me: *starts packing and stands up and walks up to the front to sign*
me: *turns around*
EVERYBODY WAS LOOKING AT ME. i was the one only who stood up and the professor was also looking at me like "wtf this doesnt happen everyday". and so i walked out of there and im so proud of myself lmfao58 -
Client: I love the site and will sign your contract today. I'll even give you a bonus since you got it done early. Can you put it up there this evening?
Me: I'm so glad that you liked it. I'll bring a condom with me all filled out and ready to go so we can push it up there.
Me: Contract. Damned phone
Client: please leave the condom at home
What's your worst autocorrect with a client?15 -
I just saw a website that hid the login and sign up buttons while ad block was enabled. No popups or anything asking me to disable the ad block.
Well played developer, well played.6 -
Little Hack
It annoys me whenever I encounter a website like quora which hides the real content with a overlay and a pop up to sign in. Little do they know I just delete the overlay element from the Dom 😁😁.
Who else does this?19 -
When you sign up for anything online, put the websites name as your middle name. That way when you receive spam/advert emails, you will know who sold your info.4

6 months ago I sold everything, quit my job, gave up my apartment and left the country with my 11kg backpack. I booked a one way ticket to South America. I wanted to travel, get lost but also finish up some personal projects and do a little tech books challenge I came up with. I learnt so much over the past half a year, it's crazy.
Not looking back. Projects paid off and it turns out that my dream company actually found me themselves without me even applying... and so still from South America I'm in final rounds of the interview! 🤗
All my worries about a gap in CV, no employment along with other problems I thought I was gonna have... It's all BS. So if anyone here is waiting for a sign. Well, this is it now. Go!22 -
HR sent around updated contracts asking everyone to sign them since the company changed its name, fair enough.
In the contract it stated "Your normal place of work will be X" - only X was many miles away, and I'd never worked there, never planned too. Assumed it was a mistake, sent it back. HR refused to change it, stating that the "normal place of work does not need to be the place where you normally work."
A lot of back and forth entailed, I refused to sign, I was reprimanded for not doing so, I was asked what my problem was as it made no material difference, and then I eventually replied with:
"Angela, I'm refusing to sign this as it's factually incorrect. No further explanation is required. I'll maybe consider signing this if you sign a piece of paper declaring you believe the moon is made of cheese, and you're the cow the milk came from to make it."
A very strongly worded email came back about how this was going on my record, I needed to offer a formal apology, etc. - all cc'd to my manager. I replied back, again copying my manager in, stating that this was ok, as I couldn't remain at a company who forced employees to sign dodgy contracts anyway.
Problem was (for them), I was a *massive* single point of failure for them at this point owing to some others leaving with no handover - hence I knew I wasn't going to be the casualty here. My manager flipped the lid at HR, got the CEO involved on threat of *him* leaving, and the whole thing massively blew up. Happy ending in that the HR person in question was fired, everyone else's contracts also had to be redone (I assumed everyone else just signed without looking which is worrying), and I actually got a pay rise out of it when higher ups realised the massive single point of failure I was.
But damn, I would've walked over crap like that. Walked pretty soon after anyway!13 -
Pm: Can you make a prototype in 3 weeks?
Me: Sure, but just for the sake of demoing something to the customer. It will take more time for production ready code.
(3 weeks later)
PM (to customer): We can sign you up today and you can use it tomorrow.
Me: 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄6 -

So my school forced everyone to buy a Chromebook G4 Education Edition which came with ChromeOS and we had to sign some shady e-policy. Days after I got it, I opened it up and manually reflashed the BIOS so I could use SeaBIOS and install Arch Linux.
Great, so I went on to instal Chrome and it was really slow and performance heavy, then I installed the new Firefox and it ran a lot faster...
*So hehe, Firefox works better than Chrome on a Chromebook!*9 -
Sales manager: Hi all, we are launching a new internal hackathon. Form up a team with the right expertise to help with address the problem statement and get going!
Me: what’s the problem statement?
Sales manager: you have to sign up first. There’s proprietary company info with our plans for next year involved. You have to agree to terms and conditions before continuing. Legal say so.
Me:
*signs up*,
*fills in docU-sign*,
*clicks through 3 other screens*
Ok let’s see this problem statement.
“What new and magical customer experience can you create and launch to win in our markets”
... that’s not a fucking problem statement ... and why the fuck does that require filling out a docu-sign form to see?
I REALLY fucking hate legal / sales people. Wasting everyone’s time.4 -
Just who the fuck from apple thought its a good idea to make the FUCKING SCROLL BAR overlap, the FUCKING PROPERTY ARROWS, everytime i accidentaly hover over it? I cant change shit! I have to wait few seconds every time i accidentaly hover over the scrollbar so i can be able to FUCKING CHANGE the value!
Dear Apple Inc,
Fix your shit! We're paying 100$ a year for what? More bugs and toruture? I didnt sign up for this bullshit! Give us back some real quality products, or just buy the company Jetbrains and let them build the IDE for you instead.12 -

Ah, every time I am on VPN, on every single website I have to prove that I am not a robot.
Just because I am using a VPN service to protect my information, that does not mean I am about to fuck the website up or DDoS the shit out of you. I wish the CDN providers would understand that and make our life easier.

Team Lead: "Today we're going to discuss how we can be more inclusive with getting people on board with XYZ organization. StackODev, what ideas do you have?"
Me: "Uh. Not really sure. I mean, it's not like we're being 'exclusive' in any way. People can join the XYZ organization without any restraint or discrimination. They just sign up on the website and they're done. There are no litmus tests of any aspect of their demographics or beliefs."
Team Lead: "Yeah, but how do we make sure we're getting more of Wanted Group A so that it's not as much of Less Wanted Group B?"
Me: "Well, that's a different question, isn't it? That would maybe meet the diversity and equity goal, but wouldn't that defeat the inclusion goal? Isn't it 'exclusive' to put more effort into attracting Wanted Group A people and less effort into attracting Less Wanted Group B people? And at what point do we draw the line between creating an enrollment system that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive and one that favors Group A over Group B explicitly?"
Team Lead: "Why don't you shut up now and we'll get ideas from some other team members."10 -

User: Bobby, please update this quality controlled document because I screwed it up.
Me: No there is a process for a reason, multiple people need to sign off on this. Also, we talked about this exact issue a year ago that you did not fix.
User: But its a minor change, several hyperlinks in the Word document need adjusted.
Me: Ok, you do it and submit it through the process again.
User: Can you make the changes to the document? It will take me forever and I'm very busy. I know you can do it much quicker than I can.
Me: I really don't want to edit this document myself. It doesn't apply to my job at all and I cannot verify any of the changes would be correct.
User: Oh it's fine. Make the changes and I'll look over it.

I hate my job sometimes.9 -
This happened sometime back..
A guy came to our university with a social network that he created. It was for students and professors to interact, to form study groups and earn points as they mark done topic as "studied". He made a deal with our university, so everyone was forced to sign up for this.
While he was giving a demo of the website, me and my friend started ranting.
"This website is shit. Why are we forced to use this?"
"This UI looks just like LinkedIn"
"This top bar is right out of bootstrap"
"I have seen that graph in one of the libraries. He didn't even change the defaults."
Another friend who was sitting besides us was hearing all this.
"I don't understand a word you guys are talking. It is too high level for me"
We replied, "Don't worry. We will talk in low level. 00101110010101..."4 -
I was asked to help with the website of this one club. Their 'IT head' is a business person. I told them no, but they sent me something anyways.
They sent me a zip file of their code
instead of giving me access to their GitHub repo. I then realized that they were using 3-year-old NodeJS and Express to power their static website and doing blog posts as JavaScript modules.
A second part of their architecture which was related to member sign up was horribly broken and also written in Node. I found out that they hard coded credentials to their Google Apps account, despite having the setup to pass it via environment variables.
And now they are worried that their sign up isn't working. Their developer resigned.
They want me to help them fix it within a very small timeframe. So they can use the code to collect membership fees.
This is what happens when you have business people develop code.6 -
Client: it's very important that we go live with the app's sign up process.
Me: ...but the mobile apps aren't complete yet.
Client: Yes, but marketing says we need to start getting downloads and sign-ups so we get better ratings than our competitors.
Me: ...but the user won't be able to do anything.
Client: We'll add the rest later when we have users!5 -
So my boss booked me a spot at a conference about "the future of online payments" and I received an email with auto created account (there was no sign up) with a clear text password.

Client: We want to onboard people with sign-up wizard just like (Massive Industry Leader) so remove the sign-up process from the app.
1 week of development later...
Client: We need to take photos of their information, but we think its easier to take photos on the phone so once they sign-up link then to the phone.
Me: How will they get the apps if it not in the app stores?
Client: Get the apps approved for the app store! duh!
2 weeks later... 4 failed app submissions..
Client: Would it be easier if we just add the sign-up on the app?
Me: Yes... like it was 3 weeks ago?
Client: Yes! Why did we remove it?
Me: You did in an effort to be more like (Major Industry Leader)
Client: ....but we're nothing like them! Change it back!
Me: >•<!!!
I have to fire my client...3 -
Microsoft be like :
"Oh, you're moving away from your computer for a while with all this stuff open? It would a shame if some were to.. UPDATE it!"
It asks with a pop up, and if you don't answer it, it thinks "Oh, you're not telling me if I should update now or not, but I think you probably want me to update. UPDATE!"
For me, if I keep ignoring the update, it starts to create problems for me out of nowhere. It starts to lag and then the task manager starts to lag. EVERYTHING IS NOT RESPONDING.
When I finally update it, it acts like there were no issues at all. Everything is fine..
Even with Xbox, if it wants to update, it doesn't let you go online until you do. If it loses connection mid-update for some reason, it begins the update again from the friggin START. All that time updating gone to waste. Recently, I'm having a lot of issues with it. It doesn't let me sign in a lot of times. "We couldn't sign you in" for some reason. It JUST CAN'T. If you have a slow internet connection, you can't play any game at all. I contacted Microsoft Support about that issue and they concluded that it was all because of the slow internet connection and there were no issues on their end and they told me to GIT GOOD (Not exactly those words). If it does sign you in, it kicks you out mid-game for some reason with the evil pop up saying "Bye User_Name". The game says that YOU signed out (Dumb game, doesn't understand Microsoft shenanigans) and returns you to the main menu. If your game didn't save, well, GOOD luck to you!
Everything takes forever to load, if it decides it's not gonna load, it gives me a really helpful error saying "Something went wrong".
Maybe it's just me, it just hates me particularly. It makes me think that Microsoft intentionally acts like a douche just to get attention..
(In the end I think, maybe, this all is not a big deal if you surrender and accept Microsoft as your overlord)
I tried a few ways to stop Windows from updating automatically, but nothing worked (Maybe, I should try again).
Maybe I should dual boot Linux, but that brings a whole new set of things that I'd have to deal with, doesn't it?
Sigh5 -
Live chat with Verizon support online
Wait in line for 30mins finally get an agent
But then she doesn't respond
I take a angry screen shot of the chat and send it to Verizon's Twitter
Get a quick response and the agent replies.

