The mobile web version of GitHub is absolute garbage. It's so shitty I don't even get why they bother. It lacks basic features like issue searching and the interface is so dumbed down everything just feels cheap and I always feel like I'm missing out.
All the devs I've talked to say they always just select "show desktop version." I do that too. It works perfectly. It's so fucking annoying. I wish they would just make a real mobile version, that's not missing features, or just default to the desktop app on mobile - works fine and everyone uses it anyway.44 -
More than half of all support calls and tickets we get are so fucking easily searchable through our own fucking website and search engines, it's really fucking annoying sometimes.
"how do I redirect a site?"
Type the fucking word redirect into our helpdesk page.
"how can i reset my email password?"
Literally fucking type the word EMAIL into fucking search bar?!
"hey the article said to go to yourdomain.com/webmail, I'm not getting anything!!!"
"what domain did you use?"
"yourdomain.com of course!"
😥🔫
"how can I add a domain to my hosting?"
Search for the FUCKING word DOMAIN on our online helpdesk.
IT'S REALLY NOT THAT HARD, PLEASE APPLY COMMON SENSE AND USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN.17 -
A client called today because their email wasn't arriving at the receipants inbox but bouncing back with a 'poor MTA rating' error.
Checked about every blacklist I know and our server was definitely not blacklisted. Must be the receipants host which for some reason was blacklisting his specific email address.
Told the client that it wasn't a problem on our side and that he had to request a whitelist himself (we'd do it but it wasn't a specific server problem so we're not going to spend time on that).
Fair enough, he'd do that.
Calls back. "Well, the other party says that your server definitely has a poor rating, it's on your side!!"
Alright, this is getting annoying. Gave him a few blacklist checking sites links and told him to run his domain AND our server IP through it. Indeed came back completely clean.
"But the other party said it's poor rating on your side so I'd think tha........"
YEAH WHY DON'T YOU SHOVE THAT OTHER PARTY UP YOUR FUCKING ASS. I'VE SHOWN YOU PROOF THAT IT'S DEFINITELY NOT ON OUR FUCKING SIDE, EXPLAINED IT TO YOU AND SO ON. MAYBE, FOR ONE FUCKING SECOND, TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE OTHER PARTY IS FUCKING LYING?!?!?
FUCK OFF.9 -
My first rant here, don't know how to start, but fuck these self proclaimed senior developers who can't even get their concepts right about basic things and don't believe in reading docs.
Fuck you for asking if sequelize has a method to return details of the logged in user of your app, it's a fucking ORM you dumbfuck. You are a "full stack" developer for fuck's sake.
Fuck you for making those "minor changes" which breaks build and then blame it on any random plugin or lib used, or my commits.
Fuck you for expecting me to review your code on Sundays because you couldn't finish it on time.
I don't like java, at all, but even I get that without it we wouldn't be where we are right now and can't reach where we aspire to reach. But you can't keep chanting "Java is dead, Java is dead" every chance you get. No, it's NOT dead. Nor is going to, anytime soon.
And for god's sake, please stop choosing one library/plugin over another just on the basis of stars on repo, it's not the only (or valid) criteria. Look if you actually even need it. Think.
And please learn how to google first, and also stop using "the" before every the noun, the adjective and the verb. It's the fucking the annoying to read.
And yes, there are different linting presets out there, and just because a piece of code in a plugin/library/boilerplate is not following your specific, and may I say horrible standard, doesn't mean it's a "bad code". It's written by people who have created/worked-on these libraries as side projects on which your entire career is based upon.
And I haven't even talked about the code you write or your domain knowledge or the way you treat other people. So get off your high horse and behave like a developer, a real one.11 -
Clients who keep calling in.
I'm a first liner and sysadmin, both (official title is Linux support engineer) so I do tickets+calls+server engineering.
It's highly annoying when you've got a busy day with loads of calls and I'm the first first-liner and I'm working on an important/high-prio ticket and PEOPLE KEEP CALLING.
Every time I can write like a few more words and then the fucking phone rings again aaaand so fucking on.
Your concentration is gone, workflow interrupted and my short term memory is shit so I entirely forget what I was debugging.
But, phone comes first 😞6 -
So after using my new MacBook I have 1 complaint... This fucking escape soft button being away from the edge, I understand you want to do symmetry with the finger print scanner but Jesus Christ it's annoying!
Edit: yes it's a minor issue but you notice it during use more than you think43 -
Ranted about him before. The to the max windows fanboy. But next to being that, he had the habit of shooting down any and every idea/suggestion etc I had. Which is still quite 'fine' if you come up with good alternatives but he only came up with his own fucking preferences. (thing to keep in mind is that he wasn't even on our (me and one other guy) projects (!!!))
It would always go like this:
Him: soo, how are you planning on doing this?
Me: well I was thinking about {insert idea}.
Him: *wtf face* why?!?
Me: *comes up with constructive arguments*
Him: well, it's non of my business as I'm not on the project...... Buuuuuuut I'd do it with this: {insert anything in relation to Microsoft and the stack i said}.
It's bearable if that happens once.
It's annoying to fucking death when you hear that 10+ FUCKING TIMES EVERY DAY.
Every time I ended up completely boiling inside and getting the best possible practice at self-control. I never snapped even once.
When he finished his internship I talked to a colleague that he had to partner up with after a week or two to ask what he thought about that guy.
His reaction: he's a fucking disrespectful lowlife and a cunt. He was veeeeeeeeeery annoying with me and always shooting down my ideas but danm he was nearly fucking bullying/intimidating you every fucking day! He makes me fucking sick.5 -
I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.11

YAAAAY IT'S FRIDAAAAAY.
At the end of the day it will be a beer and no annoying clients for a few days!6 -
I find it super annoying, this trend where no one wants to write learning documentation anymore, but instead put up a bunch of demo videos and video "training courses."
I don't want to spend 5 minutes watching you do something that would take me 10 seconds to read. I can't search for terms in your video, and I can't use them as a general reference manual. I can't go at my own pace, easily keep my place between devices, enter code as you go, the list of cons goes on and on.
I would rather pay you money for a good eBook (and no, PDFs don't count), than to have the only realistic way to learn about your software be a playlist on your YouTube channel.
This, however, this...
Went to check out Ansible again, because I've heard good things lately and it's been a couple years since I've looked at it.
Took me a while to find their docs because there's almost no mention of anything on the home page except trying Tower for free.
Found the docs. The first item there is the Quick Start Video and I think, "Cool. That's a good use of video, showing off the product."
I dig out some headphones, click play:
"Ansible is a powerful" BOOM!
Enter my email to watch the video?!
Ah, forget it. Maybe I'll see you next time, Ansible.8 -
'lashed out' to a client for the first time yesterday.
Clients have the habit to call after tickets and while its annoying, it's manageable if it happens *sometimes*
It was happening the entire fucking morning and when a client called for an update about a ticket for the second time, I couldn't help but sound frustrated.
"how far are you with the ticket?"
"i have other things to do as well, you know, you're not the only customer i have to help right now"
"i understand, do you possibly have an eta?"
"no. You're next in line, is that clear enough?"
"okay" *hangs up*
*crap*
He e-mailed me afterwards apologizing, that was nice.
I'm sorry sir 😥 nothing personal but it can become so fucking annoying sometimes.4 -
Actual email I just sent to a customer:
"I logged into your account and I see the problem. I will update you and have it fixed either by tonight or tomorrow morning. It is a rare bug we have encountered before, and we are working on it as you read this. "
The truth:
"Im fucking drunk right now. I know that error. I put off fixing it for awhile now hoping it wouldn't come up because it's fucking annoying to fix. I'll try to fix it tomorrow morning, k no promises though. If I can't I'll still have your problem taken cats of it just means I'll have to do it manually. Anyway.. Gonna drink some more now, bye. "
P. S. There is no we. It's just me. K bye.4 -
What is the worst thing that can happen if you report a security vulnerability to a company?
Get banned by them!
I reported a vulnerability to a company on their Facebook page(cause they don't have an email id where I can report this) and they just banned me from their page. It's really annoying me now.
And the worst thing is that they have still not fixed the issue, I wonder why the hell they banned me then.
I am planning to exploit the vulnerability and teach them why security is so important now.undefined security hacking security+ programming languages hacker coding code security vulnerability vulnerability hack programming22 -
you know what... I'm pissed... I'm fucking mad... this has gotten beyond the point of annoying... and I need to get off my chest... I AM LEARNING HOW TO PROGRAM ANYTHING FROM PYTHON TO C++ TO PHP not "wasting my time playing stupid games" for over 3 fucking years... I tell my parents and they just won't listen... like they think that they're right but they're not... this is my passion and my future life and they shake it off like it's nothing! fuck fuck FUCK! FUCK!!! I really need a stress ball or else I'll probably end up throwing my mouse across the fucking room...16

As a frontend dev, i love watching our backend devs sometimes go like "hey come on it's just css I can do it real quick, let me do it this time" and get super frustrated with failure. Buddy, one of the reasons frontend is not so easy is that it can be real fucking annoying. I'm keeping my distance and respect for your side so stay the fuck away from my dance floor.7

Government Fucking Websites.
Slow as fuck, disorganized, errors from 2004, UI from 2001.
You have to use them at a time when you really don't feel like waiting 30 fucking seconds for each page load.
Or filling out a fucking form that, ok, they made SOME kind of attempt to save your data, but it's overly complex and annoying.
Government websites. Making tasks that should take 5 minutes, 5 hours, since 1998.
Assholes.8 -
It's kind of neat knowing people who are famous for things I don't care about, and having their numbers / talking semi-regularly. They're a special person to so many others, but to me they're just some random person that's mildly annoying.
Like API Guy.
Freaking API Guy.
He's a millionaire musician who's adored by literally millions of people, but none of them know he writes absolutely terrible APIs, zero tests, rushes to the shiniest new things, and happily agrees to everything (often without listening) only to deny it later. Absolutely infuriating.
Or knowing one of Netscape founders as that strange and really terrible trumpet player with the great tequila. He did give me his copy of The C Programming Language (the bible) though. He was cool. Super weird, but cool.
It's just a strange feeling. I don't care, and yet others inexplicably think I should. I don't understand it. They're just people? idk.14 -
Okay, y'all!
Thank you for being remotely interested in my post. It really cheered me up :-D
Here's the definition I submitted, also attached the proof of my humiliation.
devrant
It's the ray of fucking sunshine in a developer's perpetually annoying lifestyle. It is developer-made for developer-use.
An anonymous social platform where the app owners/founders/creators ACTUALLY LISTEN to user feedback!
Developers who have made up a million fucking ways to ask their fucktard co-worker/boss/client to go die, can exchange their creativity for ++s.
It's a platform to channel their rage into a creative rant and calm down a bit. It's like taking a long, deep, virtual breath.
Useless software/apps that behave like they were developed by 5 year olds, also take a hit sometime.
PS - Addiction is a common side effect.21 -
No no no.
This newbie pings me for every thing !
It's fucking annoying !
And I'm annoyed with myself for still being nice !
I don't know if he's ever heard of searching for a solution online for even the most trivial problems !
He's not even aware of restarting something !
I have to tell him to do that !
He doesn't even read the help information for commands !
Why why why.28 -
Was working on a Django thing (server-side, so no dynamicness as far as I'm aware?) under a contractor at my company.
Needed a popup to display results of a subprocess, so I asked "We're going to need to AJAX it, right?" and give brief justification. Guy says no - pretty much "Django 10/10 supports this, let me Google". Proceeds to send me a link to a python package that enables using popups as a way of inputting values for form fields. I see as much on the couple of images for the package demo/introduction, so I'm kind of just like "It doesn't look like it's what we need though..." But the guy says to trust him, and implement it.
A day later, after scrutinizing the demo code, and trying to figure out how to implement the package, I go back to him and say "I really really really don't think this is going to work" and give the same justification from the day before. He opens the demo code himself and follows the long trail of confusing methods and stuff.
After an hour of my sitting there watching him read the code and disappearing for 10 minute periods a few times, he comes to the conclusion "Okay you need to understand the code to implement it. But go ahead and use AJAX"
This is abridged and a few other super annoying things have been cut out, but I TRUSTED HIM.
I. TRUSTED. HIM.3 -
It's so annoying! One of the developers just started explaining to me some of the recent changes in the infrastructure. I made these changes! I know about them and can explain them better than he did. I tried telling him that I already know but he just wouldn't stop. It felt like he was mansplaining. I don't usually get that at work so it was weird and frustrating.11

Disclaimer: searching for a self hosted Spotify alternative but haven't found one yet so suggestions are very welcome!
I really don't get how spotify's music algorithms or whatever the fuck you'd call those (you get what I mean) work.
- Whenever I click on the button which should make a song not appear in my daily mix anymore, I hear it again within a fucking day.
- how the fuck does the getting you new songs which you might like work?! I'm a huge rawstyle fan and mostly listen to, surprise surprise, rawstyle.
Then why in the living fuck keeps Spotify coming up with euphoric/melodic hardstyle tracks?! I like those sometimes but only *sometimes*.
More and more often I have to skip through 20-30+ songs to get one raw song instead of a fucking euphoric one.
Replies from their support are non existent.
It's getting so fucking annoying.21 -
Whoever created LinkedIn website, please fix the fake notifications. It's so annoying. even if there is no messages or request it's still shows the notification 😣4

Fuck you Xiaomi for creating MIUI, damn it's so bloated with non-removable adware to the level of extreme annoying. It Keeps popping up ads from creating a Folder to Playing a music.
Look at that screenshot. It even serve an ad in built in cleaner app, like What the fuck man?! For real? I already disable the serve ads option. But it keeps turning on.
I even messing with the Permission settings, doesn't even help.
I REALLY WANT TO MOVE TO LINEAGE OS SO BAD, but the warranty is on duration. I don't want to void it.
God, give me a patience for another 7 month.24 -
People are so annoying.
It's 12 so finally, happy new year!
I'm trying to spend my new year by reading and there are annoying idiots outside have a country from 10 to 1 until it was 12 am.
Now they have fireworks and are screaming at the top of their lungs with music...
Looks like I won't have a peaceful night.14 -
I've become a night worker. To put it mildly, it's become mildly annoying. I start studying/writing code at night and before I know it, it's morning. I can't seem to stop. I then end up feeling weak and sleepy during the day when I need to be awake. If I'm lucky, I get a few hours of sleep during the day. And then at night, it happens all over again. I need to fix this.9

Dear people who think Microsoft buying GitHub is fine because Microsoft is more supportive of open source than before.
Here's the facts.
1) Microsoft is a large tech company investing in many things. That's a fact.
2) If Microsoft were to exploit GitHub, it would be a benefit to other departments in Microsoft. This is also a fact.
(For example, if tomorrow GitHub was tied to azure or some annoying shit like that.)
3) If such exploitation occurs, it will most likely be to the detriment of the free community of developers. This is a highly probable outcome.
4) The only question now is this.
"Does Microsoft care about open source enough to cut down on potential profit."
The answer of any sane, unbiased individual had to be no.
This is why people leave GitHub today. It is NOT because some childish hatred for Microsoft. In fact, I would've personally moved out of GitHub if "any" other large tech company had bought it, thereby compromising it's neutrality.

