Am I the only one who's bothered by the fact that in CSS, "!important" doesn't mean "not important" ?13
-
Made our wifi password "********" so that when you click "Preview password" you see the same thing. Yes, I have a college degree and yes, that's probably the most clever thing I'll ever be able to do with it.9

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

HR people working in tech companies, let's talk about them...
*phone rings and I pick up*
HR Lady: Hi, this is [name] from [company]. I'm calling you regarding your application you submitted [some date 2 months ago!].
Me: *realizing that I've applied 2 freaking months ago* Hmmm OK....
HR Lady: Yes, well, we asked for your GitHub account, but you seem to have forgotten to provide it.
Me: *open up the email and see that I've sent them my GitLab account* Well, I have the email right here and I did send you a git account. I mean, it's not GitHub specifically but it's a GitLab account, pretty much the same thing, you should be good with that.
HR Lady: OK, let me put you on hold for a minute.
*2-3 minutes passes*
HR Lady: Hi sir, I've asked my colleague [which I suppose is another HR] and he told me that they're not the same thing, we cannot proceed until you give us the right link, you need to send us a link to your GitHub account.
Me: I mean, they aren't the SAME EXACT thing, but both companies provide essentially the same service, it's like Messenger and WhatsApp. Look, I'm pretty sure that if you give this to another programmer they'll be fine.
HR Lady: No, Messenger and WhatsApp aren't the same thing. Sir, please stay polite. We need a GitHub account not a GitLab account.
Me: *mumbling* Oh boy.... M'am, it's OK, I don't need the job anyway, I've found something. Two months is a long time and I needed something quickly. Thank you, have a good day.6 -
In networking class today:
Student - "But this is just in theory, how does it work in practice?"
Lecturer - "In theory, theory and practice are the same thing."15 -
It's important for developers to remember that......
For the rest of the world a "string" and a "thread" are the same thing..4 -
Client: “Hey this thing isn’t working correctly.”
Me: “Hmm, looks like there was a bug in the last update. The team and I are going to work on a fix. In the meantime here’s a tool to help you get what you need.”
Client:”Yay!”
*A little while later*
Same Client:”Hey this thing isn’t working.”
Me:”Hey, yeah, it’s the same thing. That bug I told you about? Yeah, we’re still working on it. We’ll let you know when it’s finished I promise but we’re trying to fix it without introducing more bugs.”
Client:”Ok sounds good.”
*A little while later*
Same Client:”Hey this thing isn’t working.”
Me:”Bro...we just went over this...”
*A little while later*
Same Client:”Hey seems like there’s a bug in our system that was found by -insert random coworker’s name here-. Are we looking into to this?”
Me:”Wtf dude.”
*A little while later*
Same Client:”Hey this thing isn’t working.”
Me: -smashes my face against keyboard-7 -
At our first programming course at uni (it was in C), a student asks in class:
Student: what is a pointer?
Teacher: i don't know, i only know Java.
How the hell did the poor guy end up teaching C then?!6 -
FOR FUCK SAKE...
The same fucking guy that said Java and JavaScript is the same thing tried inserting RAM into the PCIe slot twice! It doesn't even look like it will fit at first sight.8 -
It's funny how a man gets something done and gets a "Good work, John!".
But, a woman gets the same thing done, and gets "Good work, team!".

I literally just opened devRant app to upload this photo and discovered @tdails posted about the same thing.13

I'm logging my DevRant time as training ... I read all these dumb things that people do, and make mental notes so that I don't do the same thing. Best. Training. Ever.6

My boss asked me to do estimates for some tasks.
I did it.
He told me that was too much time.
I told him that those were the estimates taking into account the experience of the team.
He told me the estimates were independent of that.
I asked if an estimate, for the same tasks, for a team of interns should be the same as for a team of seniors.
"Of course they are the same!"
Funny thing is that he even says he supports scrum...9 -
I am a software engineer and my cousin is a Geek Squad employee for the local Best Buy. And he thinks we do the same thing.7
-
I spent three hours coding some algorithm and then looked it up on Stack Overflow out of curiosity. Big surprise. Someone did the exact same thing but more effeciently, and had all the code in his answer on SO.
Ughhhhhhhh 😓4 -
- My client on regular day.
U can manage your tasks by your own. App looks stable and you are doing well.
- Same client when I'm on Vacation
This thing is not working, that thing is not working. This is do or die situation for us. you have to cancel your vacation plans.
- Same client after I come back from vacation in which I wasted precious hours of my vacation time and fixed all the bugs.
I didn't release your changes yet coz I wanted to release it together with you. I was like "THEN WHY THE FUCK YOU RUINED MY VACATION" -_-4 -
so i guess ill use my code.org teacher for this:
"credit card information is encrypted with the public keys"
"lists and arrays are the same thing"
"javascript is a powerful, fast, programming language" (bhahahaha)
"javascript is [only] used in web browsers"
"java and javascript are *extremely similar* but not the same"12 -
Ya go ahead. Touch my screen. The next thing I would do is get that same fingerprint from my screen, unlock your phone and fucking factory reset it. Or worse, message all the girls in your contact that you have a tiny dick. Go ahead. I dare you to touch my screen.8

