves their chances of getting motivated candidates or some shit like that.
All it fucking does is prove to me that you are incompetent at scheduling recruitment.5 -
Job Interview for a CTO role for a premium employer, a big law firm.
All is going well, I am telling them about my years of experience doing complex software integrations in business environments. Talking CRM/ERP, project management and development with external service providers. I tell them I want a salary of 100k and they nod in silence.
Then out of the blue one of the three stakeholders/managers leans over for a final question:
"Soo, we have this really big IT problem and if you would happen to know a solution to it, you would really prove your worth: I have these 10k+ E-Mails in my Outlook folder which doubles as an archive and Outlook keeps getting slower all the time. What can we do?"6 -

I found out last week that I was passed up for a promotion not because I didn't deserve it but because I got one last year.
My manager asked to have me promoted. People on other teams wanted me promoted. HR did not.
I wasn't mad about it at the time but the more that I think about it the more it's getting me down. I've been pushing myself trying to prove that I would be good for the position and now I have lost all motivation and I hate it. I like where I am at and I like what I do but this has really killed it for me. I'm struggling to get anything done now.6 -
Already wrote about wk92 but i have to add:
STOP MAKING ME ATTEND COURSES SO I AM EVEN ALLOWED TO TAKE EXAMS.
Like what the hell. You know when it comes to networking i'm doing okayish, coding straight A and then there is maths, let's not talk about it. BUT FFS I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE 2 OF MY CODING EXAMS THIS SEMESTER CUS I DIDN'T VISIT 2-3 EVENTS OF IT.
I am a coder. I aspire being a coder. I study software development. I just need to prove myself and some dudes can do it. Let me do my thing.
Btw, there weren't any mandatory events for maths. Of course. Why should there be. Yeah okay7 -
I think I should start mentioning my devrant id in my resume.
Just a thought, my points will prove that atleast I have good sense of humor :D2 -
After years around devs of all levels of expertise I have found the following to be true mostly of junior developers.
Junior devs seem to like to pick out a single (or few) idiosyncrasies of a language/framework and then call it shitty overall.
While senior devs have seen the small idiosyncrasies of many languages/frameworks and know that none of them are perfect and those quirks come with the territory.
It may also have something to do with senior devs having less to prove and therefore not wasting their time of such useless language debates....
ROUND 1: FIGHT!2 -
The hell, why'd I write an add-on for a system I don't know as well while I could just implement a PHP version easily!?
Even if it is just to fucking prove that this can easily be done in PHP!5 -
Hmm. when you prove to be more knowledgable than the programmer that was pulled in, to interview you and he starts to go totally defensive and return spiteful responses
( like, what does a rookie like you know? i bet you never had an actual job )
when you calmly asks if any standard like PSR-2 is expected, if there are any preferred frameworks and what version control is used...
well, that went well..
Didn't get that internship..6 -
Why doesn't spoj tell you about the username format or its availability before submitting the form! 😑 Had to again and again prove ,that I am not a robot, because of this !! Too many times.
And then this (the image) 🤣4 -
Is this some properly fucked up interpretation of GDPR or what??!
We must capture your personal information, for no reason other than to prove we're not abusing your personal information??2 -
Ok, a few days ago I recommended contabo.com as a good and cheap VPS, because our company uses it and it is blazingly fast. BUT! I am definitely NOT doing this!
"False or fraudulent orders are commonplace on the Internet. We have to take measures to prevent such false or fraudulent orders. Our system has identified your order as a possible false order. We must now prove your order as a valid order, otherwise we cannot provide you with the services you bought. We need your help with this. Please send us a copy of your passport or national identity card or something similar which corresponds to the data you have provided to us. Alternatively, you can send us your telephone or electricity bill if it contains your address. The address must match the address you provided on our homepage. It is sufficient if you simply take a photo of the document. The only purpose of this is to prove your order as authentic. This is why it does not matter which of the mentioned documents you send us and it does not matter if you make a scan or take a photo. A scammer could not provide any of these documents, this means one document is already enough to prove that your order is authentic and valid."14 -
This scene is an 8-year-old.
My friend(F) got his first mobile. First featured mobile.
Maximum smartness in that mobile was a snake game and Bluetooth.
So I decided to prank him.
M: Bro do you know this particular model need a network to use Bluetooth?
F: I am not stupid to believe you.
M: I can prove that.
F: K prove me, I will give you treat.
M: ok, turn on your Bluetooth paired it with my Bluetooth.
F: Ok
*start sending him the movie. We were on the train, a train was about to enter the tunnel*
M: When the train will enter a tunnel, We will lose network and sending will fail.
F: ok let's see.
*when a train enters in a tunnel, we shift light to black in meantime for 3-4 sec our eyes feel blindness. so I closed eyes before entering a tunnel and once train enter in the tunnel immediately restart Bluetooth *
M: look sending failed
F: Seriously man, I didn't know that.
M: It's ok bro next time inform me before buying any electronics.
F: sure
M: my treat?
F: Yup
*for next few days, he was thinking that Bluetooth need a network to send files until whole group laugh on him*4 -
My CEO uncle: "anyone can program."
A quote from when we were discussing strategy for my sit down with the CEO of a company I was applying at (FYI, his advice was to research the company, be familiar with their long term strategies and such). I get that there's no need to prove my technical prowess to a business exec, but it isn't because "anyone can program."
I mean, sure, in a philosophical sense, anybody has the capacity to learn. But developers aren't a fungible asset. Treating them as such leads to ruin.3 -
So I just decided I'd hotspot my phone to my laptop (as I have no WiFi) and stream a film I've wanted to watch for a while.
Turns out my shite ass mobile provider wants credit card details to prove I'm over 18.
I'm sorry, what?
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? YOU NOSY OVER CONTROLLING SHIT STAINS! THAT IS A PARENT'S JOB, NOT YOURS.
fucking hell. What is wrong with this fucking race?
Oh, and I can't torrent it because that's blocked too.7 -
I'm pretty sure that the technical tests for FAANG are just to prove that you'll bust your ass doing trivial bullshit for them / and that you're a sucker -- instead of actual meaningful skill checks. Is this guy a total sucker who will drink our Koolaid when it's time? Are they wearing Nike? Yes. This is going to be a good investment.
I was down and out once and got a job a Micheal's Art and Crafts store. The application was clearly a mindfuck test. It asked, "If your boss was stealing - would you report them?" BTW - the answer is "No." You only report people below you. I answered in the way I knew the computer wanted me to - and I got the job. Same shit.
Are you subordinate? You're hired.2 -

