Since past two-three years, Indian Government has been organizing a Hackathon called Smart India Hackathon for college students. And Luckily our team was selected this year.
This team had 5 Electronics Student and 1 Computer Student. Guess who the Computer Student was? Yea, Me.
They Knew nothing about Android Development. And the idea was about an Android Development. I was the only person who could code.
The centre for our hackathon was Varanasi and we live in Hyderabad. So we had to go there. I have not really travelled a lot in the trains (especially not this far from Hyderabad to Varanasi ). During the whole 37 hours journey, I was not able to sleep cause I am not accustomed to sleeping on a train.
The moment we reached Varanasi the hackathon had started which was 36 hours long. Normally team members switch places so that they can sleep but not ours. Cause I was the only one coding and it had to be done in this 36 hours. So add this up 36+36 hours of no sleep, I must have rarely slept for 3-4 hours in that 72 hours.
After the hackathon, I slept like a Snorlax whereas the other went for a trip around Varanasi ('_')18 -
FUCK YOU TOO COFFEE MACHINE!

"alright, let's go to sleep"
*pulls out extension cord from monitors as I do every night*
*hears server buzzing disappearing*
😓
I entirely forgot that I connected my server which is running heavy and lengthy tasks, to that one, as well.

12yo: omg i need to wake up in 15 hours for school, i need to get to bed asap
14yo: omg only 12 hours of sleep until i need to wake up for school, i gotta go to bed
17yo: shit just 10 hours of sleep, need to go to bed rn
19: only 8 hours of sleep until i need to wake up for college, that's more than enough
20: just 5 hours of sleep until i need to wake up for college, exactly how much i need
21: 2 hours is just fine45 -
I sleepy, accessing the server in the middle of the night to resolve a problem.
Problem solved.

Lets place a SLEEP key right next to Esc.
Naturally you reach for the top left key. Ive put my PC to sleep twice accidentally16 -
Fuck stupid client.
Sorry:
Boss: client want to white label the solution.
Me: ok. They just need to create A record and send as SSL certificate and I will do it.
Client : here is your SSL certificate.
Me: spend whole night to make the transfer and setup server and check whole solutions one by one for reference to our company.
Next day wake around 2 pm to 100 whatsapp message, call from client and noss.
Turns out client IT team revoked the certificate without informing and the product stop working for all people.
Me: go to back to sleep.6 -
My roommate use torrent to download games, movies and series on an 8mb connection 24/7 even when he's sleeping. I a lot of times asked him nicely not to do that while I'm working or use speed limiter so it won't cause any problem for us, once in a while is okay but not every day. But people like him don't listen.
>Now i just disabled utorrent port associated with his IP every time he goes out or go to sleep. That what you get from being a self servings duche bag5 -
Millennials are getting right f*cked.
Low paying jobs,
Many hours of travel to work because one can't afford to live closeby,
working 10 hour a day, and
there is no hope of owning a home.
Then people say 'oh what do you do when you get home?'
Sleeeep for the limited hours left!
Then your partner says 'oh you just come home to sleep'
Then you have instagram and all these 'influencers' saying go after your dreams... while they very well know they only get paid for heavily edited images.
Wish things were better for everyone.25 -

It's been a long day and the brain is obviously the first thing to go to sleep... even when you're still awake.2 -
I have to share because I'm so confused at the moment. After troubleshooting for months trying to figure out why my laptop would randomly go into sleep mode, as I was typing. (Imagine my frustrations working on exam projects to have the screen just go black on me every 30 seconds.)
Today I found a post on the Dell forums by another person with the same problem. Apparently a magnetic closure on my bracelet triggered a sensor to think I had shut the lid on my laptop. What. The. Fuck. Guess that explains why it would only happen sometimes, as I don't wear this bracelet often 🙃🔫 definitely the funniest and weirdest problem I've ever had with a laptop.10 -
Don't you love when you spend the whole night trying to find the cause of an elusive bug, then you give up, you go to sleep, and the next morning after only 30s of looking at the code you finally find it and fix it?2
-
I just implemented parallelism in one of my major data collection tools for work, and cut the tool's run duration by 90%. That seems like as good a time as any to go to sleep.2

Me: I probably won't program today.
*go to my room lay on my bed and look at my phone *
Mhm.. *get an idea and go to my computer and begin to program*
Me: okay I'll just program for a bit.. I won't spend all day here.
*23 hours later*
Shit .. I need to sleep Dx4 -
My day.
6 am: 2yo woke up
8:30 am: start work (from home)
11 am: go get breakfast/lunch
11:30 am: work call. while driving. Learn nothing new.
12:00 noon: infuriatingly slow errand
12:30 pm: work call. Learn nothing new.
1 pm: finally get to eat. It's cold. And terrible.
6 pm: 2yo finally goes to sleep (missed nap)
9:20 pm: 2yo wakes up screaming.
9:30 pm: find 3 or 4 tablespoons of leftover tuna in the fridge. No bread.
10:45 pm: I finally finish my work (super-urgent friday-morning release of a next-Wednesday-morning deadline... Yeah idfk.)
11:29 pm: 2yo stops yelling and screaming and goes back to sleep
11:39 pm: finish writing this while in bed.
11:40 pm: Sleep?10 -

It was a cold monday evening.
I was alone in my room.
Many hours of coding had passed.
Windows offered me two options:
"Shutdown"
"Shutdown with update"
Anoyed by the update but thankful for the first option i decided to go with number one.
Windows started its shuting down process when all of a sudden...
"Please don't turn off your machine! Your updates are being konfigured!
It was that evening...
That one speciall evening...
I decided...
To finally...
Do nothing about this problem and cry myself to sleep...16 -

Oh hey i should go to sleep early and work out in the morning.
Or i could implement those new features for my library ive been thinking about.
Or i could polish up some of my older sites.

Wonder if I'll ever feel like a real programmer in web dev surrounded with C++ gurus that eat, sleep, and breathe memory allocation and optimization algorithms. I'm just over here like... You can go to this link and a pretty red box moves around on the screen27

So I was trying to go to sleep and my phone buzzed around 11:35 and it said someone commented on one of my rants so i went and read it, checked out how high my score was. Read a few rants...then a few more...wrote some comments...maybe one or two more...its almost 1am...6

Alright, feature is starting to work, let's go to bed before 2am!
Finally in bed.
"So this stuff is awesome but lets go to sleep now and work on it tomorrow...
....

