First date tip: Don't tell her that you prefer back-end over front-end. Programming is apparently "the most perverted thing in the world"...9
-
My first try at 3D printing. Currently selling it on Shapeways, good thing they were celebrating and didn't have to pay for transportation. What do you think of my joke? :D17
-
Whenever i see "Create an app without coding" advertisement on facebook, first thing that come in mind is "Fuck a girl without a dick"4
-
Lady calls me asking for help with her website.
First thing she does is trash all FIVE of her previous developers for "never completing the project."
No, thank you. Take your crazy somewhere else. Buhbye.4 -
FOR FUCK SAKE...
The same fucking guy that said Java and JavaScript is the same thing tried inserting RAM into the PCIe slot twice! It doesn't even look like it will fit at first sight.8 -
Aint a rant though
But I woke up today and the first thing I saw was my first Android app reaching 5 digits (10017) downloads figure with 4.73 stars. :D
Couldnt be happier.11 -
"Oh my God thank you! How'd you fix it?"
I did literally the first thing you always do: unplug that shit and plug it back in.1 -
First day on the phone as a support guy!
Before the first call came in I thought like 'please no email related issues as that's the one thing I suck at!'
Fair enough, first call:
Me: hello, how can I help you?
Customer: well, we've got this email problem...
Me thinking: MOTHERFUCKING FUCKING FUCK WHY ME 😭
Me: what seems to be the problem?
Damn, really?!9 -
When you open devRant and the first thing you see is "Fuck you, Windows." and you can't help but giggle 😂12
-
I've had 3 interviews with the same company. The first two interviews went pretty well, they looked interested, on the third they tell me "your CV says you are not graduated yet, we can't hire you now".
SO WHY THE FUCK DID YOU HAD TO WASTE MY TIME?
You've had my CV before the first interview, why the hell didn't you read that I am still a student? Is the first thing it's written on it! Stupid fuckers.5 -
I am not an addict...
I am not an addict...
I am not an addict...
Oh shit, even my phone suggests using devRant first thing 😱3 -
>give person jailed access to my server.
>person breaks out, and notifies me.
>i fix the hole
>three weeks later i decide hes trustworthy enough and the jail is causing too many problems so i give him unjailed access
>first thing he does is crash the system
albeit unintentionally, but seriously?1 -
Since there's no such thing as Black Friday in my country, when I first heard about it, I thought it's a gathering for wizards and black magicians to perform some rituals.10
-
PM: Please do this immediately.
Me: But the other deadline, I...
PM: I don't care, do this first!
Me: Alright, fine.
(at the end of the day)
PM: Why is the thing you were doing not finished yet!?4 -
You know you are a dev when the first thing you do when you see something cool on a website is checking out the sourcecode to find out how they did it2
-
The first fortune I've read in years... seems appropriate.
"If you don't program yourself, life will program you."
Good thing i do program, myself!2 -
First thing to do after installing a new text editor:
Install shitloads of extensions until you can't open the editor anymore.10 -
After years of struggle with nvidia on Linux across several devices I built my first AMD only PC and I have only one thing in my mind...5
-
I got a call at 12:30 one night a few months back. Apparently some back-end scripts I edited to fix an automated test setup crashed around 75 test pc's and halted somewhere around 2000 tests. I quickly jumped on, fixed the issue, and got everything back online.
I was up all night certain I would get fired. First thing in the morning the client says welcome to the club some, of the best have done the same thing.2 -
when you talk to your friend for 4 years now and msg her after like months and the first thing she asks is this.
dunno if I should be happy or sad -.-7 -
The first time I see a train info thing running on linux. Usually they run on windows Xp. Feat. my green shirt.5
-
When ever someone asks me to fix their PC I ask them to sit down next to me so I can show them how I did it. First thing I do is open up Google search the problem then look them dead in the eye and smile 😂😂😂. I Then proceed to implement the fix from the first page of results. I don't get many repeat requests... I'm Such a passive cunt.😂😂😂5
-
Strating on a quite big project today because for one, it seems awesome to build it, two, i really need it and three: I don't think i have the skillset to pull this off so it's an awesome challenge/learning thing!
This will be the first time where I'll actually have to make a technical design first because otherwise it'll become a mess.
I'm both super excited and nervous 😁😅8 -
"ThE FIrsT ThiNg a Pr0GraMmer saYs whEn hE iZ b0Rn iZ HELlo w0Rld"
Damn, that is
So
Fucking
Funny
I wonder. Do the people that find this shit amusing are just discovering what programming is? Shit is so fucking cringey man.20 -
First thing every developer should do when buying a new computer is to download chrome using the built in downloader
1. Just click on start menu
2. Search for "chrome downloader"
3. Click on the downloader icon
4. From here it should be easy :)12 -
Yes yes another arch Linux thing but holy shit, in just 2 days I've learnt so much!
First time adding a grub entry and it works straight out of the box :-D6 -
Opening up a view file, and first thing I see is a function accepting 13 parameters.
I don't know where to start, so much wrong..
Kill me.5 -
Just switched to an iPhone after being on Android since Gingerbread. First thing I've done is lock down iCloud almost entirely and use Google's apps. Things are swell.9
-
Finally, I'm full of joy. I just came home after long Recruitment drive and first thing I saw on table is this.
I was totally screaming "YES!!! YES!!!! THEY'RE FINALLY HERE" (sorry for caps). Thank you very much @dfox and @trogus and no doubt devRant is the best app I ever had.13 -
Nice, I just removed my dpkg folder instead of dpkg/lock. Today is the first and only day for this week I can sit at my desk to work and this is first thing I did. And then I whine that I'm stressed and couldn't finish my tasks.
If I were not me, I would slap that-guy.6 -
Boss showed me a website and the first thing came into my mind was:
Someone actually got paid for this rubbish
😠2 -
First thing to do after downloading swift for linux is to obviously place the folder inside another folder named Taylor2
-
I wonder if I'm getting tired of making websites for people. I just "fired" two longtime clients today without really caring all that much. Not for no reason. They just were asking too much for too little. And I was getting bored of them. When I think about what I want to do in my spare time, the first thing I think about is creative writing. The last thing I think about is code and website design. It didn't used to be this way.3
