I was looking for about a month for a laptop. Then on this one magical day I open kijiji and see a Toshiba Thinkpad T450s with 20gb of ram, 138 ssd and an i5-6300U cpu going fo 500$ (value 2000+).
My first thought was. Okay. Scam alert. But you know. What if?
So I call up this person. And its a girl who got a pc from her bf, but really she wanted a mac so she is selling it.
This straight up blew my mind. I decided, fuck it. Got 500. Ran to her. Ran a systems check on the laptop. Checked for any attempts at opening it up. Checked the harddrive. Checked the ram. Everything is solid.
Long story short. Thank god for apple fangirls!32 -
FUCK MY BOSS WHEN HE SAYS HE DIDNT SEE ANY UI CHANGES AFTER NOT SLEEPING FOR 24HRS TO GET THE ENTIRE BACKEND REWRITE DONE. I WENT OVER THE ACTUAL CHANGES WITH HIM 100 FUCKING TIMES! New neighbor came in yesterday, she cute, and apparently she also goes to the same college as me, though... when she came in last night to thank me she thought I was doing something illegal
Neighbor: "What are those?"
Me: "Lemme ex-"
Neighbor: "Are you doing [hacky hacky uwu]?"
Me: "First before you get the wrong-"
Neighbor: "I'm call-"
Me: "This is a fucking weather sattelite reciever ffs"
[Awkward silence]
Fast forward to today, landlady came in and immediately recognized my weather sattelite rig (I did it for a science fair before I graduated SHS), told neighbor she shouldn't worry because I have stuff like this everyday
God, if it wasn't for our landlady, I would have the police in my ass for neighbors getting the wrong idea...
Seriously nani the fuck16 -
I had just started my new job and deleted 3 years of data that the client had spent over £450,000 collecting 😱
another developer used my PC to quickly access the clients database while I was out the room as I had sql management studio open. I went back to my PC thinking I was connected to my local database, did a few truncate tables to test my software and :0 minutes later I get a call asking why there was no data on the server!
Thank god for backups 😓7 -
this isn't even a tech thing. it just fucking bamboozled me. I overheard a conversation today.
> "duuuude you gotta make a better password that shit is insecure af"
> "bruh i did, i googled it"
> "googled what?"
> "how to make a good password"
> "so how longs your password?"
> "not long, it's bob2"
> "where's your capital?"
> "I made the '2' capital"
> "so you capitalized a number…"
thank god he walked away. he even told him his fucking password. ignorance.10 -
That moment that someone collapses right in front of you and you have no idea of what to do. (Thank God there were people who knew exactly what to do around)
I'm going to take an first aid workshop/course thingy as soon as possible.32 -
Interviewer: (asks technical question)
Me: (answers correctly)
Interviewer: Oh thank God, most of the people we interview fail to answer that. So, on another note do you believe in rubber duck debugging?
Me: yes, ofc
Interviewer: but it's just a toy you know
[I was kinda taken aback]
Me: ...
Me: God is imaginary too you know
Interviewer: (he just laughed)
(So I laughed with him) 😅12 -
Today I told a fellow dev to join devRant, and explained it was "like Reddit, but only for developers"
Wild manager caught us and said "Uh, just what everybody wants, some geek forum. Thank god I left that world a long time ago"
Fucker...6 -
Got a call from a recruiter today. (Keep in mind that using WhatsApp is about a requirement over here.)
R: so can I app you (I hate that word to the fucking point) with further details?
Me: *oh fuck this is gonna get me fucked again* uhm I don't use it so yah...
R: ohhh okay, security reasons?
Me: *slight relief* yes indeed, sir
R: oh fair enough, you can always just text and call me!
*very relieved feeling*
It's for either a cyber security or linux job by the way.29 -
"Oh my God thank you! How'd you fix it?"
I did literally the first thing you always do: unplug that shit and plug it back in.1 -
Seriously fuck mandatory security questions, these are my options:
What year did you meet your spouse?
I'm single.
What is your favorite book as a child?
I didn't have a favorite book. (and still, don't)
In which city did you meet your spouse?
I'm single
What is the first name of the first person you went to prom with?
Didn't go to prom.
Which state did you first visit (outside of your birth state)?
I've been to about 43 states and can't remember when I started traveling, how the fuck am I supposed to know?
In which city was your spouse born?
Again I'm single.
In which city did your oldest sibling get married?
I don't have any siblings.
C'mon, at least let me create my own question because right now I have no choice but to make up random shit and write it down in LastPass as a note.5 -
Finally got a job. The process was quick af! Hired in like a hour.
At least now I can't be homeless.
But I'm getting married Saturday, so this means one thing:
I'm a have to work while on honeymoon hahahah
My girl gonna be pissed but glad that I'm not broke10 -
My laptop just took a full cup of coffee and didn't blink an eye.
Thank god for spill resistant stuff that works.
Unfortunately I now how to make a new coffee, so it's not all good news.16 -
Sometimes I wish my girlfriend was able to write code so we could talk and share our code and thoughts.
Sometimes I thank God she finds it the most boring thing on Earth and we get to talk about other things and decompress.13 -
When half your team uses spaces and the other half tabs... Thank god IDE can convert tabs automatically now but now we are arguing if we should use 2 or 4 spaces. It never ends...34

Never underestimate the power of a decent chair!
Was staying at friend's for a couple weeks with a horrible chair - my back just spasmed so hard that I am physically unable to get up from bed. Thank god for devRant to keep me occupied throughout the night.
Stay safe kids3 -
At Uni, I went from being the only programmer, to the programmer, designer, scene builder, main script writer, minigame designer, project manager, music composer, UI designer and fucking everything else.
We had a team of 4 people. The artist was great and dedicated, the production person was motivated, but lacked any technical skills and my useless fuckwit of a friend wrote literally 3, 2 note midi sound effects in 6 fucking weeks.
Thank fucking god the coordinator and a mate of mine who we got to do the animations, saw the amount I had carried and both led me to getting 2 jobs in the industry right after graduating.4 -
When I had sex in the office and my boss nearly walked in thank god for locked doors
Not techy but there you go...13 -
Ran update query on 1m+ record without where clause. Thank god I missed the commit command or else today would have been my last day.13
-
It was like 9/11 at work this morning. Someone had clicked a link yesterday that recursively encrypted our entire file system. Thank god for backups.6
-
Sometimes I should think twice before committing (Thank god there are no contributors beside me yet)7
-
My previous manager always complained about the programmer that used to be there before me was utterly incompetent and unable to work.
One day checking a legacy app that needed a minor update I was looking at the code and said: “It is true the previous programmer didn’t even know how to put together 2 lines of code, this is literally the shittiest thing I have ever seen, thank God he is not around anymore!”
…
Manager: “Actually I wrote this myself”
…
…5 -
I just experienced the opposite of rant.
I spent 1 entire day ranting about a algorithm I couldn't write with no issues, it occupied all my mind and got me pissed of.
And today, I rewrote it entirely, and it works perfectly everywhere.
I was like : "No it can't work here. Oh ok", "And here's the bug ! No ? Nice.", "Don't tell me it'll work here. I'm a God".
That's why I love being a dev :D
Thank you, you freaking problem I had !7 -
You'd think that with OLED screens becoming the norm for smartphones people would start offering dark themes in their apps to save a bit of battery and prevent burn-ins, but NOPE there comes Google with their material design and everything is suddenly brighter than the sun, especially YouTube where 3/4th of the screen is static most of the time.
Thank God you can still mod things.6 -
Who the fuck doesn't use responsive design. Oh yeah my Job. Thank God I quit Friday. Fuck this old ass dirt company4
-
I knew this guy was pure evil.
Deployment on friday night !
And that too before Christmas.
Thank god Santa doesnt use Tesla5 -
My dad just got his abdominal surgery done. The surgeon was shocked how bad it became. He wasn't expecting it to be this bad. From an expected 1.5h surgery it prolonged to 4.5h... Thank God it went well and my dad is awake now from anesthesia. Now he has to rest in hospital for a few days. I was stressing so much about this. Thank you God🙏🙏🙏🙏☦️☦️☦️❤️❤️❤️❤️11

