My last night:
- Had nothing much to work on.
- Opened a porn site to spend sometime.
- Clicked on some really good video.
- Realized full screen isn't working on the page.
- Fired up JS console, spent the next 30 minutes trying to get the video part full screen. Failed!
- Opened up Google & navigated through stackoverflow looking for the fix. Still couldn't do it.
- Cursed the website for having a bad design.
- Left the site.
Bad UI = No Fuck.23 -

First date tip: Don't tell her that you prefer back-end over front-end. Programming is apparently "the most perverted thing in the world"...9

I found this while I was lazily internetting and my first thought was 'okay, that's most definitely a hack!'.
Someone has actually built a hack for all the world to see!19 -
Hello world, this is my first rant :)
Today at work, this was on the whiteboard.
Little "war" between the iOS pole and the PHP pole :D (Obviously PHP is better)19 -

Deployed my first website to production yesterday and the world isn't burning, the error logs have been empty and my (non-tech) colleagues think it is amazing.
I'm somewhat proud of myself.8 -
trying to teach my little sister(13) her first programming language. decided to go the microsoft way and start with C#.
the moment she finished her first

So this morning my girlfriend just woke up and pressed the hue "lights off" button over and over again and yelled: "The fuckin light switch does not work". Then she realized, that the light comes from the sun.1

Last night my girlfriend was extremely happy to make her first Android hello world application.4 -
The most emotional moment was after seeing that "Hello, world!" printed out on the screen for the first time. That was the point where I felt like "yup, this is gonna be my life from now on"
-
I wanted to print the second and third page of some document, so in the relevant field of the printer dialog I enter "1, 2" and I walk off to the printer.
My first thought when I saw the printer had printed the wrong pages was
"F*ing buggy software"
Second thought:
"Oh... right"
Third thought:
"Right, in the real world, one-based indices are the rule rather than the exception. "
Fourth thought:
"Dumb real world"3 -
That first world problems moment when your desk can hardly handle handle the load of your monitor arm after you've put up a new monitor and you realize that three more monitors will be mounted soon.

devRant is the first time I see so many people announcing to the world how much they like the app. Imagine someone be like "I LOVE Facebook! <3"
Btw, I LOVE devRant! <33 -
The pain in a dev's heart when a long queue keeps growing at the supermarket and they don't open another checkout3

#!/bin/bash
echo Hello World!
This is my first time here at devRant and I have to say that it's amazing!
Just something to fill this a little more:
Linux enthusiast since 2011.
I'm your stereotypical v̶e̶g̶a̶n̶ Arch user (btw, I use Arch).
Right now I'm learning C and C++(using the QT framework).
Let's the Rant games begin!10 -
Friend: I can't download songs and videos in youtube
Me: You need to buy Youtube Red subscription to do in the official youtube app, but you can always use 3rd party services.
Friend: When I press the download button, the music isn't being downloaded, instead the numbers next to it gets incremented by 1
Me: WTF? What is that?
Friend: (shows the action to me)
Me: FML, (faints)
He pressed the dislike button because it looked like the download button and when he pressed the button, the number got incremented.8 -

WTH?! I just installed Windows on a high end laptop and fiber connection in under 20 minutes.

Had a MacBook try to commit suicide sometime this weekend... just glad it didn't explode in the office ...
The battery swole large enough to push the trackpad out of the frame about a centimeter cracking it in half.
Took the battery out. Still works fine even with a cracked trackpad.7 -
The obvious one:

First they acted all evil, and then they wanted to control the world.
A brilliant business model tbh., but not very humanistic one.2 -
In accordance with the ancient traditions of our people, we must first build an app that does nothing except say "Hello world". - react native docs1

Changing default branch name from "master" to "main" is just one more entry in the already very long list of "things sane people must do because some retarded american woke up one day and decided to be offended".
I am so fucking tired of the entire world having to accommodate to the first-world-problems of some spoiled brat just because they happen to be american.38 -
Worst: I lost development contract - probably due to covid - after 4 years of work. I got email when I was at bank seconds before signing mortgage for my first apartment.
I signed it anyways as a technically unemployed person without income looking at the world collapsing.
Best: I gained new contract with 40% money raise. Fuck yeah ! -
Hello World!
Migrating to my first Thinkpad (E585), something that I've wanted to do for a long time. I've heard a lot of great things and I wanted that sweeeet performance boost over my budget craptop (partially pictured).

