Me to my bf: You smell. Go shower.
Him: I don't feel like it...
Me: Sudo go shower.
Him: Goddamn it Rudi..
*wait for it*
Me: *evil chuckle* I gotta post this to devRant14
Client: "This has been broken for weeks! Why is it still broken!?!?"
Me: "Did you tell anyone it was broken?"
I may be good at my job, but I have not been able to (nor do I want to) develop mind-reading abilities. Now please fuck off (so that I can go fix it).7
My top three programming tips:
- Get enough sleep
- Go for a walk
- Drink more water
- Lie down and think about it14
Her: what app is that?
Me: devRant. It's where devs go to complain about things only we'll understand and just talk nerdy to each other.
Her: So where you and your people go to be yourselves?
Me: Basically, yeah.
Her: I thought that was Twitter.
Me: It was, now it's this.
Her: Then what's Twitter for?
Me when I go the IT guy for the 7th time, asking for yet another software installation, because I can't install my own stuff on work laptops.5
Just had to use Google maps for the first time in ages because nothing else was working.
It displayed a bus stop at a wrong location. I just fucking missed my bus.
Thanks for nothing, Google, go fuck yourself.14
God damn it, I'm a fucking computer guy. Not your fucking photographer. If you want pictures for YOUR website YOU fucking take them, NOT ME! Go step of a fucking lego.3
Interviewer: Any plans on pursuing Masters?
Me: I haven't thought about it so far
Interviewer: You know what, work here for 1-2 years then go do your Masters, then join Google or Facebook
Me: Ok :|12
Fucking hell. If I like your bloody app, I'll go rate it myself you fucktwaddle. Don't ask me to rate it just after I've opened it for the first time.8
"My cousin said he can do it for less. But I like you so blah blah"
Why don't you go your fucking cousin then. Stop wasting my time.3
Fuck you. Really.
For buying a pizza for lunch, bringing it to the office and eating it at your desk.
I was just sitting here eating my lunch, but hey. I guess I have to go get a pizza now. Dammit.11
long rant = this;
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
The task: get Windows 7 on my mom's new Lenovo running win 10.
First idea: dual boot. Go into disk utility and shrink win 10 partition leaving empty partition. Easy!
Unfortunately it all went downhill from there.
Restart, can't get into boot menu. Google says you have to do that from Windows. Ok.
Laptop says BOOTING FROM CD IS NOT SUPPORTED. WTF??
Go into BIOS, enable legacy boot, prioritize legacy. Restart. Ok, it boots from disk.
Go to install 7 on the empty partition and it can't because its an unsupported partition format or some shit. Whatever, wipe everything. Ok, installing windows.
Windows installed, need drivers. Go download them with another computer and go to copy them over with USB disk. Windows doesn't detect it. THIS POS DOESN'T HAVE STANDARD USB DRIVERS?!?!?
Of course, the laptop didn't come with any driver software. I end up burning a fucking CD like its fucking 2001 so that I can get the goddamn wifi driver on it.
Ok, I have wifi. Go to Lenovo site, find driver page. Select all the drivers I want for the model/OS and click download. Lenovo site says "hey, use this driver update software." I'm like, hey asshole, why don't you just give me the drivers i asked for. But fine.
Driver update software downloads, I install it, nothing happens. I run it, it says it's already running. Still nothing. What the goddamn flipping fuck?
I go download the drivers individually. I try to install USB driver. It says my system is not supported. .............Try to install chipset driver, not supported. ............ I can install maybe half of the drivers and I still can't even use a fucking USB mouse. Gonna have to wait for windows update to find it sometime two days from now.
I hope everyone in charge of Lenovos fucking ass backwards pointless piece of useless fucking shit drivers gets raped to death with a serrated knife.22
"The exams results are in, go to the portal to view them!"
Goes to the portal, not a single result there.
Send an email to let them know we cannot view the results.
Another email gets send, "sorry for the inconvenience, you need to go to website X instead."
Go to website X, surprisingly enough (not) I cannot view my results there either.
Send them another email letting them know.
2 hours later another mail comes in "we cannot get it to work so students can see the results of their exams, we'll send out individual emails wether or not you passed tomorrow"
First time I've seen an app which willingly, intelligently, and sensibly turns off its own daily notifications after I never used their app for many many weeks.
Props to the devs for taking into account people like me,who are just too lazy to disable an app's notifications. Also Enki is absolutely incredible for devs so go check it out :D13
I thought this launch (security/privacy blog) would go smooth:
- analytics fell, except for one thing, apart for yet unknown reasons
- MySQL came with a very weird error which took me like half an hour of research before I hacked my way past it.
- the firewall started to fuck around for no reason, works now though.
Nginx worked without issues though, as well as NetData 😅
Yeah, didn't go as planned :P10
QA: You need to write a test script for your new web app before it can go live
Me: ok, I'll write some tests in PHP unit and automate the tests.
QA: Oh, can you do that? We just normally write a list in excel then go through each line and write pass or fail at the end.
Me: yeah, good one.
QA: Umm, I'm not joking.
Queue awkward silence...4
I would say world peace, but that's had unlimited money and time into it and still failing, so I'll go for a sentient robot unicorn.8
Once had a classmate schedule a meeting with me to "go over something" for a project we had together. (Not a CS class, but it was a general education class.)
I agree, make time on my schedule for this meeting.
I get there and they say "Yo I just wanted to let you use my flash drive so you could make some changes to the PowerPoint I started last night. Just get it back to me a few days before the project is due and we'll look over it together."
You asshole. Go fuck yourself.
This lesson taught me to ask what meetings are about in order to prevent this bullshit2
Proxmox, i love you but kindly to fuck yourself.
It shouldn't be such a pain to get you up and running.
Let's go for CentOS or Ubuntu server, then.
Now this makes me very fucking angry.
For one because they did it at all but especially for targeting people who would have a harder time to say no and, of course, for deliberately not telling what the data was being collected for plus not informing them for what company it was.
And for the people who will go "mah privacy reeeeeee", everyone deserves to be able to make a well informed decision and the people, in this case, didn't have that chance at all.
Google, go fuck yourself.17
Books and command lines.
I don't like teachers.
I think it's because my learning process is very async and chaotic. When I see a snippet in Golang, I relate it to PHP, Rust and Haskell. I jump to resolving the problem in other languages, trying to find out which approaches work in Go.
Then I read about some computer science concept on Wikipedia and get lost in that while my hunger for knowledge and food increases. After a while I look up a recipe for a pasta salad, and while cutting bell peppers, I see the recipe in terms of typed morphisms, I sprinkle and intersperse ingredients through mapping functions, then decide to write an interpreter for the esoteric "Chef" language in Go so I can interpret my salad recipe while eating it.
Voila, I'm learning Go.
I have no patience for linear mentoring, and others have no patience for mentoring me.
But that's OK.1
During a random meeting for a project:
PM: We'll need you to learn Go for this project. It says you know python in your job skills, so it should be easy.
Me: Uh, hiiii. I'm in security, not development. Can't help you, I really shouldn't even be here.
PM: I think Go has security built-in, does that help?
Me: ... I don't know, you need a developer.
PM: Do you know any Go people?
Me: I think that's something you should know.
- Silence enters the room -
PM: Yes perhaps, but you don't know anyone?
I was working for a company as a Mobile Developer and I had a recruiter calling me up, asking me if I'd be interested in working for the company I was already as a "UX Designer". I thought it'd be funny to say yes. It wasn't - I was let go because my company thought I was looking elsewhere.7
Got a holiday job at a local IT company and I therefore have to go by train everyday 2 hours in total.