Why are we still having degree vs autodidact arguments/debates?
It's fucking 2018, who gives a flying fuck how you learn?
Stop giving a shit about how people learn and give a shit about their abilities and skills.
I'm tired of people from both sides (people with degrees and autodidacts) acting like they're better than the other. Stop being arrogant cunts.
Some people have the self control and motivation to teach themselves.
Congratulations! That's fucking awesome.
Others don't and could use a structured environment like University to motivate and encourage them.
Hey it happens. At least you're trying.
My god. Just stop with this shit already. It's annoying and unnecessary.
If you made it this far, how's your week been going?32 -
It's Saturday and I'm writing documentation. I enjoy doing it and it feels good knowing that others would read it and find it useful. It feels like a better kind of revenge against all the shit documentation I've ever had the misfortune of reading in my entire life. Also, it benefits me because I'm a forgetful person. It doesn't matter if I worked on something for several years, if I'm not working on it now, I don't know what it's about.
It happened many times that a colleague asked me about something, I said I don't know, and they replied, "Yes, you do, it says here that you're the author." Over time, I improved and started saying "I don't remember, let me check" instead. But if you have an annoying colleague who doesn't remember the shit they made some time ago, it's probably me.
I'm 69 years old, please forgive me. I'm dying soon. Always remember me.10 -
FUCK! It's so FUCKING HOT. GODDAMN FUCKING SHIT. EVERYTHING IS SO MUCH MORE FUCKING ANNOYING IN THE HEAT. COUPLE THAT WITH THE FACT THAT I SUCK ASS AT EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO AND I SNAP AT THE SLIGHTEST THING. I NEED THAT FUCKING DEVRANT STRESS BALL, BEFORE I THROW MY SHITTY BOOK ACROSS THE ROOM, FOLLOWED BY MY CONTROLLER, MY LAPTOP, AND MY DESK SOON AFTER.
Fuck.12 -
Apple iPhone testing without being on the app store is so annoying, I had to sign up some people to test the app I've been working on and had issues on my end, it really is this whole security bullshit, really it isn't needed.
I couldn't get the team provisional certificate thing to show up because when I clicked the account the team certificate settings would disappear, only after right clicking and hitting help then clicking the team while it was selected could I go to the right window.
I don't see why it's so damn hard to do this crap.
Yet with Android, it's so easy.
I really have issues with the testing for this iPhone app, I went through so many different ways to try and get it to work.
Anyways all done, crashlytics is an awesome testing tool if you can get around that small issue I had.4 -
Waiting for the perfect browser :
1. It's not Safari or IE and without their shitty problems.
2. It's not a RAM gobbler like Chrome. But has its minimal UI.
3. Has Chrome like dev tools or Firebug and nothing less than those.
4. Does not have ads.
5. Cross platform. On both desktop and mobile.
6. Web extensions only
7. Everyone loves it. Even fanboys who swear by Safari
8. Blocks annoying pop ups on some sites.
You're open to contribute more points!35 -
Whenever I see "404" I instinctively add "x not found" after it in my head. Like if this got to 404 upvotes, I'd immediately think "404 upvotes not found." Anyone else do this? It doesn't matter what the context is, I ALWAYS do it. It's almost annoying.3

Companies emailing you about a product in your cart is annoying as fuck.
If I wanted it, I'd have bought it whenever I fucking put it in my cart. Don't email me everyday telling me it's there17 -
Reading 3GPP standards is so painful. I download a document to read it. A month or so later, an updated version is out. I need to download it again. It's so annoying to keep checking. I guess I'll have to write yet another script for yet another fucking problem.
The documents themselves are not that good too. My work would be a lot easier if there is a web interface for the standards.3 -
Sometimes I feel like my job is just babysitting my coworkers. I need to find a way to teach them how to think for themselves.
I'm not a senior dev but I am the one my coworkers turn to for help. I like helping (even if it's annoying some times), so I'm thinking about embracing the mentor role in my team. My plan for now is to stop giving the answers right away (which I usually do to get back to my work) and instead try to guide my coworkers into figuring out the issue themselves. This will take more of my time of course and will require I practice my patience in a possibly stressful environment (depending on how close deadlines are), but I'm hoping that it'll produce better coworkers (one can dream, at least).
Do any of you know of any good reading resources about mentoring or becoming a mentor, specifically in tech/development?7 -
I fucking hate CORS. I mean yeah I get that it's for security and all but fucking COCKSUCKER is it ever fucking getting annoying dealing with this shit…5

I've run into my first nVidia driver issues. Ever. ☹
I'm attempting to install the drivers on my shiny new Dell XPS15 8750. It has both an Intel (default) and nVidia graphics card; the Intel works just fine out of the box with Nouveau, with terrible fps. Installing the nVidia drivers causes a conflict with those, and X just displays a black screen. I can still interact via the virtual terminals, but with a 4k display it's kind of annoying.
I'm currently trying to install nvidia-bumblebee and related crap, bur it is not going well.20 -
My girlfriend configuring her e-mail account in the app because her phone had to be reset to factory :
-I can't figure out how to do these setting, annoying...
-Oh yeah the imap and smtp servers can be tricky, let me put that
(I Google the settings for her mail provider and put them in)
-It still doesn't work.
-Uuuh, maybe with another security setting, try it.
-This shit still doesn't work, seriously my phone is broken.
-Have you verified the e-mail address and carefully typed the password?
-Yes of course, I've tried it several time
(I take the phone and check all the parameters... During a looooong time... Until it hits me.)
-Hmm... Can you read the e-mail you've entered?
-Yeah, it's my mail, blabla@hotmail.com.
-No can you read it again please?
-It's blabla, why?
-No, can you *spell* your e-mail?
-Yeah it's B-L-A-B-L-A-@-H-O-M-A... Ow shit...

Someone in Indonesia is using my email adress to order stuff from a site called Lazada. My email account is not compromised as far as I know. But It's really annoying always getting order confirmation emails in bahasa Indonesia.
I've got "kikis" phone number and adress. Any advice what i've could do to make her stop?18 -
(maybe) unpopular opinion
I hate the I'm at 127.0.0.1|localhost meme
It's a loopback address
It's like saying I live at home
Like why do people think it's funny or smart to post stuff like that
Even the doormat that was going around isn't necessary accurate, since it's per machine (in this case a human).
Like if you have the home saying it's localhost then you are obviously not.
Maybe I'm just being mean here but it's like really annoying after a while5 -
Why don't designers use git, or at least use version numbers in their files?
Looking at around 20 files in my downloads folder called "final" and it's bloody annoying.9 -
Annoying thing happened at work as usual -> can't get the mood to code -> procrastinate -> finally get my shit together -> get some work done -> shit it's 07.00 PM I should be going home already -> still coding because I started late -> shit it's 09.00 PM -> get the fuck home -> I need time to be alone and relieve stress by surfing the web -> shit it's 02.00 AM -> try to get some sleep -> Why did she left me? How's dad doing? God I think I that function that I coded today is awful, gotta fix it tomorrow. Am I going to afford a house EVER? Fuck what I'm doing with my life. -> Shit it's 05.00 AM, I MUST SLEEP. -> (kinda sleep) -> Fuck it's 10.00 shit shit shit shit -> arrive at work -> I'm not ready to open the code -> procrastinate -> ...4

I hate wish! It's so annoying! Oh, my freaking God. I went as far as to download the app to complain about it. I see it everywhere! Whenever I'm watching a clip on YouTube, a movie , playing a game, and obviously on T. V. I can't take this anymore! I downloaded this app, but it just comes off as confusing, I don't know, maybe because it's my first time here; I don't like the fonts and sizes they chose but anyways...wish, Oh, my God! I just wish for it to go away and leave me alone. 😑😡11

So I just heard a person giving career advice say not to use mailto on your profile as a button. The reason is that, "she doesn't use the apple email thing, and it's annoying having to copy and paste it into Gmail. At which point, her attention is lost." do these people really make any decisions at any levels at all? God help us. (For the record, I don't believe in God).9

Beautiful Sunday morning, still no snow here (😒 mother nature) and I realized that I am... Googleable. Like, my name is now out there because of publications. Like, I have been protecting my identity for a long time now, so it's very annoying that I finally have been exposed.
Anyways, how do y'all deal with online fame and recognition?16 -
The entire fucking internet is an unusable pile of shit. Why is it that every time I click on LITERALLY ANY link on google and I start reading, 2 seconds later the text shifts to an other location because the fucking font loads, 3 seconds later it fucking moves again because a god damn ad just loaded above it, and after all the loading bullshit is done it shoves a fucking cookie banner (that usually covers half the page) and a fucking newsletter popup in my face. This makes it literally impossible to quickly read someting on a website without interruption. It's fucking 2020 and we bout to put a fucking man on mars, yet the technology still isn't advanced enough to make the internet less fucking annoying.12

I started attending this IoT class in some computer training school. During my first class, I was early because I had the raspberry pi class earlier in the day. A guy came up to me and started chatting to me, he was bragging about how he created some big projects, how he works in his dad's company which develops IoT products (he codes it). Later on in class he talked about how he hacked his school's server or something and changed his marks. Whenever he brags, he has a tendency to use a deeper voice (which is pretty annoying).
Anyways so I thought he is pretty good and maybe I can learn a thing or two from him. A few class later, I started having my doubts, why? Because he doesn't know how to debug code, he copies the lecturer's code and still copies it wrong, and he doesn't know what variables and constants are. He uses IE and doesn't know about GitHub.
Now he asks me or the guy in front for help in class. He makes the class more fun, it's funny listening to him brag. Love it.2 -
Hey Google, maybe I'd subscribe to YouTube Premium if you weren't throwing midroll ads into my tutorials every 3:45.
It's stupid, because they're trying so hard to annoy me into subscribing that they've done the opposite and annoyed me into NOT subscribing. I'd have considered it before, but ever since their recent changes it's so frickin' annoying that I refuse to subscribe just on principle because I won't financially support those pieces of trash anymore than absolutely necessary.18 -
Dates are f***ing annoying, we humans deal with them in such a weird way. It's almost impossible to define a algorithm dealing with them consistently.8

I am angry. Do you know why? It's a rhetorical question, because you don't know why I am angry, which is why I'm going to tell you why I'm so. I Followed my friend, " Jane Doe" ( you don't need to know her actual name) to this store in my town. Then these 14-15 years old girls came up to me, and started asking me about my braces. "Where'd you get it?
" How much did it cost ?"
I get these questions like almost every single, and it's annoying. 😒
This one question got me angry. "What 'if' her braces are fake?" A girl said whispering to her friend.
Fake??? My braces are realer than you could ever be, jealous bitch. I said that in my mind, I don't have the guts to say it out loud, besides these girls look like they could tear me to pieces, and I wanted no conflict. I walked away as soon as my friend got her stuffs from the store.
My friend couldn't help but to tease me that I'm a doormat. I guess she's right. 🤔☹😤😟😖27 -
My kid has a toy car he can sit on, ride and play some music by pressing a huge button. He loves it! And he loves that music.
I don't mind the music, but I do mind how loud it is. When it's playing it's VERY hard to understand what other people in the same room are saying. Now imagine that car starts playing while you're still asleep....
It can scare the shit out of someone! Not to mention it is annoying af.
So today I dug up my never-used kit of eclectronics compoents and some tools. Spent an hour or so and installed a potentiometer in that car from hell! Now I can alter its volume.
I know it's not much, but I feel as if I were an engineer :) That's a nice feeling. I like it.
Just wanted to share6 -
Just came back to an old project I haven't touched in a while and realized I did an awesome job documenting it. It's almost annoying my level of detail. I'm proud of my past self for thinking of me now.3

Hey! You there!
Are you sick of windows 10 sending you intrusive reminders about updates? Are you tired of random unscheduled restarts? Tired of feeling like you have no control over your own computer?
Take back control!
DO THE FUCKING UPDATE, YOU FUCKING INCOMPETENT, USELESS, LAZY, PIECE OF DRY WANK!
Seriously guys: pick a time convenient to you, and take 5 or 10 minutes (when you're likely spending hours at your computer), and do them. Not only will you get rid of the annoying notifications, but you'll also keep your pc safe and secure by keeping up with security patches. C'mon people, it's really not that difficult.
And can we please, for the love of all things holy, stop the circlejerking? You're developers, you are the computer proficient. The only things a PC will do are the things you tell it to do. Dig deep, dig into the registry, dig into the services manager, dig into the fucking settings cos a good number of the most common complaints can be fixed in the basic options menu. Tell your computer to stop doing the things you don't like and it will stop.
It's really not hard!19 -
Java
It's my favorite language because I started learning programming in Java when I was in school.
The most annoying thing in Java is I don't feel like writing System.out.println each time.12 -
I understand now! I keep getting ++ on rants I wrote forever ago, and I finally understand the formula to become devrant famous:
1. Pick something that is mildly annoying and at least mildly tech related. For best reception, it should be something widespread, uncustomizable (and or difficult to customize so nobody does), and just mildly annoying so it's not too over played.
2. Post a long form rant, using almost the entire character limit to make this one, insignificant annoyance into a much bigger issue than it is. This is how the mainstream media does it, this is what the people want!!!!!
3. Somehow find a way to shift the blame onto one of the following groups: Microsoft, apple, arch, arch fanboys, arch haters, users, management, the fundamental laws of physics that allow computers to function, or in a worst case scenario start a flamewar (emacs sucks; arch is the best operating system; micro$hit; it's just Linux, if they wanted to call an OS GNU, they would finish fucking Hurd; etc. It's almost too easy)
4. Sit back and wait. You're now internet famous in a tiny portion of the internet. Congratulations. You've made it.11 -
So we have an API that my team is supposed send messages to in a fire and forget kind of style.
We are dependent on it. If it fails there is some annoying manual labor involved to clean that mess up. (If it even can be cleaned up, as sometimes it is also time-sensitive.)
Yet once in a while, that endpoint just crashes by letting the request vanish. No response, no error, nothing, it is just gone.
Digging through the log files of that API nothing pops up. Yet then I realize the size of the log files. About ~30GB on good old plain text log files.
It turns out that that API has taken the LOG EVERYTHING approach so much too heart that it logs to the point of its own death.
Is circular logging such a bleeding edge technology? It's not like there are external solutions for it like loggly or kibana. But oh, one might have to pay for them. Just dump it to the disk :/
This is again a combination of developers thinking "I don't need to care about space! It's cheap!" and managers thinking "100 GB should be enough for that server cluster. Let's restrict its HDD to 100GB, save some money!"
And then, here I stand trying to keep my sanity :/1 -
I find it annoying when non-tech savvy people criticize the Parler devs for using AWS because "it's Amazon they had it coming", I don't know the devs or company behind that website, I've never used it, but wtf man do you have any idea what's involved in building, deploying and maintaining a platform like that or any other similar? ffs you would barely be able to write an HTML blog by yourself and you dare judge devs for using AWS. fuck off.
I agree with the sentiment, it sucks, if my platform was removed from AWS I probably would keep it that way because I don't have the money to afford the hardware nor am I somewhere that's readily available and that's what is really sad it would suck that just because Amazon doesn't like you or you don't have the influence to fight it you and your userbase can go fuck off. Very bad precedent, it is discouraging.30 -
All these people hearing music in the train or somewhere else... It's fucking annoying! Even with headphones! You can hear through!
We don't want to hear your shitty music. Fuck off!6 -
Rant on adaptive brightness....
So basically on my laptop there is this "function" that if the screen is mostly black it lowers the brightness, while if it's white makes it higher....
This means, if you are on devrant or discord or visual studio or any dark UI and then switch to something like google you will get freaking blinded by the max brightness, and when you'll switch back to the first program due to the lower brightness it won't look good and also it will be annoying to the eyes, and you CAN'T make it brighter because that's already the max brightness
...
WHO THE F*CK THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A GOOD IDEA
If you really want to do something like this at least make it opposite: white screen low brightness, black screen higher brightness.
Well, i don't like it, maybe someone likes it, so can i disable it ?
NO
I have it disabled both in power saving settings and in the intel control panel but it's still active, the only way to fix it is set a registry key i found online and then reboot, but guess what, after one or two weeks it reverts back to enabled :/3 -
Am I the only one that thinks it's annoying when people use the weekly rant in their tags when their rant has nothing to do with the weekly rant?4
-
Ok people. If you see a forum with an issue you're having, for the love of fuck, don't post "Omg I'm having that same issue!" Quite frankly, I don't give two shits if you have this issue or not. It's annoying as fuck to have to read through 3 pages of that bullshit to get to the answer for the problem.5
-
Fuck you companies that have hidden requirements in. their. job. offers.
It's so annoying to spend my valuable time on an application for a job that I think myself a perfect fit for, just to find out that they are looking for applicants "with more experience in..." (fill in the gap)
Just fucking put it in the requirements already and save us both our time.3 -
Not exactly a dev story, but an annoying experience overall. So, I was going to a Starbucks near me, I was too lazy to drive to the nearest shop that sells coffee, so I just went here. I was beginning my work (updating one of my old programs to a usable level). I was downloading some libraries from github for the project, as a middle-aged woman walks behind me. She looks at my laptop, and sees a terminal screen with git clone running. Now, I can understand, that if you aren't proficient at technology, a terminal can look suspicious. But she straight up said: "Stop hacking our passwords, it's illegal!". At this point, she walks over and asks the manager to come look. The manager comes, and calls their "IT guy". The supposed IT guy comes over, chuckles a bit and walks away. The manager proceeds to kick me out, and give me a warning to not come again.5

