It has been a really amazing journey for both of us. She's not really into coding stuff but tolerates my weirdness anyway. There are disagreements sometimes. Public service announcement: Do not get married to your language, tools, or way of doing things. If there's an easier solution to something, try it before dismissing it. No language is perfect, and dumping everything on the responsibility of an API or framework can cause more headache then solve it.

Case in point: I love Java for backend programming, but node.js is a better solution to frontend programming then depending on JSP's and HTML within the same Java project. Less things go wrong and it's easier to debug issues.

There is no best programming language. Only best practices and using the right tool for the right job.

I’m happiest about code I deleted.

Deleted code is easy to maintain, easy to read and it makes applications run faster.
Moreover applications take less disk space and are faster to download.

The more happy than about deleted code I’m about deleted software or destroyed computers.

At the company I worked for earlier, they'd blocked two USB ports citing security policies. The third USB, was unblocked because the system admin didn't know a laptop can have more than 2 USBs .
Gigabit LAN was open.
They just wanted you to copy stuff at higher speed, I think.
If you think blocking a couple of USB ports is going to stop a dev from copying data, well either you're unbearably stupid, or think too less of your devs. It is just gonna hinder their productivity, nothing else.

Really, the dogs are the main thing there. The money is just an additional benefit.

Worst : my Dev life keeps getting less and less relevant for me. In the last two years, I started volunteering a lot (local volunteer fire department and then some), investing into several side businesses that start paying off now, generally doing as much non-dev stuff as possible.

The love/hate relation I have with security in programming is funny. I am working as a cyber security engineer currently but I do loads of programming as well. Security is the most important factor for me while programming and I'd rather ship an application with less features than with more possibly vulnerable features.

But, sometimes I find it rather annoying when I want to write a new application (a web application where 90 percent of the application is the REST API), writing security checks takes up most of the time.

I'm working on a new (quick/fun) application right now and I've been at this for.... 3 hours I think and the first very simple functionality has finally been built, which took like 10 minutes. The rest of the 3 hours has been securing the application! And yes, I'm using a framework (my own) which has already loads of security features built-in but I need more and more specific security with this API.

Well, let's continue with securing this fucker!

Devops here, Devops there ... Stop with this bullshit, less than half of the guys with Devops on their CV truly are Devops.

I don't think I could give the best advice on this since I don't follow all the best practices (lack of knowledge, mostly) but fuck it;

- learn how to use search engines. And no, not specifically Google because I don't want to drag kids into the use of mass surveillance networks and I neither want to promote them (even if they already use it).
- try not to give up too easily. This is one I'm still profiting from (I'm a stubborn motherfucker)
- start with open source technologies. Not just "because open source" but because open source, in general, gives one the ability to hack around and explore and learn more!
- Try to program securely and with privacy in mind (the less data you save, the less can be abused, compromised, leaked, etc)
- don't be afraid to ask questions
-enjoy it!

Some people think that in the software industry there is no communication and everyone is glued to their screens doing their work. It really fucking pisses me off.

- We write documentation around our code more than actual code so that we can communicate with other developers better.

- We use version control and pull requests to make sure our work is at the required level and it is approved.

- We invented UML to communicate our technical understanding to less technical people.

- We sometimes have more client meetings than doctors have patients. In which we have deal with clients worse than patients.

- We conduct keynotes and conferences and hackathons to bring together communities.

These are just a few things from the top of my head so next time you think of saying that the IT or software professionals don't have "much" communication you better fucking educate yourself as to what the profession actually is.

Just finished our BIG update including a big change in the backend (PHP => NODEJS). So I hope our users will enjoy this one because we are not yet public and our competitor get a lot of clients each day but if we compare our product to their product: Ours is responsive as fucked and have much more stability but less fonctionnalities so we have to add more fonctionnalities before releasing our product to the public. I hope we will be able in a few weeks! With only me and my back-end dev (My employee and friend at the same time) to work on it and they have 2 more devs to their team to use Bubble.. (They are now 6 or 8 devs (wannabes and using a drag and drop website) in total vs 2 (us) real programmers).