Enough time to browse Devrant and to realize what of a great community it has. Thanks for being a part of it!16
Le Me: well it is the time to go back on that Android project and resume the work.
*Open Android Studio, open the project.
*Wait 10 minutes for build/index
*error: gradle outdated, that is ok, update it.
*error: some library needs update
*error: R not found
*error: internal IDE error.
*Clean Project: PC hangs, Fan go so fast..
Shit ! I even not touched the code !8
- Stuck on a weird bug for 30 minutes.
- Visits bathroom.
- The moment I get back suddenly the solution is before my eyes.
Moral of the story. When you are stuck go for a piss. It really helps.3
I'm a freelance web developer and I'm only 16 years old, coding since 5 years! Go for your goals, you can do it!5
What do you guys think of having a "go anonymous" feature while ranting?
I was thinking when community will go larger and people who know each other in real life, start following each other, then it might become hard for them to rant about stuff or they might become hesitant in rantings.29
Does anyone else ever go to random websites and play with the UI... then inspect the CSS to see how it is being done... You know to prepare for your next battle with CSS... :)5
I don't know why but it smells really nice outside at night and it makes me really happy and relaxed :3
Heck I might just go out for a walk...2
I wrote in a rant here that I couldn't access my 1TB external hard-drive anymore because I refused to "Safely remove" it from my computer.
My brother sent me today an image with it, showing me that he managed to open it.
I can't tell you how happy I am!
The solution: if you encounter the same problem (it takes forever for windows to scan it and you can't open it/ on linux it tells you to go to windows and and properly eject it), just go to `Device Manager` and `Scan for new hardware`. This should find it & solve it5
Holy shit I never realised how frustrating it is to code for a client the way they want it... I mean I just want to go back to coding for fun4
I'm a web application developer and work for an abattoir.
On slow days I sometimes I go out and pick a cow, give it name, scan its ear/rfid tag, lookup what farm it came from and how much it cost, then monitor it passing through the various production lines.
Person who has an attention span of 3 minutes, has never done math before, and has no background in any form of code whatsoever, and will never need it:"I'm thinking about learning Python."
Me:"Go for it but it will be difficult to remain motivated."
Person:"But I really want to do this."
Me:"So did every corpse on Everest."4
I don't know which should make me worry:
1. the fact a gradle build for a new project is taking 90% of CPU
2. The fact CPU Freq isn't going higher than 2.18 when it can go up to 3.1?
3. The fact gradle is always taking 5 minutes to build when it used to take 1 minute for a medium project?15
Android Q is actually pretty cool, instabilities here and there and I can't seem to get TWRP to boot on it to get it rooted, but overall it looks pretty usable already, especially for a developer preview.. go go OnePlus 😁16
holy fucking hell, who’s dumb ass idea was it to make Visual Studio require a god damn fucking update for the installer before I can uninstall it, you stupid ass dumb fucks MS, I didn’t just tell you uninstall it so you can go burn more data down my shitty copper pipes.3
Challenge: Make valid sentences using DevRant usernames as words in it. Aim for proper grammer, but don't be extra about it. Anything (😈) works, as long as the usernames are valid.
P.S no binary or hexadecimal words XD31
After being a lurker for over half a year, I've finally decided to join devRant. My biggest hang up was picking an username but I finally decided to just go for it.11
Looks like Keybase now also has its own shitcoin. Isn't it about time for that cryptocurrency wank to end already? How many more BitconneeeEEEECT's do we need?
But but but.. this is the next big thing! It will go *stellar*!10
I find it ironic that some python devs hate on nodejs because of npm modules. But then go ahead and create a virtual environment for every new python project.5
This happens too frequently... I turn off my computer but then I sit in front of it for hours on my phone. It's 2:30 AM, go to sleep, me.4
PM, on kickoff meeting: good code speaks for itself, need no documentation
PM, on UAT day: how does this features work, where is the documentation for it?
Dev: Just do me a favor and go fuck yourself.1
This is the type of coding that makes you go insane. It may be good for beginners but that's it. Also we have to use this because it's for a competition.10
The tour provided with Golang is really nice for learning the basics..
go get golang.org/x/tour/gotour
go tool tour
starts a local webserver with the tour. The lessons and the exercises at the end of certain chapters are really easily understandable.
I think it might also be a good tool to refresh the knowledge about Golang for those that haven't used it in a while.1
If you're using snapchat you might want to go on it immediately and change your privacy settings.
New update came out, they added a map with everybody's locations down to a couple of meters in accuracy... And the feature is on by default for EVERYONE to see, not just your friends.
What the actual fuck were they thinking?? Just think of all the ways this can go wrong.12
Time to go to bed.
Why not trying this lib ? it's not that late, let's give it a try for an hour and then --> sleep.
Woaw what, two hours passed already ? I was just still beginning to have fun ! so frustrating. Na, I could not sleep if I'm frustrated, let's dig deeper for 30min and then, go !
shit it's been an hour already, man, go to sleep now ! ...Actually it's too late already, better not sleeping and keep digging !
In the morning : can't wake up, tonight I promise, I go sleep at nine.
In the evening : oh new angular ! could worth a quick try before sleep !1
There are 21 people in our office.
11 were Apple users. 2 are now android, 3 others are getting it for their next phone.
The other android users would never go back to Apple.4
The fucking moment you have to give up on your cool project or slow it down due to fucking legal reasons.
Government i will just say one sentence to you:
"Fuck YOU !!!!!!!!"
You limit the fucking use of tech to the point that we cant do really cool shit. If it wasnt for some laws then we could do some really fucking cool shit. I mean really cool. People would be suprised whats possible but oh well they will never see it because laws dont allow us to do it without paying for license that is fucking expensive.
Everybody says they want the tech to go forward but we cant with those laws. They dont allow us to do it. Well they do but you need to pay for license for each device and that puts it too expensive for normal consumer.
So yeah. ALLOW US TO DO COOL SHIT FOR PEOPLE OR GO FUCK YOURSELVES !!!!13
Went outside for a jobintervju ...
Isn't it just horrible to go outside and meet something called other people? My GF said it could be good for me, yeah right!
I even saw something called a sun. It was really bright, must be awful to have to watch that thing everyday.9
Why the fuck do people go to so much trouble to justify what they did instead of just admitting they were wrong?
The way I handle this type of people is to first ask a straightforward like "X implies Y, right?" If they answer "yes" I say "then this here isn't right" and watch them go around the world to find a justification for it not being wrong.6
So we were trying to make a Go AI bot for our school project and then let it play against itself. Well... it might be able to beat AlphaGo, right?3
So i have been helping people on the Steam forums for a game in Beta and today i got someone having a go at me for it.
WHAT THE FLYING FUCK, I WILL BE GETTING DEATH THREATS FOR HELPING AN ELDERLY WOMAN NEXT!!!15
Google a problem
Click on first link that details the exact problem I'm looking for. This guy has exactly the same problem as me.
First answer is "Oh my god just google it". There are no other answers.
Go back to google. The entire first page is jackwagons just telling people to google it.
God damn it, I am googling it.5
//Today 8:41 am
Mom: Son, the printer is messed up again(for the 12th time)
Me: Mom, again I don't know whats wrong with it
Mom: but you did computers and stuff
Me: send me a picture
// I go buy the same exact model i replace it.
Mom: Son, why is it black?
Been lurking for a while, figured I would give a rant a go now that I have graduated college!
So here we go, this was the only technical question asked on my second co-op interview. Ended up getting it.
Interviewer: "Do you know any loops?"
Interviewer: "Which ones, can you name them?"4
After concepting my game for years and having no real success bringing it to a playable medium, I've decided, fuck it, lets write a book.