Work today was good although put in 2 hrs of overtime....
But I optimized some code by changing out a class. Now it does the same thing except does it:
in SECONDS on my local PC
instead of 10+ MINUTES on a massive server.12 -
What the shit!!!
At 11:00
While studying
"ah... I'm sleepy, can't tolerate any more", and just go to bed.
At 11:05
While scrolling rants
"hahaha... So true, same happened with me.. bla bla...."
At 12:47
Doing same thing from last 1 hour 40 mins
Even not sleepy yet!!!
It's too addictive. Having so much good posts, much better than fb feeds.... Loving the rants... New experience3 -
I got a call at 12:30 one night a few months back. Apparently some back-end scripts I edited to fix an automated test setup crashed around 75 test pc's and halted somewhere around 2000 tests. I quickly jumped on, fixed the issue, and got everything back online.
I was up all night certain I would get fired. First thing in the morning the client says welcome to the club some, of the best have done the same thing.2 -

When you are working on a feature and someone else is working on the same thing and you commit at the same time and now you have to resolve conflicts but both versions work2

During code review:
Guy (also the same guy who pushes code without making unit tests): "Hey, this thing you added is unnecessary. Remove it."
Me: "Have you read the rest of the changes? It isn't unnecessary."
Guy: "Not yet"1 -
I am an idiot. I wrote some 100+ lines of code months ago and I took another look today and it seems like it could've done the same thing in 3. Fuckity fuck fuck.8

I fucking hate it when people completely ignore/forget something I say and then later say the same thing like they came up with it.12

When the clients wants to talk to your manager and your manager tells him exactly the same thing you did.

Recruiters, please understand that only because Java and Javascript share same Letters its not the same language ! Just like Ham and Hamster are not the same thing3

Same situation as my previous rant.
Was building the dynamic page loader thing (basically mvc part) but it just DIDN'T FUCKING WORK.
As a last resort I chose the views to render based on a few if-else's 😅
Hacky as hell but it saved me from doom! -
Each sticker on a race car increases speed by a small amount, which is why they all have so many. Same thing with laptops.3

Writing cool code might be your passion but shipping it is your job. Sometimes they are not the same thing unfortunately... and its ok!3

It officially happened...
Accidentally used rm -rf /*

Laptop doesn't boot now. Saved my home directory though.
Hooray.5 -
Client: “I’m sorry I just don’t understand the issue with the contract?
You said logging into Facebook was easy, what’s the issue with feature X (= complex graph API queries based on opinions and sentiment) and displaying images and videos, it’s the same thing!!!”
... no sir, it is NOT2 -
So normally it takes at least 4 years to become a developer by pursuing a CS or similar degree.
However, today I found out you could just touch the screen 7 times on Android to do the same thing. Go figure...10 -
I once got fired for being sick and show up at the office without doctor certificate, crazy thing i got better job same day then posted to LinkedIn haha1

Working at SQUARE ENIX is a love/hate thing tbh. It's fun and stressing at the same time. Pay's not very good , office's fine, but the management is...there's a massive room for improvement, at the very least.
Sucks that the company is doing worse and worse decisions.5 -
God Damnit just name the fucking interface one thing and stop changing it every single time you check in. I don't care if you call it IGeorge at this point as long as it's still the same thing tomorrow morning you fuck.1

Director: What’s the next step on <thing>?
Manager: There is no next step because *manager explains*.
Director: How can not there be a next step?
Manager: *explains the same thing again, reading from a mail chain Director is also a part of*
Director: Okay, so net-net there is no next step.
Beautiful conclusion mf.1 -
One of the worst thing :

Rule 34.
"If it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions." Rule 34 (novel), by Charles Stross
Same thing applies to npm modules.17 -
There's no such thing as an expert programmer. With time you just get different kinda errors. As long as you're not getting same error, you're making progress.1