It's fucking annoying when your roommate feels the need to play their music so loudly you can hear it through the walls. That's not fucking necessary... I listen to music all the time without it being that loud. And if I want loud music, I do the polite thing of putting my headphones in. This shit didn't bother me early on, but it's getting on my last fucking nerves these days.
I'm trying to do homework and can barely focus because of the constant sound of bass non-stop.6 -
It's really annoying when "programmers" who have only worked on one language/framework defend it as superior against any other framework. If you haven't tried Rails, how the fuck can you say Express is better? $;:&/@:$).
PS: if you've tried both and you like Express over Rails, I have nothing against you :)1 -
Depends. No one took for the job. VSCode is really good for web and Python. I use Visual Studio for c#, c++ and c. Jetbrains for Java stuff, including Android studio.
When writing SQL I usually use vendor-provided editors like MySQL Workbench. They're the tool made for the job.
Visual Studio Code is my generic editor thanks to it's easy-access terminal. Makes running anything a breeze.
It doesn't feel as snappy as other editors though and installing plugins just for intellisense to work can be annoying, which is why I use other tools for other workflows.
Generally, I avoid things like vim. Sorry, but I have a mouse AND a keyboard. Paid for em both, and I intend to use em. Sometimes I wanna find a setting in a menu and not fuck around with config files after googling what the right setting is called.
I used Sublime for a while, but never really got too into it. It's okay.1 -
Look... Linux... I fucking love you and I especially love elementary OS but please... Why is it so fucking difficult to be able to play a youtube video in fullscreen or have a browser go fullscreen without the window locking up -.-
(Feel free to chip any advice, it's super annoying because it works perfectly on my primary monitor but not any other)12 -
There is a very handy shortcut for us, the people who use the terminal every day. It's [CTRL]+w. It erases a word on the left.
HOWEVER, it is quite annoying to be used to that shortcut when you are in a browser. Especially when you've been writing a well-thought-out letter for half an hour or so.
DAMN IT!14 -
Procrastination is weird... Their were a piece of code I wasn't looking forward to work on, so I started cleaning my apartment instead, putting some order in my files, and even tidy up my desk, which I didn't do for months 😐
And it finally took me 10min to actually write the code 😆
It's annoying, but I can't be the only one 🤔
At least I can enjoy a clean setup... Until it become a mess again...7 -
So before the Age of JavaScript, when programming was trying to be an engineering discipline, I felt like we were getting close to figuring out what worked and what didn't. We had rules of thumb (more general than Patterns) and code smells.
Then JavaScript came in and no one had time to think about "engineering" anymore. I'm fine with MVP and small iterations, but the disdain I see for making code clean and extendable and improvable is baffling (and annoying). First-time coders might never have had to fix someone else's code, but two weeks in a chair should have fixed that.
It's not that understanding code is so hard (although it can be); understanding the _intent_ is hard. This MVP is great, but when no one had time to document what is actually supposed to happen, programmers have to reverse-engineer the *design*.4 -
How lawyers fuck up technology!
I rented a car today, given that I don't want to go by train currently. That was some VW Golf, and it had a lane assist which can't decide whether to be helpful or obnoxious:
Either I kept the steering wheel and still steered myself, in which case the lane assist's actions made the steering feel somewhat wobbly. Initially, I suspected a worn out control arm bearing, but that's a long term damage in aging cars, not in new ones.
Or I just rested my hands on my upper legs, as I usually do (palms facing upwards and holding the wheel lightly), then the lane assist worked by itself. It was even smart enough to deactivate itself upon blinking before changing lanes.
However, it complained after about 15 seconds that I didn't steer. I said, shut up and do your job. The warning intensified, and I said, fuck you. Then it initiated some stutter braking to wake me up. Annoying like a reincarnation of Clippy.
I ended up giving the steering wheel a slight tip to the right every 15, 20 seconds just to let the lane assist know I was still there, relying on the lane assist to correct it again. On a long trip, I would have had to deactivate that crap.
Obviously, the VW engineers did their job, but the legal department feared law suits should anything go wrong and ruined the feature!
What was also annoying is that there is no real hand brake anymore in many modern cars. Sucks when pulling off against a hill. Plus that at red traffic lights, I usually put the gear out (manual transmission) and pull the hand brake instead of keeping my foot on the clutch. That's not the same with this pseudo hand brake!
(In case you wonder why anyone would do that:
it's an anachronism that avoids lengthening the clutch wires, decades after cars switched to hydraulics.)14 -
I think this is both a blessing and a curse for me.
Whenever I'm developing something, I ALWAYS keep coming up with new (good) feature ideas WHILE programming. Now, this isn't as bad because they enrich the software/service mostly but goddamn, it's so fucking annoying when I'm working on a certain function/feature and I change stuff three motherfucking trillion times before finishing it because I keep coming up with fifteen billion new ideas.
In the end it's all worth it but at some moments it gets really fucking annoying.11 -

So I'm a BI consultant, been doing this for about 6 years now, and I'm pretty good at the data stuffs. Now I had to complete a project for a client where we call a web service and it had to be done in .NET. I wrote a console app in C# that called the WS, dumped the data then a stored proc processed the staging tables into final tables that our visualization tool can consume.
It works, it's done.
Mind you I'm not a pure .NET developer.
And now that it's completed and working this fucking .NET dude that works for my client is basically giving me an attitude talking about "why wasn't it done as a Windows service? Blah, blah" Like WTF!!??? I get that he's the C# BSD but like chill bruh!!
It's annoying as fuck having to work on projects that are not your area of EXPERTISE and then be ridiculed by other elitist assholes about it.
Doesn't happen much, but fuck it's something I hate about dev. FYI, if it was the opposite I would just be asking questions for understanding, not being a sarcastic prick.
//rant done5 -
So when does it get less annoying when someone assumes that you play video games every day just because you spend until late night programming?3
-
My job sends out emails with things like "You won a prize!" In the subject line with embarrassingly vague reasons to click the links in the email. If you do, the links take you to a site where they slap your wrists for clicking an unknown link and teach you about the dangers of phishing.
It's fake spam. Ironically enough, though, it's the ONLY spam I ever get. It's more annoying than real spam because it never gets blocked by the system like an actual phishing attack would...
It is driving me crazy having to delete these stupid messages every day and they're clogging up my otherwise clean inbox! I don't even know who to contact about this bullshit because they're so "haha we got you!" about it, there's no department claiming responsibility. They're creating their own spam trying to prevent spam. What the hell?9 -
If you are one of all those awesome developers and hackers and I only understand 20% of your rants then props to you and keep scrolling :-D
But if you are a young developer, fresh grad or just learning programming I have an idea, how about a mentor?
This literally just pop in my head right now while cleaning my kitchen!
I'd be learning along your side and also having lots of fun! I don't have any formal experience providing mentoring but have some education credits and patience.
I'm gonna stop the sales pitch because it's annoying even me! but Idk, i just thought that maybe there's someone else out there interested in mentoring services :P3 -
Anyone else have people that seem to constantly try to "prove" themselves to you in this weird, competitive way that only makes them seem... very annoying? I'll call him Bob here, but it's always something like:
Bob: Hi Almond, how's it going?
Almond: Ah not bad thanks, PSU blew up in the PC over the weekend though so that was a bit of a faff!
Bob: Ah no! How old's your PC?
Almond: Oh, like 7-8 years old now. I don't replace it often.
Bob: Really?! I replace mine completely every year.
Almond: Ah, cool.
Bob: Yeah, I'm a dev so I feel I need to. It's like my tool, you know.
Almond: Sure thing!
Bob: I actually spend quite a lot on it. I make sure it's got the fastest memory I can afford. Like, DDR5 stuff. That's really important, you know.
...etc., while I try to get out of said conversation for the next eternity.
Or:
(while in a conversation about a frontend bug I was looking at in Chrome devtools)
Bob: Hey Almond, you know Firefox actually had a plugin that did all this stuff before everything else?
Almond: Err, yeah, I think so. Used it back in the day.
Bob: It was called firebug. It was really good. Revolutionary.
Almond: Certainly was.
Bob: It was launched in January 2006 you know.
Almond: Right...
Bob: I used it back then.
...I mean damn, I'm all for being civil, but no-one cares you replace your PC every year, or that you know the year firebug was released, or that you once set up 5 identical PCs with different versions of Linux to run some benchmarks...18 -
God fucking damnit automating a client's "Job applicant form" system is the most boring shit l've ever done.
Get me some damn monkeys to do this
"Oh OK so I just have to take this form and turn it into HTML. Oh shit, 25 check box's, let's just copy paste this shit in over and over. Oh damn, forgot I have to change the name and value fields for each one. God damnit this is boring, I guess I have to"
Fucking hell it's annoying work, Boring, easy, no thought needed. Ended up turning this task into a drinking game. Every time the word "Management" came up, I took a shot. Got me pretty fucked up.
Client emails back; "Oh ya, I forgot to tell you, we have these 3 other forms we want you to automate".
Well fuck at this point I feel like more of an alcoholic than a developer.5 -
I mean, I really, really like Linux, don't get me wrong but I don't know if it's my Pi or something I've done but I've always gotten issues with it after a few weeks/months.
Everything will flow smoothly until it crashes, and it won't start the x server, and pretty much everything tells me there is a segmentation fault. A fresh install fixes the issue but I also loose all the stuff I've done with my previous install. Really annoying and I haven't found a definitive answer as to why this happens.
Oh well.7 -
It's annoying when clients are such big fucking assholes that they make you want to leave an awesome job2
-
I don't seem to understand why so many developers nowadays are focused on learning newer frameworks rather than focusing on best practices and learning how to code better.
"Hey I learnt React today, we should totally switch to it because it's so amazing"
> mfw the same guy doesn't even know how to follow coding styles, write good code that scales or document his code.
I think some people need to take a step back and focus on the more vital tasks of writing good code to begin with rather than getting so excited about every new thing that surfaces. It's annoying as fuck to deal with some of these people who you have to work alongside and be able to read their loopy shit code and all they are doing in their time is refreshing hackernews.8 -
It's interesting that the most capable developers I have met have a harder time getting a job than the incapable ones.
All things equal, but skill, it's annoying to see.6 -
It's so annoying when your colleague dev says: "It's just a 30minutes task, I'm sure you'll do it in lesser time" NO I CAN'T!!!
Did anyone else had this kinda situation? :/6 -
Something that really annoys me is when people abuse the lax semicolon rules in JavaScript. Personally I believe semicolons should be a standard and always used in a language like JavaScript, and while the loose rule on semicolons may be considered convenient when one is forgotten every now and then, it is /not/ meant to be abused and semicolons completely unused. It's particularly annoying when I have to work on a group repo at work and the standard is to not use semicolons. JavaScript to me is much more similar to a C style language than something like Python, so even though the language is built to be loose and easy conventions such as bracket scoping and semicolons should be kept and practiced.4

