"Everyone must attend this meeting. It's really important that you all attend".
Me: *walks into meeting with other co-workers
Host: So what should we discuss today?
Co-worker 1: We can discuss how we did on the recently completed project.
Host: We'll save that for next meeting.
Co-worker 2: Any strategic plans for upcoming project?
Host: That too, for next meeting.
Me: Black Panther.
Host: That was actually a great movie. I saw it over the weekend. Who else saw it? ....
Me (in my thoughts): Just wow! 😂
PS: I still haven't seen that movie.2 -

Pm: OK what you've got here?
Me: a bug, haven't tested yet
Pm: *grabs a phone* follow me we will do it
Me: mkay
Pm: *attaches it, goes to the DOM inspector, starts clicking random divs* OK where the fuck the canvas is?
Me: uhmm there in this tree
Pm: *inspects the canvas element for a few sec* what do you think?
Me: ... ... Well the bug was that it wouldn't resize properly after you change to landscape
Pm: *rotates the phone back and forth looking at the canvas properties*
Pm: gotcha, see? Width and height
Me: yes, those are the default html prope...
Pm: now see, there's another width and height. That's the malfunction right there. I'm telling you.
Me: no, this is css. It overrides the html properties there
Pm: well, say what, it doesn't
Me: no it does, that's how html works for decades already

Joined a new project at work a few months ago.
Cloned the git project and waited...
and waited...
2 minutes later download finished.
Checked the size it's 2.6Gb
Me: why is it so big?
Senior developer: this project has been under development for 15yrs.
Checked git history and someone committed a 2.1Gb binary two years ago...*sigh*8 -

I got my first job as a full stack dev when someone saw my web project on github.
It was my first ever web project and don't know if I'm actually ready to work.7 -
Boss: don't worry about the architecture, it's an one-off project, just make it work...
2 months later...
Boss: hey, remember that one-off project? we need to add in a few more features... Also can we reuse that code for this new one-off project we have to do for this new client?3 -
When you begin to hate your project, your job, your life...But suddenly things work and then everything is ok again!2
-
When you learn your project will be launched Monday in an email sent to the whole company, just before the weekend...
I'm not even kidding. No one on our team was consulted if the app was ready or not.
There was no infrastructure in place to even deploy the app. Everything had to be done in a hurry over the weekend to deploy something half baked, thanks to that idiot project manager who told his boss everything was ready.
Two colleagues ended up doing this work over the weekend, but looking back, if I was the one having to get something deployed over the weekend, I would have just refused and come back to work as usual on Monday and watch that idiot explain why it's not live. -

Seeing on some other posts I wanted to rant about my uni’s computer science community.
Some background: This is a small uni, not like a community college definitely a little bigger. Located somewhere in WV. There is 2-4 girls in every CS class I have had and at least 27-30 guys.
The reason why I mention this is because there is no sense of team work at all. When it comes to exams or projects I take the initiative and make either quizlets (being freaking nice here) share them or take times after school in the library to work on projects. If I have a solution I will share it, I will try to help you in your problem. If I know how to do it of course.
The real issue is all those CS experts that already fixed or finished their programs, the ones on the top of the class. Is as if the moment I ask something related to the project I am already dumb for not have figured it out on my own.
There is the typical CS student that just tries and gives up or just gives up without trying and the other kind of CS student that does that. Doesn’t help anybody else, wants to be on the top all the time.
What I am trying to say here is that it just feels like a competition all the time. (I consider myself in between this two types of students cause I wasn’t born a genius but I do try my ass off on projects) however, I feel like guys see me every new semester in a CS class and think “oh wow how is she still here? Wait did she pass?”
All I say is “yeah I fucking did, with a C or B but here”. So I don’t know, first rant posted 👏🏽🙆🏽♀️10 -

