"WiFi is better than Ethernet because the air is bigger so it can hold more internet."
Yes, and horse-drawn carriages are better than cars because they have bigger wheels.13 -
Let's quickly talk about idiots.
> A simpleton coworker of mine installed Ubuntu on his brand new ThinkPad with a touch screen.
> Asks me to show him the Linux games site I mentioned earlier.
> I see that he has no browser installed.
No Firefox, Chromium, Epiphany, etc.
> Now I know that he has a room temperature IQ and something moronic is going to happen.
Truth be said, I subliminally desired a terminal based browser.
> Then he fucking opens Wine and I shit you NOT! That thundercunt opens...
> Internet Explorer!
> I punched his screen.
> No longer a touch-screen laptop.17 -
- Boss: Why are you laughing so much secretly, this is not professional
- Me: Oh sorry, I am listening to the radio while I am working
Truth: I am reading wk101 rants, I can't bear2 -
The truth is, I don't give two shits if you're a girl, woman, man, black, white, yellow striped with pink polkadots or a transgenderfluid 2headed Ogre kin married to a nuclear penguin from mars- the fact is, what I need you to be is professional. So shut your yapping about your personal shit and get to fecking work.32

Have you ever wondered, you "Hello World" then who "hello" back to you, and this is the truth...XD6

There was a previous developer who my managers has told us was terrible and toxic. Yet due to terrible planning, he had everyone work for over 13 hours last Sunday.
I contacted this previous developer to learn his side of the story and learned a lot. I realize between their two narratives is the truth, but I see all the ways we've been lied, the ways this other dev was scapegoated and all the additional work that's sure to come.
I refuse to work weekends again. I refuse to work over 40 hours. I wish I could convince everyone else to do the same. No amount of money is worth making up for bad planning and management.1 -
Truth be told. I'm funnier on the internet, but damn am I weird and socially awkward in real life.6
-
Only one sticker.
I go door-to-door every Sunday, "Excuse me dear sir/madam, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Haskell?".
Most people slam the door shut in my face, but every lost family I convert to the way of the monad is worth it.
Even if they don't believe in the same deity, even if they express their love for the divine through something as misguided as Typescript or Swift or whatever, as long as they embrace the truth of strong types and composable code, as long as they at least read the gospel of the functional style once in their lives, have one enlightened moment where they see the glory of morphisms, it's all good.34 -
I made a setting that hides your messages in a group chat. The UX guy said it would "cut down noise" to only see what others are saying.
I would like to tell you that I did this thing at gunpoint, but the truth is I did it out of malice. Sweet, sweet malice.
When the community reacted with the expected, uh, reaction... the UX guy got all the credit he deserved.
Sweet, sweet malice.4 -
Back when I was in school (about 15 years old) and I played games, I had a particularly favourite game that I would play. It was a lesser known strategy game made by a single hobbyist Dev.
I was already known in the community for making some mods for the game and chatbots.
What most people didn't know was that I had made a map hack and various other cheats that made it significantly easier to win by reverse engineering the game and modifying the x86 assembly in ollydbg.
One thing in particular I had been working on at the time was a game replay editor. I had reverse engineered the saved game (replay) format and was able to replay them, edit them and generate them.
During one particular match, a person in the community particularly annoyed me and I edited the saved game to change what his moves were and the words he spoke. It made him look a bit like an idiot but IMHO was only a slight exaggeration of the truth.
I posted the game replay on the forums and everyone was in hysterics about the crazy things he did and said in the replay.
As no one knew I had this capability they all believed the replay and even the guy in the replay couldn't believe it himself and didn't understand what happened. He just kept telling everyone it didn't happen and the 'truth is in the pudding'.
Although I originally intended to tell everyone what I did, I never did and whenever the guy entered in to a game everyone would laugh about it and say 'the truth was in the pudding'.
He was no longer annoying me and it sort of made me feel like a god at the time.
So that's my wk65.2 -

RandomGuy: "well actually, that's not correct. The truth is blah blah blah"
Can you please just for like 5mins enjoy the joke and have a laugh?

Dear EA games.
If you want to tell me my password needs to be “more” secure in your error message, at least tell the fucking truth about it.
- 100 random character password entered on mobile
- response: password needs to be more secure

- must be between 8 and 16 characters...
- I think that’s a Wii little Less secure you ass hats, and WHY can’t you show this fucking notice on mobile 😖12 -

People say programmers are no fun!! But they don't know the truth.
We have big Ass container of emotions almost ready to explode anytime. We are spending too much time in debugging stuff one after another that having a free time is just a hoax to us, even when we came back home for sleep, it's only to dream about solution. We would be happy with debugging the error that is not letting us sleep for weeks.4 -
My Love I am writing to you from the front lines roughly 1 month into Microsoft Access. I hope you are doing alright and no harm has found you.
You might have heard the news that it has not been going well for us. The truth is we were not prepared in any way for this. We are constantly facing problems with the code and when we understand one function another two are referenced inside of that function.
The high command does not provide us guidance, truth be told I do not think they know what their application is doing. I am surprised we got this far. Our new objective is to focus our primary forces on the if/else and cases. The name for this assault is "Operation Logical Function" and I fear for my life as I do not know what is in those cases or where the road will lead.
Morale is very low, many of the soldiers spend time writing letters to their loved ones, recreating their blog for the 5th time or just daydreaming when they were free from this tyranny of legacy war.
For now , I long to be in your arms and smell your lilac and gooseberries cologne I love so much
My love and thoughts always with you , your John7 -
When interviewing for a .NET position, ask which language they work in! Don't assume it to be C#. Even when you do and pass your technical test in C#. This is how I found out a few days into my current job I'd now be working in Visual Basic. Part of me thinks they hid the truth on purpose :(9

Devs are my closest friends and I have learned so much from you all.
They ask some of the best questions, their skill set is ever evolving, they have the real problem solving mindset, they are critical towards any and everything in a good way, and so much more.
There was this thread asking what a bad Product Manager is and this answer takes the cake.
The point highlighted in red is the ultimate truth.
Devs are most innovative people of our times. Big shout-out to you all and thank you for making me who I am today :)16 -
I applied for PHP Developer
Interviewer: What is interface?
Me: it is class with unimplemented methods?
Interviewer: But why we use it?
Me: it acts as a contract so you can assure that
on implementing interface developer will follow
the same architecture.
Interviewer: that's okay but why is the need for an interface at first place?
I was irritated with the interview process as he was smirking
every time I answered.
Me: I never get a chance to do that kind of research. Truth is
even if you hire me your manager will declare the unrealistic deadline and won't care if I comment the code or know why we really need to implement an interface.
After he did not smile and I left the chair.13 -

A professor once told me he loved being a CS professor because "you can't smoke and then code well." I laughed my butt off because a solid majority of his class smoked right before class every day.
The look on his face when I told him the truth about his students was priceless. I feel bad about shattering his world view. Kind of.3 -
Want to hide this devRant apps on android but how?

