*after 2 hours of programming*
Me to me: you can watch one episode of [some series]!
Me to me after that episode: just one more couldn't hurt for once!

*five hours later*
Me: "what am I doing with my life 😭
This happens too fucking damn often 😫11 -
Manager: Hurry up and login, I don’t have all day
Dev: One sec I have to lookup my password for the system
Manager: How can you not remember your password? Everything requires it these days
Dev: I use a different password for each service.
Manager: Wow you really like to overcomplicate things. Just use the same one for everything like I do, it’s way more efficient!
Dev: …19 -
The only thing I hate about being the on call/standby server engineer is that I've got to stay up until midnight.
Right now I'm tired as fuck, just want to go to bed but I'm doing server stuffs because I've got to stay up for more than two more hours 😩
I don't even mind setting an alarm for 3AM to check if there've been any disruptions because I'll fall back asleep like it's nothing but the forcing to stay awake...
Just one more night!12 -
Now there was this meeting where our boss called our team to reach at exactly 8:00 . One minute more and you will be fired.
Turns out he himself reached at 8:15 for the meet. And we were just staring him, wanting to say, "Hey boss, you don't need to come anymore. YOU ARE FIRED."9 -
It's 2017, I've got a bird on my shoulder and a stressball on my desk, everything is alright.
( I should be working on that SQL statements I generated instead of writing them out right now)
Just one more thing
I ♥️ DevRant27 -
I just hate npm dependencies.
If you want to write a small website with npm dependencies (some frontend deps like Bootstrap and some development deps like gulp or babel) you will have more npm dependencies in your project than own code. It is ridiculous, how some lazy developers just add dependencies to their projects, without evaluating their dependencies. The source code of one of my projects is around 4MB (without any dependencies). If you then run yarn as required, it grows to around 80MB (where 73MB are node_modules).
This is just terrible.
I rant about this, as I made the mistake to upload my node_modules directories when restoring a backup of my server. Worst idea one could ever have.9 -
The best I have seen and exploited was years ago with a web shop that allowed me to set my own check-out price by just inspecting the element and setting the desired price. It just happily advanced to the next step where they invoked the payment provider with my custom price. Unfortunately the shop doesn't exist anymore. I have encountered many more security leaks but this one was so easy and lucrative to exploit.3

So apparently using utf8 with LaTeX isn't enough to get € symbol working, I have to include two more packages for that (two, because one handles the character, and the other one makes it look "not weird"). How hard can it be to just use a single utf8 font, and have it work with whatever utf8 character you type in? And apparently there are at least 3 packages specifically for euro symbol - a certain XKCD comic comes to mind...11

My father just told me that I'm not a good programmer, because there are kids out there, who are younger than me and know more programming languages.
Besides the fact that the number of programming languages one knows has nothing to do with programming skills, I just said: "I wanna see that kid.", because I already knew his answer.
"Well, I never said there are many of these kids."
*facepalm*9 -
I hate how one of my hobbies can get me tipsy so easily.
It's really hard to combine it with the working life sometimes 😖😩
I just love special beer(s), it's more than just beer for me, it's a hobby!22 -
Buzzwords.
I can't fucking stand it when people use them in the entirely wrong context, just to sound smart, or whatever very much wrong or invalid reason.
But, I also can't fucking stand it when people, just because some word is a buzzword, invalidate/demonize it by default when it *IS* used in the right context.
I see this last one more and more and it annoys me to death.5 -
So I just started to use devRant on browser and noticed it shows the whole text from a rant, instead of putting read more just like the one on phone. Created a script for that thanks to @JoshBent12

Friend: Hey can you check my code, can't seen to find this one error, and i have been trying for hours now.
Me: Just one error?
Friend: Ya, just one. And it i am not in a hurry, check it whenever you can.
Me: *understanding the pain of not finding that one fucking error*
Cool, just send me the code i ll check it tonight.
Later that night i check the code, debugg that error, shit ton of more error pop up.
Me: Well i have solved the one error, now i can just hand over the rest of the code to the guy so he can take care of the rest, its not like i am responsible or aything. HOWEVER, maybe i can solve few more, just for fun, i can't just let this code get the better of me.
*ends up clearing all the error after a lomg night*4 -
The moment when you begin to understand just about any programming language because you mastered one. And you solve problems much more effectively.12

Coding has changed my life in a way where I no longer look for simple answers. I look at things deeper and more logically.
That this picture for example, I was at a pub quiz and got this handout, #2 I was thinking was hex, or the ASCII table or some sort of shifted by one arrangement. Nope! They just put numbers between the fucking letters!?!?!??5 -
I'm such a fucking moron! I had a programing test at university today, there where two excercises and two hours time. Finished the first one within 20min, but couldn't crack the second one. As time went by, I got more and more nervous. My hands started shaking. I couldn't think straight. I should just have steped outside, ask for a bathroom break, whatever. But no, I wanted to solve it!
Went home after the timelimit. Sat down, wrote the same thing I had in my head, compile, test and would have gotten all the points. I was able to do in 20min when relaxed, what I wasn't able in 1h 40min.
Fuck me.5 -
Q: WHO THE FUCK USES EXCEL FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT?
A: My Product Manager
Excel because she cant wrap her head around using Trello. WHAT THE FUCK!
Some people exist just to make things more difficult for everyone else. Fucking pain in the ass.
This person is one of the most incompetent one I have ever met.
I dont have enough words to express my rage right now.13 -
18 hours can't fix a bug

The deeper I dig into HP's designs, the more I realize how amazing they are.
- Let's put 18.5V on our charger label
- Let's make it actually put out 20V, just because 🤪
(Note: this is a SMPS, not one of those old linear ones where that's normal)
- Let's make our charger output positive on not only 1 line, but also a second smaller one, just because. All the while the thicker line is more than capable enough, and the same size as the negative line.
(So essentially there's 2 positives, one negative)
- Fuck conventional wiring colors (red for positive, black for negative). Let's awaken our 'murican patriotism and make positive black, and negative white.
- Oh those are the colors for American AC lines and not DC lines? I had no idea! But look, I have a shiny piece of paper and you don't so your concern is invalid!
I lost more brain cells from these realizations than I would from a whole night of binge drinking. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU HP?!!15 -
When the client says "I just need a really easy edit, shouldn't take more than a few minutes."
*in my head* "Oh really? Can you do it? No? Then don't tell me how easy it is going to be to find the one line of code I need to edit out of thousands of lines in hundreds of files." -
Boss: don't worry about the architecture, it's an one-off project, just make it work...
2 months later...
Boss: hey, remember that one-off project? we need to add in a few more features... Also can we reuse that code for this new one-off project we have to do for this new client?3 -
I like frontend when using no frameworks. I also like when websites use no frameworks and don't write unnecessary code. So that I can use it even if my mobile internet speed gets locked at 16K and from the consumer perspective I think especially in Europe developers should consider this. Moreover I think it's generally more fun to just write your own site from scratch, it will take longer but it will allow one to be more creative and the whole experience will be more fulfilling.12

Hi, rant. I've just finished one of my hobby work. :D
Just another O'RLY book cover generator, written in Golang/Vue, supporting more glyph like CJK.
You may try it on https://rly.nanmu.me/
Source code is available via MIT license on https://github.com/nanmu42/orly
Cheers. :)10 -
am I only one who thinks that ≥6GB RAM for phones is just too much as most of the time the unused RAM gets wasted for no goddamn reason but the only one being that the companies want their product(s) to look more compelling in `spec sheets` and it's a competitive market so it ok for them to do so...24

post != rant;
post = "Feature Request";
@dfox
Stack Overflow is full of abuntch of downvoteing dickbuts. The devrant community is so much more accepting of new devs, why not add a question section.
Down votes would only be allowed for spammers.
One the question was solved, it would go into the devrant question archive, Searchable by everyone.
Ik you have heard this one before, but it's Just my two cents.9 -
That moment when writing code to perform a one time task ends up taking more time than just doing the task manually6
-
I think we're going two sides:
For one, more and more technology is being developed/engineered which is even more and more and more intrusive as for personal privacy, I'm genuinely worried how this'll go as privacy isn't just a about not exposing certain things like passwords/bank account details and so on, it's also about being an individual who has their own thoughts, opinions and so on. If we keep taking that away more and more often, society will change and go towards the Orwell scenario (we're on our way there right now). We can change this as software/design/server engineers but that's up to us and I sadly don't see that happening quickly, also due to the 'nothing to hide' bullshit.
Second one is that were going more and more towards open source.
This is a good thing as this:
- gives freedom to devs around the world to improve software and/or modify it to suit their needs.
- gives people the opportunity to look through the source code of softwares in order to verify it as for backdoors and find security vulnerabilities which otherwise can remain hidden for the general public while spying agencies have way more resources to go vulnerability hunting.
For the people who think this isn't a good idea (even more open source), without it we'd be completely fucked as for moving forward/security/privacy. (I can give examples if wanted).3 -
I once observed one guy and he just... lived. Without owing anybody and himself anything. With nothing to achieve and nothing to prove. Without any kind of guilt when he chose just to stay in bed and do nothing or when he couldn’t finish a readme in more than three months.
He was just living, creating digital things he kinda liked. Without seeking for approval. Without making big plans. Like a psychopath.6 -
HAPPY NEW FUCKING YEAR BECAUSE IT WILL SUCK WAY MORE THAN THE LAST ONE AND CAN WE PLEASE JUST FUCKING STOP CELEBRATING AND GET BACK TO WRITING FUCKING RANTS AGAIN?! BECAUSE I WILL FUCKING DO!4