Then...
Me: I want renew/upgrade my services at the discount price
Agent: not possible. Contact regular support number to discuss
Me: what if I cancel and sign up again
Her: OK here's the direct number to our retention hotline7 -
Who else agrees that the play store should have a section which tells if an app needs a mandatory login to use it ? Like why the hell does a simple offline planner todo app need you to sign-up if you don't wanna use cloud backup. Jeez the user just trusted you by spending valuable time and bandwidth downloading your app. You owe it to him to show him some features of the app before shoving a sign up in his face. As an app developer myself I really think that this kind of behaviour turns off more users than anything else.2

I graduated last weekend. Walked in the commencement ceremony, took pictures, posted a !rant here, the whole 9 yards. Then what happens? I get an email from the dean of the engineering college at my university stating that my degree check was done incorrectly and that I am 3 credit-hours short of graduating, it is too late to sign up for an intersession course, and there are now 3 credit-hour courses offered as 8-weel courses. So here I am, with two Job interviews coming up, without my degree, wondering why the hell I found all this out A WEEK AFTER I "Graduated"! DA FUCK!!!!!9

Apple iPhone testing without being on the app store is so annoying, I had to sign up some people to test the app I've been working on and had issues on my end, it really is this whole security bullshit, really it isn't needed.
I couldn't get the team provisional certificate thing to show up because when I clicked the account the team certificate settings would disappear, only after right clicking and hitting help then clicking the team while it was selected could I go to the right window.
I don't see why it's so damn hard to do this crap.
Yet with Android, it's so easy.
I really have issues with the testing for this iPhone app, I went through so many different ways to try and get it to work.
Anyways all done, crashlytics is an awesome testing tool if you can get around that small issue I had.4 -

WHY ARE PEOPLE USING QUORA?? WHY AREN'T WE SWITCHING TO A GOOD ALTERNATIVE ALREADY??
• You can't browse it anonymously, they force you to sign in.
• You can't use it on web browser on phone, they force you to install mobile app.
• They don't let you put description to your questions.
• It's complicated to use and the UI isn't user friendly ( personal opinion )
• If you signed up with Google, Facebook etc.. They'll save your profile pic and won't update it ever.
My profile pic on quora is from 4 years ago and I can't change it yet.9 -

So this bloody hilarious, I submit my PWA to windows store, mainly for shits and giggles, see how the whole thing works and all that.
App gets approved, I go in and run another submission to upload a few extra screenshots, at this point they block it as I do not have a privacy policy, but accept user authentication, which is not the case, so after a few days of back and forth I ask them to attach a screenshot, so turns out I need a privacy policy as when the users click on the map link which opens Google Maps in a NEW window, has a sing in button.
According to them, this is 'Opening within my application" and I am apparently able to access user details via google own sign in link, not SSO.
So as a joke, after some frustration I wrote up a privacy policy, what is an even bigger joke is that they accepted it…
This exists solely for the benefit of Microsoft who are having trouble comprehending the fact that RTMS Events does NOT have Authentication.
Microsoft believes that as the application uses Google Maps, and when Google Maps opens a “Sign In” button appears, that I am able to access your personal information.
As any reasonable person will understand, that is not the case, logging into Google Maps/Google for the benefit of using Google Maps in NO WAY gives anyone else access to your personal information.
So to be clear, I do not have any interest or access of any kind to your personal information, should you have any concerns about your privacy, remember, that the “Sign In” button is for Google, not RTMS, take up any issues with them, I am pretty sure they have a REAL and actually NECESSARY privacy policy.

Joined a new company / team to work on an iOS app that has 2 different backend environments "Dev" and "Prod". Also being referred to in iOS speak as "Debug" and "Release".
Been trying to get accounts on these backends (no sign up in app, its controlled via another process). Eventually get access to "Dev" for one of the regions, so I load up "Debug" and its not working.
This is odd, so I open the Android app and load "Dev" and it works? I then Notice Android has "Dev", "QA", "Staging" and "Prod" for every region where as iOS only has 2 of these.
So I go back to iOS and find the file for the settings and it has iOS Debug assigned a variable for the backend Dev ... which is actually pointing to QA. Because they use QA to Debug and not Dev.
... confused? join the club4 -

I just tried to sign up to Instagram. I made a big mistake.
First up with Facebook related stuff is data. Data, data and more data. Initially when you sign up (with a new account, not login with Facebook) you're asked your real name, email address and phone number. And finally the username you'd like to have on the service. I gave them a phone number that I actually own, that is in my iPhone, my daily driver right now (and yes I have 3 Androids which all run custom ROMs, hold your keyboards). The email address is a usual for me, instagram at my domain. I am a postmaster after all, and my mail server is a catch-all one. For a setup like that, this is perfectly reasonable. And here it's no different, devrant at my domain. On Facebook even, I use fb at my domain. I'm sure you're starting to see a pattern here. And on Facebook the username, real name and email domain are actually the same.
So I signed up, with - as far as I'm aware - perfectly valid data. I submitted the data and was told that someone at Instagram will review the data within 24 hours. That's already pretty dystopian to me. It is now how you block bots. It is not how Facebook does it either, at least since last time I checked. But whatever. You'd imagine that regardless of the result, they'd let you know. Cool, you're in, or sorry, you're rejected and here's why. Nope.
Fast-forward to today when I recalled that I wanted to sign up to Instagram to see my girlfriend's pictures. So I opened Chromium again that I already use only for the rancid Facebook shit.. and it was rejected. Apparently the mere act of signing up is a Terms of Service violation. I have read them. I do not know which section I have violated with the heinous act of signing up. But I do have a hunch.
Many times now have I been told by ignorant organizations that I would be "stealing" their intellectual property, or business assets or whatever, just because I sent them an email from their name on my domain. It is fucking retarded. That is MY domain, not yours. Learn how email works before you go educate a postmaster. Always funny to tell them how that works. But I think that in this case, that is what happened.
So I appealed it, using a random link to something on Instagram's help section from a third-party blog. You know it's good when the third-party random blog is better. But I found the form and filled it in. Same shit all over again for info, prefilling be damned I guess. Minor convenience though, whatever.
I get sent an email in German, because apparently browsing through a VPS in Germany acting as a VPN means you're German. Whatever... After translating it, I found that it asks me to upload a picture of myself, holding a paper in my hands, on which I would have a confirmation code, my username, and my email address.. all hand-written. It must not be too dark, it must be clear, it must be in JPEG.. look, I just wanted to fucking sign up.
I sent them an email back asking them to fix all of this. While I was writing it and this rant, I thought to myself that they can shove that piece of paper up their ass. In fact I would gladly do it for them.
Long story short, do not use Instagram. And one final thing I have gripes with every time. You are not being told all the data you'll have to present from the get-go. You're not being told the process. Initially I thought it'd just be email, phone, username, and real name. Once signed up (instantly, not within 24 hours!) I would start setting up my account and adding a profile picture. The right way to ask for a picture of me! And just do it at my own pace, as I please.
And for God's sake, tackle abuse when it actually happens. You'll find out who's a bot and who isn't by their usage patterns soon enough. Do not do any of this at sign-up. Or hell, use a CAPTCHA or whatever, I don't fucking care. There's so many millions of ways to skin this cat.
Facebook and especially Instagram. Both of them are fucking retarded.6 -
Me: Hey can you sign up for tool X. Our company has an enterprise license, theres an internal form to fill out.
Him: Sure, I filled out a form and it says i'm on a waiting list, not sure if I used the right link.
Me: Was it a form on our companies intranet site?
Him: Yes.
Me: Did it say tool X on the top?
Him: Yes.
Me: Did it say sign up / create account?
Him: Yes.
Me: So I asked you to sign up for tool X under our companies license. You went onto our companies intranet, and filled out a form for that tool, that said create an account ... where exactly is the confusion? If there was more than one way to do it, I probably would have said something.5 -
Postman needs to learn it's god damned place.

Iphone autocorrect is truly revolutionary. I truly need these super common words to constantly be changed to complete nonsense.
"in" to "inn"
"an" to "available"
"do" to "doo" or "dou"
"and" to "abs", "ABCs"
Many, many others.
It took over 20 corrections to complete this simple thought.
Soft locks several times a week so I have to hard restart it in the middle of doing things.