-
So I came back to my hometown for Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year), the first thing I was asked by my parents was "Can you fix the landline?" 🙃🙃🙃3
-
The other day I was looking for my wallet and the first thing that crossed my mind was "Ctrl + F" please tell me I'm not crazy5
-
For Fuck's sake never name your variables $a $b or $c. What the fuck I thought that's like the first thing they teach in whichever bush you learnt how to code at!!!!!!8
-
Missing the first entry date for university was probably the best thing that happened to me.
Got to work full time and show off my expertise in "reallife scenarios" for nearly a year.
Best experience i could've made until now. -
Just bought my first physical server for a cheap price second hand. It's a low end thing but hey, you've got to start somewhere, right!4
-
When I was about 12, I was stuck on a certain level in a PC game. I wrote my first patch in C++ to give me God mode. First time I realized programming was the most powerful thing one can do in the universe...1
-
Bought a micro:bit for me and my son. It's awesome! He's also learning super fast. He's 7 y/o and already creating something on it. First thing i've learned him: Array starts at 0 😎
-
Sorry for breaking the protocol, but I'm not here to rant. I want to thanks all the ranters (is that a thing now?) for recommending Mr. Robot (the TV series). Just watched the first episode and I can see myself watching it all day. Be back tomorrow.6
-
When I first got in this companie, with 3 other people, one of the first thing they told us was about a "rule" that we never deploy on Friday's or at the end of the day, but no one else in the company knows about it. It's the department's little secret 👌10
-
I was getting a segmentation fault and was very confused and had no idea why and the first thing I changed fixed it totally so that was great5
-
I began my first Linux / i3 install 7 days ago when I posted my first rant... And today I'm declaring it officially *done*! (Mostly because if I don't, I'll spend another week configuring the damn thing.)
Here it is. Few minor things to edit/fix (like the fact that it sometimes randomly logs me out after coming back from hibernation... Yeah, "minor") but the functionality is mostly there. I can ("should") get back to work!16 -
First day programming: "The hell is this?"
234th day programming: You start to think how every single thing works and how to make it -
When I hear people talk about love and the first thing that comes to mind is the Lua framework for 2D game development4
-
Top reason not to be a dev:
If you can't stand it when the computer does EXACTLY what you told it to, and don't have the patience, curiosity, and interest learning how to make it do the thing you wanted in the first place. 🙂1 -
I tried github copilot. Spent the first hour trying to work out how to turn off the inline copilot popup star thing. Asked copilot. It gave me the wrong answer. So, a coding AI doesn't even understand its own documentation.
Our jobs are safe.11 -
my boss asked me to join a xamarin project, there are 45 bugs on current sprint. the first thing i saw is this code, no wonder there are so many bugs 😭5
-
Lately ive noticed that 90% of rants is "heres this thing that would come up in the first 3 lines of any documentation but instead of that, im gonna rant about it"
The other 10% is meta rants like this and the last 5% is from people who are bad at maths.8 -
Power supply explosive party.
First time I saw two capacitors explode, hit the fan, melt the fan, get stuck there from the generated heat and blow every thing5 -
I uh.. I may or may not have just spent the last hour or so disassembling my headphones, only to find that there's batteries inside and the earcups just clip off.
Always do the easiest thing first...8 -
If body { background: red; } isn’t the first thing you do to test a CSS file is included, then I don’t know what kind of developer you are.3
-
Technically, the first thing I programmed was a Big Trak when I was about 6 years old. It could only hold 16 instructions, though:
https://youtu.be/SgEkpcPC2I84 -
I was struggling with a task on a project and decided to call the colleague, who's working on this project as well (he built it, I am just on-boarding) to get some advice.
Literally the first thing he asked me was: "have you seen whom this task is assigned to?"
Fuck! So I spent about 1.5 hours on not finishing a task that I shouldn't have worked on in the first place. Great.5 -
That thing, when you're in the first two days at a new contract, when you don't have access to anything and everyone keeps asking "what are you working on"?
😭🔫7 -
Decided to delete devRant and reddit for a few months. Now I'm back, and the first thing that greets me on both is Light Mode 🤢
Thank God that I haven't cancelled my devRant subscription. Once you go black you never go back! 😏3 -
Just got a new monitor (HKC NB34C) and connected it to my PC (which didn't have a monitor at the time)
The first thing I see is a green screen of death because of a power outage during a Windows insiders update.11 -
After I caught COVID-19 my eyesight got really bad. Well, I just got back from the doctor and I need to wear glasses. What's the first thing I did?
[ ] Buy the glasses
[ X ] Put glasses on my devRant avatar8 -
That wonderful first thing in the morning meeting where your PM who has zero coding experience wants to try to critique your already working code... 🙄"I think you forgot a semicolon here..."5
-
"I'm done with all this BS. Visual appearance doesn't matter, will uninstall all themes first thing in the morning"
* stays up until 4 AM googling "geometric theme for zsh"*14 -
I started interning at a non IT Company, first thing I did was fix the printer 😂
I guess this is our destiny2 -
@lunch conversation today..
Q: "if you were to write this world in a virtual environment, what would be the first thing you would define? "
A:" define Vegas as a closure with no return declared.
Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. " -
First thing on Monday. The very first thing.
I fucking killed prod.
Reminder to my future self to either stash local config files and .htaccess files... or add them to gitignore... But either way, don't leave them lying around assuming I won't do something dumb and accidentally commit them. Because some fateful Monday morning before I've had my coffee I'm going to do something dumb.8 -
What is up with people asking for help and then immediately getting pissy like the first fuckin thing you say?
Shut the fuck up and let me help you, damn.9 -
have to reintroduce myself to java now that i will be using it again.. first thing i see.. "Java is popular"... well so is Hitler.. whats your point?...6
