Turns out, SQL Injection works.
It gets worse.
Table name "schueler".

Got all data on all students.
Name, address, phone number, passwords in plain.
I reported it using an anonymous email. Partially fixed. Standard quotes now get eacaped. Still, passwords are now MD5.47 -
"Python is such a hard language. It has so many rules" - Undergraduate Student who sent out mass email to the class
*Professor makes the next assignment in ARM Assembly*10 -
The most absurd thing that I heard today ,
Me: open this XYZ.com
Friend: Should I open it in chrome or in Google.
Me: (Speechless)
Ironically he is a cs student.
Thx devrant.16 -
This one guy wanted a website to sell illegal drugs or something. Oh and he only offered $20 for it. Obviously I didn't take it.
There was another guy who wanted a calculator in Python. I'm not sure why, but I think he was a student who wanted someone to do his homework. He offered $250 so I took it. Once it was done, he didn't pay and blocked me.
I quit freelancing about two months ago or something since I was sick of it. Most clients are disrespectful.20 -
Le me having a chit chat with a student after sharing about programming in my former high school..
Student: "I learnt Java the other day, and I don't really like it"
Me: "Why?"
Student: "Because we can import existing packages on the community to do almost anything"
Me: "And? How is that bad for you?"
Student: "It's not very challenging, isn't it? I want to build everything in my program with my own code!"
Me: [silence]
Me: "Listen here, you little shit..."22 -
Interviewer: Do you know about SQL injection?
Student: Yessss
Interviewer: Okay, how we can prevent it?
Student: Yes, we should prevent it as prevention is always better than cure. It can lead to data loss and other problems so it can be difficult to fix it if it happens. The best case is that nothing like that takes place. [...]
Interviewer: I get it but how?
Student: By not building any web applications.
[Silence]
Interviewer: Nice, you may go. Do not call us. We will call you.19 -
Since past two-three years, Indian Government has been organizing a Hackathon called Smart India Hackathon for college students. And Luckily our team was selected this year.
This team had 5 Electronics Student and 1 Computer Student. Guess who the Computer Student was? Yea, Me.
They Knew nothing about Android Development. And the idea was about an Android Development. I was the only person who could code.
The centre for our hackathon was Varanasi and we live in Hyderabad. So we had to go there. I have not really travelled a lot in the trains (especially not this far from Hyderabad to Varanasi ). During the whole 37 hours journey, I was not able to sleep cause I am not accustomed to sleeping on a train.
The moment we reached Varanasi the hackathon had started which was 36 hours long. Normally team members switch places so that they can sleep but not ours. Cause I was the only one coding and it had to be done in this 36 hours. So add this up 36+36 hours of no sleep, I must have rarely slept for 3-4 hours in that 72 hours.
After the hackathon, I slept like a Snorlax whereas the other went for a trip around Varanasi ('_')18 -
Github education: You get a bunch of cool free stuff if you are a student.
Intellij: You get all of their IDEs for free if you are a student.
Adobe: You get a discount but you still have to pay 20€ per month as a student.
This is why I love programming and the whole community around it.11 -
In networking class today:
Student - "But this is just in theory, how does it work in practice?"
Lecturer - "In theory, theory and practice are the same thing."15 -
My college internet sucks!
It was totally fine upto when they blocked facebook and other social networking sites. 😕
Then they blocked youtube! 🤧 Ok, that was fine too!
But now they've blocked Stack Overflow! WTF!! 😭😭
This is the biggest punishment for any computer engineering student.
And there's no one to complain about it!😡😡 They've also blocked Ubuntu forums and several other helping sites! And they expect us to code without using these helpers. FML44 -
So my friend just got a new laptop and she never used a Linux based OS before,so I recommended it to her as she is also a CS under grad student,so I thought she might find it useful and interesting to try it out on her own ..This was her rant14

At our first programming course at uni (it was in C), a student asks in class:
Student: what is a pointer?
Teacher: i don't know, i only know Java.
How the hell did the poor guy end up teaching C then?!6 -
This was a comment but deserves its own post
A friend of mine had to make a pacman AI for a course and was required to have a partner.
So he asked the laziest, never in class guy for his studentnumber.
For every assignment he put that guys name and number on it. And he gave decent partner reviews.
His AI was the best of the whole year. The professor asked him to the front of the college room (with every AI student there, except his "partner"). My friend then thanked his partner, "he wouldn't be there without him".
Every student there laughed their ass off since they all knew that he soloed it.
The professor had no clue
At the end of the year my friend made that guy complete 3 courses without him knowing4 -
[Interviewer] : How would you use MySQL?

I was an intern - as a high school student. They had no idea what to do with an intern, let alone a high school student that was only there around three hours a day.
They tried to saddle me with a massive "how to use Perforce" manual, but I flat refused and told them to give me some real work.
In the end I wound up writing a text parser in Python to get some specific info from some files. They decided it wasn't actually needed after I finished it (I don't think they expected me to), on my last week there. I just played solitaire the rest of the time. I learned a few things:
1. I never want to work at Adtran.
2. Perforce should die in a fire.
3. Experience != Expertise.
4. Don't be afraid to put yourself on the line if it means potentially accomplishing something.3 -

It's:
"oh cool. you must have good job perspectives."
Or:
"you just use a computer. that's not real work. do a job where you use your muscles. lazy student."
And the best:
"Can you gift me with computer parts for free" or "can you copy program XY for me? It cost to much."13 -
Me, a 19 year old student at a meeting with a "potential new project" today:
Her: So, we would like a website where people could rent a conference room, and pay for it on the website. After they have paid, we want automated emails to go out to us and the person that rents the room. We basically want an automated rental system.
Me: Sounds fair, what kind of budget do you have in mind?
Her: Well because you are a student and you still live at home, we have a budget of about €200 (~$220). We thought it'd be fair because you don't really need an income yet.
At that point I slowly tried to fade away from the meeting... Please help me 😭22 -

Hello world, I'm a 20 year-old CS student and I've been following you all from the shadows for a year now. I finally decided to join you, so here I am! I've got to say that I love this app and the community, so I'm happy to be part of it now. I'm currently on holidays, but I can't wait to share some good ol' rants once the uni starts again!

What the fuck, it says on both my LinkedIn profile and on my CV that I'm a student but I can take on part time projects, and I also told a recruiter the same thing over phone (after he found me on LinkedIn).
Today I had lunch with said recruiter. Guess who had no clue I was a student?9 -
Young enthusiastic computer science student here. Was quite a long time silent reader of rants and other posts. Love this community. Today my raspberry arrived, looking forward to work with it and I just wanted to share my happiness!7

As a high-school student who has learned to program, i can't understand why programming isn't standard curriculim. It makes it so much more fun to learn math and physics. I also think even basic understanding of it improves how we use technology
Remember to teach your youth to program!1 -
This is 2017 but someone still think that Java and Javascript are the same language.

