At work today, a colleague was talking to a customer. Only maccer in the building (every other Linux (support) engineer uses Linux).
CW: ahhh we understand eachother, Mac is the way to go!
*Gets nasty looks from about all Linux engineers*
CW: I'm going to retract that since I want to make it to the end of this day alive 😅
*Everyone laughing*3 -
trying to teach my little sister(13) her first programming language. decided to go the microsoft way and start with C#.
the moment she finished her first
hello world made me so proud of her :)11 -
Coworker: "Hey I have the final logo for your software"
Me: "Awesome, only a few bugfixes after my holiday and we are good to go on production. 2 more hours to go until I am free for a week."
Coworker: "After your holiday? Boss said it goes on production tomorrow!"
Me: "You are kidding me, aren't you? There is no way I can do all the work today and push to production!"
Coworker: "Boss promised the client..."
How about boss can go an f himself? He knows I have some other project to finish today and that I am leaving. This is in our team cal for over a month now! Ahhh. My coworker now has to deal with it-.-2 -
Story time!
My exboyfriend used to code in php 5. It’s his favourite programming language, and I hardly teached him how to code in Python.
One day, I said to him: Hey schatz, let’s go to the sex shop ...
He: Oh yeah 😏
Me: ... and buy an elephant thong 😁
He: What?!
Me: Yes, a blue elephant thong for Php
Me laughed
Me: So?
He: No way!
Me: Please!!!!!
He: Ok. I’m working at a cultural events web page. When I got my first client, we’ll go to the sex shop and buy the “php thong”.
Well... I broke up with him before we could go to the sex shop 💔😂😭( for another reasons, not for the php thong, obviously)
Do you have any funny story like this?28 -
friend: so how are we gonna do this project together? download, edit then upload to google drive again. thats the fastest way.
me: how about git?
friend: what?
me: ill just create a repository and create branches before we merge it with master. no need to go through that process of downloading and uploading multiple times
friend: not sure... what... that.. is.....
me: oh we have a looooong way to go, ill guess ill have to teach u git right from the beginning12 -
1.Run into issue
2.Go to Stack Overflow

The sooner you start coding, the longer it will take.
This was meant as a way to tell us all the slow down and plan first. If you go right into coding things before the structure is thought out you will end up with garbage code.4 -
I generally like to separate changes into as many commits as is reasonable. That way I can go back and see how, why, when and what was changed, along with meaningful commit messages.
But sometimes...
Git add *
Git commit -m "changed lots of stuff"
God I hate myself.3 -
I just found out that there is a method in Java/Android called "Log.wtf()" which stands for...
... What a Terrible Failure!
Don't believe me? See for yourselves! (way to go, guys!)9 -
Agreed with a guy on a price for a second hand laptop-tablet. Finally on my way (NS, go drown in an ocean of infected cum) but I'd be very late.
Guy offers to come to the station (saving me more than an hour of travel time)!
This one SHOULD be Linux compatible 😅11 -
My co-worker convinced me to post my setup up since this is what I'm using when I work from home, or go on a sprint. I'm way more productive here than the office! Maybe they shpuld just let me work from home indefinitely 😎
I like to think of this as my happy place :)8 -
I thought this launch (security/privacy blog) would go smooth:
- analytics fell, except for one thing, apart for yet unknown reasons
- MySQL came with a very weird error which took me like half an hour of research before I hacked my way past it.
- the firewall started to fuck around for no reason, works now though.
Nginx worked without issues though, as well as NetData 😅
Yeah, didn't go as planned :P10 -
After interviewing 3 candidates for software today, I have officially decided its time to seriously pursue creating a YouTube channel with a complete set of series to learn programming MY WAY... not the short cut way... this will go all the way to beginning and start the person up with a solid foundation to build on... I’m going to pour my knowledge into these series.
The education system has failed too many in the real world... to many people I have interviewed they think they know have a degree but are clueless.. this is unacceptable and a waste... AND way too often I see online “learn programming in 30 days or learn programming in a day”... fuck off it’s all lies .. all wrong.. wrong methods wrong philosophy and I’m done with it...
I’m set on doing it this time, I’ve put it off too long, and longer I put it off the more I see shitty interviews! Time to fix it68 -
Solving a problem with a different, simpler solution than the one the professor intended and having to go back and recode it the way he wanted6
-
My biggest hurdle was finding a way to go from my old 1400*900 screens to 1080p
Needles to say i finally was able to upgrade after years14 -
VP: We're going to have HR join the call.
Me: Okay. *Shrug*
(HR Joins)
VP: I'm afraid we're going to have to let you go. I'll need you to return your laptop.
Me: Okay. *Shrug*
VP: ...
HR: ...
HR: Do you want to know why we're letting you go?
Me: Nah. Bye.
After five years of working in terrible conditions for terrible to mediocre people, I accepted losing my job without worry. In a way, I was thankful.
I wanted to quit so many times.
I'm much happier these days.6 -
Way to fucking go, Austria wants to push a law that forces online platforms (if possible around the globe) with more than 100k users to provide an accurate way to identify them.
"Name, surname and adress"
I just listened to an interview with a guy who is for that proposal. He said the platforms can just take the data directly from mobile providers, using the phone number. Also, even buying a prepaid sim-cards will require you to provide an identity card.
Way to fucking go! They say it's rather unlikely that this proposal will get approved by the EU, but given the shit they just pulled on us, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest id these fuckers just go with it.
Where is our precious privacy going? Some old pedophiles are taking it away from us, into their sex dungeons I suppose...
Unfortunatelly this is a rather new proposal, so I can't find an english article covering this story attack

