Not that much dev-related, but still...
I wish I had a way of decompiling the code of my life, correcting it and then compiling it. I was diagnosed with Depression yesterday and it has turned me absolutely empty. The kind of empty where you feel like you're a void.
I'll survive. I know that much. I also know that it's going to be even harder than it was before.
Just for lighting the mood. This is also my struggle.50
"We need you to build a feature on our website to stop people taking screenshots. I can use the print screen key and then easily print out our website design. You need to make the site design harder to copy".
This is an extract from a recent client email I received. To say I'm in shock is an understatement.26
Team Lead: Anyone has any concern on their tasks? I'll see what I can do to help.
Me: Yeah I'm afraid I would not be able to finish my task on time because of its complexity.
Team Lead: Try harder.
What's the point of asking?11
I’m making a puzzle game! Cool!
Concept - done
Mechanics - done
Art - done
Ui - done
Puzzles - uhhh... this is harder than expected.32
The Linux Kernel, not just because of the end product. I find it's organizational structure and size (both in code and contributors) inspirational.
Firefox. Even if you don't use it as your main browser, the sheer amount of work Mozilla has contributed to the world is amazing.
OpenTTD. I liked the original game, and 25 years after release some devs are still actively maintaining an open source clone with support for mods.
Git. Without it, it would not just be harder working on your own source code, it would also be harder to try out other people's projects.
FZF is possibly my favorite command line tool.
Kitty has recently become my favorite terminal.
My favorite thing open source has brought forth though is a certain mindset, which in the last decade can be felt most heavily in the fact that:
1. Scientific papers with accompanying GitHub urls, especially when it comes to AI. Cutting edge research is one git clone away.
2. There are so many open hardware projects. From raspberry pi to 3d printers to laser cutters, being a "maker" suddenly became a mainstream hobby.13
We now have around 10cm snow and it make my way to college around 300% harder,
But I don't care, because this looks fucking beautiful.
Also, I can approve this famous saying about German trains,
"Caution! Doesn't work in case of:
"We care about your privacy [...]"
That's why we make it ultra inconvenient to turn off all of our advertising trackers and give you a broken list of on/off sliders that are slow as fuck. Also, why not just press the 'accept all' at the top of the page? See that big green button? Yeah green is good let's just press it and get this over with right?
Oh and that 'deny all' button? Yeah, a shame nobody actually put some programming into that thing, why not just press the green button next to it? You're only making it harder for yourself y'know...5
Guys I just wanted to thank you for giving me motivation! I suffer from chronical depression and it's really hard for me to start something and even harder to continue. But by reading your posts I get joy and motivation! #thankyou #motivation #devRantsaveslifes7
"In C++ it’s harder to shoot yourself in the foot, but when you do, you blow off your whole leg." - Bjarne Stroustrup4
'Long Press' doesn't mean 'Pressing it harder'... they are two different things..
[RIP his smartphone]3
That sad moment when you realize that your salary is less than other employees, the most sad is you work harder and you have more skills.
Life is not fair.6
And then I asked myself: "How should I make my life harder?"
I chose react/angular.
Every node developers story.8
string work_it, make_it, do_it, makes_us;
No boss... For the fucking millionth time: unit tests are not a waste of time.
You keep testing everything manually and hoping that you tested everything every time and praying that there are no bugs IS THE FUCKING TIME WASTE
My boss just can't fucking wrap his head around automated tests... I'm trying hard... Gonna try harder...6
is it just me or is finishing the rest of 10% of the project much more fucking harder than finishing 90%?12
Someone who noticed that I do programming as a hobby and therefore set harder work for me in class. He also encourages my side projects and at the moment is helping me build a native app for the school :)2
Alright, feature is starting to work, let's go to bed before 2am!
Finally in bed.
"So this stuff is awesome but lets go to sleep now and work on it tomorrow...
Waaaaait, I could add this other feature but I'd be harder......."
My brain is running at full speed at 10 to 2am now 😅3
Now this makes me very fucking angry.
For one because they did it at all but especially for targeting people who would have a harder time to say no and, of course, for deliberately not telling what the data was being collected for plus not informing them for what company it was.
And for the people who will go "mah privacy reeeeeee", everyone deserves to be able to make a well informed decision and the people, in this case, didn't have that chance at all.
Google, go fuck yourself.17
Pro tip: As great as your product is, it's 1000x harder to pitch to my boss when it has a goofy-ass name.
Me: Hey boss, I came across some new software that'll help manage our mission critical database system.
Boss: Oh yeah, what's it called?
Me: WoolySocksDB Enterprise Edition
Boss: 😐... No.4
Me: "You wrapped 2 p tags and one div inside a button tag....why?"
Other dude: "What do you mean why?" * in condescending tone
I lost my shit.
To make things short. My manager told me I have to try harder to not speak to people in intimidating ways.
In all fairness...mr "associates in programming with 0 css experience" WAS condescending when I asked him why he did what he did.
The little shit earned it. And he will probably think twice about his damned tone when speaking to me.29
So many bad dev habits...
But the one that results in the biggest headaches afterwards?
Me, when given a problem and being asked an estimated time: 'This shouldn't be too hard, gimme X to do it', only to later find out it's way harder than i imagined.4
The best is to not even start it.
It is harder to stop, once you're doing it.
Like drugs, don't do drugs, kids.7
Just surfin aroung in C# job offers and found this gem, a joboffer from a german bank:
"Sie verfügen über Erfahrung in der Entwicklung individueller .NET-Lösungen auf Basis von C "Hashtag"."
which translates to
"... and you have excperience with C "hashtag"..."
Lol'ed harder then I should have...2
Everytime I look at an open source project code, I realize how bad I am and that I must work harder in order to take part in such amazing projects.2
Non-dev thing that made me a better dev?
Music, and trying to learn music theory. I was never very good at it, still am not, but the harder I try at this, the easier programming becomes...7
Fun fact you dumbass: YOU 👏🏻 DON'T👏🏻HAVE👏🏻TO👏🏻 REVIEW👏🏻THE 👏🏻PLACE
I get asked to review places I've never been all the fucking time. But like an adult with a BRAIN I swipe away.
"Life is hard. It’s harder when you’re stupid" ~ someone who has a mf point8
"There’s a subtle reason that programmers always want to throw away the code and start over. The reason is that they think the old code is a mess. […] The reason that they think the old code is a mess is because of a cardinal, fundamental law of programming: It’s harder to read code than to write it." - Joel Spolsky8
The "explain x to an x years old boy/girl" questions are easy yet tricky.
Interviewer: Explain machine learning to an 8th years old kid.
"Imagine if <insert anecdotal example here>"
Interviewer: The kid is asleep. Try harder.4
Just because our classes are online now doesn't mean you should make your exam literally 5x harder than the in class one was you fucking bow tie wearing penis head looking cunt.
There's a literal global pandemic going on for fuck sakes. It's not like we asked to have it online fucking jackass.2
this hurts. it really hurts. hey can you make x using <buzzword> with <buzzword> for less than minimum wage?
how about i hit you in the x using my <hard object> with <harder object> for free?2
This one time I developed some useful plugins and a command line interface for the platform we built at work.
Then when it was done I thought it had some good value so I created a pull request to donate it to the platform. That same day I got 3 complaints that my pull request did not conform to conventions and that there was no ticket for it and they complained about the fact that it made their jobs harder.
It was in fact the last time I developed something for work in my spare time.1
"C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do, it blows away your whole leg."
My internet got finally fixed. Currently, it is also very fast. Very very fast.
Doing Google foobar level 2 i LOVE IT its harder then normal tests and even you get a interview with google when you pass level 5 wohooooooo.11
Fuck you European union. You cunt smelling, ass licking, pieces of dog shit. Thank you so fucking much for taking yet another step towards closing the 'Web and making it harder for smaller people to exist on it.
I wish you all a slow and painful death just like the death you are sentencing the free 'Web to.
Just finished making the interface for my app in WPF only to find out that it will be waaay harder to plug it to WPF than I thought.
In fact, it would be easier to just remake it from scratch in WPF - which I'm planning on doing when I get some free time.