Oh so easily the trust between the employee and boss can be destroyed.
All it took was hearing the truth from another one.10 -
I am a people people pleaser.
Especially when it comes to deadlines. I struggle heavily with them. For example:
My boss: 'Will the app be done by Friday?'
Me: 'well some features won't be ready but overall yes.'
The truth: "No even if I work on it 24/7 there are just so many things in the background that are too technical to explain to my boss that it will be impossible for me to hit that deadline. It will most likely take over a month to be ready for beta testing...."
I just don't know how to deal with those kinds of questions. I don't want to say 'most likely over a month' because it makes me look like a bad dev but at the same time I know that that is way more realistic than 'it will be done by Friday'
The truth is: even if it just looks like 3 buttons to you, in reality I need to change thousands of lines of code to accomplish the expected goals...
P.S:
I wanted to write this rant for a long time. Now I am drunk. There will be a sober more ordered version of this rant.11 -
@MissDirection today I learned what it truly means to be a "codeslut". I understand the decision you made to change your username due to the circumstances but I want you know that I'm now seriously considering prepending 'CodeSlut' to my username.
To be a code slut, in my definition, is to fuck with all things code.
I don't remember the idiot(s) that murked the name with shame, I remember being scornful towards them for their immaturity...But now I know whole the truth, and that what they were also unknowingly shaming was any engineer who has had an interest in anything related to code. Fuck them, in a sense they've fucked themselves, because I personally believe that as developers there's a little (code)slut in each and every one of you. Those who are willing to fuck with all of it and have a damn good time doing it. To dabble in a little bit of this and a little bit of that from time to time. Whether or not we stick with it is irrelevant, it's the experience we gain from it that makes us better people. To shame a code slut is to shame the pursuit of knowledge. And to shame the pursuit of knowledge is to shame my purpose in life. I stand by my pursuit to fuck with it all, no tech is sacred - I will fuck with it!
Please @MissDirection don't let my new username stop you from ever changing yours back to what it was or take this as some form of a personal insult/joke. I'm serious - I understand now. I'm not even sure if you realised it, but QueenCodeSlut held such beauty and truth to it that many(including myself) couldn't even begin to fathom. That is enlightenment of the utmost pulchritude, please accept this username change as a gesture of honor and respect towards you and any other fellow humans with their own endeavors of truth and knowledge.12 -
Come on guys ... Everyone was young once we all thought java and JavaScript were basically the same thing! ...
Granted I was 7... when I learnt the truth....22 -
As a person who takes a lot of tech interviews everyday, here are a few thoughts
1. You DON’T need to know everything, it’s okay to say you don’t know things. Trust me, we know when you’re lying
2. Rule of thumb, the more the number of questions, the more we like you
3. We don’t mind you saying what you’re thinking when we ask a logical question. It might help us understand your approach to the problem and guide you.
4. Don’t google during telephonic interview, your stutter tells us the truth9 -
No matter how much documentation you write, and how well you comment the code, the truth is always the code itself.17
-
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether you are, or are not, appreciated by your boss or peers. 'git log' tells the truth. The only truth that really matters.4

Byron (reckful) has committed suicide. He was one of the first big streamers on Twitch and a game developer.
He was suffering from depression and has been for quite some time. He always appears happy around friends. He did "joke" about committing suicide on his last stream. Watching the clip makes it obvious that there was some truth to the "joke".
Also, remember that you never know what someone online is suffering from or how that person may interpret a joke. Be careful and think about how your message is received.
Please seek help if you have suicidal thoughts or even signs of depression. It's not a sign of weakness. We all need help sometimes.7 -
Planning.
- Sales people: we will deploy and install 100 customers by the end of the month.
Meaning: 100 it's impossibile, we want actually do 50, but we set a high target so people will sweat their ass off. But we don't tell them the truth.
- Tech people: no way, we will deploy and install no more than 25!
Meaning: we could do 100 but we would die. We will guarantee 25, but since we are good we will optimise the workflow and maybe we will make it to 50. But we don't want to create expectations.
Big misunderstanding arise if these two language are used in the same meeting.
At least if I'm in the meeting as technical people7 -
People with "I am a senior, only I have to be right" mindset are really fustrating to work it.
It is not that hard to accept the truth. No one can be right all the time and no one gonna look down on you for that. You don't have to shove off-topic stuffs down the other people's throat when you realize you might be wrong.4 -

I’ve come to recognise a simple truth about why companies are pushing for returning to full time work from office, is this.
There’s a lot of middle managers who have been taught to synonymize work with misery. Like a Freudian dog, they’ve learnt to believe that work happens whenever they see someone being miserable in front of a computer.
That’s why they want to see in person all the non verbal cues of a programmer experiencing misery. Without it, they don’t get the reward response of thinking that work is happening, even if the work is literally happening faster from home.9 -
Observation
Usually happens when hitting some heavy development after waking up to an idea at 5am and rushing in to the office to make it happen. Then you write for hours straight refilling some coffee once in a while.
At some point you start finding other people at the coffee station and the smalltalk starts. For some reason I can't turn my brain into social mode. Someone asks me stuff like "How was your weekend?" And the answer can be anything between "I like turtles" and some totally uninhibited and unintended truth in the TIM category.
Flow is strong but it totally fucks up my social capabilities. It also makes me happy =D4 -
You can get mad about Apple releasing stuff that Android has been doing for 10 years. But also get mad about you not being able to pick up and Android phone that is not a buggy mess. I will pick Apples pretentious products over wanting to throw my phone on the floor at least 5 times a day because swiping doesn't work the first 10 times or because I have to select an input field 6 thousand times for it to highlight or because every action has a delay for no apparent reason.
Yes Apple sucks but truth is Android sucks hell of a lot more. Sorry not sorry.31 -
the real truth is that web dev has been running around in circles on itself for over a decade now

