These "math question" captchas are really stupid.
It's not even an image that has to be OCR-ed, it's just plaintext. Why can't these people understand a captcha is supposed to be something only a person can do? This is math. Computers are amazing at math.23 -
i posted a question 43 seconds ago. there is no way you can read this whole question in 43 seconds and i already have a -1 downvote on stackoverflow.
i feel like these fucking cunts just downvote out of boredom just because they feel like it15 -
I just earned a badge on StackOverflow, let me quote it:
"You've earned the 'Tumbleweed' badge (Asked a question with zero score, no answers, no comments, and low views for a week) for [title]"
... Bruh, am I supposed to be happy now?9 -
Yesterday all the staff were give a piece of paper with a question.
Question:
What will make you happy at work?
and our answer should be confidential.
My answer was: A Girlfriend
I' ll be going to the HR Office about this. I was just being honest.11 -
Interviewer: (asks technical question)
Me: (answers correctly)
Interviewer: Oh thank God, most of the people we interview fail to answer that. So, on another note do you believe in rubber duck debugging?
Me: yes, ofc
Interviewer: but it's just a toy you know
[I was kinda taken aback]
Me: ...
Me: God is imaginary too you know
Interviewer: (he just laughed)
(So I laughed with him) 😅12 -
I really love it when people just downvote your question on stackoverflow without any explanation, it helps a lot to fix my problem thx 👌8
-
People who ask a question on the interwebs, solves it by themselves and just say "It's OK. I've solved it" without explaining how should have their Internet removed (maybe some light torture too).2
-
I really, really hate it when someone has a problem/question, and I really dedicate my heart and soul to write a really good answer that even a stupid person would understand - with drawing, explanations and shit. And they answer is just:
"Thanks"
"Ok"
"I dont get it"
"Can you please do it"
"you spelled that wrong"9 -
Today was the first time I told a rude interviewer off. Feels pretty good. Fuckwad kept cutting me off with “Shut up and just answer my question”. Nope. Not taking that shit my good sir.17
-
That was weird.
I was typing a question on DuckDuckGo and it redirected me to a similar question on Stack Overflow.
It didn't show any search results, it literally just took me to a solution on Stack Overflow.
That was interesting, but it never did that before so it caught me off guard.8 -
Wish me luck! Just posted a question on StackOverflow...
Ready to get downvoted all the way down to the earth’s crust.11 -
18 hours can't fix a bug
go to stack overflow spend 2h writing the question
post question
of course get a downvote in less than 50 seconds
then i thought: hold on while people answer me here, let me try one more thing
i try one more thing
it works
EVERY TIME, JUST AFTER ASKING SOMEBODY FOR HELP, I SOLVE IT BY MYSELF A FEW MINUTES LATER.
DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE?14 -
I really fucking loathe StackExchange. Some poor soul had the nerve (THE NERVE!) to ask a question about something they didn't understand (HOW DARE THEY!):
"What is the difference between a ping and a get request? The goal is to see if the site is up."
And par for the course over at smarmy-fucking-smug-pedant-land, in less than three hours, the question was closed: "[C]losed as not a real question... It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form.
Allow me to indulge in some pedantic, "well actually" fuckery of my own...
Well actually, that actually is a 'real' question, because it's, you know, a fucking question. There's a question mark in there and everything! The person is asking what the difference is between two different things, and we can tell it's actually two different things because the person uses two different fucking nouns. And not only is this person asking to know what the difference is between these two different things, they even give us a use-case for why they're asking the question: they're pretty sure that they think they might know there's at least two different ways to check that their website is up, they just want to know what the difference is between those two methods -- hence the two different fucking nouns. It's almost like they're trying to give us some contextual information about why they're asking so that even if there is some vagueness to their question -- which is bound to happen IF YOU KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SUBJECT, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY YOU'RE FUCKING ASKING -- then a reasonable, decent, helpful person who is making a good-faith effort to be helpful can infer from that context enough information that clarifies the question enough to remove any vagueness or ambiguity and thus provide a helpful answer. AND THAT'S WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED!
And what just fucking galls me to no end... the question was answered (SUCCINTLY, INFORMATIVELY, SIMPLY, AND CORRECTLY!) and even marked as accepted in less than fifteen minutes after being asked.
And that didn't stop some smug fuck from being an asshole and closing the question because "fucking scrub noobfags need to git gud."
https://serverfault.com/questions/...
If MySpace was a place for friends,
then StackExchange is the place for insufferably elitist smug cunts.4 -
I just want to say this place is AWESOME! 100% better than Reddit and 1000% better than SO. Not sure how I found it....oh yeah I was googling a question on how to do something in JIRA and used the 'f' word in my query.8
-
You know what? I'm starting to think Stack Overflow has an elitist attitude problem. I post an earnest question in meta and 3 out of 4 guys ridicule the idea and are rude. Only one person seemed willing to even consider my question. The other 3 just posted rebuttals of my idea. This is a Q&A forum, not the U.S. presidential debates, damnit!13
-
Every time I post a question to SO I feel so anxious.
Did I provide enough code samples and information?
Did I provide TOO MUCH information?
Is my English alright?
Did I really try everything else or will someone point out something totally obvious after that I feel that I need to delete my post because it's just dumb?
Feeling anxious right now... Worst of all: it's an important work related question, so I have to think about a new task because this issue was my only one and a road blocker.
AAAARRGGHHH!12 -
I attempted an online test for a Java Developer role at a pretty big company.
The test had a JavaScript question.
🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Just to clarify, the job description had no mention of JS6 -
When someone asks me a stupid question,
I always answer:
You have the Knowledge of the Entire world and human race in your pocket,
FUCKING USE IT! DONT ASK ME! GOOGLE IT! BING IT! WHATEVER! JUST DONT ASK ME!1 -
post != rant;
post = "Feature Request";
@dfox
Stack Overflow is full of abuntch of downvoteing dickbuts. The devrant community is so much more accepting of new devs, why not add a question section.
Down votes would only be allowed for spammers.
One the question was solved, it would go into the devrant question archive, Searchable by everyone.
Ik you have heard this one before, but it's Just my two cents.9 -
*The interview wasn't off to a good start, as the recruiter forgot he invited me for an interview, so he just led me to some empty office after letting me wait for good 15 minutes. *
Them: Here, write some pseudocode to find a value in a tree.
Me (thinking): Interesting question; DFS / BFS would be really simple here, but nobody uses trees for that - perhaps I should ask about characteristics of the tree in question?
But before I realised, the interviewer already rushed out the office, so I just picked up my jacket and left... -
Hey junior... when I'm asking a question it's not the answer I'm looking for.... It's your thought process! Just tell me the things you will not do and we can take it from there!4
-
!rant
Hello world, i've just found this awesome community a few days ago and I cant stop reading.
Anyway, I have a burning question:
Do devRant devs rant on devRant?4 -
[stackOverFlow]
When somebody has already posted a question in the form of a long story, and you just scroll down with good feel but the question is still unsolved for 2 years.4 -
The moment when you find exactly your problem on Stackoverflow...
...just to realize its the same question you read about a year ago when you already had the problem but since it was minor and there was no solution so you ignored it up until now.
Followed by the feeling when you see that there was not even a comment added the whole year besides it was viewed 150 times.
Followed by the feeling when you find the solution all by yourself and finally write an answer to the question.
Just to realize that this was the only question from this guy on SO and his last login was two years ago. :-~
Well at least the annoying log message is gone and I learned something new.2 -
Interview question:
"What are your three most favorite design patterns?"
Me: "Huh? They're tools in a toolbox. If I want to drive in nails I use a hammer or a nail gun. Do I need to cuddle with them? I don't pick favorites and I don't try to solve everything with just a bunch of patterns. And I've work with a bunch, right now I'm drawing a blank though as this question highly confuses me and would like to do a Google search listing a few names as the only one that's comming to my mind right now are the factory and builder pattern. And no, not necessarily favorites."3 -
So I just made a throwaway SO account because I had a 'risky' question and I don't wanna loose my 22 hard earned reputation points on my main account.
Maybe it's just me but I think it's very sad that asking a question on SO that doesn't get downvotes is so difficult.
Anyways, if anyone knows about UMDF drivers, here's the question: https://stackoverflow.com/q/...5 -
So people here are complaining about StackOverflow being rude and unfriendly to noobs.
Post a link to your question and people here will judge whether it's a good question/answer.
We will see whether it's the network or your questions being just bad.8 -
Asked a question on SO, realized the answer before getting any help, came back to the question just to see it was down-voted to oblivion because indeed it was very stupid.8
-
3rd yr in college to become a Dev and have realized that school doesn't give half as good info as I can find by teaching myself. So question is, am I going to college for a reason? or am I just10
-
Oh my God. New pet peeve:
People who answer questions on Amazon with an answer like "idk I just got this :(" or "idk man I bought it as a present."
Why the fuck do you feel the urge to answer a fucking question without actually answering it? Like are you that fucking stupid? Jesus Christ.5 -
I'm so scared of the people on stackoverflow that my method for debugging a problem is to write up a question by which time I'm shocked into finding a solution. I'm just too scared of being ridiculed by some narcissistic dev (who obviously never makes any mistakes, ever) or, heaven forbid, having my question down voted and closed.5
-
I just answered an old Question I asked on a forum and I don't know if I should be proud about my improvement or if I should feel dumb for accidentally answering my own question3
-
