When someone beats the level of stupidity you thought was possible.
No, when you request a Let's Encrypt certificate, you DON'T fill in YOUR OWN NAME in the "Common Name" field 🤦
Also, it explains right next to the fucking field that non-experienced users SHOULDN'T ALTER THE FUCKING VALUE.

This is what happens when you use an 8-bit unsigned int for a temperature field, and it's -2°F outside15

Why the Fuck would someone disable pasting on a password field!!!! How the fuck am I supposed to enter my shit from my password manager now?16

First ever job interview (in my field) went well and I got the job two days later! (my current one).
I'm getting scared from the other stories though 😅3 -
Me: So what if this field has no info?
NonDev Manager: There should always be data in that field.
Me: *Shows the field has default set as null*
NonDev Manager: *thinks thinks thinks*, but they are always added...how...if...
Me: I'll default to X behavior.
NonDev Manager: ...Yeah...do that.
I know what should happen but it's so fun to see non-dev's scratch their heads with business logic edge cases that seem nonsensical to them. Yeah I'm a bit of a dick.3 -
Disabling pasting into a password field in 2020 with password managers, is retarded. That's it that's the rant. Doesn't matter if you think password managers are good or not. Its still retarded that there's a 40 something year old dumbfuck manager who told a web designer at EA to disable pasting into a fucking password field because he was dumb enough to think it stopped hackers or some shit like that.14

Joy of being a programmer: Get good enough in a language/framework, you can make whatever the hell you want :)
There is probably no other field that allows this.15 -

Perhaps if companies were driven not by greed, but by quality and improving the respective field they are in, perhaps the world would be a better place... But what do I know...7

The "Change Password" function autofilled the old password. Dev told be it didn't matter because "if you set the field type to password you can't see it".4

Such amusement.
Was almost about to throw my keyboard at my monitor, as I could not find the reason behind why the GraphQL server wasn't returning the clientType field in the response.
Only to find out that I never asked for that field in the request 😑5 -
Client's API returns a very weird response that changes its structure depending on its content.
When a array field has more than 1 children it returns:
{
"field" : [
{ "name1" : "value1"},
{ "name2" : "value2"}
]
}
So far so good. However, the fuckery happens when it has 1 children:
{
"field" : { "name1" : "value1"}
}
WTF! So the client API can return either a JSON object or an array and we cant trust the specs they gave us.4 -
Manager: What's your time estimate on that latest ticket?
Dev: It's literally written in the "time estimate" field on the ticket, even in standard human units like "hours", "minutes", and "seconds"

Sent a request to our sharepoint admin to create a field in a list that contained a list of application names.
He asked for a field name, so I told him "AppNames", "ApplicationNames", "LoggedApplicationNames". Didn't particularly care, any of of those would be fine.
Few minutes he replies (this is his exact response):
"The field has been created as 'Logged App Name', as there wasn’t a proposed better name"

I updated a date field on a table with about 4 million records in it.
Only meant to update about 1000 of them.
This field is used to generate QBRs. So the executive level would notice first.
But then.... They didn't. Nobody noticed. Not for almost a year.
Then someone asked about it and I told them what happened, and they never brought it up again. -

Curious, does anyone else that’s been in the tech/IT field for more than 5 years feel like we’re just solving the same problem over and over again, albeit with different tools as the years go by? Or am I just too grumpy to stay in this field after trudging it out for 20+ years?2

Please use normalization. Don't store more than is intended in one field and use special characters to separate things. It would make future developers job easy.7

CTO: We'll use epochs for any time related fields in our services.
After service integration...
Dev from producer team: Hey the time field is showing up as 1970 and not null in your table. That seems to be a bug.
Me: Code looks fine. We are converting epochs to timestamps here. Null is taken care by the library function itself.
The same dev: Actually we are sending zero instead of null values in that time field. But we'd want the end table to treat that as null.
Me: Why can't you send null then?
The dev: Actually avro doesn't support nulls. Hence the zero.
Me: WTF??????
Manager to me: Actually you need to convert them as null. Anyways, this is not a blocker and we can live with it for now.
END OF RANT
Why can't they fucking send it as null? And when I asked about the details, that particular event type doesn't require that field. Still the manager insists on sending that field for it.23 -

Something I've noticed over my many jobs. "Professional" means entirely different things at different jobs, and doesn't follow fields either. That is, "Professional" in one field is understandably different from another, but businesses inside the same field also have different definitions of it.
It's almost as if "Professional" is just a euphemism for saying "we expect you to act a certain way, but are being passive aggressive about it so we can't be called out for it".3 -

Asked me to choose 3 "Field of interest" for him 😑. I Suggested him options, not of much importance ( IOT and IT were on the list too ). When he asked me what are these, I replied him to search on Google.
His brain thought of asking me first them to google about.

