Worst meeting I've been in?
The one where I was told by my lead and the senior that my new colleagues were having trouble speaking to me because I'm a "strong, independent woman" and that I need to make sure I don't scare them when I approach them.
-_-20 -
!rant: A friend posted the frontpage of a local newspaper in the Philippines. The summary is in 'lorem ipsum'! I checked it online(epaper) and it is still there! Someone's gonna be in big trouble...39
-
Upgraded work PC to a SSD. Can't believe the difference it made. It's like a new computer.
Only trouble is, now I can't blame the computer for my slow work...
Maybe I can blame the RAM from now on.9 -
Wife asked if she could see my Python so I pulled it right out.
She yells, "That's not what I meant and you know it! Show me your code!"
Now apparently I'm in trouble 😂7 -
Mom : there's a letter for you. It's from USA. Are you in trouble ?
Me : oooouh shit what have I done ?
Fiuuuuu..NSA still not tracking my buggy code 😂9 -
My dad turned off my laptop this morning, so tonight, before going to sleep I had to tell him, not to do this.
So I decided to do this....
PS: yeah that's my mom's hair clips.:D11 -
Customer: I don't see why you cant just make me something like Facebook for $300 this is ridiculous
Me: ...7 -
I wanted to go on a cruise with my programmer boyfriend.
His response?
"I can't be away from work that long."
Not because he'll get into trouble or anything. Oh no. He just loves writing code *that* much. 🙄5 -
Conversation I just heard
Manager: How's everyone doing?
Dev: I'm actually really tired. I've been having trouble concentrating and reading. I think I need a vacation.
Manager: Oh but that's good. You see, the brain is like a muscle. Today you lift 30kg, tomorrow you lift 40kg. So you will be able to handle more and more stress as you progress. That's great.
Dev: ...19 -
Finally... Source code of Windows trouble shooting program is here:
PS: I always hated it and found it useless. What about you?13 -
I think I've finally realized something:
my boss does not actually listen to me.
Quite often during out weekly conference calls, he asks me questions about things I had just covered. I always assumed he couldn't hear because a) i'm rather quiet, and b) freeconferencecall.com bloody sucks.
But it happens for written things, too. I type an update on something in Slack, and an hour later he asks me for an update on it. I always assumed (likely correctly) that he has nearly zero reading comprehension. He writes like a 5th grader and only remembers a few nouns and one verb from anything he reads. But I swear he actively skips reading anything I write.
Now, however, I have frigign' proof that he ignores me. We have both been trying to get ahold of {Clover contractor} via email for months. We have gotten three replies, but twice scheduling prevented setting up a meeting, and once I simply missed the email amongst the flood of log spam I haven't been allowed to address.
I have asked the boss multiple times for the guy's phone number -- in emails, in Slack, and in front of everyone during our weekly conference calls -- and he has totally ignored me every. single. time.
Here's a transcript of my seventh(!) attempt:
Boss [2:13 PM]
Have you and {Clover contractor} met yet? If not make it happen. Stop letting it not happen. GIve specific dates and times. {Clover contractor} let's talk Tuesday 2pm or Wednesday 4pm which works better for you.
Root [2:14 PM]
For the seventh and last time, give me his phone number.
Getting ahold of him via email has not worked.
Boss [2:14 PM]
I am sendning one more, from that I want you to make the meeting happen asap.
Root [2:14 PM]
if i call him, setting up a meeting will be _easy_
Give me his phone number and I will handle this.
It is now 3:00pm and I haven't gotten a response.
Either he doesn't want it to happen, wants me to fail for some reason, or he's totally fucking oblivious. Yet ofc it's me who earns all of the blame when this meeting doesn't happen, and I'm likely to get yelled at in front of everyone, fucking again.
I'm really beginning to hate this guy.
I can't wait to walk out on him and watch the company come crashing down in my absence. It'll be sad to watch, but bloody hell does he deserve it for his arrogant incompetence.14 -
When you have trouble naming variables, begin writing the comment for what it should do and the name will come to you :)7
-
I just made this devrant chrome extension that notifies you when a new rant is posted. Just because having the site open isn't distracting enough.
@dfox will I get in trouble for using your logo for this?17 -
Manager: how is the progress, can we deliver it by next week?
SACH: i am having trouble with MYSQL server.
Manager: if yours is not working, take someone elses, i will talk to them
SACH: 😐2 -
!dev
lol I keep getting in trouble over people taking secondhand-offense, and managers keep bringing up the same instances like I’m somehow at fault.
Look, if Alice says something to Bob, and Carol hears it and gets offended on Bob’s behalf, but Bob doesn’t? Carol should jump off a bridge.10 -
Like "Why is Facebook webpage running so slow" (I think cuz of all the tracking stuff, and they are having trouble on my Linux machine). But I gave it a naive duck-duck and found this brilliant tip to "Reinstall JavaScript" to improve that performance. I'm just so speechless rn... And the cherry on the ice-cream is the link :Drant reinstall js wtf-anyway? like what? guys... facebook is evil i dont want to use it i use arch btw java is also an island12