I get angry every fucking time when I see such method signature:
method(int, int, int, string, string, string, string)
Sounds scary, doesn't it?
Nah. That's the reason our IDEs are so complex. So, I change this and put proper data value/struct class instead, just to make this much readable and understandable for everyone.
And, every time there is a fella that asks this utterly stupid question:
What about performance impact?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa fuckyutitititiigig
And. I. Have. To. Run. Performance. Tests.
Because noone understands performance and computers so I have to prove there is nothing to worry about.
I know when I will go somewhere else I will have to again prove some fuckwit that web applications are so complex already, so adding a new data structure doesn't impact its performance.12 -
Find out this week if the internship I've been doing will be turned in to a permanent position... Tanking myself! Doing some work this weekend to make sure I've done the best I can do prove myself.2

Call centre manager was made VP of my tech company. Is now directing the programming department.
Yesterday she spent 30 minutes looking through Excel files in an attempt to prove me wrong. Literally found nothing, with 3 other people in the meeting.
Repeatedly told everyone she was "not crazy" in her failed attempt to throw me under the bus.
I love coding, but these human interactions are going to give me a heart attack.3 -

Idiots. Just... Fucking Idiots.
Junior Frontend dev got a feature to implement. Decided to add a field to a set of mongo collections. I'm the responsible adult for those collections. Talked to the junior - told it, "don't do that, you will lose the data you are adding later". Junior says "will not happen", and goes on to try and prove It is "Right". Problem? Junior is an Idiot. did not trigger the data loss scenario. So... Junior got his TL to talk to the RND manager. And those Idiots Decided that the implementation will go forward as is.
Data loss will happen. QA will not find it. Only the client will experience the data loss, and complain....4 -

I had my first ever dev interview yesterday, at a local cybersec startup(FullStack Python position)
I think it went smooth, they said if we continue the process they would give me a small dev task to complete to prove my abilities, and asked how much time of notice to give my current employers before leaving.
I can't wait to leave 4 years of sysadmin and finally move on to be a (professional) developer! 🤞3 -
Simply having a university degree is not a reasob for a bigger salary comapred to a non degree. Its just a school where you learn some of the stuff you need on the job. Therefore if you prove that you know the same it is the same. Same work same salary.17

Just had a talk with my manager who wanted to know why I removed a feature from an application we had. This removal had been discussed WITH THE MANAGER several months prior, but apparently they hadn't written a little note or anything down about it.
I told them we had discussed it earlier. They didn't believe me. They checked the project technical specifications that said it _should still be there_. I told them we talked about it previously. They told me to prove it, so I go looking through the commit history.
Lo and behold:
- Commit <hash> authored 4 months ago.
- Update to specifications, asked for by <manager>

My mom (a single mother who had to feed 4 kids) feed me, let me stay in her house (at least until I was 21) and let me use the motorcycle.
Instead of running away and giving up her children to child institution (because that's probably what I will do being a selfish person that I am)
If that's not support, I don't know what that is anymore.
It might not be much but at least it gave me the time to grew up and be independent to pursue my dream of working in IT.
Her strength and toughness facing the hard life is also the main inspiration for me to keep going, to prove that I can do whatever I want if I put enough effort on it.1 -

I built a basic MVP for a client as a proof of concept for his startup. It was a quick thing just to prove a point do I rattled it out in procedural php.
Sadly it was successful and has somewhat taken off. It’s also grown arms and legs.
It works. The user will never know, but the code is SHIT. I never thought it would still be here.
I’m want to re-write it now in laravel.

Question for all senior developers / lead developers / higher ups out there.
If you were looking for a job, and this company that you applied for which specifically stated that they are looking for a senior developer on the job listing page, asks you to be a junior developer for a few months to prove yourself, would you still be interested in working for that company?22 -

So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -
This was a long time ago, when I was an 18 year old junior dev in my first job and still studying at college part of the time.
The lead programmer saying things like “we [meaning the experienced devs] are alright if this project goes wrong but you need to prove that you can deliver because you could be out of a job”.
Thanks. Mofo set me right up for lasting confidence issues.
Less than two years later I was killing it when the language they used became object oriented. That asshole couldn’t understand any of the concepts.
That feeing of being out of my depth has lingered though.2 -
Friday wisdom:
Test's cannot prove absence of bugs. Tests can demonstrate the presence of features though.
P.S. I didn't came up with that -

Am I the only one who has to deal with an annoying coworker who has the urge to take every conversation into an argument to prove himself smarter than everyone in the team? A person who has to contradict every time with rest of the people just to prove himself smarter and different.
Gets so annoying sometimes that I stop answering him right away.
To add to this he is the person from our dev team who has to prove that he codes the fastest and want to get it deployed ASAP. Does not follows best practices and disregards and design patterns. Would argue for hours on his code with the peer reviewer.
Every one hates him for this and he things he is the dev rockstar2 -

I didn't really plan to study computer science, it just kinda happened. So when a few years into school my GPA was low my mom concluded it wasn't right for me.
Thing is, I knew I was good at programming and problem solving and so did my classmates. I even helped people who the school system said were smarter than I was.
So now I am constantly doing projects and freelancing with hopes that I'll prove myself to her.