Me - Yeah great so you say it's big data we are gonna be analyzing and having to store, are you currently utilizing a service and aggregating any of it into smaller manageable segments?
Client - well yeah it's lots and lots of data, we can share it with you if you sign a nda.
Me - ok... sure, how are you gonna share it with me.
Client - oh I can email you the spreadsheet.
Me - .... Spreadsheet ... Um... Ok... 'Stands up and walks away to tell this as the most interesting meeting of the month, to some one that will get it'

My gym decided to adopt a fitness app so members could sign up for classes. Their onboarding was terrible (to be nice about it). I really hate when businesses don’t understand the technology they want to use.
Me: I downloaded the app, but all the classes say to call the gym.
Gym: Are you using the email that’s on file for your apartment?
Me: Yes, I am because I read the gym’s instructions for using the app.
Gym: …
Me: I think the issue is I had an existing account on the app before the gym decided to use the app for its business.
Gym: Then that’s the problem. Delete your account and sign up for a new one.
Me: WTF 🤬 I am not deleting an account that I’ve had FOR YEARS just because you can’t figure out technical issues with the vendor. How did it never occur to you that gym members might already have accounts for a fitness app that’s been around for years and used by other businesses? Besides, this app doesn’t let users delete accounts from the app so I don’t know where you’re coming from with telling me to delete my account. -

So our teacher just has us sign up for a learning site called Gizmos with a ton of students information. A lot of students forgot their password as always and some didn't register with an email so I expected the teacher to reset them..
Then the teacher had students come up to the front of the f****** class and SHOWED THEM THEIR PASSWORD IN PLAIN TEXT. WHAT THE HELL4 -

Boss: [mad because I didn't do the thing his way]
Me: [physically numb from putting up with this shit for 3y now]
I've been checked out at work for awhile now, but today was some next level BS. I had to throw together an application demo in 3hr, couldn't take lunch today because I needed to sign for a package, sold an 3y old laptop on Ebay (and got chewed out because he thinks it's worth more than that).
The only reason I still show up to this shit-show of an office, is I don't want to leave my only other coworker with our boss.. That, and my interview isn't until monday....2 -

Story time!
I worked at a company that was the HQ for a sizable organization for a while, until it was eventually bought out by another company, and then yet another company who was located in the valley.
We were kinda a forgotten office not being the HQ, like most places like that are.
No customers EVER visited our building, few if any people knew we existed even, even our own company. I visited HQ in the valley on a number of occasions and was stalked by the video monitoring system for hours before I was stopped by security and the cops called because nobody believed there as an office outside the valley when I explained why my badge looked different .... (San Jose cops were very nice about it and really pissed at the security team.) But that's another story...
One day people who were never at our office decided (after many meetings without talking to anyone at the office) ... they decided the beige walls at our office didn't match the company colors.
So they took all the generic wall coverings down and painted all the walls an almost imperceptible different color.
So now we had an office with all white(ish) walls and nothing on them. Due to the configuration of the building there were these huge monolithic white walls that looked pretty dumb.
This lasted quite a while so as a joke I printed up and framed (found an old frame, as a former HQ we had lots of stuff lying around) a sign that said:
"This space intentionally left blank."
When the "mediocre hotel room quality art" and posters were scheduled to go up the folks putting the art up skipped that wall thinking the sign was official.
Even the somewhat corporate drone directors, and one VP at our office thought it was so funny, they didn't say a word about it. Word has it back at HQ they assumed it "must be fire code or something" and told the folks hanging the crappy art to skip that wall.
It lasted on that wall for a decade until we moved out of that building. On the last day, everything was moved, but that sign remained. No idea if it is still there or not...1 -

I swear upon the gods of the internet! Any time I am trying to read an article/blog post/anything and the site puts a god damn pop-up form asking me to sign up for something, I leave the site. ESPECIALLY ON MOBILE WHEN YOU CANT CLOSE THE DAMN WINDOW WITHOUT GIVING UP YOUR INFO.
And every time a client asks me to do this I nicely explain how much people hate pop-ups, 99% of the time I've closed the window or tab before I even read what the box is asking for, I don't care.
If the user is trying to read something, then they are trying to read something, and they don't want to be bothered with your ridiculous attempts for information gathering so you can spam them later.10 -
Time spent during a nodejs project:

- 1 hour actual coding!1 -
Most confusing sign-up form checkbox I've ever read:

Government website sends me my username and password over plain text email after I sign up...
WHAT WHY WHO LET THIS HAPPEN6 -
I just started work school doing IT administration and development, I was excited, almost nervously anticipating to see the wondrous things I'd being learning and the kickass programs I'd be creating...
Alas I walked into my first lesson and...
Teacher: Today we're going to be learning how to make a square in Excel using VBR.
I thought, well fuck no - I didn't sign up for this shit. Then today I was on this thing called the internet, have you guys tried it? Amazing stuff, I saw a panda dressed as Chuck Norris... Anyway, I was on the internet and found out about this 73 year old man who makes full-sized artworks made in Excel.
Now I know the meaning to life, to Excel programming... It's official, I'm going to make Picasso in Excel.
*Light sarcasm, actual true story.*2 -
X : Do you accept space for username at sign up?

How do you get tons of stars on Github in two steps?
1. Make a website for noob devs who cant tell the difference between a div and span.
2. Guide them to sign up on Github and ask them to give your repo a star as part of the process (dont forget visual guides)
Voila!
Now you get shitload of stars from people who dont even know what the fuck github does.5 -
Long story short: University fucked up single sign on.
For every online service I have, I set a different password, randomly generated ~ 20 characters long. At our university we have multiple systems but they offer a single sign on service which is quite nice because it is so non-transparent which service now uses which authorization. I changed my password a while ago and around the same time they also updated our mail client. Since then I am not able to log in which is not a big deal for me because I have mail forwarding.
Yesterday however I needed another service and also got rejected with my password. I knew from a friend that the passwords are fucked up and that some services have different restrictions (only 12 chars max.), so I decided to search how to reset my password. What the fuck was wrong with these people? It takes you five different pages to get the tiniest bit of information how to reset the password. Then on one page you can login with your single sign on and change the password. On that page you can also set the single sign on password, but if you enter an invalid password (in respect of the the other services) guess what? No feedback that you just locked yourself out of half the systems. Nice job. Also the password requirements are not next to the input fields where you change the password. Noo. That would be way to easy, remember the little small one line on the wall of text three pages ago? There you go.
Ok step one done. Now it should work, shouldn't it? Ohh no not so fast. One needs to activate the seperate service. Where you ask? Perfectly fine question. On the top of page four is a fucking one line table which looks like some five year old had some fun in excel. The button which takes you to the activation page is nearly invisible because of the non existing contrast. Also it is not a button but some arrow pointer thingy. Behind set arrow you have a page listing all differnt kinds of services, the description which you find on page two btw. No padding to decipher this shit what so ever. Nearly on the bottom is your needed button. Yes finally.
Finally I want to login, no good. Try again. Still no good. Go back to the fucked up excel table look at my username and think to myself what's the difference here? The table is so small and again no margin or padding. Apparently they cut of the last character of my normal username which i have which is fucking ridiculous.
What is wrong with you people, we are a TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY, is it so hard for you to find someone decend to unify this shit?1 -
!rant I just put my phone in my pocket with the devrant app open.
I take my phone out again about 10 minutes later and i'm in the process of making a new devrant account....
So somehow while the phone was in my pocket, it must have clicked the logout button and sign up button and had entered random letters for the email name and password section.
Boy, i'd like to know what my pocket (or Ass) wants to rant about....2 -
Simple there are four other developers on my team. Yet, I do all of the work.
I'm picky about spesific tasks, so I would rather do THOSE by myself, by we have a Trello board where I've marked the tasks I want to do myself, and everything else is open for grabs.
Some tasks I will asign others (one developer specifically) and days will pass and no code gets touched. So I end up having to take it over. :|
Like, guys, I get it. You have other things to do. But could you atleast *try* and help me without me having to ask? If not, then why did you even sign up? I want to get this out the door so our project doesn't go under and we can make some money. I have other things I would like to do as well, you know. Like take a day off, or spend time with my girlfriend.9 -
I've got this customer who for some fucking reason won't change their DNS to point to our new servers, but wants to fucking stay on that old piece of crap, where we have to ask our sub-provider to generate a CSR to send to our customer to use to sign a certificate to send to us to send to our sub-provider. Because yeah, that's so much fucking easier than just pointing your domain to our new system, and get SSL set up automatically. For fucks sakes! And also, your certificate expires tomorrow, and since our idiot sub-provider hasn't responded to my email about CSR in a week, you basically have no option. So get that thumb out your butt and just switch the DNS!

Me and my gf are looking for a house. Since we’re both on temporary contract we want a declaration of intent. For arranging a decent mortgage. My gf get’s called and signed within a day, getting compliments and a thumbs up.
I get called after three days; yeah eh we need to talk about this. I can’t sign this right now. A talk with both director and HR. Let’s get stressed...7 -
Most people I talk to in the industry hate the "puzzle-y" nature of interviews (e.g. coding on a whiteboard, now get it to run in linear time, oh wait there's a trick you don't know but could totally look up if given the chance) and acknowledge that it does a poor job determining the value of the prospective hire.
Why then is there no sign of this changing? I realize it's a hard problem to solve but in theory the entire company is at stake when it comes to hiring good/bad devs. You'd think somebody would have come up with a better way.9 -
Don't you just hate filling a sign-up form which is validated to such an extent that it even requires everything to be entered in capitals. UGH! JUST CONVERT TO CAPS IN YOUR BACKEND FOR GODS SAKE!!!1

So on a sign up website for a programming competition they ask you to choose your screen size to fit the webpage....
Oh the irony1 -
So the other day I randomly checked out a few job postings on some recruiting agency’s website. Didn’t even sign up or anything.
The very next day I get a call from them. The person on the phone tells me they noticed I had visited their website and was wondering if I was interested in applying to any of the offers. Even as a developer I was totally taken aback as to how they managed to track me down based on a single visit.
I believe I ended up on their website by clicking on a link on LinkedIn. I’m assuming it’s via LinkedIn that the managed to get my info (phone etc.). All in all I’m not extremely surprised. But to me it’s downright creepy and it makes me feel like I’m being stalked. Also it makes recruiters look totally desperate and I’m not sure I would want to entrust them with the responsibility of handling my career4 -

I made a New Year's Resolution to take more of an interest in my Internet privacy. Feel like it's something I should have done a long time ago. I've stopped using Google search (DuckDuckGo instead), moved away from my Gmail account (Tutanota instead) and stopped using Chrome (Firefox/Firefox Focus instead). I've had my Gmail account since they first announced it and you could only sign up if someone invited you. It felt good to delete 7000 emails and what I estimate must have been 13-14 years of Google/YouTube searches. Currently experimenting with VPNs, considering paying for ProtonVPN soon.9

Security fail here. I've just started a PPI claim and have been provided a link to a so called "very secure" client area.
There are no username or passwords and the screenshot is not a first time sign up screen.
All I need to login is a surname, postcode and DOB - all information easy enough to find online.
Pretty bad IMO, esp, so considering the effort required to add a proper login using a username/password combination.
I mean I'm logged in now and have no option to set an account password :|3 -

Step 1. Have no dissertation project.
Step 2. Wait for the last 3 hours till the deadline to come up with an idea.
Step 3. Realise that your just-thought-up project idea is something companies like Google and Amazon are still trying to figure out. But there is no time left.
Step 4: Approach your supervisor with the words "Imagine the possibilities". They respond with "Imagine the difficulty".
Step 5: They sign on it regardless since they are curious to see you fuck up with style, also you are too much in love with your idea already, and refuse to drop it.

