It's a part-time paid internship to work at the IT help-desk for a company. Not hugely glamorous, but for the first job in my whole life, I am pretty excited & happy 😊

I'm 4 days old to this company. I spent 40 minutes debugging why the internet is not working. I asked the IT Guys for the support and they said everything is good.

So why the fuck is the internet not working? I rant at them. The IT Guy told me to calm down and then he will help me. So I calm down and again went to ask for help. He said that he will check it out after breakfast.

I'm so sad today. I completely lost my confidences in what I do. I recently I created an app , spent 72 hours doing that , made the app as simple as possible, The intention is clear , to help those who are in need during this pandemic.

Recently my country have the campaign (initiate by the people) raising white flags for help (food, financial help). Since our government begin to arrest those who raise their flag for help and summoned them for MYR 3000 .

So I thought making a platform where people can raise their flag digitally might be easy, but I go rejected .

Well in Malaysia, No one give a fuck about you unless you are a celebrity . Sometimes I wish I am , therefore I do changes. But unfortunately I am just a 25 year old self taught software engineer but not someone with PHD or fame .

My friend ranting as his boss provided him a routine to make life more structured.

Earlier this day (or yesterday, timezones 'n stuff) I posted a "rant" about my new Project:

"The Spigot Web Framework" - a Tool that should help Owners of Minecraftservers without dedicated Webserver and knowledge about developing a website.

In the Screenshot below I show you guys, how few lines of code can make a beautiful website.

The Modulemanager is fully done and people can build their own Modules, which can be live updated.

I am currently working on "cross communication" between the Client and the Modules.

Aren't the system admin supposed to figure out how to install something on their server when a developer has requested something from them?

They seem to have no idea when I request them to install php gd extension. They also cannot give me a ssh access to their server. So I have to troubleshoot/help by sending one command and ask for the output from them and give another command to run through mail.

I work as a lead dev on a gmod server of a pretty big german community. With the fun stuff, there come the duty‘s to help Jr. Devs or even help people get into Developing. The part, where you help junior devs is always fun, but what I find interesting is the part where you help people learn coding. It’s not easy work, but you learn more every “lesson”. I catch myself exploring and learning something new, even if I know the topic. For me it’s a new journey every time.
Not sure if there are many people who can relate but I just wanted to tell my side on it.

Here's an actual rant: I don't know if I chose the right university course, anymore.
I chose "Informatics", but there are so many subjects that aren't even related to Informatics, and still I have to do them because that's how it is. I just wanna do programming, because I like the creative aspect of it.
I'm getting sick of this to be honest... I'm at my second year, now, and I feel like maybe... I should've just studied programming on my own, and seek a job without going through university.
Though, that being said, I may just be temporarily having a bad time. I don't know, ok?

It seemed I did okay, in my first year, I completed 4 exams out of 7, but now I don't know anymore.
The exams for this semester's subjects are coming up in a couple months, and I haven't exactly learned much, y'know...? I couldn't follow most of what the professors said in the lessons, for whatever reason (some professors talk too quietly, some don't explain well, etc.).

What was your experience with university, if you ever went there? Did you find it helpful, or was it a waste of your time?

So, I've been wanting to learn C++ for a couple months now - decided to get a good book yesterday (Professional C++ 3rd Edition) on the language to help guide me through the more advanced concepts.

Am I missing out on some hotness here? I know some schools are moving away from Java centered education to Python to help ease people into programming. Not a rant but as an intern that is older than several of the members of the team I'm assigned to, including my mentor, it was still nice to be complemented on my ability to find workable solutions on my own rather than running for help whenever there is a problem.

I thought it was rather weird to be complemented on this but apparently how I work isn't always the norm.

I've been at this for 7 months now; it was great for the first 2 months, now I can't seem to get my ass together.

I still get my work done, but that's the problem.
Because I'm not motivated to stick to the schedule I've made, I'm chipping away at my non-work time to get the work done.

I am currently doing my graduation in computer science(in 3rd year). I love to code problems and have an experience of working in various languages like c, c++, java, javascript, html, css, python, swift. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, finished an arch linux install, fixed my slow internet connection in linux, installed only the things I need, vs code and google chrome but fuck me!

Google chromes performance is sinking like a rock, dropping about 25-40% of frames in youtube, slow page loading and the sort.

Installed firefox to ensure it wasn't my system and its all running perfect, I don't like using firefox and want to go back to the warmth of chrome, anyone able to help on this one :-(

Just spent the last few days learning about unity's custom editor stuff.

Gotta say it's really fun making tools that help setup stuff a lot easier

The thing I made has a bunch of actions and you randomize the action thats picked. You give each action a % chance and even have a % decrease when the action is used.

I ended up adding in a simulator in the inspector so you can test without even running the game :D pretty happy with the result!

Always make your code readable before you stop working on it.
Not just for other people to learn from but also for yourself.

Using RGBL + 3 28BYJ steppers.