Don't you just hate when that happens?
..eh, at least it looks somewhat good.8
In the last weeks there has been some turmoil on the Fediverse (Mastodon, GNUSocial, Pleroma etc) about "how nazis prefer a certain kind of software and therefore must the developer of the software take action".
One solution is to make software "harder to install so nazis can't install one"
The thing is, that people like that do a better job of spreading the views and the message of the self-proclaimed nazis. I wish people just started to ignore them.8
Someone will have a hard time taking this non-existant tram out of service, and probably even harder to make the insurance company pay for nothing... oh well.8
>Be my networking teacher
>Give a really hard test with way more topics than we're realistically able to study
>16 out of 22 fail the test
>Announce 14 hours before that we're gonna repeat the test (we had the test on monday...he sent an email on sunday)
>Give a slightly harder test
>19 out of 22 fail the test
>Get annoyed because, in your opinion, the students don't study enough4
So I would really like to see a devrant like app where devs can share design ideas for problems that are greater than a function call, or topical questions found on stack overflow.
As I have gotten older, I have realized that actual implementation is typically easy, the design approach is typically harder to get right from the first go, so open critique can be very useful.6
In sprint planning meeting, prioritizing the tasks...
ScrumMaster: "Next item, create a spreadsheet that identifies the systems used by order processing so the PO can identify errors by system."
Me: "That's already done."
ScrumMaster: "Did you work ahead of the sprint again?"
- Really trying not to throw something heavy at his head.
Me: "No, you did back in January."
- SM stutters..um..uhhs...
ScrumMaster: "No, I never did that...see."
- SM navigates to the sharepoint directory
Me: "Yep, there it is."
ScrumMaster: "I didn't create it, you must have."
Me: "Created by...you."
ScrumMaster: "Uh...um....I might have added it to sharepoint, but doesn't mean I created it. Anyway, lets take a look..."
- opens the spreadsheet
ScrumMaster: "What is this? Did you simply export the sharepoint list to excel?"
- Getting harder and harder to resist the urge to throw something heavy at his head.
Me: "I don't know what that is, you created it. You commented on the Trello card that this task item was done."
ScrumMaster: "No, I've never seen this or made any comment on the Trello board...lets look ..."
- FRACK!!! TRELLO IS DOWN!!!
ScrumMaster: "When Trello comes back up I'll assign the card to you. Lets stay on task with the cards from now on. Next item ... "
Trello up, 3 hours later, back at my desk, there is his fracking comment from January about uploading the spreadsheet to sharepoint. Frack frack frack people suck3
Controversial tech rant begins here:
You know, I'm sure a lot of you guys know that it is pretty uncommon to encounter a woman who is who is into tech (and ranting about said tech). This has always made people question why. I personally feel like that is the case because those that do like tech, and those that don't just find a different interest. I thought that would suffice, but now Google and Microsoft are advertising their diversity programs. I was fine with all that until I was personally affected by it. I intended to apply for scholarships from Microsoft. They turned me away because according to them, they began giving them only to people who were "marginalized". That and their commercials trying to pressure young girls to join the STEM field. Again nothing wrong with women in the tech field, but now that this is turning into favoritism I have to fight harder battles to compete in the tech industry. Not only that, but now I read a study about their employment. Despite the number of people they turned away and the money they spent on these programs, thr companies STILL haven't become any more diverse, and from what it seems, their reaction lately has been to double-down and try harder. I just want an open, honest, and fair tech community. Has anyone else felt the affects of this situation?10
My phone just froze. But this one time, instead of being mad at it for stopping I had the thought that it's probably working harder than when things are going smoothly. So I watched with compassion as my phone tried to resolve its internal struggle, it being so overwhelmed that it could no longer communicate with me. It was like watching someone having an anxiety attack. There, there. Take all the time you need, little friend. You're safe in my hands ♥️8
People fucking think that working for a fucking startup is a fucking cake walk. Every person making 6 figure salaries but no one fucking wants to put in an effort to work slightly harder! Show up at 10 and leave a 4 and yeah v'll get funded. And the worst fucking part is no one wants to check something as simple as fucking work emails after work! Fucking get your acts together or just walk the fuck out the door.
I know work life balance is important but don't expect that when you know the company is treading harsh waters and needs everyone to get their shit together so we get funded!7
My tab key now requires a harder press than it used to earlier. STUPID MACBOOK. This minor inconvenience is a really major annoyance.10
my 8 month old on her stroller at the grocery:
*cries in screaming*
*is scared of unrecognized faces*
every single old person we pass by:
let's grinstare this thing right on its fucking face.
baby: *cries harder*
old fuck: uh oh, time to go4
Found out today my boss told the team lead to put an unfinished part of the software that I'm developing into production so the clients 'could look at it already'. Team lead claims he objected but boss insisted. So now our error logs are filling up with lines every time it silently fails, and the pressure is on even harder to make it work asap. This has been going since the start of the week and I found out about it now. Boss told team lead it looks better to the clients this way. Meanwhile I'm just thanking the heavens this at least couldn't cause data loss. Probably. *panic intensifies*5
Oooh what I hate it..... Timezones... Who really came up with that shit? GMT, UTC, CET and garbage like that. And then also the DST crap.
Whats wrong with the same time in the whole world? Without DST or timezone garbage that just makes life harder for both developers and travellers which are going to meet someone or have something booked.18
I always read those rant about schools are so hard but I want harder school mine is so easy I wanna to calculate do much learn detailed things work and much more but I don't know if they are talking about college or high school if about college I want to go soon but if about high school then well fuck I choosed crapy school7
Me: soooo can you get this done by next week?
Other dev: well who knows what rabbit hole I'll fall down. There's no way to tell.
Me: can you just avoid falling down a rabbit hole? We have a deadline.
Other dev: oh ya there's no way to know for sure.
Me: ....... Can you please try harder
Other dev: I'm trying I can't.
Anyone else here working as a developer in a digital advertising agency? You end up working on lots of shitty projects and there is nothing harder than working on something you don't believe in :/5
I hate it when certain keyboards have fn or the alt key at the edge of the keyboard instead of ctrl because it makes copying and pasting like a million times harder.3
@dfox For I clicked notifications can you make the text green too? When I have a lot of notifications, now with the avatar preview it's harder to pick out where the new ones end and the old ones begin
iOS, dark theme7
Ladies and gentleman, I've done it.
Remove your hacker game trophies from your wall.
That nasty bug you fixed a couple of nights ago? Meh.
Your top devRant post? You'll delete it after reading this.
Every awesome accomplishment you can think of: it all means shit now.
>> I have SUCCESSFULLY changed my business Microsoft account password into something I can remember AND Microsoft accepted it in under an hour of trying!!!!! <<
I want to say a big FUCK YOU to MICROSOFT for WASTING MY BLOODY TIME.
FUCK YOU for giving me a max of 16 characters. DASB&(*(&G*HH*& for telling me every time my password is 100% strength and then after every submit tell me I have to change it AGAIN because it should be harder to guess. WUT?! It was 16 characters including a (capital) letter, number and multiple special characters, WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?! UNICODE EMOJI'S???!!! ALLOW ME TO USE MORE CHARACTERS SO I WILL MAKE IT HARDER TO GUESS IT, IT'S 2018 FFS.
I don't even understand why my new password is accepted compared to the other one, but fuck it I can access my account again.
Now I might have to find a new job before the company password policy kicks in again.
/me drops everything and walks out of the office to get wasted (not sure if celebrating or just really pissed off)9
Metaprogramming maybe easy to write but is so fucking hard to read and harder to maintain. Why do people even like these dynamic languages anyway :-/
*a very loud and miserable groan which may be cry for help*
I hate my life right now.5
ALMOST HALF AN HOUR SPENT TRYING TO LOG INTO MY FUCKING RASPBERRY PI OVER SSH.
you know what the problem is?
I’m not gonna tell you because I want you to feel the agony too.