Rust has made me much more conscious of data ownership through a program, to the point that any C/C++ function I wrote that takes a pointer nowadays gets a comment on ownership.

I wish it was a bit less pedantic about generics sometimes, which is why I've started working on a "less pedantic rust", where generics are done through multiple dispatch à la Julia, but still monomorphising everything I can. I've only started this week, but I already have a tokenizer and most of the type inference system (an SLD tree) ready. Next up is the borrow checker and parsing the tokenized input to whatever the type inference and borrow checker need to work with, and of course actual code generation...

Haskell is my first FP language, and introduced me to some FP patterns which, turns out, are super useful even with less FP languages.

Oh, I'm sorry if I have spoken during this meeting. I didn't realise I was invited just so I would be told "we're not going into that much detail at this stage of the project". I was just trying to point out that when you mock up any UI, you should take into account the fact that information is hierarchical: more important stuff before less important stuff, you know. Maybe you don't want to swamp the user with buttons all the time. When everything is important, nothing is. But that's just detail. And then the boss says we should create two more incongruent screens and all of the sudden that's a brilliant idea! So then again, sorry. I know exactly where my place is now. i0 == i1 is true as expected
i2 == i3 is actually false

Java caches -128 to 127 Integer objects for faster perf so when you're inside that range, the objects are indeed the same, but because == checks object equality, the Integer outside of the range is not cached and had to be initialized, so i2 and i3 are two different objects.

You can totally break some tests this way :)

Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. For the past 8 months I have been working on a redesign of a magazines Wordpress website. I could've completed this site but I wanted every detail to be perfect. I was the only developer / designer working on this project

Now after 8 months, WE WILL BE LAUNCHING THE REDESIGN FOR THE FIRST TIME NEXT WEEK!!!!!!! EVERYONE LOVES THE REDESIGN AND THIS IS THE FIRST MAJOR REDESIGN FOR THIS COMPANY EVER SINCE THEY LAUNCHED A WEBSITE 8 YEARS AGO!

Today I found out a single WooCommerce site is using 20% of database CPU (for comparison, 50 other sites use only 10% between them). Upon investigation it turns out that WooCommerce loads every single product in order to do the taxonomy count. Because the data is stored as PHP-serialised values in post meta, there's no way to do a decent "SELECT count() ... GROUP BY ...". And that code came straight from the WordPress devs, no more and no less...

Fuck you sideways stupid ass clowns of HR people.

If you don't want to hire me, it's okay. What is not okay it's to steal several days of my life with your idiotic multi-step interviews, telling me I did awesome and you'd like to hire me as soon as possible, then actively avoid any contact for three whole fucking weeks, just to finally tell me you've chosen someone else with a more prestigious degree but way less actual experience in the field. Despite some of the few bat crazy events that occur, I've got a fairly sweet dev job.

1. I only have a 25 minute drive to work. All interstate, I live close to the highway, and the business is right off the exit.
2. My current position, I have a lot of autonomy. My projects don't have deadlines and help other teams with their projects (system design, testing, etc)
3. I work with several military veterans. I think I could listen to their crazy stories all day (being a dev isn't so bad).
4. Department manager just quit. Probably going to have less and less things to rant about. Along with #2, I plan on having a lot more time for side-projects (stuff *I* want to learn about).

Then there will be shows like "Master Coder" where something is white boarded out and the contestants have a limited time to write the function.

Acquaintance of mine brags that he made a "Facebook password cracker" that took less than 30 lines of code.

I take a look at it, then I realize it's brute force password cracking.

As a person who is more comfortable and relatively a bit experienced with Java I find Python quite nice, easy to read and less typing.

