My friend called me up once saying the new mouse he bought to use with his laptop wasn't working.
I told him to just plug it into the usb port and it should just work immediately.
After an hour of trying shitload of things I finally gave up and said I'll come over and have a look.
And there was his mouse.
Connected to a phone charger.
To a wall outlet.14 -
Mother (working in recruitment): "What's the difference between JavaScript and Java?"
Me: "I'm glad you finally asked that..."10 -
Hey everyone! Huge apologies for the the delay on this - devRant++ is finally working on iOS! For anyone who tries it please let me know if you have any issues and I'm happy to help solve.
Thanks to everyone who has helped us out so far, we really appreciate the great response and have more cool things coming soon, non-devRant++ things and devRant++ things, so stay tuned!16 -
And finally its setup... Working well with four.. hopefully would convert it to 1x4 instead of 2x2....22

I finally got it working! Now I have a foundation for a kernel and an uefi bootloader written in pure Rust
Today was a good day :)22 -
Finally got a 200 response back from the server! Woo!
I've spent two days trying to get this to work (see my earlier rant). but yay! finally working!
So I log the response body just to revel in its lovely glow.... only to notice an error message saying "INVALID_INPUT".
WHAT THE CRAP.
200 FOR AN ERROR RESPONSE?
COME ON.4 -
Finally finished all the current issues and tasks I had set out to accomplish before the holiday began.

"No, I actually just fin-"
"Good, I think now would be a good time for you to redesign our entire intranet."
"Haha. Yes."3 -
Half a week later I finally found out why my DNS server "wasn't working" on any of my servers.
Let's just say that MullVad's anti-dns leaking technology works extremely well.
It was tunneling all DNS requests through its own servers to prevent DNS leaks and I never thought of it a single fucking time!
😅4 -
After working as a developer for 4-5 years I finally took up school again.
The teacher at our first programming course insisted that we named all our variables in our locale language (swedish) and always started arrays at index 1.18 -
So there's this annoying colleague who loves to call me (My work phone) at 3 am, so I decided to adjust some settings to forward the calls to the CEO.
aha!! , in the meeting CEO point it out, and yes, finally company set a rule that no work calls after working hours....13 -
Had devRant installed for a while now and finally have something worth sharing.
This happened in my last Python lab at uni:
Me: *Working away at this week's assignment*
Dude next to me: You know last week's assignment?
Me: Yes?
Dude: Did you test you solutions to the exercises?
Me: Yes
Dude: Oh, I didn't. Do you think I'll lose marks?
Me: Yes
I can only hope I'm not forced to work with this guy on group assignments...10 -
Today is finally the day of my hackathon, have been working with my team for about a month on a personal assistant already. I think we may stand a chance to get in the finals this year, unlike last year, when we started working only on the day of the hackathon.3
-
"Why is this not working, it was working before!!??😤"
--finally fix problem--
"How the hell was it working before??"2 -
When you just finished watching Google IO and they presented lots of super cool machine learning powered stuff...
... And suddenly, what you've been working on just few hours before, feels like:
"Yay! Finally this button is changing the color of this text!"1 -

I just wanted to tell you guys:
That after a month or so working on a spaghetti pile of codes, our team finally decided to study and use Git for our project.
I'm so happy right now 🎉2 -
I'm a f****** idiot. Wifi adapter stopped working, I rebooted. I reinstall my distro. I look up for a replacement card. I troubleshoot the issue in software.
Finally someone says something one of the fourms.
I hit Fn + F2
It fucking works!!! The hardware was disabled by accident when I tried to open tty2.
FUCK!!!4 -
Dev related: To actually finish my projects instead of working on different ones, and end up finishing nothing.
I said I was going to create my own operating system. I started it, but barely. I haven't touched the compiler I was working on for months. Oh, and I'm working on an android app related to writing. I started it a while back, and never got to finish it.
My need to stop starting new projects, because if I keep doing this, I'll never finish anything.
Non dev related: To get my manuscript out of the slush pile, and finally published. It's currently in the dreadful querying process.4 -
Been working on a bug fix for 3 hours. Literally nothing I do will fix it. Finally I realize I'm not even calling the function.5

In the distant year of 2022.
Safari changes its logo to more appropriately reflect its position as the new Internet Explorer.
Chrome monopolized the spyware market and is facing another antitrust investigation.
Mozilla finally managed to fire all the developers working on Firefox and replaced them with highly trained dead monkeys.
Brave successfully consolidates itself as a cryptocurrency wallet and leaves the browser space.
Edge has two new users.
Who the **** is Vivaldi8 -
After 3 years of working with Node.js, I have finally snapped
Node.js is cringe
I am .NET gang now15 -
After working over 14 years as it-systemadministrator and developer for a city government I finally quit today and switched into a start-up. Lower wage, vacation days and many more "downsides"...but I am allowed to follow my passion and create something that matters. I'm afraid and super jacked. Wish me luck :)
tl;dr quit job to get complete expression. afraid and jacked at once :)5 -
Ok, it’s been a loooong fucking day.
28 hours later from starting work yesterday, preparing for a giant deployment over multiple systems, Doing deployments overnight... on a Friday night of all days and finally, finally seeing everything working is just a beautiful thing.
Good night devRant!1 -
We got a prequalification letter from the bank finally, so: Surprise vacation!
Leaving tomorrow morning to look at houses! 😊 Yaaay! Maybe we can move out of this misery at last!
Working on the road tomorrow, Monday is a holiday, and I’m taking Tuesday off.

App nearing completion. Code tested, everything's working fine. Ready for release.
The client just calls me and tells me that they have decided to turn the app into two separate ones. Should not be a problem, you developers must have some tricks for that, according to the client. Of course, the release date remains unchanged.
Clients!, finally understand that there's no secret button for turning an app into two separate ones.5 -
I have been avoiding soldering for a long time and in turn avoiding hardware projects. Yesterday I finally went and bought a solder iron to start working on my mini desk weather station. My first ever soldering job. How did I do?9
-
Leave work with two working monitors at my desk, come back the next day to one monitor and a missing HDMI cable. Find out marketing took it for a presentation, don't get it back for three weeks. Finally get it back for a day, become super happy to finally have both monitors again. Come back the next day and PM has stolen my HDMI again, no extra HDMI cables in entire office. Apparently HDMI cables are valued like gold around these parts.10

Spent all day on this.
Debugging hardware is fucked man...
Me proud.
Wanted to make a devrant logo like always (its my Hello world to test my CNCs now).
And.... When I finally had the machine calibrated... The pen stopped working lol.
I'll just continue tomorrow, it's finished...
Probably gonna use a few times and make a bigger one.26 -
Spent 2 years slaving for a “start up” building not only the core framework but also handling clients, operations and logistics while being yelled at constantly for not delivering even though I was clearly over worked.
Once it finally hit my head that none of this was my mistake, quit, took a few months off and started working as a freelancer for no code development platforms.
Have been working with multiple amazing clients for more than a year now who understand and appreciate the work I do.2 -
Finally got my Hackintosh working. Took me fuckin 3 days to figure out how to get the sound working lmao22
-
Been struggling with this problem the whole day without success.
Finally finds the exact question in SO from 2014.
Answer: "Here is a working sample of my solution [link]".

