It was between me and another guy.
I fucking won!
I GOT THE FUCKING JOB!!
I'll be a junior Linux Support Engineer in a week or so!
OMG OMG YAYAYAYAYAY97 -
My first dev job was the worst! The woman in charge of the building was always on my ass! She didn't really understand what programming was and didn't like that I smoked in my office... Then I moved out of my mom's house and got my own place9
-
Logged in after approx 1.5 years. I want to be active here again! In the past 1.5 yr, I ...
- got married
- got a new MacBook
- moved to a new place
- got a new job
Wooooooo20 -
I had a dream where I got a job at SpaceX. Long story short, rockets fell from the sky, people died, and Musk got really angry. I don't think I'll be applying at SpaceX anytime soon.7
-
So I've got a Linux related job (or, starting at monday). When people ask me what my new position is called, I'll of course tell! Well, I stutter sometimes in my native language. Especially with the letter L.
"so what's your new position?"
"Lllllll-lllll-llllllllllllllllllll"
*mother of god*
"lllllllllllllllllllllll-llllllllllllll*
*OH FFS*
"Llllllllllll-llllllllllllllllllll-lllllllinux support engineer!"
*FUCKING FINALLY!*
"Hey man, you got a new job I heard, what's your new position?"
*please work*
"Lllllllllll-lllllllllllllllll-llllllllllllllllllllll*
*MOTHERFUCKER*
"Lllllllll-lllllllllllllllllllinux support engineer!"
"ey dude, what's your new position? Heard you got a new job!"
*alright let's do this better*
"gonna do stuff with servers and customer service!"
"Ah cool! What system do they run on their servers?"
No. 😡28 -
Worst interview question (but actually answer) :
Interviewer : "How would you describe the Internet in one word?"
Me: "... Big"
I got the job by some miracle.10 -
I have this one friend who thinks he is a tech guru just because he plays video games a lot and started to study cs for one year. Now he got a job as sysadmin and it is funny to hear him brag about the job in front of non-tech people because he sounds like a CSI Cyber episode, just throwing tech words at the people and I know that he talks bullshit.
But I have to admit, he knows how to sell himself. Probably that's how he got the job in the first place because it cannot be his experience.
Yesterday he called me, to help him edit something on a linux server. I told him "To edit the file type 'vi FILENAME' and then you can edit. I have to go now, I have a meeting." :]22 -
Oh yeah. Hey guys. 2 things.
First off. Forgot to say. Officially got a job. Finally. So thank you for all the help/advice and patience with my depressive rants!!
I'm in a new chapter of my life now so thanks.
And secondly.
I FUCKING HATE MY JOB6 -
Got married yesterday and am now on a call for the same problem that occurred over Christmas...
I need a new job...10 -
So I had a job interview and got offered the job on the spot, then I went back to my manager at my current workplace to raise an issue about me being underpaid for this months wages and this is how the conversation went.
Enjoy.20 -
I got a call from the recruiter today and she asked me for my current salary. When I told her, she replied "Based on your experience and skill set, that's too low".
"That's why I am looking for a job"
I cried internally 😥8 -
Not a rant! 😁
For the first time in 21 years, ya girl landed herself a job!
It's a part-time paid internship to work at the IT help-desk for a company. Not hugely glamorous, but for the first job in my whole life, I am pretty excited & happy 😊
And as an extra bonus, my partner got the job too!! Yay :)9 -
Recruiter emailed me later this day. (had my first job interview today for a Linux Support Engineer position).
He said he thinks he might have some good news. I am nervous. Fingers crossed 😰19 -
Applied for the job, recruiter got in touch with me and setup an interview.
Interview went well and heard I was hired after two days!
Yes, good recruiters, they exist ;)8 -
I accepted the job for Machine Learning.
I got hired todo the back end.
I actually do the front end.5 -
Holy shit I got the job/internship!!!
WTFFFLBLBLBLBLAK
They even said that after reading my code samples they knew they could use someone like me 😍😍 biggest compliment I have gotten since 3 years at least. Selfworth restored 👍8 -
Well I ended my interviews-adventure finally.
Applied for three companies:
- KindOfBigCompany
- BiggestCompany
- BiggestCompany2
I failed in the last two. But got the job in the first one.
The bittersweet sensation is that I got the job in the first one first and then got rejected by the other two so my last feeling is the rejection one. And I really liked BiggestCompany2.
BUT KindOfBigCompany is actually really cool and has a lot of benefits and also I'll earn much more than I currently am so I guess Happy Ending after all :D5 -
First ever job interview (in my field) went well and I got the job two days later! (my current one).
I'm getting scared from the other stories though 😅3 -
After ten months of unemployment, got a call from someone who had taken a class I had taught, and he asked if I was available for a position. I said yes, and got the job without an interview on a one year contract. Three months in, I got an offer to convert to permanent. I've been there 14 years now.3
-
After a year and a half of unemployment and near depression, multiple rejections and turmoil from within my family, I finally got a job!
Never give up, just believe in yourself and in the universe.
Onwards and upwards!10 -
I JUST GOT THE JOB OFFER!!! They are paying me well and with full benefits and they are going to pay for extended training on top of that!!
This internship was one of my better decisions! :)7 -
Just got a message from a recruiter that contained this sentence: "I have the JS attached for your review". Took me a while to realise JS meant job specification and not JavaScript (which is required for the role).1
-
Our company opened a job offer for a new teammember in our team.
Same skills and expertise as mine, but the minimum salary offered is more than I earn.
I decided to just apply for basically my own job and in a matter of 10 minutes I got a message by HR, asking why I applied and that this is basically a position in my team. After I explained the reasons, I got a message from my boss 5 minutes later, who wants to talk to me live tommorow about that.
Gotta say, fastest response and invitation I ever got on an application.25 -
Few months ago I stopped making anything on WordPress (code style wasn't for me, less reinventing the wheel), yet got offered well paid job with mostly WP responsibilities.
People ask me - why I stopped making stuff on WordPress? Welp...9 -
I got a LinkedIn message from the HR from my previous company about a job opening as if I never existed and never met them before. I'm just a profile to them.
Stupidity level: HR11 -
Just spoke to my boss about the fact I got another job offer.
Possibly the roughest meeting I've ever done.15 -
Got the laptop from the job.
Sadly we will develop in .net and angular.
Machine has windows and i can't use them but whatever it's a job so i have to adapt.
Turned up the machine, needed 30mins to set it up.
Meh. I miss my vim and i3wm.
HELP6 -
For those who paid attention to my heated London interview excursion:
I got the job, I'm now employed by Cisco systems!!!!!!9 -
Im one of the people who got laid off due to covid19. I was hoping to find work at the same salary my previous job paid me at the very least. A friend of mine pointed out the fact that since i've been in the industry a while that I could ask for a lot more than what I made. I didn't believe him, but since my wife agreed, I've been asking for double my previous salary. I actually got a job that met my ask. I'm glad to say that after being afraid I was getting in over my head, I can actually do this. Glad my friend told me my worth and I hope others have friends that can do the same for them.14
-
got a call from a recruiter for a job. said "wokey, let's see what you got to offer"
get to the interview, the first question is "why do you want to work in our company?"
me: i don't know, you called me!1 -
Thought i knew JavaScript, the truth is i dont, and got a job where it requires only pure JavaScript 😭17
-
I recently got my first job ever as a developer. And I don't know how long the feeling will last; but I have to say it's an awesome feeling to get paid for what you love doing! I hope you guys share this feeling with me12
-
I did it! I FUCKING DID IT! I got the new job, where I am paid better and won't get abused! The culture is better, pay is better!
My struggle now! Do I do finger guns to my current boss after telling him? I hate that asshole.13 -
I got a job. A job where I get to sit in front of a computer. I don't know what I'm doing yet... Developer is in the job title description. I'm scared. I'm excited. But most of all, I'm really glad that I get to stop stacking boxes for a living.17
-
I just recently started my first job as a full stack programmer (still studying at university). I got assigned one month to code a complete front end to our api. Now, 4 days before release day the owner of the company makes breaking changes to the api.
Just. Beautiful.1 -
Got a new job as a Full Stack Engineer. Moving to a new city. Feeling extremely nervous and a bit scary (cause I don't speak the language). Sitting here browsing devRant to ease up and relax.9
-
HR manager: we just realized we underpaid you a lot in the last 4 years, for all the job you are doing. You'll get 30% pay rise from now on.