Just spent writing code for 5 hours for my clg presentation!!
Never have I learnt more in one night about what I like!!!
Good night. Devs....1 -
Hi hackers!
Just not sure about this one:
Is this true?
The closer i get to the router , the more packets i might be able to sniff.
And something else:
I might loose the traffic sent to the other APs while i'm close to one another.
Is there any way to capter all packets?
(I also have wired access to network but since the socket isolates the traffic let me know if there is any other method)
Thanks16 -
So... GDPR.
And the deadline.
And I have no idea what to do.
What does it mean for one-man indie projects? Data protection officers? Companies? Controllers? Processors? EU employees? Argh.
Look, please, EU. Not everyone can afford to hire an entire team for this, when their current team is literally one person.
Yes, the GDPR is probably a step in the right direction, but I think I'll just stop collecting the data altogether.
(All data I collect is just user settings stored in a database, nothing more.)
Can someone point me in the right direction?8 -
Changing default branch name from "master" to "main" is just one more entry in the already very long list of "things sane people must do because some retarded american woke up one day and decided to be offended".
I am so fucking tired of the entire world having to accommodate to the first-world-problems of some spoiled brat just because they happen to be american.38 -
We've had a bunch of flaky tests in our repo for a while now that no one could be bothered to fix; we'd just re-run ci until it's green. Today I looked into it and I was inspired to make this meme, because I lived through it.
Adding logs to investigate just lowered the fail rate making investigation more difficult. I do have an idea of what it might be though so, we'll see tomorrow.3 -
Linkedin in my home country is a clown fiesta. I swear to god if I see just one more post about "unpaid internships" I'mma shoot the whole block I don't care anymore.
IF I WANTED TO WORK FOR FREE I'D BE DOING CHARITY FOR THOSE WHO NEED, NOT UNPAID WORK FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO NEED2 -
why does everyone always give me backtalk when i want to make my files smaller and more readable
"no you should put your scripts, style and template all in one file, theres no need to put it separate"
alright while we are at it, lets just write the entire project in 1 single file6 -
That moment you're 8 beers deep into your program at 4am, so focused and then realized you've been crossing your legs doing the pee pee dance in your chair so you don't piss yourself because your bladder is full and you just say "ok bathroom break after I finish this method, then one more beer."4

When I go to bed, I power off my laptop instead of just closing the lid. I don't bring my phone with me. I don't have a smartwatch. I sleep with no electronic devices with me.
Anyone can solve a lot of their problems by conversing with themselves one on one. Instead, they prefer a feed algorithm taking away their pain. But the nature of pain-relieving addictions is that they always intensify the pain in the long run.
Listen to yourself. Speak to yourself quietly, one on one, without mark zuckerberg in your room listening to your every word. The overwhelming pain will be no more after mere minutes. Only then can you be free.4 -
My girlfriend's dog died, so I tried to cheer her up by getting her an identical one. It just made her more upset. She screamed at me, "What am I supposed to do with two dead dogs?"1

Feeling very sleepy.
Me: Just one more feature and am off to bed.
Completes feature using 2x normal time.
Me: I just did a feature whiles feeling sleepy, I can do it again.
Can't think, can't type. But won't stop.
Wake up next day. What the f*** did I do here ?
I don't exist anymore.

Tomorrow's my last day.
There is no exit interview scheduled. I'm not surprised, there hasn't been any 1-on-1's in about 2 years, and any feedback or complaints are never addressed.
Just need to bite my tongue for one more day.1 -
As someone who doesn't know a lot about JavaScript, but occasionally needs to create some quick and simple scripts, I swear I'm going to kill someone if I read "just use jQuery" one more time on SO.7
-
If I hear anyone utter the words "technical debt" one more time, I swear to God, I will fucking kill them :-/
It's your fault your design smells like piss in the first place. It's your responsibility to fucking fix it. You can't just sit on your arse all day, coming up with new, "innovative" ideas that will build up more technical debt :-/ it's making the life of everyone around you, a big, irreparable mess.10 -
We might achieve world peace one day and still won't have agreed over indentation.
Indentation = TAB. Just 1 character (N spaces = N characters = more disk space, duh!). And then each dev can chose their own TAB width (in spaces) in their IDE of choice. Beautiful.11 -
So my client is (was) paying 3500$~ a month to that service that has also an API and we have been now fighting atleast 2 months for them to raise the rate limit higher. (because the new features pull in a lot more records, to basically make their shitty old dashboard obsolete at some point)
He's even willing to pay more, but the ticket and calls just get thrown around from one level to another, when he threatened to quit, all they changed was to send him to another level that was suggesting 3 months 10% off and when he declined it just got thrown into the pool again lol
So what we end up doing is register his wife on same service (there's not really any alternatives that actually have all that weird shit he needs and his wife was co-owner anyway, so it was just a name change basically), but just tick the higher API rate limit and it worked, he's now quitting the old one.
What's funny though, the new contracts for the same thing he was paying cost just ~2450$ (would have been even less, but hes too clingy on that one page I can't recreate without having the data) so they just lost that revenue, just because they didn't want to raise the API rate limit and the client also decided to give me the difference of one month on top of my contract, once the new contract kicks in and the old one expires in 6ish days (at best) or 12ish days at worst
well done support and assigned engineers, not only did you just lose a client with an old contract paying you 12000$/year more, but you also gave me a great free bost in money lol
btw: I hope I put everything in again, I this time decided to be brave (read as "stupid") and wrote it in the devrant webapp, then accidentally clicked twice outside the borders, making everything disappear.. -
You know a project's gonna be a pain in the ass if one of the file's the mini map looks like this. But wait there's more, this mini map is just a quarter of the whole file. Fuck16

Well here's my new setup.
My desk wasn't big enough width wise, so instead of buying another one, I just cut some wood to be longer. Gotta improvise 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Just got the monitor today. Next item is a mechanical keyboard.
I'll post one with the lights off so the RGB LEDs are a bit more visible.13 -
devRant already replace SoundCloud as my orange app in the main screen...
To be fair, SoundCloud was just there to complete the rainbow.
Rant: this app told me that my rant would be safe if I closed the Post Rant window (since I can't post more than one rant per hour or something) but it didn't save my awesome tags! I feel betrayed.undefined fuck it i'm out why not spotify? can't wait for the stickers don't remember the original tags script kiddie af love at first sight finally a rant who's colorblind?23 -
Google -> Niantic -> shit
Hate them for biting off more than they can chew, they successfully fucked up two of their games, now they are launching the third one.. Can you just fix the stuff you fucked up before you continue with new stuff?? Okithxbye9 -
Look, I've given Microsoft and Windows a lot of shit, but I just have to be fair and say the one piece of hardware that I absolutely covet is the Surface Pro... If that is the direction Microsoft is heading in the coming years I'll have a lot more respect for them...8

Oh boi.
Once she asked me "Why don't we just upgrade the HTML version?" as in "upgrade our system".
There were more such gems from her, but I think this one was the ultimate.
Background Info: We make emails and to support as much clients as possible you gotta go with the real oldschool html 4.1.😒 -
Vue vs React...
Which one do you guys use or like better?
I'm been dabbling in Vue and like it so far...just wondering if I'm putting myself in a pigeon hole against a 'more widely adopted and stable' framework
Angular....meh....22 -
The more I look into Windows 11 the more I hate it. There's just 1 (one) more thing that's wrong with it every time I look.
It's a security and ethical nightmare. I almost wish I didn't specialize in computer recovery & cybersecurity.
So thankful that my high-end gaming-built PC is apparently "not compatible" with Windows 11. Oh, you don't want to break my computer and ruin my entire life? That's actually a complement, man.17 -
Dear Microsoft, stop pushing me to update to Windows 11.
I still haven’t changed my mind and I won’t change it even if you ask me for the 6th time.
Just stop being an annoying bitch, please!
Also, one button is completely enough. You don’t need to make me click 3 or more buttons in different places just to remove your Win 11 messages which you keep slamming into my face.4 -
Could people that want a stressbal that badly, just buy one?
Lets say the community grew with 15%. So if your rant first had to be "100 funny" to get 150++, you still need "100 funny" to get 175++.
Conclusion: you don't need to be more funny to get a stressbal. releived?
Besides that, it's free, be grateful3 -
I watched an anime just because I thought it is about programming.
"New Game!"
I have saw memes about it but when I watched season 1 it was all about an artist and graphic designer. So she had a programmer friend, so I watched season 2.
Fffffff it's just 2 little part related programming. Just give me a programming anime. :(

This is a good Experience -
I used to go to a class to learn C++(was a kid back then).
One of the sir there told me -
"Anybody can write code, just knowing coding is not enough, idea is more important. You should have good ideas and solutions, you can alaways find people to code for you"
This has stuck with me till this day.1 -
TEAM PROJECTS IN UNIVERSITY BE LIKE:
You will need to write a paragraph of text, approximately 100 words long.
In order to manage your work more effectively, you must split the paragraph into sentences and each one of you should write one.
Make sure you don't clash with each other, the text is meaningful and it flows nicely.
You have one month: you should meet at least twice a week to discuss how to go about the tasks, review your work and plan ahead.
We will be checking on your progress on a weekly basis.
Most importantly, do not just wait until the last minute and have one person do all the work: that's just silly.7 -
One thing I wanted to say here before:
The more the community of DevRant grows, the more "repeated" posts it will have. It's totally usual on social networks when they start to grow.
So, instead of saying bad things to people who post the same stuff, just ignore it and keep the community growing. :)2 -
* No raise after one year, even that I don't earn that much
* Working in the oldest project
* Everyday I have to make quick fixes, usually requested by leader
* No spare time to rewrite shitty code - always something have higher priority (like doing some tasks that I shouldn't do, just because I had no tasks for next sprint)
* Got feedback from leader that I "hack" too much instead of writing code properly (see third dot)
* Every company around pays more and have more up-to-date stack
* The only guy that wanted to change stuff and use more generic approaches from other teams just threw resignation paper6 -
Fuck Monday and SAs... Just arrived at office and logged in:

