Finally moved. My Internet speed went from 500kbs in general to 50mbs!
I can finally download por.... ISO's without having to wait for hours!39 -
My first dev job was the worst! The woman in charge of the building was always on my ass! She didn't really understand what programming was and didn't like that I smoked in my office... Then I moved out of my mom's house and got my own place9
-
Logged in after approx 1.5 years. I want to be active here again! In the past 1.5 yr, I ...

Ok, rubber ducks are ducking helpful, but I moved to use actual ducks.
If you are currently stuck somewhere where your rubber-mate cannot help out, feel free to ask. I’ll forward.14 -
Line numbers should be on by default on all editors for fucks sake. Why the hell it is the other way around??11
-
I've ranted so much, this is where they moved me to. They couldn't fire my because I was too valuable an asset to the project.13

Had a former customer call a few (10) years ago, furious that we shut down their website.
Me: but you moved your website to another provider 2 years ago? We dont even provide webhosting any more?
Turns out, when they moved we put a redirect to their new site on our server.
During the summer this server was decommisoned due to a failing harddrive but since we no longer had any active customers on it we just pulled the plug.
The customer had never actually redirected their domain name. :)
When we sent them a copy of their own cancellation letter we got an "oh hell, sorry".
:D1 -
Just got asked "How much experience do you have with the current JavaScript standards? I'm talking ES6 and ES7" in an interview with what I assumed were technical people.
I chuckled and said "I'm comfortable with ES8" as a joke but everyone just nodded and moved on..7 -

Linux is freedom.31 -
Just moved, new room, let's try to setup port forwarding!
Well, i thought that too. Just spent hours trying to get this motherfucker to work. Tutorials, everything.
Every time that damn can't connect error. About to lose my shit.
Suddenly *hold on, is Apache installed on my new KDE Neon installation?!*
*oops* 😅5 -
After 3 hours of trying to implement a feature, I’ve moved from 10 errors to 7 errors!
At least I’m doing some progress, I guess... 🤷♂️6 -
Items checked since entering devRant the last time:

The end of my decade was pretty good.5 -
Yeah! I moved to Greenland 🇬🇱 and this is only a few minutes walk from where I work, soon going to make a punch clock system for the bar I tend!
Excited? Oh yeah!9 -
Moved out a few months ago. Love my setup. Dual monitor at desk and a big ass TV + laptop for when I want the couch. Coffee to top it off.20
-
I quit my job, moved back home and will be studying my butt off and creating an impressive portfolio for the next 6 months to get a dream 100k+ remote job.16

Just moved into our new house today and my wife gave me an early Christmas present. Really just completes my new office. This beautiful lamp is touch activated on each individual light and each light is individually dimmable by touch as well. 😍 had to share7
-
Moved in to new house, finally have myself a room for an office. Started to deck it out and the wife asks if we can find matching chairs, one for her, one for me...
It's more than an office, its supposed to be my man/dev cave!11 -
I graduated 3 months ago from computer engineering, landed a job far far away from home. Moved. I wake up every morning wondering if it was the right call. Seems like I am growing up.7

Me in 2015: think I'm gonna learn JavaScript.
Me in 2017: think I'm gonna learn JavaScript.
It's like that ex you always want to call but you keep thinking she's moved on...7 -
Just got moved from contractor to full time at my dream company halfway through my contract. On top of the world right now 😀5

Yesterday I got my first promotion that was based on merit and not because I graduated or moved company 🍻

My tech stack progression:
Started with PHP without any frameworks, using a homegrown MVC architecture. Used to use `mysql_` functions everywhere. And only jquery + vanilla CSS in the front end.
Then moved to use PDO functions in PHP and Backbone.js + Less CSS in the front-end.
Then moved to Django in the back-end. Did not like Django very much as it is too opinionated and not flexible (although it's damn good for rapid development if you buy into their type of things).
Then moved to Flask + SQLAlchemy and using a home grown architecture. This is a sweet spot for me in terms of back end and stayed in this spot for the longest time.
Moved to Postgres from MySQL as I fell in love with Postgres.
Then learnt React+Redux. Liked it. Made most sense to front-end development this way. Moved front-end stack to React+Redux.
Learning Haskell and been working with Scotty and eyeing Servant for a while now.
Let's see where it goes from here.
PS: this is my personal journey through various tech stacks in various products at various companies I have worked. I'm not talking about moving a product through these many tech stacks. That doesn't make any sense.9 -
New company moved in above us... Slogan : Blockchain, AI, Augmented reality and banking apps.....
Dude come on thee must be a buzzword CEO3 -
After working for 5 years after getting my bachelor's, I have moved country and started work on a Master's.
Nothing is more humbling in CompSci than realising the depth of what you /don't/ know. Imposter syndrome, anybody?2 -
The world has moved to json, webservices, lightweight frameworks. And here I am writing IDLs for my company's CORBA based product.
P.S. Corba is so obsolete, devRant doesn't even provide an autocomplete for the tag7 -
Had to get an app moved to a new test server “ASAP”. Got it done, emailed the tester, got the response “Great! We will start testing middle of next month.” Why is my side the only one that needs to rush?2