Installing Windows on a laptop, it's late in the night here, so I kept that laptop aside and was programming away on my primary laptop, when suddenly-
"HI THERE I'M CORTANA!"
I nearly jumped out of my skin.
Seriously, Microsoft, I like the recent stuff you've been doing but please get rid of that. It's extremely annoying.3 -
Some intellect at Apple thought it would be helpful for macOS to reopen all my previous applications at once after restarting from an improper shutdown. Thank God it's much less annoying nowadays due to SSD load times.
The worst was when Safari was the cause, so Apple reopened it to the same page, and it crashed again. 👏👏2 -
I just got the book "The C Programming Language, 2nd Edition" from Amazon.
I've had my wars with Amazon in the past for not protecting packages properly, and now it happened again. For the third time in 6 months.
The cover of the book is damaged, pages are bend a bit and it looks like someone took a key and tried to draw something on the front cover.
I contacted customer support to get a replacement, which was no problem, but still fucking annoying that I have to spend time on this shit.
Anyway, what pisses me off is the amount of work I have to do in order to send this shit back to them. Holy fuck!
First of all, I haven't met a single competent employee at a "post office" here in Denmark, as all of the offices are now a part of a either hyper markets or grocery stores. This means, that it's the stores employees handling this.
In this process from Amazon I have to actually clear it for customs with a form they need to take care of.
I have to print 4 labels, 2 which I need to sign and 2 I need to do something else with...
But I'm so freaking scared that they'll fuck this up and I'll get billed for 2 books. It wouldn't fucking surprise me, considering how fucking shit our postal service is in Denmark and how I've been screwed over by Amazon in the past4 -
"Suggest an AV/AM product, Avast refuses to install."
I do malware research as a hobby and have for a while, so I can generally spot when something's up before I even run a program. If i'm unsure about it (or know something's up and wanna see its effects for S&Gs) I throw it into one of a variety of VMs, each with a prepped, clean, standardized "testing" state.
I see no point to AV/AM products, especially as they annoy me more than anything since they can't be told not to reach into and protect VMs (thereby dirtying up my VM state, my research, crashing the VM hypervisor and generally being *really* annoying) and they like to erase samples from a *read-only, MOUNTED* VHDX.
However, normal people need them, so I usually suggest this list:
• MBAM is good and has a (relatively) low memory footprint, but doesn't have free realtime protection.
• Avast is very good as it picks up a lot, but it eats a FUCKTON of resources. It also *really* likes to crash VM hypervisors if it sees anything odd in them.
• AVG is garbage. Kill it with fire.
• Using Windows Defender is like trying to block the rain with an umbrella made of 1-ply toilet paper.
• herdProtect is amazing as it's basically a VirusTotal client but it's web-based and not currently available to be downloaded. (Existing copies still work!)
• Kaspersky. Yes, it spied on US gov't workers. No, they don't care about anyone BUT US gov't workers. Yes, it's pretty good.
• BitDefender: *sees steam game* "Is this ransomware?"
hope this helps15 -
I just overestimated the fuck out of some tasks because I knew the client would come back last minute and cut the deadline in half.
2 days later they do just that, luckily I overestimated the work so now it's all good.
The annoying thing is that they keep doing this, but since I work for an agency I have no power to drop this client since they give us a lot of work, so that sucks6 -
Elon musk starts new companies like I start new projects.
I like that he's doing AI research, but it's annoying that the day after he tweets something, everybody's telling me that Elon Musk already invented true AI.
These companies are basically just think tanks, so why not call them that?4 -
Either CloudFlare itself has decided to join the fun of attacking my DNS server, or somebody is just spoofing their IP in the UDP packets.
Crap, my ipset script is basically useless now, since the real source could be from anywhere :(
Any suggestions on what could I do to make this attack stop? It's not causing any real issues (at least for now), but it's still annoying as hell.
Get fucked, stupid skiddie who keeps manually changing the ip source in his script10 -
Windows decides to finish faulty programs whenever it likes. İt's so annoying, I did just one small mistake in c++. I wrote "new char(length);" instead of "new char[length];" and I have been dealing with this shit for three days. Then I run the program on Linux and boom it failed in the same spot, which I fixed. But in Windows it sometimes runs, sometimes fails or sometimes even fails on unrelated places. Wtf windows? How about security and shit. There was literally a buffer overflow and you still keep running the program. And why GCC didn't even popped a warning. I hate developing c :(8
-
I like developing on windows. Like many people here I got into development at home starting as a hobby when I was in school so there were things I still did on my computer that Linux wasn't really appropriate for.
I've made the jump to Linux in the past but found that it was awkward and annoying when I needed to do something on my windows. And I hate doing Dev out of a VM. So I've just got used to using windows at home.
And honestly, I don't know what's happening to everyone who keeps getting broken Windows updates. I think I've had 2 in living memory.
It's in no way perfect but what is? I don't use Windows servers, just for when I'm at home. -
Constantly touching the display of my laptop, or any display for that matter.
It drives me up a fucking wall.
1. None of these devices support touch
2. You can point the thing out with your finger without touching the glass / plastic. Or just use my damn mouse.
3. Seeing the smears all over my screen is annoying as hell. I always find a new smudge and it's irritating.5 -
Fuck off Windows Defender.
I love Windows but this defender shit is fucking annoying me with it's popup messages to enable SmartScreen. Fuck you and your piece of shit SmartScreen.7 -
It's embarassing and you guys will find it either rude or annoying but I have readied myself and here goes my confession;
Whenever I see the abbreviation for Command line interface I cringe. You know because cli ? And I read it in my head as 'Kli' which is like the shortened form of a female part ?
I can't just read it as "See, el, ai" or think 'Command line interface' directly.
My brain's first thought is it must be an acronym so you should read it like how you would read NASA which is also an acronym and not like 'cmd' which is not an acronym but just an abbreviation.
Thus whenever I see it I feel a mixture of embarassment, self-loathing and physical discomfort.
I wonder how can I not be embarassed and cringing whenever I see Something-CLI.
I just noticed when it's in uppercase I don't cringe as much. I should code a chrome extension to change all CLI abbreviations to upper case.13 -
Is it just me, or are web chatbots actually really annoying and way too intrusive. It's like "omg look guys we have a ChatBot, we can do really cool technical stuff!" If a ChatBot can't ease my oversized heap of depression, I do not want to talk to it.6
-
Ok seriously is Microsoft mining Bitcoin on my computer? If I leave it idle for >5 minutes it starts using intense amounts of CPU and I have no clue why (doesn't show up in task manager, all the processes added up in taskmgr are like 15% max). It's super annoying since I have a razer and high cpu turns on BOTH VERY LOUD FANS.
I checked for malware and stopped any update or useless background tasks (cortana, indexing, etc) and it has not helped one bit. If I click the screen or move the mouse it subsides immediately.
(No, I won't get a mac--I have two and they lacks compatibility with the software I need as well as the specs for what I usually work with)14 -
Dear colleagues. Please use your brain. Don't ask me the same things over and over again. It's really annoying... 😡2
-
Worked on PDF creation in PHP all day. Was really intrigued because I never did that before and learned some new stuff. Nevertheless it's pretty annoying and repetitive to build files in this format. So in the end of the day I can't say if I was productive.4
-
Wisdom tooth is trying to burst through my fucking gum, but it's still less annoying than a friend I have who:
- Constantly posts shitty 'inspiring' quotes on his facebook and tags everyone on his friendlist in 'em.
- Watches motivational speakers and constantly links you up to them.
- Tells you to 'aim higher' or to 'look for a job in a bigger company' or I won't achieve 'the success'.
..bitch, what kind of success have you achieved to tell me what to do with my god damn life?4 -
I quite dislike the fact that Python is growing in popularity. It's a fun toy, but the syntax is so fucking annoying after a while. Forced indentation is certainly not my style. Furthermore, Python is generally not extremely performant, even as far as interpreted languages go.
I love python as a language but using it to work (Like... for money...?) seems very outlandish. It feels akin to scratch to me... very bizzare to think it is powering many complex AIs. Python is a toy.11 -
I label myself as a graphic designer. I can't even make a decent-looking logo for my portfolio. I know I don't need one but it's annoying.3

Ok, so many people rant about windows update. It can fuck up things, starts unexpectedly (after 100 warnings and messages letting you choose when but ok) and it takes too long to update.
I use Windows daily so I update regularly and never takes more than 5 mins. 20 when its a major update twice a year. So let's talk about Linux.
Yesterday I wanted to try out .net core on Linux so I booted my antergos vm to do it. TLDR: Didn't do shut because, surprise, Linux updates.
So apparently I downloaded the wrong version of visual studio code. Uninstall and install the right one then. Nope, can't do that. Some dependency must be updated. That dependency is on the highest version on the AUR, I have to get a different one. Ok, no problem. But I can install the other because uninstalling the original breaks more dependencies. Well fuck then.
So I decided I'd do a full system update with pacman, shouldn't take long. 1.6gb worth of update. I have 200mb download so it should be fast right? Well, I had to wait a couple of hours.
So I couldn't do anything on my afternoon because of Linux updates. That's an original rant isn't it?
And before the comments get here, yeah I know it's arch, it's difficult and all that. This isn't about being hard to do. It's just annoying and making me lose time.3 -
After working for months , I've understood that we should overestimate the time that will be taken to complete a task
But now it's getting annoying , I mean It's been a week I finished my project and am ideal ,
Btw, the project timeline was a week , ( I finished the work in a day ) -
I've been using xfce for months, and just switched to gnome 3.
I used to hate gnome.
But oh my god, it's so much better. There's so many annoying details about xfce that gnome does right.17 -
Building a range of services focused on providing information based on the users location.
It has amazing challenges. Although, I'm stumbling into some highly annoying problems which I don't know how to solve yet, its very awesome to see an idea I had come to life, slowly but surely and also the amount of stuff I learn throughout the process.
Also, it's awesome to see how one can build such services with near zero identifiable information collection!1 -
Answering several emails per day from annoying customers.
Estimating expenditures of possible future projects for offers.
Calls from the management. Calls in general.
People coming into my room in the office (where I sit with 2 other programmers) just to have a call, because it's quieter in this room than in the rest of the office.4 -
After using Rust for a day, my only way to describe it is "cut off a leg to clip a toenail"
So much freedom is removed from the programmer, and you have to account for every single situation, it's kind of annoying for a first timer10 -
So I decided to start using NoScript in Firefox recently, and it's been the most wonderful and annoying experience.
Wonderful - Easy to use whitelist on a domain basis makes it easy to un-break websites I trust while keeping potential malicious JS from other domains out.'
Annoying - Now I get why all the graybeards on Hacker News hate what the modern web has become9 -
I've been programming since 3rd grade.
Sometimes when I was talking to classmates etc. the theme programming came up.
When that was the case many said 'I can program btw' and because I don't know many programmers irl I always was like 'That's really cool! What programming language?'.
And the reply was always either 'Don't know' or 'German' (I am german).
Like wtf, you 'don't know'?
And you should know that 'German' is NOT a programming language.
It is a language, you stupid fuck.
Don't try to flex on me by saying that you can program if you can't even tell me a single programming language.
IF you want to flex, at least learn the names of about 2 or 3 languages and memorize how you can write a hello world program in these languages.
Or really learn programming.
It's like saying 'Hey, I got a really cool PC today' and when someone asks what specs the PC has you reply 'A Samsung Galaxy S9'.
See, it's STUPID and REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING.
So either GO FUCKING LEARN PROGRAMMING or FUCK OFF5 -
This entire google playstore review system is annoying and sometimes useless. Before you download something, you tend to check for the reviews. It's just the way it is. If you see something negative, you tend to have second thoughts of proceeding to download. These muggles think as if they were entitled with anything. "3 stars. I would give you 5 stars IF..." Shut the fuck up, man. No one gives a shit! So you wouldn't give 5 stars because the feature that only you want is not there?2

