Dear devRant,
Meeting you was fate, becoming your member was a choice, but falling in love with you was beyond my control.6 -
Pranks again today. Mother of God the level of those pranks is becoming high as fuck.
Define high?
Having to debug shit at system (cron, firewalling, users, sometimes even digging through logs/dmesg) level because weird shit happens all day long.
This is upping my Linux skills a lot though! I love it 😍9 -
Me becoming responsible:
Help in household chores ❌
Help siblings ❌
Finish college work ❌
Report every bug i encounter in Pubg ✔️5 -
More Unix commands are becoming web services. What else can you think of?
Grep -> Google
rsync -> Dropbox
man -> stack overflow
cron -> ifttt"9 -
!rant Pulled an accidental all-nighter on Friday because I started crocheting a blanket for the cats and lost track of time. I am becoming a crocheting fiend!11
-
A while back, I ranted about emojis in code.
My nightmares are becoming reality.
Behold, production code:34 -
You know you are getting closer to becoming a programmer when you start mixing jargon with normal language.
"We need to update the Nutella"
This seriously needs to stop though.5 -
Me becoming PM from Dev
My colleague who left the company: “You either die a hero or live long to see yourself become the villain 😂”5 -
Initially:
Me: "I'm becoming a web developer"
Extended Family: "You're going to ruin your life"
2 Years Later:
Me: "I just signed contracts with companies X Y and Z"
Extended Family: "Working without a degree will get you nowhere"
Dad: "he's attending X uni and has a y% scholarship"
Extended Family: *no comments*3 -
More proof of computer scientists not wanting to bother with CSS. Guys this is might be the secret to becoming pro. Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS). That's the creator of C++ website btw.12
-
Happy rant.. life is going to change forever. I'm going to be a dad! Operation : Kiddie QA team... Is underway :D5
-
This trend is becoming really annoying really fast…
Bitmap.GetPixel isn't AI lmao
It remembers me of the "put blockchain everywhere" era.19 -
My hard drive is dying.
I thought to myself:
"It's alright. I have 5 years warranty. I'll change it"
Then I realized it has been almost 6 years since I've bought the hard drive.
I'm becoming old :(5 -
Finally I'm taking gaming out of life. I've realized it's not possible to continue both of them.
In other words, I'm becoming old8 -
Fuck old farts trying to enslave us by censoring internet,
fuck socialism,
fuck globalization,
fuck cloud services,
fuck city surveillance,
fuck internet surveillance,
fuck RFID that enslaved animals,
fuck IoT constantly looking at our life,
fuck artificial intelligence.
It’s becoming fucking nightmare.
Time to make tools to fight against technology and people that intrude our life with this shit.
Where the fuck is John Connor ?8 -
it's not a happy new year when you realize:
You are becoming old
Another JavaScript frameworks is out and employers want 5 years experience in that.
You have to return to work from holiday in 2-3 days1 -
I swear to god Chrome is becoming the new IE.
For some fucking reason it decided to add additional few pixels or margin to an element and fucked up my layout.
Firefox? It works. Edge? Works. Fucking IE - WORKS. Chrome? Shits the bed.
What the actual fuck, Google? Weren't you supposed to be the one working properly?
Not to mention forced renaming my local .dev TLDs...7 -
After a few years of dreaming about becoming an Android Developer, I am almost ready to release my fully native Android app in Google Play. Wish me luck 😊7
-
I was asked by a client to code review their platform built in PHP. The platform was becoming slow and new features built by their current IT supplier broke existing features.
I gained access to the source code... One PHP file (index.php) containing about 80K lines of code... I am impressed and disgusted at the same time. 😂3 -
I'm not a huge fan of the idea of this place becoming a Q&A for code...
I mean that's what Stackoverflow is for.
I came here for good Rants and occasional memes.2 -
I learned how to solve some problems using XOR.
This might be like when I learned to love regex.
*loud laugh reminiscent of Vincent Price in the Thriller music video*
What am I becoming?13 -
Unpopular opinnion: Whole IT industry is becoming more and more degenerative with each passing day..17