I am actually a bit angry that there is no fucking thing to rant about at my new work - no dumb clients, no dumb project managers (I am doing project management with the boss and the company is somewhat startupish) and the project is interesting as well.6

feel super motivated to work on important project

My current situation:
Manager: How is Project A coming? Project A is top priority. I would like to see a PR today with fixes to the current tickets.
Me: Project A is priority! Sure!
*after 2hours*
Manager: How is project B coming along? I did not see any PR’s coming in?
Me: I am working on project A as it is priority.
*after 1 hour*
Manager: How is project C coming? There is one ticket pending. We need a fix for it today asap!
Me: Starts project C as project A would take more time. Starts Work on project C.
*after 1 hour*
Boss: How is project A coming? Where is the PR?
Me: As you said you need a fix for project C today, i started working on project C as it has only 1 ticket to be fixed.
Boss: I told you project A is priority, why are you working on project C?
Me: *doesn’t reply*
*after 1 hour*
Boss: There is a ticket pending in project D. Did you make a fix for it?
*This is my usual day at work.
*I am the only developer in my current company. It’s not a software development company.

When you decide to meet up and one member doesn't show up at first meeting.
So I sent an email about the research I did on the feasibility of the project and how to implement a core requirement. 2 days later & no response yet..

So you have an organization that flirts with scrum and wants to be agile. You have non-crossfunctional teams who don't know what agile is. You have product owner who doesn't want to do backlog, but instead acts like project manager and asks for statuses and assigns tasks to peple. He wants the teams to find out what needs to be done and fill the backlog themselves - and then raport to him. You have business owers who noone knows who they are. You have project managers, who don't fit the whole scrum hierarchy. These project managers insist calling scrum masters "team leaders". Also these project managers think scrum is silly and don't want anything to do with it. And then you have higher program management that think this whole scum thing is better than sliced bread and everything is going just dandy!
Oh yeah, also highest organization management thinks that we are on the right track. We just need be more agile but less agile and work more efficiently whitout really saying, what the hell are we supposed to do.

Rant: i have a software firm, recently got a new project, found a freelancer to work on the project.
He is a very good developer but he works on the project only when he wishes to work and I am left to answer the clients about project delays.
It's so frustrating that I can't get angry on him otherwise he will leave the project and on the other side I have to answer clients. I am stuck with all the tensions in the world.21 -
Working on a Xamarin (.Net) project in the morning, in the evening I work on React Native project. And a little time at night with Java side project, also sometimes I do some support to a native Android App.

1) Let me work with devs without me having to explain fundamentals of programming
2) Stop devs from copy pasting code from StackOverflow or any other project without actually understanding what it does
3) Get devs to actually read and understand project documentation FIRST before jumping into any programming work1 -

While doing my undergrad, we had to submit a major project in last sem. We were grouped into teams. Spent whole semester doing nothing and near the deadline, a friend bought a project and i just changed the footer. On submission, we had the discussion with the external lecturer who viewed our project and he asked us to write down the number of tables we used in our project in separate paper each. A friend wrote 5 , I wrote 12, and the friend who has bought the project wrote 17. Turns out there were 11 tables. I said someone must have dropped a table.. And later made up saying i was doing the database and others were doing the rest of the project.
It was one of the lamest excuse we made to escape such uncomfortable situation. -

I have a personal project I work on. Basically, getting paid fulltime to work on that...
No meetings or bs, just me working on what I want to work on. -
Really need to find a small project to work on, every other small project I start turn's itself up to 11 in scope and ends up getting shelved -.-
Why can't i just keep things small!
Plus any other project that stays small ends up requiring something complicated that I've never done, why do I do this to myself...4 -
I hate it when I start coding a React Native project on Monday at 8:30 am at work and my right lung malfunctions.3

Entirely my fault. I was getting frustrated that the CSS I had copied and pasted from an old project was not appearing properly. It just wouldn't work. Spent an hour before I lost my shit and closed the IDE, to discover that I was saving the old project repeatedly and hadn't even touched the new project which was serving.

Introduce Git - Promote Collaboration
In the real world they won't work alone. Instead of giving individual projects give them a module to work for.
Example project: Library System
Student 1: Sign-up module
Student 2: Log-in module
Student 3: Book sorting module
Student n: x module
Output: A working system
With this approach, students will learn to work with a team and communicate properly about the project they're working for.1 -
Wrote some code. Didn't work.
Cleared all build caches, deleted project files and re-opened the project from scratch. Code still doesn't work.
Copied the same code over to a new project. Works.