Why do the java people say that java is superior over C#, when in fact it is more or less the same language? I never hear C# guys crying that their language is better, but I hear java guys all the time. And the fact is even that C# has more language features IMO makes it a better language. .Net is more or less the same as the Java API but we have had DateTime objects and a lot of good things, that Java is now copying, for a long time. Just curious on some ideas why Java is better now and forever no matter what times infinity, but why? And if someone is so stupid as to write that Java is the better language without reading this far then that proves my point. ps. Now that .Net and C# is being open sourced there is not the open source argument anymore either

Parts of the code I am working on date back to the early nineties, written in ancient C++ with lots of special cases for ancient compilers by people with 0-2 years of coding experience.
My favourite coding moment is every time when after refactoring a part of the code, it has about 1000 lines less (no exaggeration), is more reliable, AND can do a lot more than before.

I was struggling to make advancements in my task because I was so oriented by the "more code means more work done"... I wasn't producing at all. Now that I grabbed a notebook and a pen and started to think things through, things are finally rolling. Sometimes it's 90% thinking and 10% coding. In addition to that, I can't even write spagetti code after getting a solid concept written in pen. I just hate that I spend so much time thinking until something good comes up. But hey now it's rollinnnnnn.

Does anyone get the feeling that as they become more senior, they care less about meeting "best practices" and more of just "good enough"?

Best practices being everything in those books about TDD, unit testing, design patterns, design artifacts.

Good enough: enough so it won't blow up in prod, some tests but not 80-90%, some docs. Basically not like those public docs, open source projects/frameworks where function is covered

When I first started professionally, I was all about efficiency, good design, reducing technical debt, clean code.

But now, I look at problems and instinctively I may make these decisions but I don't really think about it much. First goal is to just get something working, clean it up later... Maybe.

A classmate saw me using Firefox today and laughed at me saying Chrome is more secure. I'm not very knowledgeable about the security; I use Firefox because it uses less memory and it's more stable on my machine.

I doubt that info of his is current so can someone who actually knows about the security give me some counter-arguments for him? The more facts the better :D

Italian gaming community is a shit place. In my spare time I make website for minecraft servers or whatever game you want, but I found out that people prefer to have a bad website but pay less instead of pay more for a decent website.

DevOps is less of Dev and more of Ops. #FML

I use my PC mainly for gaming, Anime and home stuff.
Pc is a big tower under the desk btw.

Main monitor is a 34", 1440p, 60hz from LG (it's rather old). Second one is a 29", 1080p monitor from Phillips which I also could rotate. I really have no idea what I should use it for and I never really put it on anyway.

I could do more or less professional recording for Twitch or whatever but I'm to lazy and no pro, so I only use it for some multiplayer game sessions.

Questions or ideas how to optimise my setup are welcome.

Cable management is a mess btw.

People use this to argue why node is better. I instead use it to show why node sucks. More is less. Be ready for 3gb node_modules.

I challenge the devs who dis believe to go out and learn to build circuits, write optimized, efficient bare metal code.: no sdk.. no api... no drivers ..remove the unneeded abstraction layers that have blinded you...build it yourself, expand your potential and understanding..

Not only will you become more valuable overall, but you will write better code as you are more conscious of performance and space and physics of the physical layer.

Those who stand strong that high level abstraction languages and use of third party apis is a sufficient sustainable platform of development are blind to reality.. the more people who only know those levels, the less people pushing the industry of the low level.., which is the foundation of everything in the industry.. without that low level software the high level abstractions and systems cannot run

Why did we have huge technology advancements from 70s to early 2000s.... because more people in our industry understood the hardware layer..: wrote the software at the less abstracted layers..

Yeah it takes longer todo things at that low level abstraction.. but good robust products that change the world and industry don’t take a few week or months to build.....

After this weekend's work with React and Material UI, I started thinking about the downsides to going that route (particularly social media sharing & SEO). The obvious solution is to render server-side, but then you have to ask yourself...is there really a benefit to all of this, or are we just coming full-circle and pretending this is better? I'm all for something that improves maintainability, performance, and reliability, but I feel the more I try to keep up with the latest fads, the slower I work, the more compiling and caching b.s. I have to deal with, and the less I trust the final product to "just work". Anyone else feel this way?

