Android studio gradle takes so much time to build. I decided to draw something to kill time whenever it build.
Day 3: Starlord is nearly complete.10 -
I spent a day teaching my 3 year old nephew to count from 0 and he argued with his teachers the following day that he has 9 fingers. His parents have been called to school 😂18

Yes son! (Well obviously, technically it was my wife) I assume she must have seen me on the app :)6 -
It doesn't matter what I'm programming in, every time my wife sees me writing code she'll tell me "I think you forgot a semi-colon there".
I guess it was funny the first 3 times, but after 10 years, every day?22 -
An average day:
1. Start working on feature
2. Finish feature
3. Feature doesn't work
4. Spend 7 hours refactoring and fixing imaginary bugs
5. Add the 3 characters that were missing
6. Laugh and cry, laugh and cry...4 -
How to secure yourself from flash 0-day attacks:
1. Uninstall flash
2. Don't reinstall flash
3. Seriously, you don't need flash8 -
Boss: We need this update deployed and propagated before end of day.
Web: done!
Android: done!
iOS:...
Boss: what's the matter?
iOS: 2-3 business days, sir.

To be honest: Firefox.
I use it every day since version 3. And a piece of software which has so much competitors and can withstand my urge to change is my winner5 -
1. Purchased GTA San Andreas from Google Play
2. Always got a download failure at 85% downloaded.
3. Contacted Google support, got asked how my day was going
4. Had no idea how to answer that11 -
It's 3:30AM and I'm working.
If you work at night, no one can interrupt you.
If you sleep during the day, you can't attend any zoom meetings.
Also, at night you can work naked, and drink on the job without any judgement.
All problems solved.10 -
Response time of different people on Whatsapp:
Best Friend: 5-10 sec
Friend: 1-2 min
Best Friend(Girl): 3-5 min
Girl Friend: 1-2 day 😢
Client(when me solving bug): 0.00005 sec
Client(when me asking payment): *Blocked*

1. Find bug
2. Try 3 methods of fixing
3. All fail
4. Tell yourself you're trying for the LAST time then you'll go on to something else
5. End up trying 5 more times
6. Repeat step 4 20 times
7. Cry
8. Finally take a break
9. Return next day, try another method, it works instantly
FML!6 -
Step 1: Turn off any intellisense and debug tools.
Step 2: Code all day without running the code.
Step 3: Push everything to the build server and avoid looking at the result.
Step 4: Go home.
LIKE A BOSS!7 -
It's my first day here and I LOVE this place. Everyone is so awesome and helpful and smart! Thanks for making me feel at home! <311

Confession of the day:
1. I work in release mode
2. I work on the main branch only
3. I test on production13 -
I'm a Python dev, yet 99% of my work over last 3 weeks has been JS. How do js devs not sit in the corner of a room crying at the end of a day?28
-
Feeling blessed, left the army after 5 years, 3 deployments, to attend 3 years of computer science school and get a stable lifestyle.
I've got a supporting girlfriend, mentally never felt better, and for the next 3 years, this is my seat and view in class !
Happy coding all, and have a nice day✌️8 -
Creating a personal website:
Step 1: Have 20mins of inspiration.
Step 2: Spend a day writing css and js
Step 3: Realize it sucks because (ugly || bad responsive design || not enough content)
Step 4 Experience no inspiration what so ever for next week
Step 5: Repeat11 -
I was wearing my tux t-shirt today and while walking through the city I suddenly heard a boy (around 3-4 years) say to his mom: 'He had a penguin on his t-shirt!'
I smiled and this made my day. :)7 -
Trend of the day:
1. Facebook is really compromising user privacy, will delete my account!
2. Post about deleting Fb account to twitter, instagram, etc
3. "Ok google, what is privacy?"
4. Find a random app in play store and allow access regardless20 -
I saw this the other day:
if x % 3 == 0:
print("Number is divisible by 6")
I wanted to, and want to, die.7 -
I'm going to make 4 statements of which only 3 are true. You tell me in the comments which 3 are true.
1. At my job in the marketing department, I manage our Facebook ads campaign where we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising.
2. MIS department inexplicably blocked the marketing dept from the Facebook domain altogether near the end of the day.
3. They also block Dropbox although we still have to manage all the distribution of digital video and commercials to our tv advertisers.
4. I work in a technically progressive environment that understands how things work online.2 -
I'm the only programmer in the company. Sometimes it's exhausting doing everything. I'm currently working on 3 iOS apps, a web app, building out the APIs and managing the databases at the same time.
Full fucking stack. Every day.11 -
Our team changed to Linux about 3 years ago already and I can see some of them struggling to insert some commands when I'm talking to them.
How the fuck do you struggle to `cd` into a fucking directory?
Ok,ok... I've linuxing full time for 8 years already, I understand I've been through this... But come on! If some one said to me on day ONE "dude, you can cd /full/path/of/fucking/whatever" or " ~/ means home" I would be doing it from day one.
Probably I'm overreacting but wtf dudes? 3 years... Step up your game.18 -

