FUCK HIM! FUCK HIM!
JUST CAME TO REALISE THAT AN OLD CLASSMATE DURING UNIVERSITY STOLE 2 OF MY PROJECTS AND PUBLISHED 2 PAPERS UNDER HIS NAME.
HE EVEN ADDED THEM IN HIS CV.
SUCH PEOPLE SHOULD DIE.
Recently, at 2am, he even called me and asked for some doubts on other topic, I helped him too. Turns out such he was such a cheap person.
Let him call me next time...27 -

FINALLY, RESIGNED! Am leaving such a fucked UP "big" corporate company and starting my own business! Wish me luck!😔😔27

I hate Munich. Instead of using Windows, the city administration had built their own Linux distro called LiMux for all of the ~30000 city's computers. They invested years into developing it, because, hey, it's open source! Now they used it for four years, and just as Microsoft opens an office in town, they throw it all overboard and go back to Windows. Why? Because, umm, they can't even use MS Word, what all the others use and such.
This is such a bullshit. You had a good thing going here, in times of NSA surveillance and monopolies. Munich is such a capitalistic town. I'm happy to have moved out of it for good.13 -
Security decided to update our PCs with endpoint protection. It's blocking all connections to and from localhost.
It's been a productive day.
Such enterprise. Much security.3 -
Am I the only one who doesn't like putting things—such as stickers—on my laptop?
I like the clean and clear look of my lenovo thinkpad without cluttering it with stickers.23 -

Once, at college I asked my computer science teacher that why don't you use Linux 🐧?.
And guess what he said his reply was "I don't use pirated softwares so I'm saving money to buy Linux OS " and after listening this I was really about to die of laughing 😂😂.
Like literally how can someone be such a dumb and especially a computer science teacher.
After this he asked me to get out of the class and I thanked God as it's better to stay out of such a class with such a dumb teacher. 😂😂12 -
Dear Author, burn in hell for printing a great book with such bad indentation. It triggers my developer OCD every time and i can not stop reading ...6

DevRant is such a small world. I posted a story about someone I know in real life and she posted a rant about me too.
And it's good to be back here.8 -
An amazing recruiter found me on LinkedIn. According to her cv she has incredible skills such as “Internet Browsers“ and “Google Calender“. Maybe I should give her a call?3

Everytime I look at an open source project code, I realize how bad I am and that I must work harder in order to take part in such amazing projects.2

You are cool guys :)8 -
Why would you submit a pull request with the addition of such a comment and expect me to approve? What the hell is wrong with you?

So I've setup Manjaro and I freakin love it. It looks great, it feels great and Octopi is such a huge help. So hyped to... let it rot on my Laptop as I dont really use it much.15

Blender. The answer to that question is always Blender. Such amazing, huge thing.
And right after that, git, of course.
After that, probably Linux.3 -

When I stumbled upon this app in the Play Store last week, I was not expecting such a good heartwarming community of intelligent individuals. I have a great time here. Thank you @dfox and @trogus for making such an awesome platform!

That time when you check devRant in your sleep and have a dream that a rant has over 300 ++'s. Waking up was such a disappointment.2

Thanks so much for the clarification Pikepass....such a big help. Now I know exactly what format my account number should look like and where to find it!

Fuuuuuuuuuuccccccckk this new dev hired is such a dick he keeps on not testing his own code for simple things and expects everyone else to test it on local and tell him his bugs.6 -

"Potimized imports and remopved temp code"
Can't help but wonder what's the code quality like from an author of such a carefully written commit message 🤔4 -
ChatGPT and similar thing. Sooner or later people will get enough of the novelty and such systems will remain only as some niche tools, unless something extraordinary happens.12

Do you all get the mood when you don't wish to code anything because you like to Google new technologies and platforms all day?
I'm having such a mood today.2 -
As someone who works in AI and actually bothers with cognitive models, general intelligence, theory of mind and such shit, I find the current state of the field laughable. I don't get why people panic about AI. Like, yeah it's gonna take us a while to adopt and regulate, but... it's just not there, and nowhere even near there, yet.
... Unless we're comparing AI to moronic idiotic mofos such as my neighbors. But let's not do... that. 😒 Let's just not.12 -
Yei, I've bought a domain like "mysurname.me" and setup a new email at ProtonMail like "name@surname.me".