Got this in Slack from the owner of the firm I work for...
I mean, you already pay me half of the average salary I should be making, but yeah, let me get right on that...
To be fair, I work with this guy because he is a really good guy to work for, is very hands-off (no micro-managing), doesn't expect me to work on the clock or any overtime and lets me make all the calls with our directions in development. Plus he pays me all he can afford, so it's not like he's trying to screw me (he shares the books with me to prove it).
But still, the dude has to realize you get what you pay for. You don't go to McDonalds if you want a gourmet burger...2 -

How do you prove yourself?
I'm an iOS developer and I've been developing apps for a year or two now and I don't see anything hard in it I just think it's knowing how to wire things up and avoid common bugs I've also worked on a couple of complex apps and the idea is just the same.
I want to know if I really want to prove myself well (to myself) how can I do that and how can I challenge myself more to improve.
Ps: I'm by no way an expert and I know I've got a big road ahead of me but I just want advise to improve more in the right direction5 -
Since I already achieved my dream of being employed as a mobile app dev, I'm into creating music now to prove myself I can achieve something with this too. But you know, I'm kinda lost what to do. Like how I was when I started programming 😂
Maybe one day I can combine both skills into something interesting.9 -
I never understood or will understand my mother or positive energy that resides in her, so I'm going through a little tough time here, broke and unemployed and she just challenged me to shave off my 'stach and beard and something good will happen in my life, so I did just to prove her wrong6

I finally made my first production-level bugfix at my new job! 😄 After weeks of training and then being assigned a live bug, I resolved it quickly & elegantly, which helps prove my worth to the team.
Man, it's so gratifying to be making contributions that are going to affect real devices that actual people are using. It seems being a dev with a sense of purpose is nearly as important as enjoying what you do. ☺️ -
Definitely, the fifth episode of Mr Robot is far better than the others 4, especially the last part, very exciting.2

!dev Job hunting is so exhausting. Nowadays it's not enough to have two degrees and some certificates. No, you have to 'prove' your worth by also showing really complex, enterprise-level projects you made on GitHub. Yes, why don't you make it more difficult to find a job. lol3

I always jump into discussions and try to prove that my hypothesis is right. And then some one proves that I am wrong. Thats how I learn.

Any former freelancers who decided to move to traditional employment?
I have been doing freelance since I finished University. 8 years now. I really liked the flexibility and opportunity to work on different projects and people, but my enthusiasm is wearing thin. I'm currently updating my cv and setting up my LinkedIn profile, but it's hard to "prove" my experience, and many projects I worked on are private.
I am not sure if I can mention the companies I worked for, or how do to it... Feeling lost and doomed to keep freelancing.
Anyone made this transition before? How did you do it?5 -
Passed the whole day working on the back-end of my web-app, and right when I decide to find some nice icons for the front-end... My dad enters the room.

Tl;dr was told I couldn't and found I like programming. :)
Went to some school for testing out different industries but didn't have any goal nor found anything I was really interested in..
So i was tested for qualifications and told I was too stupid to be in IT..
So I decided to prove them wrong, went for an it supporter ground course and aced it with top grades + extra courses..
But still had no goals or dreams.
On that education, I met a friend who wanted to be a web programmer, so I decided to walk that path and aced another education with top grades..
Then I found, that I actually sorta enjoy programming and doesn't get bored quickly so then, I decided to plant my flag and become a programmer :)1 -
We are upgrading to nodejs 8 late, because no one is tracking versions. I had to rage a prove war with everyone that we must upgrade because node 6 is ended lts. This week i have to argue with one of the admins that the build server should be updated also (jenkins). And his problem is that our private jenkins server is not used only by our company, but other companies under our group. In my mind the only question is who decides our or other company project is important to build nor6maly. And why we should care ..
Every fucking time its a war against stagnant and/or lazy people.5 -
So CyberCoders automatically added me to a mailing list and kept emailing me spam about resumes of developers. Not being in a recruitment position, I decided to "opt out".
I had to fucking prove I'm human... to opt out of an email some machine added me to.
Allow me to add a poorly done image to express my feelings on this matter. -
when having a bug, instead of trying to prove, that you did everything right, start proving that you were wrong.
Then you'll get the yield earlier and you debug more efficient. -

I love coding. I enjoy the clickety-click of my keyboard and the joy of creating code that does something, to help the world be a better place. So why does upper management feel the need to bog me down in process paperwork, tickets to count my widgets, and endless endless emails and spreadsheets to prove that I have work to do. What are the time savings, priorities, cost avoidance... Blah blah blah... #IdRatherBeCoding :)3

Right,i consider myself a pretty damn good dev... I can back up everything I say to prove that I'm right on not lying to clients
But I see all these devs who do lie... Who withold data from clients cause it's not great.
And I go to clients and prove that they are lying not doing it right.
But I know saying to them... Oi your current devs are shit fire them ... Isn't a good way to get them as a client
Me and my company are open and honest ... we go all out on all of our projects. I work nonstop. It is seriously baffling the kind of developers are out there and how bad they can be I'm... Seriously just.... Urgh 😖
How should I go about talking to clients without going ... Fire them quick or saying that in a ... More humble respectful way...
I need more clients ... To survive and I don't mind coming across as a dick as long as they understand what's going on and that they are people ripped off by these asshole devs5 -

