We are required to say “leaving for the day” when we leave office. (On slack)
One developer decided to quit and just said “leaving “ and we realised the next day what he meant when he did not show up 😂😂😂7 -

So the head developer at my company quit, and I was chosen to replace him. I haven’t even graduated college yet and am already leading development at a company with over a million active users. Is this real life?14

Manager: We do not identify as a tech company so don’t expect tech company salary increases this year
Dev: Well don’t expect me to bring a tech work ethic then
Manager: !!5 -
Every company has a test environment. Some are lucky enough, to also have a production environment3

Our company took us to Amsterdam. Best company ever. They offer a 4days mystery tour every year. (which means we know the destination only when we arrive 😄) I love working for them !13
-
Company: we care about work/life balance (as long as shit gets done)
Company: we care about mental well-being (except when shit has to be done "now!")
Company: we help each other (we push work around until someone finally do it)
Company: management is here to help you do your work (as long as you don't ask them to help you to solve a real problem)
Company: we are agile (except we have more sub-processes than ever)
Company: we only hire best (and then put them in the team of morons)
Company: we are customer centric (that's why we are delivering bugged features)
Company: we constantly rise the bar (deliver more shit in shorter time)
... did I forget about something?12 -
Late night thought :
Google is a search engine company having with an operating system(Android) as a side product.
Microsoft is an operating system company having a search engine (bing) as a side product.6 -
My current company is moving to a no code platform.
Also me planning to moving into another company :)10 -
Someone registered a company in the UK to reap havoc on government and directory sites.
(And some people say registering a company in the UK is too easy!)5 -
Company organised a meeting with everyone for me to explain (again) why I'm leaving.
Basically participated to a meeting to say that I'm out of their company6 -
HR: Here at company A we have a great culture. It truly is the best place ever to work!
Dev: How many companies have you worked for?
HR: Besides babysitting as a teenager this is the only company I’ve ever worked for.
Dev: I thought so.3 -
I was working for a company as a Mobile Developer and I had a recruiter calling me up, asking me if I'd be interested in working for the company I was already as a "UX Designer". I thought it'd be funny to say yes. It wasn't - I was let go because my company thought I was looking elsewhere.7

Company grows a 30% and internet starts getting slow.

Fuck recruiters! I told them i want to work in a bigger company and my JS are not the best.
I just drove a freaking hour to a company who wants a diehard JS'er and exists of 4! People.
Assholes!7 -
I just got hired as a systems administrator at a company that develops web forms. NO ONE in the company has heard of git. They don't use any kind of version control.
I'm a little worried...6 -
Company: your hired, lead our X dev team.
Me: yay.
-- three months later --
Company: we arent supporting X anymore.
Company: gonna offload all X clients in 90 days.
Me: oh.
Company: but you should stay around, learn new tech
Me: is this a charity case?
Company: yes, but we both win.
Me: how?
Company: you can keep your salary.
Me: deal.1 -
Recruiters are fucking unbelievable sometimes.
With about one year experience I applied to company A and company B. Kinda competitors in what dev skillset they're looking for.
Company A reviewed my CV and decided I don't have enough experience without giving me a chance to present my actual knowledge.
Company B tells me screw your CV come along show us what you got. I rocked the interview with an offer the next day which I accepted, absolutely thrilled.
Fast forward 7 months I get an email from company A, same recruiter, inviting me to an interview as they're "impressed with my profile and feel like I've gone a long way" (definitely just because company B hired me and I passed my probation)
Ah the joy responding to them that as I value honour and honesty quite highly I don't think I would be a culture match for company B where it is a norm to reject candidates and come back pouch them after they pass probation at competitors.
Eek.. instant apologies email and of course explaining it's not poaching but "exploring opportunities".
Screw company A, honestly.5 -
Recruiter call me for a position in his company and after speaking for a while he asked me to refer him in my company 🤣1

So a friend called me over to his newly opened company. He just started, along with two other partners, so 3 of them on the management structure. It started as a service-oriented company, not single-product based company. Strategically, over the course of 4 years, these two other bosses kicked my friend out. I followed. All the people in the company eventually followed. Now we are about to start selling our services to them for around double the fee. #justice