....
Waaaaait, I could add this other feature but I'd be harder......."
My brain is running at full speed at 10 to 2am now 😅3 -
Not a rant, just my thoughts :)
At November and October of last year I was very frustrated with everything - everything was annoying me and I was bored even with coding. I needed a break and do something different - go somewhere.
So we decided with friends that we will go to Georgia to spent there New Year Eve. Right now I'm coming back from airport by bus to my city aftertrip but can't sleep because I'm energized as fuck! Whole week without internet (sometimes we got open wifi to check buses or maps), without local sim card, without roaming, just our group and good attitude. We visited almost whole north of Georgia riding in taxis, marshrutka, even autostop, and it was fucking awesome.
So, when you are exhausted, take a break and regenerate your baterries, work is not everything! Just wanted to share this with you :) Can't wait to go to work in monday to write some code :) Life is beautiful!
On photo - my friend takes photo of Kazbek Mountain :)4 -
I just finished setting up an instance of searx.me for the public to use.
You are free to use it at https://search.privacy-cloud.me
I can't prove it but I've disabled logging with searx and ip logging in the nginx access logs (catching ddos's another way). If you don't find that enough proof then I suggest you don't use it :)
Let's go to sleep now.13 -
For fucking once in my life I decide to go very early to bed so I can be 100% clear in my head for today's meetings. What happens is the following:
1. going to bed at 10pm.
2. Falls asleep relatively fast (yay)
3. Wakes up at 1am
4. Has a major headache and gets dizzy when I get up to go take a leak
5. Grabs a huge glass of water
6. Goes to sleep again
7. Wakes up at 3am with major headache and gets dizzy when I get up again.
8. Grabs another huge glass of water and goes back to sleep.
It's now 4:36am and I'm wide awake, with no headache, and no ability to sleep apparently. F... M... L!!!7 -
The live devRant AMA/event thingy is in a few hours I think?
Gotta go to sleep right fucking now.
Don't want to get spoiled by the rants tomorrow morning.
This means nearly a whole day of no devRant 😫.
Anyways, good luck dfox and trogus!8 -
Last month I had to go to the hospital due to gallstones gallbladder. The nurses asked me several times what was my job, and I repeated at least four of five times times that I was a web developper.
When the anesthesist came, he put the mask on my mouth and ask me AGAIN what was my job. My answer sounded like "webshpsh dechvelopscher", so he asked me to repeat because he didn't understand what I said. The nurse helped me, but said: "she is a web designer".
Problem: the anesthesist had already started to make me sleep. So I just could moan "Nooooooooo..." and had to sleep with the anesthesist thinking I was a web designer.
I don't know why, but knowing that he thought that stressed me. Am I weird?2 -
Have to get up at 4am.
I go to bed at 22pm.
Body doesn't want to sleep until 2am....
I love my body! <39 -
I have been awake for 21 hours and couldn’t sleep last night, because of long vacation and my bed time is messed up. This is my first day working after training and I got 9~10 hours to go
P.S. coffee doesn’t help4 -
- Go to sleep early
- Get up at 5-6
- Drink quality coffee
- Work at your desk not from the bed or couch
- Don't start new projects until the last one is done
- Have a good and healthy diet
- Excercise frequently
Essentially don't be like me... Be like anyone else but me and you'll do fine...15 -
Developer logic:
It's easier to stay up 'til 6am coding, than to go to sleep now and wake up at 6am...1 -
I have gotten into a bad habit of staying up late on my computer and then being too tired to go for a run in the morning.
So now my computer automatically shuts itself off at 10:00.
There’s some encouraging to go to sleep.5 -
11:45pm
I better go brush my teeth and do all my other things, to be safely and happily in bed with plenty of time to get a good night's sleep.
11:52pm
I am done doing those things. I sit back down in front of the computer to start closing apps to shut it down.
11:53pm
I get an idea to write a script to more effectively launch my remmina sessions with keywords in my keyboard launcher. It will take about ten minutes to write.
2:07am
The script is pretty much done, and I've done 37 quizzes on jetpunk. -
When I was a kid I sleep walked often ..
Once I was about 7 I sleep walked to the computer and started playing the old pinball game on XP it was 11 my mum shouted at me to go to bed so in my sleep state.. I did
Next morning I had the high score 😔 😎
My mum told me what happened in the morning - im smarter when im dreaming3 -
Ordered a new high storage dedicated server (rented online) today.
The fucker wasn't delivered as soon as I hoped so decided to finally go to bed at 2am.
Aaaaaand then, of fucking-course, I got the email with the deployment notification literally the second before I went to sleep.
No sleep yet anyways, I guess 😅8 -
Me: "I've got an exam tomorrow morning, I should try to go to sleep early tonight".
22:00 - Get into bed and put on audiobook
23:00 - "Alright I'm getting sleepy now, I should fall asleep soon :)"
00:00 - "Must be soon now"
01:00 - "Maybe in 15 minutes"
02:00 - "Still got 6 hours to sleep, plenty of time"
03:00 - "My body is tired, my mind is not"
04:00 - "RIP"
It's safe to say that my sleep rhythm is utterly fucked.14 -
Fucking bruteforce man. Was supposed to go sleep when got few messages from my gameserver players that their accounts have been hacked.
Checked their logs, all of their accounts have been accessed from Russia. Told them to change their passwords and they told me their previous passwords which were easy af to guess.
Digged deeper and found hundreds of thousands failed logins in the last few hours and all of them from different ips.
Since I cant modify gamefiles on client side, the solution for now was to disable in-game registration and force player registration through the website form with captcha and also where each players login name gets appended with a random suffix chosen by player from a random list..
Fuck you bruteforce scriptkiddies, good luck guessing accounts now. At least I can sleep now.18 -

* Watch some of those anime I never quite finished
* Read more books
* Become more proficient with rust
* Replace go with rust at work
* Setup a weeb media center I can remotely
* Finally make a personal webpage/blog without overthinking things, to actually get it done
* Find or make a storage solution for all the memes I sto- I mean collected, where I can add tags to find them more quickly. Would love to have them have the tagging be done automatically with machine learning, but I don't think we're quite there yet.2 -
My coworkers are all working remotely because they're hungover, and all shocked I'm in the office today.
You think a night of drinking and 4 hours of sleep is enough to hold me down? Please. If I'm hungover enough to not go to work it means I'm probably in the hospital lol.
That being said, I have discovered that scotch does not agree with my stomach, so I'm not having the best time. At least I'm here though!9 -
When you're ready to go to bed and you close your eyes... then you instantly figure out the simplest way to remove a nasty bug.... that person is me and now I cant sleep... xD3

I had set my phone alarm to go off at 04:00am, with a very irritating tone, to ring nonstop. Having slept late and with a project deadline fast approaching. The alarm went off OK as programmed, I got up and switched it off, and went back to sleep! Reminds me of Mr bean!5
-
Past few weeks, I have started to work late night and sleep whole day. I go to office at around 7pm and returns back next day 8-9am. I found it super productive.
But, my manager wasn't happy about it and now, she shifted daily scrum at 1 PM and emailed me to make sure I attend it daily.
Now, I have to fix my sleeping cycle... Nights are so great to work. Silent and nobody around.
Now, from tomorrow, I got a new challenge everyday to make it to scrum daily.6 -
Step 1: try a third party defragmentation tool as windows' one is shit
Step 2: go to sleep while shit is getting done
Step 3: ???
Step 4: prof- Wait what ? Fuuuuu5 -
Yesterday ... well no, today it was, I couldn't go to sleep because my brain couldn't stop thinking about solutions for this problem I had and I literally got up from bed and went to my computer to test my ideas. It still didn't work and eventually I got so tired that I went back to bed, I was still thinking about solutions when I fell asleep.12
-
I FUCKING HATE IT when you have a free day and you are so happy about it, because you can work on your projects, study things you want
BUT NOO
you sleep a little bit longer, wake up
And suddenly you find out that you need to go to the other fucking side of the city in 3 hours and spend there half of the day.
FUCK
There goes my free day...5 -
You guys ever thought about the concept that our universe might be a simulation written by some alien kid for a school project and got a C- for it?
Yeah...perhaps I should go to sleep18 -
Argh... Fuck you with a rusty pole while monkeys hanging on them. Why the fuck did you not take the extra five minutes that would have been taken to restrict that fucking datepicker to not allow users to pick a date before the current day??
Thanks to you asshole I've managed to book my accommodation from February 2nd to 4th instead of March.
Now I don't have anywhere to sleep while I must go there for the weekend because I have some course to attend to.
Abso-fucking-lutely great.7 -
Met colleague at work
Him: You programmers don't like sleeping at all. You should try to sleep and look fresh like me ... Blah blah blah... (You get the picture)
Me: *just smiles and watch him go*
(But what I really wanted to say)
Me: 'Well you know what, most programmers don't sleep much not because sleep deprivation is fun or we're in some kind of cult where it's some daily ritual. But when they need to send in an update; usually on a feature to make YOUR life easier OR just can't seem get their code to run right, and they keep telling themselves; "5 more minutes", "I have a good feeling about this modification" the minutes add up and before you realize it morning! And that's why some of us look like s*** in the morning'
(And then turn around to leave only to come back really quick like I just remembered something)
Me (again): "And don't think that we enjoy it. At least the ones I know don't. It's simply a fr****** work hazard!"5 -
1. Keep your rythm: 7/8 hours of sleep each day and DON'T take your work home. Unless you have your own business ofcourse. Still: don't wear yourself out!
2. Put on music. Me personally like fast punk when i'm struggling with a deadline. Makes you want to go faster.
3. Close ALL communication like chats, mail etc. Hell i even thought of a sign "do not disturb"
4. Coffee. Lot's of coffee
5. Use a time tracking method like pomodoro5 -
Having a 24 hour programming exam today beginning at 9 am, so I decided to go to bed at 12 so I would get 8 hours of sleep and 1 hour to get ready.
Now I've not been able to sleep for the last 3 hours and my great master plan is ruined 🙃8 -
12 days of work, 12 fucking days straight and I meet the Friday deadline for this ridiculous sprint of never ending tasks.
There’s no better feeling then bringing everything together at 5pm on Friday, pushing to Git and waking out that door knowing there’s nothing more to do until Monday’s testing!!!!
Now excuse me while I go sleep my weekend away!2 -
Time to go to bed.
Why not trying this lib ? it's not that late, let's give it a try for an hour and then --> sleep.
Woaw what, two hours passed already ? I was just still beginning to have fun ! so frustrating. Na, I could not sleep if I'm frustrated, let's dig deeper for 30min and then, go !
shit it's been an hour already, man, go to sleep now ! ...Actually it's too late already, better not sleeping and keep digging !
In the morning : can't wake up, tonight I promise, I go sleep at nine.
In the evening : oh new angular ! could worth a quick try before sleep !1 -
When it keeps happening every time but you're too lazy to fix it because you always remember it at 7am when you want to close the computer and go get some sleep...

