I want to stop charging my e-scooter at around 85% because this will increase the battery life. To avoid always having to pull the plug at the right level, I made a stop circuit that goes between charging brick and e-scooter.
There's no processor involved, just a CMOS 555 used as inverting Schmitt Trigger which controls a power mosfet. Also two status LEDs and a start switch. The poti adjusts the cut-off level. Worked on first try, with only manual voltage and tolerance calculations beforehand!

I live in the terminal. I write lots of scripts (Shell, Python, node js) to automate tasks that would take hours to do by my teammates. Recently, I started automating everything that I put my hands on using Ansile: from pointing DNS server to continuons deployment, provisionning a fully customized infrastructure on the cloud using just a single command!
This is because automation gives you super power, the feeling that what you do help tl increase the productivity, reduce bugs etc.. Simply, once mastered, automation is ausome!12 -

Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. This is weird to me - the job is for a small firm (20 employees), and my current is huge (~25-30k). Now I can work from home when I need it, and flexible hours (aka, get in whenever I feel like it). New job had in contract "No remote working" and "Work hours are 0800-1600".

in reality, every bitcoin transaction you make is just a number in the blockchain, just like any other coin. but unlike other coins, bitcoin is #1, has hype in the media, etc.
bitcoin is essentially the name brand of coins. when people think crypocurrency no other name comes to mind.
ethureum, litecoin, dogecoin? nope. nada. null. nil. None. the rate at which bitcoin will increase will become even more astounding. people can now profit of it more and more mining will happen because more people want to buy.
unfortunately I didn't buy it and 5¢, nor $4000, but I don't think we'll see another >$3000 drop for a while.
as the enthusiasm around it decreases, the price will increase at a slower rate, but nevertheless, growing.
my recommendation: buy now. and even if it does go down $2000 after you buy it, it'll probably come back up. so when it's work $110,000 in 2020, I don't think the $2000 will mean as much.

I've been working on a web accelerator proxy for two days now, I got the backend done and extension is in the works.
The extension basically intercepts all static content and sends it to the proxy, which will happily rewrite these requests to their proxied counterparts. I tested it and it has a average 1-2s speed increase on a image request and 10s increase in large javascript bundles.

PSA: The smaller the compute shader workgroups the more efficient they are, down to the wave size (32 on nvidia). Not exactly sure why, but looks like if you don't need group shared memory always have your workgroups be wave sized

I'm now not only a full stack developer in the charge of my own Linux servers, Devops work, programming,and the MySQL DBA, but have been asked to take on the "small" responsibilities of our only Linux administrator (retiring). No mention of title change (which is lesser than all my work), nor salary increase. A person can only do so much. Webhost (that I basically only use for email) decided to get rid of all plans they had in favour of 1 big "unlimited" (with FUP ofc) plan...
I used to pay about 3,65 a year (incl. VAT) for my plan (which had about 1250MB of storage) which was totally fine...
Good enough storage for mails.
The new plan costs me 55 euro a year (incl. VAT) and has that "unlimited" storage...
Which I don't need for a fucking mail server...
And they don't allow me to go back to my old plan >.>

I found a budget salary for dev with 4-5 YOE in 2011 in my company, digging through internal old docs.
Assuming 2% increase per year, the 2023 budget salary is now EUR 15k more than what average dev get in my company.
I remember that someone mentioned similar thing in other socmed where he found through internal docs, salary for his position 10 years ago and now are the same, totally neglecting inflation.
On the other hand house/property values has doubled within 10 years.
How can we pressure companies to give us appropriate salary?