Got a new job this week with a huge raise at an awesome new company! It's wonderful being paid what you're worth! Now if the current company can just fire me so I can have a two week vacation, that'd be great.8

School forced me and two classmates to do a project for a company...
Apparently, the company got paid 20K for developing the app, and we're sitting here without even a thank you...
Worst part is:
Our final grade depends on this...21 -
"I think you will be on this company for many years."
Depending on the company, this can be a compliment or a threat.4 -
Company: Hey finish off that degree and we will hire you as a "real developer".
Me: Hey I finished my degree and I applied for that internally posted developer position. How about making me a "real developer" now.
Company: ...
Company: ...
Finally replied today with generic email template thanking me for my interest and applauding me for my skills but sadly informing me I don't meet the requirements for the position.
W.T.F 😡
I think I might be done with this company.11 -
At a previous company, a new IT director decided we should outsource the development of a webapi to another company, but this outside company would not be allowed access to the database, so we had to develop a webapi to provide data to the outside company's system, so we could call their webapi and get the same data back.6
-
omg apple does not like to make things easy! Trying to set up developer accounts for a company but a company can't be an agent? a team member who isn't an agent can't create certificates or keys?
Android development seems so easy and nice now6 -
Me: reports vulnerability that can be used to steal thousands of dollars from a company.
Stingy company: gives me 66 USD voucher as a reward. :)11 -
this happened in the first project of a small software company.
the contract said: project will be finished only until customer satisfaction
the customer was never satisfied. So, the company had to close and open with a different brand name1 -
Company: lets develop a cutting edge, SaaS software solution that would make our current software obsolete.
Also Company: needs to be fully compatible with IE 11. Oh and also use it as a base for testing performance and UI rendering.
Fffffffffffffff.7 -
Worst part of job hunting is calling a company and saying "uhhh yeah i really like your company but this other place pays twice this much"17

When you move from one "agile" company to a truly agile company. Wow. Productivity has gone through the roof!2

Started part time job at a company, had to log my time on timesheets. Said fuck this and now the whole company logs their hours on a custom web based time logging system which I built.5

Story of my life when I am really interested in a company:
Company: let's have a call to get to know each other.
Me: okay.
Company during the call: takes a technical interview
Company *a few days later*: now let's have a technical call!
Me: okay
Company during call: asks to design GOOGLE in GOOGLE DOC (??!!?!)
Company *a few days later*: now let's have a Development Test!
Me: okay
Company *sends an email* asking to complete a task which should take a week to develop in a few hours
Me: okay...
Company *a few weeks later*: Sends a generic email saying they got another person who is a better fit.
Me: ffs..16 -
at a previous job at a shit company ran by bible-thumpers, i was rebuilding the company website for my a-hole boss. I asked him where I should get images from- if there was a stock photo site he preferred or what.
"Just pull them off Google. That's what I do."
Later when I was combing through the site, I saw he'd added images that CLEARLY STATE another COMPANY'S NAME in the image themselves. Nothing like promoting another company on your OWN company website, huh?
(And no, their company name is not ActiveMobi.)
They're still there, 3+ years later. Dumb ass.2 -
Just helped a dev at my old company by relaying the issue to a dev at another company (who had the required knowledge).
I feel like Stack Overflow.1 -
!rant
Just started working for a new company. Super cool. Just like the last one (as far as perks), except they actually trust their devs.
Old company: Make sure your code is extensible
Devs at old company: You know it's not written in stone right?
Old company: Does that mean you can make it do this?
Devs at old company: No. That's the wrong code base
New company: I need a feature. Get it done when you can
New company devs: Well, guess I'll take some time to refactor all this stuff while I'm at it
~Some time later~
New company: Thanks, that feature works great!
No staring over shoulders, asking when it will be done. No asking why we want to refactor something. As long as work continues to flow, there are no issues. It's great!
Also, if we want to try a new tech, we just have to put together a short paper explaining why it will work better in that situation than the tech that's already in place. -
This hasn’t been posted yet?
The Boring Company Flamethrower is renamed to The Boring Company not a Flamethrower because of shipping problems :D3 -
I thought to myself, "i nee some company in my life"
1.Registers on a app to meet some people
2. Fills in profile
3. Falls asleep from bordom.