[more or less rant]
FUCK YOU ENKI! I just received this spam email with a very important question:5 -
Attended an interview, interviewer started calling me sir (Which I took as sarcasm).
Giving so many interviews, I was use to basic oops question. This guy just offers me a job based on my resume.
Felt nice but fishy.3 -
Spended 30 minutes try to answer a question on stackoverflow, the question deleted just before I posting the answer5
-
To the coworkers who won't read this -- If you have a question to message me, type the QUESTION ITSELF. Don't coyly request permission to ask me a question because you're worried you'll bother me, that just turns it into TWO questions. Let us put an end to saying 'hey, can I ask you a question' and then virtually walking away.10
-
xroad's rule for downvoting:
If you just reposted something in the span of a few hours or less I will downvote it.
If your rant starts with "there are 10 kinds of people in the world" my thumb will hit the -- button faster than an intern will ask a stupid question.3 -
I know this isn’t dev related at all but...
Nor is it a question, as my fat finger set it to...
Eminem just dropped a surprise album at midnight last night. No promotion, no bullshit. Just straight hip hop.
And the album cover is a throw back to the beastie boys!
If you can’t tell already, I am super pumped about this!!!17 -
devRant has a good design, but am i the only one who finds the refresh button a bit unsettling? Would anyone else prefer something else?22
-
Geee... i really don't get stack overflows down vote rage. Just answered to a simple question with a perfectly sane and correct answer. Before i could re-read my answer i already had 3 down votes. Some girl also answered but wrongly and no down votes. Damn, this is getting insane...15
-
This poor fella is asking a simple question we've all asked it before.. It makes me angry to see that some beginners get discouraged thanks to the toxic community at stackoverflow, many of the idiots on stackoverflow forget that they were once beginners and didn't know a thing.. Even if the question sounds stupid for you, why can't you just help them, instead of being an ignorant smartass.. 😠13
-
Lesson of the day: If Visual Studio starts acting up (doing inexplicable and illogical shit that literally makes me question life), just delete the .vs folder. In fact, don't delete it. Fucking shred it with a file shredder. Or even better, write it to a CD and burn the CD.6
-
I might have got my first freelancing gig. It sounds like a really simple thing, might just take one hour or so.
So comes the eternal question from the freelancing noob: how much should I charge?
I'm thinking approximately the hourly pay I get from my full-time job. Does that make sense? Even though it might just take one hour?1 -
Google just emailed me to tell me that I should, "take action against suspicious apps that can access your data"... but the app in question was a Google Drive API token I made for a thing I am personally developing .-.6
-
Was interviewing someone for a role, asked them a basic question in Python (before anyone gets on my case about interview coding questions, it's removing duplicates and the answer is to just cast to set, I'm just checking that they actually know Python). Perusing Stack Overflow while I wait for their answer (it's a remote call and I give them a bit of time to calmly deliberate). The exact prompt I gave them pops up as a question, the asker is registered to their profile.
Not only did they not get the job, but I downvoted the question and marked it as duplicate. Rejection and unemployment can be temporary, but StackOverflow reputation is FOREVER. -
so my project manager just asked me if she can help with anything, did she ask to make herself feel better after overloading me? Or was it trying to rush me politely?
im a fucking developer, you don't even know basic html, whats the fucking point of the question...10 -
Not just Stack Overflow, but all help forums:
If someone asks a question, and you think you might know the answer based on its subject or context, please spare a thought for others and instead of dragging the post on for pages and pages without an answer in order to show the poster up for being inadequately articulate, please make the first post a link to at least seemingly relevant reference material.
Nothing more frustrating looking for some undocumented api syntax, finding a similar question that you might be able to gleam from, and then only seeing pages of "aaah, but what OS are you on? What colour is your desktop? What is the average velocity of a..."
You can see they are struggling with an api, and you clearly know where to find the answer, so just quit the cocksure jostling of pretending you're any good at support and just be useful. The poster may be a tool, but the thousands of hits from Google will just think you're a twat.8 -
Name a more iconic duo than web developers on help sites and having pissing contests over which modules they use instead of actually answering the question!
I've been a web dev/server admin for all of about a month now, and only known PHP for about a week of that, and the one thing really that grates on me isn't PHP's odd function naming inconsistencies or at times outright trash documentation, it's the other developers who, when asked a fairly straightforward question about why a mysqli function won't return something, demand you use PDO instead.
Please. I'm running a LEMP stack on a Raspberry Pi here, I'm trying to keep dependencies to an absolute minimum because the SD card is tiny, the Pi will catch on fire if it runs any hotter, and more dependencies are more potential points of failure. Just answer the damn question. I'm not going to install PDO for something I know I can do anyway just because it makes my code look slightly prettier.
Honourable mention to all you Node.js developers out there too, with your thousands of useless npm dependencies. I salute you.8 -
I have a question to my fellow developers...
Why is AI so important these days... I mean... Wouldn't we just lose jobs (so many vompanies laying of emloyees thanks to automation)? Isn't this kinda detrimental?
By AI, I mean robots, automation, etc... Not the AI in say, video gaming or chatbots.28 -
Let's call him Butthead.
Butthead loves hearing his own voice, so he speaks like waterfall. You ask him one question, prepare for a one hour discussion. Always in same loud voice no matter if he is in a meeting or just chatting with his side mate.2 -
fuck me. I started the night with the question "what are classes, in JavaScript?", did a lot of reading, and just came to the conclusion "religious colonialism.", and I didn't even read a single Crockford essay.
I'm just going to give up, go learn Haskell, get a lambda tattooed on my ass, and be done with it. -
It might be a stupid question, but:
Do the full-stack devs of you actually have that function in the job contract or does it just say "(junior/senior) software developer"?
Mine says just "Software Developer" and in my opinion it sounds just too generic and undervalued for what I'm actually doing...22 -
"Name 5 weaknesses of yours in the workplace and explain to me how you try to improve yourself based on these."
Just laughed at the question since I expected to name maybe 1 or 2 instead of 5. Only named a few from the top of my head, but this question is bullshit anyways.
Should just have noped out of there instead though since the company was poorly organized.4 -
Do you wanna be a software engineer at Google?
Go to AlgoExpert.io. Pick a question. Read the prompt. Write some code…
JUST FUCKING STOP
Fucking shitty ad popping up every time I watch anything even remotely related to tech or science.13 -
I finally heard a retarded question on a job interview. I thought they were just jokes.. I was wrong!
What kind of a question is "how would your friends describe you?"..
They'd say I'm fucking awesome, did you expect a different answer?
Or when I gave them a referral, my previous boss, and they asked me what would he say about me.. well fuck me sideways, I have no idea.
And one of the last ones, "tell us your three top qualities that would make us hire you". What kind of information does such a question even give them? Are they testing me how well I can lie? Because I can't, and others that can lie will give a better answer, regardless of the reality.
And they were even taking notes after these questions.
Other than that, nice company. I really want to start working there soon.5 -
All I did was asked a rookie question(because I am rookie) and this is what he had to say.
He could've just said no politely. But I guess his success is on his head.9 -
Colleague: Ivy, I have a problem with blah blah.
(Meanwhile we are in two different places)
Me: I'm not sure I understand your problem. Just Google it.
Colleague: I don't want to.
Me: Okay bye.
Question: Are Developers who use Google impostors?9 -
Fucking useless bots.
I need a bit of help in getting some documents from my University, so I go into their site and they have a WhatsApp support number. Perfect, I think to myself. So I send them a message with my question and a fucking bot answers me with a list of categories for my question, none of them matching my question. So I answer the "Other" option and it just sends me a FAQ link. Like what the actual fuck? I contacted the fucking number because I need help from a damn human, not a fucking FAQ link you useless waste of server resources.2 -
When a client sends you an email with multiple question marks "????" Just because you havent answered an email solely stating "ok thanks" in the past 24 hours.
What am I even supposed to do with that dude?
PS we need to fix some stuff on his wordpress website thingy to which we agreed literally a day ago. First of all do you really expect we magically fixed everything today even or ehm at least try to be friendly instead of just sending a bunch of question marks thank you very much3 -
I just learnt abt Stadia from Google!
They said “imagine a world where you don’t need expensive gaming hardware to play the next release.”
But my question is “will I need an expensive service to access that?”
Is it gonna be another Netflix thingy for game? For now I’m just thinking abt how much they’d charge for hosting the game on their server, wow.6 -
Can we please make it a mandatory lesson in CS studies and related education that "No hello" is a thing?
I'm fine with greeting me before you state a question, that is polite. But it is impolite to send a DM "Hello $username" and then begin to type your three paragraph question while the other person waits for you.
Just use Shift-Enter and send it all in one message, the app supports long-ass messages!15 -
If you only pay your junior web developer $11/hour to handle projects by themselves, what kind of quality of work do you expect to have?15
-
So the football world-cup tip app I'm using with some mates got hit by a DDoS attack yesterday.
The only question I have is who the FUCK DDoS'es a motherfucking tip-app?! What the hell is there to gain?! It doesn't even involve money, just tipping for the hell of it!1 -
Just got a rejection email from the only interview I’ve gotten.... I know it’s normal but I feel so dejected and imposter-syndromey. When I get rejected from a non dev job it doesn’t make me question my ability, but because this is the first time sending out dev resumes it’s so daunting and I feel useless😞5