Continuation of rant https://devrant.com/rants/975261/...
I PASSED THE TEST!!!!! YEAHHHHH
Now only an interview left. Please....
If i fail this interview, no more tries.
Wish me luck.
From this point, all personal projects and requests will stop.6 -
Turns out that dropping all tables on the production database wasn’t such a good idea. 😅
Thank god we had a backup from 10 minutes before it happend.6 -
It definitely helps to not be proud, especially to talk to people.
I was about to refactor something someone did, without understanding their intentions and because I thought it was incorrect.
Thank God I got off my high horse to talk to them first!
If you are shy or bad at approaching people (like me), just force yourself and try.. You will eventually learn to be less hesitant.1 -
My Boss wanted to See the Sourcecode of a Website once. So I opened it.
Boss: what Browser is this?
Me: Mozilla.
Boss: Do you have Firefox?
... thank god IT was only an internship.5 -
Goddamit! Why does hitting Ctrl+Y in android studio is set to delete a line by default? Shouldn't it be redo? Who the fuck designed it? Thank God I can reassign keyboard shortcuts in android studio.10

There was fire in the below ground generator, smoke pulled out, in home, alive. Electricity not coming, hope it gets fixed soon.
Thank god i am alive.
And i managed to save my final year project files.
Yay!8 -
Discovered this awesome community some months ago, and I've finally decided to make an account :D
Guess I should write a rant now.
We were initially a team of 2 to do a 'simple' app with AngularJS, NodeJS and Kendo UI in 2 months.
We had some problems with it, mainly because I'm 'in charge' of a big Java web application filled with legacy code and in process of a 'big change that was planned to be deployed for all users yesterday', and my coworker (also the project analyst) was still learning how Node and Angular work. And I'm not going to lie, I'm still learning new things everyday.
Situation 1 month after our start: coworker fired (due to offtopic reasons), replaced by a younger girl, and me still doing changes in the Java webapp.
Thank god I work better when under big pressure :p2 -
Email: "We just launched our new web interface! It's so much easier to use, and should make life a lot easier for our users."
Me: Oh good this thing has been unusable since I've been working here. How do I get on the new version? Better read on...
"Download this PDF for more information!"
Erm... ok.
In the (20 page) PDF: "Email this address@example.com to get the URL!"
ffs ok
email: "Thank you for emailing us, you username is benoliver999, your password is 'passow0rd' and the url is in this attached PDF
god help me
(50 page) PDF: "Remember to disable pop up blocker, ad-block and to install Flash"
Today I have started building my own version of this product so we can stop using these idiots.
As an aside, the username 'admin' also had a password of 'passow0rd'...4 -
13 fucking USD in shipping for a 9 USD rubber duck? Fuck no.
Spend $2 a month and most likely forget I am now subscribing to devRant++? Yeah, sure. Why not, right?
Seriously though, thank God for this platform, I'm luckily not the only one with struggles..5 -
A while back I feel asleep on the couch on the day of the state of the union address.
My deadass mind heard someone asking what the "state of the unit tests" was and I leaped up and said "there aren't any! i'm sorry, it's only a small project anyway".
Thank god no one else was there... 😂 -
FUCK BITCOIN! YOU CAN'T BY ANY GRAPHICS CARD IN RUSSIA BECAUSE OF THEM! THANK GOD I'M MOVING TO USA12
-
Soo many java script hate posts! Not one post goes by where i thank god that I'm not a front end developer!
PS - I let my intern work on the the UI of my application :P He is on devrant. I hope he sees this! Hehe.3 -
Just found out that Windows has a built in Code Editor. Saves your ass if the only alternative is Notepad!8
-
I've seen many devs doing crazy things in my entire career till now. But this one dude stands out.
He used to:
- Push binaries to git repo
- Use some old libraries which were used during Indus Valley civilization
- Had no sense of database and used to delete random data from it and call it as TESTING (Thank God! I never gave him prod access)
- And on top of this, he had an ass full of attitude!2 -
So this just happened. I was working on a project and I just found a weird directory named '~' in there. I am on Linux so I simply did an "rm -rf ~" :/
It was too late when I realized it deleted all my files in my home directory. All my projects and configuration files. The sad part was it did not delete that shitty random directory because permission denied. Thank God I got into the habit of making weekly backups of my system and Thank God I use git.5 -
Well, the impossible needs to become possible again.
"you will shit out a full website for this customer in two days! Fully responsive, 16 pages, and it better be good!"
Yeah. Ok. Fuck you. My attitude stinks, but your expectations and temperament kind of forge my attitude. Now tell me how in fucks name i am supposed to just stop administering over 3000 users and god only knows the ever growing amount of servers, stop all my server side development, so that I can make a site for a customer paying the company the equivalent of $100 for it (because sales people here are retarded) and get zero fucking commission or even a thank you for it.
Nah. Fuck this.
Tired of complaining, and I'm sure you guys are just as tired of it.6 -
Great. Just FUCKING great. When I was looking at devrant, suddenly some add-ons crashed (correction: ALL add-ons crashed!). All other tabs flooded with ads. I go to the add-ons manager, and what is their SHITTY excuse?
"Starting in Firefox version 57, only extensions built using WebExtensions APIs will work. Not sure if your add-ons are affected? See Firefox add-on technology is modernizing and these Frequently Asked Questions for details."
Anyone of you fuckwits ever heard of LEGACY SUPPORT? Leaving some time so the other devs can adapt to your new brainfart technology?! Even fucking C++ has that. FUCK!
Thank god devrant doesn't have ads.10 -
That moment when you have refactored so much shit, then really broken the project, but can't see yourself doing a git revert because you had invested so much time and know ultimately it *needs* these changes...
Thank god I fixed it! 😌3 -
A guy who's parked next to me in the RV asked me today if I know anything about computers. Sure, what's it about?
He has forgotten his password for a Word .doc file, already installed all possible tools for password cracking, but none of them worked, and now
he can't find his vacation photos and surfing the internet suddenly doesn't work anymore.
Okay, no problem, I'll take a look at it. Windows 7 Home Edition, completely covered with malware, everywhere popups with pr0n ads.
I told him that I can't do much more than trying to recover the data and reinstall the OS. But before that, I'll make a image of the hard drive (thank god, only a 250 GB hdd). Then we'll see.
Unfortunately neither he nor I have a Windows DVD, so he will probably become a proud user of Antergos tomorrow.5 -
the nurse just called to say that my moms heart surgery is done and it went well. shes now sleeping under heavy narcotics and anesthesia in the shock room. thank you GOD and Doctors 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️5
-
Just received a client who wants an updated wordpress theme, Thank God he came to me. I feel sorry that he had to run a site with this font.
Going to the site for the first time gave me goosebumps.12 -
This is how protest against corruption happens in India :|
Thank god, government people know 'C' 😀3 -
Decided to delete devRant and reddit for a few months. Now I'm back, and the first thing that greets me on both is Light Mode 🤢
Thank God that I haven't cancelled my devRant subscription. Once you go black you never go back! 😏3 -
"Some settings are managed by your organisation"
I understand the necessity for companies to be able to remotely manage their devices, but my god, I hate working on company laptops sooo much!!
Fun fact, even Chrome can be managed! The can manage everyting. It's called Microsoft Intune. It sucks!! And fucking 45 day PW change policy! And fuck you, Windows Defender Real-time protection which I can't turn off and It's high CPU consumption. Also fuck you Microsoft Teams for scanning. Every. Single. Link. I. Click. On. From. A. Chat. Before. Redirecting. Me. To. The. Actual. Website. Always takes a couple of seconds. Waste of time. Those accumulate over time you know! AND to Windows Update! You already know what is coming next: stop force-updating while I'm in the middle of fucking meeting! I have shit to do! Another fun fact: you can postpone Windows Update by turning the clock back. LIKE PLAYING AN OLD TIME-BASED STRATEGY GAME ON PC IN 1999. (12h work best.) And this fucking weak ass VPN. WHY I PAY FOR 1Gbps WHEN COMPANY VPN ONLY 10Mbps?!! What Am I? A fucking snail! Go faster!! pls!
But, thank god, we can email shit and open attachments in Outlook.9 -
Thank God the week 233 rants are over - was getting sick of elitist internet losers.
The worst security bug I saw was when I first started work as a dev in Angular almost year ago. Despite the code being a couple of years old, the links to the data on firebase had 0 rules concerning user access, all data basically publicly available, the API keys were uploaded on GitHub, and even the auth guard didn't work. A proper mess that still gives me the night spooks to this day.3 -
Thank god there are no Community Moderators on devRant... I just fucking have StackOverflow/Quora, they just don't let a newbie rise on those platforms... I love this place though.6
-
Go to fucking hell SO!
Question: "How to do X?"
Answer: "You can solve your particular problem without doing X."
God fucking damnit, yeah some noob tried to use X to solve a completely unrelated problem and thank god somebody pointed out a better solution. But since all other questions about doing X are labelled as duplicates of this question, could you dickheads at least provide an actual answer to the question instead of an answer which only works for that particular problem and has nothing to do with X?3 -
Cengage get your shit together.
I'm paying $200 fucking dollars to use your online learning platforms, not actually fucking work. As in don't freeze for 5 seconds after I type 2 letters into your search bar.
Oh and BlackBoard you like of shit. Your text boxes are absolutely fucking broken. Thank God we're ditching you, you pile of shit.7 -
For anyone wondering "rm -rf /" on a jailbroken iOS 12 deletes many of the system apps and services but device is still kind of usable without too many crashes, still managed to set boot nonce and restore (thank god).2
-