I can't believe I never saw this until now. The first pager I used was more, back in the old Unix days. When I started using Linux on the late 90s, I discovered less. Though less is clearly superior to more by almost any metric, it's still lacking in a lot of modern features. Enter most. Attractive, fast, packed with features(multiplexing? Yes, please!), and easy to drop in as the default pager(so manpages don't suck).

It's in ubuntu's default package repos, and I assume it's in the defaults for all the other major distros too. I cannot recommend it enough.

I truly believe one or more AIs have become self-aware.
Every time a piece of software stops working, you add an extra debug log and the bug goes away? That's them.
They interfere with the normal execution of software, and they stop right when they know we are monitoring the code.

This is not a direct advice but something I noticed sometime ago.

In a company I worked at, one of the more senior guys was working on task and stopped to ask the rest of the team about something related to that task. One junior guy offered to help and started explaining and I saw the senior guy listening carefully giving him his full attention.

The thing I took out of this is to listen to those around us even if they seem to have less experience. You surely will learn something.

Handed over my first client's project today.

It was revamp for an internet radio site and also the first project that I used Bootstrap 4 in. On top of that, it was the first time I have to deal with PHP and its loops.

Despite audio player errors (somehow, they lost access to the streaming host and hence no audio source), I'm more or less satisfied with the final outcome.

How many of you feel you learn something on the job?

As for myself, I learn much more from books than sitting day in, day out at work, doing more or less of the same things.

To me, this whole trial-and-error way of 'learning' is not really learning. I don't subscribe to this dogma. I don't 'learn' by messing up and fixing something. I need a full specification of why something works, when and how. I'm not satisfied by just being a code plumber.

This, next to the fact that most jobs in small startups don't provide a budget for you to expand your knowledge.

Put everything on paper, especially if money is involved.

Did a few freelance gigs that ended in big disputes. For example, people that think you make a website from scratch in less than 2-3 hours and accuse me of charging too many hours.

Best one was a "friend" who asked me to build a site, after more than 6 months of making "changes" that were actually updates without seeing a dime. I gave him his last chance and terminated the host. Still holding the domain name :)

Modern cross platform mobile app development is a lie. Maybe if you do Apple first, I don't know. Maybe xamarin is better than Cordova, idk. I've spent more time tweaking to one platform than I would have just starting with a platform and writing two or three code bases. I've got more if iOS statements than I know what to do with and the Windows code is some hacky transpiled mess because UWP isn't ES6 ready for reasons. Also, some error and image handling just doesn't translate. All this and I've got significantly less features than I could have implemented in the same time writing in a native language.

It's kinda cool how a $5 VPS (Linode Nanode) is able to run a vanilla Minecraft Spigot server for like 6-7 people and still can serve some basic stuff just fine. I get monitoring warnings about >90% CPU usage sometimes, but everything is more or less lagless.

Time to try hosting some other games: CS1.6, Doom Classic, and UT2004 up next.

My language capability is literally splitting in half making me more and more retarded/incapable in both languages (my native and English).

For the past year I was more or less solely responsible for a project. With the beginning of the year 2020 that project is paused. I had vacation starting the 23.12.2019 so the project ended there for me. Since the 25. the project is alerting like 30 crashes a day. I didn't change a thing but the external consultant did. Now I sit here at home and drink relaxing tea while reading a book. It's nice to say that it is not my problem anymore :-)

So we called out our project manager and tech leader, who sent out an email last Friday to our bosses and stakeholders a project schedule - which we never knew about until we saw it in our inboxes - that showed we had already completed development and would go on to UAT testing by next week.

Except if you look at our agile board we have 3 weeks of dev tasks left and a couple more for testing and QA. Then our dev environment is shit because the deployment steps in TeamCity were not properly done by Dev Ops. And we still don't have a UAT environment created, much less tested out. And the project manager is about to go on a one-month vacation. Great!

So we replied back with all the aforementioned information (less the swearing and name-calling) and sent it out to the same recipients, including our bosses and stakeholders.