> RX Vega 8 integrated
> 8GB DDR4

HI there
First post always feels like the first lines of code or first commit ever ! It's exciting yeah ?
Like Hello World app
Wish me luck6 -
Used hashmap instead of arraylist for 13000+ entries and fetched it from hashmap. Earlier used to take 1500ms to execute and now only 500ms.. First time, optimization of code for which i can see the difference in real world.. Its a good feeling.

Am I the only one who's slightly annoyed that the first lesson in the Swift Playground app is not a "Hello World" program?4

Hell World
So to followup with the enterprise grade goodness, I made a little prototype~
https://github.com/EnterpriseSoftwa...
Not very enterprise like yet, but a fun first 'extension' to writing a proper hello world program.
Ideas
--------
*Things that might make it more business like*
- Lots and lots of abstraction
- Tests ( not very business like but more stuff = better )
- FFI | Shared library, because why not
- Threading / workers
Hardcore:
Design a dedicated language for writing hello world programs that is compiled / interpreted on a simulated custom hello-world-cpu and displays it's content on a simulated screen.
Note
--------
I want to keep the documentation & code normal / actually helpful as a contrast to the concept itself and of course to keep my sanity.24 -
Hello world!
I wrote my first own contribution, pushed, made a pull request and merged to master today all by myself at my trainee job!
Success!1 -
I like dark themes but I really don't like it when the black of the desktop theme is clashing with a different shade of black in the program2

Hello World!

Anyone else really struggle with motivation?
Time was back when I was a fresh dev that I couldn’t stop coding, it’s all I ever wanted to do.
I think doing it for a job has sucked the fun out of it, and unless I’m getting paid (and even then), I find actually getting down to it is really difficult.
I’ll start looking into making something, perhaps get as far as opening the IDE and then just nope’ing and bingeing YouTube / gaming / Netflix instead.6 -
Just noticed:
In every programming language, your first goal usually is to write "Hello World".
Except for php. There "phpinfo();" is the equivalent of that.2 -

Is this a devrant equivalent to first world problems?1 -
At work we have a....err....pool of usefulness awareness situation.
You see. The school does not know all that me and the lead developer does. Our head of department does. Our manager used to do(fore she left) but as far as the rest of the 2 fucking campuses are concerned, all of our shit works through magical dwarves that live inside the servers in our server rooms.
Normally, we are fine with this. But whenever one of us misses, or decides to take the day off and some shit hits the fan...THEN and only then do our users know what we do.
So we have a "pool" of items that seem to be picked every time one of us is not there. The more it gets picked, the more people are aware of us, the more they figure out what we do...the more they start to ask for customization and shit like that.
Such a funny situation. Wonder if this will get in the way of friday morning coffee and magic the Gathering at the office.
Or me and the cms admin playing videogames together.
Oh well -
Hey all!
I've been browsing devRant for a couple months now and finally joined!
I'm a CS student from Germany, most interested in AI and Infosec, and member of a CTF team.15 -
Today I had my first :
root@DEC:~# echo "hello World"
in my linux terminal ! :)
Just knew some commands but finally wanna master that !16 -
One day i type hello world program.
And i was amazed that for the first time someone (something) is doing what i tell it to do.
And that's how i got interest in programming.2 -
Well is a long story, but to make it short, a friend started to teach me HTML after that at school they taught me c++, and after my first "Hello World" I was hooked, since then I became an addict to programming and now to devrant4
-
Don't start with Java but something simple like Python or Ruby or anything that doesn't need that much blob too run a Hello World! program. That was what confused me the most. And by 'start' I mean like the first few lessons, just to get started.14
-
I haven't opened my laptop all day for the first time in 2.5 months. Feels damn good. Got some good laughs today out of devrant; thanks everyone.