I came up with too much lore and backstory for all the character's to go to waste!1
We have a 15-machine cluster that went down last night because one machine in the cluster went down. Apparently having a cluster for redundancy is just a nice idea and doesnt actually work in practice.
Also I shouldnt have to go to a vendor's forums to find out the bug that is causing my cluster to go down is fixed in a future version. It should be in the goddamn patch notes!!!
I've had my wallet for a good 5/6 years. I love it. It's getting old. So much so I was about to go look for a new trusty pocket friend, however, thanks to devRant it now has a new lease of life... Well, hopefully for a few more months at least. 😪4
Oh for fucks sake on a horse raping twat of a week.
It’s like everything that could go wrong did go wrong, from people fucking up, to orders being fucked up in multiple systems to me wanting to break someone’s fucking nose for being a complete dumb fuck. Seriously how do people that do a job, day in and day out go completely fucking brain dead and fuck things up beyond fucking repair over hundreds of orders.
Sorry but FUCK this shit, it can wait till fucking Monday you cunt rash of a shit.
Some days you write your code and it all goes well.
All your tests pass, you write clean code, you solve your problems nicely.
Other days everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
...the latter was the case for me today.4
I'm sick and tired of apps sucking Apple's dick and making their apps the best thing ever for iOS but it being total shit for Android. Go fuck yourself cuntbags.11
Once you've been writing code for so long, being excited writing code can go away. I still find that I get the rush when working with a new language or technology. It feels good to be a beginner again 🙂3
After designing the new server architecture for our software and the security to go with it, the boss decides we should ask our provider’s solutions architects to see if it is okay, they came back and said it all looks good apart from one part which my manager did and I always said was bad practice.
I called customer support for an unnamed site.
I: I don't seen it when I refresh page
Support: press CTRL + f5
I: I tried, I still bad
Support: remove memory from your computer and reinsert it. Then it will go.
Wtf, Best support ever :)2
When you debug for 2 hours. Due to a logic error. You go through every line. It all makes sense. You find a semicolon after an if statement... Shouldn't the compiler have caught that?4
A few days ago I had an interview, they asked me if I knew Angular. I told them I never used it, and they told me to give it a go anyway. I made what they asked me to do in 8 hours and submitted it for review. Today they called and said they liked it, and asked me to go there tomorrow to talk terms.
Well, tomorrow could be my first day as an Angular developer!3
When you get a dinner for 2 gift for all the hard work you put in the last week and realize you don't have any woman to go with because of it3
How do you usually learn a new language?
My way is to start a project, then figure it out as I go.
I find that books and tutorials are usually better reserved for learning concepts or frameworks.2
This is how Pokémon Go shows errors to its users. It says a generic „Error“ in German with different numbers for different errors.
I am not an UX expert, but isn’t this a really bad practice? The error number has no meaning to the user, so why displaying it? I think it is just confusing and looks ugly 😐8
It's not really a rant but has anyone tried yoga? I absolutely love it after being stuck at my desk for hours and hours. Highly recommend giving it go! 😊6
A functional system bar for my window manager in Go. It's so light on system resources that htop can barely report its system usage. Also, I haven't changed anything in the code in a year and it still works perfectly.3
Always when I have some excessive amount of spare time, something always gotta go wrong and waste 90% of that available time for fucks sake.
Wanted to install raw antergos on my new usb for pure chrooting into it, but it gets stuck on preparing the disk and there seems to be no solutions to it.6
They ask me how i can stare at a screen for 6h and go to sleep right away. They say it makes them unable to sleep after that time.
I say EMBRACE THE POWER OF F.LUX1
After doing some Vue, I probably will go with laravel for the backend.
I'm excited about that, but it feels just right.18
Fuck my life! For my studies at University it is required that I learn how to code... Over the past month I've been learning java, and yesterday a friend of mine has introduced me to Go. Now all I want to do is learn Go, meanwhile our Prof pushes us to learn switch-case and goto...17
Does anyone notice that when you go to a 404 page on Google that the title has a "1" at the end, like someone was trying to put three !s but let go of shift to early.
I was going to submit a bug report, but I kind of like that 1 there, for some odd reason.
(If me posting this rant gets it fixed, I will be upset)4
>About to finish large-ish GUI program in Java
>Finish coding program
>Be happy that you finally finished
>Go to test the program
> Doesn't start
>Debug the code for hours on end to find out why it isn't working
>Find that you were missing a semi-colon the whole time
>Yell into a pillow
>Go to devRant to rant about it11
I just wanted to turn off my throw it in my backpack and go home. But freaking Windows has just decided that this is a great time for an update 😡6
My strategy is really really dumb. I go outside and smoke... ive done this for so long that im now at the point that im terrified that if i stop smoking i wont get unstuck. pathetic isnt it?4
Opening a new file for notes and keeping it open without saving. I will just add things to it until it's HUGE. Then i have to go through it...3
Hahahaha just typed "teste" (Portuguese for test) in duck duck go and it showed me a picture of testicles ( I guess...) With huge "Testicle" written above it in the middle of the office hahahaha
Hope no one saw that, it was funny.1
Am I the only one, who likes to hate the tester for sending back your code, when I should be greatful for him/her for finding bugs?
Replies from me by the amount I get my ticket back:
1: okay, sure, thanks
2: all right
3: oh, okay
4: what? still not okay?
5: how did you even catch that?
6: what the fu** is wrong with you?
7: you again???
8: die already!
9: <singing the frozen theme> Let it go, let it go!1
Trying to plan ahead for each day but i keep failing !
I go to bed early at night but still cant wake up as early as i hope to.
Anybody has a solution for this?8
Holy Shit! I had no idea legit Windows 10 Pro was available for mere $25 !!
I've been living in a cave all this time. On all other sites, it costs ~ $200
Go play asia if you need one.17
Don't you just love it when a customer reports a bug in their live system and it's really urgent to correct it; then you go out of your way to fix it ASAP and deploy it to the staging system for them to verify. Three weeks later the customer has still not tested the bugfix...1
You know what really pisses me off?
Arrogant/Condescending people doing rookie mistakes.
If you are like that but delivers I suck it up and let it go, but if you don't? Lol... Be ready for the shitstorm.1
didn't anyone go for the "#define true false" joke? i didn't actually see it in action, but it would be a pretty harsh one.1
Go and steal great ideas, computers, mobile devices, software etc from the future.
Then sell it for a shitton of money in the 90's
Yaaay, I received my last payroll with extras. Now to pay all stuff to start as a freelancer!
This is a big step for me and I wanted to share it with you
mom : i don't understand why my son became a nocturnal being..
father : son .. what the hell do you do entire night alone in your room with your lappy .. go get a gf or get married .. go get a life
relatives : beta (son in indian lang) my tv is not working can you fix it.. beta my internet is not working on my mobile (goddamnit turn on the mobile data for fuck sake )1
Look, I don't really mind much whether you use tabs or spaces. But for FUCK'S sake, for the LOVE OF FUCK:
IF YOU USE TABS, DON'T TRY TO LINE UP PARTS OF YOUR CODE WITH SOMETHING ON THE LINE ABOVE BECAUSE IT WILL GO TO SHIT WHEN SOMEONE ELSE HAS A DIFFERENT TAB WIDTH SETTING.
YOU DRIBBLING FUCKPUPPET.3
I still wonder why people go to programming classes thinking a dev is paid a lot. Not all devs are paid a lot and it takes passion and hard work to be a good dev. Don't just go there for the money. You'll regret wasting your life.4
Telstra and Vodafone Australia have released unlimited data plans for mobile.
With a base of40GB for $69/month and 40GB for $60/ month respectively.
When you go over the limit, it then throttles you to 1.5Mbps max.