-
Company calling for support. Printer in machine room makes unusual noises. There are 5 loud 90 dB machine roads forming metal. And the first thing they hear through the hearing protection is....... a printer making silent squeaky noises...
-
Ditched MacOS in favour for Fedora.
First thing that I notice is the increased framerate and more OpenGL extensions in OpenGL extensions viewer.
Never imagined a day that the video drivers in Linux surpasses these of MacOS.3 -
Today I thought I had a really unique idea so I started writing the script for it.
In the middle of writing it I decided I would take a break and look at social media.
First thing I see is an ad for what I was just writing...
FML4 -
First thing i do in morning is..
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Life with ubuntu is easy!4 -
Welcome to PLC development! Your first thing to do is find out whta these dozen global variables do that are used by several tasks in odd places.11
-
!rant
TFW your graphics ASM code works on the first try.
Yes, it just happened to me, and it's a relatively annoying rectangle drawing routine.
Writing complicated ASM code and making it work on the first try is definitely a new thing to me, I feel so powerful! >:D4 -
Tried out flutter a few days ago, gotta say, this is the direction i wanted to see mobile development go, its strongly typed, compiled and crossplatform. Probably the first thing from google i actually like.
Also i finally could change my name yay7 -
I just finished upgrading a dotnet core 2.2 WebApi + Console App to dotnet core 3.1 and it was a very smooth process with very minor changes to my code.
Not a rant, just posting because it is the first nice thing that has happened for me in a while now.4 -
Security!
Offensive and defensive at both code and infrastructure levels.
So many times I see devs not give a flying pancake about security. Whether it be rolling integers for sql injection or permission guarding to prevent someone executing something they shouldn't.
Why is security in this industry always the last thing to be concerned about when it's the first thing that's going to kill your business.
😓7 -
One thing I appreciate about my team - if someone makes a mistake, the first reaction after fixing it is: How do we prevent it from happening again?2
-
A few months ago, we asked an external company to create a simple project since we lack the developers now...
I've just looked into it and the first thing we found was Evil Rick (from Rick & Morty)6 -
Today is the day I contributed to the open source software for the first time.
It may not be a big thing for someone but for me it is.6 -
This website sucks. I sign up and first thing I see is a clusterfuck UI. I can't tell what's going on.
Then the morons who made the UI decided that the "new post" button was going to be on the bottom middle position.33 -
Back in Tinyland from Stockholm and this is the first thing I see in the bus.
Lovely, home sweet home ☕4 -
Dear human being listening to music in the elevator. I understand that justin bieber song might mean something to you, but please, turn the volume down.
That's not the first thing we want to hear when we come to work.8 -
Just started my first "management" role after 12 years as a developer, first thing I learnt is its just like my last role only I don't have to do any of the hard work.
Worried they'll figure out I'm doing almost nothing soon, any tips? Should I just start scheduling meetings to discuss meetings?4 -
That moment when the first thing in the morning is reading devRant, and suddenly you realize that you already are an addict...1
-
First thing I did on my first computer is to play Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. I really like NFS series since 1998, but I don't have productive PC to play the new NFS games now.3
-
So, I just started learning OOP(Object-Oriented Programming) and my brain hurts. like I maybe understood 10% of the information I just consumed. Is that a thing? Is OOP hard for people the first time around? Am I just dumb? Hell, it wouldn't be the first time14
-
I went camping for 10 days. Decided to finally listen to devRant podcast, so I downloaded all episodes to my headphones. Listened to all of them in first day. The only thing I can say is... When the fuck is the next one coming out? That shit is amazing! I can't wait!4
-
Welp, just found the first horrifying innacuracy in Silicon Valley... Richard prefers tabs over spaces. That cant possibly be a thing, right? Right!!?9
-
Not dev but I need to get it off my chest, first day back from holiday and I'm already stressed.
Today my company's travel agency made a mistake in my first name when booking me a flight. Once I received the itinerary and noticed the mistake I sent an email telling them and politely asking to have it fixed. They said they'd sort it out urgently.
~4 hours later
They changed my *last name* and now both first and last names are spelled incorrectly..
Seriously, how incompetent does one have to be to mess the very thing they were told to double check. -
Oh god! Why did I change to Ubuntu!!! This machine is running hotter and slower!!! Battery drains faster than ever!
There's no going back to windows 10... looking back, I love windows 10 despite its faults :')
Did anyone else experience the same? First thing I'm doing in the morning is install arch linux10 -
First thing in the morning... Buy 50 stickers from AliExpress
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/...8 -
I used to read the news first thing in the morning, and then I found DevRant... so much for the news, and for productivity ...
-
True Story:
first thing I did today: got my tickets for a meat raffle at my friend's church.
second thing I did: took a call from the tech recruiter at PETA. -
My first job and the amount of bad code I had to work with influenced my coding style a lot.
One thing is reading about bad examples. Another thing is it to maintain these bad examples.3 -
What's the very first thing you usually do when you notice your browser tell you that there is no connection?
Be sincerely (+_+)19 -
So, today in the office we all decided chipotle for lunch. We create the team order and sent it out to the entire office.
First thing we noticed: online ordering looks really good and has finally been updated.
Second thing we noticed: it never got tested and it doesn't work
Result: 7 angry developers who just wanted some burrito bowls start emailing chipotle tech support3 -
When i first got introduced to programming in highschool, java was the only thing offered. years later i picked up java again to throw together my first project. a 100 lvl java android phone game on my own. needless to say lol it was my utter failure! i remember my phone acting like it was on heroin constantly after install lol fuck that game