> be me
> want to set up a nextcloud instance on pi to play with
> boot up
> ssh pi
^tries like 60 more times with different things
> pulls HDMI out of PC
> connect to pi direct
> check the logs
>try login from phone
>Tries resetting password
>tried logging into other pi
>type @ sign
Been a really sad day today. Learnt this morning that my friend had died. Couldn't concentrate on anything but managed to give a nice report to boss on video call. Tried coding, but could only code a dropbox before giving up and firing up PES. Was so absent-minded the AI kept hammering me. Closed the damn thing and tries coding again but realized the combo box was that would get done today. Fucking sucks when you lose a friend. Even harder to take that he died after falling of a rooftop. Fucking suck!!2
It fucking pisses me off when people compare experience as a benchmark of his performance or knowledge while hiring for job and even salaries depend on that. How do you know that, that guy has jerked around while the younger guy with less years of experienco would work better and harder.
What is your experience with people like that?10
nvidia makes me sick, nvidia fucks with my kernel, nvidia earned a place in hell, nvidia is shit, nvidia runs like garbage stuffed in to my motherboard, nvidia is so expensive, nvidia made my work harder and that's not what computers are meant to, nvidia's website sucks, nvidia has no solutions if you're running on GNU/Linux, nvidia owes me money, time and tons of coffee, nvidia is so much a pain in my ass.
nvidia is now on my shitlist, just before apple, followed by adobe.17
Anyone use the i3 window manager? I'm trying to get the hang of it, and I see no advantages, it's just harder to use, which is a shame because I /want/ to like it!13
Lately I'm finding issues on git more helpful than StackOverflow.
I know those are different beasts, but for the harder/specific questions I'm finding more resources on the repos than on SO.2
Because of networking, arch is harder to install on vbox.
guess who wiped and GREW his old antergos partition?
wish me luck in the arch install6
The front-end web technologies are so confusing to me.
Learning PHP for me was so easy and fun. The frameworks and libraries are so simple to understand. I mean you can do most things with something like Slim and not much else.
But JS HOLY FUCK, with the gazillions of toolchains, libraries, frameworks, modules, module managers, task managers. REALLY? IS THIS ALL REALLY NECESSARY? TO PROGRAM UIs?
My brain can't handle all this. Dealing with all this shit is harder than proper coding. I'll stick with vanilla JS so I don't get a brain aneurysm.12
Just because you can do things in one line and throw in ternary operators everywhere, doesn't mean you should.. other people will touch your code. Make it readable instead of making it harder to maintain11
YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY IT IS HARD TO GET A JOB AS JUNIOR DEV? This is because you don't need any knowledge about coding to get the fucking degree!!
I would love to work harder but it should meen something if you own the fucking paper!
Sorry got triggerd after reading another rant!8
Today is a stark reminder of why i want to leave here. First we couldn't do anything because production was down which blocks dev login. Then support tells me I need to work harder because my bug count keeps going up. But what is in my bugs? Feature requests, global changes, and work that isn't mine. Gee thanks :( Why does support get to comment on my performance anyway by something as dumb as a bug count? Grrr.5
I just got pissed off when someone on my team asked me how to start a web server on port 8080 (needed for network port testing)
I check the port get 404. 🤔🤔🤔
Spend half an hour explaining to them about ports and how there's already a week server running... And that 404 is a HTTP Status code.
I'm pretty sure she works on our webapp and maybe even REST APIs...
New grad but still.... Not recognizing a 404?
Maybe those pretty 404 pages these days make the realizing that it's a fucking web server error response harder....4
It's interesting that the most capable developers I have met have a harder time getting a job than the incapable ones.
All things equal, but skill, it's annoying to see.6
So Microsoft doesn't ship the ODBC drivers for Access on their new distros of office because they run in an isolated environment... THEN WHAT GOOD IS YOUR FUCKING EXPORT TO ODBC OPTION IS. YOU'RE MAKING MY JOB SO MUCH HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE.6
I like to go do a bit of manual labor to remind me I'm not trying to end up with a dead end job making just a hair above minimum wage.
Good motivation for me to try harder in school so I'll actually learn things and not to cheatmy way through like a lot of people I know.2
Handling date and time input on a web app is hard. And when you need to handle a range, it becomes even harder.
There are several date formats and 2 time formats, and various ways of validating the input (pattern, min, max).
You'll also need to make sure that the start date-time comes before the end date-time.
But still, no matter how much you validate on the client-side, it's still possible to bypass it, so you need to validate on the server-side as well 😫2
frameworks are great and all but it gets much harder to google stuff. a lot of people use php, not that many use cake9
This year, Lord willing...
* get married
* take a one week honeymoon without a single frantic phone call/email/IM from work or clients. Way way harder than getting married!2
My biggest dev regret was that I've followed other people's dream.
I lost precious time into trying being the "good kid" for my family and support them in their time of need.
Now I'm considered old for a starter and getting a dev job becomes harder with each passing day.4
Me: *builds new state machine* Ok this makes adding new instance states easier, should also make enemy AI a million times easier!
Me after trying to do enemy AI: FUCKING CUNT! This system is a piece of fucking shit for AI, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck, etc
I think this will be harder than expected bois!
Work it harder, make it better
Do it faster, makes us stronger
More than ever, hour after hour
Work is never over
Oh the rant? This is gonna be a long one, and that was one of the lyric that stuck in my head for the past 3 days, Alive live album 2007 was glorious,
TL/DR, note to self, ALWAYS ask for documentation, and written evidence of any task & stories before start anything next time,
To start, death march was over, my team and I got some downtime(less work) for the past week, some of the guys were still busy with their respective stories (bugs, etc) but all in all it was not as much load as the past month before that,
It was peaceful and quiet, I was working bugs, some enhancement here, some enhancement there, it was nice for a change, until
One of the PO came by, asking if there's any spare dev, my team's tech lead suggests me as it's gonna be a front end work on web, good old HTML and CSS, and it's supposed be a task, not a story, I thought it's gonna be nice for a change, so I agree, the PO took me to the lead developer in charge,
Both of them briefed me, it's gonna happen in the apps (it's web alright, but in React Native, so no HTML and CSS for me), i was tasked to create 2 forms, and connect it with the microservice, "okay" I thought to myself,
Me: "Do we have the design for this?"
TL: "no but someone already made similar page you can either reuse it, copy paste it, whatever"
Me: *my bullshit senses are tingling, "that's one, what about the second"
PO: "I think the other team already made similar one too, lemme check, ah here it is, if it's all good I'll make the story for this"
TL: "okay, so there's that, can you start right away?"
Me: *tingling intensifies, "wait what about the flow"
TL: "it's simple, I will do this then it takes to your page, then this and that and that, and you do this and should be done, the MS is all there you just need to make the front end and connect it with MS, good?"
Me *hmmm intensifies, "ok let me check the available component first and see what I can do"
TL: "great, can you finish it by tonight?"
Me: *what the fuck intensifies further, it's fucking 6 PM, "nope, I don't think so, there's always complications when handling forms, not to mention copy pasting stuff"
TL: "it's ok, at least finish one by tonight"
Me: "..., we'll see"
Trying to reuse the form for the first page is no good, I had to duplicate the components, first one is working fine, the second template is almost done,
TL: "dude how's it going? It's been a whole day"
Me: "first one's finished, second's underway"
TL: "can it be don.."
Me: "today? Nope"
TL: "dood, is it done yet? It's been two days, what's left on the progress?"
Me: *for fuck's sake, "I just need to figure out how to connect between the first and the second and it's done
TL: "okay cool"
[different PO came by]
PO #2: "hey, hi, sorry, what's the progress on this?"