If you’re having trouble with the bossman’s ‘tude
He’s giving you the blues
You wanna dev, but not for this dude
Here’s what you gotta do:
Pull up the CV, it’s that easy
Send it every time
Just use a throw-away email, hey.10 -
A client was talking to me all day asking about my "hacking" experience.
I taught he was going to ask for a pen test for his trampoline website. At the end of the day, he revealed he wanted me to hack the "competition's databases" so he can promote his "very unique trampoline accessory".
Guess what happened? Nothing, cause fuck legal trouble!7 -
One of my colleague is in trouble... He yelled "I don't give a fuck " in a zoom meeting. He told me he thought his mic was muted.
No is not. You fucked up.10 -
I once explained to my teacher that i had trouble getting started with programming after a longer break and wondered if he had any smart ways to get into programming again. He smiled and explained that:
"There are no great ways to get into programming, the trick is to never really get out of it".
Best tip I've ever gotten.1 -
Deepin is sexy. Made me horney
Who want a Mac now
Though I did had trouble with my PppoE internet connection, which wasn't working in ubuntu and in Deepin majority of sites were not loading, but I had fixed it (MTU )15 -
I was told that my granny was having trouble signing into Facebook, so I go to help her and this is what happens.
Me: try and open Facebook.
Granny: *looks confused*
Granny: oh I know!
Granny: *opens up Gmail*
Me: *wtf is she doing?*
Granny: *opens an email from Facebook*
Granny: ok, I'm in Facebook.
Not sure whether to cringe or laugh 😅8 -
Confession: I sometimes drop in lines like "not everything should be public, some things should be private" and "good understanding of the relationship is vital" etc. when arguing with the girlfriend. If she ever finds out what I'm doing I'm in serious trouble...
-
**Overheard new intern struggling with git talking to lead developer
Intern: "I am having trouble with the git repo on my local machine, can you take a look?"
*** Looks at code for three seconds
Lead developer: "Yeah, I suggest you just delete and reclone the repo."7 -
Me @ people having code trouble : haha, relax! It's not the code's fault nor computers, it just does what you tell it to.
Me @ code giving me trouble : I fucking know code has ancestry and you bring dishonor to yours, fucknuckle.2 -
Back at highschool me and a friend were transferring movies from one USB to another, and my friend left some movies on the computer.
IT guys walks in and confronts us about the movies, where we thought we'd get in trouble, guess what he says next...
Hey guys I see you have some movies, well if you want you can copy some of the movies from my collection! LOL2 -
Vscode golden tips:
Rule #1: the less extensions you installed, the less trouble you get into.
There is no rule #29 -
Classmates having trouble with their mess of spaghetti code and improperly named variables (I saw variable names like "poop" already).6
-
It would have been so helpful if they taught us about licenses and copyrights. Would've saved me a lot of trouble.4
-
I'm curious to know, what was the first problem you've encountered, but solved through programming?
For me, since I'm a writer, I try to complete one random writing prompt a day.
However, I always have trouble deciding which one I should do. So, I created a prompt generator in Python.
Whenever I run the program it would display a random prompt.8 -
!rant Having serious trouble doing anything productive in the “career-oriented” sense with my holiday break.
But I made slippers. That’s productive, right?13 -
Throwback to when some teenager tried to pay me and my buddy $10 (total, not each) to develop a custom forum website for his ArmaIII video game server, then got mad at me when I told him that's unreasonable
"And I'm already in trouble with my parents for offering you that much so you ought to appreciate it'
Lol ok.5 -
You know what drives me crazy.. seen this inside code of "senior devs"
If(something() == true){
// do something
}
Dude!!! The if only happens if its true!
Code this..
If(something()){
// do something
}
OHHH but if i say something I GET IN TROUBLE.4 -
me: so can i use strlen?
intern: no!! you need it implement it!