The bartender stole one euro from me. (Just didn't give me the rest of my money)
So like the awkward nerd that I am, I left and will just sulk and never go back there. I thought this was my new nook. Turns out, no more.
Sad Friday evening noises in distance.9 -
Will happen:
- Leave current shitho...job and join something exciting
- Draw at least 1 manga chapter, im fine if its a one shot or something, i just wanna do it
- Master ocaml
- Move to a big city
Will happen, just not necessarily in 100wks:
- Arduino up my car
- Start a company
- Have at least one open source project that is somewhat successful. Id be more than happy with like 20 stars on github. Currently working on a REST backend generator, that might be big.
- Get a cat.
I hope will happen at least sometime:
- Move to USA
- Finish a Volkswagen collection
- Have a career as an anonymous dubstep artist2 -
Boss pulls up in a Lamborghini 🏎️

So this i quite a big project, hundreds of files everywhere, pages are rendered using multiple files.
This is one of the latest created page, it was made by my boss, and it just give me the creeps.
I REALLY don't know how he always comes up with shit like these.
I just hate having more than 5 closing tags in sequence...6 -
New year is the only +1 I do not give a fuck about. All it means is I am one year closer to death, so I will smoke one more cigarette after the last, one more cup of coffee with far too much sugar, and I will keep coding one more line after the other, and frankly it is just to distract me from the fact that there is always another +1, one more person to hate, one more word spoken, all so I can get to through one more year. So fuck the new year because there will always be another. But I won't always get a +1 on a rant.5

*then I realize that it's not that simple1 -
I don't understand privacy advocators.
Am I the only one who wouldn't give up practicality in exchange for "potentially more secure"?
I don't understand so much what the deal is with people who avoid Facebook, or don't trust Google or Microsoft, just in the basis of "privacy" or "security".
Websites tracking you to serve ads? Well, it's pointless because I very rarely buy something from the internet or let myself be influenced, ads are waste of time, just use an adblocker.
I can pretty much upload my whole life or documents on Google drive, even if I made it public no one would really care or read it all. It's like that GitHub project you uploaded but never documented, so no one cares. I usually use alternative software not because of "privacy" but because it has features other software doesn't have.
In reality you realize people aren't that interested in your life more than their own life.24 -
One thing I will never be able to stop is asking "why" if somebody tells me "X doesn't work", even though every second asshole takes it literal and tells me "I don't know why it doesn't work", instead of just mentally giving it a second and telling "why it doesn't work" by showing a screenshot or a message, because that's more likely what I meant.6

What the hell! Every time someone comes over to my desk and stands behind me my brain disengages from my fingers an I start misspelling and doing wrong commands etc..
Just one more reason everyone should have private office.4 -
Uhm... am I the only one who thinks this is a vague as fuck answer and should've taken more than one sentence to properly inform users of their data protection methods? It can't be just me...2

fuck time zones and time changes, why the fuck we don’t have one time on the planet and one date that is just day.
No month, no years - all the complexity would be gone, day wouldn’t have 24 hours but it would be something more precise, there won’t be a second
time that earth goes around sun is
365,25964 days
31558432896 milliseconds
we should start count time differently so it’s not relative in space time continuum, what should be relative is the mass38 -
My favorite is when they just don’t come in one day (don’t give notice, just see ya!). If that happens more than once in a few month period, that tells you more about the department than the individuals.
-
Why you would sell your company to Microsoft too!
1. Your company is so succesful, the valuation is so high, only a handful of companies could buy it.
2. Running a company takes a shit load of energy, and most normal people hope to relax at one point in their life.
3. People at the head of major international companies are not normal humans. They like do over work and they have one goal. Be number 1.
So good successful people sell to evil and more succesful people.
And when i say evil, i really just mean that being number 1 is more important than ethics.
Edit: spelling.7 -
What the tickets I receive daily are like... -
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.”2 -
Developers that prefer to play the asshole card because it is easier than going through the trouble of acting like a normal person and lose a chunk of their time.
I come across this more and more: if I have a conversation with a random stranger at an event, and we touch upon a new thing that neither one of us knows about or whatever, there is this sudden cut off when one stops the conversation and leaves, rather than staying and keep on exploring the subject and risk of saying something stupid.
Am I just in the wrong place talking to the wrong people?
Or is there some developer budget your time manual that I haven't heard about?2 -
So my co-worker asked me to change something. It was simple, took me about 5min to do it and pushed to production right away!
Two minutes after, asked me to change two other things. In the span of 1h30, she came to my desk 3 times and asked for 3 different things!
The thing is: before I push anything to production, I have to ask my other co-worker who is currently on vacation.
Already sent him one email for the first thing, and now I feel bad because I have to send him another one...
In case she comes up with any more changes, I'm just going to wait for the end of the day and send one more email with every change I made. This is great. FML3 -
Client : you are hired as a developer.
Me : we need more developers as there's more work and less time.
Client : Ok, here's another dev
(Meanwhile me doing my work...)
ON THE DAY OF DEMO :
Me : Here's the demo.
Client: it's incomplete, where's more work?
Me: that's the part of 2nd dev you hired before
Client : I don't care, I fucking need a work!
Me inside: (Why the fuck would the first dev becomes a task/team manager just because is the first one to join the project! Arrrgh!!! Hire a fucking scrum master to manage your fucking tasks/team, am just a fucking dev! )6 -
I kind of just came to an insight that my computer is sort of my partner in crime.
I "teach" it how to do something that I'm probably better of not doing or should do in moderation... But then it gives me access to so much of the stuff, I spend a lot more time doing it... more effectively.
So I actually don't save much time because it makes it easier so I now do even more...
I would post some screenshots but its uhh..... NSFW... at least this one is.25 -
one of our sales manager ask me,
"what so difficult to build ecommerce website, we work more than you because we strugle on field."
I just smile and start walking.6 -
Modern cross platform mobile app development is a lie. Maybe if you do Apple first, I don't know. Maybe xamarin is better than Cordova, idk. I've spent more time tweaking to one platform than I would have just starting with a platform and writing two or three code bases. I've got more if iOS statements than I know what to do with and the Windows code is some hacky transpiled mess because UWP isn't ES6 ready for reasons. Also, some error and image handling just doesn't translate. All this and I've got significantly less features than I could have implemented in the same time writing in a native language.3
-
I just spent an hour troubleshooting an error message which I perceived to have some kind of abstract meaning.
Overthinking idiot, it couldn't have been more literal.
After the fix to one stupid line, I quietly watch that hour of my life sail away on a sad river of anguish, never to return again.3 -
Database is being slow AF again. Team lead is investigating. This is happening more often lately and affects both production and dev because everything is just in one gigantic database. So clients are calling support being angry about the speed they get and us devs get to twiddle our thumbs while waiting for our own data to load.8
-
How to be more productive at morning? Just get alert from PagerDuty that one of core app running out of space and there is nothing you can delete. Call me Speedy Gonzalez
-
A member of infra team:
"Hey, we are migrating to a Microsoft office tools and we migrated your google drive data to One drive"
I go and check the new One Drive account and it's empty. So I point that out and the reply was:
"You should export your files to a zip and then import them to One Drive"
I didn't want to waste my time showing him that he is just contradicting himself in less than 5 mn and in two nearly consecutive messages.
I need more patience.2 -
So I just spent over two hours trying to get...5 elements to align nice and even. Sometimes I would think I had it then..nope. Everything is thrown way off.
The one thing I've learned so far is to throw everything into more divs if something isn't working, and maybe that'll work6 -
Working more than 5 months for our new web site. And considering lots of cool stuff and useful features. Just after the launch one customer called our support to notify that our site has been hacked.1
-
So.. name one fucken case where your database is not a computer backed thing.
Just asking because.. why the fuck? I don't think your database server supports input of fucking math symbols? JUST USE HUMAN LANGUAGE, AS YOU HAVE TO DO ANYWAY!
It's stupid how everything needs to be expressed mathematically ffs. Not that it's hard to understand - it's just more complex than of a very simple wording.5 -
Biggest one is dealing with idiots who break everything. Can’t space anything properly. Oh you needed that function? I got rid of it because it broke my code, and it was easier. Oh yes, just perfect, get rid of a core fucking function you retard that multiple parts of the code rely on. (Luckily it wasn’t pushed to the main, otherwise everything would’ve broken...)
Another one is finishing a damn project, I have like 20 by now... all in different languages that I want to learn. Time comes to work on it? Oh wait, let’s make this because it’s more fun! Just adding more projects to my graveyard. -
We are switching to an infinite scroll mode for our app. I told the backend dev in my project (we're just 2 people) I need an API to get more than one post at once.
He told me to use a loop to call the old URL 15 times.
...Not sure if stupid or just too lazy4 -
Ever have one of those days where you're just:
"Man i don't want to get into THAT right now, don't know why but I just don't...."
Then a task jumps out at you.
"Oh shit that, yeah I want to do that!"
I don't know what the difference is but sometimes one task seems more motivating for no reason at all.2 -
What dumb twat decided to commit a change with the message “FUCK”. And it not just one, it’s 10 or more in a fucking row!!!!!
Thanks, that’s really gonna help me understand what was changed 😡5 -
Goals -
1. Learn frontend and backend development. Move out of "Just android developer" description
2. Move out of this shitty MNC and get a job in a good company
3. Blog more
4. Give talks
5. Get fit
6. Have a nice gf ( one can hope)
Can I achieve this much? I'll try my best for sure. -
Just wondering... anyone else think having a script automatically kill gradle if it runs for more than X amount of minutes would be a great sanity saver?
"Jesus Fucking Zombie Christ I only added ONE FUCKING TEXTVIEW IN A SIMPLE GODDAMNED LINEAR LAYOUT YOU WORTHLESS MOTHERFUCKING PIECE OF SHIT AND GRADLE IS STILL RUNNING AFTER FIVE MOTHERFUCKING MINUTES?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!"1 -
Was using webstorm and it kept on hanging lately. Just started using Atom, it's so cool. Webstorm has more features but if you want one in atom you can install a pakage, disable/ uninstall if not needed.5