Outer Me: thanks, great!
Inner Me: ....shit...
I got the raise, I looked for another job and found it in 4 months. 60% pay raise, better role.3 -
Haven’t posted here in a while, life has changed lots since last time. I applied to a new job in September/ October last year, called in for 1st round of interviews in December, got job offer in Valentine’s Day this year. I got a 42% Pay rise increase by going from private media company to governmental company.
Plus the annual pay and pension negotiations just got completed (all gov employees), so that’s a 1.55% payrise. And because I’m in an union, I might get another 1.24% payrise later this year.
So now I work at the National Archives of Norway. Which is just awesome.
Attaching a picture of my new desk, just missing the new 27” monitor I added on the left side.4 -
I got my very first dev job! After first making it to an interview where I didn't think I did all too well, I got a boost when on the 22nd December they called me asking for a referral. I gave them one but the person could not be contacted before the 23rd - close to xmas.
After an agonizing wait over the xmas period I finally got the call today. One hell of a way to start the new year!
I got a summer job (full time student) doing actual coding! I am so pumped!!!9 -
So, I applied for a job lately and the first interview via Zoom went pretty good. Then I got an invitation for a second interview at the company.
I got there, was guided into a conference room and the two head of departments along with an HR woman joined. After a bit if chit-chat HR rep said I should tell them in the next couple of days if I'm still interested. HR left, the other two gave me a tour of the complex, lasting about an hour.
then we got back to the conference room, waited for HR rep and when she arrived she told me something along the lines of "Yeah, we got an impression of you now and you don't need to contact us anymore if your are interested...."
me to myself: "wait what? that sucks...."
HR: "We are impressed enough of you that we want to hire you immediately. Here is the contract!"
me (completely speechless): "oh... OH... THANKS, but... OHHHH" (having a stupid perplexed grin on my face)
I mean... I got the job and pay is good, but PLEASE don't trick me like that!!! I nearly got a heart attack!!!7 -
Living in a somewhat rural area, local dev jobs are hard to come by. So I decided to look for remote jobs.
I got in touch with a ceo of a company within our capitol, and the process was moving forward rather quickly. Until we got to discussing the salary. The seo had mention something about what he thought was the mininum and maximum salary. I said I needed to think about it for a bit, as the salary was a bit below the national average - but still was higher than I make in my current job.
I later responded with a suggestion a little higher than he suggested, thinking that we were in a negotiation situation. Oh, I was so wrong. This message was met with total radio silence. It's the first time I've been ghosted by a company.
Several weeks later, I got a message saying they hired someone else. That kind of treatment makes me glad I never got the job.2 -
So I quit my job and am currently serving my notice period. I do the hiring for my team (lead dev). Today I got an email from a recruiter trying to recruit me for my current role ....6
-
WannaCry hit one of our server and the latest backup we had was from May 2017. You know who got blamed? Developers. I repeatedly told the General Manager that SysAdmin are the once who should be doing backups, Server updates and management as per their job description yet we got blamed for it.
I don't know what the fuck is going in this world.9 -
I just got a response from a recruiter saying that I didn't pass the screening because "they need people with degrees". Why the fuck didn't you mention that in your job requirements before wasting my time? Fuck recruiters and their degrees!!6
-
I got really pissed off with this company. Why you ask? Well, first off they send me an email for applying with them for a job. Ok, harmless. I wait a couple of weeks and they send me another email. I'm excited, perhaps I got the job! NOPE it's the fucking same email for the fucking same job. I half assed their application the second go around because I was pissed off with them. In their section about uniqueness I essentially gave them the finger.3
-
Started a new job.
Got called at 8.30 on Tuesday with the question:”Where the hell are you? You should be starting today!”. I replied:”I thought I started on Friday?!?”. We were both wrong, I should have started on Thursday 😑.4 -
After 5 years in retail, I finally got a job in the programming branch.
After two months of working with WordPress I finally got a website that isn't in WordPress!!
I'm so fucking pleased right now!!!6 -
My dad was a computer engineer, taught me a bit, my high-school boyfriend (now husband) studied computer science, and I studied liberal arts. I couldn't get a job but got at job at my husband's startup. I learned a lot on the job and started doing tutorials online and I am the only person in my MA cohort with a job. Always been comfortable in the tech/dev world but didn't get into it myself until last year.2
-
I GOT A PROPER DEV ROLE!!
The days of bemoaning the quality of devs on a product and logging tickets that never get addressed are coming to an end!
Edited: autocorrect changed it to "loving", somewhat optimistically7 -
Got a new job as devops.
Got brand new thinkpad on day 0, it was waiting for me out of the interview room.
I think I'll like it here 😃
Only thing I'm thinking about is if I should continue with doing devops/sysadmin or go back to programming...15 -
When somebody started bragging about his superior coding skill then I said that talk is cheap and that I wanted to see code (for some reason, this pissed her off) and then she started to DDoS me :^)
spoiler alert: she got a huge fine for it AND got fired from her job (whose servers she used to perform the DDoS)11 -
My last post was over a month ago about updating my CV to escape this place.
Pleased to report I got the job 😎3 -
On my first dev job ever, I got sent to the client's office after studying CSS on my own for 2 weeks.
Client: "So, you're the great expert your manager told me about?"1 -
I might lose my Job. Thanks to Central Bank of Nigeria's shenanigans, a promising FinTech startup might be about to go under.
Last month I got married, last month I got a raise. This morning, got told I'm being put on compulsory leave without pay (same as everyone).
Expecting no salary this month. I guess I'll be fine with some Laravel/Flutter freelancing.
Now, how to break the news to my wife. She knows I love my job, she's gonna be even more heartbroken/worried than I am. We were supposed to move to a bigger apartment next month when yearly rent here is due.
I guess we'll be alright. It is what it is.8 -
Got rejected and humiliated during a job interview by a team leader. Depression hit me so hard that I began crying as soon as I got out of the company building. I feel like there's no place for a fucking noob like me.28
-
I got the job! 🥳 🎉
One company wanted me to wait a little over a week because they had other final round interviews going on. Meanwhile, during that time, I got an offer, but declined because of lower than expected salary and higher salary on the other potential offer. Later, they got back and increased the salary and changed the role to Lead. Got the role after one more round of interview. 😁10 -
oh btw (can't beleive I forgot to rant about it here!)
i finally got that juicy 6 figure job ;)
i start soon...
thanks ya'll for getting me through the pain and suffering that was this summer's job hunt
but... back to the wagey wagey life... so... ☠️17 -
I once got fired for being sick and show up at the office without doctor certificate, crazy thing i got better job same day then posted to LinkedIn haha1
-
Just got my first job as a software Developer (java). Soo freaking scared that I can't live up to the challenge. Has anyone ever felt this way on their first coding job?15
-
I brought in my friend who's a Java developer (and I respect very much) for a job interview with my boss at the time. I sat in for the interview. My boss' first question to him was "Do you suck cock?"
He got the job.6 -
I got an interview tomorrow!!! It's the second one for this company and hopefully I'll be out my shitty job soon!5
-
!rant
In the past week I simultaneously got my degree in the mail and landed a pretty sweet job at a startup that I start working for tomorrow. Things are looking up!5 -
Couple of weeks ago I posted that I failed my first interview by phone. Today I got the news that I'm hired at a different company for my first development job. Python here I come baby5
-
Am I the only one who loved coding - I could spend hours and hours on my personal projects; but after I finally got a job, I'm just too exhausted from coding at work to do any coding at home? How did you overcome it?7
-
Just got a job as a junior PHP dev. Company is really chill as long as the work gets done. I can learn a lot here, and I am doing backend stuff mostly.
Got a great PC with 2 big screens and Ubuntu freshly installed by me.
Loving it so far!4 -
I passed my exam (did well even), signed up to be a blood donor and landed a job interview all in one day. If all days could be like that.. Now to go look my coworkers in the eyes like I'm not getting ready to jump ship but I'm secretly so excited I can barely sit still 🤭😂
(yes I know a job interview doesn't equal I got the job already, thanks and calm the fuck down, dads 🙄 only an idiot would only have one other thing lined up. Plan C, D and E are on standby too)5 -
Decided i wanted a new job, got an invite for a cup of coffee at a great tech company the same day. Bizarre.1
-
Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. This is weird to me - the job is for a small firm (20 employees), and my current is huge (~25-30k). Now I can work from home when I need it, and flexible hours (aka, get in whenever I feel like it). New job had in contract "No remote working" and "Work hours are 0800-1600".