Moved in with my SO. No not Stack Overflow. Anyway. The hardest part about it is choosing a good Wifi name. We acctually need two names.
Go.
Edit: the perfect name would have a Star Wars reference in it.33 -
I'm internally moved from envy feelings against the very first users of StackOverflow.
The ones that got tens of thousands of upvotes for questions like "how to set the width of a div element?"3 -
Boss: Hey, remember the module due to Friday?
Me: yes...
Boss: the deadline was moved.
Me: (good news?) Ok, when is it due now?
Boss: tomorrow.
Me: ...6 -
Hm...I would except since COVID started, moved back to my parents, so use my dad's laptop for work... He uses it on weekends.6

When you're a multimillion dollar company that ships software used by oil and gas and you still haven't moved away from VB6 for extensions while in the 21st century... Well, you're certainly missing out on the accelerating telegram industry.

2017 was a dream come true literally.Long story short, I quit my job of 6 years as a PE teacher, studied Android Development through Udacity's Nanodegree program, moved my wife and kids out of our house (we were renting), moved in with my in-laws, Trusted God, learned how to build Android apps, applied at numerous tech companies, got offered 2 jobs, got hired as an Android Developer in Tennessee in December making almost more than twice I did as a teacher. My first day of work is January 8th. What a year it's been!6
-
So I just moved into a new apartment ... wait is the phone plugged to an ethernet port? ha didn't expect to have VoIP, so lucky5
-
I was MEAN developer and moved to MERN developer.
My thoughts:
Angular very good framework BUT react + redux fucking awesome7 -
Client company will only move to the cloud once they learn their competitor has, in fact, moved to the cloud. Way to compete guys.
You ain't shit.2 -
Be me, miss specifying the item in an array so a drop-down doesn't work, get fired from the project and moved to a much lesser project.
Be the other guy, fuck up the app so bad you have to roll back 3 weeks worth of work...no big deal...1 -
Just moved to my own place, got more work done in 48hrs than I could've in a double that time with flatmates around. 💃👯
Now about that monitor setup...6 -
Got moved to testing last week, (due to lack of testers) being a developer it requires a whole different mind set to test !!!
But running selenium scripts and again verifying manually sucks.
But what hurts the most is rejecting something that you approved during peer review 😱🤭3 -
Online team meeting at 9:30 am, I wake up at 9:25 am
Wake up. Meeting was moved at 9:00 am and renamed to "CRITICAL". It's been 45 minutes and I still don't know what broke, but I'm too scared to ask.3 -
Duckduckgo is AWESOME :)
So happy I moved on from Chrome & Google (just searching for now, its a long process)6 -

So, Boris Johnson just got moved to intensive care. Fucking poetic Justice if I've ever seen it.26 -
I moved from a no-dogs-allowed company to an office with three dogs in.
Forget the better salary, the more freedoms, the nicer boss I have now.
The main benefit is that I get to pet dogs every day now!7 -
Manager: How's (insert dumbass task that they assigned literally 1 hour ago) going? 😊
Dev: We have JIRA for a reason, you'll see it will be moved to demo / review when it's ready.
Manager: ...

