Seriously, why? WHHHYYYY?
US-date-format sucks, every FUCKING TIME!
The only time I really notice is when the "month" is larger than 12:
05/13/2017
"5th of Dec... oh. Fuck. Not this shit again..."
(It makes no sense. Absolutely none.)34 -
"Programming is like writing a book... except if you miss a single comma on page 156 the whole thing makes no damn sense" - unknown15
-
Try not to use floating point numbers in places where precision is important. Like for instance, money. Always store the base value where it makes the most sense15
-
"Only stay late at work when it makes sense to, otherwise always leave on time. There's always going to be work left, no matter how much you get done in one day."
Best advice ever.
Edit: I have to say it was during my first week in my first recent grad job.2 -
Yesterday: "This fucking logic makes no sense. I can't work this shit out!"
Today (first look at the problem): "Oh... I think if I do this and this... Yeap, that'd work"
I love fresh brain thoughts in the morning.8 -
Valentines day, other people buy flowers. I buy bread instead.
I've been buying a giant loaf of sour dough bread for years and my wife is just as happy.
Why buy flowers and see it die when you can eat bread. It's just makes more sense logically.5 -
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. I SPEND HOURS INVESTIGATING INCOMING & OUTGOING DATA. I CHECKED ALL THE CODE, I EVEN TEAMVIEWED A CUSTOMER WHICH WAS HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH MY APP.
TURNS OUT I FORGOT A FUCKING '/' IN MY FUCKING CODE. WHICH MEANS THE HOLE GODDAMN API URL MAKES NO SENSE.
WHY THE FUCK DO I ALWAYS OVERCOMPLICATE SHIT LIKE THIS.
FUCK2 -
This morning finally pointers to structs in C finally clicked on my mind!!!🤯
80% of the C code that puzzled me now makes sense!! 🤗12 -
Why the hell am I 200% more productive at 2 am? Makes literally no sense. I JUST WANT TO CODE LIKE THIS IN THE MORNINGS17
-
when you have to do this because the code looks correct but you're not sure what the heck is wrong because it doesn't make sense12
-
I have to update Visual Studio Installer before I can remove Visual Studio
Makes sense
Thank you Microsoft8 -
(overheard colleagues)
"hey, client x wants to speak to you, can I put them through?"
"what's it it about?"
*mumbles something*
"dafuq?! Oh well, put him through already 😑"
Me: hey, what did he want?
Colleague: they wanted help with setting up a page on their site with a maintenance message for when their site goes down.
Me: ah righ.... wait what? What's the function of a maintenance page on a site if the entire site is down?!
Colleague: yeah, that 🤣
Well, okay, then 😶12 -
I have been told that post lockdown, I must commute hours each day to the office in London. This really makes sense, considering that my reports are not in London, but based in India. The product owner is in India. My line manager and his manager are in the USA. There's no one in London I work with.11

Valid Until Invalid date? Well, that kinda makes sense.undefined js government javascript node.js paid success appointment reference number application form govt4

- We need a „Save Session“ - Button in the Navbar.
- No problem

Yeah... uuuh... Makes perfect sense... 🙃3 -
Interviewer: One last thing, hope you are not married.
She: No, but how is that relevant?
Interviewer: Well because this job involves a lot of traveling you see...
She: Makes sense Sir. Also, I have a lawyer friend, in case you need any help...
Interviewer: What help?
She: Help with filing for your divorce Sir, as this job involves a lot of traveling...5 -
Alrighty then, so you can do this and it'll still work...
Like, I suppose technically speaking it makes sense....20 -
Me: I honestly don't care how thick a phone is and who cares if it doesn't have wireless charging...
Other consumers: I want a thin, beautifully designed phone and it has to have wireless charging, it's 2018 l, every phone needs this....
*Me watching that same consumer put a thoch bulky case that hides the phone and breaks wireless charging*
Well that makes fucking sense doesn't it...8 -
Programming is like writing a book... except when you miss a single comma on page 126, the whole thing makes no sense.

Installing MacOS on Virtualbox running on Windows 10 which is running on MBP Bootcamp partition.
Makes sense.17 -
"Quality CSS" is much a fucking misnomer. As someone whose been writing this shit at scale for 15+ years I can tell you all CSS code is garbage. The only thing you should do is make sure you don't have name collisions. Classes/components are self contained. And use variables when possible. DRY makes sense usually, but if you're dogmatic about it you shoot yourself in the foot.9

There are some extremely competent, blind developers where I work. They have a tool that read screen elements out loud to them.
At first it was chocking to see they work with the screen off. It makes total sense though, however this thought never crossed my mind before. Their headphones serve as screen to them, which is pretty cool.9 -
Overhearing first year software dev students argue that object oriented programming is pointless and makes no sense...
You're gonna have a bad time...7 -
Decided to update an old project. Turns out I wasn't stupid 6 years ago and my code still makes sense :)))4

WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BUILD THE BLOODY QUERY WITHOUT DOING FANCY UNNECESSARY SUBQUERY SHIT?!
OR PUT THE LIMIT WHERE IT MAKES SENSE AND DOESN'T CAUSE MYSQL TO TELL YOU TO FUCK OFF?
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

My favorite language syntactically is C#, it makes sense to me, I'm never confused (mostly). What's yours?26

When you have literally no idea how to make your homework project so you try to Google/StackOverflow it piece by piece to make a Frankenstein's monster code.
And then you still have no idea how to cobble it all together in a way that makes sense.4 -
The superhuman feeling of going back to your code after a week and it all makes perfect sense, the variable names are intuitive, the doc strings are comprehensive, and the general codebase structure is sensible.2

