My classmates are such hypocrites. They pretend to be programmers, but they can't fool me.
"Oh sorry. I can't show you the result of my html code. I have to compile it first, but there's no WiFi."
There's so many things wrong with that.39 -
A: So are you the programmers of this software?
B: Yeah, I did the front end
A: Oh it looks so fantastic! It is simple, yet beautiful and responsive. Truly great design, you are so talented!
C: I did the back end...
A: Oh, you mean the server stuff?
C: Yeah
A: Niceeee11 -
Today (as a joke), I asked my class if there were any “professional HTML programmers” who could help me.
Surprisingly a couple people came over with smirks on their face. I thought they were going along with the joke.
Turns out, they were serious. They legitimately believed that they were professional HTML programmers and talked to me in such a condescending way that I was speechless.
“This is called a file. See that part after the dot? That’s what makes it HTML. HTML is an incredibly hard programming language and powers CPUs and the computer that you are using.”
I didn’t know how to respond. Hopefully they were joking.9 -
This was at a hackathon which my study organises yearly. It's a 24 hours challenge and you've got to work in teams. It's always from 12 (noon) to 12 (noon the other day).
Another group of programmers was pulling their hair out because of their code not working, it kept crashing and they didn't see it after more than an hour (half of the team had difficulties with keeping their eyes open and it was about 3-4am so we were already programming nearly non stop for about 15-16 hours).
Walked by and offered to take a look:
"YES PLEASE FUCKING HELP"
Took a look and about two seconds later:
"oh you're missing a hashtag there *points*"
All programmers at once: MOTHERFUCKER! (or in Dutch: GODVERDOMME!) (motherfucker contextualizes the situation better imo)
I think I made their entire hackathon at that moment 😊25 -
Real programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.24
-
Manager: Hey, this is Junior. he will work with you from now on.
Me: Oh cool, we could use some help.
(moments later...)
Junior: Hey i got this error. Im new with this engine. sorry.
Me: It cool, then you should read the documentation first. its all there. including your error.
Junior: whats documentation?
Me: ...
For all the cunts ever existed! what do they teach to programmers in college these days?!16 -
A group of programmers and marketers were traveling to a trade show on a train. Each of the marketers had bought a ticket, but the programmers had only bought one ticket for the lot of them.
One of the programmers was keeping a lookout, and when the conductor neared their car he called out "The conductor's coming!" and all of the programmers piled into the train's lavatory and closed the door. The conductor took the tickets of all of the marketers, and then knocked on the lavatory door and called "Ticket please." The programmers slid their ticket under the door, and the conductor took it and left.
The programmers were laughing at the marketers for the rest of the trip, and the marketers felt like idiots.
On the way back, the marketers decided they would use the same trick and only bought one ticket for them. But this time, the programmers didn't buy a single ticket! Again, one of the programmers kept a lookout for the conductor. When he called "Conductor coming!" all of the programmers piled into one lavatory, and all of the marketers shut themselves into another lavatory.
One programmer came back out of his lavatory, knocked on the other door, and said "Ticket please!"6 -
no profession has the kind of online communities like developers and programmers,
why?
we haven't built it for them ^_^
This is fact.3 -
programming languages are not designed to talk to computers, they are designed to be readable by other programmers.
please code like it.7 -
Guy: I don't understand how people could actually learn or work as programmers.. It's so boring.
Me: have you ever programmed before?
Guy: yes
Me: what language?
Guy: matlab
I punched him in the face and kicked him in the balls. Actually just I thought about it. Maybe 3 hours later.17 -

18. "It worked yesterday."
17. "How is that possible?"

12. "You must have the wrong version."
11. "It's just some unlucky coincidence."
10. "I can't test everything!"
9. "THIS can't be the source of THAT."
8. "It works, but it hasn't been tested."
7. "Somebody must have changed my code."

4. "You can't use that version on your system."

2. "Where were you when the program blew up?"
And the Number One reply by programmers when their programs don't work:
1. "It works on my machine."10 -
A wise man once said:
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.
😂😁10 -
Designer: The design is done and approved by you. Set the launch date. We just need to put some code behind it and the shop project is finished.
After the meeting the programmers heard what the designer said to the customer in the meeting.
Programmer: *facepalm*
PM: *facepalm*6 -
When i was studying Engineering, I used to wonder how programmers works straight 3,4 days without sleep and all.
With today, I completed my 3rd day, with just 2 hours sleep in the last 70 hours.
Now I get it,
This is.. passion,
This is.. love,
This is Life.16 -
Guys! It's 'code' NOT 'codes'.
I check the newbie's code. [correct]
I check the newbie's codes. [not correct]
Programmers write 'code'. It's an uncountable noun so we cannot pluralize it.
Spies use 'codes'.15 -
I'm so fucking tired of all these "teach kids to code" and "everyone can code" shit.
It's genuinely not for everyone. Some people are not meant to code, so stop trying to force it down everyone's throat because we're going to end up with a lot of people doing it because of a nice job and shit, not because they want to.
I get many of these programs and shit are to expose people to it and all, but fucking hell stop trying to make everyone fucking programmers23 -
Hate it when i spend hours upon hours implementing an algorithm/program (in C++ btw) and whenever I show it to someone... They r like
Them: Huh... Spent so much time to display JUST that?!
😭😭
Well... Only programmers understand the amount of time required to get things done...9 -
To all the C++ programmers who haven't read "Modern C++ Design" by Andrei Alexandrescu yet, READ IT! Its great. To me, it opened up an entirely new approach to designing classes with a whole new dimension of possibilities. And it reads really well! Sometimes I got shivers because the code was so sexy 😅😂😂14
-
That fealling when your in a social dinner with friends (non programmers or techies) and everyone has great histories about work situations... and then you try to tell your history... and then you think about it.. and then you give up because no one will be so excited about some major bug you solved8
-
There should be a TV show where junior programmers make a software and then one famous senior programmer finds bugs, yell at them and fixes it. The name of the show will be "Coding nightmares".15

Conversations between 2 java programmers.
Me: How it's possible that your code works?
Frank: I don't know. I try 10 times, and each time, I get an error.
Then I take a break...
Eat a humburger, play ping pong, drink coffee.
Me: That's it?
Frank: Yes
Me: I need a break...3 -
Who said programmers cannot solve hardware problems?
My router just said "Check hardware connection of your WAN port"
I took the cable out, blew in the socket and put it back in.
My internet is back in action.3 -
I was a little startled when I saw posts with images of google searches with "programmers are..."
So I tried it for myself.. nothing to worry about11 -
Q: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: 35. One to actually change the bulb and 34 to say after the fact, "I could have done that better."11 -
How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
None. They just change the environment to dark.1 -
Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand.
So far, this is my inspiration to refactoring the code right after it works as gift to my future self.8 -
My grandfather just came over for christmas eve and asked me what this devRant thing I was looking at was.
I told him it was facebook but for programmers 😆6 -