When your total cost of the item you bought on Black Friday is cheaper than shipping.... (cries in the corner)1

In 2010, it was my first client project. Our architect was not from iOS background, we had editable pdfs in our app. Those were pretty rich pdfs with inline HD images. iPads that time were not too fast and couldn't handle big gb pdf loaded into memory. App would crash randomly running out of memory. We fixed it by paginating pdf, it wasn't out of the world but considering it was my first mobile project and no one to guide, I thought it was pretty cool what we did there

Have anyone felt this before?
You Google loads of different tutorial on something, find one most recent tutorial... Do it and when compile, a lot of error pops out. Go to the github code page and realise the author did not include the line that was required to run smoothly in the tutorial page/video?13 -
My best dev-memories of 2016??
First in february I won a competition (Jugend - Forscht) in which i had programmed an interpreter. And then, the first time my selfmade compiler actually printed hello world... -
How about you started off with programming?
I'll start with a veery old picture of my first Java-Code I've written (if you can call it eben that). At that time I tried to code using a JS-Designer. Just hilarious. 😂😂😂9 -

Are any of you guys sentimental about your early programming efforts? I still have my first few simple Python programs on my computer, from years ago!
print("hello world")8 -
I just noticed I didn't say "Hello world!" when I first got on devRant... so...
MessageBox.Show("Hello world! 💙");4 -
Hello world in different languages. Everyone can add a suggestion :) . No google translate!!! I give the first ones :)

First I helped her with coding the Newton-Raphson method in Python (she has background in Mechanical Engineering).
Later I introduced her to the Linux world and she was amazed with the system responsiveness.
Now I am helping her with learning C (she is programming to Arduino but some concepts are hard for her because Python was her first language).
We are together for 4 years and going on.1 -

Just published the first part of my dream project on GitHub. Woohoo!
Genie wish #0 is that the world would find a use for this project, although I know that it's my job to use it to make great things so people see how it can be used.9 -
What was your first real program or website or app developed by you?
(PLEASE DON'T SAY HELLO WORLD)33 -
I seriously hate it when people expect me to know every. Single. Thing. About their computer just because I know how to format a usb... Honestly I think the lack of formal computer education in schools (at least in America) is gonna screw us over in the long run...🤔1

I am unable to create my avatar.
So now I have to rant about this ranting place. Come on!!
I am already fed up dude. Ufff.15 -
Doesn't matter if you know a lot of programming languages. There is no greater satisfaction than when you write your first "hello world" in a new language.6

Why do non developers always think we devs don't have a life outside of work?
We have a life people. We do other things as well3 -

Second day of holiday - received a message that everything is going wrong. Apparently I can't take any holidays as the world will burn in the meantime...3 -

Stop whining about slow IDEs. If the IDE is running slow its because your shitbox computer is pissing it's pants. Get rich and buy decent hardware or use notepad and imagine the syntax highlight you cheap hook-nosed fuck. Fucking degenerate.8

Whenever I want to type the shrug emoji, I copy it from a Google note ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I can type emojis just fine, enjoy a 🍓, yet there is a clear lack of accessibility for ASCII-emojis input on any device.
How is this fair!?
PS: I do know that this shrug is actually utf8 and not ascii. But that's beside the point. Also try saying “utf8 emoji” three time in a row.8 -
There's something special about writing your first "Hello world!" in a new language, no matter how long you've been programming :)
So hello rust, let's see what the fuzz is all about...4 -
MOTHERF*CKING HELLO WORLD Tuts.
What is it with people that after what 20 years (?) still every programming language tutorial starts with a "Hello World" program?
Programmers are usually such creative people, so why does everybody who writes a tutorial start with "Hello world"?
You learn nothing by such an example, it is boring as hell already the second time (first time is funny though).
And especially: If you write a tutorial with the prerequisite that people reading it should already know another language, WHY THE HELL START OUT LIKE THAT?
Okay, now back to learning Scala 😊9 -