I have a course at my university about personal data and it feels more than a law course than a computer science one. I asked the teacher why do we have to be taught that subject and how would we be able to use what we learn in real life and she got triggered, telling me that with just by coding I won’t achieve anything and i have to learn more topics and if I didn’t want to be taught this subject why did i choose the university.
I just made a question you fuckin butthurt, chill the fuck out.3 -
Just had a first meeting with a customer who wants me to upgrade their system that a company spent one year making. He gave me the .exe and was surprised I couldn't just edit it.
He was cool about it when I explained, but it's tough to break it to someone how much more time it will take than they had anticipated. -
I feel that Microsoft putting a deadline on their Win 10 OS is just one more way to get people to buy into it5
-
Man emotions are funny
One day you're up, one day you're down
Sometimes I don't even know why I'm still trying anymore. Just to waste more time4 -
Honestly I love videos on YouTube that's sped up footage of someone programming a game and talking over it explaining what was happening or what they were thinking but I have only found a few channels that do it.. Hopson is one with his Mincraft in a week being my fav.. I just wish there was more..2
-
One last feature and I’ll be done with a project holy fuck. I’m so fucking close just one more class and it’s done and I can move on to something I like a little more.2
-
Relative phones up worried about installing Adblocker as it "can store and modify the websites you visit"...my answer.."so can GCHQ, NSA AND CIA so just give in to the fact that you have no privacy and click ok"...*long pause*.."ok one more question, what's a chrome extension?"..FML
-
Hey just noticed the app updated... Looks like a pretty big change but pretty nice. one thing though was wondering. How does it decide the length to show?
I see some posts are really long but others are shorter and get the Read More cutoff15 -
I just gave a simple API which fetches recent searches by pinging an index on elasticsearch to the UI developer.
She had just one job. And ended up calling the server every time it loads on every screen thereby reaching max limit of calls per second and giving 429.
QA are not even required to break your code. UI developers are more than enough :) -

is it just me or are others also noticing that our society is getting similar to the one seen in Idiocracy [the movie]?
I mean... I'd understand one or two dumb things: people do it, realize how stupid it is and move on. But now it's more like the other way around: people do something smart, realize it, undo it and move on.
Has anyone else seen Idiocracy?20 -
Talking about PM, I'm still not sure whether we have one in our company. The project is managed directly by a senior engineer.
If we have any question about the doc, UI/UX team sits just next to us. We even have conversations on how to proceed the project to make us more comfortable.
I don't know aboit the others. But for me, this is sweet.3 -
i think ai assistants would be much more interesting / less annoying if it had a faster, snappier syntax to talk through. Like shorthand code but in the sense of talking and just getting one word responses.5
-
I just realized a the Keurig I bought is just a more expensive version of something I already had...
And the older one may have been better and cheaper.. KCups are expensive and the machine makes it very watery....
I think it should let the KCup soak in the water actually which is what the other one does.... and prolly cheaper than those KCups...3 -
At what point do you stop optimizing queries and realize it's a database architecture, scaling problem?
We've been having production issues this week because a lot more users with more demands, and I'm going we need more servers... We can't just have one db, we need to parallelize like Hadoop...
Everyone else is going, how do we optimize queries, indexes, reduce the load...11 -
Going to attempt to get one commit oh GitHub every single day. Just to build up a habit before grad school and to take my code more seriously.5
-
I don't think it could be more .net core than this: Several parts of the application ended up failing because of a too long URL. For example we used a List to store selected items in an array and they each looked like this:
&model.selectedIds[n]=true
The server side made more sense but we were running late with the project so we just went with it and hoped no one would use this feature. -
I miss working on Linux. It’s so bare and I get to tinker with a lot stuffs. I like working with Mac though, less problems and more productivity; but it’s just tiny bit bloated.
I think the perfect balance is having two machines; one Mac and the other Dell XP 15 loaded with Ubuntu.1 -
I'm picking old manuals and documents for recycling, enough to fill one handcart.
Just found a letter from old girlfriends and lovers, and a folder full of a closed form of soft non-gender hentai...
Why do I find homoerotic hentai art better then more normal hentai... I don't know, but I still do.
Well, I'm just gonna save a few... hehe
Btw, also found some paintings and drawings I forgot I've done, 15 years ago. :D2 -
I set up an issue tracker for a software I'm developing for a company. Sent them an invitation to that tracker, stating that I hope to keep discussions more concise and clear that way (they're all HW/Embedded Devs)
The good news is: they've taken to the tracker quite well and are happily reporting issues and discussing them.
The bad news is: they're all sharing a single account.
It's been up for a day now and already no one knows anymore who reported/commented what.
WHY, JUST WHY would you think it's a good idea to share an account between 5 people, maybe more, who knows? Creating one takes less than a minute and it's free ffs.2 -
Programming is like climbing a giant mountain covered with other smaller mountains. You conquer one small mountain (i.e. bugs, refactor, etc) just to realize there are many more mountains ahead before you get anywhere near the final summit.
-
Never understood the hate for regular expressions, it's just one more useful tool in my eyes. Anyone want to weigh in?9
-
Any code should be simple and easy to read / understand.
I just reworked an old stored SQL proc.
Went from 102 lines to ... 10.
More I code, more I realize that maintainability, readability, comments and unit tests are more important than actual code. (And performances ofc. But if 1 line code does it in 1 second and 500 lines code in 0.2 seconds, I’ll take one line solution every time)5 -
Just created a tiny (not yet stable) selector library that allows you to change properties on multiple elements just like you would do on a single one. It also has some more useful features. https://github.com/kosimst/kazel
Still in development, but prototype should work. What do you think?6 -
Dev rant needs to work more on their algos to show rants! Since I posted one bout php , every other rant I see is bout php now and I think I just shot in my feet with this rant 😂oh whatever.5
-
still they lie of same improvement but underneath they have just managed to add some more ads in one or more reaming no ad screen.4
-
Is it just me, or are ++' much easier to get by nowadays? Back, in my early dR days, you saw one, maybe 2 posts with more than 50 ++. Numbers over 100 meant that it is definitely worth reading. And now, almost every second rant has got 50 ++ and more, and TBF most aren't even that quality rants that they used to be.2