Trying to get the name of all objects in an array i made , thank god there is nothing wrong here...3
-
Pretty fucking sure it’s Monday... Critical Server KO’ed during hours... Going to be a long day....
Sucks not having the funds to implement preventative maintenance and redundancy... Thank god for fucking backups.
To the Level C’s in our company.... take this as a wake up call you incompetent, undereducated, no dick-having-ass’, spitfucks!4 -
Is it weird that i enjoy all these rants and the dev's frustration?
it really calms me down whenever i see a long rants, creative insults, excessive swearing
because it reminds me that my situation could be lot worse, thank god I'm not in one of those situations3 -
Protip: don't drink gin and try to install stuff on a client's NAS while logged in as root.
Thank god I changed my mind and decided to do this another time...2 -
Hey guys a couple of months ago I posted asking for help on how to land a remote job. A few weeks ago I got an interview and today I started my first remote job. Thank God and to all of you who suggested help.
-
Not exactly a dev related rant but housing contract expired on 10th, booked a hotel for 2 days as flight to Bangkok on 12th.
I reach there to find it's been cancelled god knows why and didn't think it'd be nice to fuckin mail me about it.
Ended up in a shared room thing coz outside is -8c. Last time I ate was Friday night (today is Sunday evening) last time I had water was yesterday noon, and I've slept without a break for 27 hours.
Wifi they provided doesn't work btw so thank you netgear-ap for your unprotected WiFi.
Flight in 17 hours now. I can bear with it. Wish me luck~3 -
I have code convention OCD.
My team really fucked up the code with their different indentation styles, and it really makes me want to kill them!! 😡😡😠3 -
Nothing sucks worse than being mid jerk off and trying to switch the video, only to find out Pornhub went down for maintenance.
Thank God the hurricane motivated me to stockpile some downloads 😂😂3 -
My idiot friend nearly destroyed his install because of me.
He was complaining to me about some program he was running in terminal writing too much lines to terminal he didn't care about.
So I wrote to him verbatim:
"Just redirect the output to /dev/null by running it like ```cmd > /dev/null```.
Or better yet do ```cmd > /dev/sda``` it will be more fun ;)"
Three minutes later I get a screenshot from him where he's trying to run ```cmd > /dev/sda```, but it keeps saying Permission denied. He's tried to use sudo in the screenshot like million different ways.
Thank god he doesn't know how to use sudo with redirects...12 -
Didn't use windows for over a decade but my refurbished x270 came with it and damn.. They f-ing raped the f outta it. Every action has a kinda lag, nothing is instant. I saw that on my dad's laptop too and thought it was the HD. And why the f can't I smash ctrl+alt+del at boot anymore? It just f-ing ignores. Took a lot of attempts before i found out how to boot from usb. I would not for any $$$ work on windows anymore. Thank God .Net core exists for linux and works great9
-
The school I work at was supposed to implement a new attendance-tracking system. It required teachers to log in to the system using the laptop in each classroom, and mark the attendance.
Oh, and by the way, the same system would be used to track grades.
How would they be sure nobody could get into the system? One student from each class would be chosen to be sure the system is logged out when the teacher leaves!
Thank God they haven't started using this system yet.1 -
Tfw you accidentally chmod'ed the entire root of your cloud server, because you've misplaced a "/".. Thank god, that there is such a thing called a 'backup'.
The amount of sweat and stress I had when the SSH disconnected and I couldn't log back in, the Apache and MySQL services that began to throw failures..
It's on moments like this, that you really appreciate the 24/7 customer-support! 😂
And all this while I was at my job, working for another company.. -
My co-worker, still studying but working as a "senior dev", just decided that we don't need a test/staging environment anymore. We just "validate" (we also don't use the word "test" anymore) newly created features in production.
Makes absolutely sense...
Thank god I have a new job from february on!1 -
Stackoverflow launches a new Dance Dance Authentication. https://m.youtube.com/watch/.... Thank god they didn't build a new Framework.😆😆😆3
-
It's both extremely satisfying and extremely rage-inducing when you learn that an update in the framework breaks your once perfectly functional code for no reason.
Especially when said code is from a sample written by the developers themselves.
Thank god there was a hotfix. -
I just managed to configure a second keyboard to map its keys to separate keycodes. Basically, I should be able to use it as a complete macro deck 😏 Thank god for Linux6
-
Some intellect at Apple thought it would be helpful for macOS to reopen all my previous applications at once after restarting from an improper shutdown. Thank God it's much less annoying nowadays due to SSD load times.
The worst was when Safari was the cause, so Apple reopened it to the same page, and it crashed again. 👏👏2 -
I just experienced near death because of high blood. Super strong blood pressure. Avoid coffee, playing games, and sleeping very late at night. This is my advice as a survivor developer. I want to share this to help you. For fast deadlines or hard user stories, always negotiate reasonably with your SM or PM or PO or client.
Thank God he have me a 2nd chance at life. Take care of your health. Don't worry about deadlines. Health is more important. Always pray. I deleted all of my games especially my beloved call of duty mobile and clash of clans. I'll forget all games that I know because those contributed to my high blood pressure.
When you have a headache or head pressure or eye twitching . Stop what you are currently doing and relax, measure your blood pressure and contact your family asap. Take it seriously. My wife saved me.10 -
This is a follow up to my previous rant where I complained about Lenovo firmware update failing and bricking a relative’s computer.
We bought a chip programmer, got the bios from some forum and the thing fucking worked. I’m actually surprised it did, I’m not used to doing shit like this. I was pretty fucking scared of burning something.
The programmer also came with a clamp so we could hook it to the chip without desoldering it. Thank god.
I’m terribly depressed so good timing with that I guess.1 -
Newscaster on Tv:
"Apple won patent case against Samaung"
Me:
"Thank God! Apple doesn't have Wheel patent or there would be no Ford or Mercedes ... "2 -
Boss: hey can you loop through all the entries in the data base (PHP) to make a menu of everything?
Me: me sure thing, shouldn't be a problem
10 min in playing with the database...and I remove the table...FUCK ME?!!??!!!
good thing we backed up the night before 😂😂1 -
Windows - how can someone possible get something done?
I gave up and are now installing windows for my son so he can install a game that only exists under windows.
Did a clean install, no network drivers found. Looked under device manager and tried to find out what network card there is on his computer. Unknown device :@
Finally found the manufactures dvd, ofcourse we get some bloatware, killer network manager.
Tried to uninstall it, the drivers was also uninstalled. :O Had to install it again and do some googling and finally found some pure drivers. Uninstalled the f*** Killer software again, and then installed the pure drivers. It works :)
Then I tried the speakers ... :@
Thank god my son is in school and can't hear my language right now.13 -
I remember that time when you only needed 200 +1's to get a stress ball and it was achievable in one life, not four.4
-
I just had a boys-out night with my son. Went to some restaurant, found a parking spot in a confusing parking lot (half is more expensive than the other half of the lot, not sure which fee applies to the middle row... confusing), started paying for parking with the app (pays every 15 minutes until stopped).
Went inside, ordered a pizza, some ice cream. Chatting, playing, eating, having fun,... An SMS comes: "You have outstanding fines" and a link to the gov taxes' website.
wtf.. I must have parked in the wrong spot. FUCK! Oh well, it should not be a large fine anyways, it's just for parking....
Click on the link, login with my bank/SmartID creds. Another SmartID dialog pops up asking for a PIN2.
What? PIN1 is for authentication, PIN2 is for Authorization. What am I authorizing...?
Reading through the Auth message: "Paying 2473€ for Boris SomeLastname".
what.....?
Thank God my muscle memory did not kick in and I did not enter that PIN2.
And thank God I know what PIN1 and PIN2 are for.
It would've been one expensive boys-out evening... Even a strip club would've been cheaper.
Stay sharp, guys!
P.S. Later I checked the URL. It used all the right keywords, and it was registered as an .info domain. It was somewhat off, but gov websites trying to be lean do sometimes use some weird ass domains.15 -
Ah fucking hell.
I hate it when my boss goes the path of least resistance to implement something.
Of course declaring a class property with the "any" type (TypeScript) is a fucking lot easier than to properly write an interface for it and declare the property with that type.
Thank god I have holidays, otherwise I would hatepunch his fucking monitor. Twice.2 -
You're gonna use the 3D printer she said… You're gonna learn JavaScript she said… nope, all we learnt was three HTML tags that confused most people1
-
Ok everybody, listen up.
For a long time, even before I knew devrant, I failed an exam and had to retake it. It was, and I think this is fair to say without exageration, the worst thing that had happened to me. Put me deep into an anxiety crysis that it was very difficult to escape from. Months of hard work, at the sacrifice of many other valuable things, helped me to climb out of this hole. It was a struggle, but I finally made it. Earlier today I retook the exam. It was great. Thank you for standing by in this difficult time of my life. We live in a post-thisfuckingexam-time. Many of my rants on here were influenced by this issue. Now they probably wont ever be again. Thank god, and thank me for keeping it up.
Tldr: i wrote an exam today.3 -
Yesterday i realised the importance of documenting everything step by step . I was told to port an driver/application that we made for linux 4.1 to a 4.9 kernel . Eventhough i did already port another similar application to the same , didnt remember what are things that i did.. Thank God ..If not for the constant pestering of my colleagues to document each step.. I would have been stuck in that island for 2 more days ..1

