Do you people know that problem, where you sit down and code for 20 minutes, and suddenly it's 4 hours later?24
-
Google searching should be a school subject. There is so much people that dont know how to use it13

You know what I hate? When people don't listen to me.
You know what I love? When shit blows up in their faces because they didn't listen to me8 -
I'm creating a website and I'm thinking: Wow, I use html, css, javacript and python, I'm awesome! Then I see what other people know: shit, I'm not awesome...
Programmer: the more you know, the more modest you become...8 -
I got two motivations to improve myself
1. To earn more
2. To distance myself from stupid people who don't know what they are doing13 -

What people say : My computer is a mess and it works damn slow.
What I hear : I don't know fuck about using a computer2 -
Confession.
I am sorry.
I don't know if I am doing the right or the wrong thing.
I never shared devRant with people I know because of three things.
1. I don't want to infect this community with cancerous people.
2. I only have a few friends.
3. People I know have no interest in programming (still in college).16 -
When a company emails 8000 + employees asking 3 people not to be disturbed in DevOps for 3 weeks. You know those 3 people have been screwed over by unrealistic deadlines.6
-
My VS Code extension just got 100 downloads! It just makes me so happy to know that people like what I've made. ☺️3

The amount of rants on here I see of 'Devs' complaining that other non-tech people aren't knowledgable/ can't understand 'simple' explanations / etc and are mean, or even cruel to those non-techy people is alarming.
Just because you've spent a lot of time on something youre interested in, doesn't mean:
A. Everyone else is interested in it.
B. Everyone knows everything about it.
These 'Devs' are the reason most Universities require mandatory social classes so they can make sure you can talk to people in a nice manner and get your point across.
Majority of the time I need to explain a concept I find simple or I know to someone, I try to find an analogy about something both parties know. I know that pulling the documentation information and giving to them will just result in more questions and they won't understand.
You just gotta know how to talk to people without getting angry at them for being who they are, human.
String TLDR = "Don't be a dick because someone doesn't know something you do"10 -
Whats so nice about devrant is that you see more or less the same people from time to time everywhere.
In comments, notifications, rants, all that.
It's like a party full of nerds like you where it's actually fun to get to know people.:D12 -
For all those who hard coded 2017 in their code don't forget to update it 😋
PS. I actually know people who have6 -
I think I just completely ruined the day of a guy I know.
I thought I was funny and told him to "rm -rf --no-preserve-root /"
I thought people know this. Fml. I am so sorry7 -
You know that scene in IT Crowd where they thank everyone else but the IT people ... It's as true today as it was then3

Yes! finally 4588 people got fed. I am targeting 10k of people. Get free food from my food bank. Previously people dont know where to get it , now they know it from my platform.
It is so satisfying to see people help the needy get food and groceries.
All of us can do this, as Malaysian government fuck themselves, the rest of us citizens can help each other...4 -
People, please understand
1GB != 1024MB
1GB == 1000MB
1GiB != 1024MB
1GiB == 1024MiB
The MebiByte, GibiByte, KibiByte and others "biByte"s were defined at the end of XX century. How can be possible that people (I mean people which study/teach informatics, electronics or something similar) still don't know what is it?16 -
Let us celebrate #SuicidePreventionDay
People should know that developers has been supporting this for ages -
Do you ever feel like devs are the last people to know requirement changes, design changes, etc? And yet are the people who actually have to make the thing and ship it on time...

Off to an interview with a design agency I didn't apply because of people who I don't know referred me.
Wish me good luck!3 -
Some people, when confronted with a problem, think: "I know, I'll use multithreading".

I now know why people don't write tests.
Been trying to get started with React unit tests for weeks now.
Hope Driven Development FTW.9 -
Being on devRant genuinely scares me. I mean, I know C#, Entity Framework, basic SQL, basic HTML (who doesn't?) and some Angular, but most people here know so,so much more. Maker me feel quite dumb :/22

Why is it that people that can't program always seem to think they know how long it should take you?5

DevRant is the best. I just gave Imgur another try. It still makes me depressed and loose faith in humanity. All those stupid people. DevRant is much better. Here we have smart people that know how to approach problems and understand jokes.8

Yeah GDPR emails are annoying, but you know what's worse? People complaining about GDPR emails!
And you know what's worse than that?