One thing that I hate more than anything else in what I do: Waiting
Whether it is compiling, training, loading, IDE indexing or building I just despise it. It gets me out of my flow and forces me to be bored and often unable to do anything else because my pc is busy6 -
I'm just so fed up with these constant updates and changes in the tech world. Can't we just stick to one thing for more than five minutes without it becoming obsolete! It's insane, makes me want to punch a wall am I right?8
-
I think I mentioned this before but I hate recruiters that send me a f*cking long email to fill instead of a form like a normal person.
Today I got one of those and his excuse was that it saved time on the call to ask more. He mentioned to just copy and fill it using his format.
I can't believe these people still exist. -
So...
Just searched for *.io websites... thought there'll be somehow interesting things - eeeh... nothing incredible 😴
More or less just abusive usage... 🤓
But one site - beefree.io - is about an email editor for responsive mails. And I don't know why (someone really needs that - over 1.000.000 users as stated on their site) ... but there is nothing that doesn't exist.
Weird world.15 -
It seems being your own boss (on side projects) isn't much better... keep telling myself to "add just one more feature" , "make a slight improvement"
Well there goes the whole morning... which I was supposed to spend doing other stuff....
In fact I told myself and everyone I was done a few days ago... but it keeps coming back...2 -
(IMHO) The current system fails to identify that there are at least 2 main paths one can take in our field. Software engineering and computer science.
Software engineering should not be just a course. It should be a craft, a degree. Where one can learn practical things not just algorithms that are used in niche cases.
Computer science branch won't be that different from what we've got now. It can be even more focused on theory.2 -
Just launched a successful deployment today. Took 4 months to build everything. It's probably not a big deal but I'm just really happy today that everything worked right away, and almost no deployment hiccups at all.
Only one issue popped up, but come to find out it's a particular thing about the Prod environment and nothing to do with my code.
Gonna go celebrate now, before more work comes in. (hey, can you refactor this for me?)4 -
Actually, it happened just before my current holidays.
I had prepared a whole system to feed and use a machine learning model. My colleague and some others had been working on a great thing, all encapsulated, all abstracted for my system.
My last day at the office, they had it ready.
I install their thing, load one model and launch one dummy prediction: error. I try with other input data: error
I try debugging a bit more, errors all the way. Knowing them, I asked if they wrote some unit tests.
"Sure we did"
I find the tests, yes there are some. And I notice:
"Hey, I see that in all your tests, you're making more than one prediction at a time (=aka using a matrix with more than one row)
- yeah, and it work fine
- in the project, we're doing one prediction at a time, did you try it with one prediction?"
He tries: error, that was totally what I said.
I started ranting on loosing the scope of the project, why we do tests in the first place.
Then, I grabbed my coat, said "see you in one week" and let them rework their code.
I was so angry at them, it seemed so basic to just check that 👹 -
Most of my projects are based on one or few existing platforms, so core technology considerations are usually quick.
I like to wrap my head around the user stories first and then decide should this be more of a future-proof code, ie more extensible/generic, or just a code that will serve a few specific scenarios but would allow me to get it over with quickly. -
One day every 2 week, we got to spend the Friday just learning and trying stuff. No working on projects unless it's critical.
On these days, I feel like I learn much more than in the rest of the weeks.
Today I built (normally Python developer) a web service using Rust. -
When people put more emphasis on SQL than a back-end programming language while mentioning their skills, it is obvious that they did a couple of tutorials of just SQL and never really tried to actually use it.
One guy had the misconception that you just replace the name of the text file with the SQL file in PHP require() to supposedly store the data in a db instead of a file.1 -
I've just noticed, the rest of the world says things like "your check is null and void," as if those two things are one and the same.
Meanwhile, to us devs, they couldn't be any more different! Something can't be both null AND void! 😅undefined void null function return values memory locations c declaring variables c++ coding pointers8 -
Me yesterday:
"I think I've been too harsh on desktop Linux. Maybe I'll give it one more shot. Ok, debian 9 looks decent."
- Unetbootin fails to recognize usb drive
"Hmmm ok. I'll use ether to to put the iso directly on the drive."
- Bios requires disabling of secure boot
"Uhhh..I guess I'll just disable it in the bios."
- Debian fails to configure network
"Lol fuck this."4 -
TFW the mock class has way more code than the real one.
Testing big infrastructures can be a pain...
Or maybe my team is just not so good at it.
My time spent:
Adding new feature to the real class 15%
Extending the mock with the same feature 55%
Writing tests 30%7 -
Do you ever feel like coding is like gambling, when working on personal projects? "Just one more small change, I'm sure it'll work after that"...suddenly it's 3am, the damn thing still doesn't run, I have a meeting at 9, and I hate myself.1
-
Why does it seem like every time I finally learn how to use a new piece of technology, it becomes obsolete and I have to start all over again? And don’t even get me started on the constant updates and upgrades. Just when I think I have everything figured out, BAM! New update, new features, new headaches. Can’t we just stick with one version for more than a month? Is that too much to ask? 😤4

Need advice with buying a notebook.
I fell in love with the Lenovo X1 Carbon.
It comes with a FHD display, WQHD and a 4K OLED.
I thought about getting the 4K OLED to safe battery since I’m dev and everything is dark anyway.
However, the internet says, that using 4K, drains the battery quickly and for long battery life one should get the FHD.
So I wonder, which one has more impact: 4times the pixels or pixels just barley illuminated...
Maybe someone has experiences with that :)11 -
So in our last retros some of my colleagues suggested to (forced) limit the number of lines per method in order to "maximize our code quality".
In the one hand I can see the benefits of this, such as easier testability when having more sperate testable blocks of logic.
But on the other side their code contains lots of such one or two lines private methods which get most of the cases not more than one time called. (And which I then can't even test separately)
I don't understand how this should help...
Is this really a thing? Am I just not "clean" enough?
(it's c# btw)3 -
Can we please normalise using JSON bodies for GET requests? Makes life way more easy to just have one uniform way to communicate with API's and having different parameter formats between GET and POST request. I mean, In my opinion it is not logical to do one request with query params and others with data in the request body6

Just updated my Android one device to Android 10. Ughh, the worst design in the history of Android. Weird status bar icons, ugly fonts and worst possible color combination choices for both dark and light themes.
Google should go back to its colorful lollypop material designs instead of making more and more robotic icons :/3 -
K guys... Don't expect to hear much from me for a few days...
Not like jase. It's just....
I upgraded my CNC last night with "real" steppers (only need one more for Z)
I just got my 3D printer and have a puzzle to mount...
First pieces I'll do (after tests and learning curve) are pieces for my third CNC lol2 -
"I'm nearly done. Just one last bug to fix."
Time passes, coding happens ...
"No, not quite done. Just three more bugs to fix."1 -
One of the main problems i always have is lack of sleep. You know how us devs get when our mind gets in the zone.
But recently there's more that is keeping me up, altcoins and the whole cryptotrading hollabaloo.
I just can't stop checking my phone. This is starting to be an addiction. I need help.1 -
Everyone: *circle jerking over cyberpunk 2077 and Red dead redemption 2*
Me: yeah looks cool but I think it'd be more interesting to build a modern operating system in pure unadulterated ASM...
Am I the only one not getting hyped over those games and just brain-dead or is anyone else in the same boat?18 -
Hey guys! I've just written Part 1 of a post on Privacy and how we're tracked these days. It's intended more for those who don't know about the issue or would like to learn more. Part 1 is mostly a long overview of the kinds of things that happen these days in regards to privacy and tracking.
https://thecapegreek.co.za/blog/...
I'd be honored if you read it. I also welcome any feedback as I'm not really a writer. Currently I want to figure out some formatting on the site to make the long posts like this one a bit more readable.13 -
That feel when a customer denies writing you a service review (only one sentence), because her website went offline one time. We're not even the hoster of the website. She decided in not paying more for a more professional hoster, even after our recommendation. We even spent time resolving the issue with the hoster without charging that blonde fuck our rates. Don't I just love working for customers 🙂2

So, this happened.
We are supposed to get bonuses by this time of the year, but at the evaluations meetings we were told that this year we won't because we've lost a client and bla bla.
Later this week, one of my colleagues just opened himself and told me that he and one more received the full bonus!!
So basically our employer just lied to everyone.
What would you do?
I'm leaving for sure, already think that this company is hitting a dead end, but i think leaving is not a good enough for the company to open their eyes and starting to value all its employees, even after I leave.7 -
I have another level of respect for people who walk fast and/or don't block others.
Especially in an over populated country like mine, at any given spot, you can have more than one thousand people.
It annoys me how people walk slowly in the middle of the lane. Just cannot do anything about it.7 -
Meeting 1:
Devs: so we have founds 3 ways of displaying this info. Which one do you think is the most intuitive / more pretty / more useful?
Management: idk, just let the option choose between these 3
Meeting 2:
Management: the users are getting confused with so many options. Fix it.

I see a lot of awesome "I got the internship! 🙂🙂🙂" Or "I got the job! 😆😆😆" which makes me super happy and I wanted to be one of those people that got to celebrate on DevRant someday :)
Unfortunately, I was just one slot away from being selected from the internship I really wanted this summer (4th out of 50. 3 positions). But I'm not going to get my hopes up. Gonna interview next year, complete some more side projects, learn more languages, and come back as a better developer 😎😎😎5 -
When you get talked into a new job by a friend and leave your old one. Just to find out the new place is nothing as advertised and you dislike it more every second 💩
-
How the fuck do you get over 10k points on stackoverflow? Are these people actually developing and pursuing a job or are they just F5ing in the questions news section?
Recently I tried to get some upvotes on answers, but there was not one decent question in one hour which would have gotten me more then 1-2 upvotes.2 -
Got the genius idea of multiplayer tic tac toe just before spring break. One week later, back in school and I have multiplayer tic tac toe written in Java. The only way that the school can block it is by blocking the port, but then I'll just change it until there are no more lol
give me suggestions on what to make next, this is fun3 -
Need some advice.
A few programmers told me when I started programming that instead of learning many languages, just focus on one that I am comfortable with and try to get really good at it.
But when I look at other people's resumes or Devrant profiles, most of them have multiple languages in their skill set.
That's why I have been exploring different languages but haven't found the one yet that I think I like the best.
What should I do now? Explore more?6 -
sigh. I hope one day Linux can be rewritten in something with more sensible package management. C/C++ can just be a real pain more often that not. My case was trying to install CUDA on ubuntu 16 following the OFFICIAL developer guide. gave up after trying for an hour. It needed the kernel headers for compile the drivers and it was jsut alot of pain dealing with files being in the wrong place and gcc version mismatching and tons of other cryptic errors. and this is for ubuntu which is a pretty mainstream distro.8

