"By larger do you mean bigger?"
I was honestly just asked this in an email from a client.
The funniest thing is I didn't even say "larger", I said "bigger".8 -

Today we moved to a new office in the next building.

I'm a little sad about our loss, but really glad for him and for all the things I just learned.4 -
Best: I'm still employed.
Worst: I'm still working on a PHP codebase, which only got bigger (34M lines) and more entangled this year.12 -
After my college I was about to start freelancing.
I met a client and had a chat with him about requirements and all.
He was really nice guy. Then he asked me "What will be the size of the website?? A4 or Bigger??.

It's very funny to login to your vps from your phone and install a firewall instead of doing it from a bigger screen!
Also the time just went scarily fast while doing that O_o43 -
Well, it happened!
After decades of waiting, it finally happened...
Very early on in my career, I was told that one day, one of your client will ask you to make the logo bigger.
Well, today was that day.
My client didn’t really understand just how much of a negative impact it would have on his site’s navigation by making his always obnoxiously larger ugly icon an additional 10% bigger.
He also failed to understand aspect ratio and forced me to stretch his low/res raster image without scaling it in all 2 dimensions.
He actually used the line from the infamous song “...I don’t want to tel you how to do your job by can you make the logo bigger?”
https://youtube.com/watch/...3 -

So I just created this Registration GUI (part of a bigger app) for my uni project and was demonstrating how good the app was to all my friends.

There is absolutely no reason, what so ever, that you should ever own a fucking Wi-Fi enabled washer and dryer!

I'm learning web development, and this is another small project that I made - a basic code player.

PPS - Will post the previous small project I'd done. It was a browser based basic game.17 -
Here's a life hack for you.
If you're ever in need of a whiteboard for drawing/sketching, grab a few white a4 paper sheets, a roll of transparent duct tape, tape both sheets together side-by-side. Cover both sheets with tape

The more sheets you involve, the bigger the whiteboard will be :)
P.S. It's very handy!!12 -

Me : I need 2 undivided weeks in the next 3 months to make some refactoring to our codebase, so we dont have issues in scaling.
Senior Manager (with years of tech experience almost equal to my age) :
Why would we need that, We are already hosted on AWS so we can just spin up more instances.
Me ( trying to hold the rage inside) : No it doesnt work that way, that will only hurt us more than help.
Him : What if we try with a bigger instance size. Its AWS, sure they will have a bigger instance.
Me : No, tha....
Him : (cuts me off) How about we use autoscaling and let AWS decide
Me : (Silently praying for a gun that shots across video calls.)8 -

I think I know now where "Pet project" got its name from: 1) Most of us would rather play with it all day instead of going to work. 2) As it grow bigger, eventually you'll have to shed out a couple bucks for it, and.. 3) Your PM would be FURIOUS if he caught you playing with it at the office.1

K pop is garbage and yet somehow their fans are a bigger cancer than that sad excuse of music.30 -
So today I spent the whole day at work in a website to make it go full responsive. When I finished, the PM told me "Forget about these and those screen sizes, make everything over 1024px a desktop view". There are tablets with screen bigger than just 1024px... Anyway, I got a little mad because I spent the WHOLE day working with those tablets that are bigger than 1024 just to get a " Forget about these and those".
Fine, I'm fine now... I needed to tell this to someone, I know you will understand my pain, guys :)2 -

Just signed my work papers, managed to get a front-end developer position after looking for a while! Moved to a much bigger city too6

I don't know which is worse:
1. My project manager telling me that I will have to make a whole project on my own within a month (frontend, backend, etc etc) for our major client and if I make it, we will get a bigger project for a longer period or
2. The colleague next to me being loud (speaking to himself, chewing things) at random intervals.2 -

About starting your career at a medium-bigger company that's well-established, versus starting at a smaller company.
That's my point of view:
It's always wiser to begin at a company that's more established (you will also be sure that you will get paid on time). I started at a well-established company, and I managed to buy gear, travel, do stuff, and then I realised that I wanna do more, not only live to work 😎.
Smaller companies are kinda risky, think of it, their goal is to reach the level of a well-established company, which is some levels lower than that. On the other hand, if you do well at a smaller company, your next goal will be to work for a bigger company, which will surely be nicer, more professional and will pay better. So you will have managed to et there with all the skills in your pocket already, which will come in handy later!
Bigger companies are excellent if you have a family (wife and kids), they provide stability, that's the most important thing, but I believe that in order to get "settled" in a company like that, you should at least have tried something else first, like doing your own thing or get challenged in more complicated gigs that require you to up your skills.
In the end, it's all sun and fun, with you code editor by your side 😉. I'm interested to see your opinions.1 -