12:30pm - I can't code any more, what does this function even do?
12:45pm - What's a function?
12:59pm - I still don't know what a function is
01:00pm - *Eats Lunch*
01:05pm - My code makes perfect sense6 -
I couldn’t think of a quote to do, so decided to do a function instead. Duff’s device! (You know, in case you ever wanted a scenario where fall through in a switch makes sense)15

Upon a certain angry Germans recommendation I started getting into flutter.
Best fucking decission ever. Shit is simple and makes sense.
I ain't tagging him cuz he don't like being tagged.
But thanks man!! You know who you are!
The code makes sense, the widget tree hierarchy makes sense, knowing the native counterpart helps whenever the flutter portion ain't doing it(has not happened yet) and dart is really a good language.
The tooling is fucking genius, funny enough the emulators open quicker with vs code than android studio or xcode(fuck those two btw, 2 fucking years of hate towards them ain't going away) and building designs programatically make waaay more sense.
Flutter gave me back my hope for mobile development. This is google knowing that they fucked up Android development and fixing it and schooling IOS development for taking a good set of languages(obj c and swift) nd fucking them up with their shit way of development.
I am in love.9 -
I love python.
It's refreshing to use a programming language that makes sense, and was built by people who enjoy programming, and want to make it more enjoyable.9 -
What's the most bullshit marketing term you've heard being used? Something that sounds flashy for a non tech client, but makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
I just heard "harnessing hyperconnectivity". The fucks that?3 -
Me at an interview...
interviewer: can u solve a 3-sum problem
me: sir, a threesome is not a problem
interviewer: not threesome, 3-sum

I move that the term snake case be renamed sausage case because it makes way more sense.

The state of informatics education is just saddening.
You study "Software Development" and then you get to do exams asking you to do some basic linux commands - with full internet access on a computer. People are allowed to fail this and study on. On the other hand you have to do real coding with pen and paper, have to calculate from hex to bin to dec and stuff and most Importantly - know about all kinds of math stuff completely unreleated to cs.
Graph Theory absolutely makes sense in my eyes, but not if it's plain fucken math without even mentioning computers or applications of it. But if you fail that everyone looks weird at you.
I know about coding. I got A's and B's in all the coding exams _without even doing much for them_ but then fail all the fucken math exams. Makes no sense. FML.8 -
Why are computer science lecturers so fucking incompetent?
Just give the bloody assignment in a way that makes sense and make sure the that your own code is correct.
FUCK6 -
So, as I figure out my post-high school life and delve into the world of coding, I finding myself with a question for you seasoned veterans in the field.
Regardless of what I like more, what makes more sense in the current climate of the industry - specializing in back end or front end, of going more full stack?13 -
<sarcasm>
I was amazed by looking at the design of WordPress readme at GitHub.
It's really amazing, just as good as the WordPress websites.
Please have a look

When the developers are told to implement the given design without questioning whether a design makes sense at all

Why yes, it makes total sense for a variable called `$connectionString` to only accept either booleans or integers ... wat
Also beware the beauty on how well that names conveys the variable's intent.

if you want it done that way then fucking do it yourself because that shit makes no sense to me, and you have not adequately made your case to me as to why it makes sense, and since I'm writing it it seems prudent for it to make goddamn sense to me.6

Fuck... coming from a Python background learning low level stuff is hard as shit.. gonna need to learn C/C++ and some Assembly real soon!
Gotta say though, understanding that stuff makes everything have more sense all of a sudden hahah6 -
My mother lives and works overseas, and she'd complain about her IT department all the time.
Wish I could get work permit to work there, but I'd have to serve in 'their' military for 2 years...
Yeah, totally makes sense. Nope.5 -
The worst (best) pun I've seen in a while.
I hope it was intentional. Probably not. But one can hope. -
So by trying to make my avatar look like me as much as I can, I've came to realisation that I'm the most generic looking guy mother earth ever compiled. If that even makes any sense...
-
So I just created a function called GetMinutesFromMinutes... It actually makes sense and I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse :)10

When you debug for 2 hours. Due to a logic error. You go through every line. It all makes sense. You find a semicolon after an if statement... Shouldn't the compiler have caught that?4

What to do if client is accusing you for putting some malware in their website?(of course I didn't put anything.....makes 0 sense anyway and btw it's wordpress)

How comes companies don't give a shit abt onboarding?! The better your onboarding processes the faster the people you hired become productive?? Should never take me three weeks jus to get access...and when I do it's a problem ...should be seamless
At least that's what makes sense to me2 -
A friend of mine just told me his job made his company start "Lean Six Sixma" training which is basically a massive scheme that makes you get a karate belt in common sense that you apparently don't have.2

so the bank has decided to charge me for sending me the sms notification for the sms- notification-charges
makes sense 🤨 ?7 -
in Russian the word “шляпа” (fedora) means not only the specific hat but also something that makes no sense, something ridiculous or something of low quality.
So when someone sends you some spaghetti code on a review, you can just say “That’s fedora” and I love it. You can also WEAR a fedora and point to it as a response to someone saying something that makes no sense.4 -
Me: "Hmm. I should center this image."
img {

