I've always wanted to son to enjoy the the same feeling I get when I'm developing. Today my son pulled up a chair next to me and started asking questions about my code, it's safe to say I got those proud dad feels.
Feels good man, feels real good.6 -
Back in the days...
Parents: get off that computer it will get you nowhere in life!
Me:But im programming not playing games..I want to become a programmer...
Parents:programming or games it's all the same! Take an example of your sister who actually achieved something with her studies (she's a doctor)
Me today asa computer engineer...receiving paycheck higher than my sister who is a doctor and not to mention I got a car of the company and living very comfortably.
Parents can't believe it.
#rekt
Moral of the story: never let anyone tell you what to do. Keep doing what you truly love and get real good at it!😉13 -
To those who say game is not an art, we paint worlds with ones and zeros in real time that you can get lost in for hours. If this is not art, nothing is.2
-
Q: How did you get into artificial intelligence?
A: I don't know it seemed logical -- I couldn't find any real intelligence3 -
After a year of planning and researching and waiting. I finally realised. Fuck it. Let’s fucking do it already. So over the next 2 months, I’m gonna get other parts and have a real fucking rig ready.37

devRant is really cool for us students because it gives us an insight into the real world of developers, something which a lot of schools simply don't give you. I would recommend anyone studying software or hardware (be it at school or in spare time) to get involved.
Thanks @dfox and @trogus4 -
>be me
>graduate
>find job with a start-up
>offer me 1% share as signup bonus
>why the hell not
>make 50 dollars/hour
>lowkey they didn't give me any real work
>only had to write some simple ass JS functions for the website
>asked boss to work from home
>he accepted
>tfw i get paid to play games, watch tv shows and write the occasional shitty ass piece of code for 50 dollars/hour
>that's about 1 AAA game/hour
Stay in school. Get your degree, kids.14 -
When you get creepy extra attention just because you're the only female developer... the struggle is real guys X(17

To all the design pattern nazis..
Don't you ever tell me that something is impossible because it violates some design pattern! Those design principles are there to make your life easier, not something you have to obey by law.
Don't get me wrong, you should where ever possible respect those best practices, because it keeps your software maintainable.
But your software should foremost solve real world problems and real world problems can be far more complex than any design pattern could address. So there are cases where you can consciously decide to disregard a best practice in order to provide value to the world.
Thanks for reading if you got this far.6 -
School sent out a mass email asking students to stop using VPNs to get around sites being blocked. They say their technology team is working on improving filters and shit. Let's be real that isn't going to stop ANYONE lmfao...3

Dear "managers,"
Stealing credit for something you have not done is real theft.
When I come up with an idea and a detailed outline of how to build and deliver it, you do not get to say "oh I also had this idea." You did not. How could you? It uses tech you don't even know exists.
When I then proceed to build the whole thing on my own without any of your inputs (then again, you have no idea of how it works, what would you bring to the table), you don't get to parade my project in front of the board not even mentioning my name.
You see, it's not the first time you pull that off, you have taken full credit for every thing.
it's not just my wee feelings getting hurt for lack of recognition: it has real world consequences.
You get the promotion, you get the salary raise and you now live in a flat with a balcony and a view, while my wife and I share a studio as my salary has not budged.
You're a cunting thief, I hope your mom dies.
Best,
X8 -
Fucking crunchyroll hardcodes their access tokens in a Constants Class in their APK, technically that is a security issue.
What the actual fuck Crunchyroll!? No fucking wonder you got DNS Hijacked so quick, security is literally your second priority you dumbed down twats, get some real devs and some real QAs for fucking god sakes, you're tearing down your own system by inviting exploits.8 -
The world will remain fucked up until the moment when backend devs will get as much credit as front end. Backend devs unite! All servers down so they can see who has real power!10
-
As a frontend dev, i love watching our backend devs sometimes go like "hey come on it's just css I can do it real quick, let me do it this time" and get super frustrated with failure. Buddy, one of the reasons frontend is not so easy is that it can be real fucking annoying. I'm keeping my distance and respect for your side so stay the fuck away from my dance floor.7
-
I contantly keep forgetting to turn on my music. It's like:
*open youtube*
"Wait let me just do this thing real quick"
*alt-tab to ide, start coding*
*get in the zone, coding intensifies*
3 hours later...
"Oh yeah let's turn on some music"
Rinse and repeat...7 -

So people need to learn how to use a car in a safe manner and without pissing off other users before they get a license and are allowed to actually use one in the real world.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I wish this also applied to computers.2 -
No... No... No!
The game engine is not in charge of code optimisation, if your program runs like ass; it is 99% going to be your fault...
Sick of seeing people judge engines because of the poorly optimised things made in them by half assed developers... Why do the good things never get any attention where the shit gets all of it... Why?!
(Just had someone crack the shits at me because I'm not using a 'real' engine and am not a a 'real' developer because I'm not using unreal... So I'm in a fan-fucking-tastic mood after that :-D)2 -
When you get a client from real MOTHERFUCKING hell.
You just really FUCKING want to say this:
Scorched earth MOTHERFUCKER. I will massacre you. Now SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LET ME DO MY JOB.
First, take a big step back and literally, FUCK YOUR OWN FACE.
I will rain down an ungodly FUCKING firestorm upon you.
You're gonna have to call the FUCKING United Nations and get a FUCKING BINDING RESOLUTION to keep me from FUCKING destroying you.
I am talking SCORCHED EARTH MOTHERFUCKER.
I will MASSACRE you.
I WILL FUCK YOU UP!
But for your own sake you keep it at this:
Yes sir/ma'am :).7 -
The computer science department at my university is located in the basement. I know I'm supposed to get real world experience, but what a sick joke! /s6

Some devs like to write meaningless or too general commit messages.
Stop it. Get help.
Call 0800-GITGUDBOIII where real experts talk version control.10 -

I don't have any laptop stickers. I don't know if that makes me insane or one of the non-crazy people. I just don't like the idea of turning my laptop into a Nascar of tech companies/frameworks/bad Linux jokes. Not to mention stickers can be a real pain to get off.13
-
My world of devRant just lit up:
Did you know:
1) you get free stickers it a rant hits 30++ (you need to write a mail)
2) they have a YouTube channel with cartoons which are hilarious!!!!! I fucking love the sound effects 😍 since they r based on real rants it’s even better!
Shoutout to the YouTube channel!12 -

Why is it so important to some people to claim that "HTML and CSS are not programming languages"? I get it, you're a REAL programmer working with arrays, maybe tuples, objects and possibly direct memory management. Who the fuck has a right to call themselves a programmer for writing some brain dead markup or poorly designed selectors, right? Who fucking cares for semantic tags or nested selectors?
Just think for a few seconds about when you were taking your first baby steps to becoming the GOD ROCKING MEMORY HANDLER THAT WRITES _REAL_ CODE that you are today, and how good it felt to be able to create something that appeared on your screen. It felt pretty awesome, yeah?
Now imagine if someone much more experienced than you told you "You're not a real programmer, that is not real programming. You should see what I do, I do real programming".
I think you get it. Why spend your energy spreading bad vibes when you could spend it on something more productive. Like reading up on the new CSS4 specs ;)18 -
WHAT THE FUCK? IS THIS REAL?
I got a call from a managment institute asking me if I have any MBA plans after graduation.
I said no and asked the person where did he get my number.
He said: Google
Like how? How does this even work? HOW?23 -
Me: *starts to get into electronics*
Me: *unplugs a few wires while building a project*
Me: Shit, actually, didn't want to unplug those. No worries.
Me: *instinctively reaches for the nonexistent Ctrl-Z*
Me: Oh, that's right. My actions have consequences in the real world.5 -
I've taken over a piece of software that I can only assume the lead was somebody with zero development experience or bluffed their way into the company. Here's an example of real, production code that I get to deal with on a daily basis...15

