Finally I found a webpage related to my bug.
The page is from 2004.
"Yes, yes! This is exactly the problem I'm having"
*Carefully reading each comments*
*Looking at scroll bar with stress*
*Almost coming to end, no signs of solution*
At the end the thread creator say: "Ah finally I've fixed the problem. Thanks everyone for helping"
*moment of silence*
WHY U NO SHARE THE GOD DAMN SOLUTION? YOU FUCKING IDIOT18
Me when I'm FREE :
Hmm, I don't have anything to do, let's sleep for 10 hours..
Me when I have to STUDY :
Let's watch that latest episode of Mr. Robot
Let's complete that side-project I started to 10 years ago..
Let's learn something new in Android Development...
Let's scroll devRant..20
When @dfox and @trogus scroll through their devRant feeds, is it considered slacking off at work, or properly debugging their software..? 🤔10
Announcing a few new devRant Android/iOS features, available immediately in the latest versions of the devRant app which just went live.
1. As pictured, you can now easily scroll to the bottom of any long rant by selecting “scroll to bottom” in the ... menu of any rant with >= 10 comments.
2. At the bottom of any rant that has at least 1 comment, you’ll now see a button that allows you to refresh the rant (and scrolls to the bottom) so you can see new comments if there are any.
3. Any rant can be refreshed by tapping the “Rant” title in the title bar.
How did we come up with these awesome ideas/decide to add these features? For most of them, we didn’t! At least 2 of these were recently requested by devRant users (some requested a bunch of times) and we heard everyone and saw how much these were needed. Remember, you can always suggested features in our GitHub issue tracker: https://github.com/devRant/devRant - we always appreciate feature suggestions and ideas for improvements!
Just to add one note - we still have plans to improve commenting functionality, but we’re hoping for the time being these additions make things a little more intuitive.
Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks everyone!23
when u try to find the error but the screen is too small so u have to scroll a lot more to see other lines20
"Function A returns a float, see Function B for more information."
- Alright! *Scroll*
"Function B returns a float, see Function A for more information."7
That moment when you find a question on Stack Overflow with the exact same problem that you're having and you scroll down only to find out that there aren't any replies yet.9
I can't watch others use a computer.
That's not how you ask google a question.
You're clicking the wrong way.
You click like an idiot.
Why are you scrolling like that? do you hate moving down the page so mutch it makes you scroll like that?
Why am i forced to sit through this?
When will this end?14
Today I needed the scroll lock key.
I was running a super long test suite, one which puts a green dot on the screen every 500ms, so you can't scroll up. I needed to view some output of an earlier command... in other words, I needed to lock the automatic scrolling of the terminal.
That is what the scroll lock key was made for.
A momentous occasion.
Then I found out that a while ago, I used the macro function of my keyboard to rebind the that key... to close the current terminal window. 😡7

@dfox Feature request
Could we have fully displayed rants ? Maybe as a setting disabled by default ?
I mean sometimes i'd like to relax and just mindlessly scroll, and having to tap to read longer rant and then tap back is, well, too much.
Especially when the rant ia only like 2 words above limit.16
Just who the fuck from apple thought its a good idea to make the FUCKING SCROLL BAR overlap, the FUCKING PROPERTY ARROWS, everytime i accidentaly hover over it? I cant change shit! I have to wait few seconds every time i accidentaly hover over the scrollbar so i can be able to FUCKING CHANGE the value!
Dear Apple Inc,
Fix your shit! We're paying 100$ a year for what? More bugs and toruture? I didnt sign up for this bullshit! Give us back some real quality products, or just buy the company Jetbrains and let them build the IDE for you instead.16
Just now a teacher opened Chrome with tons of unused, opened tabs. I literally shouted "ahh!" on first sight.
Then he opened another ton of programs and the Chrome logo disappeared from the taskbar(you have to scroll down). He said "Oops, I accidentally closed the browser". He opened Chrome from the 'search' in taskbar and proceeded to open another ton of tabs(STILL NOT REALIZING THE OVERLAPPING CHROME LOGO ON THE TASKBAR)
When did “responsive“ web design become synonymous with “huge f*cking images, big ass captions and needing to scroll vertically forever“?!
Although sites like that may look good on tiny mobile screens, on desktop screens they are just freaking me out. I am not blind, nor am I too stupid a visitor to handle denser paragraphs of text in a more sophisticated kind of layout! Geez...8

Sometimes I scroll or tap something on my phone with my nose
(Usually when I somehow can't use any of my hands to do that or I'm just too lazy)
Is that weird? Am I the only one?12
How my keyboard evolves:
0. Like any normal man, I started with a cheap standard Qwerty keyboard. As I began learning programming, I wanted something more elegant, so...
1. I've been using layout Dvorak (and then Programmer Dvorak) for like 5 years+ now. Anyone has intention to type on my machine soon gives up or even is blocked by me from the very start. It always takes a couple of minutes to explain to them what's going on here. They think I'm weird. I feel untouchable :)
2. My first mechkey was a 104-key Filco. Time flew by and I wanted my thing to be more compact so I went for a 66% and a TKL.
3. Recently I find out that though my keyboard is not a full-sized, there're yet some keys I've never touched (the bottom right modifiers, scroll lock, etc), so I look for a leaner one: HHKB and its alike but with slight remappings. Now I'm satisfied with the tiny, corners-trimmed keyboard but others look at it and ask how it is even possible to scroll the web page using the thing.
Prob 1: my boss can never type on my keyboard. Sometimes he still grumbles when he cannot correct my fouls right on my machine.
Prob 2: my keyboards at home and at work are not the same and some keymapping cannot applied to one of the two. That's async.28
I built an infinite scroll module today that loaded in more content when you scroll down. Issue was it sent a request for every pixel you scrolled.
Needless to say, many, many, many Ajax requests were sent to the server. Oops.4
Okay so if you click on my profile and scroll down (all the way to the end) my first post on devRant was about me making a website for my best friend and ask her out that way. An update on that... we got married :3
And this was the second post about it https://devrant.com/rants/704942/...8
I don't care how technically competent or how much experience you have...
A list of files is in alphabetical order 99% of the fricking time.
If I ask you to open "index.html" and have to watch over your shoulder as you hunt for it in the C,D,E section... and then you quickly scroll down to S,T,U and start looking there... I swear I will jam that wireless mouse where the sun don't shine.8
My dad has been using a Windows computer every day since 95. Yesterday he discovered that if you click the little tabs in the "details" view of the file explorer, you can sort the contents of a folder by name, date, etc.
I also tried to show him how to scroll with the mouse wheel, but he said it was too complicated, and he preferred to drag the scroll bar every single time.5
This happens everyday
> Picks phone up to test changes to mobile app
> oh look I got a notification
> Scroll, Scroll, like, like, lol, lmao, that's gross, lol, haha
> 5 minutes goes by
> Puts phone down
> Goes back to computer
> What the fuck am I forgetting....2
Encountered this is my computer science lab.
One of the most useless keys. Majority doesn't know what it does. And now there's two of it xD7
Person- Hey! are you a game developer?
person- Nice! so, you make games, right?
me- NO! I fuckin' scroll through my Twitter feed!
person- Ahm hah.. ok then, ttyl.
You know, sometimes I wish I had friends who knew how to code or new a bit about the programming world. Then I could show them my projects and they could help out of they wanted. I could also get them to properly criticize my designs and script. Instead of the ones that just scroll past your shit and say nothing at all, you know, people who would actually give a little bit of a shit. Sigh.6
Early morning I walk in to a build failure email.
"Oh shit! It failed and I'm on the Cc list."
"Please don't be me. Please don't be me. Didn't I build it already?" *compulsively launches local build*
*Ctrl-C's current build and feels angry for doubting self*
*Repeats, while trying to replay the incidents of last night in the head.*
"Fuck this. I'm certain I built the module."
.. scrolls email ..
"This is not even my change!"
.. scroll ..
"This is not even my code base!"
*feels foolish, but MAJORLY relieved*
FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!