In our advanced software engineering lecture everyone has to hold a free presentation about about an own topic.
One of my fellow students picked “failed IT large-scale projects” and - of course - had some german examples with him. You know, we germans are good in failing large projects🤣
He has chosen “FISCUS”, a project that wanted to unify the german tax system. It was a FIaSCUS. 13 years without any progess. 13 ... years ...
ok, but this is, where the story begins. The student then began to enumerate the reasons, why it has failed.
He told about bad architectures and stuff like that until the teacher interrupted him.
“No, that’s false. We had the problem, that some states, blablabla”
The important word was the “we” and we realized, that this student has by chance picked exactly that big project in which our teacher was the PM.
What the Heck.
He than had to think triple, about everything he had planed to say😂5 -
That feeling when people don't believe that you, an 18 year old IT student. Have developed a linux os but they have no problem with that a 7 year old developed a game.8

Had a final year project defence today in university. There were about 15 CS teachers in the room.
Our project was "Crypto Currency". After all the presentation was finish.
Teachers: so what is this blockchain?
** explained all about it and how it works with marker in a whiteboard **
While most of the projects were rejected and they have asked several cross questions to other friends, they didnt even ask any question to us and said our project is accepted.
Turns out teachers were taught by a student today, feels so good 😎 😂4 -
Didn't believe it till it happened to me!!
Was talking to a third year student...
Me: What languages can you code in?
Student: HTML, CSS

So this story is from my University days. I was in the 6th semester back then, studying CS.
My University website was pretty shitty. Basically it was one of those old ass website that said "Best viewed in IE8". Anyway, I was snooping about the website, trying to find some news regarding an event.
I logged into my account, and randomly browsed into the leave request portal. This was a basic HTML form where students could apply for leaves from the classes and see the status of the leaves, if they have been granted or not. I noticed that the link to the request portal from the student login welcome page was actually something like http://univ.com/student/index.php/..., here 1234567 was my student ID. Yep, it was hardcore into the page, and sent as a GET request on being clicked. That was their idea of authentication I guess. I change the student ID to someone else's, and it let me login as that person.
Long story short, I wrote a little python script to login as every person from the starting of student IDs, till the end, then submit a leave request with a random dumb reason like "can't come, at the strip club" or "going for sex change operation". What I did not know was that when a request is submitted, a text message is also sent to the student's guardians phone number. I ran the script.
That day, over 1000 parents received text messages from the University saying that their kids have applied for a leave from random date to random date for some retarded reason. It was a blast. Students were talking about how someone had "Hacked" into the system.4 -

Professor: Envision a person as an object, what methods would it have?
Student: Run
Prof: Yes, good example.
Other student: Jump
Prof: yes, people also do that
Me: Die
Prof: Well yes, but I'd prefer we don't take this any further27 -
As an IT student learning only C# and Java, I was asked very specific questions on c++ about micro optimizations, and binary operations (why i haven't learned that i still wonder, i had to self teach it)
Because of not being able to answer that i was denied that internship, because fuck your and wanting to learn as a student.
I litterally mastered all questions asked the day after the interview just out of spite. It were all concepts i easily understood but they valued their paper based interview more than actually giving me some code to work with.2 -
Remembering a university lecture
Prof: "What are some other downsides of using polling instead of interrupts?"
Student: "The process has to wait until it gets polled."
Prof: "Exactly. When you click Ctrl+W, you want that tab to be closed immediately. You don't want the system to wait a few seconds for those keys to get polled and risk your mom looking at that tab."6 -
I'm tutoring multiple courses in my school, including CCNA 1, html, JavaScript, IT essentials which is just an introduction to particles of a computer.
[Student]: So do you know that course about computers?
[Me]: mhm.....they all are kinda...you mean it essentials?
[Student]:Yes! The one where we type code between tags, right?
[Me]:Wait....html?
[Student]:Yes!
[Me]: yes, I am helping with that course.
[Student]: Oh cool...so how do I do thumbnails?
[Me]: /Opens the IDE/ same as a regular image except for it's a link that opens a bigger version of an image /blah blah blah/. You know how to insert the image on the page, right?
[Student]: Don't we just open the Google and search images?
[Me]:...
[Me]:....
[Me]:...omg my shift is over...

Today I learned a lesson from corporate survival 101.
The difference between get it done vs get it right.
Boss, manager always want to get it done, while developers always want to get it right, most of the time. If you don't listen to your boss, manager and insist get it right, will eventually cost your job. I saw many get it done code, either the dev moves to another team or already left. They avoid their own code forever.
Perhaps be a good student, not the smart student is a good way to survive. Thought????4 -
As a PhD student, I do not dare have hobbies. I mean, I don't exactly have time for it. I could make time for it, but then the phd would take forever.

One of the biggest things that grinds me gears is when I'm tutoring CS at my school as a student tutor is that I get those students who obviously aren't studying or even trying, in fact hoping their tutor will tell them exactly what to type to get that A in the class.
Me: "OK so here's the idea of..." *explains the idea on what they need to accomplish in a more simplistic, visual idea*
Student': *blank stares*
Me: *Blank stares back, thinking of how to make it simpler...*
I then explain I in even more layman terms till they get through their head I'm not going to tell them what to do. I'll guide, but I won't tell what to do.
Please don't waste my time, or I'll waste your time explaing the very fundamental basics of how a variable works instead of helping with your homework.3 -

So, I'm a CS student in a third world country. I love coding and I think i'm pretty good at it.
As I'm kind of poor, I'm pretty much constantly looking for any job I can take, and I've already done a dev gig at a software sweatshop here doing mostly PHP, JS and Android/Java... the dev experience was cool, but money was absolute crap ($1.5USD/hour at the current rate, working 9h/day Mon-Sat, did it while in vacation). Better than min wage in my country but still, looking at the numbers I see from programmers all over the world... it was practically working for free. The real problem is almost every dev job here is similar, so I was looking into going remote but every opportunity I see is for seniors/people with 2-3 years experience or more.
Can you give me some tips on getting a remote job as a student/recent grad with little experience? What would you do in my position? Any input is greatly appreciated!17 -
When you're a fourth semester Java student and decide to try your hand at making an android app... Only to find that it involves almost none of what you've learned so far.15

So I was using this very nice web app for some administration. When browsing their blog, I discovered they were in my hometown, and only a couple of blocks away from my place. I emailed them "do you maybe have a job for an IT student?" And they said "Sure, come on over!"

IntelliJ!! In my opinion its the best IDE for Java and Kotlin and it supports you to code better
And I got it for free because I'm a student :D4 -

Is this something cool?
I wanted a portable battery but I had no money (student life in Mexico), but I had a couple of damaged tablet batteries and a damaged router case.
A year ago I did not use it, but now it is useful when I occasionally go out to capture some Pokémon.
The downside is that it only has one USB port to discharge and micro-B to charge. And of course I do not go out with the antennas, I take them off, I just put them on for the demonstration, haha.2 -
I finally got the GitHub Student Pack, for some reason, I’m so happy and excited to get it finally.😀6

I'm so glad I was recommended this app on the play store. I wouldn't have found it otherwise! Sincerely, a CS student that of course downloaded this app at 2AM.4

This is fucking bad. I just stumbled across a database online, unencrypted plain text containing ALL details of thousands of students at my university. Full names, ID number (SSN), student numbers, address, family info, medical aid info, physical fitness reports
What do I do? I was not on any VPN or proxy when I accessed it19 -
Lots of fun open source stuff, but I had a lot of fun working on a survey taking m&m dispenser. The goal was to encourage students to answer survey questions that would help the faculty get a better idea of what the students found most valuable (different things they wanted to learn, classes they found useless, etc.). So me and another student built this :) Its a node server running on an Intel Galileo, which served up an admin and survey interface using React. When a student answered a survey question, a servo would turn a gear, which interfaced with a rack and pinion that had two little pits in it. When it would slide under the jar, two m&ms would fill the pits, then the rack and pinion would push them out. Then we had a webcam hooked up to the end of it that would compare the colors of the m&ms to see if they were the same. If they were the same, the student would get more m&ms. The gear pieces were 3D printed.
We could never get the webcam stuff to work right with the Galileo because OpenCV (the computer vision library we were using to interact with the webcam) could not be built/compiled on such a specific version of Linux. Later, I was able to do it with a RaspberryPi, but never got it reintegrated.5 -
Another day on my tutoring job
This guy who's got no idea about what is he doing here (I had a rant before), runs to me while I'm helping another student. He interrupts me, shoves a USB key to my face:
[Student]: can you do something for me? Can you upload something on my ftp coz I gotta go now.
/*Each student in out school got personal ftp and submitting under the right directory is usually a part of an assignment and cost grades*/
[Me]: I can't, it's against the school policy
[Student (annoyed)]: But I have to go!
[Me]: can't help you, sorry
[Student (still annoyed)]: So you're not gonna do it, huh?
[Me]: No, sorry
[Student (passively aggressively)]: So I guess I'll get a zero for this one.
And he says it like it's my fault!
And he walks away. Me and students I'm helping are shocked. The guy is in his at least 50s. And no common sense whatsoever.5 -
Wasting about an hour trying to leave detailed comments and suggestions for a fellow student on an university project's code.
Said person just respond on the team group with "If anyone does not like something, he/she can go ahead to change it, so we would move on faster"
THEN WHY THE FUCK ARE WE STILL DOING CODE REVIEWS???6 -
Client wanted a website to offer rentals for her collection of student rental properties. She was adamant and stipulated that it had to be the Rightmove of student lets. I asked her if she had a £million plus budget for the marketing and then some for the infrastructure and mobile app development. She disapeared. Months later I checked the URL she had purchased and it had been done as a free site on wix.com and was a dreadful piece of shit. You just know instinctively that a client is going to be worthless.