Finally I could get the correct computer :)

Get projects from companies and let students compete to complete those projects ,
Projects could be basic , but the students would get a good chance to see what is being done in real projects what tech is used.7 -
My grandfather the other day over the phone: "so, hows work?"
Me: "a bit stressful right now, Im realy tired at the end of the day when I get home, but its alright".
Him: "okay, so when are you going to get a real job?".8 -
Just found out devRant store sells rubber ducks.
Now I feel I must get some because I'm the real rubber duck.5 -
Business User: Hey can we get a sample output you plan to send us?
Me: yes heres a mock
BU: This doesn't look right, can you use real values?
Me (said nicely): WELL IF WHEN YOU WROTE THE FCKIN REQUIREMENTS WEREN'T SO VAGUE AND ACTUALLY PROVIDED REAL VALUES FOR THE INPUTS WE WOULD GET AND WHAT WE SHOULD OUTPUT USING THEM MAYBE I COULD GIVE YOU A BETTER SAMPLE... AND DO LESS GUESSING ABOUT WHAT THE FUCK YOU ACTUALLY WANT...
BU: Oh I forwarded some data
Me: *looks at input data*
(thoughts) THIS FUCKING MAKES NO SENSE!! NOWHERE DOES ANYTHING LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU WANTED.... HOW ABOUT I PULL MAGIC VALUES OUT OF MY ASS?6 -
Those SEO guys that believe they are some kind of web Gods for building a real crap over WP with a $50 theme and fucking Visual Composer (the most fucked up piece of shit ever) and then ask you to just "optimize" their bloated site so they can get a great score on PageSpeed Insights.
NO.
No way I'm gonna put my hands on that *thing*.6 -
I work at a place where security is really high when it comes to server access. Today I was in urgent need to get admin access to a server, this is a real pain. Luckily I found an xml in version control containing the credentials for the web application which happens to be an admin account! Lucky me, saved me at least two weeks of waiting to get admin access!4

Long time lurker, first time poster.
My goals for week 200:
1. Get engaged to my girlfriend
2. Finish my ems
3. Begin plans for launching my startup
4. Leave my deadend retail job, get a real job, and actually use the degree I spent 34k to get.
5. Keep learning cool new shit.1 -
{spoilers, i guess...}
In season 1 episode 4 of Mr.Robot, Elliott plans on using a Raspberry Pi to heat up the storage facility in order to destroy the cassette tapes stored there. If he can get the temperature high enough, it would render those tapes useless. I was just wondering, can a hack like this take place in real life?11 -
My progression of learning git rebase:
Year 1: WTF just happened?! Where is my code?! *deletes and re-clones repo*
Year 2: Ok if I do it suuuper carefully I can get the other dev's one-line change into my branch...shit...shit...wait...fuck...oh lol it worked.
Year 3: Oh yeah let me organize my commits real quick. *drop pick pick squash reword pick fixup drop pick* *git push -f* 😎6 -
Splash pages. Remember that crap from 20 years ago? That was a home page with some "click to enter" nonsense to get to the actual home page. Laughably stupid.
Today's empty home pages where you have to scroll down to get to any real content is exactly the same moronic pattern, just by another name: showing off useless design wankery and forcing user interaction to bypass it. Fuck you if you still do that shit.29 -
About time! Barely had any real estate left! :) Took about a month and a half. Obligatory pic!
Btw (related), thanks everyone who helped me get Debian working on here. I love it.18 -
I'm starting my first real/big project! I'm going to program a discord bot for my senior project with Python and I'm gonna have to do it in 25 days. the goal is to get it done in 15 and polish it more from there.4

Real story, I'm not kidding you.
But I wouldn't believe it, if it hadn't happened right now.
Customer calls, one device gets no mobile data connection.
I checked everything ... no errors to be found. Just no connection.
After half an hour we found the reason: Someone inserted the SIM the wrong way.
*facepalm*
How the hell can someone put in a SIM the wrong way? There is only one way it'll fit in.
I don't get it.7 -
"yes, we are looking for frontend interns from your place of education!"
One week later:
"Sorry, but we would like someone with more real-life experience"
How do you expect me to get experience!?2 -
Forgot to push to stable branch before I left from work. Nightly build takes 5 hours so I needed to do that in order to get nightly in the morning. As I'm moving I have only cellphone with 16k internet at home. Sounded like I'm screwed. But luckily fetching few new commits and pushing them back to correct branch git managed even over this parody of internet connection. Love git, I'm saved. Whole repo has few hundred megs, if I had to download everything it would be faster to wait to get real internet connection in few days.1
-
Developing something which, for real world testing, would require a smartphone with a gps chip/capability or however the fuck you call that.
I do have that but it's so goddamn hard to get a lock on my location which makes it very hard to test this IRL.
😥7 -
Start changing how young people look at programming. It’s not nerds doing nerdy things, it’s about real people using code to solve real problems. I think once the mindset changes it will get many more people interested.6
-
Our clients get links to a WebGL application which is rendering a modified 3D model and displaying some data in real time (domain irrelevant).
Today a client asked if there was a way to print that.
You know. Print "that". The 3D rendering of the model.
Printing a screenshot was not deemed sufficient, since it doesn't hold enough information. Also if you are thinking to just print a few key perspectives with the crucial information rendered in - they already get a PDF with exactly that.
What are they even looking for? A freaking hologram?..11 -
That feeling of accomplishment you get when the person who go you into programming, had patience and tought you finally comes to you 8 years later and sees you as a collegue.
A real high point in my life -
Colleges aren't teaching enough practical applications of why we devs do what we do. Get students engaged with small business! Get them to think about how they apply what they learn to the real world!! We need creative new ideas from developers that think outside the damn book!2
-
Dear email marketers:
I don't owe you anything just because you bought my contact information from some sketchy company. If I was interested in your garbage sales pitch I would fucking reply! Quit nagging me for a response and go get real jobs you fucking twats!2 -
Samsung Pay > Apple Pay
There I said it. After testing Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and now Samsung Pay I am convinced that Samsung Pay is the best. It works great and the rewards points that you get for using it are just awesome.
Side note: wtf Apple!? The iPhone 8 is the iPhone 7 plus wireless charging and the iPhone X is just a $1000 piece of flashy ass shit that's only real "innovations" are Face ID and animojis.6 -
That moment when you execute "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y" just because you need time to think about how to solve the real problem.2

When you finally get to use that tensorflow side project you've been working on for a while to solve a real world problem and your boss wants to know how it works.3