Stop this INFINITE SCROLL BULLSHIT!!!
Or at least save THE FUCKING position I've been before clicking on an element!16
How to troubleshoot when running low on time:
- Google issue
- Open Stack Overflow link
- Scroll past question details and straight to answer.
- Pray question was relevant2
The moment you go to a site, and the scroll bar is so small you think the article is so long...But it's actually the comment section ...3
Received a call from client complaining about stupidity of google analytics. He could not get pass Terms and Conditions page. Saying "I agree" button is faded away and can not be clicked.
He just needed to scroll the page down.
What happened to people nowdays?2
Just spent 10 minutes teaching a client how to scroll on his computer after sending him the mock-up for his website.
The best part? I got him to learn by saying "pet the mouse"
Happiness 100 to 0 in 0.1234ms
For a second I was happy to see my ++ to 1110
I was like oh my god, I'm fucking getting the Avatar and stress Ball.
Later when I scroll through rants, I found it is in binary. Damn.10
So... We lost power here.
Why now?? I have work to do!!
I guess I get a free pass to scroll through Devrant for the next few hours.4
When somebody has already posted a question in the form of a long story, and you just scroll down with good feel but the question is still unsolved for 2 years.4
Just reviewed collegues code: 80 lines of if statements that are so long that I have to scroll sideways on my 27" screen. Just wrote the exact same thing in 5 minutes and 10 lines! If you don't know how to use loops in your code please learn something different and stop pissing off skilled devs 😡5
PM+UX: The boxes must stretch to fill the all the available width with no spaces in between, they must wrap to the next line, be 200px wide...sometimes.... and there should be no scroll bars all at the same time.
Me:so you want magic boxes that can just do whatever your thinking with no real logic defined...?1
Please add a rightie mode for devRant, like ++ & -- on the right so we can scroll and ++ easily :)7
A lot of people have asked me in comments if it is available in windows, macOS or linux. Just to clear this up that it's available on all platform including all linux distros.
1. Clicking on in-app notifications will now scroll to the relevant comment
2. You can scroll outside the column now. Your mouse cursor doesn't need to inside to scroll through the feed
3. Clicking ESC will close any open modal
4. Use arrow keys to scroll feeds
5. User can't subscribe himself anymore
6. You can press enter to log in
Get it from here: https://devrantron.firebaseapp.com
**I posted this yesterday night but removed it immedietly as I detected a huge bug in the release. Sorry 😞11
Web advertising has really gotten out of hand.
Most news sites dedicate more real estate to ads than actual content. Even worse, sites like Bloomberg scroll like a janky piece of shit because of all the gaddamn ads constantly loading resources, and phoning home to help the fucks spy on me.
Marketers ruin everything.6
Be nice if tapping on a comment notification would open the correct rant and scroll it down to where it actually happened 🙃15
when you watch a coding video and try to scroll the code because you just forgot it was on YouTube... 😫😫1
YOU FUCKING FUCK PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT XCODE I FUCKING WISH YOU DISAPPEAR FROM THIS FUCKED UP WORLD!
What I did:
1. Scroll right on "Magic Mouse"
2. Profit! (XCode crash!)7
whatsapp : * scroll *
reply : depend on last line happy sad whatever emoji ,sent same
devrant : *something important ,I must read everything*
Fuck these stupid frustrating trends. It drives me fucking crazy. Scrolling a website and sections overlap each other, text flying in as you scroll, stuff fading in, images moving over text panels. FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!!! I want to read the content, I don't want to feel sick and confused. Clients - DO NOT SEND ME A LINK TO THIS KIND OF WORTHLESS SHIT, SAYING 'I WANT IT LIKE THIS'.
Used sparingly and intelligently, animation can add to the UX, but it rarely is.
Remember the 90's when lazy designers used the photoshop bevel and emboss filter on every fucking thing, the web was contaminated. Cunts.1
You know you need sleep when you scroll on DevRant and everything becomes 3D. And I’m talking, you can see depth between the text and a solid background.
Welp, I’m off to sleep.5
Some websites are a disgrace to the internet and I wish there was a service that terminates them on a daily basis.
Really though, can you do some simple research about your users and see what will make their life easy?
You put the most important button of your website in a place where the I have to scroll down and looks for it. The beginning of your page has a stock picture that has no meaning or relevance to the topic of your page. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?
And your button, it doesn't even look like a fucking button. It looks like a normal text, which doesn't even react to hovering. At least change the cursor to pointer so that I can understand that it's a button.
Fuck you, your button and your useless stock picture.3
I just wanted to show what i built.
Devrant meet projector clock.
It uses atmega and one generic 7x5 LED matrix and some rtc chip.
It projects current time on the wall opposite in scroll manner.
I also want to add internet connectivity to it next. So as to show reminders and slack notifications. Work is on for that thing.
(If you want to build one here is the code
For fuck sake Facebook! do position:fixed for your goddam toolbar on mobile site because you have that fucking infinite scroll!3
When you found yourself trying to scroll your wireframe because you can't tell what's reality anymore.1
Let's make a WPF apllication... They said.
Let's add a ScrollViewer... They said.
Let's put a DataGrid inside the ScrollViewer... They said.
Let's disable scrollwheel on the DataGrid... They said.
Let's add a UserControl to a ColumnTemplate in the DataGrid... They said.
Let'a put a ComboBox with a custom template inside the UserControl... They said.
Now let's hope nobody tries to use the scrollwheel on the ComboBox.
Now I have to convince somebody that it's pretty much impossible to enable scrollwheel on the ComboBox.4
Finally got my Bluetooth earphones!
It's called Pamu Scroll, funded in Indiegogo.
I bought it for $49 without shipping fee.
Now let me write a review about it here after using for about an hour or so.
Shipment from China is slow and hard to track unless it is classified as EMS, which mine wasn't, obviously.
It has some shock protection layer, but without that, nope! It was staying still inside the packaging though.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Period. Just see the picture below.
It opens as a papyrus, maybe that's why it is called Pamu Scroll. Both the case's end, and earphones itself has magnets to hold each other.
It has a leather feeling to both the inside and outside of the case, and the touch control area of the earphones is also leather feeling, adding a nice touch that differs with other earphonnes.
The diamond feeling finish in the end of the case makes the case itself isn't earphones, more like some expensive jewelry case.
My ears are smaller than most people, for I am young, so it sometimes fall off when I jump, but when I put it the correct way, never falls out.
I am not an audiophile. I don't really care about the audio quality and how it sounds like unless the sound is too cringy and has so many white noise.
This earphones has white noise, but just a little bit, you won't notice except when you are in a quiet room.
The bass is boosted, but low sounds, and vocals can be cringy sometimes, so I should manually tune them with my phone's equalizer.
Not tested yet, but they advertise as using it in the shower.
7. Stereo call
Yup. Stereo call. Call in both ears. But only right microphone seems to get the voice.
Using BT 5, it is a breeze to connect.
Take both of them out, put to your ear, then ding! "Connected"
wireless charging for optional purchase - 10 bucks
You have 3.5 hrs of listening time in both ears, and you can charge 2 times more each by putting in the case.
Overall, it is awesome and let's just pray it doesn't break for at least for an year.
One side note, I can activate assistant by double tapping in the left ear (yes it is touch control), but my S8 asks me if I want to customize with Automate/Tasker. Yup!
Will share that later as well.
If you have any questions, ask me! Thanks for reading my first ever product review in devRant! <314
Don't scroll here.
Go and live a real life,
Don't make a computer screen as your world,
there is a beautiful world outside of your cave,
Talk with people's face to face,
Ok enough philosophy, Time to add new shit in current shitty code.
APPLE IM GONNA BURN YOU WITH GASOLINE.
So i want to send my build to app store, from my iphone.
I want to log into iTunesConnect.
"It just works"
Yeah, right. Login page for itunesconnect does not render correctly on Safari web browser, on iphone, login arrow is not visible, and elements are scattered around.
On Google Chrome, it looks okay!!!!!!!!!!!
