First rant (well, first on devRant anyway)! So, I'm working on a project to refactor a decade old codebase so that all references to ip addresses are in config. It sucks. But I did find an ascii art fish in an old cron script, so that's something.9

A question here reminded me of how websites were made long ago. Frames! Remember those little jewels? <frameset> and <iframe>, I still remember them. Man, even then it felt terribly wrong to use them. I remember using them to create web pages with header and side bar.
The only alternative was using <tables>, which, well, we know how they ended up. Frames today have been silently forgotten, but tables have been loudly hated for many years!
Ahhh, those were the times. So much has happened since then.

It's a toss up between a basic software portal for my old school as a volunteer thing or an old game designed around user content creation.
The portal is more of a personal success but the game was a success in the respect it ended up rolling past a Bethesda employee and he gave me a one on one Skype chat about there design methods. -

Today when I came home he said that he would like to learn programming too and help me to do some projects in the future. I know it's kind of late for him to start learning something new, but what do you think, what can I do to help him start programming? They use tons of useless rules, but the last addition was the last drop: they force you to use the old (and long) array declaration.

Was digging through an old HDD's OEM Windows recovery partitions and found FON-format fonts that are accurate to several old systems. Several Commodore and Amiga ones (some for 80-char mode too!) and lots of DOS ones. They have names and everything, but I can't use them after installing them... (there were a few blank ones in there too, which is odd...)

I've been infcted with writing awful, sinful, obscure code, so others can't read or change it.
Recently i got my first full time job as a programmer (yay). It's with a company with 15+ year old system and they are currently upgrading it. But it's driving me crazy with the massive mess of old and new code. However it only gets worse! Instead of making it simple and nice to read, they want it over complex, just to get something from the database i have create at least 5 fucking classes and endless SQL code, the old system didn't requier any SQL or the creation og new classes, WTF. I've become a sinner, of corse i use the old system, but i do it secretly, and i obscurify my code so others can't understand. It's shameful, but i'm afraid to confront the older programmers, they've spend too much time in the system and they've been in the business for a lot longer than me.3 -

Windows 7 - i infected that shit so quickly lmao
Windows 10 - i'm not disgracing my old laptop with that
Xubuntu - boots, but my tablet configurator dosen't start properly wrapped in wine (Shenzen HUION only has Win and Mac drivers), and i am an artist
Gamedrift - haven't tried
ReactOS - Last time i checked, it won't boot but i should try again
any other suggestions?

At least I can contact the old dev, but he's slower at replying, than reading the code through and figuring it out 😐1 -
Wow old MS, just wow. Why running ASP.NET with VS in W7 on my potato laptop absolutely annihilates it, but running ASP.NET Core with VSCode (in UNIX) is blazingly fast?

What's your favorite editor for Web development? Using Coda on the Mac and good old UltraEdit when on Windows (with custom theme). Tried Sublime and MS Visual Studio Code but they never stuck.17

actually it wasn't mine. But it affected me. So we had a project website on wordpress and wanted to rewrite the theme. everything went well to the Point of production. Site is fine locally, at testing and on stage. On production we still see old, a bit broken old version, but only on homepage. Wtf. Nothing helped. After couple of hours later we found out, that the admin was updating php version and he left html shot at production, which was taking over.

The cross systems dependencies are like spaghetti code....
Data Flow: Old -> Upstream (that i need) -> Old -> New
So in order to migrate a feature to the new system... I still need our old system... indirectly...

Obligatory !rant, I had been I think about 6 jobs. My current job is still new to consider best/worst boss yet but in my entire career, my old job was the best boss ever. Looked out for all of us, care for us, fought for us, pushed us to do better and rewarded us for being exceptional. Unfortunately I left because of upper management's stupid decisions for financial reasons. I won't go back for my old job but I wouldn't mind working for my old boss again.

I don't know if this is just YouTube or this is a feature, but there is a time bug with YouTube. Every video that is >1 week old (and younger than 2 weeks) will still using the format "... days ago" instead of "1 week ago" like how it is intended.
For example, this video is >1 week old, which means that it should show the "1 week ago", but instead, it still shows "12 days ago".