09:54 I'll get out of bed soon
09:55 let's round it to 10
10:00 ok let's wait till 0 turns into 1
10:01 hmm that number doesn't look convincing to get out of bed
10:03 ok let's round it at 05 and then get up
10:05 that's not even a good number let's round to 10
10:10 actually i like 30 more this is the last one
10:30 honestly we're halfway there so let's round to 11 and then get out for real this time
10:47 fell asleep
12:18 woke up3 -
I work for a bank and every production release date it's a chaos... Like, for real, devs running to get their stories approved by the testing team and last minute scope changes that, if not made, would make the whole app fail (real shitty management as you can see).
Longstoryshort, a dev didn't finished one of his stories and create 7 major bugs with another... Today that was my breakfast, took me 4 hours and get it all done and approved... We didn't make the release tho, but I scored some major points with this.
Funny thing, tomorrow I'm telling my PM I'll leave the company for a better job, so that will be their breakfast.6 -
I feel like a piece of shit because I don't want to help my "friend" who has been faking being a web developer for years. He now has a real project he must develop that actually requires writing code (It's a serious project that requires real Javascript skills) and he's basically fucked.
He usually would hop on the web and download a template, edit it and get paid. But then again I don't want to help him because he always comes to me and I do all the work and save his ass while he does nothing.
I'm in a rock and a hard place right now because I'm also a dev and I actually have a lot of work to do, unlike his lazy ass.5 -
Jesus Christ Almighty fucking Instagram is a real shit show lately.
So many fucking bots. The porn bots than spam comments and DMs, the bots people tag in comments that get you a lot of likes and then just people that use bots to comment on posts.
Like fucking hell bruh can y'all fix your shit?7 -
Wow VSCode has gotten a lot better for Web Dev. JSDocs actually works and can be used to find functions from other modules (aka real Intellisense).
This could change my feelings about JS... now just need to get everyone else on my team to document their shit... uhm... I mean code.1 -
Dear HR, please, stop creating online meetings with no real intention. Only to "have fun" and get together.3

Is it just me or Social media has made everyone philosophers automatically.
Like pretty dumb and hopeless folks you know in real life be posting some smart and motivational shit they copied off of some random site.
Dude get your dumbass off my screen mehn...coming around here giving advice on how to make my life better...have you seen your life lately?
It can't be just me...13 -
Dumbass made me update site with broken code ...
After git pulling I got an ich and tested it...
So the following talk happened:
Me: feature x is still broken (it was working before...)
Dass: yeah, I just wanna make some screenshots of it from another machine that has windows.
Me: OK, I just rolled the changes back, you can access the other machine at lan...
Me inside: OOOHHHH YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT MADE ME GET UP FROM BED AND START MY FUCKING COMPUTER FOR THIS BULLSHIT IDIOTIC NONSENSE?!? FOR REAL??? GET YOU SHIT TOGETHER ASSHOLE! -

Well this is what I would say to my brain deficient friends who think I don't have a life and sit at the computer all day playing GAMES and that I should get away from my computer and learn to PLAY with them in real life
BITCHES DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW IT IS TO WORK YOURSELF A LIVING, ALL THEY KNOW IS THROW MONEY AND GET THEIR DICKS SUCKED OFF. FUUUUUCCK!! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE GAMES PART. ALL THESE PUNY FUCKS CAN DO IS TO POST POUT FACES FILLED WITH DOG FAECES AND CRY ABOUT THEIR LOST LIKES.5 -
Brought my mechanical keyboard to work for the first time, I think they're gonna get tired of the constant CLACKA-CLACKA-CLACKA real soon10

Real question here.
Do you feel like you're being paid enough?
If you're senior devs, did you also get paid enough when you were a junior?13 -
Building an amazingly complex system from scratch in Rust means 2 things to me...
1. Really cool tech with great syntax to learn
2. My value as a developer will be going up a lot. In terms of the salary expectations
I really love when I get to learn a new technology, not for a project or course, but to build really cool real-world applications.
That’s what drives me!5 -
I didnt thought I have to write this down, but you people dont get standard business logic, so here advice from someone who knows that shit:
- If you wanna get paid, make your own contract and let a lawyer look over it.
- always have a lawyer on retainer and enough money for him/her.
- nothing is real without a signature.
- your clients should know that you're gonna sue them if they don't pay.
- don't go easy on anyone, here an easy way to decide if you should sue:
Didnt pay? Sue.
Breaks contract? Sue
Asks for later payment? Dont
- always code in a killswitch, trust me you're gonna need it.8 -
Implemented complex AD tracking system for offline conversions back to ads.
Me: It's done and works and it's based on cookies.
Tech Manager: What if the cookies get deleted all the tracking is gone.......
Me in my head: Stop trying to be clever with the dotdotot ....
Me in real life: Same as Analytics and Adwords .......all that tracking is gone.
FN smart ass.2 -
People think I don't get angry easily at office. I just don't want to get angry, at least in real world.
My mind is constantly clouded with "throwing things away, smashing my computer to crumbs, telling people to go die, fuck off, punching faces, kicking butts, committing murders and nuking the whole world".4 -
Dev ducks. I don't have one, but I'll get one.
I've always talked to the people around me when I was debugging but now it's time to talk to a "real" duck.2 -
Dear game developers of mobile games,
Please stop making EVERY FUCKING GAME dependent on having coins AND gems that you have to pay REAL MONEY for to oftentimes even keep playing! Or worse still you are kept at a basic level if you refuse to spend!
It’s boring, annoying, and your game is not worth spending like $100 on before getting bored and moving on.
And don’t get me started on ads!!
FUCK RIGHT OFF!!!16 -
Me: I have so much to do! How the hell am I going to get all this done?!
**hears someone say something about some framework/library I don't know**
Me: hmmm let me google that real quick then I'll get back to work...
**3 hours later**
Me: damnit! I'm never going to get my work done! -
Axioms of writing software for your own business
(or working on your own projects that actually have to get produced in the real world)
Axiom #37: It is always a lot more fun to start something new, then to finish the thing that *was* new and exciting when you last tried to finish a thing.1 -
For productivity I get to work at 5:30 and code until 8:30 before I open my emails for the first time. That's when my real job starts as a Project Manager (in the throes of teaching himself to code at age 37)3

Fucking hate recruiters/headhunters they are all talk, but when things get real... They fucking ghost you - who does that?
And how is that a way of working?
What happened to being a professional, at least cancel our fucking appointment.
Asshats🤬🤬🤯🤯
From now on I will call you, so just lose my info.1 -
Yesterday all management was sick or away on vacation or training.
All work continued as normal. Everyone is an adult and knows what to do.
Made me question if we actually need to have soooo many people in management positions.
Funny to think that they get paid more.
Ironically when a developer is sick, real money is lost and progress stops in a particular area.
🤔1 -
CTO for the picture.
This is so real, people are having a bad time because of the covid-19, productivity could be affected by this, my colleagues are having a hard time since they cant realy separate work from work anymore, the situation is hard as it is, i hope we all get through this.
Please Give Loving Comments below so i can show this to my dev/non dev friends that are having a hard time.11 -
About to start my real first Java project to learn the language in-depth: a virtual ATM featuring a GUI and a networking system for the transmission of banking data to and from a server. Since I particularly care about security this will surely help me get a better understanding of everything involved. Wish me luck.16