Co-worker is in his office.
Co-worker whistles continuously "The rains of Castamere" from the Game of Thrones series.
I like Game of Thrones.
I also like the series' score.
But not the way my co-worker interprets it.
Because it's wrong.
Anyway, he whistles.
Sometimes louder, sometimes less so.
It's very out of tune.
It's annoying.
I can't concentrate, let alone code.
Co-worker goes to a meeting.
Silence.
I delete the bullshit I've written earlier.
Then, I get some coding done.
Then, I'm relaxed again.
Then, Co-worker returns.
Now he hums.
It's the same song.
Over and over again.
Again.
It's not that much out of tune, but it's still annoying.
I can't think, I can't concentrate, let alone code.
My thoughts drift to a certain Red Wedding.
I imagine it in vivid detail.
Strangely, it's a happy place right now.
I imagine throwing my screen through two fucking walls.
I don't do it, because the laws of physics are against me.
But the thought is enough.
I'm at peace, again.
... also, I got to leave early today, so I got that going for me which is nice.
(I already had to tell that co-worker *not* to whistle loudly in the cafeteria - you can hear it in a big part of the building. We had some important customers over and Office Management was not amused.)6 -
I feel stupid.
I'm not familiar with any of the new tools we are using and there are so many concepts in web development that I know nothing about. I'm googling the shit out of everything, trying to cram other people's years of experience into my brain, and I feel like I'm annoying my colleagues.
All of a sudden, the compliments feel like "That's a good job for your level of understanding. I lowered my standards for you a long time ago." Yeah, yeah, it's dumb to overthink like that. Every time my manager wants to have a meeting with me, I feel like he's assessing if I'd still be useful in the future or adapting well into the new tools like, "Oh, you're learning too slow. Maybe we have to let you go and hire someone who's been using this and that a long time ago."
Please don't tell me it's impostor syndrome or some shit. I really don't know much about this side of the field and those set of tools. I learned a few during my months of stay here and managed to get my tasks done. I just want to vent because I feel like my team deserves a better developer and I'm trying to be that. I just can't help but wonder if they are better off with someone else.12 -
I started my actual gig as CTO of construction group (Innovation Hub) a year ago. And it was a hell of a ride, implementing kind of a scrum-ban for project management, XP, peer-reviews, a git-flow, git commit message formats, linters, unit testing, integration tests, etc...
And it's the fun part because with the CIO we had to drive the board to do A LOT of changes in their IT/Innovation drive.
But in one year there is a lot of KPI that went up :
* Deployment: When I arrived it took three stressful days to deploy a new version of one application, once a month. Today we do it every week, and it takes three annoying hours.
* We had no test. NOTHING! Today we have 85% code coverage for the unit test, and automatic integration tests run by our CI server every day.
* We had almost no documentation. Today our code is our documentation (it automatically extracted and versioned).
* We had 0 add value in the use of git. With commit messages as "dev", "asked task", inside jokes and a lot of "fix" and "changes". Today we have a useful git, and we even use it to create our deploy changelogs (and it's only mildly annoying!).
* More important, the team is happy! They get their purpose, see betterment in their tech mastery. They started doing conception, applicative architecture, presentations, having fun.
There is still a LOT of bad things we are still working on, and trying to solve (support workflow and betterment). But seeing what they already did, I'm so proud of my TEAM! I'm a fucking asshole, workaholic, "just do it" kind of guy. But they managed to achieve so much. Fucking PROUD!! -
It's annoying when you just want to learn something as quickly as possible but this tutor talks about his cats or random things that distract him that distract me.5
-
C'mon, really?
Okay, I understand that they want to lock down the Chromebooks they send home with us, we don't own them and they have the right to do that. But I'm still annoyed when I find "harmless" stuff is blocked.
They said it themselves that they want us to be able to do basically anything we want web browsing wise on them.
It's not a fun experience to say to your self "hey let's look at the current humble bundles!" just to find that humblebundle.com is blocked for "games". (Which makes sense, but I can't remember any other examples)
Imagine thinking to yourself "I'm going to go to the Os Dev Wiki" and typing that into the Omnibox (tm) and pressing enter, directing you to your favorite search engine duckduckgo, but instead of finding the amazing duckduckgo results page you find the godforsaken securly "THIS PAGE IS BLOCKED" screen.
I can guess why they do that (probably because, to my knowledge, duckduckgo doesn't have any form of "safe-search" feature they can force it to use because they do that) but it's kind of annoying to not be able to use your favorite search engine anymore.
Should I really be getting so annoyed at this? No, because it's not my device, it's theirs and, they have the final say on what goes, but sometimes it really annoys me. I should be, and am, thankful they even let us bring the Chromebooks home, which is pretty cool.
Ugh...
If you want a fun time, just read the reviews on the Securly extension in the chrome web store!6 -
!dev
It's so annoying when people put up cover videos in the name of tutorials and don't even mention what chords they used 😣4 -
Anyone else enjoy "uncropping" images embedded in MS Office documents? People cropping out other windows/tabs from full screenshots... I've seen some weird stuff!
It's not unusual to be sent documentation / screenshots saved as MS Office documents (Word, PowerPoint etc.). Kinda annoying but whatever.5 -
Trying to pay all my bills several months in advance to minimize stress for at least a couple of months and focus on studying, polishing my portfolio, and other hobbies. It's so fucking hot outside, the lines are too long, and the people are.. there. They fall in line and chatter like monkeys possessed by the devil. You'd think the face mask and face shield combination would stop them but no.
Even outside of these transactions, just riding the elevator is annoying, it's the little things like someone standing too close to you when there are literally stickers on the floor on where people should stand to avoid crowding. Pandemic or not, fuck off. Just stay the fuck away from me or anybody. There are five people inside, there's no reason for us to touch. If I wanted your skin on me, I'd wear it.
Now you start gossiping with your BFF and all the juicy details just can't wait until you get off. All that fucking high pitched sound bouncing off the walls of this tiny elevator and hitting the back of my head like a giant gong. There's even a sign at the back of the elevator saying "no talking". When that didn't work, they put the sign in the sides too. Read the fucking clue.
What's the alternative? Pay shit online? Bank websites are often down, generate OTPs a few hours after you need them, or just downright annoying. If your goal is to develop something to add more stress to people, bravo. I guess the only option is to minimize interactions offline or online.6 -
One word rants really .. just piss me off ... like omg ... you can't take the time out to actually have an opinion !
Eclipse ... no that not a rant it's a hateful pies of sh1t which supplies you a default view of code which makes you feel like you are a pirate looking though a portal to an island 10 miles away ..
Soap ... that just the annoying mechanism you will use and and swear at and every time you use it it's different ...
Sql ... that's just something you should learn ... learn it .. it's useful ..6 -
Is it just me or do you guys also have that itchy annoying feeling of wanting to copy certain text on devRant mobile app? 😕
It's like you have that medium level itchiness between your butt just outside your butthole. But you can't do anything because you are in the middle of an interview. That kinda feeling. 😵3 -
Excuse me, can you please tell me which ass-to-mouth fucking moron had this oh-so-damn-stupid idea to take something so un-fucking-believable nice and simple, swallow it entirely just to create that most-ugly stinking pile of darkest shit I've every seen in my live.
Bluetooth.
After paired, it actually never works at first try to connect from notebook or pc, windows or linux. It's just a big annoying pile of utter garbage. FUCK.2 -
How do I get my mom to just fucking leave me alone, learn to just accept no and stop nagging about every tiny little unimportant detail and interrupting me when I'm in the middle of something?
She says is caring... I think it's more like an annoying coworker26 -
If Google hadn't kill Google Play Music, I don't think a single soul would voluntarily switch to it's YouTube Crap Music.
If you remember prior to 2011 the initial plan of Google was to take market away from Apple's iTunes. They initially shipped Amazon music with branded Android OS before the development of Play music.
As a long term user of Play music I'd say "killing the product" was a "bitch move"!
Because Play music is doing really great and you could tell from its reviews and moreover the destination product is quarterly-baked not even a viable replacement in the least sense.
There are more than a million and one problem with YouTube music, currently you would notice your playlist history gets clogged up with your videos when you visit the video web. It's more like the actual YouTube app hiding behind a curtain to mimick a music player. Which is so so stupid and annoying!
As a user all I want from a music player is to fucking listen to music not to watch fucking videos... which makes the app unnecessarily filled with stupid options you never really need.
I understand that monetisation is necessary but please show some fucking courtesy by doing shit with wisdom!15 -
During my university days, we had a basic programming quiz. One of the questions is to "write a program that will determine if a number is even or not".
An annoying seatmate asked me silently if his answer is correct. Then I saw his window:
=========================
> Enter an even number: 10
> The number is even.
=========================
I told him it's correct.
After the test his answer is marked as wrong.
"You told me it's correct!", he said to me.
I approached the professor, and told him that his answer is correct.
"What if I enter 3?", professor said.
I told him, "User Error". -
Can somebody stand behind me with a taser and tase me when I'm not productive.
I have been trying everything but can't get myself to get any work done. Which is stressing me out making it even harder to concentrate.
So I'm hoping the fear of being tasered can scare me into productivity.
The feeling of wanting to work but not being able to is one of the most annoying frustrating feelings in the world. And it's slowly destroying my business.
So anyone got some ideas, I just need to get like a week of work done. But been trying now for 2 months and got like a day of work done.
And has anyone build a fun to do list app yet that is complity gamified maybe I can trick myself in doing more.27 -
Facebook is really annoying !
YouTube is really annoying !
What do they have in common you ask..
Reading messages..
1,000 messages in one thread, someone makes a new comment, can you find it easily, can you fuck !
Facebook sends me a nice little notification, sometimes, and I don't know why, just sometimes, you follow it and it dumps you in the right place, where someone's comment actually is.
Other times, it just dumps you at the beginning of the thread, and then its up to you to open every little sub thread up to find where someone might have replied to one of your messages.
This obviously gets more time consuming the longer the thread is..
Did someone actually design this to be as shit as this, or has no one ever seen it done better !
It drives me a little potty.
It's no use, I'll have to make something better, since no one else is !
It reminds me a little of devRant, when someone likes your comment, but which comment did they like !
I don't even get me started on red flags..9 -
I just remembered an annoying experience I once had,
Wanted to know cli version asap (due to some bug introduced in a certain version):
-v (output: view --help for command)
--version (output: view --help for command)
FUCK
--help (revealed: -version)
Wanted to know it's dependency version:
-version (output: view --help for command)
FUCK
--help (revealed: version)
You could call me lazy for not always typing --help first but there must be a standard for this time sensitive command.1 -
Am I the only one bothered by the way devRant ( and to be fair also Twitter) previews images?
It just kinda crops some unknown up front amount of edges. It's annoying in and of itself, but also directs viewer focus to some arbitrary part of the picture, and you can't unsee it even after opening the whole thing...
Is there really no better way to handle the issue of size? How can that be a good UX ??1 -
Me, at 8 am: The university exams are over, and I'm gonna start programming again. It's great to deal with tasks that are not as annoying as studying!
11 am: -
It's annoying when you're approaching the deadline on two separate projects and the AMs for both think their project is the most important. Leave me alone and let me do my job and both projects will get done, pester me and they won't. Pretty simple concept.3
-
It's so annoying. Whenever you are at a hackathon, every damn team tries to throw these buzzwords- Block chain, AI, ML. And I tell you, their projects just needed a duckin if else.😣
-
Why does it seem like every application these days needs to restart after performing any kind of update or installation? It's even more annoying when you just don't restart then launch the application and everything works fine...
-
For whatever the fuck reason google decided you should not be able to select text when writing a review, at least it's the case right now. Therefore I had to make a guilty screenshot.
Peel remote is successfully nails it to be as annoying as a single application can get and I should consider blocking ads on my phone completely.2 -
Okay, it's getting a bit annoying to _hear_ my graphics hardware (NOT the fans. The circuits) working when I'm doing something on the screen.. Sometimes it feels like it's gonna snap and burst in flames or smth..13
-
GOD FUCKING DAMN IT!!!
so it seems that instead of windows updating and restarting without user consent, now they ask you every few hours to restart your pc and install ''The newest windows features''. It's insanely annoying! And why the fuck am i receiving updates every single day, sometimes even few times a day. This is way more annoying than windows updating itself every now and then.
Get fucked !!!!!! (whoever thought this is a brilliant idea)4 -
Oh well, glad it's not a wk98 rant, just annoying to install and sync the data, this time I am going to do a full image backup after installing the basic things1
-
Don't know if this is just me but I fucking hate it when YouTube move stuff around slightly.
For instance the search bar used to be on the left now it's centered.
I know I'll get used to it but it's kinda annoying.7 -
So, apparently, content entry is front end development.
It's all right there on our old site, just copy and paste it ... Complete with millions of annoying span and font tags you used.2 -
It drives me Insane that AWS still doesn't support Swift 3 for iOS. We're almost to the point where Apple is going to drop Swift 2 support in XCode and Amazon STILL has not gotten it.
I've started deploying Gateway APIs in Objective-C and linking them to the bridging header just so we can finally move foreword in our company and quit relying on legacy Swift support. Which is something I was really trying to avoid because we don't like mixing languages unless absolutely necessary. It's not a problem, but it's incredibly annoying to me. What IS a problem is having to start new projects already using legacy code from the very beginning.
What is amazon going to do when the next release of XCode comes out? Tell all new customers to downgrade?
Why even offer native Swift APIs if you're going to go this long and still not migrate, Amazon?! -
Fucking Windows Servers, I just wanted to set a login timeout of a few minutes after several unsuccessful login attempts.
(Windows Active Directory for Domains and shit is installed - just an FYI (otherwise this would be slightly easier))
Steps:
- Go to Group Policy Management
- Navigate to your domain in a policy tree
- Right click "default policies" and select edit in the right click dropdown.
(Why not just fucking double click and edit it them in the convenient right-side window? Because fuck you!)
- Navigate another god damn policy tree
(And it's not obvious, it's under Windows Settings... Ok that makes sense, but there are so many nests.. Fuck me)
- And only now can you edit the "Account lockout duration" field
Windows Servers are a pain.. This actually isn't completely horrible, but it gets really annoying, because literally everything here is hidden in weird places behind thousands of click navigations and in between that there's some shit sandwhich UX.1 -
I've been working for 6 months now, and the boss tells me he's not satisfied with my work compared to someone that has 15+ years experience. He clearly states that for him - it's more important lines of code, than planning and defining the architecture which he don't like because that doesn't provide anything...
Of course, I can just jump into the code if that is whats important. I've seen the code produced by the other guy, and its shit.
The guy is a talker, and knows how to talk. I'm more like, hey lets create a simple design prototype or do some UML diagrams to get a better visualization of what we need.
Anyway, its just annoying to be compared to someone with many years of experience, its not that I can achieve it overnight...11 -
So my annoying roommate, an upcoming musician & I got into an argument, and although that happens quite often, today was different.
We were talking about 💰, and he said "money is everyone's motivation". I completely disagreed and now I'm bringing it to my fellow ranter's.
I know it's 'a motivation' but is it that big of one?6 -
Most definitely not dev related..
Guitar tabs that contain arrangements for +5 guitars on a band with just a rythm and lead guitar are fucking annoying.
Fucking hate having to piece the fucking melody by myself. And yes. I DON'T neeed the fucking tabs since I can figure the song by ear, its just that doing it like that takes way too much fucking time.
Getting fucking bored of playing the guitar tho. Been doing it since I was very young and never really liked it. Always wanted violin and then bass.
Have been looking at a nice fender precision bass. Made in Mexico so not really expensive, sounds equally as good and is going for a good $650 bucks plus the amp.
No lie, i am way too interested on getting me that bass already. Have been learning Roundabout by Yes(because I am a progressive rock fan AND a Jojo fan) and practicing with a friends bass whenever I get the chance.
If you already play guitar and you are good with guitar then picking up the bass takes some adjustment, but it's still not as heavy as going at it with no musical training.
Man I just want a bass so bad. I am just so cheap at spending money.13 -
The internet at large is annoying me.
I just signed up for the payback card through Rewe. Cool idea. It's a German points card, and I have an American phone. Play store tells me the app isn't available in my country, and I don't see it on fdroid.
Anyone have suggestions for a reliable apk site to get this from?8 -
So recently i got a message from aa person asking how to (these are exact words) ,
:break into insta's database using Sqlmap"
I then proceeded to tell them to "f*ck of ya c*nt ".
Afterwords it inspired me to write this rant
annoying classmates:" hahaha GuYS bEtER wAtcH OuT he's GonnaA hack Us"
me: " yea I can program I also do some ethical hacking and cybersecurity "
annoying classmates: "hahaH Bro your a Hacker OhHHhHHOOO BrO CaN yoU hACk inSta FoR mE I NEEd MoRe FolloWeRs "
me:" tf no one that's illegal and two it's waste of my time "
annoying classmates: "BrOooo CaN yoU gEt Me SoMe HacKs fOr CsGo"
me: "can you just please f*ck off , i'm not hacking for you everything you've asked me is extremely unethical and a huge waste of time, Also if you suck so bad at a game you need to cheat I recommend just stopping "
annoying classmates: "DUdE whAt ToolS dO i HVAE to DownLOad To Be A haCkEr"
me: *trying hard not to murder them* " I told you to f*ck off"
being a hackers isn't downloading tools it isn't typing at 90wpm into a terminal with green font its not about games or fame or anything its about coming up with creative solutions to problems , thinking outside the box its about individuality and breaking from the heard , looking at things from a different viewpoint,
it's about endlessly seeking knowledge.
It's about freedom though creation that's what being a hacker originally was. But because of big media and movie company's (and script kiddies) people now confuse hacker with cracker and think of us as jobless fat kids sitting in a dark room in there parents house breaking into bank accounts and buying drugs on the dark web (which people see to think there a hacker just because they can open tor browser. they then proceed to use google to look up "fresh onion links 2020") .
My classmates and really my generation has a huge case of smooth brain. They a think we can just look at someone and hack them they also seem to think using a gratify link to get a persons up is hacking and using the inspect element is hacking and that opening a terminal is hacking ! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Anyways ima end this here thanks for reading :)6 -
fuck!
When your hard drive crashes, and the most annoying thing you forgot to save is the color/syntax theme on your favourite editor.
(I'm canadian... favourite, not favorite, shutup red squiggly)
fuck!
45 minutes scrolling between color schemes in sublme.. none of them seem right.
Maybe it's monokai? I think...
or was it oceanic
FUCk!
oh well at least it looks like I'm working.1 -

Pokémon go is fun, but it's not great.
Doesn't everyone think that it would be better to actually battle for your Pokemon's level?
They could perhaps keep a similar evo system (Everytime you fight you get like 1 poke candy)
This catch and release system is getting kind of annoying in my opinion.
I want to get attached to my Pokemon and actually feel like a trainer, not a garbage disposal for Pokemon.
They already have a battle mechanic, they would just need to enable ai battle algorithms and ambient encounters.

Ever had a client that emails you and then calls you if you received the email? I think it's understandable since most of us don't send a return receipt or whatever that's called.
But have you had a client message you on WhatsApp or equivalent that shows that you have read the messages and yet calls you to confirm if you have received the messages? 🙋
It's getting annoying really fast8 -
I have a medical condition where my palms sweat too much. I can't use touchscreens for a very long time. I really hope there is a product that makes touchscreens hyper sweat friendly. It's annoying and embarrassing. :/3

We have a univeristy internal gitlab. Ok.
My work place uses the official github. Great. No problem.
Now for another work related project, we got access to the gitlab of an institute which is at the same university....
Why the fuck do we have to use their gitlab now also? I've got 3 different git accounts now. It's just unecessary and annoying... -
So I just finished writing my first Code Style/Standards documentation. I guess for now it's more just for me to figure out what annoying things I want changed but wanted to get everyone's opinion and thoughts.
I think this is safe to post as nothing company specific.

