Fun/Interesting fact:
"++i" can be slightly faster than "i++"
Because "i++" can require a local copy of the value of "i" before it gets incremented, while "++i" never does. In some cases, some compilers will optimize it away if possible... but it's not always possible, and not all compilers do this.15 -

I feel like with all the new technologies coming in, I am always occupied with learning something and I don't get the time to game at all.

Does anyone else have periods where they just can't seem to get shit done? I hope this question is ok as it's not entirely dev related.
I'm planning on building a custom cattracking device that i can attach to a cat harness. It obviously has to be very small and light. This is why i had the pi zero in mind.
I want to track my cat via Gps and send location via gsm (and use a trigger if he connects to my wifi to set off an alarm so i can let him in).
My experience with pi's is limited but i have some with arduinos.
Besides that i would need a case which keeps the pi save from dust, humidity and maybe rain but won't interfere too much with the gsm signal.
First: is this even possible?
If yes, what would you recommend?
Are there better ways to do this?

I've been a consultant in the area of mobile apps for five years now and have stayed at the same company since getting my degree.
In the beginning I had an immense passion and worked on a lot of side projects/pro bono stuff during my free time. Around the same time as the pandemic hit I simply lost all my interest and energy, life has been going to work, go home, find something to eat and go to bed. I can't even find joy in playing video games, working out or cooking anymore, it's always browsing youtube/netflix because I can't find it in me to commit to anything that requires focus.
The project I'm currently in no longer gives me the ability to grow technically, it's just the same old stuff over and over with no opportunity to do proper maintenance or explore new approaches/frameworks/etc.
I recently found out that I make around 25-30% less than my peers in the same field and location, this was a blow for me since I keep getting praised both from customers, management and my fellow developers.
A year ago I asked management to find me a new project with the motivation that I don't want to stall my growth, they have yet to heed this request since I'm not easily replaced.3 -

I ran tracert on the url but it ended on the nginx server, is there a way I can find out if my nginx IP is forwarding?
I have a webservice on server z, and nginx on server x, tracert end at server x, so does dev tools in chrome/firefox they show host ip header as server x. Is there a way where I can trace my call to server x if it is forwarded to another server?
I know I'm forwarding it, but if someone wants to know, can they? -

I'm about to graduate and I have no idea what I'm doing. I tried learning the basics and even went through a lot of extra stuff. I can only say I dabbled in scripting, web scraping and a little bit of software development. However when I compare myself to my peers, I feel so out of place. Is it fundamentally possible to restrict a SQL database like Postgres in a way that unintended SQL queries are impossible to execute? Perhaps in some kind of whitelist fashion. Is it possible to achieve the kind of security that will be just fine exposed to the outside world akin to "SQL queries in onClick handlers" scenario?
Or is this an uphill battle of never being able to moderate an infinite set of possible fraudulent queries?5 -

Doesn't the existence of NULL in a language mean, that there cannot be a boolean type? Because a bool is defined by the fact, that it can have two possible values. Having NULL changes that.
Without NULL a variable of the type bool could be True or False, two possible values. With NULL is can be True, False or NULL, three possible values.

Hey so I'm guessing embedding mysql is probably pretty much just creating a custom install under a subdirectory and starting it with a special config file with a custom port etc.
but is it possible with a single package and command line or is mssql possible to embed as well ?