Hey y'all clever programmers.. If 'a' and 'b' are two equal real numbers, 'a' = 0.
a = b;
a^2 = a*b;
a^2 - b^2 = a*b - b^2;
(a - b)*(a+b) = (a - b)*b;
a + b = b;
a = 0;

I'm not getting why you guys complain about being judged for "hacking" while using the terminal.
In my case I'd occasionally like to open a terminal in my lubuntu (or archlinux in my previous times where the laptop was running smooth and i had to learn everything about how an OS works and spending most of the time searching about errors to find more desperate people and no answers but the community's hopefully growing and it's the best distro if you're an experienced linux user but not in my case so i had to use lubuntu for now until mastering it) to trigger those around me and try to prove them wrong afterwards.
I'll hit the airport for fun when i have time.3 -
I hate infrastructure prima-donnas. "Prove the thing you haven't built yet won't use too many resources!"
Seriously, buddy, get a real job. Provisioning hardware is a software problem now. Help or get out of the way so we can deliver. -
This talk by Rich Hickey had a tremendous influence in how I approach my work:
https://youtu.be/f84n5oFoZBc
His Hammock Driven Development is my absolute favorite when it comes to work principles in programming/engineering. It also the one that is the hardest to explain to most PMs and leads because it can look like you are slacking off while others are producing hundreds LOCs. That you'll write better, less error prone code that won't need as much QA iterations is something you first have to prove to them but to me, it's well worth the effort.
If you have 40 minutes of time, do yourself a favor and watch the video. Maybe it'll have as much influence on you as it had on me 😃 -

1. Apply for a 3 month Java internship.
2. Prove your worth and skills during it not even liking Java.
3. Get invited to work full time after it without further internship in any technology you want.

5. Be proud of how good you are that they still want you.
6. Get your own project in language and technology you prefer.

This one happened to me two years ago:
Off on holiday overseas, just arrived and decide to check my Emails. Easy peasy..."Hey, we noticed you're logging in from a different country. We sent a security code to your backup account."
Welp, fine, login to my backup account: "Hey, we..." Can anybody guess the problem here? Yep, my primary account was the backup account for my backup. Lovely circular dependency.
Microsofts solution: Play the guessing game, where you name us Emails, Contacts and Folders to prove it's yours and we might unlock your account... or not (managed to get it back on the 2nd try)
Thank you Microsoft for ensuring my workfree, email-free holiday.2 -
My five cents. People who actually don’t _know_ anything have a tendency to speak a lot of what they have been doing and are doing and what they are going to do. That is what they do. They talk a lot and can’t wait to get into the next meeting. To talk.
I’ve been at it for 16 years and I can spot this behaviour a mile away.
It’s the silent guys and girls you want! Quiet. And competent. Because, they know they have nothing to prove.5 -
I've now spent 6 hours trying to find a way to do something similar, as you can do in Neo4j, where you find relations up to depth 5, in PostgreSQL.
The issue is, I have to tables. One with persons, another one with relations (incoming ID and outgoing ID) to have a many to many relationship.
I'm at the point where I just don't care getting it to work. In Neo4j it's a fucking one liner, so why the fuck am I getting assigned to do this in PostgreSQL?
To prove a point? Well fuck you, I'm done with this shit.3 -
When I was younger I went to computer camps. We would basically play LAN games the majority of the time.
One year we played Jedi Knight Dark Forces II.
This game was super easy to hack since you would just save a local version of the file and it would override the game.
There was a god mode that you can download which would give your character 1 million in health and never die.
I then modified it so I had a health of 500. This way if I wanted to prove that I could be killed I would just call the kill command 4 times to bring my life back down to 100. -

I got their financial support to pursue higher education in CS and move abroad.
However, I've never really got their constant emotional support. Each decision I was taking, I always had to prove myself, which can be tiring and unmotivating, since I'm expecting uncoditional love and support from my parents, not an interview and a selling pitch for myself every time I tell them something1 -
I'm so glad I'm leaving my company soon. Big international group. At the moment they've started to change everything at our desks to make a giant open-space. Ignoring that literally 100% of the studies prove it's a bad idea for worker productivity and health. And then they dare lie to our faces that it's more productive, increases communication and makes employees happier.
Sure, with that they make savings and can add more desks... for contractors because fuck having real employees right ? It's much better to be able to fire them whenever they want !!

Today I noticed how incredibly insecure IBANs are.
You give it to anyone who wants to transfer money to your bank account, and all you need to perform a transaction is an IBAN, the account holders name and his signature.
So anyone who has your IBAN, your name and your signature (which all can occur in a single mail) can just send himself money from your account, cash out and move away. Noone can prove that it wasn't you who did the transaction and you couldnt find the guy.
And this is what all the banks in Europe use? What am I missing here?... how can a system this important be this insecure?10 -
Why do some people feel the need to prove their stupidity and utter lack of skill in the face of the world?!?!
Yesterday I learned that a sister company is hiring an intern civil engineer to code some application plugins connected to our IS ?!?!? How the fuck do you think he can only understand what the fuck we do?
To put it in context, I'm kind of the CDO of a French medium group (a little cluster of companies), as the group is in the construction industry I'm the CTO for all Computer things. Inside the group, I'm the CTO of the digital factory. So the group IS is a microservice decentralized API REST-based architecture.
Next Monday we'll have a meeting, so I can explain to them why it's a FUCKING STUPID IDEA!!!! The only good thing is that any application programming done outside of the Digital Factory will be handled as an External Company Application, so it's not my problem to secure it, debug it, or simply make it work. And they already know that I'll enforce this ruling!!!
But WHY the fuck do they still think any mother fucker can professionally program!!!!!! Every time I have to deal with them It's horrendous!!!! I had to prove them why using a not encrypted external drive for a high security mission It's stupid!!!, and why having the same password for every account is FUCKING STUPID!!!
The most ridiculous part is they have a guy who really believe he has some IT skills!! Saying things like "SVN" it's a today tool (WTF), firewall are useless, etc....
WHY!!!! WHY!!!!2 -
At my workplace nobody wants to work to prestashop project, and whenever someone complete a task he instantly earns a *prestashop level* with his personal bedge. I'm the new one and after my first admin-backend-module I earned the level 1 with the first bedge: the sticker (photo as prove). P.S. I already hate prestashop, just after a week. If you're offered high responsibilities, high power to make decisions should come with it.
You can't be expected to bear responsibility for other people's decisions if you have no power to decline them just because you feel like it. Your coworkers should prove things to you, and not the other way around. Why? Because you'll be held accountable, and you can't be expected to hold accountability of what you had no power to decline or moderate.
The absolute majority of problems I had while working with companies were caused by asymmetry in power / responsibility balance.
That's why if a company wants me to hold responsibility for a thing that other people can intervene with and make their edits, and I somehow have to PROVE something to them if I want them not to, I stop working with them immediately. Simple as that.
You want me to be accountable? Then I have the ultimate final say in everything. You want others to have the power to make decisions? Fine, then I'm not to be held accountable. And as it's impossible to find out who was responsible for what, I'll just be better off quitting right now.2 -
I guess all of you know udemy.