-
This is a legit question from an exam I just took:
What is CMR?
- A subject we did not discuss.
- Short for Customer Management of Relationships.
- Do you mean CRM?
This is a fucking joke.2 -
I hate people that sends an email with a question and when you fail to reply within their arbitrary deadline (not in the email) they email you the same question but copying your boss and your boss's boss when they could've literally just walk 20 steps to ask the same question5
-
!rant 😇
Question time for the automators out there. Has anyone stumbled upon n8n?
https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n
It looks surprisingly simple to get up and running for a no-code automation tool, just wondering if there's any communal reviews on them before I jump deep inside.question automation tool maybe i can get commissions out of them seriously - anyone use this? n8n.io this is not a sponsored ad sorry floyd no code7 -
Getting in a meeting with 6 people about a new couple of features I have to develop. Nobody can give a clear explanation. Everybody leaves more confused than before.
Every "Does anyone have a question?" just fueled the confusion to the point where nobody wanted to answer that question honestly anymore1 -
HOLY CRAP STACKOVERFLOW! I get that you're trying to make it easier for people to get their questions answered by structuring question-asking into a multi-form wizard with guides and problem-checking along the way. But when you block my question from being submitted AT ALL after I've done _absolutely everything_ you've asked and then you tell me that my question isn't valid simply because someone HAPPENED to mention in THEIR question A SINGLE KEYWORD I've included in my question? Like the word "What" or "How" or "img srcset" even though I've ALREADY READ THOSE AND THEY DON'T ANSWER MY QUESTION? That seems to be a bit of a jerk move, doncha think?
(Yes, I know the question showing in the screenshot isn't relevant to my question. I was just being a smart aleck at this point because NONE of the relevant questions I tried would unblock me.)
I guess all questions ever asked or that will ever be asked are already answered on StackOverflow.6 -
Guys, check your tags before posting on weekly rants. There are a few of you still posting under previous week's tag. The question and the answer don't match. 😛
Also, I think I just scared someone off because I mentioned the wrong tag. 😬9 -
Based on @darksideofyay "poll feature" request I made a simple bot to make them.
Just post this as a comment:
@PollBot Q: <Your question>?
A:
- <Answer 1>
- <Answer 2>
// Up to 10 answers
It will post a comment for each answer, just upvote the one you like (look at the upvotes to see the result of the poll).
P.S. It's not ideal and it's running on a mini PC in my house, so it could fail sometimes. :P34 -
Just had a fierce exchange of texts with the boss cause I couldn't make it today cause of some family issues.
To quit or not to quit is the question?10 -
Update to: https://devrant.com/rants/1573298/
So I just had the interview. It wasn't too bad, but I caught myself stuttering and saying "uhh" way too frequently. I also kind of stumped my toe on a question about explaining a computer virus to someone.
Hopefully it'll go well in the end.4 -
Worst interview question: "How fast can you do x?"
That's depends on the project scope, but I'll just throw a number out there that I think will make you happy. -
What a 'nice' feeling.. 15 mins before the conf call with a client, a coworker comes to me to ask how some feature is working. OK, wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't him developing it.. O.o I just know he was working on this, no details, no nothing.. Don't even know where in GUI to find the dialog in question.. So I asked him if he tested it and if it is working like he descirebed to the customer.. Guess what?! He didn't know the answer to either question.. nice... O.o
-
Trying to find a Stack Overflow question to answer is time consuming. I just want enough points so I can upvote an answer...
-
This is a question for freelancers. How did you get your first clients? Did you just walk into small companies who didn't have a website or did you mail them or how did you do it?3
-
I need to smash something. Why won’t some people just read? When messaging colleagues at work, I put effort into writing out everything clearly and concisely in order to minimise back and forth. But people just won’t read. I tell them A is precisely this. Then their next question: so precisely what is A?
Do people get secretly paid for exchanging more messages?4 -
Don't you just love it when you're typing up a question for Stackoverflow and in the process of forming a good question, you solve the problem! Jon Skeet would be proud of me I think
-
Yesterday I made a survey from MDN. Then I came to this question. Who made this survey, this is just... no!6
-
A couple of months ago I asked my professor about the upcoming exam, and I referenced the course from the previous semester, where they had a lecturer who actually held the course.
He was only there during that period. So as I referenced the course exam from the previous semester in because I had a question.
His response to my question was "he was a developer, I'm just a teacher. So it can't help you."
Wait, what in the actual fuck??????!!!!!!!?1 -
Well I asked what Wednesday could bring in my last rant.
Potential redundancy apparently. Company I work for has just been bought and no one knows if any jobs are safe.
The question is do I still have a interviewing suit? (One that fits)5 -
people that answer a question with another fucking irrelevant question should have a special place in hell !!
why dont you just answer the fucking question when in the first place i asked you politely and nicely !!
the question doesn't even deserve a fucking follow up question in the first place !!
you've wasted both our time with your stupidity!!8 -
A 'senior' dev just questioned us (by question, I mean scold) when I suggest writing some additional information regarding db patching scheme of our project on our Wiki, just thought it might be useful for other possibly new devs later.
Apparently that would be 'spoon- feeding' them and it is totally NOT GOOD.
Smh.2 -
Why don't people respond to emails? Everyone complains that things could be handled in an email instead of having a meeting. Well maybe you should start replying to my simple fucking questions so I don't have to send meeting notices. You always accept the meeting notices but you NEVER reply to emails! What the fuck people? Now I'm arranging a meeting for 15 minutes just to get a simple is yes or no question answered, are you kidding me here? You're part of the problem! You are THE ENTIRE problem!! You know how much of my time I've wasted getting no answers in IMs and emails?! Should I try smoke signals? It's not even a hard question! Will someone be at the site on the day we need them to be?! How hard is that question to answer!? Evidently im-fucking-possible!5
-
Fucking StackOverflow!
I'm pretty sure the downvote button serves as a reminder that my question is indeed legitimate and deserves some feedback because for FUCKSAKES WHY WOULD I ASK SOMETHING IF I ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER???
JUST HELP ME BITCHES!!!2 -
Just got my stickers 😁😁. Quick question: if I apply them to the back of my laptop, can I remove them after a couple of years if I decide to sell my laptop4
-
Just saw a post on SO where the guy was asking a question about ES8, ES9 and ES10. These don't exist yet.
He even had code examples and was adamant that he was right.6 -
"what do you wanna learn at our company?"
May seem like a trivial question, but hit me hard and I was struggeling for an answer.
(Was an Interview for a student position and I just thought "i will do the stuff you asked for"...)1 -
Just asked a question on another stackexchange site. Funny how almost all questions and answers are being upvoted. Thats something that you are not used to experience on stackoverflow :P1
-
Sorry, but if you ask a dumb question over IM/Forum/Email/any-other-internet-medium, I'm just going to send you a lmgtfy.com link.2
-
Done and redone but it's been a long time coming and it's my turn : fuck you StackOverflow.
I've been a member for a few years, and I hate the elitist idiotic community. Some people are there to help, most of them are just there to wank on their reputation.
Whenever you ask a question that is tiny bit specific, you are almost certain to have a vote to close it because "it's too vague" -even though I spent 30mn writing it with comprehensive examples, clean formatting and other users understood it perfectly as demonstrated by their comments trying to help- or any other reason that scream "I didn't understand the question or don't have the answer therefore it's a bad question"
If you are "lucky", a power user will just mark it as duplicate of another question that barely uses the same stack as yours and has one keyword in common because this illiterate fuck couldn't bother to read the full question detailing why it's not a duplicate but, oh surprise, the question they referred yours too already has an accepted answer by themselves. Abusing their reputation-bestowed powers to reference themselves for some more reputation.
Now that I am over 1k in reputation and have all 3 colours of badges, it seems like it warrants a bit more attention from the swarm and it doesn't happen as often. Which is appalling in itself, basically if you don't have enough shinys, your are considered a worthless piece of crap barely tolerated to ask questions.
The fact that big reputation users have so much power and can absolutely not be held accountable for their abusive behaviour is a recipe for power abuse3 -
That frustrating moment when you ask a Yes/No question and you get a full warstory and a conclusion to that story that doesn't answer the question and leaving you wondering why instead.
I just asked permission if I should implement this new feature on Dev/Test environment. Not gonna ask again next time. -
This week I had an interview via Zoom and the HR asked me "How would you feel positive/comfortable as an "apprenticeship person"?".
I asked them to repeat the question because it sounded weird and I thought it was maybe just my mind imagining things.
They said the same thing to which I asked why they ask me such a question thinking that this might be a new HR trap.
She (HR) felt that I was suspecting something and explained this is not a trap, but just to improve the company.
I don't think that's the case lol.
If I were to demand material things, it would not be in the company's favor.
+ how the hell am I supposed to know before even having worked with them for let's say a week?
That was strange7 -
Stackoverflow #1
Me posting question about how to prevent error.
User1: You answered your question. Its because of the error.
Me: I know. And want it gone.
User1: Proposes working yet somehow horrible workaround.
Me: Yes, that works, already did that. But i want to know why it happens.
User: Your question says you want a solution and it is one.
Me: One that doesn't solve the problem.
User2: Just give up. Don't try to find a better one.
Stackoverflow 2:
UserQ: Question how to...?
Me: Use this and that.
UserR: That is not an answer, so i downvoted and requested review.
I don't know a second community that is anti-encouraging like SO. -