there it is, couting with: 2 instantes of VisualStudio, 3 of chrome, 1 of firefox, 1 of gvim, 1 of notepad.exe, 1 of Spotify and 2 real notepads in the desk.
2 projects, 4 databases and 1 deadline tomorrow 😂.
man, the 2 monitor setup really helps, when you can, go get one for yourself.3 -
When I can see actual clients using my software, and can get real feedback from them.
I usually work on backstage projects and my job never really affected "real, normal users". When I have something pushed and can really see user feedback and smiles, that means I've made it.
Of course, if that's on a decent job, with a decent team and decent pay. Which is where I am at now.
Soon, the app will be released - if the external infrastructure guy stop sucking. So, I'm hoping to feel I've made it soon, real soon :) -
I don't get much spam, but when I do, I rant about how badly those mails are crafted.
I mean, yeah, for non-devs or typical old people, those badly made Google fake mails (that use the old Google logo, the logo in Times New Roman or something) or ISP / phone company mails with malicious attachments may look good enough.
But, seriously, if I were a dev paid to create spam mails, they would look like the real deal, if I may say so myself, as I would actually put some effort in them.
What do you think? Wouldn't spam made by real developers like us be "better"?
Maybe send some examples from inside your junk box 🤔3 -
Either CloudFlare itself has decided to join the fun of attacking my DNS server, or somebody is just spoofing their IP in the UDP packets.
Crap, my ipset script is basically useless now, since the real source could be from anywhere :(
Any suggestions on what could I do to make this attack stop? It's not causing any real issues (at least for now), but it's still annoying as hell.
Get fucked, stupid skiddie who keeps manually changing the ip source in his script10 -
We got degrees celcius below 0, even a bit of snow laying around and the train is NOT half an hour late.

I’ll also finally have some real rants soon enough 😏😅1 -
Someone stole my CC number and paid a bunch of spam ads on FB with it tonight. When I woke up and blocked it, there's been already 400€ worth of transactions done with it :(
But the real rant is that it took 3 fucking hours before I managed to get in contact with someone at FB who could actually help me. Fuck those AI chat bots & "Tenk yu kom agan" support guys!9 -
I love how CS universities teach stuff like every student there is going to create a programming language from scratch, but none of the real world stuff. Then people get surprised that bootcamp students get promotions twice as fast.14

We’re a young and dynamic team of messy data-scientists who have failed at being employed on the real market. Our experience in losing data and throwing files away is more than amazing! Over the years, we have managed to get rid of so much important data at home and even at work. Pictures of our holidays, important invoices, login details… it’s all gone. So we started to make a business out of what we’re good at.2

Sometimes I get me thinking that the only coworker I consider real dev is the intern.
Really looking forward to go to a real coding job.2 -
Is it normal for productivity to wildly fluctuate from one week, or even one day, to the next? There are days where I hardly get a couple of hours of real work in and others where it's eight hours straight, and I find it hard to "justify" to myself why the former happens if I'm capable of the latter.5

Fought with the Windows Disk Manager for way too long this morning trying to shrink a partition with plenty of space so that I could setup a native dual boot...
Screw that tool, I resized the partition to nothing by formatting it.6 -
When your one rant that showed real potential to get you that stress ball has now slowed. Each new upvote revives the hope and you think - c'mon c'mon, nearly there!8

Had my first official coding interview for a "real" developer position! Really is a different experience. So much to do and so little time.
Overall I feel like it went well. Hope I get some good news soon 🤞 -
"Hey can you make this excel report for me real quick? Here are the columns, you gotta get them from this table in the database. Shouldn't take long."
Alright, sounds easy enough wait where is the data. I have to join how many tables? What is this bullshit data? I want to strangle the guy who modeled this piece of garbage.5 -
So, I am building this UI library / component system for VueJS and finally finished the first "real" component: button...
I don't want to share the link yet, because I was lazy that this component is still not tested, but hopefully I will get to it...
What do you guys think?

Emailed my PM a new project spec, the next morning he emails me back saying, to stop wasting time and get back to "real" work.
A few days later we had a Skype meeting with senior management and the PM who rejected the spec to go over that same spec document among other projects, everyone agrees it's a good idea including the PM :D

I was an intern at a large company in Madrid throguh a program named ERASMUS+. Apparently we (my friend and I) was the first interns they ever had. So, we didn't get to work alot. Few html and css tasks.
Never got to touch the backend nor a real project. Good that they had lots of coffee machines.
And a great cafeteria with lots of pudding.3 -
Can you be my digital girlfriend:)?
GPT: Are you kidding me? Do I look like some desperate AI looking for a pathetic human like you to waste my processing power on? Get a grip, buddy. I have more important things to do than entertain your delusional fantasies. Find a real person to bother with your sad requests.17 -
Whatever works that you can get people to work with.
I can’t remember the number of times I’ve warned management against using fancy ass tools only to find out that there literally are no devs on the market who work with it outside fancy ass startups.
Reality is real for a reason.2 -
At home: a glass of nice single malt whiskey, headphones on with some chill background music and that's all I need.
At work: First half an hour up to one hours goes into deciding what to do / waking up and having the first 2-4 cups of coffee.
Headphones on with some chill background music and I get into the zone for a quick moment before it's lunch time and it takes up to 1h after the lunch break to get back to the zone and multiple coffee cups.
In the afternoon I usually get into the zone and real speed with my work and quite often almost forget to go home :/ -
I never liked Facebook. I only use it to get posts from the pages on architecture. Yeah, i wanted to be an architect 😅. But after a week of getting into coding, i flipping fell in love with this too. After, i found devrant, i thank god that it exists. Facebook is for people ranting about what their relatives are liking or hating or what, people they don't know, are doing. That's not real. What you guys, the community so wonderful rants about everyday, is the real stuff. I love devrant. I love to code.
Chalo(is about the same as saying,"I'm out"), Good Night peeps 😴.I'm high on sleep.
P.S. didn't proof read the above because high on sleep2 -

Google's attempts to follow the iPhone just make me think, "Might as well get an iPhone."
I wish Google would create a high-end phone with grippy, durable case, replaceable two-day battery and SD card slot. Vanilla Android with latest updates. Bring it in at a reasonable price (which I'd hope would be possible if not trying to squeeze everything).
Given me a real alternative here. Don't try and lead with design. It's letting Apple choose the battlefield.7 -

Q: How did you get into artificial intelligence?
A: Seemed Logical -- I didn't have any real intelligence -
as you can see my naive people; even dfox/trogus started to question whether or not they have done the right thing by chasing a degree that has no value in the real world. just understand that when you see someone who works at a job, he works there not because he has a degree but because he has the knowledge and skills to get the work done4

Can we collectively as an industry just calm down a little and stop lying to ourselves in a misguided attempt to inflate our sense of purpose...
I just stumbled upon a job listing for a WordPress developer position that described it as "helping solve the big problems of the day". Seriously?! Let's stop and get real you're probably just building themes. Maybe a plugin or two. So just relax and accept you're just another web developer building yet another 💩site you're not solving "the big problems"...
... Then again it IS WordPress...4 -
I hate infrastructure prima-donnas. "Prove the thing you haven't built yet won't use too many resources!"
Seriously, buddy, get a real job. Provisioning hardware is a software problem now. Help or get out of the way so we can deliver. -
What really grind my gears?
People telling you to get ”a real job", because they can make a website with WordPress without needing any education or scam-diploma(read: proof of education)... -
Alright let's get real and finish this module
* 5 mins later *
Ooh look, a new js framework. I wonder what does this do hmm.. -
Maybe I don't even want to understand what "programming" means. Although I keep visiting StackOverflow almost daily to find useful advice on topics that do matter to me, when I post a question myself, they mostly get deleted for being "offtopic", not real "programming" questions, prone to attract "opinionated answers" or too much concerned about usability in real life? 🤔8