I just did a thing. Signed the contract for buying my very first apartment at age 21. So fucking stocked, and feel bad for my wallet10 -
Of course the first thing I do when I sat at my desk is to update my Firefox. And I realized that chrome also needs an update.
I remember clearly that I just updated everything yesterday. So Google released updates on the same date as Mozilla.
Coincidence? Don't think so.1 -
I fucking hate it when i give someone my phone and the first thing they do is to increase my screen brightness, deactivate eye care mood and start viewing my pictures 😡😡😡😡😡😠😠5
-
That moment when you're hired as expert of technology A, and the first thing that is asked of you, is to do a PoC of tech A integrated with tech B... and then they assume that you are expert at tech B... and to be as fast as working on thech A2
-
I was temporarily involved in one project. During the handout I made sure to write a rather comprehensive readme file. Yesterday I got a message from the client asking about basically the first thing written in the readme :")3
-
After finishing the last presentation for this degree, first thing I'm doing is getting rid of my mustache. 😐 👸2
-
So in my company there is one other person that has exactly the same first name and last name as me, but that doesn't do dev thing.
Knew that one day I'd receive a mail that was destined to him.1 -
I published my first ever thing! Sure it's only a chrome new tab page but I did it! Check out compTab2
-
Fucking fuck Nvidia. Shit suckers and ass lickers can't make a fucking thing properly. Everytime I have to compile something involving cuDNN and cuda I wish I could kill myself first. It's a piece of garbage software that we're stuck with. Fuck you mother fuckin Nvidia.3
-
Out of no where, i remembered the day when i introduced an android phone to my mother.
The first thing she asked was , "Where is the 'touch' in it on which every body is losing his mind?" -
alias cd='open http://itisamystery.com; cd'
We once tried to add in a sleep in there, so it would delay opening up the website for a few minutes, but it would cd immediately, as to not alert the victim to the trigger.
First time we tried it, it totally did not work as expected. He tried running npm install first thing, and it was like a fork bomb with all of these sleeping threads.
Comment below if you have a good fix! I'm no Linux ninja. Oh, I'd also like to know a good Linux version of this since open is a Mac thing.2 -
This weather makes me wanna jump off a roof.
Fucking hell it's so depressing when you wake up and the first thing you see outside is just, grey, dark.
And then it fucking starts hailing.10 -
How fucking difficult is it to first figure out what the hell you want me to build, before assigning me a project?
But noo...make me implement a feature that will do a completely different thing in two weeks, and a completely different thing a week after that...fuck you Jeff3 -
Did you all apply for a job directly right after the end of college or did you do an apprenticeship first and then really started working for a company?
On a side note: Are apprenticeships even common and relevant anymore? Or are apprenticeships only a thing in Germany?13 -
Fucking panic!
First thing I see when I wake up today is an email from my colleague. It says we've lost a hell of a lot of user uploaded files in ALPHABETICAL ORDER. Also, it happened TUESDAY NIGHT.
This will be fun...2 -
so a client yesterday decides they need a site built by eop Friday, that has been quoted today. if approved first thing tomorrow gives about 1.5 days to get it done. Thanks boss
-
Worst mistake ever :
Didn't care for changing environment while pip or apt, always did sudo for no reason.
One day installed Conda and unity. Didn't realise it changed everything to python3-gi. Everything fucked up.
Tried to fix by started removing Conda removed gnome*, lost GUI.
For first time worked on tty, after a 6 hour redbull session. Got back the system working.
First thing then done is learn to install in virtual and local environments.1 -
My battery died after a long day. So, I decided to use devRant web for the first time and to be honest with all due respect this website sucks. Most difficult thing about it is navigation.3
-
Being made redundant from my first dev job this morning.
Might as well make it a positive thing though! I've now got time for a few side projects and open source contributions!1 -
Thanks, AfterShip.com, for working flawlessly while the system I was building was in dev/test mode and for the first few days in live mode, then completely crapping the bed the first day I needed you to work with real tracking data with the live system. You were the ONE thing that was working consistently well, and you had to go and ruin it.4
-
Stopping myself from always proclaiming how things "should have been done in the first place" - as if I never implemented anything the wrong way.
Too much focus on hinsight is an ugly thing. -
My first freelance dev job thing, turned out alright. For the first year though, the dev job thing became a tech support thing. Oh the horror.
-
Start the reading of "clean code".
First thing that i have learn "The only valid measurement of code quality: WTFs/minutes".
What do you think about it ? Agree or not ? -
First day in the office for the year. First thing i do is connect through a vpn while inside a vdi. Fuck me! Since it changed my IP, now i can't access the damn vdi. Can't even restart it! What a way to start the year.
-
Keyboard in my laptop died, mobo issue. Work gave me an ex-lease Dell E6430s. First thing I did was dual boot with Ubuntu 16.10 - can't believe how smooth it was. When I put Debian on my Lenovo G570 I had a ton of issues. I love Linux.
-
My FIRST robotics team 5024 is ordering sweaters and I can put anything I want on the back as my code name sortof thing. What is witty that I can put on it?2
-
Whenever I clone a github repo, the first thing I do is to format the code from tabs to spaces.
Tried not to do it, but the itch is unbearable.4 -
the first most annoying thing in devrant are new users
the second most annoying thing is "new comments on a rant you commented on" notifications. They require maintenance work, and I can't even mute threads on desktop5 -
> # Changelog
>
> ## x.y.z
>
> - Added something
> - Fixed something
> - Other changes
'Other changes'?! What other changes! Either tell me what they are or don't even add it, considering usually not every little thing is listed in the first place..1 -
Have you ever thought "I'll listen to X playlist/album/song, but first I'll figure out this Y project related thing", but ended up working without any music for way longer than expected without even realizing it?2
-
You guys ever have to explain whole project to another employee because you are the only one that know and worked on this project.
Worst thing is that guy is not even a programmer and I have to teach him c# first 😤 I'm soo angry2 -
Hardest thing for me as Team leader is to teach people in my team, that task is done, when unit tests are written, pull request is created, approved and merged.
Not when their code compiles for a first time.1 -
On every website I visit, first thing is to snoop who gave the SSL certificate to the domain
Idk why I do this2 -
First time posting. But I need an advice, I want to learn a programming language to get a better job. I have just the basics of C#, should I keep going with C# or go with F#? I heard a lot of good thing about F#. Thanks. You guys are awesome!6
-
I always hate how I get a great idea for an app/game, and then I open up the play store and a very similar thing is on the first page.5
-
So I google for a dll editor, and download the first result, don't scan it because I'm tired, and next thing I know I have 370 unwanted items on my laptop. Why is the first result on google an adware dropper...7
-
When your building GCC from scratch and you finally after hours get the damn thing to begin to build it crashes an hour in because of some dependency that is the wrong version! why did the build script not include the check in the first 10 mins COME ON!!!!!!1