Google wanted to be politically correct and gave faces different colors. But apparently using "black" or "asian" is a shame too so all of these emojies have same name.
This decision was very poor as it's hard to implement this duplicity in frontend so as always Devs choose easiest choice - just use the first one. And first one is always yellow...
Congrats on making whole lazy Dev world using your "correct" emojies enforcing only one face style.3 -
Going to start my first internship tomorrow. My first exposure to real tech world. Hope everything goes well. Wish me luck! 🙏4

AndroidOS.
Why: well it's built on Linux kernel so first good thing.
Due to open source everyone can get cheap (under $50) smartphones running on Android with millions of app to access. We can create custom ROMs.

I opened devrant with this rant in mind and the first thing i saw is a post about someones boss getting killed...
Fucking hell does someone have good news?
Everywhere i look is pain. Why is this world so cruel!?!?!
Why is there war Why did so many people get killed Why Why Why

I use to work with a lot of people from all around the world, so i can say from the very first meeting if you are a good dev or not, and darn ! i hate the self confident devs who think they are the best, especially when they are junior !

So, I need to search for a new job again. The thing killed my project.
15 years of Java experience in my resume, I look a like a sterotypical 35 years old programmer, I’m applying for expert roles. But every remote technical interview starts with:
- what is the difference between ArrayList and LinkedList?
- what is a hash map?
The hardest part is to keep smiling to the camera, pretending I don’t have the answer memorized by repeating it for the last 15 years of interviewing, and not rolling my eyes.
And before you ask, I do know what garbage collector is.5 -
As some of you may have read, I'm working on an terminal based passwords manager, written in Go and i just published its first usable version.

Past two years when I was in 7th grade, my computer teacher taught us the first programming language ie Python. At first, I just copied the syntax in my copy, and in the evening, I searched for it on YT
This introduced me to a new world of programming and I started learning it further3 -
in my first days of codeblocks, I pressed the 'run' button insted of 'BUILD and run' ....I always got a hello world.

When there is a blizzard and all local buisnesses shutdown, kids are stuck at home, and the doors to the office are locked but the CEO sends out an email reminding all software developers to remotely work from home as long as they still have power and everyone else gets paid time off due to the weather.1

-
Is it just me or is the first question of the gcse computer science exam the hardest question in the world?7
-
I have a question of morality .. we are devs so it may start becoming more important then ever..
If to save the world... Would you do something that would first effect millions or 10 of millions of lives negatively, possibly quite seriously so, as in death or starvation etc
Similar to the do you pull the switch and kill one man or do you let the train kill 5 but on a world scale I suppose.14 -
Well this explains why I'm a programmer...
First off, what do you love doing? Secondly, what are you good at? Thirdly, what does the world need? Lastly, what can you be paid for? Think of your answers as a Venn diagram; you’ll find your ikigai where all four circles overlap.1 -
2016, First World country, the best cabled internet connection that you can get in my town is still a dial-up. 4/5 years ago that was still the only option.3

Not the best workspace picture in the world but it's my first working space that I rent with some collegemates inside a shopping center with 10 floors in Iran. The only thing that annoys me is the fact that I have to get premission for almost anything from security...

The most difficult esoteric programming language is not Brainfuck. It is Malbolge:
"It took two years for the first Malbolge program to appear. The author himself has never written a Malbolge program. The first program ["Hello World"] was not written by a human being; it was generated by a beam search algorithm (...)"
So basically it took a brutforce try-and-error approach to write "Hello World". Absolutely crazy! Imagine malware written like that 🤖5 -
the only thing that lets me go on is trying to squeeze some form of even minor happiness out of each day because comfort surely isn't present right now
I'm living in the first world sliding into the third world.10 -
It is absolutely surreal on my first foray into the corporate world after contracting, to have to have some one that is not you do hardware fixes on your machine.2
-
Accepting a 3 year old scratched and beaten PowerBook as my "new" dev machine. Especially when my personal, 4 year old one is as powerful but with double the disk space (SSD) and RAM... Then of course the new guys just joining actually do get new out of the box devices just as we're accepting that it's just not how the company works... I guess that's the bane of doing dev in a company that does resourcing as it's main focus thereby never understanding what's needed by us developers and why it is, or rather should be, different from the rest of the company.2
-
half of these YC companies don't even show up on the first page of google when you search them by name...
my company & all my products do, with a _very_ basic set of meta tags and a few blog posts 🤷♂️
it's officially a 🤡's world, and we're just living it in5 -