After some tapping on screen, and rotating the device, i somehow found invisible arrow and managed to sign in.
BUT. Once inside i was unable to complete the process because UI refuses to scroll down :(
Navbar is cool now, better than the older one. But can you please move this circle for creating a new rant to the right? Actually it's all over everything and really disturbs. And possibly also fade it Out when you scroll.3
Y'all wanna see snail?(on Android app of devRant)
Scroll back and forth through your feed and watch the scroll bar.
Every time I search something on Stack Overflow, I get excited when it's word for word the issue I'm having. Giddy with excitement, I click the question and scroll down.
Every damn time "Question was closed due to being off-topic".
Even when it's totally on topic!
Anyone get this or do I have the worst luck on the planet?6
!Not a rant!
Open up Amazon.com on your PC. View source of the page in your Browser. Scroll all the way to the bottom and enjoy a easter egg comment from the Amazon devs 😀😀😀😁6
When devRant crashes on my Windows Phone due to scrolling too many rants and still there were more left to scroll. I suppose a higher power is giving me a sign to head to sleep!16
Small bug: If you scroll down a comment section fast enough, avatars will be wrong (last avatar...)13
@dfox the reply and modify buttons on the last comment in a rant on iphone6 is very close to the social media icons and comment button.
So close that its easy to hit the wrong one. A little extra padding in the bottom so that you can scroll half a centimeter more would help a lot.3
sends me a "screencap.avi" on slack. I download and open it, and it's a video of an IE bug where the width of the scroll bar itself takes up just enough that the content gets enough height to trigger a scroll bar to appear, so the whole page keeps twitching because the scroll bar keeps appearing and disappearing every second. LMAO FML FUCK IE7
Remember this: <marquee>This text will scroll from right to left</marquee> and does any still actually use it? 🤣6
Oh, a big "Learn More" button on the hero of your webpage. Let me click that. Oh, it slightly scrolls down to the bottom. I didn't expect that. Thanks for saving me some mousewheel flings. I appreciate it. Really.
Ladies and gentlemen.
I wanna introduce you one of the best tools on the market. My latest and greatest creation.
Da Notch (TM)
Have you ever thought "Damn, I would like to have this notch like iPhone X, but on my pc"? Well lucky you! With Da Notch (TM) you can bring iPhone X notch to your Windows machine! You can even change it's width with simply left clicking on it and using your scroll wheel. Isn't that great?
Get it here! https://gitlab.com/aathlon/...8
I find it amusing to scroll through lists of available freelancer jobs and see who has the most illegal and/or absurd request3
why is everyone's god damn answer in the corporate world fuking meetings?
you usually don't solve anything with them anyway, and there's too damn many
if you took the time to read the conversation, you'd know there's no meeting needed and the other party agreed to a method that wont break shit
or if you had half a brain and read the part of the chat you didn't even need to scroll up for you could think of something simple like not breaking working things and asking before changing it?
fukin corp retards, company men. how is this world still going?8
When I'm scrolling through my feed here for a long time and see a rant I want to comment on, I always scroll down, comment and then realize the rant is a month+ old.
Client stated at the beginning of the project that they wanted a modern, pretty website that essentially had everything on one page.
Okay no problem, design is done and approved, weeks ago.
Today they come in after having the site for THREE WEEKS to review and do they come back with feedback on the functionality of the site? Oh no all they want to know is 'how will the user know that they need to scroll down to see more of the site?'...2
A client just asked why her site was in Latin instead of English (I used dummy text because there was no content yet).
Last week, she requested l chop up a .jpg mockup because she 'can't scroll' the image.
I had to re-read the email to be sure.1
You put that little horizontal scroll bar or you seriously wanted to troll us?
Thinking it's a side bar, I tried literally 5-6 times and then I gave up.9
Thanks for messing up my home directory!!!
Edit: Tell me when you have to scroll 2x your display height13
Time to add a new feature in an Android app:-
Java code with basic layout to implement the feature - 1 hour
Polishing the layout - 30 mins
Time to fucking make the scroll view wrap around the text and not overflow in the dialog so that the buttons below are visible - 6-10 hours!!!13
That Moment when you watch a ted talk of linus torvalds, scroll down the Comments section and find this lol3
Stackoverflow...asking for a framework to do X.
Question gets closed by 20++ nitpickers because "... asking us to recommend or find a book, tool, software library, tutorial or other off-site resource are off-topic"
Scroll down 1 inch to find really useful answer.3
On the 9Gag Android app, you can "scroll" up and down by using the volume up/down, if the music isn't playing. (I think you have to enable this in the setings).
I find this quite convinient, and would love to this here too.
@dfox and @trogus5
Anybody else interested in a feature to save the state/amount of "scroll" when accidentally leaving the application?
So, it's time to fucking rant!
Location: A small startup where direct contact with C-Level members is frequent.
A while back we had a customer using our SaaS product who had gripes about the way it worked.
He contacted our CEO and made a bunch of claims based on bad assumptions.
In the end, he wanted all images removed from his site. I was pulled aside by the CEO and asked if I could handle this for him and make a new screen for them without images.
So I did. I tried to discuss and get deeper into the problem by saying "this seems like a symptom of a problem and not the actual problem. What do you think?" He responded with "That was his request so it must be the problem if it won't take long then let's fix it for him.
- a week later
The problem is fixed and in the wild. No more images. Now he has another request :/
He does not like the pagination on his site. He says " I shouldn't have to click a button when I scroll so I want the be able to scroll and see all my products!"
This time the CEO asks me if this can easily be done and I take him aside and say "no, this will be a big change to our system and will need to be discussed with the team."
The main point I make is that we should go down and spend some time with this customer to find out what the real problem is.
After a half hour of discussion about the real issue he decided to bring in the CTO.
In the end, we implemented infinite scroll, dropping our current product building tasks to service one customer (yeah, it's a bad scene). But we got infinite scroll built and shipped.
- 2 Weeks later
This time he demands that infinite scroll isn't good enough. "If I scroll fast then I have to wait for them to load, they should all load at once!"
This time I have had enough. I can see the CEO is coming over to me to as me how much work is in this. I tell him there are 3 things I have to say...
1. I'm going to implement exactly what he asked by the end of the day.
2. We will only release it to him because it is going to be a shit-show loading everything at once, the load times will be mental!
3. We should fire this customer, right now.
So, I built it. Customer hated it (of course, who the fuck wants to wait 30s for loading. That's basically a lifetime). We changed it back and he was still mad.
- 2 weeks later
Customer leaves. Good riddance.
- sometime later
I am in the customer's store on a road trip. I get a feel for how their store works and they have a different system for making things operate.
It turns out that they did not know what the real problem was. They actually needed a completely different system (from a UX perspective) for accessing their data.
To top it all off, the system would have taken less time to build than the shitty fixes we made over weeks of work. FFS
I guess the moral of the rant is to find the problem, not a symptom of the problem.2
Seems like ORACLE doesn't know how to display the grave accent symbol on websites 🤔
I really like it when I work at home cus I know it's very productive.
I'd be working for 30 mins then I tell myself to take a break...
I scroll through facebook then I'm reminded of reddit... and then google plus.. and then podcasts.. and then youtube videos... then I proceed to discover the far reaches of the internet.............. OH NO1
In my opinion the image feature on devRant is not very user friendly. I think following points should be changed:
- In the rant preview the image has always a 1:>=1 ratio. This means that you can't see the full image unless the image has exactly a 1:1 or smaller ratio.
- To see the image in fullscreen mode you have to tap two times. In my opinion that's just too cumbersome. Often when i browse through devRant and i see a image i just scroll along because i don't wanna tap two times to see the image.6
Installing arch on VM of hyper-v,
Everything was working as expected.
But can't scroll at the end, commands entered are going below monitor output, need to use everytime "clear".