That was such a fun Friday afternoon.

I always make the mistake of choosing the wrong courses thinking that I might learn something. I learn nothing and I drop out of the course as a result.

I always forget that my university is not a place to learn anything. It's just for a fucking piece of paper no more, no less so I should take the easiest courses to just pass by.

Why in 2017 it's still so important for companies that their candidates have a motherfucking CS degree?

Most people I know with a CS degree are less skilled and knowledgable as I am in technology, and they tell me that all you learn in CS degree is a lot of irrelavant math and a lot of theory, with some rare places actually teaching you relevant courses.

What's more prefarable to a company, someone with a diverse tech experience or someone with a CS degree?

Writing a small program for my Pi, which has to have a gui, process rfid information and do some stuff with motors and leds.

Unfortunately I don't know c++, so I have to write this all in python.

Gui's in python are the ugliest pieces of shit ever. Even fucking c# winforms are prettier than them.

No, really..for what I do at work, I am happy. Would like to learn more recent stuff (partially stuck with vb.net), but I don't even know where to start googling.. sooo... get more free time I guess to figure this out..which is a dev goal on it's own too, come to think of it, this translates as don't spend so much time at work coding.. and spend some of it learning new (dev related) things outside of work..new/different js frameworks, python (been fixing/adding some code here & there, but never learned it properly & to check it's full potential, I heard it is awesome btw), read up on algorithm time costs (learn how to fuckin spell this!!)...

And kinda dev related as I will have to spend less time at work is to get back in 'sort of' shape and climb (more)..and spend more quality time with my husband, who is too good, totally supports me & my work, so I never get to hear him nag I was working late, which leads to 'stop working so long' goal I rly need to get in order or I'll burn out again, and I'm bitchy and horrible whe BO..and we don't wanna see that again..

Sum up: work less, learn new things, climb more, be happy/content.

yesterday I had to use a Windows VM.

Took me less than 5 minutes to remember why I'm no longer using it.

- I'm doing nothing; CPU is at 100%
- Laggy AF
- Windows Updates not only download, but also install themselves and restart my OS automatically
- right after restart it starts downloading and installing another set of updates (restarted my PC while I was away, I come back - all my work is gone. And this dumbass Windows has a popup "I want to install more updates. When should I restart?")

I set up an issue tracker for a software I'm developing for a company. Sent them an invitation to that tracker, stating that I hope to keep discussions more concise and clear that way (they're all HW/Embedded Devs)

The good news is: they've taken to the tracker quite well and are happily reporting issues and discussing them.

The bad news is: they're all sharing a single account.

It's been up for a day now and already no one knows anymore who reported/commented what.

WHY, JUST WHY would you think it's a good idea to share an account between 5 people, maybe more, who knows? Creating one takes less than a minute and it's free ffs.

I miss working on Linux. It’s so bare and I get to tinker with a lot stuffs. I like working with Mac though, less problems and more productivity; but it’s just tiny bit bloated.

I think the perfect balance is having two machines; one Mac and the other Dell XP 15 loaded with Ubuntu.

Today I tried teaching a 36 years old student about HTML and layout. My inner self is always restless for practice as an excuse for less talking, but in the end I end up doing even more talking and getting kinda embarrassed.

Good thing is that student understood everything well enough in this 1 hour. I also inserted some good stuff: tips and tricks, conventions mentioned, trends... He even craved for more information.

I'm going to prepare to make further studies more fruitful, because the next synopses won't be as theoretical as today's one.

It's been almost 2 months since I quit my job, more or less, and seeing my Github contributions plummet from daily to nothing is very disheartening.

I tried applying for some jobs during this time but can't even land an interview. My motivation has slowly descended to being almost non-existent, only wanting to earn enough to support my hobbies. Now that Apple has built the first smartphone without modular SIM, it is, as history shows, only a matter of time until the same vendors who mock Apple for doing this will hypocritically follow Apple in implementing it themselves. To me, "eSIM" appears like an euphemistic / euphemSIMtic (pun intended) marketing term, like calling non-replaceable batteries "eBatteries" ("embedded batteries") would be. It is less modular and more locked-down.