It's a start, better than charging you heaps for going over, but they still have a way to go...6
PHP developers will be amongst the first souls to get into heaven because of all their suffering.
But let’s face it, most of them will go to hell for the atrocities they’ve committed against humanity.7
If the confirmation email for a registration doesn't arrive within 5 minutes I automatically go into "damn I entered it wrong" mode, trying to register again.
*email already in use*
😐😑... 😠.. 😂3
Just came back from vacations and windows 10 thought it would be great to get fucked up...
It's been like this for 10 minutes... Restart won't solve... I think I will just go back to vacations...8
Thank you unity, for not having an undo feature for files or something lice a recycle bin. You nailed it. You made this days work go wasted3
Finally finished my new app Deep Sleep Fan for iOS. Took 3x as long as I thought it would to develop even though it used a shared code base. Check it out at https://itunes.apple.com/app/...
Now I can go to bed.3
My back - for the countless hours of pain from not sitting straight.
My neck - for not letting go of my head even when it reaches 30° incline relative to my back.
I've been using Firefox focus for a while, and for the most part, I like it. But why the hell won't it let me go to government websites (taxes, passports, etc)?
Regular Firefox has no issues with it, why does focus?4
A form for an order checkout has a fucking stupid select box for comments... Options like "knock loudly" or "Ring doorbell"... 🤔
My wife had no way to put in a comment to say it needed to go to level 2! So I took over, inspected the element to make sure it wasn't using ID values for these stupid values, then replaced it with a text area with the same control ID, name and class.
Problem solved, felt like such a ninja 😉5
Does anyone of you know a good website where I can learn about open-source licenses?
I've written a small terminal-based passwords-manager in Go want to open-source it and some of the libraries I've written for it.7
Unifi switches are so fucking bad.
For the third of fifth time it activated spanning tree by itself, causing alot of shit to go down.
It is only a expensive shelf from now on, fucking crap11
Apple event was so underwhelming after seeing new MS products. I don't buy into that Touch Bar hype.
Still I'm gonna go for MB Pro w/o Touch Bar. It will be my new PC5
Fuck! I check my server before leaving and it's fine. I leave to go to see my dad for the weekend and maybe I can remote ftp&mysql into it. No! it crashes the minuet I try logging on!!!!!2
I really want to see the source code for pokemon go even though I'm 100% certain I'll be unable to understand it I just want to look at it and try to learn how it works
But I'll probably never see the source in my life :(5
What the tickets I receive daily are like... -
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.”2
All set up.
I found the shelf under the "ghetto" blaster outside today. Cleaned it up and it was good to go.
Put my dad's old music box on top of it. It's a bit dusty. Also need to clean that up. But for now I think it looks cool from under my desk haha4
The best AH-HA moment is the ones that you just can't get your mind around and then go for a coffee break.
Come back to your desk and then ... bam! There it is!
Thanks, coffee ☕2
Why do co workers find it acceptable to eat and type on their keyboard with greasy fingers and then go on to ask for help only to realise that my fingers are wet / greasy seconds later.... eugh1
When your screen is facing the window, so you’d rather have the door behind you closed otherwise you’ll get the glare from the window.
Why the fuck is it so hard for the people that go through the door to close it behind their fucking asses when they come into the room.
For fucks sake it’s not that hard you uncultured swines.
There’s a new macOS update..
Me: install now..
Os: there’s another account active, blah blah blah.. please accept our new GPL..
Me: fair enough.. accept GPL..
OS again: Hi blah blah, same message..
Me: ok I’ll try „do it later“..
Os: there’s another account active, blah blah blah.. GPL..
Me: go fuck your self, fuck your overpriced hardware, go guck your software that’s way worse than it was 5 years ago, go fuck YOU!!!
OS: I know I suck, but we don’t Care. So please accept our new GPL.
Thanks apple for becoming what Microsoft was 10 years ago..,
So I am interning at this company, and I am Coding in Go.
Now I don't have much exp with go so I'm learning it, and all of my team is cool cause they also had to learn Go. Anyways I am just petty intern-dev so everyone and everything is cool.
Migrating from python to go is quite hard.
Unlearn, You must.
What I have imagined Go, to be is:
While python has this top down approach to inheritance and polymorphism, Go has bottom up approach.
In Python child classes are derived from parent class but In Go child classes create a parent class. (this might be totally wrong, but that's how I've imagined golang)
Go is static wrt dynamic python.
I have coded in C for 1.5 years then I switched to python, so I feel that am familiar with static typing. The path that lies ahead of me shouldn't be too hard.
I would like to take a step further and say that Golang is C, but with modern syntax/semantics. It derives many of its features from newer langs like js, Python, etc while being a compiled language which translated directly to machine code.
That's all 😊
My team members are really great and supportive, I am about 10 years younger than them but we still connect and sync.
Everything is Great, Life is Good ❤️2
Management: "You are the DBA and BI head right?"
Management: "Awesome, so that means you can develop a quick software for me to use? It's really easy!"
Me: "Awesome, here are two options since its easy, you go make it yourself or..."
Management: "Is that sarcasm?"
Me: "...or you can ask the accountant to make it"
IT Director: "you deserved that bob."
As of today, 12:11 CEST, my days as a student who hates school are over. In one month, i will be a programmer. Feels fucking great.
I may go back in the future, but not right now.
Also, in my new job i have to go to school to, but only 1/3 of the time, and i am getting paid for it.2
Ran out of mobile data, go to top it up and it's £3.00 for 100MB or £9 for 1GB ... I'll just wait 3 days with no internet13
I used to love facebook, used it everyday, until all the older people started invading it and made it cringy.
Now I hate it for the obvious reasons.
The only reasons why I don't delete the account is because of family and because I'm a nostalgic piece of shit and can't let go of all those memories I have there.13
Today my ssd showed up, and since i have got my school pc back. And now "own" it, i finally have set up linux on it :)
Works (pretty) fine alongside the windows disk as well.
Man i am so excited for this😀😅
Decided to go with Antergos this time, as i wanted Arch, but didn't want to install it myself, not on my daily.
Well... Its 2:20 and i think its time for me to go to sleep, especially since i started using shortcuts ctrl + alt + L and alt + enter while writing speech for my exam.... I dont think that i wrote anything good but what ya gonna do bout it....
Day 9 of non smoking (attempt no. 16). How do people cope without smoking? its so difficult. After phone call with client... go for a smoke. Get off plane/train go immediately to smoke. Done some good code/solved something, go for celebratory smoke. Have a rehearsal with my band... go for a smoke. Go to the pub...go for a smoke. It’s woven in to the fabric of my existence and unpicking it is a long and painful task. I don’t do the e-cig thing. I don’t want to swap addictions.22
When your favorite DJ comes to town but you cannot enjoy him playing live just because you don't have a girl to go with it.
I am done for 2016 already. This is so depressing. Guy J in town.19
after playing Pokémon go consecutively for the last 2 days I have forgot myself as a developer. it was hard to join office today.

Guys, thank you all for 1,000 +1s! This community is awesome and I could never go without it. I hope to spend the rest of my life here 😇❤2
Feature request: swipe from rant to go back to list of rants. It would be easier than reaching up for the "back" button.7
Woah! Got nice response for "mystartup"! I heard people got many conversions from their posts. Thank all of those who posted 😊 If you haven't already then go ahead and post about your product and tag it with "mystartup" 🙌🏼
Unity for Linux actually works 🤟🤟🤟
Last time I checked it didn’t go well at all. Has been years ago though..
Now lets start building some 3D stuff.6
I am writing an api to get data from another api, mix it with some data from a database and then send it back.
Dear Microsoft power bi team.
