That moment that you get your first paycheck and you realize that you earned it with doing what you love and learning loads!

Just watched Bourne. One of the first lines are: "Corrupt their database by using SQL". It's like saying: "Corrupt their text document with words". I love when they are "technical" in movies.11

When a girl joins your team as an Engineer and unleashes her badass coding skills, you look her up on the internet and notice she has 500k+ followers and is a former idol/singer. What do you do?42

WhatsApp confirmed that ads are coming to the status part of the app!
Fucking finally.
What? Do I like ads? Oh no, I quit WhatsApp when Facebook bought it.
I just know some people who'll leave (mostly for Signal, some for telegram or wire) it the second the ads show up for the first time and I'd love to see people leaving WhatsApp (especially in my country).
Hurry the fuck up with those ads, Facebook!43 -
Although I love developing I always thought that there was something missing.
I learned Java but didn't really like it. I had spent quite some time with web development and enjoyed it but I felt like developing with JavaScript was too high level and I felt the same for Python.
So I started learning the most awesome programming language: C
I just love that I have so much control over everything and that the language is so compact and gives you just the right amount of tools you need.
I also love physics and electronics a lot and it feels awesome to first build something and then program it.
I am looking forward to design a PCB (printed circuit board) and write code for an AVR microcontroller like the Atmega328 (most arduinos use this one).
Picture of the project I am working on.10 -
Yesterday: "This fucking logic makes no sense. I can't work this shit out!"
Today (first look at the problem): "Oh... I think if I do this and this... Yeap, that'd work"
I love fresh brain thoughts in the morning.8 -
It's my first day here and I LOVE this place. Everyone is so awesome and helpful and smart! Thanks for making me feel at home! <311

Employer: so why do you want to join this organization?
Engineer: well like i said in the first 4 interviews, I love desks. Sitting behind them. Standing behind them.
Employer: are you a standing or sitting man?
Engineer: i like to sit in the morning and then switch up to stand at lunch.
Employer: a man with a plan. Very good. Do you remember anything from school?
Engineer: not a goddamn thing.
Employer: perfect. You don't need math. Just emails. You like emails?
Engineer: love emails.
Employer: there's gonna be a lot of emails.
Engineer: can't get enough emails.
Employer: perfect. Do you like a clear separation between life and work?
Engineer: oh not at all. I like it to muddy together in a never ending hell.
Employer: alright and you're familiar with work culture?
Engineer: oh those hours i work for free?
Employer: yes.
Engineer: I love that bullshit.
Employer: alright terrific. And are you familiar with the hate hierarchy?
Engineer: yeah the tech's hate the engineers, the engineers hate the tech's and the managers hate everyb-
Employer: everybody. Perfect. Alright I- honestly I think we'd like to make an offer.
Engineer: well, first I gotta leverage that with my current employer for a raise. And if they don't budge, I'll jump shut.
Employer: no loyalty at all?
Engineer: not at all.
Employer: you're hired.4 -
No work is going to be tolerable if you don't enjoy it. If you got into programming or IT or any industry simply for the money you can earn doing it, you're in for a BAD TIME.
I love computers, linux, programming, configuration, automation, and problem solving. So I love what I do. I am currently three weeks into 13 weeks of parental leave, and I have been having dreams about work at night.
The best piece of advice I can offer to someone who has trouble getting motivated is: make sure to like it first.10 -
Non dev related but: release my first track 😊
I'd love to create something which is near musical perfection for myself 😃
There's a couple of tracks which come close for me but not 99 percent yet.36 -
Tonight I want to try to setup an openvpn server with mysql based authentication because I'd love to somehow setup/become a vpn provider.
Of course there's a huge ass legal part but let's first make sure I know the technology of the top of my head!
Just ranting this out because I'm excited 😊21 -
I've been working for this company for 2 years, tomorrow will be the first day that I meet my coworkers.
I love my job.6 -
I love fakeupdate.net - that's the way I teach my colleges to lock their screen when they leave the room.
Yesterday I made a Windows 98 screen, turned off the other monitor and disabled the keyboard. First my college was so cool and said: "I know this already just press f11" then he freaked out why this isn't working and wanted to call the support. Was a funny day.5 -
My first complete pipeline with Jenkins:
- push on gitlab
- build with maven
- test with junit
- deploy with Ansible
- integration test with Selenium
I love devops!6 -
My devDucks are here! Love at first sight 😍😍😍😍
I can finally talk to someone who will understand me 😂6 -
I recently got my first job ever as a developer. And I don't know how long the feeling will last; but I have to say it's an awesome feeling to get paid for what you love doing! I hope you guys share this feeling with me12

My First Post
My friend recommended me to try this app, and I was very impressed by the community here. 😀
I love you, devs!!7 -
Hi everyone. I'm new to this. Been lurking for a quiet some time. Best community ever IMHO ☺ Started my first programming language as c++ now somehow ended as web developer as hobby. Big shout out for you guys love your all stories ♥6

I love when job postings are like, you will use THIS tool, and THIS is how it will be accomplished!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
bitch, i'm the senior engineer, I should be the one picking and choosing tools to match your needs, not you and HR pals!
no wonder your job offer still isnt' filled!
i'd love to ask these organizations why they chose such boomer technologies in the first place and why there is no effort to change to much more developer / user friendly tools.... just a red flag from the start11 -
🇬🇧/🇺🇸: email

Yea, I fucking love my first language.15 -
So I passed my exams just now! This is one of the first official recognition of being a capable programmer for me which is a very big deal in my case.
One final thing before i could get my diploma was getting my hours signed of my second internship but they're ignoring me. Explained it to my mentor: "oh fuck that guy, I'll sign it tomorrow, you've made the hours and I'm not going to let some cunt get in your way of getting a diploma!
I fucking love my mentor.5 -
I love group projects.
There is no greater feeling than, after you set up the repository with the first code files, your team mate changes the indentation and commenting style in every file to his own style without even discussing the general coding style rules in the group first.
Fucking awesome start.
Go eat a sack of unwashed hobo balls you filthy cunt.3 -
Don't you just love cracking dev jokes and have that one special flower start with their:
"well, technically..."
followed by an explanation showing how much expertise in the field they've gathered over the years to be able to point out your joke is not 100% accurate.
Imagine them at a party.
- Knock knock
- Well, technically you wouldn't ASK who's there, statistically people would look first, but nice try13 -
Pushed my first own open source project to Pypi as a python package.
Used tox and travis for the first time.
Feeling proud and super content 😊.
I'm in the process of creating another open source package, which has as dependency the first one 😅.
I love Python.6 -
Soooo my little encryption tool makes progress. <3
After a short break from development, we had our first successful loaded container yesterday!
This means:
- Protocoll is working
- We can create containers and store/copress files in it
- we're awesome
- I love it
- you are awesome, too!
(Loaded containers will be inaccessible for movement to different directories while our tool is open)49 -
devRant is the first time I see so many people announcing to the world how much they like the app. Imagine someone be like "I LOVE Facebook! <3"
Btw, I LOVE devRant! <33 -
Now don't get me wrong, I love the multicultural aspect of open source coding.
But for the love of everything that that is sane, please do not write the basic readme and code in English, and then write the entire documentation for the code in another language.
(Yay first rant)7 -