Temperature causing temper!!!
Summer 2009...
Me: Dad, can me and sis go swim in the pool?
Dad: No son, you can only swim if it's 25°C or higher.
Which in practice meant that we could only swim a few days each summer. Average in Belgium used to be about 21°C.
Spring 2019, my younger siblings...
Little sis: Mom, can we go swim in the pool?
Mom: Lol sure, it's only April but it's already way hot enough.. and during summer it'll be too hot to do the work on setting up the pool anyway.
Winter 2029, in Antarctica...
Me, to my children: During my old days my children, we had this thing called snow!! And we lived in the wasteland that used to be the glorious Europe, back when it was still habitable.. you should've seen it, now it's a desert, but back then it was awesome!
My children: Mum!! He's acting senile again, and talking about things that don't exist!!!
Coming to the crux of the problem right now, fuck me.. I'm tired as fuck but can't sleep because already in the fucking spring, my house is too fucking hot to be able to sleep without sweating like a pig!!!
AaaaaAAAAA 😣5 -
Be careful when you go down the rabbit hole of creating custom observables (rxJS).
I wasted half a day just to find out that there are hot and cold observables and that the whole time I tried to use the wrong one.
It finally works. 01:00 in the morning.
My boss will be proud when he pulls the changes and the code looks completely fucked up (clean, well structured code, but he doesn't really know observables).
Now something different: Sleep. Cya. -
Normal people dream about shit before they go to sleep.
I, on the other hand, try to formulate a hypothesis that I'm already stuck on for 3 business days, thereby giving myself anxiety, henceforth failure to sleep.
I'm just perfect! 👌🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️29 -
This fucking professor who doesn't go to classes and demands make up classes to catch up. Like WTF, So now you are taking our precious resting time where it is the only time we get our precious sleep? Fuck off. It was not our fault that you did not show up. I get that you want to catch up but taking our rest time is not cool. You are not the only one who stress us with fucking projects and exam shits...13

Two days ago, I was solving a coding challenge on hackerank, I was so frustrated I couldn't get one year to pass, I tried c++, python, Golang, same shit, still that same test...I couldn't sleep, I close my eyes, I see this in my sleep, I go back to my keyboard, 4am, I am still on this challenge, 6am, nothing, then I decided to go have breakfast and hang out with a friend, then while hanging out he said "don't finish the pizza, that's my lunch" immediately it clicked in my head that I was missing a logic of less than zero as it was stated as a constraint, I immediately went back home and now all test cases passed....guess what, I now have malaria from not sleeping under the net 😭😭...
P.S: I am Nigerian tho, mosquitoes are a thing5 -

A mosquito got into my room the other night and feasted on my foot for 9 hours. I could hardly walk the next day, and the itching was insane. I couldn’t go to sleep the next night I was so absorbed by my fixation on finding him. Eventually I barricaded myself with blankets. The one time blankets will actually protect you.3
-
Is it just me or do you guys sometimes go like "Ah fuck it, haven't had a good night's sleep in so long, I guess I should sleep early tonight" and then you look at your watch and its already late?
God what I would give to get up early for once.7 -
Fight with something for 4-6 hours. Get pissed. Go to sleep. Solve the problem after 5 mins after waking up.1
-
Unfortunately, "developer brain" does not respond. You have the following options:
Option A
Refill coffee-mug, drink and keep on waiting for a response.
Option B
Go to sleep.1 -
Damn maintenance windows. I mean, I get that the SaaS product my boyfriend works on can't go out in the middle of the day. But he just spent weeks on a business trip, with an absolutely mad sleep schedule because he's redesigning their data center (or something. Don't ask me, it's a hardware problem...) and now he's finally coming home today and I'm super excited but all he's going to want to do this weekend is sleep. Even though I'd love to spend Sunday going to this yearly event, or finally getting another round of DnD in (everyone else in the group is available). But nope. Bloody all-hours work is taking away his (and thus my) weekend too.2
-
50 hours straight.
Attended a hackathon for 3 days and sadly when it was time to sleep the "sleeping arrangements" were already taken by some other teammates and there was no place for the rest. So me and 4 other teammates decided to work through the night and day to finish everything so we can go home and sleep.
Finish 3rd in the hackathon tho, not bad for a first time.😁3 -
Please take sleep deprivation seriously!
Take care of it and don't allow stress to take you over.
Here's a little story of what happened to me:
I've had sleep problems for all of my life, but the beginning of last summer 2018 it went too far. I turned 18 and somehow all the school, dev and personal work started to pile up, I stressed about them and started to have no sleep every other day and little sleep another. Immediately I took time off from everything for trying get better sleep.
Having no sleep means that your brain starts to run in really low gear but you might not even notice it. So I started stressing about every little detail, making ridiculous decisions and doing stuff that didn't really make any sense.
I went to a doctor and was ordered to take time off for a month or so and start medication with bunch of different pills. At the time I thought the medication could wait for a day and went to an old work friend's place for night stay to discuss about everything. That wasn't obviously the thing I should've done. I was up all of that night, he slept, and in the morning he noticed something was really a bit off about me.
We went to the hospital and I agreed for a treatment in there. They got me to sleep normally again and I rested there for a while. I went back home or actually my parents' place and the problems continued, and back to the hospital I go. This time there was no choice. After a really long while, my mind started to stabilize enough that I was allowed to return to my everyday life: enjoying my summer break. It was an awful summer. I often felt lonely and bored. But at least I slept normally.
In the fall I returned to my usual busy schedule. And life's good again. This time I will manage my stress and sleep better and take them to account when planning schedule.16 -
Woke up an hour early today.
I could get up and be at work early, so I can leave earlier to use the afternoon on this nice spring day.
Or I could go back to sleep because I'm still a little bit tired.
-> Scrolling through devRant an hour and a half. -
Me working in High Performance Computing :
CPU/GPU in full throttle ... go brrrr...
Me working on an app:
Should put sleep() in the while loop so as not to overwork the CPU
😑😑2 -
Finally finished my new app Deep Sleep Fan for iOS. Took 3x as long as I thought it would to develop even though it used a shared code base. Check it out at https://itunes.apple.com/app/...
Now I can go to bed.3 -
When you go to bed at 3:15am and think "this is fine...this is early enough. I am ok with getting 4 hours of sleep. I am okay with the events that are currently unfolding"
-
In the first few months that I took coding seriously, I used to see a feature in some android apps that I really liked and wanted to do. One night in my sleep, I don't know how, but dreamed about it's solution and how to achieve it. So I snapped out of sleep at 2 am and started working on it. I finished it at around 5 am, but I was too exited and happy to go back to sleep, so I kept adding things to it and expanding it until 8 am, when I had to go to work. And at work I had to code until 5 pm, although we had one hour for food and resting. That was the longest I coded!1
-
Just spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out why my page would raise a blob not found in the console, then finally checked the actual origin script headers and saw this, fuck.. I should go sleep.7

When you make a mistake and try to fix it, but you can't remember how to spell amend...
git commit --ammend
error: unknown command `amend'
git commit -ammend
[branch-name] mend
Huh?
git log
commit #
mend
Created a new commit with message 'mend'. Now to clean this all up and go get some sleep!2 -
I've had a pretty stressful week and I'm fairly close to burnnout.
I have Spotify running on one monitor and GitKraken (dark theme) running on the other.
A naff song begins to play on Spotify so go to open an alternative playlist.
Clicking upon any song title doesn't do anything at all.
After a couple of minutes of think WTF realized I was clicking upon commit messages in GitKraken.
I need to get some sleep. :/1 -
* You can barely keep your eyes open
* Reading rants becomes impossible
* You decide to go to sleep
Brain uses overload
* You mind is flooded with creativity
* You don't feel tired anymore
* Your phone is suddenly back in your hand
"Brain, why did you so that?"
Brain: "Because fuck you I guess. I wanna read more rants!"1 -
Who the FUCK calls to get more information about a potential employee at fucking 8:20 AM? GO RECRUIT A LIFE AND DON'T BREAK MY SLEEP YOU FUCKING VULTURE4
-
I always confuse sunday night as a weekend night and go to work on mondays with severe sleep depravation
-
I have to comment, how the fuck do you guys stay up so late and work for so long into the night? It doesn't matter how much caffeine is in my system, my productivity eventually just reaches absolute zero and I can't go on without sleep. And that's being awake for like, 18 hours. At most! I'm frankly kind of jealous.
But hey, if you are that type, just remember sleep is just as important as food and water. If you've been up more than a day, it's probably time for bed. Your brain will thank you. :) </psa>4 -
Woke up this morning to my Macbook completely drained.
Again. 😒
Turns out my USB-C cable had dislodged itself.
Again.
But what *really* pisses me off is why the fuck is my computer completely drained overnight? Did it have the screen on the whole time? I swear I've come down in the morning and the screen on my Macbook is still on. I wouldn't be surprised.
Apple is really losing their touch.1 -
It is exactly 4 in the morning and instead of sleeping i am crying so hard because the regret of going to college is eating me alive..... I feel like such a wasted fucking potential, a failure who can't provide money for my family in need because i focus studying shit i will never use for over 4 fucking years....... I can not fucking describe how much i regret going to college, i can safely say i would rather go and fucking die than go to fucking college........ Can't even sleep from this fucking bullshit i feel i am wasting my fucking life and losing my fucking mind on this.............14