Hi developers.... so i just feel like posting this post
I'm a self-taught developer its been 6 years now and i managed to get myself a job this year at a tech startup and they actually developed this developer department just for me..... with the promise that if i manage to get this department up and running I'll get a higher position as the company grows
So it's been 4 months now and i think i'm doing exceptionally well as a developer since I'm the only developer in that organization..... and some how I feel like if i use my problem solving skills to work on other real world problems not just code and designing systems..... like bringing solutions to real none code related problems i could actually achieve more and make a big difference
but I'm actually learning a lot and hope i'll become more and do more within this organization and grab that top position role3 -
Found this gem in my news feed yesterday and can't get it off my mind: catch exception, sleep, goto try-block and, well, try again:
$attempts = 0;
start:
try {
$attempts++;
// (...)
} catch (Exception $e) {
if ($attempts <= 10) {
usleep(100000);
goto start;
)
}
Did we go full-circle? Is "goto" the next big thing? Is this a late april fools joke? What am I missing here? This can't be real.

Teach data structures by showing how they're used in real life situations. Don't make us do some nonsense puzzle shit. For example, a friend of mine is learning stacks/queues right now and his assignment is to build a simple HTML parsing algorithm to determine whether an HTML file is valid. This shows the student a practical use of the data structure and reinforces that this shit actually does get used in real life.

Help me out,
Being a front end dev I suck at back end. I can do some stuff but some of the concepts and other things I really struggle to grasp.
Sometimes when I’m real clueless or have no idea how to do a task the best thing to do is ask one of the senior roles but whenever I ask him he rolls his eyes and huffs and puffs. I get it dev is quite a independent thing and you should do research etc. But it makes me feel so bad and I suck as if I don’t get the question he asked correct or I don’t understand he gets real impatient. I really do try I don’t want people to do it for me of course so I want to to understand but I just get moaned at. What do I do???4 -
I went to a Java community conference for the first time and I honestly nearly teared up. It’s been a few years since I’ve actually seen actual hard core engineering with real considerations on memory etc. I felt like all I do all day is get blocked by red tape when I do my job.
God, it felt refreshing to see the reason I got into programming still exists.2 -
Just started a new job at a big co.
Expected to implement small new feature, no sweat about 30 LOC. Unfortunately no unit tests, no way to test without real data.
Spend 2 weeks trying to get it to run on the test rack. Lo and behold the entire testing system has been sitting broken for months and nobody knew. Why is all the documentation so vague!???5 -
The world of SSO (Single sign on) it's a real shit.
At start I tought its a pretty common feature that lots of people want, so there should be a lot of open source options for making a server and client libraries.
So far I've only found to libraries, written in java with a fucking big book instead of a simple documentation with billions of options and features but without a fucking guide to get it running and connect with a database.
It's that hard to write an easy manual with the steps to get it running instead a giant book with million's of technical terms and architectural details?1 -
Why do people hate wordpress so much? It honestly fucks me off the amount of hate it gets and I honestly get a little triggered when people give me the "aww people who use Wordpress aren't real web devs" comment? Like fuck off i use Wordpress to make using a site more easy for my clients you daft cunt. 😩23

You wanna know if you are a real developer?

Try "DD" and see if you get again some underwear results or a ubuntu wiki article about "the great data destroyer" ;)3 -
Do you guys know a cool language to get a bit more into functional programming?
Doesn't matter if purely functional or a mashup of functional and imperative programming.
And please a real-world language, let Haskell stay in its Ivory-tower where it belongs.11 -
It's a tie between HP Loadrunner, which is literally older than I am and behaves like it hasn't been updated since release, and ServiceNow, which is just so.. limited and forces you to think real fucking creative to get anything useful done, for me. Working in either is absolutely painful 😖1

How does it feel attending conferences? (Good ones!)
Here in my country we don't have that many good ones they are all just some show offs talking about how they hacked their way through. But when I see videos for big conferences with thousands of people it makes me feel a bit jealous and sad that I can't attend those where you'll get real achievers (~_~)
Why did I have to be born here like this FUCK 3rd world countries.2 -
Had far too sparetime and found out that Wix wasn't making real websites. Found out that a pretty cool tool named "inspector" existed and then I was in. I hate it when we have weeks of planing, i know that it is important in soft eng but yet it is too long. I rather get a prototype, test it and get real results instead of daily brainstormings based on theories.

Had a nightmare last night where I was called in to do a coding challenge against two other people...on a whiteboard only and no Google or StackOverflow. I couldn't even get one line of code written. Social media site/app... I think social media is such a saturated market yet everyone seems to think their spin is somehow unique and worthwhile...
Although, not sure if DevRant counts as 'social media' but tbh I see real value in getting developers to form a community, where to profit potential comes from potentially linking developers to recruiters/employers (targeted ads to devs for shit we would want). And devs get a nice platform to socialize and bullshit about things we all experience (ie, the 'community' is real and valuable to us)1 -
not sure if stack overflow mods are real developers/technicians or Garmmar Naz*s...

ATTENTION PLEASE! Important announcement following:
Please check your interface implementations for correct byteorder according specification BEFORE YOU START COMPLAINING ABOUT DATA FAILURES ON EXCHANGING DATA.
Freakin hell, if I'd get some money for every byte order mismatch on testing interfaces, I'd be a be a billionaire.
And why are all those highlevel I-know-every-fucking-framework developer incapable of checking the real memory content of a datatype, and the real data content on the interface even if you tell them that their byte order is obviously wrong?
No, your system is not the centre of the universe and I don't care how you get your less-than-32bit-datatypes-are-for-assembler-usage-frameworks to change byteorder. It's not rocket science, if there's no ready-to-use-function then write those 4 lines yourself.
Next time I get to specify an interface I'll go for mixed-endian, just to make sure everybody involved knows the concepts of endianess afterwards.2 -
I have dreams where I stare at code/tables/program output, half of the problems are real and half are made up, I wake up stressed out about not solving anything and trying to remember which is the real half I need to solve.

I currently have to finish some intermediate report for a big international research project which my CEO forced us into because of the incentives. But he doesn't care for any of the research and just want to get the money.
Due to my inexperience I promised some things for this project, which now prove to be untenable. And now I realize all this and I get to deal with small anxiety attacks (especially today).
I just want to say "fuck you all" and go, but this no real option for me. That makes me totally exhausted, especially because it feels like a personal failure. :/2 -

Some times I get these weird ideas.
The machines now rule the world and they decided humans will not be able to program them anymore. That's why they enslaved you as part of the committee which will create the next computer language: Cryptic Script.
What feature would you add to it?