I think I'm hooked. This stuff is really cool, kind of opens a whole new world for you ☺️6 -
I just realized I didn't make my first post a hello world post and I just threw away a bunch of potential upvotes. Hopefully it's not too late. Hello world!1

Until now, I've never contributed anything to an open source project (or even created my own). My GitHub Profile is completely empty. I don't know why, maybe I'm just to "scared" of bad feedback.
But I really want to change that. Any good advice on how to do so? What were your first steps in this world?4 -
Family wasn't very supportive of my first choice (Film Directing) and since I live in Latin America and both of my parents come from very poor families, they pushed me to engineering in order to make money and live a better life than they did.
Even though it was not my initial call and they were not very supportive of my first choice, once I started CS they gave me everything I needed to keep on studying.
Overall, I think that for a lot of coders out here from third world countries, we can agree that engineering was not our first call, but it's mostly a way to get out of poverty and into a field that gives you advantages over others.
Shout out third world country ranters!3 -
Imagine a "development" environment with no vcs, no APIs, no general hierarchy for db admin or software development, no test environment. Well this was my first job.
Quite literally a dumpster fire.
I know I'm not a world class developer but I still think this was beyond unacceptable for a software startup.2 -
I posted a few weeks ago about how I started my own mobile app development business. Today, I released its first app. It's a turn by turn navigation app for amusement parks, right now it's only featuring Walt Disney World. If you have an Android the app is called AmuseGO. I'm waiting for apple to approve it.2

Boss complains this morning about having to go to a Cubs game, and even calls it a "First world problem." (outing with management and client).
We're super behind on a lot of things, most of us are busy coding, and he sends us a photo from the game to our Slack channel.2 -
"hey, can you help me doing this on the phone?"
"hey, do you know what,'s wrong with my computer "
And so on...
I am no tech support.
First world problems, I know 😑 -
I am scared :< every day our boss comes in and blames someone that he did some shit.... He Never came to me... maybe he think I'm not working... Should do some issues too or I get fired :O3

I think I may need a second graphics card. Not because of the performance but because I want to use more than 4 displays...
Damn first world problems!6 -
!First rant
Started learning C programming through CS50 course.
Hello world?nope.too scared to write the program because everytime I write it, something or the other happens and I stop learning C5 -
Hello world (my first "rant"). What do you think about laptop stickers? My Macbook is still clean after three years. Now thinking about filling it up. Why, why not?7

First day after my vacation. I started with a good old hello world programm. Boss totally understand me 😁

So I got my first rails jobs today!! After learning ruby for a little more than a year on my own I spent the entire summer slaving away helping my Sr dev friend gaining really awesome really world experience and great practices. Now I'm officially a software developer in title haha so excited!1 -
Update on job hunting in the first world:
1- Tens of rejections
2- Had one HR interview last week, seemed to have went well and claimed to check with techlead for a technical interview so fingers crossed
3-interview tomorrow with another company
Also January weather sux balls1 -
So first reflex in looking what Electron development looks like was making a Hello world app. So it just makes a window saying "Hello world".
Then I proceed to editing the menu, and the quit option is "Goodbye world"... and I realized, or at least I thought... this is a bit... grim?1 -
The ability to vertically align in css correctly. On my first try.
That would save me a world of headaches... 😒5 -
I was today years old when I created my first node.js Hello World app. I managed to add some basic routing with express.js, managed to read a mysql table and some JSON. I'm starting to 'get' the node.js environment. Shows you're never too old to learn something new.3

First-world problem: my blueberries are rotten! I rescued enough for my daily portion of quark, and threw the rest out. WHY CAN'T THE SUPERMARKETS HAVE BLUEBERRIES THAT DON'T ROT IN LESS THAN A WEEK?9

Silver spooned europeans get to spend new year's eve partying and getting drunk not having to worry about a damn thing since their government has got them covered with the first of January being a public holiday.
No currency devaluation, no slave labour, no care in the world.