Ok, so I have been lurking around here for a while now. Not at all knowing what to rant about. I like my work, I don't have to deal too much with annoying (or almost any at all) customers and all in all I feel fine.
However, I feel like I want to, in some way step into this awesome community in other ways than just comments and ++.
So this post will be about a book. It's almost our Bible. Well it's probably the closest thing to a proper part of the trilogy we will get.
And for not being written by Douglas Adams (the almighty) himself; this book is surprisingly good! If you haven't, and get your hands on it, do read it!3 -
Every side project I have ever started ever.
I get so close to finishing then stop it's so god damn annoying -
Anyone else's bosses constantly spies on you at work? it's f***** annoying. I know I am the only minority at the job, but goodness get off my back.

Tldr; Do not go to the bathroom when you are stuck on a problem.
Most of you will know that when you are stuck on a problem for a while, that it is worth to take a break to look at the problem with a fresh pair of eyes.
It's good advice and I have been doing it for years, however now I have developed a problem with it.....
I don't drink coffee or tea often so when I'm stuck I always take a bathroom break and most of the time an Idea will pop into my head how to solve the problem.
The problem now is that everytime when I am even a little bit stuck I need to go to the bathroom even when I just went.
It's really annoying because now I need to find something else to use as a break because my brain has associate being stuck with needing to go to the bathroom.
It's probably not a good idea to take a coffee break instead because if my brain starts to associate that I will be a coffee addict in no time.... Haha
Do any of you have a good suggestion to use as a break?8 -
Happy New Year From Singapore!
In this year,
May all the Devs out there be able to code peacefully everyday without being disturbed by that annoying coworker.
May all the Devs out there be able to get clients who understand our pain.
May all the Devs out there be able to work on the projects that they love while getting paid proper amount.
Cheers! Love live devRant and it's community.1 -

Why do you get so fucking full so damn fast when you're drunk. It's really fucking annoying.

I did a backup of my computer on a new harddrive. I know it's on me for not checking this, but how difficult it could be for the software to check if there is enough space on the hd for the whole backup BEFORE starting it, instead of in the middle of it?? 😥

Have you become a replacement tool doing manual and menial IT work to bridge the lack of a proper IT process and streamlining?
I've worked for such companies and it's super annoying.. companies that zip projects to Google Drive instead of using a VCS.. not even having a drawing board or proper office chairs.. not even a cafeteria.. companies using Subversion instead of Git, no project management systems nor software, no JIRA, shit written down on printed paper,.. the list goes on.
A nightmare, really. Like developing in the 90's..3 -
I have a really slow machine and it's running Ubuntu, so annoying. I launch VS Code and Chrome, 30mins in and it fkn hangs, then I have to hard reboot.2

Youtube UX on iPhone. Fucking annoying! In fact google or alphabet have completely disengaged with the user on virtually everything. It's not a game, people have to actually use this shit.2

It's really annoying when you're watching a tutorial video and the person speaks much faster than he can type.
1.5x speed and the guy manages to type a single line of <p> tag and has like spoken 30000 sentences. -
In SQL Management Studio, why is the Identity Specification so low in the column properties list?! It's so annoying to scroll and find it.
Is this punishment for using the GUI?1 -
So, due insanely annoying youtube algo, I just wanted to listen related music to given author - not really what I usually listen to. You know the youtube drill, it's suggestion feed sucks hard.
So I kick in incognito, my typical workaround and wait a second... it prompts me to check out youtube music (didnt know its a thing) and well, well, well... It's actually pretty nice. And solves my suggestion feed problems.
Nice. I have no idea when they deployed that but it's lookin preetty nice (at first glance) and dosent use as much bandwidth. Sweet, exacly what Dubby needed.
(said person who dislikes spotify cuz 60% of music I listen to is just not there) -
I've come to realize that when I get annoyed, it's usually because my lack of tolerance that is the problem. Annoying co workers is the perfect self improvement tool.1

It's bloody annoying when the hardest part of your program is to integrate with an external API with confusing documentation.3

Aaaaarggghhh
Having to think about what and when to eat is such a fucking pain in the ass. I don't want to search for recipes. I don't want to think about nutrition. I don't want to count calories. I just want something to tell me exactly what to eat, when I should eat and what to buy. Same goes for workout routines. Just tell me what to do I'll do it. I want an autopilot for that sort of stuff so I don't have to ducking think about it anymore. It's such a giant waste of time to have to manually plan this shit through, I want to use my brain for other things like math or chemistry or Programming. In fact I don't even want to cook because I am alone and cooking for one person is so ducking pointless. I lost over 40kg in the last years. I learned my lesson, most things taste like shit now because I associate food with all the pain and depression that I had to overcome to achieve a normal weight and fit body. Food went from being a joy to being an annoying necessity. I got fit and I want to work out even more but I really don't want to think about this shit. The exercises and pain and hunger are all nothing but planning is my true enemy. It bores me to death, it's more painful than running until I break down I absolutely fucking hate it.
I am really close to start some kind of open source food planner where you can type in your goals ( weight loss, muscle gain etc.) In great detail with all kind of options ( vegetarian, vegan, allergies, budget, country where you live in for local recipes etc.) And it generates a food plan for you with exact details of where exactly to buy the ingredients how to cook them etc. No fancy Ui No bullshit ads for some kind of wonder drug nothing annoying. Something so easy that it can be used as an autopilot for ones fitness and life. Do what it says and you'll look decent, don't think about the rest. Having that would be so great and I could finally think about more important shit than this. Less overhead more time for things that can't be automated.
And Yes I know that this is exactly what a personal trainer would do, but I am not going to spend 600€ a month for someone to tell me exactly what to buy, what to eat and how to work out.26 -
How many sh*t days does it need to make me down?
3 ...
I hate my company, for making everything overcomplicated and annoying.... I have to discuss with 3 peoples for 3 days to getting some gitlab premium licenses (20$ per month for 10 licenses)... Why do you need it? Why we can't use the free version? Why Why Why... It's not enough to tell them it will save us much times and improves the quality of development.....
Also I wanted to ask if we can to Jaxb or another Dev Conference this year... Then I got the information that we have about 2000 Euro for 10 people for training.......... What should we do if everyone buys a book this budget is out .... f*ck company....
Second day, half of the day was taken for fixing the live db on the fly cause of a bad structure of tables... at least fixed some other inconsistence too... later the day fixed a freaking shitty bug with Spring Devtools and 2 Classloader to make the product that I'm presenting in 2 days running.
Today next shitty day with discussion that everything I did last half year (introducing Microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka and other DevOps things) could be maybe useless when the external company will say that they use another ecosystem -..- for their microservices...
Someone looking for a disappointed java developer? I just want to develop the best product ever... I'm happy with every area... Frontend, Backend, DevOps, Fullstack, Architect in some kinds depends on the wishes and technologies.1 -
Does anyone else get triggered when you use the python socket .recv() and the server does not return anything so the program just stays there indefinitely? For me, I can't even Ctrl+C it so I have to close the entire window. It's especially annoying when I start a server in the interpreter (quite a bit of lines) and I have to rewrite it afterwards.7

Is Skype the most fucking annoying software on this planet? How do they manage to fuck it up on every release even more? Currently it most of the time just is not sending the stuff you write in the chat. It's just loading for ever and you need to write it again...8

Every day about anything. Why are people so annoying?3 -
Learning information security yet again after doing multiple information security things for company and manager is pushing to do it saying "due immediately" and they're after sending "a number of emails" (it's due in a month and they sent 1 email).
Annoying that these things must be done again and again just because someone in sales let something slip or left their journal behind like a dumb dumb. It's not like I'm never off-site with my stuff or I interact with customer(s) yet1 -
Jenkins' triggerManualBuild randomly but if so then consistently produces 500 errors for certain newly created jobs. I haven't really found a pattern, yet I was bit by it in the past already. I used to "solve" it by deleting the offending job and re-creating it.
Now, I have this annoying issue again, and no matter how often I re-create that shitty one-liner job in the pipeline, it won't trigger. (The job itself is fine. It's the actual trigger that is broken.)
It's not like it's important or anything, as this is basically only the "push to production" step.
FML. And fuck me for stating: "Creating a delivery pipeline should be straightforward. I therefore consider 1 storypoint enough."4 -
- ok so I said I had to touch little bit of nodejs. It's a messenger like chatroom. Users data and the rest are stored in mysql. Chat messages are stored in mongodb. Found a funny issue. (Funny as in annoying that you just bang your head with your head while laughing funny) one mysql query in the node app is giving different order by result when you run it. I thought it was async issue. Turn out it's not. Said query works fine when running on phpmyadmin and the likes.
- I watched end game yesterday. And I'm sad. It's an end of an era. But also hopeful for various possibilities Marvel can do for future films.

I hate power outages. It just went out for all of 5 seconds, but it was long enough to shut down my computer. Fortunately Android studio probably caught all but the last couple seconds of my changes but it's still annoying.1

Sometimes angular can be really damn annoying with it's "Error handling".
When just one component has an error (For example using an non-existent form-control) it'll not only crash the component like it should, but the entire app.
whyyyyy do you do this to me -
Spent days telling people what to do. What the database fields should look like, went down to every little bit, which was annoying because I hired them to think for themselves.
Spent a couple days verifying this and that. "Is this field really needed?"
Of course it's needed, otherwise why would it be in the specs? It took me two fucking days to communicate on these things they could have just done in half an hour.
They do it wrong. It's been clearly outlined and it's still wrong.
Management then insists on more communication so things don't go wrong. We have meetings every day to discuss what must be done. Every other day we have meetings between another project leader to discuss what we just discussed. Every two days we have progress report meetings.
We spend 70% of the time communicating now and everyone still gets everything done wrong. This is why you have to be really, really careful when hiring. Technical interviews can just be giving someone a spec and seeing whether they can do it. -
Netstat says that that windows is listening on port 445, but nmap (run from another machine on the same network) says that it's closed. Also the firewall is completely disabled. It's very annoying that I can't use network shares and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?10
-
Heard nothing back from an interview I attended 3 weeks ago. I'm sure this sort of thing is common, but it's never happened to me before.
It's so shitty and unprofessional.
The interview was a joke anyway, bouncing between business questions (strictly non-technical, as I learned that one of the interviewers thought Bootstrap and JS were the same), a written test for a Junior (testing to see if you knew arrays started at 0), then random technical questions which didn't allow me to prove what I could actually do.
So what the fuck are you recruiting for here, a business person, Junior, Mid or Senior developer?!
Total fucking bullshit.
Surely the best way to test a candidate is to let them try to fix a recent bug from your app?
Annoying because I know I can do the job.
Fuck you and your shitty fucking questions. -
Hey, you, my new colleague, you are annoying. I have reviewed your PR and left about 50 comments on your mess. I even explained to you why half of your code is shit in a very polite way. I have explained why you have to rewrite that and even how to do that in the best way possible. Result? Half of the code is gone, it works as before but without the overhead.
Now you're annoying cuz I have to go again on conventions and best practices. I totally understand that you've been doing it differently and throwing buzz words at me won't help. Just stop and do it as it's needed in this project, don't reinvent the wheel only because you can.
You know what? Fuck it! I'll approve all your PRs, anyway I am leaving soon. There is no benefit for me to teach you stuff. You're one of those guys that I voted against in interviewing process. But guess what? My manager decided to hire you anyway! Ha! I rarely vote NO and you were a one of those...
Your confidence doesn't impress me. That works on people that have no clue on what you are doing. Your just average at best, not a superstar.
Fuck it, you're on your own now!1 -
Client wants me to document the updated patch in the system... In detail. I just want to upgrade their server memory but noooooo. They want me to detail it all in step-by-step, including change impact, description task, expected time duration, back-out plan.
The first time I had to do this, it was cute. But now it's FUCKING ANNOYING ON HOW DETAIL THEY WANT ME TO PUT IN!!!
Client: "OK, so you wanna upgrade the server memory. What do you need to bring into the data centre?"
Me: "Just my laptop. I'm just configuring your underutilised server memory and upgrade it."
Client: "Good. Put that in the document, including your laptop serial #, make and model."
Me: *Screaming internally* -
This whole GDPR, cookie law thing is really getting annoying.. Every website you load:
A wild large popup dialog appears, reasons this and that, options this and that, click next, are you sure, yes, yes,..
The dialog itself is annoying, but it's even more annoying if it pops-up 10 seconds after you've already scrolled and are reading stuff.
Am I the only one who didn't care that I got tracked and whatnot and analytics stuffs were stored etc?2 -
I've got a user who keeps asking for weekly updates on a project I'm on and my pm is supposed to interface with them and give them the status. But my pm comes back to me like "so everything is good right?"
When we just talked last week about how it's not and I still have work stoppages. I have status updates written in our ticket tracker for him and he has tons of emails explaining the issue but he always forgets what the status is anyway!
Jesus, having to keep reminding someone of something when the information is right out there for them to grab quickly and easily is bloody annoying. He just neglects this one project! I'd cut out the middleman but I need him because I don't know enough about business rules to make decisions or ignore concerns that crop up in my planning!2 -
Weekly drama call 1.
(the number reflects the devrant broadcast count not the actual count).
We work with a remote team and the project manager there just loves to talk. It started as something adorable(?) but it's just plain annoying now. He keeps on talking and talking and talking. We just muted him, had a good laugh and missed nothing. Nobody has any idea when he'll stop.