I've recently moved abroad to study and I only brought the most essentials with me. And I like to stay hydrated 😅4

I asked my friend to design a flyer for an organization's annual dinner, asking her to send me an invoice so I could pay her (I can't design worth shit, she's doing me a huge favor).
She said she'll do it, declined payment, and doesn't even want me to get approval for her to put it in her portfolio...
How the hell do I pay her back for her work? If we lived in the same town, I'd at least take her to coffee and lunch, but she moved states and I moved countries :(8 -
Coding has actually made my life more social.
Because I taught myself programming, I became a consultant.
I got to meet nice colleagues, customers and managed to become good friends with some of them.
Because of programming, I moved to a big city and I have lived like a f*cking rockstar!2 -
!dev sucks++
Soo, my GF who I moved to Germany for wrote that we needed to talk on Friday (today is Monday).
I was away for the weekend, and yester I asked what I could expect when I got home.
She wrote that we could hug, but not kiss...
One short phonecall later, she had broken up...
So now I will have to figure out what I will do... I don't have a home anymore (moved into her apartment), my job sucks, so nothing left...
Hold me22 -
I was finally moved to a production project after 2 months in my internship.
Almost had a heart attack after seeing the source code. Thousands of lines of code. So many files. So many things to understand.
I hope I don't lose my brain before getting a stress ball :(5 -
Just moved to linux. Went with elementaryOS. Already ran into a little issue with eclipse which is now fixed. For those of you who use linux, what distro do you use, is there any special commands that really come in handy?19
-
I was hired to do a massive project as a temp. I got part way done and they hired me full time to finish. Then I moved to putting out production fires for unrelated systems until I left.2

Dreaming to be an architect as a child, to later discover that the world need precise calculations to work. Moved to 3D modeling, and then discovered Html trying to do a website for my models. From that to Js, Servers, Linux, C#... And the story continues...

There's nothing like cleaning out a cupboard of stuff you have long since moved on from only to find this hidden in the corner.
I once had a Mac, it's still a piece of shit and I'm not convinced Apple ever made life easier to use one of these 😅3 -
Today we moved a lot of stuff from one server to another and nothing broke!
Today was a great day!!!
Tomorrow might be a bad day though...2 -
In Android O RAM statistics got moved to developer settings.
So this means you are a Dev if you know what ram is??6 -
I am African (Nigerian), I just moved to Berlin, what am I supposed to look out for to blend in?
🙏17 -
A coworker during scrum today: "Last week, I worked on the new feature. Also, I have an announcement for everyone: I'm going through a divorce so I moved in with my parents and will be working remotely for a while. I have no blockers...except for the divorce."1
-
Computers and their peripherals are constantly advancing, but keyboards... keyboards never change, We pretty much just stole the idea from typewriters and moved on.8

God bless being a student. I just moved a massive calculation to uni's jupyter servers. Saved me from a shitton of effort and burning my laptop down. 🙏

Step #1) Teach Alexa to respond to "When is Memorial day" with an incorrect date in the future
Step #2) Ask Alexa, next to your wife.
Step #3) See how long you can keep your wife going on "the government moved Memorial Day due to Coronavirus" before she realizes your just a prankster.1 -
Im 17 and Im studying IT in Norway. I started learning to program when I was 9 years old (web design) and then later moved onto Object oriented programming. Now in some classes we do web design, I can watch Netflix in programming classes6

Holy moved notifications, Batman! I like it, but boy was I confused when my hamburger didn't have lettuce on it.2

My friends at work think i am a master race asshole cuz I moved solely to pc gaming.
In reality....i am just cheap af.13 -
I'm pretty sure every company is filled with parasites who suck the life out of the 3 top people who keep everything working.
Maybe when we see a tech company enshitify, it's because those 3 people burned out and moved on.4 -
So...Just got moved from salaried to hourly for an already extremely overworked, underpaid position. Lost our flexible hours and our platform is moving to drop and drag...Watch them say no overtime now. Beyond pissed!😡1
-
My phone fell down for the thousandth time and i thought it was okay as it usually has been in previous attempts at suicide.
Pressed power button ...
Screen turned on showing lock screen...
Touched back key .... phone vibrated....
Hmmm... It's okay. Didn't try unlocking screen...
Received a call later on....
Swiped to pick up call.... Nothing moved...
Turned the screen off. Turned it on again. Tried opening screen lock. Again nothing moved...
Got an OTG and plugged a mouse into phone.
Cursor moves.
Alas... My Phone's Touch Unit is DEAD :/7 -

Today I cleaned my computer SSD (moved ~30GB to a 2TB external drive) and I found 12GB of lost projects.
I thought that I've lost them years ago. They were just looking at me in their big folder. -
Got new chair 🙌 finally after 2 months of sitting on crappy chairs, and I moved to a new place. Here it is, I’m very excited to work in this setup, starting tomorrow 🎉(smaller keyboard and stand is planned 😎)3

Just signed my work papers, managed to get a front-end developer position after looking for a while! Moved to a much bigger city too6