Notification from app: "we see you are in the engineering field, want to have a look at the opportunities we have at our company?"

When a recruiter says "a fast-growing, family driven company", he's basically calling it a startup?5

Left my post as a software engineer in a Software Development company.
I’m now a Lead engineer in a consultancy.2 -
My company makes us take "courses" such as 'Maintaining a positive attitude towards your company' and 'the downer'(my personal super low budget skit)

Am I the only one who works at a company where the developers are the only ones who understand the product that the company is selling?4

Company: Hi mordax, your profile shows you have an impressive background -
Me: Oh!
Company: So I'd like to extend an invitation-
Me: Oh!!! (Interview!!)
Company: - to a Women in Tech(™) event hosted by the company.
Me: Oh.1 -
I'm absolutely terrified by my company... yes, these are fridge magnets. They're all over the place. It's not a tech company, but still... o.o"4

Today is my last day at my current employer(a big german insurance company, boring af) and next monday I start at a medium sized company in an R&D position 😁3

So being a fan of Silicon Valley i found out there's a real startup company with a Voice-controlled tablet device called "Nucleus".
Irony is they are suing the same company which invested in it and then copied it's product....(Amazon)3 -
Everybody is criticizing Microsoft for leaving too much legacy code in Windows, etc., but let me tell you that I prefer 100% that and have lifetime backward compatibility than having to deal with Google bullshit.
Google sucks ass.
It's one of the most dev unfriendly company on this planet (along with Facebook).
You can't fucking change BASIC stuff in Android SDK every fucking version.
You just can't!
You can't use a system of "PERMISSIONS" each developer has to set in its application and each user has to accept during the installation, that a few versions later become USELESS... because "Hmmm… no, It's not enough, let's make a new privileged permission that makes the old one fucking worthless".
YOU FUCKING, TOXIC, BASTARDS.
It's my app, my code, my device, my fucking conditions. If I want to install viruses on my device, I should be able to do it.
I shouldn't have to call fucking Sundar fucking Pichai fucking CEO of fucking GOOGLE.
USERS != BABIES.
DEVS != CRIMINALS
We are the reason you have a fucking job, fucking food on your fucking table.
I want a fucking GOD_MODE permission in the next SDK, assholes!
You can't REMOVE fucking "Android.OS.getSerial()" making it only for system apps.
It's not sensible data… and if It's in your opinion, you've already created a "android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE", so what else do you want, fucking asshole?
Right, you want to introduce "android.permission.READ_PRIVILIGED_PHONE_STATE" to make obsolete the other one, son of a bitch!
I don't fucking use you're garbage Google Play Store, no worries! I won't upload my app on your servers, bitch!
They've created a monopoly in the industrial space (PDAs) and they keep making fucking wrong decisions every single year.
My job is already stressful, why you can't just stop making it worse? fml8 -
It pains most when a colleague left the company for good since OJT. Worst is leaving the company without a pay, no refund for not remitted governmentt benefits. I thought this only applies to fucking government or politicians, but also to the company you worked and shared most of your goddamn life not wondering why most good employees left the company.