Why Windows 10 sucks so bad if you try to use it with taskbar on top?! Like every window behind the taskbar. It's annoying!1

I'm trying out Picolisp. Cool, I think, an OpenGL library. I'll try the example program.
(Clicks mouse on program window)
(A wild SIGILL appears!)
Two hours later, still trying to figure out why it's doing that, with Google and DuckDuckGo returning no helpful results whatsoever. This is very annoying.2 -
Second Rant incoming!
I have a Elephone p9000 (China Smartphone). Great Value for it's price if you don't mind a shit camera.
Also, this is actually my second model! I cracked my screen and tried to replace it. Somehow I managed ti puncture the battery and nearly set my house on fire but that is another story.
This rant is about how the sd/sim-card read is FAILING ME! Everytime I call someone, my sim-card ejects spontaneously, thus ending the call. It's so goddamn annoying having to recall the same person every two minutes...
I tried inserting the sim-card in the other slot because it has dual sim but nothing changed...guess I need a new Phone. FML3 -
I was working on an annoying bug in my genetic algorithm for about two hours when i realised it's late and decided to call it a night. Turned off my pc, shut everything down. Just as I was brushing my teeth I got enlightened by the code gods and suddenly i knew exactly how to fix the bug. Toothbrush in hand i booted the whole system again and successfully fixed it in 2 minutes.
Thank you code gods, i may now sleep in peace.1 -
If you ever wondered how to write a really bad commit message, here are some of my colleague's...
1. -
2. fixed conflict
3. initail push
4. css fix
5. amends to css
6. footer
And then a ton more hyphens. I wouldn't care as much if the code he wrote actually worked. But when it's down to his colleague's to fix his god awful code, it makes it a tad annoying trying to trawl through useless commit messages trying to find where he dun goofed. /rant7 -
Every time I move the cursor in a file or press alt+tab I hear bed springs squeaking. It's getting annoying :/7

Finally decided to work on my kernel update script a bit (basically I compile the mainline kernel and configure it to slim it down a ton for my laptop, and that gets annoying so I wrote a script to do it for me). As of right now it is functional, it MAY require some babysitting, cause sometimes shit goes wrong, but it hasn't given me any problems the last few times I've run it. But it's also written with Arch in mind (using linux-mainline AUR package), because I use Arch btw. At some point in the future I want to add support for other distros, but I also want to get everything functional on Arch first.
If anyone has any suggestions or anything:

So I bought this HP laptop about a year ago thinking HP was actually reliable. But oh boy was I wrong. The fucking screen cracked within the first 2 months, because of a small drop from a table, even while it was in my backpack. And the plastic casing is flimsy. It's only been a year, and it's already slowing down because of, what I'm almost positive is age. I've been careful not to do or download anything that might give it a virus. And this thing is supposed to last me another 2 years till college. And, it's fan is the most annoying thing ever. It'll run even if I'm not doing anything super demanding like browsing the internet with only a couple tabs. I'm not one of those people who usually have a ton of tabs open. What's worse is that it's the only machine I have to code with. The school chromebooks are complete shit, and I avoid them at all costs, my cs class has PC's to use but I can only use them during school hours.9

There have been a few :)
If say it's a videos utter project I initially though was good. Apart from loading a view the controllers didn't do anything - my initial thought was some magic was happening behind the scenes.
However, when I opened up the view things changed.
ALL the business logic happened in the view. Everything. Form processing, consuming an app, file uploads, validation, crud ... You name it, it happened in view. The developer created a raw MySQL connection and build his queries by concatenation g strings, the whole system was wide open to sql injection.
Even more annoying was the "source control" he invented. Every file had several copies. I.e. "User(working).php", "user_v3.php" and even "user(working_no_profile_fields_1.php". It wasn't even like there was any consistency in what file was actually used either. A complete mess. The system had around 69 screens too. No idea how the developer got that gig.2 -
Xamarin is, hands down, the most annoying fucking thing I've worked with. Like more annoying than windows crashes and random fucks asking me to hack shit.
I am so tired and frustrated, after every work day. It's like I'm trading bug for bug.6 -
Post a rant and apologize cause he's using windows. What the heck is wrong with people here ? This trend is so annoying. Stop it you sheeps you have no reasons to love or hate any OS just following others to look cool. It's not cool unless you're in middle school. And those same guys mock apple fan boys the truth is you're no different. "Yours is shit coz mine iz z best".6

You know what I hate? The periods close to a new release. It's that annoying time that managers start heaving impatiently to developers: "Push out new hotfixes! Push out new hotfixes!". Fuck you, man. Don't stress a developer. Kthx. If you think developing is so easy, come do it yourself, you IT-ignorant buffoon.1

Started reading Learn C the hard way by zed a Shaw and I can't figure out why my make file won't work, it's so darn annoying and I've like gone over each character and still no success1

Im taking an AP class for Java at my school. (AP is like an honors class). But there is an standardized test throughout the US that everyone takes. But it's so annoying because you are not allowed computers on the test so you have to HANDWRITE all of your code. So the way we "practice" for the test is in our class is we use a buggy ass program called greenfoot which is worse than writting in notepad because it crashes every 5 mins but only on Windows computers and since I go to a school and everyone it a retarded they all have Macs so my Windows laptop is a "non issue" like wtf. So now I just use intelij and tell the teacher to fix it but our school has a code where teachers are not allowed to touch laptops so he's just stuck right now.
Forgot to mention that the reason why we use greenfoot is because there is no auto fill features not even closing brackets automatically which "makes us learn better".
Also all of our tests are hand written which is annoying.3 -
Why I cannot add picture in comments or edit comments from desktop browser but only from the app? it's really annoying :(
@dfox1 -
Only upgraded a library by one MINOR version (0.24.0 to 0.25.0) then my tests going all RED! And it's google.
Yea so I just pin my requirements.txt to previous version.
Non backward-compatible library is so annoying.2 -
Why do devs automatically become the ones who can apperantly repair not working printers? Seriously, a friend of mine wrote to me today like I can actually do something without seeing it first. I'm not saying I can't do something about them but I don't want to because it takes time, and I would have to see it irl, it's so fucking annoying.6

Not see any windows vista or older machine come in for repair. It's too annoying explaining that I don't support old shit.

So, I browse to a video livestream and an annoying ad starts before the livestream is shown. Furthermore, the page jumps around because of a cookie notification that also blocks some UI elements at the top.
Note: this is the website of a public (government-paid) national news website with very high standards and a good reputation.
Action 1: refresh page; I hope the ad is skipped. Nope, annoying ad restarts. Page jumps around again because of the cookie notification.
Action 2: accept cookies to remove notification blocking the top UI (it's OK, I know it can't actually save any cookies on my machine). Instead of some nice JS doing it for me in the background, the page refreshes because you know, HTTP requests and whatnot.
Annoying ad restarts again... FML 🤬
Lessons to be learned from this for any web dev: these annoyances can and *will* exponentially get worse if used simultaneously against your users, instead of being used to help or inform your users.
As a user of you website, I want to watch a livestream. I don't care what stupid legislation forced you to shove a fucking cookie notification in my face. Make sure it is not annoying me to the point that I close you website and take minutes to rant about it!
Also, give me the freedom of choice to watch an ad or not. You and I both know that some ads simply are not for me. Better save yourself and myself the bandwidth.
And go get good at web development. You're a news site. That's more than just text and images. If you want great apps, social media coverage, videos, live streams, blogs, etc. go get some better web devs. Your current web frontend devs only qualify to get fired.1 -
There are contractors in office to take out garbage (devices, boxes etc) that we'd put away last week as part of spring cleaning
Now they're doing it on premises ...
Sound of metal, boxes, clutter, breaking this and that. This is quite annoying and hard to bear

Can we just decide that we stop using 2 spaces as indents. I really don't have a big preference with tabs versus spaces (especially with modern editors it really doesn't matter that much) but can we please for the love of God stop using 2 spaces! It's ridiculous, it's impossible to read and to understand what goes where, especially with HTML where it's important to grasp the structure of the page. Another annoying thing is when newbies use 2 spaces, since it's visually hard to make out an indent the file usually becomes completely messed up and even harder to read and work with. So can we as devs just come together and wipe 2 space indention from the face of the Earth and decide to newer use them again!8

It's so annoying to set up a vm and oracle DB. Just when you think that you are done with recreating a schema from schema dump, four packages won't compile. And of course they are wrapped and it's the most generic malformed or corrupted wrapper unit error...
-
Today my teacher said to not even touch our PC's because we can destroy them... It's not like we're already 18 and he's supposed to teach us how to use and repair them because the school subject is called "exploitation of computer technology devices". Also he said we can use books while exams so I wasted my time on learning where is every option in kmail, hopefully there was more questions about terminal and FTP... (I wanted to pass this exam with my own knowledge to learn anything and there's my 100%). This guy is so annoying :/4

I'm slowly realizing how much goofy code I put in my branch and overlooked. This code review is going to be interesting...
Some examples:
import plots as lel
<h4 id="title">Crunchatize Me, Captain! </h4>
go.Scattergeo(name="cheese", ...)
webster = { ... }
The commit messages are even worse.
- 'horizontalize' link list
- very messily hack in <feature>
- partially refactor some of the awful code from previous
- Remove one annoying space
- make background color less annoying
- remove seemingly useless property
- minor fix
- Apparently it's possible to center a DIV. Who knew?
- Made some cool bar graphs
And then there's just a bunch of reverts.2 -
Installing C++ libraries. There's no standardised system to download a library and link it's headers into my project as of now, so I generally end up symlinking its headers into an include directory, which can be very annoying.5

Got mixed feelings about dart/flutter 😕
On one hand, I find it very easy to work with and very fast for prototyping. Everything is smooth once you compile it.
On the other hand, I keep running into weird as shit bugs and missing functionality. The bugs are primarily related to iOS, so that might not entirely be their fault. Last one required me to delete the entire project and rebuild it, the clean command didn't work shit.
It's quite annoying that so many features are missing, but I guess that's life, when you try to work with a multi platform language...2 -
I have so much to rant right now. So much. Life is pretty much a tight rope walk right now.
But the project I'm working on right now is annoying. I've ten days to release. It's a website on WordPress. They want complex animated crap using GSAP that fucks readability in the ass. I don't even know how to do animations. I don't JS damn it. Apparently readability is not what we want. We want attention grabbing. It's a fucking government initiative website for crying out loud. Why not put a carousel with my curated list of porn then? They also want the pages to be build using blocks of modules on a page builder so that the client can produce new pages without our help. I still don't have the final designs even. When I asked for the mobile designs, they told me to "just make it look not broken". Uggh.
They spent three weeks making some shit on Squarespace and now they expect me to finish the entire fucking thing with the slutty animations, disgusting text sizes and fucked up designs sense and symmetry in pretty much a week.
And the fucking fuck faced poopy pant regional manager had the balls to tell me I'm not being undersold if I accept his measly offer for a permanent position with a salary less than a 6k per year than what people in my school usually get. -_-5 -
AAAARGHH!!! It happens every now and then that when I open a window in a Windows application, the window opens outside the display area, on a non-existing display to the right of my primary screen. There is no other way to access the newly opened window than to go to "Screen resolution" and swap screens 1 and 2 such that the secondary screen thinks it is to the right of the primary screen (although physically it stays to the left of the primary screen). And then, once I've got hold of the window, I swap the screens back. It's just so incredibly annoying and a complete waste of time. This is staring to really get on my nerves! >:(8

When my boss can't figure out how to fix something, he'll tell me to do it. It's annoying because he "works" on the issue for months and by the time I get it, I only have a few hours until I get off work but he needs it done by the end of the day

People that call you, get to voicemail and, instead of leaving you a message (especially if it's something important), just hang up.
Why is it so hard for people to just leave a message saying “Hi, I'm ${PERSON} and I'm calling you because of ${REASON}, to let you know that ${WHATEVER}. Please call back”?
I don't know if it's like that in your respective countries, but here in Spain people seem to have a phobia of leaving voicemails and it's fucking annoying.3 -

Not really a rant but..
I'm really into programming. My problem is that i dont know what to do. I know the basics of a few languages like C++, Java, Python, HTML(+CSS), js but i want to start doing some more advanced stuff. I just don't know where to start.
What im trying to say is that im not a complete noob. It's just really fucking annoying when you want to start working on something but you dont know what or you come up with an idea that you abandon later because you can't turn it into a complete project.
Any help would be appreciated.12 -
I hate Intellij Idea but it's best option available to develop in Scala. Improvements in VSCode/Metals is my last hope.
The (few) things I NEED from Intellij:
* Very good autocompletion
* Refactoring tools (renaming, auto imports)
* Search tools (find usages, sub/super-types)
The (many) things I hate of Intellij:
* Layout with panel sizes doesn't behave properly and it scales instead of remaining fixed.
* Tedious 2-hands shortcuts makes the right hand to move a lot from the mouse
* Delays and lag in the UI, freezes on garbage collection
* High memory consumption, high CPU usage and generally slow and cumbersome
* The delay in the UI between commands is so that it's accidentally possible to introduce typos
* Can't move tabs around and organize them as I like
* Ugly font rendering and missing typography settings
* Multi-caret implementation as a different editing mode is annoying because requires frequent switching
* Unnatural code folding regions, why method arguments are not folded with the method?
* Unhelpful support forum, sometimes dismissive answers
* Highlighting of current word under the caret doesn't work
* Very slow editor, can't keep spacebar pressed to move text or it hangs!
* Several settings reset at every update. Like the auto fetch of git
* New features are added and enabled by default which is very invasive
* Some of the features mentioned above are really annoying and it's not possible/not trivial to disable them
* It uses its own compile and several times it highlights false positives7 -
Is there any multi server monitoring software that doesn't open a port for itself? I am about to just write one, but it's fucking annoying that theres nothing like it out there, where you just install a service per server, that uploads its data (cpu, ram etc) to a central server without opening itself to the whole fucking internet.6

LINUX MASTERS, I can't believe that linux didn't get rid off yet of the annoying user:group system.
Anyway, I have two pre-existing groups(postgres & www-data), now I need to enable both groups full access to an HD for data storing, currently the owner of /media/"user"/DATA is www-data but I need to enable the postgres group to operate in it.
I seached around and can't get around how to accomplish this, if it's even possible.

I've always had this in the back of my head, and off lately it's eating me alive.
Why don't we just rename python3 to python and Python to python2?
no I'm not gonna alias it in my shell. I'm talking about renaming them in all the distros.
there've been talks about renaming python3 to python and marking it as the default for quite long, but nothing has come of it yet.
I get that a lot of shit is gonna go down if this happens rn, systems breaking, migrations, panic, a lot of systems still working on python2 but we need to migrate.
we've also been hearing a lot of speculation about "Python 4", from earlier this year.
WHAT IS HAPPENING UGHHHH
pls revolution now7 -
Was absent minded this whole day, sorry if my answers took long / were out of context @ the meetup.
I was poking why a bona fide DB import didn't work...
VARCHAR(254) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci GENERATED ALWAYS AS (LOWER(...)) VIRTUAL
MySQL 5.7 to MariaDb 10.5 ...
After long hours of poking:
https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/...
Yeah. It's the COLLATE statement. *narf*
I love SQL, but god damn it this stupid fscking frigging dumb platform and version specific behaviour is fucking annoying.
sed -Ei 's|COLLATE.*GENERATED|GENERATED|g' helps. Just takes a bit of time on an 75G sql dump. -.-
Took only 4.5 hours to find out.
But now test suites are crunching, looking good til now.... *sigh*2 -
It's really annoying when u focusing on one task, and everything is planned and scheduled properly. And then Ur boss come in and assign u another task again, endless side project.1

Is it just me who thinks that the "insert" key is the most useless and annoying key piece?
It's beside backpack, I accidentally press it. I really haven't found any uses for it so far...5 -
So I'm a fullstack Python Dev & I wanted to learn Django Rest Framework so I can ease into making PWA. I figured let me learn it as I build out an MVP for a web app I'm creating...WRONG! This shit is mega annoying! It's taken much much more time than i'd like just to set up User sign up and sign in using a form based on the serializers. I started this project Friday....I still have no forms 😭😭...If i just had used Regular Django Models/Forms, an Ajax call here and there i wouldve been done!! What makes it worse is I feel I'm legit the only person having these issues...sheesh4

Rant about other people ranting about people ranting about Microsoft/GitHub, you really need to stop telling people about what they're allowed to rant about, your rants about other people's rants are taking over devRant and it's annoying as hell!
We get it, you're against people ranting about certain topics, but at some point you've got to move on.
(How meta can we get?)5 -
For those of us OCD Sheldon Cooper types out there, programming can get very annoying.
For example, I want to do everything as efficient as possible but sometimes situations require "live with it" or "quick and dirty" solutions, which grinds my teeth because I'm not applying perfection in everything and a laid back attitude is against my personality, much like Sheldon. It's the same annoyance as when Penny knocks twice but not thrice at the door.
This sure is easier for brogrammers.4 -
Does anyone have dual boot Linux/ Windows and also have problems with the slow-ass periodic updates Windows shoves down your throat, needs to do multiple restarts for, but gets stuck at the grub bootloader?
It's really annoying the next time you need your PC quickly you're forced to standby for 2 hours.10 -