We had to finish a student project, our project leader had done some work on the project before and his algorithm to detect an event was complete bullcrap.
I took it in my hands to rewrite the algorithm with the risk that it doesn‘t work and i hadn‘t done any work i could show, which would result in a bad grade.
Luckily my algorithm worked better in orders of magnitude and we managed to deliver on time -

2. Gradle throws shitload of errors
WHY!?7 -
My best experience this year was to be the project manager of a software project and my worst experience was to work alone on this project.
-
Back to Excel for control project, sih 😢, just because my non tech boss can't work with JIRA and it confused him. Do you guys know any idiot friendly control project before I having a heart attack?2
-
If im working on 1 private project and another idea (that could be even better than the one im working on) comes into my mind, am i supposed to stick and finish this current project or work on both projects in parallel?3
-
"This time I am gonna work with tests", literally me everytime I am starting a god damned new Project.2
-
Working on a project in which the work is planned around what I'm already good at, isn't much use.
Yes, the person who is paying for the project, would want only someone with experience (good experience) to work on the project.
But really I'd like to work on stuff which will be challenging (in terms of learning new stuff). So yes, I'd like to get paid for learning! -
I used to work in project tailored for specific companies used by at most 100 daily users.
Right now I work in a project with 1mln unique daily users. I am on a call where it was decided to scrap one feature because it generates "only" 20k monthly usages. This is more traffic generated then all my provides projects combined :D3 -
Project manager: "we need someone who isn't busy to work on the database for a few weeks"
*Fullscreen picture of Windows blue screen of death*
Me: "what the fuck bug after bug"
Project manager: "ouch you better work on that ASAP we are behind"
Coworker: -_-
Me: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Scope creep and hidden requirements. Project seemed to get bigger every week. 4 months salary for 7~9 months of actual work.
-
The moment when you work your ass off on a project and you don't get alot of praise
vs
The praise you get for that 5 minute side project / fuck around you done....
Wtf!? -
Whenever I hear "this <person> is going to work on <project>" I edit my "bus factor of 1" wiki page.
Teams work on projects. People work on teams.5 -
Does anybody else have the project where every time you try to change something, no matter how small, you always end up screwing it up and needing a bunch more time to fix it just to get back to the starting position?
I have this project I've done, a custom Ambilight system for my TV, and everytime I try to add a feature the lights stop working altogether... Tried adding detection of when I start my media player to automatically start the Ambilight mode (I made several modes, one of which is just shine a certain color all the time which is great if you don't want to use normal lights and want to be able to control the lights from your phone).
I had the code for detecting app start and stop from before when I implemented it for a slightly different system. I just changed the few things that are different and poof, no more lights... I managed to forget the other system checked a flag after every process exit and overrode the mode and I removed the setting of the flag, but not reading of it...
Every single time I do changes on this it's something... Other projects sometimes go smoothly, sometimes not, but this one just doesn't want to be kind to me....
Results are awesome, though :)5 -
Made a little change to the project.
Went out to grab coffee.
Project broke.
Forgot what change was made.
2 hours spent tracking down the change.
People ask me why I work 12 hours a day. Here's why.4 -
Product needs you to work on a new high priority project ASAP after you finish your current work, deadline ~4 weeks. Also product hasn't finished their side of the breakdown yet.
ugh i just wanna be retired3 -
High priority Bugs from the legacy system were pushing productive work out of the sprint enough that a 1 year project due in 2 months was sitting on 6 months of backlog of just my work. There are days where having 20+ years at the company is not a bonus. Fortunately I finally got through to the boss that he wouldn't make any ground on the project at this pace and he had the PM step in. Last sprint I worked on the project nearly full time.
-
i want to hone my skills by starting to work on a new project but it feels like i have writers block (coders block??) ugh
-
I was assigned to maintain a legacy project today. I downloaded the source code, configured the database server and imported the project in visual Studio. For a tiny, blissful fraction of a second, I expected everything to work on the first try.6
-
Can anyone give me links to any Devrant API? Thinking of starting work on creating a Native Android Devrant app as a side-project.3
-
Tried to propose using Clojure on a project at work. Manager comes back with, "That seems nice, but why isn't it mainstream?"2
-
"Ventablack is the blackest object in the world"
Bitch my project manager makes me work all night and you haven't seen my Dark Circles :|1 -
Have anyone work on chatbot with python? I want to start this project any help will be highly appreciated. I am newby to AI8
-
How is it to work on an open source project?
Can anybody add something and who checks if the added feature works correctly?2 -
I hate when you finish a project, and have no idea what to work on next! I despise feeling so idle!4
-
When you're in a two hour status meeting where you only had 5 minutes of work on the project -_- the workload was far overrated2