Just have one tiny problem and need help...
The resolution isn't right... Instead of moving mms, if I send a move of 64mm (one stepper revolution) it just turns one time instead of moving 64mm... Where are the settings to change this?
Btw this is the best birthday present ever, from me to me :-D also... My parents bought me a 3D printer, waiting for it to arrive... Me happy today

Working on a project, it has a messages feature.
Currently it supports text messages and images.

The guy before me had to leave, so I was put in charge on this project, to develop it.. all alone...

-PDF files can now be sent.
-Looks at the sent messages-
-Message is there but I... I cant see the PDF file-

Moments later I discover the entire system is non-modular... hard-coded images only support.

We all have that one colleague who asks for help with his code and when you try and talk about it, he acts like he's got everything figured out.

These guys are so frustrating,if you know it already why'd you call me in the middle of the night to fix an important bug.

Guys I need your help, I'm considering the corporate life, and I have two major options

Option A:
A software factory where I would be working on maintaining existent systems and adding features, but I would learn a lot with their shadow program.

Option B:

I've tried Ionic in the past, and put off development with it because I couldn't get it to be performant without crosswalk.

In 2015, React Native put an end to the 'Are hybrid apps viable?' argument. It had a much smaller compile size, large component library, and is very reactive.

Ionic recently released news on scaling back their tools to focus on core offerings. I can't help but feel they're flogging a dead horse.

I'm sure the Ionic team has very smart people on board. Can't they see they're about to be 'Parse-ed'?

Started Data Science course on big data universuty. The outcomes are heavily dependent on domain experts/stakeholders!!! Since all the answers are false positives and need to decide what make sense with the help of domain experts. And most of the Data scientists are not from programming background, they are domain experts who turned into Data scientists. A few years ago I volunteered to help at a open day of my high school where I would help kids with small programming tasks to show them what the Information Technology subject was about.

During that open day every visitor had a stamp card where they could collect stamps from various subjects to win a prize, in other words, if you wanna win a prize you gotta program something in the classroom where I was.

It was so amazing to see some kids going in overspeed and finishing the exercises without help and even going further by working on the exercises that weren't required for a stamp (we're talking about blockly exercises).

On the other hand there were a few kids who couldn't wait to get out of there once they 'finished' the first exercise.

I wonder how many of them will be programming as a job or as a hobby in the future 😁

We had no idea why or how it went down but eventually someone got it up- just in time for our Proxmox server to go down; which runs our new web server (thankfully it's not live yet), our print server, our PXE server, and more... Started a new frontend developer/designer/graphic designer job recently. I feel technically capable, no problem there. Just noticing a pattern of repeatedly missing deadlines.

Its a very busy office, with various people all coming to me with things they need me to do. Never worked in an environment so busy before.

Doesn't help that they force me to manage my tasks by spreadsheets, communication by email, deployment by filezilla and no version control, but not convinced I'd still meet deadlines if I had a better setup.

Why is auto renewal forced now on subscription services now? I don't want to have to cancel my service by jumping through hoops and explaining why I want to cancel it before finally cancelling it. I've had to help my parents unsubscribe from a few services because it was too confusing for them to do themselves and they've just let them suck from their wallets for half a year.
I am even angrier at long "free trials" that you are REQUIRED to enter payment information for so that they can charge you once it's over if you don't remember to cancel it after a month and a half. Can't we just go back to auto renewal being an option, please?

How should I put this... I have REALLY enjoyed help desk job more than anything thus far.

I've seen people posting about how dumb clients may be, and I know there's also those cases, but ultimately those are usually just good inspiration to comedy.

So here's the background: I was working in growing website development company (marketing called it digi-office for some reason). The clients were firms ranging from local bakeries to international suppliers.

The intriguing thing with working in help desk was usually smaller tasks and direct customer contact through e-mail. I got feedback (which always important) and the rush of good feeling at the end of every task; faster and more frequent than working on a year project. But the cherry on the cake is that I got to investigate problems within each websites' and the CMS's code base, fix them or point out bigger flaws in systems and blame others from them. 😂

How your help desk experience differ? Or do you also recognize the good side?

But my main problem currently are the translations. I've created them using Google translator mostly for the languages I don't speak.

Ok so I love being a programmer, but I've been programming for about 6-7 years now and to this day, have nothing to show for it.

I hate that I'm a no compromise sort of person but it means I just can't settle for something, I want to deliver a flawless and engaging product with plenty of polished features, but I'm 1 person trying to do what teams of devs do.

I even have a couple programmer friends that a couple years ago were begging to collaborate with me for there project but as soon as I ask them about collaborating they suddenly have a different view -,-

I've kind of run into a wall when it comes to programming lately. I'm following this course on Udemy for Python, but the next section (that I need to do to be able to continue) uses (outdated) bokeh stuff, and I don't know enough to be able to figure out how to get the same output without much hair-tearing and frustration.