So apparently some major vpn connection providers got compromised some time ago.
https://twitter.com/hexdefined/...
https://twitter.com/cryptostorm_is/...
adding the fact that major enterprise vpn network providers had security flaws earlier this year
https://sdxcentral.com/articles/...
Sums up what was the major topic in security this year.
At the end I see something like cloud act that allows wiretapping anyone.
https://justice.gov/opa/pr/...
And when we multiply this by number of companies that have services in cloud that sums up privacy these days.
Non existent.6 -
I'm on the fence about if the existence/mass production of shit like this is a good sign of a slightly more inclusive economy... or an early indicator of the apocalypse.
The circled part highly amused me.
It does give me s sense of peace and order due to it being sold by menards. They buy up bulk failures to launch and use their large audience to quickly dispose of them... so whoever had this stroke of 'genius', likely lost significant capital.73 -

I got invited to interview with a startup(series B) by a former manager. I told them I had RSUs vesting in six months and that unless they could give me a sign on for their amount I couldn’t leave. The recruiter says “Don’t worry, we can get creative with the sign on bonus”
I go through their whole interview process and get the offer.
Sign on is 15% of the amount of my vesting RSUs, and a base below what I make now.
Why waste my time not telling me the comp range from the start and why lead me on with a comment about a sign on? I told you up front what I made!1 -
Moral of the story: sometimes you've got to take a hit to be better off in the end.
A client asked me to design flyers for him, at first I was hesitant since this would be a stand alone design task instead of one incorporated with development.
He kept asking since he liked what I designed for my other clients (logos, etc..) So I finally said yes and we agreed to a final preview before he would pay me. I had asked him for color schemes, certain pictures, info, etc. but he told me it was completely up to me.
I finished the design, sent him the preview and he told me it was shit compared to my other work and that he didn't want it anymore 😅. I used to get mad as fuck every time this happened but now I don't even bother .
I know many people are going to say "You should have had him sign a contract, bla bla". I know, I know, but you can't let people sign a contract for every small thing, it completely depend on the situation and I prefer to know which of my lesser known clients are assholes so I can quit accepting tasks from them. This saves me much more time in the end. -
So I did an interview today and the problem was given a = 1 2 3 and b = 2 3 write code that finds the common elements.
I asked what the data structures are and they said it can be whatever so I said cool then we can use sets and do an interception to get unique elements.... this was in Python... but for the life of me I couldn't remember what the intercept notation was... and brought that up hoping they're give me a hint haha.
So I ended up writing a 8-9 line solution for what could've been a one liner fml: return a | b.
All because I didn't know the notation and still needed to give them something. Painful to write when I knew I was reinventing the wheel. Sign
I almost never use sets so this was heartbreaking hopefully I still get an offer!
How bad of a fail is this in y'all opinion?7 -
I've never liked Quora, but today I decided to sign up because I had an interesting question to ask, about my solution for an angular problem and why it could not be applicable.

For as long as the world needs computers to do complicated stuff, it'll need good, skilled developers to tell them what to do.
Good, skilled developers don't come easily or cheaply, so they can command a hefty premium, both in terms of job perks & salary.
So putting that together - a well paid, good job in a reasonably stable field? Sign me up.1 -
I hate that services think that just because you sign up for their service (even just to use once - such as a job board or something) they have permission to send you unlimited, unsolicited marketing emails.

As many here might be aware, the new RTX series dropped! With this, a lot more performances… and a lot more power consumption
At this rate you'll soon need a dedicated grid to power this shit. This is pissing me off, as we're not living in times of energetic abundance. Prices of fuel skyrocket due to the situation in Eastern Europe, and we need more than ever to find alternative energy sources that don't mess our planet further up. So the last thing we need is some piece of computer hardware that chugs near as much as a fucking vacuum cleaner
There's a petition treating of that with more details, if you agree this is a problem, it would be awesome if you could sign it and share it everywhere you can

I am currently signing up for a college and need to accept some rules. First of all I have to accept some rules concerning some IT stuff. These rules should be found on their website. But they are nowhere to be found. At least they have a search function. Using this function I was able to find some old websites that did not even include the terms I searched for.
One search result pointed to a PDF viewer with the error message 'Failed to load PDF document.'. Assuming that the actual pdf document is somewhere referenced in the source, I open up the DevTools and search for 'pdf'. Quickly I found a fucked up URL ending in 'pdf'. Somehow the domain name repeated twice. This probably caused the prior mentioned error message. After copying and fixing the link I can finally read the (7 years old) rules.
Maybe this is a requirement to find these rules to be able to sign up.?1 -
I am not the only one that has ranted about this but it needs to be repeated: FUCK QUORA

OK...so not to long ago some guy I know from my old school contacted me regarding a start-up he was planing on doing...first he wanted me to work for free (which, in retrospect should've been the first warning sign) and then offered me shares of his non-existing company as payment. I didn't want that so I told him that I'll only work for real money. After some discussions he agreed (tho for less money than I demanded) and I started investing more time into the project (talking to him and his partner about what they expect, looking into some libraries and evaluating whether they can be used in the project or not...stuff like that). Some weeks later (some days before I would sign the contract) he calls me and tells me that he had found someone else to do it who would accept shares as payment...fuck that fucking self-righteous prick and his fucking start-up...the idea was stupid anyways...

PE Team response.. okay give us a 2 weeks we need to write some terraform, update some terraform module, need you to sign your life away as the aws account owner, then use this internal application to spin up a static site, then customize the yml file to use nuxt, then we will need you to use this other internal tool to push to prod...
ME: ITS a static site... all I need is a s3 bucket, cloudfront, and circleci9 -
Introduce Git - Promote Collaboration
In the real world they won't work alone. Instead of giving individual projects give them a module to work for.
Example project: Library System
Student 1: Sign-up module
Student 2: Log-in module
Student 3: Book sorting module
Student n: x module
Output: A working system
With this approach, students will learn to work with a team and communicate properly about the project they're working for.1 -
When clients fucks up installment even though there are clear instructions included...

Tl;dr: I'm a shitty PHP programmer, but even a shittier JS programmer.
I made a whole image upload system which has an elaborate login/sign up facility, checks the dimensions of an image, it's size, checks if it's broken, compares it to previous uploads to prevent duplicates, take comments, sorts them per user and stores it efficiently in a db and accesses it using PDO, not mySQL, displays it as a gallery, and even lets the users transfer images amongst them.
But I can't make a simple shopping cart in js.
Why? Just, why?3 -
Bought my first VPS, because the shared plan we are using is shit.
Spent just half an hour trying to log in, because upon registration they encouraged a strong password with simbols and everything.
But in reality a root password can only contain letters, numbers, underscore and minus sign... The fuck is wrong with you? Reducing the entropy is one thing, but really fucking up the most essential part of a VPN setup?7 -
Alright I hate these backhanded guilt trip attempts for people to sign you up for their spammy stupid email campaigns. If I don't want to subscribe don't give me a sarcastic smart ass button that I have to hit. (note the text at bottom) then again I also hate myself because this is totally the kind of shit I would do if I owned a news site...4

Drove past the offices of a company that I am in the final stages of completing a website for. The sign on the building says To Let. I've been paid just under half up front, i have a solid contract but I'm fucked if they've vanished. I'll have to get to the bottom of this. FML1

We had a project with a web app and an Android app. We split it out, he took the web and I was working on Android. He was very curious to do the project with me and very motivated at the beginning. We agreed on our first module that was user authentication. After some time when I told him that first module of app is ready and asked him on his progress, (When ever we had a talk he pretend like every thing is going fluently, though I continously told him ask for help if needed ) he opened a folder in vs code containing two files "index.html" and "style.css" and showed me the "login & sign up" design he was doing for days. I have no option but to appreciate his work. On that day I created new folder on my machine "web application" and started working.3

I had to do a double take... Needless to say I can't sign in for shit, fucknows what mental finger dance I did on the shift key when signing up to these guys...
Also: forgotten password is "please type your email, if there's an account associated to this email address we'll fucking email it with password reset instructions"...
Fucking arsehole fucks, I just wanna pay my fucking energy bill. -
> Sign up to website
> They start sending promotional emails and stuff
> Don't mind them at first, but slowly and steadily it grows
> More promotional emails make phone ping unnecessarily
> Get frustrated and hit "Unsubscribe" from the mailing list
> 10 minutes passes
> Phone pings and gets picked up to check
> Same company sends an email saying "You've been unsubscribed. You won't receive any more emails from us."
WHAT BULLSHIT PRACTICE IS THIS???3 -
Went to Colorado to de-stress, came back with a job offer and more stress. Not sure how I feel about this, but damn it I love Colorado.
-
What in the fuck is the Roger's website built with? It takes way too fucking long to sign in and load my account. And there is a modal that pops up asking me which account I want to view when I sign in. 5 seconds later the styling for it finishes loading and the modal snaps down like 50 pixels, so right when I'm about to click one account, I accidentally click the wrong one. For such a large company, I would have hoped their shit wouldn't have been built by fucking idiots.