Why do some developers cut corners and add 20 extra fields just in case the customer wants to add extra data? What happens when the customer needs 21 fields. Just spend slightly more time and implement a custom field system that can extend to any amount of data it's not that difficult and you won't have to add a new field every time a customer needs more then you expected.3

Today I spent like 30 mins trying to pass one of FreeCodeCamps test.

So here I am investigating something our users are claiming. I look up which user the UserId did the change and I see not only the user but also the users password in clear text in a separate field. I thought that field was for a password hint that the user can set up, but I asked around and apparently, no... It's literally the plain text version of the password stored in the database, next to the hash of the password.
Apparently, the users were so impossible to deal with that we added that column and for users that constantly pester us about not knowing their password and not wanting to change it, we added a plaintext password field for them :D2 -
When I'm reviewing code that I'm soon to be working on, I like to add comments to document things that aren't self-documenting.
When I encounter something I have no fucking idea about, I usually add:
// NFI
It's my "safe for work" way to indicate that I literally have no fucking idea what they were attempting.
So I'm curious, does anyone have their own comment "codes" that are safe for commits, but translate into something more awesome?4 -
Continuously question everything you're doing.

Can we stop that trend of only showing the username field and then show the password field after filling the username clicking next? It messes with my Keepass browser addon.
Apart from that, it messes with human workflow as well. Enter Username -> TAB -> Enter Password -> ENTER. With that stupid UI you have to either focus the next button with Tab and hope hitting Enter does not already submit the login form or switch to mouse and click the Next button.10 -
We had a group presentations today, and one group had a simple home screen for a reservation system. It consisted of a date picker and some labeled buttons.
My teacher said, "I don't like how the date search field isn't labeled, I don't know that, that field is for a date".
It's a date picker, that date icon is a universal sign for pick a date, the group said.
He was our programming teacher in our first year 🙈7 -

Stakeholder: We have users who are putting like “John and Mary” on their membership’s first name field. Can we restrict that field so they can’t do that?
Me: But what if that user does identify as “John and Mary”?
Besides, what’s to stop any user from taking out the “and” and making it “John Mary” so they can get around input validation for words like “and”?9 -
Interesting password recommendation here...
Translation:
- A form with to fields: Surname and password.
- Below the form is a text: "For signup please enter your name and a password (e.g. your email address). With your name and password you can change your data anytime and may get access to the memberlist."
Bonus: There is a "help"-button (outside of the cutting) which even *recommends* the use of the email-address as the password!
Extra bonus: The password field is a normal text one.
IF THE EMAIL ADDRESS HAS TO BE SUBMITTED, WHY NOT JUST ADD ANOTHER FIELD OR AT LEAST LABEL THE FIELD CORRECTLY!
Update: After this form, you get to another form, to enter you email address...3 -
What retarded way of writing a json feed is this? what the fuck!
Each product in the feed is translatable, but instead of creating a new object in the feed with the translated content, there's an additional field pointing to a language code (this applies to all translateable fields).
Then each translatable field is appended the number which matches the number appended to the language field containing the desired language code.
In addition to that, the keys doesn't have any sensible meaning, but appearently they abide by som obscure "GS1 / GDSN" standard.
So for each "distinct" field I have to look up the definition of that key
If just the language code and the actual value keys was grouped together.. but no, the feed is ordered by the number after the 'D'.
Yeah for being stuck with something that looks like infinite scrolling, because one product object is fucking gigantic.
FUCKING INSANE MANIAC PIECE OF TRASH.

Hey guys, I've always loved and adored what programmers and developers do, so I really do need your advice on this...
After around nine years in the journalism field, I'm considering a career shift into development, for many reasons including that the journalism field seems to be going down in my country, so I started where most recommendations would tell a beginner to start, learning HTML... Now, is it a good idea for starters to change my career into this magnificent and enormous field? I know it won't be easy, but is it possible to be something in that career?6 -

The "Progress 4GL", now "OpenEdge" doesn't only allow you to abbreviate reserved words, it goes even further.
It allows you to abbreviate database field names.
Yup. Make a spelling mistake and you are messing with a different field.
Forget to declare a variable and there's a field in scope beginning with the same letters? It'll cheerfully assume you mean that field.
This is truly the WORST, most bone-headedly STUPID decision ever taken in the entire history of programming languages.
I defy anyone to offer anything worse than this. -

iAPPLIED CS UNIVERSITY, DAY 1 (2018-09-24)
11:00 UTC+3: Arrived at the secretary's office to complete my registration. I met quite some people; I forgot the names of some. I spent some time over there, so I took the 13:00 class instead of the 11:00 one. It's still early, so we pick whichever we want.
13:00: Procedural Programming at the Computer's lab. The computers were running Windows 8.1! 😱 I might connect to my laptop via RDP. It would be very cool. The course was about C, but the first time was just an introduction. We are going to use Code::Blocks. We were also explained the (HTTP only) web platform in which we are logged in via our passwords and submit our assignments. The professor was very nice, but this day at least was very boring. I was watching CodeMinkey cartoons, trying to solve AdLitterams.
18:00: Back for Applied Mathematics I. At the same computer lab. No lesson did happen, because we have to s learn theory stuff first (every Friday I think). Back to home.
Tommorrow is going to be a hard day...:wq1 -