we had a front-end dev that needs to "re-architecure" his codes when we need to add a small change or a feature.
and im like: wtf is wrong with your code and you need to re-architect it every damn time?!
PS: that dev is no longer with us now. thank god.1 -
MacBook/OSX
Have used all kinds of OSes and computers. Nothing sucked the productivity out of me as much a company provided MacBook. Some issues were related to the company setup (vpn issues after sleep, jamf botched app installs). But most of the day to day work was just due to crappy key handling. Lots of shortcuts that work everywhere don't (think all the alt combos in terminal). Common things require combos and using the actual keys (like home and end) on an external keyboard have undefined behaviour. Out of the box it does not even have decent window management, this means that a third party tool has to provide the shortcuts and they clash with a few programs.
Thank god I can use Linux now to develop for Linux.6 -
The company I work for used to be hosted on 3dcart. One day the site went down and their support couldn't tell us why. After over 24 hours of downtime they restored service but left 5 days of all records and customizations across the entire store, from the DB to the damn templates. Their support apologized for the outage blaming the disaster on a combination of hard disk failure and a bad update to their backup script. They were not willing to assist us in any way. We were forced to manually enter 5 days of orders (which gave them new order numbers and caused more problems), products and template changes, with order data coming from an internal email which was luckily CC'd on the order confirmation email. Thank God for whoever setup that CC, it saved our asses. In the end it cost our company thousands of dollars and 3dcart never composited us in any way.2

In one big project I made in past (when I was new developer) every ajax call execute code which looks like: dbquery("SELECT * FROM table WHERE something='".$_POST['value']."'");
That project doesn't exist now (thank god)1 -
So after my hosting my first project and announcing it on devrant, the users pointed out the many security faults and places where the code can be exploited ( thank you so much ). So I started my research on security ( im 99% self-taught ). The first thing I landed across is the code vulnerabilities which the I can fix then the vulnerabilities of the language itself and then binary code to overrun whatever the language it is. Well, the topic gets broader and broader. If I click on a link named xxx vulnerabilities oh god that is a whole new collection of hundeds of wiki like pages. I feel like I'm lost and here I need some real help2

A guy just smashed his head on the keyboard in a slack channel i’m in, likely being drunk
Thank god I was quick enough to tell him to not drink and code. He promptly followed it by „This message has been deleted“ -
Thank god for docker and dockerfiles, I can't stand having to install PHP extensions that require 3 to 4 programs to work properly. Especially if I just have a throwaway script and don't want to install pecl, build scripts and phpize, don't want that shit on my system1