Confuzzled if I should go the low level way and learn more about software architecture and foundation or go the artificial intelligence machine learning way because I want to get out of this infinite loop of only developing apps!4
-
I just finished setting up an instance of searx.me for the public to use.
You are free to use it at https://search.privacy-cloud.me
I can't prove it but I've disabled logging with searx and ip logging in the nginx access logs (catching ddos's another way). If you don't find that enough proof then I suggest you don't use it :)
Let's go to sleep now.13 -
Python: I hate the way it uses True/False over true/false
Java: Static. Just fuck static. oh and System.out.println(), why the fuck did they make the basic print function so long to write.
C#: I despise the way the curly braces get automatically put under the function declaration rather than beside it since it's a language style thing.
C: the inability to declare vars in altho declaration of a forloop. Although I think C11 let's you do this.
Javascript: Fucking prototypes.
Coldfusion: it runs like an elephant. Slow and heavy.
Go: The way the compiler won't let you have unused variables/imports. Pain in the ass for testing.17 -
I am so fucking sleepy. Haven't slept since the last 20 hours.
Trying to change my habit of sleeping late. Have tried to fix it but it always finds a way to go back to late night.34 -
My study's logic every fucking time: (I'm a senior by the way)
Junior: Sir, could you help me out for a minute?
Teacher: I'm busy right now, please fill out the support request form and go ask one of the seniors (yeah, not even kidding)
Junior: Alright, hey dude, could you help me out maybe?
Me: yeah of course, just get your laptop and go sit here next to me!
Other Teacher: Hey you, leave the seniors alone, they've got their own work!2 -
I always find it more productive to have at least two ongoing projects at once.
That way, if I get stuck on a bug/frustrated with the first project, I focus on the second and more often than not, when I go back to the first project I realize that I had made a dumb mistake and keep going.2 -
Our University professors taught us very little. If one wanted to actually learn something they had to go out of their way to learn it. I was one of the few who actually did that and as a result I ended up being the "top coder" in class.
This meant that I developed an ego.
Then came internship. It was two months of systematic breaking me down and building me up again, forcing me to stop thinking of a solution that just works and actually think of a good design to a solution.
I know I still have a long way to go but I know those helped me grow as a developer. -
Final exams are next week and I'm behind on studying...
If I uninstall devRant, I'll install it back. If I block it using clearlock, I'll find a way to bypass it.
I remember once I accidentally found a way to use devRant on multi window view. I might figure out how to do it again.
So... If you see me on devRant yell at me to get off. I'll be bitter at first, but appreciate it later :)
Oh, and feel free to be as mean as you want. The meaner you are, the less likely I'll go back on.22 -
Holy shit I never realised how frustrating it is to code for a client the way they want it... I mean I just want to go back to coding for fun4

One day at a meeting I proposed a solution and explained it to everyone and everyone agreed to it. And then comes in this motherfucking Mr. shithole who starts talking about a piece of shit approach which had apparent drawbacks and everyone could see it but no one mentions. Why, becuase that bigger asshole is the boss of these smaller assholes. When I mention the drawbacks, all I get in return is, you are right but we think you should go this way. No fucking explanation why should I or any son of bitch should go that way. And every single one of those fuckers in the meeting suddenly became ok with his approach without any question or doubt. I mean WTF! What kind of developer you are if cant fucking express your views.10

When you're ready to go to bed and you close your eyes... then you instantly figure out the simplest way to remove a nasty bug.... that person is me and now I cant sleep... xD3

Quick question.
The domain name I wanted was taken, and the person who bought it refused my offer.
So, I'm going to change it up a bit. Which one should I go for?

"Condor, your new Samsung Galaxy S8+ doesn't have the latest Google apps"
You know what Google? I don't give a shit about your latest apps. Often times I go out of my way to root the device and remove your mandatory bloatware, that YOU fucking Google enforce OEM's to preinstall. Fortunately BlueStacks doesn't have them preinstalled, which saves me the pain of uninstalling them. Given that, you've got quite the balls to spam me with this shit Google.
By the way, another thing.. this preinstall shit is linked to the EU antitrust rulings, isn't it? And spam is linked to GDPR, and honestly I don't recall ever opting in to this kind of wanketeering mail. In fact, I usually go out of my way to opt out of this kind of corporate wankery. Time for another huge fine perhaps?15 -
When you've got a job you're happy with.
That's it in my book. Studied it and persuaded someone to hire you to do it? Enjoy that job, and it pays the way? Good work. Of course you'll likely go further than that in time, which is great - but there's no great magical point to "strive to" so to speak.6 -
Why the fuck do people go to so much trouble to justify what they did instead of just admitting they were wrong?
The way I handle this type of people is to first ask a straightforward like "X implies Y, right?" If they answer "yes" I say "then this here isn't right" and watch them go around the world to find a justification for it not being wrong.6 -
boss: wish there was a way to go back to older versions..
me: there is, it's called git, I can show you how to use it!
boss: nah we will just keep using the sync on Dreamweaver
me:....the fuck?!2 -

How I felt when discovering object oriented programming. I still have a long way to go but I'm starting to get it.2
-
Best: Created my own company and have had 8 clients in 2017. Devrant has allowed me to find a community of fellow geeks. I've used github way more in 2017 than any past year.
Worst: Have had at least 2 ex-clients but I've lived and learned from them. I go on Devrant way more than I should. -
my way of getting unstuck is going to toilet, thats why I drink soo much liquid on work, kuz then I know that when in need, I can go "TO THE THINKING ROOM"
-
I came to notice something funny.
In many languages, programmers will go out of their way to use to newest, most shiny features, even if there isn't any need to.
Only in C, programmers will go out of their way to avoid new features and make their code compatible even with the oldest ANSI standards.4 -
Why the fuck does Apple hate developers so much? I just want to test and play around a bit. Why do I have to own a fucking Mac? Why do I need to pay 99$ a year just to install a debug build on my own device?! It's literally impossible to get into ios development without being rich or having some kind of plan for revenue...
Testing my app on Android:
Install Android studio -> plug in phone -> run code in Android Studio or simply install the resulting apk on your phone.
Trying to test my app on my iPad:
Google how to build app for iPad -> reading that you have to own a Mac to run xcode when you want to build Code for iOS -> searching for a workaround -> find a way to build my app online -> setting the tool and building it -> Trying out 5 different tools to sideload the app, no one works -> finding out that you need a developer account to sign the app for testing purposes on MY OWN DEVICE. I really would appreciate it if I would be able to install personal stuff for testing and LEARNING without being forced into insolvency. Why are people putting up with this kind of bullshit?18 -
So my co-worker refuses to use Interface in Go because he dislikes php and interface is "the php way to do things". Anyone with experience dealing with this kind of ignorance?14

Ffs, I just want to get myself a goddamn domain, why is every registrar so shitty? Each of them has a major downside that makes me go away from their site! Bad payment options, way too high prices for a domain after a year, ...18

You know a good way to handle all of the issues with W10 force updating your system? Do it yourself FFS!
You know there are updates. Windows has been telling you ...
Pick a damn time, start the update and go get a coffee, lunch, take a dump or go home for the day.
It's *never* going to be the right time if you don't choose it. It will always be an inconvenience or you'll be "in the middle of something important" and then you'll get all pissy about it.
Yeesh ...10 -
Just started as a remote dev and I found that it's IMPOSSIBLE to work from home.
Get annoyed from something not compiling/errors? Go play some video games two feet away. Nothing going your way? Go lie down on the bed behind you.
But for some reason I can work from home way better at night.
Any other tips for working remotely?9 -
Dashing through the snow
Get the fuck out of my way
You are all so slow
and fat, what do you weigh?
HA HA !!
I'll end your caroling
but It won't be a silent night
I've come to terrorize your town
and watch you die tonight
Jingle Bells
Go to hell
I've hijacked Santa's sleigh
Oh what fun it is to ride over bodies every day
HEY !!
Jingle Bells
Go to hell
Bodies will decay
after you're all crushed beneath my motherfucking sleigh
HEY !!