I'm sitting here at my desk, with headphones on, waiting for a colleague to "finish just one thing" while Hearing his keystrokes and looking in the void.

First time setting up a linux distro for myself I decided to do it on an external hard drive. Accidentally formatted the whole thing. Lost 200gb of anime.
I restored about 60% soon aftet meeting up with a friend of mine. But it was still devastating.7 -
I was wondering if anyone else gets ctrl+z flashbacks whenever something goes wrong in real life. Example: I burned my hand with hot water today and the first thing that popped in my head was: oh crap! Undo! undo! oh wait...2
-
So I decided to download devrant again and the first thing in doing is deselecting the fucking memes. thats not what im here for6
-
Seeing my project when i search for a thing on the first page of the results always warms my heart4

For the first time, I solved a pretty serious optimisation problem in our codebase without any external input. It's a little thing, but small victories like this are part of what makes the job so much fun for me.
Currently rewarding myself with coffee and chocolate. I feel good! -
WHY THE FUCK ARE CODECS STILL A THING?
Have we as a society not moved on and found like the 4/5 "good enough" movie formats. Fucking bullshit needing me to download VLC for the first time in years -.-
AND WHY THE FUCK ARE CODECS ON SALE ON MICROSOFT STORE???? WHAT?9 -
So people always complain about how people ask bad questions on StackOverflow, but it seems people on SO are also unable to properly read the question.
I literally stated in my question that I've tried using android's v7 SearchView and first thing someone answers is use the v7 SearchView, I mean c'mon, RTFQ4 -
When the update schedule for a service you rely on involves sending release notes for major (sometimes breaking) updates on Saturday...in preparation for a release first thing on Monday morning.