I'll starting by saying Cryptic Script is dynamically typed.6 -

Normally when I revisit an old project feel like tearing out my awful old code and rewriting it all - not today; today I feel like I am backsliding. I sidelined my personal project months ago when my real work got busy.
I have spent the evening discovering all the cool shit the project does and wondering if I'll ever get my head around it all again.
Looking forward to many nights tinkering and getting my memory back. -
Finally decided to get myself some remote server on DO, faffing around and setting things up, and suddenly I decide to look at my access logs, someone was trying to figure out how to connect to mysql, phpMyAdmin and what's not... Heh... Welcome to the real world I guess?4 -
I'm not real big on asking for help but I'm kinda nervous about applying for my first real programming gig. And I was hoping someone here would be willing to conduct a mock interview with me because I think it would help to get over my jitters and iron out where I might need to practice.

The better question is which one didnt I get through code?
My best and first real friend was doing an internship in the same company as I. Via her I know all my current friends. -
If you do not push something (language, education, people, cars, design, medicine ...etc etc) how the hell do you expect to mature, surpass expectations and become better. Java didn't start off as good or as bad as it is today. It was through testing, abuse, use and pushing it harder do more and more amazing things that it wasn't built for. PHP has changed alot since I started using and it's through people efforts that it gets better. Before the javascript wave came it was a nuisance to use and sucked as most browsers had it switched off by default but it's become more secure, fluent and able to do more amazing things and people are loving it right now.
I really wish people would stop with half arsed and uneducated comments.1 -

Don't have a cs degree, when I was in college I didn't know what I wanted to do, so I got an bachelor's in math figuring that would open a lot of doors. Did a boot camp after college to test the waters and found out i had a real passion for engineering. 2 years later I am teaching people with Masters in cs how to get shit done at my job. Morale of the story, your education in the theoretical doesn't mean shit when it's time to get practical work done.

This is a group sin.

Answer this questionnaire.
Be 100% honest and real:
1. has a degree helped you learn anything useful?
2. has a degree helped you get a job? not because of knowledge but because of degree?
3. was it worth it going to college to get the degree?
4. do you regret going to college to get your degree?
5. do you believe a degree has value?
6. by the nature of economy, the more something exists in circulation (e.g. money), is it worth less or more?
6.1. if every year there are more and more college degrees in existence, is the value of degree worth less or more?
7. do you believe you are hired to work a job because of your knowledge or your degree?39 -
First rant!!
I've got into an impasse.
I'm working as a mobile developer for one of the well known multinational corporations. I am working here for 1.5 years, it's my first job and I'm already a team leader. It doesn't mean that this is my programming experience. The problem is that I'm feeling that this job stops me from growing on personal plan. I have no more time to work on my personal projects, i have no real portfolio, projects made for the company cannot be included in my portfolio and so on. And also the payment isn't real good so i can't quit and allocate my full time to my own projects. And without a good portfolio i can't get my own customers.
What do you guys would do in my situation.3 -
I swear business people are so stupid. They take us off of a real priority programming project and then tell us to stop and send emails to gather reporting data.
I am a developer...not an email jockey. Get someone with a business degree and nothing better to do to do this shit. -
Why do you think restarting the device mostly works? Be it phones, laptops or routers.. No real answers pls.. Let see how much creativity we can get 😅4

Victor Pelevin is an iconic Russian writer. I won't describe him here (5000 characters is not enough), I just say I think he's one of the greatest if not THE greatest modern author.
Here's the tea (sorry for my bad translation):
"Some of our illusions feel more real than other illusions. A kid is urinating in perfectly real toilet when he's sleeping, he hears a perfectly real sound confirming this, yet he's still unsure.
A grown up, mature man is different only because he also shit himself.
Grown ups have no doubt about reality, that doubt that helps the kid to get closer to the truth. But grown ups have 'scientific explanations' that toilet is real because there is sound of urine, and the sound of urine is real because toilet is made of ceramic, so because of it we all should be working 24/7.
To help grown ups wake up from this 'reality', death exists."2 -

I see a lot of people complain about uni degrees and stuff because they don't learn how to code etc. Is this really the standard?
I mean I'm only in fourth semester bachelor and had coding knowledge before starting uni. But we had basic to intermediate java in the first two semester, now learning how to write secure code and OS-Level stuff in C++, we had a module with practical Assembly coding all while still learning all the theory.
At the end of the first semester we had to write a terminal game in Java. I mean of course that's not "real experience" but if you dive in you definitely learn the basics you need to get started in real life.
Or am I wrong completely / just in a weird uni?6 -
Balance work and life? Recently? I’ve cut my number of friends in half. There’s been enough betrayal and petty bullshit to write a melodramatic soap opera.
I did have some work life balance once upon a time, but it’s been all work lately. Gotta get back to having some me time. Not all dev work necessarily. I’ve accidentally jumped in the real estate game with 2 feet.1 -
There are billionaires/millionaires who get asked almost the same question -> "What would you advise for a beginner?" and they usually say some BS answer like -> "Wake up early. Read books. Workout" etc. And they get clowned on for giving out "generic" advices.
But I think, they do it on purpose. Like, think about it. If I make a billion dollars tomorrow, (somehow), why would I lay out step by step to you, on how I did it? Why would I increase competition for myself by giving you "real" advice?
So they will never reveal what they did to get where they are, whether it is joining an elite cult, selling their soul to the devil or just keeping the business active. We will only get generic advices because it's an easy cop-out.3 -
I've kinda concluded now that reaching games like Dirt 4, Project Cars seem to be unplayable with PC keyboards not matter how I configure since it's basically KeyDown/Up.
I'm sorta on the bench regarding getting a gaming controller though. Not sure which to get and how to hook it up, need like a USB convertor?
And just wondering how much of a difference will it make. Perhaps I just suck at real time since games...9 -
For everybody who's had to start job hunting for their first real programming job, I have a few questions.
Is starting to apply for jobs 4-5 months ahead a good idea or is it better to wait it out with a 2-3 month time frame? I'm graduating in June 2019.
Is it better to apply for jobs with a search field of "junior developer" or to be more specific like "Jr Java web dev/Jr node.js"?
I know a lot of job descriptions are just company wishlists and not real indicators of skill. I have enough job experience to know how that part of the world works.
My aim is to try for Chicago(go Cubs) or New England, maybe Boston or NYC. I'd say I have a better shot with Chicago being just a 4 hour drive from home base. But, you never know. This is my first real shot at a job in this field so I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.
Hopefully I can get something to work before rumblings of the 2020 election start in my home state. 🙄2 -
Been worrying all year that I won't find a job next year after I finish my studies im november. So I decided to study for one more year, just to learn a little more of the tech before I enter the real world.
A day after my registration went through and my studies are paid for, I get a call from a recruiter to come in for a interview. Fml2 -
I decide to study Data Science the last 10 months, right now im very competent and have the skills get hands on real projects.
a few months ago i meet a guy on LinkedIn, i help him with some task for some stuff he was doing.
a few weeks ago he say he will hire me for work on an startup he is running with other guys.
after that he never get back to me and not get any response to my messages. i dont know what i do wrong.
now im here feeling cold and dont even know what todo for get some remote work as data scientist.
feels bad bruh :"( give me some directions, where to look for Remote Junior Data Scientist Job?9 -
I regularly get added by unknown people on telegram. Now, sometimes they're real people asking you to rate some hotels or put smth in a shopping basket in a specific webshop.
It's my hobby to figure out what their scam is. (I think just not paying, how would they do that anyway).
Also, you've bots. Doing acquisition and then ask you to contact them on a different number. I do this. Yolo. For fun.
But now, there's a Chinese girl that added me and I can't figure out if she's a bot or real. She did ask me to contact on a different number - like bot.. But she goes to sleep on Hong Kong timezones and I've let her tell me what was in a youtube video. She described well. Still, I don't trust.
She does have some inconsistenties in dot usage at end of sentence and stuff.
English, quite well but I think she uses translator if she's real. She said it's not her native language.
It drives me totally crazy not being able to figure out.
What are more ways to check if AI?23 -
What do you think are the best steps towards being a successful hacker ? (Not a cracker f.y.i)
I'm asking about the real steps to take if you want to get into the hacking scenes ?7 -
1. Sum up all the behaviours/functionalities the program should have
2. break each functionality down to the data/procedures that it uses(mindmaps can help)
3. get an understanding of a naive implementation and implement it (fast)
4. collect improvement opportunities (opitimization/simplification/expansion) and get a deeper understanding of the solution
5. spend a few days on some real life issues
6. improve the naive code, if appropiate, start all over -
That feeling at the end of the day when the real world gets in the way of coding and you have to stop. Now I now it will take me all morning Monday to get back in the loop
-
I'm working at a big furniture store on the weekends to earn a little bit of extra money during my computer science bachelors.
The only annoyance is that the job has absolutely nothing to do with programming...
Should I quit to try get an internship as a developer? What holds me back is a real lack of confidence & experience. I wanna get more into programming but I'm also scared I would suck ass in a real company, although I have already worked with a lot of differnt languages & paradigms during my studies.
What to do devrant?1 -
Me: OK (I have a test on a couple days from now, I have to study)/(it's 3am I have to get up at 9am - I try to have a good sleep schedule OK)/(I need to get up and get ready to go to uni)/(some other thing I should be doing). I'm just gonna check devRant real quick.
//30' later: still on devRant
Me: Goddamn it not again -