I wish devrant allowed me to press the left and right arrow keys on keyboard to cycle through my notifications rather than having to click the bell then click the next one
Since I keep disappearing I come back to 50-60+ notifs every time and I actually like reading through them, it's just so time consuming
probably already a way I just don't know about it yet lol3 -
I found out why my local server kept going offline.
Due to living constraints, it has to be connected to the network via wifi. The cable connecting the wifi card to the computer appears not to work when bent in a specific direction...
Why can't cables that come with things be of good quality?2 -
Every body has that moment when they code their first ever project and feel like flying on top of the world..
just remembering that moment when i had done my first ever app and i was like wooow i made this work.
so sharing my first ever project

i would love to see all the others had done as their first project feel free to post your's one2 -
What a consultant's gotta do for his timesheet when homeworking:
1. Fill in Excel, send to self by mail (corporate bitlocker protected PC on proxy that doesnt allow local printer connections)
2. Go upstairs to secondary Windows PC (no Excel on main Linux laptop) and open mail
3. Send to printer, wait 10 minutes (old printer needs to 'warm up')
4. Sign timesheet and go back upstairs
5. Scan signed version, send mail to self.
6. Open personal mail on corporate laptop, send to manager. (can't send directly from personal mail)
7. Wait to get back signed timesheet from manager
8. Finally, send to own admin dept.
2 story points completed, time for a break.1 -

I know the world doesn't owe me anything but why is it so fucking hard to get a job in this industry?? Unless you have a few years experience in a job behind you. Well if I can't get a fucking coding job in the first place how the fuck am I supposed to get work experience. The world is deluded fucked up place. Rant over!8

Hey y’all. I’ve worked with a couple startups and live in a third world country. Recently I received an offer from a Fortune 500 company to relocate to a first world country. A couple of buddies and old workmates who know about this are discouraging me to take the offer with claims that there isn’t much to learn or gain in those companies, but there hasn’t been much learning or career growth gained from the local scene. My question is if anyone has any insight kindly advice me on what the right move is. Because I feel I’m gonna go for the offer.5
-
It is quite a hard pick either generally coding with friends for fun or getting my first ever program done completely by myself (and I don't mean Hello world but rather my first small 'project') . But I'd probably go with my first ever program. Even though retrospectively the code is let's say not that great, it was still an awesome learning experience to actually create sth working out of code

They should have made a song "but first let me take a backup", instead of selfie. This would have made the world a better place and a better life for many people like me :(

Dahh. I wish 10 gig nics were standard, or at least way more common.
Being stuck with gigabit is a tad ridiculous in this day and age, it's maxed out by the average speed of a damn spinning disk.5 -
Taught my wife the first lesson in real world programming:
She had to do some python homework and it was already late night. Task was to apply several filters to a csv. So we did the good ol' STRG+C.

