Took a leave from office citing valentine's day and now I am sitting at home working on my personal project.
Yaaaayyyyy....10 -
Finally have the home office I've always wanted, with only a few more things left to do in order to consider it finished.
Power company loves me.
Wallet hates me.18 -
My girlfriend and I have been bored last weekend so we made some 8bit style Lego figures which are now decorating my home office :) (well in fact she made most of them)8
-
1. Go to office!
2. Make coffee!!
3. Start computer.
4. Get to wo.."Windows must restart in order to install some updates".
4. 3 hours later => "Working on updates 68% n/ Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while."
4. Fuck this, I'm going home.
I miss Linux...14 -
The bloke that I share my office with is asleep on the job. Ffs, can I get any support around here?
This working remotely from home thing, just isn’t panning out13 -
I came from a village, we have animals (like a farm), pigs, chicken, sometimes duck and goose. One day I had to work from home, bc had to come back to parents house. Our daily skype meeting was like this:
* discussing very important IT stuff *
* grandma rushes into my room *
me: sorry, but i have a meeting
grandma: i just wan...
me: but i cannot right no...
grandma: just wanted to know if...
me: grandma, I cannot right now, we have a skyp... im talking with colleagues, on the computer
grandma: * quiet voice * okay, i dont want to interrupt, I just want to know - Did you ordered the ducks?
* what I hear in headphones: collegues and boss LOLd sooo hard *
me: ffs, what ducks?
grandma: did your father not give you the guys number?
me: * starting to sweat * what guy? no he didnt, i have no idea what youre talking about
grandma: * disappointed * then who gonna order them...?
me: ...
grandma: * standing next to me, she hears the laughter * whats that?
since then, if im working from home every skype meeting starts with "Tommy, is your grandma there? HAHA!"7 -
My co-worker quit by saying he was going back to school.
The dude just went to sit at home.
He figured that its much better than constant "abuse" at the office. 😂3 -
*While I was working from home this occurred*
New Accountant: How come Dev gets the nicest chair in the office?
IT: He brings his own chair because he doesn’t like the ones we have here.
New Accountant: How come I don’t get a nice chair?
IT: If you want a nicer chair either ask your department manager to buy one or if that doesn’t work you’re welcome to bring in your own
New Accountant: I shouldn’t have to bring in my chair from home! I want a nice chair like Dev has but I don’t want to spend the money to buy one as nice as his and my department manager said we don’t have the budget to buy one either!
IT: He buys them from a used office warehouse for pretty cheap actually, cheaper than what the company pays annually to rent these chairs from what I’ve heard. He has 3 more at home. You should ask him where he gets them from.
New Accountant: He should give me his chair! He mostly works remote anyway!
*This resulted in my being asked to come into the office to remove my chair because it was “upsetting people” in the office*20 -
Amazon was the first company that adopted the hybrid model: working from office Monday to Friday and working from home on Saturday and Sunday.6

This is Spork. Spork lives on the desk in my apartment.
My girlfriend bought the plant for her office but he wasn't getting enough light there so now he has a better home on my desk and gets lots of sunlight during the day.4 -
Kind of sad but true.
1) "If you don't love your job, take a home loan".
You will start loving it.
2) Take another loan, you will start loving your boss as well.
3) Get married. You will start loving your office too.

But can't stop anyone from ranting. :/1 -
Oh you're sick but you've decided to come into the office when you could've worked from home. Thank you for the gift of the plague.13
-
Dear son: when I ask you to stop using Netflix because I need all the network juice for a work-related call, please do close it or play a downloaded movie. Don't just turn the volume off...4
-
You can work from anywhere... anywhere in the world!
Hmmm... Yeah, right! But not when management likes warm bodies at the office.
I hate, hate, absolutely HATE having to travel to work, spending at least 45min to an hour in traffic just to get to work! 😤😡 And then rinse and repeat to get home... which means I'm up at 5:30 every morning to be at work by 7:30, only to get home past 18:00 - traffic permitting! *sigh* 😩12 -
My co-worker convinced me to post my setup up since this is what I'm using when I work from home, or go on a sprint. I'm way more productive here than the office! Maybe they shpuld just let me work from home indefinitely 😎
I like to think of this as my happy place :)8 -
Don't ever ever forget to push before leaving office.
I repeat : Don't ever ever forget to push!
Sends app to client.
At home and decides to check if the changes actually worked just to realize it crashes because i forgot to comment out my dummy test data.
*On a bus back to the office at midnight*5 -
Reason #387 I wish I worked from home:
Some dude at this office needs to be banned from toilets. I'm pretty sure he craps in his hand then tries to swat it into the bowl with a slotted spoon.2 -
So 10 months ago i moved from Cambridge (UK) to Guildford (UK), due to moving this distance i started working from home and going into the office once a week.
Now after 10 months i have finally got my home office how i first imagined it. Everything runs from my laptop which is located on the shelving unit away from my desk. Everything plugs into it via 1 USB lead.
Setup:
27" 2560 x 1440 monitor flanked by two 1280 x 1024 monitors.
Asus Laptop (i5-6300HQ, 12GB ram, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD)
Home PC (i5-7600, 8GB ram, GTX 770)
Accessories:
StarTech USB hub - This allows me to plug my three monitors, keyboards, mouse and everything else into my laptop.
KVM switch - Allows me to swap between my Work PC and Home PC with a click of a button14 -
Home office / lockdown story
Last year, when the first lockdown happened, everyone in my office started working from home. Including myself of course.
I decided to use x11vnc for remotely accessing my PC cause it is super convenient.
A few days into the home office and suddenly the remote keyboard acts weird, with random keypresses that I didn't do, and then the letter L was written over and over like it was stuck.
Assuming a bug in x11vnc, I restart it several times, but no luck. Whenever I open a terminal it is full of "L"s within a matter of seconds.
So I restart my PC remotely and reconnect the x11vnc, which is a huge pain in the arse if you have ever done it. And can you believe it... Still the same problem!
So, finally I gave up and went to the office to see what the hell was going on with my PC. I entered my office room and could not believe my eyes.
What had happened? The room cleaner had wet-wiped my desk. To create enough free space for that, she had first cleaned up the mess, putting the scattered paper nicely on the side, but then also *putting the bloody mouse on the bloody keyboard*.8 -
We are forced to work from home until further notice . i am hating every second of it. Being home and not gaming or binging on anime / netflix feels like a punishment. im more productive in the office.15
-
Bought a 🏡.. o.O 🎉 Yaaay!
Soon™ I'll have a decent home office! & a 🐈 & a 🐕... maybe.. I hope.. (:26 -
Time to download a 20GB image on corporate network: 7 hours.
Time to tell my NAS at home to download the image, go home - by public transport - copy the 20GB file to my laptop (already downloaded before I get home) and travel back to the office... 1 hour 50 minutes.
My office even has fibre optic and my home copper...9 -
Had a skype interview yesterday...
> prepared for interview, checked internet and all
> home internet died literally 1 minute before call
> started interview using phone hotspot
> phone hotspot died in 1/3 interview duration
> used mom's phone's hotspot
> died in 2/3 interview duration
> oh shit
> went out to phone company's office to get more data
> half way to the office, mom calls: home internet is working!
> yaay! goes back home
> nop, internet isn't working (glitch in mom's phone which showed it to be working (wifi symbol))
> goes back to the office
> gets phone recharged (office people were SO slow 😑)
> gets back home
> continues and finishes the interview...
10/10 will do again 😂😂😂😂
The interviewer was quite patient, and waited for me to get back home (he called me 2-3 times to get a heads up)
Lol this was honestly THE most exciting and fun interview experience for me yet!
The interview questions were pretty easy btw (programming)
Waiting for result now...9 -
Wear headphones at home office. Not because I can't play it out loud, but when you go around in Iron Maiden shirts the wife gives you a hard time about listening to J-pop.4