Sooo... I didn't posted a thing in a while sooo.
I GRADUATED YESTERDAY WUHUUU
(I hope used the word graduate right)
Today my first day, still in Germanys biggest (and most hated) IPS as an planner of new telecommunication routes (love planning fiber)
I hope I can still dev, at least I am able to spend more money on tools I don't even need ❤️❤️6 -
The biggest passion of them all, for me: music.
In my case this is rawstyle/raw hardstyle/hardstyle but especially the most brutal rawstyle.
I love the energy it gives me and to listen to the techniques the artists use and also that, after a while, while the kicks all sound the same for many people, immediately identify the artist behind a kick when even hearing it for the first time (90 percent accuracy).
I'd love to produce it but I lack the skill set to do that as for now 😥
A tattoo related to this music genre is coming soon :D9 -
I'd love to develop stuff I find cool for a living and currently doing a first try but right now I can keep this up for a few more months until I have to get a job again :/
Seriously, the amount of motivation I have right now is goddamn high but money is going to become an issue soon.5 -
PSA: Proposal for the posting of third party content.
I know we all love ourselves some Dilbert or commitstrips or xckd BUT could everybody just give credit where credit credit is goddamn due!
Leaving a link isn't that hard!
Just put it as the first comment if you don't want to have it at the end of your rant.
Also for xkcd specifically put the alt text in the first comment as well. It makes the comics even funnier and shows that you are more than a half witted copy pasting monkey. -
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me—a few minutes to myself with a Rust programming book (don’t judge — I just started learning).6

Hi, I'm new to devRant. That's perfect because I love to rant about everything.

Just came home from the cinema in zurich switzerland where Samsung installed the largest 4K LED TV. Yes that's not a textile canvas in the picture, it's a wall of led tiles called Samsung ONYX. It's a real pleasure to look at. High contrasts and brilliant color. I'm in love 😍

I'm from Germany ( I hope my english is not too bad) and I'm 19 years Old and recently started my apprenticeship as a developer. I'm specialised at Web development, especially with PHP and JavaScript12 -
How the fuck have I not been using GO!
What bullshit wizardry is this!!!
I think I'm in fucking love!!
Sorry php, it's been a long long relationship, but I think I have a crush on this hamster. 🥰17 -
After i read about Arch Linux for the first time here about a few weeks ago, i thought i'd give Antergos a try on my Laptop which i use solely for working. Found out that Matlab is supported, so i don't even need a VM.
First time having a Linux distro. Still feels a bit odd for being a Win only user for a long time, but i love the look and with every hour it gets easier. :)45 -
Win 10 is the best, I love how it just restarts without asking, no more hassle of me having to confirm anything, or save data first. finally an OS that has the confidence to just do whatever the fuck it wants, so awesome!3

Mother fucking SQL, fuck mathematicians, fuck every thing!
So let's supose we'd only need the first char of a string. Every, and I mean fucking every (php, java, javascript, ruby, python, haskell) fucking language, uses something like `substring(input, 0, 1)` as it knows the input is nothing more than a fucking array of chars, otherwise known as motherfucking String. Logically the offset for the first char is 0.
Enter SQL, there you need to put `SUBSTRING(input, 1, 1)` because fuck every one! Fucking math guys who developed relational algebra on which (most) databases are based on (I love you for it, but come on you fuckers!), Decided that the first character should be at position 1...

A dev's love story
I first met WebStorm but found her too fat, I wanted a lighter editor to live some JavaScript romance with... I had a date with SublimeText and fell in love with her immediatly. I swore I would NEVER change for anybody else, everything was wonderfull !
Someday, I opened myself to other Typescripted perspectives, I had new projects in life. A coworker introduced me to VSCode. She looked like Sublime, but more convenient. She was easier to use, perfect to achieve my goals. She was also more organized with my files and her beautiful colors made me crazy. But recently, I got mad at her. VScode became slow to understand each of my moves and even threatened me to exit all the time...
I tried to come back visit my Sublime, my real first love. But I knew it would never be like before.
Now I'm here, alone. I don't know what to do with my life. If only I could fall in love again, I don't know if people can help me get out of this hole.
The END9 -

I got the job and wow that was fast. I applied for the job on monday at 2 am and they sent me the contract on tuesday (today) at 10pm. Thats 44 hours from the first mail until I got the contract :D
Also: I just love it, the company seems to be exactly what I was looking for5 -
When I hear people talk about love and the first thing that comes to mind is the Lua framework for 2D game development4
-
I love static sites and fancy new frameworks. Had an interview some time ago at a medium sized company. They specifically wanted someone to build static sites and introduce the company to Vue and Gridsome.
I got really excited for my first project. It was a wordpress site and I had to build a custom WP theme for it. Not exactly what I expected. Also I had no prior PHP knowledge, nor any experience with Wordpress. So I got really upset, because it wasn’t the technologies I was used to.
The first week was hard, I wanted to quit. But once something clicked. And I realized I know this. This is not PHP, not Wordpress, not Vue, but just simply a programming language. At the core everything programming language is the same. PHP became comfortable, Wordpress conventions didn’t bother me. I realized I can use great technologies with WP too. I get to know twig, added some sass, compiled everything nicely with webpack. And after a month I have a beautiful, fast and efficent site. I love it.
I realised that I don’t love the languages and frameworks. I love coding itself. I love creating efficent and reliable, clean code. No matter the architecture.
And my advice for you is to stop hating particular languages and serious debates on what is better, and hating your job when you can’t code in your new shiny framework. Love coding itself, because it’s a wonderful activity. We are creators, we are artists. Not <insert specific programming language here> developers.16 -
Do you ever just wake up and your first thought is the perfect solution for a problem from the previous day and then you're like wtf brain you're supposed to sleep not to solve problems at night?
This is when I know I do what I was born to do! Dev is love.1 -
I'm taking a unit at my university called 'simulation and modeling'. Today was the first class and the professor was talking about random number generators.
Professor: Every language has a function to generate...Every good(emphasis on good) language has a function to generate a random number... Oh well even php does...
😂😂😂😂I'm already in love with the unit...5 -
🤔🤔🤔. As much as i love jokes on javascript, i hate dumb jokes. Someone just called me a mansplainer (first time i heard that word though).12

Recently, my friend and I participated in a hackathon and had the chance of building my very first Dapp. We call it FarmerChain. FarmerChain has a module called Farmer Bank. It's a simple wallet type contract simulating a "bank". I'd love some feedback from you guys. Any critiques/suggestions/ everything is welcome. Source code https://github.com/imshubhamsingh/...15

Tfw when you try to make your first rant and you have no idea what to talk about because there are hundreds of things that you can rant about and so you end up making a generic "I'm new here, please help me!" post.
I love computers :)7 -
I wanna learn rust, go, Ruby, lolcode, brainfuck, the meaning of life, etc... And then every time I start a new side project I always do that in C xD I guess it's because you can not easily forget your first love :D7

I love code but my wife comes first. My kids come first. Although I do code for gun, a lot of times my other hobbies come first.
My life comes first. Am I alone?9 -
Someone here on devrant that used to go under the name LetMeCode ranted about php and said how much they'd rather work with the Phoenixframework.
Love on first sight. Studied Elixir to get a job as an elixir dev and got my first and current job right after graduating high school.
So yeah, that rant might have changed my life. Saved me from becoming a java or php dev for sure!4 -
First and foremost: do more to show my wife that I love and appreciate her. Not dev but damned important.
Write my own web version of the taskwarrior client.

Trying to buy a house in another state. First time moving out of state, first time trying to buy a house. Making first offer this weekend. Which is terrifying, and exciting. But it’s also lonely because my other half is in the other state looking at houses and I’m stuck here working and taking care of the cats.
Had a poor mental health day yesterday. Got a call today that my mama (gran on my mum’s side) took a tumble and has been in hospital and they don’t think she’ll pull through. I don’t have many memories of her, but the memories I do have are happy ones. She was always full of life and love and kindness.