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!
HOW CAN SOMEONE BE A FREELANCER/WEB DEV AND TYPE SO FUCKING SLOW AND HAVE TROUBLE WITH FUCKING LETTERS ALL THE TIME?!
I'm gonna push this mother fucker so hard that he will learn not to "lie" in an interview never again and become a fucking dev.5 -
Phish everyone's slack tokens, make markov chain bots that immitate everyone and delete any messages not coming from the bots.
Have the entire company chatting with itself nonsensically without allowing any human interaction for a whole day.
Then buy the sysadmin their favorite bottle of alochol for the trouble I put them through.1 -
So this is an update of the afore mentioned IT related RPG I am making. I have settled on the title "Lords of Bullshit: a tale of corporate incompetence".
I need some ideas guys. I have Java, C, Python, PHP, bash and git as skill types, but I need spells for each.
For example in C I have malloc and dealloc as spells (revive and death spells).
I am having trouble with Java spells. I am trying to come up with things that focus on OOP or reflection and meta programming, but I am having trouble.
Any ideas? Also, anyone want to help with some sprites? All of the sprites the character generator can make are medieval looking.19 -
40 minutes to realize that the "Access denied" error was not about the database on the server but about a local file.
And a sudo solved everything2 -
Client: Hi I'm having trouble with my computer.
IT Guy: Have you tried turning it off and on again?5 -
Having trouble sleeping, gonna count the "I don't have a social life" posts until I fall asleep.
(Might post the results in the comment, stay tuned)25 -
I wonder if I’d get in trouble for brand misuse if I designed and sold a t-shirt that says “Be nice to me or I’ll talk about you on devRant.”6
-
Whenever someone leaves their computer unlocked (and if they're using Chrome/Chromium), one of us will install the Cenafy plugin. It has a 1 in 100 chance of redirecting you to a site that plays the John Cena theme any time you load a new page. Trouble is, the tune is so damn addictive I spend the rest of the day humming it.3
-
I got in trouble for refactoring code to be modular. They said “thats too complicated the maintenance team”.
Said coworker produced a kludge of copy pasted code so the dumb ass maintenance team could understand it.
tldr; interfaces and abstract classes are too advanced for our employees so make the codebase shitty on purpose.3 -
So I want to watch Olympics events on TV but apparently need a premium cable channel not in my package (NBC-SN).
BUT I can use my cable login to stream it online and in the NBC Sports app
AND the app supports Chromecast internally
In the end I still get to watch on my TV but... Why all this trouble....4 -
Having trouble logging into an app I am suppose to be working on with another dev. Debugging and found this:
// TODO: Temporary Optional because the API is not working properly
... i'm not happy for so many reasons -
Expert: "The core problem with passwords is that they reside on a server."
I suppose that's true, but only if you're a complete moron. Store a hash of a password, and users can authenticate against it with a password that doesn't get logged. This is technology that's been around for over fifty years. If you're storing passwords on a server, you deserve whatever trouble you get.6 -
X : Do you accept space for username at sign up?
Me : Nope, no space. Username shouldn't have space.
X : Lots of people have trouble at registration because of that.
😑😑😑8 -
So we are completely burned out with this project that had a fucking generic contract and my boss never had the balls (and never will) to say no to the client's endless requests and changes...
We are about to deliver it once and for all and they complain about one thing that I have already agreed to my boss that we would not do...
We tell the client that it is the case...
They email everyone involved in the project with a high level of drama on it...
I ask my boss, who is on vacation, on directions as to "how" I should tell them the fuck off...
My boss answer: I'm making a script to solve this issue and to avoid further trouble with it...
Ooo you stupid motherfucker! Can't you see you only bring more trouble with that attitude?1 -
Leave company loyalty in the 1950s where it belongs. A job will cut you loose at the first sign of trouble! 🚨3
-
Seriously!? You don't fucking delete or change code because you don't understand it and push it to production, it's the way it is because of reasons you airhead can't comprehend ... ffs the fucker could have asked me and saved us trouble and embarrassment.
Fuck.7 -
So, apparently you guys are having some trouble understanding wk46.
When someone suggests the topic, you should not actually reply with a rant you'd post in that topic.
Keep the content and post it when the topic gets used.
(you'll also get more upvotes since it'll be a rant instead of a comment)8 -
After hours of debugging my js script, I finally found out that all my trouble came from a variable that contained the string “true“ instead of a boolean value. I kinda hate javascript now...6
-
People delivering flowers to the office, guy walks in with a massive set in a huge case, delivery guy says:
Either he is setting the bar really high, or he's in trouble. Here I am, at my desk, just being the only single person in my office. Writing a SQL proc for the same report I have been working on for the last month. Happy single awareness day everyone.3 -
I hate people who just fork my repositories on github without starring it!! if you can go through the trouble of forking a repository why not star it too? :(5
-
Social media has made so many fucking stupid people famous, I don't see any advantages of all these platforms!
And while writing here this, I am also being somewhat hypocrite!
"Likes","retweets", ++", fucking kerma...all are creating much of the fucking trouble already!
(Excluding /r/aww)3 -
Family moves abroad.
Has trouble with internet. They called the internet company who sent a repair guy to their house.
Since they couldn't understand what the repair guy said, they have me on FaceTime to talk to the repair guy.1 -