Dear HR,
I am suffering from Corona and request you to grant me paid leave for 30days otherwise I will come to office
(reply from HR)
Dear Ritik,
after knowing that you are infected , we have immediately asked all other employees to work from home, therefore you can come to office and start working. your leave request is rejected.5 -
I called in sick on Monday. Worked 6 hours from home. Took today off for the holiday. Worked 3 hours in the office.
I really need to get a life.2 -
our HR made a survey about home office and how people think about coming back to office in the future. Shortly afterwards, our new CEO sent us an e-mail saying that he would like to see more employees in the office again soon. After all, it is paid for and must therefore be used. Of course, it's better for everyone to commute 2 hours to work every day, and last year home office worked well for everyone.
Personally, I can do without constantly sitting with my colleagues in a noisy office where 10 people are on the phone at the same time.
Bonus: In his opinion, software is better when it has more LOC.
Bonus2: Last working day for me is end of September. After that I start my new job with 43 days vacation per year :D10 -
Once worked for a guy who lectured me in front of the whole office because I didn't continued work at home after I stayed 3h unpaid overtime at the office.
I quit soon after that.3 -
Don’t even. It was more like 72 hours. Done a whole weekend sleepover in the office to get a deadline sorted, left at 6am Monday morning. Got home at 9am and get a phone call asking me why I’m not joining the meeting 🤷🏼♀️7
-
Don't attempt to reach the Balmer peak at the office without first practising at home.
It will take many attempts to know how much you need to drink to achieve it. It's a fine, fine line. 🙃3 -
PM talked me into comming into the office because of some subjective "culture" reason. He worked from home that day (didn't state a particular reason)
Would you be mad?9 -
In a moment of boredom I decided to pen test the new system I've been writing on the live server. Ran sqlmap but forgot to proxy my connection.
DDOS protection kicked in and blocked the entire offices connection to the server, had to drive home quickly to use my home internet to un-blacklist my office ip. 😂10 -
I went searching for a meme to explain my wife why I get frustrated when she comes to my home-office to ask if we should buy or not that air purifier we discussed once... found this. I think it helped, I hope it helps you too3
-
Could all this fucking weak sick people just stay at home instead of coming to our damn open space office and be coughing their guts out ever 20 seconds for all the office to listen! damn, have some respect for the healthy people and go lie in your bed.11
-
Came to office and found out my Devrant stress ball is missing from my desk.
Should i go back home?2 -
You were hired, not adopted.
The company is not your family.
The office is not your home.
And your boss is not your friend.
You owe nothing there beyond what you are being paid for.5 -
I LOVE WORK FROM HOME!! I love it sooooo much. You suckers think I’m actually doing work? HAHA. No honest, I’m so much more productive at home than in the office! Hahaha I love this!!!8

at office: i’ll bookmark this web page so i can check it once i reach home

I don't swear while in office.
I don't swear while at home.
It takes me about an hour to get home, during that time tho ...6 -
Company: Govt says you should stay home to prevent spreading the disease. PLZ WFH.
People start to WFH.
VPN gets overwhelmed.
Me: Cannot connect to VPN.
Boss: Then go in the office!!!
Me: Uhh...3 -
The best part about home office isn't that you can fart without co-workers getting annoyed. It's that you can even use a lighter on the fart to see whether it will burn.4
-
Today I built my own desktop. Ready for varnishing and some legs :D home made office for working at home15
-
I drank left over coffee last night... Couldn't fall asleep.
I drank coffee for lunch in the office... still can't stay awake and want to go home....
Why???!!!! 3hrs left....3 -
Rant for Indians
Who the hell gives you joining in the Diwali week. Half of the office has taken holiday so that they can go home. My orientation/induction might also get cancelled because of lack of personnel. And her i am stuck in a new city away from home for one of the major festival in India.14 -
> Me on call
> Notice that our Echangeserver is not working, strange that I did not get any alarm?
> Start working on it, the services are slow as fuck. They dont start
> Nvm reboot
>10 minutes later the same problem, start to dig deeper.
>Everything goes slow because I am not a Windows guys
>The big boss calls, clock is 7 AM (our office opens as 8AM)
> She is angry that I am not at the office, because the mail does not work.
> I am working remotely from home, 30 min drive to work
> Told her that I have a 30 min drive and I was supposed to be home to take care of wife that was sick
> She is annoyed, pissed.
> She demands that I need to be at the office to solve the problem
omg,,, I don't work better if I am in the office.
Also, it turns out that a colleague has turned of the alarms from Nagios/OP5 for the exchange environment because is once spammed his phone.9 -
Internet went down at the office, was 10pm so probably time to stop working anyways.
Get home, Internet is down. Text friend, their Internet is down.
The isp for this entire area is offline.8 -
I literally can not go back to a single display setup. I have a dual display both at home and at office.5