LinkedIn feels like:
- be bombarded with recruiters messaging you
- people you don't know bragging about joining a company
- more people you don't know sharing useless advice for tons of corporate crap
Is just me or anyone feels the same?13 -
People who know basics of HTML, CSS and start searching for the web developer Jobs are the same people who buys a pencil and assumes that he is an artist 😀12

Our clients don't know anything about development. Our account manager doesn't know anything about development. For people who don't know a lot about development, the word "script" gets thrown around WAY too much. It makes me cringe.4

Well, I guess all the Linux folks are going to know what I am talking about. Do you know this feeling (Yes, you know. Don't tell me anything.) when you use Linux and nobody else uses Linux in your Work/School. And these people come to you and say.
Stupid people : Oh! You use Linux. That's bullshit!
Me : No it's not. It doesn't do 24/7 updates like Windows.
Stupid people : No, Linux is bullshit you don't have money for Windows. And Linux can't run professional Applications.
Unfortunately there is no medicine that cures dumbness. Just saying ...
I'd rather stay not dumb like these people instead of buying another Windows license.24 -

Me: I don't know why people hate CSS so much. It works fine for me 😑
Inner me: Liar, Liar, Pants on fire 🔥 😂7 -
Why don't people like Java? With only a year of AP comp sci for experience, I don't know enough about it to say I do or don't like it. But it's widely used, and is an official language of Android. Are the people hating on Java just people that don't use it? Or is there something about Java that people just genuinely despise?35

I seriously don't know why some people still using Google Drive, DropBox. Pied Piper is much better

Thank god, government people know 'C' 😀3 -
You know what irks me is whenever people ask me how to do something without Googling it first.
Like ffs whenever I Google the same issue because I don't know the answer either, it's literally the first fucking result. Like damn bruh.
I don't mind helping people at all, but please at least try to be an adult and Google the fucking question first.13 -
People know that things are getting serious when you open up a new twitter account for your personal project.4

I was drunk at a party and so was this guy, that I knew from scouting and who knew that I was capable of programming, even tho he very clearly disagreed with my choice in language.
We started talking about this new system that we (all scouts in Denmark) have to use and he told me how his work was affected by the fact that this systems API is the purest of shit.
He told me that he would really like someone to help him with his work, cause right now he was alone. They were looking for someone new, but for some reason the boss wanted a new guy to have 5 years of experience in Java... Which they don't use.
So he got my information and would put in a good word for me -
It will never stop happening... people who don't know shit about code, assuming some conclusion and giving their opinions on software.3
-
SSH is the most basic thing a web developer should know.
Some people are just lazy to learn something and all they do is give hard time to other people.2 -
"I'm not very smart with computers"
Why do people say that? Obviously you may not know 100% of what you can do with a computer, but NO ONE does! I get that some people know slightly more than others, but it all comes down to how much time you put into learning it!
And how do you even respond to that? "I know, I'm dumb." You can't ignore it or affirm it, you just have to awkwardly acknowledge and then change the subject. Ugh...4 -

Don't trust people. Especially if they say: "No Problem, I'll invest enough time to make x happen"
But in general. Don't trust people until you know them very well. -
Professor: "I've been using java for many, many years and know close to everything."
Student: "How do I compile my code on the unix server?"
Professor: "uhh.... I don't know."
Let's start hiring people who actually know what they're doing.1 -
I hate when people make posts and use emojis that my phone doesn't know about.
I'm looking at people like you @varEnigmatic.1 -
Algo strikes very often or people just continue to repost the same things... maybe I know the answer. 🤔2

I am so fucking sick of people being such shits to people who don't know things. Ignorance is not a sin.3

When people give a bad review on your app because they dont know how to use it, they dont know what it is, and they don't bother reading the description.1
-
I hate when people ask you to find their deleted files. Fucking people! It is like asking an architech to recover something from their trash bin. People are idiots that don't want to learn. Some people think that they know a lot of computing and barely can power on they monitors. At this level of average stupidity, people should get licenses to use computers.7
-
Ya know what I hate? People who always find an excuse to let people know about their problems or if they are vegan.
Every time I'm like, THANKS! DIDN'T ASK!4 -
People who tell me they hate PHP, though when I ask said person whether he's used PHP all he can answer is "maybe once".
Don't hate on a language if you have barely even used it3 -
Meetings. I don't know how management people get anything done, but the time I spend in meetings counts completely opposite, in terms of productivity.

When a marketing / sales person says in a meeting with executives that our current infrastructure can handle 300.000 new customers easily. (We're at 90 ATM).

There are 3 type of people.