Main language, do people have such a thing? Some quixotic shit about various languages I use:
C#: Microsoft
F#: never quite committing to 100% functional paradigms while still being one of the most enjoyable langs I use
Java: null handling via optional and maybes are ugly, but better than it was
C++: surprisingly functional in 2020
Haskell: no one else seems to ❤️ it, despite it being fucking beautiful
Kotlin: Ternary warfare, Czech sports opinions on how languages should work
Clojure: parenthetical scoping makes me far happier than it should
Typescript: makes ever more sense as it changes7 -
My co-worker, still studying but working as a "senior dev", just decided that we don't need a test/staging environment anymore. We just "validate" (we also don't use the word "test" anymore) newly created features in production.
Makes absolutely sense...
Thank god I have a new job from february on!1 -
Is there's an "edit history" feature in DevRant. Some comments makes no sense after a post is edited.
I'm thinking of posting "Arch Linux and Firefox for the win. Who's with me?"
Then, when I have some comments, I'll switch it to "Windows 8 and IE for the win. Who's with me?"
That could ruin a lot of lives.5 -
I swear.. Whoever comes up with a better and fixed version of CSS that makes sense when you use it should probably get a Nobel Peace prize for the peace of mind it would give to its users..!!!2
-
If git was written in english or in ancient greek it made no difference. It's everything counter-intuitive and you have just to learn commands by heart and google the errors. Because nothing makes sense, even if you know how it works and you used it for years6
-
I just breathed, so just before i breathed, I blinked my eyes.
So, my last job was to blink my eyes.
Totally makes sense.3 -
So like... did every social media app meet up and go
"yo!
Ordering notifications and timelines chronologically in a way that makes sense?
Yeah mate, fuck it!"?2 -
Which bastard thought that 'Spotifiy remote' is a good idea?
You never know what you control:
- your phone with your phone
- your laptop with your phone
- your laptop with your laptop
- your phone with your laptop
- your heart with your heartbeat
The guy invented that should get hit with a stick recursively until he cries 'Music should be played on the device that you can control'7 -
Almond: "This isn't right, we need to use <blah> instead"
Phil: <Marks as resolved>
Almond: "This still doesn't look to be resolved"
Phil: "IT IS RESOLVED IT WILL BE PUBLISHED AS PART OF MY NEXT COMMIT WHICH I WILL PUSH ON SCHEDULE LATER TODAY"
🙄
...yeah, that makes sense...4 -
Really wish we would see some OLED equipped laptops, we have massive 4K OLED TV's and Tony high resolution smartphone displays, why can't we just get a nice 1080p OLED panel, makes so much sense in a laptop IMO3

Helping grandma with her computer, feeling good about myself, proud of her for learning to use a computer atage 84 !
Oh wait. You use internet explorer? You hate chrome? How can you hate chrome you know nothing about comput.....
Ah shit. Sorry grandma.. just.. use chrome9 -
As a newly graduated student, I searched incredibly hard for a job for 4 months. Now that I've got one, I'm being bombarded by recruiters...
It makes sense and all, but it's still a bit funny2 -
Here I am just realizing the reason the author of a rant isn't shown directly in the feed is probably to avoid influencing votes. That makes sense now.4
-
"The word ‘tokenizer’ makes a lot more sense, but ‘lexer’ is so much fun to say that I use it anyway."
No wonders people think a lot of programming subjects are intimidating.3 -
Stocks are up, bitcoins is up, gold is up, bond rates are down... Which means prices are up...
COVID cases are up...
Nothing makes sense anymore... Maybe I should just give up...14 -
I actually like the nostalgic feeling (if that makes sense) when making emails. Like fuck flex, grid and absolute! Just me, my table and inline css4
-
Let's schedule our weekly sprint planning meeting for 10AM on Fridays. And let's chastise those who happen to be 5 minutes late (literally). It's the perfect plan, since everyone is normally expected to come to work between 10AM and 11AM. Makes. Total. Fucking. Sense.3
-
In VS Code, why may positive feedback be only 257 characters long, where negative feedback can be 270 characters long4
-
I know it's not recommended to write git commit messages in past tense, but it makes more sense to me to use it. Maybe I'll change as I grow and learn more in the programmer world, but as for now, I'm going to be a rebel and ignore convention😎5
-
I was playing around with Gboard. Started with "I" and selected everything that came after it. Read it after a while and this makes sense. I am moving to this place next week and I have used gmail to contact with real estate agent. Scary as fuck.12
-
A call centre manager is dictating the direction for the development of an app I'm working on.
Everything is working perfectly and then I'm asked to implement logic that makes sense to noone else but her. Then a week later shit breaks. Then I'm blamed. Then I implement a "fix". Repeat this cycle over and over.
I've started looking at local postings for a job in construction.1 -
Thinking about transferring the majority project from mongo to MySQL. It makes sense rationally but - feels like there is a creeping darkness is looming over me.7
-
Okay so my ticket got rejected because the on screen texts are not in the correct case (upper/lower). Totally fair because nowhere in the spec are those texts defined. As a developer I am also responsible for what "makes sense" for the user.
I'm just gonna say this next time I ask for a raise. -
Why the hell people like Quora?
I hate that it forces me to sign in. I won't, because it makes no sense. Fuck it, my time is precious, don't play with it.
StackExchange is doing great by leaving information free for everyone and even allowing them to interact without an account.6 -
Last week all the sites I'm hosting started acting real strange... Nothing made sense.
One site gave an error telling me that the database couldn't write to disk "insufficient space"...
What? Are you fucking kidding me?
Turns out indexing 14TB of data kinda makes mlocate use a lot of space...
Excluded one folder, optimized the db and voila, from 17GB to less than 1GB...1 -
Yes, php, it makes total sense that `array_diff` compares the string representation of the elements.1
-
*adds border to the bottom of a fucking div*
Why, hello there Mr. FUCKTARD HORIZONTAL-FUCKING-SCROLLBAR. That totally makes God damn fucking shittard fuck'ala'fucking fuck-damn'le-shit-fucka-shittard sense.1 -
There's one thing I have most frustrated with, it's when a project manager has no technical knowledge.
They are like those people who makes you angry every time they open their mouth.
Thay just never makes sense and never understand anything.
Always wasting everybody's time.9 -
That moment when you realize your keyboard searches are proudly brought to you by this guy..? It makes sense for Bing to be used in Wordflow but here?! Well, guess whose visits are gonna skyrocket soon...😂2
-
TIL pointers are slower than normal variables, and it makes a lot of sense, when previously I had thought the opposite.7
-
That makes a lot of sense!
I mean, I did come to the United States to study in a grad school exactly because I could see this slide. -
Great googly moogly is Kotlin an ugly language.
If you are just starting out with Android or Java development in general, I highly recommend sticking with Java and avoid Kotlin like the plague. It feels like a meme language that was taken a little too seriously.
Full of little flowery nonsense that aims to make the language more human, but only serves to make it look like a child designed it.
I absolutely hate when a language doesn't require type declarations.
The "it" keyword rankles my underwear beyond belief.
Trying to build a dictionary/hashmap/hash felt like I was writing out an essay for school. In other languages it's straightforward and makes sense. Even PHP makes more sense.
I am obviously missing something here, because there is no way something so common and done the same way across different languages has such a wildly different approach in Kotlin.
I have as much experience with Java as I do Kotlin but it immediately makes more sense as a language and doesn't have all this flowery nonsense. It is verbose, which means I don't have to decipher what the code is actually doing when I read it.
I'm familiar with the enterprise Java meme, but I'm not writing enterprise Java, and that's not my style anyway so it doesn't affect me. But even so, that would be a million times easier to handle that Kotlin.14 -
I can't believe how a voice in my head is telling me to end my WFH and start going to the office.
Like, when we talk about promotions, surely my boss will give promotions to those people who are physically there, giving the boss a sense of dedication towards the job.
I know the workload isn't going to change, because work is work regardless whether you're home or not.
Also, my WFH job has gotten quite monotonous. It's a little too comfortable, if that makes sense. Another reason to seek a change.
I don't know, Am I just overthinking this?14 -
If literally anything in our system stops working the supervisor's immediate response, regardless of whether it makes sense or not is to tell us to clear the browser cache. There are circumstances where that drives me absolutely up a wall.
-
It is weird how nobody calls ++ button as increment button. After all saying I incremented your rant/comment makes more sense than I ++ your....
Or do you call it increment/decrement but just write ++?5 -
Me, converting shit to JSON between a data pull and an API call even though I don't have to just because the data only makes sense to my brain that way.4
-
Why would companies ever hire a manager from a non-tech background, at least for managing engineers? After reading @IAmNotARobot's latest rant I just have to ask because it makes absolutely no sense to me. Surely non-tech people should be reserved for managing non-tech roles like sales, HR, and maaaaybe team leads, right? How can you manage someone if you don't understand anything of what they do?3
-
Somehow, a continue instead of break in a switch-case looks weird. Although it makes perfectly sense with regard to the outer for loop.8
-
They said gpt got it wrong on the third question, but what it actually looks like is gpt3 used zero indexing and started from the end of the string instead of the beginning.
While gpt4 began at the start of the string, and also used zero-based indexing.
Makes a lot of sense actually, considering it was trained on a lot of code.6 -
Can someone please read this article and sanity check me that it makes sense outside of my head and I’m not actively putting garbage out into the world?
https://amyshackles.codes/why-is-em...
I would greatly appreciate it.15 -
"What in the name of hell? Why? No.. absolutely not. Jeeeesus. Holy cow!! Haha.. that's funny. No friggin way! Oh that makes sense..wait, that makes no sense. Screw it I give up."