I hate back-end..9 -

Well shit! ... "We don't really validate we just give you a 404 if the field is formatted incorrectly, that is part of the V3" how the fuck do I know that.
Days spent trouble shooting these cannot find errors, for a damn incorrectly formatted date field. Fuck sakes!2 -

Main reason is not being maleable, rejecting new stuff as the field changes constantly. The rest can more or less be tolerated (what can be tolerated for any other job, that is).3

People who use destructuring assignment EVERYWHERE; why you do this to me?
In most cases it does not even reduce code length. Like
{ field } = object
save(field)
Why no just type
save(object.field)
Tis' hard to understand4 -
Unlike biology, our field is dynamic! Things keep changing often.

!Rant
So coming to the two year anniversary of my first internship as a dev, I want to say how lucky I am to work in this field. I've gone from being a strictly front-end developer to being a full-stack software developer and one of the things that's allowed me to progress so quickly is the fact that in this field, we are able to contribute from the jump and get our work out there. I have friends in other fields who, in their entry level positions, don't get the chance to apply what they've learned in school and in their own individual studies. I'm lucky to work in an exciting field and that motivates me to get keep getting better. -

After finding SQLi on an internal application during its security review:
DB team: Well it's a remote database, so you're just seeing HTML...wait why do you see user accounts in that web field? -
Apparently you cannot filter based on two parameters in firebase so something similar to "select * from table where email='something' and password ='something' " doesn't work .
So a shitty hack is to create a string to concatenate email and password and store it as a field and validate based on that field.
So basically there is a field in database which is
Sha256("emailid"+_+sha256("password"))2 -
I surround myself with people smarter than me and if I feel I stopped progressing, I change my job/project/field.1

Elasticsearch! So I'm testing a co-workers code and doing regression scenarios when suddenly it "loses" data in two fields after I save the data and go out/come back into the form. That's weird says I, lets have a look....
And I find the following conditional::
if (field empty) then failValidation("hey stoopid user")
else blank field value
Say what???
Happy Friyay everyone.... -
When refactoring and reusing code, is it even ethical to change author?
I am on a project of creating reusable library from another project. Original code is perfectly written, easy to understand. I will just prune the code and fix minor bugs.
I have seen colleagues replacing the original author field in the same scenario with their names, feels wrong. Can I add non-standard maintainer field in doxygen format?14 -

Three days out from a field trial, I receive a bug report and change request. A month ago I was told that testing had been completed and the feature set signed off.
Not only have all our manufacturers received their hardware images, not only have they fulfilled our orders but all units have been delivered to our customers!!
After pointing all of this out I hear that wonderful phrase all Devs know and love, "well how hard can it be?"
"Well how hard can it be to flash all of the hardware?"
That has been delivered to all of our customers?
In every state?
All over the whole country?
Just No!2 -

I should read more often. -
Hello all,
I might be moving to England soon and I'm a drop-out. I have been coding for 5+ years and have quite an amount of experience in my hands. What courses should I consider that can boost my ability to find a job in England? Devops? Backend? Frontend? App Dev? Game Dev? I am interested and have a minor experience in DevOps, main bulk of my experience is in backend, a bit of frontend(not my field but its still coding) the other two i've had no experience in other then debugging and fixing code in several projects i've worked on.
Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.9 -

Caution: boring question
Have anyone worked on anything like a form builder like by giving a name generating a table with default columns and new folder for controller , models inheriting a base class that can provide a CRUD functionality ?
In my company they have a cool module builder that allow you to add any field email ,file, password,connector field - connect two modules one 2 one relationship clonable field many to many built on php.
I tried and created one using python Flask framework but without restarting app the routes are not getting registering asked in stack overflow got downvoted
Any thoughts?3 -

I wonder when we'll stop the abuse of naming conventions like name & surname, by this I mean not all cultures have a surname but most of us are ignorant about it and those people when they are presented with an obligation to fulfill that field they cannot do it legally, because they'll lie.
A more open approach with only one field for full text identity would solve this issue.1 -
As from ece branch i m highly interested in coding . is there any field which includes both of these skills1
