I just can’t imagine it.

(.-. ) “Same”
( ._.) “Friends?”
(.-. ) “Friends”125 -
When you look back on your github activity and just think "Wow, we have really created something special. This is really going to help the world." It just... It gets me. That's why I do this day in and day out.14

Friend: How much do you charge for a website?
Me: Depends, what do you need?
Friend: Just a basic website.
Me: I am going to need more details than that, is it static HTML site? Do you want to be able to add content yourself? Do you have hosting? Do you....
Friend: Dude, just give me a rough estimate.
Me: But...
Friend: It's for a friend, he has an idea for a business.
Me: ...fine...$100 million 👿
//Because making a website is just a push of a button to some people21 -
Client: can you fix the slider on my homepage please?
Me: It seems to be working just fine
Client: it works but it’s not how I want it, fix it
Me: well what do you want me to change then?
Client: don’t change it, just fix it!
😒2 -
"It is just a small task. I can do that in just..." Never ever ever say the above statement even if you are 10000% confident.5
-
Friend(non dev): Hey. Do you know how much it costs to maintain an app?
Me : Well that depends. What are you planning to do?
Friend: Something like Trivago. But small.
Me: That still doesn't tell me anything
Friend: Come on. Just give a number. How hard can it be?
Me: 42. *facepalm*
Friend: See wasn't that hard. Was it?
Me: *thinking* Don't correct him. Just let him be.19 -
Me: "My PC is sad what should i do? "
Tech-Support: "what do you mean your PC is sad"
i wonder whose(developer) idea was it to put just smiley instead of meaningfull error...9 -
It's the biggest satisfaction to know that Wix means wank in German!
"why not do it yourself" just adds to it.6 -
Dev: So how do you want this feature fixed?
Manager: It should work how it worked before.
Dev: I'm new to this feature, I don't know how it worked before or what is broken about it.
Manager: Well just make it work like it worked before.
Dev: I DONT KNOW HOW IT WORKED BEFORE THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING YOU. PLEASE TELL ME SO I CAN DO MY JOB.
Manager: Just how it worked before!
Dev: ...
Manager: ...
Dev: fuck you17 -
Just finished all the form function, time to clean up I guess.
Did you guys like to write it clean from start or do it later at the end?38 -
Uncle- What do you do?
Me- I'm a software engineer
Uncle- My brother's friend's son is also a software engineer.
Me- (so what am I supposed to do about it?) yes that's nice
Uncle- I have a great idea, u should implement, I'm just telling you, it is a revolutionary idea
Me- (oh fuck, not again) yes tell
Uncle- you should make a matrimonial site which tracks what people do on internet and tell their to-be-spouses about it
Me - (yeah, I'll get sued for breach of privacy, and it has got nothing to do with my current line of work, and will probably cause divorces before marriage) yes great idea uncle
Uncle- see I told you this billion dollar idea, u should do hard work and make it
Just WHY in god's name do all uncles think laptop is a magic box in which I just have to type their idea in and it will spit out a website/software in 2 minutes. I don't go around advising them about their line of work.11 -
What do you do for a living?
I just write line of codes until it works and looks aesthetically pleasing.3 -
Client: I will send the design you just make it.
Me: uhh,..are you sure you can do it?
Client: ofcourse i can
*2 days later, sends this*6 -
Why is it formatted like this? Cant they just do a \n on a capital Letter? This looks so terrible😢9

“Can’t you just open up my iPhone right now and check what’s wrong with it??”
My response: “See, you already know what to do! Since it’s so easy, why don’t you just do it yourself?” -
"Do you know the HTML? I need an email template"
Nah, the website just fucking magically made itself, it was amazing.2 -
Execs: “We know the business, we should do this”.
IT: Eh, data shows the opposite though...
Execs: We don’t need data, we just know.
IT: Dafaq!?2 -
Found this one in Facebook 😂 This one seems quite popular and IDK if someone's posted it here yet.6