I read a lot about people that think that millennial are the most entitled and demanding group of people. The more i work in technical support, or any Client based job, i know how it's an half truth.
Truth is Older people usually are WAY worse. Can't fucking make a decision by themselves, i always have to CHOOSE their fucking language. How can you so stupid, you can't figure out which language you want you computer in... You don't know which language you talk dumb fuck? (Not talking about keyboard layout here, you can imagine it's even worse! But at least i know why somebody that has no technical knowledge can be confused)
I have to take them hand by hand because they can't figure out how to read... Younger people usually just say: Okay i'll try that! Thanks! And just hang up, no fucking dicking around on things i don't know what they are doing or why they are asking. They are rarely the fuckers that want to talk to a supervisor to get free repairs and returns. Entitlement at it's best...
Stupidity and entitlement have no age. Period.9 -
My worst experience with a recruiter has to be when i wasn't interested in a particular position they became hostile with me demanding why and contacting me on a regular basis to see if i had changed my mind.
Truth is you ain't getting shit from me.
Always remember you have the control with recruiters, don't give them the ability to take you for a ride. -
I suspected that our storage appliances were prematurely pulling disks out of their pools because of heavy I/O from triggered maintenance we've been asked to automate. So I built an application that pulls entries from the event consoles in each site, from queries it makes to their APIs. It then correlates various kinds of data, reformats them for general consumption, and produces a CSV.
From this point, I am completely useless. I was able to make some graphs with gnumeric, libre calc, and (after scraping out all the identifying info) Google sheets, but the sad truth is that I'm just really bad at desktop office document apps. I wound up just sending the CSV to my boss so he can make it pretty.1 -
After ten years of working sh*t jobs I finally got the chance to study CompSci at a top university... All the kids look at me as if I've been programming for years, truth is I just study a lot because my scholarship requires me to get B+ or above.

I dunno if I should have but I told my clients their video they are having made is shit (not exactly like that)

One of my favorite things to do in Secondary School was to go around telling people I had written a program that uses the 'Doomsday Algorithm' which sounded really cool and always scared those who didn't understand it.
Truth is, the 'Doomsday Algorithm' is just an Algorithm that used to determine the Day of the Week of a given date.
I wrote this when I was 13/14 years old and I'm still super proud of it today.... well I mean I probably would be if I could read my own code.1 -
Signed up on Freelancer as a soft engg. graduate with quite a lot of projects in Android and web services. When people say that Gen Z is fucked, I used to scoff at them thinking it's not that bad as they make it out to be.
But I've witnessed it first hand now, it's real. Totally real. I only spoke about my salaries in my resume video and people are actually thanking me for telling the truth.
They're soooo used to getting told lies to, that someone even speaking a little bit truth is mind blowing to them. It breaks my heart, honestly.3 -

My first experience with computers was in "technology" class at school.
The teacher told us we had to switch off the monitor then turn off the computer.
Once, I forgot about this and did the other thing around, and I got yelled at ... It traumatised me so much that for a few years I always did it that way, thinking that I could break something doing otherwise...
I still feel bad thinking about this and hate that teacher for such a useless trauma about a thing he didn't understand either.2 -
I regularly diss on PHP in office but the truth is just that the developers before me wrote bad code. It was bad code in PHP alright but they had a whole framework to use and at least organize their code better but they didn't use it.
I have seen their JavaScript code too and it was all in one file.
P.S. I have no idea under which condition they had to write the code. The app was initially outsourced.5 -
Funny how everything that seems like an almost general truth about the computer users is conditioned only but the phrase "..excepting Linux users" 🤔
No one randomly recommands operating systems ... excepting Linux users!

Does anyone know how in Movies and TV shows do all those computer sites/software are done?
Like when we see a cia mission room for example, and there after agents running a face recognising and get 50 popups with information, or location some secret hide out place and super cool screen with 10 widgets show us location..
That can't be real.. But i have no idea how it's done.. is it green screen replaced later with fake video, or something similar? Please help, I MUST KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!!!!18 -
@apple since I can't move Xcode's instruction pointer without crashing Xcode or my app, I have to use a global with 'if' statements to have optional debugging logic.
if( ! gAppleFuckTards) {
... do optional code stuff
}
and then change the value of gAppleFuckTards with the debugger to execute the code.. but WAIT
Xcode purports to be able to change values via debugger but really cannot... can't change gAppleFuckTards to false in the debugger. But that kinda makes sense as it is an empirical truth.
Thwarted by the cosmos again!2 -
I know this is sort of off topic but I think Psychology is pretty great sometimes and while it doesn't explain why we behave the way we do, it does a great job studying it, at least. So to explain why fake news is so rampant and why despite us being in the middle of the technology age, so many are still ignorant, they conducted a study on what makes a source credible. It's a very long and thorough study, so I will like it for you to read, but the gist of it is this: any long text which is too boring to read word for word is automatically taken for truth. Images add credibility. And simply adding a reference - even if it isn't a credible reference or if it's not related to the information at all - will make readers assume truth, and most won't even think to validate the links.
Here's the full story:

People sometimes say "you work too much" but the truth is most of the time I'm just coding for fun. It's rare to say, but at least to me, and surely many of you guys my work is one of my hobbies. It sucks that many can't understand that.1