Go fuck yourself. Put that dashboard up your ass. The documentation for this is a joke.
The doc says I can get my tokens from azure portal. But guess what. The portal is a sea. And seems like powerbi is moved out from portal to its own powerbi.fuckyoumicrosoft.com
What the actual fuck you dimwits. Why don't you document it properly ?
For fuck sake. Go show up your analytics deep into your pie chart.2
Been thinking of doing this for years. But I think I'm finally gonna try it.
I want to dual boot my PC. Probably gonna go with Arch Linux + Plasma KDE.4
Had a feedback meeting with one of my senior devs today, it went really well and allowed me to get a new view on some things, like some common behavior patterns I do. Really happy about it :3 If you didn't have something like this yet, go for it, it's definitely worth the time ^^
My senior colleague recently said "Don't go around asking for best practices, it's a waste of time! Just try stuff until it works and commit it".
We were talking about writing code in a new language.1
I'm going to do my os class in uni and need a Linux environment for it.
Which distro should I go for?
+ Would be if I could do webdev on it too (performance)

When you go to update your Mac think great I’ll go chill out for half hour, let it update and hit restart, then come back to your computer and realise Mamp stopped your computer restarting without entering a password. FFS rookie error put in the password computer restarts to update. “Calculating time remaining...” 40 minutes. I’m so fucking bored right now just staring at the screen and having a rant.1
How the fuck did my company decide a single toilet stall is enough? Are they really this cheap? Why must I go to the bathroom three times before I can actually use it? Why do they think one is enough for 100 male employees? In their defence, they do have urinals, but I'm not comfortable using them.
So many questions and I STILL NEED TO GO!6
Yo , people
I have never used bootstrap and idk if i plan to
I always built a website from scratch , made it responsive and so on
Is it a bad thing?
I know it seems like i waste time but it helps me knowing exactly where to go and what to change, ez visualization for me.
So what do you prefer?10
If you haven't voted for devRant yet go on and do it! Here's the link http://thenextweb.com/scale/vote/...5
Day 1 - Monday:
Manager: How far did you go on this project?
Me: I have contacted the PM, and due to lack of data we are putting the project on hold since there is nothing we can work with, we expect to get the data next week. Peter is working on obtaining required data.
Manager: I see, okay.
Day 2 - Tuesday:
Manager: How for did you go on this project?
Believe it or not this happened again on Thursday... fml2
Technologies come and go, but it has a lot in common. Set priorities right. Invest 80% of your learning time in fundamentals. Leave 20% for frameworks, libraries and tools.3
My company chose to go with MS Teams over Slack. And now we’re not even allowed to create our own channels. We have to ask our manager to do it for us. Tf? That’s some basic shit.6
Been working on an application for the three days then yesterday happened to present a demo to my target client base.
Me:I need you to go through the app and tell me your experience using it.
User: Great let me see it and comment on it.
Me:I wait patiently as he goes through the app asking for clarification on some activities .
User:I love it but I think would be nice if we improve on the following.
Me:Okay go ahead all ears.
User:How about on the share feature instead of sharing the apps link then one goes and downloads it and install, how about you simply share the APK and install it instant.
Me:Okay that's a good thought and later go on to explain to him why we share links as compared to sending the APK directly .
20 issues assigned to me this sprint with very vague titles and in the requirements it says "See *person name* for details"
Lesson learned: Never go on vacation during the spring planning meeting.3
At the time, I'm working on a simple RAT, for leaning purpose, written I'm Go.
Now simple command-execution work's and I want to implement an encrypted connection between the client and the C&C-Server.
I know Go has some kind of TLS in its standard library, but is it really usable, or would it be easier to just implement my own simple encryption-module with some RSA and AES?
My team lead at my summer internship hailed from an MFC background.
I was able to dictate a whole block of jQuery code to her orally while I was in a hurry to go for lunch, and she typed it in. And it ran perfectly in the first time itself.
jQuery isn't a great deal, but it was a confidence booster for a guy who had only worked with JS for a week.
Here is mine.
So I have been working on a project for 2 months now at my company. Briefly, I describe it as the WordPress of the surveys (create, edit, share, tons of features). Last day, I had to implement one last feature in order to make everything working and as similar as possible with the final product. I had 10 minutes to do it (had to go home) and I was like "Tomorrow bro". Believe it or not, 10 minutes was what it took me to end this fckin' project, and go home on time like "Good job Man, relax it's friday now" :)
Thanks for reading !
Waking up in the morning, sick as fuck.
Happy because I don't have to go to my IT job for the next few days.
Depressed because I'm feeling too weak to develop or learn anything at home.
Last night I had a meeting at 7:30 and a social event at 6. I was just gonna skip the social event but my friends convince me to go. And it was alright.
I go to the meeting and one of the people that we absolutely need canceled but didn't tell us.
mfw I left a social event 30mins away to go to a meeting that was canceled.
Oh and the person that didn't show was my friend and they wanted to reschedule for this morning. Guess what I'm mad and hurt and just gonna be sad in my bed all day. Fuck your meeting.
React Native developers:
Is it normal for the Expo app to suddenly go blank and stop working for no apparent reason, without showing any errors or logging anything? It happens all the time since I started using it and it's extremely frustrating2
It's truly wondrous how far R can propagate shit until it finally gives up.
Looking at the call stack it's been processing increasingly demented bollocks for nine function calls.
Even then it refused to give in. It now appears to be processing an infinite sequence.
I should kill it, but I feel inspired by its tenacity. "This must be crap, but I'll have a go anyway."
Beautiful. A lesson for us all in that.
It's a process for me, I can get unstuck at any point in it.
1. skip song on pandora
2. go outside with dog and smoke a cigarette
3. work on my dotfiles
4. rewrite the damn thing1
Go ahead and start programming says boss, we're 95% this project is happening. It's for sure...
3 months later it's cancelled and customer had no idea we were working on it.
Blisk.io for all you mobile devs out there. It still has a ways to go but it's worth checking out.6
Im required to do a project for work in Go. Im happy about the idea of using a new language but I don’t feel like spending hours learning a new language. Is it a bad idea to just trust GoLand’s intellisense along with quick googling for syntax related questions and just code on the Go...in go?2
I sit in a cubicle and I update bank software for the 2000 switch. You see, they wrote all this bank software and to save space, they put 98 instead of 1998. So I go through these thousands of lines of code and uh, it doesn't really matter. I, uh, I don't like my job. I don't think I'm gonna go anymore.1
This rant must be because of my oldness. I was never into Pokemon, but my oldest kid was.
So the hashtag for Pokemon Go makes little sense to me. It could just as easy be an insulting Poke Mongo (ie harazzing a Down's Syndrome person) as Pokemon Go.
There. Out of my system. Please carry on.4
When you tell a friend you have a website and he says it is a template.
Arghhhhh kill him (or ask for his website and if he uses wix go with the first option)(or he has no website then go with the first option)4
Finished writing code for a feature. Begins code analysis. "Analysing code" moments later "Build Failed". Really?! fucking really?! you tell me that now?
Ok granted it is nearly 1AM here I should go to bed. Good night guys!1
so I come with the analogy for "go to hell" it's just expressions when people asks you something very irrelevant and you try to say "go to help" and in anger you just say it "go to hell".
Read about first Android Go device launch will happen lately this month.
Read about restrictions for Android Go section in Google Play.
" - RAM usage less than 50Mb"
With removed Google Maps (they decided to replace with something lighter later) and without stripping functionality app barely fits 64Mb.
With Google Maps it takes 150-200Mb.
Today found Google Maps Go apk.
It's fucking PWA wrapped in apk.
Poll: Go in Android Go stands for...