I'm just around 8kg away from officially becoming overweight.
As someone who had trouble gaining weight most of my life, this is very exciting!
Gotta get back to exercising soon. But I'm not a gym person. I guess I'll go for run or cycling along with workouts at home.10 -
I don't like web design, but i'm also annoyed the people I want to have do my tattoos don't have anything on their site (just says under construction)...
Would you design a website for free tattoos (if you like tattoos), or is it still more trouble than it's worth?5 -
My Windows 10 installation now demands a restart every day to install updates.
Obivously it fails to install the updates every time, as usual.
But now I get the notification that I can either "wait an hour" or restart now.
You know what, fuck video games. They aren't worth the trouble of running this piece of shit opererating system.23 -
I threw an error into my code to find where the code was having trouble but instead of raising and error it fixes the problem and runs flawlessly
At this point I can't tell if python loves me or hates me2 -
Using your phone in Dutch trains is like trying to have sex during an earthquake.
Yes, I did have trouble typing this.20 -
One time I was building a custom modal for some crappy WordPress template and I was having trouble with the header rendering above my backdrop, after digging into the CSS I realized the headers z-index was literally set to 9001.1
-
I would make unintelligent customers disappear.
Reason:
What did I do today, one may ask? Spent the entire day debugging code and creating test cases to fix a high priority trouble ticket submitted by the PM of a program.....where nothing was wrong to begin with.
User error makes the world sad.7 -
The one skill I know that I am really proud of is GIT.
Put me into trouble with merge conflicts.
Saved my life with its version control.
Always had an adventurous ride with Git. Hope to have many more such rides and get to learn more about you. -
Damit I always get in trouble after I give a deadline to any task :/
My estimation of work done is poor4 -
Some hacker went through a lot of trouble to get around a minimum order amount on our site. And they’re still hitting us after Cloudflare issued a bunch of blocks. Well, there are some back doors I have to finish closing. I guess I’m lucky I’m just inheriting this site and I’m not the one who built it. But I’m still unlucky because I have to fix this mess. But damn hacker, why’d you go though all this trouble to get around existing validation. Go find another site to charge $1 amounts and test your stolen credit card info. Pretty please 🥺

Encapsulate tasks
To abstract your case,
Full of the catharsis
And exceptions to face.
Didn't commit, oh wait,
More trouble? One reset.
We return and all hail
This programming mindset!3 -
My GF is also a programmer. But we rarely talk about coding stuff.
Everything is fine with just one problem.
When I have a good focus on whatever I'm doing, I have trouble giving attention to other things and people around me. When doing Programming especially.
So I often feel bad that I couldn't give her enough care and time.1 -
Sensible question but I am asking it here!
As you know wifi packets can be sniffed using kali and a wifi adaptor.
I was wondering if the same thing can be done about car remote using raspberry pi ?
(I know theft is illegal everywhere and I'm not looking for trouble)13 -
!Rant
So FedEx delivered a 20-30lb package to my doorstep... I had a lot of trouble just getting it inside, I imagined carrying it all the way...
Am I weak or are those guys superhuman? or maybe that's the downside of being too techy? We're soon all become weaklings?30 -
I got in trouble for passing messages in class. I told the teacher I was just trying to make SmallTalk2