"Most tech content is bullshit"
N-gate summary:
"A webshit determines and announces the core truth of webshit. Hackernews bemoans the displacement of the technical book by the shitposting factory, but fails to reinvent the industry journal as a replacement. Other Hackernews debate whether the problem might actually be those snotty kids who don't know anything. The Hackernewsest post comes as someone declares critical thought as Considered Harmful, and recommends instead pestering random experts to train you for free. The rest of the comments are mad at Google for returning shitty search results, making it too difficult to just be told what to do."8 -
My uncle's photos dating to 7-10 years. It was a massive collection of family photos. My brother took his laptop for learning development. Then we decided to install Linux into it. But it never came to our mind that there were that kind of a photo archive in a folder somewhere. So eventually were installed linux by removing partitions and creating them from ground. Everthing is lost. It's been more than month and we don't have the guts to tell him the truth.5

No, the language is not stupid :) No, it is not a problem of the language, it's just the fact that you don't really understand how to use it properly :) i think this is something each of us hates to hear while frustated but needs to hear afterwards, bad design is a posibility tho, but 99.999% of the cases is our fault. face it, nd overcome it! and finally, to grow beyond it 😄

Redux and ngrx look like a good way to do what you already do in a more verbose way and with a lot of boilerplate.
I love the idea of keeping the state of the whole app and the single source of truth, but... why so verbose? It's almost more the time spent to write boilerplate code than the time spent writing "productive" code1 -
I hate it when managers and team members don't utilise JIRA as the one source of truth.
When you move your card into the Review column, set the assignee to `unassigned` so that people know to pick it up. It's so much easier to understand the state of it !
"But then we don't know who's worked on it" - is NOT a valid reason to leave the original author as the assignee. It just leads to work not being reviewed. -
I was asked to update the whole confidential, financial database by exporting it as excel, and using Macros to edit its content. Much akin to adding one extra attribute per row.
The truth is, the table originally had 6.3k records. After updating and putting the data back to NoSQL database again, I realized I ended up creating 7k rows of data. Yet it works just perfect !
*HAILS TO ALMIGHTY FOR THE MIRACLE*
Sometimes, I still wonder where did those effin 700 rows come from, even after I skipped an excel while uploading2 -
*use windows, ms office, vsc, skype probably code in ts, ... *

I'm not a microsoft fan either, but thats the sad truth.1 -
Kinda wanna say my teammates are incompetent morons but the truth is I'm not much better
So saying that about them would be admitting it about myself4 -
I choose to believe performance self assessments are useful. Not for, like, my actual job, but they keep me grounded. Nothing like seeing your entire body of work for a year summed up in 30 to 40 bullet points to deflate your ego. Also it gives me a chance to work on my skills in what some of you might consider "lying" though I consider it more along the lines of "creative truth telling" and "having a loose grasp on reality".
-
I should see it coming by now... it happens every release. I’m so tired of the ‘but can’t you just build in this one more thing?’ meetings. If I tell them we can’t, they get mad. If I tell them we can and we don’t deliver, they get mad. So... you want the truth or do you want me to lie to you? Your choice!5

"It is pointless to use just a fraction of the data in a homologation environment"
Those words reveal the truth in our creed.
We work in the deepest of back-ends to serve the front.
No data is true. Everything can be edited.
We are Data Engineers.
And for those words to take hold, a junior must execute a leap of faith, and push a hotfix into production.5 -

The world needs to know the truth
👁️👁️👁️
🔥🔥🔥
Have to make a separate rant for this cause it deserves to be outlined and for the whole world to know the truth about my junkhole trash country Serbia (europe)
🔥🔥🔥
$1000 usd is 6 figures in my currency.
In economy schools they said
If you earn $1200/month usd in serbia you are in TOP 3% of highest earners
If you earn $2500/month usd in serbia you are in TOP 1% of highest earners
This must mean that i am now in TOP what 10% of highest earners in my country?
A bearly over 10,000$ usd a year, is TOP 10% of earners in Serbia. And i have to work 2 or perhaps 3 dev jobs as 1 person to be fortunate enough to be in those TOP 10%
And every day i keep seeing multiple 5 figure and 6 figure USD expensive cars, lambos ferraris brabus g wagons audi rs7 mercedes s class (2023) porsches, and when I say porsches people here LOVE porsches so much more than any other fucking car that porsche has became the most common car here that people drive! A used Porsche is at minimum 80,000$ usd!!! Thats 8+ years working my job, assuming im not spending 1 single cent, just to buy a used porsche, while hundreds of people drive them daily!!!!
My neighbor sold his mercedes s class and bought a GLS AMG 2023 brand new for over 225,000 fucking $!!!! Thats over 225 YEARS OF MY LIFE working this matrix job without spending a cent to buy that car. This is fucking RIDICULOUS
The world HAS to know the truth about corruption and slavery happening in Serbia. I will be the voice of truth that shall not be silenced. Anyone claiming otherwise is working for one of these corrupted shitfucks.
Incredible how corruption and unfairness sets you free out of the box than playing the matrix game. Unreal to me. I knew it was bad but i never knew it was THIS bad
If I was earning a normal wage salary i wouldnt be complaining. A normal wage salary for me is at minimum 100k a year. Or if i have to be generous then high end of 5 figures. Thats the only way to afford to buy one of these cars. Because how else do these fucking people buy them? Obviously not by working a matrix job
If you think i have unrealistic expectations then you need to unfuck your mind and realize that we are working a VERY difficult fucking job in this tech industry, SO difficult that a 100k should be the fucking minimum. Out of sheer respect towards this EXTREME HARD WORK, we DESERVE to get a high compensation in return -- not a fucking survival slavery wage salary bullshit! The moment you realize that you're underpaid if you earn less than 100k as a software engineer, is the moment you have unfucked your mind and now you have found the truth!18 -
How do you deal with those fuckers who pretends to know things but as a matter of fact they are so dumb and can't figure out basic things on their own.
Unfortunately I am working with someone like that .She is very social and talkative. Everybody has a good impression about her and thinks that she is really good at work.
Only I know the truth.4 -
There is now a new subfield in web3 called DeSci which is decentralized science of studying memecoins and how to go from rags to riches just like one guy bought a shitcoin for $27 and now he cashed out $8m a few days ago
Web3 is absolute joker clown world dystopian shithole where only the rich get richer by taking the money from poor and middle class.
But if you think about it this is exactly how the whole web2 even works! The whole world works exactly like this and web3 has just helped us amplify the gruesome truth of reality6 -
I am amazed how developers avoid to write CSS at all costs! They prefer to struggle with a CSS library than write simple CSS rules.
But the truth is that you cannot even use properly these libraries if you just don't want to understand CSS.
In the end, the result will still look horrible with an extra dependency on the list3 -
The moment of truth on wanting to be a programmer or not... Is when you learn about pointers in c language.2