So you're working on a product that basically the main thing it does is fire off http requests and parse their responses into a nice model. We've made some nice helper class that allows you to do this easily, but a simple piece of functionality is not in there yet.
You agree to add this one simple function and decide to:
- Not conform to coding standards set by the team
- Document its behavior which does NOT match the implementation
- Not write a single fucking unit test to prove it's functionality

Two months in my new job, no task assigned to me yet. Not even one. There's been a budget reallocation, and the team just got dissolved. Will probably be moved to a new team (or not?). To create a really amazing OSS, I don't even care if anyone uses it or if it becomes popular or anything, I just want to do it to prove to myself that I don't need to get paid to write good code, I can do it to make the world a better place too.
This has really been my main goal for a long time now, sure I've written some a few OSS but I don't consider them up to that standard yet, but I am working on something right now that will get close if I ever manage to finish it and if it is well written. -
Lost my temper at one of our volunteer moderators the other day. We had to do a test using live data, our sysadmin warned him, but not far enough in advance and not really by the right channels. So that was on us. sorry not sorry. But so then he didn't believe us. He must be a geek too cuz he responded with some stupid math problem for me to solve, as if that would prove we work here and aren't hackers or scammers. I replied "how about if i just kick you out of your own group and delete your account, would that convince you?" And so I did. Asshole. Of course I had to apologize later and get a lecture from the boss, but it was kinda worth it.1

I was talking to a friend, and they were arguing that HTML was in fact a programming language. Their main argument was that you needed HTML to make a website.
I told them you could use something like React, and they said it doesn't count since you're still writing was is basically HTML
As a result, I will be writing an entire and actually decent webapp in nothing but vanilla JavaScript to prove him wrong. Just a <head> section and a body that loads a JavaScript file

My coworker has been freaking out that our company doesn't do Agile or Scrum right and it will negatively impact his career. He claims that some elite company will want him to prove he worked in well oiled Agile machine. He also claims his last company had it down to a T yet he voluntarily left so they couldn't have been that damn spectacular.
I'm on my 7th company and no one does this shit "right", everyone makes it up. Also it's impossible to prove that you worked in a perfect environment to a different employer, if they even care at all. If someone asks, just tell them what they want to hear because no one actually works in this mythical world of Agile perfection.1 -
I just noticed that whenever I get a captcha to prove I'm human, it's always images from the street.. cars, crosswalks, traffic lights, trucks, bikes, tractors etc etc...
I just want to know... Who's ML model I've been helping to train for the last i don't know how many years?!? 😤
I should've realized something smelled funny the moment i understood that a bot is asking me to prove my humanity to it, by doing something that a bot should be able to do by now.6 -

Algorithms class assignment..
"Prove that the merge procedure cannot run in place".
Searching google...
There are multiple merge procedures (though super complicated) that run in place.
What's the use of this class if we can't be practical because we must be theoretical, but we can't mention real theoretical stuff because it's so complicated??
I mean we are being told something that is just wrong..

I bought tickets for a friend of mine to visit me. She cancelled. I purchased travel insurance from Expedia. I have to now cancel one flight through Expedia, the return through the airline, and file a separate claim to get the money back. I hope they don't want me to prove she's sick, since she isn't (she's just a terrible person and I knew she'd pull this shit).
I hate the entire way the airline industry works. This is bullshit.
I hate the entire airline booking system.1 -
Knowing way more than what your current job needs, and enough to get a decent position, but no degree/certs/multi-thousand dollar sheets of paper to prove it and being stuck in a dead end job1

Just noticed a thread on r/programmerhumor about bank code intentionally adding delays with all these JavaScript code blocks of how it's adding sleep cycles in.
So I spent an hour reading the documentation and wrote up an over engineered solution in COBOL just to prove a point.2 -
I always feel python3 and pip3 are enemy of pip and python. My Mac always is in conflict of each other... Its feels like they are trying to prove each other3

