An interview via Skype
HR: (ask some technical questions)
Me: (give some technical answers)
HR: Great! I will send your answers to technical team and let you know asap. Have a nice day!
Suddenly I lost all my interests on that company.3 -
Wonder why my colleague threw this book on my desk?
I accidentally changed all product prices from decimal(10,4) to decimal(10,0) on two live web shops with several thousands of products.
And it's friday 4 pm.
Have a nice weekend!16 -
Female friend in office
"It feels so nice that we have a computer science grad with us. How else would have we managed to set up the printer without you?"
Not kidding. This actually happened with me.7 -
So today I found out I'm a Senior Developer. Was I told nope. Just found it on my contact details on the company address book. Ask boss about it he said yes I am. Would have been nice to have been told I was promoted...8
-
Friend of mine passed away several years ago. All other friends known me as Cooke monster so finally got my tattoo. He drew it for me before he died so it's quite personal! But nice to have something to remeber him for!18
-
Me: “Hi, Client. Did you review my proposal?”
Client: “Yes. You asked me to pay you using dollar bills. I found someone else who will do the work for mere pennies. Have a nice life!”
How does anyone make any money in web design and development anymore?14 -
Citizens are advised not to use encryption as decrypting data takes too much time and is costly.
Please spread awareness and save money.
Thank you for Cooperating, have a nice day :)6 -
Citizens are advised not to cover their Webcams and Mic ports by scotch tape or anything else, as the devices might get heated and may sometimes even burst.
Cooperation is expected from everyone.
Have a nice day :)12 -
Ooo, nice number 😁
Come to think of it, how many people do you think have it as their password? 😏19 -
I HAVE THE JOB
Well I'm a bit exited sorry about that :D I'm moving to Nice. And right now I'm going to enjoy my day.
BTW it's about C++ and Cry engine. There is the work in progress : https://thearchitect-thegame.paris/...
See you :D14 -
Never ever do two or three nice things with css, they'll call you the css guy and you will have to do all their shit.5
-
@dfox Can we have the option to include code blocks in rants and comments? So that they're formatted as monospace text? I mean we can get around it with pictures, but it would be a nice option to include code with an appropriate font. =)12
-
Citizens are advised not to use Firewalls on their devices or Networks, as there can be a fire threat from enabling those.
An active cooperation is expected from everyone.
Stay safe and have a nice day :)4 -
On the 18th October 2021 I had to hastily write some magic numbers into our code.
I added a comment saying "TODO: add a damn enum to make this selection clear"
Today, I refactored this module... and I used a damn enum.
Good things happen – have a nice weekend yall10 -
- had an interview going well
- existential crisis kicks in
- fear of being found out to be a fraud and phoney kicks in
This is why I can't have nice things! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯30 -
Was working in small startup with great people on new projects, but for very low salary and shitty conditions.
Changed job to big company with nice salary and great conditions, but people are assholes and have to work on legacy stuff mostly.
Guess you can't have everything.1 -
When you start a job and they tell you to put your nice laptop away, because you'll have to work on a company provided laptop running Windows 7 in a constricted environment on a project using Svn. And to top it off they tell you to trade in your IntelliJ for NetBeans.
Did I just travel back in time?13 -
Yeah sex is nice, but have you tried building your own CMS from scratch and finally begin to use the UI your set up yourself instead of typing urls in the address bar?8
-
Found this on /r/battlestation last night. I really like to have such neat and nice setup when I can afford in future (I hope). But have one question.
Is it suitable for non-gamers?
I'll be using it for coding, work, movies, etc. I don't think I'll play any game that seriously ever.26 -

All the beloved citizens are hereby informed that such RFID chips will be available for everyone soon and it is an honest request to everyone to get these implants as soon as possible.
Thank you for Co-operating, Have a nice day :)29 -
Have to do a programming task in 6 days, for an internship I applied for.
Have no clue how to do it. Guess I'll have a nice week learning stuff 😁5 -

Citizens are advised to store all their passwords into either text files or Google Keep, OneNote, Evernote so that it would come in handy whenever you forget the Password.
Please share this among your family and friends.
Have a nice day :)11 -
Everyone knows that coworker who just defies anything you say for no reason.
Me: "Ah, nice day today isn't it?"
CW: "Actually, today is historically mediocre compared to the rest of the days that have ever occurred."
Imagine trying to solve real problems with this dude.4 -