Get a ticket for a low priority bug, reported internally. Fix the issue mentioned in the bug.
Moves to QA environment, the original bug reporter tests and *passes* the ticket.
Moves to Staging environment, same exact individual then *fails* the testing. Cites totally new/unrelated changes that need to be made.
Apparently our the workflow is -
Code->QA->Staging->Requirements
Makes sense! :)1 -
Mentors dont understand the power they have...
My mentors boss (non technical) will ask me to do something that either makes no sense or technically impossible. Without a mentor whos willing to say "that makes no sense to ask" or just "he will need an extra week to do it" can change an internship from a horrible nightmare to a great experience1 -
this may sound like bs, but it's mostly about posture. it's fine to be a bit slower than the rest, but being punctual, responsible, patient, engaged, those are things people notice and value. if you're gonna be the boss you're not gonna be doing minion tasks anyway, it makes sense to pick someone with soft skills and maturity5
-
THE FUCK MICROSOFT?! HOW COULD YOU FUCK UP ALT+BACKSPACE IN WORD 2016 WHAT IS THIS SHIT SUPPOSED TO DO IT MAKES NO SENSE, YOU CANNOT EVEN UNDO IT WHAT FAGGOT TESTED YOUR UI WHILE BEEING HIGH ON REDMOND DIRT. AND WHICH KIND OF MASTURBATING MONKEY IMPLEMENTED THIS SHIT.8