When you know more programming language than your teacher... but not because you're good, just because he sucks!
Reminds me of this question: it only happens once in a while or you had you guys experienced same feelling? How did you do to turn around that in your college?2 -
I explain what im doing to someone else and ask the question "does that make sense or am i just being a twat?" most of my colleagues are honest enough to answer "you're being a twat because..." if im doing something mental

Hey guys, have a question. I have seen some colourful ++ on the right side of the total number of ++ the user has, and some others just have the total number of ++ what's that?6

some friend asked me today:
is it ok to lie to boss and say that I had a new job offer.. just to negotiate on the salary?
Me: post question on devrant13 -
Question: Have you ever worked for a toxic company? If so, did do you do something about it? Any tips?
By toxic I mean the abusive kind, where racism and sexism are "just jokes" and where clients are essentially scammed into buying software that doesn't do what they think it does.8 -
I always love getting yelled at by a client about a feature that they “use everyday” and critical to their business is just not working. Go back and look... it appears that it broke a while ago (in this case a couple months).
It’s my fault, but I do start to question other blanket statements they make. -
Today I asked a stupid question on stackoverflow
Got a reply which I already knew
I just hadn’t implemented it as it had to be put in a complex part of code step by step.
I took the time and implemented the solution step by step and it worked.
Why have I become like this.....old and stupid....2 -
Relative phones up worried about installing Adblocker as it "can store and modify the websites you visit"...my answer.."so can GCHQ, NSA AND CIA so just give in to the fact that you have no privacy and click ok"...*long pause*.."ok one more question, what's a chrome extension?"..FML