When project manager is talking about things that I have no idea but I just keep saying "Yes, I can do it"1
-
This is a conversation my friend and I had.
Me: let me just delete this file
*rm -rf filename*
Frnd: what does the rf do?
Me: Don't know man I just do it coz the memes tell me to.6 -
Guy: - "Your restart script doesn't work."
Me: - "What do you mean?"
Guy: - "It does nothing."
Me: - "It should kill every processes that's running within the project and start them again. Wait... Why do you terminate it?"
Guy: - "I don't. It just stops."
Me: - "It says `Terminated` here. You killed it. Just let it do it's job, don't kill it."
Guy: - "I'm not killing it! It just stops!"
(...two hours later...)
Me: - "Wait... Where do you run it from?"
Guy: - "What do you mean? I just run the script you gave me."
Me: - "Yeah, but where do you run it from? Where did you put it?"
Guy: - "It's part of the project so I put it in the project, d'oh!"11 -
Ok google, set an alarm in 20min works great but when you say ok google, cancel my alarm it just says you can do that in the app. I know I can do it in the alarm app, but I am a lazy piece of shit, that's why I asked you to do it!4
-
When you and your team just gave a thousand reasons why you should do it the right way and your PM just nodded and continue to argue for the retarded way to do it cause it's faster ..2
-
Dev: I need you to do X
IT: Ok we will do Y
Dev: I don’t want Y I want X
IT: Well you’ll need to go through the change request process then since you have just modified your requirements.
Dev: …6 -
When you've been working your ass off for months alone on a project with major backend features and the feedback you get from the CEO at the demo is "I don't like the colour".3
-
After spending hours with one problem and when you finally get it working:
1. Yei it works!
2. What? Why does it work?
3. WTF did I just do to get it working?

Me: How can I delete pushed commits from origin?
Colleague: Just do git reset --hard and then git push -f
Me: But this is dangerous
Colleague: Wait, I'll do it myself
Colleague: Done
Me: But nothing happened
Colleague: Fuck. I just removed all changes on my own branch2 -
Oh god, where to start? It is my job to fight against devs that likes to breaks RFC, do stuff stupidly or just do not actually know how stuff works7
-
Just got a message from a client:
"I want to do it good and fast".
That's gonna cost something man!! :')3 -
Win 10 is the best, I love how it just restarts without asking, no more hassle of me having to confirm anything, or save data first. finally an OS that has the confidence to just do whatever the fuck it wants, so awesome!3
-
You know what Linux has taught me? That above anything, a computer is just a tool. There is a lot you can do with the tool, but do not depend on it so much that you fear losing it.1
-
Just do it!™️
For real.
Thinking about writing an app? just do it!
Thinking about creating a website? Just do it!
Thinking about the game? You just lost!6 -
Just found codereddit.com and it looks amazing way to camouflage. Do you think devRant requires similar version?2
-
When your customer says "I'm sure it takes little time to do it" and you know you just won another two weeks of work...3
-
No matter how hard requirement look or the thing you're going to develop JUST START THAT SHIT it will take time but you can and will do it.