1 year and a half ago, I quit the job where I spent almost 6 years; My first job after that was as a freelancer for certain company here in colombia, but after sometime I learned that freelancing for local companies is not well payed at all, so I decided to try to work with toptal(a pre-vetted freelancer platform)
So the process included a first interview with a HR person, it was a british lady that mopped the floor with me(she wasn't rude at all but I felt horrible) 'cuz I couldn't speak english good enough, and then I was rejected... Some time down the line I created a rant for anyone that were willing to speak sometime to practice english conversations. @jesustricks and @orhun answered and in fact I got to speak with them.
@amyshackles spoke with me too, I reached her out over linkedin 😊
Just wanted to say thank you, finally I got a job offer with a nearshore company, you helped me a lot there, speaking with you people gave confidence and more knowledge. Again thank you, love you guys.
PS: you don't have to love me back7 -
I was writing some super basic following ai on paper during another prolifically stagnant physics class, and my teacher walks over to me...
She looks over my shoulder at the paper and continues to stare...
“Programming stuff,” I replied when she prompted me as to what it is that I was writing.
Then she continued to stare...
And stare...
Pointing at the word “energy”, she made a most enlightening and endearing comment: “Looks like physics.”
Then she walked away
And that was that2 -
I loved Python from when I wrote my first program up to I googled "how to import a module from a parent directory".
My love lasted 30 seconds16 -
First things first:
HI devRant. This is my first post, I've been a observer for the most by now but I'm so glad I found this network (by searching for other people who hate ionic, angular, react)
Question:
What is it about Linux, that any developer seems to love?
I'm a IT student in Germany and I grew up with windows. I know what it's doing, I'm working quite fast on it and it just runs well.
But inehrn I look around at the university the guys who really know what they're doing with their code are using Linux only. There's not even one of them who would consider windows.
I couldn't really find a satisfying answer for that.16 -

You know when they love you at work when the first they do after you park your car is bombard you with NERF bullets1 -
Unpopular opinion:
I currently work remotely, but as it's my first job I would love to work locally with other devs in a room... Motivating can be quite hard sometimes when you're alone.
(And I know this attitude will probably change once I worked locally some time)3 -
That moment when the entire office is Apple fanboys and you are the only windows supporter.
What can I do? First love is first love.19 -
First time installing Linux on desktop, I’ve decided for Arch because I wanna learn. Skimmed through official guide, looks hard.
So exciting, I love computers!10 -
I used to love small 12 pt fonts but recently I've really liked coding with medium sized 16-18pt fonts and it's a big difference. As long as the characters are thin (like first code light) I really quite prefer it.
Am... Am I getting old...?13 -
I have started my first job as a web developer since February 1st. During the one month training period which is in progress, one of the training sessions was on Git and believe me Git is the most fascinating thing came to know me since I have joined computer science field. In love with it.2

First thing, I love my colleague. I know him for 15 years and I'm under 30. But I freaking hate when he picks his nose FOR ALL THE DAY LONG and uses shared mouses and keyboards, leaving them unable to use. I have to clean all that mess and no matter what we say he still do it. :(5

Ada Lovelace 1834 (The First Programmer) Doctor Who season 12 😍
One of the reasons I love this show is how it brings history to life.23 -
LOL that's why I love C!
The function pointer cast for strcmp because qsort expects a compare function with two const void * pointers instead of two const char * pointers, that's just beautiful.
Not to mention the hack to abuse strcmp on a struct - which just works because the first struct member is a string and the rest just gets swapped with memcpy as opaque data.
I guess that wouldn't pass a code review at work. :-)6 -
Gotta love when you have something breaking because of an interface you have to maintain for a subcontractor for some shit that never should have been subcontracted in the first place and the problem is an obscure error caused by a Microsoft product that you're only using because the other Microsoft product you were using is no longer supported. So I guess what I am saying is fuck subcontractors, fuck Microsoft, and fuck tlb files

Dear Valentine,
I am writing this to express my love towards you. I know not many express their love towards their own. But I won't forget you and our relationship. Here goes my love for you.
I would first like to thank you for bearing with me & supporting me all along. You have been there with me through all my good and bad times. In fact my day starts with you and ends with you. I was with you in all my moods. There were a few times when I didn't believe in you, but you did what I wanted. There were times when you let me down, but you made it up to you later. I am sorry for heavy workloads these days. I love your performance. I know you love doing it. I know you more than anyone. I guess you also know me better w.r.t my history. Thanks for helping me getting my work done, helping me with job applications, helping me find new people, helping me have fun, helping me organised and for everything.
You do know there might be time where I may have to replace you. I assure you to do my best to upgrade you instead of replacing so that I can hang on to you much longer.
I love you 😍 < >-ThinkpadE570

Well, this is a sad day. I'm on the first page of supporters and have been supporting for many years, but today, I'm going to have to stop. I've felt like for a while my money has not been well used, merely running a site with no active development or even community interaction.

It’s so great to hear Apple is finally officially making the transition to rolling out their own silicon on everything... fucken fabulous. Sure there may be problems at first but this might just get the ball rolling to get more companies todo the same... we need to eliminate the silicon monopolies... ARM and rolling your own is the future... well it always use to be the standard... back in the day, until the whole modularity and lean manufacturing and order off the shelf shit came about .... but finally we have once again come full circle back to where things use to be.... pairing hardware with software fucken beautiful LOVE IT!!!
Sure this will affect portability but .... guess what folks... means more jobs for us... quit being lazy and complaining about having to work..
Love vertical integration!!!!34 -

First of all I want to say that I like how much this group rant is inspired by people complaining about their parents last week. (there were a lot)

I love Unix systems because everything goes smoothly most of the time but today... Fuck me... I just wanted to see how many lines my script was with "wc - l" but I couldn't remember "m" or "w". 180 degrees separated despair and monotony, although I didn't know it yet. Yet another reason, why I love the Internet and it's ability to remove remove borders that should not exist in the first place.
Around seven hours ago, I met a stranger while playing rocket league. Just now I said goodbye to a friend, with whom I talked about our lives, our opinions on certain matters and our cultures.
Just within seven hour I made a friend with whom I could talk honestly about things I could probably not even talk about with my parents.2 -

Nearly me this morning:
Hi, thanks for reaching out to me to see if we'd be interested in partnering on the attached R&D project. I'd love to read the proposal but first, can we talk about your personal website? I noticed the link in your email footer and it offends my eyes beyond belief. Will there scope in the project to address this issue? -

Attending my first dev meetup this weekend 😇 so excited, I'd love to meet some people to collab with. -
I love IntelliJ??? At first I got frustrated cause there was a small learning curve and I was impatient but after actually using it for the first time today It’s great5

Always get into a slight existential crisis during this time of winter.
Is my job worth all the trouble? Should I sell my house? Break up with my love? Start using a different programming language?
Probably has something to do with the psychological effect of this arbitrary point where we consider a year to end, and begin a new one.
I have no idea yet. I think my job is the first one to go, the rest is probably salvageable. -

Got my first job last week as a junior gameplay programmer. Dream job 😁
Well, more like a dream position than the actual dream job.
Proprietary engine and a new language are kinda hard to wrap my head around, but I've been having so much fun that by the time 4 rolls around I usually don't notice it and stay for an hour or so more.
I love it!4 -
Childhood dementia is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.
You’re fourteen. You don’t have mental disorders. You used to be sharp. Yet, you’re not really there anymore. But your mother didn’t smoke during pregnancy, and you did nothing to deserve it.
Your personality, memories, everything that makes you “you” just rots away. There is no cure. You’ll never fall in love, never have your first kiss, your first boyfriend, never travel the world, never be a prom queen, never marry, never have kids.
You’re dying, and you’re too far gone to realize it.10 -