Last week I stayed at a hotel near Prague. They named their access points like "first floor left" or "restaurant".
Even after 5 days I still had to retype the same generated password when i moved like 5 meter within the building... -
*right click on image*
[nothing happens]
*spams right click, thinking about getting a new mouse*
[small modal shows up: "this content is protected!"]
*laughs in developer's console*
I never thought I'd get to see a website that "protects" its content by disabling right click, I'm moved :')3 -
Someone recently told me that learning command line is pointless for a developer today, the world has moved towards GUIs for a reason and there is no point in making your dev life harder.
Opinions?25 -
I’m being moved from a lead developer role to a lead project management role. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, manage projects of those who can.1
-
Historically I've done Java but have recently moved to C# and got the book to do a cert.
Who thought it would be a good idea to start chapter 1 with threads, concurrency, asynchronous calls and PLINQ, then covering boolean expressions, if statements and loops in the section after??6 -
Fax machines connected to VoIP connections...
Had a nightmare recently, where my fathers machine that he really needs refused to work after he moved appartements.
Uncounted calls with different tech departments, a furious fathers and two weeks later they found out, that they forgot to activate the protocol.3 -
I wanted to rant but I just been moved from a governemental project in Python 2, to a shiny one on Python 3. Have a good day you too!
-
So I recently moved into an student house. Its really awesome but the only thing thats frustrating as fuck is the internet. Its like 50 - 200 kbs. I litterally type in slow motion over ssh. It stops working every few days and the dhcp range is to small :(. Not like my landlord can't afford better internet. There are like 50 people in this building and I think we have the basic abbonement.
Luckily I get my own internet next thuesday. I can't wait.4 -
Finally moved over to Sublime Text.
Now I just need to figure out how to make it my default text editor.8 -
Just got picked in a national “lottery” for mandatory military training for a year. And I moved to another city more than half a year before, got a very good job. Fml. Europe at that5

Found this gem in a comment from a couple of years previously:
// This shouldn't be here - needs moved to a separate handler. Likely to cause all sorts of weird bugs
No shit, Sherlock! Like the one I'm bloody trying to make sense of now!1 -
The client in my previous two rants officially hired me as their Head of Tech Support.
I moved into the tech support office today, with a super comfy ergonomic chair and a huge table.
If only there's someone else here...... -
Moved to Azure because my country has massive electricity stability problems and company is worried about hosting providers' reliability.
Host static web app in West Europe. West Europe goes down for a couple of hours because of power outage in Europe.13 -
I've been wondering why I have such big issues with DNS propagation on a website I moved - I just checked and somebody modified the old A record to have TTL of... 7 days.
Jesus fucking christ, why?3 -
devRant - only app ever where I wait for a solid 2 minutes for the rant to load and find that it hasn't loaded and refresh it again to get it to load properly, while other websites and apps I would have moved on long ago
-
The moment I need internet to do things (npm with angular), but the company moved to a new building and internet is screwed. It'll still take a while to set up. So now I'm sitting here, ranting on devrant and doing nothing.
My exact face and thoughts right now:1 -
Turns out I'm terrible at meeting people. Go figure, it's the cliche of being a dev.
I just moved into a pretty nice apartment in a nice area, but I I know literally nobody here aside from coworkers. The only friend I have left that hasn't moved away is in jail for a good while. 😧
The only place I can think to meet people is at a bar/club - which isn't really my thing. Even then, just walking up to a stranger and striking up a conversation just seems fucking weird to me.
Anybody have any advice on making new friends in basically a new town?14 -
I love musical desks. Ive been here about a year and a half and ive moved desks about 10 times. Fml4
-
Our company recently moved to git and the number of people who do not understand basic git concepts like commit and push are too damn high! I don' get it, its a completely logical model, what is so hard to understand.4

Boss at meeting to us all: "All our data is going to be moved to this fantastic system x has made called Oracle. I don't think they created oracle."3
-
Started to Work after school and did not went to any University like all of my friends. Best choice ever 👌. A half year later I moved in with my girl, went on holidays I could not afford before and got the best colleagues at work😁3