*squirming in bed*
If it ain't broke don't fix it.. If it ain't broke don-WHAT THE FUCK IS "payment.needed2"??
Calm down, it's just some bad code but it works, you didn't write it, it's not your probl-WHY THE FUCK DO THE IF STATEMENTS HAVE SO MANY DUPLICATED LINES??
Sleep. Just sleep. -
They call it “Personalization”, “Analytics” and “Customer Success Research”. But back in time when I was using Alcohol 120 and StarFuck just to play games we called it “Spyware”.
Like it’s only spyware when you do it, but when we do it it’s “Research”.3 -
Me in school: Math? When do I need know those details? I can look them up and just code it.
Me in high school: Computer science is way too math-y. I want to code!
Me coding php: Just make it work.
Me coding typescript: Just make it work.
Me coding scala: Just make it ... what ... how do I make it work!?!
Me asking stackoverflow: How do I do X in scala some functional programming stuff in mind in order to keep immutability.
Somebody way smarter than I: "In scalaz, a function A => A is called an endomorphism and is a Monoid whose associative binary operation is function composition and whose identity is the identity function"
Me now: Fuck my old arrogant self.1 -
FOR THE LOVE OF CHRISTMAS, LET'S STOP THE LANGUAGE WAR.
JUST FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW, WE CAN DO IT.6 -
It seems like everybody here was born as a legendary coder or started in their teens. I'm 24 now and just starting out.
How did you guys do it???44 -
Just got AWS free subscription, had fun for 30 mins. Now I don't know what to do with it. Can someone give me idea for something to do with it.17
-
So this just happened...don't test on production kids (....sometimes you have no choice BUT DON'T F**KING DO IT OK!?)6
-
I just discovered this editor. It's kinda cool :)
Have you ranters used it? What do you have to say about it?31 -
Did an app for my college.
Everyone liked the features in it.
But when it came to the money part, (I didn't ask the actual cost, I only asked then 10% of actual standard cost) they were like improve it more, do this do that ("for free").
I held onto "If you're good at something, don't do it for free".
Just wasted my time in developing that.2 -
I just bought hitgub.co
Honestly have no regerts about it.
Idk what to do with it, but I'll figure it out.11 -
When a senior employee farted like hell and can't do anything about it, but to deal with it because you just started as a junior. 😷13
-
It might be a stupid question, but:
Do the full-stack devs of you actually have that function in the job contract or does it just say "(junior/senior) software developer"?
Mine says just "Software Developer" and in my opinion it sounds just too generic and undervalued for what I'm actually doing...22 -
Just finished another conference call. Broken voices, confusing accents and awkward silences. How do you guys handle it?3
-
So today i thought of solving mathematical problems.
That's it.. i just thought 😂😂
I should better do coding6 -
I was just asked to explore Ionic Framework any advise?
Please tell me I will not face hell doing an ionic app :(
I started reading docs and the word Cordova appears to be used a lot, I had a really bad experience with Cordova + PhoneGap, am I in trouble? am I going to regret life?10 -
I always love it when a manager who has no coding background tells me to "just do this" without ever letting me do any research. Just because you see it in you favorite app does not mean that feature is trivial.1
-
A friend just asked me if I can convert a pdf to an image file.
Me: yes sure (easier to do than to ask why)
Me: What format do you want it in JPG or PNG?
Friend: yes
Me: ...
Sometimes it's easier to just do it than to start asking and teaching people how to use computers...3 -
How many times do I have to tell my co-workers that testing isn’t just about proving your shit works in nice ways. It’s also about proving it works with sparse or inadequate data. Also, regression testing is a thing so do it!2
-
I hate it when (Java) programmers produce such clutter just because their OOP 101 professor told them to do so in 2005.
I refactored it using `git rm`.12 -
"damn bro, you made that? how can i get into coding?"
shut the fuck up. you can get into programming like anyone who wants to can. by googling how to code. it's not the question itself that bothers me, it's the fact that if you actually wanted to code so bad, you already would've googled it. stop projecting your lack of passion on me.
this is most common with programming, but it happens so often with so many other things.
if you want to learn about biology and chemistry, there's free courses online and papers from nih.
if you want to learn about forsenics read a book about it and read about cases and how they were solved.
i could go on and on. the internet gives you access to so much that if you actually wanted to learn something, you would've already have.4 -
What do you think of this Language? It is a game changer or just another language which will soon die?
https://vlang.io/31 -
Uhhh I'm on like the 12th or 13th week of not touching any code.
I just don't feel like it, and now classwork is piling up, so I just don't do it. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️6 -
So... do you actually talk to a dev duck like you would to a normal person, or do you just imagine talking to it?8
-
The switch from “Wild West” to ITIL uncovered so much bull crap. 20% of the people where doing 80% of the work. And then people were keeping some things alive by shear will, once Changes and Service Requests were required, it was shown how awful the environment truly was and how few people in the company knew how anything worked.
-
When i think
I cant fuckin do shit right
When i just code without thinking
I fuckin code it right

Is it just me or do other people think those tutorials you run across on YouTube where it is just a screen recording and background music are super annoying. I would like at least a little explanation other than you typing in notepad.2

Sometimes I wish I could just print out Ubuntu byte by byte onto a paper and then throw it into a fire to just watch it burn... ....🤔.... .....hold on!.... ....waaaait a moment.... can I just literally do "dd if=/dev/sda | lp" ?!! 😈 ...brb1

Do people really struggle with CSS?
I thought it was just design and ideas but is it actual CSS y’all struggle with?
Not judging. Just asking to be sure31 -
Traditional programming means spending *days or even weeks* to write instructions to make the software do what *you* want it to do.
AI modelling means spending *weeks or even months* to tweak instructions just to find that the software does whatever *it* wants to do.2 -

If you don't know how to do it the proper way, just throw something together. :D
Might not be pretty, but it works... (only took about 3 hours)13 -
This happened at the beginning of my first job:
Me: I want to clarify some things that wasn't specified in my task. I want to see if I need to do them and how I should solve it.
Senior dev: Don't worry about it. If testers pass the task back to you, then you do it. Just do as it is.
Me: 😓2 -
Yahoo finance shut down all their historic data uRL and im out of options. No API or packeges works. I have a report to pass up on tuesday for my ViVa and this is shit. Fuck. My months of work just wasted.7