Think I'm gonna turn em down.. Fuck being locked down like that, honestly.15 -
So I finished uni three weeks ago. Interview for a my first junior web developer position a week ago.
Received news yesterday that I got the job. It’s been a good couple weeks I’d say.3 -
I was impressed with my latest job interview in the government (got the job).
Applied online, and they extended the application deadline because the lack of quality of applications.
I got invited for an interview. Present there were HR manager, Department manager and an employee from the regional office (opening a new dev department in the region).
Most of the interview consisted of them telling me about the company, and asking a bit about me. Nothing technical.
1.5 month later I got a 2nd interview. Present were two developers from the main office in Oslo. Again, very little questions about my technical capabilities. Mostly just repeating the stuff said in the first interview. Though I did have to send some code in for review by them.
A month later I get a phone call from the department head saying they’d like to offer me a job, but they don’t have a concrete job offer yet, as it has to be approved by a committee (gov stuff). That takes two weeks, and I finally got job offer. 42% pay rise from the current job in the private sector.
I later went and re-read the ad for the job. “Bachelor/ master required. For particularly qualified applicants, this requirement can be ignored.”
Fascinating that they didn’t give me more tests.2 -
I freaking got the job this Monday!
How I did it? Well I suppose I just match the type of person that the company needs. Not in skills but in soft skills. Communicative, honest, motivated to learn new things.
Finally after 5 month unemployment! So happy :D1 -
I got the job and wow that was fast. I applied for the job on monday at 2 am and they sent me the contract on tuesday (today) at 10pm. Thats 44 hours from the first mail until I got the contract :D
Also: I just love it, the company seems to be exactly what I was looking for5 -
I got my first job, first work is monday
I still worrying about this job might be one of the many small shitty company horror story.
I don't know shit about working, so I decided to find out myself. Wish me luck.7 -
"No, I have not used c++.
No, I have not used mfc.
No, I have not used Pervasive database.
Goodbye. 😢"
BUT! I got the job!3 -
Everyone says "don't lie, don't bluff", but all those years ago I put my foot in the door and got my first ever dev job by pretending I knew what JavaScript was. It all worked out in the end.2
-
- Why should we give the job to you?
- Because, according to LinkedIn, you are searching for a JS dev for 11 months at least...
(I got the job :)) -
I had a dream where I got a job at SpaceX. Long story short, rockets fell from the sky, people died, and Musk got really angry. I don't think I'll be applying at SpaceX anytime soon.2
-
I got the job! Here we go to the "I have no idea what I'm doing" phase of life again. Thanks guys and gels. 😂4
-
Last I started my new job, and I got 2 new laptops (one from my job, amd a separate from the client, as I'll be there full time for at least a year). The work one was pricy af imo (P50, ~2500$ ex. VAT), then I got the client one... wtf is wrong with these people, the laptop cost fucking 6000$ (again, ex. VAT).
Now on the personal side I'm cheap as fuck, and the current laptop I use is one that was meant to be scrapped at my old job that I took home to fix. While it's fun getting those laptops, my brain cannot stop thinking "why the fuck do I need 64 gb ram, 2tb storage and 500gb NVME ssd to basically write text?"16 -
"So I have this awesome app idea..."
Proceeds to tell me, "I'll be, like, the face of the company, and you can just focus on the tech stuff, in the background."
Chad called me ugly nerd, so I took his idea, got an investment from his own father, built the company, and sold it.
See Chad got a new job as a sales development rep
At the company I built and sold
Haha epic2 -
Went to a job interview for ASP.net even though I don't know ASP.net since they asked me to come. I got the job since I was the only candidate that knew what OOP is.
I don't really want to work there.5 -
Finally got a job I see myself staying in more than 2 years :) A boss that give us time to write / read blog posts.
Flexible work life.
Working with all the new stuff like dotnet core, docker :) -
My brother, who is a programmer too, throwed the big java book at me and said: Read this and you'll have a job. So I read it and got a job. I'm a practical learner, so I just picked up the basics from the book. OOP and all that I learned while working. It was like a decently payed apprentice position. But I was my own teacher.3
-
Apply for a job, pass the application stage, pass the practical demonstration and get invited for interview.
2 other candidates dropped out before the interview. It was an internal position for me, the other two were externals.
I still got made to interview for the position even though I was the only suitable candidate and everybody in the organisation knew me from my current role.
Why HR? Why?
P.S. I got the job.2 -
Few weeks passed, and I as a freelancer without job all I did was seek for one and couldn't find anything.
Now I'm overwhelmed with all the work and interviews I got in the past weeks xD
Never balanced...
No work at all, or too much work.3 -
!rant
Hey guys, sorry for disappearing... I haven't been in my good days lately.
Other than that... two days ago I said fuck you to my burn out, got tired of doing nothing and start job hunting.
Yesterday I've sent 3 e-mails.
Today I got phone calls for 2 Interviews.
That's the good part of being good at a specialized job :D1 -
When I started on the job I was placed underneath a senior employee.
Never got as much training as I wanted to.
Bc less then a week later they messaged in the group chat they were quiting.3 -
Hmm, I had plans to quit my job, but then the company got orders worth 3 million dollaros and will continue to get every three month now.6
-
I guess I've just got the ideal dev job. Working from home, with nice people in my team and enough time to deliver quality work.8
-
Got released from the miltary after 3 years of CyberSecurity/Sysadmin role.
2 weeks layer I got a job as security sysadmin in a large telco company.
Still wish to be dev instead though -
I officially got a call that i start a job from 15th december
That's my first job after graduating with a computer science degree, and it took exactly 421 days later.
This is depressing and sad. Im not even interested in starting a job. I hoped they will reject me just like the other 10,468 jobs. Im not used to getting accepted.
I have to finish my side project within these two weeks asap rn7 -
I had a job interview today. Things got a bit awkward when the guy doing the interview (a head of tech) brings into the interview one of their midweight devs and I became the interviewer rather than the interviewee.2
-
I created a rant a few weeks back, about a job i applied for and the HRM followed me on github. Guess what, I got the job finally :D :D :D1
-
Got a job at a great company but I have to move out (I am Canadian and I got a job at Seattle)
How do I say that to my very... "possessive" boss?
Last time someone tries to quit, he threatened to sue them....
(something to do with the NDA contract saying you can't work in a similar job for the next year)8 -
I got a new job! 🎉
I'll be starting next month.
I had two offers. The first company tried to offer me less than expected, but I was able to negotiate. But after some more consideration, I accepted the second offer.
[I have some more stories from my job hunt that I'll post later.]3 -
In case you are interested:
My new job is so damn awesome! I had pain in my jaw for weeks, I got a teething rail for the nights, but the pain was still there. Since I am on my new job it's totally gone. I am so much more relaxed and more productive now.
Life is good! -
In early 2016 I got a front end web development job.
<1 month later, was fired from thatfront end web development job.
Reason: After several years focused primarily on social media marketing, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and couldn’t catch up fast enough to what their shop was using. My coding skills were way more out of date than I ever anticipated.
In retrospect, the only reason I got the job was that their 3rd party skills testing website repeatedly wouldn’t submit my results and didn’t change up the questions, so by the time it finally did, I had guessed 90% of the answers correctly. I registered as a false positive and that was, apparently, enough for their HR person. -
Referring to my previous rant
https://devrant.com/rants/1274499/...
Now I got a job as a java developer. 😑😑😑
Karma bites you in the ass.3 -
The story of how I got my new job (I will start in december) even though it is not a dev related one:
I was about to reduce my work hours, because my wife was getting a really good job. We couldn't both work full-time, because our son is in kindergarten. Then she broke her ankle and the job was gone. Right at this point I was offered a job at a friends company. I knew him by being an intern in his company.
Things always go well in the end.1 -
When I applied to my current job I was imedialety called to an interview. I was greeted by my soon-to-be coworkers and we entered the room where the interview was going to be held.
The boss walked accross the room and opened a door in the wall, took out three beers and asked if I wanted some too. I declined because I had a 3 hour drive home. Still got the job.6 -
I had good support.
I got access to a computer at 10 when my mother brought home the ones they used for education to avoid them being stolen
That was a couple of sinclair ZX80
I the got to go to 5 different programming courses over the next 4 years before being able to get a summer job at 14 to by my own spectravideo 128.