Friend: can you take a look at my code, there’s this bug that I’m having trouble with.
Me: yea sure.
Friend shows me IntelliJ with the default white theme...
Me: WTF man, my eyes are burning.
Never looking at his code again. At least until he changes to a dark theme.3 -

Anyone else have a coworker that tries to act like you and manages to completely fuck up everything to the point where if you go to your boss about it you're the one in trouble and not them. -_-

What music do you like to listen while pooping?
I for one like Moby. "Ooooh Lordy, trouble's so hard, oooh Looor[*pause*]dyyy, my trouble is hard"5 -
Somebody has to say it.
React is a lot more trouble that it's worth and has fewer good ideas than people give it credit for. It's a great tool for any other context that's not the browser, and the only reason its the new cool kid in town is because Facebook made it so, and because x-rays went nowhere.undefined remember writing a script tag and that was it react web development webpack is bullshit guys come on webdev5 -
There is this friend of mine, total business profile, working in banking audit for MNEs. The guy is in trouble with his PowerPoint, asking me if I can assist because "as you working in IT". I'm a Golang distributed system engineer for a major delivery company. Be sure I will call you next time I need to open a bank account.1

Me: I'm going to a hackathon this weekend.
Parents : are you sure it's legal and you won't get into trouble? You know, it seems to involve hacking
Took some time to explain the concept of hackathons. Same happened with a lot my friends. Many of them actually go to hackathons now.2 -
In my life I have never had trouble researching a concept... Until now.. Never had so many fruitless endeavours, its getting frustrating.7
-
Tough one.
One of my biggest weaknesses is that I'm having trouble with positive feedback.
It's kinda self defense because positive feedback usually means that a negative thing will happen.
One of the moments where I feel like a dev hero is when I can just accept the positive feedback.4 -
The teacher I mentioned here, https://www.devrant.io/rants/138737
No longer works at my college. A lot of students had trouble with her. We got a new teacher and he's awesome. Let's see where this goes.
P. S. He lets me use Vim. -
Slack's latest update just broke the darkify hack. It's 2019, right? It is unbelievable that there is no built-in dark mode for Linux, Mac, or even windows. I mean, they are aware of dark mode. It is available on mobile without trouble. Get it together, slack!11
-
I just read some of my old rants and it's no wonder I don't have more likes. Even I had trouble figuring out what I was talking about.4

time zone shift.
Am I the only one whos's inner clock seems to go absolutely crazy...
Might be due to my health issues, but whenever these one hour time shifts happen - trouble sleeping starts again, feeling sluggish and blue and nothing seems to work.
I hope it doesn't take long to readjust, cause today was completely unproductive6 -
Plan plan and then plan again
Especially on a hardened server in an off-site facility.
If you fuck up your SSH then you will be in trouble.4 -
Bug on trouble ticket system:
"I get a Nullpointer when i call this REST API *stacktrace*"

And he's a DEV!!!!! -
As much as I love programming, I like to help others when they're in trouble with code (even thoe sometimes I'm not that helpful) but I hate when someone asks me for help and when I try that person acts he knows it all and that my suggestions are stupid... I mean why did he ask for help in the first place?2

All of my css experience has been repressed by my mind in order to protect itself. The trouble is, everytime I start a new project I end up thinking, "this will be easy to layout, I'll just need a bit of css". Then there are a shitload of new traumatic memories to repress 😵😱1

Not really screensharing but kinda
Was in secondary school, I found out the computers had a team viewer client on them. Decided to download the full version to my usb and connect to my friends computer. We drew a bunch of stuff on the screens and eventually the teacher noticed a popup for team viewer in the corner of the screen and we got in trouble.1 -
I havent touched swing in months, and now when i need to come back to it everything is Windowbuilder. Trouble is, nothing is included in Eclipse and I don't have time to go around hunting for the packages I need. Netbeans is marginally better, but GODDAMN its frustrating when it auto-gens code that you have to use N++ to edit...2