How the fuck does a library with such shit documentation that makes no fucking sense have 43k+ weekly downloads7
-
This rant must be because of my oldness. I was never into Pokemon, but my oldest kid was.
So the hashtag for Pokemon Go makes little sense to me. It could just as easy be an insulting Poke Mongo (ie harazzing a Down's Syndrome person) as Pokemon Go.
There. Out of my system. Please carry on.4 -
When a fellow programmer/teammate, who tends to be a little to extroverted for my tastes, decides he had nothing to do for the last hour and wants to come talk. An hour and a half later it finally makes sense to just call it a day.
-
I hate this joke. It makes zero sense; not something I'd expect to see all over an app for devs!
A factory creates something, if I already have a problem, why would I need a factory to create more?3 -
Client wants something that makes no sense in UX land. We tell them that it makes no sense. Client doesn't listen, tells us to do it anyway.
We do it anyway. Client has doubts about a small detail of the implementation. And asks us what our advice would be.
My advice would be that you start listening to the professionals. How am I supposed to give "advice" on a detail of something I disagree with in general?
Her: "I'm going to cut off one of my hands."
Me: "I recommend you do not do that."
Her? "Would you cut off the left or the right hand? I can't decide."
Me, saying: "I have no preference in this."
Me, thinking: "You should cut off your fucking ears, you're obviously not using them."2 -
RIDDLE!!!
Find the right word and make sure it makes sense =D
"(blank) is hard. (blank) is even easier."7 -
RANT: So in school, we have to program using some kind of pseudocode.
Today we wrote an algorithm from a previous exam. Apparently, they don't give you a mark if you get the Array.length(). To receive the mark you have to have to use a variable.
WHICH MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME.
My teacher said it would even be ok to define a variable like Variable = Array.length. THAT MAKES EVEN LESS SENSE5 -
Working with Apple subscriptions from Dotnet Core backend. Their API makes no sense IMO. Loved so much working with Stripe, but we had to support In-App Purchases aswell.
Made a small easter egg for futre developers to find. (unreachable code).1 -
Oh that looks pretty let me try.
Ow God why !!
....
Ah....that makes sense
Obsess over it for months
Make failed side projects with it.
Ad to cv -
I think it makes more sense to divert IT budget to building a time machine.
It would be cheaper than trying to fix all these problems, and just as effective.1 -
Dear windows.
HI! IT'S ME! ETHAN!!
Why do you take TWO FUCKING HOURS!! To install a god damn UPDATE????
Your update system makes NO DARN SENSE.
Sincerely, Ethan.13 -
<anchor link> for `tel:` makes no sense to add a title tag but you almost have to so I add title="tap to call"> which of course will never get seen by a phone DOM. Hmmmm, what say you W3C?1

White house urges Developers to move away from C/C++
I'm not sure what to think about it yet, but on the surface level, i think that makes sense.

TIL “Bit bucket” is basically a term synonymous with the null. Makes sense why Bitbucket is named this way bc it’s where all the trash ends up lol.3

Me: *Starts to code for uni assignment*
Puts ANY sort of music in the background => hours of coding go by, beautifully.
Tries to code without music due to broken headphones => 5 min feels like an eternity and nothing makes sense...
I swear, "my headphones broke" should be a valid reason for an extension.2 -

Cause who the fuck wouldn't expect a TriState to have FIVE goddamn values of which only TWO are supported.
Yeah, makes perfect sense.1 -
Being a Mobile Developer and seeing corporate companies stuck in a mindset of Web Development. Analytics using Breadcrumb trails. oh, okay then. Makes sense.2

As a moron, I write all tasks in this format even though it makes no sense to do so, so I won't have to put up with business colleagues moaning.7

So appearantly what passes for the space character in regular expressions in ssms is :b. Sure, Microsoft. Makes total sense. \s was just too convoluted.1

How does the created time work in Devrant's API?
I get 'created_time': 1563478239
It makes literally no sense13 -
Today was:
Fuck it, this API makes no sense I'm tired of trying to make sense of it...

Lol this is actually funny
It was a promotion that involved doing more work but didn't involve me getting a change in title or pay
Thing is tho... The promotion was caused due to developers leaving left right and center and I left shortly after as well...so I guess it makes sense that they maybe saw that I was planning to leave *shrugs*1 -
IntelliJ, IntelliJ I love you but please tell me why making a jsp file from scratch doesn't work in the servlet but your template for a jsp does. It makes no fugging sense to me. StackOverflow doesn't know and I went there for help.
I was debugging that shit for 5 hours today over an issue that was fixed in 3 minutes. I need ice cream.2 -
I finally get it. Symfony: The Fast Track (https://symfony.com/doc/6.0/...) is not supposed to be a learning tool.
It's an elaborate joke! Now it all makes sense.1 -
Screw some PHP builtin functions, why does imagecreatefrompng require a quality modifier between 0 and 9 and imagecreatefromjpeg one from 0 to 100, makes no sense!2
-
What is the functionality that you have always wanted to have in a blog???
Need suggestions.
> Please, something that makes sense in a blog.18 -
"(Getting) otwelld"
The state of a fallen laravel developer, after he makes a PR to the laravel or lumen documentation and the epic troll otwell closes it within a minute, with the epic meme "already there", although the documentation is absolute dogshit at places and actually merging those PRs would make sense, so not every single developer out there has to make the same mistake or debugging2 -
terraform plan: Everything is great! The sun is shining, the birds are singing. Go ahead.
terraform apply: Everything is meaningless. I’m staying in bed and eating Doritos. Nothing works. Nothing makes sense. -
I know it's quite soon to think about it, but: next year I'll graduate in cs and I'm still not sure about what to do after:
- I could just stop studying and start working
- study for another two years on a specialistic degree in Italy
- go take a two years master in machine learning, data science and ai in Finland
Which of these makes more sense?10 -
One of those days where you're sitting in a customer meeting and you hear them talk and:
"I know that was all in English but nothing you said makes any sense based on what I know about your software, business processes, time, space ... anything in this universe" -
!Worst, being put on the project a day before release
!Best, finding and fixing all the data model issues before release, so that the next time I have to pull stats about the system, everything actually makes sense, as all foreign keys and indexes would be explicitly defined for once.5 -
I dunno if any of my choices have been "bad". Humans are great at explaining things to themselves to feel better. Narratives is our strength and we love them.
In hindsight everything seems to be a correct choice and kinda makes sense. For everything else is just a lesson to learn from.2 -
I must say the worst thing is the whole "branding" of closed and open source software. Giving systems/platforms/repositories/projects/libraries names that makes no sense, just for the sake of standing out. Just god damn call a shoe for a shoe...the difference lies in the creator/maintainers and not in the fucking name...sry
-
I hate fucking SteamVR stuff so much. I don't know why, but Valve has not set up the plugins in a way that makes any sense. I have so many workarounds in the project I'm working on it makes me sick.