I love the fact that some programmers will put there heart and soul into a project and spend there entire life working on it to only have no recognition or earn a single cent.
Yet the man who invented toilet paper literally wiped his ass and made millions...
I love how the world works! :-D5 -
What was the biggest lies you heard about programming or programmers life.
Mine was: “programming is easy and high paying job.”
No it is not.12 -
The 256th day of every year is celebrated as Programmers’ Day.
Interestingly, 256 is the highest power of two that is less than 365.
It falls on September 13 during common years and September 12 in leap years.
This day is an international professional day recognized in many companies and organizations.
It’s even officially recognized in Russia as the “Day of the Programmer.”3 -
I always grew up with the "programmers are wizards" idea in mind. Of course, I understood it was just a joke. But on my first day in university I went to my first CS class... And my professor looked exactly like a wizard.2
-
LED! Please, embedded programmers: STOP blinking LEDs, if you don't require immediate attention!!
That phone that would blink through the night charging, I had to put a blanket on it D:<<11 -
Am I only one thinking that Linux is kind ok cliche among programmers. Some of them brag about using Ubuntu over Windows like it makes you a better programmer. I have seen brilliant Windows developers and shitty Linux developers. My point is not that Windows is better, just stop bragging that you are using Ubuntu, it does not make you smart or better than others.20
-
"There’s a subtle reason that programmers always want to throw away the code and start over. The reason is that they think the old code is a mess. […] The reason that they think the old code is a mess is because of a cardinal, fundamental law of programming: It’s harder to read code than to write it." - Joel Spolsky8

Advice to all new programmers, take this one from personal experience. DO NOT PUT SWEAR WORDS IN DEBUG STATEMENTS.
You will miss one, it will go to production and it will get picked up by your log monitoring...2 -
Yesterday my boss saw me getting my 4th cup of coffee and asked: Isn't that a bit much?
Me: Didn't you know? Programmers run on coffee and pizza.
Him: I allways thought it was cigarettes and (something I don't remember...)
Me:... '-.-12 -
Okay, I love programming - making my code better faster more readable^^ but I am not a nerd, I have no idea what's going on in star wars or star trek, I do not fucking care about Game of Thrones - I prefer to go out in some clubs and so... I hate it when people are so fucking surprised about my job and interests.
There are programmers who are not nerds live with it!21 -
Just found out out what people google about programmers...
the last one made my day. I think it was this feeling called "funny" hahajoke/meme google society made my day programmers what is 'feeling' we have no feelings *grr want brains!!* scared af is my boss using google3 -
I ’m kinda jealous of English programmers. How cool must it be to have all the common characters for programming fit onto a single modifier, and to have all special characters for default vim keybindings available with shift. On a hungarian keyboard, braces and square brackets are both AltGr-bound, but parentheses are shift-bound. Oh, and the semicolon is AltGr + the key right above it, so it breaks touch typing.21

Inherited project from another company that the owner wants updated rather than rebuilt.
The comments could write a programmers joke book as you can tell it's been passed between multiple developers.
This is a literal excerpt
//Not sure why this line needs to be here but it breaks without it
//Nope I don't know either
//FFS now I have to deal with this. Thanks guys :/2 -
How does programming influence a programmers daily life?
1. We start counting from zero.
2. We observe software more than using it. What is the algorithm behind it? Which Data structure is used?
3. Greeting people with "hello world".
4. Assigning variables to people.12 -
Company that has tech != Tech company.
The amount of "Hey fellow programmers" I get from marketers of all people is cringeworthy. No amount of blockchain in your sentences will magically convince me you know anything about it. -
Foday my father argued with me that:
* "HTML programmers" get payed a lot
* WordPress is awesome
* wordpress programmers get payed a lot
* WordPress doesn't need to be secure
* FileMaker is 100% virus-free (probably malware free), because not many people use it
* UX and UI design are exactly the same6 -
It's just sick how managers boast about how their programmers aren't getting sleep enough/at all due to nonstop coding.
That's not actually something to be proud of, CAUSE IT SHOWS HOW INEFFICIENT YOU ARE AT, I don't know... MANAGING?4 -
Hey!
I'm new to devRant
I did not thought that there would be any community where people would speak a programmer's language (read humour) and would be so supportive and encouraging about almost anything. reddit is too informal and stackoverflow, too formal. devRant falls in the Goldilocks zone for programmers. Feels just right!
Thank You for making it so awesome!9 -

So I persuaded my boss to buy me 2 extra wide monitors (2560x1080).
They're way to big and my neck hurts. After few months, I stopped using edges, and keep all my editors and browsers in the center of my viewpoint, leaving edges empty.
My desk is also too small, and I don't have space for anything else other than monitors.
We programmers have it rough :(6 -
Friends' Boss: You're one of the programmers, right?
Friend: Yes sir.
Boss: I need you to fix this layout problem for me.
Friend: But sir, I'm a back end programmer, I hardly know anything about style stuff...
Boss: You're a programmer, you'll figure it out.
That's not how it works, that's not how any of this works.1 -
What the F**K? Why Marketing department always think they know better than IT Department? They always tell us "What so difficult to do this thing? You guys must have templates and change a few things!"
Let me give you some insight here, that this guy is the guy who buy website templates from programmers, change things and upload the site to Bluehost or Wordpress, That's all he do.
Our Software Archictect, colleagues and I personally went from "What the f***?" to "Are you f**king Kidding Me? "
Sometimes I just want to tell him this "Hey you mother f**ker, based on your f**king statement , why would you need programmers then? You guys can just buy the templates and change things".....
F**k you Marketing Department!5 -
* had to share * read it on a tutorial website *
Remember that everyone makes mistakes.
Programmers are like magicians who fool everyone into thinking they are perfect and never wrong, but it's all an act. They make mistakes all the time.1 -
It is time. I have to admit it.
I don't understand Git.
I just memorized some basic commands: git commit, git push, git push -u origin master, git clone, git checkout [-B], git merge. That's it, that's the full list. I use them like they're some kind of magic spells that do what I need. Everything else, those intricacies like rebasing, resetting, HEAD and all that shit, is beyond me.
I'm not a real programmer. Real programmers know Git.30 -
Overheard a conversation between programmers:
.... Your dirty hack finally caught up with you!
.. it is responsible for bug A, B , .. E ... F..
That "temp" code was not touched in years.3 -
So some programmers (specially C programmers, it seems) have this terrible habit of writing very short-named variables. Then in order to understand the code, you need to decipher the meaning of each variable. Example:
```
unsigned int i, n, h, mw, my, ty;
```
This is from one of the "Suckless" projects by the way. They pride themselves in having small number of code lines so this is probably why.24 -
Stack overflow is overrated
With that I mean that a lot of people think that stack overflow is the best thing that every programmer has and can't live without it. That if stack overflow is down, nobody is able to write a single line without bugs. That 47.24% of a programmers time is spent searching on stack overflow. Sure, it is helpful for finding answers, and some are very good at explaining stuff, but it's not essential. I made an account when I started coding, because it "sure is the most important thing, right?", but the only thing I have done with it is changing the profile picture, because I simply don't use stack overflow that much. When I search my problems on Google, I mostly find the answer on some specific forum for that library I'm using, or more often, in the official documentation for it, no need for stack overflow. I'm not trying to say that it is not useful at all or that it should be taken down because nobody uses it, but that it is not essential in every programmers life.9 -
I'm a newbie in programming, just past the very basics and all. Which is why I am a bit frustrated when i see programmers use stack overflow. I barely even understand it.😏9
-
Q: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb ?
A: None, that's a hardware problem.
*badum tsss* -
I wonder how programmers make money. And found this answer
One creates Bugs and other fixes it.
Love this programming world 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩2 -
Either it Works or It Doesn't. 😈
There's no in-between for programmers.