At 1) I started teaching through mother job and at 18 I wrote my first commercial program for my father.
I am now 50 and still in the business:)3 -
Had a job interview yesterday and I was so nervous, couldn’t think straight at all so I figured there’s no chance of me getting the job.
And just now i got an email saying they want another interview..... what? how? huh..?4 -
Got an interview request for a new job. They mostly do WordPress. I don't want to touch WordPress.
Talked to the Project Manager woman on the phone about the job, seems decent.
Sounds like a nice place to work at, but I just can't do the WordPress thing, man.7 -
Is it too much to ask for companies in the current world to be.. oh I don't know.. honest and consistent?
If you advertise on your Job section: "We always give our candidates feedback, whether they got the job or not". Then, *****, give them feedback! I applied and they never got back to me. And no, that's not feedback.6 -
Resigned from a job I got before my last semester of Masters where I worked almost two years. Boss started acting bad at the end and my work was really stressful.
Now I don't have a job and running out of money.
Have a job interview next week where I have a slight chance of getting it. Hope ai get it!4 -
About 3 years at a job I worked at, management moved my work desk right next to the toilet.
I had enough. I got up, packed my things and left the office without saying anything to anyone and got another job a week later.
Have you ever quit on the spot? If so, what was your breaking point?7 -
“You want to know the answer to that” is the answer I got to my question about a piece of code...
I guess he thought he’s too good for the job.
The dude had decent amount of knowledge but was arrogant as fuck.
Every time I asked him a question he would react as if I was making him work without pay that too on a Sunday (it wasn’t)
P.S. fucker got rejected2 -
The coincidence is that I got hired today only! This was my first job interview. I am a student. Not sure if it gets counted as my last job selection but i am super happy. ;)
Thanks devRant for this special topping. 😁 -
if(!dev_related && is_life_related) ReadOn();
So today I received 4 job rejections... 4 in one day...
That raises my rejection tally for just this year 48, I just want a fucking job! Even got confirmation that 3 of the 4 rejections were because I only have 2 prior job locations... THATS THE FUCKING PROBLEM!
You complain about me not having prior jobs so you don't let me have a chance at other jobs...
No fucking wonder unemployment is a thing -.-4 -
I am now a free man.
I got exempt from the military service by fattening myself up, I've never been happier for failing an exam (the medical exam) 😊
Now comes the time for extreme dieting and finding a job abroad to gtfo outta third world9 -
I don't know why universities dont tech version controlling.. i used to save backups of my final year project as a RAR files. I mean when I started the job and got to know the git. It was enlightening..7
-
Well, I got it. The new job that is so from December first I really am a C# developer :)
We just have to agree on the salary. I will at least get more then I have now (as support technician) and well it's kinda a dream come true.2 -
Got internship opportunity. It's just an internship, but still it feels exciting and surreal for me. It feels weird because there is not really anything exciting about salary.
I guess it's the "my first job opportunity" butterfly.2 -
Been so long, sup guys. bringing you good news (at least for me).
just got accepted on my new job. the funny thing is. i legit put "Made 16 bit CPU in Minecraft" on my resume. LMAO6 -
One time I got an offer for a job I had found through a recruiter. When I wasn't sure if I was going to take the job, and it became clear to the recruiter that he wasn't going to be able to convince me, he had his "manager" get on the phone to try to tell me why I needed to take the job. One of the reasons was "because I was a recent college graduate and wasn't a CS major (I was a minor but had a lot of experience), this was the best offer I could get." It thought it was pretty sad that they resorted to insulting me to try to get me to take the job so they could get their commission. Sleeaaazzzyyy.2
-
I got an email about the job opening of a "HTML Developer" in a leading telecom company in our country.
A HTML Developer? Really ? Are you expecting a html only website in this day an age? How can you be a "leading company" when you did not even know the correct term for a front end web development job post3 -
I got home from my day job today to work on a side client's project that is due tonight.
Realized I'd left my laptop with all my setup for the project at the office.2 -
awww shit dog, I got the job! Now they wanna know which OS I want installed on my company computer. Wondering if maybe I'm still secretly being interviewed....7
-
I'm glad I have a job where we don't have team 'building' nonsense. We just come in and we team-build on the spot, as in, we get along.
Oh, the nightmare of my previous job where they resented employees for not joining some stupid party where they all got drunk and had forced 'fun'. I like authentic environments.5 -
Got into a fight with a teammate last week (acting PM, she was) over how she basically failed to do her job.
Got blamed for talking about it by project owner. (basically, they wanted to make themselves feel good by passing down the blame down the blame chain... But I rebelled)
... Don't want to walk into the same meeting tomorrow. 😢😔😞8 -
What tf is matlab
I got a job for the summer, and I had to learn it by myself
Is it really a pain in the ass or is it just complicated to learn ?12 -
!Rant
Got my first job last week as a junior gameplay programmer. Dream job 😁
Well, more like a dream position than the actual dream job.
Proprietary engine and a new language are kinda hard to wrap my head around, but I've been having so much fun that by the time 4 rolls around I usually don't notice it and stay for an hour or so more.
I love it!4 -
I got the job offer XD it's not a big pay increase from what I was making before, but honestly I'd have taken a pay cut to get out of my current fucking job. Hell, I was one more overly dramatic angry email away from quitting on the spot and going to work as a stock boy in some walmart or something.
-
I got my last job more or less by luck.
The freelancer platform I was active on, had once an offer for 100.- if you find a parttime webdev for some small business.
I was looking for this kind of job anyways to finance my parttime study so I wrote back.
15 minutes later, their boss called me and wanted to meet me for an interview.
3 days later, at the interview, we talked roughly 10 minutes about my experience and then it was all about the upcoming project and at the end, about when I want to start and what I want as my salary.
Needless to say I got the job and the best: Also the 100.- 😎 -
My leaders asked me to run the technical interviews for a position I have been asking for since I got this job. Because I am the only in the team that codes for Android. Am I friend-zoned in my job ?5
-
The company who said i passed the interview and got the job is not sending me email from hiring department to schedule interview. They said they gonna do it. But the recruiter told me they have a high demand of interviews so i guess they dont have time to reply to me back and hire me officially? Im still waiting its been a few days.
Or is this a slow sign of these shitfucks pulling back and will ghost me or reject me for no fucking reason even after telling me i passed and got the job but now they changed their minds for no reason?8 -
I was in school looking for intern places when a teacher told the class he had an amazing company for about 20 students. Got the intern job by doing my first ever job interview. After a year I got a traineeship while still in school (3 days school, 2 days work).
Now I have a job there, which for now is helping new interns and trainees while sales is searching for projects for me. (I work at a company which "sells" developers for a certain time, Im not sure what the english term for "detachering" is) -
My worst and yet kinda best experience. Internship.
Me: I mean I had this idea of [ this ] but I could never do this myself.
He: You got me. Do this now.
Two times. One time in the job interview as a "challenge" to get the job (model+sculpt a 3D head) and once for a clients website (parallax (from scratch)).
It was hard but I'm glad I made it and learned a lot these weeks.. -
First proper day of work today.
Started at 11. Listened to multiple guys shout about how much everyone made in this crap-infested cesspit of a sales job.
Got to a city I'd never been in at 2.
Walked around in the fucking rain knocking on doors till 9.
Got on the bus at 11.
I earned £20 the whole fucking day, which I'm not even going to get for a fucking month.
I'm would firebomb the office tomorrow, but I need this job. Badly :/.12 -
The day tours would like be fired would be like:
Boss: how have you done that job?
Me: <<taking glitter from my pocket while i describe a arc>> It's Magic
Then you unlock the "you got epicly fired" achievement -
Got my first job and was given the temporare title programmer.
He said I could choose any title (with some relevance). Opportunity of a lifetime, any suggestions?
I will be doing some deep learning, UI, general front-end and visualizations12 -
Hello all, I was wondering how some of you guys manage stress on the job? I recently got a new "real" job as a lead php dev working 9-5 in down town Houston. I must say, this "normal" work schedule is kicking my ass. I'm constantly exhausted, stressed out and am now having second thoughts about the position. What should I do?9
-
Got appraises on first day of my job by reducing the calls to redis by half.