- Go fuck yourself
- Go learning web development
- Go writing 100 shitapps per second, all with one button
Do you think a #MITBragDay would go down so well?
Don't get me wrong WIT is amazing and I am all for it. Gender isn't even a factor for me working in dev.
The thing I don't enjoy is being vilified for being a male in tech. I feel like I'm the bad guy.11
Work for myself.
3 projects on the go, 1 interesting one I'm waiting for more content, 2 I have content but they're boring projects and the content was provided in most disorganised, unintelligible fashion.
Day off watching movies it is :-)2
Cure for Imposter Syndrome:
Go try to find a freelancer for a project, for something like "adding OAuth to existing .net web API 2 and angular.ja project" and many many developers respond. You will be shocked at how little they know, they say they understand the job but are clearly incompetent.
Best job security ever. Also, just suck it up and do it yourself 😆
My PC is downloading an update for something.
So, I guess that means if I go online and surf the web, that I'll use 50% of the bandwidth for the update and 50% for web surfing..
It feels more like 90% for the update, and 10% for me surfing the web.. :-(2
Maybe some of you will find this useful.
I just finished the first stable version of my JSON-library for Go.
It provides a DOM-like interface for JSON-documents.4
I think it's a black box for them...
Here is how I imagine they see it:
I go to work -> *I stand in front of the computer all day, typing stuff* -> I get paid4
I'm planning to learn devops but many of my friends says that it doesn't have future for more then 2-3 years...
Any advice should I go with devops or learn something else?5
About to come up with an idea for an app and code it in a few hours before the deadline to a competition I forgot about let's go lol
Recently got selected for Facebook's Open Mentorship Program.
Super pumped about it!
Does anyone here have experience with it? How did it go? What did you work on?
It doesn't start till April, and I cannot wait. Just trying to get some taste of what's in the box!1
Need to use new module or pattern:
1. Read the online documentation
2. Have no fu*kin clue what I just read
3. Try for 2 hours and fail.
4. Go home and sleep
5. Wake up at 3am from a fever dream with the solution to the problem
6. Go to work and implement it in 10 min
I guess I learn when I sleep
Client: $importantThing is a go live feature now.
Me: Okay, but it would considerably postpone the release date.
Client: Oh well, then maybe after release. However, do $lessImportantThing for go live, no matter how long it takes.
Winter winter go away, come again... After a millennia.
Motivated to go into the office because my apartment seems to leak heat and I don't want to pay for it4
I'm on a long road trip with family, and if it weren't for my laptop and devRant I'm positive I'd go insane.
I've been bumping Jerobeam Fenderson Osiliscope music for like 4 days straight and I feel different. Everyone should go lookup Jerobeam Fenderson and listen to some of it.
They want you to go paperless (cos it saves them shit loads of money, and the shareholders like to count it all day long) not for environmental reasons. But their shitty, flakey online banking system is always down or having technical problems. Fucking sort it out!4
Just chanced upon CraftCMS at work--used it for a small side project. Have been playing around with it, and am amazed and impressed with its ease of use. Think it would be my go-to CMS solution for future website projects.
Anyone else tried it? Used it for a production-ready project? Think it could replace Wordpress?2
!Rant (but for those few who keep on giving me upvotes)
First workout done today. How did it go? Really well. In fact, it went so well that I couldn't open the repurposed fire door (thick, heavy metal).
Dear @dfox and @trogus, please make the app go landscape for large screen devices like iPads, now I have to hold it always in portrait mode and it is highly uncomfortable at this size of screen4
There we go again...
I can't remember how many times I saw something like this. It seems like ignorance already become a new standard in IT recruit world😎
Should I give a thumbs up just for daring to ask?!
I was waiting in a queue for Adobe support for over an hour, decided to go for a smoke. I come back, and a representative had entered the chat and closed it because I didn't reply within like 2 minutes ... FU
Just saw someone suggest that msft use Mozilla's code-base for Edge rather than Google's. Can't upvote that shit enough on my own. Go upvote it if you agree? https://aka.ms/AA47goi2
I know and I understand why people still opt for Windows but if they also try to pirate it, that's the only time to tell them to go get Linux. If they're too cheap to get the Windows license, go Linux.7
Unsure of what path to take as a developer.
I'll be graduating from uni next year and I'll probably go into web dev but I'm not really passionate about it building websites for a living.4
Hey everyone my name is nixon. I'm very new to programming. I jUst started learning go, because I'm planning on becoming a blockchain developer. It's been a little tough learning go. Do you guys have any advice or suggestions for me? I feel like I'm not getting it as fast.5
Anyone use Golang here for system programming? I recently learned go and it would be very helpful if someone would describe me the pitfalls in go while writing fast softwares. I am planning to write a music player for Linux in go.11
well I was going to go with the Baller peak but it seems more than a few people beat me to it.
for me I like to step away for a quick game of pool, it allows me to temporarily disconnect from the issue by physically doing something else whilst I play and talk it over. sometimes by myself and other times with a colleague but it usually does the trick.
Yeah right. If we go hybrid mobile app it's like the same work as native but you get 2 apps for 2 platform for the same time / cost. That's how it works 😭
I am not able to decide what to do. I have two option
1. I am trying for jobs in IT. But haven't got yet. Either i wait for it or
2. I go with Non-IT job for now
I really need to do either of the two.
I want to make my career in IT bit right it seems tough3
!dev related, kinda
Why did the devs think it was a good idea for the iPhone to have the flash go off as a notification, I feel like the person opposite me was having a strobe light show5
How many times does it happen that devs leave an old job to go to a "prestigious" new job only to end up hating it?
In my case I don't like my new job and don't want to go back to my old job(even if I did kind of like what I did there). I'm kinda stuck waiting for a certain minimum amount of time to pass so that I could go to some other company doing work that I actually like doing.6
Today has been a day... I tried debugging something.. it failed.. as I saw my day passing I switched to something else.... now I can go for a drink.. I did something today..2
So I needed something to log how many volunteer hours im spending coding something for my school.... I logged 11 hours today. I have no life. Check it out though, it's called wakatime it ties into PHPStorm and everything. It really is a great "you need to go outside more" Indicator.1
Wrecked and fixed my PC every other week in 2004. Later started doing it for the whole neighborhood. Knew then and there what I had to go in life.1
The moment you push hotfix 2 hours before release and go for a few drinks without even building it! Thanks Bamboo for being so observable!!
I know it just keeps honest people honest, but if you were going to create a license file for a product; how would you go about it?1
may do an extreme rpi project…
is a self driving go kart or self flying drone cooler?
and for the drone, i think it would be easier, what do you guys think?
please answer - also for the drone, is there a way i could get it to connect from anywhere (within reason)? i know if it were a cell phone, i could get a signal from anywhere, but i don't want to pay for a monthly plan.4
So I was thinking about learning to write some Go code. I downloaded it and it didn't work. I struggled for hours just to get it to execute a file, but I could not get it working for packages.
Never have I stumbled upon a language that's working AGAINST me.
I gave up, Go beat me. I removed everything on my computer related to Go. Fuck Go!8
When I am stuck on a problem, I try to get outside and do something physical. Go for a run, jump on the bike. Find it clears my head and helps me to see the code more clearly.
One letter story:
This is going to be weird--do it and we'll see how far we can go without going completely insane.
Whitespaces is one single comment, so is symbols such as the period sign. Be creative--use ampersands and quick way of writing longer things.
The rest of the rules go the same as for my previous rant. I'll write the first comment, then we COMMENT THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF THIS GOD DAMN FUCKING RANT!17
Making an ad for web design.
Give me your puns to design something around so it isn't boring...