Java script is like an angry girlfriend who won't tell you what is wrong.
This shit happened today.
Me: somearray.includes[stuff];
JS: I'm alright everything is fine.
Me: no it's not, Clearly the feature is not working.
JS:* silence*
Me: Fine be that way.. * spends lot of time debugging finally finds the issue*...oh shit.

JS: I SAID NO TRAILING SPACE IN END OF THE LINE YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT NO TRAILING FUCKING SPACES AAAAHHHH!!!7 -
>1 year of living and working with a sluggish, overheating and possibly throttling XPS 15.
Finally setting aside 20 minutes to pop the panel off, ripping the fans out and blow out the choking cakes of dust.
It's like new again now. FFS, when will I learn not to postpone things eternally.9 -
After four months of working alone, finally got another developer at work. Unfortunately they hired him as my boss. He came to me yesterday with a new project and told me to drop everything I'm working on for it. I asked him the timeline for it, a week. Why. Why the fuck. Go fuck yourself.16
-
Dad called me over for "tech support". He'd bought a wireless mouse and keyboard and couldn't for the life of him get it working. The issue with my dad is that he never lets you touch the computer when he needs help. 20 minutes and 20 questions later, I finally ask if he plugged in the USB receiver. Answer? "It's wireless, it should just... work!"2
-
First (working) attempts at writing a proxy that rewrites live requests from the devrant app, right now it only rewrites all notifications to be unread
Though the first attempt that finally works is built with mitmproxy and it's add-on scripting, plan is to get that stuff work with e.g. goproxy instead37 -
After spending hours with one problem and when you finally get it working:
1. Yei it works!
2. What? Why does it work?
3. WTF did I just do to get it working?
4. - >Coffee2 -
I finally stopped being lazy and wrote 31 unit tests for my Discord bot.
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing them all pass and the GitHub workflow working without any problems. :)8 -
Finally resigned.
I didn't hate my work but I need to grow. I was 4 years experienced and I was working on entry level positions. That's because for getting promoted I need to work like I'm on the next level for a year consistently, I don't know if I was working on next level but I felt confident that I can, so I switched companies finally. I don't know if work will be a lot what will I do but I have enough hard skills, my soft skills might not be that good but I'm finally doing something to achieve growth in that area. I'll be scared, anxious, helpless and all but let it be. I'll sprint, rest and repeat.8 -
So, the company I’m working for is finally merging with its sister company. That means budget for upgrading our infrastructure. And guess who volunteered to be in charge of it, and future sysops. That’s me.
Previously we haven’t had anything close to a sysops, and our servers has been neglected and never updated nor upgraded since 2012. We even had a Windows Server 2012 running with rdp wide open...2 -
Tried installing docker on windows today (for an experiment) and after it finally installs and goes to start up i get the hyper-v required, installing will prevent virtualbox from working.
Yea... FUCK NO! There goes that idea 😡3 -
I was working on a very database heavy PHP app about six months ago. All database access was done directly, with hardcoded SQL strings.
I'd suggested switching over to an ORM during the upcoming major verson's rewrite, and FINALLY got approval to start integrating one.
The next week I'm told that I need to trash all the code I'd just written, since the decision to use an orm has been reversed.
The rationale? According to management, ORMs aren't "scalable enough for our application" and would "reduce developer productivity". I pointed out that we would be processing ~10 concurrent operations, maximum; I was told that the technically details didn't matter and the person I was working under had the final say because they'd worked at IBM, briefly, as an intern.
I stopped working on that project about two weeks later, thankfully.15 -

To all my fellow developers, hackers and programmers. Can't we all come together to agree that... Finally pushing that big update you have been working and struggling on for so long... is one of the most satisfying feelings ever! <3 -
When you finally get to use that tensorflow side project you've been working on for a while to solve a real world problem and your boss wants to know how it works.3
-
Yaay, after several hours of tinkering I finally got a simple chat over TCP working in rust. I'm happy, I like rust :)15
-
my colleague was ordered to the site of a customer who had claimed that our software was a total bunch of crap and nothing was working. they had created a list with something 100 bullet points of the bugs they had found in our software that made it impossible to work with. since their production was relying on it they were really pissed off. after a very uncomfortable meeting where they angrily disclosed the situation, finally he got access to the system they were working with. after a few minutes he found that the system's GPU and hard disk drivers were totally outdated and devices weren't even working correctly. after he had updated all drivers, our software worked perfectly fine. at least the customers were kind of embarrassed afterwards... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯6
-
Swithced to Ubuntu, this is my first ever OS outside of windows. Man I am loving this shit.
Bought my laptop with windows 8, was working like charm and then came windows 10, I updated it and it was working fine untill they started releasing the patch updates. My laptop became slow as fuck, taking forever to boot and bitch was I afraid to connect to my wifi fearing the background data consumption and the antivirus clogging the ram.
I am free now, I am finally free. I am ready suck the developer's dick just to please him for this masterpiece and helping me get out of this misery.19 -
I remember working as a waiter and stumbling upon devRant. More then a year after, I'm finally working as a developer, and I'm still on devrant.1
-
Working hard on project since last 5 months.
Resolving issues and mainly frustrated from client epic feedback on the project...
Finally got message from client that “Yes, We can go for the Distribution “
And my reaction:2 -
Finally started working on learning React the other day. Seeing raw HTML outside of quotes being treated as valid JS code is...unsettling, to say the least.6

hey google, make my life harder. let's have an SDK version, then a corresponding android version, and finally a clown name like cotton candy or oreo or whatever so I always know exactly what version I'm working with without confusion 🙄🤡1

Working on my Google Foo Bar level 4 challenge.
9 days past figuring out how to solve this problem..
And finally reached on a working solution. When started compiling my solution.

Just 5 days left to complete.. And i have no idea what should i do...