-
I find myself faced with a morel dillema. Do I work on a pet project of mine and finally get some leadway or play overwatch?
-
Named my current project "dumpster fire" so I can say "This dumpster fire doesn't even get through compiler anymore!" will work on that level too.2
-
I was at school the whole last week, and could work on my Ruby / React project the whole time, but now that I'm back to work, I forgot how to PHP 😅
-
Take project notes on an exam pad.
Unfortunately, this is something I see virtually every day at work... Even while they're at their computer with our online project tracker open in front of them.1 -
I really should work on that project to finish it on time... lets work some hours on this side project!
-
After days of work we finally deployed a finished project to integration for the client to test.
Client calls... They decided to use a different technology. Project is cancelled. Wat? -
Our newest project has 8 leaders / managers pluss project owner and dedicated process manager and 1 developer to do the actual work.
The developer is a rented consultant.1 -
I have spare time. I could work on my project. The project is on my laptop that is at home. I didn't sync the files. Fuck.
-
Tfw you accepted a project you thought you "can" work on, but over time it turns out that you won't be able to finish the project on time.
:')7 -
mess around inside bootstrap.css project at work, make a push, sit back with my popcorn n watch the world burn2
-
Its fucking impossible to utilize less than 8 hours for a 5-9. I cant work on my side project with this pace
Please help me how to optimize my time so i can both work this 9-5 job and also work on my side project from 5-95 -
That all too familiar cross road, I have an evening to code, I have some key features of a large (work related) project to carry on with but I also have more side projects than I can possibly complete.
Side project or work project? I seem to find myself here most evenings.1 -
https://devrant.com/rants/5124329/...
Half a year later, absolutely NOTHING has changed. Except I have more work on my plate in addition to that big project and those integrations and shit… I’m fucked. So badly need some time off, but ain’t got time for that.3 -
1. A work environment that has a high level of trust.
2. I feel like I have to mention project aristotle of Google...
3. Psychological safety (( from project aristotle ))
4. Result oriented work environment
5. Just love tbh... a working environment that is a soft place to land -
When you are in the middle of a project, and get an idea how to solve an other project's problem..
I don't know if I should be happy to solve the first problem, or sad to cut my work on the current project. -
Trying to explain to my work that I don't want to *not* work. I just don't want to work on this *particular* project for a while 🙃1
-
I want to work on my project (well it's just a copy of another website) so bad, but it's the exam period. Mendokusē4
-
A few days ago I took some time off at short notice to help someone close to me with their medical condition.
On the same day the CEO of the company made a request that only I could've fulfilled out of 12 devs so yesterday I was reprimanded for it.
Why don't companies do something to actively increase the bus factor on projects? -
Have you ever been in that situation where you really wanted to start a pet project, but you didn’t have the energy to do it after work, but in the same time you didn’t want to work on your project you have been assigned to at your job, so you slacked all day because you didn’t have the guts to work on your pet project at your job? I’m pathetic.3
-
How pervasive is underestimating project/sprint work to land contracts and expecting devs to make it work in time?
How often are you expected to work more than 8?2 -
Okay. Four work days remaining this week, but still six days worth of work. My project manager sucks at maths.3
-
Finished my first freelance web project today. Spent 11 hours coding it. Another 10 hours trying to get it to work on the browser.
-
Thinking of logging into work to do a side project and learn some new tech.... bc I don't have time to work on it during the week...
And there's no personal use case to do this stuff...2 -
Me: I'm gonna work on my personal project on my lunch hour!
*spends whole hour investigating one brand-new bug and fixing it*
Me: :/1 -
Starting to work on a project as a trainee.
Trying to deploy the project on Eclipse.
404 Error when using my browser, while it did work some weeks ago, when I launch it to try.
"Hey, clean the project, and the Tomcat directory, and it will magically work."
It did work.
/shrug -
~16 hours. It was during the start of my career. Like every other project manager, mine had also made an unrealistic plan for the project I was on.
10/10 wouldn’t agree to work like that again. -
How does it feel to work in a project where it doesn't have a proper planning ?. Anyone experienced?8
-
When the only comments in your team's entire project is for code that doesn't work, as if everyone's backspace key broke simultaneously
-
Boored of work. Anyone got any open source projects that need help ? I can help in python, sql, C and C++. 🤷3
-
Who else gets triggered when their big project does not work at a presentation? Happened to me at one point -_-3
-
The client will fuck me if I don't finalize the project, no I will fuck him, let him wait for another year hahaha, I have to live now.1
-
When someone asks me to work on a project and I check if I've got the time to work on it
try:
import time
except ImportError:
print ("Time not available")
Result: "Time not available" -
looking for a nice side project very badly..😖😖it sucks when you have nothing interesting to work on.3
-
Music on, use half an hour on selecting project to work on, start working and forget time... Realize it's 4am and goto sleep 😐