I have a neighbor with a really annoying car alarm.
It went off at 2am.
It’s not the first time it’s gone off in the middle of the night (though sometimes it goes off in the middle of my work meetings; variety really is the spice of life).
I can’t go back to sleep once I’ve woken up (doing so, like, always results in getting a migraine).
I am so tired.10 -

Here comes the sleep time again. Now I will think about all the amazing stuff that I can build tomorrow and make it big out there just to wake up and do the same thing again and again till I go to sleep and repeat this cycle. Peace.
-
Last night, after reading one of my computer science textbooks, I couldn't go to sleep because I came to the realization that computers will never be able to think like humans. Because a machine does what it's told to do. It is incapable of thinking outside of the box. What will need to happen is that parts of a human or some biological organism, essentially the squishy stuff, will need to be combined with a computer.
What I mean to say is that computers are good at answering questions in an absolute way. Essentially, you give it a problem and it will click away at it until some output pops out. Yes advanced AI exists, like Alpha Go. But again it's only doing what it was programmed to do. Looking at ways to play a game and answering for that question. In this case, playing a game of Go. I'll guarantee you, that not once did it stop to ask **why** it was playing Go. It was simply__just__ playing Go. But that's it. That's the limit. We give machines data/statistics and we let me them give us an answer based off of that data or input.
This is how I imagine intelligent machines will come about. A biological brain will be combined with a machine. The brain will be doing alot of the questions, and the machine will do a lot of the calculations. Together, they'll be able to answer hard questions. The heavy calculations will be left to the machine, and the heavy thoughts will be left to the brain.
I mean technically we're already doing that. But imagine a machine/brain computer that does not sleep, can't get sidetracked and will never procrastinate. That would be a scary machine.25 -
18pm: *starting to work on own project. Listening to classical music for better concentration*
22pm: *no progress*

22:45pm: *super motivated*
2am: *same song again? Quick look on the clock...* "fuuuuuu" *apparently listened to my whole playlist. OK. Let's search for more stuff on my 2TB HDD I dedicated to death core etc*

I work 3 PM to 1 AM as a daily office job. Then go home and try to learn programming. Wake up next day at 8:30 AM for kind of another work until 1PM. Doesn't pay as much but I have to try. Then if I get free time do some freelance on UPWORK with whatever little graphic designing I know to help pay the bills.
And the fact that even my laptop is dying is a huge blow. Don't know when it might give up. Has 1st gen core i5 dual core, takes ages to load Adobe softwares. I have wanted to hulksmash this shit, but can't.
If I'm lucky, I get a stress free 6 hours of sleep a few days a month. And my depression doesn't help. More sleep should ease me a little, but I can't afford to waste any time. But this is life, isn't it.3 -
Took me an hour and a half to realize why my function wasn’t returning anything that made sense.
Forgot to put a negative sign in front of my negative bound.
Took me an additional hour and a half to solve for all the edge cases.
Relatedly, I should learn to sleep more.
Also, kind of proud of my notes application, but the tables go all funky in mobile and my CSS wizardry is .... not even amateurish.
I am so tired, I literally almost *signed* this.3 -
Lays down to go to sleep.
*beep* new urgent help request.
Hmm, bet it's something silly, better check anyway......
Whole servers down....
How fun 😔1 -
!rant
Do you also sometimes have these nights in which you don't want to sleep but instead want to learn new stuff?
Right now I have one of these nights again and I have spent the last 1:20h watching a lecture by a German professor about cryptography. Man I can't wait to leave fucking highschool behind and go to university to learn stuff I am interested in.5 -
Today is just one of those bad days where I just don't even want to be in the office (yet outside it's rainy as fuck)
Either way I gotta make this oculus go app and I have to look into the headset every like 5 minutes to test it.
Damn VR programming is just so awesome bc you can literally sleep with headset on and none will find out1 -
It's 1 AM and I've just finished deployment on production. I should go to sleep but what I do, yes scroll through devRant.6
-
my day went to shit immediately... long night, got to sleep at 4AM, poked awake at 8AM, "hey wake up we gotta go to a town 200 miles away, dress like you're rich, we gotta go find a place to live for my new job" ugh, fine, got another 30 minutes or so of sleep in the car. We get there, the guy shows us a place that I physically can't fully stand up in and is like 600-some square feet for $750/month. Fuck that. We get halfway back home, "hey i forgot, we just finished renovating a new unit, come look!" goddammit gotta go BACK to the city... get there, it's a 2-floor 1200 square foot place for $675, a hell of a lot better. We leave to go see relatives in town, get a call, "hey hurry home your grandfather's hallucinating" we get there before an ambulance (we traveled 120 miles in less time than an ambulance took to drive 50 miles...) and my grandfather's hauled (by us, as the ambulance refuses to take him to the right hospital, they want to take him OUT OF STATE in an ambulance and he's not actively dying) to the VA in the city we were just in... he's immediately screened and his dementia has progressed to the point he needs to be in a nursing home in 12 hours somehow. I have no idea either. Anyways, we're about 3/4 of the way back home and it's now 2:40AM. My dad's been driving for 18 hours pretty much straight. I'm still awake, he's wired (the worst possible state to be in while driving) and family drama has happened as family members are already trying to take the land my grandpa lived on AND HE'S LITERALLY ONLY BEEN GONE FOR 6 HOURS.
so how was your day?7 -
Friend of mine had a perfect day today:
It's 3am, you're coding hard, can't even see properly, but you know only a two or three proper lines and you are finished. A few minutes later you set your pc to hibernate because you can't go further and go to sleep.
In the morning/noon you log in, see only a mess. Half of the new variables are probably obfuscated or in some alien language because you can't read that shit and a cherry on the top - 1/4 of a _big_ test suite reports errors. What a lovely day. -
Why can't my fucking mind just calm down for even a split second? It takes me sometimes up to 2 hours to fall asleep, I can't take this shit anymore, I'm going insane.6
-
Core library was giving serious blow out of execution speed as data file size increased.
Traced it back to a GetHashCode implementation that was giving too many collisions for unequal objects, so when used as the key in a hash table it was causing the lookup to fall back to checking Equals (much slower).
Improved the GetHashCode implementation, and also precalculated it on construction (they were immutable objects), and run time went to warp speed! Was very happy with that.
Obviously put in a thread sleep to help manage expectations with the boss/clients going forwards. Can’t give those sort of gains away in one go. Sets a dangerous precedent.1 -
Fuck
I have my first ever PRESENTATION ever tomorrow
And there will be at least 40 people shit.......
I have to explain the program logic in a very easy way, which is a pain for me.
Any cheers for me?22 -
So I had been debugging this code for the past 2.5 days without much sleep and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.. Turns out I was passing the wrong variable to a method -_-
On the bright side, while debugging I was able to optimise the code and now it runs waaay faster 😎
Now, time to go into hibernation 😴1 -
So, I finally got a bicycle today. Time to start working on my health...
Am I the only one who's daily regime was:
1 - Go to work, sit around for 8 to 9 hours
2 - Come home, sit around for 8 to 9 hours
3 - Sleep for 8 hours
Goto 1?
I was surprised how the bikes these days are so incredibly light. I could lift it and keep it up no problem!10 -
People who take 2 places on a busy busride deserve to moved to the toilet.
Rude, selfless scum, go sleep with the shit of other people instead of making my life harder. I've been traveling for 16 hours. There's still 8 hours left and I would like to sleep, recharge my phone and that next to my traveling companion... But you egoistic creatures just have to be a fucking waste of space. To me you are almost the lowest trash of society.
I should simply sit down on your worthless gadgets.
I should simply smash your feet with my luggage.
I should simply remove you from the history of this planet
EAT FUCKING SHIT AND DIE
Edit: can't even do math anymore. I have 10 hours of travel left6 -
• I listen to music
• I eat/drink something
• I go to the toilet and think about unrelated stuff (which might actually provide a solution)
• I go to sleep
I try the top one first, and if it doesn't work, the next one, and so on, until I am done with the last one. -
A programmers biggest nightmare. Going to sleep and losing the workflow and ideas.
I have to go to sleep. Noooo.....2 -
I have a strict rule about putting my computer away by 7pm.
I've found that if I get started on something, no matter how stupid it is, I will stay up all night working on something. If I try to quit, I go to bed and can't sleep because I'm still thinking about it.
Setting a time gives my brain time to let go before it's time to go to bed.2 -
No, I don't want to go to sleep. I'll just rest my eyes for a moment with my hands on my keyboarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr2
-
Fucking corporate bullshit, I was coding (mostly creating bugs and pulling my hair off) all night on my free time (I'm on night shifts I keep the schedule when I have my days off) and at the moment I was making huge progress on my project, I gotta go to sleep to go back to work 4h later to follow a fucking 2h training on team efficiency and cohesion, in other words, how to waste 2h in a useless meeting and not getting it back + interrupting the only night I was in the zone, I'm so tired of this....2
-
Wow, I've got more than 10 notifs per hours during the last 16 hours. Do the DevRant community go to sleep sometimes ?4