How do you usually learn a new language?
My way is to start a project, then figure it out as I go.
I find that books and tutorials are usually better reserved for learning concepts or frameworks.2 -

Putting pieces of cardboard under the bed until it prints okay is the way to go -
Decided to give WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) a chance.........it was a BAD idea.
I go to the directory of my Node project and do "yarn" to install the packages.
Bash freezes while Yarn is linking dependencies. At this point I don't even know if it's still doing its job in the background or not, so I try to Ctrl+C.
Ctrl+C doesn't work either, I have to force-close the console.
When I try to open bash again, it doesn't even open. The only way to solve this is to re-login to Windows.
I appreciate Microsoft's intent in making their OS a better home for developers, but they still have a long way to go.
P.S.: No, this isn't a Yarn issue, everything works perfectly in both Linux and Windows :)7 -
Roblox has come a long way. Been working on what started as a small project and now its been about 2 years and its finally coming together! As roblox still has ways to go to make it easier on developers. I cant wait to move to unreal engine and make somthing great!24

When you go at your first IT internship and you realize that a SQL database could be way bigger that anything you could had imagined.
Then I showed the schema to one of my database engineer friend and he laughed at me. :( -
Anyone else hates those tutorials that go in a direction for pages and pages, then suddenly they tell you that while that works, it's inefficient and insecure. THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU NOT TALK ABOUT THE PROPER WAY??? You don't teach people to drive a car blindfolded.3
-
I'm a perfectionist and like things done the right way, but had to learn to let go and remind myself it's the clients site and their choice. No amount of logic and reasoning is going to stop a hellbent client from wanting the dumb things they want, even when it's bad for design, performance, usability and/or SEO.1
-
FFS, just because they do it that way on a competitor website doesn't mean it is either good, right or the best way to do it. My next door neighbours car number plate is held on with gaffa tape, im not about to copy that and suggest everyone should do it. Dim fucking irrational, know it all clients. GO FUCK YOURSELVES!! From my research i could probably run your business better than you anyway, your whole fucking outlook is fundamentally flawed. Cunts!1

Is it only me or does Unity really force people to write ugly code?
Sometimes I think to my self : " just go and write your god damn own fuckin engine"
But then I sit back and realize that I'd never finish a game that way.

Don't you just love it when a customer reports a bug in their live system and it's really urgent to correct it; then you go out of your way to fix it ASAP and deploy it to the staging system for them to verify. Three weeks later the customer has still not tested the bugfix...1

I like to go do a bit of manual labor to remind me I'm not trying to end up with a dead end job making just a hair above minimum wage.
Good motivation for me to try harder in school so I'll actually learn things and not to cheatmy way through like a lot of people I know.2 -
Ask yourself as you plan the meeting:
1. Is an email a better solution to this?
If the answer is yes, plz just send the fucking email. Else, try and find a way to make it an email instead. If all else fails then yeah go ahead and have your stupid meeting. -
Very high number of quality rants lately. Trending up fast in my opinion. Even today - Saturday which used to be a lighter day.

Telstra and Vodafone Australia have released unlimited data plans for mobile.
With a base of40GB for $69/month and 40GB for $60/ month respectively.
When you go over the limit, it then throttles you to 1.5Mbps max.
It's a start, better than charging you heaps for going over, but they still have a way to go...6 -

So I let myself go by all of this talk about giving more freedom and autonomy to your team. "Don't micro-manage them", they said. "Trust them," they said. And that's the way I wish to be treated. That's how I personally work best.
Alas, this only works only when they're truly good at what they're doing. Sometimes I feel like we'd go faster if I did everything myself. These baby devs must be taken by the hand every damn step of the way.5 -
When there is a fire alarm where I work, someone has to go print out the door access logs so we have a list of who is (theoretically) on site and make sure no one is still inside. The printer is half way across the building. And breaks down at least once a day.
We are all going to die.5 -
I really just came across this on a legit apartment rental website.
I can see no possible way for this to go wrong.
No possible way that anyone could exploit this... 🙃20 -
Small things count*
You know how in Android Studio, if you put a string directly into a View's text, it warns you to use resources' strings?
Well if you put there "Hello World", it gives you no warning...
I don't know why, but it made me smile. (Way to go, JetBrains!)
*Don't thing of anything stupid -
I see loads of rants complaining about getting asked for tech help. And then I see Linux getting recommended as an OS.
Me? I'm telling everyone to use ChromeOS so they leave me the fuck alone.
In the future, I'll tell everyone they are too fucking stupid to own a computer and phone is the way to go.

1. Always have a backup
2. Don't be afraid to fail
Failing is one of the best ways to get better at our craft. Fear is a healthy response to a challenge, but don't let it control you. Go for it. Things will break and that's okay because you have a backup or a way to undo the change. Learn from the mistake and perfect your craft. -
Starting a new project:
1.Think of a new/exciting idea
2.Start imagining and planning in my head
3.Start working on my idea
4.Give up mid-way
5. Get depressed
6. Get back at it way behind schedule and still not complete it
7. Go back to step 1 except that's basically how I start something new and not just a project :)4 -
As much as I love to complain about my job, I have to say I have such a huge amount of respect for my peers who go out of their way to help me and other engineers out. I feel like they deserve so much more praise because when they help others out, everyone succeeds.1

Update to: https://devrant.com/rants/1573298/
So I just had the interview. It wasn't too bad, but I caught myself stuttering and saying "uhh" way too frequently. I also kind of stumped my toe on a question about explaining a computer virus to someone.
Hopefully it'll go well in the end.4 -

I aliased the go package manager dep to derp
I do this because I consider myself a grade A derper.
I derp hard when I write in go, not because of not getting the language,on the contrary....I feel quite profficient in it which gives me the ability to derp whilst cosing.
Go is amazing. Such a boring language in the best way possible in terms of syntax but so fun in productivity.

Do you know what a meat proxy is? It's when you work as a consultant for a company, and the company doesn't give you credentials to deploy, debug, or interact in any way with your code. You then have to work through the sysadmin, while telling him how to go through every single step, every git pull, every line of code to edit. Kill me10

Management: Our internal app must be 100% rigid so that we users follow predefined process flows exactly so no mistakes are made while also being 100% flexible so that users are free to go about their business in whatever way they feel is appropriate for their own unique needs. These are the requirements!

Never gave much consideration to new year's resolutions, but here we go:
- Make my life less shitty
- Find a way out of my depression
- Get back to my old rythm
- Be in control of my own mind and my body again5 -
Who can come up with the best DevOps Power Ballad? I'll start off:
Phil Collins - Something happened on the way to production.

Whenever I'm extra proud of my coding skills, I go to YouTube and watch devs build Pacman, Donkey Kong etc from just plain Javascript or build portraits from just CSS.