For some people that are starting with M.L either by hobby or study. This is a very cool website to keep close to when fiddling with concepts that are alien to you:
https://ml-cheatsheet.readthedocs.io/...
Just thought it would be a nice bookmark to have.
Cheers putos7 -
It's nice wanting to follow the best practice but many Java programmer have the bad habit to overdo it making lasagna code which causes painful headaches to who needs to maintain it afterwards. This is just a little sample of the "paranoia driven development" many does in my company.15
-
Me, complaining about being single: It would just be nice to have someone who cares how my day went every day
Scrum master: Hey...
Me: No5 -
Just found this in my photos, sent to me by my sister.
And hello devRant.
Oh well, have a nice morning/afternoon/evening.1 -
A friend of mine (who is French) has made a little firewall for Windows (idk why).
He sends me the binary, so I tested it and got around it fairly easily.
Replied to him: "I have a nice name for it: Maginot line" -
I have been hassling a client all week for some stuff. I asked my colleague if I should hassle them again today.
Me: Should I check in on them?
Col: Yeah just put a reminder in the chat
Me: i was nice
Col: wow you really were
Me: yeah I can be nice
Col: Did you wikihow?
Me: just went to stackoverflow4 -
Have you ever been forced to work with a younger and far less experienced colleague and in turn for being nice to him been lectured about basic stuff which he thinks he knows better (but he doesnt)? Gosh, I haven't been this angry in years...7
-
Note to myself:
Went alone to a conference, without knowing someone and
have problems to start a conversation with complete stranger,
is a stupid idea.
Social anxiety HURRAY but at least the talks were nice.4 -
that moment as a sys admin when everything is in peace and you have nothing to do.
I usually go outside and get me a nice cup of coffee at a local cafe
today its a Latte Machiato with white chocolate4 -
the dev team freaked our boss out by being overly nice and polite to him for a whole day .
Normally we're pretty laid back and tease one another, so he was pretty worried.
You know you have an awesome and tight-knit team when your boss threatens to fire all of you for being too nice and you can laugh about it.
#AwesomeBoss1 -
I see a growing trend of jobs with the following....
Frontend developer
Required: C, C#
Nice to have: HTML, CSS...
...FML -
I gave you a nice date picker to use but instead you choose to type in the date. Type in an incorrect date and then yell at me for it. If I could enter the dates for you , you would not have a job .... stupid users4
-
Okay, so this is my first rant and I have no idea how to make an avatar. Everyone else has nice image with person next to desk with it's laptop open - I want too ;D Or is it some kind of badge and it automagically updates by itself?21
-
I read a lot about people complaining about their shitty jobs. Some of us actually have nice jobs, but could really need more coworkers.
Wouldn't it be nice if devRant had the possibility to post job offers? Of course, no recruiters allowed, just awesome job offers, so we can all work together on some nice projects.
PS: Could really need some help at work :-)5 -
So lotta shit happened lately, life-wise and i don't know why but i have to share it:
There is a point after depression and being stressed out - it's this "well shit will work out someway.."-state of mind, where you have like an inner peace and everything is fine.
It's nice here.😪4 -
I have to actually like what I'm working on to get in the zone, and a nice glass of water;
You can't forget the good 'ol " fuck off, I'm coding " sign though.2 -
C is nice and all but have you ever had to massacre your code with preprocessor instructions to make your code portable?3
-
I'm doing my CV in Vue with Bulma and everything is all nice and neat. I have a nice and neat 'skills' section that you can see pictured, and it's nice and neat. However, what is not very nice and neat is Firefox (and chrome's) print to PDF thing which ignore the nice little semi meaningless dots that I have, which is so fucking asdfghjkl;27
-
Coding has actually made my life more social.
Because I taught myself programming, I became a consultant.
I got to meet nice colleagues, customers and managed to become good friends with some of them.
Because of programming, I moved to a big city and I have lived like a f*cking rockstar!2 -
Looking for a job as a developer, any type of developer:
Requirements: all skills starting with letters A to M.
Nice to have: all skills starting with letters N to Z.
Well, thanks :/1 -
So my colleague is listening to alot of Music and je always stomp the floor when he does - I really hate it.
I have created a nice firewall rule that blocks spotify, Youtube and all video and Music to his user and phone ever 5 minuter for 2 minutes.7 -

Hello dear fellow devs, I got some more nice ram and don't need those ram bars anymore. Write why you should receive them and they are on the way. For people outside germany you (unfortunatly) have to cover the shipping costs.17 -

I worked about two years on a browser game without using any version control. I also thought it would be nice to have absolutely no comments in the code.
-
I thought to myself, "i nee some company in my life"
1.Registers on a app to meet some people
2. Fills in profile
3. Falls asleep from bordom.
*ting*
Notification from app: "we see you are in the engineering field, want to have a look at the opportunities we have at our company?"
.. I look for company and get job offers. Nice2 -
Just to amend to my rant a year or two back where I said literally nobody uses anything I made:
Sweet sweet success :)
Finally, I have something nice to put on a resume.22 -
If you have tried vscode in the past, and disliked it give it another try. I gave it an hour of my time to set it up again and it is awesome. I've preferred sublime in the past, but they've improved so much, it's really nice.16
-
Any type of creativity what so ever. Whenever I have to design anything my mind kinda just goes blank.
Most of the sparetime I actually want to program is spend not programming because I'm not a very creative person.
Pic related, it's my webshite. Would like to make it nice, but I have very little in the department of creative talent 😭3 -
I used to work IT in an entertainment startup, and now I’m an iOS dev at a big entertainment company. Several people from my old company have been reaching out to eagerly tell me about their new app idea I just have to hear, asking me to help code their app— and have even hinted at me quitting my nice safe job to join their great new startup that doesn’t even exist yet.
I know this must happen to app devs all the time. What do you say?
How do you deal with telling these nice people who just don’t understand it doesn’t work that way, without crushing their dream? I have a coffee meeting planned to tell one of them “You should learn to code so you can make a proof of concept,” but I fear that won’t be received well.
What’s the standard protocol for telling people you won’t be able to code their magic app idea?10 -