I think i dont have the brain capacity or brain power to process and code extreme complex team WEB projects. Is this normal for WEB development, do i need a lot more practice, more time to understand or am i just fucking dumb for this shit? Honestly
I can code complex mobile apps but i get fucking lost in the middle of coding web projects... Its like im lost in the woods at dark and do not know what to do and where to go.... Literally stuck in one spot, idling.....6 -
If you’re ever feel tired of annoying corporate presence everywhere, go straight to Next.js issues on github.
Since zeit (the company behind it) are too busy polishing their pitches and building more and more fragile betas, no one will ever help you with your problem there. They literally pitch and release more often than writing anything there.
People are seem to have built the help community there all by themselves, and the more I look at it the more it reminds me of SCP Foundation IKEA (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-3008) where people forever stuck in eerie infinite IKEA with no exit just built the whole new society.1 -
This is just funny more then anything 😂
This guy has been fucking up non stop!
He did something incredible, we gave him precise EXACT instructions you couldn’t mistake them
What does he do? Everything wrong.
Granted what he does, works, but... it will take me hours to do what I want to do with the data, if he did it the right way, minutes!
All I wanted was all the active products for this company and their links on the site. He creates an export I can convert to google xml shopping.
What does he do? create over a 100 export buttons one for each supplier so it’s right but it’s all products for that supplier in one file.
So I can do my bit if I just combine 100 files together 😂
It’s funny because there’s already an export that does the exact thing we want just without all the right fields. This is what we asked.
He just needed to duplicate that and add more fields 😂 we think he’s doing it on purpose to be a dick 😂 no one can be that dumb.
I’m laughing cause it’s fucking ridiculous. He’s gonna get fired soon, and he knows it. -
I wanna have a very funny email account so I can actually use it for job applications I'd likely be rejected from. Just in case I ever have one.
Something like mycockwarpstimespace@gmail.com, or something even more bizarre.
What's your best shot?9 -
Why are most jobs just about web development or mobile development? (I'm not criticizing I'm a mobile developer myself)
Is it JUST purely because of the market need and people using them?
Share your opinion on this one and what other career paths in CS do you know about you think would benefit from more people in them.2 -
So I got this thing about getting multiple units of things I like for some time. practical examples:
- Got a tattoo, then I got later 4 more(but I think getting more tattoos is pretty standard)
- got one pencil, then I bought 8 more and a can to store then
- Bought a mouse, then now I got 3. (all of them are microsoft it's one of the few things I like from MS)
- Got a laptop sleeve, I got 3 now
- Got a keychain for my car keys, now I have 6
- I got a piercing, then I got 10 more(eyebrows, ears, nose, tongue, mouth). But I removed most of them, a pain in the ass to clean all those jewels
... list goes on
I haven't been with a psychologist, but I'm guessing that could be some obsession/compulsion or I'm just pretty standard and this is kind of normal. Anyone can relate?2 -
If I have to train one more person, or answer the same question for the 100 times I'm gonna loose it. I just want...need to code
-
I’ve been in a rut. I’ve just been learning shit back to back and I haven’t tried working on a project since my last one and it feels fucking awful. Since the last project was a CLI application I’m gonna re write it as a GUI with WPF and use the project to teach me more about WPF. But after this I’m honestly fucking lost.
I have to get a few more projects done after this. so I can get ready to apply to (my first) development position. -
It's been 3 days since I started my dev job and it's been pretty stressful. I could have posted at least 3, maybe 4 rants each day. Mainly about trivial bullshit that I let get to me.
Lets just say it came to a head today and that's when one of my bosses, who doesn't even really need to know who I am, decided to help me out. No reason why, just being kind.
I get home to find my other half had been making my lunch for me for tomorrow and had made dinner for me as a surprise. Didn't ask her to do it, she just did it out of the kindness of her heart.
It just made me realise that I'm actually surrounded by great people who I value a lot and appreciate more and more each day. -
What IDE's/Editors do you use for coding?
When it's just one file i use vim. But for more than one file i can't find anything that i like.
VsCode is just ugh and Jetbrains stuff is super bloated
Any good alternatives or should i learn to like vscode/jetbrains stuff?15 -
Today's a good day. Just replaced my old MacBook pro from 2012 with the newest one. Can't wait to work again with more horse power on the machine!5

"Just start ahead"
I am supposed to transform calls from one api to another one. Yet there's no documentation, ambiguous code statements, no examples of what values are contained -- but sure, let me just start assuming how the whole thing is supposed to work. That won't lead us more into a murky waters at all.
Even more frustrating: We own the api. We should be able to tell by the access logs how we are queried. Yet for some reason, access logs cannot be accessed and I shall "just work from the swagger defintion".
Well, that swagger definition is broken, its example are shit (somebody liked to use undefined in optional fields, making me wonder even more what the heck is going on here), and I have no idea of what I am doing. Fun times.3 -
First day of new job. No more rants about Blue Prism, that's in the past now. New year new me!
Time to go back to rant against backend developers and their fucking Laravel.
First lesson of the day: if I see another select2 I'm gonna commit war crimes. You see this nice plugin for jQuery, you use it everything's so cool and modern and you think you're the smart one of the team 'cause you don't know you've just polluted an otherwise perfectly fine web page with the dirtiest js shit you could possibly find, just because you didn't feel like searching one more minute for whatever replacement for a drop down you can easily find.
You're not the smart one. You're a criminal.4 -
How does a company in 2022 NOT have the option to buy more seats during the year you have some seats paid for?
We bought 10 seats (the min.) to test the App out and then wanted to buy 37 more but we had to go through days and days of dealing with people trying to figure out how to do that.
Their story is that no one ever buys more seats until the year is over. My guess is that no one continues with this company after dealing with this garbage. They have other products. Seems this one product is just ignored. Which gives me a business idea.2 -
Just saw that the University of Hawaii has a Collaborative Software Development Lab, I think that's one of the more useful things in university
-
I love it when a coding assignment is to take the last assignment and do one thing more optimized !!! 😄😄
All the hard stuff is already done and all I have to do is some optimization that I’ve done before in other languages and just have to implement in this one 😄6 -
Not sure if it still counts as a 'dev' goal but for 2o19 I'd like to finally stop being a 'ooh, this is a mess, I can fix this..just one more thing and I'm done for today' person. Even my bosses tell me to go home already, so I hope this year I will be able to do just that: turn my head off and go home, do other things in life I also love.2

When you have a weekly Skype call with the client, but the client doesn't show up... 😡
I guess they are still in holiday since it's the first week of the year... But one COULD send a mail before christmas about not being there in the first week.
Now I'm waiting 10 more minutes in the skype call to make sure they aren't just late.1 -
I just relised that my primary school had more "cs" lessons then high school
it was just one lesson with python turtle
The most high school has is photoshop and dreamweaver5 -
I've given up on scrum, it's a nice system that allows one to identify problems easier and quickly.
Just a two issues:
1) The boss skips more of them than he's in.
2) Even when we say we need something, we never get it.
So we never get what we need and we've not got a readily accessible means to flag issues up.2 -
More and more, I am getting frustrated/depressed from the attitude of our customers who complain, moan and get angry about issues in their infrastructure, while at the same time, refusing to pay more so the issues could be mitigated.
Like, a client's angry with us today for having one of their non-production-critical databases inaccessible for... Hmm... About 8 hours now (So a whole workday).
Like... I get it, some of your employees couldn't work with it offline, but like... What the hell do we do? You keep data from as far back as several years ago in there, without partitioning, without exports, in a mix of innodb and myisam, so when the DB crashes, and its replication has to be reset from zero, reimporting all the data takes hours upon hours, and importing .sql files just takes time.
Or another client who got angry when their app fell out of the internet, cuz one of their myisam-based log tables crashed, and had to be repaired, with data spanning several years back, meaning it took hours to fix...
The more I work with these "basic" and "simple" infrastructure designs that is *not* redundant, or HA, the more I wonder -- How do the big names out there do it? How do you design systems with fault tolerance so a single DB table crash doesn't lead to the whole app getting inaccessible?
We have... One, exactly one, client, who uses MariaDB with Gallera, and that cluster is *amazing*, it just keeps chugging along, without a care in the world. But it cost them quite a lot, as they had to buy 3 DB servers, instead of 1...1 -

I'm a designer and just found out about a hackathon by Deutsche Bank hosted at the end of October in Berlin. Are some devs out there interested in forming a team (and brainstorming about an idea, obviously)? Preferably from around Germany, since one has to pay travel costs on his/her own, but I'm open, really.
More information: https://api-open.db.com
Just hit me up if you're interested!
P.S. I'm not bad at getting some front-end development done...8 -
if non dev boss walks in to my office one more time to tell me how I'm crushing it, I will lose my mind. for the love of God, just let me work undisturbed, and stop trying to be my 'bro'.
-
Spend last two hours trying to get a language pack for Microsoft Office. Two fuckin' hours with just an error saying "Please check your internet connection and see if you have space on disk"
Yes motherfucker, I fuckin have internet connection and I have 1 fuckin terabyte free on my fucking disk.
The only fuckin solution on Office's forum is to uninstall and reinstall the whole office software. Just to add one fuckin language pack.
I'm going crazy... Everyday I hate Microsoft products more and more and fuckin more.1 -
Can I just say, I owe my soul, nerves and eternal gratitude to the folk over at Percona? They publish articles that have, on more than one occasion, saved my hide when a DB node wasn't working as it should, and I had to find out how to fix that.
Seriously, amazing, love those guys!2 -
I swear if I see one more person/blogger/news-article/YouTuber say "Microsoft Update that broke computers worldwide" about the *CrowdStrike* fiasco I will flip.
And half of those don't even get the rest of the story correctly either, just make up bullshit for the sake of publishing a story.2 -
GraphQL is the worst "invention" ever, it is more effort to create the fucking queries including nesting, references, variables etc. FUCK THIS SHIT.
This is just another one of these "oooouuuuu look at us wE UsE GrAPHql!11!!" bullshit things that make daily work sucky. Thanks Facebook (fuck you too).13 -
When instead of propperly coding one ends up adding syntax highlighting to emacs for specific terms and just other fancy functions...
I mean hey, it is somewhat more readable now I guess. 🤷♀️
...
Guess I'm just distracted and aoiding the issue ^^' -
Just realized my current team owns a new project that is smaller than the one that one I left a few years ago.... and yet we have more issues and work...1
-
Having a cold on a busy time schedule sucks. I almost worked myself to death yesterday by consuming a ungodly ammount of caffeine. Even though the caffeine helped for what felt like 15 minutes, my brain did not seem to function. Just one more worksheet to hand in tomorrow ....
-
Ok, so you can add another CPU for more redundancy and security. Safety PLC's do that. But the one which takes the cake is definitely Pilz. The ended up using three of the same CPU in one controller. Does that at that point really increase failsafe performance or is it just overengineering for getting a certification?6
-
Is anyone here using something like "moqups"? I found it just recently and love the idea of it all being in one place with its own project folders, but the thing that is throwing me off is the money to what you get ratio, since it would be nice to have something that combines trello+adobe xd+flowcharts and more across devices with near unlimited space.2