I wonder sometimes whether people in Silicon Valley know how the rest of the world thinks about and acts on technology. I mean, I know they do to a degree, but is there anyone else besides me that thinks it’s kind of an “ivory tower” existence over there, with people chasing the latest shiny thing regardless of if people want or need it?20
-
Tell people you know how to code - they always have nice ideas for "new and innovative" apps and want you to code for them ;D3

When you have to lock down #general in #slack because people cant be responsible.
Then get stuck making #bs-general and other #bs prefixed channels so that people know if they join them they will be annoyed.4 -
So after joining devRant I discovered that some people have an issue with people touching "their code"...
This hasn't been a problem anywhere I've ever worked, with any person (that I know of).
Is this a vocal minority, or have I somehow avoided this subset of people through sheer luck?5 -
I started turning up here cause I find it very relieving to rant about my problems and know that people are indeed listening. bless y’all.

When your Boss openly refers to projects as Micro-sites to the client, devaluing the scope of work, and being completely unaware of the actual scope of work, which is essentially a twitch platform, to be built on wordpress, with integration to Power Point Dock, and a live chat queue5

So if anyone has visited slant.co they will know the website is overrun with this shit...
What the flying fuck is wrong with these people?21 -

Starting out as a developer: I don't know why people are so stingy about tags on Stack overflow
Now: This guy tagged this question with SQL Server but is asking about Postgres I don't know how to help this guy out2 -
I visit devrant to be more clever in life. Sad. I know. And I know 99.9 percent of the people I know won't care.1

it kills when people say dual boot Linux with Windows. I know how painful it is. as people who like to install Linux just pray why doesn't Linux supports it all. because all they want to do is use Linux full time. 😑😖😭8

Hacktoberfest has started today.
If you have an open source project label your issues with "devRant" or link your project here. This way people new to open source projects can help in a project by people they know.

Giving up expectations of people.
People don't know what the fuck they want, so what made me think they could actually deliver anything? Idk, but it doesn't matter now, my life has been easier since I stopped caring.1 -
Project name - "JIRA 2.0"
Description - JIRA seems to not be informing people in our company about much of anything right now. Engineers don't know how to find anything. PMs don't know when things are shipping.
Me: JIRA, you had 1 job!1 -
I am working on a project which I want to make open source. The problem is, I have never launched any open source project and I do not know any platform to reach people (I am not talking about hosting the project, I am talking about making people know, use and take part in the project). I believe this project will help a lot of people who works on IoT, chat services or distributed real time servers.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.8 -
People who dont know shit about technology and dont know how much work is required to make a product are commenting on how software should be made. (Pure management background people not even senior level).
- PS. Im fine with management people with tech background.2 -
Been watching some videos on Algorithms and my mind bleeds. Do people who know this stuff really calculate complexities for each method they write?6

Why the hell people add me on LinkedIn for like no reason? Why do people do that?
I mean, "John Doe wants to connect". Ok, let's see, maybe I know him... "John Doe, Chemical Engineer living in Argentina"
WTH man? I don't know you, I don't work with chemicals, I don't live near Argentina, and we do not have anyone in common!
Unless you're a recruiter; if I don't know you and you don't specify why you wanna connect with me, I'll ignore your request.1 -
I know a lot of people disagree with modern art, but fuck me, at least we got away from this ugly shit.7

Do we actually know how many people there are on devRant?
Just wondering to see which percent of the community liked the top posts.8 -
People who don't know anything about programming after playing watch dogs 2: "I AM A HACKING GOOOOOOOOD!"2

Elon Musk doesn’t know what consequences his plan has 🤨
Musk: I‘m putting people on Mars!
Developers: Fantastic, more timezones to support 😑2 -
I understand the muggles on Facebook saying it was Apple and Amazon that were hacked, but here on devrant where people know WTF is up, I'm still not seeing people say where the hack actually took place, and what makes the news truly terrifying: SMC.4

So, there are actually people with a BSc in CSc that don't even know how to clear their browser's temporary files and cookies...2

People that contact me through LinkedIn trying to sell me some marketing shit or asking me about some issue with the service provided by a company that I started but with which I don't have any relation whatsoever since October 2016, which by the way is pretty clearly stated in my LinkedIn profile,…
DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO FUCKING READ??? Stop pestering me about that company. I don't have anything to do with it, I can't do anything about it and, even if I could, I DON'T FUCKING WANT TO.1 -