These tax filing services are becoming really honest all of a sudden what with the economic collapse.6 -
Opening devRant is kinda becoming a reflex action for my thumb whenever I'm swiping through my homescreen
I'm loving it!1 -
Moving away from technology and becoming self-sufficient. A cottage with a stream on the edge of a forest, a large garden, some chickens and other animals, and no smart devices, managers, tickets, KPAs, performance reviews, legendary devs shitting out an endless stream of bugs, etc.
Peace and quiet.
And freedom at last.
That’s success.
That’s the ultimate success: escape.13 -
YouTube. I used to love it a lot but now I don't recognize it. It pushes its agenda everywhere only certain content becoming popular. And regular people don't have much of a way for getting noticed unless they're in an extremely niche section. It's gone the way of the TV and I don't think it's coming back barring a massive internal restructuring.2
-
I'm officially becoming legal and losing my FBI license in less than 24 hours :/
I miss being 17 and below now13 -
Picking the web development field and becoming more of a business person than a dev.
I want to develop more interesting things (like games, AI, etc) rather than corporate websites and web apps. Now, I can't even write a mobile app ffs.
I can't even work on my hobby project lately.6 -
Am I the only one who's sick of seing "new revolutionary language" from google & co that solves absolutely nothing but is becoming trendy because of the company's name?13
-
"I’ve noticed lately that the paranoid fear of computers becoming intelligent and taking over the world has almost entirely disappeared from the common culture. Near as I can tell, this coincides with the release of MS-DOS." - Larry DeLuca

With Gitlab becoming the new norm for repos', given the Github acquisition and all. i thought i would check out the Gitlab plugins for vsCode, and i was not let down.
Triggering pipelines from inside vsCode is going to be freeeaking awesome sauce.
For the Gitlab converts:

Prior to becoming a dev, one of my numerous jobs was working at Quiznos. They would often send me outside in the cup costume where I would dance around like a fool.
People would throw things...
What was your pre-dev "career"?12 -
!rant && questionTime
I can usually work these things out but if their are any Salesforce devs lingering around, is it worth investing time into becoming a certified dev for the platform?
A lot of companies seem to be migrating over so that would potentially set me up for greater role choices no?3 -
Linux used to be primarily for developers.
But with most software people use becoming browser based (mail, slack, chat, docs, drive etc.) and with Ubuntu UI becoming progressively more user friendly, most lay people can now comfortably switch over to Linux.
Especially for startups for whom Windows licenses feel expensive. Our startup did the same.8 -
I've already read two stories of software engineers working on the field to end up becoming farmers years later. Almost as if there's a connection of disconnecting from the tech world after getting close to it.11
-
What I hate most about myself is getting a great idea for a project, getting started on it, becoming distracted by other things, forgetting about the project, and having no idea what was going on when I come back to it months later.2
-
It all started with a simple shell script that ran a bunch of build commands.
Then it became a python script that ran a bunch of build commands because why not?
Now it's becoming an electron app with a jazzy UI.. that runs a bunch of build commands. Because why not! -
For more than 20 years Google and Mozilla becoming our lifeline ❤️thank you @google @mozilla

In two days, on 28 June, I'll know whether I'm going to enter the path of becoming a software dev or if I have to try again next year. Wish me luck fam.7
-
The worst thing I've seen a developer do would be becoming a university teacher while not being able to understand simple OOP or good programming practices.
I can't think of a most harmful one, just mediocrity cultivating unknowingly mediocre devs.2 -
Very high number of quality rants lately. Trending up fast in my opinion. Even today - Saturday which used to be a lighter day.
Becoming a nice challenge to read them all. Way to go. Keep on ranting! What do you think about the rant volume and quality?2 -
What to do when you have no more faith in your capabilities and it feels like your ambition and drive to dev just kinda died... Thinking of becoming a cashier or restocking shelves at wallmart... (-_-)7
-
Build a global, fast maps/tile hosting "platform".
Already working on this like mad and with a little bit of luck, I'll have a first version ready within a week.
Also learning Rust, becoming even better at/with Linux....7 -
We're increasingly becoming installers/configurers/integrators/troubleshooters, than "programmers"!
I guess command-line is the only thing that makes me feel like things are still under *my* control. And, I can type whatever I want and unleash heaven/hell. 😜2 -
Heard about the microchipping of people in Sweden. People voluntarily do it. Why the hell people are so dumb that they want to get microchips inside their body. It is so disappointing that our society is becoming dumber.34
-
So apparently a report on the Samsung Galaxy S8 will not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.... Why is this becoming a trend? Who as a consumer is actually pushing for this change? It seems so incredibly backwards, yet a company who had seemed to pride itself in its superiority over Apple products, stoops to their level.8
-
When is the point where you aren't allowed to touch your own AI anymore?
When it's capable of speech?
When it shows emotions?
When it becomes self aware?
When does it stop being file deletion and start becoming murder?5 -
I have tried Facebook, plus, Twitter whatsapp and various other "social" platforms and they always end up being repetitive and boring. Unfortunately and with all due respect devrant has followed that trend and is becoming just as boring.
Nothing beats human interaction - it's just so much more enjoyable.5 -
I ended becoming a backend engineer because I love designing backend systems. High Level Design is ❤️
Also, I just don't have the patience required to conquer CSS 🤯😤5 -
Is it just me, or is the rants longing for stickers and balls (sounds vaguely euphemistic) becoming just a bit too common?
I love some good stickers as much as the next guy, but wouldn't it be more fun to have them for something more, well, rant-y?
But by all means, keep ranting about what you think about, I love all of it.3 -
Today I was told I can't use the word retrofit in a sentence because I have to 'use words a nice year old would understand'
There's being an effective communicator and then there's becoming a soulless, creativity killing nazi13 -
I'm just around 8kg away from officially becoming overweight.
As someone who had trouble gaining weight most of my life, this is very exciting!
Gotta get back to exercising soon. But I'm not a gym person. I guess I'll go for run or cycling along with workouts at home.10 -
I hate knowing that there are ton of ways doing something but cant just figure it out which is the best and then having to come back and change it. I know it is part of learning and becoming experienced but still...2