Having that teacher that just laughs at you and makes you look like an inferior piece of sh*t just cuz you ask a question in CS class..
Any question for that matter
And of course he is the head of department...
And with that: hi guys, i'm new, seems like a lot of fun here :D1 -
!rant && POLL
A lot of people are asking for poll feature. There have been many debates. While reading those, I even thought we should probably ask a debate feature before poll.
Anyway you can actually create poll rant. Just gotta be creative and a bit organized like adults (hope we all are).
1) you ask your poll question as rant
2) you enter your poll choices as comments
3) people ++ their favorite choice comment (s)
Of course this is not a poll-poll feature so there are many lacking functions. But at least it works to certain extent.
Eg Question : What is your OS?9 -
I just called somebody beside me an idiot while the call microphone was on. Quick question: how do I dig a hole and bury myself?4

Aaaannnd again a failed interview.
Just because I didn't pay enough attention to the question.
Did that ever happen to you guys? Like you just write a huge pile of code, you look at it, you're proud, but it ends up not working because you forgot one little thing that makes it completely incorrect?5 -

I was just wondering if there were gay developers around here ?
I'm not desperately looking for a man (already found mine) but It's just I don't seem to often get to meet gay peers. And well, if it can make get people to talk :)
If you're shy, just +1 or whatever, I didn't sudo the question.8 -
So. Me and Henry had a long night he is just like my best friend... i love that he doesnt question my decisions😂😂😂😂2

What are your guys thoughts on Stackoverflow? I feel like no matter what I say on there, whether it be a question, comment, answer, it’s never good enough for someone. Everyone there just seems so rude for no reason. Do you guys have the same experiences? Just curious if it’s only me or it is like this for everyone.14

Hey Guys

If I charge a 220v capacitor with 5v... Does it accumulate up to 220v or just the voltage I give it? Thanks14 -
Genuine question: Whenever an OS encounters a problem and I 'send' the report to help fix the problem, does anybody read that? Or windows just stalling?2

The beginning of my small app. Just a small question to the devRant community. As I am relatively new in Android app development I was wondering which layout is okay to work with?
The reason behind this question is that I have found that sometimes I'd move a component(e.g., button, text field) by a small fraction and boom! everything else is messed up.11 -

I have a question; when I get interrupted while coding (dinner, friends etc) I'm often "stuck" in my head while just thinking about the problem I were to solve in the code. Anyone else have this? Does it have a name and any tips to "let the code go" while not coding?5 -
Was just asked to review a new set of libraries that the "experts" from our contracting wing created.
I opened one and the readme lists its features as:
Features:
- Feature 1
- Feature 2
- Feature 3
and the Faq is:
- Possible question 1
- Answer to question 1 -
I'm just attending an online conference of a big, global company. They are redesigning their internal websites and going through all the improvements. Just then a question pops up in chat:
"Will we be able to insert moving gif files into the new sites?"
Sheeeeeesh, 1990 feelings... -
Sending email to client (the following is a short version of it)

just posted my first question on StackOverflow as a lurker, hopefully i don’t get murdered for asking a probably very simple react native question....11

Not a rant just a question, can I change my profile name? I like my name and all but I didn't think about anonymity when I created it.7

Honest question:
I did a project and delivered it, but my boss did 4 commits after that. Without giving me any feedback.
They were small things: using a different library (just one line), and removing one debug line that caused a bug.
Should I ask him for feedback or just tell him "Hey I saw your commits, I'll make sure to use the new library and never let any debug line in"?7 -
What is wrong with Stackoverflow mods and so called seasoned users? Why is everyone in such a rush to close questions and point you to other questions which has no relevance.
Once they do this, is just over. Explaining why they are wrong makes no diff. And you can't just repost. The question is just dead.
Genuinely think they should just burn in hell. Sick a holes. If you're not interested in answering or helping at least stay out of people's business.12 -
Did this question really deserve a down vote?

Genuine question, what was the most comments you've left in a single code review?
Just reviewed pull request submitted by a developer working for a contractor company and needed to leave 70 comments. Seventy.
Opened LinkedIn and saw a post from that same developer saying he left the contracting company an hour ago. I still can't believe it.14 -

Imagine this: You're a DevOps engineer or SW Engineer at StackOverFlow.
Plot: Stackoverflow is down, you can't search for the solution cause Stackoverflow is down.
Question : Is it just to consider this as a recursive problem?17 -
I wanted to suggest a functionality (keyboard shortcut) to a website. I see that their feedback button was pretty visible, which is weird because most websites I've visited first take you through 3 layers of "have you googled your question first?" before they let you send a question or feedback. Alas, I fell into the trap. First they asked me for the typical intrusive demographic info, and then they asked me marketing questions, and then... that's it. They didn't let me submit any feedback. They just took my info and left. great3

Stack Overflow people have profound buffallo bullcrap on their skulls, they are some software engineers who have fucked COBOL and BASIC, probably somewhere like NASA, just pondering out where someone post a question. They're probably some etilist cult banging a prostitute while delivering that awful downvote imitating the slap they give the chick during sex. They desire questions such as
"RANDOM_fuck_module_Abdul.method() not working in python" or "how to dock the dock by undocking" (tagged: AWS). Not things like "why does the audio tag not work in a PC but works in w3school tester?" or a genuine programming question. Fuck.
We don't tail recurse or loop abc for k in godfuck loops, huh? We make simple things as: a form, a http request to dell.
I hope there penises get rotten in the hell. Period.
this is just a part of SO.13 -
Rant portion:
Fuck me, there's not a ton of great resources for Lua. I have the book, and it's actually fucking incredible, but as soon as I have a question which I would usually Google, either it's a SO question that almost hits the mark (but absolutely does not answer my initial question) or a mailing list that DOES answer my question but holy FUCK it's difficult to read!
I 100% recommend the Lua book, though. It's remarkably helpful and covers just about every little detail of the language and it's corresponding c API, and even some of how Lua works behind the scenes.
Non-rant portion:
Finished up the first version of my library and now I'm binding it to Lua and this time around I'm using all the best practices including setting and checking metatables so that Lua can't segfault. It's going great, I properly learned about the Lua stack, and I feel good. Cross-platform double-buffered command line via a scripting language... What a way to enter 2020. Everything went so smooth that I got to 3am before I realized what even happened.1 -

Any devs out there worked building Golang microservices for a production environment?