Rule #1 about devRant... No names. Never know when they'll sign up, see it, and make the connection. That's gonna make for some awkward elevator silence.2

So my software engineering school which cannot run their intranets correctly just failed and our emails were used to sign up to a dating site targeted to a most peculiar community. (I won't disclose the nature of the site)4

How the actual fuck? Today I found another page where I can't sign up because the fields do not recognize when I typed in them in firefox.
One of those sites is to change passw of university account.
Guess what browser they recommend...4 -
Okay, had a freelance JavaScript gig (with Three.js 3d lib). Usually I put the code on github so I have easier time switching between Desktop and laptop during work, unless I have to sign an NDA or something. Today at 5 AM I got mail from freelancing site support that client reported me for having code on public repo (but it's not like it is a proprietary software, it's based on threejs editor). I made repo private and went to sleep. Later I'm reading through messages, guy was cursing me, threatend to sue me etc. Ended up dropping the client. Did I do something really unprofessional? Unless I'm told not to, I want to show my code and I don't believe in not showing it by default. What do you guys think?13

Lady comes over to my cube and stands silently until I notice her in the mirror. She cheerfully asks that I help her reset her password.
Okay...one, I'm buried up to my balls in work that needs to be done, and here she is camping, expecting me to feel a disturbance in The Force to help on her whim, when our company has an issue system for shit like this. 👊
Two, I'm 👏 a 👏 developer 👏! My sign says Software Engineer on it, which might give some context as to why she forgot her password.
Look, I was nice to her. But it seems like I'm getting more and more phone calls and surprise visits lately from people that I shouldn't be.1 -
Fuck off OneDriveSetup.exe, nobody asked you to install anything. This "i7" is only dual-core, and I need both of them to run my code, kthx.undefined nobody wants your crap goddammit microsoft get your shit together why did i sign up with another windows shop

Today is the last day to sign up for the unofficial devRant hackathon.

Back when I was doing my uni final year project. i was given the choice of either writing codes or writing documentation (graphs, requirement and a whole lot of other madeup bullshit)
I deicide go with coding, sign up with laracast. watch a whole lot of screen cast. and BOOM, coding is easy - I was literally quoting bombastic technical terms like many-to-many relationship to my group mates after 2 videos. (didn't even know what was bootstrap at that time) Thats was when I decide I wanna code for a living. Laravel made me a developer.1 -
They offered 50% off if I signed up for their "club" at the clothing store

Everything going REALLY fucking bad, I don't even feel like writing about that in detail but damn, if some terrorist group just detonated me right here and now I might well very thank them for the kindness.4

I've been here for almost a year now but was too lazy to sign up. It was only a commute or lunch timepass thing.
But finally few days ago something so frustrating happened that I actually signed up. I dint post it as it would have been immature but now that the plus icon works I finally can post stuff..!1 -
What the hell is wrong with the browser on iOS....
For Christ sakes almost no input attributes work. I have a Sign Up feature that validates passwords with a pattern attribute; doesn't work, required attribute; doesn't work, input type number; doesn't work.
What the fuck is wrong with this thing. Even Internet Explorer knows what those attributes means. Absolute joke now i need to implement it manually. Fuck off apple.11 -
Omg fucking Microsoft Teams shit. Stop it with your auto pop op Emoji menu shit you utter cunts.
I just want to copy the bit of chat…not critique the fuck out of it
Why did our company sign up to this filthy mess? Cunt CTO taking backhanders…when he retires we will be left with this shit…what a wanker!9 -
Am I the only person who draws equal sign between "being politically correct at work" and "being politically corrupted"?
It's really depressing to watch shits not getting done in the department because competent people refuse to speak up their minds and deliberately not putting efforts to make a change in order not to offend incompetent authorities for being worse than useless!1 -
- Sign up to a new platform.
- Get asked to set a new password for it.
- Ah, I don't have time to think about a new password cuz I can't rely on my hamster equivalent brain to remember it.
- Same password it is, that I've been using for the past decade for every other platform.15 -
Job rant.
There is something terribly wrong with job search portals. The portals are suppose to point me to jobs from companies. Instead staffing companies flood these portals and make them impure. So, when under job and apply essentially they take me to their own portal and ask me to sign up.
If your portal was good then I would have signed up.
I looked at job description and loved it. Then half way the form I realise this company is asking too many questions.. realised I am not apply for job but creating profile on some another portal.
Damn all of you for playing with a jobless engineer's feelings. -
Working for a startup building a device / app that let you answer your landline phone on your mobile, and get notifications of missed calls etc.
While developing I purposely didn't secure the endpoint that controlled push notifications.
I waited for the boss to sign up, went to the DB and stole his token. From time to time i'd send a request telling him he missed a call from his wife or son.
... then kicked back and watched the madness and frustration ensue. -
So, there was an Internship and Recruitment training seminar held in my college yesterday, by a firm that's very well known apparently. Some wonderful new things that we learned:
*There are 4 types of loops, not 2. (Okay, maybe on a technicality, but still not conventionally)
*You aren't asked to write code when interviewing for a programming job. (Well, what?)
*A rolling stone has no mass. (Probably the worst mutated proverb I've ever heard)
I'm not going to sign up for this program.20 -
Spent 2 hours today doing L1 support work!!! God i hate working with lazy people!!!
2 hours wasted checking for an application bug on all deployed client pcs when the only issue is the printer has no fucking paper!!!
L1 and L2 support exists for these kind of issues!! Do your god damn jobs!!! -
I've been meaning to sign up on dev.to for a while now.
Finally started the sign up process. They require you to agree to follow their code of conduct which states that they will prioritize empowering the marginalized communities and in order to do that they will *not* act on complaints of reverse-isms. Reverse (sexism | racism), cisphobia, etc.
Am I the only one who thinks that this is wrong? I'm all for empowering people, tolerance and not getting trolled but outrightly rejecting complaints on topics that seem politically incorrect sounds superfluous to me. Am I interpreting something wrong? (I hope I am because in general I find the community to be nice and positive)3 -
Adding features and fixing bugs in a system built with PHP 5 by a college student is something I didn't sign up for.3
-
Have you ever thought to send a security code to the email the user put in the sign up form just to say him later "the password must contains at least 8 characters, etc." and ask him to fill the form again from scratch?
Who is so dumb to put the input check in this order? Honeywell.
- The email is correct?
- Ok, send a code and ask to confirm it
- The password meets the requirements?
- No, ask to confirm the email again just for fun.
I'll just ignore the waste of server resources to send N * Number of users emails for no reason.2 -
I did it. I switched from Android to iPhone. Why? Because they came out with a new UI and features with the iPhone X and it’s been 3 years since I’ve owned an iPhone; I don’t like to be left out of new tech.
I already don’t care for it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautifully designed phone. The clicks, haptic, and general feel of the phone is great and so is the X’s different UI. But the features? I feel like I’ve gone backwards a few years from where my Galaxy S8 got me. Facial recognition is actually great, but I could have had that with my GS8, but I preferred iris scan.
I forgot my wallet at home and wanted to buy a drink from the drug store by my work. I usually use Samsung pay which uses MFC & NFC so I can just use it with any magnetic reader; no says iPhone. I try to unlock my phone in the car, but there’s not trusted device option like in Android, so I unsafely struggle. I want to sign into my gyms WiFi, but no sign in option pops up like in Android; I’ve got to pull up safari.
I fucking love my Apple Watch though.
It’s definitely better than the Android watches that I’ve tried, and that might keep my with an iPhone much ch longer than I want until a better Android watch comes out.
I just think it’s good not to fanboy anything. Be open, find all the pros and cons.3 -
Updated my react native version to 0.34
It's all fucked up. Everything is broken. No sign of recovery.
There goes another one of my unfinished personal project -
Woke up to a migraine... Went to work (this wasnt the best idea), got sent home for the rest of the day. Riding a bike while your brain feels like it wants to exit your skull is not the best thing. Then it proceeds, puking is sometimes a sign for me that the worst part is over. Then head movement headache for some more hours and everything is fine again. Timespan of the whole procedure is about 10 to 12 hours.
At least I have a version of migraine with a temporary vision restriction beforehand according to the doctor some years ago. If I would listen to that signs I could prepare better...4 -
Back in https://devrant.com/rants/5492690 @Nihil75 referred to SlickVPN with a link, where you can buy a lifetime licence for $20. I thought - what the hell.. I don't need a public VPN rn, but for $20 for a lifetime lic - I'll take it, in case I'll ever need one.
I had some trouble signing up - the confirmation email never reached my inbox. So I got in touch with support. And they.... generated and send me a password in plain-text.
And there even isn't any nagging requirement to change the pass after I sign in for the first time!
IDK... As for a service claiming to be security-oriented, the first interaction already screams "INSECURE".
Well.. should still be OK for IP switching, to unlock Netflix content I guess. Don't need anything secure for that 🤷15 -
I don't know if it's just me but if you sign up for Dashpass and then cancel during the month, it refunds the entire subscription...
Even when I've used all the benefits...
Seems like the devs forgot an if statement...2 -
Fucking ant-cumstained garbage bag. How come you are so inaccessible you satan website.
I wanted to look at someone on facebook. But for some things you need an account, so I sign up with my spam mail and a random name and the birth date that was filled in
When I try to login facebook says: your account might be compromised, what is your birth date to verify it's you.
Wtf I just made this. So I fill in the standard birth date.
WRONG BIRTH DATE YOU CAN'T TRY AGAIN FOR THE NEXT 15 MIN
Im glad I abandoned you long ago.
But apparently you know you suck since you don't allow new users? -

Fuck Apple with two pineapples in the ass. 99€ per fucking year to tell me how the fuck should the access to my app be. I damn require users to sign up. I only need email and country. Not a single other piece of data. My app is not a goddamn catalogue or boutique. No free content, free app but each user needs to Auth themselves. You fucking telling me y pay 99€ so you decide how the access to my app should be?
Cunt Apple should rot in 10 day old humid shit and let devs be owners of their apps and hard work. Clowns.7 -

FYI: Oracle Cloud has 2 servers "always free". Probably useful for some of you. Personal projects n such.