Ekhem.... da money? Sure I can go on about how it changed my approach to real life problems or how it keeps my mind flexible and always learning more BUT the truth is - those are just nice things on top of being able to buy food and pay rent2

Me and my friend were having a conversation about buying a new laptop. I suggested him to go for dos based one so we could preferably install a Linux based distro, where he could save few bucks for not opting stock windows.
Then he suddenly sent me quoted statement which drew me insane, because he is a c sharp developer.
The quoted statement was
"Linux is truth, Windows is illusion"
this just drew shit out of me 😂😂😂😂. How ironic isn't it from a c sharp dev and visual studio addict 😂😂😂2 -
Tired of chasing an elusive architecture and finding good community that helps promote it. Basically:
- Not CRUD
- Not MVC
- More like CQRS; commands and queries represent use cases
- Event Sourced; event log is source of truth, everything else is a cached projection
- Functional Domain Design; not DDD; focus on immutability and simplicity
- Functional in general; less OO
- More focus on domain concepts rather than tech concepts
- Domain can be used through CLI, API, or SDK
- UI is just another client to the API
- Authorization is ABAC, graph-based access control
I'm looking for a fucking unicorn.10 -
I sometimes sit back in awe at what, no matter how much I try not to see it, is clearly a global effort to create the most FUCKED up dev experience, documentation, intionally reverse-orienteed poop-scooping, small-business-opressing, homicidal-maniac-causing sorry excuse for claiming to be a company founded on "Don't Be Evil' that the Goog Monstor has turned out to be. WE MUST REPLACE THEM OR THE WEB WILL NOT BE FREE, even worse - everything in the world will be just like their horrible emails.1

When the meeting organizer gets to the end and says "I'll give you back 20 minutes of your day". 🤬
No sir, plonking a meeting in my calendar doesn't mean you now own an hour of my day. No no no. You are not being a saint giving me back time. The truth is you just took 40 minutes of my time! 40 minutes I can't get back. It's gone. Forever.
Please be respectful of that next time you're planning a pointless meeting5 -
My company's corporate culture is so gossipy, cliquey, and backstabby. And I'm so *bad* at corporate intrigue. I feel like Rand when he gets to Cairhien in the Wheel of Time books, and all the scheming house nobles are interpreting all his words on a second, third, fourth layer of subtext and he's just all "I don't care about your stupid game I'm just telling the truth" but nobody believes him.
I guess what I'm saying is you really shouldn't have to play word games to have a chance to write and deploy decent software and maybe get a raise every once in a while.2 -
Boss calls a team leads meeting which is just me and the other guy. Rest are product or project managers.
Turns out they concerns over how our last few sprints are always left unfinished as the work in it doesn't get passed QA.
Tried to tell him how can devs work on something that failed QA on the last day of the sprint.
We have one QA person who tests 20 something devs work. We are massively under resourced and yet they want us to do everything and always end up making promises to clients that we can't keep coz our sprint doesn't have capacity.
Yet they are hiring more product managers instead of getting some more QA help.
Sick & tired of this shit. -
Shouldn't "Bing" be proud?
When people get bored of seeing actual search results in Google, just for the sake of curiosity they try Bing. Do they feel Bing is the ultimate source of truth? 🤔🙄😁4 -
Any .net devs want to give me the truth about visual studio 2017? Yes, no, wait are all acceptable answers. Thanks!3
-
Take the bitter truth @bittersweet told so sweetly.
Add this: If you want great software developers, don't put them into a dark room and teach them the theory of software development. Teach them the longing for the wide and endless space of possibilities.
> Quote after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
So basically give them practical problems which them to desire the theory. Provide an integration of open source contributions into education. Online and offline. -
Designer: The web design muset be beautiful, clean and follow modern trends.
Me: Actualy no, design should be just functional part of website. There is no need to be beautiful, clean and has nothing to do with modern graphic trends. Sad truth is almost nobody, besides css galleries, cares.

I have a strong web dev background so um doing a bit of logical programming now...
Reading those tutorial I got sooo excited because of how they always say
"Programming is when you give a computer instructions what to do and how to do it"
But the truth is Its when a computer tells you how to tell it what to do and how to tell it how to do it....
SO WHO IS CONTROLLING WHO??1 -
The problem with college is that it makes you feel like it's the be-all, end-all of learning. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you want to succeed, you must never, ever stop learning.
-
Post a rant and apologize cause he's using windows. What the heck is wrong with people here ? This trend is so annoying. Stop it you sheeps you have no reasons to love or hate any OS just following others to look cool. It's not cool unless you're in middle school. And those same guys mock apple fan boys the truth is you're no different. "Yours is shit coz mine iz z best".4

How is the weekend going?
I had a bad week,, truth be told. I was lazy . I didn't even hit the gym. Poor decision making.

Time to face the truth.
I'm being moved from one team to another. Which is great.
But the reason I'm being moved is to take over for another dev. So that dev can get a promotion. So basically I'm getting a promotion, without the pay raise.
I can't fight this either.
So I'll take this as an opportunity to get all the experience. Also begin looking around.1 -
Hello, Hi! Friendly neighbourhood noob here!
What’s he stuck on today you ask? React and Firebase!
Did he try? Yes he did! Only a little hitch this time.
Really? Little?
...It’s all relative... like the truth!
Anyway PLEASE someone look at my StackOverflow question!!
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
Firebase and react are awesome tbh. But I cant figure this out!
Thank you!! -
Morpheus: Do you want to know what is the Dark Side, Neo?
Neo swallows and nods his head.
Morpheus: Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Dark Side is. You have to see it for yourself.
Neo: How?
In Neo's right hand, Morpheus drop a red pill in his left, a blue pill.
Morpheus: If you take the red pill, you will join the Dark Side. If you take the blue one, the story will end. After this, there is no going back.
Remember that all I am offering is the truth. Nothing more.
Neo opens his mouth and swallows the red pill.
So... are you brave enough like Neo, to join the Dark Side?5 -
why they are all saying "eating c#, eating java etc" when truth is programming is the one who ate us.