Create a resume
Include your educational background.
Include your work experience.
Upload resume to a job site.
Fill out a custom form requiring the exact same information in the resume.
Makes sense.1 -
Following my last rant, my current employer told me it wasn’t right for me to assure a job first without telling him first I was planning on leaving.
How does that even work? Am I the only one who thinks that makes no sense at all?15 -
How long y'all think it is before we get things like Spotify integrated into video games, especially sports ones where it makes the most sense.
Hopefully soon, because I'd be down.6 -
Bahaha just found out that Edge is switching to Chromium.
Now Chrome blocking ads suddenly makes more sense.5 -
I love how frameworks and languages become more object oriented.
PHP and Javascript for example have come a very long way in the last decennia orso.
The why is obvious: logic makes sense.1 -
Src: RPi FAQ
me: *wtf!?!*
what is the sense of this?
my option:
option #1: stop production of pi2 and sell only pi3
option #2: sell pi2 fast as a pi3 but without WiFi/BLE etc... if there are tecnical reasons that makes this not possible see Option #11 -
Fighting a CDI dependency injection problem that makes no sense. The only thing that sucks about the magic of DI is troubleshooting it when it doesn't work.1
-
People in companies who make bad git commit messages beacuse they do not care... Hey, "change 1", "update" makes so much sense. And companies who do not care to have some guidelines.5
-
Was talking with a friend about how it makes no sense that people are freaking out over Canada 150, since the real big anniversary happened 22 years ago1
-
From HTML CSS javascript to some voodoo WPF xaml and c#, mvvm and databinding dependency inject cluster bomb to my brain god Microsoft just put a tutorial out like a normal group of people. where you do examples of projects. I'm 2 weeks in and this still makes no sense5
-
“iPhones powered by lenin
Nice to have legs”
Another kiki dream. I wrote this down at 6 am, then fell asleep again. I have NO CLUE what it means. It made sense then, but makes none now.1 -
Can you tell that fucken Barracuda VPN Client to only route specific domains to the connected vpn?
It makes no sense to route my whole fucken traffic through my workplace's network. -
"The table names are irrelevant anyways, unless you want named tables"
I can barely believe that this sentence makes sense, if you put it in context, even though I wrote it.3 -
Learning Haskell is pain
Haskell fucks with your mind and enjoys doing it
Every Haskell list comprehension is the most convoluted piece of shit I've ever seen, until I see the next list comprehension
The Haskell compiler errors are the worst I've ever seen, and I've worked with fucking c++
AND NOTHING MAKES SENSE! I FUCKING HATE HASKELL5 -
So I have been using IntelliJ for two weeks now. Still failing to see how this is superior to Eclipse. It has crashed or locked up multiple times, makes dependency management needlessly complicated and the UI just plain doesn’t make sense. I don’t see anything here that makes this software worth $60 per month when my free software does everything yours does, but better.
Everyone on my team who is being forced to use it hates it and the money our company is paying for it could be used for better things like toilet paper with more than one ply.4 -
N64 emulation possible on Nintendo hardware? Are you SUUUUUUURE???
According to GBATemp:
Wii:
CPU: Single-core PPC, 729MHz
GPU: 243 MHz single-core
RAM: 88MB
Possible? Yes (always full-speed)
New 3DS:
CPUs: 2, Quad-core ARM11 (804MHz), Single-core ARM9 (134MHz)
GPU: 268MHz single-core
RAM: 256MB
Possible? No
Switch:
CPU: Octa-core (2x Quad-core ARMv8 equivalent), 1.02GHz
GPU: 307.2MHz-768MHz (max. 384MHz when undocked)
RAM: 4GB
Possible? Barely (5FPS or less constant, only half the instruction set possible to implement)
this all makes total fucking sense7 -
We only recently started and we can really see the benefits of code review.
It motivates you to follow the standards, writing good quality code and using variable/function names that makes sense. Especially that you know someone is going to read through it.1 -
I can't stop myself from making my commit messages completely sarcastic or off the wall, which never makes sense to future me.
for ex: my commit right now is
"push it real good"
This does not help me. How do I stop?
lol5 -
Why does MySQL call databases schemes? Makes absolutely no sense.
Schema is the metadata around your tables or documents. What is Json Schema? Metadata around a json object.
MySQL, databases contain data. Schemes do not! Bad DB technology. Bad...2 -
I hope that when I wake up in the morning, the racket code I just wrote from midnight to 3am makes as much sense to me as it does at the time of writing.
Banana Language always seems to flow easier when exhausted. -
I've spent the last 3 days trying to figure out what on earth was going through the head of a (now departed) contractor when he wrote the code I'm trying to fix. Took a reasonably simple part of the system and convoluted it to the point where it makes no sense! And we've realised it's not complete either!! Fun times... they are not. 😕4
-
I think the Gelbooru API is pretty nice.
It's consistent, has a structure that makes sense, supplies JSON and has pretty nice endpoints + parameters.2 -
BRO IF I SEARCH A SLOWBRO HOLDING A FUCKEN KING'S ROCK, IT MAY BE BECAUSE I DON'T OWN SLOWKING BUT WANT ONE SO WHY YOU WANT A SLOWKING IN EXCHANGE FOR THE SLOWBRO IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE AT ALL.

