I accidently spammed my own server from my other server, which caused fail2ban to go bananas.
Fail2ban sent ALOT of emails to my hostingproviders abuse department and they due to the amount of emails they got suspended my server.

I can't blame them :)

I was once at a hackathon and got into a team with some people out of the same company. They brought all of their fancy tools with them, which no one understood except for them.
They ended up doing all of the back-end and I designed a f***** logo, some slides and bored myself to death for the remaining 18 hours or so.

Two people I know just got fired from their jobs because they were working on a project on their free time. One of them got a 10000$ fine aswell.

Apparently there was a small hidden clause in their contract that stated that any side projects, even on your free time, was strictly forbidden. Because it could be seen as competition.
Now that was, imo, a bit fucked up.

Management and other senior leadership have been really shitty recently, I got showed up in a meeting in front of about 20 of my peers and people myself/them and treated like a fucking child.

Got depressed for a long time and stopped making games.

Brother comes drunk at 15 years old, got yelled but bc he was out partying and socializing he never got called a loser by them. Now they laugh at that experience.

But never apologized until I got a breakdown. Fb becomes big and now they want me to invent the next Facebook and telling me to be happy.

Interviewee was googling the answers to the technical questions on a Skype interview. Their CV said they had 2 years experience.

I found an old project on which I hadn't version controlled, so I decided to manually commit progress on a past date. Only problem GitHub calendar wouldn't show it.

I emailed them and because it was private repo I added them as contributor. Then I got this reply.

I asked our customer at least 10 times if they really REALLY want the feature this particular way, because it absolutely made no sense..

Guess who got a bug (!!) assigned today in which the feature should be changed like I told them..........

A client literally just told us "I don't wanna be telling you what I want / require / need. I just want you to give me the best you got."

Like wtf.

The worst thing is they've got but loads of money so we really have to take them serious. They were born rich and probably had a servant as a child who did everything for them without them asking to, and they'll continue to get away with it because they'll continue to be rich and there'll be people like us trying to kiss their ass for some of that money. I hate myself for doing it. They want a system to basically spy on their customers, and I'm a huge advocate of privacy, but I'll still do it for the money. Fuck this world.

I just got a company called me for interview for f**king 3 hours, I wasted 3 hours of them asking me stupid questions. I show them the projects I have done, as they demand. I spent another 1.5 hours of them questioning my intelligence of whether these projects are stolen , fraud, or copied from Youtube. Just because I am a self-taught and have multiple professional certs, they believed these are mine if I have a bachelor degree or a PHD in Computer science.

Co-Worker laughed at me for taking a task on their side project and only them have worked at it. FYI i've never worked as a Dev before and I have a really low knowledge of web developing. A client is like: Help! We got a 500 in our wordpress administration panel and there is no error in the log, it must be your infrastructure at fault!

So I calmly replied to them that wordpress handles its errors on its own, and without the appropriate debug flags enabled, doesn't log it anywhere. Even mentioned that a PHP app can change the error handler no problem, and linked them to both, PHP and Word press docummentation.

Didn't hear from them since.

Identified the origin of the DDoS attack. Apparently, the person was just hopping through 3 IPs so looked like a targeted attack likely from a competitor. I sent the logs with incident notification to the abuse@hostprovider.com to ask them to suspend them.

Got a prompt response but took them a week to suspend this.

We were a very small team and had to stop everything to fix this-iptables and firewall etc.

We had not even launched the product and was still under development.

After waiting nearly 2 months I finally got them!

So...Just got moved from salaried to hourly for an already extremely overworked, underpaid position. Lost our flexible hours and our platform is moving to drop and drag...Watch them say no overtime now. Beyond pissed!😡

Defending was easy: the project was decent while not being much. A Mercedes without electric windows. I just told them it's what I prefer.

Unfortunatley I got rejected, however I kept Contact with the Company and i asked for a fulltime employment, they were fine with that and i got a tech Interview Next Week with them. Now my recruiter contacted me and Knew already about everything, they kept asking me what they should negotiate with them. I told them i will negotiate myself as I am looking forward to a full Time employment with them, they tell me it has to be under their name, eventhough it has nothing to do with the agreed freelancing position.. are they allowed to do that ?

Been a freelancing for quite a while now and forgot what's it's like to work in a company. Have you got any tips that I could benefit from? Got an interview coming up this week and want to impress them. BTW I'm a Web developer.