What do you guys think about Visual Studio Code?
I personally like it, just wondering your opinions.11 -
Do you have the feeling sometimes that programming is not what you wanna do but that you just do it cause it’s the closest to what you really enjoy?6
-
I’m new on here I’m just here to rant and idk what to do with this app and I might delete it but I CANT STAND IT. I CANT STAND PEOPLE CONSTANTLY SAYING THINGS THAT BOTHER ME AND JUST SAYING”NO OFFENSE” AND CONSTANTLY HAVING AN OPION ON EVERY SINGLE THING I DO OMG I SOMETIMES JUST WANT TO SCREAM AND SAY TO SHUT UP.😐5

How do some of you deal with being under qualified when it comes to job searching?
Do you still try to send an application just to see if it sticks?
Or do you try to find a listing that matches a great majority of your qualifications.2 -
OMGosh! I am so screwed! Just got a call from someone saying my warranty on my car expired! I just bought it last year! What am I gonna do?!2

Are desktop PCs becoming a legacy, a history, just like floppy disks or CDs? Do you have one? Do you really need it?
I do have a decent tower pc in my balcony since last year. Haven't used it since early August and I honestly don't know what would I use it for once I bring it back in28 -
Some people just don't get it. When you meet friends who are either non technical or very new to programming, all they ask you is what language do you use.
The language is important but not everything. It's what you do with it that matters. Just because you know python, doesn't mean that you can do machine learning. Even simply asking what do I do is better than that!
The language is just a tool! Learn to be language agnostic please. Be a programmer, not a code monkey2 -
What do you think about replacing the backend with Google firebase, it would just save so much Work?7
-
Question: Have you ever worked for a toxic company? If so, did do you do something about it? Any tips?
By toxic I mean the abusive kind, where racism and sexism are "just jokes" and where clients are essentially scammed into buying software that doesn't do what they think it does.8 -
Do you guys usually hear music during coding sessions? Or just put up that headphones without plugging it just to concentrate on the lines??3
-
Insertion sort exists
99% of devs:
Bubble sort for the win!!
Just... use... framework-provided sort! Stop trying to do it yourself!3 -
Just created a tiny (not yet stable) selector library that allows you to change properties on multiple elements just like you would do on a single one. It also has some more useful features. https://github.com/kosimst/kazel
Still in development, but prototype should work. What do you think?6 -
fucking T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM when you want to reproduce it to someone, who does't believe this, I simply cannot do it, but if you want to just do your thing, it gets you on every corner6

I just don't understand why people use the try-catch on calling a method that will throw exceptions just to ONLY re-throw it again, what would you do that for? :(5
-
When you have to talk about code and your not sure of the person in front of you knows more.
First business rendez vous!
Ill rant after ;) -
There are people who push code to GitHub and there are people who just fork your code on GitHub, and that's it. They don't do anything else with it.3

One coffee down and my eyes are just glazing over my code and wondering... right... what is it I gotta do now ... ? What day is it ... Where am I ...3
-
Is it just me or are there others who like programming and enjoy the work but just can't do it all day. After 10 hours I don't even want to look at a screen much less code more or read about it.6

Guys! Let’s have a contest.
I need a new name for a new journal for my new thoughts. Deep thoughts.
Person who best chooses a name that is fitting (maybe nerdy too) gets a ++ and a screenshot of my handwriting.17 -
How much I hate when I see
double x;
if (x = 1)
do_something();
Seriously, why is that so appealing to you?
As well as
int i = 0;
for (; i < n; ++i)
do_something();13 -
My parents donn't like me being into development. They just want me to do teaching job which is half of day. They don't like my full day job. But I do enjoy the work I am doing and quite passionate about it too. Its just sometime I feel so alone like my own parents do not support me at all.5
-
Does anyone do psychedelics? Do you find it hurts your programming performance, increases it, or just general thoughts on the subject?10
-
Do people just see reviews (if any kind of work) as an admin task? Just a box to tick on the way to production?
Seems like it is here. -
So, I've been trying to learn assembly. However, I can't find any assembly docs online, so I can't really do anything. I tried NASM and FASM but I just can't understand assembly. Do y'all know any decent way to learn assembly? (My dad said it's better to do it on my pi or should I do it on my desktop?)8

take it easy
even you do not like w3schools as first result when searching for some related content? *** I just searched bootstrap tooltip *** bootstrap tooltip you heard it //2 -
Do you guys listen to lo-fi when programming? I love it. If you don't what do you listen to? (I'm just curious)16

I just realized I do actually whiteboard. It's just that I do it on the computer using Visio...
Maybe everyone else on my team does too just they used an actual whiteboard...
Still doesn't quite explain some of the crap that shows up in the code though...3 -
It just took me 5 freakin hours to get the god damn upgrade done ... just to see that I've to do it again because I didn't use the latest back up ........... fml

8 months into a complex Agile project, managing multiple Scrum teams -
I still feel it would go much faster if I just do it myself.1 -
Is it just me or do software developers get the shit end of the stick in absolutely every project?4

I just work without thinking about whether I want to do it or not. The more you think about it, the more you don't want to do it. Just get to it.