Used Java for the first in a while to brush up on my advanced DS skills.
My love for Java has been restored.
I feel so satisfied.4 -
I'm still on my first job. Started on November , 2015. I am a system analyst for the government. Love it very much. I work with great and fun people and my boss is badass. And besides all that, I get paid relatively well for someone with my level of experience. Really can't complain.3

I love when searching for the error gives you results like this on the top of the first page on google. As you might imagine I don't speak Chinese17

Oh god! Why did I change to Ubuntu!!! This machine is running hotter and slower!!! Battery drains faster than ever!
There's no going back to windows 10... looking back, I love windows 10 despite its faults :')
Did anyone else experience the same? First thing I'm doing in the morning is install arch linux10 -

I love the first weeks after a job change. It's just like falling in love, everything seems to be perfect until you take off the pink glasses.
Have to wait until I'm assigned a burning project to have a full picture.
Actually I am in a burning project. Deadline in 2 weeks. Doing Bugfixes which do not require in-depth project knowledge, and... It's fine. All a matter of perspective. I also think that project based work suits me more than usual 15y old legacy enterprise shit. And I'm able to switch. From embedded C++ over hardware dev to fullstack .NET (I consider myself as a full-fullstack dev, able to do everything from hardware to frontend).
Topics such as IOT, medical, device engineering, machine learning. Wow.
It's my first company having >50 employees and multiple offices in multiple countries. I used to jump every 2 years from one shitty garage company to another.
Wish me good luck ✌️2 -
I always thought programming was not for me, simply because I'm not really good at math. I studied graphic design, but switched to an education called Interactive Multimedia Design, which teaches a combination of webdevelopment and -design. At first, I thought I'd love the design part more, and would really struggle with development, but it turned out that I was a natural; I wrote my first Java program and I fell in love with programming. 6 years later I'm a happy full stack JS developer, rarely doing any graphic work anymore. I do have a soft spot for UX still, but that only makes me better at what I do on a daily basis, imho.

Some time ago I posted rant "I love go".

Hey guys
So, a new game has ben launched on kongregate.

I have no affiliation to it, but I think you guys will love my first try.
Btw, the name of the religion and almost everything is chosen by the gamer, so my pick was Scientology3 -
In love with Laravel events, listeners and mailables. What a beautiful way of doing this. Can't say how much I love this framework. <3
Can't wait to implement redis and queues. Am excited to try this for the first time. Share exp. if you have, pls.4 -
This has been an interesting week! In my first management position, my first person to hire as a senior frontend developer has been approved!
Also made some killer API's this week! Show me the love!

Two new Laptops arrived at our office today. Tried to install Manjaro on a USB with different Windows Tools because Windows Laptop was the easiest to access. Nothing Fucking worked!

My first year lecturers in university. They were always passionate about their jobs and programming as a whole that it rubbed off on me. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be staying up all hours working on projects while there are assignments due. My love of what I do stems from them and I would love to inspire at least one person like they did with me.

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me posting this here. But I just wanted to get your feedback on a game I am currently developing. Its an RPG Shoot em up. Kind of like an 8bit Star Citizen.

Yesterday I reinstalled my system because I wanted to have linux on my ssd and windows on my hdd. So after 2 retries because first windows was bitching about the drive format even after I set the correct one and the second time I installed linux and windows broke. Now finally everything is back to normal and I can start coding. One thing suprised me (badly) windows is super slow now. Luckilly linux is the opposite. I love linux.4

Started new course called "Introduction to natural language processing" in uni. I am super bad at doing regular expressions and don't understand anything about them.
Saw the first weeks homework. Have to do i.e. some text cleanup with regex... I was sad. But now after reading the course material and trying some of the exercises I'm super excited since I'm actually doing something "real" with it.
Do you guys just love it when teaching material is well written? I do.3 -
Animator for 15+ years. Started self learning python a few months back. I made my first useful app today... Move the cursor every 10 seconds. 2019 is off to a good start.

Y'all know when you first hear about interrupts? Maybe on an arduino or something when you're just getting started and learning?
Yea after suffering enough trying to get ISRs running on an x86 just to get keyboard input going, I can safely and securely confirm it's all going downhill.

I'm thinking about making an linkidin account. I'm mostly a privacy centered person so I don't have any social media. Should I do it because it can maybe help me in my career? I'm currently at my first junior dev job.

Teach kids to love computer science first, the rest comes later.
When I was in uni, most of my pals don't know why they're in the class. How the fuck can you teach linked list implementation when most of the students don't seem to bother to understand what a variable is? -
I always love to stare the application that I develop... First I start with admiring it... then the things that could have been done to enhance the feature.. then the bugs that could only be seen by me.. then all these results in new update of the application and this cycle continues 😂

Wrote my first programs on my Commodore C64.
First program was a number guessing game where you needed to guess a number between 1 and 100. Shit had 300+ lines because I only new the if clause and the equals comparison.
I was 9.
Later a friend showed me Modula 2 and I was instantly in love with that language.
Real programming then in school (C, C++, µC assembler). -
Because when you built the UI and you watch how the end user interact with it, it’s like watching your kid approach their first love, or like watching moon rover landing except you designed and built the whole program by yourself.
It’s just magical.1 -
I never liked Facebook. I only use it to get posts from the pages on architecture. Yeah, i wanted to be an architect 😅. But after a week of getting into coding, i flipping fell in love with this too. After, i found devrant, i thank god that it exists. Facebook is for people ranting about what their relatives are liking or hating or what, people they don't know, are doing. That's not real. What you guys, the community so wonderful rants about everyday, is the real stuff. I love devrant. I love to code.

P.S. didn't proof read the above because high on sleep2 -

I'm a .net and PHP developer and love visual studio. I also hate windows 10 and it's stupid surprise reboots. Twice I switched to Linux mint but returned to windows because of the IDE. Been on VS (with PHP tools) for too long and nothing on Linux comes close to VS not to mention the lack of .net 4.6 (no mono) on Linux. M$ make Visual Studio 2015 cross platform!9 -
Concept: an app that runs on a smartwatch that activates when you disable an alarm (temporarily, not through the settings) and uses the on board sleep sensors to re-enable the alarm so you dont over sleep. But if you do actually wake up the first time, you dont need to disable a second alarm.
I would love to know if this app already exists or if someone is going to make it6 -
Gotta love it when your client tells his whole company that they can contact you for any question related to computers. I'm a fucking developer and no first level Microsoft Windows support.2

How do you guys keep motivation in a long term project? Cause I could be completely motivated in the first like half but then just lose interest even though I love the project itself.8

As much as I love programming, I like to help others when they're in trouble with code (even thoe sometimes I'm not that helpful) but I hate when someone asks me for help and when I try that person acts he knows it all and that my suggestions are stupid... I've just started my new career with a job in IT operations and I love it. After my electrical engineering degree I fell into a job as a website manager for a small company, I self taught html and css and I knew from then that I had found a job that didn't feel like a job. I'm excited to learn everything I need to know to progress as far as I can go in this industry. In my first few weeks at this new job (where i have my own office!) Hey guys!
So a few days ago I started the #100DaysOfCode Challenge but at the end of the first day I got annoyed by realizing how frustrating the character limit on Twitter can be.
So I started a blog where I could say whatever I want withiut any limits.
Then, yesterday, I got two projects to make as a final project for my game development lab. So I decide while making it to also write a tutorial on it!
I'm currently on the second part and I would really really reaaaaally LOVE some feedback since it's the first time I write a blog and tutorials 😅 And well, I believe the style is kinda different from the usual blog, so I would love to know what you think about it.
Also any ideas and suggestions will be extremely appreciated!
You can find the blog at https://blog.kamaropoulos.tk
You can also find some more backstory on my Twitter profile @KamaropoulosK
Thank you everyone in advance SO much!
You are all great people and I'm glad to be part of this amazing community!
Have a great day/evening/night everyone!3 -
Keyboard in my laptop died, mobo issue. Work gave me an ex-lease Dell E6430s. First thing I did was dual boot with Ubuntu 16.10 - can't believe how smooth it was. When I put Debian on my Lenovo G570 I had a ton of issues. I love Linux.