Me: "uhh hi, just need some unit test and it should be good for PR"
PO #2: "cool, keep me posted"
I finished, about to put a PR, I need the story ticket, I asked the PO and the TL
PO #2 gave me the ticket for the backend work which the TL is working on, no mentions or specs for th front end
TL gave me a ticket which was just created shortly the moment after I asked for it, only title and no description
Me: *shit, this will be interesting
Sure enough, the tester who is doing smoke test on my branch threw a fit, where's the spec, where's the design, where's everything, how is it supposed to work, the flow, the typecheck, translations, etc
The news came to be heard by the design & product team, and they came by, apparently no one knows what the front end was supposed to do, all everyone know is just the back end part,
In the end, it goes apeshit, everyone are confused, everyone have different understanding of the story, but at least what I've done doesn't went to ashes, after explaining everything to the design team, they decided that let it be, but there's might be some minor changes on the layout,
And then I began to understand why this TL and PO #1 had somewhat bad rap, while I was stuck with PO #2 trying to explain the relation between my task and the backend user story,1
Wondering how many of you have ADD/ADHD, diagnosed or not. I've heard people say that many programmers have ADD or ADHD and that it generally makes them a better programmer. I myself have ADD and I feel like it makes me a better programmer, but I have to work harder at paying attention to my wife/social life.24
Every TV show/movie with a hacking scene....
Person trying to hack: I'm unable to get through their firewall.
Boss : Then hack HARDER.
Hacker: Thanks for the advice boss! I'm in!
I was working as an intern at small company, and after a month we signed contract
But each month they had some excuse for not paying me, or any of the employees
So I quit after 3 months without any payment
But I would not have been where I am, if I was not in that difficult condition, it made me work harder, and thought me to always keep my options open :-)
Me been in the company for almost more than a year now and still understanding the system.
Another developer, been here for around 4 months, and where ever I look, she will be contributing. Whether it's coding or resovling complex host issues. She works a lot.
I feel lucky to be able to work with her and also all other Devs in this team are awesome.
My motivational source and inspiration to work harder and contribute more and more to the team.
Someone recently told me that learning command line is pointless for a developer today, the world has moved towards GUIs for a reason and there is no point in making your dev life harder.
We just learned in university that you should use '1 << i' instead of 'Math.pow(2, i)' because it is faster when calculating 2^i...
Am I the only one who thinks that this would never get through a code review in a company? I mean it is harder to realize what is going on especially when you didn't went to university lately.7
My day job is teaching at a school.
On the side, a friend (and coworker) and I have been developing an app for schools for two years.
For the last months, I have been daydreaming about taking the plunge into developing the app full time.
We don't have many clients yet, but it's getting harder to find the time for coding.
solution to the riddle.
if you havent solved it yet and you want to dont read this then.
firstly you switch the 1 switch let it on.
second you switch the 2 switch and you turn it off after 2 mnutes.
third you go to room and the light that is lighed up is 1 switch and then the light bulb that is warm is 2 switch.
congrats if you got it right.
tomorrow harder one.
will do this only on weekends.1
I think they are afraid of me :)
Last time I pushed them harder than anyone ever did since their tools I have to rely on precisely were unstable. Now each time I ping their channel in Slack I get immediate ack responses from their manager and architects .
This should make it harder to deny datamining companies. (Linux Format is the magazine)
Also I saw in there that the Librem 5 is OUT WOOOOOOO
Can't buy it yet though.
FUCCKKKKK WHY DOES LINKEDIN HAVE TO REFRESH THE FEED EVERY TIME I SHARE A FUCKING ARTICLE! NOW I HAVE TO SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN YOU MORONS! WHY ARE YOU MAKING MY LIFE HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE??!!1
when you have to use one language inside of another, and you basically have to call functions allowing you to call the other's language function within it, and you get the hell confused, since it gets harder and harder to see what is what and who can call who and how, and the compiler ofc. won't say anything about it since it only cares about the main language you are in and not the nesting of the other...
I just have no idea what I'm doing right now, or if my thought process and understanding of this is even close to where it is supposed to be.
D: I'm just confused and insecure about this right now....
time for experiments to figure this out, and get the hang of it13
Have some time to spare. And compiling android in background on 6 threads and browsing on 2. Awesome. So lets start solving the hidden secrets 2 game. I got to 48 on dnbhl so lets see if this is harder.
How awesome would it be to be able to migrate to a cattle-approach from a pets-approach when it comes to the human body, just kill your old body and start using a new one
Sickness? Create a new instance of your base image. Death? Just spin up a new instance and you're ready to move on. Broken arm? Kill body and get a new one.
Ofcourse, since we're stateful this method is kinda harder, unless you consider your conciousness an external database/soul4
Why is it so hard for people (especially managers) to learn to work smarter not harder....
FIX THE GODDAMN PROBLEM CORRECTLY... THE FIRST TIME SO WE DON'T HAVE TO KEEP FIXING ITS BLOWUPS ON WEEKENDS....
AND STOP HIRING MONKEYS THAT JUST KNOW TO PRESS BUTTONS RATHER THAN DESIGNING FULLY FUNCTIONAL SOLUTIONS THAT DON'T BLOW UP OR LEAVE A TRAIL OF SHIT BEHIND THAT I NEED TO DECIPHER N CLEANUP....2
University assignment asks to create some encryption harder to break than Caesar Cypher. So I decided to go online and look for some tips on making a somewhat decent algorithm.
Universal answer: don't do it
Well then, night off I guess 😎2
Feels like I'm battling anxiety lately. Always tons of projects to work on and they seem so easy, but getting round to them feels harder and harder. Anyone else have this issue? How do you deal with it. Cigar seems to have helped today...3
Today, a video appeared online of a game called StoneHearth, which is currently in open Alpha.
The video is about adding multiplayer functionality to this (originally) singleplayer game.
'Tony' is a hero! Because he initially designed the singleplayer game according to a strict client-server model, adding multiplayer is now a piece of cake. Good thinking there.
The structure of the game even made it harder for developers to hack around it, than just to follow the model. That is awesome. Kudos to Tony!
But I think it's harder than I think 😬
Probably should start with a PHP one. Much simpler.
Already have my own DB Lib is use a lot. Good start.7
I've been learning to code since I was 13, ~2 years ago. I did learn the basics of many programming languages but I cannot stick to one programming language to learn deeper. Also when it gets harder I just switch to another language and try that one.6
Say about it anything you want, but *nothing* motivates you to work harder than when a dev from *other* fucking outsourcing company is added to the project.1
18 hours. Because offshore doesn't get that I need to sleep at some point. I've become more assertive and pushed back a lot harder. Added "no" to my vocabulary.
Looking forward to 2017, and working ten times harder to get my business running like a well oiled machine and getting lots of well paying clients. Also would like to manage stress better :)1
We bought an expensive middleware which helped development speed and stability a lot. Something did not work and after a week I located the bug in the middleware. Support was adequate and the bug got fixed after my report.
I'm not mad at the developers, because bugs happen, and this one was hard to catch, even with tests.
On the other hand I have to explain my boss what took so much time.
It really wasn't my fault, but I also don't want to shame the middleware company, because it will make it harder for me to buy their stuff (and I quite like their products) or even any software at all.
Being a newbie is getting harder and harder. The later you start in a field, the more has already covered in that field, meaning you have to run as much more to catch up.7
At first I thought, damn there is something wrong with my phone, it sounds odd.
No I think one of my ears has stopped working. :-(
Damn ageing !
Was fine last night before I went to sleep..
Maybe a reboot tonight might make it magically work fine tomorrow..
I miss stereo..
This will degrade my performance in 3D shooters if I can't figure out where that bullet which just missed me came from !
Also makes it harder to code games with sound too..13
18 year ago today the earth stood still... and everything that was never was again ..it truly was the day that changed the world for the future.
I remember where I was when it happened... My aunt and uncle, worked In the pentagon on that day... they remember but they have never talked about that day
Every year its suppose to get easier to cope with that day, but I feel like each year gets harder and harder as the more I realize the things that changed or the other things that also happened around that time... or was popular prior and slowly died out afterward... each year that goes on just reminds me how long ago it was and it’s only getting longer, for the days of “old” ... days and culture of what I remember growing up to never return.18
Everyone is going on about how suddenly finding a programming gig is or has become a lot harder why with the outbreak and the economic downturn it is going g to cause.
But realistically is it true? Did I just pick a bad time to start a new career in this particular field or is it just FUD?21
Does anyone have that one song which they listen to while programming?
Mine is Harder Better Faster Stronger by daft punk13
So I was leaving feedback on eBay for a fountain pen I bought, and learned that "pen is" triggers the profanity filter. I assume there are legitimate reasons for this (people making it so we can't have nice things) but still. It wasn't profanity or an attempt around the filter in the context of my transaction!