Thanks Windows, maybe it's feature🤔17
Downloaded SQL assigment
Scroll fown to find the tables and the data
A table with the worst font to use1
Why has Google implemented those stupid menu bar buttons across the bottom of their apps. Isn't the YouTube app over jammed already. With most android phones using on screen buttons, you have to reach your thumb over the bezel, nav buttons and menu bar just to make a scroll motion for your content. I've sent Google feedback multiple times to of course (typical Google) to no avail. Let iOS have lower third menu buttons. We don't all have an S8, which as I see it is the only way this is alleviated.15
Was manually comparing two lists of data on two screens. One of them seemed to contain about 20 entries more. I thought this was a bug. Took me a minute to relaise that it's just because my screens have a different size and so one of them fits all the data on the screen and for the other one you need to scroll.3
I love you devRant
I'm heading to bed here pretty quickly, but before I lay down I just wanted to say something.
I've been a long time lurker, but have just recently registered as a member. Whenever I get a chance to, I have the urge to open up devRant and take a scroll through recent posts. You guys are the best, and give me something to chuckle at. It's just really great and refreshing to find a community that is supportive, and full of so many inspiring people. It's like Shangri-La - the hidden community that you always knew existed, but could never find2

9:30PM - Beer time
9:31PM - "I'll just write a couple of more lines"
12:30AM - "That's it, no more code for today"
12:31AM - "I'll just scroll through devRant"1
So apparantly Mac's scroll direction is inversed, and it's quite easy to change.
Heard someone say this: "oh... These mice scroll the other way, better bring my own mouse tomorrow because I can't work with this."2
Since memes have become an integral part of our community, I propose a way to handle them without affecting the actual Ranters.
Everyone adding a meme or a gag picture can do so under a particular tag, and the Algo can handle your meme needs by exposing you to that particular tag based on your activity with such posts.
Or you could just make the users search for memes if they wanted to see them.
This could also be done vice versa by ranters using a RANT tag, I would keep my RANT filter on so anything without that tag won't show up
To make it better you can provide a sort of suggested tags option :
|gag|¦¦¦|meme|¦¦¦Ranf|¦¦ scroll to the right for more... Kinda thing
@dfox @trogus please tell us what you think about this8
If(When you are in the app and go to notifications, group the notifications for the same rant.
Automatically sort unread notifications to the top)
Zombie = happy;
Sometimes I have to scroll forever1
So, Instagram put that "Be the first to comment" as a part of the background on the image itself. Whenever I scroll past comments that is visible in between the gaps. They couldn't even render a simple text view if there are no comments. And, I thought I was the only one who uses lazy hacks to make things work.2
Has anyone else noticed the bug when you scroll down on the profile of a person you can't see the avatar and the profile description anymore after scrolling up again?
when installed the Boxy Theme for the sublime text and make scroll are to the end (had never done it)2
> Opened devRant to read some cool rant.
> Scrolled down the feed to find awosm rant.
> Found an interesting rant, touched it to view it.
> Read the rant.
> press back to find more awosme rant but, (boom💥) again on top of feed.😡😡😤
> Now need to scroll down again :/ :(
FUCCKKKKK WHY DOES LINKEDIN HAVE TO REFRESH THE FEED EVERY TIME I SHARE A FUCKING ARTICLE! NOW I HAVE TO SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN YOU MORONS! WHY ARE YOU MAKING MY LIFE HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE??!!1
Open devrant, scroll through algo till you see stuff from yesterday, click settings, go to recent and continue
I've seen several rants on here about poor documentation on great libraries. Well I just spent 9 hours in a car today and I realized that even the ones that have great documentation absolutely SUCK at being mobile friendly. I'm no web developer but how freaking hard is it to optimize your stupid website for small screens??? There are a million frameworks out there you can choose from PLUS it's almost entirely text so it can't be that hard!! I have to zoom in about 300% to be able to read it, then I have to scroll back and forth because it no longer fits on the screen.
One of the worst parts of being a nuclear engineer is the ancient codes and programs we use.
Are we all THAT lazy to get a fucking working VisEd and MCNP written in a comprehensive language like python??
I just want to go to work and not have to scroll through thousands of pages of documentation. I just want my geometry to be defined easily and not wonko shit where the sphere exists inside and outside the mesh tally. I JUST WANT A SPHERE TALLY MESH, THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL EXISTENCE OF THIS SPHERE IS UNNECESSARY AND NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND I LIVE IN LESS THAN TEN DIMENSIONS UNLIKE TECHNOLOGY2
Yo i know this shit is discussed way too often, but it kills me from the inside:
In that one coding class we get some source files where only the function bodies are missing (i know, sounds childish).. but it uses this style
I fuCKING HATE THIS GODDAMN RETURN THERE WHAT THE HELL WHO FINDS THIS BULLSHIT AESTHETIC ALL SPACEY SO YOU SCROLL YOUR ASS OFF WHEN FILES GET LONGER THAN 2 FUNCTIONS?😔7
Saw someone talking about web 3.0 and the bright and shiny possibilities, today. Web 3.0, will be an ad that opens into an ad that asks you to turn off ad blocker. That, mixed with fucking tile designs and PowerPoint scroll locking. And injected mobile subscribe now banners. Welcome to the future!1
So I work in a web development company in my town and have been doing a while or heap of parallax sites for our clients. Now obviously when we do the designs we get them in and get them to play around with the site before we go ahead and push their new site out and make it live right.
Wellll who would of thought that a simple parallax site would be so hard to use for the general user??? Recently we have been getting the occasional call where the client is getting complaints about the site only being a big ole image or just one block of text. After investigating why their site was broken or why the users weren't able to see the whole site I came across no problems at all.
Today I got a call from the client who instructed me that after explaining to one of his own clients that he had to scroll down the page that everything was just fine!
I mean, what? How do you miss the big ole scroll bar on ya screen or even think to even attempt to scroll? Some people aye lmao2
For when I need to make a website awesome:
You know what I really like? When apps override the scrolling behaviour...
Yes, I really want you to disable my scrolling settings and enforce your own goddamn scrolling logic, it's so great to have shit I'm used to being forcibly removed from me.
Biggest surprise is the latest place I've seen this is Unreal Engine :O Scrolling the news in the launcher is slow as fuck.2
Basically everything. Let me explain.
It's now.. okay what time is it? Ooh there's some dust on the clock, I wonder how do they form.. I guess I'll check Wikipedia. Page is loading, might as well scroll fb while waiting. Ooh a video on the home feed! Oh wait it's loading, I wonder what's on YouTube. Ugh, ads, let's just mute it and scroll devRant. Oh cool there's something called Google FooBar challenge, imma try searching Arraylist Java. Nice, lv1 done, let's take a break by getting a drink from the fridge.
*Walks back to room after drinking a sip of orange juice* hmm.. what time is it? Oh it's late, imma go to sleep!
*Shuts down everything and goes to bed* Maybe I'll just browse devRant before sleeping.. Ooh I have an idea for wk51!1
Thanks google, I don't think I will forget to try them
Had to scroll for half a minute to find something I didn't already have1
If you're experiencing the "can't scroll up on the profile page" bug, here's the solution:
Scroll up until the bug. Put (press and hold) your finger on the "tab bar" at the top. Move your finger up a little, then down to scroll.
This is worked for me.8
devRant needs some sort of Offspring-of-Clippy tool.
"It looks like you're posting a sort-of-humorous-the-first-time joke or meme. Have you bothered to scroll more than twice to see if this dead horse has, indeed, been well flogged?" 😜
There's one thing I hate about devrant...
While I'm browsing posts I can't check back for my posts or exit the app or I'll have to scroll down again (gets messy after like 50)
That means I just stop watching for the rest of the day.
3rd button to mark as seen and don't show on post lists
Add a mark on last seen post so it will continue there when we return to browsing.