I'm a student in applied computer science and yesterday I had a course where we use drupal and we needed to update our drupal site. The professor told us at the beginning that in a previous lesson some people needed more than 2 hours to do this. I started laughing because whybin the world would you need more than 2 hours to update a site, right?
It took 3 hours to update my site -_-5 -

It takes a good two minutes for all of the resources to be extracted.
Me: * Gives more instructions *
Me: We are going to have to restart program X.
He: * Closes X and runs again from inside de .rar file *
Another two minutes.
Me: * stares *3 -
For fuck's sake man! I know you are an inexperienced junior dev/student but estimating 3 months at 6 hours /day for slightly modifying some C# code is just ridiculous.
I may have never touched anything .NET before but the modification required just 3 fucking lines and I did it in a day. In three months I would have finished the whole fucking project.
PS: VS2017 (RC) was quite lovely.8 -
So last year i was competing in IT basics, school level went great so i went to state level. This is my first state competition ever and im really nervous, everyone is telling me things like "you've got the gift, don't worry" (by everyone i mean my mum) but i keep believing that everyone who went to the state level has a 'gift' for IT. So the competition is about to start and a guy next to me raises hand to ask a question and im like so nervous that he is going to ask something i dont understand or is too complicated for me. The guy fucking asks how to get past the login screen because he clicked on an admin account and it is requesting a password. The fucking guest account is right next to the admin account that he clicked on and i proceed to help him and i click on the guest account and he litteraly asks me "wow i didnt know that was possible". What the fuck. IT BASICS STATE LEVEL. DOSENT FUCKING KNOW HOW TO ENTER A GUEST ACCOUNT. Next on, the competition is over and we have to enter passwords to submit our online test so as i walk to exit the classroom i see a guy struggling and i ask him like dude you need to write a password and submit! Hes like umm yeah i know but umm you see... I dont know how to write a # (it was required as a password) .IT FUCKING BASICS STATE LEVEL.DOSENT KNOW HOW TO WRITE A '#'. Later on i got 8th place and the fucker who didnt know how to write # got 1st because he knew fucking exel questions that i didnt.4

Wanted to share a project with you, which I heard about at a Python Conference I attended.
It's a Raspberry based Hacking Station to educate and sensitize students about data privacy. The amazing thing about the project is, that it is a graduation project from a high school student.
If you're interested, check out spypi.ch
This is not an ad or something, I was just amazed by the talk and the idea of the project and wanted to share it with you.1 -
being a first year IT student:
- help, I can't check-in to my flight
- my computer is slow, I heard you can fix it (still runs xp)
- can you fix the printer?
- my laptop is broken (error message pops up with the actual solution) and there was an error
- did you read it?
- did I read what?
Is this gonna get better anytime soon?18 -

So, I have this free 90 day trial code for intelliJ IDEA Ultimate I got for enrolling in this udemy course. And, I don't need it anymore because I can use my student email to get access to jetbrains software, ie intelliJ ultimate. So, if you want to try out inteliJ ultimate for 3 months, let me know and I can give you the code... somehow. I'm not sure yet. Maybe Google Hangouts?10

So I finally got my senior project approved by my school's assistant principal (the one who deals with every student's project) and he said that the three forms of evidence I suggested were not enough. A quick summary of my project: I'm supposed to make a game engine in Java before April of 2017. Every student needs 3 forms of evidence that they did the project so I suggested screenshots of my work, the finished source code, and pictures of me actually working on it. In addition to all of that I would have a ton of documentation and sample projects to test different features of the engine. Well, he doesn't really understand that for a high school student, that's already enough work for a couple of years and thinks I need more evidence. So what does he do?
He requires me to find at least 5 people to test the engine and complete a survey about it. This normally wouldn't be a problem, except I'm a high school student and don't know more than 2 people who are fluent enough in Java to work on a game. And, I have to finish the project before January now to give the people enough time to work with it.
Long story short, I'm not even out of high school and I'm already experiencing the struggles of dealing with non-technical people.10 -

What a silly end of the week. Have to continue developing at a project a student started at our company. Today I had a phone conference with the client. They told me there where missing several data. At first I thought it is only a frontend issue but now I know it is a database issue so I have to work through several database procedures which are all undocumented and the student who build those is not reachable. Business integration ftw

Most successful project? Probably a little tool I built to practice programming and to help with my studies in a completely different field. I didn't want to keep it all for myself and shared it with some friends at the university. I would never have expected that a couple of weeks later almost every student at our department will be using it but I'm quite happy I could help them too.

I love how my University CSSE courses make it hard for Windows users.
Student: Is it possible use VALGRIND in Windows CMD?
prof: I don't know, I only use Linux command line. Next question.
All programs must compile and run on Linux using g++. So everyone using windows has strip the IDE bloat and transfer the project files over to the remote Linux lab every single time they compile and run.
Benefits of being a Linux user!5 -
I'm just a student, but I always feel like a badass when the class treats me like almost like a teacher when it comes to programming.
Our actual programming teacher is new, so she doesn't always teach well (don't get me wrong, she's nice and I do know my place as a student) so my classmates usually approaches me when they need clarification or they got an error on their code. Makes me feel useful :D4 -
Oh for crying out loud. Master/Slave has been the defacto way to describe dependent interactions between electronics since the birth of the silicon chip. Even IDE used to implement it as a standard for running multiple devices over a single cable. Just because a handful of fresh faced 18 year old kids think the world owes them a soap box and a rock to hang themselves over, it does not mean the world has to bend to this oversaturated retribution complex that seems to be affecting every college student lately. Grow the fuck up.5

Not a rant!
But I had to share that I just got my first job in IT while being a first year Software Engineer student! Being a webmaster at a store that operates on campus! Not much, but it's something!1 -
I worked with a developer for months. He was senior to me; on more money than me and had way more experience. I spent at least 25% of my time explaining the most basic stuff to him. Things like 'no, that's not how a cache works', 'no, you shouldnt be doing string concatenation inside a loop', 'no you've completely written the wrong thing because you didn't listen'
When he left, he claimed to have finished off a feature for our application. We dove into it, rewrote it, made it more efficient, the code cleaner, the documentation more succinct and the logic more obvious. When I say we, I mean me and a student, and by me and a student, I mean the student with some very light prodding from me.4 -
The coincidence is that I got hired today only! This was my first job interview. I am a student. Not sure if it gets counted as my last job selection but i am super happy. ;)
Thanks devRant for this special topping. 😁 -
Rant
I'm a CS student at a university in the global top 10. We currently have two courses using Java, where we have to submit our work to a judge program. One of them is running Java 7. the second one Java 6! Come on, what year is it? Just update your fucking software and the assignments, you lazy fucks!
First rant. Am I doing this right?6 -
As someone who works in Student Administration with an expensive and broken system, I often wonder why we can't just get the IT students to build us a system as part of their Final Year Project.4