Hey, first post!
Just wanted to say hi to everyone, been reading through Devrant past couple of hours and found it both insightful and hilarious.
It'll be nice to finally have a place to rant about shit my friends would normally not have a clue about.
I'd put a lengthy intro about myself here however I'm not really about that.
Anyway, Hope to rant soon!4 -
I was talking to someone at the grocery store and as they walked away, I said "Have a nice!" And instantly regret. Fucking speech problems. Have a nice... Day? Night? What? Stupid brain/mouth slurring my speech.
Oh, and the social awkwardness helps I guess...4 -

Does anyone have an idea about a nice goodbye message to write on cakes for my last day on my summer job?
Requirements:
- Should be short enough so I can write it with a choco pen on 20 cakes of about 10cm each.
- Should be about me leaving (I worked on a terminal application in qt c++)
- Should have something to do with programming17 -
When you live in Rural America and both the cable and DSL suck... you buy both and combine them. Went from speedtesting at 11.5mbps/2mbps to 18mbps/3.5mbps. Also have a nice VPN setup for when I'm out and want privacy on public wifi. Winning!5
-
Read "How to implement a programming language" (http://lisperator.net/pltut) and it was very cool and enlightening. I have decided to use what I learned to make a math evaluator with a proper lexer and extensible library and stuff like that. Not a full programming language but a nice and advanced math evaluator.10

Getting the corporate hard sell - after I gave notice at my job I've had my skip level manager and then _his_ boss offer me changes to stay. It's messing with my head!
People seem to be crawling out of the woodwork to get me to stay and it feels a lot like this is how one gets into corporate politics... but I swear almost none of these people cared about me before. Make it make sense!8 -
Nice! At least we have plenty of advance notice with which to plan. Design could be a little better, maybe.2
-
No arguments.. just me bitching over
var name_variable_int;
var someOtherNeme;
var ThisIsAlsoInSameFile;
that some guy thought would be nice to have in same file..
Just pick one, even if it's incorrect for the language, ffs!!5 -
I have to wonder if I've woken up in some kind of Escher-like warped surrealist world, as I've just used Chrome to download and install Internet Explorer 11.
As an note, IE11 was nice enough not to replace Chrome as the default browser.3 -
I once wrote a few really nice creative generic classes for an ASP.net project. Later, senior decided that we have to rewrite the whole thing, so he initialized a new project from a template and added my files in helpers/ as a starting point.2
-
Just bought a nice domain and I want to create a file sharing plattform ( think pomf ).
Does anyone have know some easy tool for it?31 -
Unrelated to programming but anyways: It’s great how you can go on a date with someone, message them a bit after that you enjoyed it, have them respond they enjoyed it to and then when you ask if they would like to do something again at some stage they read and don’t reply 🙃 Even a firm no would have been nice9
-
Today I was told I can't use the word retrofit in a sentence because I have to 'use words a nice year old would understand'
There's being an effective communicator and then there's becoming a soulless, creativity killing nazi13 -
Oh man don't you just LOVE the weekend? I have no fucking idea but I have so much energy and motivation now... I might even try to pull a all nighter on my personal project !
Anyway have a nice weekend everyone! 😁3 -
!rant
@dfox maybe add a "type" field at the bottom of the rant creation screen so people can classify rants as rant or !rant and not have to remember to type !rant (maybe auto-prepend "!rant")
Plus it would be nice to have the option to filter out non rants if people want to5 -
FUCK YOU ACCESS!!! FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!!! FUCK YOU DB PROF FOR FORCING IS TO USE THIS FUCKING PEACE OF CRAPWARE!!!
In the time I spent cursing at Microsofts bullshit I could have done the task twice in MySQL and would already have a nice looking fucking UI for this shit. FUCKING HELL.3 -
I have only been working with this open-source tool for 2 weeks, but already found 2 bugs. The maintainer is also nice enough answering questions quickly in the forum and submitting the issues for me.
It's nice to be able to contribute something to the open-source community. Yay for me! 💯
Too bad that next week, I will transfer to another project and stop working with this tool.3 -
"We have a nice documentation you can use to get this up and running"
>half the bloody variables used in said documentation are never even mentioned how they are defined
Nice. -
I barely have any energy to actually write something or reply something nice under all your posts so I'll be brief:
Happy New Year Everybody!
I wish to all of you that 2024 will treat you better than previous years ^_^
Have a fantastic year everyone <3 <3 <32 -
That f**king moment when you have integrated an Awesome feature in your app in less than an hour and then spent a whole day trying to properly resize a vector drawable so UI looks nice.... because user just care about interface!!!4
-
How many times do I have to tell my co-workers that testing isn’t just about proving your shit works in nice ways. It’s also about proving it works with sparse or inadequate data. Also, regression testing is a thing so do it!2
-
when you post your first rant ever and it gets upvoted by dfox :D
instant screenshot taken
seems like a really nice community here, glad to have found the app3 -
!rant
I didn’t mean to be all “notice me senpai” but it’s nice when an Architect tells you “I wish we would have though of that years ago” when you demo your new app.1 -
It's kinda nice to have a long weekend for a change to work on my endless list of unfinished side projects and code what I want to code, and not having to use fucking Windows 11 on a slow-ass work laptop.
-
Client said the images need to be responsive and go full width.
Told her that would make the images massive and we should have a limit in height a cropping enabled.
She told me it should look nice with full width images uncropped.
Fucking designers said the same fucking thing.
Client today: Hey images are huge. Make sure they look nice.
*sigh*8 -
The only time i pulled an all nighter was during the global game jam. You have to make a game in 48 hours and there were some nice to haves that I had to implement.
In 48 hours I slept only 5 hours. The rest of the time I was mostly programming. -
My hardware professor from first year at uni
He wasn't the best lecturer (which he openly admitted), but he was always willing to go an extra 10 miles to help you out, including essentially writing up the entire module into a nice document (70 pages long!) so we'd have good notes to revise from -
I kinda feel the pain of the developers over at Bungie. They just had over 15h downtime of Destiny 1 and 2 and had to stay up all night to fix it.
You did a good job - have a nice weekend :)5 -
Tell people you know how to code - they always have nice ideas for "new and innovative" apps and want you to code for them ;D3