Finally got a job I see myself staying in more than 2 years :) A boss that give us time to write / read blog posts.
Flexible work life.
Working with all the new stuff like dotnet core, docker :) -
My first job was when I started my apprenticeship in 2012 - I was really shy, 15 years old and couldn't talk to strangers. So couldn't the guy who started the apprenticeship with me. We've got a simple contact form to program, he did the php part, I did the html part. We were supposed to talk together but we both didn't so it was pretty enerving for our boss lol. After three years we finally started to talk and we are still working together for the same boss, even after the apprenticeship - I think he's happy that we are finally talking lol

I spent two weeks writing a WordPress plugin to take some form data, process it through another website, and take the result to Salesforce. the client had a "Salesforce specialist" doing everything on the Salesforce side and refused to give me access to see if the data was properly pushed through.
Finally I got it in working condition when suddenly it stopped working, I hadn't changed anything since it worked so I asked if he could have possibly changed something. We argued for over 4 hours about who changed something, the whole time I was looking for the error in my code. At 6pm I finally told him I would need to take a look at it tomorrow.
Overnight he sent me an email:
"Hey, sorry about the confusion yesterday, I set Salesforce to deny duplicate email entries, looks like once I removed that everything is working."6 -
After like half of a year crunch, when I was working 10-12 hours a day and no one was paying for overtime I was finally moved to next project. We are working in a field where everyone is completely new to it, except me BUT I didn't admit to that. I complete tasks faster while taking remaining time back!
-
I've been working on a proof of concept for my thesis for a few days and the async query calls drove me nuts for quite a while. I finally managed to deliver all query results asynchronously while still very much relying on a strong architectural design pattern. I am filled with caffeine, joy and a sense of pride and accomplishment.rant late night coding caffeine async await query proof of concept javascript boilerplate database typescript1

I've been working my ass off making websites finally made money and my brother goes and spends it all on more computers 😔5

While working on generic enterprise code: querying databases, calling third-party APIs and just passing data around, I'm thinking: "PLEASE LET ME DO SOME THINKING, LET ME WORK ON SOME HARD ALGORITHM OR SOMETHING!"
When finally working on 'some hard algorithm or something', I'm thinking: "ARGH! MY HEAD ACHES! GIVE ME RELEASE! LET ME WORK ON SOME MINDLESS ENTERPRISE CODE!"1 -
Roblox has come a long way. Been working on what started as a small project and now its been about 2 years and its finally coming together! As roblox still has ways to go to make it easier on developers. I cant wait to move to unreal engine and make somthing great!24

What I say:
Ah shit man! Spring break! Finally gonna be able to continue working on my personal project. Study, catch up with some books and tv shows while continuing to code!
What my wife hears:
Oh cool! Now I have someone to drive all around town getting me useless shit that I don't need while I am at work!!!

I know I overpaid but I couldnt fkin stand working on windows anymore. I spent one year with fcking windows building android apps. Making apps on windows is fking impossible. And dont even get me started on new crap macbooks starting from 2016 :/19

$category = 'Story';
Holy shit it finally worked I finally got a private server up and running for an old game, after countless forum posts and broken links (note the form isn't that active anymore since 2010)
After finding a working server source you also need a client with the same version
Even though this was a pet project, it feels good to finally complete it. I might even try to build some custom stuff into it6 -
Fffffff uuuuu regex!!!! :@........
*then I finally get it working*

The job market is lol
Graduated 9 months ago, working minimum wage jobs and applying to jobs, never getting an interview! I finally get a job in my field, and within my first week on the job I get calls for 4 interviews, all paying more than the job I took
On top of that my parents think my salary is way too low but beggars can't be choosers right4 -
Finally after working on programming languages and Data Structures for too long developing my first software with a GUI. In python. 😀😀😀
Though its only a calculator for now. 😅😅😅😅3 -

The whole summer of working 6 days a week at a dead end job, crazy hours, to tired to code or anything in the evenings, and feeling really depressed about everything.. Finally Monday, new semester in school is about to start. So eager to get back, to learn and have so many cool (hopefully) courses this semester. And it's only Saturday..1

1. downloaded the Ubuntu 16. 04 LTS and made bootable.

now after all this my system is working crazy fast.. Android studio is opening in just 5-6 seconds.

I love working from home. I finally feel I'm making progress and not just extinguishing fires and doing tech support for colleagues.
Maybe I should move to freelance work after this is over... -
That feeling of absolute joy, when something you've been working on for a loooong time, finally just works... THAT is the reason why I love what I'm doing
-
In a few hours, I will know if my PC is going to be finally working again (or if not). Wish me luck!10

I started working for a startup around 2 years ago, I literally helped them survive in covid, I worked my ass off for them. (I was getting good money so no complain there) but now after 2 years I started looking for better opportunities and finally found one but now the old company guy is not letting me go they have froze my experience letter, not accepting resignation letter not even giving me my salary slips and since with all this frustration I stopped working 2 months ago and now I got blocked form every possible way to contact them.8
-
After 1 year of working as android dev and coding in java, finally switched to another startup where everything is in Kotlin where I will be the only one maintaining that project.
Me: This code has almost no comments
Senior dev: Code is pretty self explanatory
FML
At least she spent 4 days with me and walked me through the code, so I'm not totally lost which is great!2 -
So, I finally got a bicycle today. Time to start working on my health...
Am I the only one who's daily regime was:
1 - Go to work, sit around for 8 to 9 hours
2 - Come home, sit around for 8 to 9 hours
3 - Sleep for 8 hours
Goto 1?
I was surprised how the bikes these days are so incredibly light. I could lift it and keep it up no problem!10 -
Docker swarm. All i want is a 'zero-downtime' system and everytime i try to set it up there's three damn things missing. Load balencer, service updater, and a good distributed storage. I finally got pissed off and am working on those but fuck it's been how fucking long docker has been out why the hell somebody else hasn't done this yet.3
-
I am back after 5 years
It's been a long time
After working for a shitty company, I ended up working for a startup for an interesting big project as a software architect
It was a good experience just for some stuff, but I hated every moment we needed to build some demo or prototype for potential customers or allies
I was tired... 2 years of demoing is too much. And finally I got a Senior Devops in this company working in Kubernetes
I finally discovered my role and my position, I want to solve problems for other devs and myself. I help anyway in the final product, because fast and reliable build and release cycle need to be a must
I wish everybody could find their main role. I took 12 years to find mine lol -
Well, this one is easy. It gotta be this year, as a finally finished my 2 years training as a software developer in July and I'm still working for the company that trained me.
Just as context, in Germany you have to train for a job for 2-3 years before you can actually start working in the field. During this training, you're essentially working at a company, get (reduced) pay and go to school every now and then. The training ends with a final exam, after which I could finally call myself a software developer. :-)7 -

Awesomeness ensues!!!!!
I finally quit my day job at the place I was working to finally go full time with my business, TerraNimbus. I was able to secure a small loan to cover business and personal expenses until I can drum up enough business to keep things a float.
I’m super fucking stoked because I’ve been wanting to branch out and do this for about 4 years now and finally feel like I have the right pieces in play to make it work. I’m as nervous as hell but so fucking excited too!
I just needed to share this here cause the DevRant community is world class and you guys/gals are fucking killing it everyday being AWESOME!!! And you all feel like extended family members to me all going through the motions in each of your lives and keeping ‘in touch’ through devRant on a daily basis. So I wanted to share my story with everyone here.4 -
Tomorrow I'll finally start working on a new part of my company's current project from scratch after loads of frustration in the past 1 1/2 months! Not a rant, just a lil bit of hope that it'll get better :)4

After ten years of working sh*t jobs I finally got the chance to study CompSci at a top university... All the kids look at me as if I've been programming for years, truth is I just study a lot because my scholarship requires me to get B+ or above.