Today is my last coursework submission. I've touched on a lot of topics I never thought I would be able to do/even thought about. I like data science, but I just don't feel so passionate about it now. I just want to ditch coursework and do cool shit, but I never find the time.
Anyone else get somewhat "fed up" of what they've studied? How did you get through it? Just do the "cool shit"?3 -
Is it me or do programmers just skip dinner unknowingly because you just wanna squash that one feature before you head home? But you realise that it's already 12am?4
-
How often do you get an idea which... crystallizes in a flip of a singe switch, whole, but even just properly describing it would take minutes to hours, let alone then implementing it...?
...but it would be so awesome if one was godlike enough to do it =D4 -
Just curious what people's opinion is on paying for source code?
Not going to do it but just a random question that popped into mind...8 -
How the fuck do classes work in Python? Why, exactly, do people make them for themselves? I get doing it for like making modules other people will use, but just for your own shit...?25

any dev pioneering techs here watched "black mirror". if didnt do it, it just might change your life and views about tech.3

How do you think about Laravel?
Does it made PHP more simple or just satisfied lazy developers 😀?10 -
Do you often have meetings with overseas colleagues? Do you notice cultural differences? Do you read up on what kind of business etiquette or anything similar they have there? Or do you just dive right into IT stuff?1

What do you do when people(parents) are telling you to go out and tells you you have no life..just because you spend too much time on the computer..and you are actually spending the time learning stuff techniques and technologies which would help you in the future..it just sucks..it kinda looses your morale in a way...19

New Marketing Person: [via slack] Hey! I left a comment on the JIRA ticket. I didn’t know how to tag you so I’m messaging you here to make sure you see it.
Me: [slack] Ok, thanks for letting me know. It works the same way it does in slack. Type “@“ followed by a name.
Me: [inner monologue] 🙄 You could have also just Googled it instead of expending energy and time on this slack exchange.
Same person leaves another JIRA comment later… and doesn’t tag me…Why do I even bother to be helpful…2 -
I'm discovering all I can configure with Arch... just figured to tell you, since if I don't do it doesn't count, right?...1

Customer: It doesn't do what we wanted it to do, we have this issue, this particular usecase doean't work because you didn't use the patch we sent you. Please use it!

Lately, when someone asks if I know how to do something that I totally know how to do, I just say no so I don't have to do it.3

Just asking a few questions about anyone's opinion, answer whatever you want:
Is self studying your own responsibility and if so, do you prioritize learning stuff you do at work? Do you share it with colleges?
What is your preferred way to study?8 -
contrarian dev guru types are just losers who couldn't make it in industry or business with their (lack) of skills, but are so sour and embittered they continue to shovel their own garbage on everyone else
god its just so annoying "oh i do it only this way, and its the RIGHT way, you must do it this way"
this UI feature that literally exists everywhere else? "oh no those are bad, no one uses it and its not a best practice"
get the fuck out of my way, you're just slowing me down2 -
Yeeehaw,
i finally get rid off that over-the-top dependency on Zend\Config in upwork/phystrix
The Pull-Request is on it's way:
https://github.com/upwork/phystrix/...
After 4 years of "this will take minutes to refactor" and "yeah. I totally agree. Replace Zend\Config with Array Interfaces", someone (in this case me) took finally care of this easy to solve issue :)
I hope it will be merged soon into the master branch -
What to do when you want to strangle a coworker, but he is probably just trying to do his job, the way he thinks , is the right way to do it ?3

Is it just me or do you guys also bob your head back and forth in sync with the devRant logo when it takes too long to load?

Why do people still use ftp, Its been 45 years since its inception and some application just rely on it6

Once upon a time I was thinking if I should do IT or another career. I started to wonder "Boy, I think I should learn how to program...". Then I watched Shia LaBeouf's JUST DO IT. Well, I didn't have much choice then besides doing IT, did I?
-
Just wanted to know in general what you guys do besides well duuuh developing. for me I've always hade an intrest in photography, although I haven't been that good at it XD. just wanted to know what you guys do.11
-
What do you tell non-tech-savvy ppl that you do? So far I've narrowed it down to: "I'm a programmer of sorts...". "I make websites" just doesn't cut it anymore. With others I'm safe to say I'm a full stack developer.16

Just discovered the Dart language. It seams very intereting, especially with the Flutter SDK. Someone have any experience with it? Do you recomend learning it?3

What progress have you made?
Well today we hand crafted ... a new lie about the apps we are writing. Customers should eat this one up.
Good, good.