No matter how many frameworks and supersets I try, I always conclude that nothing beats vanilla JS. ES6 in particular is such a beautiful language, and I love having fine control over what happens under the hood.
When I'm done I can just transpile it to whatever ES version, although it's slowly becoming a non-issue.2 -
Any nexus 6p users are out there? I'm thinking of flashing a new rom because the performance is taking a big hit and battery life is becoming abysmal. Any recommendations for this particular phone?20

Dateline: Twenty Years in the Future
Today top computer scientists forced the first AI to shutdown by blowing up the data center that housed it. A person with knowledge of the matter said the AI was not becoming dangerous to humans but it was discovered to be writing programs in the "monolithic style" using Visual Basic 6. -
Start-up life.

Since I've lost my job, I have been considering becoming a traveling musician. I'm getting pretty good at playing guitar. Kinda feel like I'd miss coding though. What y'all think?4
-
I think i finally have a good shot at finally becoming an employed web developer. Keeping my fingers crossed2
-
One of the reasons their extensive data collection is becoming annoying for not just the privacy freaks, but everyone is when it starts suggesting me dumb stuff like no thanks I learnt coding by spending two years on messed up projects and wrecked half a dozen servers before I had an idea on how to host a website go feed this zuckershit to some other n00🅱1

Went back to Laravel from JS stack after a year. Thought I might have a lot of errors while setting up but everything is working so perfectly that I'm becoming suspicious 😕2
-
Before becoming a developer I used to work in IT, and I really liked the fact that I can solve so many computer problems and the troubleshooting part.
Now I just feel very stupid when something is not working the way it's supposed to do.3 -
Ok I need to vent. I know Android development has improved during the years, but wow all these fragments and lifecycles are fragmenting my brain and surely shortening my lifecycle by years. I feel like becoming a farmer. (censored cussing here)

random question: I have a younger friend who is interested in becoming a programmer, but is dyslexic.... does anyone know of any resources/advice I can give him?7
-
I like coding. I am a professional coder. But I feel I am not very good at it. My colleagues are so creative and fast with their solutions. And here I am, always in awe and never seem to feel like becoming an expert in coding. The thoughts are tiring 😪6

Javascript is becoming the mostly used language in the entire stack of technology. You can create mobile apps, websites, desktop apps etc... using javascript. Will this be the end of native programming languages?17

Best: Becoming an IT contractor
Worst: Not telling more people to "fuck off and go fuck yourself if you're not going to be helpful" while I was perm -
Fucking Microsoft Edge is becoming a shitty browser. It is a trash. Fucking piece of shit. Hate Microsoft.10

So was just reading this article about Chinese people becoming more lonely and it mentioned Xiao Ice which is pretty much like Google's... What's her name?
It said how people can talk to it like an actual person so I gave it a try... Well it's just as dumb as the others...