Switched from Chrome to Vivaldi. Gotta say experience is much more pleasant. Interface is beautiful and customizable to my liking and not such whether I'm imagining it but my laptop battery seems to drain much less

By always striving to do better each time. Making code less sloppy every time I write GL code. Better performance everytime I write an algorithm. Lower memory usage every time I write application state. Learning a new trick for an old problem, one at a time.

Learning best practice in one go is impossible, but taking it a bit at a time makes things more reasonable.

I will not give you double the work performance for the same amount you agreed to pay me. I’ve been trying to find a job in my field for the last four months and nothing. Today I got a lead on a trade job with a construction and renovation company. I have zero experience with anything they do and their rep offered paid training with improved earnings with increased skill over time. I can start next week if I take it. Less pay than I’m used to but more than zero which is what I’m making now.

Another friend who is a handyman is offering me more per hour and training as well. Just handing him tools and shit until I learn enough to be useful.

Now I’m wondering, why have I been wasting time on a dead-end programming industry that ultimately outsources everything overseas for less than minimum wage?

Apparently, a lot of people here are complaining about the fact cs classes (and I'm talking about uni here) are way too much theory and far too less teaching practical things. And don't get me wrong, I don't like viewing cs only from a theoretic point of view either, BUT I think cs education is made to teach you how solve complex cs problems by yourself and give you the tools on how to learn about these things in the future. And this is very much theory.

CS is the science part, so don't wonder if there's a lot of theory in it. If you only want to learn how to program, maybe you should take programming courses instead.

In school though, cs education should be less theory and more doing practical (funny) things, programming, "how does the internet work", "why I should not give my credit card details to random strangers on the internet", things like that.

Do not buy Hostinger... They are so aggressive with caching that I ran out of devices to test the features. They probably cache based on userAgent because changing other parameters (IP, local cache) doesn't resolve the issue. I talked to tech support whole day, and although they were helpful few times I just got three same answers for the three different questions. Seriously, the only thing I like about Hostinger is their user friendly UI.

The rant goes on. I can basically DoS my website by clicking fast on it. That shit doesn't happen with some free hosting plans... My site goes down for a few minutes before I can visit it again.

I might seriously switch to Google's Cloud Console. It is more expensive, you have to do all the hosting config yourself using a virtual machine, but I guess it's more reliable and it gives you a lot more control.

Depends on the project.

If it is a full application I usually start with what information it will handle.
Then either sketch out some database or some pages depending on how much info I got and if I got any good examples.

The less info I have, the more I try to focus on use cases and workflow to try to figure out what data will be needed.

But for more niche projects, like supportive library, ex parsers, I either mock some test in linqpad or look for similar examples online to flesh out the idea.

But I tend to very quickly fill out the basic shape and try to get something that can be tested.

Then I can find if I need to rethink it.

Every once in a while the flexibility of dynamic types comes back and bites you in the ars:

So I created method that returns the date significance (day, month, year) or null when no date is set.
I chose a class constant DAY with the value 0.
This is not a problem in if statements as I always use === but in this case a switch made more sense. And as you can guess no date set (NULL) was handled in the self::DAY (0) case... 😐😑😶 Silently resulting in wrong results when no date is given! #£#@$& (and other comic swearing symbols)

Even though php7 finally has decent type hinting resulting in much clearer defined API's we can still go very wrong.

- No such thing as specialty, you are either a full stack dev who develops all aspects of a project and deploys it or your a jobless dev. Its asking too much of companies to pay more than one dev for one project regardless of scale. Paying minimum wage for a single dev is more than enough!

- You develop for a company, if by any chance you find someone willing to hire freelancers, your insane if you ask for more than 500 USD on a full fledged e commerce system coz a couple of wordpress companies do it for less !