Hey DevRant Fam! Hope everyone is doing very well! Just would like to ask, for awhile now i have been focusing on languages such as c++, C#, Java, and little bit of python the others I mentioned before were mainly from Uni, but I’d like to step out of my comfort zone a little, I’m interested in learning things such as “NodeJS”.
I actually haven’t laid much of a finger on JS so i do not know much, and i also see things such as Nodejs, react are very popular and would like to step my foot in the door, what would you guys suggest and or recommend :-) I’m open to listen to you guys and learn more!.
Hope everyone is doing well wherever you may be!
Thank you 😊

Why is LinkedIn such a shitty asshat cringe piece of shit stewed with fakeness and boiled with preposterous dramatic assholes trying to be cool and professional but in real life are fucktards.8

The best part of being dev is the community, its also the most unique one IMHO. I mean what other profession in the Whole Wide World has such great and ingrained culture of helping eachother and sharing knowledge ?1

Git is distributed. What's on gitlab it's also on my 3 different machines. So I have 3 backups for the code. Not such a big deal except issues and PRs.6

Im 29... and I realize all the bosses I had never had my future in my best consideration.
Is there such a company that bets on the well being and the stability of their employees?12 -
Why !?! Why would you design your web page in such a way that as images load, I have to play a scrolling game to try and read the shit !?!11
-
Why is Teams such a pile of shit? Slows my machine to a crawl and makes my fan go nuts whenever I'm on a call, has never heard of UX when it comes to chats and channels, and for some unknown fucking reason uses entirely different device config for livestreams.
Fuck you Microsoft. Only you could develop such a bloated, ugly abomination.4 -
Kinda curious if there are any devs who don't use a monospace font when coding and what drove you to do such a horrible inhumane thing?7

Passive aggressive commit notes should be mandatory, such a good stress reliever and conversation starter.4

Oh my! This guy is such a dickhead! We have a release tomorrow and he just changed everything a coworker did in the past few weeks because it had some errors and looked not polished enough.
Now it looks quite nice.

Using JavaScript... (we combine JS and c++ and I love c++ ... definitely not JS)

Spring Frameworks and the projects surrounding it such as Spring Boot, Thymeleaf, and recently lombok. Without these API's and frameworks I wouldn't be using Java half as competently as I am.
Development is moving further and further towards containerization and it's a massive time saver. -
They call Python, C, Java, Ruby, and stuff like that programming 'LANGUAGES' for a reason. I just wrote a Python dictionary literal in my C# code and was clueless as to why it was failing to compile for five minutes straight. Maybe that was because I was working with Python like 30 minutes ago.
It's like I have to have one 'brain' per one language and need to switch between such 'brains' to write code in another language. And such switches take time.5 -
When your customer calls you out and asks why "such and such" data wasn't copied over to the other two instances.

Definitely Git, Node, Composer and PHP at the moment.
It's fucking incredible how you have such tools for free.
The younger generations have it much easier to get into programming.3 -
Google OAuth docs is such a pain to read... I have implemented OAuth multiple times and understand the flow. Its never been a problem, but man, their docs is such a pain to read.
Their Java client library is also painful. Its needlessly complex that I just ended up implement good old HTTP rest to handle it.5 -

Here's my idea. In light of all the efforts to teach kids how to do programming, why not start with an introduction to discrete mathematics instead? From a lot of the programs I've seen, the kids are taught different structures such as if else, while, and for loops, but they don't attempt to start teaching them about recursive methods or even other structures such as linked lists, queues, dequeues, binary trees, heaps, different sorts, and other things. Am I just not looking deep enough into those programs? Or are the creators of these programs not wishing to cover those things because they feel like children wouldn't be able to comprehend such things?4