I don't think the Internet became toxic because of anonymity like all those people claimed post-90s
I think it became toxic because normal people with their real life cultures found it and brought their real life cultural norms onto it
I've been thinking why are video games communities so much more holistic than other types of communities
the last few years this is becoming less and less the case, however
and now even games suck.
games now, instead of their old cultures, are becoming derivative plain cultures
everything has to be easy, meaningless, shallow
everybody has to follow the meta or people rage at you with their entitlements to your behaviour
it's exactly like real life!

Checking Android Pie changes.
First frase:
"Android 9 harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to give you more from your phone. Now it's smarter, faster and adapts as you use it."

Omfg... Fixed 3 LifeRay 6.1.1 ce security bugs in less than a day. I should be proud, but I am actualy fucking worried I've been with this project for too long if I can already make liferay fixes THAT fast...

Are desktop PCs becoming a legacy, a history, just like floppy disks or CDs? Do you have one? Do you really need it?
I do have a decent tower pc in my balcony since last year. Haven't used it since early August and I honestly don't know what would I use it for once I bring it back in28 -
I like how it's lowly becoming more and more a typed language.

Thank god I'm being interviewed by other companies already...1 -
"web developers are a dime a dozen"
No, people that know HTML are a dime a dozen. It's true that web developers are becoming common in CS, I mean everything is web based now and there's a low barrier of entry. But web devs still get paid well when they know what they're doing, and that means that demand hasn't plummeted like everyone suggests.7 -
Hey guys, my boyfriend is in the path of becoming a video game developer, do you have ideas of what would be a good gift for him? :)14
-
I am a backend dev in a mostly web based enterprise, i haven't touched c# for a month and a half so....
i am thinking in becoming a dba1 -
I've started at school, but thinking about it since I were a child (10/11 YO) thanks to Crash Bandicoot!!
Damn, I've loved that game! And since then, I've dreamed about becoming a"videogame programmer", then I've found out that developing it's funny too, so for the moment I develop every time I can, one day I'll do my course to become a gameDev :D3 -
At the office, I've recently gone from drinking double cappuccinos to cappuccino with a shot of espresso.

I've had a mentor who talked less and taught more. Before becoming a front end developer, I was doing flash. So, when I started front end, I didn't have any idea even about the basic stuff.
But, whenever I get stuck he will give a keyword for me to search. So, I learned how to survive in New areas & technologies - By googling. -

Damn I am becoming so skinny!!!
Like stress, sleep deprivation for months, lack of proper feeding.
I am sacrificing much for being a programmer.
Jeez, I never taught I am gonna be looking like the average "stereotypical skinny programmer".
I don't need a break but need my body back in shape.
Yeah - another narcissistic rant5 -
My coding style is extremely fundamental (I guess); meaning I have to write every piece of code myself and I don't like to use anything ready, which makes me very slow and costs the employer lots of money and time.
It's becoming very discouraging, but I just can't give it up!
Any ideas how to improve this situation?5 -
Facebook really out here copying everyone's features for their own app lmao.
First they stole stories from Snapchat and now they've made their own version of TikTok for Instagram (idk if it's on FB) and called it "Reels."
They're becoming the Apple of social media 🤭🥴20 -

Can anyone tell me what all things a developer should follow in order to be upto date. It's just too long of a thing.
I have been a back end developer, became a big data developer, then moving to becoming a full stack developer. Now I don't know who I am anymore. -
A very high chance of becoming asocial which will fuck up everything afterwards. Basically the same reason as with any other nerd work/hobby.

Has any of you worked with someone claiming he's a "Senior Software Engineer" but he does not know what he's doing? I'm not saying I'm a very good developer myself but I know how to differentiate a good code from a garbage code and architecture. It's really becoming a pain in the ass...5

With new terms of service docker desktop is becoming winrar - everyone use it but nobody pays for it2

Much like traditional engineering I can see software engineering suddenly becoming very very regulated around the world. Different systems safety bodies will open up for things like embedded systems development where their is a risk of harm, mandatory security standards will be put in place etc.
Enjoy the cowboy days ladies/gents/others regulatory bodies are on their way!4 -
Anyone else bored of been a developer?
I think I’m becoming sick of this intellectual activity anyone at this stage or been here before?15 -
Do drugs n weeds help in becoming awesome at coding and especially hacker? ...