Daily stand-ups might seem like a joke when done remotely, but I believe they help unite the team, and they play a key role for project managers, even if they're brief. The bigger issue might be just some of the dev's attitude towards it, and the lack of communication through out the project development.4

Today I decided against installing a plugin for my text editor because the plugin required node to be installed. Node is bigger than my text editor.2

No Size for iPad (only mocks are mobile and desktop)
Ambiguous on Close Button (size and position)
#Development:
Me: iPad size, should it be X?
Product Owner: Yes

QA: Close button is to Small, change to bigger
ME: (ok....)
#Product Owner Review
Product Owner: Close button to big, make it smaller, also iPad size is not that, is Y.

The bigger the number of people smarter than me defines how much I like the company.
More is better.3 -
We're all working from home starting today.
My university is still active, bigger school events are being postponed though. -
On the Overwatch 2 official poster, Tracer's pussy is bigger than Ana's face. Ah, yes, targeting lonely male gamers with sex, how original.
Pathetic.5 -
Why would the developers of a library with +800 Github starts suddenly decide to change the interface and render my whole app useless? Some might say because this is software and it is always changing. Well, I think it is because they are a bunch of tools and I'm even a bigger tool for updating to their new version.1

Anyone with game development experience? I'm thinking of doing a game development side project soon. Not expecting the best results, but games like cuphead, hollow knight and salt & sanctuary inspire me (2D platformers).
Will PyGame or LibGDX suit me fine or should I use a bigger engine like Unity or Unreal?8 -
Scope creep and hidden requirements. Project seemed to get bigger every week. 4 months salary for 7~9 months of actual work.

I was working as freelancer while doing my bachelor degree and then got hired. I'll say that help bigger company to trust and pay you more. But nothing about skills.

Been working on this project for the last 9 months, it's 1000 times bigger than the original spec, but the worst part of the whole experience is the god damn Microsoft Access database and migrating data from it.
Wanky encoding, references that aren't actually linked up, ID's that aren't unique, meaningless columns and table names.
Pushed me to the edge. -
So as a student I often wonder how my future workplace will look like. So..
Show us your workspace! And not just the desk you sit by but the bigger picture. Personal office? Open landscape? Lonesome forgotten room in the basement of the building?
And which is the best? Close to the team to cooperate or fortress of solitude?2 -
I think it's safe to say I'm not a big (medium) fish in a small ponds.
But now thinking more and more it's it's worth the time that I've already interested plus another unknown amount to try to become a little fish in a bigger pond... -
Now every boss and client wants RWD on their sites... it's a pity they don't even know what it means...
"Why do this heading change size? I want it bigger!"
"the photo was ok side by side with the text. Why does it move above on my iPad"
"i can't zoom!"5 -
Boss insists in using firemonkey to save time since the same app will work for PC, Android and iOS. They didn't even consider going native. so I coded a simple calc on firemonkey, half the calc functions that worked perfectly on the pc didn't work on Android, and the app took 25mb space while other apps way bigger I make with Android studio barely have 2mb lol2

I purchased a used 1U rack server last week, it got 8 small fans and is ALOT more silent than my other used 2U server.. I thought it would be the opposite, since the 2U got bigger and less fans.
First few days i had the 1U turned on in my bedroom while sleeping.
Is there a reason for this, or is it a coincidence?1 -
Getting back into job hunting and job interviews after 2 years of employment is like going back to dating after being married for 5 years.
It feels weird and I'm worried I might be too forward on the questions. But I like how easy to apply for jobs now. Easy one-click apply from my LinkedIn account. Not sure if I should apply for startups or not -
As a lawmaker, I would ban smartphones thinner than ten millimetres (10 mm) so manufacturers are forced into building physically stronger smartphones with bigger and faster-charging batteries without having a competitive disadvantage.