I'm really beginning to hate css3 and all the new WebKit style effects. They are literally making loads of sites unusable imo.
Why, every time a page loads, does everything need to slowly animate/transition in. It's sooooooo annoying.
It's nearly as bad when Jquery first made it easy to fade events in.
I'm such a fan nowadays of I fussy websites where the content just displays.6 -
I just learned about FRP (Factory Reset Protection) yesterday.
Didn't know that was a thing and while it's annoying it's also quite clever.3 -
I tried to make some SP using the syntax and formatting that visual studio outputs when making a SSRS report. I thought it was nice.
It formats the code in a standard way and transforms stuff like "join" to "INNER JOIN" and "left join" to "LEFT OUTER JOIN ".
When the team reviewed the code they were like WTF?! This syntax is horrible, it can't be understood. You did this?
*Me with my red face*...
I just said. You know what? I am going to go back to the old school syntax if you prefer. I just thought it was better.
Yeah... You really should go back to old school syntax.
---
Keep in mind that the old school syntax is annoying to me... No formatting at all and basic instructions are not in larger upper case.
Anyway, I thought it was nice tbh. I still think it is. And it is definitely better to me in some way.
What bothers me most is that they want to improve their coding. They say they want to be more standard and it seems every time you want to make a change it's not a good idea because "everything is already written that way". And when you don't make a change, "you should have change it"... Well sorry I was just copying the old style.
Anyways , it's not that important. I do get their point. Sometimes.1 -
Is there a better way to run SC:BW on Ubuntu bionic than VirtualBox with the free IE11-Win7 image?
The game keeps flickering and it's quite annoying...(using the experimental Direct3D from VBox extensions)
(Note: Wine craps itself when battle.net client tries to run so that's not an option)1 -
I'm not hugely into Go, but I do get the appeal behind "only one binary output"
I'm doing C# right and end up with several different DLL files, executables, pdb and json. It's so annoying.
Thank god this is an internal tool, not something that needs to be packaged...9 -
I get tired of people complaining about rails "magic" it's annoying. Ok we get it, you have never taken the time to understand it's naming conversation or looked under the hood.

"...what I'm looking at... uh... wait this is ridiculous... what is this... how do I update this..."
This new guy I'm supposed to bring up to speed constantly mumbles like this. He's just talking to himself. But it's so annoying that it's like he's constantly asking me questions.4 -
Stupid motherfucking Youtube, for some reason I now get two fucking scrollbars whenever I open a video, effectively splitting the screen in half. It's so fucking annoying!
But get this: it only happens when I'm logged in!
Even better: it only happens when I'm logged in with my usual account for watching Youtube! If I log in with another account, the issue disappears!
Get your shit straight, YouCunt!1 -
Haven't done much work on my game since December. Ok so I havent done anything on my game since December. Learned Mockito and JUnit formally (finally) because that's what we'll be using at work.
Never really learnt unit testing prior, just knew it's power. I just need to find the right unit testing and mocking frameworks that work well with .net, C# and Unity3D and I'll be great.
I'll finally attempt to properly test that (those) annoying part(s) of my game. So many vectors to work out and often the object is moved to or along the wrong vector.
I'd always only imagined having to use stubs which is why I've never understood how unit testing would really help in such a dynamic environment as video game development. Especially as a one man team. Mocking is about to be my lifesaver.
Anyone able to suggest a good testing and/or mocking framework for C#, .Net, Unity3D? -
Everyone in the world can browse to my client's website on every browser. I can get to my client's website on every browser EXCEPT Chrome even on mobile devices. Doesn't even work in Incognito mode, nor after flushing cookies, cache, and history. Just the annoying ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. And then I switch over to another Chrome profile I have and it's all fine. Google Forums are completely non-helpful because they all say it's ipconfig /flushdns or reinstall All The Things and delete and re-create my whole profile. Things like this make me want to flush Chrome forever.3

Stackoverflow...some love it some hate it. I personally really like and try and again as much as possible, but what thing that is really starting to annoy me is lack of upvoting on questions. People will happily down vote poor queations and tend to upvote and downvote answers appropriately but there seems to be huge lack positive feedback on good questions... It's very annoying. Anyone else agree?

Anyone else having random apps stealthily installed on their Android phone? It's annoying! If this happens not only on my phone, I think Google is up for something fishy.4
-
Isn't it just great when there have been unrealistic deadlines chasing you and you keep missing, every day, for over a year?
Meanwhile this guy on the other team just talks on phone all day long for personal matters, no giving a shit to progress.
Yeah I know it's none of my business. But just get the fuck off my face. The mumbling is so annoying.
And he's also that guy I keep bitching about because of his desk finger drumming and keyboard smashing. -

Seriously, what's up with all the different "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" covers? Artists have created so many of them, that after listening to one or two covers, I get like 8 covers in my Weekly Discover or Release Radar on Spotify. It's getting annoying. I know it became a popular song of the new fans of Witcher, but if you plan to release an (n+1)th cover, just don't do it! It became boring and I will probably ignore your cover. Instead, you can create your own unique song!5 -
Try creating a Java multi-dependency project without Maven and just manually adding the jars. It's super annoying as nested dependencies will arise and sometimes conflicts. :P9

So one of my friend is doing her internship now and she has to program in Java because her boss believes she is studying IT although it's not the case. She is feeling really bad because it took her a week to code what is for them a simple program... I don't know what to say to her... It's not like it's a good thing to learn Java through a specific program! Anyway it's just so annoying these people who believe that if you're studying tech, you must "of course" know a programming language...5

Seeing an Elementor ad on Facebook is so annoying to web developer because it's like your ex who constantly reminds you of how bad you are in sex despite the fact that you are not dating a super model.

tl;dr- laptop wouldn't shutdown, was gonna remove the battery but stroking the circuit board restarted it.
I wanted to try Chromium OS, so I live booted it and it was ok. Pretty simple at face value, and obviously very browser based, the annoying thing is I had to go for the Guest account or sign into your Google account, local users didn't seem to exist.
I tried both and it's pretty annoying having to be online for Chromium OS. I assumed it involves a browser and probably Google quite a lot, but this is just pushing it on me! The UI looks alright though.
Ok, now to what happened when I tried to shut the laptop. It just blackscreened and was still on. So I left it and my dad charged it up.
Now, I've opened this laptop before but not while it's on! I thought I was grounded by not touching the carpet, and had released the static electricity. I was planning to read the repair manual and remove the battery then reinsert it, but dumbass me touched the circuit board on purpose, thinking "I can prove to myself I'm grounded!". It restarted. Luckily I didn't mess up the whole system board o_o
yeah that's it3 -
suggestion for devRant
I'm posting them here so if others want they can flame me as they see fit.
- Please add the ability to customize which notifications to get and which rants to watch.
- Please move around options in profile and settings and for the love of God move the delete profile button. It's just behind the settings button so if you press settings and click again there's a chance you have clicked the delete button.
- Some of the app is using JS for navigation and other parts don't. Pagination can be done with JS. Seeing notifications too.
- I get that the app is designed this way to be displayed on mobile but for someone like me who uses the web app the small editor and it's huge font size and the big plus button are really annoying.
I love this place. I hope it gets better.1 -
So it's a little bit annoying when your team cant follow simple rules and conventions to enhance the work, I mean, in a reunion we discuss what will be our coding conventions and have and agreement, but now nobody follows it and Ive to keep writing and pushing them to follow rules they created. The best thing is the leader agrees with him saying "we don't have time for following code conventions" but when the code has no comments, no docs at all, the names are absolutely unpredictable and stupid bugs start happening he calls a meeting "to discuss our problems" I mean, for good, the last time we did the same thing
-
Fu google, y u removed zoom buttons from google maps? It's so annoying when I have to use my whole hand just to operate your fckin maps...5

Recruiter.... when will the day come when you finally understand that you should read someones profile + listen to what they answer.
I have clearly in my profile written, that i don't want to work with Java. What do i get 70% of the time? Exactly: JAVA offers.
What do i else get for offerings? IT Consultant? QA Engineering? How many requests are something, that i'd actually want to do? Exactly. 1 in 100 offerings.
Recruiters, please step up your game, it's annoying and a waste of time for you and for us.5 -
Is it weird that my windows 10 never updates? If not, it's pretty annoying to see the same "windows 10 updates" rant posted by different people who don't even use windows.4
-
I just helped my friend setting up Laravel on her machine. The npm is giving me headache because of the fucking permission issue. WHY THE FUCK chmod DOESN'T WORK ON WINDOWS IF POWERSHELL RECOGNIZE THE COMMAND?? Then composer says that it cannot find the autoload.php. I thought it was another permission issue end up it's because composer fuck up installing on Windows. Wasted 2 hours for this shit.
Oh and the default language she uses is French. The keyboard layout is entirely different. French is totally awesome but the typos in command is getting really annoying. :(
I'm not saying Windows is bad for general use but I think it's a bad idea for developing non-Microsoft product on Windows. I don't understand how can one bear with so much shit on Windows. Most dev tools tutorials are written in Unix system so fucking get a Mac or Linux at least!3 -
it's sooo annoying. There are no sites that cover SOAP with JavaScript. I am only a junior dev and I have no way how to tackle this project. Why SOAP??11
-
Set myself a fun JS project, but now it's just annoying the hell out of me with calculations I can't figure out.3

I was late with getting into programming and only started considering it after completing an education in animation before (unwillingly) working jobs outside of that field for a few years.
I had to really dig to try and figure out what I'd enjoy doing, and it's when I asked myself what I enjoyed about things in the past like railroad tycoon that I got on the track (eh?) of putting stuff together and making it work.
I remember seeing my friend play and I was screaming internally at his "who cares it works" solutions. When we later played ottd I would try to set up my stuff so that it was readable and because I realized how annoying it is when I can't figure out what my friend's tracks are supposed to do without asking him.
I was basically a developer all along. It's just that my only programming language was railroad tracks and signals. -
Anyone else here experiencing browser stuck at loading when nodemon restarts. It's fucking annoying.

I am working on partitioning my life and getting my tech stuff and online life organized. Partially fun, partially dread. Still one of the better things I'm dealing with right now.
Tech stuff mainly includes desktop PC (Qubes OS), network (to be driven by openwrt) and smartphone (already running Lineage OS, but I want to build my own LOS). This is the fun part. I want to add a NAS, but I'm too cheap for a proper one (at least for my >20TB media).
Furthermore offline stuff: Remove clutter, get analog documents properly organized (with a sustainable system) and possibly digitalized. I already have maybe half of the things I own in boxes each with a specific purpose (e.g. audio cables, network cables and game controllers each have their own box). Can be tiresome, but it's easy to see a progress and that makes it quite okay.
Online life: That's a big one. A large chunk is email and the hundreds of website accounts. I have them in a keepass file, but all running under the same address. Unfortunately I need to have a Facebook account for some purposes, but I'd like to start over with a new one. Not so easy when you have to transfer group admin privileges though, when I tried the last time I tripped some system and the new account was banned. Annoying. -
Fuck you, BouncyCastle. I really like you but the way you have documentation. It's annoying. Nice name. Cool project.
Here, I'm write Java Docs for JUnit tests! For every damn test case!
So damn less documentation even SO said mind your own business! It's been more than 15 hrs. Not a single reply! I died a little today. They have examples but they are not really "examples". No passion at all for documentation!
You should watch and learn from AssertJ docs. OMFG @joel-costoglia sets standards for code style and docs before pull requests. The examples are LOTR themed for god's sake. I'm not asking for fluent API. I just want docs. What class does what. A simple program structure required.
Dyn4j, deeplearning4J have wonderful docs. Why not BouncyCastle?!!!!! -
Since I started web dev work almost everything changed. Very paradigms of writing the code, structuring it. CSS is a totally different beast from what it used to be, vue made everything so much simpler in terms of state/view control. Alas, there's been no progress whatsoever on the most annoying part of development: Clients.
"But why it's not like in wordpress?" "How do I click buttons that are clearly labelled?" "We need to make it pop!" "But in wireframes it was a bit bigger!" "Why doesn't the preview show the exact view?" -
Would be a perfect joke if it read "Then it's true" (or maybe "Then it's 22")
Now it's more like the kind of joke your annoying boss would make to "act smart around tech guys"2 -
I kind of need to replace my ThinkPad T430 soon. I bought it for about $200 3 years ago, and I love it and it just works and does it's job. But the fan noise is getting annoying, the battery is pretty much dead and yeah well, the screen does suck.
I've been thinking about replacing said parts, which would cost me about $150. Which is almost what I paid for the device back then, but I don't know I don't really want a new one. The T430 is a sexy old lady, just needs some polishing.
Now to my questions..
Would you say it's worth it?
Is there a big noticeable difference from a glossy 1366x768 LCD screen to a matte 1600x900 LCD screen?
Would you pick matte over glossy?
Do LCD screens always suck?
In case you would just buy a new notebook, can you give me any recommendations? The notebook market is huge and I have no idea what to look for.
I'm not a big Hardware guy as you can see, I have honestly no idea about screens and panels and such.16 -
On a Mac / when I close the lid Chrome Canary opens up 40+ tabs with the snap message. Anyone seen this? It's freaking annoying and it happens every single time.1
-
I really hate it when you are reading DevRant on a public wifi network, and the network decides to drop the "more rants" packet, that you are blocked from loading more rants. Why do most applications stop loading more pages after a single request times out, it's really annoying2
-
I'd like to ask peoples opinions on building cross platform apps. So basically I'm on windows, and these insatiably annoying project leads (I fell for the "you code make me an app" one) want it to be cross platform. My first thought was PWAs, but then read that apple are dicks and some of the most important features are not actually supported (#!@?). So then it's ionic or Cordova, but who likes CSS? Or Angular 2? And for a native experience, I'd want to follow both iOS and android design patterns in the same codebase which is way beyond my pay grade. React native comes from Facebook, so I already hate it. Should I just build an android app and cross the iOS bridge later or build a not very native feeling, not vertically centred cross platform Cordova thing? Anyone who's had experience using Cordova care to comment on their successes / failures?13
-
Can we ban SO links please? Or at least add something to filter out posts with those links? Not a day goes by without someone copy-pasting their SO questions here, and it's getting fucking annoying.12
-
I really should be working on my assignment, since it's a really basic 'build a website' thing, but... I'm so burned out on this course already, augh...
Plus there's the WHS assignment distracting me from the actual IT work. At least the 'talking to clients' assessment is relevant, even if it's annoying.1 -
Hi Guys,
Any idea about sites or Apps for web development news and updates?
It's annoying when you're in web development field and feel like you're the last one / late to know about latest updates.2 -
Anyone using Redux Thunk with a router? Can I cancel a promise on location change like in Redux Saga? Occasional setState warning appeared to me and it's annoying
-
Not sure if it's just me, but it's kinda annoying to hear people say "make a build". Just say "when the code is built" or "when we run the build".1