-
First time using Expo in an already built React Native project. Good thing makes project lighter and easier to work with on slow devices.
However:
Bye bye Gradle build
Hello Build queued, let's see how this will go -
Got a new notebook for work, got all Projects from tfs and it's like every single project I want to build has false references
-
Guys have you ever seen a good project? Or at least heard that there somewhere exists a project that isn't a complete shit to work on.4
-
I 'm auditing the code of a client application and :
How the fuck do you create an external dependency (private npm) with it doesn't work outside of your project?!?!?!?
If it needs your project to work IT CAN'T BE AN EXTERNAL DEPENDENCY!!!! -
Gets really excited thinking about possible new project.
Starts work on it.
2-3 days interest still there.
Gets bored after and puts project on halt.1 -
I finally have a week off and the first thing I do is start a project exploring some solutions for the project at work send help.
-
I had a meeting 5days after accepting work from a client (the project was basically a mirror version of your typical job board with extra features).
The client and our project manager joined forces in labeling my progress/project/work "untouched" because it was simply still undeployable.. fml -
I just love when my IT lead decides to take himself off of projects to work on his personal, now work project, and leave me with two projects that I am the main dev on. 😑😑😑😑
-
Besides my study I work as an student assistant at the university. My next project is developing an platform for children to learn the basics of programming. Really excited about it! Let the next generation meet with our work!
-
Tech and product teams have to be aligned. If not, there’s chaos where dev teams suffer. No skunk project(s), no adhoc project(s), No special or pet projects for the CTO or Product Manager. Figure out what needs to get done, plan a road map, plan milestones to get there, consider the folks who ACTUALLY does the work. Protect your teams work-life balance.1
-
I was assigned a new project today. Lead developer left for two weeks of vacation last Thursday. Project lead is assigned full time on another project from tomorrow.
Tasks exist but they do only described with headlines the areas of the application.
A specification does not exist. I have a graphic prototype.
The project is not complete and already well beyond estimated work hours.
How is your Monday?3 -
Why oh why, why does my project not work... 2 hours later, "Oh Damn, I forgot a semicolon. That's it, I'm switching to Kotlin."1
-
If you have a big project in mind, try to build it with a friend. Sometimes it suckes to work on a proect alone.1
-
is it better to work on a project every day even when i dont feel like it but then do like 80% of the work for the next milestone with a shitty code (done alot faster)
or
work on a project when i have the will to work on it but then do 30% of the work for the next milestone with a clean code? (done alot slower)3 -
When you did an internship and hope the employees don't have to work on your project before the score is given.
-
When you ask the project owner for a workflow explanation and his reply is "I don't know how it should work yet, just do whatever you get first", you know it's time to ditch the bastard along with his project.
-
When you badly want to work on an update to your Android app but you're stuck with a stupid javascript project.
-
I was given a project at work, and instead of committing a src directory, all of the work the person before me did was in the compiled dist directory. fml1
-
I would like to work with someone on an simple open source project, to test git. Is anyone interested?9
-
I did basically nothing today at work, because my seniors refactored/restructured the project all day and I was not allowed to work on any issues, becausebecause it would just cause conflicts1
-
Thought I would work on a side project this evening to make my life easier at work. *spends the next 4 hours setting up my works dev environment at home.*
-
Starting to get so depressed working on my Angular project at work that I have to code anything in react after work just to stay sane. 😭
-
I love how after updating my ubuntu I need to upgrade node-sass in every single project I need to work on.4
-
Start a project with new idea that will totally work. Rinse and repeat every 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months 😅
-
Project manager, knows nothing/little about the project... Always sends new features to be added only to be removed 1hr later 😣😣, you have experienced nothing until you work under 1
-
So I have a client project that needs to be delivered in 3 months. The project size is significantly huge, so a lot of devs will work with me. Our seniors have its architecture defined in micro services but we have no clue how they work. I would really appreciate some community inputs on how can we scalable-ly use micro services.
-
Why can't Eclipse save non-project-specific customisations somewhere centrally? Why do I have to customise my editor fonts, colours and hotkeys again every time I open up a new work space? Why would they think I could want different editor fonts, colours and hotkeys on every different project I work on?
I so hate Eclipse!
I so hate IDEs!4 -
What must be the proper steps to work on a project or on a side project and finish it without losing interest ✌🏻️5
-
My top goal is work more on my project https://github.com/RiderExMachina/... and get it up and going.
-
Is anyone looking for some work? I have a small project in c# and angular that I can't continue with due to some IT issues4
-
I have started reading The Phoenix Project and I suspect that story is based on current situation in company I work for ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