Why do these article sites of news channels have a shitload of adds in it , so much that you can barely even see the article ... and even worse , some of them add random pop up modals in between of their article.
Like I am reading about salt or sugar which is better to add in curd and suddenly I see a f*cking deaf person trying on a hearing aid and smiling like some girl in sanitary pad advertisement after she aced in her exam because she used the extra wide pad.
And some of those website feel so delusionally confident about their articles that they decide to add a "Sign up to Read full article" thing in it ...
I was just trying to read "top 10 places to visit this monsoon in [city name]".2 -

LOL this showed up, the bar is a removed sign, the dot is an error sign, but together I got a "!" which makes it even more weird cuz the error is there because of those removed lines.
geez, I'm so silly3 -
I just realised how much I fucked up. This whole 2 days I was working on something and new and new bugs were showing up every fucking minute. I get it now. It was a fucking sign the whole logic was fucked. Oh fuck me!

To all websites requiring at least one upper case, one lower case, one number, one special character, 25 emoji and 49 unicorns in the password when signing up.
If you say something is required, then your regex BETTER be checking ONLY for those things. You should not have hidden requirements for passwords that users are supposed to dream about and know. Especially if it's a super time-sensitive thing that they should have opened 2 Fridays ago.
I had to pull my hair out for 20 minutes (that felt like an hour) before looking at their code and reading their regex. The regex was different from what the page said the requirements actually were. What were they even thinking? 😑
The rest of everything related to this organization uses an SSO system, why can't they just use it? Isn't the whole point of SSO to avoid a different login for every tiny part of the system?
I wonder what the other less technically inclined people using the system are doing right now. Sadly, I have no way of letting them know.
I sincerely hope the dev that made that website faces the same thing while picking a password for creating an account somewhere else and realizes what he/she did.
I really needed to let it out.
I feel much better now.
Time to take out the stress ball :)1 -
[Conference Call on Project Launch]
🤡: we just came up with an extra list of features to add to the system
🙊: but we just finished the system and it is ready on UAT server to sign off
🤡: we want these features, they are essential for a better backend admin experience
🤡: and we have been working on this project for almost a year!! we need these features and launch now!
🙊: (well, it took you guys six months to sign off on the initial graphics designs...) can we first launch what we have on UAT site first as they have been sitting here waiting for your approval
🤡: ok. i will test them and provide feedback. if it’s all good, then you can launch it.
🙊: ok. we will do another set of UAT after launch for your new features.
🤡: ok. i will let you know when we can launch the current UAT.
[Two weeks later]
🤡: #%^#*+!! why are the new features not on the UAT site yet!! why are there no changes after two week!! we cannot accept more delays! really need to launch asap!

I wonder, are captchas in captcha solving service sign-up forms - connected to the service? so you're for free solving a captcha inside the pool?1
-
I’m sorry, but if you are still complaining about JavaScript, but have really done nothing to replace it as a language or produce an alternative on the web, your complaining is not solving anything and kind of annoying…
It’s like saying, “I hate how every time I cook food I have to wash dishes”, well like I guess that’s just part of the thing u sign up for…22 -
Finishing up the last few edits on the WordPress site from hell, client is here to see the finished product, senior dev looks over at me "so are the registration/login forms and sign out button working correctly again?"
Me: "yeah I'm just checking one thing first-SON OF A BITCH"
senior: "that does not instill confidence that the forms are working"
Wasn't a big deal, forgot to close a div and, well you know how that works -
So I was referred to an ai tech startup that's building a bot that you can talk to about your career n experience and it will suggest and connect you to companies looking to hire. I was really excited when I saw their site and signed up for their beta.
Well I got an invite and tried talking to it but it doesn't respond...
Not a good sign right?1 -
Soo.. what do you do as a software developer, rank senior, when you turn 35 and programming kinda becomes repetitive. Data source this, controller that, factory f-yeah. Well, you sign up for math studies. And then you realize you forgot everything down to multiplication tables... fuck3

I'm thinking about creating a central login system for all my websites, where you get redirected to and then login/sign up and then be redirect back. A bit like oAuth.
I have a few websites (and more in development) that use a login system, so that could be really useful to have... Especially because all of them are built from scratch and have their pros and cons. And security wise it's easier to concentrate on one system instead of all of them.
Another benefit is that you save some DB space, if you have lots of users!
And of course the users benefit from it as they'll be able to use all my websites with a single account.
What do you think about it?
I'll still need to do a bit of research on security but other than that, I only see benefits!2 -
Wish we could downvote whole websites / url links
Researching information and the website is just plain wrong...
Search engines would also be better done using bookmarks I think
But then you'd need to sign up to certain communities to share bookmarks with and not others, because just like people make bank gaming SEO they will try to infect these networks to sell you useless stuff just the same2 -
Someone has a cloud VM running automated attempts to sign up at our website, which is causing the payment processor to block us because of all the suspicious credit card creation attempts, so we get no new signups... I suppose implementing recaptcha is a potential solution/mitigation for this? Do you guys have any other suggestions?12

Client had me implement an exit intent modal on their website, inviting visitors to sign up to their mailing list when they moved to close the browser tab.
Client then had me implement an on page load modal which displays the poster for their upcoming event.
Client just emailed "Double popup happening!" with a screenshot of their website with both modals displayed at once.
Kicking myself for replying and explaining that this was expected behaviour in light of what they'd asked for instead of responding, simply, "Yes".1 -
Okay I'm guessing everyone here has experienced something like this but...
I dev for Company A and we have various other companies and clients utilize our service. Now, a client from Company B comes to us and says that they are having problems signing in. Apparently the page just tells them "Can't sign in".
"That's odd," I think to myself, "because our failed sign-in messages aren't that terse and usually tell you why."
I look on the system, client is registered under Company B and has verified their email address. All good there. My guess? Trying to sign in to the wrong site (we have a jobs site too) because that sometimes comes up first on the googs.
We get an email from client just now: "Hi, still can't sign in. Please see screenshot below."
I shit you not, she was trying to sign in to her own company's website that clearly had "Company B" written above the sign in box.1 -

Guess I've been pretty lucky, although I can think of one time a client screwed me.
Ran a job with a Cisco tech who forgot to get a sign off. He did have emails from client saying he was happy with job but things turned sour after a few weeks.
Long story short, we ended up settling out of court, I lost £8k on the job and had to sign a gag order.
Fuckers. Even worse I can't name a shame them. Actually, fuck it. Do not ever work with these arseholes: https://www.smartadvisers.com/

Client: I put a signed copy of my contract on my website, like someone told me to do, so that people can click a button, download it and sign it. I'm having the problem of people changing the contract before they send it back to me. Can you fix that?
Me: Yes. Take your contact off of your website.
Client: ok, my next question is: can you make it so that I can use the phone and the internet at the same time? Someone told me that I couldn't. I have cable internet I think. (She was remembering dial-up)
Every topic began with "someone told me ..."
This client is going to be .... interesting.2 -
What a consultant's gotta do for his timesheet when homeworking:
1. Fill in Excel, send to self by mail (corporate bitlocker protected PC on proxy that doesnt allow local printer connections)
2. Go upstairs to secondary Windows PC (no Excel on main Linux laptop) and open mail
3. Send to printer, wait 10 minutes (old printer needs to 'warm up')
4. Sign timesheet and go back upstairs
5. Scan signed version, send mail to self.
6. Open personal mail on corporate laptop, send to manager. (can't send directly from personal mail)
7. Wait to get back signed timesheet from manager
8. Finally, send to own admin dept.
2 story points completed, time for a break.1 -
Guys I need your help.
Recently there has been questions on whether there's a developer oriented dating service which made me think of buiding one.
On research I noticed that people have tried but you always end up with more people from the outside.
So I decided to make my service as developer friendly and user unfriendly as possible.
it's more command based rather than normal click and touch inteefaces.
More like the shortcuts on your ide or the terminal commands.
As part of my research involved talking to other developers and came the desire for more opinions.
here's what I have:
- Github sign in/up only
- Link github stats to account
- Messages (obviously )
- links to your social accounts
- use of devrant avatar
What am looking for is:
+ what do you guys need from a dating service.
+ name you musts, avoid the ones named by others
+ name what you expect to know about the person on the other side before talking to them and before meeting with them.8 -

Test& test5 = *test4;
Test* test6;
Test& test7 = *test6;