This whole github thing is only yet again revealing, how many package maintainers are a bunch of instable psychopaths and should have somebody else manage the keys
be it one guy deleting all shit from npm and breaking worldwide babel installs or now raging toddlers deleting their repos with no actual readme notice or atleast placeholder repo and telling others to do the same
jesus fucking christ, how can the same person have developed such intricate package and then be an absolute manbaby throwing shit at strangers7 -
me: hey prof, i dont know why this is wrong

prof: hmmm let me see
prof: u see its wrong here. thats why it doesnt work

A: Done job for today.
B: Let me check your code.
A: Sure.
B: Only 6 lines of code in a day?
A: Yup, 6 line of code is better than 1000 thousand line that can do the same thing.
B: 😑😑😑 -
People who actually implement DRY: "Don't repeat yourself!"
People who "implement" DRY but are morons: "Don't repeat yourself, never say the same thing twice, and try not to be redundant."11 -
I loved her from the beginning.
I devoted so much of my time to her. She told me her heart doesn't point to anyone. Yet I tried to reach her.
Everytime I ask her what's wrong, she gives me the same answer. I tried to be different. I changed things. Yet she said the same thing again today: "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"4 -

So I like to order the same thing for each restaurant. And there's this really good Mexican restaurant. Every time I eat there, the price of my order is $13.37. That is all.3 -
So, today a client said: "If you are a web developer, well you can make me a damn mobile app. It's the same fooking thing, you just write code and make it go on my device. I want a whatsapp-like app for my company."
I really, really wanted to punch him on his godamn face... At the end I spent tbe rest of the meeting explaining that I don't develop mobile apps since I'm a web developer and that it is NOT THE SAME THING. He went angry and said "Well, I think I'll find a better dev somewhere else. You are a useless one"10 -
Come on guys ... Everyone was young once we all thought java and JavaScript were basically the same thing! ...
Granted I was 7... when I learnt the truth....22 -
When you've spent DAYS coding, testing, and perfecting a custom function...
... and the very next day IntelliSense shows you the built-in method that does exactly the same thing. -
Cross platform terminal library is just about complete!
Here's the same program running in both Windows and "Ubuntu" (WSL, but it's using the ncurses back-end nonetheless)
What my library does:
- Double-buffers the console for drawing (like curses does)
- Translates input into a standard structure (Linux and Windows have different input systems, obviously)
- Does the same thing for output
- Even supports color!2 -
My roommate: why do you look so mad.
Me: stupid program is broke
My roommate: didn't you fix it yesterday?
Me: yes. I broke some thing else
Roommate: oh on a different project?
Me: nope same one.
Roommate: [walks away more confused than when the conversation started]1 -
Why the fuck are all templating engines called after synonyms of the same thing?
Laravel has Blade
ASPNET has Razor
Node has Edge10 -
You know how people say insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result? Those people have never done different things and gotten the same result.1

The bad thing about programming is that you can copy paste working code from a previous program on the same machine, same IDE and it still won't give a fuck.. I'm currently here.2

When you spend countless hours working on a new feature and realize that there was this google API which could do the exact same thing the whole time..... -.-6

WTF is an agilist? Am I a codist now? This crap is getting out of hand. I’m really starting to dislike this industry- it’s the same thing we’ve been doing for years people, you’re just putting fancy names and certifications on top of it now.13

So I have attended AWS tech bootcamp yesterday and today.
One thing I notice is everyone either have Mac laptop or other laptops with Win10.
I'm probably the only one with Linux distro. 🤔
I feel special and at the same time, lonely.7 -
Don't you just love it when the lead developer/project manager comes in and totally revamps your code even though it does the same exact thing as it was written before? And then when it's not working he blames you because it's in GIT as your commit...2

3rd time the DB schema has been completely redone since starting this project.
3rd time I'm rewriting the back-end of this login.
But... 3rd time I'm getting paid for the same thing so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1 -
I only see rants here about people who post to StackOverflow. I use it a lot but all questions i wanted to know were usually answered so I just had to search for them. I never posted something there and don't even have an account. Anyone else doing the same thing?4

COBOL is something I use at work. Typically, you see IF blocks like this
IF condition
Stuff
END-IF.
But the END-IF part if actually optional. You can just use a period and it does the same thing.
IF condition
Stuff.
Many headaches if not caught when reading.6 -
So Apple, you're telling us developers that instead of using keyboard shortcuts, we're supposed to use the touch bar instead? Oh and also carry 20 adapters to do the same thing we could do with the 2015 MacBook Pro?

Fuck you, autocorrect.
If I type the same thing, the exact god damn same cunting thing, multiple times will you just fucking accept that I am actually intending to write that word and move on?!
You fucking cunt!1 -
Python prorammers ignore this.
Oh so now we got a fucking new fight started on devRant on which line to put brackets on.
Fucking why!!??
Both conventions basically mean same thing and even no fucking ide is partial about the fact.
Stop it!8 -
Public feature request: If we tap at "devRant", the feed refreshes. Can we have the same thing for rants? My shitty internet at home is fast, but choppy so when I check my notifications and it doesn't load the rant, I have pretty much no idea what that notification was about.2