All I did was replace SET and EXPIRE with SETEX.1 -
Remember that time I did an interview and it went horribly and I wanted to die then got called back and aced that shit? Well I got the job. Pay is bunkers too. Excited to be part of a new very cool project.2
-
Just got interviewed for a project today. The interviewers knows i am a fresher and the last thing that they told me after the entire interview was that the job requires a 4 yr experience!!! I was standing there and wondering why am i being interviewed then and how was my profile selected for the job 😂2
-
Some years ago I was on vacation with my wife. Everytime we were at the swimming pool, I worked on a really small side project. About 4 months later, I had an interview for my first Job as a developer. I showed them this project and got the job 😁1
-
I just got a job as a "Web designer", but I've quickly learned that my job duties involve installing theme forest themes for clients and sticking to the template. I'm not allowed to write my own code. ever. uuuuuuuuggggghhhhhh5
-
So I had two job interviews yesterday. Except they both got cancelled due to the snow. Luckily I got them both rescheduled to next Monday. But I wasn't happy about the weather ruining my carefully crafted plans. Work gets more toxic by the day and I want to get out of here.2
-
Urgent: I got a coding camp JavaScript Instructor job very well paid expects answer tomorrow. I got another company wants me but they don't have offer as they must get permission from the CEO for a developer job. The developer job would pay less than instructor job
I don't know what the fuck to do. I would like the dev job for experience but I haven't worked for 3 fucking months.10 -
I just got out of working 10 hour days and alternating Saturdays at work for the head honchos to say "Yeah, you guys have a month before you're all laid off. We're giving your job to the group that helped you during the busy season."
So guess what I get to do: job hunt!
Except no one in my area is hiring Linux System Administrators and my wife doesn't wanna move.1 -
This story is really quite amazing.
I got into my current company thanks to keeping a friendship from a quasi-ex-girlfriend. She got me in contact with her husband, who besides being a fellow nerd was also a highly-respected guy inside the company. Which is to say his name carried quite a bit of weight, and got me an interview and ultimately a job.
I got in via Support, but finally got promoted to developer last year, and have been enjoying it quite a bit. -
I got two, both my internships sucked.
First one, I got hired for a C++ job, did JS for most of it. Half the team quit while I was there lol. I was in charge of the whole frontend when I left.
Second one, again half the team quit while I was there, leaving me with only ppl in Europe to talk to lmao.1 -
Just got my first job as a junior front-end developer. I am currently working on coding emails and holy crap trying to code for all different email clients. Never thought each client rendered stuff differently. (Outlook is the worst!)
But I am loving the job!5 -
I have an old manager that I worked with at an old job that got me shit canned for a failed web sockets implementation. He works at a new company and wants to talk.
What should I do?
A) I don’t trust this fucker. Ignore him.
B) Forgive and forget and try to get the job?
C) Something else.
D) SWAT the motherfucker.7 -
My wife got me a new job, now I have to quite to the current one before Saturday, I'm currently in charge of every process in engineering area.😰8
-
Best: Got my first dev job a month before I graduated my bootcamp. Was hired till rona layoffs started happening. Found another dev job 4 months later, and just received a promotion from said job just before going on holiday leave.
Worst: Being laid off for those 4 months. Sure unemployment + stimulus got me through financially, but mentally and emotionally I was starting to crack. I had thought I broke through the barrier with that first job and was going to be set. That layoff threw a wrench in my whole plan. In those 4 months unemployed I developed some imposter syndrome. Regardless, I plugged along with my side projects. One company was really impressed with one of them and was using a similar stack for an upcoming project, so luckily they ended up hiring me. Confidence restored.2 -
I am new at a company and I really like it. After one month I got a job offer from my most wanted company with a higher payment. Told my current boss. He said he is very happy with me and will give me a huge raise starting next year. I already got the details on contract.
What to do? Both jobs will pay me about the same. I love the current company and my colleagues but the new has much more challenging requirements and I feel like my life will get a little bit boring on the long run at my current job.7 -
Every time i got fired. So thats 6. At least in the past ten years. Every time i saw colleages get fired. So double that. Every 10nth job interview i went to. Maybe i should say i doubt my dev future every single fucking day.5
-
I got a job without trying very hard... Unless your consider all the time I spend coding hobby projects trying.3
-
I've been on the job hunt for a developer job for about two months now.
Last Monday I finally got my first response. Later that they a recruiter from a local telecom reached out saying they needed software engineers and wanted to meet.
Tonight is my first interview. Wish me luck. Feeling pretty great right now6 -
tests? ain't nobody got time foh dat. my brain already does all the job. it assumes and says to myself "all tests passed ✅" whenever i make quick changes
i like to live dangerously 😂1 -
I may be getting evicted due to landlord stupidity but at least I survived budget cuts and get to keep my job after internship. The full-time job offer will be emailed tomorrow
Two interns got cut but at least I and another intern survived.
But sadly now I have to go over my friends work and learn what they were doing well enough to continue it with the other survivor1 -
Hi guys! I need your help.
I'm currently facing a big decision.
I've got a job offer a couple of days ago. The new job would involve an 80% raise to my current salary, and I would make another step on the hierarchy ladder.
BUT
The new place is not a software development company. They have a small team working on internal stuff, but they are basically maintaining a 12 years old garbage.
My job would be, to design the new system from the ground up. At the moment, the new system has to do the same things as the old one, just faster and better. Then they'd like to extend it further.
The first part is not challenging, but the things that they planned in the future sound interesting.
The problem is, that my current company just got a new contract and I'm supposed to conduct the deploy (speaking with their managers, prepare their sites for installation, and install). And since it is a small startup, the deploy depends highly on me.
If I take the new job, then I have to start in February which ultimately means that I screw my current company real bad. They'll probably survive, but they might lose this contract and/or lose money.
If I do what makes economic sense, then I take the job. (fuck it's almost 2x as much!!) But I have mixed feelings about it.
I've got 48 hours to decide.
What do you guys think?7 -
Does any developer here does design work as well as code. I got pulled into it. was expecting a only dev job, according to the job description" but the creative team start handing me InDesign task and Photoshop task with no experience in design. is that crazy or normal for front end developers?10
-
So I know i did a best and worst case already for 2017
But apparently it's not finished yet!
This will probably a short one:
Best thing to happen to me this year: I applied for a VR game and despite at this very moment i'm in thr trial period (to see if I can do work) i've succesfully landed a job.
I've spent months rewriting and rewriting my CV applying for standard software dev jobs, either being turned down for not enough experience for Junior roles, where they want someone out of university, where I have 1 year of both iOS and android experience, that is still not good enough for their shitty little app.
After all of that effort I turned to just borrowing my head and developing my game, to the point i have bits of the game practically done (bare bones crafting and building works 100% just has bugs in some specific cases). A friend of mine got a game dev job and he helped me out by showing me what his CV and cover letter looked like, i mimiced the style (in a sense) and added my own specific additions for VR. At the exact same time i got an invite from unity connect (which i had totally forgotten about) which i then scowered through jobs until I found something awesone "a job for a unity VR developer".
After contacting the guy about the job, we ended up having a voice chat over discord and he seems pleased with the fact I tome on my hands! Sadly the job is not some hourly paid job, however from what i've seen from youtube gameplay footage it looks very well done, and that leads me to getting revenue share.
Anyways i'm just so happy that with a couple days to spare in the year LOL i got a job! Sure i won't get paid yet but I got a flipping job, it is what i wanted for christmas!!
It is a gamble being revenue share and all but i'm willing to risk it! -
I got my job by applying on Indeed. I know! Crazy, right? You apply for it and you get it. Pretty much never happens with these job sites because of crappy recruiters and clueless HR drones who tend to post and forget. I must’ve hit the luck lottery that day.3
-
I'm getting started on web development again. But I want to get the right tools for the job. I don't hate Dreamweaver. But I know there's got to be something better out there for me to use.15
-
I recently finished high-school and got a job in PHP Development. My employer told me to make a simple app wich OAuths you to your Discogs account and receive your library list. I got hired afterwards and now i work on a huge project which launches in less than 2 weeks. The day i got my job i havent worked with Laravel but ~ 3 days.
When you need to learn something due to the pressure, you'll learn faster. It's the same as learning a new language - I'd rather go to live in a country where it's mainly spoken that language and learn it due to the necessity than buy courses online. -
So related to my very first rant, after two months on the new job, I got the whole team together (including my boss) and taught them how version controlling works!5
-
Sometimes when I think to myself "I got this deadline but I have to do my job the right way" I remember that I'm opposing craftsmanship to economics. And sadly, economics always wins.