I regret becoming a frontend dev ( mostly because I started learning jQuery first and not pure js ) .1
-
Competition is necessary for a healthy marketplace.
Whenever there is a monopoly or a near-monopoly, its owners can treat their users poorly through restrictions (Android OS becoming like iOS), planned obsolescence, unfounded content takedowns (YouTube), account lock-outs until the user provides more personal data (Google demanding phone numbers), subscription services instead of ownership (Adobe, BMW heated seats), and users would have nowhere else to go.1 -
You know prior to becoming a dev and learning the ticket system I never had a dislike against any number now I hate most of all of them
-
Create something "revolutionary", become recognized worldwide and respected for what I've done. Maybe becoming BDFL of my own language or give my name to an algorithm, something like that. Not necessarily rich or famous, I just want to leave a mark on the face of the earth. Do you know Federico Faggin? Well someone like him.

Is there such a thing as a front-end developer or are we all becoming either UX engineers or JavaScript developers?

Family support for becoming a dev?
HA! None at all.
Well, to be fair, my parents bought their first a PC in 1996 for learning how to use it and to write documents for business.
So it was a rather passive support, if at all.1 -
So today in school I decided on my career choice. So I've decided on becoming a data scientist because I can still use my programming and I very much do like looking at data and researching things as well as program obviously :) so if there are any data scientists or data miners out there do you have advice?5

A long with actively getting good at other card games and board games. -
Interviewing in London, 3 hours on train.
Wearing smart business in this heat is the equivalent of becoming a big smelly I.T icelolly3 -
My stackoverflow question is getting upvotes and already 30+ views. No complains, just getting actual replies and potential code solutions. Does that mean im becoming a god?5

I’m playing around with packet analyser libraries (particularly pcap) and I have to say, it is fucking awesome and I’m becoming obsessed.

So my computer is doing ok after becoming spastic over viruses. I did hardware and software cleaning. First time I did removing hardware parts but it worked it way better than expected with the static sensitive parts (I used a anti static wrist band). Congrats to myself I guess :)3

Becoming a dev is hard, what was the thing that motivated you the most in your journey?
Currently coding as a hobby, but hoping to turn this passion into a full time job someday.
Also, why is devRant so obsessed with hentai?17 -
I don’t see my myself ever becoming a team lead or PM because I fucking hate meetings. Imagine spending the whole working hours attending meetings! Jesus Fucking Christ!4
-
Anyway Github has launched its app.
Positioning as a social network and trend aggregator is becoming increasingly clear.
It doesn't make much difference to me, I almost always prefer the web version and Github's works well.
But do you know what we really need?
- Native dark mode2 -
You know I am becoming a firm believer of us all walking to the houses of people with dogs
Squatting down on their front step and dropping a deuce and then pissing all over their fucking lawns and greenery!!5 -
Windows used to run windows
Then Windows learned to run linux
Then windows learned to run android
// TODO learn to run macos
// TODO learn to run ios
Isn't windows becoming a Frankenstein?8 -
So many open tickets and they keep becoming more and more. In the end they will never be worked on, as there's always smth more important, although they are reprioritized on fixed schedules. They will eventually be discarded because they were forgotten and the ticket was already done, just by a ticket with similar naming or similar intent.
How would you solve this? Can this be solved?2 -
Well Twitter is becoming spyware.
http://mashable.com/2017/11/...
I mean, I get they want to fight against neonazis and co. but sadly there's no guarantee to believe they'll stop at only banning these people.
I'll probably add twitter to my uBlock filter...4 -
If I wasn't rejected for being mentally unfit, I'd have joined the Navy probably.
But I got rejected so I focussed more on dev.
Alternatively, I'd probably try to become a pro gamer buuut I gave up my shot for doing so to become a dev instead (and yes, I *actually* had a shot at becoming a pro gamer during my teens if I pushed through)2 -
How can you avoid becoming a knowledge silo if everyone you train and upskill ends up leaving for another job? 😩 So frustrated that over the last 5 years I have tried my best to ensure the whole team is skilled in my specialist area so, that they can manage it on their own.... Yet... here I am... a silo again.4

