I’m generally not feeling happy or good or “okay”, I’m almost always rather shitty but just keep going through my day without complaining too much because that’s what most of us do..

Today, for the first time in at least one (very lonely, cold and boring) year, I went outside for a smoke and felt good. No idea why.
Everything was orangy/yellowish outside because of the clouds after the first sunny day in weeks.
Its raining slightly but not so much that you actually get wet.

I just had this feeling of “yea, that’s good enough” which I haven’t had in probably 4-5 years or so.

Maybe it’s because I got a little bit of sun for once and saw other people walking 2m around me, I don’t know..
But it felt good.

Does that feeling sound familiar to anyone or am I just finally going crazy?

Some years ago I was in cyber security in the military being shown some new tech for our use. Was challenged to try and get past it after being explained it's basics. Took me one long line in Linux about 10 seconds.
Anomaly detection firewall with machine learning seemed like a good idea.
Setting it to aggressive response and then change the package header to the firewall's own address however made it kill itself.

We didn't deploy that firewall that I know of.

Alright! so it's not much but my game engine is slowly gaining actually useful features, just finished implementing a basic sprite class that now renders basic sprites!

Finally, personal embarrassment was too big, so I took wooden stake and monster passed away. All related files deleted (but not before one final screenshot).

I have been using Linux based system from so long but last week I was building outlook add-on using Visual studio. It was a nightmare to work on visual studio(Or any IDE in Windows) after working for a long time on Linux/UNIX based systems. So much of mouse clicks, worst console experience, etc. Windows is definitely not for developers.

So there is this colleague I already ranted about several times. After my previous team lead had confronted him about not doing much work, there was some irritation because he showed not up at work, but it turned out the external training he did was just a week earlier. Then he was ill a week, another week vacation so we didn't see him much. Not that his pre- or absence makes much difference to our repo: When his and my team lead looked at his commits of the past three months they found like the one copy-pasted HTML-form that wouldn't even show.
Fast forward to now, where we have a new team lead and we were going to lunch with Mr. gitmaster. So we got some more hero stories from the great work he was doing in the previous company. How he was graphically monitoring the heap fragmentation that stupid glibc was causing to their search engine, and how much better it became with tcmalloc.
I still don't understand how he bridges that cognitive dissonance from all the superior tech knowledge he displays to not actually writing any code at all. Not that I would not have experienced some states of feeling low, in paralysis unable to write a single line of code... but he seems so full of confidence, always commenting how trivial and easy all these tasks would be, as if it's all so lightyears below his abilities. Maybe he should just become a manager - but not mine.

Do you think it’s appropriate to use the phrase "dried" in commit messages to refer to removing duplicate code? (DRY = don’t repeat yourself)

I just used it and I’m not sure if it’s ok because some devs might not understand it and the the original letters from DRY went away and became "dried" so it might be even more cryptic.

On the other hand it’s so much more concise having "dried type X" compared to "refactored the code so that it doesn’t contain duplicates of type X"

Took about 67 hours to do homework task and still not got the job offer. And they kept asking few times when I will send the task, because they saw me as very likely me fitting, so I thought there is high chance to get and was motivated to do the homework.

After creating my own PHP MVC framework with Twig as templating engine, everything is now so simple and so fast, I juat cant belive how much I understand now. The development is just so smooth, you know exactly what to do all the time... And for my simple project, it does not even hurt that much to use PHP (and its even strictly typed 7.2, so not that bad). I think that I am in love. ❤

Never be a perfectionist. I am one and it kills me inside. 99% of the time I am not happy with what I did because I know I can do better. Especially on exams. The statistical "scene" (if there is such thing) grew so much in recent years, because now there is a single language that everyone can use and easily share code via packages.
Before everyone used a different propietary and paid statistical software, and could not share code.

It's not so much that I mind all the fire-war about best languages, editors, and other shit, it's that NO ONE PROVIDES ANY GODDAMN EVIDENCE OR ARGUMENT ABOUT WHY. Come on folks, everyone here is on the higher end of the IQ curve, FFS make an argument!!

Way too much stuff is having a Y2K type date error in 2020! So frustrating that people did not even think 10 years ahead. All this stuff is solved already and not implementing it well is just lazy.

Why do people hate jQuery so much? 30KB is basically nothing in times of modern bandwidth and for me CSS selectors are mich more readable than the Vanilla JS functions.

It sucks so bad, that I took a small freelance job ... not much $$$ ... and I actually liked it.

Normally they suck so bad and get so way out of hand that I end up regretting it. Work sucks so bad, it made me happy to something else.

My dad bought the insanely freaky Commodore Plus/4 which should be a more "business"-oriented version of the 64. Of course the two machines were incomatible so none of the 64 games worked on the Plus/4, so there were not much options left but to start hacking into it, first in Basic and then machinecode.

So all Matrix movies are now on Prime... Not sure when exactly that happened but watching them right now.

Apparently the original was released in 1999 so that's like 20 years ago.

Seems like the image of future AI hasn't changed much.

And I just got kicked off the TV so a group of guests can watch America's Got Talent... :(

My dad was using notepad to edit some HTML for his website. I downloaded Visual Studio Code and he likes it SO MUCH MORE. (I wonder why....).

Kinda happy I could help him with it. He is pretty good at coding but just hasn't done it in a while (not his trade) so he doesn't know all the new tools and such.