I don't know if it's the new generation of programmers or what but it irritates me how people recommend JavaScript/Node for solving almost any type of problem these days. JavaScript is nice, but come on...12

Most hobbies need funding to get started and to continue. Wood to carve, cables and electronics to solder. Programmers need only their time (as long as they have a computer). It is the most cheap thing to pick up and learn.9
-
Today is international programmers day and I found devrant stickers in my postbox. Could it be any better?2
-
I just saw an article on Fossbytes about devrant! Great to see it get recognition!
http://fossbytes.com/devrant-app-fo...6 -
I feel like Stackoverflow is a fastfood for programmers mind. It gives you a solution you starve for. It may be not the best quality, but it works for now. It does not satisfy you in a long run, and may be too shallow for advancing. But it works and gives you more to think about.
I would never find a quick solution to parse a string with regex. I never thought it works this way. But hey, I'm happy.9 -
How Real programmers code :
Pfff real programmers use a puppy and have it chase a frisbee where the frisbee hits a flower disrupting a bees honey sucking so it goes home to beat it's wife which again the wife bee gets pissed off and stings my dumb client who mashes some buttons on a keyboard by mistake whilst using my software which fucks up my program and I have to tell him that my program is fine and if he didn't try walking in the garden holding his laptop because of his poor WiFi connection then all of this wouldn't've happened.1 -
Wow I can't believe how well this infographic nailed it.... I feel a bit naked like it read my soul...😮

When they are fumigating the office and the boss says they need to spray some more around the programmers desks.
Gotta love it when your boss has a sense of humour.1 -
It's really annoying when "programmers" who have only worked on one language/framework defend it as superior against any other framework. If you haven't tried Rails, how the fuck can you say Express is better? $;:&/@:$).
PS: if you've tried both and you like Express over Rails, I have nothing against you :)1 -
the more time I spend in this industry, the more I come to realize that it's a very blurry line between PROGRAMMING and CONFIGURING.
How much programming do you do these days, really? Isn't it just configuring your frameworks and libraries and engines to do what they do in the way you want?
Does it still make you programmers...?
And then what are these .conf files for your application? A declarative configuration for your... imperative configuration...?20 -
As long as the couch does what it should and is stable, I think it's a good code. Programming means knowing what the computer does before it knows it.
Heaven for programmers:2 -
I wish the Congress would run all legislation by a team of programmers. Regardless of political leanings one thing is indisputable: We are very keen when it comes to finding bugs in a piece of code -- especially if we didn't write said code!
After all: What is the law if not code for people instead of processors?5 -
Code comments #1: A way to document bad code that wasn't reduced to it's essentials and thus unreadable. Bad.
Code comments #2: A way to explain for non-programmers how the code works. Wrong place.
Code comments #3: Company policy. No one really knows why, but others do that, so we better do it to. The management sucks.
Code comments #4: Because some hip methodology/guru describes how to document code. After a few years, when the methodology has been (unofficially) forgotten, everyone still comments the code the same way. The old management sucked.
Code comments 5#: For insecure programmers who want to convince them self they understand the code they've written. Maybe apply at McDo?
Code comments #6: Some programmers are apparently paid by lines of code. Possibly understandable.
// Comments, anyone?8 -
After many years... I truly believe that non IT people belive that this is how programmers work:
- Goodmorning computer. How are you? Can you make me a program? I want the program to include an userfriendly userinterface, database, optimized code, documentation and dont forget that i dont want any bugs! Thanks computer. I'll get back to you when my coffee is ready.3 -
"It is practically impossible to teach good programming style to students that have had prior exposure to BASIC. As potential programmers, they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration." - E. W. Dijkstra
-
Int main()
{
cout << "Hello Devrant!";
return 0;
}
My computer professor has told us our future grades depend on who ever can beat him at soul caliber 6 when it comes out.
Are all programmers this goofy?2 -
How many programmers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
It doesn't matter. Its a hardware problem not a software problem...1 -
I just want to make it clear to all of us here...
Not every goddamn thing is a bug from X or a bug from Y most of the time I, Us, We as programmers fucking make mistakes or don't know the issue because it's vague!!! IT'S NOT A FUCKING BUG!!!2 -
Shit programmers annoy me... But It looks like I can make money from that....
P.s a website should never take 15 seconds to load .... Crazy5 -
I've been wondering this for a while now, but how are senior programmers able to (or at least seem to) remember all the code for all the different languages with all the different syntax?
Let me explain: From my experience there's usually two types of thinkers, there's the memorizers, and the logical thinkers. Its usually the difference between people good at history and people good at math. So considering that most programmers would need to be able to think logically (to problem solve obviously), how do they remember all this different code? I always forget the small details which I have to look back at earlier code to see how it was done (Especially annoying for written exams where we have to remember all the code and how to use it)7 -
Code FUCKING Rape!!! that kids is when companies throw lots of creative and talented programmers / coders / developers at a system and say FIX IT!
-
Could this be the programmers life +dating a programming language and for food add especially coffee. I feel it applies to me in a way.1
-
Our PM wanted us to do a massive refactor of our Codebase. He gave it 1 Story Point ( or in his words :"Small T-Shirt size") since it was just a refactor, what could Go wrong ?
Answer: Everything . WE needed 2 Months to get Everything up to standart (how he saw it) and 2 of the programmers just quit because they were getting yelled at for Not refactoring fast enough9 -
I swear I hate seeing these wannabe programmers sharing their shit content on social media. I mean, I respect people who are getting into programming and giving it their best. But one just doesn't write "Fuck Types" when talking about a Dart. I mean, atleast open the introduction page of that language before you jump and start giving people "pro tips". Stop skimming over technologies/languages and dive a bit deep to understand how it works.9
-
My partner asking me about the code he's working on. This is what happens when two programmers date each other. This was more of an issue when we were both in college, but it still sometimes comes up on occasion.4
-
I've been said during college that I have to use an IDE for programming. It was okay.
When I got my first job I was said that true programmers use Sublime text or Notepad++. It was okay.
I just discovered vim + tmux and I don't understand how I've never been told about this. I'm the happier person ever.7 -