So I was excited about working on a proyect I recently was invited to work on, but when I finally got my hands on the code I felt this urge to scream "YOU FUCKER!!!" (the dev responsible for the code)6

After a long break for studies, I'm finally gonna continue working on my game engine. Wish me good luck.😃😃7

Everyone is working in a project except me and I can only use IE11 and Chrome... :'( -
After two months of working on the new version I've finally decided to compile everything. I must say I was pretty confident that everything would compile pretty well.
I've never been so wrong in my life xD6 -
Finally got through a second interview with a company that won't abuse me(working late nights, early mornings, and weekends for months now) on Thursday! They even said I did a good job and they like me! Most intense waiting of my life for a call back!2
-
Why are these SAMPLES NOT WORKING!?
It's supposed to just be reading and writing OAuth2 tokens from session.
I'm THIS CLOSE |__| to getting things working and I had to leave work. The fucking worst.
On the bright side, I think I finally understand how OAuth2 works. I need to write an article that actually explains it properly because I've had to read dozens to get a good grasp on it.2 -
Probably when I was younger and got my AI working for her checkers game I made in Z80 asm for TI-86. Spent so much time on it not working and then seeing it finally working and taking jumps and scoring the board positions and it seemed semi intelligent even thought it was a very weak ai ... Still I was excited 😁5
-
I hate my brain.
When I want to program it's always when I'm outside doing chores, on a trip or when I'm at my non-dev job.
When I finally get home and ready for working on projects my brain feels like watching Schwarzenegger films instead.
Fuck you brain.1 -
I’m currently working on the profile view in JoyRant, which turns out to be much more work than I thought.
Anyway, after many iterations on the appearance, I’m now finally satisfied about how it looks and works. Especially the category picker (Rants, ++’s, Comments, Favorites).
What do you think? Do you like it?4 -
Spending 2 days trying to figure out why code signing wasn’t working when deployment is started from teamcity. Every time I tried manually it worked, but through teamcity it just kept telling me that no certificate could be found.
I finally twigged what the problem was, my code signing certificate is smart card based and you can’t access it if is requested from a RDP session. I had launched the teamcity build agent from an RDP session a few days back without thinking…
Rebooted and started the buildagent via VirtIO VNC and low and behold it started working again. -
I finally finished my Bachelors Degree that I was studying for while working 40-60h a week with 2 children.
During this whole time (3.5 years) I was totally into learning everything. Not just for my studies but I read many books about programming and architecture read thousands of blog posts and loved it to be a software developer.
And now suddenly I lost every interest in reading even one tiny post.
Software Development got boring and I just don't care about it anymore.
Probably just a down period, but who knows.
At least I finally can build my unfinished guitars that had to wait for so long. working on them makes me really feel happy 😊5 -
I finally did it! I met my goal! After 6 months and a ton of interviews I finally found a new job! Good pay, good culture and actual options for career paths!
I was so sick of working were I wasn't growing or being valued. I can rant enough about what a weight off my mind this is!

When you spend hours working on something, finally look at the fruits of your efforts and think 'what the hell is this?'. Delete. Start again. Repeat in five hours.1
-
Best: Started working successfully, raised my self confidence, can finally see my future
Worst: Started feeling the effects of too much work on my mental and physical health (bad eyesight, back pain, weight...)2 -
Everything is working, including the damn ml model. But I assume, considering the amount of restlessness and anxiety I'm feeling, that I will look like a scared hamster or trash panda while presenting it.
(Presenting to internal staff. But still)5 -
That feeling of giving birth to a child, when the pull request on which we are working for a week is finally merged into master. 😂😂
-
So I’m working on this project I’ve been working on for like 3 weeks and I finally got this feature to work but it had a bug and I shit you not fighting this program was like playing through bloodborne for the first time again. It got to the point where I started naming the testing files swear words or stuff like “itshopeless”, “maybe”, “maybe2”, “pls”, etc but I finally after fucking hours passed, bug slaughtered. And I’m now exhausted

one of my friend is new to frontend dev.
and he's trying to center a div (text).
using position absolute and relative.
It's not working BTW.
We're communicating over text.
Must be loosing his mind.
He'll finally understand center div memes.6 -
Finally code start working fine no bugs, no warning just working.
Moments later!
start to compile again but this time either with warning or with bugs. Anyone? -
Hi devRanters
I have been working on an android game in my free time as a hobby. It has been 2 years, so I have decided to finally put it up in play store (maybe as alpha or beta). If there is interest I might keep working on it. Any advice? It is the first time I make a game and I am completely green in regards to publishing it and things to take into account.
All advice is appreciated. I am a bit nervous as it has been my baby for 2 years...2 -
YES!
Finally got our CI/CD line working correctly after two days worth of intensive work.
Got me thinking - what do you use for CI/CD? -
Wish you devRant family a very happy new year, my new year resolution for the year finally start working on my side project which I have been rolling off for the last 2 years, this is the year I finally start and finish it off.
-
It was in old days when I was working in java and windows systems.
Java and different log4j versions across dependencies caused system not working only on production server.
Turned out some of libraries got log4j embedded and conflicted with other log4j.
It worked in all computers except production one.
Actually that was my main reason to switch my career to python after that dependency hell.
Another one was windows server 2008 tcp connection limit set to 200 or something.
We needed to change registry to get our servers working. After this case we finally managed to convince people to switch to linux.
Anyway any non standard error when you got multiple layers communicate with each other is hard, practice make it easier to solve those problems as your success moment comes faster.4 -
Yay finally summer started
Ye no fuck that
After being "migrated" into a newer smaller office and getting another team member we are now three people on about 5 square meters of space.
Another good thing is that we don't have an air conditioning unit in the new room and gained a few more PCs.
Oh and did I mention that we are on the sunny side of the building now.
Basically we are working in Satan's Asshole now. Good thing is that I am working on a thermometer now.
35 degrees Celsius is still alright isn't it?
Oh and our fan broke today.3 -
Holy shiiittttt I finally got 64bit NASM working on windows with cmake. Cmake documentation is fkn bad man.
I’ve got a c++ file that calls a procedure in an assembly file that calls win32 APIs to show dialogs and other cool shit. Compiling was working fine, linking turned out to be a bit of a pain in the ass, but figuring out how to enable NASM in cmake was a nightmare. Why is the cmake docs so horrific 🥺1 -
Was a dba for a while. Mostly because I was the only one who knew SQL. Was working with an experienced dev doing front end work with no experience with front end work.
One day he calls over the cube wall "hey the database is broken" so I trudge over there, and see he messed up the call to the BAL from his code behind page. Later, he calls over the cube wall again. Same thing. 3 to 4 times a day. For a week. Finally my default became "no it isn't" and I continued working.
Then when it finally was a database problem, he had this smug look of satisfaction. Yes I'm the idiot. -
Finally managed to get my CNN working with proper tensorboard logging. Think I'm starting to understand how it works.
But it got overfitted...4 -
Been working on a personal project for about two years now.
It has finally become a venture that we will be launching pretty soon!!9 -
After working with a coworker on some odd issues, I finally decided to check on the actual ticket he needed assistance with.
From now on, we will optimize our HTML for aesthetic appeal in Chrome's dev tools. display:none is verboten.
Sometimes I wonder if I've had a stroke or if I've died and am in purgatory. -
Finally starting to write unit tests for this Java library I'm working on, and I'm wondering why I didn't do this sooner.4
-
Finally leaving a job that I've been working at. All we did was maintain a codebase that was originally built as a prototype by an intern, with no hopes of getting a green light on refactoring or rewriting. So glad I'm no longer part of that mess. Don't know why I'm writing this but it's just like a weight has lifted off my shoulders.2
-
questions in our mind as soon as we see someone coding in public place:
» What is he/she working on?
» Is that person better than me?
and then we finally judge him/her as a showoff! 😂 -
Finally got a working hackintosh setup except that it says I only have 7MB of vram. I'm starting to see why developers just buy the Mac and burn the cash 😑7
-
Aunt asked me to repair her phone because "nothing is working". She said she tried every phone repairer in the town. She blames the phone, the phone manufacturer and everyone else.
She finally admitted the phone fell into water and she didn't tell it to the repairers. Then she wonders why they can't do magic.
"But aren't the front camera and the rear camera the same camera?"
Wat? -
We've been using private GitHub repos as a distribution method for our personal npm packages at work for years.
I finally got sick of it and did the work to publish them to artifactory yesterday. Today, I worked out the remaining kinks, fixed the CI builds, and wrote a wiki page explaining the change with step by step migration instructions and sent it around to the rest of the devs. And it's working great!
I feel simultaneously like a hero for finally getting this fixed and an idiot for putting up with it for so long.
Also thankful for my devops friend who helped a bunch.1 -
Been working on an Android app for a month and finally when it was time to publish I couldn't pay Developer registration fee for God knows what reason. :/
Keep getting
"An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later"
Feeling like shit :/3 -
I finally got IPv6 working on my home network with a custom Linux router. It's pretty neat. I wrote a full tutorial:
https://battlepenguin.com/tech/...4 -
48 hours hackathon, Before 20 min everything working good and fine. Finishing touch and everything breaks. Finally, fixed 5 min prior to presentation start. Panicked to toes, were asked to present first. Result: Runners up. Hell yeah.
-
Working on a project needing to integrate java, jquery, SQL, various aspects of Android unix manipulation i.e. rotation, gps, music players, etc..needs to successfully build and after getting finally getting all needed repository files, work in android studio then be converted into an apk, compressed sent to instuctor's device for seemless use...this group project included 6 individuals teamed up like avengers to complete...my team mates either dropped the class or with drew.fml with a hammer sideways.2
-
I've finally started playing a MUD game in my spare time. I gotta say, it's kinda awesome. And, BONUS: it looks like I'm actually working since the interface is just a text terminal.2
-
That feeling of utter uselessness when you read "Really? That took you all day?" in your gf's eyes when (proudly) showing that you finally got the map markers working reactively on map drag.
-
With a large caffeine high and an all day techno stream, I’ve managed to finally “get” docker after 4 years working with it4
-
Whats your celebration step after a piece of code that you debugged for hours finally starts working? Do you clap, do you hurl a mouthfull at the code, do you do a moonwalk?6