Finally got them.

So I had two job interviews yesterday. Except they both got cancelled due to the snow. Luckily I got them both rescheduled to next Monday. But I wasn't happy about the weather ruining my carefully crafted plans. Work gets more toxic by the day and I want to get out of here.

Got a PROD issues caused by missing data from upstream. Told them about it last week. 3 days of no replies.

Finally got a reply that they will look into it. It's been almost a week since I first told them but no responses and no solution yet.

I couldn't fall asleep because I guess I drank too much coffee but also cuz the thought of this pissed me off.... So got up and sent a work email basically threatening to escalate this all the way up, put their asses in hot water.

Though not sure if I can but.... Maybe I can take a disability leave for needing to mentally recover from going mad at other people that can't do their jobs but aren't fired...

Got the newest update for Emojis and I was scrolling through them, and what do you know? This one popped up. All I can think of was "Devrant did it first"

Got started by making farmville cheats. Found many exploits. Best was when I found 3 ways to do the same exploit. Zynga kept patching and I kept releasing a new way.
Lasted for just over a year or so.
Played for like 3years and then got bored. Those were the golden days, really miss them.

Got my new bt headphones. Went to work and plugged my bt stick in the PC. Paired them and double clicked on volume control. Each time i clicked ubuntu froze for 30 sec.

I got invited to take part in the "senior" games in my town. The person inviting me is in their 80s. They said people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s will compete. I told them I am not yet 50. They were oh, okay. I said, I will tell Ed at work though. He could be in them!

Then I told Ed about this. He laughed. Then I said he could be in them. He told me to get out of his office, jokingly. I asked him if he was going to go to HR. He said yes. Then he said it was really funny I got invited.

Ed is great to work with.

So all Matrix movies are now on Prime... Not sure when exactly that happened but watching them right now.

Question; if you've got a team member who's been phoning it in during the last few sprints and their inattention causes extra work for others, what do you do?

- Have a private word directly one to one.
- Say nothing but bitch amongst yourselves
- Complain to the team lead
- Call them out during a daily standup and tell them they're producing shit.

Any opinions?

I got handed over a project that has hundreds of lines of commented codes, some dating back to 2013. I am then told not to delete those as we "might need them". WHAT DO YOU NEED A 4 YEAR OLD COMMENTED CODE FOR???

After the servers got shut down because someone used them for illegal advertisement, after me putting in 30-35 hours a week on the side of my studies. Since it was my job to keep them running and doing DevOps work, they just slowly froze me out of the company without even firing me. I even asked them what I should be working on then. Got my RC522 RFID reader for a school project last night, got it to work, tried to plug it into my breadboard this morning and shorted it... Double checked on 2 different arduinos and 1RPi 3 B didn't work on either one of them.

Me and one teacher i got, both Linux enthusiasts, decided that we should create an open source community and spread the word to other students, teachers and stuff from the university about Linux and open source in general.

First meeting went well, we got quite an attendance, people seemed curious and willing to learn.

Second meeting is tomorrow, and we decided to show them some Linux distributions and DE.

Guess what, we can’t decide what to show them.
He is a pure Debian lover, i use both Debian and Arch.

He insisted on Mint since he didn’t want to scare them with Debian.
I said that we could show them Manjaro.

We develop a service that sometimes expose the email address support@ourdomain.com to users.
Apparently that makes them to think we support them in any conceivable matter. I once got a request to aid in removing apps from someone's Blackberry device. You'd think they could have emailed support@bb.com instead...

Company's main server got an upgrade and I am installing the new one from scratch now.
The new server hoster has custom images and CDRoms. One of them is called "Arch Linux"...

So I got reprimanded for some error on a site. I proved that this was a back end problem and that this has nothing to do with me (I'm just a front end dev). Didn't get a single apology, the dev who broke the thing got off scot free and now i have to work overtime while they publish the changes to test them

Long story short:

Just had several problems with using some drone ci plugins (hugo and sftp). Found issues regarding the problems on GitHub. Issues have been open for several years. Still open. Tried to participate or ask for the state. Got a "no one else got a problem with this". Recoded both plugins. Tested them. Using them now. Source is on GitHub. Posted them as alternatives on drone's discourse. Got flagged as spam.

Nice. Not using Drone again. Searching for an alternative now.