— prove the god does exist
— prove it doesn't!
— well, the god _did_ exist, when there was no space and no time. I took my heavy masterpiece of a sword, went to meet him and slayed him. What was inside splattered, and this is how the universe was born. I killed him because I _wanted_ to, and I'm living in this time, talking to you because I _want_ to. And I will die because I want to, and will reincarnate if I want to.
— prove it happened!
— prove it didn't.1 -
What is a normal write speed (docs/second) for mongo db?
Can't find a benchmark online and well I'm trying to prove my point to my boss that our speeds are insanely slow due to index bloat,..13 -
I was pretty close to link one of my last rants in an university report just to prove how 'differently smart' the people in my group project are
Changed my mind when I realised that I use devrant manly to talk shit about uni and they may have noticed2 -
Python, my program doesn't work but is not giving any error, i read all the stackoverflow questions, arrived on the fourth page on Google, and the documentation is poor...
I'm about to die1 -
I checked something and the school I want to apply to for Computer Management (basically the paper I need to prove I’m a dev) requires me to do PE.... Like, come the FUCK ON. How am I gonna learn stuff (and get retold the same shit I know since I’m 10) about PROGRAMMING if I’m doing SPORTS?! WHY?! I can barely get up the damn stairs without my knees fucking up and being out of breath.... fml2

Last year, I was banned from Google For impersonating uziiuzair. The only problem was, there was no way to prove I was uziiuzair.2

I'm having a dilemma.
I currently hold a position as a Data Collector for one of the biggest tech companies around.
I have picked up a bit of programming by myself over the course of a year, hoping that I would have an opportunity to prove myself in said company for a more permanent position.
Thing is, I don't think they'll be able to take me seriously enough for a more technical position as long as I don't have a degree, which I don't.
So, I was thinking of pursuing a BSc in Computer Sciences, to increase knowledge and at the same time, increase my career prospects.
However, this means that I would have to leave the company, effectively giving up any footholds I have made there already.
Any advice?5 -
The moment where you can prove the senior that the bug was not because of you but of him..
If you have absolutely the need of make someone feel guilty about a bug, then at least be sure you find the right person!!! -
Hey, i'm just a guy and I develop applications and study at the same time, so I dont work...
In a lot of post I read words like IT jobs, 'editing code in production', could someone please explain me their meaning? Thank you3 -
I'm probably going to have to say IE. Microsoft pretended like they fixed everything, then removed conditional comments to "prove" it, except now you have to have five times as much code and eighteen different file formats just to get a stinking video embedded in a web page.
Welcome, Edge. Not a moment too soon. -
I hate coding tests for a job interview. I've done three types:
1) university style of "write function that does x" (fizz buzz)
2) this code has a bug, fix it
3) write a program that does this university style contrived thing (exact change)
One and two usually are timed to 10 to 15 minutes per question. Three is untimed but unstated "time counts".
Off all three, the last one is the best in my opinion. However it still seem like we could come up with something better.1 -
I just got this linked from a friend of mine:

I believe this js widget can prove quite useful to many...3 -
I was the first person to actually discover how a black hole looks like. And i can prove it. node_modules/

I started a project to practice and familiarize myself with SQL more and Entity Framework Core and prove how much I’ve learned from reading this book.
It was originally gonna be small program with a small database but over the course of me designing the database I thought of more features I could add. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a project and it feels good to have one.
Right now I’m only messing with SQLite but since the position I want to apply for asks for SQL Server I want to mess with that eventually.5 -
How am i supposed to learn C# if Visual Studio took me 24 hours to install, now that it's installed it crashes every time i build my code, plus, it makes chrome and IE crash every 5 minutes, and it lags as shit?11
-
I can't delete old useless code, I am afraid of deleting it and I always end up commenting it as if I am giving it a chance to prove itself. #rant3

Am I the only one that who is forced to implement some funcionality that I know that wont work only to prove to the client that actually wont work as I predicted?
And then implement how I suggested at the begining?5 -
I recently graduated from university and landed a job as a junior devops engineer.
There’s so much tech stacks to learn and I’m in the process of converting a legacy CI system composed of only bash scripts to Python and I feel that 8 hours a day isn’t enough and I often feel that after working hours, I should be reviewing more so that the next day I can be more productive.
I am given tasks to do but I keep feeling the pressure that I need to prove myself.
Is this normal? I’m not used to this learning pace.2 -
Should I learn C# or Java?
There are many topics over the internet but a direct opinion from you guys would be appreciated.
I would also know, what does C# have in common with asp.NET and web application development? It isn't clear to me
Thanks18 -
## Reasonable answers needed ##
If you always work free and forced overtime, and you didn't get any salary raise fir a while. and then you asked to learn and work with new language and framework you didn't work with it before, you would prove yourself and learn it or you would ask for a raise first (or you simply you won't work do it)?
Context: fucked up market, no other job founded. and father.12 -
As a frelancer: Many fucking meetings, last minute request, clients/bosses thinking days last 10 hours and no way to prove overtime other than work. Sometimes, you are even punished with less money for being efficient.
Be an asshole, sign a contract with a budget, get paid start and end, respect yourself more than you respect your clients. Clients are assholes until proven otherwise.3 -
It should be possible to prove the collatz conjecture by mapping the unit digit transitions between numbers, namely into a finite state machine. From there we could use predicates and quanitifiers to prove, by process of exclusion, that for any given combination of 10s digit and 1s digit, no number can transition to anything but whats specified in the state machine assuming that number equals x in x3+1 or x/2
Ipso facto, a series of equations proving by process of elimination, that state machines transitions are the only allowable ones, would prove the collatz conjecture by proving the fsm is a valid representation for any given integer N.
I'm actually working on it now but I don't know enough about modular arithmetic and predicate logic to write a proof. I just have the state diagrams on some dot matrix paper at the moment.
If anyone wants to beat me to it, feel free.
So for example any number ending in 13, will, after x3+1, end in 40.
Any number ending in 40 will end in 20. Any number ending in 20 will end in 10, which will end in 5 as the unit digit.
It's easier to prove in the single digit case, and the finite state machine for that is already written, at least on paper.
I'll post pictures when I get a chance.7 -
Flyway is bullshit. Genuinely who the FUCK finds this useful??? Why the Fuck do you want to have an ORM, next to a custom jdbc and to top it all off you also write custom sql queries in flyway just so you can prove your colleagues what db migrations happened WTF you can see that on git commits dumbass!!!! 3 different sql models that need to be the same but are written differently each. One through ORM, through code and through raw sql queries. Flyway just makes shit harder and having 1 change in model means i need to fuck myself with rewriting raw SQL queries in flyway WASTE OF TIME8