As a newly graduated student, I searched incredibly hard for a job for 4 months. Now that I've got one, I'm being bombarded by recruiters...
It makes sense and all, but it's still a bit funny2 -
Google's new feature is to show you a quick overview of a medical condition and it's so cool, I'm having a little stiffy as a medical IT student 😍7

oh to be a new cs student and to be excited about programming and coming up with solutions... i feel quite nostalgic about it, that sense of wonder6

ITT graduate in 2005. I think I'm the only student in my class that actually got a career out of it.
This has been a long time coming.1 -
Student here.
For those who got a degree in CS or similar, what is some advice you can offer to a sophomore in school?
The education I have gotten so far for a Software Engineering degree seems like it isn't enough. So far, I only know C++ and front end web development. Besides the little tiny projects they give us, they do not teach us how the field works.
One of my most lingering questions of all is.. what technologies should I know before interning and/or job hunting?!?! There are dozens of languages for everything; I'm lost. I feel the pain for developers in the future who have to catch up on technologies.
I have heard that learning C++ will make it easier to learn other languages. I won't know until I start another language (too busy working in the summers).
What regrets do you have? What do you wish you could've known while studying as a student or self-teaching yourself?8 -
Had my first interview for a part time Php job at a student company at my school yesterday.
If I have to guess, it all went pretty well.
Let's hope I make it to the second interview round 😁10 -
Hi my dev friends... I have applied for Microsoft Student Partner, and need your support. I have uploaded a Video for the 1-minute Video challenge, and need good stats on that. Please watch the video and if you like it, feel free to hit the like button and Comment... (That will be awesome)

I didn't think about it too much while I was studying. But my old university uses PuTTY for class enrollment and other stuff.
Meaning a student would log in, view what classes are available. Make their schedule, and then add them.

So some asshole keeps sending phishing emails to every student and prof in our university and the IT department is too pathetic to block it. They all come from the same email and contain the same text yet they cant filter it and just send warnings not to click it.
Im getting sick of recieving 5 of these a day, i scanned and viewed the page and its just a simple form copying the outlook login page with a redirect to the actual page after submission.
Whats the easiest way to write a script that will spam them with thousands of fake accounts? How can i fuck with these guys?7 -
I hate it when the college gives priority to project report than project. I fucking hate it. Line spacing, fancy borders, font size, institutional logo, who the fuck cares? All I care is what work is going on and what have we learnt from it. Fuck these faggots. For the past week I am more of a typist than an engineering student.
I got even angrier when the evaluators did not even open and go through the report.

oh FFS my university pissed me off so bad right now that I had to wait 20 min to cool down to be able to write a rant about it...
so, one of the university department offer an email address which is the official university approved email for student packs like jetbrain's. I wanted to renew my jetbrains subscription, but for that I have to get a verification email on that address..
But since the only time I use it is this annual renewal I dont know the webmail's url..
So I search for it on the department pages, services and its nowhere to be found. Finaly I found it on a student maintained wiki page.
I try to log in.. no luck. try another password, still not it. Try all of the passwords that I remember using in the previous 3 year and no luck.
well fck it the password change is managed by a website where I can log in with a different method, so I change the password and try to log in again.
No fcking luck! And at this point I bashed my head against the wall because I found out that the password change takes them about 1 or 2 hours... hours! wtf...5 -
I'm a coder student that make some small projects for customer in the free time.
The actual one hired me for a small program in c++ but he needed it finished in max a week.
I wrote all the logic in 4 day and then I asked for the final design UI to finish it but after 10 days i'm still waiting for an answer to my mails...
Yesterday i wrote him on WhatsApp...
He blue-checked my mex...
In the next days I will hunt him at work to get some explaination...2 -
I'm currently volunteering as a student assistant at my school, and today I've gotten the same question 20x. What question do you ask: "Why doesn't ^ return the power of the 2 numbers?"
It turns out that last week they've had a Math class from a new teacher (no programming experience) who said that if you want the power of 2 numbers you have to use the ^ operator...
If you don't know how to program, please don't teach it!5 -

So this is what a test looks like here in my school...
I really like my teacher but his test are... uhh... fucking awful.
I mean the code isn't even indented ffs! Like wtf?!? How should one be able to read this bullshit?
The questions are shitty too.
Also please add line numbers so it is easier to describe how things work in the code.
AND USE FUCKING A4 PAPERS FFS!!!
Thanks,
an experienced student7 -
Back when I was at university, during the first lesson of web development class, our teacher said: “If you have any doubt or problem, please ask me. The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask!”
A fellow student raised is hand and asked how to do printf in Java (it was totally legit as most of us only used C at that point and it was our only reference in programming).
Our teacher: “What kind of fucking stupid question is this?!?”

In highschool, I was looking around for schools and universities at which I would start my student career. I went to a grad school one day, to see what it was like to be a student there. The first class I visited was programming for embedded systems. We got the assignment to write Java code to control a boom barrier. The teacher had written the template. And I kid you not, the template had a method of around 20 lines of code - without comments - with the purpose of carrying out a logical OR operation. An operation that literally can be done using an operator in Java: |
Why oh why do they let these people teach, with the result that the students will get used to these bad practises...5 -
Once mentored a high school student for a science fair relating to robotics. It was definetely interesting having to relearn many things so I could teach them well but it was definetely worthwhile! I couldn't be prouder of the work my student (mentee, pupil, ??? Idk how else to say it lmao) achieved. He won several awards for the project, even some scholarships!!1

*Nervous student comes in for the first interview I am conducting as a developer*
Me (as an interviewer): What is best approach to search data?
Student: It will take linear time but if data is sorted, we can do it in logarithmic time.
Me: [Smiles] Take a hint Hash Map?
Student: Yes, with it, we can do it in constant time.
Me: Okay, Bloom Filter anytime?
Student: *sweating* noooo...
Me: Okay. I am a developer so I know this.
Student: *about to cry*
Me: No problem but why will you search data when there is no problem? Don't you have better work.
Student: *confused* yup
Me: *laughs but immediately controls* Take it lightly. You know what you need to do this job. You are HIRED. :)2 -

Way back, 20 or so years ago, when I went to the university, every student got an account so that we could work with the Unix machines. Every user got the same default password, -apollo-, still remember it until today, and one day I felt a little bit evil and I tried to login to the administrator account, of course the first password I tried was the default password and it worked!!! I got super scared and told an older student about it, who was brave enough to scare the administrators a little bit by leaving a message like "you have been hacked!!!" or something similar. I was just too scared to do anything about it. All I wanted to do was see IF I could login ☺️ my few minutes of being Mr. Robot... Guess hacking was not for me 😃

Holy shit stain, an under) today it was discovered that an underprivileged university scholarship student had accidentally received an allowed of 14mil instead of 1.4k over 8 months she spent 800k of it.
I am not sure what confuses me more, the fact that it took a company 8 months to realise 14mil was missing or the fact that a person was stupid enough to believe they allowed to spend that mistake, yet be smart enough to be accepted into university.7 -

As someone who uses UNIX and UNIX-like systems on a daily basis, and someone dealing with computer support in a school, I experience so, so many issues, many of which others have already ranted about.
For no reason at all, I find it incredibly frustrating how many high school students' understanding of sudo is limited to this:
Student: Hey, isn't sudo the minecraft command
Me: Erm
Student: You know, the one skeppy uses... to troll players? Anyway, you're doing it wrong. There should be a slash before you run the command
Me: aaargh.
and so on. Happens probably every 10th time I invoke sudo.
I mean, really? Surely these kids, with all their complaints and lines: hacking into the mainframe/whats the admin password/why did you block my VPN/ and so on, would know what sudo is. But NO, they just don't seem to get it. Sometimes I lose my hope in the futures of these kids.5 -

Kubernetes is actually sick. I love learning about it and playing around with localized clusters. The only thing that sucks is I would never use this for anything while I'm still a CS student. And I probably won't ever use this if I'm not in Devops. *sigh*. fun to learn about, regardless.