You know that moment, when you look for something on wikipedia, and after few hiperlinks you are reading about influence of penguins on Mars' day length or othen nonsense?
Just happened to me like 4th time when reading Django documentation. It is so well written and easy to understand, that I just click and click and want to go deeper, and then realise I have to read what I need, because I never ever got to it in the first place.
Gotta love the people who make such docs. I never could, and prbly will.1 -
For the first time, after 4 years, i have installed tinder. I feel depressed for having to do vengeance. And i also feel depressed for not having to do it. I feel sad for being forced to find another girl. This is not how i imagined it to be
Right now its 1-0 for my blonde ex gf. I have to have a random hookup at least a 1 night stand to make this 1-1. This is what i did before but now after experiencing love for the first time, true love in the first 2 years with her, for the first time that somebody genuinely loved me other than my parents, is very hard for me to go back to random hookups
Hookups are meaningless to me now. But i am forced. I have been given a check mate
⚠️Why do i have to be forced to fuck another girl in order to prove my girlfriend that other girls still want me, so that my girlfriend will love and want me again as well?....⚠️
Please reread this paragraph above 3 more times. Let it sink in. That is saddening to me. The more she sees how no other girl wants me, the less interest she has in me....
Im literally sitting. Listening to sad depressing "music" which is more of nature and dark rain sounds. I also started working out aggressively. I couldnt eat for 5 days due to finding chats on my blonde ex gfs phone with the other guy...
Now 8 days later... I have lost 6 kg and counting. I am barely eating. I am using the screenshots of their chats as an overdosed injection of adrenaline every time pre workout and during workout
Today she didnt text me at all. I always start the conversation first. I have to move on and i am still in disbelief that i have to do it.
My birthday is next week and the last thing i need is to spend being depressed....
I feel lost
But i have a feeling all i need to do is get rich. All i need is to get my money up and that way find more easily a new better behaved normal gf.
God help me
Forgive me God for everything
Thank you God for everything
Guide me God on the right path, for i am lost
Please.

I got a Commodore 64 as a Christmas gift at an age where I was far too young to fully appreciate it. I'd spend hours typing in code from printed magazines. Fell in love with it instantly. Nothing ever worked first time. Loading a game was a chore. It blew my mind. Little tear in my eye now thinking of how my late father and I would spend hours trying to get the beige-bastard to "play ball".1

Whatever the task needs.
New paradigm? Probably a book first approach.
Library/API: their own suggested tutorials and references cause that shit moves quick.
If I have to read a cave painting to understand an ancient card punch language I’ll happily do it.
I’ve found, when I don’t know something yet I get the “brick wall” feeling, that this is all going to be too difficult... I’ve learned to love that feeling.
If all else fails: RTFM. -
My dad in 2002 to 7 year old me: "I got you your own domain, this is how you upload files to it. Good luck!"
But the first experience was him recording some of my first sentences. I love my dad <3 -
made my first dart server today, i already fucking love it!
i already used it for flutter, and previous node.js was my backend of choice.
i'd recommend strongly. no matter the platform for the frontend, web or mobile (or desktop app), you can use dart, and you can use it for the backend too!
it's like java but not shit.3 -
Microservices! So many little services and parts communicating and working together and everything going to shit on my first 100 tries, love it.1

Oh, god...why? (my reaction reading my code from 5 years ago, when I got my first programming job)
I still work there and I love it. I learned a lot in these years... -
Well this explains why I'm a programmer...
First off, what do you love doing? Secondly, what are you good at? Thirdly, what does the world need? Lastly, what can you be paid for? Think of your answers as a Venn diagram; you’ll find your ikigai where all four circles overlap.1 -
I live in Asia, where Pinkerton Syndrome is rampant amongst the professional workforce.
I've been approached by local recruiters who love tossing the company's country of origin (usually a developed nation from the European continent) in the first sentence of an email, and beseech me to call them back ASAP, or lose the opportunity of a lifetime.
I also get condescending emails from Caucasian 'CEO/Director' (no offence meant, I know the entire demographic is never represented by sub-samples) looking to pay below average rates.
Is getting difficult to be civil with these morons.5 -
Ok so I'm am a black end kind of guy and have had to deal with making our site again and again and again and fu#@ing again.
Who the hell thought up using SVG icons. My first look at it today and I'm not sure if I hate it or love it. Any thoughts?9 -

I love them, they look fancy, true.. but are a total nightmare to select text. My stüpid brain will never get it right on the first try..or second or... :/2 -
Better ideas:
I love building stuff and when i have something that I'm really into, it's hard to concentrate on the boring stuff i need to finish first.
Sometimes i just need to do what i feel like doing, doesn't matter. No, i won't go to bed, no i can't do the other stuff, i need to do that!1 -
Which project should I finish first?:
1. The history teacher will give me excelent mark for filming and editing a history project (i have half the footage)
2. The side project that i love
3. Posting a math project in a website3 -
yesterday morning, released the first wave build of a website to a client, still loads to do but it shows progress. working from my own approved design flats so building it is speedier. no response all day, fearing the worst, finally at 11:10 pm she texts my “love it!”. fucking relieved! waiting for the email today “but... can you just...”, there always is one!1

I don't have anything to do with the site, found it yesterday while searching for arduino stuff, and MANNNN .... It has the best pratical tutorials I ever saw... Not like most, where they teach you the basics...

Instructables, First App, Instructions with pictures and videos on how do connect the Arduino, install IDE (this is the most basic tutorial after all). then the tutorial, Light 4 leds and do a lightshow...

¿Why people hate PHP so much? I love it since it was my first web dev lang and I fell in love with it, however, I decided to move to another language since apparently It's going to die, not saying tomorrow but eventually. I'm not sure which language to pick (between Python (django, pyramid), Elixir (Phoenix) or Ruby (RoR). Any suggestions?
Also, what language you use and do you like PHP?4 -
I don't know if I can be developer anymore. After I went to high school (one of the best in Poland) everything seems to collapse. My grades are poor. Especially on math and physics, but surprisingly everything Computer Science related is better than average. I also know how to code and I don't struggle with math used while programming. Heck, I even made my first game at the age of 10 in Visual Basic. I just love programming, computer science, etc, but after I went to high school I just don't know anymore...5

I managed to remember some old Bitwarden (password manager service, I remember that linuxxx recommended me this one a looong time ago) credentials, so I logged in. I found an old devRant account - not my first though (I deleted it).
I've been a random lurker all this time (this is the first dev community I've been and I'm not planning to leave it until it dies), and it's good to login just to give my 2 cents.
I love you all. Seriously. I love you all with every single bit of my heart (get it?), impartially. Thanks for existing.