Getting a lot of headaches? Try replacing coffee/energy drinks with ice cold H2O first thing in the morning. It works after a week and it shocks your body into waking up faster.2

Its not a product, but personal opinion working on react for the last 4 years and one thing is for sure Reacts functional components are shit to use compared to the class components. Specifically useEffect. React was never supposed to be written in a functional way when it first launched.20
-
First thing Wednesday morning, fired up the macbook, opened vs code, ran the same unit tests that were passing last night, 1 failure! FML.
For some reason an Angular form that was valid with the same data last night isn't this morning. Probably some crappy date issue in the mock data1 -
Network (people not infrastructure)
My first programming job was because of someone I knew in college worked there. Strangely he also got me my fourth programming job.
My fifth job was a recruiter. First time that ever worked. But it does work.
The biggest thing to remember that in an interview you are selling yourself. So you need to understand a little of sales and marketing. -
First time installing a Linux distro as my main system. I chose arch and finally got xorg with lightdm and i3 working. I really live it so far.
Still no browser besides lynx though. Buy there's a more important thing I need to fix first. Gotta style that white console away😎
Also I corrupted windows while installing, so I'll have to reinstall that later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯2 -
The worst thing in any hackathon is coming at 3rd position and there is a prize for only the first two teams.
#Frustrated4 -
Startuppers, hold in there. We are going to fall one by one but remember our field is strong and full of opportunities.
The first domino has fallen at my place and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do.rant startups fuck them investors think money first crisis we will get back on our feet they firin ther laz0rs -
Well, here it is finally, a first preview of the Covey Web UI.
It's powered by CoreUI (the only easy to use admin thing I could find).
If you want to look at the code, be warned: I don't do frontend...

Joined dev rant yesterday. First thing I do today after reaching office is open dev rant and scroll through... really loving it...1
-
My first cpp project takes 148GB ram. My mentor says it's okay till 50GB. God help me optimise this thing. I have started doubting everything. Int I = 0 also looks suspicious.9
-
going through a rewrite is hell. the first stage you will be disgusted with how they layed out their code, contemplate the dump, eventually rewrite the entire thing, then cry throughout the entire process into your gallons of therapy iced tea.
I don't even know what half of these API calls are for. -
The no. of likes on devRant FB page just shows how lazy we developers are, and that we don't really use FB :p
I think devRant shouldn't really worry about FB, and when I say FB, first thing that comes to my mind is Firebase :P2 -
- First company that have female CEO and female CFO
- First female position got that
IS THAT A THING NOW?
and all of those shit are shared by erogant stupid people who claim that they are not gender picky bustards..
just work and let people work without being hypocrite double-faced2 -
the only thing that lets me go on is trying to squeeze some form of even minor happiness out of each day because comfort surely isn't present right now
I'm living in the first world sliding into the third world.10 -
God, if there's one thing I fucking hate about Portugal are messaging companies.
Fuckers that literally park their van in your driveway, drop a "recipient absent" note in your mailbox, and happily drive away without even ringing. (All the while being recorded by the very non -absent recipient from the very window.)
Well, it's a 4k € PC you are delivering. I better have it tomorrow first thing in the day or all hell will break loose.2 -
It's been almost 4 months since i got my first software engineer job.... They only have me doing test support. Should i be concerned? Or is this a regular thing?4
-
I took part in the selections for the Italian Olympiad of Informatics. First question:
Preferred language?
1. C/C++
2. Pascal
What if I only knew Java, COBOL, or Python? It just seems like such a limiting thing, is it normal?
Does it happen in other countries too?6 -
The year my first fucking research paper is published, every fucking thing goes online
I fucking wanted to visit the motherfucking place
And it's in mid June anyways
Not that problematic (as the current predictions go)1 -
after a 24h forced shift working to recover from a raid server failure , the first thing you do is check your notes and see if all is working fine
cool! let's go out 😎1 -
When you spend months putting together a major update for the original scope of a project, release the update to a client, and the first thing they say: "Where's that new feature I asked for last week?"
-
Dear Windows,
Just because you've got an update, it doesn't mean you can overrule my preferences and decide about the preferred languages behind my back. I've already decided and set it up. It's the first thing I always do. So don't try to be clever for fuck's sake.
Thank you4 -
You know what's fucked up a part of debugging? Preparing a fucking word "report" document, in which the table wouldn't align properly.
Seriously, I hate my university's grading criteria. They ask first to send 'weekly reports', and after internship ask for 'final report' which consists the same fucking thing. -