To clarify, the videos uses bokeh.charts, but then there's a note added that says to use bkcharts, which is still outdated, so it doesn't help at all. I did contact the course tutor about it, and he is aware of it but he's got a lot of stuff going on, so I don't know when he'll have time to fix it. In the meantime, I'm stuck and severely lacking in the intellectual stimulation that is programming. :(

I -have- been trying to work on independent projects, but my problem is mostly that I just don't seem to be a frontend kinda guy, so I end up with only halfway-finished stuff. Does any poor soul here have advice on where to look, or (less likely) even have time to explain some stuff?

I don't know is it me or what, but I am really trying hard to get my hands on Vim and trying to get use it for all my daily development. But I don't know why I keep comming back to vscode thinking it will be faster to complete "this one task" in vscode and I will try vim later for other once 😐

Vs code feels more easy to move around project files, working in tabs etc etc. I do try to work on vim as well just for very silly bugs or something but I really want to switch to Vim full time but not able to convince my mind for the task in my hands at that point in time.

Motherfucker Udacity blocked my contents that I bought, due to some completion of term, which are ment to be accessed lifetime and saying to pay the fee again to avail them. Any suggestions what should I do?? I need those contents badly. Their fucking support executives are not even responding.

The problem underlined was communication problem. I'm in charge to maintain old project made by other engineer now an "upper dude". Upper dude and I have different views and at some point he start being unreasonable getting heated up looking down on me provoking me. I took the bait and it doesn't end well. The next day after lunch I'm scheduled with HR and well, fired.

I know he's provoking and I took the bait. At that point I don't know how to improve the situation other than saying yes to him so I just wing it. But if I did say yes, it would slowly cause problem which I'm not willing to handle. Its damn near stupid reason to do it his way and I don't want to do it.

Got an Idea but not sure how to proceed..

A server machine has antivirus and all client machine don't have AV. So I will use the server machine to scan files of client machine.

I implemented this idea using Java EE with the help of windows defender (using cmd via js code). Problem is that I am scanning only file at a time.

I decided to go a short, higher-level JavaScript course with Codecademy to help me nail down a few concepts and approaches to writing JavaScript code.

It turned out to be one of the best courses I've done. It didn't cover everything in detail. It is free so I wasn't expecting that.

Still, the topics it covered, it covered pretty well, and the hand-holding approach really helped give me a much better grasp of these concepts and models.

Is there a specific name for a spreadsheet/document that you give to someone (IE, school) who is financing the project you are working on, that explains in detail why all of those parts are needed? My school is requiring me to justify all of the parts they need to purchase for a robot I am building for a national competition (through the school).
I've never written a justification list/whatever it's called, and I'd imagine if I'd know the name, Google could help me with the rest. Unfortunately, Google couldn't help me figure out exactly what that type of document would be called.

See I'm a curious case.
Back when I graduated high school my father and I started a startup. We build an Android app revolving around personal safety. It was cool. Had news coverage. It flopped.

In the process off the two months time it took me to build the fucker I had to "Learn" Java and the Android SDK enough to push this app out.

I burned myself out and on top of that I felt like I did not really learn the language. So now years later I want to Learn C# for myself for game Development with unity. However I also want to learn Web Development Properly. Which I have tinkered with on and off since the old days of Xhtml when I built a website for my senior project in HS.

I still feel burned out. Anyone else with a similar feel. I know it's silly being burned after one failed project. But it does not help either that I rushed through learning Java did not retain fuck all and now I feel like I can't learn anything new because mental blockage. Even reading this sounds stupid.

Might also be new shiny object syndrome. Between C# and JS. Lol.

Client needed a fully functional e-commerce site with some custom logic in 3 days, which is required only for 2days for a contest. So we developed the site in WordPress in 2days, 1day testing and data upload.

So I'm not sure if there is any solution other than WordPress or platform like that to help in these kind of situations.

Guys need help. I have dual booted Antergos with existing Windows 10. After installating Antergos it did not boot, Windows 10 was booting directly.

So I fired a command in Windows 10 cmd
bcdedit set {bootmgr} /boot/efi
And then I was able to boot into Antergos via Grub bootloader.

Now the problem is that I can not see Windows 10 option in Grub bootloader.

I tried to Google the solution and I came to the conclusion that if I install the Grub again system should automatically detect the Windows installation.

But I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone faced this problem beofre?

So I went through this exercise maybe a year and a half ago and didn't get anywhere. But I'm sure with the help of fellow ranters I might get somewhere :D

What Macbook alternative laptops would you recommend? Criteria would include: Screen with similar resolution (2880x1800) and quality, built-in SSD, 15", 8GB Ram, i7 and hopefully not a multi colored body or keyboard... If it came with Linux you win.

Imagine the nooblet hell it would create if Python would throw actual errors all over the place if pep8 has been violated...

If only...

sidenote: I post this rant because I had to help my girlfriend and her project partner (for her study) because partner refuses to write readable code (no comments in the code at all as well) and both refuse to write in compliance with pep8 "because it's useless"