This week's huge fuck you goes to... Drumroll please...
Slack!
You earned this prize for your stupid auto-sleep if there is no interaction for x minutes!
I don't want to install your crap software on my system, so i am forced to alt tab every 15 minutes just to press space and then delete, because God forbids i am being productive on my freaking IDE, second computer, test device and/or meeting!
Also lovely how phone notifications are not sent on mobile unless you are on sleep mode... How could I ever ask for urgent notifications if i take a small break? Oh, right! I should go to sleep mode, so people will think i didn't touch your shitware for 30 mins every fucking time i go to the toilet! :D
Please get your prize whenever possible!12 -

During Summer I'm tired because it's too hot.
Now it's getting cold, it's getting harder to get out of bed...
And the heater makes me tired too...
Plus there's the not going out or, moving as much... Which may also be due to being tired.
And well in general, I seem to not feel like doing anything lately... Because I'm tired....
Seems like my routine is consolidating to: sleep, eat, work...
And if I had a choice it would just be sleep...
I need to get out of bed now so can eat and go work..... But I don't wanna.....
Is it just me? Any tips to break the cycle?18 -
Selenium++
Woke up at 6am today and couldn't go back to sleep...
So I my Watcher app to support Selenium and provide it to all the extensions (plugins) via the common Interface.
Now I don't need to check the Anime site manually when they release movies or blurays...
And have 1 hr to eat breakfast and get some coffee as I have a release at 9... And now I'm sleepy... -
C++ developer: alright, this should finally fix it. Please just compile so I can go to sleep
GCC: I'm sorry Dave. I can't let you do that.
THEN THERES THE USUAL SEGFAULT WITH NO STACKTRACE AND I SPEND THE REST OF MY NIGHT VALGRINDING2 -
Why the hell do we always have to go into the settings to set a sleep timer in Google Play Music... Can't Google just put a button in the menu where the song is playing.....
Also you can't open the left panel from main music page coz it causes the song to change....
PS: My First Rant1 -
So you all think that coffee is the best energy brewage? I can say that it isnt! At least for me...
I ate a dark chocolate bar a.p. 10pm yesterday and i couldnt even go to sleep. In the morning i have never felt so awake before and i managed to get to the lecture not on a tram but by foot...
Also my depression is gone and i want to fix my life4 -
If I close my eyes will all the problems pleas go away?
😭
These days where you haven't slept, woke up to smartphone having seizures and work began by spawning into a combat zone.
No I wasn't ready to fight, me wants sleep.

Got let go / fired today. I was still on my probation period, but they are going to pay me out for the next 2 weeks.
My boss wasn't even in the call "because he's in a sales meeting".
You know you are being let go when you don't have access to any company passwords, and they don't assign you any new work.
Well, onto something new. But first going to relax and catch up on my sleep.2 -

Your UI doesn't render as expected...
You blame RecyclerView...
You blame ConstraintsLayout...
You even blame f**king ImageView...
Turn out the culprit was VectorDrawable...
You try to blame VectorDrawable but your inner self knows that it's your lack of proper knowledge of VectorDrawable....
You feel sad...
You push your code to git and go to sleep.1 -
I trying to stop worrying about my project at work and get some sleep.

Boubas: adjusting their sleep schedule by forcing themselves to go to bed early. Result: bouba turns all over the bed for three hours straight trying to find a comfortable position, sweats, stands up to adjust windows and AC, now it’s too cold... ends up actually falling asleep later than usual, wakes up fucked, as always.
Boubas who think they’re kikis: take melatonin pills. Result: bouba can’t sleep without their bouba pills.
Me (the kiki): wear blue light blocking glasses from five o’clock on. No blue light = no melatonin burned, go to bed at 11pm, sleep like a teen girl after a rough teen sex with her teen boyfriend.
Yes I sometimes wake up at 3am but that’s because my brain is too kiki to sleep. I feel refreshed, TOO refreshed in fact.7 -
There are a couple of things I like to do before sitting down to code for the first time on a project. Throughout all of this I'm (sometimes unconsciously) planning out the project.
- Clean the house;
- Buy groceries;
- Buy/prepare food & eat;
- Arrange everything on my desk so that everything looks slick as fuck;
- Actually sit down to do something;
- Realize it's past midnight;
- Go to sleep.
Sometimes I wonder if I have OCD...3 -
If you could have a list of ALL bugs in your system, would you want it?
Like a document of hundreds of pages filled with everything that could possibly go wrong which would include both huge missed security problems and little mistakes that will never have any impact in this universe?
I would really like to have such a list. But I think a lot of people would sleep better at night not having to worry about hundreds of small issues.5 -
I have a sleep roll and I purr like a cat when I cuddle with it up.
Go ahead, judge me, I’ll beat you to death.7 -
At 11 pm tonight, someone from my friends group made a sudden plan of travelling 60 kms away from the city at 12 midnight. They were getting hyped up so I matched their energy and said Yes I'll go.
They all said they're going to their house and get ready and meet up in half hour at 11:30 pm.
I didn't go to my home since I was already good to go so I stayed in my building's lobby.
At 11:30 pm my head started spinning and I canceled on them and came back home, because in that half hour break they were all at their homes, I got some rest and my body took that as an indicator of being ready to go to sleep.
I can't even pull a half-nighter now, I'm getting old......sigh.2 -
Looked at this and thought, wow, I must’ve gone to bed really early on Wednesday (ons)
Then I realized... all the other days were just really late and barely and sleep. Maybe try to go to bed before midnight this week...8 -
No brain. Half 11 at night is not a good time to learn a new programming language. Please be quiet so I can get some sleep and go back to working on really boring things tomorrow without being grumpy about it

Trying to sleep knowing you have at least 5 bugs to try to fix when you wake up so you go to devrant to complain about it just to go back to thinking about the bugs and not sleeping.1

I'm still a junior myself, but some fundamentals I've told my coworkers:
* Commit more, regret less
* Yes, you can remove a commit, if something goes wrong.
* No, I'll not explain again how to undo a commit you pushed typo to you feature branch. Feel the shame of pushing "Fix typo" commits
* ask, if you are stuck or unsure.
* don't do deployments at 5pm Friday. 6pm results in less crashes in production for some reason /s
* Don't be like me. Go to sleep at appropriate times2 -
My Vega56 gpu is mining a bit faster than usual after the last reset. Not by a huge amount, but a little faster. Enough for it to be noticeable.
I don't wanna touch it. I just wanna let it sit there and happily chew away those hashes.
But I will have to touch it eventually, if I wanna turn my monitor off. If I wanna go to sleep.
Doing that will trigger a restart of the miner.
And I will never know if it will have that extra lil speed bump ever again.
Why is life so cruel4 -
This feeling when you realize that better option is go to work than interrupting your sleep for the sixteenth time because your child is not sleeping at 2 am.6

A friend of mine stayed over and had to leave early. Idiotic as I am I set the alarm an hour earlier than necessary. Now that he's left there's no way I can go back to sleep again, so I've had plenty of time to track translations in p5.js, while my GF's sleeping. Aaah, aren't weekends wonderful?2

(remembered a meme)
dev: already 10pm, im gonna go to sleep (tired of solving a problem. goes to bed, cant sleep coz still thinking about the problem. an idea pops out of nowhere).
dev: this is going to be quick!( opens the laptop, still applying the idea until 6am)