To any games programmers here (I feel so lonely surrounded by these Web devs)
If I tree falls in a scene with no audio listeners does it still make a sound...4 -
Black Friday is the time where you consider to buy a new laptop and finds that laptop companies don't know how to make one for programmers. Either they are shit or they are gamer laptop that have 2~4 GB of video memory you will never use and costs thousands of dollars.
Is it hard to make one with good CPU, RAM and a SSD without concluding that you are a hardcore gamer and you need an expensive video card along with it?8 -

Me: So what does this mean in the JSON response and why isn’t it a JSON collection?
Dynamics guys: that represents the days of the week. Because that is how it comes out of Microsoft Dynamics.
I’m thinking that they are either bad rest API programmers MS is bad at JSON. I can’t see the code so I don’t know which. No fixes because budget.13 -
Why is it that other programmers think I’m a wizard when they’ve been struggling with an error in their project for hours and I just read their error messages and tell them where the error is/what they need to do/fix?2

So I saw this argument between two intellectual titans on Quora about C vs C++. It was pretty amusing lol.
First Guy: “C programmers are the Amish! They’re afraid of change. C++ is a better C because it repairs it insufficiencies like classes and namespaces.”
Second guy: “C is fairly consistent, while C++ is inconsistent in many places. It performs so many allocations without you even knowing it. It’s complexity is very distracting !”10 -
why do so many programmers have so little regard for grammar/syntax, spelling and formatting when it comes to written communication?? it's not as though you can get away with ignoring their analogues when coding!4

REAL Programmers Don't //COMMENT their </CODE>.
If it was HARD to WRITE
It Should be HARD to UNDERSTAND
Comment if you "Agreed"8 -
Programmers life reaching final day! [Spanish comic] [Don't need to know Spanish to understand] it only say the day of the weeks... you gotta understand

I hate it when (Java) programmers produce such clutter just because their OOP 101 professor told them to do so in 2005.
I refactored it using `git rm`.12 -
I have a dream that I will find a group of programmers that enjoy their craft and we are able to bond together and create the coolest shit we want and monetize it. We will inspire programmers to overthrow corporate America. We will all live in a big house and everyone will have their different hobbies and we can learn from each other and work on whatever we want to do each day. We will have unlimited dried mangoes, chocolate chips, and chips n salsa. We will create a kingdom.7

Wondering how many of you have ADD/ADHD, diagnosed or not. I've heard people say that many programmers have ADD or ADHD and that it generally makes them a better programmer. I myself have ADD and I feel like it makes me a better programmer, but I have to work harder at paying attention to my wife/social life.24

Space Age, the expansion for THE game for programmers, Factorio, will be out tomorrow.
Who else will be playing the shit out of it?9 -
Normal people: "It was a beautiful day today!"
Programmers: "My desktop wallpaper rotates through several beautiful days." -
So how many programmers it take to screw in a lightbulb?
- None
( Lightbulb is a class which got method screw(), so it can screw itself 😉 ) -
Having to explain to non-programmers why devrant uses ++ and -- for invited and down votes....Same as explaining why they named it C++

Any Haskell programmers here?
I started to learn this language for fun two days ago and so far I find it absolutely amazing and really different to OOP languages. Most of the time the solutions make so much sense, but actually coding them requires really abstract thinking of the problem. How fast did you learn Haskell? How long it took you do code it comfortably? Any advises you can give me? I work mainly through a uni exercise sheet from a friend from a different uni, and the rest is hoogle and google :P10 -
I always get a kick out of it when I get to read a hilarious email that was sent in to customer service about our product where the customer is so pissed that they curse everyone out and then they call out the programmers too. "You should fire all your programmers too, they suuckk!!!"1

I'm sorry but Laravel is for brainless programmers who wants to be spoon feed all the time.
Laravel is maybe fast to develop and easy to understand but its only because it is poorly designed/written.
That damn Eloquent, if misuse by ignorant or amateur programmer, will definitely bring a disaster to the whole system.23 -
How many programmers does it take to kill a cockroach?
Two: one holds, the other installs Windows on it.6 -
How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
64
One that fixes the problem and doesn’t care it’s a hardware problem
60 that later states how it could have been done differently and in a more efficient way
And three that continue on the thread discussing how the light bulb is not needed as it’s possible to create a perfect map of the room and how that could be achieved2 -
These are the programmers who I had encountered and detest intensely:
1. Programmers who addicted to take other programmers' failure as an achievement.
2. Programmers who are overly arrogant. (Hey just because you know something , that don't make you a God)
3. Programmers who stealing my code without crediting me, and yet he got paid.
4. Programmers who discourage new developers.
5. Programmers who can't take criticism (Once I told a dev that his code is not clean as he decided to name the variable like __fuckingFuckingFuckningVar = "Fuck"; , he yelled at me that i am a MF. Which it's completely childish in my opinion, as a software engineer, I think programme a clean code for easy maintain and understandable for others, it is a responsibility.)
6. Programmers who compare me with others.
7. Programmers who are not friendly. (Don't be like Stackoverflow).13 -
Design patterns are not a catalogue for programmers problems.
The amount of brainless coders that just slap around these patterns because they were taught that it will magically solve everything is amazing.5 -
God, I hate python and its ecosystem with a passion! I feel like because of it being so popular amongst non-programmers 99% of the python code one has to deal with is just plain garbage. Also, fuck your shitload of dependencies who all fail to install!4
-
Why is it so hard to convice coworkers (other programmers) to use source control? Yes it's an extra step every day or so but it can be so helpful and save so much more time tracking down versions and when the bug first appeared. Also, piece of mind if your computer every gets hosed.7
-
Programmers -- Civilization depends on us in ways it doesn't understand. In ways we don't yet understand.3
-
Yesterday was the first day of an "Advanced" C programming class. I looked at the first homework afterwards and saw this:
NEVER use 'assert'. Real programmers don't use assert in big software projects because it makes your code stop.
Who the... What... How... Why would you...
*sigh* it's going to be a long two months.5 -
Don't you just hate it when you have some of the best programmers in the office with you, but none of them can fucking spell! Imagine having to spend more time decoding comments than actual code8
-
I think the author of Mythical Man Month would be interested to see how wildly popular devRant has become. Maybe we are all optimists when we start out programming, but once you expose us to clients, PMs and deadlines. Well.. we're going to need somewhere to rant.
(and in case you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading it):
All programmers are optimists. Perhaps this modern sorcery especially attracts those who believe in happy endings and fairy godmothers. Perhaps the hundreds of nitty frustrations drive away all but those who habitually focus on the end goal. Perhaps it is merely that computers are young, programmers are younger, and the young are always optimists. But however the selection process works, the result is indisputable: 'This time it will surely run,' or 'I just found the last bug'
( The Mythical Man Month ).