Mom: "This makes sense. You were always good with the computers."
Dad: "Can you help get my game working on my computer." -
In an object/dictionary/map config object where multiple source paths are mapped to destinations, which structure makes more sense to you (and why)?
1. { "src/path.ext": "dest/path.ext" }
2. { "dest/path.ext": "src/path.ext" }
Could also be a URI redirect map4 -
So a monad is basically a specialized object for converting to and from a datatype. So FP has specialized objects. Monad marries OO with FP in that sense. In C++ I would do this pattern with a class because it makes sense to encapsulate it there. Or at least a namespace.
Change my mind.

Finished a project a few days ago with the coolest code I've ever written. Problem: It's a college project, with a totally unrealistic use case and it makes absolutely no sense to continue working on it now :/ How can I let it go?3
-
It just came to me.. an error in a computer program is called a bug.
A listening device used to spy on people is also called a bug.
A computer bug can be used to spy on people. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW, PEOPLE! 🤯
(yes, I know the story of why it's actually called a bug. Still, I find that very entertaining.)1 -
The forEach in JavaScript makes no sense. It looks like a map /filter/reduce but doesn’t actually return the array. Can you please loop like a normal language?8
-
A doctor heals, a gardener plants, a baker makes some bread, a driver brings you to a location, only IT is nonsense in the most use cases.
Maybe I will switch one day to another and more useful job which makes more sense7 -
When I need to talk to another office in my company about how one of their codebases works the weirdest thing happens. I end up on a call after local business hours with people who don't write code and thus cannot help me.
I show them the error I'm getting trying to run their shit and I get a high level buzzword filled spiel about the project that makes no actual sense. They use these technical words like federated and dynamic but they don't make sense in the contexts they're using them. And they don't answer my goddamn questions.
It turned out their debug config file was gitignored. -
VBScript.
Hey look, this arg is declared as ByRef, but when you called that procedure you put it in parentheses, so it was passed by value! Yeah, makes perfect sense, and soooo easy to debug... -
I love it when someone wants you to troubleshoot an issue but will not give you a test user account to test with. So you have to sit with a user or talk with them over the phone while you troubleshoot. I'm literally elbows deep in the code and database, but you won't give me an account for security reasons. Ok, that makes complete sense.
-
I kind of hate people who use the JavaScript array method Array.reduce(...)
It rarely makes sense but makes code unnecessarily complex to read.12 -
"It is the worst kind of unprofessional behaviour to simply code from a spec without understanding why that spec makes sense to the business"
My life...every day.1 -
First time ever I put a bounty(stackoverflow) on my question. Didn't get a satisfactory answer till the end but found out the reputation does get deducted!
Now, that I think about it, it makes sense as people might not award bounties to save their reps otherwise. -
Do any of you use Buffer? I'm thinking about creating an open source alternative to it, as ot would help me learn. Do you think building something like it makes sense?2

Image Voyager with it's golden record is found _now_.
How disappointed would an alien race intelligent enough to decode and understand the pictures on there (which - imo - show us as civilized as possible) be, coming here and find us just waiting do die because of shit we did by ourselves.
Hard to imagine an extraterrestrial race is in any way like us, but it's even harder to imagine them coming to us, maybe even hoping for peace, because they live through the same shit as we do - just to find more shit.
They didn't include war, poverty, disease, crime, ideology, and most important: religion in the pictures on the record. stuff that essentially made us who we are today but at the same time show us at our worst.
we know what's shit about our behaviour and we don't want to show it to aliens but we don't change them at all.
wtf1 -
Do you think tracking work hours by ticket makes sense?
I think it's a waste of dev time. Not sure from PM pov.6 -
Do you feel that mobile development destroys your phone battery? At least when developing React-Native, I use a cable most of the time and thus, the phone gets charged.
After some time it feels like the battery is draining faster. I experienced this with the second phone already.
Makes most sense if you have a separate dev phone, I guess...6 -
Been picking up Go recently and am really liking the idea of using git repos as library urls, just makes so much sense to me.
Also in general go is just kinda cool and makes me like lower level programming a lot - although I had to learn the hard way with Mutexes and locking.5 -
I only prefer { on same lines if not used for class constructors & try catch blocks..
Other than that, I adapt to the existing codebase styles, to not fuck up things further, even if it makes no effing sense (old project, styles & best practises changed 'a bit')..
So I guess I'm being influenced most by the old code and pass devs on the projects..1 -
Not a rant. Request suggestions.
I am developing a Sublime Text plugin for real-time code monitoring ( screencasting) using Websockets. I would like to know if it makes any sense to develop such a plugin. Also, please suggest some use cases so that I can increase the features of the plugin. Point out if it already exists. Thanks :) -
Everything makes sense when considered in some way. So in some ways, everything makes sense, even the idea that everything makes sense in some ways.1
-
I'm pretty sure whoever devised the syntax for Kamailio config files was drunk around half the time they were working on it, because only half of it makes sense.
-
My colleague checked in the compiled java class files on every commit, until i could convince him that this makes no sense. 😂