Testing requirements, some of these are pretty specific such as 'don't do X before you compute Y'... OK, check that off
Now we have some independent analyst saying how can you prove 'X' isn't done... "Look at the source code we've provided"
"OK, but where in the source should I look [for something which isn't there]?" -
Back when I was a freshman in high school a friend of mine put an emulator on the shared drive, so we could play NES games while in the computer lab. Didn't know better/didn't care. One day I get pulled out of class and walked into the computer guys office. In there is also the principal of the school and the Chief of police.
The computer guy tells me there was an issue last week that caused the school server to crash and it caused damage. I asked what happened and the he said one of the emulators we were playing had a script that crashed the server and caused damage. I asked how much damage and they informed me it was over 3 thousand dollars. At this point I'm very skeptical that the damage was worth about the cost of a new workstation (the old one sitting on his desk, buried in boxes), and afterwards none of the faculty knew of any kind of an outage. I asked for him to show me what broke and what had to be done to fix/replace the damaged equipment but all I got was a simple, "I'm sorry. I can't show you that at this time."
They threatened legal action for a felony of damaging a school property. Myself and the other tech savvy kids talked about it over the next couple of days wondering what would happen. They threatened expulsion for myself and a couple of other kids, but ultimately just got a talking to about keeping personal information safe.
What I got out of it was if they think I'm good with computers I must be doing something right. Now I'm in IT. This is where it went wrong. -
just wondering... Am I the only one that likes the old Windows 95/98 graphic style? I find very simple and professional... I like old OSes GUI6

Anybody try to memorize anything large? I am thinking about memorizing books just to do it, and to prove to myself that referencing crap isn't required all the time. Might be interesting.
Posting here because I want my community's opinion on the value/nature of the question.3 -
it's "limits to growth" because if we're right we win and if we don't win we will limit your growth so that we win, how dare you try to prove us wrong by existing you must've done it on purpose, heathen!3

To not get fired. I'm a student at the best high school in my country, so it's really unusual that I work besides school. I want to prove that it's not only possible but beneficial. I already learned a lot, but if I won't get fired, I'll be close to senior level by the time I start working full-time, which will help a lot with university.1

Goddammit Microsoft!! Hardly a month in and you just had to prove yourselves. You had one job!!
News source: https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/20...joke/meme sorry but not sorry youhadonejob i know microsoft hasn't yet acquired it goddammit but it's still funny to blame them5 -
My senior is lying about fixing bugs in my code to the big boss. I can’t prove it because I don’t have access to the live site files. I don’t have the rapport with the higher ups yet, what do I do?11

I have a dream that one day companies will understand that most people who pirate music/movies/games etc. do it because they don't have enough money or because they can't get them any other way. They don't lose money, as those people are not able to buy their products anyway, instead, they gain supporters and possible future clients. Piracy is one of the reasons Windows is the king OS(prove me wrong...) and also the reason Game of Thrones is the most popular show on the planet. Instead of hunting torrent site founders maybe they could, I don't know, build great and cheap services. Spotify is such a service, no reason to pirate music anymore, but everything else still lies in the middle ages...8

doing documentation in word and having meetings about it, code reviews where people say great code quality with all good practices but... we would like to do it differently, reasons? less lines of code but real reason is not understanding design patterns, also 6 levels of hierarchy and wasted effort to prove that approach is good and considered as good practice just to be changed by someone who doesn't write code anymore. Decisions that other approach is better because they did it that way 10 years ago on last project where they were developers on totally different tech stack. dear friends, welcome to corporation!1

Today I fought against a monster named as CSS and I sort of won.
I am having a problem in that the grid layout don't work with the scroll bar (overflow)
After hours of trying thing out I remember that I am just creating the prove of concept that the system can actually be build.
I said "Hey this is just a prototype, it doesn't need to be pixel perfect, and finally use height in css".
I really appreciate it if anyone can advise me on less dirty method. Here is the source code

The input box should stay at the button no matter how much text the container have. The fiddle have the intended behavior.4 -
ColdFusion and ZKOSS framework documentation has been my reading for this first week at the new job.
The nervousness and anxiety is starting to settle down but won't be gone for a while I think. I'm excited and eager to start actually working on our product to both prove my worth (after being selected over 40 or so other applicants) and calm the hell down about my competence.1 -
As a techie how loves the climate, I feel like I am living two life's. On one hand, I want to protect my earth, but than I make a app, and Evan though I buy offsets, what about all of the users. Why was I born this way, and can the natural and the man-made coexist? That is the question I must ask myself all day. I am looking to drone powered climate research in a effort to prove to my self they benefit each other, but I just can't. I fucking hate my life rn2