Bloody ColdFusion. I hate it so much. Not only is it an inferior language. Also, every update breaks something. Adobe should have sticked with developing graphics packages like Photoshop and Illustrator, because they really suck at everything else.

I used to not care whether I used light or dark themes, so I mostly used the light theme in IDEs. But, seeing as all of you like dark theme so much, I decided to only use dark theme.

Now my eyes burn when looking at white surfaces.

I'm not even done with this code and I am already dreading maintaining it. There is so much magic.

As far as mobile games go I am never to interested in or really bother much with some of them. But Honkai Impact 3rd really makes me go woaaah every time I play it. The graphics are absolutely stunning and so is the gameplay. Damned game looks absolutely gorgeous and it makes me think or xbox360 graphics. I do not have a good eye for graphics at all and I am not much of a pc or console gamer. So take that with a grain of salt.

Teachers. We put so much effort in learning, I think it's only fair that you know what you teach. You are supposed to simplify our learning process not make it worse. We don't need a lecture hour to read your ppts.

After responding to that rant asking our ages I realised how much fucking time I have wasted. I'm not afraid of aging, but man, if I had started learning programming two or even one year ago I'd know so much more right now. But fuck, I've been procrastinating life for 21 years. 21 FUCKING YEARS!

I hate websites that heavily relies on javascript for showing webpages.

Debugging in deep "pages" is so much time consuming.

Im coming from PHP. I feel comfy around PHP.

I needed for other project GO lang (there is no library for what I need to do in PHP, and it's low level thing anyway)

I need dependency that is in form of modules.

Okay, so importing it (just writing import "github.com/blah/blah/v3/blah" as suggested in docs did not work. something something, not found)

Some googling later, I created go.mod file.

And all the hell broke lose. So I am trying to fix that using random stack overflow, IDE highlights entire project on red, go complains it can't find "./" while it looks for it in gopath not project files and claims it's remote repository.

Among other WTFnessness after adding go.mod it suddenly stopped fetching ANY dependencies (including stuff like github.com/pkg/errors ), so, that's fun...

I added go.mod before 9 AM.
It's 13 and Im still wrestling with this

I fail to connect the dots why go lang get's so much praise for it's apparently awesome or something package managment... I find "composer install", and have pretty much guarantee it will work, much easier to wrap my head around.

I just love the feeling when you test a site on mobile and you can't help but say to yourself, "Damn, I'm good" because the menu is just so usable and scales beautifully.

Not so much of a "tool" but as someone with a small monitor, I can't imagine my life without workspace in linux and/or virtual desktop on win 10

Me: "Oh, so it's not Chrome eating up system resources, there's a memory leak in gnome-shell.... WHAT!? WHY!? How do I switch back to Unity?"

One month after install...

Me: "Yeah, so I tried it out, but then I threw my computer in a river and I'm *so much* better off now."

I love coding so much that I end up re-inventing the wheel more often than not. Like, I'll see an interesting problem and I'll prefer coding it myself than just google it. That's definitely a form of masochism. 🥺

Why old video games, kinda PS1 aesthetics, feel so much more magic and fun, and modern games feel like dystopia depression?
It has to do with child memories? I think there is something more to that. E.g. Colin mcrae 2.0 although has worst physics compared to later titles like Need For Speed, is so much more fun to play and get hooked to it (if example does not work for you, replace it accordingly).
I think there is something to do with the lower quality graphics that trigger imagination, but i am not sure. What is your opinion ?

Not sure it's so much about my vacation, but my boss' one. I look forward to uninterrupted days in the office where I can work without much small talk or having to explain my logic in great detail to a non-technical boss. I'm at this magnificent company, working scrum, doing continuous integration which is really very cool. But although the features we develop are really nice it is sooooooo boring.

One of our team members emphasized that we should not pick up new stories if we haven't finished previous stories yet. I agree to some extent but think it is ok to pick up new stories if you have nothing to do. But we may not.

So, here I am now. Literally waiting for the day to pass. This sucks sooooo much!

I'm a hard worker and perform at my best under pressure with many things to do. Now, I just deployed one tiny little story today. I can do much much more. I feel so useless and cannot believe that my client pays so much just for me being at the office. And occasionally clicking a button and writing a line of code. This is so fucked up.

Gotta stop providing better code solutions to crap that's not my business, roped into so much crap and now I have to put all these bad code fixes into some intern training scenarios or something​...fml

I hate fucking SteamVR stuff so much. I don't know why, but Valve has not set up the plugins in a way that makes any sense. I have so many workarounds in the project I'm working on it makes me sick.

I spent half a month shifting my code base from express to you in view of better performance and what not.

This one is easy, being forced to use visual studio! In fact I made one or two rants about it.

To top it off using NuGet as a pm was also not a great experience to say the least.

Luckily I was not alone and my team agreed and we rewrote the entire legacy code in Java... A much much better experience!

So that was my worst experience.. My best experience was that I started my first big non-school related project and I am super excited!!

Not a rant, just something that made me laugh way too much. We wanted to test this error logger we made to see if it could report where the error happened, so we wrote a function that just throws an exception. Not sure what to call it, we called it “shitTheBed”.

So it looked like:

I almost want to leave it there.

So far, I'm not a fan of Ubuntu touch on the pinephone. I think ill plan on switching to PostmarketOS this weekend. It looks more bare bones from what I've seen (admittedly not very much so far) but looks like it's for more features working. UBports has a ways to go yet.