Working along in a codebase for a few weeks. Then finding out there is a better more performant way to do something. Having to go back and tweak everything to use that feature you should have been using in the first place.
Thankfully, this has taught me to be more modular in the code.2 -
Had this life not turned out the way it is. Had you not been a dev, what would you imagine you would have been?
I'll go first.. i would probably have been a librarian or a security guard. Someone with lot of time at hand to read.16 -
Just had an argument with someone who thinks (micro)python is the way to go for embedded projects. Cause a lot of engineers are terrible at using C/C++. And their argumets for optimisation and granular controll over what the processor does is not necessary.
Its utterly wrong to push technologies into areas for which they werent originally designed for. We've seen it alot with websites lately and I dont like that embedded is heading the same way!18 -
Judo.
I might sound like one of those wierdos that are overly into Japan, Martial Arts and such, but I really enjoy Judo.
It is a sport where you have to FEEL the contact with your opponent.
Practising Judo made my day-to-day stress go away in just about 20m and also kept me in good shape, made me meet a lot of people/friends, lead me to live in a certain way and interact with people in a certain way (a good way, actually).
It also taught me which parts of the body are the most dangerous/fragile and cause the most pain.6 -
Focus of mastering one language, don't jump around to every web langue out there.
Also don't follow the programming language band wagon. Focus and master the basics first HTML, CSS, Jquery. These aren't going anywhere and a SOLID understanding of JavaScript will go WAY further then you think4 -

My first dev job was making and maintaining a shop on a Windows XP and xampp. We tried it like a week and i secretly changed everything to go to 000webhost. Never designed a website before. Decided to go against my team's advice and use React. Neck deep in my own shit and nobody can help me because they don't know React. Should've just done it the boring way. Fucking pray for me people. It's due next Tuesday.... 😭2

When people use one character variable names in their code I'm just like:
How do you guys live like this... 😰1 -
So, let me preface this by saying I come from a backend (mostly c#) background.
The way React handles objects changing in state is horrendous. And if you decide to try using hooks, God help you.
I honestly don't know if it's Blazor or something else that will kill js, but something absolutely needs to. It is a dumb, terrible language. It has to go.
All that said, of course I'll go back to work on it tomorrow.
Sorry, js/react guys/gals. Just venting. I'm sure once I 'get it', it will make sense.7 -
Fucking government shifting day light saving time by two weeks making me rely on my phone time zone auto-update and wake up one fucking hour earlier!
Way to go Monday...4 -
Took the day and rebuilt my home network with no major issues along the way.
Migrated to a new NAS and gave a Raspberry Pi a new life as a PiHole + DHCP.
Rant: Why can't things always go this smoothly on my projects? 😎2 -
"We are the great decision makers. We have come to a final answer. We have decided that you must implement this feature using the one way everybody agreed was the worst. The great decision makers will now go slumber for 200 years to leave this decision in your hands. Use our words wisely, or you will not have success in your career."

I was wondering !
As a computer geek I would like to know everything from mathematics to programming , robotics and machine learning but as I go , new technologies appear and it's
just like an endless while loop!
I don't mean I wanna stop learning new things but just looking for a more effitient way for doing this!
Any idea about this?1 -
Right,i consider myself a pretty damn good dev... I can back up everything I say to prove that I'm right on not lying to clients
But I see all these devs who do lie... Who withold data from clients cause it's not great.
And I go to clients and prove that they are lying not doing it right.
But I know saying to them... Oi your current devs are shit fire them ... Isn't a good way to get them as a client
Me and my company are open and honest ... we go all out on all of our projects. I work nonstop. It is seriously baffling the kind of developers are out there and how bad they can be I'm... Seriously just.... Urgh 😖
How should I go about talking to clients without going ... Fire them quick or saying that in a ... More humble respectful way...
I need more clients ... To survive and I don't mind coming across as a dick as long as they understand what's going on and that they are people ripped off by these asshole devs5 -
With work from home being way more productive why the fuck would any software development company go back to the office? Rent, workstations, and electricity are expensive! Why spend that money when it’s not essential to your business.6
-
These days when I go out with friends for gatherings, it feels really awkward to talk with people. Most times I don't fit in the crowd at all. I feel at home, with my laptop doing something, even procrastinating seems worthwhile when compared to this.
Does anyone feel the same way? Or, it's just a very personal thing?7 -
An old friend just texted me and asked me to hack Facebook. Again.
FUCK OFF. I'm not a fucking work-horse, I'm not a slave, and I'm not fucking with something as meaningless and stupid as FB.
Go hack your way into his neck with an axe if you want to, I'll even help, but fuck messing with their social life. Go for the disease, not the symptoms.4 -
Fucking hell it pisses me off when you go to so much trouble to streamline processes, set up systems that improve workflow and solve issues, find better solutions and show how they make life easier... and people are like "yeah nah let's just do things the same old shitty way we've always done things".
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻5 -
In order for you to become well-versed at something you cannot study it at a distance.
In addition, most of the time the best way to learn something is to start trying to do stuff. If you wanna learn a language, start trying to program in it. Just go for it.4 -
We have a list of 1.5k different dependencies for various projects. And they wanted to check if each of those deps has been approved by the management.
They have no way to automate this. (I believe there is always a way to automate any fucking thing but my pm says there is no way)
And no employee in the company was keen to do this task so they decided to give it to interns.
Now I am sitting on my table, copying each and every dep, pasting in the browser (on their portal ) and noting down if it's approved. If it's not, I have to note the latest version that had been approved.
I have been doing this from morning. 400 done. 1000 to go.

A friend of mine stayed over and had to leave early. Idiotic as I am I set the alarm an hour earlier than necessary. Now that he's left there's no way I can go back to sleep again, so I've had plenty of time to track translations in p5.js, while my GF's sleeping. Aaah, aren't weekends wonderful?2
-
I just spent 4 hours troubleshooting 2 pcs, neither of them working yet. I'm way too tired, and I'm not even sure what I'm saying is correct English but I don't care. Man, fuck my life. I just wanna go to bed, but my brain doesn't think that's a good idea1

Have you guys seen the cool write up fossBytes did on the new devRant 'Most Annoying Programming List'. Many news sources picked up the story. Way to go devRant!
http://fossbytes.com/devrant-releas...2 -
Ah yes i also love not having a meeting before our first sprint because 'there is nothing to talk about yet'. I see absolutely no way this could ever go wrong.1