I wanna cool robot sidekick,
The more irritable the better, like bender from futurama or K2 from rogue one. (Even murderous maniac of a an ai like hal9000 and skynet is fine)
The machine learning technologies aren't just there yet though, they can be irritable but not because of their smart ass answers just the opposite really.
I will need a team with 100+ people that are experts in neurology AND machine learning. Also 10 years.. we will get there !1 -
in this takehome challenge: let's see how much we can over-fucking-complicate every single thing. You want one selectors (that could just be one-liners) stacked on top of MORE one liner selectors? you got it!
you want sagas with fucking wierd ass syntax that can be replaced with i don't know, BUILT IN JAVASCRIPT??!!? you got it!
oh yeah, and with all this complexity, not a single line is written with TypeScript...
...i can't remember the last time i fucking had to write the characters 'propTypes' on a react project
what the hell is this, 2015?
it's absolutely mind exploding mind boggling how these orgs operate
double the work, double the time, double the cost
but what do i know? i'm just a 🤡 -
Freaking deadlines. I just hate them. There's something evil about thinking that you can forecast the future perfectly and even more evil if deadlines are by just eyeballing the problem. I can rant ask day about freaking deadlines.
The emotional consequences of missing a deadlines are a sure way to have everyone feeling guilty. To me is one of the most obnoxious ways of gaslighting.
The name itself, think about it? Why aren't they called Targets? Why freaking deadlines????1 -
As if I fucking care if you have to add another parameter to my function call. Just because you think it's easier, does not mean its more usefull.
It's inconsistent as F U C K
You code IS spaghetti code. Your logic is closer a maze on a fucking one way street and I don't fucking care if it works. It's a pain1 -
One thing I realized about my workplace: when you're given a new template to be used for an existing website project, do NOT use the included CSS files. Seems like it would be better to just manually change the looks of the website to make it similar to that template, lest you want some alignment stuff to break.
Plus, it seems that I don't even need to meet all the design requirements, because whenever I try to do that, clients tend to forget the design they originally gave and request for all these changes.
One more month... One more month and I'm off to bootcamp to properly learn.1 -
My department just installed a new high performance GPU, so :
1. Good bye, my old laptop GPU!
2. Let's play around and break the shiny thing! 😎
(more likely I will be the one who break down due to frustration though 😬)1 -
Am i the only one who thinks TypeScript is not necessary, more some kind of overhead creation?
Whats your opinion about TS? Do you use it or just "good" old plain JavaScript?5 -
Wait. Why does this work? It doesn't copy any of the frontend code into the deploy location.
I'm not sure how this works, but it does. Crap, there goes my morning tracking down this wretched spaghetti deploy code.
At least I understand how it works in production. Shit, why is it different between production and our integ servers ,that isn't good. Maybe I can just refactor it.
That was all on Monday. It's now Wednesday and I'm still fucking refactoring something that wasn't actually broken. It just didn't make sense.
Maybe I should just revert my last three days of work on this branch and move on. No! It's too late, I've invested way too much time into this project...
... and I'm almost done, just a few more commits right? -
Does anyone else code really slow? I spent an entire day Friday working on one DAO (and one small help desk ticket). Nothing complicated, and I knew what I was doing the entire time. At the end of the day, I just felt like I could have written it faster, or got more done. And I was really focused on it the entire day.3

Anyone find it a little worrying the when amazon AWS goes down a large portion of sites goes down. Just my opinion but shouldn't there be more than one company or subset of that company handling smaller portions of sites?2
-
Has anyone actually ever seen evidence of SOLID principles being 100% adhered to, as opposed to people just saying they're using them correctly then you look at their code and they're clearly not.
I can count more than one responsibility here...1 -
Been worrying all year that I won't find a job next year after I finish my studies im november. So I decided to study for one more year, just to learn a little more of the tech before I enter the real world.
A day after my registration went through and my studies are paid for, I get a call from a recruiter to come in for a interview. Fml2 -
I've been trying for two days to display a base64 string as an image, just because everyone wants to see their fucking profile photo from office 365.
It's convoluted, messy and doesn't want to work!
If I hear 'Ooh could you just do this, that will be easy' one more time from either projects or a customer, I'm finding the nearest book repository. #backAndToTheLeft5 -
Spent many more hours than my estimate to get a project out the door. Client is now nitpicking everything. I know the client is always (usually) right but this feels ridiculous. His site is 20x faster than it ever was before but just one page is a little off _after adding more content_ and it's a crisis.1

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"
Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."

Just found this in a book that's like the analog version of devRant! ^^ -
Doing some home automation on the cheap w/ a pi and Ikea tradfri, just one more week of painting and putting in floors in my new place and I can start writing this bad boy.2

Way more calm and more concentrate in any problem I face.
Back in the day, before I taught myself how to program. I feel so paranoid and lost with any problem I face. Thanks to programming, now I know that u just need to calm down and focus on problem. break problem down to little tiny piece and solve it one by one. Its funny that it work for me very well. -
It's funny that I already do the <@user> when mentioning someone automatically.
If some still don't understand why tf I do that:
If find the typical one liner mentions too ugly. I just thought I'd be more nerdy and do the HTML <> thingys.
- Example -
Normal:
```
@user yes!
```
Mine:
```
<@user>
Yes!
```
Much more beautiful!!! :)
(Just as myself)3 -
Just one more layer of wrappers.
I thought CSS supposed to style the document , but now I need to change the document to get styled properly -
Things could be soo much better if I could just refactor this code to accommodate more than one web service... #soapmessages #devwoes
-
One of my social interactions for this week just cancelled on me and I'm feeling SO FREE! I can actually take my time with a dish i have been wanting to make, and my girlfriend is going to be so happy that she gets to see me more this weekend. Things are looking up, folks!3

One day (maybe) I will understand how the "bestest IDE in the world" (cit.) can consume over 10Gb of memory just... for being open while not editing any file or anything.
Just in case you're wondering I'm talking about VsCode and yes I know it's not an IDE just in case you want to point out :-) It's just I see more and more people referring to it as it was one.11 -
does anyone know where I can report bugs on here?
just a simple one, if you write a response that is too long, then delete some characters to make it fit, and the remaining is <= 20 characters, it won't post, web version... using chrome... I could get more detailed and reproduce if anyone cares3 -
This week is the week of planning ahead for the whole left year upto beginning of next year.
My tongue has muscle soreness, my brains gyri are straightened out, my throat is hoarse... And talking really feels like licking a cactus.
I. Hate. Talking.
Just one more day with 8 hours of meetings.
*drools*9 -
I just realized i created a paradox: no one codes on a daily basis more than i do and yet everyone earns more money than i do7
-
Talking means more breathing. Breathing means more CO2 emissions.
Pointing instead of talking is just one step closer to saving the environment, and saving the world. -
Just do something else. I can only rack my brain on the same problem for so long before it's pointless. As one of my professors often says "I've solved more coding problems in the shower than I ever have in front of a computer.1
-
Sitting here doing some programming and watching Sneakers, one of the movies that really made me want to learn more about computers. Just wish my career was more exciting like in the movie. 😁
-
Working. Finding a bug. Quick-fix. New bug. New bug. New bug. Spending 1 hour looking for Quick easy solution. Getting distracted with a more complicated solution. Spending 1 hour researching. Back to problem, one more hour bruteforcing the problem. Finding it was just about a configuration problem. Fix in 5 minutes. Repeat everyday.1

Ah, the merry-go-round of frameworks. Can we settle on one for more than a microsecond?
Switching between React, Vue, Angular – it's like code calisthenics for my brain. Just when I've mastered one, bam, the next shiny framework arrives.
Can't I write code without feeling like I'm auditioning for "Dev's Got Talent"?3 -
I suspect my more “senior” colleague on my team consistently thwarts my ideas and continues to make bad programming decisions because no one else wants to deal with the code we own and he’s just trying to have job security by making it so that he’s the only one who understands this bowl of spaghetti.2