It's a non-working holiday at the office so I'm at home doing nothing. I asked my boyfriend what to do for the whole day then he said "Spend your day to something you really enjoy".
Ah yes!
So I'm building a new project. What an exciting day!1 -
I will be working from home tomorrow.
*Today*
I am at office because fuck me! I forgot my laptop charger here. -
4pm and the neighbour starts drilling.
Excuse me lovely neighbour, some of us have late meetings to attend 🤷♂️
I got asked if i was on a motorcycle. 🤣6 -
I really love taking HR mandatory training concerning covid-19 that apparently speaks for me.
Did you guys know that I was dying to go back to work instead of remotely doing everything from the comfort of my fucking home?? and that my biggest fear was that i would be at home too much and missed the workplace?
No? well, me fucking either. I was way the fuck more productive working from home that being in my office dealing with stupid shit all day because i was constantly being interrupted.
Pretty sure my employees felt the same way when I yelled from my office :"y'all this training is some bullshit and apparently you guys were fucking dying to come back"
and one of them yelled "ahhh hr speaking for me again!!"
Fuck brainwashed trainings.5 -
Dev: *walks into therapy office*

Hey guys share your Home or Office Internet connection speed right now 😃
Office: Download 78.61 Mbps, Upload 65.44 Mbps
Home: Download and Upload 8 Mbps28 -
Yesterday with my boss:
Hey boss, can I work from home tomorrow?
Boss: No, I need you in the office, we need to discuss some things together.
....He didn't come to the office today, he just made me come to train the newcomer LOL.6 -
People talking all day about how great and working from home is like it cured cancer! Got it, you like working from home now shut up and start making it into some sort of religion. Not everyone likes working, sleeping and being in the exact same spot, some people like interacting with other humans!
Nothing will replace being in the office with your colleagues, interacting like HUMANS12 -

Working from home has added 10 hours a week to my life from not having to commute to the office.7 -
What a nice day to goto the office.
-some exercise after being stuck at home for a week
-no one on the trains even as they run smoothly
-nice "warm" weather and morning
-nice views9 -
Non tech coworkers before COVID-19: you don't need home office, it's only a way to avoid job responsibilities
Non tech coworkers today: yeah home office is a great idea, why we didn't think about it before2 -
Assuming you make $100k and that's more than covers your cost of living.
Would you prefer being able to work from home whenever you need or make $30k more but have to goto the office pretty much every day?
The commute is 1hr.37 -
CEO: “Everyone has to come back to the office. No more COVID working from home nonsense. We need to work together in person to be truly effective.”
Everyone: “There aren’t enough offices and desks for everyone.”
CEO: “Oh, also, we’re laying off thousands.”
Everyone: “Well, ok, but there’s still not enough room for everyone to work together in the same spaces.”
CEO: “Ok, contractors can work from home to make room for the remaining full-time employees.”
Me, a contractor:3 -
Home office!
-Everyday PC
-Laptop for the convenient mobility.
-Old Mac Mini for iOS builds.
Here is where I pretend to do work. -
Why the fuck did i rent a hugeass aparment when i spend 99% in one room?? Im gonna home office today in the kitchen just to be efficient. Also gonna wait out the ligma outbreak here :/12
-
Having to use home PC because your office PC takes a millennia to train a classifier. Why not just work from home?4
-
I'm starting to like the crisis. Not only that I have home office, I'm also in for reduced working time. 3.5 days per week from next month on, and the state will fund 60% of the pay loss. Yeah!17
-
Was busy today doing some house work. Everything was normal till afternoon.
Me thinking of using laptop noticed that there was no laptop
My office laptop and another bag was stolen from my home .
It had most of the production details and source code. Running behind police for help now.
Informed my boss too about this incident.
Will update on what happens tomorrow in office.
Fuck that person who stole my office laptop and destroyed my Peace.8 -
Came home tonight and had mail (Yes! Actual physical envelop) waiting for me from devRant... can't wait to get to my laptop (which I left at the office)
-
A colleague went to work in his mobile home since he has to spend a few days in our office and he refuses to go on hotel. My office is above a shop and we share our parking.
Now one of the employees of the shop just entered in our office and bitched that the mobile home is taking in too many parking spots.
The parking is more than half empty :')7 -
He took everything home that he took from home to create a workplace form himself... man the office was empty when he was done...1

the feeling when you work 9 hours a day and you are waiting to get home to work on your own apps. getting home takes an hour. After arriving home your girlfriend (who was home whole day doing nothing) tells you that you should go to buy some stuff and we got some letters so you should go to post office as well....7
-
Went into home office today.
Forgot the laptop charger.
Half the days over and I'm at 16% battery.
Fuck.10 -
A 27" monitor with a 1080p resolution is a match made in hell. Oh the eye bleach. (At home I got 30" with 2k or 1440p resolution. Much better viewing experience.)
I'm having my first day in the office in the new job after two week of remote work. I think I will prefer working from home office definitly (even though the office coffee machine is nice).
It doesn't help that the internet connection in the office is 100 Mbit and at home I have 1 Gbit.9 -
Client doesn't have space for us consultants at his office anymore....guess we're going to HAVE TO work from home! Jeeeeeez......how horrible is that!? ..... 🤠2

So I'm in Italy, close to Milan, the biggest infected zone in the whole country.
I'm still going to work as we're in 2 people in the office and we're alone in a 90 square meters office, so no big deal after all.
My city is actually empty right now, so I'm just going from home to work speeding on my motorcycle (no really that speeding, since my motorcycle isn't that powerful)
So nothing really changed actually and I'm still working the same way I did before8 -
Well my home office is a proper mess currently. It isn't so much an office as a corner desk in the child's nursery, but house hunting went on hold.
It features the likes of my devrant ducky, crazy aarons thinking putty, a stuffed gnu, and a galileo thermometer among other paraphernalia; also a plastic goat that screams when I push down on it. That last one is a huge help to me these last few weeks.1 -