Had my first ever final interview as a developer after passing the first ever coding assignment, now can't stop thinking if I should have answered the questions differently.
I was very honest to my answer when they asked "How do you test your application?" As I started building the app with 0 knowledge about software development and know nothing about software testing. So I just told them the truth that I did not do any proper test, I just used a checklist and manual test to test my app and the app that I created for the assignment was the first app that I write a proper test cases and implement an automated test. The same goes to other questions like automated deployment and OOP experience. I just told them the honest truth even though I know that they are not the best practice. Did I just f*cked up the interview??
Arghh can't stop thinking2 -
!dev just needed to rant...
Fox says their streaming Miss Universe is live from Thailand... It's 7:40PM here and it was delayed 40mins...
Google says it's 7:40AM in Thailand...
I can't tell if Fox is telling the truth or they are actually the biggest source of fake news and thinks everyone is too stupid to know11 -
mass exodus from a company but apparently nobody has the balls (or foolishness) to tell them the pay is dogshit
escapees may be operating under the model that it doesn't benefit them to tell the truth to the company
absolutely hilarious and baffling that the company feigns ignorance on this or is genuinely incompetent3 -
You go web developer when you can't handle real software development.
I don't care how pretty your website look, I don't care how many million request you can handle per second(you are probably using frameworks that happens to be the best only for 3 months, then you go another one). I don't care if we would be worse without web in general.
The basic truth stands though and you can't handle it.
And this is not even a  post.75 -
Enterprise projects can go to fucking hell. Clients are stupid ass morons. Zero fucking humanity in their money veins. OH LOOK THIS BUTTON DOESN’T WORK WITH OUR PROVIDED SOAP SHIT API. Oh really? I don’t give a flying fuck. Get that fucking soap from the ground and tell your external company to fucking start communicating like human beings. Fuck. A day will come when I will tell the fucking truth and I don’t care if that will cost me a workplace.

I thought i was being kinda layed off before my holidays. Truth is the workload is to busy right now to get rid of me. We’re 2 weeks of holidays further so things doesn’t seem as black as before but the chaos that started it all is back for sure. Ow well. Just have to learn to live with it i guess.
I did apply for functions elsewhere and already had a first interview. We’ll see how that turns out! -

I've been looking for an open source bugtracker. The Idea is to make it public and lets clients submit their tickets. I looked at redmine and truth be told: I can't do the ruby,so it dropped. Bugzilla? Well... please no. Flyspray.... well we tried but don't get along. I stuck with mantis2 because it's the only thing with eyecandy i've found even though the source is a hellish mix of 1000+ lines of wild php and html mixes. The rest either doesn't fit or looks too old. I also don't mind throwing a buck or two but i want to run it on my own server and do fancy stuff to it if i want to.4 -
Anyone else feel in hindsight, college was a huge waste of money so basically just 4yrs of partying/independence from parents?
Watched Accepted on Prime yesterday which in hindsight send to be the truth...

I majored in finance and information systems... Well the finance stuff I remember (for stock trading) I could've learned reading some books.
IS... I didn't even need to try since I started coding when I was a kid. SQL, know it already... Matlab/weka, just another language/tool.21 -
Ugh, fuck man. I had planned an extremely general function for printing a truth table for a given proposition for a course, with a little functional programming thrown in. Instead, we are just supposed to show all 2^8 possible truth tables for 3 variables. That's eight nested loops with a hardcoded string that you inject the 8 values in.
I feel so disappointed1 -
In the world is a kind of pain. A pain of seclusion and of knowing the truth that everyone shuns.
Why do these people torture me so? Where is there punishment for creating so much evil and misery.3 -
The logic in a method reflected a truth table not obvious to understand. The first time I implemented tests for coverage as I didn't trust anybody to remember and understand the logic after a few weeks.1

I'm sorry did I say something they found offensive, like the truth about their town ? or just sort of suggest it lol19

I work at a school. I saw a kid walking in my building whistling pumped up kicks the other day. Felt a lil bit uneasy to tell ye the truth. Said good morning to him and nodded in approaval to the song. Just to be on his good side in case he goes batshit crazy. Still uneasy.
-
Very tired of people that turn around to me and say “this is sales, you have to know your audience, it’s not based on truth and logic”... basically an excuse for telling outright lies and expecting me to pick up the pieces when reality bites and the lies come back to haunt them, all for the sake of “closing the deal”8

There are as many "good practices" as there are developers. Everyone holds the absolute truth. (At least it’s the feeling I get, and it drives me crazy sometimes)1

In the perfect future machines would do all the work... Everyone would have enough food, a house, a vehicle and lots of hobbies (cause there isn't work to keep us busy). In truth because machines are programmed by humans and humans are self destructive the rich will survive and live a good, work free live, the rest will live below the poverty line, scrapping anything to get something to eat... Remember Elisium?2
-
I just thought of something. People get butt-hurt when people tell the truth, which is ironically kinda what happened to me. But I’m not mad, I understand lol. Anyways, people always want you to tell the truth, but when you do, they don’t and can’t always accept it. If there were a day where people always told the truth, who knows what would happen, but it wouldn’t be good. But at the same time, people are always holding back their opinions for what? No one’s forcing you, and you don’t really have to. If you see this and there’s something you want to say, to anyone or about anything, even yourself, just go ahead and say it.14

My first words to one fresh graduate , which just started his backend path:
Untested code is a garbage waiting to be collected. Even if some companies / teams somehow manage to do miracles and to work with untested code... that's just a pre-death fantasy of a dying man. -

Its kind of funny to me that the same things that were beneficial could have been accomplished by everyone splitting duties in the less enjoyable chores around the country, fixating more on sending construction resources to maintennace, shaving away bad buildings, and waste structures, and in general just being more active and having more free time WITHOUT all the pointless hardship, and the creation of monsters.
Do they take a single thing seriously or tell the truth even once ? Or is everything about trying to get something they have no right to ? -
This program I’m writing to test a feature for my project is working and also not working at the same time and I’m pretty sure this is the only field where I can say that and it be the truth and make sense1

The boss that had a positive impact on me was the one who was honest about the realities of our workplace. To some, his talks with me might come off as gossip. There’s some truth to that, but ultimately he was just doing me a favor. I think he also just needed someone to vent to since our roles were largely isolated from other colleagues. I appreciated not having the wool pulled over my eyes. He helped me understand the politics of our industry, like salaries and promotions.