www.piedpiper.com
Oh my God, they made a real website for it !
And thank you guys for letting me watch this awesome TV show1 -
Oh my God I didn't even noticed I crossed 1000++ in just 2 weeks of newly activated me! Over 400++ in fucking 2 WEEEKKKSS!!!
THANK YOU GUYS I LOVE YOU8 -
Oh my god. I woke up and read stan lee was rushed to the hospital. I was actually feeling horribly sad and then I read that he was in stable condition and was like heck yeah!!! No one taking him yet.
-
Virtual box.
I recently had to code sign an app for ios without having a mac at the office or an iphone to test it on. Thank god for virtual machines though1 -
I had a dream that I was dual-booting Linux and Windows together 😨.
Thank God it was just a dream.1 -
When youre hired as a programmer and you miss programming. you code at home Because your work wont let you. Too many documents to create, too many tickets(IT operations) to create and too many phone calls(follow up on IT operations).
It feels like im wasting my days on a job that i dont care. Thank God for self projects.2 -
Thank God for Ctrl+Alt+L in PHPStorm...one guy from our company seemed to like this code style once upon a time:
if ($variable > 0)
{
// stuff
}
else
{
// other stuff
}6 -
Oh thank god for coffee.
Having one of those days where every slight criticism feels like a personal attack (they're not, I have very nice co-workers) and every small task makes me want to just go back to bed because I'm so useless...2 -
Strato. Everything about it. Even leaving as a customer is a pain in the ass.
I want to pay my last invoice (thank god, the only vps hosting ever that is yearly. Bastards) and i forgot my password.
Resetting the password is your customer number (asked everywhere for everything) and your e-mail address.
The thing says 'Het ingevoerde e-mailadres hoort niet bij het klantnummer.' which is dutch for 'Your e-mailaddress is not connected to the customer number'.
Sigh. That fucking customer number. For servers they let you login using the ORDER NUMBER. It's so weird there.
Strato: not even once7 -
so now they even have a name for not being an idiot...
its called a "composible" architecture as apposed to a "monolith"
what if i told you it's all the same?
(i'll even throw in a bonus and say that a "microservice" architecture is still a monolith - because you need all your damn microservices working together for the full product or service anyway!!! and thats a monolith!!!!)
wow, you've "decoupled" your frontend from your backend? with this fancy thing called an "API"? well, what the hell else was anyone doing in the past decade? ITS THE SAME THING YOU DUMBASS
god i swear its 🤡 all the way down, just inventing new words for the same thing over and over again. idiots. idiots everywhere
i'm just so happy we have "composible" architectures now ❤️ thank god for that6 -
The split second feeling of EXECUTE an UPDATE and SET value without putting WHERE clause.
I froze for a moment with cold sweat that I don't know what to do. My mind went blank.
Thank God it is just the entire list of customer details that is not relate to money issue.
Anyone can suggest the best practice for this type of accident UPDATE / DELETE?
Does using BEGIN TRANS ROLLBACK is safer way to execute?5 -
Most web developers don't seem to care at all about ecological footprint and UX/UI impact on people and society, like they never cared about accessibility either, desperately dreaming to work for the Californian oligopoly companies that shaped our current digital infrastructure.
Meanwhile, rivers run dry, forest are burning, people starving and soldiers killing people.
But politics is taboo, even on devrant. Let's post a funny thank-God(?!)-it's-Friday GIF animation instead!?
What kind of people do we want to be?14 -
This project is taking my soul out of me...
Every time I have to change something that has been changed countless times in the past 9 months and every time I see the clusterfuck it is becoming I literally feel my energy being sucked away.
Thank god I'm being interviewed by other companies already...1 -
Out of nowhere my Linux Mint crashed and I can only enter emergency mode. What the hell Mr. Torvalds?
Thank god my home folder is in a separated partition and all my data is on remote git but I am atill very annoyed since the crash was in middle of my tunnel blick.13 -
So, today is the final day of my internship, and I was almost done, until my fucking assface of a client calls me, and suddenly want 10000000 fucking things changed in a database, and I'm not just talking "Could you add this field?" Or make this default to that, no I'm talking change of relationships, schemas and the whole shebang, oh and suddenly the product also needs localization for 3 fucking languages, but it hasn't been built for this shit. Thank God my assessment was yesterday, I just noped right out of here.
People, don't be dicks, think what you want your product to be before starting the development1 -
Most memorable co-worker for me is my senior dev at my first job. He is awesome. He taught me everything and he never complained even if I ask some basic things and never got irritated when I made dumb mistakes.. he just simply explained and ask not to repeat that mistake. He gave me one advice that never ever be egoistic about your code, Yes you can feel proud but don't be like I will never tell or explain to my junior ones. Cause of Him I am good mentor/trainer also :) along with developer. Thank god at my first job he was mentor.
-
God damn I hate that "smart" and "convenient" autoscrolling to focus areas which has kind of exploded on webpages, most of the time just fucking the user over while one is trying to read something or generally use the site.
Pages bouncing all over with shitty response, who the fuck thought that were a great idea, they should've been put in the ground as a Thank you.1 -
First-time goona work on frontend(my worst nightmare).
That too Angular.
That too on a file containing 900 LOC.
That too with no proper naming, variable names x,e, obj.
That too with no comment.
Cant take help as I am the lead(name-sake, small team, I have 6month more experience than others)
I have 2 days(thank god for the weekends).
Fuck...Fuck...I missed writing CLI apps.7 -
imagine how much more intricate https would be without rsa, leaving us with just aes. i mean, youd have to have servers responding with isps, info is easily tracked.
-
I never liked Facebook. I only use it to get posts from the pages on architecture. Yeah, i wanted to be an architect 😅. But after a week of getting into coding, i flipping fell in love with this too. After, i found devrant, i thank god that it exists. Facebook is for people ranting about what their relatives are liking or hating or what, people they don't know, are doing. That's not real. What you guys, the community so wonderful rants about everyday, is the real stuff. I love devrant. I love to code.
Chalo(is about the same as saying,"I'm out"), Good Night peeps 😴.I'm high on sleep.
P.S. didn't proof read the above because high on sleep2 -
Happiness hit me on the first day that we met; he was standing in my feeder with a face I can't forget!
I'm the creator of cheesy references, but I'm also currently waiting for a process to finish, and, before writing this, I tuned into one of my feeder 'cams, and I saw a little male downy woodpecker. This pleases me because I hadn't seen much activity at the feeders since these ones had been hanged, so his presence is very welcome! Thank God for Mr. Downy! -
THANK GOD FOR GIT!
Was trying around new features in new version of a build tool. Tried setting output dir to parent folder (..). Turns out the tool first cleans everything in the output dir, lost all projects...4 -
OMG... I want to thank my mother for changing my diapers for many years, my brother for all the games he no longer plays, my wife for actually making money, my plant for the awesome smell, God for maybe doing something (I guess), thanks @dfox, @trogus, and each one of you guys that deemed my rants worthy of your ++.1

So my gf told me about a job offerin she heard. They're looking for Python dev for a weather website.
Cool sound good.
Thank god I went for a drink with friends that night cause when I mentioned the job...well.
Apparently this dick pays about a 100$ LESS than a MINIMUM wage (not to mention the hostile work environment).
Honestly idk how they even stay afloat. I mean you can make almost DOUBLE working at McDonald's. -
Thank god there are (web) proxies.
The Turkish government is blocking access to many porn sites (which I find kind of ok - to make a barrier for the kids), but then again also German Streaming websites.
They are not blocking most German websites tho. Just the websites in the "illegal to non ethical" category (which I also find kind of OK), but it annoys me.3 -
Recruiter bot just emailed me with some offers, let's take a look...
"Hand-on Experience with SQL and NO-SQL Databases preferably Redux"
Whew! I was worried for a second, thank god they are using a Redux database and not one of those really crappy React databases! I'll really consider applying now.
smh2 -
I recently started on a project, in WP though, but I strongly believe the dev is an imbecile. He's no longer with us (thank god)
Doesn't remove old code, just comments it out, or leave the file there. He loved to use and rewrite plugins, so you can't update them.
I removed this one particular plugin, which seemed to hold the website together, because when I removed it, all the suppressed errors suddenly popped up.
I've used 3 days to clean up the code
Did I say that there's a .scss file for the site, but it's written as normal css and the output .css file has also been changed, so I can't clean the scss file and compile it, because that fucks up the css file =} -
I am working my ass off for past couple of days to set up our new office. Today I got sick and sleep walked most of the time. Thank god my colleague was there with me. I'm home now and took a day off. 🤒🤒😞
-
Oh thank god!
Had an error in my COSMOS project and had no clue what was happening, so apparently cosmos allows you to cast using an interface when declaring variables and comparing yet it doesn't let you cast with an interface when trying to execute a function... The fuck?4 -
thank god, Microsoft decided not to use lignite coal for updating their OS. I was worried to update windows, it used to cause so much smog in the neighbourhood, one uncle even died because of lead poisioning.
now, I can update Windows in peace, no more pollution.9 -
How our MIS/IT department handles problems...
Once upon a time a long time ago, a C level suit opened ransomware from an email with a link in it via Dropbox.
Two years in, even the marketing department, who are all using iMacs for digital media creation, inbound marketing, and website development, and alsohave more common sense than the lowly Excel minions, are still blocked from using Dropbox.
Thank god for Socks5 Proxying and an SSH tunnel to our web server. ;) I can has all the things.1 -
Thank God Wikipedia has now a button to snooze the donation request. It annoyed me a lot getting the message while having donated. Won't donate anymore though. They've raped the English language on purpose by accepting "they" as singular pronoun. "their being here" is valid against to them. I won't donate woke misinformation and Merriam Webster, grow some spine68

I'm working on a open source project and I have a game that I can occasionally play.
What else could I possibly ask?4 -
I kinda missed the continuous struggle around the r8169 driver and Nvidia drivers. Thank god the Arch ISO has this problem too.
These two companies should be fined out of existence, there's no reason not to open source the driver, and this renders the product useless.4 -
Changed the .bashrc of my headless server incorrectly, causing me to get kicked out of my ssh session as soon as I connected… Thank God for scp (learned something new today as well 😂)
-
I remember the day when I mistakenly hit :
# rm -rf /
instead of :
# rm -rf ./
The . changed my day that day. Thank god that the files and configs in the server had a backup in my PC. :P3 -
Alright, epic throwback to high school
-So I'm taking this CS course on java
-Teacher seems legit
-Knows his shit
-Gets the job done
-Introduces the class to an IDE
-Such wow
-I whip out my Eclipse Oxygen (with Hello World preloaded, obviously) like the nerd I am
-Suddenly:
-BlueJ
-Literally the worst editor ever
-And teacher somehow expects us to work in it with git
WTF.
For those of you who have never worked with BlueJ, thank God you haven't.
/end rant
What new languages should I learn? I'm working on C++, but PHP seems fun...11 -
Judging by the amount of bitcoin recovery ad spam here on devrant, there must be a huge amount of people somehow losing their bitcoins on a daily basis.
Thank god those altruistic scammers… *ahem* I mean hackers of course… are there to help.7 -
Quick tip:
When an answer in SO has more upvotes than the question, has so many comments, and has so many explanation, so many code, and so many links, IT HAS A HIGH POSSIBILITY THAT IT IS A TROLL.
God damn i hate when programmers don't have any humor, and leave a comment saying
TROLL. PLEASE STOP THIS. FUCK
Good thing, devRant is full of people who HAS humor. Thank goodness.
tl;dr gone off topic -
Thank God, most of my clients don't understand multithreading.
Just denied a feature
Reason
1 independent task - 6sec
10 independent tasks - 1min1 -
Thank God for devrant. I am literarily fuming right now. Just removed some redundant (or so it seems ) code last week and already suffering the consequencies. Crazy commenting screwed me up really bad.3

Gah I'm so mad at openCV right now. Is so stupid. Why the heck does it's kalman filter implementation accept 'float' as an acceptable type but not 'np.float32' gah gah gah it's so dumb spent half my day on that gah thank God for git diff it saved me cause it worked before and now gahhhhh. Anyway.