My day:
5:30AM - 2yo son wakes me up, I send him back to his bed
6AM - wakes me up again, gotta grab a coffee
7:30AM - leaving towards the office
8:30AM - finally arriving to the office, after horrible traffic.
*continue working on major schema change I started yesterday*
12:30PM - Lunch + Beer
1:30PM - Tequila time!
*back to work*
7:30PM - Finally done with coding, leaving the office
8PM - home at last
9:30PM - Beer time
9:31PM - "I'll just write a couple of more lines"
12:30AM - "That's it, no more code for today"
12:31AM - "I'll just scroll through devRant"1 -
I don't have any 'home setup' (it's just a laptop), so instead I'll post my office one.
It's always a bit messy, so bear wirh me :p -
Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live5

This might seem like a dumb rant to have but I just started a new job, and I asked my boss about the Work From Home policy and basically, there is no work from home, at all. I'm bummed out because I got into a really good WFH rhythm at my last job and now I have to go into the office every day, even though I am stationed in a different city than the main company office anyway. I'm already remote! Why do I have to pay to come into work remotely anyway!? Argh.15
-
I saw a rant about overtime or staying late if your boss is still at the office.
It's the same in a(lmost all i think) Japanese Company.
9:00-18:00 work schedule.
Come in earlier than your boss before actual work schedule.
Go home after your boss after the actual work schedule.
There's no more work to be done and they think you going home early weren't doing enough work and shit.
Good think i left that company.3 -
I really invested into this work from home lifestyle, moving in an appartment where i could have my own office, upgrading my personal workstation, leaving overpriced locations close to subways behind.. so i do hope it will remain like this for at least a few more years (or why not, even forever for dev roles)
It's way better than a shitty office placed in location equally incomfortable for everyone
Otherwise.. well, there is always the option to go freelancing from home3 -
left the office early today to see my 2 years old son before he goes to bed.
it's 11pm and I'm working from home, gonna wake up around 5:30am to commute to work.
I really need to move closer to work3 -
Needs tidying and I’m not exactly using it for work at the moment... but this is my home office / bedroom setup.
There’s an Alienware Alpha hiding behind the MacBook, but it hasn’t actually been on more than once since the MacBook came home... 😂2 -
internet connection "speed" in Germany might be the reason why so many people still queuing up on the roads on their way to an office despite being allowed to work from home at least in theory10
-
I was assigned the research of an issue, after doing that I told in a meeting what we needed to solve, then someone asked which engineer would take care of that so I said me and they didn't listen. Then they asked again and someone else spoke before I could. I can't have good performance if they don't give me tasks. I'm bored of doing nothing, fuck quarantine making people forget I exist.5
-
Best thing about the flood here is Houston is getting to work from home for 3 weeks straight. Getting to get my home office in order and avoid traffic is awesome. Not really a rant. Not really sorry.1
-
I got home from my day job today to work on a side client's project that is due tonight.
Realized I'd left my laptop with all my setup for the project at the office.2 -
Internet at home down.
Internet at office also down.
Two different service providers but they use the same backbone or whatever you call it shit which is broken and the repair needs hours.
And I still don't wanna rant about it.
Maybe I need to check myself with a doctor.1 -
Depends.. in the Office? Someone watching over my shoulder like a creep.
Home office? Hot chicks walking around outside my window 😅6 -
What I Like about Home Office?
My squeaky clean toilet. No colleagues who Block the toilet, no colleagues who seem to forget their bathroom cleanliness at home -
Me: "Omg, I'm so not sorry you didn't get a response to your 2:00am text sent to my private phone number about that super duper not important thing that a four year old could solve... but my girlfriend gave me a wrist band thingy that puts my phone on silent whenever it thinks I'm sleeping."
Product Owner: "And you can't set it up properly!? Your title says `señor software engineer` for god's sake!"
Me: "Yeah, it does. This is a hardware issue, though."
...is what I told her and she bought it. 🤷♂️2 -
So, I put forward to the recruiter that my T&Cs are that I would like to work from home for a minimum of 3 days per week due to the travel time and traffic involved, and that the recruiter should put that forward to their client.
The recruiter received this in response...
"We would be open to looking at flexitime. In terms of days at the office, we would be need him to come to the office three to four days a week as communication is challenging when we have people working from home."
Have they never heard of Slack or Skype... or the Internet? Or am I missing something?9 -
Summer: when I wake up automatically at 6am but forced to decide whether to work from home or commute to the office
... because I want nice food and to go outside at lunch time12 -
Friday evening, thought I would leave early and go home. Clicked shutdown and there you go, you have 91 updates to make. I am now stuck at office for more than an hour. Windows sometimes behave woser than my clients. 😠9
-
1 - Stop working from home and start my own office
2 - Get more clients as a consultant/software house
4 - Launch SASS products overseas to get more 5x income
5 - 6 travel at least 3 times to other states -
The biggest challenge I face at work is having to sit in one place and work all day. Office feels like a prison. I miss working from home.2
-
My dad always told me to use my head...
Well now its raining and they need to get back home. My apartment is 15mins away from their office by train + Uber...
Their home is a 1.5hr train + car and that's assuming everything runs on time.
Somehow it didn't cross their mind that perhaps they would be better staying over at my place? ...3 -
So my boss asked me why I came into the office when it was said IF POSSIBLE, work from home. And i told him 'I am practicing social distancing from my wife.' XD2

Late update to the party, but I’m temporarily occupying the newly decorated living room while my room / office is being prepared for a swish new look.

I'm not a developer by profession and my home setup is always messy (where I develop personal projects) but I am an intern sysadmin so here is my office desk :) wanted to join the whole show your desk movement