Well after a month with Brave web browser I'm forced to go back to Firefox. It's way unstable, too many bugs and glitches and lacks some add-ons1
-
It's an irony in my case. Python is so simple and fast to implement that I end up doing all my projects ( web dev, ML, crawlers, etc.) But still I can't use Python for solving competitive programming. Python seems unknown if I don't have access to google. Way to go to learn Python. Though able to think Pythonic nowadays.. ;p3
-
I fucking HATE ORMs. Fuck this bullshit, they always have some use case that is stupidly difficult or obscure that no one knows how to deal with because the creators didn't think of the one thing I want to fucking do.
Screw this bullshit, homebrew SQL is ALWAYS the way to go; I've never encountered an ORM that didn't turn in to a troubleshooting, dialect-learning timesink.5 -
I spend all morning on trying to solve an Algo problem for upcoming interview practice (Euler #3) that comes down to implementing IsPrime.
I remember reading once how Sieve of Eratosthenes
Isa the right way to go do when I first started I wanted to use that.
Then I couldn't think of the right code though so I went with Brute Force (for all numbers upto X see X is divisible by it)
It actually worked but I wanted to just try the "right way".
It's way slower and actually ended up with the wrong answer...
But at this point I don't give a **** anymore.
I guess lesson learned... Use Brute Force first... Then optimise for a problem more elegant solution.10 -
I would love to go Linux, but I'm using Visual Studio 😔 Is there way to run VS with Wine without Virtual Machine?11

i swear to GOD i am so fucking productive, happy, full of life, thankful to live, WAY MORE PRODUCTIVE, WAY MORE NORMAL, WAY MORE PHYSICALLY BEAUTIFUL, WAY MORE MENTALLY STABLE, i get WAY MORE SHIT DONE, i appreciate people, i help people, i ACTUALLY BECOME SUCCESSFUL, i am actually WILLING TO LEARN ADVANCED SHIT THAT ARE BEYOND MY UNDERSTANDING *BECAUSE* IT IS SOMETHING I ENJOY TO FUCKIN DO, WAY MORE FUCKIN POSITIVE, WAY MORE FUCKIN SOCIAL, all of this --- when i do NOT fucking study or go to the fucking cuckold college.....5

unreal engine is soooo much fun! You set a reference pose for vr motion controllers and expect them to have positions relative to it, and also expect them to be right in front of you. Well, no, they go completly wonkers and get beautiful positon values of 23874 2387236 2032938 which is way out of the world. IN WHAT FKING UNIVERSE DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENCE?!
Just because I parented them to a a scene object way within my character?! WHAT THE FK I followed the nice tutorials. What is this BS and why is it so fked up!!!4 -
It's Friday, I just want to go home and work on my side project.
At the end of the day some co-workers ask me to join for a beer. It's too hard to resist, it's just one beer. Just one beer? Who am I lying to? Its probably going to end the same way as last friday and the friday before that.
This is why I don't have time to work on my side projects.
I don't look forward to the headache tomorrow.
It's too hard to say no.
Does anyone of you feel the same way?3 -
Honestly, nothing.
I’ve had some bad experiences in my career so far, but I wouldn’t go back and change any of it.
I believe I am the engineer I am now because of all the experiences I have had.
Embrace your bad experiences and awful projects, because you gain a greater appreciation for the right way to build things when you’ve witnessed the wrong way first hand.3 -
Worst experience with a manager was with this project manager at my first job.
One day the other developers and I were staying back a little late to try to make some progress. The manager offered to go out to get food for us. It must have been two hours later when we realized he was not back. We were ready to go home and starting to get hungry. We called him and he said he got caught up but was on his way back and would be there soon. It was more than an hour later when he arrived with the food. I quit that job shortly after. -
This is first month Kotlin has entered Tiobe top 50 languages (at position 41) ❤️surpassing Clojure, Rust and others.
Way to go Kotlin.1 -

I found a way to become rich with low effort!
I'll become a python developer.
I hope some fucker finds out that C is durable because it doesn't have to be rewritten all the time and we all go C. The bad apples will fall down soon enough with learning a programming language that actually requires some attention span.34 -
Can't believe that the debate between using space vs tab is still going on. Tab is the way to go people.12

Was late the first day (nobody told me when to be there). Was sick as a dog. Had to pull my car over on the way there to puke. Sat through a few hours of orientation hoping I could just go the next 5 minutes without puking. Puked between orientation and actually getting to my office location. Not a fun day.
Never told anyone I was sick.1 -
I hate how React is used almost everywhere nowadays. Especially when single-page applications are used for purposes that don't actually benefit from them.
Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned, but I want websites to work even with client-side JS disabled. At least sites like Amazon don't rely on it, and work just fine. Progressive enhancement is the way to go.4 -
When you're done with your side of a project but you're waiting on other people.... Then you're the one that still gets bitched at by Mr. CEO man. Piss off, I've done my part. No I can't just upload it the way it is, no I won't upload it the way it is. Go tell the other spit fucks to get me their shit so I can finish the project.1

Stepping through the source code of a no-code-graphical-programming-tool (or however you call that) to understand why my stuff isn't doing its thing or at least see what it wants from me.
Very intuitive1 -
Developing the front end and THEN developing the back end is a horrible idea, right guys? I've been placed on my first big project with my employer and this is the way the client is deciding to do it (my employer is not making the backend). I just need to know that I'm not crazy and that this is usually never the way people go about software development. Right guys? Please send help.5

Every. Single. Time. I've tried to learn and implement proper Unit/Instrumentation testing, the main Android devs decide to go for something else or introduce some feature or Gradle plugin that breaks every tutorial out there. I find it way easier to just test everything manually than learning the new yearly trend. Am I the only one?1

Bugreport @dfox or @trogus
On the Android app, comment a rant and remove it (modify -> delete). After that the last comment before your's will go all the way to the bottom, instead of having a "spacer" for the social buttons.
Can anyone confirm it?10 -
Just started working as a junior developer, since we new junior developers started the hot chocolate is always unavailable in our building so you have to go to a different building to get it, is it some kind of way to get us to switch to coffee?11
-
Err. I'm working on something this is a stupid question. But is there a way to save data and stuff without having to go into back end?
If not or if there is. What should I look into/learn to get it done without having to go too deep6 -
From yesterday I started using the proper typing way (Qwerty) instead of using only two index fingers .
Guess what My WPM dropped from 47 to 8(average).
I'm doing it Just to get better at vim and increase my programming efficiency.
I feel a long way to go to fix my bad typing habits.10 -
So i was commenting on a rant by some user where we had this conversation about IDEs and editors...
Point: Intellij has an option to set a background to the whole ide which gives coding a unique experience instead of the pale dull solid color background.
Go to Settings > Appearance > Background image is in the main appearance tab click and set the image, position, transparency ... And voila u have a background image on your editor.
Alternative way just go to settings and search for background image12 -
client argues that a responsive site is the way to go for a large e-commerce site despite user feedback and user testing proving otherwise..

I've probably spent more time on refactoring than on actual coding with this personal project. The problem is, ideas come to me while developing, and that means I have to go back and change things every time. Is that normal or is there a better way?3
-
So my company is preparing to do a deployment now... It's Friday 4pm...
And it's just yesterday that the build system was upgraded to a way newer version...
Luckily I'm not responsible of things go sideways 😅2 -
Get to work, reboot your machine to try to fix VS throwing way too many exceptions...get locked out of the computer cause keyboard stoped being recognized...Go to IT...now the mouse is not being recognized either...Well, this morning is just going downhill...