Thank you for this community once again9
Android studio is a PATHETIC excuse of an IDE!! And managing a constraint layout inside a scroll view is worse than having my nails pulled out while a bamboo is growing into my spine at record time! Screw this piece of shit IDE!! I suck at front end bad enough to have to deal with its buggy frontend IDE!! Aaaah!!!! - pulls lumps of hair out-14
I think people get *way* too annoyed if someone tags their post here with the wrong tag, even with completely new users
Seriously, who cares if you see a few jokes in your rant feed? I know some of the jokes are bad, and in that case just scroll past them, even downvote it if you have to, maybe remind them to post it in the right tag even, but it annoys me seeing posts here about people being as annoyed as they are about wrong tags7
I scroll devRant more often than any other app now. Such fascinating tragedies and lol-worthy rants in here. I'm pretty sure I've shred tears using this app.2
It's 1 AM and I've just finished deployment on production. I should go to sleep but what I do, yes scroll through devRant.6
@dfox, this menu does not scroll on my phone, Sony Xperia Z-something (4?), but I guess the list ends with About...
Great new UI! 😀20
Why the fuck do Synaptic touchpad drivers suck so much? Seriously, it already crashed my laptop...
And it likes to reverse scroll direction randomly, which is really annoying.2
I hate infinitely scrolling pages. There is no way of knowing (or at least, nobody is telling) how far you have to scroll to reach the end. Though I guess the answer is kinda given already; "infinitely". Fuck, I'll be scrolling for a while, then.11
Could anyone explain to me what the meaning of the size changing scrollbar is?
Does it show the ratio of window height over the height of the current rant or comment it the latter is longer than the window?3
Reading another rant about scrolling and decimal values I felt an urge to write about a bad practice I often see.
Load on demand when scrolling has been popular for quite some years but when implementing it, take some time to consider the pages overall layout.
I have several times encountered sites with this “helpful” feature that at the same time follows another staple feature of pages, especially news sites, of putting contact and address information in the footer ...
Genius right :)
I scroll down to find contact info and just as it comes in view new content gets loaded and pushes it out of view.
If you plan to use load on demand, make sure there is nothing below anyone will try to reach, no text or links or even pictures, you will frustrate the visitor ;)
The rant I was inspired by probably did not do this but its what got me thinking.
A day in the life of a paypal dev.
1. Slurp some starbucks
2. Do a lil' Meeting
3. Eat lunch
4. 1on1 Meeting with manager for one hour
5. Scroll over some code and look at the beautiful Momentum ToDo app
6. Bid some employee farewell (seems to happen every day there apparently)
Sounds pretty efficient. When you write no code you cannot create any bugs...2
We are switching to an infinite scroll mode for our app. I told the backend dev in my project (we're just 2 people) I need an API to get more than one post at once.
He told me to use a loop to call the old URL 15 times.
...Not sure if stupid or just too lazy4
Took an hour to fix color of scroll bar.
The issue I fixed from this "#injectLocation ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb" to this "#injectLocation::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb"2
Ever heard of this custom ROM called Unleash-OS ?
Well if you've not, you're doing really well in your life. If you're happy, you can scroll away right now.
And in case you want to test strength of your happiness.
Just see here :
If you still are happy, you're pretty damn happy person. If you're not well I'm sorry, it'll just take you 10 minutes to recover.
The reason why I ranted about this is that I want everyone to be sane and NEVER do some shit like this.
When you click on a notification about a comment, does it take you directly to the comment or the rant page? I always have to scroll down to find my comment. It's not a link!
Anyone need below features?
# 0 It would be good to have your own username/comment highlighted differently so it's easy to find our own comments.
# 1 we should have a scroll to bottom option for a rant. For a huge rant when you click on notification you need to scroll down to bottom manually to check new comments.
My favorite thing about CSS flex-box is that I can re-order the elements and put the footer at the top of the page while I style it - and have no need to scroll down on every build. order: -1
Using a touchpad to scroll is painful.
Coding with Visual Studio is painful, too.
Know what's really painful?
Not being able to scroll with the touchpad while coding with Visual Studio...11
Me, scrolling my way thru a class:
Holy motherfucking, incestloving, glueeating, cognitivedeprived cow!!! I swear whoever made this sorry excuse of a "class" should burn in the deepest, farthest, sweatiest part of the devil's arsecrack being stuck in between his arsechee---
*scroll reaches top of the class*
* @author: Me <email@example.com>
There should be image-whiteness-check when posting images. It hurts so much when mostly white images throws white spears to my eyes while I scroll in dark theme unprepared for war with the white side.7
The thing I hate the most at the moment, is working/receiving tasks on chat (Skype, telegram).
Content, corrections and all. As I like to scroll my hand off to copy your fucking content while you keep writing on an on.
Write a motherfucking document!
Now I start raging at the any chat notifications 😡😈2
Once I finish reading a long rant/story on this website, I have to scroll up to rate the rant/story.3
Let me try if this will motivate me:
Search for "wk107".
** scroll **
** scroll **
** scroll **1
Soundcloud used to know how to shuffle your liked tracks. Not it only shuffles the tracks that are in the playlist and the playlist only contains the (literally) visible tracks.
Basically, If you want to shuffle more than 30 songs at once you hace to scroll down for it...3
Thanks a lot @dfox @torgus @tahnik for implementing the scroll freature with the arrow key in devRantron.
I had maded a post way back
Sorry for posting so late !
You guys rock !!3
Eg. Imagine you have two monitors, you are playing your game on monitor A, and monitor B has a copy of the instructions on it.
Often in games you can't move the mouse outside of the game window / monitor..
But not to worry, that B monitor is a touchscreen, so you touch to scroll it and what happen.. focus changes to that monitor, and your game window minimises..
But you don't want that to happen !
How do you stop that happening by the way ?17
Oh shit it's a !rant, if you don't like !rants then scroll past this please.
When out of all my dumb classmates there's actually one that never learned much about programming before going to my school, got interested and is right now developing a library of CLI games... Of course I help him if he has any questions, and I will probably review his code after he's done.6
For telcos it's cheaper to install and use faster 10gb/s fiber optic than using its existing 1gb/s network. I thougt they were lazy fucks who only do something when not doing anything is more expensive. Fascinating 10gb/s internet future ahead of us.
If you are bored and want to learn something new, watch this cringe worthy video where verizon talks about its fiber optic network. It's even worth to watch for non us amercians.
(scroll to middle)
A quick update on my www.xmlrant.com
So, I added sticky headers to the site while you scroll, which will make it easier to see what type are we viewing and sorted by which criteria.
Why is it that after scrolling down on my profile page I can no longer properly scroll up? The view gets sort of "stuck" (sorry, no Android dev here).8
iOS 10 (latest) + iPhone 6
Can't scroll past initially loaded rants on algo screen
Also, love the new tag picker...14
Just realized the button between my left and right click on my touchpad actually works exactly like you would press the scroll wheel on your mouse, in Linux!
Shame on you Windows, you didn't know what to do with it.3
How to get people to subscribe to your website :
1) ask them, be engageant !
2) No... no that's not what I meant... you shouldn't... wait... don't... ow...
And this ducking banner stays in the middle of the screen even when you scroll. There's no cross or close button... Because I love reading my books with a finger laid in the middle of the page.1
Just realized that the scroll position indicator dances when scrolling through a long list of comments 😄, and I think that's beautiful1
anyone else, when reading documentation to some API, and you come across section titled "doing [whateveritis] via SOAP", you just laugh "hahaha, no way, sweety", and scroll past that section as fast as possible? =D1
The most fun thing to do? Scroll through all the rants really fast, and watch the scroll bar on the right shrink and expand rapidly.2
Any preferences on Mice?
I use a Mad Catz R.A.T 5 because of the adjustability and shortcut buttons + horizontal scroll8
Is it just me or does anyone else hate the "MORE RANTS" feature/option of Devrant.
Can't we simply have a scrolling featuring with never-ending set of Rants the same way as reddit does??
:( :( :(3
Product Owner (PO) the problem with this sharing widget it loads slow and people might scroll past it.
Me: ok. Let's make it fixed on the side of the page so that it's always seen, but not intrusive.
PO: No. It's not how the brand should look. And it might cover 1% of the skin ad. Let's make our own widget.