One week ago Google overhauled their "Now News". The news have unnecessary categories over the title, can't be swiped away anymore and some cards are way bigger than others.
At least now its proven that this kind of news is advertised shit and no more independant.
Ty Google! 😡 -
I really love Ubuntu Mono and similar fonts, because they're nice to look at while coding, so I tried to use it in Emacs.
Man, what it produced is just... disgusting! I couldn't see anything even in Ubuntu Mono "normal" version (not bold, not italic) with size 10 (my normal size).
In smaller size I almost couldn't recognize characters in code, in bigger it yelled at me I'm blind. Wtf emacs...6 -

Spent 2 days optimizing SQL queries, and then I learned a valuable lesson.
If your database size is bigger than the RAM of the machine it’s running on, every query will take 5+ seconds ☹️4 -
I just deleted two big partitions in the windows installer to make an even bigger one. Now I have two separate unallocated spaces. Nice.7

For starters - I like Windows 10. I seldom have any problems with it. But...
For fucking fuck sake how did this fucking happen. I tried to make a carbon copy of my small 128 SSD with Windows and Linux on it onto a bigger, 256 GB one using Partition Wizard. Something went so fucking wrong that Windows started showing me, for the first time in a looooooong time, BSODs. It wouldn't be so bad if after restoring Windows grub stopped functioning and now I can't access any OS on this drive. And all I wanted was to migrate to bigger disk...2 -

You know your private project gets bigger than expected, when you ditch any local stores with already created logic and head over to SQL starting to design the database.
Guess this will be a longer journey than I anticipated...3 -

A: Do you know Big O?
B: Yea I know Big O. Who doesn't know Big O?
A: So what's the Big O of X?
B: It's ....
A: Oh what about Y?
B: Oh that has a bigger Big O.
A: Hm... how about this one?
B: That's a really big Big O. Why not use mine?
A: Ooh that looks impressive, very small. So which Big O should we use?
B: Well there's a constant trade off, even though small is good, in this case I think the bigger one works better.4 -
If you are a graduate/junior developer be very careful about joining a small Ltd company.
You would get better support in a bigger team and have better insight of the industry in a bigger organisation.2 -

They will keep it running

I made an infinite canvas whiteboard app specifically designed for quick notes with pen input but now I want to scale it to something bigger: a tool to allow children with DSA to take notes and study better using images, videos, gifs and sound directly into the canvas, right next to their notes.1

When you eventually get a 10yr old hardware to talk with the new pc104 stack!

Any swiss devs here?
What'd you say is a realistic annual salary in zurich at the moment for a senior backend (java) engineer with 10+ years of experience?
My online research shows somewhere between 110k-135k for bigger companies, is that realistic?8 -
it changes every couple of weeks, the universe keeps creating bigger and better idiots. but right now the last documentation was apache Mina sshd and jgit. I eventually figured out that git receive had to be threaded to work but that should have been in the docs

Arrify nodejs module. I always thought, that a modul is something bigger, not this function with 4 lines. Who thinks, that using a module to make an array of a value instead of copying a 4 line snippet to your code is actually a good idea?4

I was applying for an appartement. Only way to do that is by sending all required papers to a company
The company emailserver rejects emails bigger then 5mb.
I had to send 4 emails to send all required documents1 -
That time you where asked to start a vm that would over allocate the servers resources, said I don't think that a good idea and where told to just do it.
Well as expected the server slowed to a crawl then crashed. Guess I'll be getting a bigger server now2 -
All I want to do is build a robot. ROS is slow as crap on a raspi when you're trying to do SLAM. The chassis isn't big enough for a second raspi, and I can't print a bigger electronics tray until the end of my week off.
Also, Ubuntu just doesn't want to work right on my Surface. Emulation too slow.
So much for building cool things on vacation. -
Decided to act like the bigger guy and hand a website to a client who doesn't respect developers n designers. But, want to teach him a lesson sometime. Apart from a kill switch. Any ideas? Custom function or something? Hasn't even paid me yet.3

I've worked on countless products and maybe one bigger one (map portal for a national park) and one side job (randomized svg to g code) had any positive social impact. I've been paid for being useless but busy. The entire economy is a scam.1

From time to time, there is time to code with imperial Star Wars music. Every time you have to have the feeling of building something bigger !

Neovim and atom. I can't really pick one. Neovim is great for smaller config files and it's really fast. Also, I usually have terminal window open.
On the other hand, I like atom because of its looks and I prefer to use it for bigger projects. I also use it to edit js, html and css files. -
When software matures and becomes bigger it feels like even a small change takes a day to implement. How do you remain innovative with a large code base?1

Today my colleagues and I visited Startup300 one of the first business angles association for austrian startups. It was pretty awesome to hear some really inspiring presentations of experienced founders.
I am so excited that the idea of startups is getting bigger and bigger in austria these days! america showed us how to go, now europe has to follow! -
Wednesdays. The day we get every single dev in a meeting room, and get everyone to explain what the fuck they are working on and what sort of issues they are having. Regardless of whether you'll ever see that site or not. Can't think of a bigger fucking waste of time.... ....meetings for the sake of meetings.... PISS OFF!!1

For the past 4-5 years I was working with my friend or alone on multiple projects. What's your thought on multi-login systems?(your own or Facebook\Google\etc.)