I wanted to talk about the pen I bought without sounding stilted or unnatural. That's difficult in 80 characters or less. Don't make it harder for me, please.6
Am I the only person that thinks Kotlin is entirely useless and will only lead to harder-to-maintain codebases in the future?
God, I was unimpressed when they announced that. Pretty sweet announcements apart from this one, though.13
am i the only one that finds ui stuff (angularjs+css+makeing it look the way you want-tml etc..) alot harder to master then backend and even low level programming?
is somthing wrong with me??5
Imagine life as a Game,
Levels are Ages, if you have gotten older your level increases, and lifes getting easier and harder, easier with Knowledge and harder because of Diseases, challenges, kids etc...
Quests are life goals, such as having kids,
having a job, a family etc...
Side-Quests are jobs your getting from your boss, Jobs from Clients, Helping the Family, Cleaning your Room, etc..
Fast-Travel is Cars, Busses, Trains, Trams, etc... (Except in Germany)
and Last but not least,
Procastination, The End Boss of life, if you defeat Procastination you have beaten life... (But also died because the game is Over...)4
Anyone know the reason why Google removed the Android SDK from the Android Studio Installer? It's making me work harder in setting it up :/5
ok, so first there were ads.
Then came adblock and the likes.
Then websites started implementing randomly generated strings.
Then came pi-hole.
Now some of the websites are using RNG + hosting ads on their domains...
(the order might not be very accurate, but you get my point)
So what now ?
I'm guessing that the next step for adblock will be to use AI to recognize these RNG strings, and then the websites will use AI to generate better strings (harder to distinguish if it is relevant content or an ad).
In other words - AI vs AI :D
what do you guys think ? :)4
Programming is getting harder and harder instead of making our lives easier. Is it really supposed to be like this?11
Fuck Google analytics .. seriously .. fuck it .. I understand it's a free tool that doesn't mean you mask your incompetency behind that banner.
Im pretty sure minecraft mods have better documentation than this POS.
I really like the user demographics data it gives , but with the asterisk on literally every other metric it gets harder to believe the ones that are functional.
I cant express exactly how many times I end up with hordes of articles that point out small caveats with this shit.
My school system is complete shit, if I haven't said so already. With Gerrymandered, Arizona, and I, our futures are actively being made harder by the fact they the system discourages experimental thought. Experimental as in anything different whatsoever. In tech, you usually have to think outside the box a little, and this is only making it harder.7
I just realised why there are new libraries, tools, frameworks every day. We developers tend to get bored with doing something the same way for too long.
So we come up with something new. Is it a square wheel? Sure! Will it make everything harder? Of course! But that's the fun of it.
I was just wondering why the flying fuck OxyPlot was rendering an unknown node on my chart for monday when I only queued my sql db for a single Tuesday.
Noticed it was an auto generated node, which had the right time, status, everything.
I looked up my code and found out that the date somehow bugged out, and if c# isn't sure what to do with an empty date it initializes a date on 1.1.0001
And what do you know. Appearantly thats a Monday.
I broke my head way harder over this than I should have, assuming the worst possible bugs in the render engine. fml
Make. Set it up once and it does what it's supposed to. Repeatable.
Although I'm a vim user, I think make would be harder to replace for me than my editor.
I would love to get into more frameworks, but half of them make 90% of your work harder, are not documented well enough or are just confusing what they actually offer. 😥1
Scaled custom help desk software across 5 school districts. Way harder than it sounds when you realize that we needed a tunnel to get an external site working, complex routing to get the servers to communicate with one another without exposing one districts network to the others. And I also made it auto deploy on a successful CI test. The only thing that really perfectly worked on the first try was the database (CockroachDB). Everything else was a complete mess of DNS and routing rules.2
Ugh, doing laundry sucks. Partially because the laundry area is adjacent to the living room and that makes it harder to hear stranger things, but mostly because it signals the end of the weekend. But I decided to be positive and share some positivity with you:
No matter what challenges you will face in the next week, you can do it. The Universe/God/The Flying Spaghetti Monster chose you to face the challenges because you can do. If the universe can believe in you, then so can I. And so should you. Get out there and rock fellow DevRanters!!!
I would like to present new super API which I have "pleasure" to work with. Documentation (very poor written in *.docx without list of contents) says that communication is json <-> json which is not entirely true. I have to post request as x-www-form with one field which contains data encoded as json.
Response is json but they set Content-Type header as text/html and Postman didn't prettify body by default...
I'm attaching screenshot as a evidence.
I can't understand why people don't use frameworks and making other lives harder :-/3
Approaching the end of high school is really harder than it seems before you actually get to the last year. So many possibilities ahead!
Every Morning I wake up with a subtle headache. It’s not as bad as with a hangover but still like a dehydration headache. I drink like 3 - 4 Liters of Water per day though so it can’t be that.
Any ideas on how to fix this? It makes getting up just even harder than it already is..27
does life get harder than a fuck every single day or is it just me? 2pac was right, only strong do survive in this world1
Is it just me or is the 'storefront' test for CAPTCHA much harder than the schoolbus or traffic light? Could be my diminishing eyesight, or bourbon too.4
Anyone else work on a project that ends up taking all your time since it is way harder than you thought, but when it comes to talking about it to your supervisor you realize just how easy it really is and you just look stupid in front of the person youre explaining it to?4
When you started your first programming job was it easier or harder than you pictured because I feel like I'm no where near ready (although I'm not out of high school just yet so I have time to prepare but still)4
I had a user tell me how important he is and how our software is making it harder for important people like him to run reports on people in their region and how it "just doesn't make sense" for important people like him... and on and on and on and on.
I was on the phone for over 30 minutes.
Idea: postpone risky decisions to the 1st of April and say it was a joke if people don't like it.
~~Or keep them to troll people even harder~~
...This algo can predict new thermoelectric material discoveries years in advance...
Me to all material scientists : "Work harder or we'll replace you with AI".
P.S : I also need to work harder as I barely know the surface of Linear Regression.1
When you are asked to implement a fix for a colleague and do so.
Then a half day later you see another colleague change in the git repo, that's using more lines and is harder to read but basically does the same as your version
This book I'm reading on SEO is like drinking nightquil.
The more I read the harder it gets to not pass out.6
The people who developed JAutodoc should be punished. The people who use JAutodoc should be punished harder. And the bosses who force their employees to javadoc each function should be punished the hardest ...
- some random wise guy on the internet
I don't have many regrets in life but one would be that I didn't learn something harder at uni. I should have picked something like CS or cryptography or something like that. Even flat out math or physics would have been super useful.
On the other hand, the finance stuff I now see as common sense doesn't seem so common after all so there's that, and it helped me too.
I learned economics with specialization in finance btw2
Fuck AngularJS. "Modern technologies" just makes shit harder. I'ma try rewriting my client in JQuery and Handlebars.JS... But Node.JS 8 with the async and await stuffs is actually good "new" tech.
(Why tf did new get autocorrected to Jew?)4
I used to have time to read up on new web development tools and techniques and it helped me get a better job.
Now I have a better job I'm always busy, which I love, but it's harder to keep up to date.
I do some reading in my own time but it's more difficult to focus.
Thinking about it, I suppose I do keep learning just by being at work and solving new problems.1
Is it just me, or do Adobe products just get progressively harder to use? I'm thoroughly frustrated with trying to figure out how to do simple things like annotating screenshots in Photoshop, like I used to do several versions ago. All these damn options and non-intuitive names for things and crap scattered all over the UI. I just want to draw a friggin arrow and wrap red text in a nice box with a white background!!!1
Had a manager that, during performance reviews, would say things like:
"You need to work harder on managing our clients' warm fuzzies."
"I can't give you a hard number to strive for on this metric here because you'll just do the minimum"
Needless to say, the turnover in that group was insanely high.
When I quit my job making multiple bullshit excuses of how tired I am and how much better my life would be if I work from home and here I am been lazy for 2 - 3 months and didn't learn anything new also didn't practice what I know.