Does it happen in other countries too?6 -

Guys, just a question. Let say in a company either your boss, senior or manager who always wants to win a conversation no matter what the issue is and whoever is at fault.
e.g.
Me: Roasters can't lay eggs
Boss: Yes they can
....
(After few minutes you are bore and want to end the conversation)
Me: Yes, yes fucken Roasters can lay eggs. You are right. Now fuck off.
Question Again:
Will you work for someone who wants to win the conversation?2 -
So, a massive formula change in the app. Client warned upfront that old data will also show revised values after change. Changes made, tested and this morning rolled out.
Support question just now (1800 local time on a Friday evening) "How do we quickly get old values in old data? Business insists."
Do I reply #####@#@!! -
a question for y'all:
just out of interest I would like to know:
are you *mainly* working on legacy stuff that is - without a question - just too old? everyone in your corp knows it needs rework but "EfFoRt JuSt ToO hiGh"? Where at the same time, most of dev time goes into maintenance and bug fixes instead of feature implementation.
If yes, do you fear that you're losing relevance on the market by not keeping up to date? What are your feelings about that situation?
did you maybe even quit a job in the past because of such situations?

Why do I want to know that?

Take a break sometimes. Go outside in fresh air and explain the problem to your self out loud. Doing this has made me ask myself the following question many times: "Why the hell have i just spent hours working on this problem and not realized this simple solution?"

I hate unnecessary meetings. It is a waste of my productive time. Also I hate daily stand ups that becomes a regular meeting with question and answer portion lol
It is like they are lazy creating a separate meeting for specific concerns and just brings it up in the daily stand ups lol nice way of doing agile things lol1 -
A formal systems modeler that iterates all provable theorems given the rules of the system and your premises. This would be completely and utterly useless since it doesn't aim to answer any specific question, just tries to answer every possible question. Since any meaningful formal system is pretty much guaranteed to have infinite provable theorems, this is really just a computerized automated fidget spinner

So here's a question for all the front-end web devs. I'm mostly a back-end dev, but currently learning Angular 6 for a personal project I'm doing.
Didn't realize that styling isn't what Angular does (or maybe it does, and I just don't know), but that you should use some framework for styling too.
So the question is: What is most commonly used, is it bootstrap or something like that?4 -
I'm about to ask a really, lets just say challenging, question.
I'm well aware that PHP is server side and JS is client side. Don't worry, i'm not as dumb as I look, but I've taken interest in the formerly known as phpjs.org project now known as Locutus. (Love their name and idea.)
My question is whether anyone has used any little bit of that project, and if so, can you use it for something like Wordpress or Joomla to have a purely serverless and dynamic website? I know. I know. Dumb. I'm just curious because the idea intrigues me more than anything to have something like that.4 -
DevRant might not be a perfect place for that question but what the hell.
This is a question for people that do side projects, not only programming but electronic and mechanical as well. If you are a student even better.
(I dont wanna discourage non students but i have limited resources here...)
So the question:
While making a project have you ever had a problem where a limited access to tools was the problem?
(maybe tools was here but nobody wanted to borrow you because of paperwork or some bs.)
I mean that you had a idea or was in middle of a project and you didnt finished/(finished but in crappy condition) because lack of proper tools didnt allow you to?
I realy need your opinion on that subject, i have a nice idea i just have to test the waters.
And please tell me if you are a student or not.8 -
Question:
I've just learned html, css, php.
JavaScript and SQL i know from Before. I have used VS since the day i started programming. For all My languages ever! The thing is that My HTML/css placement skills are a huge time stealer. I waste 90% OF webdev time to just get things to the right place even with bootstrap css. Write->compile->write...... So My question is IF i should change program for writing html/css to à more visual/interactive editor or stay with VS and hopefully i become pro designer soon.3 -
stackoverflow should just be called pythonoverflow
because that's all it is, scrub / lazy wannabe "programmers" asking basic python questions they could find the answer to in 5 minutes on google if they made even the smallest amount of effort
sorry i'm not sorry, i asked my first stackoverflow question 3-5 years after I started my career. it's not a helpdesk the moment you encounter an error with your code or have a question about it6 -

When you jokingly suggest overriding MAX_INT32 to be something 10x larger to accommodate larger trades, then come back to numerous messages about how "the number wouldn't fit into a signed int anymore" and "you can't just do that wtf", you really start to question who you're talking to 😂😂

So, I’m on interview 3 with a company looking to build a cross platform app.
They posed the question of what we should use to build it; React Native or Flutter? Or just go native with Swift and Kotlin individually? What’s your thoughts?
I’m really interested in this conversation.2 -
Please explain. I liked it when there was just one 'thing' to do here. I want to post some stupid screenshot and then point out how it's silly or awesome or just whatever... where does that go? It might be a little jab - and a question... and a story...32

So, forgive my ignorance, this isn't a troll just a question.
How are continued fractions related to modular arithmetic?
Take the following example:
70%32 = 6
70//32 = 2
which we can just represent as
6+(32*2)
Now, as a continued fraction, we would do
70/32 = 2 + 6/32
and repeating what we just did but for 6/32, as you would with a continued fraction.
Am I actually doing everything correctly here or am I missing something?4 -
If you could build anything you want, what would it be and why?

Remembering of when I first learnt about the importance of version control.
There I was, working in Visual Studio, laptop unplugged; the laptop suddenly shuts down - battery dead. Not too worried, might just have to rewrite a few lines I had not saved. Restart the machine, open VS, the file I was working on now contains strange characters - totally damaged.
Google for help, find a question on stackoverflow with the same issue (comforting moment). The answer I get:
"First question, why wasn't your code on source control?"4 -

Question...
Bout a month back went for an interview, went well, assessment and all that, but the company was busy moving so feedback was slow.
Last week got contacted by a client of a former company who is now also looking for a dev.
Company 1 just came back wanting to discuss offer, and company 2 will probably get back to me tomorrow.
Question is, there like any reason to disclose the info to them. The second guy I know, he was client for about a year.1 -
Seiously though , Javascript Developer community are toxic shit! All I did was asked a question regarding the syntax.

This guy!

So win win? -

Tenda AC5
P.S. sorry for putting as rant. I guess I'm bad at searching but want to get more coverage of the question. Also I'm pretty sure I won't be able to survive stack exchange on my own question10 -
Hopefully, simpler sintax.
And better documentation for every language/framework. Especially for the devs who are just starting, don't write documentation assuming everyone has been working with your framework for years!
That last one was more a rant than answering the actual question, but I needed to say it. It's been on my mind for a while 😑2 -
Just explain me how to get over the fear on programming...I got a lot of resources but i too feared on programming while seeing the question???6
-
I’m just thinking of building an online chat system. It’s like a clone version of discord but in my way and I don’t really have that knowledge about creating chat systems.
My question is how chat systems are made (I did use google and I didn’t find anything useful) i need someone to explain how a chat system works5 -
Random question to everyone out there:
Do you guys use a specific keyboard?
As in a mechanical or just the off the shelf keyboard? Do you invest in ergonomic ones or not?
I ask because I've been looking at ortholinear keyboards and was wondering if they work or if they're even worth it.8 -
!Rant what's so hard about multithreading for newbie programmers. (An actual question. Trying to tutor some friends who just don't get it)
It's practically a requirement for MVC.
In c# it's extremely simple. Just create a background worker with a handler/interface.2 -
For who ever makes 1 hour ticket estimates for complex bugs and features, I got a question…
Who hurt ya bro?
Either that or we need to talk about ur drug addictions that allow you to do such things on a regular basis - because that’s just not living in reality…5 -
!(rant)
I'm a student and I'm currently working on a project.
How do I get it to execute blocks of code depending on the type of value it receives in a variable?
or maybe
Should I just use some other method or workaround to do it?
I'm not sure if I should post my question on SO.
(I think it's a dumb question)
--
If it gets (request.getParameter) a string { execute code }
else if {
//gets an int
execute code
}4 -
"This question is off-topic. It is not currently accepting answers." (not my question, but by a newbie who, for some reason I will never find out, tried to use an outdated Ubuntu version)
Seen that bullshit so many times.
If you don't have a minute to ask a question to a new contributor, but you do have the time to downvote or close questions, do you really think you are doing the community a favour?
I see that AskUbuntu is not a little bit better than StackOverflow. I will just shut up and leave the assholes alone then they can tell the newbies that they're not welcome on any StackExchange and that's it.3 -
I just got a necromancer badge for an answer to my own question on SO.
Still trying to figure out how I should take this. -
Just asked a question that I considered myself as too "Too broad" but I don't know where to start myself.
Wish me luck. -