!!rant
Today I wanted to finish a feature in some Python code I. Working on instead I scope creeped myself a bunch times adding "other cool features" and refactoring working and readable code that didn't need refactoring. Oh and learning about random things on SO and finally giving up on making any more progress for the day and reading devrant.

First time installing a Linux distro as my main system. I chose arch and finally got xorg with lightdm and i3 working. I really live it so far.
Still no browser besides lynx though. Buy there's a more important thing I need to fix first. Gotta style that white console away😎
Also I corrupted windows while installing, so I'll have to reinstall that later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯2 -
Finally weekend. Watching two friends playing FIFA 16. Can't stop trying to figure out how the AI is working.1
-
!rant, but friendly advice.
I see all those jokes about Android Studio being too heavy, and while I completely agree, want to ask you guys something:
Have you increased the memory it can use in .vmoptions?
Mine lagged as hell, but was using only about 1GB of ram.
After slight change in that file, it finally started working like it should from the beginning.6 -
After a long year of going back to school for a masters. And working my ass off in networking events and internining. I can finally call myself a data scientist by job :D
-
Finally got Wolfenstein 2 working on Linux with Lutris after an evening of fiddling 😳
Awesome game, by the way. -
Google bloody captcha.
It works fine, until you have more than one form on a page then the complexity increases by 100000%.
Finally my colleague gets it working then I read an article that says bots use Google own speech recognition service to defeat it. Fun times.3 -
I was in dependency hell for two days.
Im a junior working in a team creating an ember app. Suddenly a main component refuses to work since an addon threw "EmberObject undefined"... Nobody could reproduce it and we where out of ideas, so I tried fixing it for 2days (7h total). I finally got it working after updating yarn :D
It never felt so good working again :) -
Finally got a project I’ve been working overtime on for the last 18 months or so ready for a 1.0 launch! Still some features we want to build in for down the line, but it’s nice to finally hit a meaningful milestone...
-
To be honest the exact bug I don't remember. I do recall that it had something stupid I had been trying to fix to get nodejs working on a raspberry pi. I finally figured it out and managed to get a simple rest server going. After hours of trying to fix what might now seem insignificant, I was not only relieved that I got it working, but also thrilled that I kept at it and managed to fix it.
selfConfidence++; -
So ive made some big improvements to skyRant the Android devRant client and the new version is out on Github!
There's now a fully working Avatar Builder (which actually took a while since it was not really documented to this point) and search, profile editing and community projects page have been added. :).

Finally got the last round of god awful bugs in this god awful shit code fixed. I thought I could finally get back to working on the new build, but no. My reward is updating a god damn pdf, because none of the fucktards here know how. I have to work backwards through all kinds of pointless bullshit code that apparently generates it, all to find a mother fucking image that just needs to be replaced. Thanks a lot, to the tryhard motherfucker who wrote this code. I hope wherever you are, you're in complete agony.2

My best coworker was my mentor from another place, always dreamed of being as skilled as he is, until we were finally working together, we became buddies.

Holiday in 6 days, wohoo. 3weeks in Thailand. So ready for it.
Currently working on a huge real estate website. Design got approved yesterday, yesterday I finally got partial access to the clients real estate data. Where the data is uploaded to our server as zip files containing a xml file and files attached to it.
Deadline is tomorrow, but has been pushed back 2-3 weeks, which sucks as I probably have to work whilst on vacation4 -

After one and a half year working at my current company, I finally took the courage to link the shared Sonos to my computer, and play the music I like.
That's some Great Social Achievement for me! Hurray 😆👏🎉3 -
It has finally happened. I have escaped the land of bloated Objective-C and JabbaScript. This week I have started on another project, a full stack team working in Angular, Java, Hibernate, PostgreSQL. The dream has come true. Java it has been too long my friend.