Me: that would require to create several apps on social networks and maintain the code internally instead of using a centralised service that many people already provide. You don't have the money for that.
PO: sorry I got distracted by this bird outside the window.8
My wish for devrant: click devrant text in navigationbar to refresh and scroll to top of the feed.1
Customer: "There are only 'X' values in COLUMN_D, your - report - import is wrong!"
Me: select count(*) from table_a where column_d is not in ('X') -> returns more than a thousand... Yeah please only scroll within a couple hundreds of records in your shitty sql client gui without making queries. Fuckhead.
OMFG. So my isp sucks. Like most isp do now adays. I was watching TV and I was trying to find a specific channel. I look for the channel list online. And oh my fucking God the site is horrible. They have some continuous loading script so I don't have to load all 2500 channels at once. But... It's fucking horrible I got to channel 120 then tries to scroll back up to see if there was a search bar. But guess what... It kept scrolled bg me down. Then I thought maybe if I refresh the page. Nope... It does not send me to the top it sends me to the fucking bottom. Since I can't clear cache on mobile im stuck scrolling up. Why can't they have a site that just fucking works.2
When you would just check the school timetable for tomorrow, but when you unlock your phone you find devrant to be the active app, and you just scroll through everything, and forget why did you even unlock your phone...
Just devrant things...
Did you notice that the scrollbar in the devrant (android) app changes size depending on the lenght/number of posts/comments you can see at the moment? Just scroll down in the posts list and see the scroll bar crawl like a caterpillar 😮1
The fun you can have with voice control and parents. :-)
Free version lets you have 20 commands:
Great fun letting parents use it for browsing the web, save their fingers.
Though I notice it works better if it has a trigger word ahead of the command.
So instead of:
They was using:
"Bloody Scroll Up"
Much more amusing. :-)
This has been a public service announcement, please continue working...4
Why the fuck do coding blogs insist on using themes with a 600px content column, then use code samples that are 3x wider than that? The whole reason I have a widescreen monitor is to not _have_ to scroll, jackass!1
Do you think anyone at Google has ever used a mouse to scroll through Google calendar? I don't - otherwise, they'd see that it's unbearable. That API sure is great, though.
When a fucking $60 paid WordPress theme has endless-scroll implemented, but the client decided for a static start-page and this damn theme will continue loading content when scrolling to the bottom, but doesn't display the new content, because it should be a static page. (It still loads content but just disables displaying the new content)
So, in three minutes scrolling the start page, I downloaded 0,5GB of images, that aren't visible.
Told the client, who's using this theme on 8 websites (and paid 8 times). He's writing a bug report.1
Just a suggestion, when scrolling down on a user's profile, their user information should scroll up too along with the 'rants/+1's/comments' tabs and then those tabs stay fixed while the user information hides. Sort of like what Twitter does
There's not much room to view the actual content with all the user information in the way. Of course once we scroll back up, it will then reveal the user info again
Pro tip: if you press the little refresh button on the upper right hand corner it will refresh the rant and then scroll you all the way down to the bottom of the page.6
OMG The scroll Screenshot feature on my phone (idk if it's just android) is awesome. I'm impressed! It's not as useful as I thought but still nice to have.2
So for a side project, I had to understand the reasoning of a former project for this one. I was told it's the most clean and the most reliable I could get.
I scroll in the classes developed, then suddendly in a comment :
"TODO : Hardcoded for now, will be expected to change"
oh fuck me.
Could we have some kind of way to see who created the post in the comments? Like an OP mark or a different color of the name or something?
When reading long quality rants I tend not to notice the username, and then when I'd like to engage in the discussion I have to scroll all the way up to check it.2
Old app = DOS, keyboard only, shortcut keys..
Newer app = WIMP, keyboard mouse, lots of RSI issues as the mouse track from side to side of the screen all the time..
Modern apps = designed for mobile devices where you scrolls the window with a flick and it dashes past 10 windows at a time before it comes to a stop..
Whilst, do that on a PC with a mouse scroll wheel, takes forever to get to up or down huge 100 page sites/apps !
I'm reminded of devRant here..
Solutions = Options !
Everyone loves keyboard shortcuts..
Everyone loves alternative layout options..
Otherwise my fingers are going to wear out !
The tags disappear from your drafts.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
Also I can't scroll through the tag suggestions.
Is it a bug or a feature ? @dfox
(This still happens even after updating the Android App)
I'm using a Lenovo device with Android M.2
How come then when I scroll through the rants here I almost always see posts from web developers? Where the fuck are mobile, desktop devs?!8
My Top 10 most useless keys (#1 is worst):
1. Stop (the media key).
2. Pause/Break. (I understand this has historical usage, but I personaly have never used it.)
3. Page Up
4. Page Down
5. Scroll Lock
6. All those little shortcut keys along the top (above the F-keys) which open things like IE, My Documents, email etc.
7. All the modifier combinations of back tick (it in itself is useful, but WTF is a split pipe supposed to mean!? Or a ¬ !?)
8. Right Windows key.
9. Insert. Again, it has historical significance, but it's completely useless! Especially when you press it by accident.
10. The Menu key which opens the context menu.
I know some people will probably say 'the [blah] key saved my life once...', but I just rebind these keys with AHK. (http://autohotkey.com)7
I heard this at work the other day from a collegue running out of patience with a client
"Well, so what they may have to scroll, but thats life"
In SQL Management Studio, why is the Identity Specification so low in the column properties list?! It's so annoying to scroll and find it.
Is this punishment for using the GUI?1
Whenever I take a break from my editor, I end up pressing j and k to scroll up and down in be browser, only to be disappointed. Looks like someone at FB was having the same problem and added it to their newsfeed. Thanks bud!1
Joined dev rant yesterday. First thing I do today after reaching office is open dev rant and scroll through... really loving it...1
Sometimes I wonder, when getting a notification for a month old rant, how can someone scroll down for that long?3
Noticing something weird. Is it normal that I cant scroll down on algo and that I already red them all?
I restarted devrant but same thing happens.4
Why must the scrollbar look like its having a seizure whenever I scroll faster than a brisk scroll? Why does it even have to change length at all? Why can't it just be the same length all the time? It happens a bit in the devRant app, but it's even worse in other apps (like the reddit app).2
You all know that. Seeing a presentation / poster / mail with a screenshot of a word document. I mean a FUCKING SCREENSHOT!!!! You may ask "How do you know it's a screenshot?". Oh maybe because every 2nd fucking Word on that whole picture has a wavy red underline? Oh for fucks sake I don't get it. You can save and export them to thousands of file types. Why do you do that? Printing huge posters to advertise your stuff with WAVY FUCKIN' RED UNDERLINES!! I am fuckin dying inside. It is just missing a scroll bar or a task bar with youporn favicon1
The power of scrolling keep amazing me it’s not about fucking content, not about what fiends shared or about interesting shit, it’s about infinite scroll motherfuckers, people are simple as fuck.6
@dfox This update is flawed podcasts need to be inside the app not a link to the side and I cant scroll down I don't know if it's my phone or not any1 experiencing this1
Talking about UX design.
Im on facebook scrolling down all this shit news and then i see one of my friend commenting on one post.
I tap on it and .... The commenting list appear but it not scroll to my friend comment... Close this shit get mad close facebook 😂
Long story short facebook sucks cocks1
Today we got our first real contract for my software company. It fills me with the most confidence as I scroll this feed of people having the same issues as we do. Customers wanting more than was agreed, customers expecting us to know what they want before talking to us etc... Thank you devRant!
Just saw my teacher clicking 100 times on the arrow button under scroll bar to get to the end of a web page.
My favourite Visual Studio feature is that if you try to scroll while selecting with the left mouse button, it just kind of spazzes up and down annoyingly.1
current site issue, client and pm cant see the full list of people in multiple select box because they cant find the scroll bar.
Reading through the bugs list on Trello...