-
After graduating, me and my friends looked and applied for jobs immediately. Our first job interview consists of 2 additional interviews but sadly, I failed the second one (don't ask why) but all of my friends passed so I was really bummed out. But I still attended the final interview and surprisingly, they didn't know I failed and we all got the job.2
-
I got my last job from stack overflow jobs. They had me implement a code test that involved a decent amount of features and took several weeks of my freetime to complete, but in the end I had a short phone interview and I had gotten the job :D
-
I got a phone interview!!! Hope it goes better than my last one :') that one was for a web developer position and they asked me about stack vs queue and memory allocation. Idk why but I sure as shit didn't get the job.2
-
So my phone got stolen last night. FOR FUCK SAKE. I scrape together enough money to get another cheap phone after the last one broke, and now I need YET ANOTHER ONE WHEN I HAVEN'T GOT A JOB AND CAN'T APPLY FOR ONE WITHOUT ARGRFHUJGHIOSDJGBH:USKDGHISD:1
-
I've got a question for everyone.
I'm revamping my CV and I was thinking of lightening it a bit, but I'm not very experienced with CV's.
At my last development job, we would order breakfast cobs every Friday, and I would sort all the change out and order it etc.
Would it be wrong to add this to the end of my job history?4 -
Does anyone every get JOB from Linkedin ??
I am continuously applying from last 1-2 month and I just got.. Thanks for your interest but we are not moving with your application. No Matter if it is basic skill level Job or higher one? I wonder if I am the only one facing this13 -
I was away for a long time. Now I got a new job which means it's time to start ranting. Fuck this legacy code is worse. I mean, a fucking cat running after a mouse could write a better source code if he had somehow pushed buttons while doing its job. Every fucking best practice I know is crushed to bits. And the funny part is, this company/startup recently got $300.000 funding.2
-
Got the job. Not sure I want the job. Or any job in my field. A quarter century feels like too long for any profession. But I don’t have any other marketable skills. Maybe I’ll be a truck driver. Or wash peoples’ car windows when they’re stopped at traffic signals.9
-
Got a new job, joining next week, feeling scared and wondering how my co-workers will be, and if I will be abke to do assigned work properly ! I know the stuff but still..3
-
So today I got an email from an Indian recruiter for a job opportunity. He added a note to the email saying that he required a ‘Visa copy, Photo ID proof and passport number’.
No, thank you.1 -
The shit code I wrote before my cs degree is marginally better than the shit code I write now. The lack of of improvement is related to the shit job I got after my degree. Cs degree did teach me a lot of good oo concepts and design.... That I rarely use due to shit legacy code I maintain.1
-
Came back from China and told I may be losing my job. Cannot remember how many times I got fired on the spot.6
-
How many job applications did you send to get your first full-time job?
My friend applied for 200 jobs before he got one. I am in my 30s now, but my motivation has almost run out.
The future seems bleak.16 -
Hardly a how, but relatable.
I applied for a job at a genetics company as junior developer (6 months after graduation and no job in that time). I was sadly declined the position so thought why not apply as intermediate developer at the same company and what would you know I got the job. -
!rant
Today I got an interview for a cool job: Comissioning engineer with focus on PLC-programming.
So nervous, but so happy at the same time.3 -
If I ever got a job and they mainly make me use Excel for whatever reason I’m just writing a python script to do whatever they’re asking me to do then just do whatever the rest of the day.6
-
I applied for a full remote position and got a job offer. The contract however says that I need to be in the office 3 days a week. 2 hours commute one way...
What a waste of time2 -
Easy one,
Got there for job Interview,
Then a 1week internship with another person,
After the week they called me upstairs and said I got the job.
Few Weeks later I signed the contract.
And no the other Person didn't get the job but is now in the Same school and class as me. Irony is a bitch... -
Network (people not infrastructure)
My first programming job was because of someone I knew in college worked there. Strangely he also got me my fourth programming job.
My fifth job was a recruiter. First time that ever worked. But it does work.
The biggest thing to remember that in an interview you are selling yourself. So you need to understand a little of sales and marketing. -
In light of this week's topic - I need your thoughts. I am planning to quit my current job. In your experience, should I have another job before quitting or look for it full time. I just got my appraisal - will the salary at the new job match my increased salary or would it be the same. Note, I have only 1 year experience.6
-
Got a first job today! I'm still student, worked as freelance web dev for a few years already. BUT biggest problem with this new job that I supposed to use Windows :/ until now I used to use macOS and I loved it :/ I don't know how to feel, happy and sad at the same time...1
-
well I start my first dev job in a week and a half. after telling my family I was resigning from my helpdesk support gig, they asked about the pay and didn't understand why the dev job payed more.
I tried to explain it and I think about half of them got it but the older half still just associate it as "computer stuff" -
I remember studying up on web dev by myself, got advanced into php and all frontend stuff js, jquery, css, html. Coz all jobs in the country wanted those exact stuff. I got a job, 1.5 years later tried to look for other jobs, everyone wanted react, angular, vue, node... fucking market outdates u as u are working. Dont u hate that6
-
To the SysAdmins and Linux-Engineers here,
How you got into your job?
I'm a Linux-Fanboy by heart and love tinkering and fiddling with systems, so I want to work in the field?
Please tell me, how you got into your job, and how it is to work in the field.6 -
In order to be handsome, I tried to wash my face with handsoap.
So this is the only hands-on hand-job I got into. -
I told a guy I work with that I thought LinkedIn was a dating app. I was very confused when I got a job offer to work here. When at the time I was looking for someone in my life that had an interest in programming.3
-
My first ever interview and the interviewer seemed more nervous than me. Didn't get the job.
I did have an interview a couple of hours later elsewhere with a much better firm and got the job :D -
me: damn, that interview went so bad. this company will not offer me the job.
*1 month later
got the job offer as software engineer from the company.
should i accept it?lol1 -
ok,. so i've been into job hunting for a while and i found this rather attractive posting with reasonable salary and work hours, it clearly states "PHP Backend Programming With Laravel", so i applied, a day later, i got in contact with the employer via skype, and to my surprise, the employer told me that skills in c# is required because the job position is for a senior c# dev... smh2
-
Got a new job in data processing. Took them a couple days to get me a laptop and two weeks after that to get the core programs I need to begin working. Found out today that I *still* don't have access to everything I need for my job.3
-
IMO it depends to what one means by "made it".
switch(made_id) {
case "is a developer" -> "when one develops a software product, regardless of whether for work or personal purposes";
case "got a dev job" -> "when one gets a dev job";
case "can be called a dev" -> "when job title has .*developer.* in it";
case "is a good dev" -> "when job title has .*senior developer.* in it";
}
For me personally it means getting a SW development job that pays my bills and keeps growing my savings account. Pretty much like @AlmondSauce said it.
I for one iterated through all the cases above and each time I achieved the goal I felt like I "made it".
Appetite comes with eating -
I started a new job, got through on-boarding and took my first ticket. Made my modification to the code base and the tests fail .. each time I run them .. on different tests .. randomly.
What the hell have I gotten myself into?3 -
Finally got a job offer, just waiting on the official letter, I am eager to hand my two weeks in. I'm even tempted to quit outright once I have the offer letter. (No one is under me, there's no training I can provide, no needed bridges would be burned)4
-
Just because I didn't get the logic of your labyrinth testing script doesn't mean I'm a bad programmer! Why the fuck do you choose which programmers to get with a Shit labyrinth JS script. I got all the programming right and now I probably won't get the job because of this.
Oh yeah and I did apply for a php job btw. -
That moment people assume you don't know things because you are generally quiet because they are around their friends. Uhm, I got the job and had to go through months of interviews, tests, video chats, probation periods and got the job almost 3 months earlier than I should and got promoted to a better team, you don't see me trying to demean your job as a call center consultant here around all the developers I know. Just lemme drink my coffee in peace :(
-
It's been six and half years since I am working my ass off this corporate company, last promotion I got was three years ago, again today new college hire who graduated after the year I did, joined later than I did, he got promoted to level higher than me, why bcs he built mobile apps ? I never got to touch on mobile apps forget even developing, since I kept working on what they put me too. I hate this worlds this job and whole career of engineers3
-
I would give myself so much shit for this.
Sales cloud architect, if I needed the money.
I give sales so much shit, like you've got no idea how much shit. I almost lost my job because I called the sales team at my job "soulless husks of meat and sin".