To those of you who don't know about this, if you have a Microsoft account, you can sign up for Visual Studio Dev Essentials with it. Doing that gives you 3 months free access to Pluralsights, which is a really nice website to learn new stuff. Do check it out.2 -
Mgmt decided to start making technical documentation, which was nice. Then they said we have to do it in German because apparently everyone in the world speaks German.7
-
why is everyone hating on python lately?
I know it's not perfect, and it takes care of a lot of shit for you. and it's slow, and doesn't have a decent compiler, and PEP 8 encroaches on everything good in the world, and mandatory whitespace, etc.
yea. it's got some issues. but it's still a good language imo. and it's easy to write, it's fun to write, it looks nice (not Ruby level nice but ehh). not worthy of all the "fuck python!" talk.21 -
The new devRant long story feature is great! Very nice to have them in one place. Thanks devRant team!
-
Kinda positive rant: Started my new job today after I quit the previous one (or as we started to call it the "bad place"🔥). Lot's of nice people and so far a really nice atmosphere. A bit of information overload. They are working with a lot of technologies which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it kinda scares me. Also made me sad I have to start all over again making friends...I just felt really "new" you know.4
-
I think I have never seen a splash screen that changed background color based on in-app dark mode setting, of course it is nice to get flashbanged, but it'd be nice not to either.3
-
I respect Qt
I respect Qt
I respect Qt
I respect Qt
I respect Qt
I typed every line and did not copy any of those lines to show how much I respect Qt.
Have a nice day, gentlemen3 -
As you might have figured out my name is Kim. There is a gtld .kim. So my mail address is just subject@lastname.kim, which is nice.
Also always hilarious seeing people's reactions when you tell them where to write an email to8 -
Currently developing an app with React Native for work. It started as a "would be nice to have" feature but now people wanna join my dev team and company wants to see results too. And I am just a student trainee. FeelsGoodMan

I don't have anything to say about getting a dev job in some company. But I can give some tips on attracting clients for your freelance work.
* Have a few projects of your own hosted on Github to show off your quality code.
* Contribute to others' open source projects if possible.
* Get yourself a nice website and showcase all your work.
* Ask your current clients to write testimonials on your work and post it in your website.
* Be nice to your clients. Chances are they'll refer you to their friends and family.
That's pretty much all I've done and I get more freelance dev requests than I could take. -
Devrant is so full of people venting, I want to be an aisle of positivity, something you know you wanted for years on devrant!
First of all, remember that whatever your boss tells you, you should know what you can do and never let them intimidate you!
Whatever your mates tell you, the Issue probably isn't just you.
Remember to listen to many differentstyles of music. Keep Hydrated! Be nice to people, they'll be nice in return.
How about you come into the comments to have some nice talk? Remember: Only spread positivity 🌻🥀🌺
Ps: Havent ranted in such a long time. What's new?8 -
Latex, can you for once be nice and not fuck up my images, please?
Can you stop pushing this image which you clearly have enough space for to the next page and leave the previous page completely empty??9 -
Converting one of my older projects to use functional components and hooks instead of class components and prop drilling. It's nice.
Though now I have this useState:
const [ disembodiedHead, setDisembodiedHead ] = React.useState("");
Promise it's not as creepy as it sounds.5 -
When I was younger my mom would tell me to clean the soda cans off my desk. Now my wife tells me to clean the beer cans off my desk. It nice to have a beer when late night programming :)
-
One of my screens is currently not woking (out of three).
BECAUSE THIS STUPID ADAPTER IS NOT WORKING!!!
So I hang the ERD for my side projects on it... it's nice to have it on hand imo😎 -
Decided to make an edit of my avatar so that I could have an avatar that was a bit more accurate, and it looked nice and all in Photoshop. But then I exported it and fuck this2
-
Oh thank god for coffee.
Having one of those days where every slight criticism feels like a personal attack (they're not, I have very nice co-workers) and every small task makes me want to just go back to bed because I'm so useless...2 -
Consultant: "I don't agree with that, it's got to be something else" when you point to a known fault with the function they are using in the framework.
Then you send them 10 articles from stackoverflow and the framework's own website.
Consultant: "Oh. Thank you."
Just let me fix the damned bugs and not have to justify every single fucking change I have to make to make the damned thing work the way it is fucking supposed to.
This is why we can't have nice things. -
Project idea: make a fucking neural network visualizer, that gets my fucking model and gives me a proper fancy fucking visualisation in jpeg. 😐
I'm angry cuz I have to make that shit manually rn, and shit ain't playing nice.6 -
Now that we have devDucks with capes, if we get one will be getting also a virtual cape for our virtual devDuck? It would be really nice to have it, just a random idea :)3
-
Finally got a new role from testautomation to Embedded sw dev. I will also have to learn Rust for embedded and elixir for web facing side, which is nice!5
-
Turns out I'm terrible at meeting people. Go figure, it's the cliche of being a dev.
I just moved into a pretty nice apartment in a nice area, but I I know literally nobody here aside from coworkers. The only friend I have left that hasn't moved away is in jail for a good while. 😧
The only place I can think to meet people is at a bar/club - which isn't really my thing. Even then, just walking up to a stranger and striking up a conversation just seems fucking weird to me.
Anybody have any advice on making new friends in basically a new town?14 -
Thanks, client, for not telling me you were going to have a big sales event that needed my intervention. Nice Saturday I'm having.
-
for the people saying they have devrant on the main screen or even to the once that have it in the quick actions (really nice idea) I raise you with this, I just have to push in the top left of my screen and it opens devrant.4