Today I dropped and updated a database to override it with local changes. Turned out the same dB was used by another project.
I just destroyed a week worth of work and content.
Good thing I took a dump before dropping everything. Got it running in 5 Minutes7 -
I gave you a chance, Nvidia. It could have been a good thing, but no. You are still crap. About two years ago, my son's graphics card (an Nvidia) died, so I thought, I'll give him my nice Radeon card, and got myself a new card. For some reason, reason failed me, and I got a GTX 1070. It's been a nice enough card, and worked well. And then the last driver update happened. Fallout 4 started to CTD before it even booted to the main menu. Me, not thinking (again) thought it was a mod, so I uninstalled and deleted and reinstalled again, with all 120 mods. Nope. Still crashing. Then I noticed, as the game booted, the fans started to ramp up, and I could tell exactly when it would crash be the sound of fans. I was expecting the computer to taxi out the room. Rolled the driver update back to the last one that worked. Now I can log in again, and things are mostly stable. Still crashes, but not as bad, probably due to reloading the mods and missing something. When the RX 3080 hits the market, bye bye Nvidia. You haven't changed a bit over the years. We're through.8

999 frameworks that do the same thing and every year 1 of them becomes the fad and many things written in last year's fad gets rewritten in new one.2

One thing I wanted to say here before:
The more the community of DevRant grows, the more "repeated" posts it will have. It's totally usual on social networks when they start to grow.
So, instead of saying bad things to people who post the same stuff, just ignore it and keep the community growing. :)2 -
So the incompetence of this knob-head are unbelievable, so in our company there's a particular method that required to return object specific way like
{
'a' : 'b',
{
'c' : 'd',
'e' : 0,
}
};
}
which somehow will be use everywhere in the project, I decided to create a constant class therefore anyone can use it and prevent redundant code. (re write the same thing over and over again). He decided to tell me to rewrite the same method for every-time I needed to return data.
My method is to avoid writing the same thing in repetition , that is why I place a method in a constant class where I call every-time I need to return those data in the specific way.
But he prefer writing it in repetition. OMG13 -
I probably just found out that a table in our db has two columns for the same thing. And yes, the numbers are non-trivial and do not always match each other. My senior is now looking into it and it seems hilariously painful.2

I'm a little confused here. How are "viruses" different from "exploits" in Linux? The way I see it, they're the exact same thing. Although "exploit" makes it sound cool 😂14

"Hey, maybe we should do this! Why aren't we doing this?"
We are, this is on the roadmap and we just discussed it last week. Why bother discussing and documenting it if you are not even gonna read it? I'm tired of repeating the same thing over and over again.1 -
A simple poll
Let's say there is a program or whatever sort of thing that does the exact same thing except the gui...
1. A shitty gui with default buttons, etc but with ok paddings and margins so that it is a bit usable (if it is a web app, no css) -- 5MB
2. A super cool 1337 h4X0R looking gui with awesome animations -- 100MB
What is your choice?20 -
Fucken Designers - Have you ever heard of fucken consistency?

Most useless feature: an extension that did the exact same thing as an opensource extension so that the company could hide the code and not include licenses (???)
ps.: they obviously used open source frameworks and libraries -
It's weird listening to my father "rant" about all the things he has to fix when visiting his parents, some welding, changing tire and switching lightbulbs. When he does the exact same thing with me regarding laptops, routers, smartphones and tablets..2

DevRant should have a sort by random I am tired of reloading and get basically the same thing but in different orders2

Here comes the sleep time again. Now I will think about all the amazing stuff that I can build tomorrow and make it big out there just to wake up and do the same thing again and again till I go to sleep and repeat this cycle. Peace.

IHateForALiving: I created a trigger on the model, every time you perform a save it should fire an event. You're calling the same methods I am, and the trigger is NOT firing. Are you sure we are running in the same process?
TheTeamLeader: I'm manually starting this whole piece of code in your same process, there must be something wrong on your side if it's not working
90 minutes of debugging later
TheTeamLeader: there's the thing! Your hooks are registered in a separate process, of course they are not firing

Weekly status reports. BITCH, I'M TOO BUSY WORKING TO TELL YOU WHAT I DID THIS WEEK.
Mine are also almost always the same:
"fixed broken thing"
"worked on reports for broken thing"
"helped new teammates fix broken thing"
ISSUES REQUIRING ATTENTION:
"my connection is still shit, like i warned would happen before I moved"
"need workstation already connected to network to reduce connection problems"
These don't help the people who need to be micromanaged, and they just piss off those of us who don't.5 -
Ever got that thing, when your IDE says that you have a syntax error in your code, and you reread it again and again and just can't see it, so you just delete the whole thing and write it again - exactly the same - but now it compiles fine?3

So in my company there is one other person that has exactly the same first name and last name as me, but that doesn't do dev thing.