Starting new job on the Isle of Man 🇮🇲!
- Prove to myself that I can make it on my own merits.
Impostor syndrome is real.4 -
I own my phone number over two years and still can’t sign up in Venmo, I really feel their app have problems: No different use email or phone number sign up! After I wrote a letter for them, they asked me three months of my phone number status, so number verify mean nothing on your app? Did everyone need three months status to prove phone number? !
I just feel such a popular app but the product design sucks!1 -
As a machine (plc) programmer I regularly have to get my 17mm laptop out to fix mechanical problems.
It really winds me up when mechanical or electrical bods can't find the faults so they blame software, I prove to them that it's not software by using hand tools and doing their job for them.
Bone idle people! -
Code verification
senior dev: You wrote this code yourself?
Me: Yes sir, it's clean right?
Senior Dev: Prove it
Me: Blah Blah Blah...
Senior Dev: Damn, You the realest -
When you work with a client who will only use Fireworks for graphics but you only have one dying old machine with a licensed copy and Adobe won't give you keys even though you bought them years ago (and can prove it!) and you can't buy new keys because they don't sell them and even if we had them we can't download it any more.
WTF Adobe!! It's a dead product! We don't want support or anything. Just give us the feckin' keys and the bloody installer!!4 -
Microsoft certifications... worth it or not?
MCSA (web applications, universal windows platform, MCSD (app builder), etc...
Currently I am stressing myself out for these certifications and all people around me either say it is worthless or it is VERY valuable. I hate exams, it makes feel sick, is there other ways to prove that I am a good dev? (I know I know... create your own apps, participate in interesting projects, but I do not always have time and enthusiasm for that. I want to have my evenings and weekends free from programming)5 -
Never went to Uni.
I am currently a College student (UK).
I've also got a part time job as a Web Developer.
I've got this job because I was able to prove myself.
Nothing I've learned at the College is useful for my job.
I've seen a lot of fresh graduates getting jobs at my company. They think they know their shit - that is until they get smashed by reality.
From what I've seen the CS degree is not worth a penny. I might still go to Uni but I'd rather choose a different subject.3 -
Follow up my last rant which people thought it was my fault
The school called, the manager apologized and said the security guards are not trained that way and they were suppose to tell me multiple ways I can prove that I am a student. He promised me that this is not gonna happen anymore.
I did not fuck up, people5 -
On science and religion. Inspied by a comment in another rant, credits to @Commodore and @cjbatz
According to Godel's incompletness theorems, aritmetics is incomplete and inconsistent. Therefore, any science based on aritmetics (dude, like, every) is also.
Therfore, as a mathematician, I must accept that there are things that cannot be proven by current science, and that there are statements that are true and false at the same time in current science.
So, science can't prove religious beliefs? It cant prove P vs NP either. It might someday. Science couldn't prove earth wasn't flat for a looong time. Or Pythagoras theorem.
But more importantly, if science can prove something, doesn't mean it can't prove the exact oposite.
This way of thinking allows for any and all ridiculous beliefs, under the shield of "it might be proven one day" or "doent't mean opposite isn't true also" but kerp in mind that there are complete and consistent sciences and proofs in them. Check if something's been proven to exist or not exist without doubt.11 -
use a mutable obj as hashmap key and the hash code changes when obj got updated. evey text book told u this is a stupid bug and impossible to debug, and I spend a week to prove u can debug it out when in single thread app
-
I don't, I just try to ignore it :/
Having only one finished, complete, project being in Firebase, node and Vue doesn't give me much confidence... Even though I have quite a bit of experience in UE4 and Unity I have never finished a game. So I know my shit, but I can't prove it ._.1 -
How the heck do you ever make your managers satisfied. They somehow conspire to make you work and then chuck it by the end, only to use their own shitty solutions and to prove that you are worthless. IF YOU ARE A SENIOR, IT DOES'NT MEAN YOU ARE BETTER.1
-
Are there any certifications worth focusing on? I'm fresh out of high school, doing an internship at a web dev company.
Everyone I've asked has told me to focus more on experience and the things on my github to prove that I can code, but I'm pretty sure have some certifications will help me somewhere in life.
I've looked into Cisco, Microsoft, Google, AWS and many more, but I have no idea where to start.
Any help will be appreciated :)1 -
I just had a weird thought.
Doesn't the splash screen warning for the inbox app going away kind of prove that inbox is superior?
I only have to click "not switch now" once which saves me from clicking through the Gmail sidebar 4 times one for each "category"2 -
I start with a POC or a prototype to prove it can be done and to fart around with possibilities. Then I start refactoring the prototype into a full product.

Roblox seem to believe that you can actually send texts to landline phones. At least the landline is prefix is the only choice for phone verifications when living in the Åland Islands. I've brought this problem to Roblox's attention a year ago and they promised to fix it. Then I've reminded them a couple of times during the past year. Each time, they respond with stupid AI (Artificial Idiocy) generated answers, prompt me to send screenshots and once even screen captured videos. The follow-up answers I get just prove what I've been thinking for a year now, that Roblox don't give a shit about their users. Fuck it, it's a crappy platform anyway and I'm probably better off moving on to Unreal Engine.3
-
Sooo, today someone who is not my manager or anywhere in the hierarchy leading to me threatened me and told me that I need to prove either one of 2 software solutions providers they're working with to be at fault about an issue or "I will be at risk"... I just kept it to myself and took my things and left.
I didn't want to inform my boss cuz he just took a vacation today and he'd probably break the consulting contract with them.
What would you do in such case?4 -
Hey guys! I was working as a programmer for 3 years now, but I don’t have any diplomas or anything to prove that I can code. However I soon want to relocate from my country, and I was thinking about this: Is it a problem that I don’t have a diploma, or just the acual work experience would be enough for me to get a job abroad?
How is it in your country?4 -
I'm currently working at a company that builds escape-room alike games (sadly that's how I can best describe it). My boss lives by the "I like this therefore this is how it should be!"-mentality, and this has led to none of the rooms having anything in common with any of the other game. I need help finding a way to inform him that we need to unify the look and feel of our games to create a overall feel and a "brand".
Do any of you have any good way of showing that this is a good idea and a way to prove that it's needed, straight out telling him this has not worked.7 -
When you have a BA who types things to prove that they do work, then you get to be the BA too. Good thing that architecture, test design, code quality, and sanity aren't really a priority.