Some bitch posted a story "Fear God and obey God's commandments, because thats the only thing asked from mankind ❤️"
This fucking story fueled me
It enraged me
Blood boil
So fucking much that i had to let this shit out here
First of all, "FEAR God..."
If you fear someone who is supposed to love you, does that look like a healthy relationship to you?
"I love you so much", said the boyfriend to his girlfriend, "but if you dont love me back then I'll set you on fire so you can burn in flames and torment"
In that case do you love him because you genuinely truly love him, or do you HAVE TO love him because of fear from burning alive in fire and torment?
Think about that fucking scenario for a while. Imagine if that scenario happens in our world. The guy would be labeled as a psychopath and get arrested IMMEDIATELY.
But it's completely ok when God does THE EXACT SAME THING, just because hes God?
I'm a christian and even this fucks me up when i think about it. The more logical mind and critical thinking i acquire the more i see through the non logical bullshit.
My faith is shaky.
Im genuinely starting to think over 50% of religious people believe in God not because they genuinely believe, but because of fear of being set on fire and torment forever.
It smells to me like its a fucking MIND CONTROL FEAR DRIVEN CULT.7 -
I think I'm in love.
Can you legally marry a computer program? Because I sure would like to propose to git.
When I read the various "What do you regret not doing sooner? Starting to use GIT" rants, I though meh, it cannot be that amazing. But it is, it goddamn is.
GIT already managed to save me ~three days of headache, and possibly prevented me from degrading my AI. And all that on the first day of usage!
I think my life has become at least 30% easier today^^3 -
In high school I absolutely hated business and science subjects(phy, chem, bio) as well.
Not to forget fucking maths. Calculas and all that shit I never paid attention to.
I chose CS hoping it would rid me of maths.
Fell in love with programming the very first semester.
Now I'm in my last semester and a freelance Web Dev. -
I just love optimizing stuff and here is my story I think somehow is very cool as you can see the progress just looking at two values.
//NOTE: This api relies on another api which is slow af. The requests are done here directly but later will be carried out async and in the background by using some ticket system.
1) First PoC
2) Used caching of requests and improved method to filter out unnecessary stuff
3) Optimized response formatting
NOTE to myself: Things are going too good...4 -

But I will have you know that unsuccessfully scouring the web for why my json config file wasn't being read into the struct followed by almost two hours of messing around with every little thing... Gotta love spending forever overthinking. The solution is often too simple!4 -

I’ve 2 great job opportunities and would like to get some opinions from you guys..
The first position is in my home country, I’ve passed the first interviews and (highly advanced) coding test.
I’d have the possibility to contribute to something big that really matters nowadays.
I would learn about lots of stuff that really interests me (security, embedded systems...)
The second position is in another country, I’ve passed the first interview and just received the coding test.
There I could work on a cool project and I’d definitely learn a lot there, too. But more important is that I love the county, there I really feel like “home”, I love the people and culture.
In case both of them want me, it would be really Hard to make my decision..
What would you do in my situation?
- dream job in a country I don’t necessarily like, neither dislike
- cool job in a country I totally wanna settle down sooner or later (but currently wouldn’t have problems getting the permissions and stuff..)?
Thanks in advance:)1 -
I'm in love with service workers. This is so fucking satisfying (also love the offline first capabilities)6

Today, I used a curry function for the first time outside the context of a classroom/assignment, to solve a real-world problem. boy do I love functional programming.
-
Well, first off I want to actually pass my college classes. You know, the classes I barely find interest in that seem to be very minimal in my coding skills.
Next, take up or join a project for the summer. You know, get my name out there.
Third, make money
Fourth, make something significant in the OSdev community. I absolutely love low-level dev. Now (to myself) Let's do this! -
Hello dear fellow programmers,
Lately I'm faced with an issue: i can't code. It takes me a really long time to get my codeengine running and it stops on the first occasion, it either be a cigarette pause, a question from a coworker or what ever.
I love code and I have a blast when I start but I have a hard time starting it.
What to do? I'm a bit at a loss here1 -
Our company's first open source project: https://github.com/digineers/...
It's a Symfony bundle that enables logging changes to entities to allow simple mutation logging systems.
Would love to read some of your opinions :)1 -
We've only met once and it was love at first sight. But now we're apart because some forces are conspiring against us x(
Give me back my storm trooper mug ! -
Dear Microsoft, I see what you were going for, and I love you for it; but for the love of god, please fucking fix the clusterfuck that is Nuget.
I use a private feed for client work, and I have the public source registered too, so why would installing a new .core template from Nuget fail just because it tried the private feed first and shit itself?
It really shouldn’t be this hard.
Sincerely,
Brolls -
Rails, React, React-Native, Docker, Kubernetes, Openstack, Jenkins, AWS, Microservices, Realm, MongoDB, PostgresQL, GraphQL (list goes on...), and I'm not even done yet.
6 months was spent learning all of the above because I found a Rails-only monolith on Heroku unsettling. My first batch of containers was just deployed and I couldn't be happier. Love my job.3 -
I'd love to work for NASA or Space X and be one of the first to colonize mars. Should that not work out, I also really want to work for Google and do some freelance work on the side maybe. And all of that is only true if by then I haven't created the next big tech thing.

Hi devRant community,
First of all, I'm so grateful and thankful for being part
of this awesome community. CHEERS!
I just wanna ask some advices from my super kind and awesome
pile of developers, what is the best thing to do if you're
stucked between creating a certain feature and a raging
girlfriend. I mean, my head is aching. I don't know what to do.
She needs time, but my first love which is programming also
needs much more of my time.
#devRantRocks3 -
I used to dev on Windows and using a Mac was a nightmare at first because of the different keys... was always using control to try and copy and paste. Now I love Macs, though I'm constantly pressing the Windows key to try and copy and paste on Windows. #devproblems1

When I first got Linux, then fell in love with diving through the system on the command line. Then I also realised I finally had the confidence to learn what I wanted, instead of what was advised to me.
Still in no way confident with programming, but I'm getting there. -
I love my job,
this is how my normal day goes:
me: *turns on computer*
computer: Good morning, erandria. What will your first sequence of the day be? -
"Rust, the language that makes you feel like a memory astronaut navigating through a borrow-checker asteroid field. Lifetimes? It's more like love letters to the compiler. Safety first, even if it means writing a Ph.D. thesis to move a mutable reference around."2