As a student I got involved in a project written by another student who wasn't working at the company for the time I started. It was a web based application written in plain JS and PHP. His attempt was really terrible and I had to rewrite almost everything. If I sum this up I deleted about 4k lines of code and replaced them with about 2k of my code. My attempt is scalable and it is much easier to build new functions and modules.

I am a college student that's pursuing a degree in Computer Science. Once one of my classmates said that she had a 3 GB pen drive. I was curious as I'd never heard of any company making pen drives in that capacity. I asked her to show it to me, she showed it to me and pointed out the words "USB 3.0".

That's funny how as a student in apprenticeship, hating front-end and wanting to do backend for the rest of my life, I currently assigned to redo the entire front of a website by adding bootstrap and stuff. I'm doing this for a week and it bores me so much...2
-
I would replace it completely with industry apprenticeship, along with every other major. Education in the USA has become a scam designed to mine children for debt. If we're shackling kids to their student loans we at least owe them relevance in their chosen workplace.
Germany apparently let's people choose apprenticeship over university for work such as engineering. Does anyone know more about that? Does it work? Would it work for programmers?5 -
As a student, I live in a house with friends and the actual didn't have a table in my room.

!rant. Story from my college abt 6 months old.
We had to make projects for our course.
One team made a very nice project. One part of that was mobile no. verification using OTP.
And the student who was supposed to to that, did it by sending the required otp to the frontend page, and when user enters it, validate it using javascript.
The prof got mad about it and the rest of the class couldn't stop laughing.
Just remembered. Thought it would be worth sharing. -

As a part-time student, I have been having a very hard time getting a job. I have worked as a developer before but I had to leave my job due to various reasons but I never stopped brushing up my skills on different levels. So I have an employment gap in my resume. So what?!
Now, the moment an employer hears that I'm still a (fucking part-time) student, the assholes immediately turn their faces away and never call back. And I know that I'm a good developer (at least I can pass the stupid assignments they ask me to solve) and that there's a shortage in good developers in my country anyway. It's just depressing!
Anyway, I had to let it out somewhere. Also, if you have some advice for me, I'd love to hear it.2 -
I am trying to apply for a student credit card. Should be relatively simple, but guess what: it isn't. First there was a question on your income. I didn't know if you had to include your student loan by issued by the goverment and after calling the bank, the answer seemed to be no. And the form didn't succeed because your income should be higher than 1 euro. So I've contacted the bank again and it seems that you could just fill in your student loan as income. Okay, so that should fix the problem. So I came very close to completing the form, gave the website me an error in the last step!1

My least successful project was:
social network for student exchange. I did it for the student organization that after launch decided that they really don't need that and shut it down.
Idea was for students to subscribe to internships of their interest (for example 'developer internship') and then they get notifications when someone from the network publish internship within subscribed interests.4 -
We had to finish a student project, our project leader had done some work on the project before and his algorithm to detect an event was complete bullcrap.
I took it in my hands to rewrite the algorithm with the risk that it doesn‘t work and i hadn‘t done any work i could show, which would result in a bad grade.
Luckily my algorithm worked better in orders of magnitude and we managed to deliver on time -

The best experience I had as a student was attending a few masters degree classes at a computational arts course, it was awesome being the only developer in the middle of a lot of art graduated students who were learning to code. tl;dr Why Linux?
So yeah, another Linux question. I love C# and been doing some WPF and Xamarin stuff and planning to learn ASP.NET, but why do I hear that Linux is better than Windows for web dev. Why should I learn it especially if I want to specialize in .Net? Sorry just a student and I heard Microsoft is bringing a lot of Linux goodness to Windows and I wonder why.10 -
Not exactly a co-worker, but another student at my data structure class, the guy freaked me out, he would stand up in the middle of the class whenever he finished the assignment first and walk around like he was about to jump.
I did beat him the first time though and that's when I noticed it was like a race for him, I still fear he will end me for that. -

The other student wrote a fucking 40 page university evaluation (requirements, first architecture and sl on) about the concept of this project and did not have the time to implement it.
But instead of giving me this research paper, my advisors say “Be creative and don’t use this work. Do it by your own.”
wtf? Why has this student even done all of this work and why do I have to waste many hours in order to begin everything from day zero??2 -
Took a college class - think it was called "Programming for Designers" - and the "teacher," aka CS grad student, just sat and played Pocket Tanks the whole time.
-
There was a DB error which made my student card invalid which means that when my JetBrains license expired I couldn't extend it. Now I can't use it at all so all of my projects are stalling :/1
-
Got a first job today! I'm still student, worked as freelance web dev for a few years already. BUT biggest problem with this new job that I supposed to use Windows :/ until now I used to use macOS and I loved it :/ I don't know how to feel, happy and sad at the same time...1

My best teacher was with me for C++ in high school and in college. He had the most relaxed, laid back style while managing to both make the lessons fun.
Perhaps my favorite lesson was around C++ and Pointers. Lessons generally we mixed with long ramblings about the military and live coding examples. He was talking about object references and Navy ships when he told a student to "give me the USS Wisconsin". Perplexed, my classmate said he wasn't sure he could do that without a lot of help. So this teacher drew an arrow on a piece of paper, showed it to the class and then found the general direction he wanted it to aim for and taped it to a pole next to the stage. He called that a Pointer to a USS Wisconsin and then asked the student to give him the USS Wisconsin again.
I understand pointers today because of that lesson.2 -
Story time!
I was with some friends, one a CS student and the other one's a mechanical engineer student with coding like a hobby.
I was listening to a song from which the band released the stems (individual tracks) of a song, and this dude made an anime version of it.
Me: Oh God, this is awesome
Mech: how did he do that?
Me: What? The song?
Mech: Yeah, how did he split the voice and everything, is the music like an Ajax request and he queried for the voice
Me and my other friend lock eyes and began to laugh so fucking hard.
Me: that's not how it works, why did you though that?
Mech: I don't know -