I am in a very difficult position
I work at a pharmaceutical industry that has also a start up side company, and i worked in the second till now. I have a very attractive offer from a multinational that wants to set up dev teams for innovative projects, with a raising around 400 euros (very good amount for greece).
The thing is, that as i went to announce my leaving to my boss (he is a very rich industrialist) he offered me many benefits and to hire me in his mainly business (the pharmaceutical) with similar raising, if not the same, and also my colleague, and the promise of educational budget (which i was lacking in the start up, imagine that phpstorm was with academic licence). All that cause i was complained about the sort of IT culture in the way we are working till now. Also he promised that i will get knowledge through the projects of pharmacy industry that will help me in my career in the future.
Now the thing is that i was ready to sign up the contract with the multinational company and i have to send an email with an apology instead of my vat number and my digital signature. I feel totally jerk, how can i handle this, and say it with a nice way? Should i say some lie, that a problem came up or tell that i had a proposition that i cannot refuse?8 -
I asked someone to work on a project with me because I'm trying to make a game
Simple
They set up interactions with entities, I set up actual functions
Since I'm having trouble, I create a roster for people to sign
This one dude signs like he knows abso-fucking-lutely everything
And as we're sitting in the CS Lab the only things I can see and hear him doing is typing what he needs on github
pressing CTRL+C
and CTRL+V
and I don't really mind because hey
sometimes our brains slow down
but when I asked for help with this one thing he's out here treating me like a fucking retard
like okay at least I don't need github 24/7
in the end it went okay -
So, i have that assignment about docker stuff. nifty piece of software i must say.
anyways im installing docker software on windows bc im thinking if i have something that gives me at least the correct structure and some skeletal syntax i will have a faster grasp of the thing. expecting some sort of high level ide but end up instead with what looks like a blank window, with the only obvious choice being sign into some bullshit i dont need. but thats another story
my point is:
when installing the thing it prompted me to install WSL2. which i supposedly am not supposed to have because my cpu doesnt support intel virtualisation. but being impatient (thats why i came to look for an assisted solution), i pursued the installation.
lo and behold: i end up with a shell prompt at the root of a linux filesystem!
i ran 2 or 3 muscle-memory commands and closed the prompt, i was in docker stuff up to the neck.
later on, when i go back to my project, in a virtual machine its sluggish af and screams at me that amd-v is not supported because of something something nested pages (will look up later how that one works).
dont have time to explore it some more yet, and especially experiment or even barely look at this glorious mess because i have something barely working and no time to have it fail.
but this story definitely left me perplexed.
and also : you can run WSL2 on an fx83508 -
so the new QA guy just raised 8 new tickets all of which are UI related
full stop is missing
buttons are slightly misaligned
need to add a space in between
etc
all these things can be fixed over a 5 minute call, but noooo he took screenshots, created report, created 8 separate jira tickets with the steps to reproduce and attached screenshots and sent the testing report to all the managers
is this normal in big companies? i feel like it's grossly inefficient and unnecessary
I work in a 20 person startup, the previous qa guy used to call me up directly and explains the issues, he only creates tickets for the things which couldn't be fixed in an hour, I usually fix most those things in under an hour and he provides sign off9 -
Few months ago we move into a new Building, Company buys new Polycoms for 2 of the boardrooms - fancy ones with the Skype for Business and stuff.
Provision the boardroom accounts get them set up and all is working well.
Director asks if we can swap 2 boardroom phones around because their dept. just got a remote user and video calling would be awesome.
I set to work changing sign in details, provisioning accounts, assigning licenses, etc which is a long process because 365 needs to update throughout.
Finally get everything right, time to login... Failed...
Login fails on the Polycom, my laptop & an android tab - all 3 with different errors.
Decide to test account by logging into the web version in OWA - logs in perfectly.
Why Microsoft?? Why must you make it so hard? Why not just work?2 -
While Indian govt. talks about digitizing the country and is pushing ahead with it, their Employee's Provident Fund Org (EPFO) infra is absolutely shit and it's killing small time business that want to help their employees.
You need to add Digital Certs to do just about anything (great security wise) BUT,
The digital sign interface is written in Java Flash, that was dropped by all modern browsers 4 years ago.
The only stable working latest browser for it is Firefox 52 released 3 years ago.
The USB tokens used/supported are all Chinese that don't respect OSS drivers and fork built their own (read Watchdata) with no/shitty and cumbersome linux support (couldn't get it working after 2 nights of trying different versions of drivers).
You still have to run Windows to sign the docs or to interact with EPFO using legacy browsers from 2016
Non Tech problems: EPFO charges 500 Rs/month minimum admin charges, and I pay 1200 Rs PF for my driver. That kind of commission is plain stupid and will make small employers run away from paying PF for their employees.
Any interaction with EPFO is like having to eat thorns. painful, unnecessary bullshit. How useless can someone be building such a system released in 2019?
I just hope they fix it. A simple google search shows there is Web Crypto API for modern browsers. Someone wake these people up. SMH2 -
Has anyone seen Aquro? Apparently you can sign up for free if you use reddit.

So my friends USB drive suddenly doesn't work. It shows up in Windows' device manager (with no exclamation sign) but not in My Computer or even Disk Management (So I can't partition it) Reinstalling drivers doesn't work either. When trying to mount it in Linux, Linux complains that it can't see the drive. fsck and gparted don't read it either, but it shows up in lsblk. Dmesg complains it can't read the partition table (error -110). Any of you guys have bright ideas? Nothing like this has shown up in SO before so I've asked in both here and SO. Any ideas?12

Manager wants to sign me up for sponsored Apigee training and certification and i wasn't sure if it's good or bad (even now)
Me: ohh, nice
Manager: let me know asap. I'll get back to you.
*Manager comes back after 2 mins*
Manager: have you decided?
Me: uhm, yeah i haven't finished looking. I'll get back to you in 30mins
*Manager comes back after an hour*
Me: does this have a bond?
Manager: no
Me: okay, I'll get back to you tom
Poll question: is it a go or no go?1 -
So I'm a fullstack Python Dev & I wanted to learn Django Rest Framework so I can ease into making PWA. I figured let me learn it as I build out an MVP for a web app I'm creating...WRONG! This shit is mega annoying! It's taken much much more time than i'd like just to set up User sign up and sign in using a form based on the serializers. I started this project Friday....I still have no forms 😭😭...If i just had used Regular Django Models/Forms, an Ajax call here and there i wouldve been done!! What makes it worse is I feel I'm legit the only person having these issues...sheesh4

Im getting stalked so much by recruiters right now! Im ignoring a call every 10 minutes and writing back on mail/linkedin ever 15. Fuck offff! Please!
Im collecting all names, mails and numbers and maybe i’ll just fucking mass mail them all haha. And after that sign them up for freaking midgetporn muahahaha -
When the company running my student accommodation not only stores the passwords for their resident portal in plain text and emails them straight to you in the case of a forgotten password. But also generates your password at sign up according to a specific general pattern...2

Is there anything worse than Peoplesoft? I'm trying to sign up for a new job and everything is slow, timing out, or poorly designed. I've been at this for 4 hours now and I'm not even halfway done!!3

I did know some people would negatively takes my honesty.
To be honest. I don't really like compliments. There's nothing in myself. I never expect any compliment. I'm hideous in fact. That's why I join devRant.
I feel comfortable when no one in sight.
But you know sometime, I feel that I want to tell what I feel. To anyone that don't know me in person (in regards to avoid getting messed up).
Is this a sign of mental disorder ?3 -
How would you approach choosing a fairly short but meaningful domain name? Common words are obviously going to be taken.
I have a handful of domain names used for different things, but my main one is 17 characters long and made up of 2 words and not particularly interesting (my surname + another word). It's relatively easy to read out to people over the phone, but inputting it in a phone handset or on a device without a keyboard (e.g. setting the hostname + domain of a media centre with a remote control) is a bit tiresome.
Doesn't even have to be something I can say easily as I mainly want it just for "infrastructure" purposes rather than to host a website etc.
I'd probably use it for sign-up e-mails to reduce the amount of spam/newsletter mail (I do generate a separate address for signing up to most services) but other than that wouldn't be using it regularly for e-mail.
But I don't want something meaningless like abcxyz.1 -
I have a weird problem ...
There’s an existing swift app, with Apple sign in implemented and working.
When I took over I had to revoke app certificates and create new one. Since then the Apple sign in stopped working.
I’ve tried clean rebuild etc , even tried renewing old profiles with the new cert but nothing is working.
When u do Apple sign in it says “sign up not completed” with no error msg.
Old dev says it happened last time when cert/profile was changed but fixed on proper rebuild. Not fixing for me.
Anybody else faced this?5 -
Holy fucking shit bois. This is gonna be a long one.
So, its my last studying year for me. I found a nice apprenticeship in a dev company for which i'll have to make apps and stuff, so, I'll work at the company and at school.
Now it's good innit? Well here's the catch. I have to sign a contract for this. And the CUNT who is filling this shit is retarded enough to fuck up.
This bitch, a 40 yo accountant, surely filled many goddamn contracts before mine, but nooo, this wanker fucked this, the contract was missing important infos and some of them were incorrect, in short, it's not valid, 0/10, will never sign this.
Now here's the fun part, this cunt asked me for my infos, i gave them to him so that he could fill the document : he misinterpreted them, filling the paper with junk.
Today, I heard that he is unhappy of my behaviour towards him, and that I shouldn't insult his work with these accusations, saying that if I gave them more info (for which they didn't ask), there would be no problems.
He then called me, while I was in class, he acted smugly, said I was unclear and that I should gather more info for them, in other terms, "lmao do this yourself cunt"
"Fuck you, you cumstain, if you would've asked me, I would've been able to give you these infos right away, but you didn't, it's your fault for this, you're breaking mah balls yadda yadda"
(Roughly what I said, especially the insults)
I'm now forced to fill the contract myself because this bitch isn't able to google shit for 5 minutes to find everything he needed.
I have had so many problems with people of his kind, that I can't stand them now. Are they like animals? Do they feel my hate for them?
Sorry for dat long post, but fuck this, if the contract isn't filled, signed, and validated before the end of the month, I'm fucked, since i won't be able to sign up for the school.
Does anyone have had any problems like this? Like, a very egocentric cunt that isn't able to do something good because he is too proud to ask, so he prefers doing things his own way?1 -
The worst thing about coding a messenger chatbot is that I had to sign up for an account and give them my phone number to complete the process.2

Published on BBC, GCHQ have set the challenge below. Would make a fun simple coding challenge. My thought is to brute-force, is there a more efficient way to solve it?
"Take the digits 1,2,3 up to 9 in numerical order and put either a plus sign or a minus sign or neither between the digits to make a sum that adds up to 100. For example, one way of achieving this is: 1 + 2 + 34 - 5 + 67 - 8 + 9 = 100, which uses six plusses and minuses. What is the fewest number of plusses and minuses you need to do this?"
Edit: disclosure: I believe the challenge has passed already and I'm too lazy to enter anyway so don't worry about me or anyone stealing ideas!2 -
Gotta love when you come across an interesting piece of software with a modern, sleek, and snazzy homepage. Then you press "Sign up" and are redirected to an ancient 90's web app whose first element after the body is a table.