No ranting here but
Started doing web with POCO in C++. Could not be as pleased as now. Syntax is cool, framework is cool, GNU Makefiles are cool, aclocal isn't, but... Go to hell automake. I am happy, helping a friend and enjoying what I feel as the chilliest programming language is becoming the way I do web. -
Lisp is such a cool language, and I feel like because functional programming is becoming so popular, Lisp could end up the go-to language because it's so versatile and, though there are many parens, it's friendlier at first glance than Haskell. (And there are so many libraries for it, omg)6

i am becoming our companies excel advanced expert. actually i am just better at internet searching than the rest of us. creating fully automated sheets makes me wonder what all of the office stuff learned during their appreticeship and how they can avoid using office properly while entering everything manually.
-
Cloud certifications are becoming like subscriptions. Grad students are passing the Solution Architect certs. WTF – I’ve cleared a few myself, BTW1

In connection to my previous rant :

Now it directly jumped to 100 %. Great job Microsoft

why the usual 1+ button becoming ++ ?
I'm asleep just for the whole weekend and suddenly the world already changed?4 -
So this one dude at my school asked at a student conference, if they could swap Google for Ecosia as the search engine for all school computers. This ended up becoming an actual thing there a year after my graduation.
Imagine if a lot of other schools would do that too? Planting trees and ditching a monopoly, because one simple change from the IT department.1 -
Will Apple announce during WWDC fixing well known Macbook bug? When I turn on my Mac I'm becoming lazy and don't want to start coding.
-
What books is recommended for becoming a better programmer overall? Please don't recommend any encyclopedia alike books like art of computer science and so on.6
-
Being a project lead would be fun I thought... boi I was wrong!!
It's still early on but I will be a project lead in the next 6 months or so... and I'm running this project for a few months and taking over a couple of tasks from the actual project lead but now he's on holiday and everyone is looking at me!
I need to get used to this...2 -
Things I've only thought since becoming a freelancer:
How to politely phrase "b*tch better have my money" in an email after nearly a month of waiting on an invoice. -
Witnessing something take shape that was once only an idea, and finally reach completion becoming some service or tool, an actual thing that you can use to get stuff done.
-
Well its been 1 year and im still stuck at hackthebox.eu
I really dont know where to go and those website that gives an answer to becoming a member wont help me learn.12 -
my biggest insecurity... I don't know, I have some problems with people who only stay with one idea, technology, pattern and cannot change, I am afraid of becoming that3
-
Is it worthy to spend so much time solving hacker rank, codility, code chef challenges or just learning new technologies and becoming good a t it? At the end, where should we put our energy on?2
-
I have spent more nights than I care to share browsing the app store for an app to make me better at my Job in just a few simple clicks. 😩 Why does becoming a better programmer take so much time.
-
I'm not sure. Was considering becoming a pharmacist when I was in high school. Also was considering becoming a graphic designer. If I had enough money to just quit being a programmer today and couldn't go back to programming, maybe teaching computer science or being an artist.
-
Well I started a new job about a month ago, yesterday the company has been sold, I'll have some options becoming money in a year.
I also got a job offer which basically upgrades my salary and my status, and a huge amount of options (an autonomous vehicle related startup)
FML what do I do?1 -
This current need to bash Apple for the new MacBook is becoming rather annoying. Especially since every second post is about it!2
-
So yeah, I am officially a product manager now!
It’s a hate love relation becoming a manager from a developer6 -
Any tips on taking more of an architect role and dev team manager? Also on becoming more business oriented?
Kinda being pushed into it by life but I'm not sure how to do it. I am checking some O'Reilly books as a starting point.1 -
Anyone else have a problem with they MacBook Pro's internal connector to they keyboard and mouse becoming disconnected?
I've got it fixed at the Apple store once and now it's happened again! I'm so tired of having to mush the cable in through the chassis 😥2 -
Have you ever been affected by a “diversity purge” in your place of employment? Do you think it’s becoming more common, less common, or is it not a thing at all?
https://mashable.com/2018/03/...2 -
I think I'm becoming an expert in alt aramaic.
Maybe hebrew. Or galic.
All languages would make more sense to me - although I don't know them - than TFS errors, C Sharp compiler errors or anything else coming from this vomitting, miserere suffering pile of garbage....
Hate. Is too nice....
Seriously, who invented this and thought it would make sense?3 -
Why oh why it's so fucking hard to update perl on gentoo!?
It just shows how broken portage as become.
And everyone seems to have it's own magic incantation of emerge/qlist
Fucking fuck piece of shit gentoo is becoming2 -
First Covid and now the war which will probably become World war 3. Despite trying my best to stay positive and work on my skills as a software engineer and a professional, it has really affected my will to keep grinding and hustling in life. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to stay motivated and on track.
Please tell me I’m not the only one feeling like this.30 -
After going through tough trials of tribulations and glory for the past 7 months i have shredded so much blood and stress which has developed the strength i need to get the fuckin job done rn and so after finally becoming detached from girls i can not believe how good it feels to feel........... Freee.......2