How do non-students get their IDE's?
I couldn't imagine working without Visual Studio Enterprise + ReSharper and all the Jetbrains tools, but I wouldn't by them myself (because I'm a poor student)...so how do you guys do it?17 -
Since CS is about the science of computers and not about a particular programming language, it would be nice if assignments were accepted in any non-esoteric language, as long as it can demonstrate that the student has learned whatever he was supposed to learn.
Bonus points for explaining well why that language was chosen.1 -
One of my student ask me this. I dont have exact answer so i decided to take help professionals here and based on their experiences i hope they can help him and many people who has similar questions.
Is it necessary to have graduation from USA to work in USA Or canada?
What are the possibilities to get an internship or job in US market without having education from USA?
Please comments.18 -
Me vs. Code Moocher:
CM: Hey, did you do the Chapter 6 homework?
Me: Did You...?
CM: Yes... (with confidence but an odd pause) But it doesn't work.
Me: Sorry I'm not done with it either I can help you.
I hate people like this. He could've asked me for my help or waited to ask the Prof.
But he outright asked for my work. It wouldn't be the first time.
FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF MOTHERFUCKER!!!4 -
My first job as a student was at the institute. I was working realy hard. Doing my best. Closing issues lika a boss. All my code was reviewed by senior.
Two other student has this simple program to make (gui for some functions and some graphs). They have no idea how to make it. Their code was worst than spageti and in four mounths then didn't even come close to the end. Noone even looked at theri code.
We were paid the same money!1 -
@devs with sizeable student loans:
How are you finding paying back your loans? Is it super tight? Not at all? How long are you/have you taken to repay?
I know this will be different for everybody but I’m interested in seeing a variety of answers!11 -
Does anyone know where you could buy O'Reilly books cheaper than they are on their site and possibly cheaper than Amazon? 50$ per book for a student it quite a lot.10
-
At internship with a fellow student from my class, making a SqliteHelper class in php to make things easier. Delete methods only have only one parameter (Primary key)
Coworker: "Why do you use the primary key as parameter? The user has no access to it!"
I can't express in words how close I was to snapping. -
Internships just kinda suck.
Like sure I'm probably not as good as the other Devs but knowing I'm getting over 5x less pay than anyone else in the room hurts.
Salaried and it works out at less than minimum wage if you convert it to hourly. Honestly what the fuck.
The experience im getting has been good but having to continue being on a student loan while working 38.5 hours a week is outrageous. Living in an already expensive city and I'm probably spending 10% of my pay on lunch in the office's canteen.10 -
What a coincidence. This will be that day. Not as dev, but as a student. I know this place called DEVrant, but I'm really nervous right now, because of the tests today. I didn't learn and I'm gonna fail all.
But not the tests the only thing I worry about. I hate this world becouse everybody needs to work hard and there is no break. Rarely you can get some air, but one second later you're in the deep again... I don't know what to say or what to do. This will go in my entire life? This is horrible.
I know. I'm just a student. "It will be harder." you say. But I've had enough of this.3 -
So... school is about to begin again...
Honestly I'm both excited and intimidated about it. It's my last year in high school, and I still haven't decided what to do after it. I guess I'll go to an university, and possibly continue with my conservatory... I want to do both things, hoping that the weight won't crush me.
If you're like me, still a student, what do you think you would like to do after high school?6 -
Looking for help I'm a software development student been studying programming for 3 years so have some experience just wondering is any good online tutorials or books that could help me develop my Python skills we don't cover it in college and I would love to pick up on how to use Python but all courses I find are very basic and expect I'm a beginner3

A few questions from a highschool student looking to go into a programming job post-secondary.
Did you go to college, university or jump right into it? Any regrets?
How did you get your first job?
I'm a little paranoid because while I'm great with programming and math (high 90 average) I am horrible with classes that require taking apart stories like English or history.4 -
Learning Java properly while doing a project as a student and reading what I had written just weeks ago - I had put all my logic into the DAOs, not thinking of creating a package for it 😌1

Yubikey: Worth it?
I'm a college student with way too many logins and offend reusing passwords. I also do password semantics research at the institution and know how useless they are.4 -
I understand that front end frameworks are important when scaling an app/project but it’s not a necessity for small student projects.
Can someone make me understand how a student can make use of the frontend frameworks not just for the sake of learning it but the framework actually being a necessity4 -
Thought all the time alpha industries Inc. was an eve online Clan. Kinda surprise when another student told me it was a fashion brand. 😅

Two years ago my company with local university prepared an internship program for a group of students. At the end one student was hired, but since it was government program, he also got government salary (aka the lowest possible). Today he literally BLEW UP when he found out that new recruits he was tutoring for last 3 months will earn twice as him currently.5

Found an institutional coaching centre leaking 1000s of students personal data phone, photo, db, parents info, documents photo path, payment method(bank, check, card) etc. They 32567 rows. I'm trying to find the admin login page. It seems they have it on separate subdomain. I found student login and I can login as any student. I hate these institutes. Sent them emails days ago (29 sept) but no reply yet. What should I do?2

So, A very close friend of mine is a fellow computer science student. But she has no interest in coding. Mostly because she never tried it. Is there any post or video that can help her find a motivation.
I know that interest comes from within, but set that aside for a while and help me out with something that inspired you.13 -
I want a horror movie with some undergraduate IT student watching coding tutorials, ending up really liking videos of a specific youtube channel.
Then, the student send a message to that creator, and they start knowing each other. After a year, the channel author invites the student to come over.
That youtube channel is called Carl H.2 -
I made a website for my college. The day on which I had to demonstrate it was fun. A student teaching and solving doubts of teachers! 😀😎

I been doing a online course and they provide a exercise to do in Jupyter notebook.
I notice that the exercise they wanted us to do this time is too complex. After finishing the exercise I submit it for review.
I thought I am doing an exercise but I had actually done an assignment and submit it :(
Lucky I pass that assignment. It is the worst misunderstanding I have done during my student life. -
Hi, I'm a computer science student and I have problems with myself. I'm always afraid and have very low confidence and it's killing me right now. I have a machine problem/assignment and instead if trying to solve it, i resort in looking for answers. I've tried solving it though but i cant. This has always been since im in college. Any tips or suggestion will help.4

So as an IT student I learn new stuff everyday. This is very useful, only not when you find it that the technique that you used in your personal project is not the only way to do it and is super fricking messy.
Whole weekend reworking.
(Not meaning I don't like the coding but just having to remove so many lines and reorganize files and the content of the files sucks sometimes :/) -
Is it harder to work a full time dev job or be a full time CS student with a part time dev job? I’m currently living the second one and it’s hard to balance both work and school.7

Proctorio. That's the rant.
But seriously. I thought I could get out of college without running into it. But nope! Now I'm being subject to having my data sent to a company who's CEO posts private support chat logs on reddit to call a concerned student a liar. What a joke.
College is a scam1 -
I recently volunteered to be the admin of our student website. Boy was I in for a ride... I can only imagine the conversation went something like this:
IT: previous IT
P: some person
P: we need some additional sites that are unrelated to the main site, where should I put the files?
IT: just put them inside the folder that has the files of the main site, it doesn't matter.
P: we have some sub-domains that we do not use anymore, what do we do with them?
IT: just delete the files, don't bother with deleting the subdomain
P: we are having an event, what do we use to store user applications, we used google forms previously and it worked just fine.
IT: we will have the applications go to our mySQL database, but everything will be in one table so that it's more readable.
I mean I'm still a college student so there might be some deeper meaning to this, but still i can't look at this without my ocd getting the better of me.1 -
Dad was (and is) a technic freak, I played as kid with electronics instead of toys.
I'm always interested to modify things to feel more individual (Own Skins in game, modding, ...)
This and the love to games (-> "I wannaa make my own videogame daddy") developed into a curious computer science student working at IBM that loves to learn anything related to it and I'm so freaking happy about it! ☺️ -
Wow.. Kubernetes makes me high!!
VERY literally.
Today O dug into k8s from a devops/admin perspective. Soooo many figures at play! Tried my best to understand it all in one go.
Now I feel like I used to feel back in my student days after successfully finishing a whole bottle of wine.
Dizzy and happy as fuck! 😁 and want to puke a little
go k8s!3 -
Simply the fact that i didn't started my dev carreer earlier because of lets say reasons which costs me 7 years of time which on one hand gave me a whole lot of experience across some fields but god damn it sucks being near thirty and still being a student while other friends are already leading teams and working on million euro projects -.-
-
Anyone seeing this rant from Sydney? If yes, why is it so hard to get any IT/Dev jobs for an international student? Sucks.
-
Finding internships as a college student is aggravating... I applied to 12 different companies in the last month and have only heard back from one and now I'm stressing out because it's getting very close to summer and I have no job. I have to pay for college and food and all that shit somehow but I can't exactly do anything about it besides apply to more companies and just sit and wait1

I need ideas for my honours project. I'm a web dev student so I want to create a website.
The trouble is, there's not much I'm passionate enough about to create a website for. It also needs to have some form of research in it.
I was thinking something based on VR but I'm not sure.
Ideas?3 -
Sooo after returning from my 3 weeks of vacation (student part-timer so no real obligations) I learned that the last two months of work refactoring our legacy app to conform to modern Android app standards, is being shut down because we begin to rewrite everything for cross platform...
Not sure how I feel about it, because I really liked Android development and I poured my heart in it... On the bright side: I'll get to learn more Javascript, HTML, css and polymer stuff which I guess is good.
It still stings a little 😥5 -
When I start reading the Linux kernel code in order to understand it during internship. It's so complex, so enormous for I but a high school student.