Just downloading the CM Source code right now. I'm really excited and nervous because I never tackled such a big project on my own.
Wish me Luck guys! :)1 -
I think the fact that even Apple can't unlock your phone if you forget your passcode proves that they use very naive encryption method.
Suppose my data is "Hey This is Some Data" and Passcode is 1234, I could just Jumble this data using that passcode and It will be difficult to decrypt without Passcode. And If data is huge, it will be fairly impossible to do so. But that doesn't make it a good encryption method.
Such encryption, though safe is not practical, Imagine if there was no "Forget Password" Option on any account, I usually forgot my password very often when I was a child.
Apple has been doing such things for years, Using Bad things as a selling point. Apple users are dumb anyways because they don't want to control their phone.
Reset Password is a weak point which might be exploited but in such cases, usability is more important than security. Any service which doesn't allow resetting Password is a shitty service and I would never use such a service, They are too naive.696 -

In the 21st Century the problem is not to allow the use of Chemical & Biological Weapons & 'maybe' just 'maybe' achieve total nuclear disarmament (not in the next 120 years) It's not just the responsibility of the UK, USA, & France but that of every country that's a signatory of the conventions that banned the use of such weapons to intercept and retaliate against members that use such kind of weapons. From Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, China, India , Afghanistan, Butan, Taiwan, Iceland should use heavy force to stop the use of such weapons.1

Wow, i've been gone a while, huh?

Not sure if other programming languages class a Boolean as an integer value buuuuuuut...
The amount of times I've seen people do code such as...
if(value == true) {
variable = "blah blah";
} else if(value == false) {
variable = "blah";
}
Instead of doing a simple 1D array and going...
variable = strings[value];
It drives me crazy, such a small thing that has no real benefit but... Ugh... Whyyyyyyy3 -

Why are developers so excited about coding assistants if they still make so many wrong and annoying suggestions? Why would anyone even pay for such a service?8

What are the odds that Java and Javascript are released within months of each other with such similar names? I think James Gosling and Brendan Eich were just messing with everyone secretly.3

Jesus Christ, Minecraft source code (with forge in this case) is such a clusterfuck of spaghetti logic. It's especially fun when it uses a lot of reflection and dynamic class lookups...3

Some freelancers give a bad reputation to the community. There are genuine amazing developers but clients source to companies instead because of their bad experiences.
Things such as reviews and such don't mater much anymore.2 -
This place would be so much better and original if all 'joke/meme' tagged posts or posts that should be tagged as such for the 'meme' part were deleted.7

Wow, I'm such impressed by the power of Visual Studio with Team Collaboration, DB Management and this impressive packet manager... But it's like "don't try to understand, just code"

I was just wondering what languages are most apt for building a group of web applications that will manage huge amounts of data, represent them in graphical form, and through repetetive learning, state trends or detect negative trends and suggest measures against such negative trends?
In simple words, where should I start in the development of an environment where data can merge with machine learning and website's with an aesthetic interface? How many people will such a project require and in what areas will these people have to specialize in?1 -
As mentioned in one of my comments earlier, I am learning web development. And as such would like a web hosting service that is affordable and has instant customer support.
Suggestions ?10 -
When you are a we developer since 3 years and you get such marks in Web Development course just cause you asked a question that the faculty didn't know. Duh!😞1

CamanJS is a nice library and such but why does it's vignette function take a String as it's parameter for percentage!? It parses it by removing the '%' character and doing a parseInt()!2

When I'm trying to sleep, I get such a surge of motivation that makes think I'm such an amazing programmer and that I can build anything. When I wake up and try to get shit done, I make 476 errors in a simple "Hello world" program. 😑