Honestly I'm so disappointed in myself and the fact that it was a good opportunity for me makes it harder on me blaming myself.
2020: ima tell y’all how I tell my fellow devs at the office. You only get out what you put in. Reach for what you want and understand what the market demands. If the markets flooding with PWAs then don’t spend weeks learning Wordpress plugins.... apply yourself harder then anyone else in the room to be inner-twined with the markets needs so that your worth is higher every year. Double your knowledge and worth this year.2
1. Sets up Airbnb listing for Mom
2. Domain check
3. Email check
4. Okay let’s setup a simple one-pager that we can share
*Uses html5 broilerplate and embeds Airbnb listing - simple*
Checks page, it comes up blank...
WTF!!!??? WHY!? *Checks Console: 1 million errors screaming about Content Security Policy*
Sigh, I can deal with logic errors in backend code. WebDev is just so full of esoterics and gotchas that have nothing to do with you business logic. They make really simple and trivial shit way more painful and harder than they need to be... Ugh4
Tomorrow I go back to work. It was one beautiful week of vacation after years without having one (since 2012) and the next one is comming up in 3 weeks. Man cannot wait. Started a small Spring Boot project with Vue.js as the front end and have been having a vlast with it (see what I did there) after considering many stacks.
Went through Python flask, ror, php lumen, php codeigniter, mean, Meteor, Sails and finally settled on Spring :) the front end was a tad harder since I am better with React and Angular but wanted to try something different. Cant wait till I continue with this.6
Fucking hell the AWS IAM documentation is confusing as fuck. Trying to set up a fucking role is harder than cutting a rock with a fucking spoon.
And who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to allow a CLI user to run any command he's allowed to without any form of authentication??
Oh, set up MFA for the CLI you say? Good fucking luck with that, if you ever manage to figure out how to set that shit up!
Fuck this shit!3
Guys, do you know any good source to learn MVVM to android (kotlin would be nice). I know MVVM theory and practice (I used it in WPF, C#). But i have hard times understanding how it work with android. I watched reso coder, but his tutorials are even harder to understand. Thanks3
It’s not the degree itself or even cs specifically that I find useful, but rather that you learn to put thoughts and ideas on paper in a structured manner. Explaining things you think you know is harder than it seems, especially when you know a teacher is going to grade you on how well you explain that thing.
Technology moves too fast these days for a program to he worth it in my opinion but the degree definitely raises the salary roof, so there’s always that.
I really try to not write passive aggressive replies but people who don't seem to read before typing are making things harder than they have to be.
"Wow, thanks you so very much for the suggestion. I mentioned that I already tested this scenario and that it seems to be unrelated to this case, but thanks for bringing it up again! Now I really question my ability to get my point across"1
Did devrant always down scale pictures to 50%? it just feels that recently pictures have become even harder to read if compressed+resized5
Dev work estimation is harder when the higher ups gives you a one line jira description and expect you to provide them with a timeline. Like how many times i gotta send the ticket back up the pipeline ><1
the closer i get to the ending
the higher the resistance
the harder i fight the battle to win
the harder life tries to prevent me from winning
just when we were about to finish
just in that moment life did its best to not make it happen
what do you want from me
i am just a human being
what wrong have i done in trying to help mankind
what is happening
why is this happening
what... do you want..... from me.......3
"If all else fails, [working harder than anyone else] is the greatest competitive advantage of any career." - John C Jay
Something I just read
"It’s hard to build a 100% secured system, the only thing you can do is to make the attacker’s job harder."5
Took me like an hour to finish the final assignment in a class where each project gets progressively harder. I was shocked, I was like “there’s no way it’s this easy. What did I do wrong”
Turns out the assignment I did was not even for marks, and the actual final assignment is completely different and MUCH more difficult.
Any other people here that find Python to be actually a harder language than Java? With Java it's much easier to keep track of your code and to track what variables refer to certain object types.
It feels like Python has much more quirks and feels therefore much more inconsistent as a language. Object oriented programming is more verbose with static methods and decorators being vague for example. This makes it harder to grasp concepts like design patterns and SOLID principles in Python imo.7
I can't seem to get a job. I know I lack team skills (agile team environmetn stuff) and "commercial" experience. But I had hoped by working on Opensource projects, displaying my ability to write clean documented code, and use of TDD publicly would help get to the initial interviews. But I'm still not hearing back from anyone and it's getting harder and harder to find work when I keep getting questioned about why I haven't been employed for almost two years3
If you start to get frustrated, take a break. Your brain has two modes of thinking: focused & diffuse. You can only utilize focused mode for a short time, and sometimes it's harder to look at the broader picture. Go take a walk, do some push-ups, or check devRant. You diffuse mode will make some connections when you're not even trying once you relax a little bit.5
working on a big app, developing front and backend while being focussed on design.
when you have more than 20 different layouts and you're forced to use license free stuff, life's getting harder every day.
why is material design so nice ;(2
I hate it when my language stop supporting '++' and '--' to make it easier to write. Like 'i++' is so harder to write than 'i +=1'
My planned big purchases for this year:
- Gopro Hero 5 or 7
- Play station or Xbox, can't be bothered to buy and maintain a PC for gaming or have time to cry over the forced Windows 10 updates.
- Bike jackets
Now gotta work harder to afford them.5
What do you think about this assertion: 'When I’m on my deathbed, I won’t look back at my life and wish I had worked harder. I’ll look back and wish I spent more time with the people I loved' ?5
No better way to start off a new year than to wake up to message from the boss telling you that you need to start to work even harder because there are projects overdue and clients has started charging penalties.
Of course he doesn't care that there are only two of us (me, a Junior Android Dev and he iOS Dev) and there are 3 projects, all with deadlines in December 2017 or January 2018.1
I want you to make that dream become a reality, because if you don't, you will be working for somebody else to make their dreams become a reality.
Listen to me, if it was easy, everybody would do it. There are people right now who are working who don't want to work. There are people who hate their jobs, but they keep getting up to do it.
I'm here to tell you, number one, that most of you say you wanna be successful but you don't want it bad, you just kinda want it. You don't want it badder than you wanna party. You don't want it as much as you wanna be cool.
So what I'm telling you is, when you want something bad you can't count the cost. Because if you count the cost and you see how much it costs. You might quit, you might give up. So you gotta go in knowing that I don't count the cost.
You just do whatever it takes, to get whatever you want! Boom! 👊 😎 👍3
The problem with those USB sticks that don't have the cover over them is that you can insert them upside down.
That turns out to be harder to fault find than when it just doesn't go in...
Devs: We've spent some time estimating the stories, and found that we will finish a month too late. Which stories should be removed?
Devs: Which are less important?
PM: All are vital. (read: Work harder)1
Whoever came up with the PSD2 can get fucked up their ass by all the cocks in the world combined.
Whoever fucked up the new security implementations so bad can get fucked up their ass by all the spiked, rusty, aids-contaminated metal poles in existance.
And whoever allowed all this to happen and approved it should take all the nukes in the world, shove them all up their worthless holes, and detonate them all at once.
Die in a fire.
Someone who's failing harder and harder every day to not lose faith in what little good there is in humanity.9
Making an efficient design foe large scale is way harder than what meets the eye.
Especially when legacy support is involved.
When date format is hard coded and application goes international. Application works ok until day turns 13. Error is seen a couple of days later, then it's the 1st again and everything is ok. Just to mention one of many strange errors. Just to make it harder, app works well if running in other countries that is using the same format. Daahh1
is it me, or does Microsoft just make everything either harder, or more annoying that it needs to be?...2
So i just saved myself like a day of work.
My boss wanted me to make a new endpoint for a webpage I'm working. Ok, spend yesterday afternoon planning it out.
Come in this morning, ready to write it. Look through our api docs. Turns out we have almost the exact endpoint i need, minus 1 simple field. Add the field (1 line of code).
Everything is looking good, I'm a day ahead of where i planned to be. I just wish my boss had told me of the endpoint earlier.
Planning and good docs pay off.
It was harder to do than expected and the code was not the most clever I ever saw.