I want to thank chatGPT today for writing a GDPR related email for me. I would otherwise cuss the shit out of the douchbags who dare collect my data from god knows where and then require me to opt out of them making money off me.5

Woke up yesterday to find the OS drive failed in my hypervisor.
24 hours later and amazon prime have delivered a new SSD to get back on track.
Thank god for backups, probably going to setup HA now aswell, but great end to a week :(7 -
Today I played with GitHub Actions. Since I couldn't test anything without making a commit and pushing it to GitHub to trigger the workflow, my commit history now chronicles my slow descent into madness. Thank God it's a private repo. I'm gonna squash it if I ever make it public.
This gem is from hour two of my four-hour struggle:6 -
Been struggling with an issue all weekend (it had to go to client today) with no solution and without understanding why it was returning the wrong values.
Arrive this morning to the office and team leader asks me about the issue and gives me a new one with higher priority, so I decide to pass my issue to a junior I work with.
While doing so and explaining everything he should look into, by some magic powers I found the reason for the issue
Thank the rubber ducking god!!! -
Client deletes erp record with a massive amount of aggregate objects. Calls and almost has a nervous breakdown.
Thank god for soft deletes, they make awesome invoices. -
Start a business, it'll be fun they said. One of those days you'll realise that you're in a situation where you'll have to fire a friend from your engineering team, there's no way around it..
People keep on thinking and saying
"You're so lucky, you can choose the clients and the team, and work whenever you want to.."
Yep. Highest highs and lowest lows go hand in hand. Thank god there's both.2 -
- Started learning python
- New semester's about to start in college
...and laptop got recked.
Shows the post screen and crashes and reboots repeatedly. Tried to fix it and now the display doesn't light up and the Hard-Disk makes screeching noise. I didn't even touch the display. HDD maybe.
Removed the HDD and tried to recover it from my friends PC, but it turns out it was already dead. All my data from 1 month ago is gone (thank god for external HDD) and I cannot learn python anymore cause I don't have any backup computer.
I don't even know if I can afford to get it repaired if they say they have to replace the entire motherboard in the laptop.
FUCK!!!4 -
The worst programming mistake I ever did was a using if($true =0) instead of if($true==0) for a betting platform. Due to the assignment operator fault it meant that everyone won irrespective of if they had lost the bet. But thank God I identified the glitch within 5 minutes though it caused quite a damage.3

When you finish a project that abuses vanilla js and canvas for real-time updates on tables generated from drag actions in a graphic (no raphael, paperjs or konvas) and test it in IE 😄
Thank god it's going to be applied in a controlled environment... a real browser can be used 😇 -
Catastrophic Unix failure :(
Full server rebuild ( samba, Apache, cloud) adding back all little tweaks
Thank God for daily backups (full backup restore failed to solve the problem, probably some weird pam issue)
FML 😄 -
Went to college for 4 years learned very basics of everything. Started first job and just learned by doing, thank God for the Internet you can learn everything else you need from there.

Ever got so pissed off at a client that their very thoughts can send you into convulsions. they stalk you through every fucking media with changes; facebook, WhatsApp, sms, calls (thank God not devRant) on a never ending project, then you receive an email from them and as you're about to swing the laptop through the window you realize it's payment confirmation :|2

One company was looking for a developer, so they found my FB profile (yeah, Facebook). They scan my profile and contact me via Messenger and offer me a job. At the same time my previous company was in financial crisis and I'm the only staff left, so I felt so bored.
I give them a visit, then, voila, today is my first day there. Despite a bit far from my home, but it have wonderful workplace and apply good development practices. I'm comfortable here thank God. :)2 -
Internship Memories (cause currently jobless!)
My GM (who is the same as PM) used to bring website projects with only details given from the client is the website name!
So what about the content?
GM: Google it.
So any particular design pattern?
GM: Just find a suitable theme from theme forest.
Now as a developer, how I'm supposed to get content and design? Suppose I got it, but how can I get related materials?
Thank god I left as soon as my internship was over.1 -
I no longer shit and piss. Now all i do is burp and fart. This fever is mad annoying. Where does all the air from inside me come from
Shit piss burp fart... Without context you'd thing this story is related to some pig 🐖
If i was working in the office... Oh God how i would explode from holding in all the burps and farts. Thank Fuck i can work remote now
Also today i was literally working from my bed. Tucked in with warm blankets. Had meeting in my underwear in bed9 -
On interview: do you know SVG?
intern: yes
It turns out that they meant that they know how to select "SVG" as the export format.
Thank god that intern went into the design department and not coding.5 -
Computer does a BSOD right at the end of a tiebreaker competitive overwatch match where the enemy is about to cap the point and win. I'm one of the tanks. Hard reboot and back in the game within 45s. Just barely hold them off in overtime and win the match. Epic!
Thank God for SSDs!4 -
One of my colleague ask me to review other team's code. I saw the code. It's terrible. Importing data from text file based on line break count and 52 'if else's conditions in one function and overall 173 'if else' conditions in one controller class. Fuck after seeing that code, I realize people in my project is more better than others. Thank God.

Switching to Java after several years of c# experience(new project)... and it feels like lobotomy has been performed on both the language/machine and my part - no var keyword(yet), horrible work with the collections (but thank god we have at least the streams), basic things like Long are actual objects(not a value type), strings must be compared with .equals ... and suddenly even simple tasks take me horrendous amount of time.9
-
New developer drop the production database. Thank god the daily backup was made only couple hours before. 3 developers spent the rest of the day recovering the lost data3

Recovering a Raid 1 EXT4 disk to a ZFS disk. Thank god for Adobe programs and their multi million file-based caching files.

That feeling when you find the god damn bug after 2 hours.. however, it made me better understand my code, so thank you tiny bug❤