It's not an easy job but damn I was really fucking good at it.
If money was no problem, I would probably become a restoration artist.
I love to restore old homes, furniture, tvs, radios, etc. -
I got in contact with a teacher I had at school many years ago and went to meet him, just generally chatting. He had a job offer to teach some children coding for a week at local library but he didn't have the time to do it alone. A few weeks later and I was the primary tutioner for the course with a bit help from said teacher.
I also had some experience with electronics which I incorporated, blowing some components up, show them Arduino's etc. And I can say most of the children seemed really interested and hopefully a few continued after the course.
Either way, I got a really good reference from the library and got a couple more job offers from both them and some other libraries. Finally got a use for the company I registered in 2014. -
After a horrible 11 months in probation I quit from my shitty job and got a new job with better benefits, better pay, better working hours and better co-workers (we'll see if that lasts).
However this new job turns out, I'm glad I got out of the toxicity of my old job and finally have some hope that things might work out after all.7 -
Got a job related travel to a good city on Thursday. I took the Friday as holiday, I will enjoy the city. Normally, I could return on Thursday back with colleagues. I plan to ask company to arrange my return ticket on Saturday or Sunday. Cool or not cool?7

I start programing in 8th grade as hobby, write games. I got job in just 50$ a month.
The part is, I work 3 years in same.
Now after 13 years of work I got a job here in my current company, where we developers got our desired respect. I can say a good sallery too.
But I think sallery doesn't matter mucch, if your bosses are not nuts and they can understand the problems of developers. -
Write every dev project (even the smallest ones) you have ever done on your CV. I once used an obscure Python module in a really small project, but they desperately needed someone w/ experience with it. It was the reason I got that job.2

Got called on company phone while being in home office. Somehow through VPN + RDP session it got routed to my laptop, but connection was really bad and we could hardly understand each other, i.e. I had to guess that it even was a recruiter.
Guy however was really nice, but I failed the interview to a job I did not really want. -
After a few months finally got and accepted a job offer, starting the 19th. Now its all nerves and learning another system. Feeling like i know nothing, but know google will become my best friend again5

Does any one work or live at Brno (Czech Republic)? I just got a job there and the pay is good. I'll be relocating.1

Last job and current job I got mostly the same way. Current job was done slightly more effectively.
Here is what I did both times:
* Each day I checked all the job sites for developer jobs in the locations I was willing to travel to. I made bookmarks to various search pages so I could quickly see the results.
* I regularly searched for websites of any IT companies or large corporations that had offices in those locations. I bookmarked these and would check each day to see if they had job openings on their websites.
* Every job I applied for I made a folder with the date and job description.
* Inside the job folders I made a notes.txt file with the wording of the job and links to the ad. I googled the company and added notes like peoples names, etc. to these notes files.
* For every job I made minor alterations my resume to make sure it aligned with the job ad and copied it to the job folder
* I created another text document called cover_letter.txt which had a written letter describing all my experience that matched with the job ad
* Where possible I would call and speak with someone to get more detail about the job and updated the letter and resume accordingly
* Finally I would email or post the letter and resume
Using this method I was able to apply to several jobs every day and I was able to reuse and improve on the letters as the weeks went by. Also since I applied for a lot of jobs when someone replied I had the job ad available to look at.
For both last and current jobs I moved countries. The difference was between last and current was the previous time I moved first then started looking and for my current job I started looking before I moved. For the current job employers seemed to welcome my situation and I had several job interviews lined up for after my arrival. I felt it put me in a better light since I was essentially unavailable until my arrival date compared to before when I was unemployed and looking and getting desperate.
The job I have now I was interviewed while overseas on skype and then in-person the day after landing in the country. They quickly told me I would be hired. It seemed good so I canceled the other interviews. Sorry no exciting circumstances.1 -
I got my last job (current job) exactly 3 years 3 days back. That was 2nd interview of my life with 2 days of interview process having 1 round. Then I was hired as 1st developer of the startup.
Funny thing is that 1 month before I got this job, one person approched me to develop an internal system for his company, but cancelled the deal once he knew I hadn't worked anywhere. -
Heyo, I got a last-minute interview tomorrow as a Windows Admin for the datacenter and pc-pools of a university in my state.
This will be my first interview for a real job, after my apprenticeship, and my second interview overall.
You got any tips for what I should prepare or what questions I should ask?2 -
I was on vacation during spring break and was supposed to start on a contract-to-hire the following Tuesday. Towards the end of the week the recruiter tells me the company got delayed on paperwork because of accounting (no funds). Thankfully, my current job accepted me that week until I could start the new job. Friday of the week I got back they tell me I can start Monday. That evening my current job (startup) comes back with a solid counteroffer and here I am. If they would've taken me in after my vacation I wouldn't be at my current job.

Me: "I got the job! I write computer programs now!"
Mom: "I'm so proud of you, -bgm-. Does that mean you can come over and take a look at my computer now? The speakers, whenever I go on Facebook, they make this popping noise--"
Me: "Gotta go, ma." -
My gf got a new job and needs to learn some programming. Hope she likes it.
On the other hand i appear to have a bore-out from work. So sick at home now and having to visit the doctor tomorrow. Ofcourse i’ve been going through the future conversation like a 100 times.
But i don’t think it’s a good sign if you burst out in tears at your job right?5 -
Recruiter either quit or got fired right after my job interview. It took me two weeks to find out i blew the job interview.
-
Not the best way a co worker has quit and not dev related. From a job I had for only a month the summer before I got my first position with the company I'm currently with. It was factory work, pretty crappy, no air conditioning, this guy started just after me hardly ever did his job and was just generally annoying as hell. One day I'm brought into HR and asked if I fucking shower. :| I do and did every day. Deoderent and all. I explained it's a hot work environment. They said I should just shower more. I've never heard such a dumb complaint filed against anyone. Of course I wasn't going to smell like daisies, it was hot as fuck in there. Anyway a week later got offered a new job, I didn't give any notice just walked to HR at the end of the day the day before I started my new job, said I'm out. They asked if they could get 2 weeks notice, with out hesitating I stated no, I start my new job tomorrow, here's my badge, bye. And walked out. :| This wasn't the only thing that made me quit but it was kind of a tipping point. Like ok don't like sweat smell? Then don't be on top of me or find a job with air conditioning.2

Not a rant/!rant
Got a new job, already learning a lot and nice and helpful colleagues. 😄 Except I find it really hard to get used to their codebase because it's huge! How long does it take for some of you to get used to the new code base of your new job?3 -
Got an invite from an recruitment agency, went for the exam. Was hoping I get rejected 😐😑😕 ( I never passed an exam). After exams went home.
.
.
Got a message on my phone " You are selected for interview".
.
.
Went there for the interview.
They asked very simple questions.
.
.
2 hours after.
.
.
The agency people calls my name.
.
You are selected for the job.
🙌
Now it has been 3 Years...1 -
ImgBurn has one of the weirdest sounds ever..
-job completed- Some kind of funny instruments jingling
-job failed- Sexy woman voice: "Oh no! :("
-you press 'stop job' more than once'- Sexy woman voice: "Hey! I said I got it!"
Lmfao.. -
So, I told the interviewer that my frontend skills are bad. He said that I should not worry as the tests where backend centered, good. Later, I got the job, now the interviewer, which happens to be the head of tech in the company I work for, has assigned me two tasks involving 99% of work on the frontend.
FFS, I've been searching on Internet and reading Kendo UI documentation for 4 hours to figure how to trigger the KendoGrid editable popup with populated data to enable the user to update such data. AAAAARGH!!!1 -
I got approached by a recruiter seeking an individual with extensive Linux experience. When it got to the in-person interview, they asked me how good in VBA I was... turns out the recruiter got a little creative with the given job description.
-
I'm a student, got an internship for the summer.
I thought i was going to be writing C++ code, as that was the job description.
Instead I'm doing fullstack development for a build test automation tool.
It's not terrible (there's definitely a loy of nice stuff), but i definitely do not want to do fullstack permanently (no offense).
Hopefully i can get a non fullstack job next time, but i wish I'd done that this time. -

Follow up rant of my previous rant about the job interview I had.
I did it. Today I finally got an offer from them. So happy right now.