In the corporate world, how does promotion work?
Cause Im just a student here and I dont have a damn clue on how it works.10 -
When a CS student asks me (business IT student) how he can get kubernetes to work in PHP.
(No, I did not swap those two)
*facepalm* -
Kind of had my first SCRUM-meeting couple hours ago. I'm a student and have a internship at a company. It felt so dull since me and my two team-members stood there and listened to three others talking about their project that we have nothing to do with. Then we got to say what we made yesterday and so on. Hopefully this is all in educational purpose?1
-
I don't program for days on end. It takes a few weeks and then I fell good about it again. Sometimes I wonder if I even like programming. I do well in college, but I've never had a job as a dev (aside from student "research" positions). I'm worried that I'll just burn out and get fired or quit and lose interest. Maybe I already have? Can't think of any side projects to develop either, they all seem out of reach. Still figuring out how to cope with it. The test grades don't do it for me anymore.1
-
So this one dude at my school asked at a student conference, if they could swap Google for Ecosia as the search engine for all school computers. This ended up becoming an actual thing there a year after my graduation.
Imagine if a lot of other schools would do that too? Planting trees and ditching a monopoly, because one simple change from the IT department.1 -
My father had always been a computer enthusiast: in the 80s he was the first student in his faculty to write his diploma thesis on a computer (in social sciences, so not quite a scientist dominated area). When I was 3 or 4, he bought a Macintosh (I think it was the Classic or Classic II) and the rest is history. I learned to type and more in general to be around computers very young. That computer is still in my parents' basement, I should dig it out. 😍

When you pass a subject in one go where you cannot even fucking pronounce terms, symbols and notations in half of the chapters.
Also, just few hours before the exam, I was like, "Fuck this shit lets watch football".
P.S - Physics, the biggest nightmare of any CS student.
(Sorry it might sound a little OT but it had to be posted 😅)7 -
Should i do hadoop big data course ? I am thinking of this summer to do on simplilearn. I am third year student undergraduate in IT. I am java guy and good in RDBMS.. Should i learn then?2
-
Nothing like IT you're using actually being competent after you broke something (or more accurately pulling a pin that you didn't realize would blow up in your face).
Was dealing with a issue in the learning management system, decided to check a checkbox, ended up with every student receiving 1000% in the class. Went to our LMS support, said "oops I broke it", and they resolved it in 2 hours, and did what I was hoping for at the end anyways.1 -
So this student right here, not only he was so nice to give me 2 options on what to pick out from test, but both low in value :D The task was to write out all the dividers of a set number :D this guy, made it as simple for him as possible :D2
-
This rant goes way back.
> Be a student with student placement program at a big non IT related company back in the college days
> Given the job to work on a system to digitize their paperwork
> Had to go through 1.5 workdays of bureaucracy (?) to install Notepad++ and other basic open source tools to work with
IT'S JUST NOTEPAD++ NOT THE FKN MATRIX! JUST APPROVE THE DAMN THING!1 -
Helped a friend, eho is a Phd student formulate an argument for the uni why they should make programming mandatory for Phd student who study bioanalytics, ffs why the hell should they have to argu for it...
All he does on thr day are either taking samples or building porgrams to analys that samples if he is not writting documentation for the research...
ffs... the uni are supost to be the smart ppl... what do they think the future will look like?! less data minging when it comes to genom and rna analytics?! -

Besides my study I work as an student assistant at the university. My next project is developing an platform for children to learn the basics of programming. Really excited about it! Let the next generation meet with our work!

So after I had an interview for a part-time(student) position, I got an offer. The only thing I find it weird is shit pay for the thing that I have to implement. A full application with, with a nice architecture and all. Something that you would task a full time middle developer. Cheap work..2

Finance student currently doing a diploma...hoping to do I.T degree in university because felt it maybe useful in finance industry in the future.
Opinions anyone?2 -
Hey guys!
I'm a senior computer science student at a big ten university graduating in December. I'm thrilled to have been offered a full time software engineer 1 position on a QA team. I just wanted to ask, I ultimately want to be a software dev, would taking this QA position make that more difficult in any way? Or is it a great place to start? Because it is a software engineer position, but not directly doing software development.
Thanks for your input!3 -
Thoughts on significance of Software Requirement Specification and Software Design Specification document in the industry?
Coming from a student struggling to understand the importance of it. -
Hi guys! I'm new here, it seems fantastic!
Any of you is a front-end enthusiast that want to learn about UI & UX design? I'm a student, I don't know about work world. Is someone out there works as front-end dev and designer? Is it possible?
It seems developers are descriminated about graphic design. What do you think?2 -
I'm just a random student that didn't really accomplish something well-known or anything, but I'm very dedicated and always had a project in my spare time running. My goal for 2019 is finishing a playable version of a game I'm developing on my own for about a year now. It's all planned out and I just got to put more hours into it. Really looking forward to people seeing what I'm capable of!1

I'm a student and I'm currently working on a project.
How do I get it to execute blocks of code depending on the type of value it receives in a variable?
or maybe
Should I just use some other method or workaround to do it?
I'm not sure if I should post my question on SO.
(I think it's a dumb question)

If it gets (request.getParameter) a string { execute code }
else if {
//gets an int
execute code

Like tsunami? Nah I was still a student back then.
Nowadays, meetings and appointments.
Few years ago was flood and frequent black out.
More than 5 years ago, it was flood, black out and slow connection.2 -
Am a Computer Science student. And learned C, C++ and Java. And right now learning C# through online tutorials and practicing side by side.
So my question is, should I learn bash shell or not? Is it worth learning it? Or should I learn powershell scripting? Or should I don't learn either of them.6 -
I'm a second year CS student from Spain, and I'm getting my first remote internship for 3 months with an US bussiness. It looks great and the project does as well. My mentor's experience is quite impressive. Anyway, I'm a bit concerned as long as it's a new bussiness and I don't know about the requirements to do this legally overseas/remote, and he hasn't been really clear about that (we're meeting tomorrow by Skype). I just want to be sure it's not a scam. Any advice? It will be apreciated so much.2

I'm a student and we are forced to still have "ordinary" classes like Danish English and such. So we were having our English class. When out of nowhere our "skps" aka those who haven't found a company. That wanna take them in as a student but anyway they started looking around the class for turned on pcs. I asked my friend what the hell they were doing. Apparently a dhcp server from our class were hooked up to the schools lan and were faster. So it leased out ips with a lease time that was 8 days long. yeah they fail configured it, the SKP had pinged the server to find out it was called Pikachu. So the whole skp was on pokemon hunt til they found it at the table we all were sitting at "side note" it caused the whole lan network of our school not to be working"

Alright, everyone speaks of Github and it's usefulness and all. I have gone on there, I have done the tutorial a couple of times. And I still am not grasping it. Does the fact I'm a student make it this way? Is this useful for a student or is it beyond my skill level and coding needs?7

Going to be a Senior next semester and ill be taking a software testing course as an elective. From a student perspective, it sounds pretty important. Nevertheless Im excited to jump in to a simulation of real world application of what Ive learned so far in college.