Talking to our helpdesk guy, our financial services controller emailed an 'emergency' restore from backups of 'missing' documents, stating they (the networking dept) violated company file retention policy and opened the company up to fines and other regulatory prosecution if we were audited. Once the files were restored, she wanted a system review of the policy to make sure this never happens again. She made sure she cc'ed VPs and other managers.
He found the files, they were moved one directory up and the log showed she had moved the directory earlier in the morning. He moved the files back and let her know.
Her response, "OK, Thanks" (funny, she didn't cc the VPs and other mgrs on the reply)
Glad I'm not the only one subject to end-user bat sht over-reaction craziness.1 -
I once made a small Tower Defense game for school and had an issue where I put an image on coordinates 0,0 but I still had a black border. Rather than looking for the issue, I just moved the background slightly out of the viewport and called it Workaround Defense.
-
Another log in issue because of moving from country to country...
If only I had a dollar for everytime a system didn't let me in after I moved... I'd be financially comfortable.14 -
Our team has finally moved to git fron svn and i'm loving it. I don't understand why would anyone use svn 😐. Would like to know if any of your team uses it2
-
How long do you recommend 'sticking it out' in a new role? I moved 2,500km for a new job and so far I have been training on the worst development platform I have ever seen, produced diagrams, printed documents and taken meeting notes 😡. #IJustWantToProgram
-
Finally moved all the shitty WordPress sites off our production servers. They are GoDaddy's problem now. Brute force away China.
-
When your mostly done code that you spent time on documenting and keeping clean gets handed over to the sloppiest dev on the team. Because that dev is out of tasks and you got other work that moved up in priority. I really hope he doesn't ruin everything :(3
-
Moved one of my Java projects to Gitlab. Really loving the Auto DevOps and CI. Currently not missing GitHub.
-
Quantum computing is at least trying to be the next "ML".
People seemed to ignore it over decades but suddenly a few months back, everyone got excited on Google's headline progress.
Later, people realized it is not a big deal and everyone moved on.5 -
So i moved house a while ago and noted down the root admin's username and password along with all the critical directories including root db location and slapped the sticker onto my personal cloud.
I Just haven't gotten around to set it back up again.
So there's that...4 -
I recently moved to another apartment. The technician who was going to install the internet connection on Saturday couldn't make it because apparently you hace to ask for permission with 48hrs of anticipationwith the administrator of the apartment complex. So all weekend with no internet I felt like a fucking caveman FML.
-
When you find colleagues still using the Java Calendar class despite having moved to Java 8 and the java.time package long ago.
-
Just moved this weekend into the first home I've ever actually owned. Bought a scotch older than myself to mark the occasion, but I want to save it to share with my brother sometime during Yule (that's an agonizing abstinence for me). But at least someone gifted me with a Macallan 12 yr for housewarming that has been hitting the spot quite nicely.
Got my PC set up already to unfortunately go back to work tomorrow. Speaking of which, is it like "Recruiting Season" or something? I have been hit up like crazy about other opportunities, at a time when my company that i've been with almost 4 years seems to be floundering to get its shit together.
I guess I haven't paid much attention in the past to whether I get hit up with "opportunities" more at the end of the year or not. But its something I'm seriously considering right now. 2020 was mostly stagnant for me, and ending the year with moving is a high note. Would not mind continuing this trend of change whilst I still have to wait for the world to be able to resume "normalcy" a while longer.2 -
When your company expects you to manually change information in the production db by saying "hey, client Billy wants his stuff moved back to where it was"3
-
If i always would say what i think during programming or Bug fixing some code, i probably get fired and moved to a anti Aggression Therapy
-
I just moved my personal projects over to Jira... since I'm my own PM.. does that mean I hate myself?
-
because i saw the potential ((and) power) of games since the first moment i ever moved my joystick in one, and i wanted to be a creator of such powerful magical universes.
-
Developed a very simple REST api with pure php. Eventually "api/users/" worked but "api/users" was 301 moved!!.. it was a big problem1
-
I moved my website to aws and I managed to use cloudflare, load balancer (to skip around route53), ec2 and RDS with no programming skills. Starting to enjoy this :D
-
We just moved from ClearCase to git and got to deleted all the dead code and unlinked files that have been stuck in the repository for ten years. The most satisfying toilet flush ever.
-
The person responsible for making layouts in CSS/HTML got moved from our project and now our team had been forced to improvise by ourselves until a replacement is found.
Suddenly all those old, untouched bugs seem very appealing.1 -
Moved from a gambling company to a government body. Got to say I'm less stressed about estimates now but more worried about standards here.
Stress and career development < No Stress and less career development.
Ask me in a few months.4 -
Host: The 'sessions' folder is too full, we moved the website in a quarantine server.
Me: Well, someone forgot to cleanup sessions when they're done.
Boss: Just delete the folder contents every 3 days!
Me: What.2 -
devRant bot will be going down shortly while it is moved to Beep Boop.
After this transition, you will be required to reauthorize the bot with your Slack team.
You will be able to do this here: https://beepboophq.com/bots/... -
Just moved countries and started a new job at an awesome company, which is so great I have nothing yet to rant about.
Oh here goes: almost three weeks with no internet at home and no end in sight.2 -
I had a tight deadline so what I did to finish the feature was to cut corners by not writing optimized code and not doing enough dev testing to ensure the feature works.
End of today, I've moved the ticket to QA.3 -
I graduated from a bootcamp this February, moved to London and I was certain someone will hire me in the first two weeks. I have never been this wrong4
-
I learned to code by trying too automate things. I started out with Windows batch and moved up to Java before I discovered the magic of C, C++, Python, and now Swift1
-
Just wrote a Scala test class using Sublime, felt like I moved faster than with IntelliJ... Maybe I should try vim next?1
-
I just moved to VSCode. I just don't find a theme that fills me up. Maybe i'm looking a reason to procrastinate?9
-
Well I have moved all of my iPhobe stuff to my new Google Pixel 2. Time to see what happens now...3
-
3 weeks till deadline... Gonna be hard. Get in find emails from PM, boss and his boss, deadline moved deadline today... Ffs.1
-
I moved to another ISP today. Now my download speed is 40Mbps and upload 20Mbps. I can browse devRant faster and download porn much faster via IDM.12
-
Hoping to have moved away from PHP and onto a different programming language. Or at least be in a job that pays me what I'm really worth.5
-
So my office tends to have seating rearrangements every few months due to the amount of people increasing in the company. In the 1 year that we moved to this office, I have been lucky to not have moved seats drastically.
Today though my team got moved to a new area. The previous area was already pretty small, the new area is even smaller where dual monitors JUST fit on the desk. With more people being hired by the month, there's going to be no more room again. I really wish the company would look at just hiring actual talented staff rather than hiring just to meet demands. Again, it's all about quality, not quantity!! -
You know what really boils my piss?
Clients who email in all caps.
"URGENT HELP, CAN'T RECEIVE EMAILS"
Followed by two lines of bitching about how this keeps happening and they'll move elsewhere if it's not fixed asap at 11pm.
WELL GUESS WHAT?
YOU MOVED YOUR EMAILS AWAY ALREADY! -
My childhood basically. Saved up all my money to buy Pokémon games. I had one that was red tho. The amount of hours I spent on this thing... If not thousands of hours... Tens of thousands...
Then moved to Minecraft, and that's how I got coding 😇 (batch but still)5 -
That feeling when you've already moved on from your previous rant and posted a new one - but your old rant keeps getting +1's while your new rant remains stagnant.