So, I implemented a 30 min jogging first thing in the morning to my daily routine.
Needless to say that I've done it for about 3 days before I failed at waking up early enough to run before having to leave for college. It was a fun ride though 😊 -
Silver spooned europeans get to spend new year's eve partying and getting drunk not having to worry about a damn thing since their government has got them covered with the first of January being a public holiday.
No currency devaluation, no slave labour, no care in the world.
Happy new year motherfuckers12 -
Clearing up my schedule, just got an 18 page resume for the position of mobile lead...
Thanks man I am gonna "read" the whole thing ...Fuck no I did not even read beyond first 4 lines...I got shit to do...like ranting about it...5 -
I am fresher at a MNC and my client is a some photocopy manufacturer. We provide Software development and supporting as well. On my first day I was literally did some Xerox copies my self and it was weird. And I told to my friends about it and the first thing they said is
Can you guess it ?
" Can you take 4 photo copies of my documents "
I was like " Well, now I became a Photocopy shop owner "1 -
Most humbling thing for me us talking to people who have more experience than me about a problem I have. It's kind of uncomfortable at first knowing you're not that good compared to these guys, but eventually you just realize they were where you were once, asking people better than you for help.
-
So I feel confident at least in my front end development skills to maybe start freelancing in the near future. Does anybody have any good recommendations for where to start? How to draw in remote clients? Etc. I honestly dont know the first thing about remote work other than what I've researched.2
-
My first raspberry pi (zero W) came today and forgot to order OTG cables.
Looks like this thing is going headless.3 -
When I first started learning to program, the first time I spent all day writing code. I was working with lists in common lisp. I sat down with a cup of coffee and my laptop, and the next thing I knew was five hours had passed unnoticed, but rather than feeling tired and irritable, I still felt happy and energized. And I thought, "Cool! This is what I want to do with my life. Good to know."
-
getting my new laptop today. Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd Gen). Can you guess the first thing I'll do?
if you guessed "install a Linux distro" you guessed right. I'm looking to try something new; I'm a sucker for dank animations and polished UI/UX. suggestions?
nb4 "use arch"... no.20 -
First time:
- using github/desktop
- working on a little personal testing website
- learning and understanding CSS/HTML
there's basically nothing at the moment, just a proof-of-competence-to-myself thing right now
http://parkcitymedia.github.io/ghPa...
(original repo name i know hhh)
happy i have somewhere to host my web stuff1 -
Finally convince my colleague to try sublime text. His coming from notepad++ and netbeans.
First thing he do, figure out how to change the theme to white background. -.- not so cool anymore.2 -
The first time I got in contact with computers I apperantely sorted all of the Desktop Icons by color, since I couldn't read at the time.
The first thing I actually remember is playing this game: "Knightmare". Loved it 😍 -
"When the browser is exactly these obscure midrange dimensions on this one page the side-bar nav just freaks out. fix it." -QA Lead
Love this type of problem first thing in the morning.
#NeedMoreCoffee3 -
Solving leetcode problems for fun, as I’m highly interested in algorithm problems....and I go to the area where the discussion is, and this spaghetti is the first thing I see 😱13
-
Finally created my first thing ever, a chrome extension. It was only when I finished it and tried to upload it to the web store that I saw that all new extensions are bound to Chrome OS.
FML2 -
The code I am supposed to refactor only builds if mounted on/as drive s:\.
Sure worked for the previous dev.
First thing to do: new makefile. And git init. -
You know it sucks when you log in your PC first thing in the morning and have to wait for 1 hr before it gets to show your desktop whilst your energy automatically deflates.
I could kiss my productivity levels goodbye. -
I hate the word "Proactive"
What does that even mean? You add the prefix pro- to the word "active" and you get the same thing! Why not just say active?!
We're talking an active approach
We're taking a proactive approach
See, they mean the same thing and the first version doesn't make you sound like a douche.12 -
I was getting the milk out of the fridge this morning and noticed that the use by date was today.
First thing that popped into my head: "my milk is about to go out of scope." -
Me : sending screenshots of login screen, API design ,etc. to the client
Client : ohhh that's nice to see..Being a business analyst, I'm just curious on one thing here, does our app work without internet.
Me : Wrong decision on the first place that I chose you to be my client. Fuck you !!! I need to talk to the company that hired you as a business analyst first !!! *Hangs the call* *Facepalm*6 -
it's monday morning. ofc the first thing i do is open devrant to see what hell monday is brining on others.
-
First time using Expo in an already built React Native project. Good thing makes project lighter and easier to work with on slow devices.
However:
Bye bye Gradle build
Hello Build queued, let's see how this will go -
Just do the easy part(s) of the task first. Once you see that the task isn't as bad as anticipated, you're more likely to just tackle the whole thing. That's my experience anyway.2
-
While I'm reading this, I have a doubt in my mind.
"How many people will actually read the entire book?
If nobody gonna read the whole thing, why wrote this long in the first place?"3 -
Don't spend all your time learning new languages or else the knowledge won't stick. Master one thing first, and then move on.
-
Don't know why but I prefer to work/code on linux. It pissed me off when we had to work on windows on java and C labs on uni. On first data bases lab we got linux machines and the first thing we did was starting windows VMs...
-
Been switching from JavaScript to Python lately (because my new company uses it). The first thing I wanna rant about is dependency management. I mean how do you even get the shit running.13

The first thing I thought when I saw this guy was:
SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS!
https://eastidahonews.com/2020/09/...4 -
Back in 2002, when I was 11, I wrote one of my first programs (a calculator in VB5) and then showed all my friends as it was the most amazing thing ever: "look, I made a computer program". Nobody cared by then. I see now some of them are also software developers.
-
I wanted to post a rant about Spring and all, but the thing is so fucking huge I'm not even sure which part should I hate first, if any at all2
-
First thing that I do with weird bug: trying to execute buggy code inside runOnUiThread{} / DispatchQueue.main.async{} and see if it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Got my first computer, Commodore 64, when I was 9. My first thought and only agenda, how can I make this thing do what I want it to do. I believe there was a book that came with it that had programs in BASIC. I copied some and then began to fiddle around on my own. I fell in love and 32 years later, the saga continues.
-
So I moved to a new company.
When entered there at first working day, found one candle on my table. I suppose that former employee left it for me.
Hmm, do you think the same thing as I do ?6 -
You know that you life has gone to shit when you type "p" into your browser and the first thing that comes up is "postresql"2

Screen real estate is the first thing your device will run out of as it ages. Not the battery and not RAM.
-
"I'll make a library out of this part of code, so it'll be portable! But another day, I have to make the whole thing work first"
*1 month later*
"Alright, why are there 4 different versions of this class lying around?" -
Week : 70 ( Year 1 )
Plans for the first weekend?
My cat (well, my neighbour's cat. Sometimes visits my place) looks like pregnant. Any advice to do something? or let nature do its thing?