Anyone else feel this 50/50 male/female work melarky is just silly. Most programmers are men. It shouldn't be more complex then that. Most beautitions are women. Nothing wrong with work being gender dominated... imo20
-
Just had to debug a piece of code for the 5th time today and I'm starting to lose my mind. Why do programmers insist on using single-letter variable names?! Is it really that hard to come up with something more descriptive? I mean, I get it, "x" is easy to type, but so is "counter" or "iterations". Does anyone else feel like they're just constantly fighting a losing battle against the entropy of poorly written code?22
-
If I had to name one attribute that dominates the software engineering ecosystem, it would be “arrogance” especially among young programmers. I think software engineering would be a much better place to work if people were more empathetic than being ginormous assholes trying to have a leg up over all their peers. Collaboration is much more rewarding than competition. It feeds your soul and feels a lot more natural.
Collaboration over Competition.
Have a peaceful day at work guys!5 -
What keeps programmers interested in programming? Does solving new problems always stimulate your dev soul as much as it used to, or are we all doomed to find our jobs uninteresting after a short while?7
-
I go to the reddit programmers pages, here, the holy stackoverflow and github and it seems like everyone has 2 or 3 languages they know and love... Then i look at job applications and those fuckees want you to know several fluently... :/ ready to uninstall all IDEs
-
Do any other teen programmers find it frustrating that clients will only hire us for a lower price? I understand it's a matter of experience, but I still feel designing and programming an iOS app is worth more than $2500...5
-
I’m starting to question the whole “programmer shortage” scenario. If there is such a high demand for programmers, why is everyone I know struggling to find a job or even keep it.11
-
My first job was 3 years ago.
I was tasked to create feature updates for a referral system.
There were two programmers in that project , both had left the company before I started.
There left no documentation whatsoever. They gave me a copy of user manual as my guide. HAHA!
Half of the code was in code igniter framework(wasn't even familiar with it then), the other half was hard coded.
It was a total nightmare. Wish I had the guts to call it quits then and there. XD10 -
I'd just like to thank the developers on the pornhub site for their amazing work.
I have a shitty internet connection that cuts off every ten seconds and reconnects after 30 seconds. I was searching for a particular channel when my connection cut off just as I wrote 'fake' when it reconnected 30 seconds later, the search autocompleted itself. thank you very much you amazing programmers.5 -
Explaining difficult things in a way that they are understandable by non-expert audiences.
This helps a lot to focus on simplicity when programming. And simple means it'll get understood by your peer programmers, it is simpler to test and it will be easier to maintain, and so on... -
I am going to make a prediction. C++ and Rust will be pitted against each other in a political manner. C++ will be likened to far right and Rust will be likened to far left.
It won't make sense, but it will be used to try and make language choice some political garbage. Rather than technical merits. There is already a Boomers use C/C++ and enlightened programmers use Rust kind of thing going. End of prediction.
DARPA has decided there is a consensus of programmers saying C needs to be replaced by Rust or some bullshit. Whenever I see "consensus" I automatically read "we decided for you".10 -
How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb? Not a single one, its a hardware problem!1

Question:
Does anyone here use the so called "Programmers Fonts"? If so, does it help? Also, is there any that anyone can recommend?17 -
True Story
I just finished a project, it was a rewrite, the original used the zend framework about 7 years ago. It took a team of programmers (I think 4) to code the site, and it took them about a month.
Just me, and Laravel, took me 3 weeks to do the exact same thing. Ok, I didn't have to create any content, so I'll give them that, still, there wasn't much to create.
Should I be applauding my genius? Or, Laravel's magic?
I'll say... both.3 -
Fellow C# programmers, how often do you use #region in your projects and how important do you think it is?
I have found myself using it increasingly. It works great for me and I feel that I can structure my code better.10 -
I wonder
Why programmers are containing tons of guy while the first programmer in the world is a woman 😂
P.s : don't take it too seriously14 -
I would replace it completely with industry apprenticeship, along with every other major. Education in the USA has become a scam designed to mine children for debt. If we're shackling kids to their student loans we at least owe them relevance in their chosen workplace.
Germany apparently let's people choose apprenticeship over university for work such as engineering. Does anyone know more about that? Does it work? Would it work for programmers?5 -
Good evening programmers, IT's, devranters and memeians.
I would like to use a little bit of your collective conciousness - the hive mind if you will.
I've been working on my automation system for quite a while and I've received some exposure from non-programmers - which resulted in more questions than suggestions.
I would like to ask you guys to give me some suggestions as to what I could add to my system.. that is, if you have time..
The program in short (if you don't want to read the readme file) is an automation system scriptable in pure Lua.
It utilizes Selenium for web automations, NAudio for audio operations and Moonsharp as an interpreter.
While my tester friends say that they use it for the actual testing, I myself found it very useful in writting bots (for browser games for example).
Here's the github link: https://bit.ly/2GDu92g
Thanks a ton!
PS. Here's an unrelated image to draw your attention.6 -
Don’t steal this aforizm;
ChatGPT will make good programmers become better, but it will make bad programmers look better.
Can reword to increase conciseness.7 -
Me: *ranting to my friend who isn’t a dev (but is in IT and a good knowledge of networking) about a problem I came across in my project.
“I don’t know how I’ll send folders”
Him: “just compress it before hand and decompress when it’s sent”
Me: *mind fucked*
Have any of you guys gotten surprisingly good ideas from non programmers?10 -
This is why I love Mr.Robot. They hide easter eggs in there for programmers and such. I found this at around the same time as these guys did but they beat me to decoding it. https://m.reddit.com/r/MrRobot/...4

None - It's a Hardware Problem -
Being the only developer in your circle of non-tech friends is weird 😕.
And why are most female programmers not appealing 🤦♂️.
The beautiful ones are usually clueless and can't get into a ”deep programming concept ”conversation.
I guess I can't eat my cake and have it at a time.18 -
I am really curious... who of you actually uses snapchat and why?
In my opinion it's one of the most useless apps out there and one of the best concepts to share all your private information with other people and of course the developers.
Also I'd like to believe that rather intelligent people don't use it or if they use it then just for the sake of not being excluded. Since this is a community of programmers I'd like to hear your opinions.7 -
So this has been a pet peeve of mine since I started coding roughly 7-8 years ago, and I want to know if I'm alone on this.
When non programmers ask to, or do so without informing you, watch you work.
I cannot function whilst someone is watching me, it just doesn't work.4 -
How do polyglot programmers successfully use languages?
I write code with second languages like how I speak a foreign language (e.g German). I think of what I want to say in English, then translate it to German.
How do my fellow devRanters do it?5 -
Hello C++ / C programmers. I've noticed my professor putting the ASCII code of a character into an int instead of just using a char to store it. When he does this he's not doing math or anything with them, so is there any advantage to it? My TA mentioned something about memory alignment, but I'm not experienced enough to know how something being aligned differently in memory would help or hurt a program.5
-
First there was Lo-Fi hip-hop then it started with Merkelwave and now there is Code-Fi. It just like Lo-Fi but for programmers.
Sometimes I really wonder what the hell is going on on the internet today.4 -
I absolutely love it when C# programmers who never learnt any language outside of their bubble discover C# is not the most feature up-to-date programming language. I am honestly annoyed by people who can read Java syntax but can't read ML syntax (because it is too 'clever' to be used in production). What a bunch of mediocre COBOL programmers!4
-
This network is like a combination of twitter, Microsoft, programmers and porn, so it is exciting to see relevant topics for me.5