Everyday I come to work. I feel miserable. Everyday write code. Fix difficult bugs. Go home dinner sleep. Tomorrow repeat.
I am reading Jia jiang's story. Mel Robbins 5 seconds. Christ grace's lectures. Still feel miserable. What is the meaning of life? All I want is to teach people code.7 -
Stayed up extra late fixing a bug. Fucking bug is buried in a thousand lines of MOTHERFUCKING SML.
FUCKING ASSHOLE SHIT-WAGGLING COCKSMEAR AND THAT SHITTY, GODDAMNED BACKWARDS FUCKING LANGUAGE!
Fucking wasted an entire night chasing down a fucking bug in SML with no positive effect.
I wound up commenting out 7/8 of the entire fucking codebase to try to find the fucking bug. No positive effect.
Finally had to go to sleep because my son was about two hours from waking up.
Getting back to work, and within twenty minutes I found the fucking bug and fixed it.
Fucking wasted nearly an entire night's sleep, and I ended up fixing the fucking bug before finishing my morning coffee.
I seriously fucking hate motherfucking SML.3 -
Lovely... About a week ago I moved my manjaro installation from bios to UEFI.
I ran a system update last night... and, well, my boot broke, cause mkinitcpio failed to build my initramfs. I was up till twelve cause now my system wouldn't mount a fat32 partition, so till I had my esp mounted and finaly fixed, it was 12. (And I wanted to go to sleep early that night)1 -

Gotta say, was a pretty weird feeling to wake up to tuesday when I went to sleep like 4 AM on monday. I slept over 20 hours. I remember waking up at one point and thinking that I'm still tired, so I'll just go back to sleep.
That was the one time when I truly 'slept a day away'. -
When I go to sleep, driving my car, or when I am distracted with some hobbies my mind give me some ideas and motivation for doing programs and games.
Then I switch on my PC and my laziness come from holidays to fuck my projects and doing anything.
Idk why.
I need help? Or my life as programmer sucks? -
when i said "can i resume my work at home?" it means "can i go home now and let me sleep? i have worked since morning until now (almost morning again) and you my dear PM stop watching youtube and start to feel my pain".
-
God fucking dammit.
I spend the entire day trying to get [this piece of shit] (https://github.com/php-ds/extension) to work and at the end of the day its tests pass, but when I try to instantiate a set, I still get bloody errors.
I mean, am I not punished enough for having no guidance in learning PHP and knowingly having to create an absolute monstrosity just because I don't know how to do it better.
Fuck it, I'm just gonna go cry myself to sleep now and only will start feeling like a failureagain, when I wake up.
sorry for bothering you with my problems.6 -
string action = day == "Monday" ? "Go to work" : "Friday" ? "Netflix & chill" : "Saturday" ? "Sleep all day" : "Sunday" ? "Get ready again for Monday" : "Code from 9-5";
I wrote nested ternary operators before and I swear I'd only use shorter conditions like the one below. 😳
string action = isTired == true ? "Get some sleep" : "Drink more coffee";5 -
2am: I can just go to bed at 4am and get 4 hours of sleep and be fine
4am: Eh, I'll just sleep at 6am and take a nap before work.
6am: Who the fuck needs sleep? That's why I bought coffee -

DISCLAIMER: don’t read before going to sleep!
~23.15 power cut, street wide. Solved by switching back plong.
23.48 : I heard multiple times a loud sound, like if someone is trying to break a window or so. So, get out of room, go to hall, light is on there. Continue, ready with phone to call 112. Reaches living, kitchen. Finds grandfather that’s fixing something.
EDIT: 00:19 The water installation started one again I felt scared....
Awesome start of the vacation lol
Maybe I should just go to sleep.
To be honest, I was really scared after that power cut that this was a real thing. Fortunately it wasn’t... That once again proves the developer life, working at night, can be hard.7 -
Go for a smoke break, sleep, or take rest of the day off depending on how "stuck" you are. Always seem to work.
-
From few months I was coding late night like 3 to 4 AM but now I can't sleep at night at all 🥺 shit man some time I just think through this and go to mountains 😞10
-
>closes laptop to let it cool down at 5:10PM
>5 minutes later, boots back up on its own and doesn't go back to sleep
>opening and logging back in
"We have an important update for you planned for 5:30PM"
OH NO YOU DON'T, you fucker!
Shit like this makes me wanna call Windows the McDonald's of operating systems.3 -
When you're trying to go to sleep, but the requested features are calling your name.
😔😟😣😫
I just wanna sleep for once!!!1 -
Had a deal with a client that i’ll make a website for him in a month because I have other jobs that i need to finish first. I called him 2 days ago i said that i’ll upload the website for confirmation of the design in a few days, he says ok. I get around to it, developed the frontend on localhost, put it on my server for him to approve and sent him the link. He said something about a specific photo not being grayscale or whatever - I don’t even have any info for the site that he sent, got confused, ok.. I go to his old website to get some information onto the new one, surprise surprise a new website that I don’t have anything to do with appeared. Wtf, check the ftp - was uploaded 5 days ago. Fml just wasted a day and got no sleep. 99.9% that i wont get paid. Bamboozled. Cant sleep, wtf4

How do you guys deal with tiredness? I mean, holy shit, I feel so fucking tired all the time that it's starting to affect me at my work! Is it because I'm in school while I work? Is it because I don't get enough sleep? All I want is this FUCKING TIREDNESS TO GO THE FUCK AWAY, HOLY SHIT!14 -

Just had a very productive night with @hahaha1234 and @jappe. Revisited a lot of code, made it simpler, faster, storage efficient and future proof. Our smart search engine is getting somewhere now. Tomorow we will be continue building ofcourse, but first: time to sleep! It is 3:45AM and after that, go running on the beach in Zandvoort.1 -
Me: why did I wake up so early in the morning? 🤔
Brain: to poop 💩
Me: damn it ok!
*just finished pooping*
Brain: hey your finished pooping, don't pretend! You're just browsing devRant. Go back to sleep! 😡
Me: oh come on man?
Me: *thinks (well I like devRant and sleep so I will sleep and dream about devRant 😂)*
Me: ok brain, I'll just wash then go back to sleep 🙃6 -
Trying to sleep. Looking at devRant. See a f ew rants about bugs which reminds me of my bug. Get out of bed and now behind my computer trying to fix the bug. Hope it's a quick one so I can go back to sleep
-
Why does my brain sabotage me? I have a weird dream that wakes me up and now I’m awake at 3am and can’t go back to sleep. I went to bed at a reasonable time because I was dead tired and this is the thanks I get?2
-
So... IT was fucking horrific. Just the sight of red and white makes my heart race. (It was a great movie though; if you're into horror I highly recommend watching it)
However, I'm afraid to go to sleep tonight so I'll probably just stay up all night coding and studying for my CSIII exam on Monday.
SERIOUS QUESTION: as developers, do you ever use base conversions or boolean algebra? I'm trying to figure out how what we're learning will actually apply to the real world.4 -
So we pushed some quick fixes management required to the system before going home to sleep. We warned them that we don’t have much time to check and test them. Because ordinarily such fixes go fine, they insisted.
What do you know, while we slept some smartasses within users drained our system money through the new hole we did not notice.
Manager responsible for this just gone dark, never ever picked up his phone. Just disappeared.
We don’t do such fixes anymore 🤗2 -
Where did we get lost in the war against fuel guzzling cars and pollution to where now people are just paid to drive around endlessly who don’t even enjoy driving around ? Where did all these efforts go ?
I blame all levels of industry for making a good paying job mean no family no exercise no public transportation no sleep no travel13 -
The past few days I didn't drink much water. So today I am dehydrated and focus is basically non-existent.
Downed three glasses of water and one sugary drink, still can't understand what's happening around me. Gah!
In the meantime, trying to understand math papers. This is fun! **says while head is spinning and has a slight fever**
I'mma go home and sleep. 🛌10 -
I'm wondering if the computer let me win...
Up to now it was ahead and got me on the ropes... Granted I haven't played an actual Go game in years...
But then somehow it made a mistake? here... A 100 point game turning mistake... which I don't notice until 30+ moves later
Maybe I should just goto sleep.... It's actually 2:30am here...3 -
Was just (once again) nearly run over on a pedestrian crossing. This time by an angry-looking old fart in his pick-up. He probably didn't even see me, and he didn't react in any way when I swinged my fist at him and yelled "Maniac!". These angry-looking old farts in their pick-ups are far too common a sight in this country. Those old dung heads drive in their sleep, not seeing anything, not hearing anything and not caring shit about anything. Stop driving already, go to a retirement home and stay there!3