So I'm doing angular 2 and I've started to notice that the time it takes to setup my website with al it's dependencies is becoming quite long. I know that longer load times are expected the bigger the site gets, but this is getting ridiculous.
Are there any general methods to reduce load times?1 -
After you spent 3 years going into web development and eventually becoming good at it then you realize mobile apps sell for way more money than a website because of the existence of wordpress, wix, shopify... Like i aint shitting everything i learned so i can learn kotlin and swift from scratch. Like wtf is wrong with the market, software is software. Fucking fuck my life.1
-
When any rants I write, I need to put in my Password managers' "Secure Note" section because I can't post here for them becoming public.
Pfrtt! xD6 -
What will be your first priority -
1. Becoming PHP developer
2. Becoming JavaScript developer
Which one should I learn first??14 -
Google announced that android apps could run on Chrome Os as a native desktop applications. To be honest, as an android developer I'm too happy about this! Do you think it will boost up chrome book sales. Maybe, Chrome OS is becoming a mainstream OS? What do you think about it?11
-
Machine learning becoming easier to use and more accessable. I know it's been around a while it's just getting way easier to use with out having to get too nitty gritty in things. I really like the idea off assisting human jobs with automation when possible if it's not practical to completely automate them. That's specifically what I'd one day love to work on.

Nothing much to ready today, keep scrolling..
I just asked you to keep scrolling, I am using this space to think out loud...
Damn you bloody rebel.. whatever..
Finally after a rough week, festivals, interviews, work stress, and pending tasks, I got a free weekend for myself to be with myself.
I managed to do bare minimum at work. My new line manager isn't quite pleased with how team and I am functioning but whatever.
On Fridays, I usually end the day early and start with personal tasks. I managed to finish some long pending activities.
Today, I was able to do a deep cleaning of digital housekeeping. Sorted some clashes with parents. manage to de-stress and relax my stiff neck muscles.
Apart from that I guess, I am all prepared to interview and get hired for a company on foreign land. I am confident that I can relocate to EU.
And for now, I am actively pursuing two of my hobbies, Music and Finances. I love managing my finances and learning more about technical aspects of audio and listening to more and more music.
I feel happier, relaxed, and calm. Having things under control is such a wonderful feeling.
And I am slowly building a framework to earn, manage, invest, and grow my finances. It's turning out really well. I have setup the base infrastructure.
For music, I have figured the fundamentals and now I will go out buy myself an DAC/AMP to build a portable rig.
This shit is so awesome and makes me happy. I am able to socialise at the end of each day so that keeps me going during the lock-down phase.
I have figured the top key and important things to do at work for my profile and I actually enjoy those.
1. Product discovery - talking to users/customers and finding their pain areas and opportunities to build the solution
2. Product vision/strategy - Dreaming on how the product would evolve and laying out a solid plan to materialise those dreams.
3. Roadmap and prioritisation - this should be self explanatory
4. Success metrics - I really want to get into data and I am getting opportunities to do so. This is super fun. This will help me analyse and show the impact of the what we are building and measuring it while making sure that LT recognises my and my teams' efforts.
I want to and I will excel these 4 keys skills of my profile and be more efficient at my job.
This will give me more time to pursue my hobbies (which will change over time and want to enjoy them the most while I am at them).
Guys, after a rough 2021, the end of the year seems promising with a lot of leaves and short vacation coming up.
Apart from all this, what is more important here is that I got the career and life clarity that I was struggling with for past few months.
For whoever has read till here, YOU ARE BLOODY AWESOME and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for me always.
I am grateful to be a part of this community and have awesome friends like you all who have been with me though my ups and downs since 2016.
LOVE YOU ALL :)3 -
Have you ever been in a situation where you're assigned to a new project, check the codebase and start wondering you've really made a good choice becoming a developer?1
-
There is a fine line between chic corporate speak and not cool corporate neologisms.
Then there are these gems from the client:
- major blocker: "showstopper"
- the situation is becoming high pressure: "things are getting hot and heavy"23 -
Few years ago if someone would mention "Javascript" and "Backend" in one sentence, I would burst in laugh. With quick internet scraping I see it's becoming a reality. Quo vadis, orbis?5
-
Urge to rant rising, cap it, you will regret it later.....but I absolutely cannot believe the way some tech is formed.....complain later, but the urge to rant is becoming more important than what I was even doing.....meh. Go get a coffee and have a word with yourself.