So I'm doing angular 2 and I've started to notice that the time it takes to setup my website with al it's dependencies is becoming quite long. I know that longer load times are expected the bigger the site gets, but this is getting ridiculous.
Are there any general methods to reduce load times?1 -
Is that just impression or iPhone takes longer to get slowly (deals better with bigger apps in the long run) when compared to Android?
I'm considering going back to iOS world. Android seems to get slow after less than an year.4 -
Some days I just want to move to a bigger city, to get in touch with other kind of people, to get insights of my ideas, to hear about unsuccessful projects.

We decided to buy more powerful UPSes as we have had some issues with our old ones.
Well I guess the only thing I can say about the new UPSes is that they are definitely bigger...2 -
It’s frustrating when an issue is so much bigger than you can control and people in IT that should understand don’t get it.

- Never lie, if you get the job and they find out you lied on something you have a problem
- Never say "oh this company is too good it will never accept me with my grades", Usually bigger companies have an assessment center where you can show that you are good for this job
- If they ask you for weaknesses try to pick some that can also be seen as strengths -
What if IBM's AI is a way to gather data on a bigger scale. I see many big companies and governments relying on it rather than having their own local AI servers. What do you think? 🤔3

Assumption. Screens are wider and wider, bigger and bigger.
Solution 1: Make more one-page layout sites like there is no space on sides.
Solution 2 support solution 1: Make everything 2-3 times bigger so there can't be space on sides.
Solution 3 support solution 2: If there is some free space, call it neccessary white space.
It's a trend i see around me. Sometimes i don't get it. More than 1 year i have no side menu in designes what i coded. -
To most non-dev people, being hit with error after error when fixing one small problem out of a much bigger collection of problems would probably be infuriating.
To me, it's a huge loop of:
for(var failsAtLine = 1; failsAtLine < lines.length; failsAtLine++;) {
changeSomething();
runTest();
readErrors();
cry();
comtemplateMeaningOfLife();
}
openChampagne();
Would help if deployer.org had better documentation and bigger support community. -
We had a 65y old teacher who was mathematic, she didnt even know how to ctrl f, or to make the font of code bigger. Context: 1y software engineering bachelors degree.

Meat is good. Charred meat though… the smell of it makes my teeth subjectively bigger, to the point where they don't fit in my mouth. Psychosomatic illusion, yes, but saliva is dripping.2

I started my brand new job last monday. Very nice people so far but tbh im already hesitating if this business isnt too backend minded for a frontender like myself. I do have a lotttt to learn the coming weeks. Lets see how i hold up my small share of this bigger company with it’s daunting piece of software.3

I'm curious how many of you r dating a dev and does it make a difference, like do you fight over used stack/framework, who will use the powerful pc, bigger screen ( what have you ) or just the regular normal mini fights in a relationship?5

Routers connect multiple networks and stuff together. The router at your house connects your devices to a bigger network.
1. Are these "routers" the same
2. Would my router carry packets intended for someone else, you know maybe just shuttling them across or something?
3. If so can I spy on them with my router potentially ?9 -

good evening devs,
any suggestions/tips, on how to learn more efficiently, more effectively, more structured?
Recently, after school/work, my discipline to learn is lost a bit..
Because, watching tutorials or reading, while programming the shown, isn't the right thing for me.
I need definitely much more practice , to keep shit in my brain.
Maybe i need ideas? small projects and then make it bigger and bigger?
How do you learn?
Whats your way to practice?1 -

So any advice about doing the whole workshop thing and about dealing with the students who are bigger then me?1 -
i dug up the undocmented fdisk thing and here it is https://youtu.be/th8wOjigxwU
on DOS 6.22 it just partitions it immediately, on Win98 it updates drive letters and immediately formats it as FAT32 if a partition is defined as being bigger than 2GB
syntax is as follows
FDISK <physical drive number, 0 being unused> /pri:<primary partition size> /ext:<extended partition size> /log:<logical partition size> -
Been working on some meta code.

TrumpScript is one funny programming language that was formulated by four Rice University undergraduates. TrumpScript allows developers to operate with numbers that are bigger than one million.