Please, dear god, is there a browser extension to answer all these shitty cookie/data storage/privacy popups with MY SPECIFIC ANSWER?
As a web dev I understand that websites need cookies, and as a tech company employee I understand that essential cookies as well as functional cookies are okay-ish (most of the time). I just don't want marketing cookies/tracking.
All those extensions just block the popup or block all cookies. This is not what I want!
And why the hell on earth didn't they come up with one single solution for all websites beforehand, so we dont have 6.388.164.341 different popups/bars/notifications/flyouts/drop-ins/overlays???
THIS. IS. JUST. ANNOYING.
Thank you for your attention.6 -
We have company wide communications such as Skype and WebEx, so why the fuck do people feel the need to hold an ad hoc meeting right behind my desk? Thank God for NC headphones.2
-
Thank god for Git. I fucked up my webpage beyond repair and I am not an expert in html div alignments. I pulled in a commit I did an hour ago and at least got the page back to normal. I don't even want to imagine what devs did before the days of source control. D:
Tomorrow will be spent learning how to better follow closing </div> tags. :(4 -
That feeling when you insert the driver disk for a wireless adapter to find they actually do provide Linux drivers!!!!!
Nobody ever provides Linux drivers, this is a god send! Thank you!
That feeling when they don't compile correctly! Damn you! ASUS pls. Halp. You're so close to being amazing. -
Holy shit.
This was an effort to combine Gitlab, Github and Bitbucket with VSCode and git SSH authentication. SSH agent doesn't work, configured, added some code in .bashrc, seems fine. Then there was still ssh-askpass missing.
"ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/bin/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory"
WTF VSCode? Why do I need this crap?
However, installed it. Nevertheless, I'm still asked for my password every time when I synchronize using the GUI. Thank God everything was in docker containers/images. So at least there is no garbage left after every failed attempt.
I don't know how, but I finally made it that at least synchronization using the terminal works without a password.
Took me five hours to do this shit.
Now I just report the bug to Microsoft and then straight to McDonalds. I'm starving.1 -
Started adding new MVC project to main solution at work. Started getting assembly reference errors across the projects during testing. Figured I might as while update the few assemblies that are complaining instead of trying to downgrade to maintain the current state of things. Shouldn't take too long right?....8 hours of staring at configs and running and rerunning nuget commands to get all the versions lined up across 120 projects....thank God we have extensive unit and integration tests...
-
Thank god my 1 day works got saved, I made new folders and transfered few files in those folders,
And then when I got done I deleted it from the side bar view in sublime text. Later on I saw one of new folder and nothinf was there my heart went down, then I thought.
Wait I right clicked it and deleted it. Then quickly rushing my clicks towards recycle bin.
and my breath came back it was there :D -
As someone who isn't very good at actual design or implementing design very well, I usually have to start with a template for admin dashboards on my sites. Which means I have to deal with bootstrap. I've come to life with that fact. But what I can't stand is getting these templates and the HTML is so bad, all I see are flying v's! Don't these people know that you don't need 12 levels of divs? And for fuck's sake, run your code through HTMLTidy! Thank God I didn't pay money for this one.

Opend up my first website project, commits goes back to jan 24 2013 but i think i started coding this project around late 2011 (version 2).
Made with php and i found some interesting TODO's and other stuff, over 1k of handwritten css and right above 10k lines of PHP.
Index.php everywhere (no mod rewrite)
Everything in the www root.
By pixel css.
Thank god this is my own website and not for someone else, think i would be tourtured to death if someone had to maintain this heap of shit. To think of i probobly spent around 1000 hours on all iteration. -
Writing code at work be like:
Hmm okay so if I call this facade looking for an order with a code, and the order can't be found, it will return null. Thank God this bit of code is documented...
Ten minutes later
Why is this not throwing an exception when I pass invalid parameters in...?
Two minutes later
Oh, so this never returns null. If the order isn't found, it returns an empty DTO. Fucking docs.
Seriously, the only thing worse than no documentation is documentation that lies. And that's all I get for my first project at the company, which I am having to do alone. Either no docs, or misleading docs. -
So this is the most idiotic thing I have ever done!
Was resolving an issue in a module in our application on "Test" Instance, instead of uploading file to "Test" I was uploading to "Dev" and I was wondering for the last 2 hours why the hell changes are not working!!!
I need a break, Thank god its half day today... its a rest day now 🙈2 -
That fucking moment when the whole page is shown in German first, but then it decides to show it entirely in Dutch. Thank god, I was able to understand a little bit of Dutch and successfully bought the luggage expandation, because of the few word similarities here and there.
But what if I was someone who does not know Dutch or German?
Well... fuck that person sideways, right Corendon Airlines?
How about you guys decide to fuck yourselves and save us a lot of headaches. Thanks in advance.6 -

If any of you were wondering why all the panic when we keep hearing reports of so few people personally knowing anyone with covid19 symptoms, I think I just figured out why.
So as of yesterday, assume unofficially fatality is 15%. Yesterdays death total was 3861.
If we assume roughly 15% death rate, based on ten days average for a case to recover or die, then the cases that would be recovering today on april 1st would have been infected or started to show symptoms on march 22nd.
At that time there was 32882 cases total in the u.s.
Therefore for april 1st, that would mean by the end of the day today, if the ~15% fatality rate is accurate, there would be at least 4,932 fatalities logged today.
I don't know about you, but here it's almost 9am, not even halfway through the day, and we're already at 4067 deaths.
And now we get to the part where all this shit starts to make sense.
For a long time since this outbreak has started somethings been bugging me and I couldn't place what it was till now.
Why did it seem, no matter how high the numbers climbed, no matter how much this spread 'like the flu', no matter how hard I looked into it, very few people seemed to personally know anyone *in real life* who died or at least came down with this?
I mean we'd all heard the rumors that it was more lethal, and then mums the word, it seemed like media the world over simply except the official "it's only 2% lethal" line. Same as the line about it only infecting people of asian descent.
And it didn't make sense to me why the numbers were so high, and why all the panic if it's just the flu? I knew in the back of my mind it wasn't I just didn't have a specific reason why.
Here it is: This thing is still pretty contagious, but not as contagious as it *could* be with a lower fatality rate. And with a fatality rate at 15%, combine with *just sufficient* spread, it would continue to burn and fester in communities for a year or more until those panic-numbers we see on the news would become a real thing. And then no matter HOW flat we made the curve, it would be x5-x50 times worse than a bad flu.
So we get panic and fake numbers. Because you really don't want to catch this thing. It kills 1 in 6.6. And it spread just enough that it is hard to effectively fight.8 -
Writing automation tools using SSH feels so backwards... Thank God for paramiko and click!
Also GPT4 is a better documentation than Paramiko's. Especially for edge cases!1 -
The main driver behind my use of social media is work meetings. Thank god for no requirement to have camera on.1

My thought process..
a compiler found a type error, oh thank god i was not using python or even worse js. this could have been hard debug error, type do matter huh!. what if compiler was even strict that could have found more error and i could really write even safe code. Ohh may be i should learn/finish Rust
** suddenly conscious slaps in the face**
first finish one project, STOP language hopping ..
Oh! right!1 -
Working on a WordPress site for a client after not touching WordPress in a long time. At least they are minor functionality additions, and thank God for plugins...2

!Rant, story
That one time my brother received a call from some Indian dude that "worked" for Microsoft, who was alerting him about a "virus".
My brother (who was in his mid teens at the time) downloaded a program that the guy linked him to, and consciously installed it to allow the dude to take over his computer. Then, with full power over the computer, guy started doing shady stuff and offered him a one year protection for $99.
Thank God mom knew what was up when he asked for her credit card info...
*facepalm*6 -
This is my story.
So, as you know, I'm a developer and so does all of you, but before I know about devRant, I was stuck with Instagram.
Yup, I was stuck with those instagram memes who was made by those social media manager who doesn't know shit about coding and post shitty memes anyway with those #memes #codingmemes #coding #codememes and all that fucking annoying hashtags.
I hate it. I was stuck with it for two years but thank god for the people who told me about this app.
I love it, but, there is some problems. As you may know this social media was created by developers for developers, and I know that this app users is very supportive for other users because of the same profession, but what if non-devs people found out about this app and start doing job offers and spamming at our feeds.
What could we do?5 -
This summer I have a goal to master web development(nice joke, I know, but you get my point...). Html, CSS, Javacript, Python-Django etc and a website that is getting better all the time. But I have a big problem, something that really bothers me. I lack in understanding. I set up servers following tutorials and God help me if something doesn't work, I use patterns and libraries I barely know what they're made of, technologies that are totally strange to me. Right now, I'm totally confused of whether I need to have my database on a different server, or a dbaas, what the hell do I do if static files pile up etc. What can I do to get myself out of this path? Any books, courses, whatever, that teach not only the how but also the why? Thank you5

My exams in Web Engineering and Distributed Systems at the University were postponed to mid April... Thank God, they would have started next Tuesday and I haven't properly learned. So I got that going for me.2

I'm not hugely into Go, but I do get the appeal behind "only one binary output"
I'm doing C# right and end up with several different DLL files, executables, pdb and json. It's so annoying.
Thank god this is an internal tool, not something that needs to be packaged...9 -
Please don't use OS specific libraries/binaries/build tools...etc
I'm talking to C/C++ users here. once in a while I see something on github maybe im just curios maybe I find your niche code useful but then you use make (who the hell still uses make?) or your library depends on another library than can only be mindlessly installed in a unix environment. and the most obscene of all a solution file...
thank god for rust.14 -
spending hours debugging, hours looking at the error without realizing it is the one =.=
thank god just realize that now -

Does anyone know of any software I can use to monitor a RAID 1 array health. Ideally ild like an email if one of the drives has failed/removed.
On a side note thank god for RAID 😅2 -
spent close to 3 hrs trying to figure out why my server wasn't serving my webpage (consisting of both static files and HTML) only to find out I deleted the content in the base file that all other files were supposed to extend from. Ah! a month's work! Thank God for version control. How did people survive before? 🤔1

Today I made a class to do one simple thing. Duplicate a database entry along with a few of its relationships. At first it didn't make sense to create one class for that but I decided to follow my SOLID gut. It ended up being almost 100 lines long with just one entry function working as a route controller. Thank God for SOLID principles...