This shitty indian development companies should fucking go to hell. So there is a client who approaches me so that I can add new integrations to their web store/platform but the guys who development it wouldn't let me access the backend in any way!!!
Guess I am so mad that I can't even rant well.
But fuck you cheap indian development companies!!!!!!7 -
Join a new project & client site
Been a week and still no access, so no work

Told to go back to internal office and talk with coworkers tomorrow
Get a flat tire on the way in, $200

Call boss, no answer
What is my life, I just wanna to development -
my neighbor decided to breakdown all walls in their apartment. Like, seriously, all of them, so I've gotta hear hardcore construction sounds from 8am till 5pm, everyday...
So now I'm waking up at 4pm and going to bed 7am. That way, since I can sleep thru a zombie apocalypse itself, I avoid that torture.
I'm not someone who holds grudges, but I am leaving a speaker blasting whitenoise during my sleep time. That way, I can make sure the motherfuckers go thru at least some of the discomforts I'm went before I managed to go nocturnal2 -
Man it is nice to be back on Arch after 3-4 years. That install is way easier than I remember too. From USB to pretty much set up and ready to go in about 30 minutes is pretty amazing.2

So maybe I don't know where I live. Or I was just so excited to get my stickers that I goofed and transposed my address. Either way, I finally got them and have many plans for where they go!

beginner: what is the best way to learn programming in one day?
Dev: take your laptop pack your bags and go to one of earths polls and do programming from sunrise to next sunrise. you will definitely learn programming.😎2 -
I've been working from home for 3 months yay!) but today was the nicest day off the year so far so decided to goto office.
Well seems everyone else thought that too and also the trains were delayed. i.e. I had to stand all the way...
No big deal except... apparently I am way out shape now...
was planning to go walk around NYC too like I do every Spring/Summer (~1-2 miles).... Looks like I'm gonna need some prep this time... 😞😓😭🤕😧2 -
What should I learn first, Python or Rust?
All I know currenrlly is JS, and I want to get away from the browsers. And I'm a Linux guy, so Python or Rust seem's like the way to go :-)9 -
Do I want to go into research or industry? I must only answer which is funnier "PhD Comics" or "CommitStrip."
This is the way to decide things.2 -
I started building a voxel engine with openGL and Clojure during December, so my goal is to make a game out of it. Long way to go but seems fun.1

from google to information gathering2 -
How fucking hard can it be to show a simple image. Guess which app has this feature.
Images are cropped to frame, but you can tap to fit the whole image to frame instead. No way to see the image on full screen. Pinch to zoom works, but it will immediately unzoom if you let go even one finger.4 -
Way to go Xcode, you make something as simple as a splash screen an insane headache of cOnStrAiNts
WTF is going on
fuck you -
"Hey team! I went to a 3 day conference to hear someone speak and now I have this grand idea to completely change the way we do development! OK let's not train anyone on anything either! And..... Go!"
.... I heard this today after we already changed everything a year ago. Nothing like middle managers who do yearly purchases of snake oil. -
No ranting here but
Started doing web with POCO in C++. Could not be as pleased as now. Syntax is cool, framework is cool, GNU Makefiles are cool, aclocal isn't, but... Go to hell automake. I am happy, helping a friend and enjoying what I feel as the chilliest programming language is becoming the way I do web. -
When you are at a crossroads, what helped you to decide?
I have two great job offers, and though my gut feeling is telling me to go one way due to tech stack and first communications, the other opportunity is (slightly) better paid and the company is much larger and nationwide active.3 -
When your co-worker is told to implement something, and insisted it is the wrong way to go:
It's how you train a puppy David. He poops, you rub his face in it, then toss him outside. I'm afraid you're the puppy. However .. It's not your poop 😳 -
When you impress your peers because you have grown in a year as a programmer. Still there is a long way to go but I feel very confident I can achieve my goals. Any tips for project management and how to grow soft skills. I lack in that area.3

So I was reassigned from Android to backend a month ago...

Saturday night and what do I do?
Go out like a normal person?

Nahhhh let's do a pwnie install and start snooping on neighbors!!! -
Hangouts has replaced its blob emoji in the web version and I want them back. Writing a userstyle should be the way to go, but I'd need a blob version of this image: https://ssl.gstatic.com/chat/emoji/...
Any idea how I could get an old version?2 -
Hello world? Why is everyone being so friendly to the stupid planet? It won't even go out of the way to say something back! Go talk to a real person, damn nerds.

One letter story:
This is going to be weird--do it and we'll see how far we can go without going completely insane.
Whitespaces is one single comment, so is symbols such as the period sign. Be creative--use ampersands and quick way of writing longer things.
The rest of the rules go the same as for my previous rant. I'll write the first comment, then we COMMENT THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF THIS GOD DAMN FUCKING RANT!17 -
Go devs - I'm surrounded by Python developers && non-devs, what's the best way you've found to explain Go? (Go being my first and preferred language)3

That moment when you need to add a functionality to your program (coded months ago), and go "Why does my head work this way...", after seeing the complex code that needs to be sorted & fit with the new function.

Thank you Matlab, for my daily dose of frustration.
Thank you Matlab, for deciding to surface-plot a 2D variable with the x axis = columns and y axis = rows, because of course that's the most intuitive way to go about it.
Because of course that's consistent with the standard way to refer to a variable's elements.
After all, everybody knows that Z(i, j) refers to the i-th column and j-th row of a matrix, right?
Thank you, Matlab, for depriving me of the little fuck I gave about getting something done today.
Now go die in a fire.6 -
This rant goes way back.
> Be a student with student placement program at a big non IT related company back in the college days

Worst experience: Learning how data is stored in segments in a middleware application called PMS on mainframe and how to manipulate that data.
Best Experience: Building a app that lets you pull down any set of segment data from mainframe and figuring out a way to automatically annotate the data so you could just hover over it and you know what the data is exactly. This way I didn't have to constantly refer back to a reference manual to see what a field name is in a segment, or having to go talk to a mainframe developer to go look at their code. Btw, did I mention I made it searchable by field name?? -
Hey devRant!
University student here. I’m trying to learn how to build scalable applications. I figured what better way to learn, than to ask this community!
So, some questions:
1. What is a good stack for scalability
2. Regarding microservices, when and where should you use node, .net, and go
3. I hear much talk about docker and kubernetes... how would you use these concerning microservices
Thanks!7 -
Is there an acceptable way to deal with API secrets in an Android app that can cure the anxiety that is slowly taking over me during the past few hours that I am researching about it? Thnx.
p.s. I am not sure how people that work in security can go on with their lives and not have suicidal tendencies10 -
How does everyone feel about Visual Studio 2017? I think it's better than 2015 but has a long way to go.
Thoughts?2 -
Do any of you have any good resources at hand on good ways of managing Docker deploys? I don't want to use something as overkill as Kubernetes. In the end I want to be able to spin up the application on a $5 DigitalOcean droplet if need be.
I need to figure out a good way of managing, deploying and rolling back a live application. Perhaps just using docker-compose is the way to go. Though I want your ideas.
Thanks8 -
Windows should ask you how computer literate you are upon its installation. That way, advanced users wouldn't need to see beginner level advice and would get easier access to 'complicated' stuff, without needing to go through countless permissions. Inspired by @coder67's post.2

why argue when you can just change it to your opinion and make the impression that no other opinion exists and then go find new people to groom so they get used to your way while being none the wiser and then eventually overwhelm the other side of the argument with numbers1