This is the first company I've been at without annual performance reviews. Employees are supposed to go to their manager when they feel they deserve a pay increase and start and undocumented process of writing up their contributions for the year. No standard cost of living increases.7

So, in opengl 4.x, there are no primitives for circle, and the only ways to draw an almost perfect circle are following
Draw a triangle fan and fk up your memory for a circle
Draw a rectangle and use the fragment shader and distance equation to discard the bit that is not used
But you will need to add an if statement and potentially increase the frame time (from what i have heard)
And it will be more complicated than just using a triangle fan14 -

I'm moving some frontend views to a new layout. It involves lifting some state to increase performance (not load the same data 10 times). All fine and dandy - until I reach my colleagues code. Sure, they've not done a lot of frontend, but they don't ask for help either. So let me tell you - their code is crap. Really crappy. Better of, it's a bit more of a complicated component because it relies on some external constraints from another company, and that combined with the shitty code results in me having to rewrite the whole damn thing. I am working on a face recognition solution to identify and tag different faces in real time and currently using chinese whispers algorithm for clustring. The more I think about it the more inadequate it sounds (number of faces encoded increase over time thus the complexity). I've heard about YOLO but cant really decide. Please enlighten me!7 -
Project was based on Ionic3 with angular and SCSS.
Ionic has an SCSS array with colours that generates countless CSS classes for each combination of color-component.
Smh I managed to reduce the amount of colours in that array and reduced the overall size of the final CSS by 48% (from ~8MB to 4.1MB)
Of course the overall app had no performance increase BC the problem is the main.js file which is about 12MB with no lazy load3 -
I'm having a dilemma.
I currently hold a position as a Data Collector for one of the biggest tech companies around.
I have picked up a bit of programming by myself over the course of a year, hoping that I would have an opportunity to prove myself in said company for a more permanent position.
Thing is, I don't think they'll be able to take me seriously enough for a more technical position as long as I don't have a degree, which I don't.
So, I was thinking of pursuing a BSc in Computer Sciences, to increase knowledge and at the same time, increase my career prospects.
However, this means that I would have to leave the company, effectively giving up any footholds I have made there already.

Got a phishing email with a link to a website hosted by wix. The only thing on the site was a form and submit button so I’m sure it’s for collecting credentials. I was able to report them and wix shut it down which was nice. But I was thinking, if someone were to ddos the web server, what action would wix do? Would they let the requests keep coming and increase the customers bill? Or would they just shut down the server?2

Ok, so you can add another CPU for more redundancy and security. Safety PLC's do that. But the one which takes the cake is definitely Pilz. The ended up using three of the same CPU in one controller. Does that at that point really increase failsafe performance or is it just overengineering for getting a certification?6

The move by Amazon to increase prices of Prime seems to me to be a negative move.
Now I’m not saying the increase hurts me financially or anything but it forces people to make a decision where there wasn’t one before.
With a few seconds of though it is easy to see that what we are paying for is their Amazon Prime Video, because there is no change or update to the Prime delivery services.

Fuck ticketing systems man.. jumped from a good job that i previously thought was going to be a deadend and jobhopped to a new one with a significant salary increase. Problem is that The stress levels increased 5x, and there’s significant rush to complete tasks that have sub optimal descriptions to put it nicely. So I'm working on this codebase that has about 50k lines of code and I built a feature in it today. Spent 3hours on the feature + writing tests. Then I raised a pull request and that bastard codeclimate calculated the test coverage had dropped by 0.3%.

Well, My firm has a CRM which is built on JSP and Java. They want to upgrade the frontend by using a modern technology. Which one is a great choice React or Angular?
For the backend, APIs need to be integrated and I need to select from PHP and NodeJS. The traffic right now is 100 hits/second and is expected to increase upto 1k/sec in 6months.
What is the best choice for the frontend, backend and I need to select a HTTP request client too.22 -
Today was fun, i set up a dedicated minecraft server on my old laptop, to increase fps when I play on my shitty phone now it runs real smooth. The server is running on a proxmox vm - ubuntu server.
I wish I knew that fps would be this high , i would have done this wayy earlier, am loving it8 -

The usability of perfmon on windows sucks! There is just no way for me to increase the size of the lower section of the main window where all my counters are listed. This is fine if I'm monitoring only 4-5 counters, but, that is never the case. Hoping that microsoft does something about this.