IT team go out for lunch today. Don't want to spend money but going anyway for the longer lunch break.1
For those wanting split screen to work on android. Go to settings -> developer options -> "Force activities to be re-sizable"
And just like that. It works. (Only problem I've seen is the + button to post isn't there6
Why do all music services have the audacity to be so fucking expensive?! Soundcloud Routinely yanks me out the zone with it's irritating fucking adverts and dogshit quality algorithm that decides I have to listen to 6 ads in a row every few songs, Get the credit card out, go to sign up for their go thing to get rid of them;
£9.99 A MONTH?!
well twist my fucking titties, no.
Exposed framework it is then! It it was 6 or even 7. 99 a month I'd consider it but 9.99?!
You fucking cheeky bastards!
Slowly adapting Go to some microservices projects I have. Shit is intuitive as fuck and I believe it has to do with what lil knowledge I had of working with C back in uni and by myself. For the web Go fits quite nicely. Really loving my time working with this language.
Now, if i could somehow throw it into the mix at work and build something with it it would be quite fun.1
It's 2 AM, and I need to get to sleep.
I am not wanting to compile OpenCL for my Pi in the hopes that it helps this go any faster, but I also don't want to waist my time waiting for this to go.
My current dilemma.1
Not sure if it still counts as a 'dev' goal but for 2o19 I'd like to finally stop being a 'ooh, this is a mess, I can fix this..just one more thing and I'm done for today' person. Even my bosses tell me to go home already, so I hope this year I will be able to do just that: turn my head off and go home, do other things in life I also love.2
This is a happy rant (if there is such a thing)
I love it when you struggle with something for like a whole day, then when you go back to it the day after and figure it out in about 30 minutes...2
Should I go for $30 or $60 a year hosting?
$30 is a local company with very lousy specs but would (hopefully) be good enough for a basic website.
$60 is DigitalOcean's cheapest droplet with far better value when comparing the specs offered.
Basically what it comes down to is should I prepare for the future by paying twice as much?14
Current fix for uploading a file to an android webview, start in debug mode start file chooser, go get coffee, return step through and voila!
now to make it work with tea too..
FOR FUCKS SAKE. I HAVE THE RIGHT URL FOR THE SQL DATABASE. WHY WON'T IT SHOW SAID DATABASE IN THE SERVLET FROM THE URL!!!! It conects to IntelliJ without any issue, so why isn't the servlet running it?
God am I really going to go to stackoverflow for help? I need sleep.3
Start coding a project for version 7.x, everything works in tests. Deploy it on the server and it doesn't work. Checks version and turns out it is 6.x, ask my manager why didn't he tell me before, he goes like so what, do it for all versions.
I go wtf
All right, my sleep cycle is officially screwed. Go find a fix for it in my missing EFI-boot partition...3
Building with Unity3D a VR app for Oculus Gear & Oculus Go
While testing the app, it must have a certain tag in the AndroidManifest and it just works flawlessly
As you upload it to the stores, that tag has to be removed because reasons (?)
Can't you just remove it by yourself, you fucking Samsung?
Any Typo3 devs around here?
I want to know why would one go for this cms nowadays?? I had to deal with it for almost 3 years and cant figure out why it is still used :| does it really have any pros compared to other cms? words cant describe my hate for typo3 right now - and since we have more than enough of swear words on DevRant i wont go into detail :) (in my defence i dont have that much experience with cms‘s)6
I just love it when there is a power outage just after we all go home for the weekend. Coming back to dead servers is the best!
Providing a nice Readme.md file with your open source project is never enough. You need to have a beautifully designed website for the documentation to go with it, oh yes sir!1
Self Study of new technology while the task is already running and the deadline is tomorrow in a cold office.
"When you find your why, you find a way to make it happen!" - ET 💪
When I work for clients I despise, like those who ask for 10 things and while you're at it, those 10 things become 25, I just start the timer, go on reddit/twitter for some time and when I'm tired I start actual work...
Am I the only one like this?
When you go from compiling/testing code on every line change to not checking for hours and it just works when you run it.
Not always, but sometimes.
A foolish choice
I have 2 partitions in one HDD that both have windows installed (dual booted), one for me and my younger brother. Earlier, I tried to rename his Windows folder (the one on the root) and I thought it will remove the dual boot and go straight to my OS.
But to my surprise, I can't boot to my OS either. Where did I go wrong? HELP!10
First rant eva since stalking the feed for weeks:
When you do everything in Production and the Integration Analysts want it done in Staging and Int 2 days before go live.
About to start writing a report for my programming languages course, I’m writing it over GoLang, If anybody has any good resources for any information on Go, let me know!
The report extends into the history, paradigms, features, memory management system, and anything else I can possibly find on this language. I can find some pretty decent references on the footer of Wikipedia, but I wanted to see if anybody who actually used Go had anything they’d like to share.
After learning react, webpack, npm, .net webapi core, ef core and some other sweet Tools for my new project it is so hard to go back to jquery, Razor and asp. Net mvc...1
Wondering where people find good paid coding gigs(like freelance or contacts)
Debated it instead of trying to go into a company but all I see is like code me an aimbot or farm bot for a game5
Who just accidentally volunteered to go through an apps code and write down how it all works?
Asked what I thought was a simple yes no question and have now caused an entire department to question everything they know.
On the plus side at the end of this I'll be the go-to guy for this app. And I can document it as I go.
So win win?
asked the Graduate Teaching Assistant about the syntax for Haskell and why it was giving me weird errors. She replies by saying she's never taken this course before and is learning it along with us but she can help in the logic. -__- had to go ask the prof for help.1
I want/need to learn a new language for web backend development.
I have seen Go but everyone is saying it's bad and I shouldn't learn it. What do you think? Should I learn Go or Python? Or maybe some other language?12
i wonder if there's a frontend for vanilla arch installation
it dosent feel the same with antergos sometimes
I did install antergos as base, but i never got to partiton like you guys have - mainly because i loose patience when the partitioning dosen't go smoothly. It hasn't. not even in virtualbox.
please pray for me
So, somehow I got hands on a Google glass [yep that item which had it's hype go down]. Been wondering what I can do with it. Any ideas about what to do, what to develop for it, anything?5
Conversation with fellow dev this morning:
Him: What are the chances of putting an API for this in to staging?
Me: I'm working on it now.
Him: Good stuff, so if I check this other one, it should go through?
Me: Yes, it should.
Him: I'll test it now, because "should" === "shudder"
Me: "should" == "shudder", but "should" !== "shudder" 😉
Him: Shud up 😆
What is keeping you up at nights?
I'm not a coffee person. I can drink it and go to sleep :)
For me it's Pepsi. Fast shugar for energy, I guess. Strong green tea on 2nd place.5
can’t someone just take jupyterhub and nbgrader, polish them the fuck up and host them somewhere and make it available for people to use without having to go through hell just to set it up somewhere! jeez.2
I decide to try a PCI network card to solve my network issues..
I go for an old Intel one, recommended for its works with everything approach.
Turn PC off, plug in card, oh wait, its a half height card.. no problem, take off the metal deelie and use blutak to hold it in place..
Turn PC on.
Boots fine, and into Windows 10 we go, and blank screen...
Now what.. ?18
Started learning React, don't know is it a good time to start it or should I go for something else!2
When you go to sleep after a git push and wakes up next day to find out it asking for your credentials!
Is it worth building a cms from scratch? I know it requires time but thats not a problem for me, well it is but i can handle it.