I spend so much time developing, went to my parents and walkoutside. Cant believe i dont even remeber ever walking at the back part of this place. Actually looks nice. And they have been staying there for 5 years.
Anyhow. Back to the cave for me. Seems the internet is back up -
Not exactly vacation, but there was this nice-to-have feature in our application that I coded up in the hospital after my wife gave birth to our son. I wrote it during the downtime while they were both sleeping.3
-
I am drunk right now. Just wanted to let you guys know that I love you and that I am really proud to be part of such a nice community. I know that we Devs sometimes have a hard time due to our profession, but I am happy that we are still able to stay strong together.
And now good night. Have to work in 6 hours.5 -
AM BIOS: "Hi, I am your new Kaby Lake Motherboard. Nice to see you on my first ever run. I have seen that you have some disks attached to me. They must be new because I am ....Let me initialize a raid on them."
Me: o0 (W)ell (T)hat's (F)antastic!*

Has anyone switched to the new fire fox?I have I'm actually pretty happy with it it feels smooth and nice i just wanna know if anyone else likes it45

I have to say that I'm a little pissed by all this windows bashing... Can't understand all that Linux is the only OS you should use...
Have you ever tried to Programm C# without windows?!? It's really quirky and shitty if you can't use Visual Studio.
Have you ever tried to do something according to sound and producing... So you probably known something about Logic and for this case MacOS seems to be best.
I think Windows improved a lot over the time and they have done some nice things with the "new" powershell.
Don't get me wrong Linux is quite nice and you can get distros for nearly every use case but if you want your software to run by most of the people with a computer you have to develop for windows...16 -
When it started paying my bills and my hobbies 😎 Don’t get me wrong, I like my job, but at the end of the day it’s just a source of income that allows me to have a super nice life outside of work.1
-
Just started the day with a mail saying that I'm gonna have my stickers sent to my house.
This Monday looks nice.1 -
So it's Monday and its holiday in my country. But I have a deployment to do. Anyway I have this buddy accompany me which is nice.6
-
Today our webdev prof: "you must use bootstrap! You are not allowed to define your own classes!"
He's a nice guy, but I don't like frameworks, especially if they rely on other frameworks so much that you basically have another language.3 -
Finally selling my gtx 1070 and going to swap to AMD, just wanting to know if anyone has heard anything about the RX 590 finally playing nice with linux?
Heard it was causing a lot of issues, just don't want to buy it and have more problems than I am with NVIDIA at the moment!11 -

have a nice day.2 -
Had a bad dream one night that my bosses were going to run me through the ringer on some stuff that I needed to do better.
A day later, exactly that happened.
It would’ve been nice if my premonition could have had a few days gap between dream and reality so I’d have had some time to fix things first. -
Stakeholders must learn that code quality and a user-friendly frontend are not "nice to have". If they don't fix their priorities accordingly, someone will have to pay their technical debt and that's going to be expensive.5
-
Well fuck. This laptop was nice, then the hinges decided to remove themselves from the mount points. Also a metal side rail mananaged break as well...
Anyone have good suggestions for laptops? Prefer machines with a distro of Linux on it, but not afraid to install8 -

Here's another suggestion (sorry to keep bothering your team!).
When I'm scrolling through my notifications, it would be nice to have them colour coded, for example, mentions could be highlighted with a slight yellow tint, and ++'s could be not highlighted at all..etc.
Thoughts?5 -
Been trying #rust for 3 weeks now and I really like it. No hopes for a job, but it's nice to have different point of view when coding in Go.3