Just a small question: how do you guys handle documentation, version control, what technologies do you use (programming languages and frameworks if any)?3 -
I am starting a project and i need to wrote somewhere all the steps i will follow
Question :
Where you do guys note the steps you`ll follow?
Like a software or something ? or just classic paper3 -
Odd question to a dev community who are naturally socially awkward that talks to their ducks.
Even then, for those of us who do have a social life, we just chill when we need to. Anyone who "tries" to balance their life would find it very stressful. Just go with it. Do what you need to do at that scheduled time and when time is up, do the other thing that you promised yourself.
Others: "Easier said than done! You don't have to push releases and squash bugs in critical moments!"
Then that's a trigger to the question, "Do you even live, bro? There's more to life than just dev all day err'day."
Don't think too much. -
Damn, I hate it if asking a question leads the counterpart to telling long background stories. Please: Just. Answer. The. Question.
I have my own thoughts and reasons why I ask and don't need your interpretation of my question. If I was not specific enough, please ask back.9 -
So I started a new job. The software is totally proprietary, and honestly pretty outside of my specialty.
And I fucking hate how every time I ask a question someone laughs.
I'm sure they're trying to keep the tone light but after a while it just pisses me off.
Don't make me feel guilty for trying to get assimilated.2 -
Recently (about two weeks ago, iirc), I posted a question about peoples interest in a "more moderate" CoC.
Based a bit on my own thoughts, and various things posted by others around here, not just in response to my question, I've created the first draft of such a CoC.
I'd appreciate peoples thoughts about it. I have everything set up in GitHub for review/submissions.

Reading some system design study materials.
Unless it's literally a startup from scratch. I feel like that proper response to the "design youtube/twitter" question should be: I really hope your product team comes up with better requirement than just design a product, get to it -
Hi all. I just have a quick question. Why is Wordpress so hated in the web development community? Is it not considered "real@ development? As someone who is decent in HTML and CSS, should I use Wordpress to make websites or just stick to HTML and CSS (trying to learn JS at the moment)14
-
For the stress ball is that +100 on a single rant or overall? @dfox
& just for kicks I'll put the question in code form... well, kinda.

Not a rant, just a quick question. If I very little interest in studying algorithms, will I ever be allowed into a tech shop?2
-
Just ordered new laptop - the question now is which distro to go for? Suggestions? I'm looking for something new as have good experience with Fedora and Debian but want a new challenge.10
-
Stack overflow people are all so fucking annoying, but every now and again you get a rare gem that ACTUALLY helps you, and doesn't just close your question for no reason or downvote without an answer. Like, I'm sorry I didn't spend my entire like learning computer science, I just have some questions!2
-
In retrospective, I believe everyone else find me one of the most annoying coworkers they ever had.
Sitting all the way back there, all alone, doing that "black magic"-shit that's called the Internet and none of us understand. The Internet is a fad that will pass, just you wait and see. How come he gets paid at all? Why doesn't the managers change his job description so he can do a proper job, like help out in the dinosaur business we're all so dedicated to. And if I try to suggest a new task for him - why does he always answer with question after question? Why do I have to explain? Why can't he just understand what I'm thinking? Screw him! I hate him.1 -
okay I feel dumb for this question but for my next internship I need Linux on a laptop.
I have two options.
1, Current laptop with windows dual boot or vm
2, shitty laptop just to Linux.
help me out guys :-/10 -
Maybe it's a stupid question, but why the fuck there are still path length limitations in Windows in 2020???
Why there isn't a virtual automatic workaround for this issue?
Sometimes I just can't make it shorter...3 -
Been working on pen testing an old ass web app written in a combination of 4 languages with the primary being asp, serious question for the older generation was concatenating SQL statements ever best practice or are the mob that wrote this just useless?

Why do people try to answer questions they don't even know what mean...
I want to use a package that's made for nodejs and it's using one of the core module of nodejs (http), so that's a problem because react-native doesn't have that module and I can't just simply install it (it won't work), so I search the web in the quest for a solution maybe a drop-in replacement or a polifill or something, I got to this question that's exactly what I would ask if I were to do the question myself https://stackoverflow.com/questions... asking for a polyfill to use http module in react-native, and the only answer is from a guy that I don't think he even knows what he is talking about, his answer don't make any sense with relation to the question and doesn't even address package http nor polyfill so obviously he didn't even know what the title of the question means...
If you don't fucking know something, just stay fucking silent don't reply with giberish stuff that don't have nothing to do with what people are asking. You don't have know it all, don't feel you have to... and don't try to answer stuff you don't even know.4 -
Just a question, is possible in Android Studio to display a fractions using strings?
For example, instead of (m1 + m2) / v2 use a fractions2 -
If I ever work with people who use Python professionally I will go postal in under a day they are some of the most unprofessional snarky little fucking bastards on the internet !
Apparently a question with a million hits who's cure all answer DOESN'T WORK, is me being stupid.
So question, how many of you when looking at a third party client that doesn't have great documentation, export class data into a file to look it over at your leisure by using a serializer that just dumps the shit into said file so you can look at it ?
I mean fire and forget. Just works. Just descends into the data structure and starts dumping field values. Done. One line of code.
Json.PUTMYSHITINASTRING(FUCKINGCLASS) ???????
DON'T SAY MY METHOD OF WORKING IS BAD ! ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE FUCKING EXPORT CODE AS A CHECK_CIRCULAR BOOLEAN PARAMETER INDICATING IT SHOULD WORK BETTER THAN IT FUCKING DOES AND THE FUCKING DEBUGGER CAN REFLECT THE OBJECT !!!!4 -
Ok, probably a really dumb question.
I'm trying out Docky, and I really like it. Buuut... for some reason when I maximize windows, it leaves a section for the toolbar and just displays the bottom part of the wallpaper under the part it's not using.
How can I change this, or can I not?2 -
Question about git. I worked on dev branch and made 10 commits.
Then I squash merged 10 commits from develop to master and made a release build.
Now problem is if I make a pull request from develop to master bitbucket will still show that master is behind (because develop has fixes in 10 commits while master has all of them squashed in 1 commit).
Now my question is whats the best way to make sure master and develop are synced (basically that master would have everything what develop has) ?
should I just merge master into develop back after the release?9 -
Just a small question for my own curiosity here.
Have you ever heard about the Oz programming language?8 -
Hey all,
This is no rant, its just a sincere question.
any of you got a good upbeat playlist on youtube you can share for us to listen to while coding...
?? for now i listen to Frog Leap Studios ... Guys amazing9 -
Sometimes, I feel like the guy in Swordfish who is getting head but also has to hack into a system in 60 seconds or else he dies. The question is: would you just let yourself enjoy those 60 seconds and die? Bc holy shit, that’s a really nice way to go out.2