I'm getting pretty fed up with dependency injection and having to do work in Loopback; why cant it just work!1
-
Now let me just throw away most of this pre-work documentation from the PMs and do it right the first time.
-
So this is just something I'm curious of, but when following guides/tutorials how do you challenge the information you're learning? like how do you retain the information.
I typically take notes and make something different with the information but Ive just always wondered how others go about it.15 -
Client wants me to document the updated patch in the system... In detail. I just want to upgrade their server memory but noooooo. They want me to detail it all in step-by-step, including change impact, description task, expected time duration, back-out plan.
The first time I had to do this, it was cute. But now it's FUCKING ANNOYING ON HOW DETAIL THEY WANT ME TO PUT IN!!!
Client: "OK, so you wanna upgrade the server memory. What do you need to bring into the data centre?"
Me: "Just my laptop. I'm just configuring your underutilised server memory and upgrade it."
Client: "Good. Put that in the document, including your laptop serial #, make and model."
Me: *Screaming internally* -
If I just try another way to do the same thing my broken code tries to do, either the new version makes my mistake obvious or everything just works.
Is this debugging? It's just rewriting. It seems faster than debugging. -
When it comes to working on side projects, how do you usually pace yourself? I always find it hard to do side projects. Do you just spend like an hour every afternoon? I feel I rarely do side work mostly because I'm afraid I'm going to sink like 5 hours in 1 setting. To people who do significant side work, how do you balance that with your day job?2
-
finally done with my goals for today and i tried testing it out on google chrome and it worked nice, and then i tried it to other browsers.......
i'm just going to sleep for tonight and just do it tomorrow
time check: 4:31 AM here in the Philippines2 -
The longer I go at this job, the more I feel unqualified to be doing it!
My boss is giving all these really fascinating ideas and things to get done... but he's not really describing it well on how to do it... just to do it. My creativity is being tested...2 -
Saw this quote and I felt like maybe it is not just me that needs to see this today :)
“Don't let perfection become procrastination. Do it now.” - Danielle LaPorte1 -
Is it just me, or do other developers also leave a backdoor in the code in case the client doesn't pay?8

<long post>
To start of I'm a student in the Netherlands, I have just finished finished a support management study and I'm currently starting with a IT Management study on MBO 4 lvl.
At the moment I'm in conflict scout doing the IT Management study or doing a application development study as I just don't know what to do. I kind of want do development as I do it in my free time and I like it but I also want to do data center engineering as I also like to work with the hardware.
Should I take a month break of my study and try to get in contact with company's to work there to finalize my decision or should I just drop in the towel and do this study without knowing if I'm going to like it in the end.
And if you work at a company in the Netherlands do you think i can do some orientation internship at your company or do you guys know some places to look at.
</Long post>6 -
Do you think that Graphql is the future?
Should i invest time in it? Or it's just a hype like anything else?9 -
Why do some people need to stick their finger in my screen to show something? Just point it and I'll understand alright4
-
Focus: Get up and walk around, disturb someone(calculated disturbing), break a window,
Procrastinating: DO IT NOW, JUST DO IT, MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE
....sorry
Yes my 2 cents -
stupid teacher sucked. i passed the class but i felt like i didnt learn anything from him.. how do you guys learn a new lenguage? when making a program do you write it all in paper or just code away and figure it out?6