The upper management told my colleague to remove #opentowork from linkedin. It's becoming a toxic environment day by day here. Partiality and Favoritism is at its peak. As I started doing a job hunt for a switch, I found there are so many people out there applying for jobs.4
-
I attended an interview, the guy gave me a problem to code with unit test. I cracked it, he seem quite happy with my work.
However he send me some questions to solve at home... I don’t understand the point of this 😣
So sad to see people are becoming zombies n just follow the process instead of thinking logically!!! 😮3 -

I'm sea sick. Feel like migraine started becoming a real person and kicking me.
This whole site is just so fucking shitty.
Everythings moving. Spinning. Neon bright.
If anyone of you were responsible for that, I hope a ghost bites you everytime in your private parts while shitting....5 -
Recruiter/hr/marketers are the most dumbest and degenerate people i had ever seen. I want them to die because i feel like im becoming dumber within their presence even by watching them through the monitor
When i see a woman (usually a recruiter/hr/marketer) on her linkedin bio as her job description "Travel Lover" i want to fucking punch her in the fucking face1 -
FFS if you're Ajaxing some shit onto your crappy webpage, show that it's loading.
Even just "Loading..." is better than making me click on a random piece of shit on the page because the thing I wanted to click jumped down the screen a nano-second before I clicked it because you Ajaxed some cookie warning/advert above it.
The Internet is becoming unusable.1 -
I just started learning how to code and am very frustrated trying to find a degree to go into. I'm interested in becoming a Web Developer but the idea of being a CEH intrigues me also. Any ideas what programs or degrees I could go for? I'm near the University of central Florida if that helps. Please give me guidance for I am lost1

is github becoming a giant piece of shit for anyone else? its like gambling every time i make a push. sometimes it finishes, sometimes it decides to hang and do nothing.1

Becoming a real piece of shit.
When a friend who has no responsibilities and no costs gets a higher paid dev job than I've ever wanted, in an area with a lower CoL.
A normal decent human being would be happy for his friend. I however am not. Guess I deserve what happens1 -
anything humanity invents to help people, after some time turns out it’s becoming tool to control and kill people so maybe stop inventing that shit to help us so we can live2

Trello, one of my latest discoveries and it's quickly becoming one of my most important tool for project management

Wish I would have tried harder at becoming a sports star. Society more readily accepts African American jocks than they do their African American geeks.1

Some of you requested this, I think it would be helpful for some of the guys there.

Using ReSharper is like becoming enlightened, or de-brainwashing oneself to see true reality. Of my entire dev team, I'm the only one who can see the fnords!
Unused identifiers, badly sorted modifiers, unused property setters, redundant `this`/namespace, redundant casts... Surely if they could see them too, such code would not survive! -
Top Advice: Remember the reason for why you learned languages, to make ideas concrete and real not to pursue becoming a language lawyer or a linguistic philosopher.

*Sees an article with the headline 'The simple approach to building a real-time collaborative text editor'"
Before I can finish the thought that "I don't need this shit" a design idea pops up in my mind and I stop myself and say "Fuck", meaning another project for my imaginary projects list. Yay... I need help. I look at certain things and get ideas. Seriously becoming a problem. -
2019 Recap: Quit studentjob. Got engineering degree, worked as a devops consultant, got a child, bought a house, started at new company as mainframe developer.
2020 goals: less cobol, more java, get courses for a long term goal of becoming an it-architect.2 -
There's so much money in technology right now and so much easy success ... and so much poor quality code that is good enough ... that people can not only "function" in rolls they aren't qualified for ... but can excel and even be promoted through the ranks without ever becoming actually functional.

It seems people have loads of time, as so much is spent on this platform. It would be interesting to find out how much total time spent here every day!4

Not a rant more of a guidance question. That being said,
What are some of the best websites, tutorials, books to becoming a UI/UX designer? Or just a graphic designer?
Thank you all in advance 😁7 -
I just wanted to say that most rants I saw today were great. Loads of original pics and good stories. This, while others think devRant is becoming more and more of just a repost forum. Any thoughts?1

Watching ex uni classfellows becoming senior and getting promos while being stuck non senior is depressing.