Some of you guys noted that I am currently working on my own Java webserver/framework. Yesterday I encountered a small problem...
My fucking API I use because I love the HttpExchange Function is fucking without NIO! So every request blocks other requests....
You guys know any API like the Sun httpserver ( I know I shouldn't have used it in the first place ) where I can do things like in an HTTPExchange?2 -
All designers and developers are secretly in love with cookie banners and other kinds of popups, as long as they distract users, obscure content and contain a lot of text that is hard to understand.
We must love to deceive our users and make them click a primary call to action button to make sure that they are fine with bypassing anything that privacy laws have been made for in the first place.
Or where are the best practice examples, code snippets and plugins do find a better way by default? Any commercial website will sooner or later require some kind of cookie banner and that's the whole point of contemporary web design.3 -
Every once in a while I come across a challenge that's actually challenging. Most recently ... "Develop Regex for validating and extracting a recipe's ingredient's quantity"
Regex should properly identify the numbers in each of the following lines:
1 cup of ingredient
Diced 1/2 cup of ingredient
.5 tsp of ingredient
1 1/2 packed cup of ingredient
1.5 cup of Heavy whipping cream
My answer is the first comment in case you want to solve it yourself. I'd love to know what others come up with.5 -
This screenshot is from when i first installed Ubuntu, i think 2 years ago.
I though well I'm not gonna be using it much, why bother giving it more than 30 gigs?
WRONG
I instantly fell in love and this became my daily driver. Within 2 weeks this happened. So I did what any sane person would do. Deleted windows partition to make space for this lil fella. (I didn't have much hdd space)
I am a proud man4 -
Hey all, got my first job as a self-taught developer at the age of 20.
Designation: Software Engineer
Would love to read your journey of getting your first job as a software engineer.1 -
Hello,
I have a job interview tomorrow, and it appears to be a great opportunity. Could you guys suggest some questions I could ask the interviewer about the company, and some questions I should ask about the job too?
I was thinking about asking about the corporate culture, and about the company's vision.
But apart from thr company, I would love to know about the job too. I have always ever been employed as a contractor and freelancer. So I nevrr really had to do kuch in interviews, but I'd love some help as this would be my first ever interview.7 -
I just changed my username from 'aashimaY' to 'sarena'. Can anyone guess what the new one means. Hint: It's a combination of two words, with the second half being a famous thing (I guess).
PS: You may not get the first half and that's fine. But I would love to see if anyone can guess the second one.11 -
Not a rant, but I'd love to see three top notch developers, doing a coding challenge, in the same language, without any text editors, IDE's, compilers ( other than pre-installed ones ) when they start, working on 'their' most unfamiliar OS; the three OS options being Linux, Windows & OSX.
Any opinions on who might complete first?6 -
Is there a good place to post code and have people comment on the style or the logic? I'd love to start getting feedback on my code and break bad habits before they become too ingrained. Plus, our first project is a blackjack game, I'm working through it pretty well but I'm a little stuck and I think it's completely because I'm paranoid I'm not doing it well/right (even though I probably am).2
-
Hey devrant fam!,
Hope everyone is well, recently I've been really looking into contributing in some open source projects!, So i'd love to ask anyone have some advice? Is there a possibility of having a 'Beginner' open source project? would love some advice :-), its my first time going down this path!
thank you!6 -
OMG, Usually I'll be the first to protect Visual Studio. (I do love it, I love to have everything inside same IDE).
But since last update....
Lunch VS 2022with your project.
Start a new SQL querry via SQL servers explorer
Execute querry.
Now, try to fucking close thios not saved SQL file. It will ask you, if you wanna save bla bla.
And then... VS just dies.... Goes in full COPU usage mode for 2-3 MINUTES lol.
Only happens with unsaved SQL files, while connexion is opened AND you have an opened solution -
Got my first computer, Commodore 64, when I was 9. My first thought and only agenda, how can I make this thing do what I want it to do. I believe there was a book that came with it that had programs in BASIC. I copied some and then began to fiddle around on my own. I fell in love and 32 years later, the saga continues.
-
I love that moment in the company when my opinion does not matter about but the time gives the reason to the crazy tech guy that nobody listen in first place4
-
bunq, N26 or revolut? I am also a bit sceptical because of brexit - i am sure it would affect revolut. I don't like the pricing of n26 but the metal MasterCard looks sexy and I love the features of bunq.
Not sure which bank I should choose...
Has anyone here got some more info about those three mobile first banks?9 -
Django was the first then meteor js snap my heart, a few years of love and hate relationship I finally realized phoenix was the one all a long even though I kept thinking about meteor js from time to time <34

Ok, I’ve decided. I have a really old laptop that I love but is only usable for basic surfing and text editing, so I’m gonna put a Linux distro on there to experiment.
Baby’s first Linux!3 -
I met a girl through Tinder. During the first date we talked abour our jobs. When you talk with passion about what you love there is not way to the other person to get interested.
#dev is the new #sexy3 -
Today I wrote my first small python application as an exercise:
Scraping all post EuroJackpot draws from a website, save them in a database, sort them, some checks and do some combinations. Everything quite clean in classes and functions.
And the "application" is just 100 lines big. I love it so far how much can be accomplished with just a few lines. -
Fate chose Computer Science for me.
It's only after 1st semester of Computer Science Undergraduate Program that I came across C, my first programming language. I had no idea what a CS Degree is all about. It was a blind shot, to be honest.
I wrote a few programs and fell in love with coding. I got high after solving every problem. I craved for more. It's all magical!
I'm enjoying every moment of my developer career. It's a hell lot of fun! I'm glad that my blind shot turned out be a good one. -
Install Linux they said, it's better than a blue screen windows they said, THERE IS NO LINUX DRIVER OR NDISWRAP SUPPORT FOR MY WIFI ADAPTER I'M BASICALLY IN THE SAME BLOODY SPOT BUT WITH A PRETTIER TERMINAL! The reason for getting a blue screen in the first place was a bloody fucked up wifi driver!!!! I both love and hate you guys7

Epiphany..?
My first was in the toilet, I had to clean up fast and go to my laptop to catch up the idea, when it worked I realized I will love this field.
After few years, with this stress and anxiety. I am slowly having my next big epiphany that this is not my job.1 -

Just went to my first Ruby Meetup in Lyon, FR 😍
It was so weird to actually meet people that fully understand why you love Ruby so much, since they love it too!
I'm so envious of the people whose job is to develop in this language, I really hope my next job will be about working with Rails too *.*1 -
My first exposure to computers was my mom’s Commodore 64 when I was a kid. I used to love playing “Impossible Mission” and “Way Out” on there. Eventually I started programming in Basic on it.
-
My wife gave me an iPhone for Christmas. The last one I had was the 4. As soon as it connected to my computer and I answered the first call from it. I don't know, I fell in love. Mind you, I don't want the Apple Watch. I have an amazfit neo and I like it that way.6
-
OMG it's suprising when you write down a code that run in the first time without an error :O I love Rust so much and I will never go back to C++ :D1
-
Just learnt machine learning
First thing first, i applied it to csgo roulette
Got to say that i love it.
Doesn't always gets it right, but meh .. im ok with it so far5 -
Oh man! M in love with one girl! I am in final year of engineering IT and she is in CSE, both have secured good placement, botha are from same community, first i thought she liked me, but when i asked her out to come with me..for a party of my placement, she says no !! :( . Why? Coz her classmates tease her with the name of boys she talks too and she doesn't like that :( ! I am really into her 😿 why do i get friendzoned :(. I really thought she might be into me aswell. I am sad. Love hurts 💔, family love❤2
-
I'd love to get stickers, but first I need laptop instead of PC :D any ideas for good cheap laptop for web dev? :)8
-
See image first, then read this for background info.
Living with cats and cats love to step on the laptop's builtin keyboard because you have an external one.
Disabling the internal keyboard on boot seems smart... until you start your laptop without an external one attached.
Also apologies for butchering the template a bit.3 -
My father is an electrical engineer and using computers from MainFrame times. So, duirng my childhood I always see computers arround me. This is the first reason I fall in love with computers and programing.
I think I am using a computer since 3rd grade. Or mightbe erlier. doesn't remamber.1 -
So until now I ran bitwarden official docker image on my server but as I forgot to create snapshot before updating yesterday and the whole network got fucked up :D I installed bitwarden-rs (Rust implementation) instead... Aaand it is sooooo good! It takes only around 20MB of RAM instead of 1GB+ and it is just lightning fast. Also replaced Apache with nginx for the first time and I love it so far.5
-
Hello fellow devs, first post here but absolutely love this community!
Has anyone got advice for doing casual freelance work alongside a day job? I'm currently looking at sites like Fiverr and Upwork and would love to hear your advice/experiences/opinions.5 -
I'm a physics student who have problem with the "theory without every application (even theoretical)" approach of my university. I'm at the second year. The year is near to end i will pass at the first year of Informatic Engineering, one of my real True love who took from me a lot of time. I don't know what will happen... But Electronics and Informatics are my True love. I hope it's not too late...2

My first dev job started by doing a change across a bash, perl and python script, where I got hired for C++. Now I'm full time python and I love it.