So I was asked to do a card redesign A/B Test
The results came in
Redesign performs 20% worse
PM’s report says “no significant difference, redesign approved”
He just wanted his redesign to be published
smh, why trouble with A/B Test when results are known faster than during elections in North Korea1 -
Got in trouble yesterday for deploying to a QA environment and NOT sudo vimming a file to change the hardcoded email recipient... Maybe, the dev who wrote that file should use our configuration files instead of hardcoding it!
-
Fucking hell it pisses me off when you go to so much trouble to streamline processes, set up systems that improve workflow and solve issues, find better solutions and show how they make life easier... and people are like "yeah nah let's just do things the same old shitty way we've always done things".
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻5 -
Hey, can you generate a spreadsheet from this no-sql database with these specific properties for me?
6 months later:
Hey, the spread sheet in the new database, now use it, I messed with it for the past months, had some trouble with data but it sure is better than the db, right?

Just die...5 -
Currently working on a Selenium script to do my timesheet for me. It's been 30 minutes and it still doesn't work because I'm having trouble selecting the input fields correctly (the ID's are dynamic and keep changing!)
It takes me 30 seconds to do it manually.3 -
My devDucks just arrived today and I am so happy, and I have to share with all of you the awesome person dfox is for making sure they wouldn't get stuck in customs (here in Portugal they are really restrictive with the price limit). I wouldn't mind paying the customs fee, but you spared me of all the trouble. Many thanks!

I tried making a pringles wifi antenna and a yagi antenna one time.
I had trouble so i decided to ask my prof. for some help.
The security guard confiscated my stuff because He thought the pringles can was an IED
He contacted other security guards and had me watched until my prof came and explained i was a student and that i was making an antenna and not an IED11 -
Anybody having trouble with work VPNs during the health crisis? I can't imagine most have ever had this kind of test before.3

Since some weeks I've got trouble sleeping, so I put the source code of sleep from the coreutils under my pillow.
Yeah, it worked (: -
You know you are in trouble when a Google search shows only 5 results and all of them are stack overflow

Bragging about knowing how to hack the company's emails definitely gets you into trouble. And then coming out clean and saying it was all a bluff still gets you into trouble. Hacking jokes in the office is same as a bomb joke in public(crowded) places.

My productivity today:
- [11:05] Decided to get something done to be able to enjoy the evening even more (an important deadline draws near).
- [11:06] Ran out of coffee apparently. Well, that sucks.
- [11:25] Trouble with the environment on my machine at home.
- [14:00] Trouble continues, tried using tools to fix trouble, ran into trouble with said tools, ended up fixing trouble with tools before fixing trouble with environment with tools.
- [15:30] Fixed environment, finally ready to get something done.
- [16:30] Spent an hour browsing the web.
- [16:31] Decided this was enough work for a saturday.
Well.1 -
Does anyone here have any good resources for introduction to embedded, low level development, or anything on advanced C concepts? I've been having trouble trying to step into more complicated topics like bit manipulation and stuff I can do with memory management. Also any advice is also appreciated.30

Anyone else finds it a funny as me that Snapchat (meh) got in more trouble for making a joke about it that Chris Brown got from punching a woman in the face multiple times?

Arrghhh, now it is chatbot (+_+)
I am not even sure if my vuejs codes are in right direction or not and needless to say ES6. But now another task, freaking chatbots. I have trouble following and learning Facebook tools. It confuses the hell out of me every single time. -
Real devs try to have knowledge in all three major lines of OS so they don't have much trouble using a different OS at times, even if they absolutely don't like it.
You can still like your favourite OS and use it the most, of course. :)9 -
After 5 frustrating days, I have my laptop running again. Just in time for a data structures and algorithms exam.
TL;DR: driver issues aren't fun.
It all started on Friday, after the creators update. I was doing notes on lectures, and Windows crashed. I thought not much of it, it was just a "random" crash. I'd gotten a similar crash before, but I didn't think anything of it. This time was different, again it was my touchpad drivers that caused the issue, but this time a restart didn't work. I couldn't boot into Windows. I had to roll back to the last recovery point, effectively undoing the update.
This was fine, and fixed the issue, until Windows automatically updated my touchpad again, after me previously changing the driver. Another restart later and I couldn't boot. Time to roll back to recovery, right? Wrong. My drive had somehow, corrupt most of the Windows files.
And so, starts the journey of dismantling my laptop, changing the hard drive and putting it back together, a process that took 3 days due to not having the correct tools originally, and a late delivery.
(I could have rolled back to my backup system image, but that was before the creators update, and would have essentially postponed the issues I was having)
Finally, I managed to get Windows loaded from boot media (thankfully, they seem to tie your Windows licence to your account now) and am currently in the process of regaining all my lost files (which I have to pull from a system image, so it's a lot of digging through compressed files).
On a positive note, things are running well, and the faster hard drive (7200rpm vs 5400rpm) is a nice upgrade. And the touchpad drivers (the same one that kept crashing) haven't caused any problems since.
Now at least, I can get back to programming :D1 -
And finally my favorite OS on my favorite laptop.
Had trouble in the past with wifi and straight up not booting.
But Loki fixes everything, except the screenshot button but ok fine. I can at least use linux normally. Till now I was using bash on windows and tbh it was good.1 -
Saturday and a new VSCode Insiders release?
Normally there is no new release on the weekend. Well done Microsoft, except for the fact that I now have the following message in the terminal: "your 131072x1 screen size is bogus. expect trouble" :)
Otherwise, the performance of the current release (code-insiders_1.17.0-1506717283) is way better than the previous one.4 -