WHY THE FUCK ARE CODECS STILL A THING?
Have we as a society not moved on and found like the 4/5 "good enough" movie formats. Fucking bullshit needing me to download VLC for the first time in years -.-
AND WHY THE FUCK ARE CODECS ON SALE ON MICROSOFT STORE???? WHAT?9 -
Update on SSHFS:
I have now moved over to a Samba share that auto-mounts via fstab. It took way too goddamn long....4 -
Sick of manually punching holes in punchcards, moved to microcode on the mighty DEC PDP-11...time for my nap.
-
Most hacky things I've ever done:
A windows scheduled task that kicks off a massive as fuck ETL job, riddled with errors. Damn thing had a mind of its own and only ran whenever it felt like it. Client was happy, deadlines were met, boss moved me to another task. -
Another step down the rabbit hole.
I've moved from running VMs when I want Linux, to a Fedora 26 / windows 10 dual-boot.3 -
Been moved out of the main office to a larger room for social distancing. Other staff also working from here. Seems convenient to them to have on-tap IT support. Driving me fucking crazy. I wonder if I can justify working from our server room to get some peace...4
-
Overall not much, but I think I would have moved on faster and harder. Definitely spent a bit too much time on a salary that was well below market rate just because I was overly-cautious about moving.
-
Why do all schools/colleges in my area only provide web development nowadays? -_- It's like the schoolworld has moved on from using C for any native running software and wants to use PHP for that instead...2
-
Mandatory WFH for everyone for the next 3 days.
I have just this weekend moved to a new apartment and haven't got WiFi yet. :/2 -