Client to Company :This is a complex 1 month approx task. We need this feature
Company forgets to tell employee developer about this.
Meanwhile Client to Company after one month.
Client to Company: We are just 1 week away from the deadline, what's the status of the work in progress.
Company to client : It's going well, we will get back to you on the day of demo.
Company to employee developer: We have this complex task, you need to complete it in 1 week.
Developer mental status gets fucked with over burdened hectic work which has to be completed in a week having no idea of fuck up by the company which already had the information of the task one month ago but just forgot to tell the developer.2 -
True story:
A guy worked at a company as a very important programmer.
No matter the assignment, he would get it done.
It turns out he played Internet games all day and had outsourced his work to a Chinese company for 10% of his pay.
And he had signed up at a second company and did the same thing there.
He was fired, but made a lot of money.4 -
>be me
>go to a job interview
>company said to wait 1.5 weeks
>wait 2 weeks, after that ,I message them
>the company writes back, tells me they haven't decided on a candidate yet
>two days later the company writes me a letter asking me if I'm interested in a fulltime position, and if yes they will send me more info
>I reply yes
>they don't respond in 3 days
>successfully troll a candidate9 -
Find out the company hiring and apply directly to the company. Don't go through a 3rd party agency if you can avoid it. It gives the company a massive saving and a great incentive to hire you.1
-
Why would a company (A) create another company (B) within itself?
Both companies are literally in the same building.
Company A is manufacturing plastic products and company B is all about company B's IT (sys admin, dev, etc.).9 -
I'm in a company with no senior devs I can look to for mentoring. How do you go about scaling with the company without a developer more senior to guide you during development?
I feel like I'm always second guessing decisions.14 -
My company: We have a retention problem. Surveys say they want to be paid more and promoted more.
Also my company: we're going to hire someone with strictly less experience and time in the company than you in at a higher rank and pay grade. -
My company is 8 days late to pay my salary.
The government (uae) recommended a 4.5 work week and my company hinted they wont abide by it
My company promised us bonuses and shares a year ago that we still didnt get
Altho we have been working remotely for 2 years due to covid, they are also trying to enforce going to the office...
Everything about the company is way too toxic
I want to leave ...
but all my applications get ghosted so i feel like a slave, its like i need this company otherwise im jobless. I haye this6 -
Good news: my company has received more calls today since I can ever remember
Bad news: It's because a telemarketing company spoofed our phone number, so it's not drumming up any business. -
It really sucks when you join a company, you are really excited and then you see that the management and the work culture in the company sucks and you cant wait to leave...such a waste of time and energy :'(11
-
Hearing that a company plans to digitalize the entire business model and move away from bureaucracy 💪
Hearing that said company plans to run the entire infrastructure on an iMac in the office 😨4 -
It sucks when a better company offers you a better role once you are signed a contract in lower company.10

I used to work at a startup company that was so mismanaged that they lost track of when the Visual Studio licenses expire.
So during a critical week, the Visual Studio instances stopped working, and they have to scramble getting new licenses, which took a while.
In the end, the client lost confidence, pulled the plug on the project. I also lost confidence in the company and bailed out. Less than a year later the company went totally bankrupt.2 -
Do you guys think it's fine to leave a company even if you're a team leader and currently working on an important project for them?
Because I feel sad, underpaid, and abuse on this company.7 -
"I'm a recruiter for this company that does mostly finances. It's a very stable company. It's over a hundred years old."
That sounds nice, but I can't help but wonder the abyss of legacy codebases a company that old can have. Specially since it's not a dev agency.8 -
Something I wrote in my "how not to run a company" notebook:
Getting told you've now replaced the CTO as the person people ask for support (literally, he was recieving no questions), but you're not experienced enough to be promoted to senior.
I replied by telling them I was interviewing elsewhere.
Made me laugh. Is it really that hard for management to get that they should invest in talent?6 -
A friend of mine and I are about to open a company and we're hiring a developer to develop websites, no specific needs, it literally just have to work.
We found this guy, who develops goodlooking websites, but isn't really a developer, meaning that he just uses visual composers. (which doesn't differ too much from what we want).
Well this guy kinda loves us because we're actual developers who know how to code "properly".
It's the first time someone likes me just bc I'm a developer and I'm already superhappy!
Hope it will get good soon enough! -
Company A: Oh yes we work with this huge tech company all the time and our APIs are just amazingly well made! DONT WORRY!
Company B: Yeah we've worked together once or twice and nothing seemed to go wrong the last time. DONT WORRY!
Reality: 11 API warnings, no data transfer and a SQL error meaning nothing I've been working on actually worked. #Rantover2 -
I'm facing a conundrum. I saw a job posting for <Company A> weeks ago, but wasn't really interested and moved on.
Got in touch with a standalone recruitment company today who had an exciting job offer. The recruiter refused to tell me the name of the company until he spoke to me as they directed him to not disclose the name of the company or any details until he has verified the candidate is genuine. To my absolute shock and disbelief it was <Company A>!!!!
So heres the conundrum. External recruiters don't lie, why would they? Clearly this company MUST keep their hiring top secret, and some poor employee didn't get the memo before posting that job publicly. Should I report the <Company A> employee?
I don't want to report them and get them in trouble, but feel I must in order to help the company fix this leak ... before its too late ... and people find out the are hiring!
Thoughts?5 -
Are you using your own laptop at work? Or your company provides you with a company laptop? I use my own at work because I don't like to develop using company windows desktop.13