Artificial Intelligence vs Internet of Things vs Blockchain

Macbook pro is - at least where I live - considered expensive. Some of my friends have cheaper cars. I really hesitate to buy even a 2015 version, as thats the one I want. Im thinking about buying a used one ffs.
Now yesterday im chatting with this girl, exchanging nudes and so, when on one of her pictures I saw the apple logo, a macbook, I bet its an air, no its a pro, god damnit. So I asked her, that laptop is that yours? She said yes, she buyd it a few years ago with money she collected, because she photographs a lot (dah) and its really good to photoshop on that thing.
Ffs I want one for my work, which pays well, actually I can buy a brand new macbook with one month salary, why am I having these problems deciding? Am I the only one, again?
Wtf is wrong with me5 -
Some very friendly neighbor bought new wifi probably yesterday and it literally fucked up my wifi speed. I easily got like 30Mbits in the toilet, now it is only 2-5 megs dropping to 300kbits sometimes... Very fucked up. All channels are full and what is worse, if some channel is good on one side of the apartment, it is flooded on the other...
The only solution seems to be 5GHz, but it sucks, because its range is soooo small between these concrete walls, I would need at least 2 extenders lol.8 -
I learned my first lines of code in school. Oh the feeling of making "Hello world" appear on the screen😭😍
-
When I got my first few programs running - things like "Hello World" and simple console applications.
More recently (it still happens, which is a good thing) being thrilled when I got my discord bot running, and then again when I got music playing via YouTube streaming working.
That feeling is the kinda stuff that keeps me programming. -
The definition of programming...
Writing your code in a controlled environment and it works perfectly, then in a real world situation it simply doesn't work.
Spend 2 hours debugging and trying to find the error only to realize you were using your custom scripting language incorrectly in the first place....
Fuck that not infuriating in the slightest :-) -
Best: getting a job in systems programming which was my dream since I wrote my first hello world about ten years ago.
Worst: recognizing that time isn't the restricting factor but energy, I'm often just too tired to work on side projects -
My idea is really good actually my startup is doing great now.
But my first time pitch was a terrible one in front of a small investor. He trolls me but now in bootstrap mode we have more than 50+ customers world wide2 -
Am I too dumb if I do not understand good-first-issues on open source projects? I mean, I completed C++ Primer book. Tried to find a real world challenges to use my knowledge.
I look at those issues but I really can understand em, when they belong to a project with tens of modules etc. Maybe good-first-issue is for people who spends 20 hours just to understand project, before writing a single line of code.3 -

Damn, won an Aws deepracer car last year, but just got the news they're not shipping them to the UK :( was looking forward to playing with that!
I mean I guess $400 as an alternative is way more useful, but still... no new toy!2 -
My first program was a Hello world in my school lab on an old Turbo C compiler running on a Novell Netware server, in '13.
The thrill, seeing the code run and the output on the screen, was so mesmerising, I haven't looked back ever since then. -
Seriously, is there even a single web dev in the world, working an a considerably large project, that can run `npm install` without a single warning? After sorting out the errors on the first ten attempts, that is.6
-
I haven't even turned on my old laptop for a year. It's about six years old and becoming sluggish with modern software. Now I want to participate in a workshop for Raspberry Pi that requires you to bring a computer.
I feel like I should get me a new laptop, and knowing myself I'd get something in the upper mid range that gives a good bang for the buck and is slightly more pricey than I originally intended.
But I think it would be a very ridiculous thing to do, because afterwards it would just stand there while I do everything on my stationary computer, tablet and phone.
Maybe I'll throw in some lightweight Linux distro and see how far it takes me.
And feel like I should get me a new laptop.4 -
I think that happened with my first Hello world. I was so wowed that I clapped my hands loudly, and the other people that were in the room (some family acquittances) looked at me with that WTF look and wondered if I had really be gone mad. It was wrote in C, BTW.

hi
November 28/29 2018
I was in a different world. I experienced this different world. It is beautiful in the beginning and hell after. It is everything u need compared to our engineering world but dangerous with potential. This world kept killing me for 3 months. It was hell.
February 23/24 2019
I was in another world. Same as the first one but this one was better. I experienced everything u would ever need to experience in order to find the vision and purpose to go forward especially in sofrware engineering world. Motivation and the REASONN to go. Climb. Because of over 3 month suffering the pain was suppressed in the secondary world dimension.
March 31 2019
I am back into our world. With slight side effects from the previous two. I am left in scars from war. To travel to the other worlds is to invest extraordinary amount of time energy and effort. U have to vibrate at a different specific frequencies in this universe. It fixed me to continue but broke my focus.
I am here to tell you that u should travel to these worlds with extreme caution. You will know when to do it. You will know what i am talking about. When you do it, pull back quickly and continue in the software engineering regime. This message is abstract and cryptic. You will understand it when that day in your journey comes. Everyone will understand.
Never have the focus broken.3 -
When I first got started in web development I had to think really hard to write code to solve real world problems. It was rewarding and creative process. Nowadays most of my time is spent just trying to get bloated frameworks and plugins to play nice with one another! I hope the pendulum swings back at some point.