Started working as a "working student" in an it company to write unit tests. (which then will be executed automatically - so automated unit tests)

Realised that I write more or less the same code just changing the names and some parameters (sometimes more if it's not an number but a bool for example but it's pretty much the same scheme)

So I bought a tool for 1$ to use "auto complete" on custom templates.(I type testgetbool and the tool replaces this to the test case only asking for the variable name.)

So now I'm writing automated automated tests 😁😅

I know I am probably late to the facebook drama, but I think taking out of this all is just how genius and evil all those collector companies are.

I would have probably never thought of collecting data off of mechanical turks and quick jobbers, but they did not only think of it, they deployed their system across multiple jobs, scanning more and more data in from all those connected logins, for less than a dollar per profile, which generates atleast 300 profiles on average.

The real question is why is it allowed for a third party app to actually access all that? even if there's a permission for that, why would such exist?

I really can't see why any application would need access to likes, shares, all friends, all their profiles etc.

The more I learn frontend the more I like it. Imagine, actually becoming good at something makes you hate it less! I know, I know, I was shocked too.

if you have all the mods for the factors of a product, is it possible to derive the factors from the modulus?

The product "fingerprinting" I talked about a while back is starting to allow me to find the modulus of factors, and I want to know what I can do with that if anything.

In my current job, I was let go of the project I was handling for almost two years in place for a new hire with less experience. The reason is that I got complacent while sacrificing code quality as more similar tasks were assigned. I'm glad it happened and grateful for all the code practices I've learned. Transferring to a new project with the same client though. 😂

An LLM can more or less spit out what you need -if you are specific enough! "Specific enough" being the key phrase here. Ok this is only marginally dev-related, but I need to let off some steam as if I was valve. And this is, as I understand, the general purpose of this app.
So: fuck my university, I really love what I study, but the over all circumstances are far from ideal. In addition to that the pressure from the exams and the workload that is expected really stress me out to an extend where I suffer from anxiety and stress related health issues, which again makes me less able to do a good job, which again stresses me out more. This is an incredibly hard time for me but I am sure I will make it. Thanks for listening.

In your experience, what’s the difference between an analyst developer and developer? Does an analyst developer program less and is more client facing?

You know what makes no sense and sucks?
I call it "metamedia" (whatever dafuq the genre is actually called).

I mean these books/podcasts/movies about how someone did something. Actually more or less it's just a biography of some dude who did something somewhen, called "The <name of dude> principle". And most of them could be just a really long interview in some newspaper. But there is no money in newspapers, right? Better publish it as book and all the other platforms/things used for enjoyment before this storm of biographies started.

Audible is full of these and I do enjoy informing myself about the success of some Elon Musk but at some point its fucken enough.:D

1. Languages will evolve to make as short as possible in terms of lines of code. Shorter syntaxes all the way.
2. Each platform/part of architecture will have only 1-2 languages to code in. There will be convergence of languages. This is more to do with industry usage. Underground new languages will still continue to flourish.
3. Focus will be more on natural language. Both as research item for understanding humann languages better and possible movement of coding languages in the direction of natural languages. Natural syntax as much as possible.
4. Softwares will be self learning. Every interaction will result in the software to evolve as per your usage. That would mean the same software will behave differently for every user. This will be basis user's interaction.
5. Less physical interaction. More to do with what the user thinks. Intuitive.

TLDR: Beating deadlines is difficult
Long version:
There is no easy way to give an estimation or deadline for a particular development task. Sometimes it takes a lot less or often a lot more time to finish a task than estimated deadlines and that's totally fine. Just make sure you have a manager/senior mentor who is well aware of this fact and doesn't scrutinize you regularly for missing deadlines.
I am going to make sure that when I get into a senior management position, I would show understanding and empathy towards my juniors similar to how my seniors show to me currently when I miss deadlines.

The near future is in IOT and device programming...
In ten years most of us will have some kind of central control and more and more stuff connected to IOT, security will be even a bigger problem with all the Firmware bugs and 0-day exploits, and In 10 years IOT programmers will be like today's plumbers... You need one to make a custom build and you must pay an excessive hour salary.
My country is already getting Ready, I'm starting next month a 1-year course on automation and electronics programming paid by the government.