I do mobile. I've dealt with Android XML, windows XAML, iOS auto-layout.
Flutter is some new hot shit in mobile.
But for fucks sake, I bet they couldn't make more ugly UI creation way. I'm trying for a month already to go there and touch it with a stick at least.1 -
HP Switches are a clusterfuck of shit.
The command line interface seems to be designed in a way to ensure that HP support engineers will always be needed.
My supervisor and I figured it would be easier for our task to go and steal some Cisco switches from the other department to avoid having to deal with this giant pain in the ass -
Let's talk about one of the two hard things in programming - what's your preferred test naming convention and why? I'll have to create plenty of those now, while the project I'm working on is still small, and I don't know which way to go. It's Spring (Java), but I don't think it matters that much 🤷4

Got really happy that I could use the new Boolean work item templates fields in TFS 2017 after upgrading from 2015....Turned into bludgeoning my head against the keyboard when I realised Microsoft decided it was a great idea to not including any way of validating said Boolean field. Time to go back to using Yes/No drop downs, or resort to dirty hacks....

So I read about how NAND mirroring worked as a proof of concept on brute forcing the pass code in Iphone 5c. After reading a few paragraphs, I didn't understand how the researcher came to know what to do with certain challenges along the way. What the hell did I do in my 5 years of studying engineering? I better go back to the basics.

Damn... I've decided to get to work early today. It usually takes about 40 minutes to get to the office. So I've been on the bus at about 8:35.. It's 9:50 and I'm stuck in traffic, with a long way to go... Fuck this shit... ain't gonna get out of bed before 9:20.. What's the point if I get to the office at the same time!?!?8

The way to avoid procrastination is to understand and use what your mind is trying to do - give itself instant gratification.
I use this method:
Step 1: Prepare your workspace in every way possible.
Step 2: Leave. Go do something fun for 20 minutes or so (yes, procrastinate on purpose). Get your mind calmed down and get rid of the anxieties about starting by just not starting.
Step 3: Sit down in your prepped environment, free of distractions and with a calmed mind, and pick a task to start hacking away at. -
Coworker asks me for help with some code.

The guy then proceeds to send me a photo of his greasy laptop screen.
Way to go...1 -

I hate bitmaps in Android. Whoever created those disgusting functions without thinking of of a *simple* way to deal with the garbage they cause is an asshole and I hope they go to the worst corners of hell.

Been picking up Go recently and am really liking the idea of using git repos as library urls, just makes so much sense to me.
Also in general go is just kinda cool and makes me like lower level programming a lot - although I had to learn the hard way with Mutexes and locking.5 -
If you really like math or theory, I think a degree or a few is the way to go. Plus, you can get a head start in your career that way. However, I think I would have not gone to college in hindsight and self-studied since I am regretting the career field now.
-
I hate putting curly braces on the same line as function declarations/if statements/etc but Go forces me to do that.
I understand the reason Go does that but fuck I wanna write my code the way I feel is better to read. I just lost a lot of the excitement of learning Go...5 -
By making badly optimized code that takes forever to run, I have a good reason to do nothing but feel like I'm achieving something by glancing at the progress bar every so often. "Still rolling, way to go my little rock with lightnings. You can do it!"

Me: You do it like this, and I don't know the role by this guy does and all you have to do is ask him for the name of the role to assume.

AT: We're going to do it like this (wrong way, completely against best practices and completely against what the company architects dictate)
Me: No... thats the wrong way. Don't do it that way. That is bad, because (Reasons A, B, C). Do it the way I told you it should be done.
AT: Ok! I see thank you!
3 hrs later
AT schedules a meeting to go over options to do the thing ... including the WRONG WAY and they still haven't talked to That Guy to get the role name they need.1 -
Newb Dev: I've gotten to the point where I can explain the code and non-Dev co-workers give me blank stares. I sit down and realize there's probably a better way to do it, and then go tell the same co-workers and get more blank stares.

Have a big shit with java update on a Debian. Some updates are in bloqued state, apt-get upgrade, no error, no dependence error, but java won't update. Same result with the GUI package manager. Googled but no way to go. Any idea? Thx!3

Urge to rant rising, cap it, you will regret it later.....but I absolutely cannot believe the way some tech is formed.....complain later, but the urge to rant is becoming more important than what I was even doing.....meh. Go get a coffee and have a word with yourself.

Anybody here who writes backends in golang? The preferred way to do so in Go is to use the standard libraries. Does it involve a lot of boilerplate? Are there better options?4

Devrant is so fucking broken. Sign out and go to devrant.com. No fucking way to login, Two fucking identical install buttons in the top right for your fucking crap iOS and Android apps, only way to fucking tell which is which is to hover over link.
I sign in by using a search engine to direct link to a random rant then I can login and post this, but now for some reason /feed and /stories fail to load too many redirects.
Even a worse eXperience than reddit.8 -
I'm torn between 2 choices here:
Either go into an Engineering school to study Software Engineering OR continue all the way to Masters Degree in Artificial Intelligence. Any advice?5 -
I only found out today that there is a light-weight Redis app for Windows that works out of the box.
I thought using Docker Desktop + WSL was the way to go about that.
uhhhh.. makes me wonder what else am I missing out on that's incredibly easy but Im not aware of, yet.4 -
Git Question:
Semiunusual state here. Have a branch I'm trying to merge into develop and there are a LOT of merge conflicts, some head way has been made in this merge branch..
HOWEVER
I'm wondering is there a way to "suspend" the branch/merge progress and go back to develop?9 -
For me the best way to get unstuck is to go for a walk outside the office and think in peace. I work for a small company and we all share a working space so the distractions are endless... Either someone's talking loudly on the phone, or they're asking me questions (and the headphones, for some reason, do not work as a do not disturb sign for my coworkers) so at times it's impossible to concentrate...
When I'm working at home on my own projects, usually on the weekends, I go for a brief swim at the beach. It works wonders.... -
that moment when you have a really promising idea for an app but still don't know how to do it / know exactly it is still a long way to go.