I am finally again at a company where I enjoy working and my coworkers are great that makes it easy staying motivated. Besides that need to provide for my family.2

FUCKING FUCK, I have been working on a school project I planned to give up but finally I gave it some more days and I got it working. But the program that should correct me didn't have a fucking include I forgot in my code and I got "The build failed, your project couldn't be tested" so it's 01

Spent an entire week working on XCode configurations for a react-native+swift+objc bridging project. Been failing builds all week. Finally i look over to see the glorious word Succeeded!
Then I realized it was the clean that succeeded, not the build. FFS1 -
Longest I've worked is about 15 hours.
I had a major project that I was working on for a while, and I kept going on and off on this project. One day I finally found the passion I guess, and just went full blown coding mode.
Basically managed to finish the remaining ~50% of the base that day. -
Hey guys! Finally decided to jump on board! This is my first rant so go easy.
Working on a project were some freedom of choice is allowed and thinking about using polymer to create a wordpress theme... Is this a good idea or a terrible one?
😕6 -
I just rsync my current project with one that is a week outdated. Instead of pushing, I pulled the update. Worst, it had a --delete flag.
Have being working on it all week. Finally client asked for updates and I instead pulled the outdated online project to replace my locally updated project folder.
I'm dead😪7 -
Finally performing that dev rite of passage: working on my personal site.
Would have done it sooner if I had design skills.5 -
The feeling when you've spent a good week working on making super new tech work with super old tech... and finally get it working.
On cloud nine ATM. -
Now that I finally have a proper git server setup with gitea, I can't stop using it, it's so fucking handy being able to just pull the changes to my laptop before leaving in half a second, then working offline with laradock and once home push it to my server, to then continue where I left off on my pc.10

Just spent two days on a isotope filtering bug with HubSpot. Finally got it working.

I recently got a job interview and i am finally working as a junior consultant!
The most exciting thing is the fact that I am still studying Informatic Engineering .
I have still a long road to walk since I am still on the second year of a three years course. But finally I feel that my knowledge is being appreciated and I can use that in order to help a company.
If any experts in this area could give me advice, I am going forward to read them. I am new to devRant too !4 -

Been working on an issue for the past 3 days. For a gamer, I didn't even start Steam even once. Now, after so much frustration, barely any sleep and too many mindfucks, I finally figured it out and commit my code. Now I can watch Suicide Squad in peace. :')

Finally got powerline working in tmux on my iMac. I found some obscure issue where there's an async problem occasionally on mac where you have to reload the daemon and config manually for it to work. Two days of fighting with this but it finally worked! It's a Christmas miracle!

The code I've been writing the past weeks has finally been activated in production mode yesterday, thousands of items have been processed and I'm so proud as a junior developer to have this 100% self-written program working and, above all, to create value for my co-workers :D
The code is not as beautiful as it can be, but it's a truly one-off thing that can be deleted afterwards, so it doesn't matter :)2 -
Finally got Stripe charges to work, then changed it to make subscriptions work in the Django app I was working on for Capstones. At least in theory. Works locally, but hasn’t been merged into our Production branch yet, so there could be something missing.
Still, super happy to have finally crossed it off my mental to-do list. -
After a week of working days of testing and development, the new feature finally finished. But my boss wasn't satisfied with the flow so he sent a revision.
After finished with revision, he still not satisfied with it and then sent another revision. This happened 3 times in a week after completing task before any revision and this week comes the fourth with some vague businesses flow. I feel like I don't have value anymore in this company.1 -

I finally have a vServer again, now I need to fill it with 'life': secure it, build a small website and mailserver.
The main idea is to have some basics to look more professionell. I'd love any tip and idea how idk, save work before I run into stupid beginner mistakes, or things you had good experiences working with when you had similar tasks? :) -
I've been complaining for 2 years about working on a project with shitty external developers. Finally get another project done by internal developers and the architecture and decisions made were just as shitty. Like, there are Soap web services implemented solely for the web app ui alongside rest services for the mobile app. Now I'm left to maintain the failed attempt to correct the architecture 3 years ago and all the devs already left. Oh joy.

Today I finally got around to reading the manuals for my appliances as my Dryer didn't seemed to be working.
Apparently there is a filter that should be cleaned...
How it's not broken, it may be out of warranty...
Also the manual showed that the model that came with my new apartment is actually the cheapest version...5 -
After a horrible 11 months in probation I quit from my shitty job and got a new job with better benefits, better pay, better working hours and better co-workers (we'll see if that lasts).
However this new job turns out, I'm glad I got out of the toxicity of my old job and finally have some hope that things might work out after all.7 -
Today I had a co-worker ask how we can set a value in the registry since this other program we are working with encrypts it. My response was, "It isn't encrypted, it is little-endian." Then I went into the whole endianness topic. After finally telling him how to convert the hex values in the registry back to the original decimal value that the program is storing, he said, "I'll just take your word for it."1

Been working on a particularly elusive HTML menu sizing glitch for over a year now, trying to get it to appear consistently enough to track down its cause. Finally a) got it to happen in a browser so I could hit it with Chrome Inspector and b) figured out what was probably causing it and fixed it.

not a huge bug, but it was my most recent one. was building a website and I wanted a custom font, so I put in
@font-face {
font-family: "Font";
src: url ("fonts/font.otf") format("opentype");
}
but this wasn't working. looked for about a day (while working on other stuff) finally found an article that said I needed absolute paths to the font rather than relative paths. so /css/fonts/font.otf worked4 -

This situation, when you are working as external employee in a company that needs you to test safety-critical systems.
You wait months for "THE" (internal) test tool you have to use to implement your specified tests.
Finally , you meet with the responsible dev guy to let him setup everything.
Me: Hi, I'm here for setting up the test tool for project XY
Dev: Eh? No one (manger) ordered the tool for project XY!

On my first job I was assigned to an Angular 1 project that nobody was working on anymore. After two weeks of pestering the people that worked on it I finally figured out that mess of a code and started fixing bugs. It sucked working alone but I escaped eventually...
-
Game development:
So I finally got a story. An actual fucking story! Anyways no development on the actual project. My computer just crashed recently so I'll be looking into issue if it can actually start up showing the screen and keyboard to get working again.
Oh and Im getting wifi tmr.4 -
tomorrow i will (finally) get a new teammate,
was working solo for 8 weeks now and in 2 months i will become parent and will take some time off
i wonder what's the best way for onboarding
i think i will try to do some pair programming until he gets the basic architecture and feels safe enough to work on his own
what's your experience on this, best onboarding you had?5 -
One year after planning, ideation, development. We were finally ready to launch our client’s product. Everyone was super excited to finally be done with the project. I was responsible to launch it, on a Monday, overnight.
Launch successful. Everyone is happy.
But then it happened... we got the call.. the application is not working. Our team started working to figure out what may have gone wrong, error logs weren’t useful, Application monitors were calm.
Finally, after a tiresome 24 hours, I logged into the hosting account of our client, and there it was, in big bold letters, “Ram: 512MB”.
Apparently, our client thought it would be best to get a cheaper dedicated server instead of the one we fucking recommended.2 -
University projects. I used to always delay them till the last day/days(somehow I knew when to finally start working to be just in time to complete it). There i would be not sleeping for 2/3 days and submitting like 5/10 minutes before deadline time.
P.s. I've only been working for about a year so not much to quote from there -
I got my circular buffer working for my oscope display I am working on for audio data.
https://github.com/Demolishun/...
I plan on expanding this to have more functions for bulk operations. I also want my fake iterators to be able to be used with <algorithm> functions.
It was pretty awesome last night to finally get to see my audio waveforms displaying properly.1 -
Tomorrow I will presumably finish a project I’ve been working on since around last May. Fucking finally then all i will need to do is polish4
-
Working on 3 projects solo remotely and everyone wants their changes promptly. Also, I don't disclose to clients that I work for other people. (Being me)
Finished with 2 projects today so gonna Netflix and chill ( I really don't have a gf and idgaf), I need pack of smokes really bad and internet outage just in time when I finally finished, now waiting for more changes eagerly so that I can get paid finally2 -
After a 3 hour fight with a custom Ajax request I have won the fight of getting a limiter run on the output. My goal was to only display x amount of result from a Json response and I finally got it working by putting everything in a if statement. Might not be the cleanest way but it works.