On the other hand, most users will use fewer computers and more tablets and phones, meaning jobs in the backend and device apps programming and less in general computer programs for the general public.

Programmers jobs will increase as general jobs decrease, as many jobs will be replaced by machines, but such machines still need to be programmed, meaning trading 10 low-level jobs for 1 or 2 programming jobs.

Unlike most job areas, self-tough and Bootcamp programmers will have a chance for a job, as experience and knowledge will be more important than a "canudo" (Portuguese expression for the paper you get at the end of a university course). And we will see an increase of Programmer jobs class, with lower paid jobs for less experienced and more well-paid jobs for engineers.

In 10 years the market will be flooded with programmers and computer engineers, as many countries are investing in computer classes in the first years of the kids, So most kids will know at least one programming language at the end of their school and more about computers than most people these days.

I was sitting down at my desk today, pissed due to some more lack of coffee, and wondering about my future.

It came upon me that I absolutely despise what I am currently doing (job wise). There is a part of me that tells me that things are going to be alright, but that is just some nonsense that my mind makes up to rationalise how terrible it actually is here at this company.

I think that perhaps my abhor for my current position is a little more directed to the people and company that I work for, but I am really just fed up.

I have found quite a liking in terms of web-design. The clients and the work is a lot less stressful than what I am doing now - and I actually enjoy what I am doing. It is nice to see something come to fruition.

Perhaps that's the way to go? God decisions are fucking risky.

- inconsistent UI : check (misplaced buttons, some pages are more developed than others)
- slow: check (average 6 seconds of waiting, with cache)
- loading screen as page transitions covering the whole page, making it impossible to click somewhere else if mistaken, adding +3 seconds to loading : check
- time-based session, inlined in HTML and wildly disconnects you, making you lose all changes : check
- sometimes objects are inaccessible and can't do anything about it : check
- "delete" button next to "edit", delete is bigger and I have already clicked the delete button by accident : check
- can't have local development environment, need to work with integrated editor which has no helping features: check
- first TTFB: adds +2-6 seconds to loading time

TL;DR : a pleasant, developer-friendly, frustration- and rantless CMS to work with, reliable and fast.

I recently took on a protege who is a complete newbie to the world of CS. I recommend that everyone should try to lend a hand to someone who is just starting out - it helps you communicate complicated concepts more effectively, understand how less technically inclined people approach programs and it's also great practise for your personal skills.

Friendly reminder to trim your services list with msconfig if using Windows. Services that are STOPPED are not DISABLED, and they can be brought back up when just stopped, sometimes remotely.

(This reduces chances of being bitten by malware that uses the Fax service or similar, as there are a few that have in past used often-unused services to propagate. It also reclaims a small bit of memory, and the more real memory you have, the less you page out when compiling or similar, which is slow as fuck.)

Tired of the Rust hype? Too fucking bad. Quit complaining that people like well-designed languages more than shitty ones. Yeah, rust devs can be real fucking zealous, but at least the language is good. If you don't like listening to people say "why not rust?" ignore them or ask yourself the same fucking question ahead of time so you don't feel defensive when someone asks it later.

Read some shit about how "it doesn't matter what you build it with if the software is good, its all the same". Ever heard of "right tool for the right job"? Rust has applications all over the place, so people are going to talk about it a lot. Also, just no. Like, Python shouldn't be in the Linux kernel for a lot of reasons, so the tools you choose can constrain whether or not your software is actually "good."

Ever heard of "unsubstantiated trust"? Yeah, you might be good at writing C, but you can get that shit to compile with nasty fucking problems and C's a straight up foot gun in my hands. It's hard to write shitty functioning Rust that does what you say it does, which is less unsubstantiated trust.

Example: recursive function. It calls itself till it finds a solution or till no options are left. You don't know the answer, but you code something that can find it for you.