- change colour and style of button to make it more prominent
- change default for select box
- add a popup to explain the UI on 1st visit
- if I don't save the entry, show alert to user on exit
- remove the map button under the map that links via auto scroll to the map above it
- remove the settings options for the items we designed but you couldn't implement due to lack of time / budget / low priority
It goes on, seriously...
TAP ONCE WITH TWO FINGERS FOR A RIGHT CLICK!!! ONCE WITH TWO FINGERS !!! NOOO NOT THE TOUCH PAD RIGHT CLICK DON'T TOUCH THAT!!!
NO NO NO DON'T DO THAT...
DON'T SCROLL BY HOLDING THE LEFT BUTTON AND DRAGGING...
TWO FINGERS SLIDE TO SCROLL
BARBARIANS ALL OF U4
Found a bug while search the newest week rants,
I can't scroll to the bottom properly.
It's hard to show in a screenshot but you can see that the scroll bar has gone to the bottom of the screen and it won't let me go anything further.
Sorry if someone already found this but just thought i'd post about it3
Am I the only one that doesn't have images loaded in my feed? Also, when I scroll until a rant with an image has to be loaded it freezes for a second9
Holy shit. I'm on the devrant app and I just noticed that the scrollbar on the right does this weird worm thingy.
As I scroll up and down, the scrollbar size keeps changing. It's a cool effect where it twitches like a worm.
Is that an android o feature or something or did @dfox or @trogus add that shet.2
Question to @dfox
How hard would it be to make the
++ and -- to scroll along with us to the bottom of a long rant and then stop at the line for the next rant?
Bug (or feature ?) report
I don't know if it's a bug, a feature, and something that just happens to me.. When I view someone's profile and I want to scroll down to see the rants, the "first scroll" stops at the end of the profile. Then I can scroll down more. And after, if I want to see the profile again I can't scroll up. I ended up finding out that tapping the username lets us see the profile again. I'd like to point this out because the behavior seems kinda weird to me, I don't know what others think about it5
I really dont understand how if I show someone my website or give them the link they're like What is it? and i just want to say
"I wonder... IF ONLY THERE WAS A FUCKING PARAGRAPH ON THE FRONT PAGE AS YOU OPEN THE SITE THAT TELLS YOU WHAT IT IS, oh you still dont understand? THEN FUCKING SCROLL THE FUCK DOWN AND READ THE REST!"
It seems like every time I show someone it IRL, this is exactly what happens, it's like they've never used the internet and never had to scroll down for more content.5
I sometimes cant scroll on devrant in the web version. I can scroll through rants but not the comments of one rant. It just jumps back to tje beginning of the rant all the time.
It seems to be connected to resizing the firefox window. If it's smaller, gg. Thats it. No comment reading for me.
I encountered some strange programming languages here =>
Then scroll to the bottom.6
@dfox : it looks like that there might be a bug in viewing profiles with less than 5 rants.
Android version 6.0.1 Samsung s7
1.) Click on a user profile with a low number of rants
2.) Scroll to the bottom of the list
3.) The user is unable to scroll up.12
So... I just got to the next fase where I'm being asked to do a technical test. What they ask is for me to develop an Android App with 4 different tabs:
- First tab I need to receive data from a github url, parse it and show it on a recyclerview, save it on a database, and be able to search it.
- Second tab has to show 50 elements in a recyclerview, with a header that has to fill the entire screen and when the user scrolls down, the image has to fix to the top of the screen, and never go back when you scroll up.
and two more exercises with variations but almost same difficulty.
..... to deliver at 10 a.m at the 26th of October.
......It was 07:00 p.m when I got the email
FUCK MY LIFE
omg. do some people not have memory? do they not realize not everyone has the same skill level? internet speed or access?
from people being hypocrites and right out assholes or morons
people dogging on jokes
you can go to a profile and read recent comments - to see someone doing or bitching about something they then bitch about or do a day or few later/before. click their rants, "zomg why for do dis?" *scroll* "watch me do dis thing i bitch about"
and if you are going to complain to people about not being able to google - maybe trying googling a dictionary and look up the word "joke" that is in the tag. if you dont think it's funny, or it's overused, don't want to join in, or w/e, stfu and let others have fun ffs
are you an asshole? or just an idiot?2
Automate is a great app...
(Scroll to last paragraph for a question if you wanna skip the faff)
Semi addicted to a time waster mobile game that has micro transactions. Yet you can get free ingame currency by watching ads over and over.
Using automate i managed to 'automate' the process of "watch add. Click ok. Repeat"
Now when i sleep or idle ill just let it rake up some cash. Sadly it isnt full proof as sometimes (1 out of 20 times) it fails to run the ad and that breaks ot all. But restsrting it is easy and thats another 20 cash!
What have you done to skip tedious work for something trivial or some trivial gain but felt good you did it anyways?5
Is there a way to make the ( + ) Floating Action Button disappear down and reappear up on scroll event, like it does on all the Google apps with Material Design?2
So I cant resize the window and I can't scroll down anymore... Where the fuck is "below" so I can turn "off" data collection 😤2
@dfox You should make a widget so we can just scroll through some rants without wasting much time to get to the app. It would make those people who hunt for extra time happier. It's just a thought you should look into ;) ;*1
As developers, I feel like we as a community need to really work on our grammar/spelling.
Example: scroll down...10
Just noticed this interestingly weird yet annoying thing Facebook does to force you to look at their advertisements !!
The first post in your news feed is something that is decided by their "ADVANCED ML+AI+... " algorithms.
The next post in your news feed is always an advertisement..usually tagged as "Sponsored".
After this, there is an insanely long delay in loading the subsequent post in your news feed, which in turn does not allow you to scroll further down and forces you to keep looking at the sponsored post in your news feed!
Noticed this on my Mac + FF 57.0.1
Makes me love devrant even more. Thanks for keeping it add free!
Is there any way to disable sites binding the mousewheel (scrolling) event ? Like for example rebinding it to scroll down at the end of window load ? (tamper/greasemonkey)
I am getting furious with all these sites where they will block the whole site to make you agree cookies & gdpr shit.
Removing the foreground/blocking element is sometimes enough but often the remaining site can't be scrolled.
EDIT: Found out you can add links of script that does this to AdBlock:) For example movieinsider has it's "gdpr, cookies & shit" script at the top of head element. Add it and voilá.9
Today I try to refactor my personal project. It contains a very huge file named "core.js". It become so monolithic so that I'm too afraid to open it again.
So, I decide to face my darkest nightmare by refactor that "core.js" into several files based on it's context.
Now, I'm in the middle of the task, and unable to figure out, which one of these code is cleaner:
let function = util.function;
The first one let me informed about the "namespace" without any need to scroll up and look for the declaration.
The second one is shorter, and I don't need to change everything so much.3
What's with this scroll bar? I like the changing size of the bar as it scrolls faster, is there a name for this type of scroll animation?12
I don't want a tab option because I have to click it but I'm willing to take 2 minutes to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the content I want .... while you're at it create a button for me that selects specific items out of the select options because I don't feel like having to pick the option I want .... stupid users
instagrams "based on likes" is total bullshit, I don't like shit those suggestions like but if you scroll through your contacts you'll find those suggestions. Why not just say it like it is: "from your contacts or from your friends contacts"3
@dfox, on Android, can the viewport scroll down once the comment button is clicked and the comment has been published? I like to see that my comment has been indeed published and I hate to scroll down to make sure. Just my 2 cents on improving the UX, :)4
Should be a sticky post: https://www.devrant.io/rants/93206
Should at least be bumped monthly, for new ranters...
Click devRant to refresh, no more scroll to top, as @pelonchasva pointed out.1
Something that absolutely drives me crazy is how there is no TreeView of my repositories in SourceTree... just the stupid scroll bar at the top! UGHH!!!
I just watched a friend scroll up on our python file to copy the string from a variable so she could paste it to concatenate it...
The last ten days i’ve been working on some animations for this website. Basic stuff but when you make elements move on scroll, people go wild.
The designer had a big opinion on this ofcourse.
So big she hád to scroll through the page herself.