So working from home today... With the heater set to low, I realized something...
Being sorta cold seems to make me more awake and productive than the warm office6 -
I just set up SSHFS so I can play my media library on my TV without moving all my data!
Basically my setup is something like this:
*Gaming PC (with a total of 10TiB - 6TiB being used for my /home) located in my office
*Home Media PC (with total of 150GB) located in my living room
Everything I have is on my 6TB HDD, and just my Videos folder is larger than the hard drive in the Home Media PC, so I decided to set up SSHFS. After about 15 minutes of reading man pages and trying different configurations, I ended up just needing "sshfs -o nonempty -o allow_other [user]@[location]:/home/$USER/Videos /home/server/Videos/"
This is so great guys; I love Linux so much!3 -
Just drove home after working late at the office. Was kind of in the zone and didn't wanna stop.
On my way I see the police closing the road in front of me, because of a pretty bad accident that happened a couple minutes ago.
MFW Coding saved my life! -
people with 8+ years of work from office experience, is 9-6 the only truth of work life? today in sprint planning, our manager suggested assigning 81 hours of tickets in a 2 week sprint and when a lot of us had 60-65 hours of work he was like "ehh it seems less . junior mgr , look into the softwares and create more tickets"
2 week sprint is 9 days +1 day for sprint planning + 2 sat Sunday 🥲 . additionally it takes me arohnd 2 hours to reach home so i try to get out by 5 pm and everyone starts staring at me. as am a bad example, i will probably be hearing from my manager in future about this.
need some tips on handling a stable work-office life. i am a covid graduate so i have seen a great wlb in work from home but its a true reality that for mext 30 years , the chances to work from home for more than 5 cumulative years is next to 0. so need a permanent office hack.
i don't think buttering boss's ass is a reliable solution . i just wanna be back at home by 7, do some workout, roam in car/watch series/work on hobby project (aka relaxing) eat and die on my bed for next day's horrific life13 -
So i already worked 40 hours this week and i have still 8 more hours to go.
Made a shift from 08:30 till 23:30 and wannabe lead had the guts to tell me i could work from home.
Maybe it's not a bad idea to leave the office.
And fucking quit1 -
Finally got around to rewarding my geekiness at the office with some geekiness at home.

My new home office.
I haven't posted on DevRant in a while so thought I would share my new home office set up.
My old set up was great. Dual screen standing desk, fast desktop and great monitors.
Since having a new baby a few months back, the home office is now a nursery. My only option is to sit at the kitchen table or stand in the kitchen (I prefer standing).
So here it is, my new office. Laptop on a kids toy box, fit snugly between chopping boards and tomatoes.
And hey, I don't actually mind at all, I love my family.
Just remember that when life gives you tomatoes 🍅 ...5 -
According to many of the rant posts, I am not a programmer.
I wake up 8 in the morning, eat breakfast at home and then get to the office at 9. Work till noon and then enough 1 hour lunch, back from lunch work till like 6-7 pm, have dinner at office then head to the gym workout for an hour to an hour and half and then head home, shower and sleep at 11:59 pm.7 -
4 a.m. I got a nocturnal leg cramp so bad that I had to reinstall this app. Fuck forced homeoffice.4
-
The problem with daylight time saving is it also gets darker earlier....
And well work hours don't get shorter... Just means now after sitting in an office all day, I now go home in the dark.
Who exactly is saving on daylight...
How about we also cut work hours as well...3 -
I'm so done with indeed and jobstreet. I couldn't find an office job that I passionately love. Most are looking for PHP devs, ASP.NET devs, Java devs or effing fresh graduates with 5 years of experience. I guess it's time for me to learn freelancing.1
-
And so it happened.
My company installed app-operated locks in the office.
Today the internet went down during the night and nobody could get in to even get their laptops to work from home :))))
Brilliant move and there's certainly not been anybody who could have predicted that.3 -
I never yell at co-workers but I did get yelled at quite a lot of times (2019 - pre covid).
I was leaving the office on time.
Just another reason I support people working from home.2 -
Back in office after 5 months of COVID work from home... Now my office screen feels positively tiny - and curved to the back, because I'm so used to my 33'' curved LCD at home... FML.
-
Job offer be like:
"You will be working from home with mostly flexible hours although you will need to attend the team meeting which is at approximately 8:30am GMT and to work for 3 hours after this time for team collaboration" -
"If you're going to be living in the office, you can at least be on time for work"
This sums my mornings since i started working from home..
8:55 get out of bed
9:00 open laptop....and I'm at work :|1 -
Fuck... I knew I forget something in the office....
But only realized what after I got back home...9 -
Today is a funny Monday: all the people at office forgot their keys at home (me included, also boss included) Until we can enter the office, I'm going to code at public library. At least I'm happy to carry portable Notepad++ in my pendrive!!
-
Walk into the office this morning and say hi to co-workers, get told I look like hell and should go home if I'm sick.
I feel great, but thanks for that...Susan.3 -
With work from home being way more productive why the fuck would any software development company go back to the office? Rent, workstations, and electricity are expensive! Why spend that money when it’s not essential to your business.6
-
Still working from home office is killing me. I don't like commute but sitting here alone is just horrible.4
-
Doing home office today, so I started to work 1 hour and a half earlier than usually. Where is my daylight, Munich?!?!4
-
I don’t wanna brag but my home wifi might be faster than your office wifi , also It’s 1500 GB at a price of 0.022$/GB 😬28
-
So apparently, all IT staff of #ryanair is banned from remote work. Some of them are in Madrid, Spain. I heard a lot about their workplace and how "employee friendly" ther are. But to make "equality" excuse for staying in office cause pilots cant work from home...1
-
The day we had to have an app ready for an upcoming demo. Management said everything needed to be done by the end of the day. My change was done, but was dependant on another change being merged first. I had been in the office since 8am. It didnt get merged until 5pm. I was in the office until 8pm trying to fix the insane merge conflicts. In the end i gave up and went home. The next day we discovered that the "deadline" was made up anyway so we still had time. I wanted to flip every single table in that office.1
-
Today was nice. All the owners were out on vacation except for one. He took me out to lunch and went home after. Even though the office was silent and free of distraction, I did not work... I watched a webinar and played Hearthstone and ingress. Nationallazyday enjoyed.2
-
everyone is doing home office and I'm sitting here with my LTE connection struggling to even open this page..1
-
Asked to do overtime so I do. Everyone has gone home and now it's time for me to go home, so I go to leave the office to find the gate padlocked. I'm stuck. There is a side gate for cars that has a security code but I have no idea what that code is. So I end up waiting around and stalk the cleaners car out of the gate 'sigh'.5
-
It took me eleven months of working from home to investigate renting a coworking space. Eleven wasted months! The coworking office is TOTALLY worth every USD.9
-
I am working my ass off for past couple of days to set up our new office. Today I got sick and sleep walked most of the time. Thank god my colleague was there with me. I'm home now and took a day off. 🤒🤒😞
-
We were forced to work from home since our region is under "Enhanced Community Quarantine". I brought my work computer at home so I don't need to set up shit on my personal computer. After 2 days, I lost my internet connection and I can't contact my fucking ISP, their office is closed and their customer service doesn't exist. I am now under No Work No Pay policy. Fucking what the fuck.1
-
@localhost long weekend are for feature development...1 week from launch...in your in laws bonus room.6