Just been reading a comparison between .net core 2 and .net 4.7 it appears .net core 2 is being highly optimised giving a huge increase in performance compared to .net 4.7

Worst dev tech, it has to be MS Word. Apparently they follow the OOXML guidelines to create a Word doc but they have to put in their own shit-flavored ingredients to increase a developer's misery. Parsing that document is pure agony.

Got offered a new job with a 50% pay increase after 3 interviews, which only one of them was more technical, and it didn't involve any leet code or anything.
My friends coworker tried applying and failed
multiple times previously, so I'm feeling wayyy under qualified because my OOP knowledge sucks, I'm a self taught developer. They asked me more about engineering web solutions - how I would handle a lot of traffic , how I've designed a system where it holds a lot of requests, what do I know about databases, what engines I used and why. I'm very scared to accept, and I like my current company. What do?7 -
I think for this one i had higher expectations which let to me being disappointed. Was a fun experience nonetheless.
So i am junior dev in a bigish company and i am pretty comfortable where i am, its challenging enough and fun enough. Pay is fine nothing out of ordinary but perks are nice.
But this job is the one i got out of college and it did feel that i got really lucky as i was preparing for leetcode and what not but the interviewer was pretty linient and asked me technical questions out of my cv. The questions were mostly about what i used and all felt quite easy and i was offered a role with a decent salary. Since then i have been working and learning and thing been pretty stable.
Recently i was hinted at a promotion by my manager so i have been working towards that. I have in the past got a lot of messages on LinkedIn from different recruiters but never tried because i was satisfied with my job and my visa condition made it a little tricky to hope jobs ( i work in eu as a non eu citizen). But i did fantasize that if i could just get an interview with a decent company and clear the technical round without much preparing and get offered a decent package just to inflate my ego and maybe use that to increase my current package.
So i got another message on LinkedIn and a startup was looking for a developer and i gave it a go. I asked the recruiter what is the expected compensation and he instead asked me. I said i want a big enough increase tk even consider leaving my comfortable spot, so i am looking for more than 35-40% increase If they can then i am willing to try. The recruiter said that their range is between 25-35 but can try 40 if the interviews goes well.
I went ahead with it and gave the interview, the first one was simple and the next one was supposed to be technical and was told its not leetcode but i will have to implement a feature into a project live on the video call. Which i did with some success, i was quite clumsy but i was able to do it with tests passing sl i guess that was fine.
I was really happy that i didnt prepare much and still passed a tech interview. I was recently told about the offer, its around 40% more than my current but there are no yearly bonus or even health insurance. If i consider the bonus and health insurance then the offer becomes like 20% increase. Considering i am already expecting a promotion and some salary increase this offer seems really lack luster.
Just wanted to talk about all this, can you get a really big jump generally or is it only 15-25 ?1 -

I got called for a 1 on 1 with my manager. Nothing out of the ordinary, I thought. We have those from time to time. This time it was because I've been losing the trust of my team. I haven't been communicating with them very effectively and it's taken a toll on our working relationship.
We talk on slack when we run into issues, and we give a daily update at the end of the day and during stand up in the morning.
Anyone have any suggestions on ways I can increase the communication to help earn my teams trust back?9 -

In the first place I dont do it that often in private projects because the estimation is always wrong.
At work i just think about best and worst case scenario and the average time it could take. If the the worst case scenario is really time intensive and there are a lot of factors that could go wrong in contrast to the best case, I significantly increase the estimated time for the task. Otherwise its 1/6 best case; 1/6 worst case; 4/6 average time2 -
Website updates make me sick. Changing a color button, increase/decrease paddings won't make any differences. Why people are not focus on technical stuff like a 40 fields form instead ? Oh I know my boss is a web designer . Feeling alone as Web Developper.

Hello to everybody. You cannot imagine how blissful it feels to know that those who are reading this are sane. The rest of the world has gone mofo bat shite certified crazy. My question is I acquired a Samsung Desktop (it's a laptop) pc with the cam app 2020.127.20.0.
The cam app is horrible. There's no colour saturation and when I increase the brightness I look like a photocopy from and old machine.
The thing is I don't even find a chat link or phone number for the USA on their site. Does anybody have that info?