Not sure what I was thinking during that time of my life 🤔
Working full time and going back to college......
I got my full time gig in January. This semester I decided to go back for my bachelor's because I only got my associates degree. Honestly balancing the homework and work isnt that bad. It's trying to get ANYTHING ELSE done....like getting and oil change, going to the dentist, etc. I have to use paid time off for all of it now. :(2
Why would they add a reason for downvoting but no reason for upvoting? Why would they make it harder to dislike something but like something? I mean, why would they? WHY DO THE APPLICATION NEED A REASON SO THAT I COULD DOWNVOTE SOMEONE
I wish eclipse would use an useful charset like UTF-8, instead of the windows-1252 charset. I feel like he only propose of this damm thing is to give germans a harder time coding
I feel like finding a replacement key for your laptop keyboard is way harder than it needs to be. I broke my 'A' key and after going through three different websites and 20 dollars later I've settled to just replace my 'A' key with my '7' key. 😕2
"Some people want their paychecks and to go home, and that’s fine. You and me, though—we’re gonna work harder than they do. We’ll build things that ensure that entire populations just setting foot on the web for the first time can tap into the collected knowledge of the whole of mankind." - Mat Marquis
Not using my period of unemployment to really delve into freelancing. It's much harder to do on the side. But I lacked knowledge and experience back then.
Also not interviewing companies better. Always ask about everything.
Who else finds its hard working from home/remotely? since I've been working remotely full time, I feel like I've been working harder and longer hours, I think its because I'm being evaluated solely by outcomes that I feel the need to put in more effort. Not like the days where I could rock up to the office for 8 hours and that was good enough, no matter how much work got done.1
Is it harder to work a full time dev job or be a full time CS student with a part time dev job? I’m currently living the second one and it’s hard to balance both work and school.7
I uploaded my static site on AWS. Doesn't load when I typed the public IP in the URL. Googled, found StackOverflow answer to traffic and ports as a security group to AWS. Tried it and it still doesn't work.
Hey Bluehost, sorry I left but I'm back now7
I can make sales people's lives easier or harder based on how I prioritise tasks... They learn to use manners when they realise my power!
It's like at YouTube they're making it harder and harder for their users to actually use it. Any ideas how this occurred?2
I'm not a fan. Harder to collaborate and discuss things with coworkers. I'm constantly fighting the urge to turn towards my gaming pc and start playing something. I only have one monitor instead of the 2 I have in the office. I suffer from depression and the social isolation will definitely exacerbate that. The commute to my office is less than 15 minutes so I'm barely saving any time there. Pretty much the only benefit for me is not needing headphones to listen to music.2
What in the actual fuck is vs code doing with the language servers? I am idle for minutes, but the language servers are constantly are roasting my cpu harder than linus doing code reviews.
Fucking hell, I can't enjoy the music in the background, with the cooling system crying.3
Css positioning is harder to understand than the full OOP concept.
So i wanted to create a very simple page with a single css file. I spent 2 hours to position the buttons in the fixed header and center some things.
I got the whole OOP concept with abstraction, polymorphism and inheritance in an hour and could use it right after without problems.
Holy shtcake i never want to do frontend.8
Some days I just can't seem to get any of my code working. What makes it worse is that it gets 'harder' to figure out the longer it takes because the stress of it all really wears me down...2
Web API: "Oh, I see that you're trying to update to our new design with a category and sub-category dropdown layout. Here's one api endpoint that provides you the whole table without fucking input parameters to filter per category and sub-category. Goodluck! And Have fun filtering through the json and sub-json response!
And btw, don't even bother asking me to update the endpoint. Cause admin already said that the UI SHOULD ADJUST TO THE API AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. AS THE APIs ARE HARDER TO REVISE"
It's not our fault your api design is crap. You piece of shits.
Shit my "Senior" Dev coworker days:
"Well, logically, lies are more important because it takes more effort to remember the lie, who you've told it to, and any extra stuff you made up to keep your story straight. Then, when you have more than one lie, you work even harder to keep them all in line".1
We had an IT question:
What's a window?
I wonder.... -.-
I mean bruh if you want us to study you gotta make shit harder.
Deciding to do some work is much harder than actually doing any. This New Year Depression is killing me.
my next challenge is now building a personal portfolio page :)
I'll create a one pager.
I'm just excited cause its a lil bit harder than building an easy tribute page. My heart will go on xD2
uPlay is ramming me down the throat harder than what should be legal, I can barely breathe.
I'm trying to install Far Cry 5, I preordered it. But.. download is stuck on fucking 0B. That being 0 bytes.
I tried disabling all firewall/antivirus, clean Windows boot, restart, reinstall launcher, slam the table, like everything.
Why isn't the shit fucking doing its job? Anyone who got ideas for what I could try next?
I'm not gonna send a message to their support, I'd rather have sex with a hedgehog, where I'm the one being penetrated. Fuck me.6
i actually feel much better when i am starving or barely eating, it strengthetns the focus to work harder in order to buy the bread7
Get a Model M.
Because seriously... I’ve listened to Model M ASMR and holy shit... I want one even harder now.
Sometimes a poorly planned project makes coding a lot harder especially if features and UI/UX always changes 😭
I am stuck on a UNIX legaxy project. This is the perfect time to learn awk, sed, vim. I use them but I wanna get better.
I can read a book, course, but I WANT to write code, maybe something like the hackerrank challenges but harder.
How do I get advanced in awk, sed, vim?7
During my career I have found that if you *don't use lambdas it will be harder for you to create callback hell. You don't NEED to use something everywhere just because you CAN.
"But lambdas are cool, our clients dig it".
Go fuck yourself.
*minimize the usage of3
Do people know of good resources (books, blogs, YouTube channels, whatever) regarding advancing to the higher levels of the tech industry?
I can find lots of resources for how to get started in your career but as I've advanced it gets harder and harder to find guidance (this is not surprising, but still lamentable). I am currently one promotion away from Senior at my company and I have no idea what to expect beyond that.
Is it a good idea to switch from learning openGL to learning Vulkan now?
I was learning openGL in the past months and now that Vulkan is out I am thinking about learning that instead. I've heard that it's harder to learn though, so roughly how long do you think it would take to learn it as a openGL novice?
In openGL I have used instanced rendering with different textures, specular maps in the shader all in perspective 3D of course.3
When you have a long line like this...
if ($obj->getStupidlyLongNamedThing() + $hard + $harder * $hard / $harder + $obj->getAlsoStupidLongThing([$sillyLongExpression, $thing]) > $obj->omgThisIsInsane());
If you're just going to be lazy and break it up however where where ever so it looks like crap...
Then I urge you to do one of two things:
* Shut up your face and turn on word wrap in the IDE rather than manually doing it even worse.
* Break the long parts into variable assignments or something.
* (or get a wider screen)
$a = $obj->getStupidlyLongNamedThing();
$b = $hard + $harder * $hard / $harder;
$c = [$sillyLongExpression, $thing];
$d = $obj->getAlsoStupidLongThing($c);
$e = $obj->omgThisIsInsane();
if ($a + $b + $d > $d);
With sensible variable names.3
"I love making the stuff, that’s sort of the core of it. I love creating the stuff. It’s so satisfying to get from the beginning to the end, from a shaky nothing idea to something that’s well formed and the audience really likes. It’s like a drug: You keep trying to do it again and again and again. I’ve learned from experience that if you work harder at it, and apply more energy and time to it, and more consistency, you get a better result. It comes from the work." - Louis C.K.2
Why do I get downvoted on Reddit when I post a link to my new blog post without any constructive feedback? It's even harder than StackOverflow.6
Learning how practice works by playing guitar, working at things slowly first then moving on to harder stuff.
Best: Getting really close to my team and having good times with them as well as having a client love their website so much they sent me gifts and a really nice note.
Worst: Rude client who treated me like shit, made my job 103837xs harder and made me want to cry, scream and not want to come in to work ever again.1
Do you ever overcomplicate an explanation to make things sound harder, because you know that explaining a hard thing simply makes them sound easy to people who just don't know?3
So I'm at my work computer, logged into my laptop two feet away using No Machine, trying to access my home computer using Teamviewer. Where will it end?!