Shit is getting more and more weird.
Context updating hooks inside useEffect is just icing on the cake especially the comment about how putting that hook in useEffect dependecies would cause infinite loop. No 💩, Sherlock!!!
No dumb components in this project except maybe buttons.
Every fucking component has tons of business logic and you can't simply tear it apart as data structures are all over the place. Prop drilling with every drill-step recieveng data of a different type.
We are using Context. For just one value. One. That's it.
Fuck this shit! This shit beats every anti-pattern approach I saw in my whole life, and this is my 40-ish project!
Over engineering by stdOut playing in the backround while I curse at this POS code.
The product is cool though. And it works™ -
I simply can't get shit to work. I just can't, I feel retarded and useless. I know I am a slow coder but this isn't even the problem now. I can't even setup my shit.
I couldn't get virtualenv to work, so I used the python built-in, then I tryed autoenv. Nada. It doesn't fucking work. When i try to source the activation script for my env...
No such file or directory my ass. I tryed evey possible path to that file, still doesn't work.
I ignored that and just continued, trying to setup heroku. It took me 2 fucking hours to get why git wasn't working.
Hopefully I will finish my project one day. I tough it will take me one week top. I was so wrong. The more I do, the more work I realise I have to do. -
Am I the only one having a really hard time grasping code when it involves more than just a few classes devided into several files?! I simply can't follow what happens when method a in class b instantiates class c and d while implementing interface e injection dependency f and extending class g...!?
Does this make sense? -
What should I tell my boss if he wants me to hand over root passwords to everyone in the office just cause there should be more than one person available to handle problems if I'm not available.
All these other people in the office have no experience with Linux or servers at alll and will fuck it up I know for sure.7 -
Mine was when I finally moved from coding in statements to seeing just a little more of the picture by exposing myself to modules/classes. I still can't separate my one long index.js file into separate files (Discord bot, splitting my commands code into their own files) but I felt that progress. A pace of progress that I'm sure a glacier understands. I'm just hoping for some nudges from you Titanic's out there. ;)

Just been casually asked to come up with ways to generate more digital revenue for the company - it’s a newspaper.
As a dev I can map out some solutions and work through most problems, but this is huge! Where do people even start with such a overwhelming challenge???!!!
One things for sure, less bloody display advertising would be my first thought, gotta’ be more innovative!
Any advice?!1 -
Hopefully, simpler sintax.
And better documentation for every language/framework. Especially for the devs who are just starting, don't write documentation assuming everyone has been working with your framework for years!
That last one was more a rant than answering the actual question, but I needed to say it. It's been on my mind for a while 😑2 -
Am I the only one that thinks Linq's .Any() and .All() methods are more appropriately named for the use case they cater to, as opposed to their JS counterparts .some() and .every() ?
.some() doesn't justify the fact that it returns true if *atleast* one item in the collection matches the predicate. Should've been named something like .atleastOne() or something else.
Moreover, there isn't any harm to just use the same method names as in Linq ¯\_(ツ)_/¯4 -
I wonder if crypto exchanges are so damn vulnerable or just so transparent.
I mean, it is impossible to scroll tech articles for more than a few seconds before stumbling on a report of yet another crypto exchange being nicked a couple hundred mil USD.
- It could be that their security severely sucks (wouldn't blame them for it, most businesses do suck at securing shit).
- It could be that the entire black hat community is putting it's might on stealing money that is so fucking easy to launder.
- It could be that is damn nigh impossible to cover up a crypto hack since the evidence of coins drifting away is forever on display in the public ledger, and in that case crypto companies are not hacked more often than regular companies, they are just much more often publically shamed for it.
- It could be a mix of all the above, but my intuition is that one factor is more relevant.
Which would be the most relevant factor? One of the above or yet another attack vector to the stupidest value conduit ever?5 -
When grafic designer design a list of products where on top of the page is header with title, category description, big fucking image, big fucking category navigation and on second screen list of the products.
Just why? Why put the important stuff (products) on second screen? Just why? You have three asses of space, you fucker. You can put category list on fucking SIDE. How many time you did this shit?
What about multilevel categories when menu just show current category children? I need to go fucking back or what? FUCK YOU! Stick this stupid boxes into your ass and design real navigation.
What is so fucking great to having big ass monitors and design more and more one column websites, just why you fucking retard?4 -
Could anyone just give me a good idea to develop? Just a simple idea you know, one I can make just some billions of it. Nothing more :) Thanks!11
-
I had my meeting hijacked by two managers yesterday. One just bitched about a problem I couldn't solve. The other came in, uninvited, and bitched at the first manager for pretty much the same problem lol. Isn't it their only job to be good at communicating? Then why do they suck at it more than 200 kindergarteners playing the fucking telephone game?!? And the second manager was like, "I don't understand your jargon, just fix this." Bitch, I don't think you understand english!
-
I'd really love to try my hands on some of these devOps tools, it's a very interesting part of development that has always caught my attention
currently planning on trying out AWS free tier
so many stuffs I really want to learn
one after the other, it's just been a year, a lot more to go -
Is it more morally correct to just kill yourself and let everyone know or leave a note saying you decided to move to this country and you will never come back and then die in a way and place you are sure no one can find your body and know what happened to you?32

Whats your take on Patreon (and services like it), have you ever considered one or been told to make one?
personally I think its cool that if you have a game community that wants to support you or just people that like your work in general that can support you a little for your work. and Ive been told I should make one but I dont see the point for my own case personally.
Im only asking on here cause I just want more opinions from other Developers20 -
That’s my first hackathon, We where working for 1 full day from 4PM to 6PM next day without having any sleep to give a killer product on integration of multiple applications into one single point (Hard Work)
One team just came chill in the Hackathon went out sleep and made a killer presentation on how to integrate Slack with multiple applications like Jenkins, GutHub and much more to make life simple (Smart Work)
Actually we both lose but their way was implemented in organisation 😝1 -
Your website is slow. Your icons don’t show immediately. Says one boss to the other. Meanwhile i’ve spend already days on this issue am aware of it since 12 motnhs. But hey, since it’s the boss, let me just check one more time and make sure this is more about someones internet connection then the loading speed of the website.

Jesus on a flaming dragon mobile.
Devrant has so many issues.
The one that was reported the other day where the app crashes on iOS. It crashed four times just now trying to just open it. I proceeded to keep opening and then managed to go to the notifications tab. Crashed again. Click on somethin in the tab. Crashed again. What’s happening here?
Today seems more severe than the odd crashes now and then.4 -
What I just had to learn again, if you are the one who brings in (quality) standards in group tasks (like everybody does his stuff until day x, specify image sources, not only Wikipedia Copy & Paste), you are with a 95% probability also the one who more or less works alone on it at the end.
(Works the same with group coding projects where the one person in your group that's able to code relies on you doing most of the work because that person is lazy playing games) -
I can't stand typescript lovers
it's just typing on top of javascript... it's good but that's all - one more tool to help you build solutions
why you keep talking everyday about types, why you keep creating types for everything in the most unusuble and unmaintainable ways??7 -
WTF OPPO?
Why assume it's "malicious" when I'm the one that rooted my own phone?
It's even more ridiculous when I'm prompted to SIGN IN OPPO account to maintain the root status. Who's the fucking malicious one now?
This piece of shitty pink notification permanently stuck onto my drawer and I can't seem remove it. GG fucking WP but I'm just going to live with it.3 -
If there's one thing i love and hate about JS arrow functions, it's the fact that they don't have a 'this' to themselves--great most times, VERY horrible the few times you need 'this' and forget that little caveat. I just wasted more time than I'm proud to admit because I forgot that
-
The more I read the more I am convinced "That one prick" is just a smart tactic to get new member to buy premium. I seriously thought about it just so I could verify that I'm not "That one prick". Genius DevRant.3

When my one of my two twelve-or-more-year-old Belinea 101920 displays has one of these local distortions just on that one very important word...3

Over the years I've written in C, Java, .NET, SQL, php and JS. Past year has been exclusively JS. Had to pick up some C# a couple of days ago and DAMN!! Forgot everything!! Putting single quotes for strings and using === everywhere!! Am I just getting old or do others struggle to switch back to a language that's not their primary one any more?1
-
I can’t seem to stick to one programming language for more than a week. One day I’m deep into JavaScript, the next I’m flirting with Ruby. It’s like my brain is on a never-ending syntax rollercoaster! But that’s it now. I’ve set myself a challenge: 100 Days of Python. Just me and Python, every day, for 100 days. I recently posted on SocialCode.club looking for motivation and a buddy to join me on this journey and still looking. Day 1 starting today7
-
Just a thought. Writing a program then clicking run, and your code runs first time, should be something that becomes more common place as one improves their coding ability, now that we call development. To be always surprised when that happens, almost seems to say that such is a matter of luck.3
-
Backend development!
I love my little services like a cobweb with solid bases of communication, security, logging and measuring. It can't get more fulfilling to build a service that is used by just more than one frontend. -
Why does there have to be both dup(fd) and fcntl(fd, F_DUPFD)? As far as I can tell they do exactly the same thing, one just looks more complicated than the other.
-
Fuck today is just one of those fucking days. I'm THE junior and I'm just hitting a fucking wall with my task.
It's like I have Legos, I know how to build basic shapes and cars and planes, but I can't make the connection in my head to build more advanced things like a space shuttle.
Seriously anyone have any recent feedback on working g with QuickBooks online???1 -
Nothing more frustrating than coming up with ideas for new apps in your head but not having a device to develop those apps on because you quit your job of which you used the provided MacBook for personal projects. But buying a new one is too expensive for just a month or two7

A computer programmer is just a device that can transform one or more cups of coffee into a hundred or more lines of code.3

Is there a way to force VLC to stream a second monitor when there isn't one?
So trick the PC into thinking there is a second monitor and then have VLC stream that one?
Then watch the stream on another device.
Please don't say "just buy a chromecast." They cost a lot here and would not be worth it for my use case. Also this much more a "can I?" than a "should I"11 -
I just made this up but it seems true
There are only two ways 2 people can disagree about making a decision
One is if a person has more (or less) knowledge about the subject
The other is they both have sufficient information about the factors of the decision, but one person simply values a different set of principles than the other person
Have a good day3