How do you use to keep trace/state of a project at work? Teamgantt? Asana? Pipefy? Slack with integrations?4 -
Spent a week writing my own orm because I didn't think codesmith would work with my project. After it's finally done, a co-worker tells me I can just add a reference to the existing orm project solution and use that. Fml
-
Whenever there is a new project to work on, I get the complex parts, I work for 10 Hours a day. While others get simple tasks, go home on time.
Question do I take that as a compliment ? -
I'm doing my final project for apprenticeship with mvvm. I hate all the preparation I have to do before I can start the real work.
-
Best:
Got to work on an interesting and kind of meaningful project from ground up and opportunity to work remotely without any cons (except for getting a brand new macbook pro).
Worst:
Using AWS.6 -
Someone should give me a Christmas gift by giving me a remote project to work on that will get me paid.
I am a kotlin and python DEVELOPER. "I could work on Android apps and web backend"
"MERRY CHRISTMAS" -
Today is a productive day but also an unproductive day because I have no idea where I need to do work on project A or work for project B.2
-
What should you do if the project manager is not assigning you any new work after the backlog already has been cleaned up?
I currently work as a junior front-end dev. For the past few weeks, the 2 juniors (incl. me) are lacking tickets. For example, I got 2.5 days of work assigned during our 3-week sprint. We already followed some courses, read some books & created some designs for upcoming features (that have no "functional specifications" written down).3 -
Give me a full 1-2 weeks of work for the project and then i relate it to how big the project seems in comparison to previous projects 😄
-
Back from a 2 week holiday, inbox says 100+ messages
What is your back 2 work routine to get the current project status?1 -
The worst project i work on is my actual project, this is not a dev project but a "Run the Bank" project !
check 3 times a day that servers are okay, logs are okay, unduserssolvedunderstand and give the "how to fix" to the dev team #pan1 -
4 Step Plan:
1: Have a new idea
2: Work on it
3: Forget about it a week later
4: Pause project till forever! -
What is a good python project to work on to showcase my skills to employers that work with big data and AI.6
-
Ok so a company from a neighboring country contacted me for a remote job opportunity... the offer was quite good
Now I'm working more on his project even at work than my work project -
My work just hired a project manager intern. With no one to work under. To be an actual project manager.
-
Question: for my personal project I am looking into android aso (app store optimisation). Any of you has any good recommendations? Things that really work?
-
Office Politics
I suppose I become a victim of office politics. I was working on new project and one more new project having e-commerce aspects was in queue. But my ex-manager went to the boss and asked him to assign me to her :( No more chance to work on e-commerce :( again have to work some geo-location services. Feel like fu*ked up ..2 -
Does anyone have an OS project I can collaborate for this hacktoberfest?
Does any open source project work or there are some specific?2 -
idk why but personal project code gives me more OCD triggers than work project code.
Can't code for myself anymore. My OCD kicks in and makes me wanna throw up when I look at the shit I coded last week for my pet project.3