We have been chilling a lot in our comfy clothes during Work From Home.
Wondering how many of us would be sticking to comfy attire even when the office resumes?
So, Comfy or Professional - which one is going to be your go-to-Office outfit? 😎15 -
When there is a blizzard and all local buisnesses shutdown, kids are stuck at home, and the doors to the office are locked but the CEO sends out an email reminding all software developers to remotely work from home as long as they still have power and everyone else gets paid time off due to the weather.1

when you're in the zone coding away and the coo comes into your office to kick you out because he wants to go home and he has to set the building's alarm before leaving

In office I work on a RedHat VM on a windows m/c.
At home I work on elementaryOS VM on a macbook.
My shortcuts are fucked. -
can't believe I'm so eager to go to work early today (to download windows 10 anniversary update)
ps- my office internet >> home5 -
Can't wait to set up my custom standing desk at home made from Ikea parts. It will be based on the design in the link below but with a few modifications since some parts aren't sold anymore. Anyone using a standing desk?

Being forced to leave the serenity of my home office where I'm happy and not riddled with depression to work from an open work space with long shared desks. I can't effing wait!2

Decided to work from home as full of cold, keeping the germs out of the office. Emailed the team.
2mins later a scaffolding truck arrives to start covering the block I live in...

I need to decide about my new job:
+ 20% more salary
+ better job/role
+ 1 or 2 days in the office by average per week
- no more 100% remote
Accept or no? I have been working from home for 3 years24 -
Is there anything nicer than having home office Friday and meeting up Monday only to discover that you were excluded from a meeting that Friday and they decided on a bunch of things that invalidates a lot of your past weeks work, making it top priority to resolve and now exceeding deadlines…3
-
The main benefit of an office environment for me is - conversely - the best part of working from home. It's super useful to be able to just summon someone for a 7 minute pair programming session, but i have a much greater focus at home when I know I won't be interrupted during work hours.
This whole situation is definitely making me want to work more from home and I'll probably try to make it a regular occasional thing in the future.1 -
Do you prefer working remote or in the office?
I like to view these as equal choices. I don't think offices are as bad as some people make them up to be (of course heavily depends on the environment and company!). In opposed to working remote, offices can help you focus more on work and leave work problems "at work".
While, if you're working remote, it's not unlikely for work and personal life to become so intertwined that it's hard to tell them apart anymore. It's hard to not think about work at home if home is where you work.
I believe an ideal is somewhere inbetween - not entirely remote, but not entirely office focused either. Mixing and matching seems like the one approach where you get to have most of the benefits, but with the least negatives. It doesn't seem necessary to always be at the office but it also doesn't seem good for you to always be cooped up at home.7 -
So after 3 months of working ( which implies a 2h trip from home to get to the office ), going to college ( another 1h from home to get there ) and making a thesis to get a fucking Bachelor degree. I'm kind of done with everything except the job. I mean, I can't focus seriously in anything besides coding. So my question for you guys is, How do you get the important stuff done even if you don't wanna do it ?
-
Going to the office when the girlfriend is working from home.
But most of the time, I knowingly stay home too3 -
The idea of going back to work in an office terrifies me. Like...it really scares me. I really hope things work out even better than I hope and I get to keep working from home while still projecting my career upwards.4
-
upcoming life choices :
- leave home( and a lifestyle where i live/eat rent free, save 90% of pay check, start work at 12pm and end at 4pm but still renowned for being the most productive engineer, workout and party) to live near office and wfo 3 days/week
- quit a relaxed job + look for a similar role in highly competitive/unstable economy + stay at home with parents who are very much controlling, and repeatedly quarrelling amongst themselves and/or with me/my choices
yepp, both points are true about my home life: its a physical paradise as well as an emotional hell1 -
Can't git push
because of an "access denied" error message
because I didn't set up my key file properly (with right paths, right format and so on)
because I'm working from my home laptop device
because I'm in home office
because Corona
..but..
I can connect to my work computer where git is set up properly but also I
can't git push
because I can't "cd" into the project path
because the samba mount point is messed up
because I don't reboot my machine to fix it
because I can't enter my password
because it does have a full hard drive encryption and the password screen shows up before the network services are started.2 -
Can't understand, programming in work (office) makes me so tired, bored, I just can't concentrate, programming at home is so fun, I can do it all night2
-
If you had a choice, what environment would you prefer for programming [and why]?
- home
- outdoors, nature
- caffee, library, etc
- office
- [other?]4 -
Today I came to the office motivated... for free internet
14 app more updates to go...
BUT I JUST REALIZED I FORGOT MY CHARGER AT HOME.....
FFFFFFUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK -
2 months ago, I turned guest room in my home office. Earlier, the family used to call it guest room. Now they say, "That thing must be in his office".
-
Company now sends everyone to home office.
Expected - "Yeah! No more time spent with bus/subway. I can finally escape from people stopping me when I'm ready to leave."
Reality - "mail received at 8pm and phone ringing 'did you get that file? Need it ready ASAP.'"2 -
Huh... Seems like my company is going to implement flexible office/home hours even after lockdown is lifted.
Not sure whether they're trying to rip us off, because we're going to use office space less and they will pay less accordingly, or whether it is really a an improvement because allegedly many people here responded that they would like to have such a flexible option rather than being glued to the office space.17 -
Working from home working on the company project. The working time ends and i just switch projects for the next 6-7 hours... and i am happy with this1
-
This lack of real human contact is getting on my nerves. Most of the text messages, discussions, especially in PR or design roads to follow develop into pissing contests. Always proving how much one is right and the others are wrong. -
I get so pissed off with little details, e.g. useless, wrongly handled boolean return values. Cannot understand how they don't see it my way. Or how they can feel superior by offering platitudes like "One should never use singletons". As if following some stupid rules and patterns from a book made you a better programmer instead of looking closely what each problem really needs. Or how they don't measure properly/scientifically or can't interpret the numbers.
My blood pressure already rising just from writing about it. Maybe I need to get some time off. But at the same time I feel like, they are doing it all wrong or not the way it should be done, so it's hard to let go. To obsessed with all that shit...1 -
Is the office dead in the dev world? Does everyone prefer to work remote from home, coffee shops or Coworking spaces? Or is there still value in working as a team irl, but modern office culture is killing it?24
-
rant
When you come 1000kms away from office to home.. and promise to do WFH and the wifi at home is slow...
Killing me!!
Too many backlogs this sprint... -
To have a professional job that lets you work remotely from the comfort of your home in your own office; which pays you well enough but doesn't pressurize you into unachievable deadlines. One that gives you ample time to relax and do some part-time projects for yourself. One that lets you spend time and contribute to the communities you're part of and help you grow both professionally and within the community.
Oh, and best of all, work in the open - open source, open culture and transparency. -
I forgot how fast my office pc was until my laptop at home grade synced and built my project for a full minute!!!!3
-
How do you cope with stress and maintaining structure to your day as you work from home? Since I started working from home, I'm struggling with vaping more than normal, exercising less. When I was still in an office, I had an unconscious rhythm to the day that I took for granted.12
-
I am working more effectively nowadays from home rather than from office.