Company Emails that tell you
who they are
what believe in.
How they were the market leaders since the stone age.
what their values are
what their holistic approach to life is. How they are diversifying inclusiveness to include diversity.
And how all of this bull shit ties into you being a ideal employee of the organisation
Just to get you to fill a damn form.
Makes me wish the next attempt at human extinction succeeds.4 -
Holy shit! Since when was mongodb a publicly trading company... and 272 a share wtfffff
seems like i gotta start a non ACID database company sometime soon!2 -
Company had problematic client projects that each client has a bucket load of change requests. Company doesn't know how to say "No" to them. Company can't afford to pay the subvendors for the changes and the subvendors aren't willing to do them for free.
I went in, reverse engineer the shit out of each application, database, system, documented my own findings, changed according to each client request. This involves editing tables in MSSQL, rerouting PHP files, adding field and validations in C#, passing parameters in VB to Crystal Report, and managed every change request into my own personalize ticket system (that the company does not have).
Saved the company, everyone was grateful. A couple of months later, the company hasn't paid my salary on time, I left like a boss.
They're in shit again and need my help. Haha! -
Its better to be at a good position in a shit company, than be at a shit position in a good company...1

Has anybody ever worked with a shady company where you don't even know the company structure? Like CEO and administration?6
-
I've been interviewing at a local company. They want that I (as the new FE dev) do monthly presentations to the whole company (50-ish) about the progress of our product.
This is the first time I heard this. I assume this is a red flag :(
Otherwise, the company looked good (except a company phone that would have been an iPhone)11 -
When a shady recruiter who had tried to poach me from my company, when also contracted as a recruiter for said company.

Handed my notice in at my current job last week. Today a project update goes round to the company that I'm leaving with everything we're working on.
We have a new client. It's the company I'm moving to.
IS THERE NO ESCAPE?! -
Monday is already going. I got the news a coworker is fired for selling company data.
What a shitshow this company is and how does it still exists1 -
Developers are handled like trash..
Why don't developers get house and pay like a MBA guy or executive (considering whole company is based on developers, its a web development company)4 -
GitLab, why do you don't want to have my money? I just wanted to pay for GitLab Bronze to enable Pull Mirroring. The problem is that I cannot register for billing without having a company. GitLab, I am a single private person. I am not a company! Why do I have to fill out these form fields? So if you don't want to have my money, then you will not get it.4
-
HELL YEAH! First day into the vacation and after checking the mails, I see that I have a new job offer from a company I have applied for. It is not the company with the highest priority on my list, but it is still cool to have them inviting me for a talk that fast.
Btw. I have a question to the experienced job switchers among us (I do not mean job switchers in a bad way).
What do you guys set your priorities on when it comes to joining a company? Do you have any tips for people who want to join a company in a general view? What NO-GOs can you give to us? Thanks.2 -
At my old company one of our directors referred to a QR code as "heiroglyphics"... That struck me as pretty incompetent for the director of a tech company
-
Company i applied for told me how they are planning to release a new project on friday.
... Decided for a different company -
When you go to apply to a web design company and they have this exact bootstrap layout http://adventurega.me/bootstrap/
A company that designs websites can't make itself one?!?2 -
Got an offer from another company for a 45% increase after tax, talked with my company and they matched the offer. I shook hands and thought thats that. Talked with the original company and they came back with a 65% increase after tax.. not sure on what to do. Don’t want to seem like an asshole and burn bridges with my current company by leaving, and I’m afraid of the new company and the possible learning curve and inadequacy. Help :(13
-
You don't! Working for a bad company would ultimately give you the experience you need that a good company wouldn't2
-
Does anyone actually watch the company policy and sexual harassment videos that are shown when you join a company?
I just play them on mute in background lol6 -
Job hunting is so fucking stressful...
Everyone wants something different and the one company I actually might fit in does not have a position right now - great!
Oh and...why....the fuck... Does a company with a 10k downloads app need an aptitude test? :)3 -
Which is better? Working in a company with someone who can mentor you or working in a company that gives you time to study on your own?8
-
I have my first real deadline at a company. Yesterday. I hate deadlines :( At university I only affect me when missing deadlines. At a company, the whole teams gets affected.4