Quick tip:
When an answer in SO has more upvotes than the question, has so many comments, and has so many explanation, so many code, and so many links, IT HAS A HIGH POSSIBILITY THAT IT IS A TROLL.
God damn i hate when programmers don't have any humor, and leave a comment saying
TROLL. PLEASE STOP THIS. FUCK
Good thing, devRant is full of people who HAS humor. Thank goodness.
tl;dr gone off topic -
Who the duck designed the common app interface? It's bloody awful just straight up awful. Why do you have to click out and then click back in to delete your previous search? Like wtf. Also when they ask for parents' country of birth but it isn't on the drop-down lousy because it didn't exist. It just looks like some lazy programmers did the bars minimum not caring about how it'd look or be to use because yknow duck that. Wow ok I'm done.1
-
1. Windows is unreliable and crappy.(I have had a lot of bad experience with windows.)
2. Mac is good but doesn't have a lot of things to tinker with.(Used mac, it runs on specific hardware only, for rich people who don't know how to use computers or for chad programmers )
3. Linux is the best. (The real programmer shit that has it all.)
What do you think?40 -
My boss asked us all to do a 360 review of
Our colleagues. I HATE ratting on my colleagues, even though someone of them are rubbish programmers. He’s the boss, if he doesn’t know how to tell who the bad eggs are, why should I help? It’s not like it get paired for for helping him or get any shares if the company does well.
I won’t rat of my colleagues.1 -

It's about time we make some God fucking damn things fucking God fucking clear. What the fuck does programming have to do with fucking non-programming?
Honestly. Fucking fucks pretending to be fucking programmers (probably not you, but fuck off if you're one of those fuckers.) FUCK SUCH PEOPLE FUCK YOU FUCK FUCK fuck FUCK!
There. Now that's out there. Leave fucking programming to the fucking fuckers who fucking know some-fucking-thing fucking ab-fucking-out it. If you're learning, ask questions, without you there'd be no fucking future for good fucking programmers. But if you're a fucking fuck fucking ducks in the fucking park--fuck the God fucking damn the fuck OFF!3 -
I fucking hate it when Java programmers hate on Python programmers! They believe Java is superb while Python is flawed. They talk about speed, speed, speed and speed!
Java programmers, why do you guys behave like assholes?27 -
Is it me or do programmers just skip dinner unknowingly because you just wanna squash that one feature before you head home? But you realise that it's already 12am?4

i adore compiler based programmers. yesterday i changed a bit of python code without being able to run it only to find out later i wasn't even able to spell True and False correctly.7

Me: "We seriously have an issue with staff engagement and motivation. Programmers must be given more challenges, they need to be creative, to innovate...
Boss: "Sure, but we can only do the fun things if it does not impede the Business As Usual."2 -
Happy to be here 1st day and I'm enjoying it ,best social network ever for programmers ...been looking for such for so long and starting to get addicted.
Here I've learnt here that I need to start learning new stuff real fast.
Here I feel not alone, cos here I feel at home.
I'm Sam from Nigeria ( any Nigerian here?)2 -
> checking it once

None of my colleagues are programmers, I explain the problem to them. Then suddenly I see the errors in my ways. Or I start composing an email explaining the problem to another programmer, I usually figure it out before I hit send. The method has been given a name, I've forgotten what. Anyone knows?2
-
to add a bit of fancyness i print the scripts name and 'by' my 'artists name' whenever scripts are executed. today i got a call 'it says error on line 1, what did i do wrong?' i am still laughing tears. did not consider this programmers joke to have an impact irl.1
-
I'm using Elementary OS for few days now, and I can only say that I love it, it's really good looking compared to other Linux I tried before (Debian KDE, Ubuntu Unity, OpenSUSE XFCE) but there's not enough programmers functionality natively integrated3
-
Hello dear fellow programmers,
Lately I'm faced with an issue: i can't code. It takes me a really long time to get my codeengine running and it stops on the first occasion, it either be a cigarette pause, a question from a coworker or what ever.
I love code and I have a blast when I start but I have a hard time starting it.
What to do? I'm a bit at a loss here1 -
Dad: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
Me: None, that's a hardware problem4 -
Is 'Ikea Programming' a thing?
If it isn't yet, we should make it a thing - for those people who call themselves "programmers" after copy-pasting a few lines of code from stack-overflow ( or elsewhere ) and gets it working.
And then claims, "It works right? Don't touch it."
I'm going to start using it already.
( but it wouldn't be any fun to call someone names over video conferencing. that's the fun of going to an 'office'. I guess I'm missing it now. )
PS : the long conversation screenshot is only for context, but the highlighted part should be sufficient to get what I'm talking about.question ikea programming copy-paste not programmers we should totally make it a thing copy-paste programmers3 -
At the end of the day...does the end consumer REALLY give a shit about what language you program in? As long as the app fucking does what it's supposed to right? I feel like this is a never ending rant for me because it seems like programmers will never understand that it doesn't matter as long as the end consumer / client is happy.2
-
I read this today.
Q: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None, that's a hardware problem.1 -
What diseases or health problems do programmers commonly suffer from?
How do you take care of yourself? What mistakes you made?
Are computer glasses worth it?
What is the best investment you made for your health? e.g. ergonomic mouse or keyboard. How useful are these ergonomic gadgets?
I'm 26yrs. old. I've learnt the value of physical and mental health, so I'm starting to take care of it now.10 -
Eureka! I have done it! I have written a program that will replace 80% of programmers with an AI!
The approach is to use grammar identification with language heuristics to recognize solution patterns using multilayered neural networks. The code source uses trusted pattern samples that are scored by human programmers. The code is programmed using text duplication and placement from the trusted sources.
TLDR: Uses pattern matching to copy and paste from Stack Overflow.1 -
Every time there is a new project, we programmers swear to ourselves that we will code it better this time. We get elated that we do not have to deal with the tech debts piled up in the old module.1
-
devRant moderator because all programmers would rant that it was so much better before AI came along and took their job
-
When gdb doesnt automatically deferences `this` but you just explicitly deference it at the start of every method:
Ps: the reference variable was literally called `dbug_mee_dawg`

Read an article in a newspaper about the pros and cons of hiring super skilled programmers, that it could be an advantage to have a team consisting of geniuses and average programmers (something like that) .
And I thought for myself, that it suddenly seemed possible for me to get a job in the future 😂1 -
I recently read that great programmers care more about algorithms than code. I hope I can find more time to devote to learning algorithms than spending it on yet another framework. #springboot.js1
-
Created an affiliate tracker / split test tracker / campaign tracker for my Laravel project in 1.5 days.
Not bad, not bad.
Now, should I offer it on github? Seems like I might be kicking myself in the balls if I did.
On the one hand, I don't have a lot of time atm, on the other, I'd love to meet fellow programmers who seek out and would want this, and perhaps contribute. Could lead to some great partnerships down the line..
Anyone have experience with this? Did it take a lot more time than you thought, did you meet other programmers and ended up collaborating on future projects?
Curious.. -
Casting never worked well with humans. On the other hand, programmers don't mind working with it.

