I've been learning carpentry, farming, DIY power generation etc. The goal is to be self-sufficient and go live in a fucking jungle someday. I'm thinking about doing a live coding stream on twitch this saturday, late afternoon or evening (CET).
I've never done a live stream before.

Do you have any suggestions or interests?
I'm thinking about something like a small RESTful API with Angular4/TypeScript (frontend, single page application) and CraftCMS/PHP (backend) with somebasic theory about HTTP requests / response, redirecting, data transfer and interfaces et cetera...

The duration will be around 2-4 hours, maybe longer if I have enough Mate & Beer.

Got this email yesterday, it was about one of my projects. THIS is what I live for.

My favourite devTool is VS Code, especially since the last update. But considering that versioning should be more important than a specific IDE, Gitlab is THE tool. I couldn't live without it. <3

I live in zurich switzerland one of the most expensive places to live. And i work as a jack of all trades graphic ux/ui designer/copy writer/marketeer in IT security.

Download mint iso, dd it into an usb drive, boot it up in uefi mode, .... /dev/sda read error: -110. Fuck, must be smth w/ secure-boot. Disable it, rinse and repeat. Same error. Wtf, could my drive be broken?

My hands started shaking today when I was about to resize a partition on a live, production hypervisor.

Who came up with the idea that the only way to *inflate* a partition was to fricking delete it and recreate it again?!

I know that as long as I keep its start at the same disk sector and only increase the partition size, not decrease it, its gonna be fine. Still. Deleting stuff on a live system makes me nervous.

I once accidentally deleted the live versions of my websites instead of the development versions (which I wanted to delete because I was going to start over from the live versions.) After several hours of digging through backup folders, I finally found the latest backup files, which were a few months old.

It took me a few hours to get the backed up versions to the same version they were when they were live. In all this, I have learned to keep the live and development versions of my sites in completely different locations.

Site live for over 8 months, client contacts me saying a web form is not working. Check through code missing $ on a variable. Shit, it must never have worked. Trying to think of a plausible and client friendly excuse.

Thanks, AfterShip.com, for working flawlessly while the system I was building was in dev/test mode and for the first few days in live mode, then completely crapping the bed the first day I needed you to work with real tracking data with the live system. You were the ONE thing that was working consistently well, and you had to go and ruin it.

no one taught me how to host anything web, i had to figure out how to get things live by myself. it was awful, documentation on that stuff sucks, but i got through it knowing far more than when i started.

So one of my employees pointed it local setup on the live database to test some weird behavior in an algorithm. Then he starte the next task and wiped his database to reload the fixtures. After that he realized, that he still had the live database credentials in his configuration file.

Someone once forced my team to make something live on a Friday, that wasn't ready and wasn't tested properly. I said no and had to go pick up the kids from school. Found out later they made one my team stay late to finish it and push it live, even though I told everyone to leave on time.

Lots of meetings the week after where I got told off for standing up for my principles. Eventually reached an agreement.

At least some common ground was found and changes were no longer pushed before the weekend.

I'd like to get into cars, also too expensive where I live. I like playing video games, but I suck at them and they bring me no feeling of having accomplished something. Sports? Suck at them too. I'd like to ski, but I live in South America. I just don't know what to do with my free time. Programming feels like a chore nowadays, but it's all I have.

Client's Devs Yesterday: "We are ready for a production test, and should be ready to go live in 1 week."

Today after successful test: "We need 6 weeks of production before going live"

How can you be so far off on your timelines? A solo dev has done this same flow in like three weeks. It has already been three months...

I'm trying to do something different from the usual and need your help.
I want to install linuxCNC in a pen drive (as in a live CD, but with the file system in the PEN which is usable)
I want to plug it into my mother's laptop, use it with my machines, then just unplug and it will run the native windows for my father.

How can I do this'?
I only find Live CDs, and I'm afraid of ruining my OS when If I try to install (afraid of installing on the SSD instead of the PEN).

Someone called me and asked why wasn't Linux live USB working. I asked him to check whether safe boot was disabled from bios. His reply I can't find boot settings in windows settings.

This would not be a big thing if it was some non technical person. The person who called me was a CS student.

So I was reverse proxying this new Social network app's API and saw an interesting endpoint

It was a websocket relaying what each live user's doing every 2.5s, to power the "xyz typing" under a post, or a simple online/idle.
The app's "live posts" ie most-recently created posts was also powered by it since they knew each user's state (instead of a periodic API call)

The performance is good even tho it's a new company + enough users

but now im curious how prevelant state-management is using such websockets .-.

if not taxing, i might move any API call which ive to ping every 15s or less to a live WS