Manager: calls me on Wednesday and asks that have you moved your changes to UAT on Monday?, the client wanted to test it.
Me: Started looking for a new job immediately. -
once I was listening to Kanye West, Drake and jay-z while scrolling through the my twitter. I was so inspired and moved by the music that I decided to built a website that teaches egocentric, entitled people the foundational skills needed to rule the world.1
-
Project managers moved all the tickets around and then got mad that we couldn't find them to log our time.
Mass mutiny about logging time in general and expected dev hours per week.
They returned the tickets to the old system at least -
Hey guys, I wouldn't really mind if you moved the live devrant podcast thing to a later time, I have school and I would kill or die to be there for it. Kill. Or. Die.9

Moved house on Friday, everything sorted but will have to wait up to 10 days for broadband and stuff to go live.
It's like living in the dark ages...5 -
I'm genuinely curious: Is there anyone here who is offended by the use of the name 'master' for a Git repository 'main' branch? If we all moved to 'main' and never used 'master' again (for anything, Git or not) would that make a difference to you?37
-
I've recently moved from google to duckduckgo for my searches, Having in mind the growing concern of user privacy, what do you guys suggest for search engines, browsers, os, recommended addons, apps, vpns etc?13

So, today's the day.
I'm moving to Canada! Super excited, but kind tired of all the moving around I did throughout the years...
Wish me luck 😊
Also, how many of you have moved countries at some point, as with our profession it seems quite easy?6 -
Our team moved to scrum a while back. But everybody still does story point estimation by mentally assigning 1 story point for each day of work it would require. :/
On top of that, management compares the performance of two *different* scrum teams based on the story points they finish in a sprint. :// -
Got a call about an entry-level job with Boeing. It was four hours away from where I live though. My wife and I just moved so neither of us feel like picking up and moving again... we literally just finished unpacking yesterday. So another cool opportunity lost. Bummer man. 😒2

i am so excited about my first collaboration in 12 years! finally someone considers my capabilities as useful. now i just hope to not mess up the repo.
last time i was pair programming with my best friend, but since i moved all of this fell apart. -
I uninstalled Brackets today. I haven't used it for about a year since I moved over to VSCode. I genuinely shed a tear thinking about the websites I made with it. I wrote my first line of Node in that program... Goodbye old friend1

Okay so I'm one of those developers who haven't moved to constraint layouts yet. I've been working on heavily nested layouts (for obvious reasons) and the gravity chooses to kill the fun every time :))2

-
Moved into management and now I miss the coding part of my job? Wtf is wrong with me, I used to dread coding.2
-
Time to face the truth.
I'm being moved from one team to another. Which is great.
But the reason I'm being moved is to take over for another dev. So that dev can get a promotion. So basically I'm getting a promotion, without the pay raise.
I can't fight this either.
So I'll take this as an opportunity to get all the experience. Also begin looking around.1 -
That moment when you realize your laptop is two years old already and all the stickers you have on its lid cannot be moved to a new laptop you will buy one day. 😢😔3
-
They moved my desk again. Still an open floorplan, but the room is much smaller, and in this office I'm sitting by people with whom I actually work.
Also there's WiFi in the can, so I'm all set. -

Moved from Chrome to Opera like a year ago and had awesome experience with it.
Is there anything I'm missing?11 -
I moved house yesterday and now it's been around 27 hours since I last used my computer.
All I want to do is create but my setup is in boxes in another room and it's 5am.
Why must motivation strike at the worst times?2 -
Secondary school: 3,5 years teaching C# without the slightest clue of OOP. Literally only had 2 classes, where he presented us an example code(which wasn't even written by him), than we rather moved on to HTML and CSS.
-
Out of the Operating Systems, I think Windows has the best file moving system.
Yes, you're unable to transfer files if they're currently in use, but you can start new file moving jobs in the middle of a current file moving process, and as of Windows 7, files that are unable to be moved for whatever reason don't cancel out the entire move.
Linux is next best because files will move regardless of if they're in use or not, and a file that is unable to be moved for whatever reason also won't cancel the entire move. However, if a new file move process is started, it will pause until the current move job is completed, which is a pain if moving a lot of large files.
Mac is the worst. One failed move results in cancelling the entire process. If a file will be duplicated or is unable to be moved, if you cancel that specific move, you have to start it all over again. No way to cancel or skip, just start it all over.4 -
I've moved to Linux I'm gonna give it a week. See if it's any good I know if I need windows as a virtual machine it's there 95% speed ain't bad3

Why is there so few rants about wordpress?
Have people moved on? Am I forever stuck in this void of terrible people that believes wordpress is a good system because its free? Opensource? I have heard all the arguments. Not a single one of them are valid.7 -
Moved from Wordpress to Hugo + Github pages. Blogging is now so much better. Markdown support on the free version of Wordpress sucks.