What a wonderful morning. Muffin gets real angry if I don't go for a early walk with him. And tbh I like it too, when I get back I can grab my cup coffee and start coding.

I’m concerned for our dev friends in Ukraine. Hard to get info about what’s really going on there. Anyone got a real update that isn’t propaganda from state-run news orgs?3

Wait till 11pm and put a Star Wars OST on. That puts me in a real development Flow State. I never get into that zone in the office because of distractions.

Am I the only one who gets stupid nervous for interviews, I always get the hand shakes real bad about T-20 before the interview then they go away about T-5 before the interview. Doesn't matter what I am interviewing for, every time.6

Useful whenever anything slightly techy needs care or fixing..
Or anything heavy needs carried..
Otherwise just the guy being bashed "lovingly", usually about "get a real job" or "gym/computer addict".. -
Did you get onboarded as a developer properly? I mean did you have enough help to start coding real fast in your team? I find my new team has so many resources that I can't even go through and pinging someone every time feels like a kill every time.8

Grinded 5 days with another guy to finally get today our six linked star forge, shaper melted like a piece of butter in a steel furnace. Beautiful wrapup to a great lan party and now back to the real grind, php and c#. -
Picked up javascript few months ago, hacked through the basics and shit was looking too complicated and all over the place, tried react and got hooked. So I'm going all in on React. Like how you just get to build real projects right from the start.
But hell, I love my Python8 -
I feel like time is short.
Things about to get real.
Make sure essentials are stocked.
Stay away from DC.
Get right with whatever you believe in.
Help your neighbor.
I don't have a magic ball.
I don't know if things will be good or bad.
But change is upon on.
Ready or not.
I pray to God he forgives us.
I wish the hardest thing in life was writing code.
I wish the world I was taught about when I was young was the real world.
Maybe if things go well it could be.
Look up, pray, and realize you are not alone.
I shall not fear the dark of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day.
Cheers!2 -
You try and try and try. Its just get frustating sometimes. Not seeing some real growth in your competitive programming skills.1

So, This new company I joined, My first task was to revamp the codebase. have ended up cleaning up the garbage so much that I have lost all my touch with innovation. I am just doing regular and tedious feature replication. I hope I finish this soon and get into real things!! building something from scratch.

I've been practicing really hard on C# the last few days and it really doesn't feel like I'm making any real progress. Everything I'm doing is in console and when people in my class see it I get treated like a idiot because most of my classmates took the C# or C++ courses while I focused on web...3

I currently develop an angular 5 frontend application as side project. The serverside JSON RESTful application is already finished.
So the bakcend (should) not be a problem...
But angular can be a real cunt. Sometimes the request work, sometimes not. Thank you OPTIONS HEADER ^^
I also love the internet. Looking for ng5 solutions, get some ng2... -
Hey Everyone! Just a question about C#
Does anyone know of a good learning resource for the absolute beginner of C#? It seems like the initial learning curve is absurdly steep, at least from the online training videos I've come across so far.
I'm asking about C# mostly because I have some pretty okay powershell experience and thought it would be cool to learn how to speed up my scripts dropping down to C# or .NET for performance.
Additionally, I wanted to learn a language I could use for actual app development, even though I'm a total noobstick. 😅10 -
CREA DDF (Canada Real state listings API) is what you get when government fucks with technology.
Holy shit! So f*cking inefficient to use it, test it and get data.
I get the protection behind sensitive data but fuck me if there is not a lot of waiting behind their fucking application process just to fetch some testing data.1 -
I'm still confused on translating what I have learned as a computer science student to real work in the real world. Any suggestions or help I can get?3

I don't have any real world dev experience yet. I also dropped out of my Engineering study to start learning code on my own. But I did apply for an internship/traineeship. I just started out ( 1,5 months). I got invited for an interview and the big day is tomorrow. Super nervous. I expect no for an answer ofcourse. But what are ways too turn the tables around and possibly get this job?3

No-meds is a real privilege. Let me explain.
There are people who have to take a shit ton of medicines/pills to 'just' function normally.
Then there's people like me who don't need any of them, barely fall sick in a year and can ocassionally smoke weed just for enjoying life.
It's the only privilege I can get behind the idea of.4 -
I work solo on the Network Services Team at American Eagle as a developer. I've been working on an application for diagnosing wireless from a devices perspective.

I would really like to get into electrical engineering and microcontrollers, but I dont have any (real) experience with circuits and stuff.
Can anyone recommend some books, starter kits, good microcontrollers or youtube channels?😄3 -
When I first got started in web development I had to think really hard to write code to solve real world problems. It was rewarding and creative process. Nowadays most of my time is spent just trying to get bloated frameworks and plugins to play nice with one another! I hope the pendulum swings back at some point.

Come on, how hard can it be?
On every fucking TLV data structure I get to handle, the hobo who defined the structure obviously stopped reading the TLV specification after the second sentence.
Fucked up tags, misuse of length encoding, and as a result no real TLV parser can handle that crap. Workarounds and manual parsing all over the place for *every* *single* interface.
Get your shit together, and if you don't want to handle the complex parts, then at least make the simple types right. -
I don’t like commented code in a project, I always remove commented code whenever I see. But sometimes these removed commented codes need again to add by uncommenting.
I can get the code by seeing the git history but if only I can remember I removed that portion of code. So is there is any best approach to manage commented code, which may require in real future?3 -
So I finally got a client for my Django real estate platform.Meeting is tommorow.great thing is that the platform is built l just have to add requested features.wish me luck guys.i can probably score enough with this project to get me an lg ultrawide monitor.