Fuck.
I've just seen work offer in my city for junior unity developer. I'd love to work as a game dev (and currently am finishing my first "real" game in this engine) but I feel too anxious to send my CV.
Also for some weird reason I feel attachment and loyalty to my current employer, even though I'm more often pissed about working there than not. Stockholm Syndrome?3 -
What do you guys think is the best method to teach juniors web dev? What are some things that would make you love a uni class and learn it?
I am teaching web dev and I find it very hard to engage all the students as almost half of them are not interested and I think they see the class too difficult(web basics?!). This is my first class teaching and I want to gather some feedback here and implement it in my class.
So, basically let me know of anything that makes you love and hate abclass because of the teacher's methodology. Thanks a lot3 -
Hi everyone, I just published my first blog post and would love to hear comments. Thanks in advance.

Need some advice:
I got a job offer which I would love to start ASAP. However.. I have a 2 hospital dates one, 4th April and the other 13th May.
I am not sure what to tell the company. Should I be honest and say I got these 2 dates that I need to day off..or tell them about my first appointment and then later on in April tell them my appointment for May?
(This is my first job offer after graduation and I do not want the offer to then go away because if this..)4 -
I hate windows, the fucking constant updates and restarts as soon as I start working.
I have been wanting to make the change for a while now but I would like to ask the community first, which Linux distro should I start with? I understand most basic bash commands and am fine navigating the command line, but would love to hear people's opinions. Thanks!6 -
Gotta love when you come across an interesting piece of software with a modern, sleek, and snazzy homepage. Then you press "Sign up" and are redirected to an ancient 90's web app whose first element after the body is a table.

My first project was a pacman game made with AS1 in flash 6, I learned a lot and it made me appreciate debuggers, proper programming languages and to love making games, however that game was unbeatable thanks to ghosts having the same speed as pacman and using path finding algorithm with no error margin so they always catch you!1
-
The integration of technologies project I have this year. Not yet finished but I already learned a lot of very cool stuff.
First, I learned a new programming language + framework (Ruby on Rails)
Second, for the first time, I implemented a continuous deployment pipeline with Capistrano and Travis ci.
Third, first time I programmed a Restful API.
And more cool stuff coming up ! :D
I freaking love learning ! -
I love to hack stuff. And the first time I did change some code and had a behavioral change in the game WAS AWESOME.
I can create stuff.
I'm a fucking practitioner of tech voodoo, a computer whisperer!! Awesome! -

Just installed Atom to try out. Has a decent package ecosystem. Just found vim-mode-plus. Do you believe in love at first sight? 😉1 -
I have a list of favorites but the first person that always usually comes to mind is John Romero.
I love listening to the talks Romero gives and even though I don’t partake in the practice of developing games I still love hearing his stories about his projects development or having to work with old/retro tech and learn something from those stories. -
our office software has the shittiest documentation. no problem! i love to browse all the subfolders to find where to place a serial letter template! why would someone want to do this in the first place?
if someone working in the german medical field: i can not recommend eva/viva for some other reasons as well. -

I made an android game a while back based on mental math, memory and quick reactions. This is the first game I actually finished and published so I would love some feedback from people that actually know what they're doing. Made in Unity with C#.

First two days in a new job.
It's pretty good. I love the fact that I don't have to work alone. I've got a temporary workstation since we are replacing laptops next month. It's shit and Unity is lagging, but I'll manage.
So yeah, life's good currently. I wonder how long will it take to become shitty again.5 -
Started a new freelance contract.
Invited and joined slack channel.
Introduced to the PM.
PM hates me from the first second for no reason.
Doubts anything I say, he has doubt in me.
Something tells me I won't love that arogant PM too 😆 -
Somehow I found Rousseau's the social contract.
I'm early into it since you know fucking chomo faggots with no balls keep screwing the world up trying to steal real peoles personalities and make them queer which eventually will lead to a generation that murders them being bred.
Anyway I found a love phrase.
Slaves loose everything in their chains even the desire of escaping them.
He continues.
Force made the first slaves, cowardice perpetuated the condition.
In short
The world being full of cocksucking perverse house niggers that love the taste of table scraps is the problem of the free man whose life is being devoured by scum like tosensei5 -
Guys it's stupid but how do you get motivated for coding ? I'm actually learning C++, it's my first programming language but it's hard to continue, I love coding and making games but I'm a real newbie and I'm 90% of the time completely lost, I've made 1 shitty game but it's from a tutorial, and for c++ I'm still stuck with overloaded operator.
I'm sorry for my awful english but it's not my mother tongue. Do you have something advices ? For example stopping completely playing videogame ? Thx ;)6 -
first day back at work after six months of educational leave. I love and mossed my team but damn, I could already use another six months of sleeping out.

Programmer lesson #2
First laptop is just like first love...No matter how many others come later...It will always have a special place in our ❤️2 -
First month at my first dev job and I already don’t know if this is what I want. My boss keeps touching the code without me even being present, so when I arrive I don’t know what’s even happening. Getting texts from him at 4am doesn’t sound very healthy either. Is it all the same? Are dev people supposed to not have a life and work 24/7 for a company? Maybe I’m just wrong about my career choice. But I used to love coding before the job. Now it’s just a fucked up thing where I wake up wishing my boss didn’t text me or refactored half of the code in one stand.1

Question for all the full stack developers out here: which do you start coding first: the backend or the frontend?
PS: It's my first time posting, I love devRant's vibes!9 -
Recently I've finally finished my first game in Unity3D <3 But I'm self-taught and it's probably not really well-made. I'd love to show code to someone with real experience but I don't have any friends in game dev -.-
Does anyone know where I could get some kind of code review (for free would be great, since I won't earn a penny from this game)?
Shameless plug for anyone interested:

I frikin' love updating Gitlab, every time I do, I feel a sense of dread that some part of the process breaks and I will have to dive head first into the huge thing, with almost no knowledge of how the internals work!

The devRant avatar builder should mos def offer loot boxes. I am nearly able to blow my first century on a new shirt or the duck. If a random loot box at 500 gave me the 1/1000 chance to get the white tiger, I would do it. Yes statistically if the model was driven like a slot game I would get the shirt or the duck anyway. But imagine the excitement, the fists slamming down on tables, the expletives. Passion like that leads to love. There is no love in choosing between the shirt and the duck.4

About to get my first official freelance job. Any pitfalls or things I should do? CYA tips? Determining price? Would love to hear what others thing.4

I was thinking about my PhD as I will get my bachelor's degree this semester.
I was searching for top universities for cybersecurity PhD.
Sure I will have to get my master first
But what is your suggestion for PhD?
I am currently in love with Berlin university but not sure if it's a right choice.1 -
Not sure why people love mechanical keyboards so much? Maybe they aren't old enough to remember the first time they were cool!
The world has moved on! :)1 -

I used parse-server and services back when it was a web service at an internship, just loved the way it did things it did. Backend as a service was new to me as a mobile application developer. 5 years down the lane. My first go-to backend is Parse. I know firebase does XYZ things better. But I love the simplicity and openness of parse.
Community picked up parse as a self hosted open source service and its still going strong.
Just love the possibility of starting a mobile project and not having to worry about setting up a whole web service to cater to it.