Our Jira does reindexing every night. At that time no issues could be created or resolved.
It just tells us to go to sleep in its own weird way. -
I believe Google assistant has a loooong way to go.
(the hand reference was from a previous part of the conversation based on "lamas with hats") -
I would go back to being a mountain guide for sure. Mountaineering is my passion... But being a dev pays WAY more and it's alright.4

Google Gemini API for Rest is horrible. I dont know if anyone else feels this way. If you want to know how API References and related documentation SHOULD NEVER BE written that way, go check that out.
No wonder Google's GeminiAI adoption is so much lower.1 -
I want to code this application idea that I have but want it to be cross-platform in the end. Is javascript html css the way to go?9
-
A question for all of you. What is the best way in CS to earn enough money for a comfortable life standard and where can people go for this?3

When you dont pay a dev and they go out of their way to screw your political ambition. This is a site of one of the presidential hopeful in our country. Haha2

got a client who wants me to "stream pdf files instead of serving them so users cant download or print them".
as far as I know this is impossible. but he replied we dont care if an IT guy figured out a way to get it but we want majority of normal people to be unable to figure a way around it.
if im gonna need to show ms word and pdf files i will need an iframe or object embed and i cant disable right clicks or listen on ctrl s / p.
any ideas or should i not go for the project :(12 -
Sometimes, I feel like the guy in Swordfish who is getting head but also has to hack into a system in 60 seconds or else he dies. The question is: would you just let yourself enjoy those 60 seconds and die? Bc holy shit, that’s a really nice way to go out.2

So I've come to a crossroads and I'm trying to work out what the best way forward is and I have a question for y'all.
Is a university degree still worth it in this field? Should I go for it and get my degree or spend that time learning myself? How does this effect getting a job? And if you could go back, what would you do.
Thanks in advance.4 -
Why oh why is libgdx on gradle?
Why does gradle exist?
Why...
Please
All I want is a project with some libraries 😭😭
I go to school and I have to take my projects to scool on a memory stick and run them from it. Problem: gradle. Oh wait, NO LIBS. Go DIE. No admin rights at school...
Half the time it doesnt even work at home. I swear I have spent at least a full week 24/7 trying to fix it in the past couple of months.
There has to be a way to purge gradle from the world.3 -
Whenever you're stuck with a problem, Google it and open the first five search results in different tabs and then go through each. You learn a lot more than just the solution to your problem that way. =)

Am I allowed to ask tech questions? Because I can't get my fucking Acer to dual boot a Linux distribution. Tried mint and lxle. Both require I go into legacy mode to boot them from USB, so I can't install them that way... Any ideas?7

I have to say, I was excited about const and let, but seeing const written 10 times stacked on top of itself makes me wish it was just var. It's too long. If you are going to shorten a word - go all the way.1

What's a good way to learn springboot development? I know the fundamentals of java as a language but never used springboot, and I recently got an internshIp that uses it.
Also, where would I go to learn more about proper best coding practices?
Thanks everyone!6 -
The bright side of having a very rare family name is that you barely get contacted by recruiters on linkedin.
The negative side is that you need to go out of your way to find recruiters....
There are 4 people in my country with my family name, potentially 0 abroad...4 -
To reduce accident related deaths by improving response time in developing countries. IOT is the way to go.

First I thought I finally found some public WiFi which isn't unencrypted (Password was on a sign outside).
*Opens WiFi settings*
*WiFi is unencrypted*
Huh? *Connects*
*Sign in page opens up which asks for the password*
Well... VPN is the way to go...9 -
When you're testing a website on the iPhone and in order to clear the cache you have to go through settings menu just to try a fucking tweak out.
Is there any way on the iPhone to do it quickly? < iOS11 you could tap refresh 5 times. ARGHHH2 -
So idk how to start this but ... ohm the short version would be that I'm in a little life crisis because idk where my career should go, i know the basics (maybe a bit more) about it security, i know how to setup a nodeJs server from scratch, i know frontend dev. , swift, kotlin, java, C , R and a lot of useless frameworks but nothing of this I'm really good in (what's ok because im in my 3 semester) i just don't know where i should go.
I seriously love every aspect of computer science but i also know it make no sense for my future not to focus on one suspect.
Now how can i find out with way i want to go ?1 -
Assured the boss that the app will be ready in minutes and only a simple callback implementation is yet to be made. Immediately discovered that the library is inconsistent with the docs and only thing possible is to file an issue. Way to go Facebook Fresco!
-
Bad habits I know but, if I go for a smoke, jump to the toilet and get a coffee in the way back to my desk and stick Spotify on a long playlist I don't tend to move for quite an extended period of time and actually get Shit done. I also find do not disturb to be an incredibly useful feature in Skype for business
-
So, so far for ending my life, I think it will be opening wrists. It seems the most non painfull way to go.
Better ideas ?5 -
hey there
recently I've been thinking about a good way to deploy mass amounts of containers on kubernetes, but before I just go with docker, I want to learn about some alternatives
what are some other container softwares you guys use?2 -
WTF why does Visual C++ show an error in some system include BUT NOT THE FUCKING INCLUDE CHAIN DESPITE /showincludes GIVEN???
How the fuck are you supposed to find a wrongly defined macro that way? Go through all 20 layers of includes and map out what could POSSIBLY be the include chain? Seriously WHY?? -
How do I go into tokenizing strings of text from a LaTeX file into a Go structure for further processing? I feel like splitting hair trying for loop over an io.Reader and using regexp to find where a sentence ends; there must be a better way...2
-
Start out by writing everything I want the project to do down in a text document. That way I can just go down the list and add features in order.

Hey, just need a little advice regarding android kernels.
Does anyone know a simple way to download either pre-compiled or source code of stock kernels delivered with phones?
I flashed one, but have some System UI problems, so I want to go back to stock, but I can't find any download.
I'm running a Samsung Galaxy S6 (zerofltexx).4 -
So I go on scratch (Mild Scratch Programmer), and I see this one person, Who does NOT know how to script or program, even though he specifically states IN HIS PROFILE, that he is a "Professional Scratch Maker", Not even the correct term to describe a "Scratch Project Developer". I literally told him in his profile chat, that the way he described what he was, wasnt the right way and tried to help him update it, and he completely blew up on me and starting getting toxic......God I hate toxic kids.5

Im about to create an ER Model for a Software-Tool im working on in my free time. I haven't done that in a long time, is MySQL Workbench still the right way to go? :)1

I love how they go out of the way to allow the same photos of them to be taken. of course unless they're followed on successive runs there is no way of ensuring their capture is there which is what makes this system of theirs almost make sense if not for allowing more of their kind to be bred

React is so flawed in the sense that it forces you to go a very round about way to implement interaction b/w sibling components..which just gets worse in large scale projects
I had to implement my own event management system for React that worked well in conjunction with Redux.4 -
What would be the one thing you can get it right or do it another way if you can go back to this morning. If its just morning there, last night?2

I was looking to purchase an Apple Mac Studio with M1 Ultra 20-Core CPU | 48-Core GPU with 64GB of ram for $3,999. My friend said I can build a something way faster and cheaper if I go with a PC. Sounds great except for having to build it.9

Spent most of my day trying to create a new project that looks like the rest of our old projects. A quick GitHub template would go a long way please.