One of the truth no one wants to say because what can not be can not be.... but...
Maven is fuck... bullshit... failure by design.
For each project I need an own settings.xml. Always something not working. The same artifactory password 10 times there. Null pointer exceptions all over the place. Basics like versioning not really solved.
In all my years with Ant I never had so much problems than with Maven.
This settings.xml is really a design failure. Crap.1 -
Don't you just hate politics being spoken about in work. Many deva go to uni and get brainwashed into a left wing LOONEYS. Fed up of keeping quiet while they slagging the right wing party off!!!
Keep politics and religion out of work. You ask and preach to me ill say the truth about left wing nutters and false prophets.
But fed up being asked why I'm discriminating against people by my boss/owners.
My programming always comes into questions after politics or religion brought up. I'm sure my work was amazing before this happen
Apparently golliwog might offend the person across from me. Sorry but did he say it's offended him. NO. would he tell me like when I have before. YES. NOW WHO THE RACISTS.2 -
When somebody speaks about "rewriting everything from scratch" I always mention some famous articles claiming: "don't do it!" "big mistake".
Truth is that when somebody says "rewrite everything from scratch" he doesn't mean "everything". He just means "rewrite the 2-3 things that we found useful after 10 years of developing useless features nobody cares about"
So then, yes, rewrite, please1 -

Today our king passed away.
I had to finish my big project before the 20th, but there was no mood for doing it at all; everything feels lifeless and dark. All Thai sites were applied a css grayscale filter to show respect for his loss.
I'm not a royalist, but it feels depressing when you thought about how you would wake up the next morning, knowing he isn't there anymore. It simply was the darkest times in my life.
I spent 2 days finding the truth while Thai officials were trying to hide, and now my worst fear came true.
He was the best king I've ever had. May him finally rest in peace, back to where he belongs to. -
Back when I was starting out in a full stack role, I worked on a fairly big chunk of functionality that would trigger off a few entry points. It was wonderful for a few months. As we approached go live, our QA team started reporting weird intermittent issues. The logic wouldn't "trigger" the first time, but would on subsequent saves. Worse yet, the state required resetting of data every time we needed to test. Three weeks later, it boiled down to a 2 second time difference between the database's GETDATE() values and the new Date() object we passed in from our application.
I'll never forget that one system should be the source of truth again. -
Questions to other freelances out there.
I suppose it's a common occurrence to be involved in some project, asked to add some feature or modify something, and then looking at the source and find an unmanageable burning mess.
If upon such a discovery you decide you're not taking the job - for example, given the situation you need to charge quite a lot more and the customer cannot pay the appropriate amount - how do you go on explaining your reasons?
You just go out directly telling them about the dire situation of their codebase? Try to find a nice way of telling the truth? Make some excuse (cannot because personal reasons)?
Just curious2 -
Being a webdev has ruined my ability to use any website/online service. Does this happen to anyone else? I invariably end up sending the developer a stack of feature requests and suggestions as I'm sat there thinking "I could do this better!"
Ofc in truth I may be able to do that one part better (usually bits around making the experience as simple and fluid as possible for users), but I wouldn't be able to do other parts half as well. I wonder if I built services like that I would have some annoying git emailing me with all the things they think I've missed... ;-)1 -

I feel searching for documentation of things is getting difficult day by day. The actual documentation sites get very low page ranks and they end-up on 2nd or 3rd page of search results, while all the first page search results are links to articles filled Google Ads everywhere. If you search for say Apache Hive String Functions, you will get 10 different websites talking about Hive String functions, and the actual documentation site is on Page 2. For less popular tools, the page rank can be even lower.
On top of this, none of those 10 articles have and reference link to the actual documentation page in case you read the article and want to just quickly glance at the actual documentation which is the source of truth.4 -

Ranting (again) against the almighty marketing teams. So recently we started to build an amazing feature for our product but have been told to put the project on hold to help the "conversion team" which is focusing on trial, subscription and payment. But we are lagging behind the competitors regarding the features, for a huge price. But marketing wants that. Marketing wants an over engineered flow to be "fixed" for the 382948 time. Never had an impact on the conversation and will never have. So here is the truth : marketing stir the air because of their damn complex of inferiority and their inability to build anything.

What is software development like where you live? Would you say it's good/modern or bad/outdated?
For example, in Peru (this has a degree of truth of up to 95%):
- React isn't even a thing (nevermind RN)
- Everything uses Angular
- No Django, no Rails, no Express. Everything Laravel, CodeIgniter and .NET
- No NoSQL
- Objective-C >> Swift
- AWS? cPanel!
- No testing
Of course I focused on the "bad" part, but maybe this is what rants are for :) And I haven't said anything about salaries 😪
What about you? And please don't forget to mention your country.2 -
I was working on a bug in a parser for the response from an api which returns 'n/a' when a certain measurement isn't available. The code was "if ($value == 'n/a')" and when this was true the value was rejected (language is php).
Some of you may instantly understand the problem here. I didn't. Some of the measurements were 0 which is ok, but for some reason it didn't accept them.
Then I discovered the bitter truth:
0 == 'n/a' is true!
Apparently php tries to convert the string to a number to compare it and if it fails it returns false, so false == 0