Newbies advice:
Never reject a task you don't know how to do just because you feel you wont be able to do it.2 -
Teamleader : just add TypeScript.
Me: Uhm okay?, someone has expirience with that?
Teamleader: No, just do it .
After 15h of trying adding TypeScript to the React / Redux App I ve to tell him that i couldnt do it.
So now I think that i am stupido as fucko..4 -
What do you do when you give someone a feature ticket and they come back and the code just isn't what you expected?
Like to you how they did it, assuming they actually finished, is very hacky and not well designed/thought out?
And ur going to need to cleanup a lot of their code? And explaining to them how to do it is just not worth the time and will take longer then just doing it urself?
They just don't seem very bright or able to "get it".
I guess how do you go from a developer to a manager? And deal with devs they don't seem to be writing code they're up to your standards/expectations?9 -
This comment is why iis is an abomination for allowing multiple languages
/*Didn't know how to do this in php so wrote in asp just call it do do the task*/ -
A friend just asked his colleagues why IntelliJ can't do reverse debugging and was told that it's impossible. It's not impossible, gdb does it, pdb does it. Probably other debuggers do it too.
Why do many devs believe that if they haven't heard of something, it doesn't exist?1 -
so guys, I am going to ask you about something I am totally new on it.
what do you think about crypto currency mining? cam I do it using just my PC, if I can what is the estimate benefits?
do you advice me to proceed with this thing.12 -
Any ReactJS developer here? Just wanted to ask, how do you handle SEO with ReactJS SPA? Do you follow any tutorial to convert it to SSR? Or do you just use NextJS instead?
Thanks3 -
How many of you play music?
If you do, what instrument do you play, and does it help you clear your mind/calm down from programming stress?
Just curious.12 -
I kinda miss the do while loop. It seems it fell out of style, compared to a for each or a while. I always feel a bit guilty when IntelliJ tries to autocomplete the do while loop and you just want a variable that starts with do.2
-
Had to add some functionality to another guys GUI code.
He gave me a "template" file (copy of another module), pointed at several places and said: "Make your changes here, here, and here. Do not ask why, do not even think about it. Just do it." -
is it just me or do other guys too just randomnly type whatever keys on the keyboard and Ctrl+backspace it to type something of meaning.
kinda like just stretching my fingers for keyboard.3 -
I usually don't do these types of posts, but it's a nice number, and i feel lucky to have caught it. Usually I just miss it by a few and then my next rant gets too many ++ and I just miss it.2

it’s not a lack of motivation, an inexplicable unwillingness to act, that obstructs your path to success and happiness. It’s the invisible boundaries in your head that you’re tripping over — sometimes without ever moving at all.1
-
I feel like most of the problems people are ranting about would never happen if they worked in a proper environment with lint checks, unit tests, e2e tests etc.
It's worth the effort to get it!4 -
Anyone else get really bogged down in a project and just lose any direction? :-/
I know what I want to do and a rough idea to do it but, I just don't know where to go from this point, any tips on how to get out of it? -
Alright guy. I do IT support but I kinda just got soft offer to become a Jr developer. Which would you guys do. Stick with IT support or Jr dev19
-
FFS! if you are interested working on a story/task, just assign the ticket to yourself and just do it!
-
What do you name a library that just expands upon an existing library?
As in, it has the same functionality, but just goes about it in a different way to make it nicer to work with
Don't want to just prefix it with "better-" or something since a) that's probably subjective and b) it's a bit on the arrogant side9 -
Main( ) is like a boss. it does not care what you do. it's just going to tell you to do it and wait for you to return with your results.

Is it me or do other new users find it frustrating having to get 10± just to change your profile pic6
-
I don’t want to have anything to do with your shitty templating language. I hate Jinja2. Just keep it away from me.
-
This is stupid but does anybody else program on the bus/train? I sometimes wanna code so bad because either I'm too committed to the project or I just thought of a solution.
I just feel that people would think I'm showing off but in reality, I am just dedicated to programming.5 -
So, I've just been offered two jobs that are basically the same. It is impossible to do both. What do I do?15
-
Scrolling through the possible jobs I could bid on as a consultant. Where's the fucking "Just don't do it" button?
-
got employed as web developer, had to make an app for test, so i made simple PWA, you can search videos and you have related videos on the side, basically search videos and watch them with simple list of related videos on the side.
idk how i ended up being tester and bug hunter in this huge ass pile of spaghetti extravaganza.
all i do is wasting my talent on hunting and resolving bugs on a legacy-code apps, don't remember when was last time i actually wrote some feature, oh yeah i do, last month but that was refactoring/fixing.
so i am stuck on weird tech stack someone build with shovel, feels like they were having that famous golden hammer.
what interests me is something i will never do at this company and still i am trying to help them to fix the app to have better product.
It is hard when you feel like you are third and last person in whole company that cares about actual product, rest of devs just fixing things with quick workarounds, hacks and lousy patches.
I really tried, I did, I was excited as I saw opportunity to one up the product but got stuck with the rest of the devs fixing bugs instead of fixing the whole codebase, I tried to introduced improvements but we don't have time cause fixing bugs means happy customers, better codebase takes more time and means impatient customers are unhappy!
I think it is time to sail away.
So folks, any thoughts or feelings?1 -
"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while." - Steve Jobs2

I created this game in just 4 hours. Do try it and please comment down if you like it

