The amount of common sense questions which would require an individual to use their brain and/or a search engine for approximately a few seconds in order to gain the knowledge needed to answer it themselves was TOO FUCKING GOD DAMN HIGH TODAY.
IT CAN REALLY FUCKING PISS ME OFF SOMETIMES.17 -
The level of fucking backflips I have to do to get these morons to learn git and not share code via fucking emails, Jesus Christ, you'd think I asked them to switch religions. Why the fuck does this profession not require a fucking license in this godforsaken country.14

Fun/Interesting fact:
"++i" can be slightly faster than "i++"
Because "i++" can require a local copy of the value of "i" before it gets incremented, while "++i" never does. In some cases, some compilers will optimize it away if possible... but it's not always possible, and not all compilers do this.15 -
This is actually an advice given to me:

It bothers me that IntelliJ IDEs and Documents on Google Drive don't require Ctrl + S to be pressed to save a file.
That's like my birthright taken away from me!8 -
I finally put the "blurred background system" on GitHub.
I simply called it BackBlur.js and I made it to don't require jQuery or any other libraries.
It's now on my new GitHub account: https://github.com/Norech/...
If you don't know what I'm talking about: https://devrant.io/rants/888497
If you want to help me to add more supported platforms, feel free. 😀15 -
Gotta keep that code DRY...
"It should be noted that no ethically-trained software engineer would ever consent to write a DestroyBaghdad procedure. When i decided to become a developer years ago, i had completely different idea of how it'll be..
I never heard of "bugs" and I thought it won't require human interactions... Boy was I wrong 😕3 -

When working in embedded, you basically write your program, compile it and flash it on some hardware.
Compiling and flashing usually require some black magic commands with lots of parameters so i set up two shortcuts in my terminal
yolo to compile
swag to flash
Understandably i keep it to myself1 -

Me to designer: "I did the research and this just isn't possible to implement, I'm sorry"

Why the fuck do employers post remote position jobs, only to let you know in the first call that they require the employee to live in/near a certain city. That's not a remote position and it happened several times in my job hunt8

Client: "My proposed deadline can't be met? Maybe we should go to your office and sit right next to you to see how you work."

It's surprising the times I actually become lazy to code:
It's not when I need to probe the problem to figure out possible solutions, but rather when I know exactly what the solution is, but will require tons of code.5 -

Impossible deadlines are ubiquitous in our company. Our CTO has the opinion that development is a lightning-fast process that doesn’t require testing and deployment because every developer is a God.
It is normal to hear something like ”just develop it tomorrow morning, it is easy” from him, but in reality, it is never that easy. -
boss gives me a new task that requires to rewrite quite a lot of the code to accomplish.

trying to do anything on the PS2 is almost fucking impossible
i imagine a board meeting where they were designing the hardware
"how can we make this insanely hard to use?"
"let's make decentralized partition definitions, allow fragmenting of entire partitions, and require all partitions to be rounded to 4MB. If you delete a partition, don't wipe the partition out, just rename it to "_empty" and the system will do it for you, except it actually won't because fuck you"
"let's require 1-bit serial registers to be used for memory card access and make sure you can't take more than 8 CPU cycles to push each bit or it'll trash the memory card"
"let's make the network module run on a 3-bit serial register and when initialized it halves the available memory but only after 8 seconds of activity"
"let's require the system to load feature modules called "IOPs" and require the software to declare which of the 256 possible slots it wants to use (max of 8 IOPs) then insert stubs into those. Any other IOP you call will hang the system and probably corrupt the HDD. You also have to overwrite the stubbed IOPs with your own but only if you can have the stubs chainload the other IOPs on top of themselves"
"let's require you to write to the controller registers to update them, but you have to write the other controller's last-polled state or the controller IOP will hang"
of course this couldn't make sense, it's

I just watched a talk given by Ryan Dahl, highlighting what he considers to be some early design mistakes with Node:
- Removed early version of Promises
- Not sandboxed by default
- GYP compiler
- package.json
- node_modules
- require() without extension
- index.js by default

Also, his new project Deno sounds like Node 2.0. Interesting!4 -
@dFox really loving devRant, but I feel like the site should require text with picture posts or something. Noticed a trend where people are just using this as a meme aggregator instead of rant site.

Why is it that the internet is full of fucking "getting started" and "crashcourse" and "essentails" bullshit, but when you're looking for some truly deep stuff like all the ins & outs of MacOS native app devevlopment using SwiftUI, there's NOTHING!

Mgr: composer require. That's all you're allowed to do. I want you to manually go through our word press site, check which ones need an update. And do a composer require in the command line for each to update them.
Me: wouldn't it make more sense to just increment the version in the composer.json and then run update?
Mgr: no, you don't understand how composer works, it's very complicated. Just do require. Don't ever do update.
Me: *does it anyway (reverting later of course) and compares update vs require and their differences in the lock file*
I mean it looks like 'update' is updating important dependencies for each of the packages as well as the package itself... The 'require' just seems to download the package itself but no updates to dependencies for those packages.
But seriously is composer that complicated that I can't just do an 'update'?
I've been reading the composer documentation and it seems to be saying that update is the better way to go...
I'm doubting myself these days...12 -

I might be new to webdev , but wtf is wrong with imports in js ?
html seems to get the only decent way of dealing with js: all the files mentioned in subsequent <script> tags can access the functions of previous file
but when it comes to those generated html content(aka react projects) and servers, nobody seems to come to an agreement : react guys uses import while server people uses require. and both of these can't be used in the same file : import works in mjs files (or usual files too if type is defined as module) while require works in cjs file (or usual js files if type is NOT defined as module)
so i kind of like imports for its elegance and resembelence to java imports. and i might have got into some errors in unrelated areas , so my package.json has type=module . i want to use some cjs package (jsonwebtoken) and that shit for the love of god won't work with import, so i gotta use it with cjs file and then the whole project can't use that crappy cjs file.
WTAF ? has web world not got matured enough to not have this shitty import export situation?should i write caveman code and convert everything to require(..) ?

Just an advice:
Keep in mind that you can now have ES modules in nodejs with the esm package. And it's a zero config install.
For those that don't know, in js ES modules is the import/export syntax and is a huge upgrade from cjs (the require syntax) because you find out "pre runtime" when a specific import is non existent.1 -
Some facepalm things I've discovered recently:
- Node's require("http") doesn't work for https - you have to require("https") specifically.
- Mongofiles (command line utility for Mongo, imports files as GridFS) cannot input more than one file at a time. Regex doesn't work. [Ended up making a puny Powershell script to do it].
- Airtable doesn't let you download your attachments, even if you export a csv - it's just a url to the image on their cloud.
It's been an exhausting day.1 -

How to create an application using kivy.
- Install Kivy
- Open PyCharm and create your first application
- Follow the documentation

- Don't find any solution
This is what I have done in the last 3 hours
Thanks Kivy3 -
Lesson 1 of developing a project with managers: never make it known that solutions to some bugs are simple. Managers will assume that all bugs are simple and require little thought and effort. Then, when there is a bug for which you have no idea what the solution is just by looking at the issue, they will become upset.2

I feel so dirty rn. Been struggling with webpack all day to just generate some pages based on the object a js script exports. The issue was that I needed a path to an image and the path webpack's require returned was a relative path (it started with a .), which wouldn't work because my generated page wasn't in the root folder. I tried making it work "the right way" all day, nothing worked. So in the end I just removed the . from the fucking path using substr and that's that.
Also, why the fuck does webpack's require return a fucking relative path anyway?1 -

My question is very easy and it is possible that this is a stupid question but I need your help. I have tried to develop a component with a function where I implemented a require function.