When searching for "microsoft" in Ubuntu apps, it results in all libreoffice apps. And similarly, a search for "microsoft word", shows "libreoffice writer" as a result and same thing happens with other microsoft office products.
A very simple thing but pretty neat if you ask me.6 -
When management hire consultants to tell them the same thing you're telling them. It's just more meaningful because they paid more for the information.1

Sensible question but I am asking it here!
As you know wifi packets can be sniffed using kali and a wifi adaptor.
I was wondering if the same thing can be done about car remote using raspberry pi ?

Of course the first thing I do when I sat at my desk is to update my Firefox. And I realized that chrome also needs an update.
I remember clearly that I just updated everything yesterday. So Google released updates on the same date as Mozilla.
Coincidence? Don't think so.1 -

Finally, after 42 days of in development, I can proudly say my game reached Alpha stage. All core mechanics are in place. I hope I'll be able to say the same thing for Beta in next 6 weeks too!
To be honest, I could do it better, but I didn't had much time.11 -
so now they even have a name for not being an idiot...
its called a "composible" architecture as apposed to a "monolith"
what if i told you it's all the same?
(i'll even throw in a bonus and say that a "microservice" architecture is still a monolith - because you need all your damn microservices working together for the full product or service anyway!!! and thats a monolith!!!!)
wow, you've "decoupled" your frontend from your backend? with this fancy thing called an "API"? well, what the hell else was anyone doing in the past decade? ITS THE SAME THING YOU DUMBASS
god i swear its 🤡 all the way down, just inventing new words for the same thing over and over again. idiots. idiots everywhere
i'm just so happy we have "composible" architectures now ❤️ thank god for that6 -

1. Some consider IE and Edge to be the same thing (when they are not - https://developer.microsoft.com/en-... )
2. Java is better than C# (which I have heard some people say)?7 -
So we have 4 web apps that do basically the same thing with some nuances...

QA PERSON 3: "Nah, it's not a big deal, just let it pass... it's going to be easier for everyone. It's not a critical thing."
On the dev side:

For God's sake why can't you just keep consistency across your fucking files? I have to parse 3 different XML files from the same source where I have "ZipCode", "zipCode" and "Code" for the same thing.
Not to mention that the file that contains all the streets in the country have literally one street node for every motherfucking street. Not one city parent and multiple street children that would make sense and would be faster to parse, but clearly that wasn't your intention you retarded cunt.2 -

It's amusing seeing something new on r/ProgrammerHumor and a few hours later seeing the same thing posted to devRant. Almost like there's a bot with a 2 hour delay posting to devRant.1 -
Creating the same picture in drawing class, and by making a turtle walk across the screen.
That's also when I realized painting was never to be my thing.1 -
I thought iPhone simulator was ONE THING that worked smoothly but NO, it is also a load of crap, hogging away the memory. Can’t develop ANYTHING without spoiling the mood because of this slow performance. It’s the same with android studio, Xcode, android emulators, and now simulator with vscode is doing the same thing. It’s 2020 you’d think a developer can write code smoothly on a huge MacBook Pro but no what a fucked up world, I’m hungry again, I have eaten up everything what to do I hate fruits !!7

Guess fullstack is now the trending thing. Read a book on javascript and code examples in the book, do same thing with python or any other backend.
As soon as you are done, add fullstack to your bio.
So many newbies following this path. Coding up alot of examples with no real depth in any particular language.6 -
F**k this. Exactly The same site is displaying differently. Only thing changed? On left access is by local IP, on right by URL using no-ip.
Apparently it grabs CSS from project on another port7 -
Are u fkig kidding me
Just when i wrote this post a few hours ago
https://devrant.com/rants/2064722/...
Devrant asked me this question about the same thing....
What2 -
One of my relative thinks I spend all my time googling and searching the web. She thought that another relative of ours was also a programmer because he does the same thing. He was a commerce student.1
-
Every time I read some script kiddy insult here I just think: "you propably did the same thing 10 years ago, not JS but PHP, but it was the same level of shitfuckery and the C/C++ Devs looked the same way at you you look at NodeJS developers now."1

Nothing shits me more than being interrupted every two hours for a "huddle". Shove your buzzword up your ass and fuck off so I can actually get some work done. What am I currently working on? The same fucking thing I was doing before you interrupted me again for a status update.1

@dfox
Notifications are busted again!
++ still come through, but mentions are dead 🥲
Anyone seeing the same thing?4 -
!rant, story
Wonder if I’m alone on this:
I have habits.
Always use the same cup, with very same amount of coffee grounds. Same four presses with the same fingers on the coffee machine.
Same way I place the cups in my desk. Same way I carry my notebook, same way I dry my hands. Same exact spot I place my card on the rfid reader. Use same elevator, same locker. God.
You name it, I do it on my own particular way.
Thing is, that I think about it. I do it consciously. I am just happier if things stay the way they are. It not just muscle memory thing.
Not judging here, just wonder if there’s people who can relate as much 🧐7 -
When I was doing replacements in a text file manually and some smug coder did the same thing in 5 min after I'd spent a day doing it ...2

I refuse to believe that I'm the only person with a text file full of my frequently used scripts in different languages with no particular assortment
Because I find it slightly stupid to rewrite the same thing over again every single damn time7 -

SQL collation conflicts are the worst thing that has ever been made possible in humanity... it's 1000 times worse than problems with time zones, change my mind.