The Jio phone out of India actually looks like a cheap ($10ish dollars) but worthy little option if you just want something to mess around on but don't want to drop $30-40 (plus shipping) on a pi.
Only 4gb storage, 512mb ram, 240x320 screen, dual core 1ghz, just enough to experiment if you're broke.
What do you think? Any indian programmers familiar with the Jio?
I'm not running out to buy it or anything. I stumbled across it and wonder what people's opinions of it are.14 -
A new job position in programming is going to crop up if programming tools can be created to replace lower tier programmers. It will be a programmer that can manage AI Programmers. Some kind of AI Manager that can sort through, direct, and review code written by code generators. I cannot imagine the shit this person will have to wade through.1
-
To all those senior programmers out there do you think learning assembly can benefit you in landing a job? It seems like an useless language to me other than it might be fun to play around with kernels6
-
https://stilldrinking.org/programmi...
/\ This is why all programmers should go on strike for a month and collectively collaborate to code a new, clean, bug free internet where nobody but you can control your data.
Also. It should only be added to by people who know how to code in order to maintain this clean code.
We can call it "internet level 2" or "internet 2.0"4 -
Would the world be a better place if everything was open source? How would it effect the profits of companies and wages of programmers?1
-
only programmers can tell what this feels like sometimes it not funny expecially when trying to fix a bug.4
-
stackoverflow should just be called pythonoverflow
because that's all it is, scrub / lazy wannabe "programmers" asking basic python questions they could find the answer to in 5 minutes on google if they made even the smallest amount of effort
sorry i'm not sorry, i asked my first stackoverflow question 3-5 years after I started my career. it's not a helpdesk the moment you encounter an error with your code or have a question about it6 -
It seems to me that we all keep posting the same images (normally geeky tech humour) or how programmers are seen by others etc... would it be useful to have an image gallery on devRant so that we can all post into it, lets face it we all love to see them. might stop the same images being posted over and over again .... Would have to be moderated though !
what do you think @dfox ?? -
Programmers are usually notoriously bad at guessing which parts of the code are the primary consumers of the resources. It is all too common for a programmer to modify a piece of code expecting see a huge time savings and then to find that it makes no difference at all because the code was rarely executed. - Jon Louis Bentley, Writing Efficient Programs9
-
I wish there was more dedicated, physical spaces that were tailored to programmers in particular. I know there’s a lot of collectives out there, but it’s hard to implicitly discourage startup fiend management from taking it over it seems like. We should organize more around a common craft. Free mason type shit.9
-
How many fucking programmers does it take to build a fully functional human being.
One male and one female.4 -
I've always thought about it, knowing to program is innate. I've seen a lot of people with motivation but struggling to understand the logic behid. On the other hand for the good programmers this understanding comes naturally, like as if their brains already worked that way.3
-
It looked nice on my CV ... Hmmmm actually the only useful thing was learning how to design a system.
Programming is matter of practice...
Designing however you need some educational background.. see some amazing programmers with equally horrible designing skills ..! -
I can't use this keyboard to program:
Got a transparent touch LED keyboard because I thought it was cool, turns out the lazy chinese programmers have used a really long debounce time of ~100ms in its firmware to prevent duplicate keystroke detection.
Which means, I can't type as fast as I want on this thing! 😭 -
Guys I want to seek help in datastructures is there any discord link which you know of where I can connect with programmers and discuss my results.
Plz mention it2 -
Do you feel that people are prefering to go through a bunch of tuts than sitting down and read a book.?
SO has made it so easy -- got an error just google and fix it. No need to bother about underlying concepts.
SO is great but do you feel like it's making younger programmers more focused on trouble-shooting rather than solving and understanding.?1 -
Why is it so hard for some programmers to gain the maximum performance and not to waste any resources?4
-
What if some one very cruel programmer programmed a programmer and designer AI that can generate code 700X faster, generate flawless and reliable code / design in any and Every programming language that could replace 100% of the programmers in the world?
What if he give it for free?
And companies started to fire all programmers and designers to download the free AI and use it and it was better than every programmer in the world?
What if the AI was able to code a whole Office suit and all Adobe products in just 3 seconds?
What if it was very intelligent that no one needs to hire a programmer ?
What if any one started to create their own app using it and replace programmers like car replaced horse?
What do you feel about it?
Do you wish if it happen?
Or not?
Is it your dream?
Or nightmare?17 -
Question:
trying to innovate your city...do you think it would be a good idea to bring together programmers for a common goal? what kind of projects would you build for your city?1 -
I’m annoyed that a lot of people don’t understand that code is art, and don’t value it as such. While many programmers do dabble in more traditional art forms, they don’t see program as *an art form*. Programmers need to actually see this. Stop devaluing programming by using LLMs and the such.

Anyone has heard of "Google foobar challenges"?
I found out that it's a secret process of hiring developers and programmers all over the world.
Google triggers it when a user searches for some Programming related stuff.46 -

Shout out to my fellow not American programmers that are constantly getting the spelling of colour wrong. Constantly having you word processor nag at you because you spent too much time programming and are spelling it with a letter U, or constantly having your debugger nag at you because it doesn't know what "colour"4
-
How it all started today: achieved rank below 100 for the first time in a coding competition.
How it's all ending: not able to solve even a single problem now. Not even the Leetcode easy ones.
Conclusion: a happy beginning can end depressing.
Cheers to Programmers...3 -
!Rant what's so hard about multithreading for newbie programmers. (An actual question. Trying to tutor some friends who just don't get it)
It's practically a requirement for MVC.
In c# it's extremely simple. Just create a background worker with a handler/interface.2 -
I've heard of the prisoners dilemma, so here's the programmers dilemma:
If nobody gets what they want, endless meetings ensue
If person A gets what they want, then everything is fine
If person B gets what they want, then everything is fine
If both get what they want, it becomes a shitfest
I think this goes for conventions, patterns, you name it2 -
Everyone seems to be obsessed with wordle at the moment so it got me wondering.
How many programmers here enjoy or are good at puzzles?
Personally I don’t enjoy puzzles too much nor am I great at them.
Do you need to be good at one to be good at the other?7 -
boss: ... It's easy for you programmers to find a job, isn't it? (After he told me I was to face the axe.)
me: (WTF?...) -
A giant Workshop where engineers build robot models, doctors (in computer in, obviously) create concepts and direction line for the A.I when programmers effectively program it. Like à facture of robots bu with just innovation and not money in mind

There's been a fad in the company where the managers ask for the opinions of other departments to "get different perspectives".
On one hand, we get feedback by non-experts, which is obviously bad because they're not in their field. "Feature X is kinda complicated. We could simplify it by doing A." and the manager goes "that's a brilliant idea! Let's do that!" and the devs go "we did consider that, but it has drawback N. And perhaps you wanna do B, but that has drawback M..."
And then they were asking for us programmers for inputs on their designs for logos, etc. Naturally, as programmers, we wanted quick access to many functionalities. But marketing wants a simpler and more intuitive design, even if it involves more clicks. This wasn't in my job description! I just wanna code! Thinking is your job! -
Any other programmers smoke a bunch of weed or does that make me a brogrammer. If it makes u feel better one alcoholic drink leaves me with a hangover1