Should I switch from windows to Linux? I'm a college student doing CS and most stuff I've seen on GitHub and such mainly have installation instructions on Linux.
I've heard a bunch of my friends go "dude if you code, consider switching to linux"
Is it worth making the switch? Should I dual boot my laptop or completely switch? Or could I make do with a bootable USB drive?9 -

I was grading for the Data Communications course (it's just networks), and the professor leaves me the first quiz to grade, along with the solutions.
Half the solutions are wrong, and no problems are assigned point values. I asked him how I should grade it, even how many points total it was worth.
"You decide."
Nearly every student got a perfect score on every assignment from me because it was clear the prof. didn't care, and I wasn't about to make my own answer keys for often incomprehensible problems and incomplete solutions. -
So, I have this colleague (tho he is a student in my company, while I'm an employee), who wants to build a site, but doesn't want to learn how to build one...
I literally gave him everything one needs, yet he still complains about it not working the way he wants...
He literally does one out of 3 things:
- play shitty games and cheats in them
- attempt to build a site without understanding the "why does it work?"
- bother me with dumb questions that have been asked 1000000 times on StackOverflow... -
This morning, my teacher in Integration course showed us a demonstration of Fourier series converging to the graph of their function using Maple.
He tells us it is advised to know how to use it and experiment in order to comprehend the lesson in a more intuitive way.
I check out the computers there to see if there is a licensed Maple software. There were none of it.
Okay then, can I get it to download on my PC ? Sure... For $100 to get a lifetime student version.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeck...2 -
This is for the people with gsoc knowledge.
Short :gsoc2020, good for final year student?
Long:
So i am having a lot of doubts regarding my future career. I have done a few internship, have decent knowledge of java/python and some other tech stacks (android/ data analytics, etc) .
I always had the dream of being selected in gsoc, but i was always too late to start preparing/applying, being busy in college stuff(lame excuse, i know)
But this year seems i can try my chances. College is all focussed about students getting a job, so they are pretty lenient. If i dedicate my full time to GSOC, i might crack it. But i would then be playing all my cards on this , as I won't be focusing on other companies' interviews and placement tests. Plus from what i know, its whole timeline takes around 5-6 months and ends somewhere in August-September (the time at which my college would be ending and my other peers would be starting a full time job)
So is it worth for a final year student like me to go for gsoc? I know it does gives a good weight to the resume, but is a heavy resume with no job in hand better than a light resume with a job in hand, for a passed out student? -
Hey guys I am looking for some career advice
I am currently a Bachelor's student in Melbourne, Australia and I am trying to source a placement (internship) but I have had no success in it
So if anyone could give me advice on how I could advance my career it would be great
P.S. I have also heard about the hidden job market here but I have no idea on how I could tap into that6 -
I always have doubt on myself that i will never to create a system, right now almost 20% eventho it was just 20% but it mean a lot to me 😢 #student #internshipproject

I added a class to our data classes that could be represented as a button in the dataview in the GUI instead of creating a proper UI for my problem
- It was quick
- I wasn't a full dev yet (more a student) and didn't want to learn how to create a GUI
- I saw it used in different places by more experienced devs even though I put a comment some time later to not use it because it breaks several concepts
- I get annoyed everytime I see it now ^^ -
Woke up today with the idea that I'm gonna make a website for myself now I'm a high school student and have 0 income so i thought ight well i will just use the github student developer pack .... oh wait my school blocks it ...... ight ill get a free .me domain from name cheap..... oh its blocked too ill try porkbun and get a free .design domain shit that offers over Ight ill try . Follow up my last rant which people thought it was my fault
The school called, the manager apologized and said the security guards are not trained that way and they were suppose to tell me multiple ways I can prove that I am a student. He promised me that this is not gonna happen anymore.
I did not fuck up, people5 -
There was a presentation day for the MSc I was participating in as a student.
The teacher was talking sassy things to a student that replied likewise and I stood up for him with reasoning and he just didn't like it (he wanted to be the boss in the class).
Then it came the time for my presentation. It was about augmented reality that I knew a lot of. So I opened the presentation and immediately the teacher threw some sassy things to me. So I stayed at the first page of the presentation that had the title and some fancy photos and screenshots and I started speaking about augmented reality from the ground up.
Needless to say, when I got to the second page the teacher had nothing bad to say and was almost admiring what I had to say.
I think you can call that badass. -
Hello , I am Student 1st year , studing Programming.
My dream is to be the most famous programmer in the world.I am hard worker.

What would you suggest to me ?4 -
I want to make a project
student analysis system
It works as
Student will signin in the site and upload their academic detail including roll no. marks of all the semesters, and other academic details then It will give them analysis of their academic performance like what is his rank in his class, in the department, and in the whole College. It will also show that in which subject he was week, in which subjects in upcoming semester he have to work to secure good percentage and a graph of his performance till now and change in graph if he follow according to us. It will also show the placement probability.
Now my question is which tech stacks should I use to make all this?
I know HTML CSS JS JAVA CPP and a bit of REACT. Js EXPRESS. JS MYSQL.
I am ready to work with other tech stack also.8 -
A colleague just posted code online for students for a practical with lots of bugs in it. Tomorrow the student will need to use this code to do analysis.2

Does anyone here know a student that is willing to get around 450 logo's from a website, resize them to a specific format and save them to a specific file name? Of course I will pay for it but as it is for a private project budget is limited, so preferably I'd like someone from a country where salaries are low so that I can pay a (hopefully more than) fair amount of euro's to him/her for this work.8

I'm a computer science student. My friend who's working in the industry rn told me that the android development field is shaking (bad kind of shaking). I really want to become an android developer. Is this true? Damn it.
P.S Android Studio, fix your damn ass, you're eating too much of my ram jeez5 -
So this my final year as an IT student, and I need to make a desktop app for the college which is about monitoring and diagnosing network flow and connected hardware, the question is: is there any stuff that can help and will it be better to use a specific language ?3

Back in the day when I was a student, I travelled for almost 3 hours by train multiple times per month... I played Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 on my laptop all the way. Surprisingly, even while wearing large headphones, I connected with many people who saw me playing a game that they loved.
RCT2 remains a brilliant game today. The OpenRCT2 project is very well maintained and I can highly recommend it if you want to play it on your modern computer. -

Hi everyone am a CS student.
Along with C/C++ taught in colleges, Am learning C# side by side and getting used to it.
So am learning it from internet PSA. I already did one C# course on udemy. And also practices a lot about the language features.
As it's very big language am really confuse what should I know more about that language. I mean which C#.NET classes are important in industry and which not and other stuff too.
So am just wanting answer from a specifically a C# developer which works in industry and uses it everyday.2 -

Finally purchased my t480s for university after mooonths of reading reviews and reddit posts. I hoped that the mbp refresh wouldn't be so expensive :( I've got a mid 2009 from work which no one used so they let me take it home and yeah to be honest i like it very much. i wanted learn programming for ios & android, but honestly paying 2,3K€ (student price for the 13" i5 16gb ram 512gb ssd) and having the risk of a (maybe or maybe not) failing keyboard and no chance of upgrading it is too risky for me and my wallet :( I paid 1,5K€ (again student price) for the thinkpad (i7 16gb ram 512gb ssd and the mx150) and i think i'll love it :)
Just wanted to share with you guys :) (i hope i didn't start a pc vs mac fight haha)2 -
I currently have a Surface Pro 3 and am wanting to upgrade. I'm a software dev student at my college and I'm noticing the performance is just slowly getting worse and worse. I recently reset it to start fresh, still slows down in overall performance and battery life.
Any good recommendations? If possible I would like to avoid the Pro due to the kickstand gimmick.7 -

I need some advices on how to do a react multiple steps form. A form allows student to submit their previous study and exchange credit in my univwrwity. Username and password at start. Then text fields, date selection, drop list with lots of data from backend, upload files. Click next to next steps or previous steps. It seems complicated. Thinking to use react and redux. Any advice...

Well sending emails to get sponsors and project for my 2 month long open-source hackathon is tiring and often end up with no reply :(
If anyone has a cool Opensource project we would love to have it here for students to learn opensource https://devscript.tech/woc/
It's a student-led hackathon without funds so would love some sponsors too.4 -

Student programmer's uncertainity principle
------------------------------------------------------
It is impossible to do programming and prepare for college exam simultaneously(Especially the day before exam)