It makes sense to learn AI and its mathematical basis (statistics and linear algebra) or unless I want to get a degree on the topic I’m wasting my time? If the answer is yes what are the best online resources/books which I can use?
To clarify I don’t want to specialize there and work as a “AI/data science specialist” (for which I believe a degree it’s necessary) as some graduates in shady boot camps expects to do. I’m just asking myself if I can teach myself enough IA to enrich personal projects in which IA makes sense and to become apre flexible professional.5 -
I've been to a meeting where I asked a question and the reply I got was not remotely related to the question.
He asked me ' Does my answer makes sense?'
I said yeah.
Inner me: I am so tired and I can't repeat the question once again. Aren't you even listening?.1 -
As much as I hate writing documentation, I agree that it's a necessary evil. I also try to be as descriptive as possible where it makes sense. But, do we really need a 6-page document explaining how to run a query that updates a user's role?1
-
I do not fully understand this.setState in reactjs with async functions, so I posted a question on SO,
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
I have accepted the given answer as it makes sense. but in reality the solution does not work, can anyone shed some light on it?14 -
I have gained a new identity this month.
10 yo: My sister told me that the Easter bunny gives Mom money so she can do Easter baskets. This makes sense as the Easter bunny cannot do everything.
Me: (As the person who often gives Mom money this makes me the Easter bunny.)2 -
Took me by surprise that Google Docs apps are using Vue, but then thinking it as the better Angular makes a lot of sense.
I am a React fanboi.4 -
Which makes more sense: Coding a website membership system based on a design pattern of renewing 1 year to the day of initial registration? Or coding one that renews everyone on June 30th regardless of when they first registered?3
-
Leaving things out of VCS. My usual folder structure is like this:
- Project name:
|-- env (virtual environment)
|-- Project name (git repo)
\-- (keys, credentials, etc.)
It makes sense, but after a while, more and more important stuff starts piling up in the outer folder (not version-controlled). -
Java is the worst shit ever
This works:
int a = 4;
a *= 4.0;
This doesnt:
int a = 4 * 4.0;

Makes sense9 -
What is it with UX designers who have no clue about what makes a good, usable, logical and efficient to develop and maintain UI that users will be happy to use?
The profession appeared out of nowhere a few years back and I have yet to meet a single one who has even basic sense of what makes good UX.7 -
seriously wtf is this even about ?
The only thing that makes sense os the word mediocre in big bold letters and why are they playing this shit AGAIN ?

Bing image creator just refused to give me a picture of Baba Yaga doing pair programming with Zmey Gorynych.
This makes no sense.1 -
Been having dreams about being able to solve real world problems by solving/modeling with programming tools. Usually trying to fit some relationship or physical problem to a math/programming model. It always makes complete sense while working the problem. Then of course you wake up to a "WTF was that?"1
-
The little things are what makes you happy.
It was really annoying that screen doesn't work after an su. It makes sense, but typing "script /dev/null" everytime (and remember to write "exit" after it so bash history works again) is annoying.
So a little script to "/bin/scrn" with the following content made my life better:
#!/bin/sh
command="screen $@"
script /dev/null -c "$command"
Never worry about screen after su again! Tech life is great, isn't it?4 -
I don’t know if it makes sense to post bugs here but here we go anyway.
See how the "weekly topic" text overlaps with other text at the top.
It seems like the height of this area is fixend and is not adapting to the text when it wraps into the second line.2 -
Corona virus: we will make America great again!
Makes sense, doesn't it?
[this post is not intended to be political - just an observation]11 -
For those of you who are living in the US or the UK :
For a penultimate year student, what internships would you say makes more sense : 6months off-cycle or 2-3 months summer internship?
Asking because I need to convince my shitty French Uni1 -
I am going do do a series of .net or programming related rants. These are confessions regarding things that no one has been able to answer in way that makes sense to me.6

If i shit too much then that should mean i eat too much, but how come im not fat then? 🤔 Im normally looking. Normal weight for my height and age. Unless my body shits so much that it auto balances my weight. Holy shit. My body is a Load Balancer! And my asshole is a java garbage collector! It all makes sense now2

A single fucking NuGet package is missing in release mode. That’s the only goddamn explanation I have and it makes no sense. Why the FUCK does ACR.UserDialogs only get compiled in Debug mode?!
God I fucking HATE UWP.1 -
I'm starting to learn AWS. I have experiences with spring cloud and i am wondering if it makes sense to use it within aws. opinions?1

so in the future it makes sense to have a digitized voice tell you that you picked a cherry out of a bowl. so what happens if you keep eating them ? -
I love how they go out of the way to allow the same photos of them to be taken. of course unless they're followed on successive runs there is no way of ensuring their capture is there which is what makes this system of theirs almost make sense if not for allowing more of their kind to be bred

Can someone please explain c++
"void onData(event)" (from an example code my mentor gave me before he went to a meeting) to a high schooler real quick I can find anything online that makes sense1 -
I have been tasked with planning a feature retirement.
Basically the plan is to move this feature to another plan where it makes more sense and is more stable.
Now we don't have any data on how many or which customers are using this. And I need to plan a migration for them.
Fun times ahead... -
I'm thinking about learning common lisp, but haven't found a project where it could be useful. Can you suggest some problems/areas where using lisp makes more sense?

Stock market is still crazy these days I feel like a monkey throwing darts....
Nothing makes sense...3 -
Spent days adding cloud-init to a CentOS kickstart script for a baremetal template.
I didn't want to have NetworkManager installed but had network problems.
Turns out you need to explicitly put NM_CONTROLLED=no in the config for the interface to not use NetworkManager.
Because that makes sense. -
Reverse engineering with IDA, be like:
Ow that makes sense, lets jmp there, nope thats not... aaah this must be the subroutine I was lookig for, nope thats not it, repeat. -
I get assigned to lead projects where I have to interact with vendors form my home country. Rest of the time I work as a developer. I know it makes sense and I'm natural fit. But is it racism?7

CQRS + Event Sourcing.
Because it just makes sense. In small applications, just command pattern, but CQRS and Event Sourcing is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