Calling C++ programmers, or probably any other language, is it bad practice for me to name a string "open_first_file" or should I camelCase it instead?11
-
I hope Scott Meyers is learning Swift, because it's gaining so many edge cases and keyword-level features that programmers who use it will need an "Effective Swift" book to tell them which language features to avoid to get their work done.
I wonder whether it will survive that complexity as C++ did, or collapse under the weight like Perl. -
Programmers can sometimes be considered as gods: the client gets a holy documentation and it can take some time to find answer, or even get a reply from above!1
-
*YOU* are full of bullshit.
C++ is a horrible language. It’s made more horrible by the fact that a lot of substandard programmers use it, to the point where it’s much much easier to generate total and utter crap with it…
So I’m sorry, but for something like git, where efficiency was a primary objective, the “advantages” of C++ are just a huge mistake. The fact that we also piss off people who cannot see that is just a big additional advantage.8 -
I selected a random pic and showed it to ma fella
and I said <<programmers will understand this>>
::: he was staring at it for a moment and he started laughing confirming that he got it! But it really doesn't mean any !!!
#Lol1 -
This is some cool shit:

Now I want to learn how to AI at least enough to understand what they are doing.
People worried about AI replacing programmers when it was the math people software has been replacing.6 -
What if I build a platform for programmers and they are able to give ++ on posts (like button is from Facebook era, grow up!), comment and tag each other?
It would be a plus if there was a bot of a guy that keeps creating accounts for him, like, everyday. And this guy may be called jase.
Oh well, it would be a great platform! I could call it dev++2 -
What are the skills that are essential for developers and computer scientists in general but are disappearing/rare.
Ill start it off with sayin probably the relation of a developers code on a hardware level, i dont see many programmers knowing about what happens under the hood when he chooses an if over a switch.
What do you think?4 -
Did you ever had a dream where you didn’t know the solution to a problem and you tried to Google it, only to get frustrated and find no results? Did I have a programmers nightmare?2

So... Here it is
I am working in a web application thay only works on IE (I know, it is not my fault), and I asked the programmers that started this project, if we can start using it in another browsers but they told me that it is not possible because 'some javascript may not work in other browsers'.
Is this really possible or they just don't want to code for compatibility with other browsers?3 -
Aways wondered how developers are different from programmers. Developers write programs and combine them together to develop an application. It Isn’t true?13
-
Cheers to all good programmers but know not good English. PS: it should be a list of locationNames3
-
My essay company wants to add new sections to our company website.
I`m wondering if it`s difficult for programmers to write essays and do you actually need it.
No spam, just gathering opinions. Thanks3 -
Business Manager loses internet connection, panics and everyone calls over the two programmers to sort it out all of this while we're converting 7 pages written during the caveman days under direct command of the CEO... We call the head of IT (who had never been in IT before) who couldn't know much less about programming and he bitches to us about the importance of his work, which is basically sitting on his ass doing inventory1

There are 1 type of programmers. Those who understand how to use bits, and those who thinks it should be 10.4

The comments on the code Apollo Guidance Computer (1960s) is so much fun! Also, funny in parts. We modern programmers are too formal in our comments! Code is on Github.
Check it out: http://qz.com/726338/... -
Are programmers so
1. Busy to skip to get the time for shave, (long hair and beard),
2. Or lazy to skip.
3. Or don't find it as a need.
Sorry for poor English4 -
Rust really needs an implicit Clone for lightweight operations like cloning an Rc, or a big fat warning sign at Copy telling programmers never to derive it for any custom type because if you ever have to remove it you will have to update every single occurrence of any value of your type.7

After about two days of trying to crack LaTeX, I'm starting to think it was made for masochists, not programmers...why on earth would any sane mind come up with such a gooseshit???2

The main problem when working with a staff of programmers: you never know what the employees are doing, until it turns out that the deadline has already come.😫1
-
rust programmers are truly not creative people. instead of making their own shit, they enter others code and projects and try to infest it with rust. that's the whole reason they keep rewriting things that existed before. they just cant create!6

Dear Fellow Programmers,
I want to become Cyber Security Specialist and currently learning Java (beginner ). Please, tell me is it a good language for this type of activity and what else should I learn.2 -
Ok so giving chatgpt small instructions seems to kind of work
The question is how to connect to it through your own interface? Chat is cutting off code
I don't think this will put programmers out of business
You have to know what you're doing to instruct it lol
Do you think they'll lose their whole user base making this a 1000.00 a year pay service?2 -
So... I like 30 seconds of code! And I like the idea of it tbh, I was thinking about something like before.
The question is, how bad will it be if I do a similar website but in my native language? 🤔
I don’t want to be a copycat .. but its really good idea for sharing knowledge and to help other programmers. -
Real programmers use macs in a coffee shop. Perfect for collab and scrum.
Desktop turtles get over it. You're no longer viable.4 -
TrumpScript is one funny programming language that was formulated by four Rice University undergraduates. TrumpScript allows developers to operate with numbers that are bigger than one million. If programmers user numbers less than a million then it will generate a quote from Donald Trump as an error message: ”I’m really rich, Part of the beauty of me is I’m very rich.”1

i wonder of the programmers/ designers for the game The divison are here.. if so.. you guys fucking suck! geez. never played or even hear of a game with so many bugs and glitches. then when they patch it. they actually make the game worse.
-
But if a private question but for whoever wants to share, how much did your first job after graduation pay? I know it depends on the country or state ofc so let me know from where to. (Not collecting data for programmers starting salaries >.> I swear >.> )9

Whenever I rant about JavaScript and it's terrible way of doing things differently and totally illogical in the way real programmers would do things versus webdev-scriptkiddies...
Whenever I laugh about these engineers who can only 'code' in Matlab...
Whenever I hear people consider configuring (of stuff like WordPress or RGB-Keyboard-Lights etc.) as 'programming'...
I wonder, if I'm just like the 'Real Programmers' back in 1983 who truly considered Fortran or Assembly to be much more superior than Pascal and someone who coded in the latter or even used a simple OS like UNIX couldn't get accepted as a programmer.
Found that old article about "Real Programmers".
It's worth a read.

Just consider someone writing modern computer programs without libraries, ifs, for loops and only gotos by hand from top to bottom...
Some day I want to start some modern project everyone else would do in some random modern scripting language and hack it down in assembly just for fun and to tell people, I did it. So I could call myself a Real Programmer too.2 -
Got a question for any programmers . Maybe it depends on what version of Windows but Registry Edit for No lock screen option. I believe the desktop where I enabled it was a Windows 10. Would any one know where Windows 11 option would be in the registry. When I created DWORD with disable lock screen. I tested it out and I was still stuck on lock screen11