Or shall i go with some php cms already build or wordpress ?14
Working on a project for 2 months now, and still got another 2 to go. I am doing all the work since creating and managing the database, all the html, css, js and php needed, dealing with the client, go to meetings, etc... The client paid my "boss" €4000 and my "boss" is only gonna pay me 12.5% of it.2
I currently have a piece of shit Acer. It made a bunch of weird beeps at me last night and the screen had a seizure. What brand of should I look at for a new laptop?
My last computer was a MacBook Pro that I loved. I didn’t have any problems with it until my cat spilled Pepsi on it. I’ve used Dells and Lenovo’s at work - they both got the job done.
Should I go back to Apple because I liked their laptop more than any other I’ve used or should I go for a Windows laptop that is priced reasonably? Should I try to build my own laptop?9
I hate windows man. But I needs it for me games. I just wanted go set up my gaming rig to work double time as a nas. I set up a hostname and all for it but I can get it to be recognized by other device even on the same network.5
I'm thinking about using my rep to post a collab for a open source low powered (low powered if possible) motion trail cam app.
Shall I go for it and rely on others experience? or go for something nodejs based?5
If you can afford it (time constraints), go for a walk, sleep on it, mull over it for a while. Otherwise, just ask for help.
I almost don’t dare ask, because my use of this didn’t go well at one employer, but does anyone use Pinegrow’s IDE for web development productivity? I used it a couple years ago and found it useful in speeding up development but couldn’t shake the feeling that it was another Frontpage or that I was cheating myself by using it.1
Those of you who learnt programming on your own and started a career in this field, how'd you guys go about it? Like what motivated you and how did you manage? Genuinely asking for a friend. :D8
I am now a system administrator, but only for as long as it takes to integrate a new EPOS, then I go back to my crappy old job.
I found a empty space (placeholder for foobar) while searching on Google :/ was expecting to get real one, refreshed it multiple times inspected elements tried to just display:block it but no luck.
I want to go to Google :'(8
Had one of our IT guys create a website so that anyone can search for one of the parts manufactured by us.
Go to test it and get huge error message.
Other IT guys sees it and begs a screen shot. He has been debugging it and never got as much info as I did looking for one part. XD
I created an advanced script to setup some environment variables correct. Since some things could potentially go wrong i put a few exit 1 in the script... it worked for a while until I realised my misstake
Outsmarted myself again.
What is something I can make as a hobby to learn go better? I've made software like a text editor in python, games in Java and c++, software in c, and irc bots in ruby.
Is go used for anything that I can make as a hobby? I'm not in college or out of it yet so I don't have a job as a dev either.
The fact that it is mostly for school lately and also most of the time it's just been documentation the past 2 weeks, one week of just documentation to go...
i developed a code some days back,
QA was completed successfully and no bugs were raised.
i was wondering how in the name of god there is no bug at all as we have to test it for IE🤔
now today on go live day they found a bug specific to IE for text rendering direction.😛 in all other browser its working fir.
I'm about to give up on chrome canary on my Mac. Opens up tonnes of empty tabs (sometimes over 30) when I put the OS to sleep and fire it up later. It's slow and sometimes I have to refresh pages for the page to display correctly. Gonna go with Firefox for now.2
what is a Go Engineer? I hope it means a golang engineer? I can't find a job description for it. cause I love Go and I want this as a job.....Hopefully1
Boss mentioned yesterday about me working with meteor angular, only have experience with meteor react, what sort of learning curve am I looking at?
I figure best to go with it for diversification
So I've come to a crossroads and I'm trying to work out what the best way forward is and I have a question for y'all.
Is a university degree still worth it in this field? Should I go for it and get my degree or spend that time learning myself? How does this effect getting a job? And if you could go back, what would you do.
Thanks in advance.4
Searching in Confluence sucks so bad it was faster for me to check out a branch of my code to find a url in a comment for a particular user story than it was to type the query, go through pages of unrelated results only to give up and hope I got the details right.
Hello guys. I'm aiming to start learning game development. Some people adviced to go for Unity as it is multiplatform. So what are you thoughts?12
I have been tired of everything for a couple of years and thought it is temporary and it will go away. But today I discovered there is a thing called Chronic fatigue syndrome.
Fellow developers, if you are experiencing similar symptoms mentioned in the wiki, make sure you visit a doctor; trust me, this permanent state of fatigue will not go away.
I just made an appointment to doctor and urge you to do the same!1
I initially thought I wanted to go to college for video editing, then I changed my mind and wanted to go into graphic design. Those didn't work out and I began contemplating what I could do with my life. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I could make a career out of the hobby I had since the age of 13. Never even considered it before that moment.
For me the best way to get unstuck is to go for a walk outside the office and think in peace. I work for a small company and we all share a working space so the distractions are endless... Either someone's talking loudly on the phone, or they're asking me questions (and the headphones, for some reason, do not work as a do not disturb sign for my coworkers) so at times it's impossible to concentrate...
When I'm working at home on my own projects, usually on the weekends, I go for a brief swim at the beach. It works wonders....
So I have a question for you guys.
Let's say I have a project that I've been working on for a while. It's something in relatively proud of and would like to show to potential employers as an example of my work however, o don't plan to open source it and I'd like to one day sell it as a product. How would you go about displaying it? Would you display it or keep it under wraps?
Always dismissed tools such as JSBin for no apparent reason. Gave it a go a few weeks ago, and god damn as I love JSBin now.
that moment when you have a really promising idea for an app but still don't know how to do it / know exactly it is still a long way to go.
I start telling everyone about my cool new idea and start researching how to go about coding it to find that someone has already done it way better than I ever could. T-T
Or, I start coding it for a bit and then forget it ever existed for a few months and then remember it again and then work on it a little more and then forget again and the cycle repeats until I lose interest in the project.
1. The fucking wifi is retarded at work, it works for 2 minutes then drops connection for 2...
2. The building is also a fucking bunker so 4g signal is pretty much nonexistent
3. Spotify won't let me view my "offline" saved albums unless I go totally "offline" within the app WTF
LET ME LISTEN TO MY FUCKING MUSIC FOR FUCK SAKE5
StackExchange- the place you go when you have a valid question in any academic subject if you want an answer that includes being told how stupid you are for not knowing it
Does it count as desperate to go in a startup/co-working space for programmers etc (microsoft flux) and taping a big paper to my laptop cover that reads
Please hire me!1
Has anyone developed websocket server in Nodejs?
I am planning to use socketcluster. Has anyone had experience using it? Is it good or should I go for something else?11
is it a normal thing to have 117 table element on a html page? i'm to young? i heard it's was normal few years ago. or ppl coding this site are just shit?
i will probably go for this one2
What do you think about this?
I will need a new laptop soon and I want to go back to Linux. Is it worth it to go for something in there, or is it better to get a any other machine?3
Not a rant but how can I go about maybe getting a tutor or a mentor to help me with my java efforts. I'm self taught and I've been at it for about 4 months.1
It always seems that debugging tools are almost impossible to find for the language youre learning.
Here's an entire tutorial on Go - last chapter is how to use the debugger. GAHHHH
wanna increase my ram from 4 gb to 6 gb.please help.which brand to buy .how to put it in.memory speed ..should i go for 8gb instead of 6gb .....11
Are there enough tech jobs in canada? I am currently going for masters there.. don't know if its worth it to go in that direction.1
Everytime i go to my class for java i forget a shit ton of what i learned last class.... and i hate it
Is Pokemon GO programmed using cross-platform technologies or is it natively coded to both Android in Java and in Swift for iOS?5
Altera Quartus II. Fuck it. Fuck its licensing, its installation script, and its humongous size!!!
Seriously! It's almost impossible to install it properly on Linux in one go! 😠
And "Aborted. The application will now exit". Well, thank you my good man, for the fucking helpful error message!!! Go screw yourself!
Also, first post ^^