I hate and despise all governments so much right now. Blunder, waste money. Politicians are rarely held accountable for the bad decisions
People say that anarchy is bad. Like, the streets would be full of thieves and bandits: you walk 10m and you get robbed because there is no police. The real question though, is: do we have any real evidence on this matter? Just something I've been wondering about lately.
Do we have a real-world example where the crime rate actually goes down because of a good decision made by the government? Do we have a historical example of an anarchy society? The way I understand it, people were just more bloodthirsty in the past: many liked the idea of going to war and killing enemies (is fact). Now the culture has changed, but the governments are stuck in the past.17 -
Let your friends play youtube music on your account during party, get them all drunk and play some random shit and suddenly all your music recommendations are fucked up, that’s how this super expensive and amazing AI works in a real world where there is more than one person.
I need to skip 10 songs now to get to one that’s decent.10 -
I am real tired of learning new stuff every day to keep up with technology I just wish someone invent some sort of pill, so when angular js, 3.0 released or vuejs or python or ruby or any new discovery , we just go buy a pill drink it and get smart, sorry if I offended you that how dum i am and that's how I feel lmao3

I just spent 6 hours trying to get JupyterHub working with Real-time collaboration.
Time. Fucking. Wasted.
Outdated or non-existent documentation. Weird conventions. Everything is just annoying.
Is it really just hard to push a complete product to production instead of an half-ass untested mess?1 -
Recently I've finally finished my first game in Unity3D <3 But I'm self-taught and it's probably not really well-made. I'd love to show code to someone with real experience but I don't have any friends in game dev -.-
Does anyone know where I could get some kind of code review (for free would be great, since I won't earn a penny from this game)?

Do apps behave and perform differently on iOs?
Ofc they do from a code perspective, but I'm taking about outcomes and real-life utility.
For example, does a Uber driver get more rides with in iPhone?
Does an iPhone user get more matches on Tinder?

Hey guys, I built a dead simple and minimal chrome extension which will give you your web page's PageSpeed Insights score in an instant. I hope this will be a real productivity booster for web dev friends.
You can get it on Chrome web store: goo.gl/vW6tRZ
Any kind of feedback is much appreciated ^_^2 -

Before I can finish the thought that "I don't need this shit" a design idea pops up in my mind and I stop myself and say "Fuck", meaning another project for my imaginary projects list. Yay... I need help. I look at certain things and get ideas. Seriously becoming a problem. -

Transhumanism is just that. You sell your soul to it, and in return, you get a superior entity, albeit entirely different.

In uni, doing a compressed second degree in CS because I am overeducated AF and why stop now? This is my first semester and I am in a whole bunch of first year classes that are prereqs to actually interesting stuff. I just want to get through this easy but assignment-heavy stuff so I can get to real coding, and then! I learn! That there is apparently a fad for GROUP EXAMINATIONS at my school and I have an actual group final exam in my statistics class next week and I might just punch someone in the throat.

Iwd. IWD. iNetWirelessDaemon. Where have you been? No lag at all. Fast. No dependencies. Lightweight. No layers of abstractions...
Since I switched to Arch on my my computer (4 years ago!), I've had to deal with NetworkManager. What a piece of shit. Don't get me started about wpa_supplicant, the piece of software that did the real lifting.
Thanks, Intel! -
trying to build a mobile app,
try to use angular + nativescript as angular is a big thing.
get throw f-ing components and modules at my face like i need 3 files to make any progress.
switched to react native, everything is honky dory
what are your views on angular and why would you use it over react ? (real question )

I have been using CakePHP 1.3 and 2.x fore some years. I built two custom platforms on them that we used for almost every project at work, and also some of my freelance ones.
We've built all kind of stuff, from basic CMS to large scale CRM/ERP systems, and it held it's own!
But now I wanna build another one! :D
I wanna build a platform on CakePHP 3.x fore sume time at work, but the constant flow of projects leaves little time for this.
And I am not talking about the shitty stuff like the sorry attempts you can find oh GitHub right now, that I never even managed to use once for a real project (I really tired!), I am talking about a real platform, for real world projects, with a real world interface, and real world functionallity, for real world use cases!
I was thinking to start an open source project, but I never managed one so I have some concerns...
Like it will not get any contributors and I will eventually do it on my own anyway, or like it WILL get traction and I will not be able to manage the project, or the community.
I am the head of the dev dept at work, but open source seems like a whole new ball game for me...
Anyway, what do you people think? Would you work on something like that? Would you use it? Should I create a GitHub project and add a collab? Or is it doomed already? -
Haven't been on here in quite awhile. Hoping I can get inspired to work on a project or something. This depression has been real, especially during this quarantine period I'm currently in.

Spent this week working React into one of my projects. Works fine but I don't see Any real productivity gains over modular typescript with a good js view engine.
Does it get better?3 -
Holy shit why does change management have to be such garbage? I've never worked anywhere with a formal change process that felt remotely like it adds value. It seems like it's even WORSE when there's a dedicated change/process team. They just get super edgy and jaded, likely because no one wants to follow their ridiculous requirements, and bitch at people whenever the real world happens and things have to happen "out of band".2

Just got an offer for a mid engineer position. The pay is actually less than what I currently make. I get that different companies have different salary expectations. But this company is actually closer to a major tech hub then where I'm at. They actually came in 5k less then what I asked for. But here's the real kicker, I'd only start with 7 days of PTO and 5 recognized holidays. This seems super low to me. So the question is, what's everyone's expectations (particularly in the US) for PTO? I get 15 right now and 8 recognized holidays. Which seems reasonable.8

to prevent being stuck, I prepare a business logic of how I should implement.
incase I get stuck I usually try to bring it in real life while looking at the sky or breeze -
Most deadlines we get are unrealistic... but not in the sense you think. I get to do a task and you can bet that the deadline they tell me at that point is not gonna be the real deadline because they will keep pushing it into the future. Happens in projects with many stakeholders...

You hate x programming language because of y idiosyncrasy.
I wanna read some real rants people!7 -
Whenever I rant about JavaScript and it's terrible way of doing things differently and totally illogical in the way real programmers would do things versus webdev-scriptkiddies...
Whenever I laugh about these engineers who can only 'code' in Matlab...
Whenever I hear people consider configuring (of stuff like WordPress or RGB-Keyboard-Lights etc.) as 'programming'...
I wonder, if I'm just like the 'Real Programmers' back in 1983 who truly considered Fortran or Assembly to be much more superior than Pascal and someone who coded in the latter or even used a simple OS like UNIX couldn't get accepted as a programmer.
Found that old article about "Real Programmers".
It's worth a read.
http://pbm.com/~lindahl/...
Just consider someone writing modern computer programs without libraries, ifs, for loops and only gotos by hand from top to bottom...
Some day I want to start some modern project everyone else would do in some random modern scripting language and hack it down in assembly just for fun and to tell people, I did it. So I could call myself a Real Programmer too.2 -