Mid hackathon reviews.
It kills the excitement that a judge might have seeing the thing for the first time in the final review.
Instead the final review becomes - "Hey, what did you improve from the last time?"
**Its not a fucking sprint**1 -
That's what you want to see first thing in the morning.
Even worse, I slept about 3 hours last night on the same repo. -
This is the first social media I actually like. Came from codingconfessional because there's way less cancer here. Y'all rock.
I left a '# fix this thing here' in production code :/ I make myself feel better by pretending it's a hashtag.2 -
Last day of my job tomorrow, looking forward to the challenges of the next one and wondering what's the first thing I'll be ranting about.2
-
Watching my first demo of Outsystems low code bullshit. What self respecting dev would WANT this as their environment?? How the complete fuck is this a thing??? Buncha lazy shits...4

-
The first thing i have done in 2018 was correcting backup scripts at 5am cause of overflow disks.
Now the regex matchs 2018 😅1 -
For me it's all about finding when I can focus. First thing in the morning with a fresh coffee, I am a coding machine. Afternoon, after eating, zzz1

I leave Ruby/Rails awhile to learn front end JS.
Come back after 2 months, can't remember a single thing, and first CLI command I type gives an error. -
First you’re telling me my work always needs to be 1000% perfect and complete, next thing you’re saying everyone makes mistakes and you need the mistakes so you can learn from them.
I’m getting mixed signals here9 -
C was my first thing in 10th grade, now I am in college, in touch with some Java and Python, and hopefully some more in the near future.

Just learning Rust and I quite like it but the first thing the website says is that it's "BLAZING FAST" and to me this is a red flag up there with someone having toys in their car but no kids and a padlock on the boot.3
-
Project has been in flight for months. Solution design complete. Last minute major scope change by management. And I'm about to start rewriting a high level solution design doc to reflect their sudden change now. Due first thing in the morning. Its almost 12:30am local time.

Pomodoro technique but with 52min stretches and 15 min breaks.
For avoiding procrastination: create 2 Todo lists every day before leaving work, one for small tasks to be done first thing in the morning and others throughout the day.1 -
My angularJS learning project is closely coming to an end. Not bad for a JavaScript first timer. Everything is laid out properly, the only thing left is to connect it properly with the backed :) . PS I'm using angular12
-
I just noticed exp. Rather than experience.
Was there a need to abbreviate? The first thing I thought of when I noticed was Pokemon games...6 -
When i want to install something on my laptop but realise I'm in a ssh session on my server.

Got to say that i love it.
Doesn't always gets it right, but meh .. im ok with it so far5 -
for some reason twitter showed as the first trend the word epiphany and the first thing i thought about was the web browser.
Was pretty good and light but missed a lot of things. -
I work on a larger team where we do continuous integration so there is a high probability people will be working on the same files for different features. As a result, one of the best feelings is grabbing the latest files and not having to diff first thing in the morning.
-
I frikin' love updating Gitlab, every time I do, I feel a sense of dread that some part of the process breaks and I will have to dive head first into the huge thing, with almost no knowledge of how the internals work!
-
Took me 2 days and a fuckton of googling to successfully sync my first android project with this thing called gradle
But well, I can finally say hello android world!1 -
Picking up a project from 9 years ago someone abandoned and trying to bring it up to the new toolchain. First thing to try: pre-existing everything and just make it. Immediate toolchain flaw exposed ("internal error converting unsigned int to int" in a header file in the chain, huzzah!)1
-
About to get my first official freelance job. Any pitfalls or things I should do? CYA tips? Determining price? Would love to hear what others thing.4

First day at work, my credentials arent registered so I cannot connect to the network which renders my notebook useless bc i have to log into a domainservice. I'm waiting for the support while reading a book about the thing i should be doing right now. Off to a great start!

Just found my first piece of code I wrote 12 years ago, back then OOP was still the thing, man I literally fucked up everything you could fuck up about shared state. Why exactly have we never found a solution for that shit? -
Just a Thought
We are not creating any feature
We are just directly implementing bug/error at first place and resolving/fixing that thing with adding more code to it1 -
Found a rather interesting mod for Software Inc. I first thought it was quite nice, just needed some adjustments for my taste. Forked the repo and started working on it.
Holy shit the thing is a giant mess -
Recently learnt about machine learning and it's applications. First thing that comes to my mind "how often do women buy lingerie from supermarkets?"
-
There's nothing quite as sweet as seeing someone in public for the first time in years and you both decide, without saying a word, that you're both just going to move along and not do the whole smalltalk thing.
-
Just started my first internship and I'm already freaking the fuck out so much new shit to get familiar with... good thing I don't run from such but fuuuuck me
-
In our Linux environment, we freeuently use a script called “shutdown.sh”. It wouldn’t be really problem if we didn’t have to switch to rootduring the execution. But damn it, it gives me heart attack when I use autocomplete and execute first thing.4
-
How long are your daily stand-ups with ur team (what size is ut team?)
And when do you have them? First thing in the morning or later in the day?8 -
Going to my first front-end meetup right now. Probably won't understand a thing from lectures, drink a beer, utter not a single word to anyone and go home. Wish me luck!