Question PHP folks. Is it a standard to write:
public function hair()?
Writing only:
function hair() is just the same thing to the above. It will default to "public" hair right? 🤔 maybe just a PSR-2 standard or for readability? Thanks!3 -
I've seen some of the videos that I downloaded from the internet are only playable through one particular application. How did they do it? How can I implement the same thing with my application? What technology should I research on to know more about this?28

const int pi = 3.14;
This is the worst example ever to explain what a constant is to students.
I knew a lot of guys who think that math constants and programming constants were the same thing4 -
Am I the only one who hates Java but really likes C#?
I don’t know why, they’re basically the same thing, one is basically just a Microsoft clone of the other16 -
First thing Wednesday morning, fired up the macbook, opened vs code, ran the same unit tests that were passing last night, 1 failure! FML.
For some reason an Angular form that was valid with the same data last night isn't this morning. Probably some crappy date issue in the mock data1 -
I hate web development, I didn’t study CS to make web sites, I like learning new things but when web development is involved and especially certain libraries and frameworks, it seems that I always have to learn again the same thing with a different flavor and I feel stuck in the same place… and at the end of the day it is always form this, validate that, download those AARGH!!
Maybe it is just a bad day6 -
One advice I've given to most junior developers which they've practically benefited from is...
"Avoid duplicate comments between interfaces and their base class at all times".
As a smartly-lazy dev, you shouldn't enjoy writing same thing multiple times... be it code or comment, don't write it twice!2 -
When the web conf guy bores you with very stupid and slow tech! 😐
I already have better tech for the same thing, why do you even bother to sell yourself!2 -
Oh look I'm posting the same thing again because all logical patheways lead to the same fucking place.
Sort of binary tree with a few keys added visualized.7 -
I hate the word "Proactive"
What does that even mean? You add the prefix pro- to the word "active" and you get the same thing! Why not just say active?!
We're talking an active approach
We're taking a proactive approach
See, they mean the same thing and the first version doesn't make you sound like a douche.12 -

Does every project have that guy who likes everything organized and strives for it, but at the same time there is nothing to organize because he doesn't do a thing?

So after working on a website for like a month to make it kinda pixel perfect in every resolution on every device the web designer just tells me "ok, you should move this whole thing up 30px"
Ok, no problem, I change the CSS for that div and make it all go up 30px
The very next day he tells me the while thing is fucked up and not aligned any more
I mean, is was all the same as before, nothing changed! -
man you can tell some of these course selling companies are poorly managed (or rather, perhaps NOT managed) when you have to do the same thing over and over again for over TWO YEARS
HELLOOOOO WHAT ARE YOU DOING... PLEASE PUBLISH MY COURSE NOW

IIS curse you and your nuances!
I launch my local web application (which was working fine) and now get CORS errors and 404 not found. Wtf. I clean the solution rebuild, same thing. Then I restart my PC and try again. Same thing.
Then I use Firefox instead if chrome and it magically works. Wtf!

That feeling when you mess up and you need to add a new commit and mention in the commit message that the previous commit ( that you created ) was a mistake.
I'd be happy to do the same thing if it was someone else's mess up.2 -
After a whole weeks working, I understand that developing a responsive html email for outlook is something totally different with doing the same thing for other mail boxes.9

You know what's fucked up a part of debugging? Preparing a fucking word "report" document, in which the table wouldn't align properly.
Seriously, I hate my university's grading criteria. They ask first to send 'weekly reports', and after internship ask for 'final report' which consists the same fucking thing. -
Sass.
I'm using the @use directive to avoid bundling the same thing a hundred thousand times.
Sass doesn't give a flying fuck and bundles the same thing a hundred thousand times
Why you must hurt me like this5 -
When angular developer is trying to explain the difference between the directive ngClick and ngSubmit.
NGClick allow you to execute custom functions when an element us clicked. NgSubmit, do the same thing but it's different.2 -
One intern showed me an issue he was facing. "Delete" button was not working in a HTML page he had developed, but edit button is working properly. I checked the code both buttons had same id "edit72-btn". I said to him you need to use unique id in a page.
The thing he said next made a speechless. I was just looking at his face.
He said "edit72-btn and del72-btn are almost same, couple of characters are different. Are they going to work?"1 -
Scala is as horrible as Java. Been using Java at uni and once having discovered the simplicity and beauty of other languages (Python, golang), never went back.
Currently trying some apache projects (kafka streams, apache flink) where Scala is native. Same crap as Java. Needs 10x lines to write the same thing, abstraction over abstraction, and intuitive = 0. Why tf did it even got invented?6 -
When waiting for that Cronjob to run to confirm its working okay, then modifying the script and go through the same thing over and over again.