At office, I end up spending most time in eating, playing table tennis and meetings.
The only thing I am missing at my house is my 2 big 27" 4k office monitors. -
So the bus I get into work has been cancelled and my office manager said I could have the day off but I had some important stuff he needed me to finish so I remembered I had TeamViewer installed on my work machine so I'm going to be working from home today4
-
I miss my office fast internet connection. I only have 100 Mbps download / 35 Mbps download here at home.32
-
One thing I have realised these days is that I don't like the work from home setup.
Maybe it's the because of the bad working environment.
I actually appreciate office space more now. Once, out of office, it was easier to zone out of work mode and I didn't feel this much tired when working in office.1 -
Actually, the office. Because it's a space exclusively for working.
I did home office for quite a while and still do so from time to time but i get distracted and/or lazy too easily to really get something done at home.
In the office, I have to be focused and so I am for 8+ hrs.
Unpopular opinion: 9to5 is great.1 -
I'm stuck in a rented apartment in my work-city and working from 'home' during the quarantine. Now, the owner wants me to leave for a month while he shuts down the place - right after the quarantine ends - when I HAVE TO GO TO OFFICE.
:]5 -
had been working from home and that was my plan for today as well but got called to office on a MONDAY for some hardware related stuff and guess what? the stuff related to it isn't here. thanks
IT1 -
One day i do some code at home and i commit it ... Back to my office i realise its not my last version of my branch ... Fml ... Git push1
-
Today gonna be one of those woozy days.
Could only fall asleep at like 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning. Had serious allergic reaction or itchy disease starting from two palms. No med at home. Could only scratch and endure. And the fucking itch was moving from one body part to another throughout the night.
Went to the morning appointment and now heading office. One cup of coffee and one can of energy drink in me. Might add more juice in me later at office.5 -
Just got the news that I can start house hunting next week. My office will soon have a new home 💪🏼1
-
This morning, I realized that my most productive moments for work usually happen at home, working overtime. :/
-
I used to think work from home have lots of pro like we can save our travel time, don't need to dress-up etc and I always wanted to do wfh. But this Covid-19 pandemic made me to hate work from home now I want to go back to office so that I have fix in-time and out-time and proper 8 hr work time.5
-
My job is introducing a new system to (legally) avoid some taxes for the employees and get then more netto compensation. But in the meantime, they have removed all benefits of having a (free) home office. No free screens, no free chair, no free keyboard/mouse, ...3
-
When I work from home, I probably spend less time working, but I do it seriously
When I work in the office I spend most of the time I would not actually work, pretending to work and probably time spent in actual work is much less
But I guess that better performances in work from home, do not feed automotive industry… -
So a little while back, my location was officially switched from "Specific Office Location" to "Home Office", i.e. I was finally _officially_ full-time WFH. The other day, I had to visit one of our physical offices for the first time in years. What I didn't realise until that point was that I HAVE to work from home: I have to access a specific VPN in the US to do my work, but you can't connect to any VPNs from within our office.
Genius.
🤦🏻♂️4 -
Why is it so hard to find a good work from home position? I love my home office and I honestly don't get distracted so it would be perfect for me.8
-
Home office adventures day 1:
Coffee machine good
Productivity low
don't know if this is too good for me, we'll see -
[best part of wfh]
Absolutely nothing, i have great equipment at the office, my colleagues are my friends and we have a chef who cooks great food. At home the only good part is that i have my ps4 but i use my vita at work so its not a huge pro.3 -
Our office just moved to a new place and our internet is not yet connected to the line. Our network connects to the web with a mobile access point in the meantime and it's pretty slow.
One of our managers tried to download some large files without success, then decided to try later from home via TeamViewer onto her office PC.
We tried to not laugh.1 -
battleground: work from office vs work from home?
comment your opinion below with age and total years of work exp.8 -
As a lot of companies have been moving back to work from office. What's your right mix for work from home / office?25
-
Working from home, the office is pretty unbearable in this heat.
Anyone else feel like conference calls in your underwear is a top work from home perk!5 -
Wash your hands longer, use desinfactant, don't get too close to each other and dab when sneezing. So not really any thing. It is already expectet of you that you go do home office when your sick.
-
So, Our company called us back to office after 8 month.. and reason was our boss is giving.. You guys may be work on bed.. It is bad for your back.. Here we will provide you better working enviornment and please do carry your laptop to office :P
But I think its okay to work from office.. Once I was excited to work from home. But dude you can learn from the person sitting next to you, discuss things around,, can see what others are doing.. Its a progress. At home you are just u and laptop :)
Personally I think its better to work under someone superior obvious he/she should be technical and egoless.. then its more fun.3 -
Its happening right now. Trying to get a project in my company when I am not willing to travel every week. Is it too much to ask for a project based in my home office? Especially with it being the company headquarters.
-
Sometimes I work from home, I don't know if i'm allowed to but nobody says nothing and I don't notify either, my record is 1 week without showing up at the office, I want to stay one month just to see what happens.
Do you think they trust me or I'm unnoticed and replaceable?8 -
Update: now we are all home office for a while, and i had to set up signal (the dev team normally uses telegram) to keep in touch with everyone and wow what a fucking garbage app.11
-
Hi.. How are you doing devs?
Me.. I was lot busy cause my company decided to end working from home.. and office environment sucked Like My shift got changed from 2 to 10 .. But our all employee request for permanent work from home.. I am glad that I am on now permanently working from home..
Suggest me some good ways to utilize this opportunity..:)1 -
I work from home and my biggest coding distraction is when the house is a wreck. I also love in a small 2 bedroom apartment and my office is in the living room..3
-
Depends on which desk we're talking about...
Office desk: an empty can, a tophat well as a demo and some Russian paracetamol I found from a pocket of my winter coat.
Home Office #1 desk: the keyboard for another computer, a plant, a bunch of magazines and newspapers belonging to someone else, a roll of kitchen paper, someone else's meds, a cup of cookies, another cup of small tomatoes, a Swiss army knife, a bike computer and a tablet.
Home Office #2 desk: wife's laptop, a bunch of chargers for a myriad of devices, a Kindle, some envelopes full of stickers, others with bills, a lot of random crap, and usually when I'm at the desk, one or two purring felines -
Hello! What do you think about IT companies that allow ONLY vaccinated people to work from the office? The rest are limited only for working from home.26
-
What's your current remote work policy?
Our CEO said we have to go back to office next week, despite government strongly recommends to work from home. He says "I don't care what government says, government is not paying our salaries. We need to produce value in this company!"
Wuuuut??6 -
Sitting at my table in the office.
Not doing nothing for about 20 minutes.
Thanks (fuck you) windows update.
Sincerely,
an engineer that nearly has a home (finally). -
After a year working in an office where everyone worked part time (manager 3h, other programmers 5/6h per day) and I was the only full time employee …
… one day the manager told me: “since today is pre-holiday you can go home one hour early as we usually do”
…usually…
… after a year…
… of many pre-holiday days …
you finally felt that it was the time to inform me that I could have spent less hours in that 💩 office?
Well thanks…
[… finally I don’t feel so guilty for going home just 5 minutes after the others left the office because there was nothing to do …] -
Finally after one year i managed to set up my home office - so much more comfortable than sitting on the kitchen table when I am working on some side projects, from home or when I am playing some computer games