I have a question for you guys. What level of education tends to be required to get a good dev job?
I've seen some people say bachelor's degree, I've seen some people say it doesn't matter much. I really don't fucking know. I'm in my senior year of high school and I need to know what exactly I'm gonna fucking do with my life.10 -

I don't understand how after decades, people who know what they're doing don't disable automatic updates as one of the first actions on a newly installed windows machine. People moan about it on here like they don't know.5

Sometimes it feel like I'm being awkward, not awkward to normal people but awkward to awkward people. Something Like double awkward. The irony is that, I fucking know I'm being super weird. I just prey for that moment to pass as soon as possible.1

I just hate it when people dont know tools of their profession!
You are a dev..... Learn git goddamnit!
You are a frontend dev.... Know SASS and various other tools that will make your and people around you's life easier.
You are a backend dev.... Know how to use linux and know which tool to use to make the app faster.....
Or else dont talk to me and leave me alone.5 -
I hate when people use error, bug and glitch interchangeably. They are all different things people. Stop using such technical words if you don't even know their meanings.3

Why is supporting Windows Server 2003 in the project requirements?!?! Isn't that like fucking 13 years ago?!?! The support for it has even ended like 3 years ago. Also, why are people using Windows to host their servers? Do people know what Linux is???3

Pluralsight said I'm in the 85th percentile of people who know JavaScript and therefore I'm an ”Expert"
So now I walk around like, "bro do you even know how to pass a callback?" 😏 -
In my opinion people hate JavaScript just because it's different from other languages.
Why people hate coercion? It's useful if you know how to use it. Or dynamic typing.
What's your opinion about?5 -
People talk about others last words, but we all know that our last code would be much more interesting 😇1

"I know HTML5 and CSS3"
Is it anyone else's experience that when people claim to know HTML[5] and CSS[3] they usually know neither HTML nor CSS well enough to be of any use?
Myself, I know HTML4.01Transitional//EN11 -
I can count the number of people who know the difference between pod install and pod update on one hand.

Unfortunately, due to my recent decision to only connect with people I know, it means I get a lot of those “Do you know this person?” pop-ups when I hit ignore. And because I’m a lyric person, it also means every time I deal with someone I don’t know, my brain goes:
“I don’t know him!”
“Peter, don’t you know what you have saaaaaaid? You’ve gone and cuuuut him dead.” -
Finally! The most incompetent C-level has decided to leave the company. He did fire most of the old dev team & a lot of other people and employed people he already knew.
I think he did fire around 20-25 people and hired new people or people he know. Our company cosists of 40 employees :D1 -

Specter and Meltdown. Remember those guys?
Well I'm curious if anyone know of some articles that talk about someone successfully using the hack. Because you know people hate updates and now I want to know if anyone has paid the price of not doing their due diligence.1 -

I don't know if on the outside it seems like I know my shit and I know what I'm doing or not, but on the inside, I have no fucking idea what I'm doing. I'm just going with my gut and hoping for the best and I don't know if people are actually falling for that or not.3

I honestly don't know how people use Apple products. I feel like Apple is so limited. I don't know maybe I am wrong because I have used nothing but Android my whole life....5

I hate people. I show them devrant or try to abstract a problem to a everyday problem people still reply with "I don't know computers" ignorant fucks.1

Best part of being a dev is knowing only so many people know how to do the things you do. And it's not that hard really, but you know... people.
So there'll still be demand for my work in the foreseeable future. And little competition.2 -
The only good use of WhatsApp status is that you get to know people still have your number saved in their phone! 😂2

people have this saying, never give up. but u know what I find in programming that's not true at all. I say give up a lot. as many times as it takes to get the answer. I'm betting a few people know what I'm talking about. that or I'm the weird one. :)1

And when you as a developer, market yourself, you are not doing anything bad. If you truly believe that you know your stuff and you are someone who can bring value to people, there is nothing wrong to let people know that. You would actually help them

Boo-Leen or Boo-Li-An ?
You can say the answer is obvious but i know of people who pronounce either of both.15 -

For people who don't know what telstra is, it's a mobile provider6 -
Don't know how many people installed Android p but I now never close apps because it's addicting to use the slider to switch between them.4

To know what people are thinking to better understand them, their reasoning and motives.
Quite a lot of the time facades are put in place and while i already see through them, would like to know what is really going on. -
A lot of people use AWS to run theire VPSServers. I wanted to know if there are also some Vultr/Digital Ocean users here?7