So I follow Linus Tech Tips and set my computer's DNS server to 1.1.1.1 but the dumbass in me didn't set any backup servers.
Come Friday night, internet is not working on my computer. After a modem/router restart and it still not working, I thought it was just the internet in the house was down for a little bit (it was connecting to the router perfectly fine). The next morning I wake up and my phone's connected to WiFi and it's working, so I'm like, "great, internet's back"
Not for my laptop lol. Nothing's loading there. Since it's just this device that's having trouble, I decide to forget the network and log back in. Still not working.
I finally remembered my DNS server setting and add Google's external DNS servers to the list and now it's working.9 -
It’s seems like I can’t finish anything at work. I’m working on a data migration routine since last week. Almost finished but hit some Barriers, had to ask my boss for help, he finally was able to solve the problem. But then I had to move to another task, and realized I will have to change the data structure of the app after a long time working on the task. I know somethings take longer, but i feel so unproductive when I’m not finishing tasks everyday :/2
-
So I finally got a rant to tell, about me myself and I. Were working on my web host (personal gladly) and was trying to get ACME working without root access. I messed up and somehow got a folder named “~”, in a directory. I thought “well that folder is unnecessary” and I ran “rm -rf ~”. The moment I pressed “enter”, I realized what could’ve happened, and it did happen. My whole web-root gone. No backups. Just a big facepalm on my forehead ...
Take lesson, fix backups...4 -
I was tasked to implement SSO. I was quite terrified, because I am working on legacy project where everything is implemented poorly. After series of question I finally found out that client's image of sso is just connecting to another db to validate against user table. I felt relieved :D
-
Weekend of our big re-platforming finally comes. I'm not invited for overtime work during this transition. Boss emails on Sunday wanting me to test some code.
What the actual fuck? HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Nope. Office could be on fire - not being paid? Not working. 🍺🍺🍺 -
After couiple of hours (Yes, apprently it's insane how hard is to add a new NIC to a linux machine and make it start on boot), I finally got my connexion working !
Story :
Server has original MB 1Gbits card. Internet connexion is 1.1 Gbps. So 1Gb card only picked at 940 Mbits download
I bought a 2.5 Gb card (new nic)
Pluged it in : Nothing
Couple of ifconfig -a etc, bring device UP : Yeah working !
Reboot : Nothing
/etc/interfaces : nothing
And why it's not eth0 and eth1 etc as before but some thing cryptic like enp3s0.
Well, at least now everything working (Apperently there is a new "network plan" config file in yaml... what a waste, DO FUCKING JSON YOU RETARDS)
Ping is awsome tho ! Same cable on windows Machine, I get 5 ms.4 -
I finally got a nice Ubuntu setup working and running. No wrappers or drivers for my existing wifi dongle but a new one on the way. And Cities Skylines has Linux support so I'm happy. I love it Cheers guys xo1
-
So I finally got full computer access 2 and a half weeks into working, and now there's "scheduled network downtime" with no indication of when it will be back up. I swear I'm never going to get anything done here
-
Finally managed to install Manjaro with working hybrid nvidia drivers on my lapptop! I fucking love this OS already. Now I can start learning linux by actually using it.12
-
rant & question
What am I supposed to do to finally get log4j working?? It just doesn't want to log in my project. Or it simply hates me. However many tutorials and documentation I've followed, even copy pasting simplest examples with ConsoleAppendet, setting the xml config to classpath.
It starts with default fallback logging.
How do all the tutorials automagically work??1 -
My best CS Teaching experience is when I'm working with someone in C++, and I get to see the look on their faces when it finally starts to make sense.
-
I finally finished a website of a client where I‘m working on since 2012!!! WTF! I never hat such a client before. Sometimes I haven‘t heard anything from them 4 months then they called me, I changed some pictures a did a little bit of styling and then it took months again to get a feedback! To be honest, now 5 years later they need a redesign of their „new“ website.1

When you've been ignoring the low battery light on your mouse for a few weeks, finally it dies while you're working and it's really frustrating to have to either go find batteries (good luck) or fish that wired mouse out of the bin of spare things.
To top it all off, it's only a 3-button mouse and I can't get used to going back. (No pun intended lol)6 -
That moment your professor tasks you with writing a genetic algorithm and are forced to use MatLab (which I don't use).
"The University offers MatLab through ssh, so no problems, right?" Only basic package installed...
As cherry on the pie I found out that it's nowhere close to intuitive for me.
Got the feeling I could've done it way faster in the programs I'm used to, but finally got it working! -
!rant
So i'm currently an IGCSE student, and i learn programming as a hobby, but this year is the graduation year and i took all the subjects necessary for The Faculty of Computer Science, but i wanted some advice from the people working in this field, so is it a great job with good income? and are thier many job oppurtinities out there on the market? And finally which is better Software engineering or CS?
Thanks for your time.5 -
4 hours later and my code is finally working and as usual it was only one line causing everything but on the bright side I now now how to use mocks and spies
-
Don't suppose anyone has experience with a pinebook pro?
Finally giving up hope on my chromebook and working on my game engine using the Linux VM built in is just getting slower and slower...
Trying to get some opinions before I put down $360 to get one imported .-.11 -
That moment you're helping out a colleague with his ticket and stuff isn't working and you ask him.
Hey you do reset your cache right?
On which he replies yes of course I do.
10 minutes later you finally walk over to him and you see his browser open without Dev tools......... -
I finally got a working D&D Dungeon Master AI working right, a lot of actions have to be presented before the full combat round, but the results are all unique, but it still isn't creative enough to add more then 2 npc with conversation skills, I think there's some hidden blocks in the backend :/7
-
Been working on this webapp for ~1 year, and it's finally up and running! :D
collanon.app
If any of you would like to review it I would be flattered u.u14 -
So two weeks ago I said I want to make a website
After 9 days of working 9 hours per day I’m finally done with the basics. It’s a website that’s basically an infinite post board
I’d want to invite people here to test it but I’m also afraid that there might be people just attacking my server. So now idk what to do4 -
!rant
Finally managed to implement a proper E2E testing solution for our app with Protractor and Jasmine. Some basic tests (login and dashboard) are already working.
I'm just so happy to automate everything, going to cut down our manual testing time from 2h to about 20 to 30min if I'm estimating this correctly.
That's all. Just wanted to say I'm very happy with the results 😊5 -
had been working on a code for 10 hours and when i thought it was finally ready, without any errors, the compiler bi#ch killed my satisfaction for a f#@king ';'
never miss the semicolon, lessons from day 1. ://4 -
Sacrificing mental health working a corporate 9 5 job in this industry for 8$ an hour is absolutely not worth it I'd rather kill myself than live like this. The only power that was pushing me to continue working this shithole industry was to buy a car at least on leasing but now that i finally reached that point to be able to afford it on leasing the health price i had to pay for that has caused so many new problems that its not worth at all to fucking continue.9