My worst mistake was to have localhost phpmyadmin up, and beside the production one. I ran DROP on production instead of localhost. That was not a nice feeling when I realised 😐1

two things people think they are good at, but actually have no clue about:
regex and sex
[I just needed an excuse to write a post about those two, since they sound really nice to each other :D ]7 -
Them: “EQ is the number #1 predicator of success in any industry nowadays and it is essential for everyone to practice”
Oh nice - tell me this though: How have you measured your progress developing your EQ corresponding to your success?
Them: *dial up sounds*13 -
I was messing with my lemonbar + i3status config (with sway), when I decided to ditch i3status entirely and generate a status line using pure Awk. Battery is calculated from /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0, got workspaces (Material Design Icons) working, have a nice dated, and all colors match Solarized Dark from Vim. Have underlines, highlights etc. setup.
It's so beautiful :)4 -
Demo
Backend Team : No one want to listen to technical details. A short 2 min demo what we have done.
Shareholders : Have you done anything?
Frontend Team : half an hour demo of validators and fields that sum values from other fields
Shareholders: Wow that is awesome, great job, nice to see, great value, lot of progress.4 -
There's an old adage that says: "Beware the programmer with a screwdriver"
... but I've got to say, it's nice to have people so curious about what I'm doing for a change. -
Wow seeing so many GDPR fails at the moment. This is in the 94% game app. Nice of them to ask, unfortunately you have to accept!4

I don't like change, especially change in toilets. I tend to have a list of toilets I can use. For the last 3 months I have been avoiding the toilet at my new job, but am sitting on her right now, she's quite nice. I'll name her algo.4

TLDR: I've become what I used to hate (without actually knowing it).
I used to hate large companies and their way of working (bureaucracy and stuff). I always thought that I'd work for start-ups, until I started developing my own stuff after work cause now I have to work 9-5 instead of the 9-inf before. Well, it was nice sharing this. When I started working here I thought I would not be able to handle it. But it seems nice so far.
Cheers everyone.1 -
Have you ever been so frustrated with your Tester that you go from wishing everyone "Have a nice day" to "How about a high five on your with a spirit bomb" in exactly 2.9 seconds?
QA - Just give this bug to the frontend guy already, he'll figure out if it is from back end, design, front end or business requirement. -
TGIF & remember..
DO NO FUCKING PUSH TO PRODUCTION TODAY!
DO NOT FUCKING RELEASE A NEW VERSION OF THE CLIENT APP!

Styling can be diffucult. You have the most beautiful idea for a masterpiece layout in mind. You begin to work on it and goes from 'very nice' to complete disgust..3

I'm currently doing my work on a desktop pc and I wanted to get a notebook, for doing my stuff on the go.
Do you have any ideas which notebook I could get (maybe a cheap but still strong notebook)?
I heared that MacBooks are pretty nice to work with, but I don't think that I have the money for it... :(9 -
I don't have a job so uhhhh I would suggested don't go dressed like a slob look nice like not to nice but like worthy like a button up shirt blue jeans and combed hair and shoes nice looking one burshed/combed3

It all began with an advanture.
i was travelling through codeland and met all sort of nice creatures. C++ and Java were among my first encounters. C++ was geary (full of gears) and java was objected (sorry made up of objects). nice folks. was still wandering when a halous (great, a halo around) person appeared. it was the nice python.
he likes to take his meeters (people who meet him) on a fairic (fairy-like) ride, passing countless of flexible alleys, open (source?) spaces as well as honey falls (waterfall-like streams).
but something was odd, really odd, .... travelling. you could not walk in here you had to fly. fly fly fly. no foot touched the land. no android they said.
or they said you have to put on a pair of shoes called kivy. the shoes fit according to no fixed rule. sometimes they worked, sometimes no. another pair of shoes called sls4. it was nice but unfortunately was only half a shoe long on each feet.
python android is still a dream, a nice binding kept ridiculously in the egg. it is yet to hatch. -

I love emacs dired mode.
Nothing better than the full power of a decent text editor to edit directory content.
I know quite some multi-file-naming tools, but they are all crap compared to dired.
That's all. Have a nice weekend, everyone!1 -
Can't decide if I should join this nice internship or let myself enjoy this summer and rest a bit, as I burned out a bit this semester with studying and freelancing.
Why is it so difficult to decide..
The internship is at cool place with nice tech and I feel like its a nice opportunity to grab, but I feel like I need the rest too.
And I have to decide tomorrow. I guess I'm terrible at decision-making sometimes Ffs..3 -
When your colleagues says "have a nice weekend" but you might need to work 48 hours over the weekend

So, due insanely annoying youtube algo, I just wanted to listen related music to given author - not really what I usually listen to. You know the youtube drill, it's suggestion feed sucks hard.
So I kick in incognito, my typical workaround and wait a second... it prompts me to check out youtube music (didnt know its a thing) and well, well, well... It's actually pretty nice. And solves my suggestion feed problems.
Nice. I have no idea when they deployed that but it's lookin preetty nice (at first glance) and dosent use as much bandwidth. Sweet, exacly what Dubby needed.
(said person who dislikes spotify cuz 60% of music I listen to is just not there) -

A friend suggested a job offer from the company he's working for.
The team seems nice and mostly the same age as me. Also everything seems much more informal than my current company.
Besides the fact that I have not yet applied for this position, I already tempted to decline every bullshit meeting I have to participate :D
Seems that is time to change ;)7 -
Hey, I have a cool idea about a new way to solve a problem our users are having!
Type type type, now I have a working prototype! Show it to the team, everyone loves it. Polish it a little, it works really great!
Now let's test it on an iPad like the ones our users have... Nope, nothing works, undefined is not a function.
F*CK YOU SAFARI, you're why we can't have nice things. 😤 -
Guys, do you know any good source to learn MVVM to android (kotlin would be nice). I know MVVM theory and practice (I used it in WPF, C#). But i have hard times understanding how it work with android. I watched reso coder, but his tutorials are even harder to understand. Thanks3