If I just try another way to do the same thing my broken code tries to do, either the new version makes my mistake obvious or everything just works.
Is this debugging? It's just rewriting. It seems faster than debugging. -
Misused phrases by non-tech people I can't stand in 2020: "the new normal" & "telework". It's like how in 2018 everyone used "algorithm" like they knew what they were talking about. Same thing in 2007 with "accelerometer".7

wtf devs, you working hard to make updates and then complaining other apps doing same thing: making themself better. wtf?1

GoDaddy has had me on hold to fix a WordPress update issue that is likely their fault. I've been on hold for 41 minutes. And their hold music is the same stuff that's been playing for over 2 years now, that I'm aware of. Send help. Good thing this is all billable time.5

Tiktok hearing. What a shitshow and blame game. These idiots who don't produce anything crying foul, meanwhile facebook, instagram, google, bing does the exact same thing.
It was a predetermined kangaroo court. Reflects of the US decline. And yeah idiots who also don't build anything will complain about tiktok without understanding anything.13 -
Frameworks piss me off... So many to out there that are over engineered and complicated... And achieve exactly the same fucking thing...2

Looks like there are new horribly regurgitated packages in python nowadays which somehow my boss keeps finding I don't know how , which have shorter commands that take more and more time to run because they are just attaching these smaller tags to bigger tags and so on.
And my boss doesn't understand that there's such a thing called as overhead time ffs and it takes the same fucking time to run that same shit and maybe more because the new packages don't have a proper fucking API.2 -
That's what you want to see first thing in the morning.
Even worse, I slept about 3 hours last night on the same repo. -
I got frustrated with my code. I decided to open a new file and rewrite everything with better descriptive names to variables, and combined 3 functions that basically did the same thing into one to be called. It cent nice until my shift was up and I had to go home.1
-
Damn I hate js in the browser. I fixed a bug, but I don't understand what caused it or how my fix works.
I have 2 semantically identical elements that do the same thing, one of them crashes, while the other doesn't. Screw it!3 -
Dependency injection is the most useless piece of crap ever invented. Convention over configuration my ass.
It simplifies nothing a good architecture and pattern can't solve. It's just the current trend but it's the hugest pain in the ass I've ever experienced. It just adds complexity to the project.
I think it's just a thing for masochists and lazy devs, but then why not sticking a huge dido up your ass it's the same fucking thing.12 -
The company where I work decided to create their own cloud infrastructure. On Wednesday, our instances were down until almost 4pm. Today, so far same thing. I just want to work :(

what i hate about school projects is that they ask for the pseudocode of the the whole code. like seriously, its the same thing anyway. its not like we're gonna implement it in some other language, in that case pseudocode is helpful.1

Most days I want to weep as I recognize having worked on precisely the same thing earlier but noone seems to want to admit it.1

Aaaand my fucking finger is fucked again.
Same finger!
FFUUUCCCKKKKK!!!!
The weirdest thing is: I DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO DESERVE IT!!! FFS, I was just riding my etwow in the street between cities.
Why... Now my finger is twice the size, itches and hurts driving me crazy.
WHYYYY??!!??11 -
So I moved to a new company.
When entered there at first working day, found one candle on my table. I suppose that former employee left it for me.
Hmm, do you think the same thing as I do ?6 -
Since updating already has the same fields as while registering minus a few fields (password roles etc), is it better practice to:
1) create a brand new model class dedicated with the exact same duplicate fields that are required to be set in order to be updated (has the exact fields allowed to be updated)
2) or use the same model class that was used to register the whole thing (this has all the fields including the ones which arent allowed to be updated, so programmatically you'd have to target only fields that you want to update)2 -
Does wanting to leave a company simply because of legacy code with no documentation and too much work a bit reason? I guess it probably is as anywhere could have the same thing :) Maybe management would be better suited for me, time to take courses8

Some days I just want to move to a bigger city, to get in touch with other kind of people, to get insights of my ideas, to hear about unsuccessful projects.
I know the Saint Internet is there to bring people together, but it's not the same thing.3 -
One of those mornings when you come in and there's a request from a manager that says to copy the same thing you have been doing into another report. Violation of DRY much?

I programmed a "crypographic" tool in python as my first application. It calculated the checksum of the entered password and preformed this cesa-shift-crappy-crypto thing. It was named crypto_mario and as I wasn't able to implement the decryption in the same application, I wrote a second one for that task, called crypto_wario

Im put on this project.. But i don’t feel taken seriously.
Lead dev says: go make some html templates. Meanwhile, he is building the exact same thing in the cms.
Right, so what is my work worth then? Nothing -
Client: I want the same navigation style as xyz.com. You can just use that "inspect element" thing you showed me to download it, right? I'm sure it will only take you 2 minutes.