The reason I can't just go from my work machine to my home machine is because we use an older version of Teamviewer than what I have installed at home - just thought I'd clarify before someone asked.3
Silence so I can hear myself think and then just write the first line. It's hard to start, but once I get going it is even harder to stop.
Sometimes I'm afraid of starting because the codingzone switches my brain into an Asperger patient. I just can't socialize afterwards. So if there is a evening meeting morning coding is a no-no.
Today I decided to stop learning every new language and technology to be focus on the one which will help me to do almost everything...
My teacher advises me to stay on C# with .net and work harder to become in some years a fullstack .net developer and expert.
Did I made a good decision?
Do you agree or do you want to suggest another thing ?28
Thanks google for making it so fucking damn difficult to authenticate G Apps users and check their groups/org unit. Makes my fucking work so much harder! To make matters worse you decided that that if I want to get the information in a seprate call I have to use a seprate admin account to do it because apparently letting the user see it is to fucking hard.
Just learned how to write Django apps... I think I'm going to have a harder time making the app look good with HTML. Thought I could just use a Jekyll template, yeah, seems to be a lot more work then it's worth.1
Why does the documentation in the website for API doesn't include the optional parameters to use?
Why are you making my life harder!
Good thing their github.io docs has the documentation for the parameters I needed.
So, why not include it in the official documentation?!
Feeling really lonely as the only one who cares about ethical tech. Everyone around me just wants to build money making products and it doesn't matter if it adds value, only if it makes money. I wanna do good things with tech but it's getting harder. And my company just put a new CEO in charge who has a business plan but no vision. No added value. Just taking money from customers, making them addicted to the product. That's all that matters.9
I've been doing a bootcamp in my country, learned the basics with c#, did some small projects but nothing too impressive. I started also web I'm that bootcamp, learned the basics of html css and js.. then all this corona madness started and yes, we still have classes online but less times a week and it's way harder. I'm feeling a little lost with what to learn, how and scared I might never be able to get a job. Ps. First rant and it does feel better even tho no one will read the whole thing :p2
For many years I've been an Opera browser user. I've also been a user of FVD Speed Dial.
The past few releases of Opera have made FVD harder and harder to use and the extension has even been removed from the Opera web store.
Version 60 of Opera completely broke FVD's ability to show up on a new tab (at least on Windows); an annoyance I don't care to deal with.
I liked Opera and was happy with it.
Now I've gone back to Chrome.4
I've been finding it harder and harder to balance both project management and development.
I frequently find that I don't have enough time to manage both.
Sometimes you just wish you could be two people.
I need a new job. anyone need a mid level PHP dev? LAMP symfony nosql APIs bash and so much more, after 4 years and they keep me at a Jr PHP dev title so it's harder for me to find anything else....5
Kinda sounds like a typical nerd, but playing video games. Thinking about all the moving parts in the game causes me to think harder about how I write my code.1
How do you go about finding work in the tech industry, to me it seems far harder sell then anything else?
Right now I’m struggling to get new business in since I do websites and apps
It seems because it’s niche and it’s a lot of money to put down it’s a risky sell to someone you don’t really know.
I believe my sites are quite good and I get decent feedback from customers telling me they get good results from their new site
🤷♂️ so I’m a bit at a loss
Ok fuck everything, I will not work today nothing is fucking working, the feature that I implemented easily in the last app, is harder to implement now because of the new version of the library. Even the old and same version of the library I used in the previous app is not compatible with the new version of the framework. What a freaking horrible development experience we are getting into. Developing should become easier not harder mother fucking library developers, should I write my own library now? fuck you, and fml too.
Using terminal-fusion in Atom after learning git from a dead simple guide online. I was expecting it to be much harder than it is ahaha1
I know it's not really code but, I'm so pissed my school now the blocked the registry editor, makes changing the unchanable wallpaper harder2
Is there how to get upload and download speeds balanced?
Will we be forever stuck as mostly consumers of internet instead of as much as producers?3
Rembember the good old time when you just needed 10 +1's for stickers? Well live is getting harder from now on.1
Is it me or is this code seem unnecessarily complicated?
This is a queue I have used myself:
This is a queue I ran across:
I understand the second link shows a queue that does a LOT more than the first example. It supports multiple produce/consumers for instance. It is also lock free. However, it seems really complicated to me. I was always under the impression that the more code you write the harder it is to maintain.2
Sometimes i need longer on the simple code than on the challanging code, because it's harder to distract me while i'm solving a problem
They think i build medical software prototypes. I build medical software prototypes. They also think their job (teachers, all of them) is much harder, because i only type some stuff, they are also correct on that part.
Let's say that you have (or had) a colleague that you utterly despise for whatever reason. Have you ever wrote convoluted or straight up spaghetti code on purpose just to make his/her life harder?
(I am aware that authoring bad code can bite you in the ass down the line, just curious to see if anyone ever went that far)
I worked sufficiently more time on r programming. I felt a bit stress and now my heart is beating abit harder even while I'm not coding. what's happening to me?
Right. My next project from now is to create a copy of the bc command. It'll be long. It'll be hard. But that's the end of the harder part! 💪
Trying to broaden my skill set by learning angular 2 ( no experience of prior angular )
But this is turning out to be harder & more frustrating than expected.
Any advice on how to get started with angular?4
Everyone's stressing and regretting not buying/investing in Bitcoin when it was hella cheap way back when and now it's even harder to join in with the whole bubble view.
Don't mind me and my Forex though. I'm sticking with the other traders of actual currencies.1
Does anyone else work for a DoD contractor? I am totally incompetent at my job and was wondering how long it would take for them to fire me.
I heard it’s harder since it’s a DoD contractor.
Not sure if I oversold myself in the interview of what but boy do I need a lot of help.11
I don't understand those rants about problems that can be fixed by just googling some keywords..or even the slightly harder ones where you could just tinker with the device for a bit and get closer to a solution/workaround... i mean if it's not a hardware problem then it can clearly have a solution.
1- you use your knowledge for good
2- you learn something new
3- you don't let the tech guys get bothered by small tedious problems
In university, would it be better to study civil engineering for my bachelor and then move to computer science for my master, or would it be better to start with computer science in the first place?
With a bachelor in civil engineering I can always go do something else if computer science doesn't turn out, but I fear that it also might be a lot harder (to study). I'd like to hear your advice on this issue.2
Recommend some interesting/innovative VR games that may be harder to come by? I want to get an idea of what's out there.
Platform doesn't matter (I can access any).
So I just introduced devRant to a friend of mine and now he hates me for making his life harder :/ where do I type "sudo apt-get remove devRant" into him?1
Learning Spring at the moment... The autowiring thing gives me a lot of WTF moments but I think that's why people love it. Can't find any good tutorial explaining what's under the hood either.
And I don't know why I just have this great idea of "let me make it harder" by switching to IntelliJ from Eclipse at the same time. As if it's not bad enough that I need to produce something useful within a short time...1
What's harder than debugging an uncaught exception in a view
If only debuggers like vs can attach to the server side logic of the views
So all the new frontend work needs to be completed with a proprietary toolset called Telerik. Before I was contented to submit to all the frontend tasks as it won me more Vue experience, but now that won’t be the case.
Will it be harder to sell my skillset to another company? Companies only get Telerik if they pay the cash.4
It's always hard to balance time between romantic affairs and programming projects when both are going on simultaneously. I've been talking to a girl at my college, and even though she doesn't take up much of my time, I still feel like it's harder to make time for my programming. I guess this is more of dating affecting my code, but I personally prioritize code over dating currently in life.
Can I get some advice on converting between languages (by hand unless I can find a program to do it)
Python variant (micropython) to C++
This project just keeps getting harder and harder for me. :(
How do you guys deal with spacing in react? I already tried: putting it in components' styles directly, creating a component for whitespace and making utility css classes. Still I always end up finding a situation where it becomes harder and/or requires a workaround.
What's harder than trying to name a variable is to think of a memorable but easy to type password to a system that resets expires every 3 months with history checks.2