Very tired of people that turn around to me and say “this is sales, you have to know your audience, it’s not based on truth and logic”... basically an excuse for telling outright lies and expecting me to pick up the pieces when reality bites and the lies come back to haunt them, all for the sake of “closing the deal”8

Some just know how to talk the walk. Wanna pitch a ridiculous idea but don't know how to execute the plan. I give up on people these days.1
-
Do you ever overcomplicate an explanation to make things sound harder, because you know that explaining a hard thing simply makes them sound easy to people who just don't know?1
-
I just noticed that a lot of the people who I got to know on devRant have changed their usernames....7

So some of the C++ guys I deal with have this thing in their mind that they know all the other languages cause they're similar right, and they argue that it doesn't work vice versa. You know Java, you don't know c++
Simple advice to people out there who meet such people is to just ask them to make a Java program with the goto command
Little know it all freaks.11 -

People that call you, get to voicemail and, instead of leaving you a message (especially if it's something important), just hang up.
Why is it so hard for people to just leave a message saying “Hi, I'm ${PERSON} and I'm calling you because of ${REASON}, to let you know that ${WHATEVER}. Please call back”?
I don't know if it's like that in your respective countries, but here in Spain people seem to have a phobia of leaving voicemails and it's fucking annoying.3 -
Some people, when confronted with a problem, think “I know, I’ll use regular expressions!”
…and now they have two problems. 🤦♂️🤷♂️6 -
Does anyone know a relevant alternative to Atlassian's JIRA? Damn their pricing is like 10$ for 10 people and 250$ for 25 people. WTF12

the simplest things are hard to fixate on when you're exhausted and know people tried to steal them many times for no reason.2

With people complaining about PHP so much, I really what to know why.
I'm thinking about learning it, I'm always up for a challenge8 -
I don't understand why some people take computer science as their stream, while they don't know anything in it. Those majority people in most of the universities take computer science seeing other people's rush. In my University 70 % of the people even dont know the ABC of programming. These mad annoying people just ruin the merit list. 😠😠8

Does anyone know how Go, the programming language is working?
People likes it, is it useful, is it good or there are better alternatives?
Would like to know the opinions of those who know about it :]7 -
I know how many people hate systemd. I started reading about it a week ago and I am enjoying it. Seems a much better alternative to previous things.
Is there something bad I should know about...2 -
Is social life a thing? I wouldn't know.
But then again I'm not to fond of people in general (only a few in particular). -
Trying to read the description/usage for WP functions to figure out what's going on is like getting lost inside a maze...inside a maze.
I swear people write these descriptions for people who already know what the functions are and what they do. #UselessToMe -
So funny when who people try and jump in IT related conversations saying “Ah yeah, ....xyz... I’m a programmer” do not know what Git is :)3

There was a murder at a mime convention.
People that were there know who did it, but nobody is talking.2 -

Do I really need a reason? Kids don't know computers before him, and people my age will know him and his contributions2 -
I dont understand why people seem to get offended when employers/recruiters ask 'do you know XYZ'?
If you know it, say Yes.
Whats the problem?1 -
Wow, it seems a lot of people on here hate web dev.
It sounds like they dont know what they are doing 😊12 -
There are only 10 kind of people!!!

Matrix room for devrant community? I don't know if it has already been asked. And I don't even think there is a lot of people who know matrix anyway. But asking won't hurt :p4 -
I know many people know about it but I'll still ask it anyway just out of curiosity. How many of you are familiar with Roko's Basilisk and what are your thoughts on it?2
-
I know my development skills are getting better because I am having more people pitch me ideas....to many ideas...1
-
StackOverflow is full of shit people who think they know everything. Really fucks me off. Only because you have a high reputation doesn't mean you know everything and that everyone else with <500 rep is stupid. I hate this whole concept of rep because it separates people so much and causes a whole load of prejudice. Fucking cunts.2

Why do people (mostly clients) love to pay using paypal? Don't they know it's not a bank and there's really no fraud protection.
I know I'm enabling it by offering PayPal as a payment option...3 -
I refuse to use the Scheme interface to Meep purely on principle. I know there may be no computational physicists here but maybe there are people who know Scheme.

Haskell would say from its heart:
People who don’t talk about me, don’t know me.
People who talk a lot about me a lot, don’t know me as well.1 -
So if people could just stop point out there are all these JavaScript frameworks out there. And yes, we know there are new JavaScript frameworks released every day. And yes, we know jQuery is the lamest thing anyone can think of. So if you frontend people could just stop telling me that every fucking time we talk about frontend I would be happy.