That nice feeling, when your laptop battery has 10% of charge left and you *know* you still have a good half an hour to do whatever you're doing before you have to worry about it.
You're more likely to finish your task than run out of juice.
This brings all kinds of satisfactory feelings 😌5 -
I wish real world would have breakpoints and we could just go back to fix those bugs.
What is wrong with people... Trump, Munich, Ansbach, Nice, Brexit, Orlando... so many bugs to find...3 -
I think that we should have a global tech free day once a year. A day when no one is allowed to use their phone/computer/tablet etc.
It's scary how addicted we are to that shit and it would be very nice if everyone just got a day off.3 -
Having a degree in math helpes immensely with programming. Abstract reasoning, calculation simplification, sussinct data representation, nice things to have.

Commit changes that is working perfectly.
Goes on vacation for 2 days.
Comes back to work and only half of my changes were merged to the test environment.
Also, the merge master decided to update my branch with the test branch.
Nice... now I have to redo most of my work.1 -
Devrant works surprisingly well here in China, except for saving pictures everything else works(mostly) but it's still nice to be able to use it here
Anyone else have similar experience in their country?11 -

To become reasonably proficient in AWS.
It's the one relevant area I feel like I'm being left behind in at the moment. Every other job listing I've seen has it as a requirement or a nice to have, so it'd be a good box to tick. -

Man i fucking love my current living situation. The people are so fucking nice here, my neighbours almost all go into the same school as me and are therefore technical versed/share the same interests. My School is super awesome due to some of the teachers, where you can learn so much. Really starting to have a passion fo programming although it takes up so much of my freetime, i nearly don't do anything else anymore but I want to learn as much as possible.
It's a super nice day even though I have to study maths all day but fuck it! That doesn't stress me!

I need recommendations for a Bluetooth keyboard for my MBP 2018 15". Thanks! 🙂
My preference:
- compact and quiet (no numpad)
- soft to press
- chiclet type with normal travel
- OS X layout
- NOT a mechanical keyboard
- NO USB receiver
Nice to have/Bonus:
- good design for office work
- backlit functionality
- known brand
- rechargeable5 -

I got to thinking it might be nice to have my own personal fingerprint reader. I could carry it with me and hook to my work computer for tasks such as sudo and login. At home I could login. I figured there ought to be some nice cross platform devices... Oh hell fuck no. Its all Windows shit. Most of them say windows 10 and usually say don't work on Linux, Mac, or Android.
So I think I am going to hack my own:

I have a 3d printer that I can use to enclose this and make it look nice and personalized. I can embed any kind of functionality I want to make this work.

Has anyone played around with kaggle.com to get into data science?
I’m good with data, good with analytics and good with programming but I need to combine those skills and learn whatever I’m missing.
Kaggle came up and it seems to have some nice data sets and challenges to do.

Some journaling sorry. But hey I’m extremely drunk. Feel like I don’t care anymore if I die bc I have already lived an experience of being born. Also being raised in a nice childhood. I have nothing to complain about. Just made out with a goth chick. She’s so nice I hope she’s ok. Anymore I don’t care about sex but just crave closeness. Just someone who understands who we can share love with each other without bounds. I be ballin tho. By the end of the day, I hope to own some properties and a business on my own.2

#Bug, I think
This is the second month in a row in which money has been taken from me to go towards the amazingness that is devRant, however, I do not have the cool [++] badge next to my name...
Not like that's the only reason I'm giving money, but it's a nice perk!!5 -
I usually don't do these types of posts, but it's a nice number, and i feel lucky to have caught it. Usually I just miss it by a few and then my next rant gets too many ++ and I just miss it.2

Maybe not the place to rant about this but I was unable to post on r/VPN nor r/NordVPN because I have insufficient karma (I have negative karma). I just want to ask some questions!!!! It's the same frustration as in Stackoverflow when I want to upvote something and tells me I don't have enough points (I only have 2 points). Today, we can edit comments or post upto 5 mins only to maintain the flow.
But would it make sense to be able to amend comments and post anytime and east way to see publicly the history of edits. This will serve the original purpose while correcting cosmetic changes even after 5 mins.

nice, the way too old and confused woman i have to do work for suddenly remembered she has a meeting to showcase my mid-development app next tuesday.

Who designed keyboards? It would be so much easier to learn typing with 10 fingers if it would be symmetrical, like, have the keys be on top of each other like the numpad, the numpad looks nice, feels nice and it's easy to remember, the rest isn't clearly on top of each other and the indentation isn't the same

So I have this habit of googling weird things, obvious things and random things. Over time, I've stuck to using incognito all the time because Google suggestions and targetted ads annoy me (almost) like nothing else. It's a really nice thing to know that some algorithm out there is not judging you.
On the downside, you'll have to constantly explain to people around you that you're not a porn addict. :/3 -
what is so fucking wrong with solving all the problems you set out to solve and finding new ones to solve goddamn it ????
why do I constantly have to revisit shit I already did ?
There is no expertise except in problems people solve all the time because eventually specific unused knowledge fades !
Note i say eventually, not suddenly and overnight as has been accomplished previously.
Point is why can't I have my nice organized set of solutions to my common use-cases solved and not have to be bugged anymore and compile a nice list of them so I can page through when I need jesus christ !8 -
That's a nice non-anniversary version of Windows 10 you have there... It would be a shame if something happened to it...
Damnit Microsoft! Don't update when I boot the computer in the morning :-[ -
On one hand, it would be nice to have someone else help me out. On the other hand, I like having total control and knowledge of the source and I don't like people messing with it.