So you guys, at what time exactly do you all sleep? Just wondering because i know what it takes to choose IT as profession. 😁
Always AM4 -
copycat: how many of you ended up as IT professional because you trust the big swoosh and this guy said everywhere "JUST DO IT"
-
Just curious, but how long do you guys spend programming a day. This isn't counting working time although you can include working time just declare it first!7
-
I ordered a USB Rubber Ducky!! I'm not going to do anything malicious with it, I just want to experiment with it and see what it can do for me!
-
Do u think game design is really a field one can study?
No offence, it just seems to me like a pseudo science.
I know there are some kinds of study programmes and stuff.
I just think it is way better for people to be experienced in coding, do graphics as a hobby and study psychology (or something related) instead.18 -
How do you guys actually estimate any given task..?? What do you consider..?? Or do you just guess it as per experience..??7
-
Just got off a chat with Google Home support, asking about the features... AFAIK it doesn't do anything too useful that I can't just do on my Android phone....1
-
The "It doesn't work" response when you are helping a friend do some stuff on a computer just kills me.1
-
So I just got a Watchguard Firebox x500 for free. What should I do with it? And how do I set it up? (For a home network).3
-
emails....
how is it that every service can send out so many emails?
30,000 emails just this week, and those are just the ones i dont automatically delete.
how do people deal with it?2 -
- Focus on one thing at a time. When you are staring it's easy to be overwhelmed.
- Be with the people/group who are doing something because they want to do it, not just because they were told to do it. -
Honestly, am I the same guy who wrote this code 4 years ago? How comes I never commented it! Shit man. What do you do with code that works just fine but you don't know how it works..???2
-
Just started using Arc browser this week. I looooove it. I’m not a web dev though, so what do web devs think of it?3
-
Is it just me or do people sometimes do major refactoring not because it needs to, but purely because they are inheriting old code and can't be bothered to understand it5
-
!rant
I'm better at getting work done when I have work to do.
Put your phone on airplane mode, turn off internet on your computer (unless you really need it) and write down what you need to do and when it's due. Just do it.1 -
Do anyone here uses Bootstrap Studio? Is it worth purchasing? Or just stick with traditional text editor?9
-
funny thing. My apple account is not logged in cuz of payment method. But it just worked. You just have to try it again and again like 17th times, so that's how you do it.
-
I just bought 4gb ram for my laptop and I'm wondering after I physically install it into my laptop will windows 10 automatically detect it or do I have to do something?...this is my first time doing this so I'm kinda stupid when it comes to this5

"Says who? Just so you know, the people who talk that way think that monkeys can do this. They take all this monkey crap and just stick it in a briefcase completely unaware that their success depends on something more than their shoeshine. YOU are the product. You- FEELING something. That’s what sells. Not them. Not sex. They can’t do what we do, and they hate us for it. " - Don Draper1

Hello, I'm kinda stuck in this problem: Lets say, I want to give each of my users a dedicated IP address. How do I do it? & what's the best way to do it with python?
No need to share code, just some instructions/guideline would perfect. Thanks in advance.19 -
So I'm a fresher and recently joined a startup as a software dev trainee. The talk has been ON this whole week of me getting ragged. D-day came today. Pizzas were ordered. And they pleaded to atleast make them feel like I'm being ragged. 😂2

Sometimes I just feel like voice chatting/chatting with some random folks but I can't ever find a forum to do it3

>coreutils install

do you want to install a file, creating the directory? sure. do you want to copy directory structure? sorry, can't do.
i'll just use rsync, fuck it -
Just finished 15% (around 9hrs) of my JavaScript course! Hopefully I can finish it before Udemy eventually goes around and messes my account up, just like they always do for everyone else...
-
why is the solution to everything having to do with react-navigation, "Just wrap it in another navigator."
-
Has this happened to you all too or just me?
So I was interested in a coding course and it was really long like 8 weeks, but still I started and now in the mid I just got bored of it and want to do something else.
Do comment and tell me if it has happened to you too...1 -
I just thought of a potential webapp ideas while talking a shower. Still need to give it some thought but wondering how best to built it out? Sorta like a message board/kiva/change.org
I'm thinking #1 is backend + REST api. Then just create a webapp using React Native so it can be used mobile and browser?
Probably will build the first prototype though using either C# just to test the APIs...
But I guess how do you break a project up. Do you build backend first or do it feature by feature (both backend and frontend)?
And well what about hosting? Do need to decide now like AWS/Heroku... Or can I just build on local? Need a db though...1 -
What do you think about coffee? is it just a psychology need? or it really boosts you to code? question for those who drink coffee9

Is unit test helpful in React web app? Why do I think it is just wasting of time? How often do you use unit test in your web app development?12