Two days ago I moved my active git repos to Keybase, created teams for each project and was so pleased to have one place to serve for chat, git and files. Now I have to move everything back and find new alternatives 😩5

So I moved to a new company.
When entered there at first working day, found one candle on my table. I suppose that former employee left it for me.
Hmm, do you think the same thing as I do ?6 -
So a while back I decided to overhaul my entire code base and rewrite everything in one application... yesterday I thought this was bad so have moved back to separate applications, just this time as microservices! Does anyone else do this without ever releasing the initial thing you set out to do?
-
I've dreamt of building my own home automation system ever since we moved into this place. By the time I'll get around to it, I guess the home automation system I want is common shelfware.

Successfully moved out of my current team and got assigned in Business Analyst track of my organization. Now that I’ve joined the dark side, should I stop using DevRant? Or is it a fairly technical role as well?6
-
I just worked on a project for 4.5 weeks and delivered my code to a stream. Just after the delivery, I get a mail from my program manager saying they've moved to a different stream.
Now I need to manually merge my 4.5 weeks of code into the new stream.
Ahh. The pain!2 -

Tragedy of the commons.... Americans and Europe enjoy WW3 and nuclear exchanges. Brought to you by weak men. Reduce some population ;)
I've moved far away to be bothered now. xD10 -
I'm trying out Linux, first installed Debian, then moved to Ubuntu.
Figured that I'd rather use a vm as my dev machine than mess with my main computer.
Quite nice. Though VirtualBox sometimes messes up.
Anyone have any suggestions for me?6 -
Just moved from laravel/PHP to JS.

Have any of you moved from Web application development to more deep and complex stuff? I mean without finding it boring. I just moved to data and analytics at my job. And in a few months we will be getting into AI and machine learning. I just don't know if I'm going to find it boring or not. I really enjoy and still love web development.1

The Node and its magic tricks never cease to surprise me.
I created several new components and tried to compile them for verification. Then this big fat error popped up.
I commented out all the newly created code (didn't remove any files, just did ^A^/). Recompiled. This big fat error again.
Undid modifications I made to the files that existed there before. Recompiled. This big fat error again.
Moved the newly created files outside of the project scope (mv app/<...>/featureX/ ../bkup/). Recompiled. SUCCESS.
Moved all of those files back (mv ../bkup/featureX app/<...>/). Recompiled. SUCCESS.
wtf...2 -
"You can tear a poem apart to see what makes it tick… You’re back with the mystery of having been moved by words. The best craftsmanship always leaves holes and gaps… so that something that is not in the poem can creep, crawl, flash or thunder in." - Dylan Thomas

Was moved from frontend to backend. I am an absolute noob in java, code has no documentation, no formal training, code has cross repository dependencies and I have been assigned with a case and was asked to debug, felt like a pathetic piece of shit. One of those depressing days, but the good thing is we were moved here as an entire team and apparently everyone feels the same way 😂 which makes me feel better.
These are one of those short phase of "0 productivity" days, I wish Java god help me and let me write code with my usual speed, untill then I am going to feel miserable and bad about myself. -
Are there any good uml connector libraries to connect svg components using svg paths. The connections should sustain even if the svg components are moved/dragged around.

I moved to a foreign country, is it practical to try to freelance remotely when I've acquired the skills to build websites? I don't think I'd be ready soon, but I'm just curious of others opinions. (I've got a pretty good grasp at HTML, CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript.)

Call out to all web developers out there... what IDEs is everyone using?
I started with notepad++ a few years ago then moved onto atom... I’ve tried a few others but never really got attached to them. Is there any other, anyone thinks is better than atom?10 -
So, if anyone remembers my previous rants (or otherwise), the app I'm working on is finally going to release. We release in about a week and a half, despite having at minimum 10 days work + testing (not including all testing of aws migration that we still haven't fully completed) to even have an MVP.
This is all because the clients have been pushing a release date (16th July) in marketing. Oh, and the icing on the cake? Our boss agreed for a submission to app stores (back-end pending) on Friday (yes, in like 3 days) instead of the agreed next Wednesday date.
Side note: the client is coming over to our office for Thursday and Friday. Why? We are unsure. -
working from home is great, right up until the point its a unfurnished apartment you've just moved in. At least I can use my gigabit internet connection from the floor.2