Just a legal question here.
Is web scraping legal in USA? I am asking here for the sole reason that I am sure that someone might have developed projects with web scraping.
I've heard that Walmart does it a lot.24 -
Just a quick question: do you think investing in Ruby/on Rails is a good choice? I really like the language, but every time I mention it I feel like an alien.3

Sorry, technical question but my SSD is running out of space...
Not sure why the old versions are still here... they're taking up a few GBs... Can I just delete them? They're not in Add/Remove7 -
I have no unique experience… I was trying to fix a bug and just looked it up on google and the exact answer showed up. This happens every time… every question I ever ask was asked before me…5

I just realized that I have actually mastered the ways of the rubber duck debugger with the help of ... stackoverflow.
I just couldn't get my head around a problem thought about it for hours.
Googled for similar solutions, but didn't find anything.
In the end, I decided I'd do something I usually wouldn't and post a question on stackoverflow.
While carefully writing out and explaining my problem, it just made click.
I had it...
It works now...2 -
So it's a basics question I know, but is the main difference between abstract classes and interfaces is just that you can use non-abstract methods in abstract classes but not in interfaces ??3

was doing a matrix determinant solving and came across this method of solving it via gaussian elimination. just one question, WHY?
there's the simple method of solving them, why to use complex stuff. ://6 -

Just a little question about the Flutter web version
I'm trying to run one of my old projects on web (Flutter 1.9)
But it gives me a bunch of errors about not importing some packages (flare_flutter is one of them)
So...can I do anything about it or should I just wait to them to support it? -
I'm no iOS developer, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I was told a particular app I'm looking to make an Android version for was built in objective-C and uses Ruby and AWS for the backend. so presumably I'd need to plug into AWS for my app,im just not sure how Ruby fits in...2

Hey guys just a small question, when should nodejs be used. Ik for chats and stuff its great i used socket io before but i mean if a client wants a very basic website is it worth using nodejs or should i just stick to php. (Php haters kindly dont answer)1

Hey guys,
Just a simple question: I've got 2 raspberry pi's, and I use them only for VPN + PiHole at the moment. Do you have any idea of what I could implement? Maybe a Flask web app?1 -
Pps with Nuxt experience, please help: Nuxt has a config option "ssr" that can be set to false: https://nuxtjs.org/docs/...
My question is: what is the point of using Nuxt if you set ssr to false, considering that I would use a lighter solution for static sites, or just Vue for an SPA?8 -
I'm so excited! A company in Scotland has just offered me a role, where for the first 2-4 weeks I'll receive Angular training.
My question is - how difficult did you find angular to learn? Were there any concepts you struggled to understand?4 -
Silly CSS question that i couldn't find a solution for it, how to adjust text inside a border so the text just fit it exactly without creating extra space in left and right, check the image11

Just a question people. Consider me a noob.
I have worked on php for a project. It's not too advanced or something but I don't get why people hate it so much.
I really need reasons.2 -
I've got an idea for a site I'd like to make, nothing complicated, just a little project to open source and show what I can do. I primarily use Rails and React, but this project could be done in just React with a Firebase (or similar) backend. My question is, do I make a Rails API just to show some of my rails code, or go with what I'd recommend a client do and go with Firebase? Thoughts?2

When you ask a question on HN, hoping it will become one of those awesome resources for learning new stuff to use in your small pet project, and it only gets 2 votes and just sits there for the past 3 days...

Got a quick question here. If I have a program that uses the Google Maps API for it's location services, the Google Maps API becomes a dependency for my program right?
Just wondering if the term "dependency" can really be attached to any service/library/program that someone's application might require.5 -
What are the differences between a religion and a conspiracy theory? is the question I was just asking myself.
Maybe the spiritual element is what conspiracy theories (or, actually, any kinds of theories) lack?7 -
Just want to ask a question here to avoid the downvote on stackoverflow.
Does apache + mpm_event + PHP-FPM capable of handling 500 simultanous requests, on a server with 4CPU cores and 16Gb of RAM? -
Not a rant more of a guidance question. That being said,
What are some of the best websites, tutorials, books to becoming a UI/UX designer? Or just a graphic designer?
Thank you all in advance 😁7 -
This is a TypeScript question, but that shouldn't matter.
Would you use dependency injection to get access to your controllers inside your router files, or would you just import them?2 -
The worst part of being a dev is talking to non-dev people. They cannot understand simple logic. You need to describe things twice or more. They think you should solve the entire problem when they ask just a single question instead of answering this question.
I even cannot understand what those people are talking about most of the time. -
It's all about asking the right question...
Original question that has had me stuck for years: "How do you load landscape images as landscape and not portrait? (some sort of default, always loads it with the longer dimension vertically).
A new insight that I got today while using one of these apps: "How can I rotate an image after it's loaded?"
Very easy apparently...
As long as you keep track of the current angle, just reload and set a Rotation property to (current + 90) % 360...1 -
Don't you just fucking love it when you ask a question or report an issue on gitHub, and they back-handedly slap you with a "that's a coding question, do it on SO", and wham they close the issue.
how fucking anal and lazy would you have to be?1 -
I just want to say that I am extremely irritated that the question of which webserver to use to serve static files inside a docker container has become political.12

Yeah I know SO is the place to ask such stuff, but I still wanna ask it here.
I have started with OpenCV for image processing. The sad thing is it is available for python only. Is there a PHP alternative? The best I have found is ImageMagick which doesn't come close to OpenCV. -
Major question in my mind is if they are using custom routing or not.
Obviously some types of sites would likely not be incredibly popular among ordinary folks, and then its just a matter if making ordinary folks feel that everything is ok and just fine, so they don't notice the fucking rot.1 -
I just saw a question about a certification. If it's worth or pointless, and I am on the same situation.
I have the opportunity to get a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. Of course, not free, it's about 90dlls.
So what did you think guys? Worth it? -
Hey so this isn't a rant, but just a question.
What books, tutorials, anything do you recommend for getting into AI? I'm going into my third year as a CS major and I'm just really curious.
Either self learning AI (maybe called machine learning) or game AI preferred
Thank you :) -
Just a question...
I’m using semantic-ui as a framework for web designing, but is it necessary to learn to create my own design from scratch?
Need your opinions fellas. -

Question: You have a bag of balls with mixed red and black balls. It is dark and you can’t see. How many do you pull out blah blah blah.
Answer
Is there a reason you can’t switch the light on? And do you really have to sort balls in the dark?
Question: Same question as above, with socks
Answer
Just wear mismatched socks. No one cares what you wear. What are you, a Miss Universe? No one is looking at your socks, or any other part of your clothing. Get back to work.