Freaking out!!! I am trying to stuff as many AP courses as I can into my schedule. I can handle it but I can't take everything I want!! I also have to make some great projects so that I can put it on my github and feel like a Real Dev, and I have to study for my SATs. And then I have to apply to college. In 2.5 years.
Yay!! Which means I have to go to sleep at 12 wake up at 4(Which for dev standards is a lot of sleep). Which means I have to zombie through school. Going to be a great 3 years folks.20 -
Cognitive overload: the silent slayer of developers.
Especially when you're bad at assessing your own capabilities and choose to sacrifice sleep without concern for taking actual time to enjoy the silence and tranquility of.. nothing.
Sometimes it's pretty hard to not go mad when those old gods whisper your demise. -
So basically im here starting my week, with a hangover that I don't know why I have it, and wanting to go to sleep, so how's you're monday4

There's a big emphasis in our community on long nights and working all hours. Don't feel like less of a developer; if you need sleep go to sleep.
Take a shower, eat something, take care of yourself. Your bugs will still be there.1 -
So I'm bouncing between projects.at the moment and trying to get SDLTTF working and yeah, going well.
On that note. I think it's sleep time, 5 hours till I have to go pick up my series x .-.2 -
My Dad wakes up at 4AM catches me in front of my Pentium 4 PC writing a scripting text editor and yells at me to shut down that crappy machine and go to sleep. 10 years ago🙄

When you get to your projects and then you go to bed pretty late, just to realize how many hours of sleep you'll get.. :/
-
Anyone of you have any idea how to go sleep earlier? I was on sick leave for a week and usually watched movies or coded something to 6AM and now just lay on the bed for 3-4 hours each day and try to sleep. It ends up going to sleep at 4AM and being zombie at work.4
-
my neighbor decided to breakdown all walls in their apartment. Like, seriously, all of them, so I've gotta hear hardcore construction sounds from 8am till 5pm, everyday...
So now I'm waking up at 4pm and going to bed 7am. That way, since I can sleep thru a zombie apocalypse itself, I avoid that torture.
I'm not someone who holds grudges, but I am leaving a speaker blasting whitenoise during my sleep time. That way, I can make sure the motherfuckers go thru at least some of the discomforts I'm went before I managed to go nocturnal2 -
I'm tired but I don't want to go to sleep because I'm working on a pretty complex algorithm and, even though I'm writing the cleanest code I can with lots of comments, I feel it's going to be a pain in the butt to understand what's going on tomorrow

It's 1:22 am, and what am I doing? Rewriting my Smite Team Generator as a standalone Java library. I have plans on completely revamping how the Android front-end for it works as well. I really wish I didn't have the desire to do this right now so I could go to sleep.2

Stuck in writing some e2e tests for 15 hrs. Decided to say fuck it and go to bed only to wake up and solve the problem in 15 mins. Again sleep is the best debugger man 15 hrs is alot of hours staring at a damn screen.2

Yeah ok. I went to bed extra early yesterday but i kept waking up at night and now i am tired anyways but thats ok. i have to go to work now but thats good. yeah this is great. now when the sun is up and i have to go to work, my body feels like it could sleep 10 hours straight but hey, i think this is just what i need right now before work.

- Seriously, I should do some work in my senior project.

When it's 2:45am and you've just finished rewriting a large piece of your code and all your tests pass. A normal person would probably be asleep already. A sane person would go to sleep.
What would you call a person who stays up at this hour just because he likes the tunes a bit too much? :)

just some good tunes and all the green tests.... :dance:5 -
It's 2 AM, and I need to get to sleep.
I am not wanting to compile OpenCL for my Pi in the hopes that it helps this go any faster, but I also don't want to waist my time waiting for this to go.
My current dilemma.1 -
Some days I hate my work - other days I love it. Usually what happens is I make some poor decision that I have to live with and get super angry with myself, feel my colleagues are disappointed, go home, feel sad, sleep, go back, talk to them about it and try to learn from my mistakes - and then I'm back at loving work. Repeat. Software development is so much more than writing code.
-
Go to sleep, you don't need to be half an hour looking for the cause of the bug that ended up being a typo.3
-
For some reason I now wake up at 6am every day...
But after like an hour in bed reading emails/news, I feel tired and then go back to sleep till 9am...
Anyone else waking up early since wfh?4 -
Cause when you die or exit from process it doesn’t matter how it happened, was it kill -9, sigkill or sigterm. As long as you go to hell / heaven / you name it and not to /dev/null you can still try to segfault the universe. Just give me the code !!!
And it aligns well with depression, alcoholism and lack of sleep. -
Fuck my sleep habits. Why I cant go to sleep like normal human instead in 7 AM? What kind of monster am I? Should I switch to Insomnia instead of Postman? Is that what life is trying to say to me?
Have a great Monday everyone.3 -
When you gotta sleep rn to wake up for college tomorrow but you've got a competitive programming problem stuck in your mind that just refuse to go away.
Someone sing me a fucking lullaby pls...3 -
Need to use new module or pattern:
1. Read the online documentation
2. Have no fu*kin clue what I just read
3. Try for 2 hours and fail.
4. Go home and sleep
5. Wake up at 3am from a fever dream with the solution to the problem
6. Go to work and implement it in 10 min
I guess I learn when I sleep -
I hate it when I go to bed early to sleep early but can't sleep a blink for some unknown reason & I just move left & right hoping to fall asleep any minute but end up not being able to sleep at all the whole night :(
whyyyyyy? why cant humans sleep within seconds like a computer???? :(4 -
My body decided to work against me
Last 3 days my “sleep schedule” has been “stay in bed with eyes closed until it’s morning without falling asleep”
If I go insane please tell my dog she was adopted. Ah… insanity is starting to kick in, next steps I’m defending pascal and managers…2 -

Another day, another comment that just wont fucking post.
On Camping:
Rain IS camping weather.
All miserable weather is camping weather.
The function of camping is to remind you how great it is that you get to go home when you're done, and sleep in a warm, dry, comfy bed and not a canvas roof that leaks in the wrong place in a poorly insulated napsack on uneven ground while sleeping with thin canvas walls, on the ground, like a living human size lump of jerky for a hungry bear to wander by and gobble up.
Also waking up in the morning after being cold and miserable is amazing, because your body forcibly readjusts it's expectation of 'comfortable' just to fall asleep, and you just want to go back to bed instead of going into the cold and being awake where you have to experience the cramp in your neck you had from trying to get to sleep in an awkward attempt to get comfortable.
And after that, you cook bacon on the fire and drink black coffee, and feel like KING of the homeless people. King for a day.
And then you go home and THANK SWEET MARY'S TITTIES you do.3 -
Wanted to remind you Americans that it's too late to start on a new feature, function, or debug. Go to sleep after leaving yourself some notes. You'll be better off in the morning.3
-
My dilemna right now is whether should I:
- test the new idea to see if it works so I can go to sleep in peace
- or not test the new idea before I go to sleep so maybe I can sleep in peace. Just not at peace with myself.2 -
Whenever there's an annoying bug that refuses to go no matter what I do, I just go to sleep. Sleep is the best debugger.
-
Peace and quiet.
I'll play some smooth jazz or light classical, sit in my beanbag chair by the window, and take a 30 minute nap.
When I'm done, either the problem isn't a problem anymore or I have figured out a solution to my problem in my sleep.
This is something pretty new to me since wfh started and is one of the many of reasons why I will never go back.4 -

Couldn't sleep, so I went to read some blogs about CS (go figure). Found this wonderful repo

Hmmm.. Google Pixel battery just died in a split second from like 50%. On one hand, im concerned about what just happened. On the other hand I hope it happens again so I can sleep in and go to work late without the associated guilt 😉2

my sleep issues are getting out of hand. i have insomnia and sleep apnea, and materials for my APAP are expensive and nothing that won't fuck up my brain over time (i.e. any sleep aid that isn't melatonin, pretty much all of them make you lose brain matter density over time, and melatonin does jack shit) is strong enough to knock me out. at this point i'm getting one 5AM-4PM sleep cycle a week. i can't exactly fix it as i'm expected to be awake and present during the day, so i'm stuck sucking down caffeine all week during the day to try and be awake for 8 hours. i'm not even employed, so it's sitting and doing fuck all during that time.
goddammit why do i have to go through this shit8 -
Dealing with relationships when you are a night owl. I don't burn the midnight oil like in my twenties but I don't want to go to sleep at 1030pm. Midnight is typical but I feel my actions affect my missus as she can't sleep when I'm not there...that said..she has issues sleeping anyway or nodding off. Whereas I can fall asleep in front a TV that's on no problems or whenever my head hits a pillow. I sleep on the couch when I stay up so I don't disturb her. Or does everyone here have a cushy work life balance job where you only work 9 to 5 and don't need to be on the pc.
-
Me: OK (I have a test on a couple days from now, I have to study)/(it's 3am I have to get up at 9am - I try to have a good sleep schedule OK)/(I need to get up and get ready to go to uni)/(some other thing I should be doing). I'm just gonna check devRant real quick.
//30' later: still on devRant
Me: Goddamn it not again -
Mom: That means you'll be wasting electricity like crazy.
Me: maybe, I have to.
Mom: Please go to sleep and turn of that pc! You won't let me sleep.
Me: Mom is part of my job.
Mom: At least you know how to hack FB right?
Me: Yes mom, "Yes I can" -
For solving a problem I document everything. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, I want to have written out the problem in full and everything I have tried to get to a solution. I can then share this info with people around me which expedites the process and gives me new ideas I didn't have before. When I really hit a wall the goal for me is keeping myself DRY and knowing what I've tried and haven't tried.1

I was changing the PEI sheet on my 3D Printer and in the process I manged to also destroy the temperature sensor😭.
I was trying to order a new one and internet went down too. I also have school tomorrow so I need to go to sleep.
😣I need the printer for a thing I have to deliver in 5 days.
Guess I'll have to take the sensor from another bed (hopefully without destroying this one too).