office devs: im so glad i can work from home and be away from my boss.
fiverr devs:hmm.. I wonder whom might my new boss be. -
A colleague hast to stay on home. office for a other week bc he was in Venice three weeks ago (after already being back to the company)
The mother company canceled all business trips until the end of March (including my trip to RXJSLive conference in London). -
Working at home has made it to where a task that used to take me a couple hours takes a couple of days, should I get a co-work office space?2
-
So far not much has changed in my office, only a colleague or three are working from home for two weeks as a precautionary measure after returning from a Coronavirus hot-spot.
For myself I see little danger: I commute by car, the office is so far Coronavirus-free, and I still have to go to shops to get food etc.
I'm more comfortable working in the office, as the environment is set up better, and I can chat with colleagues more easily when needed. If I should need to WFH for extended periods, I'll need another monitor (currently I have one nice 27" BenQ monitor on my desk at home), and a mechanical keyboard (the one I bought is in the office). -
Having my own office, or working from home, and having the ability to learn new technologies on the clock. Also have my ideas being heard.
-
I LOL at those pictures of ppl that work from home at the beach 😂. Thats bullshit, no programmer could ever work like this with no ergonomics and a laptop on the lap for more than an hour.
-
I'm anti-social, but sitting alone in my home office day after day is starting to get to me.
Thinking of renting a desk at a co-working space.2 -
Another con for working at the office instead of remotely: I WANT TO FART AND SHIT SO MUCH BUT CANT CZ OF MY COWORKERS. WHY WORK IN OFFICE BRUH I WANT FROM HOME5
-
"So you will do home office uh"
~starts working~
"You're not working. You're just sitting at you computer doing nothing" -
I didn't realise how much home office messed me up until I went into the office again... holy fuck, it feels like I just woke up from some nightmare.
I cannot explain it, but I feel a lot better now.2 -
At last the weekend is here & here I am at home away from office stress, working on my small Raspberry Pi project.1
-
How do you know it is Monday in the office?
Everybody are either working from home or suddenly took a day off lol -
Dad come home with a computer from his office that they where going to "throw away"... taught me how to move icons around
-
I only spend like 10-15 minutes to go to the office by motorcycle (that's the cool part, to avoid traffic).
In the past days, these 10-15 minutes are everlasting: like i start my engine and then i feels like an hour before i get home or to the office.
Man i really need a vacation from my life or to start working remotely (working on that)2 -
I have totally lost the sense of discipline in work after working from home for the last 9 months.
And there is a lack of contact with people other than immediate family due to new restrictions which is even more frustrating.
I will always be the one preferring to work from coworking spaces than home.
And if anyone wants to bring up the point of reduced travel time then please don't. My office was just 15 minutes away from home via train. -
So I called my previous employer and he seemed to be happy to hear from me. Sadly, he isn’t free for the weekend, but we’ll meet up next week during home office.
Hope it goes well.3 -
When the company you work for buy you a laptop, do you take it home or leave it at the office? If you take it home, do you use it as a personal laptop for side projects for example?11
-
Mmh I've got the option of moving to a VB.Net homebase role or stay in a C# office base role. what should I do? (The only thing I want to be based at home)4

The fucking sun in my (home-)office burns my eyes and I see fucke nothing!
Not even with a light theme.5 -
Tfw when you left your earphones at your parents home and you don't have any spare earphones at your own home.
Well, guess I'll just have to hear all the gossiping and whatevs in the office for the whole week1 -
!rant
I took a holiday from working at a computer in the office to spend more time with my computer at home.
I wonder what I'd have done had computers not been invented. -
hi anyone had experience whit TATA TCS?
I word from home but now they want that I work in the office in other place.
any experience thank you all4 -
Not much riskiest though,
So on my office laptop I've duel boot Fedora as primary OS and windows another.
So for some reasons I needed extra space on windows so I had to un-allocate some space from /home as it had assigned too much disk(more than 100GB I think)
So I unmounted /home moved all the /home/myuser to /opt using sudo then did sudo rm -rf to /home/myuser and un-allocated some space
after I restarted laptop I get to know that I fucked up little xD
Took me while to fix that shit, I literally created one more user and fixed it as at the time of booting it was trying to get few configs from /home/myuser and even had permission issues. -
I prefer workin at the office
I get distracted too easily at home plus i enjoy the drive. Maybe cause a dont hv a proper setup at home. But still i prefer the office -
Power is down in the office. Allegedly it will come back at 4pm. Everyone is doing home office now and I'm here waiting for it to come back.