Code::Blocks, because why make it look nice, bother having any auto-complete functions, actually ensuring all of the built in C++ functions work and not having the need to sometimes have to be closed down and restarted to build and run the code 😤1

The nice thing about my current side project is that I don't have to care at all about optimizing. It takes 5 seconds for the motors to do their thing and I spend 95% of that waiting even with my horribly slow (but easy to write) code.1

Fellow ranters,
I have been devoting few hours to the book called cracking the coding interview.
It's a fun book. Questions are nice.
But does it help even a tiny bit in interviews?3 -
I have skipped a job follow up after a nice interview at a seemingly great software development firm two months ago, and it was because they used slightly different technologies. Now, I wanna do ANYTHING to switch my current job to another one.
How should I approach the company I didn't follow up with now? Especially when they still have the job posting on their website.4 -
I got a new QHD monitor for work. Then I realized my notebook only supports one digital output which mens I have to use one nice looking QHD monitor and one, over VGA connected, realy crapy locking monitor. I definitly think I need a new notebook..

Hi devRant,
I'm starting a little side project (a web app for finding/booking musicians) and have to decide which language to use for the backend. I have broad experience with Java and C#, but it would also be nice to learn something new (Kotlin? Go? Rust?)
Additionally, what's your recommendation for databases? (SQL vs. NoSQL vs. ...)
For the frontend, I'd like to use typescript, webpack and Vue.js.
Any thoughts? ;)8 -

I know this is not the place to be asking questions but does anyone know about a ftp/sftp client that syncs your bookmarked servers with some cloud solution (e.g. Dropbox, ...)?
This would be really nice to have for teams/people with multiple laptops.4 -
WinUI looks nice and performs really well, I'm not a Windows fan but that's definitely a hidden Microsoft gem. It's a same which Microsoft was really late to the desktop development game and kept providing ugly frameworks until few years ago otherwise we could had a nice ecosystem on desktop apps on Windows as we have on macOS instead of tons of ugly and slow Electron based apps.3

I have been searching for a suitable bootstrap web app template for a project for two days now...
I am done with the backend, it’s just remaining a nice template, I can tweak to fit in my requirements.2 -
Since I am a contractor, I will have 2 one on one's.
The one with the client, who is an architect, will be nice.
But the 1:1 with my company's manager, whom I gotta report to ,sucks. -
Is it possible to change ram usage for Wine on ubuntu? Some say it's up to 64 by default. I have 128 and would love to use all of that. (I make music and nice quality samples require a loooot of memo).1

Best way to estimate a dev project for me is to establish what are the nice to haves and the must haves. A lot of times I’ll get a big list of requirements or a vague outline, so I need to figure what are our priorities.
If the project involves a new service that we have to purchase, then that project’s time estimate is one weekend because that’s how long it took other companies to implement per that service’s account manager lol 🤣1 -
Something on my server suddenly ate away all the hdd space. Like, 300gb in a few days. Nice. Now I have to investigate that instead of doing my work..4

I wish I didn’t have the ability to feel emotions - being completely emotionally blunted… no feelings except only the mechanism for getting things done that I need to get done. I wish I could just switch them off forever… I would never need anyone. It sounds really nice. People upset me10

looking for minimalist developer personal portfolio examples for inspiration for a redesign of my current site.
i want to keep it basic but i really want something slick yet minimal for a replacement to what i have now - possibly with some nice css animations and whatnot.

Not sure if I'm missing it or not, but is there a way to display rants from newest to oldest order? At the moment it only displays by largest ++ in descending order. Would be nice to have a sort by option.5

What software are you guys using that you recommend everyone should have? Anything from text editors to compilers to social apps. I just got a new laptop and I'm looking to get some nice software on it.5

There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones who've listened "Tower 4" podcast and the ones who don't have. It's too cool. But just listened last episode, have to wait a month for new one. Six are available now.
Tower 4 is just a story, but it's very well made. It's about a guy that becomes firewatch living in tower 4 and only has the girl in tower 3 to talk to. Much nice dialogue. There exists a game, much like it.
What are other nice story podcasts?9 -
Any tinker's here?
I'm in no way one, but I have to start with something, and recently I've buy a Moto Z2 Play, that has this little and nice interface that allows "Moto Mods", practically are modules that you "snap on/off" and add functionality to your phone.
Does anyone here have tried the MDK? do you think this is promising or just another trend to get lost in the way? -
now our apache server can have a nice flavor 🤭

There seems to be a lot of 10 series laptops with 6th gen processors, but not many 10 series laptops with 7th gen processors. It'd be nice to have refreshed hardware in one machine1