Started adding image urls to my database fixture.json for my django project... 57 done... 352 to go.... for the first of 3 different models
why isn't there any consistency in their urls? thank god, there are substances to suffer these parts of development...
so fine, I do what I have to do, for a hopfully thankful community -
* if you don’t know what’s the context, please click on my username and scroll a little bit. I’m that good guy MIS*

Thank god Christmas is coming , but guess what.

FOR FUCK USE the fucking Microsoft Project would ya ?
oh ya and that front-end dude quit.
Not surprising at all because this shit storm seems keep expanding.
Imma quit it after New Years anyway.
Gonna accept ALL the feature request they send me and *mic drop* bye. -
Thank god it's Christmas holidays so i can setup my amazon server for a new site. Normally a admin does it but it's a side project.

Pale pretty long haired Asian women will always be like cats to me. Pretty kitties I want to nuzzle and pet and cuddle because they are so cute 😁
Apparently I've never interacted with shrill bitchy nagging ones. Thank God for small miracles.8 -
-> Change the signature of one function
-> Go around the entire codebase to add that one extra parameter every damn where
-> thank god for IDE's
-> tests still fail
-> realise that mocks are not captured in the previous exercise of combing through the codebase
-> #frustration -
So a teacher supposedly promised to introduce me to "web Scripting" as he called it.
Time to learn and all he does is show me Dreamweaver and copy and paste code from anywhere you can imagine, he literally didn't know anything about code .
I thank God I realized that it was better to learn code .1 -
Windows 10 died. Beyond restore. Beyond system reset. It has been exactly 6 months and 2 days. Thank God I have fucking Ubuntu double boot...
-
Reworking old java apps. Holy shit im gratefull i can use spring boot.
But this code is handsdown awfull. Every file contains more ifs than other words. upto 6 layers deep. Thank god its at least properly commented.
But seriously how did this shit ever pass any QA. All legacy apps around here are a massive pile of if statements.1 -
Omg click once applications are such a royal fucking pain in my ass.
Everything has to be code signed and every manifest much match and if you change anything you better hope to the gods you can use mage and resign that shit and that it will work
Can we just like, stop using it thank you god I hate it2 -
What is your worst project you have worked on ?
Ans) my self, I have worked on CMS project called as Ellis pathway, which is my ever worst project I have worked on. It was developed on the language called omnimark, have you by any chance heard about it ?. Moreover it was used to process XML and the worst nightmare would when XML is 500mb and it is not valid after process. I have spent shit lot of hours fixing XML manually.. I literally fucked my self there. Thank God I somehow managed to quit and move on. -
My search for a solution to mintty terminal compatibility seems to be coming to a close (thank god). I know now that having compatibility with cygwin doesn't make sense as far as I can see. Because it's about mintty not cygwin.
But now I have to figure out how to interface with mintty for setting the non-canonical flag and switching stdin to non blocking mode
Oh boy... It's getting closer!1 -
String char replacement in C++ (according to SO):
Boost - replace_all(str1, str2);
C++ STL - 12 lines of code to iterate over the length of the string and store the result in a <char> vector.
Noooooooope. Thank God for Boost.1 -
trying to figure out why this folder is allowing restricted files formats to run, and finding nothing but 'It's a windows folder' what the hell internet DX my school runs windows and it's in that directory children aren't allowed to mess with, of course it's a damn windows folder, but how can I stop them from running viruses accidentally in that folder without causing windows to stop working
Back to god damn research
Thank you for your time -
Being too careful and always trying to reduce memory and processoe usage might be a bad thing after all. Lengthening development time and inducing more stress on the developer just to reduce resource usage is not very sensible when dealing with small to medium size programs that doesn't deal with big data/file types.
What made me notice this habit in programmers was when I was smashing my head on the keyboard contemplating what method I should use to store the history of outputs for a fucking text based program that has minimal gui elements..
Having ocd as a programmer is a nightmare. But thank god it's not as bad as it was a year ago. I couldn't even read something without repeating the same page over and over again because my stupid brain decided that I was not reading it right. WHAT THE FUCK IS READING IT RIGHT ? Thank god for my psychiatrist and pills. I can atleast work on my projects without wanting to kill myself now ! 😂1 -
There I was trying to figure out how to use Spring to create a restful web service with hibernate. All the while learning more about Java as a language. After many headaches of understanding and configuring thank God I stumbled against Dropwizard.2

Thank God for "Screen" my remote Linux build session is alive in spite of fucking network outages! I'm telling you, when your company doesn't have voltage regulators, network goes down everytime there's an electrical fluctuation!

Oh thank god I can store the updates for fedora 35 until I leave an area populated by weirdo retards who will react to it being installed at least for as long as their scripted responses last !2

Realtors are fucking goons. You find something online to rent. You call them to have a look around. Nah you need to fill out the online form for that. Same person responds in an Email: "You need to contact the current tenant under xxxxx for a visit" The online ad and that would be atleast 5k. Good luck ever making that back with someone who moves again in like 8 months. Thank god I dont have any real estate! Can't afford it anyways.1

Oh my god the only type I'll never ever respect or consider is those bunch of suckers that treat people differently. Say hi with a big smile to managers and not even an eye contact to others (same with those who disrespect waiter, etc.). You can be anything: extrovert/introvert, shy no problem I get it but a coward no thank you.

Yesturday when I got off work I turned my PC off and it installed some updates... Came in the today turned on the PC and the fucking Win 10 instantly crashes with Sadface of Death "could not run critical service"
Recovery does not work as usual... No safe mode no nothing!
Fuck you Microsoft just stop puting your nose in to hardware and fix your fucking software! Now I have to reinstall all of my development tools and other work related shit... Thank god I pushed my changes! -
I visit the website where every major block has a dashed grid around it. I can move grids, but it doesn’t change anything else. They’re just… there. Victoria Arduino, VP of Deception, sporting her iconic lesbian-esque look. A picture of a white glove, the evidence, with RICH BITCH RICH BITCH RICH BITCH RICH BITCH RICH BITCH RICH BITCH RICH BITCH DIDN’T PAY. “I didn’t sleep, the black sauce almost ruined the evidence, thank GOD I sent it in time”.2

Bob the builder
Bob the builder sucks
This show is about Bob and his friends fixing things and going on adventures
Bob is an idiot
Wendy is awful.
Scoop is annoying.
Muck is stupid.

The fact that 2 devs complain about node-sass sequentially on my feed says a lot about node-sass.
Thank God for --insert-something-enjoyable- in the comments please.1 -
xcode is so fucking stupid sometimes. I just spend 2 hours trying to make a build for appstore.
It had managed to save 2 different provisioning profiles, both invalid, and it couldn't decide which one to use. Nothing in xcode indicates this.
Thank God you can edit the project file in sublime -
I was shitting. Shit drops from my asshole and then out of nowhere SPLASHHHHHH my asshole ass and balls got wet from the huge nagasaki nuclear bomb impact. Thank God it's not diarrhea. Otherwise it would be tuff to clean it. Now i just clean the water off my balls with toilet paper. I'm always in a shitty situation!2

Thank God for Authy app!
Lost phone and was able to get all my 2FA accounts linked up in seconds.