Answer:
Hey Dominique, are you sure the password you used is correct? Is it yours or the sysuser pw what you sent to the server? How did you send it?
Me: (kind of confused) Hey dear admin, did you look at my error message? It says Hostname not found. What do you think how I provided any credentials?
Support: yes, I saw your screenshot and don't see any password entry. That's why I asked!
Me: Well, than... ok... go and search for another job. Yeah and consider fucking yourself. Kisses. -
The last one was this Overwatch League Android/iOS client I made in Flutter. Basically wrote two apps in less than a month and learned (and enjoyed) Dart in the process.

This is a rant to myself. I am an international postgraduate student studying in Australia, and after the first year study, I got an internship in a local IT company. That's good indeed, not everyone can get recommendation from the uni, however, I feel so stressful. Because my English skill is not good enough, I hardly used any English before I came to Australia. Thought I have no problem in technical conversation, I often fail to keep up with my local colleagues' daily conversation. Sometimes I have to "Pardon?" for several times, that's embarrassed and makes me frustrated:/
But when I am chating with my local friend, I perform more better. Hmmm... Any suggestion? I really want to improve my English, specially listening skill of understanding what native speakers are saying.4 -

My biggest flaw when working in IT: I will refuse to prioritize time- consuming work with minimal added value (cf premature optimization, 0.001% edge cases) when I have a backlog of work that will add much more, obvious value and I will not budge to manager or architect power-plays and tendencies to micromanage my responsibilities, even if it may eventually end up getting me in trouble.2

Can I get into legal trouble for objectionable content posted by any evil user?

Anyone here have experience with bountysource or doing code bounties to make a little extra? Bountysource seems interesting but the annoying thing is that you don’t know which ones are still active, and plus some seem to be more trouble than what they’re worth. Learning their codebase (at least the relevant stuff) and implementing a fix for 50 bucks? No way in hell

Am I the only who's having trouble with the devRant app. Before anyone says to me to send an email about the bugs I've been having, I already did.
I don't know why but sense the last update I'm just finding bug after bug. Is anyone having problem with the app or is it just me?4 -

I spent hours trying to figure out why a specific library couldn't be found on my system. I finally tore apart the ./configure script to no avail. I did a full text search of the source code and found a `config.log` file mentioning it was having trouble with a sub-dependency. I had failed to install OpenSSL.

Just saw this talk on event sourcing. Kind of amazed by the benefits of this, and that I haven’t really touched upon it previously. Would have saved me a lot of trouble in the past year. Anyone have any ranting/thoughts about this?

Is anyone else having trouble posting images? I've tried in FireFox and Chrome and for the past few days, any time I attach an image to post as a joke/meme, the post button switches to the loading icon and then goes straight back. There's no error message.1

Let's say I made an app or even a game based on dungeons and dragons that help players of the game get through their adventures. But I called it a dungeons and dragons game and used their rules and everything. And credited them on the logic and rules and originating from them. Would I get in trouble. Or how would I go about releasing it and stuff15

Me: I’m having trouble filling out the state tax form online. The form won’t let me check the box “I live in X city.”
HR: You don’t have to fill out the form if it doesn’t apply to you.
Me: Why are you treating me like an idiot? And why the fuck are you making assumptions about where I live? -