So, finally decided to write my first rant.
I finished today a function that takes the generated week calendar of a WordPress plugin and gives the user a nice print layout.
Problem: The plugin doesn't use the database for it's calendar, only for the events in the calendar. I had to write really unefficent code in jQuery(ajax) and PHP and additionally create a new table. Finally completed the code for printing out a selected day, the current week and a timespan that can be defined, every exception and input is now handled correctly .
Such a great feeling to be finally done with this 4000 rows code.
I hope that I will never again have to create a workaround for such a not-developer-friendly plugin.
Why do clients always want to use such plugins?!5 -

If I worked for teh teslah, I'd give them cars special easter eggs where they rollup to self driving car meetups, hussle drugs and such, and then creep back to their owners houses without them even noticing.

The higher one is, the less in touch one seems to be and tend to be more preachy and such.
Had an "architect" ask me what is that "tail" command I did when I showed him application logs. -
Not using front-end caching and etags because holy ncs database calculates global etags. A senior engineer fixed it but management told him not to spend time on such a problem.

Devs act like princesses more and more, since there is such a shortage of developers. So many of them are never satisfied and always want more and more. Is this a problem only in the Netherlands, or also in other countries?9

I kinda hate Europe for having such strict laws about everything regarding the web. I feel like it only stops progress and benefits corporations.

Anyone from Sweden? I found an engineer position I want to apply for, but was curious about things like quality of life and such.12 -
I’m annoyed that a lot of people don’t understand that code is art, and don’t value it as such. While many programmers do dabble in more traditional art forms, they don’t see program as *an art form*. Programmers need to actually see this. Stop devaluing programming by using LLMs and the such.

PHP is so insecure and vulnerable that it makes me feel unsafe. It has so many features and settings that can lead to security risks, such as register_globals, magic_quotes, and allow_url_fopen. It also has so many functions that can execute arbitrary code or commands, such as eval, exec, and system.
It is like PHP was designed by a bunch of hackers who wanted to exploit every possible loophole.11 -
All banks in India continue to fail to handle such huge rush of customers.
They should have had a better load balancer, and some ddos protection. -
Git was designed to be used in a decentralized fashion, and as such has a lot of additional logic steps to deal with this.
The way people use git today only with centralized storage such as github makes it a inferior solution compared to SVN6 -
When someone else breaks the development build, and when I ask what happened, it's suggested that *I* should fix it, by "just" doing such-and-such.
Why me? I'm not the one who broke the fuckin thing. Can ppl take responsibility for their own actions please?1 -
Working on weekend, shitty internet and trying to find some method like .getCurrentProductQty(), only to find out that there is no such method, fuck me, fucking useless api3

I have a technical job interview via phone call later today and would like some advice on what to prepare for.
The role is Junior Web Developer and here is what's expected of me:
- Good knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Some knowledge of Javascript
- Some experience with a PHP framework such as Laravel
- Some experience developing themes for content management systems such as WordPress
- Basic familiarity with Git or other VCS
Those are fairly low requirements and I meet or exceed them individually but just want to ensure I prepare properly.
What can I expect?3 -

Why Redmine has a such bad and convoluted UX? I don't care about its look which comes straight out of the 90s but it shouldn't be made in such a way which each thing you do requires 1000 clicks.4

Commons sense/ best practice:
Is It ok ti initialize (angular) variabile as {id:" ", name:" ", ..} to avoid errors in the browser console such as "can't get ID of undefined"?
My concern is code readability and debugging, is not ok for the ones looking at the browser console to have such useless errors, on the other side you have to initialize some variables with object that have a lot of keys(id name ecc...) Whith empty fields...useless.
The apps work both cases, whit or whitouth initialization.
By the way we are getting such data by api calls later on.3 -

My team is currently using a confluent cloud kafka architecture via protobuf and wordpress as website.

problem is we are all java backend developers with minor php knowledge, and php doesnt work well with protobuf or kafka.
how would you get such a website started. what language and frameworks are easy to get going? -