Think I'm being punished here...
first, the windows 10 update screen showed up... waited for that shit to finish... once finished, I thought, "that wasn't bad..." Then, THIS next screen shows up... "you've got to be kidding me!" So, it's punishment for not having opened the laptop in a while. :P
Yeah, it will be a wish come true, when Microsoft figures out how to do all this in the background... or something... so it's not painful to wait for updates to complete.
End of rant for the day.2 -
Why some leaders are afraid of changes. Everything in the world change and adapt to the trend of responsibly remote working. We must count the productivity and not the negative impact of envious people that all they can do is sit down and pretending to be busy. We all know that the first step of success is to accept change.1

Just started to get self employed and first customers while still in bachelor.
Now got a message from gf with a positive pregnancy test.
Everything's great. But it isn't devHappy, so here a rant: Why will my 1st be born in the year of Trump? Why is there still Windows, war and hunger?

Camembert cheese in the fridge is great, but how can one survive without the stronger Nespresso capsules ;(
-
I recently moved to a house where my gf and me each have our separate office space. However, i’m sitting with my back to the door so whenever i’m in the zone with noise cancelling on and my gf walks in i don’t hear her. Resulting in me having a couple of almost heart attacks lately.
I have ideas about mirrors or sensors but since i’m working of three screens i din’t think it will do. The second option is ofcourse to move the desk to the other side of the room so that i’m facing the door more. But there are no power plugs.
My gf basically locks her door by sitting in front of it. Also she doesnt have a noise cancelling head set.6 -
Merry xmas to all

I am using a Raspberry Pi with CUPS and a USB to LPT adapter to enable one of my customers to still print on an old HP DesignJet.
HP dropped support for this printer with Windows 7. Of course the generic HP PS driver with Windows 10 works - but only via CUPS not directly from Windows. Windows claims that the printer is not compatible.
What's wrong with this world?1 -
It seems odd that in a world where Web developers are mostly developing api first there are no tools that allow you to browse an unfinished but already authenticated REST api.
I would really like to have one but programming a full IDE/Project manager sounds like too big of a project.6 -
This is the 4th day at my new job. Just got a call from Unilever. Im invited for a second interview there. First world problems of a developer. What job to choose :/
-
in contrary to what you guys might think about me, I am way too fucking good person for this world. Even the boss of the company out of my city that I worked in last week when we met the first time told me that I am a good person and that is very dangerous in today’s world, especially because of people like him. Whatever that means8

I've been having this idea for a programmer's horror movie. The main villain is this dev (or maybe PM?) whose first program was "Goodbye World" instead of "Hello World", thus cursing all of his code from that moment on.
They write an artificial intelligence library but they don't document it properly so the user ends up creating an evil AI that threatens to destroy the internet.
Any ideas?3 -
What should I do, I have a central function that is not documentated and no test-cases are written for it. I have no clue what the method should really do, I know that it works in 99.9% of all cases otherwise we had much more bugs. Now there is one Unit-Test that reports an issue. I tracked it down to this method, no one touched the method nor the unit-test.
My logical thinking says that there is one statement missing, but it could also fuck up another part of the code... (This project has a bad testing coverage :'( )
What would you do?
- copy paste the method for this special case (I would hate me so much for breaking DRY)
- inheritance?! (Would make it more complex and then it would be still untested / undocumented)
- YOLO changing oO?! (hope for luck, just joking)
P.s it's an edge case unit test, the client / customer probably wouldn't realised it if it happens -
Where do you come into the picture in this timeline of the World Wide Web?

First of all what is the world that we are living in? So many people so many opportunities and the competition just keeps getting increased? In any field that you get into millions already have excelled in it you have to compare yourself there. Earning money is hard these days yet some people are just living their lives so easily. anyways back to grind. back to preparing for a pointless exam of a pointless semester in a pointless university in a pointless country in a pointless world. No wonder the Earth is round.10