Yesterday, I performed an experiment on myself.
I have heard pretty much that a cup of strong black coffee at night keeps you awake the entire night. Newbie here when it comes to staying up all night ( I mean I stay up late but never all night) so I decided to give it a go.
I'm unsure about the results though.
First off, how strong is a strong coffee? One teaspoon coffee per cup? Am I allowed to add a teaspoon of sugar?
Next, I think it kinda also have to do with me. I mean, I have heard it doesn't give me sleep so my personal bias affected it. I wanted it to be true. To be a life hack for that huge ass paper due by tomorrow.
Maybe it does work. At around 4 in the morning I was too tired with the shit I was doing so I decided to finally lay down. I recall this brief moment when I was in my bed all ready to sleep and the sleep wouldn't come. Maybe that's the coffee working. But again, it could just be normal.
Does it not work? If it does, how do I make it work? 😣9 -
I saved myself headaches and whenever some one talks about this thing, I leave ...

Looking at the "ideally you should" sections doesn't make me feel this is a junior position:
You are passionate about making data useful to the lay-person, there is no data you couldn’t derive visual meaning from. D3.js is your go to and Canvas is your friend.
You build components in your sleep, rock solid and performant using atomic design patterns.
You bend CSS processors to your will or throw them out and code by hand.1 -
Oouh night, why u go so fast? I have to note all that ideas u fucking gave to me of that stupid 700 lines algorithm's issue. Be nice just fucking once or just pass it to day and let me fucking sleep!

I'm not a coffee person. I can drink it and go to sleep :)
For me it's Pepsi. Fast shugar for energy, I guess. Strong green tea on 2nd place.3 -
I'm so scared that if I fall asleep then I'll wake up and it'll be tomorrow and I'll have to go in and get asked questions all day at 10minute intervals instead of being able to code that I'm putting off going to sleep so I have longer to adjust to this horrible fate

Does this happen to you guys too?
Yesterday I was coding auth for node.js with help of tutorial (I'm pretty new to node.js). I was pretty sure that I understood how it works and I turned off my computer. Then when I was in bed ready to go to sleep I tried to go through the code in my head, but I completely forgot everything I wrote. I guess I was just copying the code without even noticing I didn't know how it works. Now I'm trying to learn it once more. -

How do you tell a senior that I don't want to be buddy-buddy with him outside of work?
He keeps trying to befriended me, inviting me to his house along with his friends. I don't think he's romantically interested in me, he's married, he's just too extroverted, has huge social circle.
Being a chronically introvert, I just want to go home and sleep after work. It's enough having him breathing down my neck for 5 days/week, don't want to see his messages during the weekend.
I have to keep the relationship cordial and polite though as my job satisfaction depends on that.6 -

When I wake up from a full 7 hours of sleep, have Yerba mate ready to go, and have something mildly interesting to work on. Also bonus good mood if my wife and kid aren’t going to be home for the morning. Love seeing them, but hate hearing them while I try to work from home.2

My motto in life is: when you're not interacting with me, you'll never see my beautiful children.
I give up on this thing, I can't go to sleep now because the moon's about to hit, I don't want to waste anymore sleep than when the moon sets. -
Bought a Chromecast audio so I can get sound in my bedroom instead of blasting it from the living room where my computer is (I put music from my PC on timer when I go to sleep). Since I still use Winamp 2 had to install an app to send my Windows audio to Chromecast. It works. Already programmed a remote from my phone to turn off the lights, monitor and set the timer... Now I'm too lazy to program a remote for Winamp which I just know I'm gonna regret not doing at some point...

Rant/ Question.
I've lost count how many times windows has decided to wake itself up from sleep mode to update. Sometimes it doesn't even update, I will be laying in bed and it will turn on, I will then have to sit up for half an hour waiting for it to finish (otherwise my pc will just be on all night) then when it is finally done, I will get up and go to turn it off and it says "Turn off and update" and need to update again.
To make it worse, it restarts itself while updating, so all the stuff I wanted to keep open by putting it in sleep mode will be gone.
Is there any way to prevent windows from doing this update during sleep mode? If not I am going to need to completely turn off my PCs power when it is in sleep mode, which it just a pain for me.1 -
I'm about to give up on chrome canary on my Mac. Opens up tonnes of empty tabs (sometimes over 30) when I put the OS to sleep and fire it up later. It's slow and sometimes I have to refresh pages for the page to display correctly. Gonna go with Firefox for now.1

When you go to sleep after a git push and wakes up next day to find out it asking for your credentials!

Test your code. Take extra time to do self-review. It'll improve your code quality and position within your peers.
When you enter that "minor change-trial-error" phase. Go to sleep or take a long break. You're loosing time and adding more work to be reviewed and corrected later -
When I go to sleep nowadays, I leave both my laptop and my phone charging in the other room. Now, my bedside doesn't even have a power strip nearby.
Yes, I go to bed without my devices. Crazy!

I have a conference talk tomorrow I and want to show a sample project.
Well... it's not ready. Should I go to sleep and pick a random off the internet or pull an all-nighter?7 -
Fucking spent a full day fixing a very big issue.
Very happy to have found a solution.
Time to pack my shit up and go home.
Realize that I didn't git pull.
Seems like I fixed that bitch issue last night when I couldn't sleep.
Since I did not sleep I might have been too tired to recall that.
🤔 Guess I'll kms -

Learning and working on a project built with purescript (fp).
Wrapping up my brain to think functionally and understanding it to implement is like rewiring my brain. I sometimes have to literally sleep on it, only to go through the concepts again the next day to get a little more insight than the day before 😝
Functional concepts are abstract af, but it sure does give you wings to liberate you from conventional way of things. -
This semester I'm taking a class in my university about Cloud computing. You know, how to use the cloud better, when to use it, and we are using AWS in the class. That mother fucking class takes a lot of my time, I couldn't sleep for 2 nights in a row doing homework, and now EVERY TIME I go to YouTube to chill and see a video I GET A UDEMY AD TO LEARN AWS. WHY??3

Our Jira does reindexing every night. At that time no issues could be created or resolved.
It just tells us to go to sleep in its own weird way. -

my sleep schedule is spectacularly fucked. i go home from school, fall asleep, wake up at 1 AM to try and work on my various web app projects, stay up until time for school the next day. this fucked up schedule has decreased my productivity a lot and i have done nothing to fix it. i feel like in the future when being productive actually matters this will be a huge set back for me. any idea how i can fix this?2

they say go back to school...
well I did, the same one ( only by name ) and I remembered how good it is to sleep there ;) -
My dream is that by the time you're 40 you could drift into the eternal sleep. I haven't yet, but the only thing I know is that you're going to go away. I know how people feel, and I want it all to go away forever.1

How do all you other devs deal with sleep? Because I am losing my fucking mind I work for myself so I don't go to work at 9am leave at 6pm.
I normally work until 6am and then sleep till 12 drink 3 strong coffee to start functioning again try and do something productive which at the moment involves catching up on the NBA playoffs and then starting work at 6pm.
Due to resent baby I thought shit my life is fucked I haven't left the house in 3 days I need structure routine I need to work 9am to 6pm become human again but I just can't FUCKING sleep it's now 1:30am and I'm trying to sleep.
I know what your thinking why are you on devRant but I've been trying to sleep for the past 3 hours but all I can think about is work code, refactoring, new languages, security, support shit that can wait but I can't get it out my head, keep thinking "ah your not tired you could work", and YES I have a list which get bigger every day wish I had a drug dealer or was still in contact with my old mates so I could get some Valium but it's hot milk and sleeping tablets for me, life is so much easier when you can just fuck of home at the end of the day and forget about work, not having your laptop next to you trying to trick you into opening it. How do other people who work for theirselves deal with the life work balance?4