I feel like I need to change company... it's Monday, I'm 1 hour late to work and already wanting to go back home.
Any Portuguese company looking for a iOS dev? 😅😅2 -
received two job opportunities today.
Company A - a startup company that aims to provide SAAS.
Company B - MNC, current product is stable and making money. They plan to move to SAAS later on (but not yet confirm)
Which should I join? Please advise~~10 -
Found a job posting that says the company was founded as a "Christian" company. They say that it means that they have high ethical standards, but . . . yeah.
Wondering if I should apply since it's a remote gig.6 -
Here's another company hiccup: Get an email from a big online payment company that my account has been suspended due to dubious credit card activity.
Plot twist: I haven't got a credit card! -
What's the smallest size start-up company you would work for? The American dream, of course, is to own your own company. If that option were off the table, would you work as a developer for a startup company that only had 3 other employees, including the CEO?4
-
To work in a music/rhythm games company (preferably indie), or one that produces stuff related to music.
I would like to lead a company like that! 😍
One can dream... -
me and my friend got a project from a startup company, its a money remittance company,. boy i feel very anxious, specially because it has something do to with money.1
-
The old company I was working at, was absolutely treating their new employees as shit. Everything was handled by the old timers who "knew how the world worked" (to those, TDD was useless, because as proven by this company only, it was a waste of time).
Everything that the new employees or "young talent" came up with, had to be talked through in a senior group, without the young talent. Never got anywhere, their software was absolute garbage (yet worked by sheer magic!!!!)
Today I learned that a former coworked had hos LinkedIn account say "[company]: waste of time."
And before you say "No company you work for, is a waste of time, as a software dev." i say, working for this company made you a worse developer. By. The. Fucking. Day.1 -
I had a project that took most of 2018 that involved a hell lot of people costing millions to the company in dev hours.
Just informed that the feature was turned off because the company was losing money with it...2 -
A sub company of the company I work for is about to be shut down. It makes me sad because I developed everything on the platform. All my work just gone.. at least I learned a lot about what NOT to do though
-
As a following to my previous rant
https://devrant.com/rants/3180332/...
I ended up staying because because the outsourced company(where I’m hired) got called out by the company we’re providing devices for letting me leave and underpaying me
As it it was not enough they also threatened them to stop outsourcing with their company.
At the end I got a 2x salary rise, way better benefits and the promise(still to see) of getting hired directly on the company I’m working in.
So yeah, don’t underestimate your value.3 -
Nothing says "Productively Killer" quite like a company-wide "alert" through the building fire and emergency intercom, announcing the latest winners in an anonymous company contest.2

I was just thinking; Since now I am closer to graduating and I'll be joining the corporate industry. Which company is most preferable as a junior developer; What I mean is, would it be better to start working for a start-up company or go for a well known and established company?
because what I am thinking, with the start-up company there is more room for growth (position and experience), unlike the well-established company where you are given mediocre work (I think that's what they do anyway) since you are still new and coming straight out of university. I'd appreciate some advice and maybe some other people can benefit as well.1 -
Not a rant!
But I want to know how much do programmer make? (Money wise) and would it be better to be a freelancer or to work for a company? What are some pros and cons for working in a company and for being a freelancer.5 -
mass exodus from a company but apparently nobody has the balls (or foolishness) to tell them the pay is dogshit
escapees may be operating under the model that it doesn't benefit them to tell the truth to the company
absolutely hilarious and baffling that the company feigns ignorance on this or is genuinely incompetent3 -

From Documentation:
"A SHA256 HMAC is created outside of Bronto. If you need help with this step, contact one of the developers at your company."
Yes because, cause every company has a developer.