When you answer the same question, from the same guy, for the Nth time about why this thing you developed N months ago works as it was designed, based on his requirements.
And at the end you can't really be mad, because he is super friendly and being sorry for that... again... -
Fucking Apache Maven. We are required to use it at university and it's shit. Sometimes I think that successful usage relies solely on the position of the stars in our galaxy, since stuff will work after trying same thing again five times.
Maven == Insanity -
There's always ten different ways to do the same thing. There's never a need to do it the same way until there is, and then you're fucked.1

Been working at the same company for 3+ years. The most frustrating thing is that I'm now grouped with the other devs on skillet. The other devs have been there for 6, and 1 months.
Darn hierarchy. -
People who write php and laravel together as their skills are the same who think knowing Microsoft word is the most impressive thing about them. Because notepad is too mainstream.1

Setting up a task with windows task scheduler is fucking confusing if you need time-based repetition. At least if you're not doing it in english. Some options seem like the same thing, some are probably badly translated.2

I feel stupid about once or twice per day because of samll and obvious mistakes I make.
But maaan I feel dumb as fucking rock when I read the Docker documentation, I don't understand any fucking thing, and as usual, I can't find 2 websites with the same opinion about anything
I JUST WANT TO MAKE MY THING WORK, PLEASE -
Trying to explain the difference between infrastructure as code and infrastructure as a service to someone who thinks they mean the same thing. When I thought it's all good he asked me:
- So, does AWS offer IaC as a service?

Are there any class based JavaScript test frameworks? I dislike the whole describe/it setup. I know it's basically the same thing, but I prefer the class setup in .net with xunit. I like being able to write abstract classes for tests..2

with all of this experience and working with so many different people I learned.
No, matter where you switch, everything is same the only thing matter in the end is whether you get coffee served on your table or you have to make it yourself. -
The thing about startups is that you have the opportunity to be involved in a lot of different things. I easily get bored with repetitively doing almost the same thing day in day out.
In my current company, I have been working on the same mobile app for close to two years. It’s the same basic thing, build UI, make API calls, and fix bugs. I am so bored that I’m fit to climb a wall. Anyways, I’ve started applying for backend positions.
But then startups are volatile and things are almost always unorganised.2 -
I know lets create a method that does nothing like this other method, but call it the same thing with 'get' in front. Won't confuse anyone at all that3

Manipulating the spec by taking shortcuts and having certain config values do the same thing at a different place to cut down on code bloat. Let's hope the customer is happy with it.

Cooperation with a graphic company is like a never-ending story. Return them styles to fix something, they fix the thing, but also break few other things. 😒
Now they fixed colors of links in main menu, but also made the text color in a context menu same as its background... 😫 -
Starts a new project in school with a colleague. Write some code, a lot of code, just to find out, that he "optimized" my code and now all of my code looks completly different but does the same thing wiht same performance.
Colleague: The code is now better

Learning vue and it's lovely, except FUCKING V-MODEL I'm literally 10 hours of tutorials in and I still have no clear idea what the thing does, I'm pretty sure it's like 2/10 complexity thing but someone just HAD TO name it V-MODEL so that it doesn't give you a slightest hint of the actual functionality, like you might as well have named it v-cable or v-oompaloompa, it would have the exact same information value (none).3

3D Touch by Apple was one of the most amazing thing ever but as always, Apple managed to make it useless. How? Keep what 3D Touch does same as long press. Stupid!!
Why didn’t Apple keep use of 3D Touch different? Like maybe long press (Haptic touch) for Haptic Touch menu and 3D Touch for quick copy or paste the text. 3D Touch some word instead of selecting and waiting for copy button to come and 3D Touch the textbox to paste. But noooooo they will keep it exactly same as what every other thing does and call it useless and remove it.6 -
I work on a larger team where we do continuous integration so there is a high probability people will be working on the same files for different features. As a result, one of the best feelings is grabbing the latest files and not having to diff first thing in the morning.

After few weeks I got back to an Electron app. Rebuilt the thing, copied fresh binaries to a Win 10 VM, and the app doesn't even start, it instantly crashes. Literally nothing changed - libraries (and their versions) are same, source code is the same, node version is same, it was built on same machine, VM wasn't even started since then.
Tried a fresh Tux binary, and of course it runs fine.
God, I hate Windows. 😩2 -
WTF?! One thing I could count on was the Sun not exploding this year. Then I see this shit!

Contractor: I've finished those data receipt RAG reports for each of the feeds.
Me: OK, cool.
git fetch