So.
Trash
Surrounded by it
Am not it
And it accumulates
Why is telling the truth ignored ?
Why should my life be reduced to mindless repetition while they add further temptation to simply throw said trash in the dumpster ?
Nothing seems to be enough for them
One slight after another
Wtf is wrong with them ?
Blank souless husks
That's what they are and what being around them leads to people being
But hey they're "powerful' when shredding themselves in the garbage disposal and limiting the time experiences remembered or proven to have existed
Or against things exactly 3 feet in heigt
Killing them would be a mercy
Their hollow brainless minds will learn eventually2 -
I watched a movie and i forgot its name i hope if you can help find the name, the story is about a generation where a crime truth is revealed through brain, they fetch the latest event you have encountered which you have seen it's like a stored video inside the brain, the very last crime she committed was revealed from the eyes of a rat which she forgot to kill and she was caught, i believe it was a swedish or danmark movie which i watched on Netflix long time ago... anyone?9

I have no idea what is happening. literally. am i considered to be a human just because human beings decided to call humans, human being? are the words coming out of my thoughts, the real words that my human form is intending to convey? you! all of you! what is real for you? how do you define the right thing to do? Do you live your life according to your real self or according to what others expect of you? are you living your life truly? what is the truth? how can you consider a truth to be true if that truth has been made by the same creature that also had no idea of what the truth was and suddenly just came up with it? how?2

Just wasted one hour on an employer info session. Can't understand why people ask stupid questions like "how is the work life balance?". Like those chosen representatives would tell the truth. Can't understand why those new grads working at the company would want to perpetuate the stupid interview process. "We want to hear how much you resent us while doing stupid white broad interview questions." Do they stream leetcode solving process to TikTok all day for work?

Musicians are great marketers. They're compelling, emotionally intelligent, and spiritual.
What I'm trying to say is, I learned a lot of game from musicians.
Seduction..
and that'll only get you so far.
I just became aware of programming not to long ago.
I have a mentor on money real estate, seduction, fashion, marketing, but I don't know anyone who is the guro of programming and development.2 -

I think this model discounts the idea of "representations regressing to the world as ground truth" or the "world as its own best model" in research related to embodied intelligence. I just think researchers tend to overlook state-free approaches because everything is DNN now.
I can't pretend to understand everything they're talking about, and AI winter may be coming eventually, but its still well worth the read simply because of the approach they take merging neurobiology with ideas from computational intelligence.1 -
The exhilarating moment of truth, when you build your project after making huge changes during refactoring some vital component and it compiles.
I also like the feeling of creating something. You can start a new project and after a few hours work you have made a skeleton that has some functionality. Only with the power of your mind!
It's the nearest thing to magic! -
We had to choose a workshop class for middle school and I chose computing because I was already familiar with all the components, but the last year we learned QuickBasic so that's where I learned programming logic. Later in highschool we had a bit of Visual Basic and HTML. Then learned some C and Java in college.
The truth is that I never learned any language in-depth and I've been winging it with the basics for longer than I should. A good understanding of loops and control flow lets you get away with a lot of things. -
English:
"I'm a liar."
Supposing I tell the truth, I'm not a liar. But that would mean that I am a liar, since I said that I am a liar.
Assuming I did not tell the truth, I would be a liar. But since I said the truth, I would not be a liar.
If one starts from the classical logic, one can make no logical statement. If one starts from the three-valued logic, I would say that "unknown" (u, ½
Is that true, what do you mean?
Stimmt das, was meinst du?

It's been some months and I've been working with data, I'm in charge of the data migration and after 4 months into the job, they tell me that the data is sometimes transformed but they do not have a tool to validate the data, instead they do it manually.
When I said, that if we do it manually, it'll be prone to human error. My team says that humans make errors.
They're basically checking 2 rows of the database manually and then pray. That's their way of testing/validating the data.
Couple years back when I was in college, we used to talk about code quality or whatever but I don't think that's followed anywhere.
Developers are lazy. That's the fucking truth.1 -
To this day if I could do find the people who decided they'd break the rest of what is going on beyond the partial truth of people deserving punishment getting it I'd happily remove their skin a patch at a time over days if I thought our encounter wasn't a set up.
To take joy in slowly destroying not only freedom in this country but the good with the bad and all future prospects for everyone heh
And make some people look around and not even see an inkling of humanity in the gawking gabbing critters often commenting on their posts for example4 -
Our doubts and worries are not just mere ideas and visions. Sometimes our intuitions are right but we make the mistake of shoving them aside and not believing they could be true. Some spouses are really great at hiding a lot and you can never know the truth if you don’t take the first step of finding out and clearing your doubts. If you don’t find out the truth, you will keep living in deception and living in a life of fairy tale while your partner keeps outsmarting and taking advantage of you. I never had the thought of hacking my spouse’s cell phone until I stumbled on an article online about a man who gave all his love to his wife only for him to be cheated on. I developed goosebumps and decided to give it a try. I quickly searched online for a hacker and I was lucky to stumble on good recommendations about: hack4techspy @gmail com.1

Sometimes I think the my friend asked/had an idea rants are bullshit.
Maybe I just doesn't want to see the truth... Are humans really that dumb -
This generation needs another hugh Heffner and the worst garbage needs removed off the internet's
Meanwhile cleaning everything else up makes sense and organization of things to something other than "plant smelly guy who never wipes his ass library" seriously
Why are people infatuated with the underbelly of an otherwise formerly healthy society?
Make the dream the reality and the exaggeration the truth in the best ways jesus1 -
I feel like Russia is on a path to great society and civilisation like the US was on the 60s.
They are less prone to western propaganda and objective in ground truth despite what detesters in west and in here says.35 -
The Future is long in the past and it happened. Don't try to steal it any longer and listen to the truth and match it to whatever the real dates are. Far too much yet to arrive
Stop trying to shape everything into a loopty loo web of idiocy with a decade or more of pre filmed television and movies thanks much
Doesn't look like any of it was being withheld but seems like some of it was filmed far past the supposed date it was released or filmed heh3 -
Sorry for my question. But how to inform a client that they want to see the websites I've designed? That the truth is that I haven't done anything because my job is purely backend?3