Before applying to a company how can I tell the company is healthy and won’t tank or lay people off any time soon? Is there like a public metric somewhere I can see to determine this?3

When someone says that a company is Java/Python/Ruby "shop", they are implying that company sells those programming languages instead of its products. Would you call macys/nordstorm a cottonshop? See how ridiculous that sounds!2

Last year my boss decided to outsource a project I did the year before to another company.
Now he wants my opinion on why this company estimates 10h to do an upgrade on a API interface I did on that project.
Like I remember details on what I did two years ago. And like I have any idea how this company is rigged to handle the project. -
I'm starting my internship in a really company next monday. I'm pretty hyped as there's possibilities that I get recruited after my internship ends if the company likes how I work. Any tips?6

Company A (mine) is building a site for company B, company B employs company C to manage their inventory database, company C exports inventory as JSON to company A, company C says, this field (SKUs) will be an object (skus = {...}) when it only has 1 value, but an array (skus = [{}, {}, ...]) when there are multiple SKUs, company A (me) tells company B to tell company C to ensure it's always an array.... company B is scared of company C and company A (me) is always cleaning up company C's shit6

🤔 Google is transforming from a free service company to a paid service company with gsuite, youtube tv, google drive premium , YouTube patreon approach, g cloud, selling hardware ... and more

A week ago me and my classroom visited Pentalog and they Presented us in major terms how they're teams work and what is mostly going on in an IT consulting company. It was pretty cool. I loved every job or position they presented except Scrum Master and the person who manages the database.
I saw most of them how nice they were how they got along, it makes it hard for me to understand how many ranters are crying about relationships with other collegues. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1 -

Working in a small comoany vs big company?
I always found myself in small companies (they are often more flexible with hours and work patterns) - those who worked in both kinds, have you got any preference and the main difference points?10 -

Question...
Bout a month back went for an interview, went well, assessment and all that, but the company was busy moving so feedback was slow.
Last week got contacted by a client of a former company who is now also looking for a dev.
Company 1 just came back wanting to discuss offer, and company 2 will probably get back to me tomorrow.
Question is, there like any reason to disclose the info to them. The second guy I know, he was client for about a year.1 -
How do I push a hiring offer to later and say no?
Context:
I work at company A and the manager, let's call her Jane, who hired me at company A, left shortly after to join company B at a senior executive level (very high up the ladder in a public company).
After few months, I decide to quit company A and started my job hunt. I received a job offer from company C.
Now, my relationship with Jane was super awesome. Jane was very supportive and thought very highly of me. She offered to write a LoR (letter of recommendation ) for me whenever I needed it.
Now, out of courtesy and maintaining the relationship, I mentioned to Jane that I quit company A and will be joining company C.
To which she immediately mentioned that she could hire me and setup my connect with one of the hiring managers in her team. We had our initial conversation and they skipped second stage (since I got a very high reference) and moved to final stage of the interview.
Now, I am not really keen on joining this company B as it will also require me to move outside of the country to a different timezone.
At the same time I don't want to sabotage my relationship with Jane and make sure I keep my options/doors open for some collaboration in future.
How do I go about telling Jane (and the team) that for now, I am focusing on joining company C and would like to explore the opportunity with her company/team in future, without damaging my professional image?11 -
Some at my company is working from home. My company is in the event business so we are building a feature now to encourage people to have events online.

I've never gotten a promotion and i have no intention of getting one any time soon (As that would require me to either switch to a company with annoying hierarchies or take a C-level position at the current company (yuck).