In my growing list of things I hate about Android (and Google), I just accidentally created an account with Realtor.com because I was trying to dismiss the new 'sign in with Google Account' that now pops up in the non-browser browser automatically.
This wonderful new "feature" cannot be turned off because it's not a browser.. it's just the, fucking... search-results chrome webkit instance? I don't even..
Google is making SUCH. SHIT. THESE. DAYS.1 -

Heya guys
Looking to get some extra cash so I'd like to strike out on my own a bit as well.. But struggling to get going... Don't really have a network orso to get opportunities...
I've seen sites like upwork promising great results, and I'm about to sign up for them now, to see how it goes...
But my question is, any of you guys have some tips and tricks for me?3 -
So you wanna sign up to our useless newsletter? You really do? Alright just fill out , and . Thanks for taking your time!
Why are some devs just so fucking lazy :|1 -
So I want to make an app...
You sign up with an email and phone number which is connected to a firebase or something idk yet
You add all your friends/family through email or phone number
When you need to, if you go to one of your friends, it will send notifications to your friends phone and will force it to make a sound on full volume, even if it’s on silent. Sort of like a find my iPhone for friends, or when you need them in a n emergency and you think they’re sleeping.
Of course they’ll be options to turn it off/block incoming notifications.
How would I go about doing like the whole connecting to the other phone part?5 -
hi guys, i need your opinions on my life's issue,
i'm a full-stack web developer from Iran, studying master's degree of software engineering here and my goal is to get application for one of europe's universities. this is a three years goal. during this 3 years i have to study hard, do some journal papers, do programming, get IELTS degree, then sign up for application.
all this hardworks is for getting rid of my country, for bad economical problems, and having a better life at the end, start my own company, live my life to the fullest, grow my family and ... .
what's your advices? critics? ideas?3 -
Is it better for login page button and text and links when you're about to login to say Login or Sign In?
Same for registration. Register or Sign Up?
Its the same shit different label. Im afraid people are too dumb to understand Sign In = Login and Sign Up = Register.
Some sites use Login some use Sign In.
Thoughts?
Cast ur votes and explain why
✅ Login / Register
✅ Sign In / Sign Up17 -

So, after a week seminar at my university on "practical introduction to operating systems" and bash scripts all we did till now is 'echo' and 'mv'.... why did I sign Up for this....2 -
While I was having a pre-lunch toke and just finished reading an article (about sharing screenshots) and this neat sign up form expanded from the footer.

if your online preview is an svg without watermark, why should i sign up for a paid account to get vector files?5

I own my phone number over two years and still can’t sign up in Venmo, I really feel their app have problems: No different use email or phone number sign up! After I wrote a letter for them, they asked me three months of my phone number status, so number verify mean nothing on your app? Did everyone need three months status to prove phone number? !
I just feel such a popular app but the product design sucks!1 -
So currently we are moving from studying on Zoom to some platform called K12Online (not to be confused with K12 because this one is Vietnamese with K12 thing is not). And it doesn't have a fking sign up button. Not on their website nor in the app. There's only the Sign In button, and even that, if you think about creating a new user through the Sign In button like some platforms do, well, you are wrong! It also doesn't work as well!
Nice job, team! -
Went to scan a file with the built in Win 10 scanner. It came up and said the file was excluded from scan. So it gave me a link to the exclusion directories of the virus scanner. I looked and it had the entire C drive as the last exclusion. I did not do this. I have specific directories on exclusion, but not the entire drive.
I got rid of this exclusion and scanned the entire drive. I didn't get any virus or worm hits.
Is this a sign of an infection?
It would have had to be changed with something that asked for permission to make administrative changes like an install. I honestly don't know what I would have installed that I gave permission to do this lately.
Is there a way to accidentally right click somehow to add a directory to the exclusion list?3 -

I'm dreaming of a web language that is as close to the English language as possible.
Imagine:
<html>
nav bar with 5 links
slider with 3 images that runs automatically
Section with 3 images next to each other
Paragraph with first word in red
Footer with menu and sign up form
</html>
This would be the shit!6 -
sort of an update on my midterm project read my last rant to catch up.
Progress so far has been absolutely phenomenal I have a sign up and login page, a profile page, home page, and can post to the app now in real time. for my first time using Kotlin I'm insanely surprised at what I've accomplished so far.1 -
I did an engineering quiz yesterday as a way of introducing a new database the school recently got access to. You had to sign up for the site.
- Passwords were max 20 characters (which is better than 10, but still, why???)
- You couldn't use special characters, but there was NO INDICATION ANYWHERE THAT THAT WAS THE CASE. It would just silently fail to log in. I had to open the browser console to figure out what wasn't working. FUCK -
Finally after 3 fucking months, 15-20 fucking meetings, I got sign off for a feature release. The development took 3 weeks and was completed in March end.
I know being a financial institution and feature was regarding system handling funds, business guys need to worry a bit as any mistake in code can mess up the funds disbursal. But fuckers took 3 months to give sign off.
However, it's finally released and I can relax for now. #peace -
#WitchHunt: one of us is making websites that allow you to signup/login with Facebook, but still requires the user to enter a password to sign up! That's not SSO people!
-
Just please make the rule, if you don't have a cookie, don't show the pop up asking you to register for shit. If I haven't been to your site before, I DON'T WANT TO SIGN UP TO ANYTHING BADGER TURD!! Are there people that actually do that? If so, they deserve a whole evening talking to a project manager about their next great idea. Or, being flayed with a potato peeler. Which ever is worse.1

Dreamhost sucks. For a DECADE now people have posted the same issue on their community forum about how they cannot cannot send email from their iOS devices using the exact settings Dreamhost requires. Or they were able to intermittently but with no settings changes to explain why it stops working randomly. Yet Dreamhost continues to insist nothing is wrong on their end.
So I go to try and sign up to publish my own problem post. It says to check my email for an activation link. Nothing ever comes, not even to desktop Outlook even when it does work for other emails. -
Local company has an API service that I'm interested in playing with. Most services would just have you sign up or just read the open api docs. But not this one. Wants me to jump through hoops because its part of their "KYC" policy. I just want to test something before I think of using it for real and they can't provide any test accounts/environment for that. Oh well, at least, I can document my rough experience and perhaps guide others to do and use (or not use) it.

Why do fuck do I have to sign up for Google before accessing a document... Can't they provide a guest user solution. Why must I be on their platform before accessing a document?3
-
Why is it that search engines behave differently when you're using a mobile device versus a computer? I get far better results using a computer. On the mobile device the meta characters don't seem to work very well. For instance, I will use a minus sign to exclude a word or phrase and a whole lot of the results come back with that word or phrase in them. All you're doing is sending a string up to the cloud where the lookup occurs. What's the difference between sending a string from a mobile device or a computer?

I just realized being alive in this life is actually a punishment. Who enjoys this life if they are not rich? Wtf.

WTF?
W_T_F?
W-T-F?
W$T$F?
how the fuck do you brand codebases?
say you've got a brand called dicks,
and you've got a website, api server, some SDK's, and whatever else. How do you format the codebase names so it's A, usable as a variable name, B clickable at the variable part of the name, C, that's fucking it
dicks-website can't be used in js because
dicks-website = require('dicks-website') won't work
dicks_website can't be used in url's and in general because double clicking any part will select the whole word, so you can't replace dicks_X easily.
dicks$api seems to work, dicks and api are seperately clickable, and usable as a variable in javascript. I already know that the $ sign probably fucks up many many systems so that's probably a no go
has this question been addressed already?4 -
Fucking taiga wasting my day.
Client asked to set up a private taiga (taiga.io, some open source Jira alternative).
All goes fine and dandy until you need to link domain user creation to taiga user creation.
Seems I have to choose between having public registration (allows to programmatically create users, but also randoms to sign up) or use their private registry API that asks for a fucking token that is supposed to be returned from their membership/invitation API, that, guess what, doesn't return any bloody token. You can only get the token on the Django admin control panel.
Guess I'll have to end setting up LDAP or integrating with their existing gitlab, but this gig is already starting to smell, and we are close to the weekend 😡1 -
Does anyone know other cheap text messages (SMS) providers such as https://www.smsapi.com?
Quantity approx. 200-1000 messages per day, hard to estimate. Main use is sign up and two-way authentication.

Figured I'd share this in case anyones interested.
For those that are interested in investing the old fashion way (not getting rich quick off of crypto) Acorns is the first investing app I ever got into, used it for almost 3 years noe. Rounds up your change on digital purchases and invests it for you. Nice UI, makes it easy.
I'll drop an invite code down below if anyone is into investing since who doesn't like a free 5 bucks for using a specific link to sign up for something they're interested in? Just wish it wasn't US only.

Hi fellow devRanters, I need some advice on how to detect web traffic coming from bad/malicious bots and block them.
I have ELK (Elastic) stack set up to capture the logs from the sites, I have already blocked the ones that are obviously bad (bad user-agent, IP addresses known for spamming etc). I know you can tell by looking at how fast/frequently they crawl the site but how would I know if I block the one that's causing the malicious and non-human traffic? I am not sure if I should block access from other countries because I think the bots are from local.
I am lost, I don't know what else I can do - I can't use rate limiting on the sites and I can't sign up for a paid service cause management wants everything with the price of peanuts.
Rant:
Someone asked why I can't just read through the logs (from several mid-large scale websites) and pick out the baddies.
*facepalm* Here's the gigabytes log files.9 -
seriously why the hell is Slack so fucking stupid! When I click to sign in to the desktop client it opens up a signup page in my browser, but I was just signed in a minuted ago in the fucking workspace!!7

Having a dilemma... I need help with my gaming projects. I know a guy who I could train since he has lots of potential but Im having trust issues. Its because I invested around 10k into my codebase and Im afraid to give access to that guy since I suspect that he might use files and some day run away to make his own project. So im back to square 1 again which is loosing my mind with this huge workload. What should I do? Should I just say fuck it ant make him sign some air tight NDA agreement? Even then he could stand up and leave 2 months in and open a competitor project if he doesnt like my management style...3
-
So our teacher is telling us to join some kind of competition thing that the government creates, and uhh, when I went to the website, sign up with a separate account that I will probably never use once again in my whole life, and then I notice that when you click to the TOS link in the "I agree with the TOS", it does... nothing, yes, it doesn't lead you to an actual TOS page or anything, it just teleports you up, what?????, did you just create a fking TOS link and it doesn't actually lead to anywhere else? Then why do it anyway? Also, you can literally find a TOS template with some English keyword and then plastered it on some obscure page and then use the TOS link to lead to that one instead of blatantly do nothing. Also, I noticed that they use a authentication service called Eids Authentication. Who the fk is this guy? Why don't you just use something already popular like Auth0? They have way better UI/UX than whatever that is and supports way more platform logins like Google and Faxbook which are more familiar to us.

It is always a problem when it comes to user username on app. Do you give a permission to set later? or at the first time they sign up? do they allowed to post without username?

Most companies/managers never give you your KRA because they want to keep changing your responsibilities.
They will then make you answerable for the responsibilities which you didn't sign up for, but were forcefully given1