After a year working in an office where everyone worked part time (manager 3h, other programmers 5/6h per day) and I was the only full time employee …
… one day the manager told me: “since today is pre-holiday you can go home one hour early as we usually do”
…usually…
… after a year…
… of many pre-holiday days …
you finally felt that it was the time to inform me that I could have spent less hours in that 💩 office?
Well thanks…
[… finally I don’t feel so guilty for going home just 5 minutes after the others left the office because there was nothing to do …] -
Finally after one year i managed to set up my home office - so much more comfortable than sitting on the kitchen table when I am working on some side projects, from home or when I am playing some computer games
-
Guess I started with WordPress, copying small snippets of code I never really understood and pasting them wherever, in order to try and solve the many issues I faced while working on my first ever website.
I later tried to learn bootstrap and js for more control over the look of my page, failed miserably.
About three years ago I started learning Java and now I'm an android developer, who btw can also fucking finally create a working, maintainable website from scratch. -
We need to test the last step in our proof-of-concept chain before putting our project proposal... but just before testing what we believe will be (finally) a functioning scenario, the key service we need and have no influence over stopped working. I am pretty sure, it will start working like 5 minutes before I usually leave.. one has to love this waitNRush development.
-
Only just spent an hour like a fucking retard trying every possible solution to something so basic even a toddler could fix it by mashing keys on the keyboard to finally realise I was working on the wrong fucking view!! 😀🔫
-
When you spent your whole life hoping to go to college for a degree to start a development career.
Then, when you finally graduate after 4 years off and on, graduate into the beginning pandemic fearing economy and be unable to find a job for over 9 months.
Eventually, working on the family farm to stay productive but then feeling unable to leave after the job market finally comes back.
Anyone else?2 -
I finally get to work on my first independent project at my internship! It’s been cooling working with my team so far but I’m excited to try things to figure out things by myself first before getting some help.
-
After 1 and half years of irritation with Cinnamon, finally got Unity working..😁😁. You realise the importance of something only when you are without them..
-
Finally got the next part of my new feature working. So much rework has gone into this due to miscommunication. Now comes the fun task of a mass of unit test writing!3
-
Ugh, I finally got a big project at work as the main backender but I still have a lot to learn. I fucked up the estimation for a big component and this is the fifth night im working late because I feel responsible.
Fuck this shit.4 -
Just realised how frustrating it can be to setup Android Studio on Ubuntu and Windows, for React Native.
Was only using the creat-react-native-app yet, without the native code.
Feels good to finally see it working.
PS- Still can't get the emulator to work on Ubuntu 😭2 -
Best: The absolute feeling of glee when I finally twigged what polymorphism is!
Worst: spending a fully night working out what polymorphism is.... -
One reason I hate working on hardware and prefer software. Spent all weekend trying to get this Canon photo printer to work with a raspberry pi for a photo booth project. Tried multiple cables, compiling the latest cups and gutenprint, etc. Only could get it to print via wifi. Finally, I go to the store and buy a new micro USB cable and it works right away. 😠2
-
Been working on my esports tracker for several years in my free time, I finally have a plan to make it an actual product.1
-
Honestly when tests finally pass and no bugs are to be seen after a long period of working on something.
-
Today wasted around 5 hours installing nginx, apache stills working and keeping listen on 80 port after uninstalling it reboot finally the thing was i dont change the fucking dns of the server and trying to connect to the domain 5 hours later tried to connect to the ip... Fuck my life1

Freaking RESTful API's.
Never worked with one before and I'm using Django Rest Framework.
Currently working (trying to) with Angular 2.
Spent lots of time trying to make angular work because ng needs arrays instead of objects when I finally realized it was a matter of the API.
Have no idea what I'm doing5 -
Finally working on rewriting the core of our internal platform on CakePHP 3.
It feels so good leaving the legacy codebase behind!4 -
Finally managed to build a working Wordsearch system with OpenCV and curses.
I curse ncurses till the end of days. -
Um hey guys, so I was working with websockets in node.js and wanted to have some form of authentication. Did a bit of googling, read some docs and finally implemented something. It's just I am not sure if it is the right way. Can the experts give their 2 cents?
This is not a rant exactly, so if it comes under self promotion or irrelevant, please tell. 😃
http://iostreamer.me/ws/node.js/...6 -
I haven't written a line of code in over a month ever since I stopped working due to health issues...
And I have no desire or ideas to create any new apps...
Sorta feels like I'm throwing away 20+ years of work/experience/passion.
Maybe I should just solve algo problems for fun?
Or should I finally try doing some (Java) open source...
Where to find projects?7 -
I finally got around to working on my new application (after a friendly guy did pull requests)
I feel like I made decent progress.
yay!
I will certainly add more tomorrow :) -
Began working on an old project at work today. It has been about 6 months since I last touched it and 10 months since I began working here. No one that works here knew how to get the project running on anything other than one specific computer in the office...i work remotely. So instead of remoting in I finally figured out how to run it on my computer!
*crash*
Turns out it only runs on vista.... -
Trying to setup drupal from scratch on main windows desktop, 2 days in fiddling with phpa and apache server to get clean URLs and OPCODE caching working. To finally finish the installation.
-
so after 2 weeks of beeing sick I finally start up the project im working on and its fail start up same with the backup there goes 2 months work down the drain
-
I am working on this Flask web application as a part of the recruiting process for a company I have applied to. There are so many mysql connectors out there, but most of them are either deprecated or have shoddy documentation. Finally I found one that was working, but it used
caching_sha_password2 as its authorization plugin which is no longer supported by MySQL😤😤😤6 -
Last year I spent several months working on a private project, which I thought was a (free) cool and helpful addition to the target audience. Was excited to finally release it to the public. But nobody cares, nobody is interested and nobody uses it. Can't even advertise it (on Facebook) because it is Crypto related. And other platforms (Reddit, StackExchange, ...) want $20k+ for a small ad campaign.6