Got an interview call from a company which I didn't join at the last minute. This last minute change happened 3 years back.
Now I'm thinking I'll give them another shot even though I'm happy with my current company.
I didn't join them earlier because the new company had a lot of scope for learning and growth.
Now, let's see what they have in store -
how does it feel to reject a company when :
- its in your own hometown and offering remote work (whereas your current company is in a different ,v expensive city and is asking for relocation)
- its offerring a 60% hike on your current salary (whereas your current company is asking to relocate therefore a 40-50% cut in savings)
- is a major mnc with blasting profits and known for never making layoffs (whereas your current company is not even a unicorn)
i just wanted a 70% hije instead of 60 coz i have heard of work stagnation, government job like culture and poor appraisals in this org. however my current company, even though not being a unicorn has shown to offer great salaries ( to sr employees though) so kinda hopeful there too.
but yeah, feeling like a shit who missed opportunity to get bought in gold8 -
I've been dismissed by my company (mostly by one person in that company). Now I got a new job offer but the manager in question is one of my referrals. How much am I screwed?7

I have to choose to accept an internship offer for dev role between company A and company B (potential PPO at both).
Company A: Unicorn startup ~3000 employees. A disruptor.
Company B: Early stage startup ~30 employees but has funding and all. Also, sounds promising. Loved their interview process.
Both are interesting to me and pay almost equally. Any inputs ranters?8 -

Any Dutch company owners here that have an IBC set up? Or any Italian company owners here? I need some help and advice in setting up a company structure. Although not strictly dev-related I'll of course develop some software for that new company :)

Leaving a job for a potentially better opportunity after 6 months: OK or no? someone I trust is referring me to their company for a same-level role. they offer 401K match and my current company doesn't. New company does vacation and sick leave and my company is "unlimited" style. have not had an interview yet but I have a good shot given the reference.4

What is better? Stable but boring company(currently working here) or risky but intressting job(small company can fail or grow).
If the company grows the pay can get a lot higher then the current job offers.
I'm struggling with this question for couple of days please help fellow devs.4 -
How many times have u told a company that you will not be moving forward with the interview process bc you accepted an offer... only to have them send you a rejection letter 45 mins later??? 😂😂😂 Happened to me yesterday.
Told 3 companies that.
I didn't really expect them to respond, just wanted to let them know.
First company: No response.
Second company: Wished me well and thanked me for the update.
Third company: Sent me a rejection letter.
I'm like, "You guys just couldn't resist, huh?" 😂5 -
Take the time to do a little research into the company, then tailor your CV to the company and the position. Don't be afraid to add a little pizzazz, but also don't lie... There's a difference between something that's a little misleading and an outright false claim.

Question:
Were you hired by a company and develop software FOR that company?
Or...
Were you hired by one company and build software for a client or attend work at a client's office?4 -
If Company A owns company B & C. And profits from Company B were used in the incorporation and development of Company C.
Can company C list company B as a sponsor and partner along with the other sponsors? Or will that be automatically established if they're under the same parent company?
company B and C are listed and registered as independent companies and provide different services but both provide internet services.1 -
I’m in the process of doing interviews and company A seems to like me - however company B just booked an interview for me. If company A calls me back for a job offer, what’s a reasonable time frame to give them my final answer?
Just in case, I want to keep my options open for company B depending on their offer.1 -
Im dev in a huge company.

It sucks when your company makes the company announcements Slack channel into a spam group for people to post about their daily quarantine life.
It sucks more when you can't leave the channel because it's "mandatory" to be a member of it.

Hey, I have a quick question for developers in Barcelona. For out study association, we're trying to organize a week long trip, in which we want to visit some companies. But we're having a bit of a hard time finding interesting companies, so if you are (or know) someone at a tech-company in Barcelona, I'd love to get in touch.1

Which should I choose:
Company A: much better pay and benefits, team seems nice, Glassdoor citing quite bad reviews about CEO and upper management.
Company B: current company. uninteresting field, team in distance, tech lead likes micro management and quite annoying in general. In middle of a project.5 -
If i have 2 different job offers from 2 companies and 1 offers a higher salary, should i tell the other company if they could raise the salary because i already have a more competing offer at another company?

1 - Correct me if I’m wrong, but in true Agile, a product owner ought to be able to interact directly with the dev team, and vice versa, in the card/conversation/confirmation process of creating, estimating, and executing the user stories, correct?
2 - If Company “A” contracts with Consultant “A” to have software developed, and then Consultant “A” then contracts with Company “B” who then contracts with Consultant “B” to do the development, who would you define as the Product Owner?
3 - If Company “B” is barring Consultant “B” from talking with Company “A” and Consultant “B”, is Agile even possible?7 -