So, multiple times a day, for the past two weeks she came over, checked animations, and gave a bit feedback on what could be improved.
She never mentioned the labels that where only appearing on scroll. Everything was just fine after 9 days.
However on day #10 i got a bug that the labels had to be appearing “just after loading the page”.
Like what?! Are people to dumb to scroll 2mm on a page? Damn ho. Wtf do you mean with “just after loading the page”. 1sec? 2sec? 10sec?1
I scroll rants from computer until late
realize that would be nice go to bed
lay on the bed
then open devRant from phone
3 am, great
upd: I just accidently wrote fucking verse2
Fucking rsync -vv: errors occurred, now scroll up to infinity to find a single line where the error happened
I dont know if its a feature or bug or just me, but if i go on someone's profile and scroll down to check the rants, i cant scroll up trough the top last rant. It stops exactly, when i reach the bar (rants, ++, comments, etc..). I have to click or touch this bar at least ones to come over it, to scroll further up to the profile description, pic etc.
ps: I'm using an galaxy s7 with Nougat7
I'm seriously considering making my website animations only support Firefox because apparently Mozilla are the only people who thought native smooth scrolling and implementing scroll-behavior was a good idea3
When you click the notif of "more comments on a rant you commented", could it scroll down to the bottom?
Preferrably to the last comment you saw but that would require some more tracking3
I really don't like, when I open instagram, that it takes me tothe top, when I am viewing a pretty image! It really infuriates me when apps does that! Let me control where I scroll, and don't take me to the top just because I opened you!
Browse to ionic page when it's in version 1. Scroll down to their documentation , almost there about to complete reading their documentation, ionic releases version 2. Get your system setup for ionic 2. Browse through their page for native nom packages , find ionic V3 there... !!! What the fuck .!!!??? Am I the only one experiencing this ?1
Bug report: on Android, when checking your profile and you scroll all the way to the bottom, it's impossible to scroll back up. It just gets stuck. @dfox4
VS2015 big cpp - project...
Scroll in file, decide where you wanna write code. Set caret (70s delay).

Sometimes when i scroll through rants, i see rants that happend to me almost exactly the same. So i check the ranters profile to see if they are going to the same university as me...
Anyone with me?
@dfox For some reason I can no longer scroll up once I have reached the end of my profile page. I have to reach that certain point so that I'm unable to scroll up.5
I joined a company when 18yro. I am from Vocational High School take Software Engineering.

0. Go to YouTube
1. Scroll through your home page until you find the first clickbait video
2. Post video title here
Inspired by https://devrant.com/rants/1572726/...5
When a video on YouTube is scrolling down a website and you scroll down for real thinking that the website would scroll while your video goes up 😂😂😂😂
Hey guys, can you do me a big favor by voting on a project of my classmates and I.
If you go to icapresents.nl (yes the website is Dutch but Google translate can translate the page for you) then scroll down you'd have to click Selecteer profiel (select profile) and then select HBO-ICT propedeuse. There will be one project called EenmaalAndermaal. To view the project click Bekijk Project (view project) and here is the button Stem op dit project (vote for this project).
Warning, you might get a prompt asking you to log in to Facebook (nothing will be shared on your profile!) but when you do this you might get redirected back to the main page without the vote being registered. Bad design.
Thanks in advance2
Ok this will be silly guys, but this is my last hope, please help me. I am looking for a website "framework" but I can't remember the name. It is commercial, its website is all white using some black slab/serif fonts and it has a side navigation, the purpose of the framework is to easily create websites with full page scroll. it has multiple layouts, really similar to webslides or the slides framework from the guys at designmodo. If you know it or you are the developer behind it, please write link/name in comments thank you in advance!!
What happens when you scroll up/down a page?
Does the page stay as it is as it moves out of your screen's borders or does it delete itself for resource purposes?
I just thought that while scrolling through devRant and YouTube (which I do all the time).7
Anyone looking for a web dev internship in the US, in Atlanta, Georgia? FEE is taking applications at fee.org. Scroll to the bottom, click on Job Openings, and you will see the link for the 2017 Internship.
FEE is the Foundation for Economic Education, and is a Libertarian think tank.1
Does anyone how to configure a mouse in Manjaro Linux?
Damn thing has a tendency to copy and paste, with a single click of the scroll wheel.
If would be awesome if I automate that.3
Small experimental demo using JS, CSS and a bit of PHP.
The code, all mixed in a unique ~600 lines 'index.php' file, is ugly af. But I was mostly interested by the concept here, so it's really intended to be a dumb prototype.
However I think this works. The idea was to use a conceptual design solution in order to show links temporality when it is based on their popularity. More a link gets clicked, more bigger and slower it will be.
There's still a lot to improve. It could work with images or even more complex contents like articles. Just a matter of improving the UI.
Please feel free to play with it and give your opinion. What do you guys think of the concept ?1
Client: I want more columns in my datatable.
Me: you'll have to scroll horizontally at some point.
Client: don't you know responsive ?
Me: .......... no.1
Using bootstrap I want to create a table so that the thead is fixed and no matter how many rows are generated on loop , the thead will align properly with the tbody. I will keep the thead fixed so that only body will scroll vertically.
So the problem is on a responsive table how do I match the cell alignment and spacing of the head to the body cells.
Have wasted a day on this fed up. P.S on smaller screens I have set overflow to scroll vertically. Please help.11
Feature request: could we use the volume buttons for scrolling? 9gag app style? Personally, I love lying down and just using the buttons to scroll down to eternity. I'm willing to code it myself, for Android. @dfox1
Excuse me. Why on the videos I watch, I see that Mac has a smoother scroll, zoom, and etc.? Can Windows achieve that same user experience? Thank you so much.
I noticed that there's no scroll position indicator on Android. Would be nice to be able to see exactly how far down I've scrolled and how much time I've wasted on devRant. Food for thought.5
@dfox I cannot scroll down the list of somebody's or my own rants on the profile screen. I use the Android app, and scrolling after a point becomes a tedious process only allowing a millimeter at a time. Could you please fix this?5
Posting here so everyone can tell me if they have the same problem. I can't scroll through older notifications, so I get stuck with notifications in the end since I can't read them (outside the limit fetched). I think @dfox should implement infinite scrolling like on the Rants screen.
Do any of you suffer from the same problem?
Hi @dfox I saw an android user report this bug recently as a rant, and now I'm seeing it in iOS (latest app and os version).
Scrolling to the bottom, no more rants load. The little message shows stating that more rants are loading, but when you keep trying to scroll down there are none.
When I change the sort order from Algo to Recent or Top, I can't reproduce the issue. Seems to be only Algo.
Have tried killing the app and restarting to no effect. I hadn't noticed this bug last week interestingly, but can't confirm whether that's just coz I didn't scroll enough.2
Ok new game! 6 degrees of @localhost
Where every rant is only 6 degrees away from @localhost
10 Scroll through some rants
20 random stop at a rant
30 click on that rant
40 Click on the user's name on rant
50 In there profile: click on +1's
60 Click on the first rant you see
Ux/ui I like scroll bars and think they are useful in mobile. But it appears the standard not to display it these days? Opinions?4
DEVRANT FEATURE REQUEST
@dfox It would be a real time saver if DevRant app remembers the rant I was reading and saving me a time to scroll down to the last rant. :)3
Is it bad practice to write a line of code longer than the screen, meaning you need to scroll on the X? I've had one lecturer who hates it and one who doesn't give a shit and I'm not sure of the standard8
To the ranter who posted the picture of he spider, I love you as a fellow ranter but FUCK YOU! I SEE IT, MY PUPILS CONTRACT, I GET ITCHY, AND I SCROLL AWAY!!!
I didn't thumbs down because I kept scrolling away and assuming it would go away! 3 times it got me!!
Rant about devRant on devRant:
The about user section just leaves the view when you scroll down and never comes back when you scroll up! Rant! rant! Rant!!
Anyone else getting annoyed by the fact he/she has to scroll down all the way after commenting on a rant?
EDIT: on the browser version6