I just can't wait to have in the resignation for my current job.1 -
!Rant. My previous job hunting experience was great. I joined a platform that focuses not only on getting the best candidate for the company, but also the right fit for the candidate. After my coding test, I recieved a T-shirt and a book as a welcome gift. I also got partnered with a talent advisor. I received multiple interview requests on my first weekend and found my dream job by the following Wednesday. I then got a signing bonus in my first week and a expensive bottle of champagne from them to say good luck. The only problem I have is that they found me such a great job with huge amount of future growth opportunities that I will not be using them in the future. Shout out to OfferZen.com for looking out for devs and making the pain of finding a job feel more like a Dungeon and Dragons quest.

What's up with recruiters calling the office? Today, a coworker got a call from a recruiter. 5 minutes later I got a call from a lady from an IT Management consulting company asking me if I'm the right person to talk to which I'm quite obviously not (she apparently sent me an email last week, which, if I got it, marked as spam).
In my last job several recruiters called; how could I even talk open on the phone -.- -
I'm still a student, I'm attending my second year of university. Today I got what I could call a job offer. But tbh I'm not sure about that. The company that should hire me doesn't exist yet and I will work as a part-time employee until I finish the university. Idk I feel like I'm not suited for the job (I will work as Web Dev), like I'm not good enough even for a job that still doesn't exist. Yeah I'm shit2
-
That one time a recruiter called me for a job and I had 2 meetings and was asked to ballpark a figure and the recruiter got angry and threatend to sue me but the company hired me anyway and we cut out the recruiter. Sadly, the job sucked and I quit after 3 months. So many life lessons tho...
-
New one for me. I got an email out of the blue from someone asking me if I was interested in their open position. Sorry bro I’m diggin my job and not looking to change 😎
-
What is the longest commute you would consider for a dream job? Let's take mode of transportation into consideration too.
I just got an offer for a job 2.5 hours away, but it is by train so I can code/game/sleep while riding. For a few months, I am going to try it before moving closer.4 -
I return to uni next year to continue a Bachelor of Software Engineering, also just got shortlisted for a full time web developer job with the CSIRO, it pays like 70k a year, I wonder if I could do both. Hmmm. :/3
-
@BinaryProvider is the best co-worker anyone could strive for. It was my first job, but I got hired on the basis of my will to learn. He got me the most powerful workstation, all the software, and then backed that up with relentless faith in me not screwing everything up. I will be forever grateful for everything I'm learning here! Cheers back at ya :)

I was working as a lab tech/data analyst and wrote a bunch of macros to make my job less monotonous and decided I'd rather code all day than make graphs in Excel. A year-and-a-half later, I was 1 internship away from 2 associates degrees, so I quit my job and got the one I'm doing now. I love the work, but wish they'd pay me more.
-
Yesterday we got the news that another contract is ended. I’m almost looking forward to mine. I guess i’m next this summer. And on to job #6
-
Never went to Uni.
I am currently a College student (UK).
I've also got a part time job as a Web Developer.
I've got this job because I was able to prove myself.
Nothing I've learned at the College is useful for my job.
I've seen a lot of fresh graduates getting jobs at my company. They think they know their shit - that is until they get smashed by reality.
From what I've seen the CS degree is not worth a penny. I might still go to Uni but I'd rather choose a different subject.3 -
So i got this advice from a acquaintance that's the head of some big company that deals with opensource.
"Stay away from .NET, it's the devil's doings"
Didn't quite know what to make of that, took my college degree in CS using java, got my first job with a java codetest and interview.. however I was so nervous I forgot to ask the tech questions about the job.
Anyway, just learnt that I'm now hired as a .NET developer (it's a trainee program so gets to learn it at work).
So, .net.. am I fucked or should I put my prejudices aside and embrace it as something good?5 -
I got a job as Back End Developer in IT company, but in two month i only fix styling and layouting website.
I'am on the right company or not.?4 -
I need 750++'s to get my avatar a pair of slippers that I got for free after quitting my job for which the shoes came free.

I got a Samsung A71 from job. What changes would you do to make it less "Samsungy"? Like, I like my OnePlus, but the Samsung is arguably better, so it's be nice if I didn't disgust it.5

hi devrant,
I got a new job where I'm required to learn in depth prestashop, anyone know any good resources? the documentation is a bit confusing at this point.
thank you!16 -
First day of work at the new job.
BUT, don’t wanna work. Just want to snuggle in a cozy blanket and watch GOT on Netflix
.

.
(I know GOT is not on Netflix, but don’t you wish it was?)2 -
Well I started a new job about a month ago, yesterday the company has been sold, I'll have some options becoming money in a year.
I also got a job offer which basically upgrades my salary and my status, and a huge amount of options (an autonomous vehicle related startup)
FML what do I do?1 -
I got an interview at top company like Amazon. I heard the mangment and work place is brutal. as an entry level dev should I still accept the job if I get it?5
-
I've been dismissed by my company (mostly by one person in that company). Now I got a new job offer but the manager in question is one of my referrals. How much am I screwed?7
-
Need some advice:
I got a job offer which I would love to start ASAP. However.. I have a 2 hospital dates one, 4th April and the other 13th May.
I am not sure what to tell the company. Should I be honest and say I got these 2 dates that I need to day off..or tell them about my first appointment and then later on in April tell them my appointment for May?
(This is my first job offer after graduation and I do not want the offer to then go away because if this..)4 -
got rejected for the job again, no idea why. the HR went well, i aced the technical. Its heartbreaking. How do you guys deal with rejection.5
-
Two weeks after being told I’ve got the job I still don’t actually have the actual offer or info on what team I would be joining / role I will be doing.
😡
Meanwhile recruiters are hounding me and other places are interested. Ffs7 -
So today i got asked at a job proposal what were checked and unchecked exceptions, I got the job, but is that a normal question?3
-
There are alot of questions in the job industry I'm not aware of. job gaps, lying, job hopping, hr and little details I didn't even notice.
I have a job gap for 2 months.(Nov and December) and planning to land a job on January.
For 2 weeks, I got burned out and need to recover my motivation to move on because my employer told me the job industry of not being honest, but being a dick and slave is what it gets to keep the job.
This December, I'm just going to do my side projects and little coding challenge(not the fizzbuzz). I don't plan to create short term side projects. I have to keep on practicing.
I'll be a slave in January. But I don't want to work 48 hours a week.1 -
Was in a job colleague (just to bridge some time till i started my first apprenticeship). Got to play around with the Borland c++ environment... Went to the bookstore and bought a Introduction into C development book
-
Coming home from fking my hot blonde gf in the morning and im late for my job! Fuck the job i got bitches to fucjk8
-
My job started when the 2 ND month after I get graduation..I got very excited.. but job is in kpo related.. after I worked there in 2 months LL get a job in software development
-
Got a technical test coming up for a job. Had never been asked to do one before so I don't know what to expect 😅
(test at home and no time limit by the way so that's less pressure I guess) -
Don’t really put stickers on my laptop, however the rectangular DevRant one has done a great job marking my primary external USB drive since I got it...
-
Every week you meet with the loneliest dumb person explaining what you had already explained the last week.
Even now I remember the week that it all started. It all happened when I got the job 😅 -
Before getting this job I was dealing with two recruiters. After having had a job interview, which was more of an introduction because someone who was supposed to do the interview wasn't available, I get a call from recruiter number two.
Planned the interview for a different company the same day which went pretty smooth. Within a month I got the position as a software dev within a growing startup with great people -
You know as I see these bastards having stolen my story over time I think wow
I put the effort in
I knew how to interview
I got the job
These creatures stole my resources by mimicking me often very poorly
Time to pay “you” the full amount owed and starve awhile -
Achieved a 2:2 in computer science and graduating (got interviews with for some jobs). I have some sits in some modules, which could change my grade to a 2:1.
From a company point of view, is it worth going for the 2:1? Will it open more jobs / better salary straight away? Or shall I go for the first job offered with the 2:2 I got.7 -
Just got offered the position of IT Specialist on a salary at my current job where I'm a legal assistant. I have an interview with a fortune 500 for an apprenticeship in a few weeks though.1

I'm lost here 😑! Got a new job and I supposed to analyze/fix/update/ the communication softwares/hardwares internally. Data security is insanely important and everything should be inexpensive 😑. Any suggestion what I can use as softwares and communication tools?7
-
Just set up a job-interview for a junior development position for a good friend of mine. She showed me the application problem set afterwards, and turned down the job offer... I'm glad I wasn't asked to solve that problem when I got a job in the company!