April fools day prank idea:
1. Replace all semicolons with Greek question marks
2. Add a Gradle task that automatically fixes the semicolons, but only when run on the build servers
3. Watch as people get confused because the code builds in the server but not locally3 -
When you have a product owner who, on her first day of the project, asks you ' What do you mean by UI?' and a week later question a UI dev why should something take 3 days?
Are you fucking kidding me? I am done with this shit.3 -
Day 1: Client requested this change! Please do it!
[Make the change]
Day 2: Hold on, this is a new request and out of scope. we should reject this change.
[Rollback change]
Day 3: Client said they really need it. Please make the change.

i had a nightmare the other day that i was at work explaining to a friend that 1/3 is the same as 3/9 and i was shocked why they ddnt approve. then they pull out a calculator and i see that while the first fraction yields 0.33 the second yielded 0.057. so i felt so nervous and panicked then i woke up.4

Porting over code to python3 from python2 be like:
(Cakechat, in this case)
Day 0 of n of python 3 compatibility work:
This should be _easy_, just use six and do magic!
Day 1 of n:
Oh, true division is default instead of integer division, so I need to replace `/` with `//` in a few places.
Day 2 of n:
Oh, map in python2 behaves differently than map in python3, one returns a list, other an iterator. Time to replace it with `list(map())` then.
Day 3 of n:
Argh, lambdas don't evaluate automatically, time to fix that too.
Day 4 of n:
Why did I bother trying to port this code in the first place? It's been so long and I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS BROKEN BECAUSE THE STUFF RUNS WHEN I BREAKPOINT AND STEP THROUGH BUT NOT WHEN I RUN IT DIRECTLY?!
Day ??? of n:
[predicted]
*gives up*
I've had enough.4 -
I'm averaging 3 hours a day outside of meetings. Mostly in 30 minute blocks.
Manager is wondering why I can't get work done...5 -
First proper vacation in 12 years. Six days in sunny Gran Canaria.
Lost two days to a hurricane, one day to misleading holiday description and then caught COVID.
3/10 would not recommend.4 -
Client : We need this feature
Team lead : Sure, we will deliver this to you in 3 days.
Meanwhile Teamlead forgets to work on it or assign it to anyone in the team while he was surrounded by many other tasks.
Client on 2nd day morning : What's the progress on that feature?
Teamlead to Client: It's going fine, we will deliver it to you on time.
Meanwhile, Teamlead to a junior developer in the team (on 2nd day afternoon): We have this priority feature where we need to finish it in one day and deliver it tomorrow!
Junior Dev to Teamlead : This is too much of work to complete it in 1 day, it atleast needs 3 days!
Teamlead to Junior dev : I don't care, can't talk, busy, just complete the work and deal with the client, bye.
And the Junior dev continues to struggle where he is unknown of the fact that the task actually was of 3 days but just because the Teamlead forgot to do the task and also to assign the task early, he is in trouble!9 -
I FUCKING HATE IT when you have a free day and you are so happy about it, because you can work on your projects, study things you want
BUT NOO
you sleep a little bit longer, wake up
And suddenly you find out that you need to go to the other fucking side of the city in 3 hours and spend there half of the day.
FUCK
There goes my free day...5 -
-Boss instructs me to always set high estimates
-Asks in how many days will i finish X
-I think 3, but adding 1 extra day for each random problem i tell him one week
-He says thats way too long, make it 3 days
-Shit happens and i can barely finish it in one week
-My boss:1 -
Anyone work with other developers who take 3 times as long as you to do things, spend all day talking, get nothing done, so you have to pick up the slack? Fucking annoying.2
-
So I've been doing some code jobs now and recently they pushed me to a new level.
This company worked with some silly management app made in cpp which they asked me to edit a little bit giving it another style and some additional functions.
Day 1: this code is a mess.
Day 2: this code is a mess.
Day 3: how does this code even compile.
Day 4: I no longer have faith in humanity.
Day 5: I found my first comment (Yay?).
Day 16: I'm done.
Day 19: I got paid.
If you're making a project in cpp just like that dev you do deserve a punch in the throat.
No documentation, no comments, no patterns, just some thick pasta of poorly written code, names like fCalcAllTaxFilesSizeMB....
This haunts me for real.2 -
Finishing code - 1 day
Waiting for Business to get you the files you need for an import - 3 decades2 -
Decided to upgrade my hardware a day after wk119 ends. Oof. I'll post an update once the first part (monitors) arrives, but here's a before pic in the meantime.
Monitors: 3 different brands at 3 different sizes/resolutions. Left to right: 1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1440x900.
Mic: Neewer NW-800 with a U-PHORIA UMC22 interface.
Keyboard: A DIY Nyquist kit from keeb.io with Canvas XDA keycaps.
Rubber duck: I prefer a fuzzy kitten.3 -
My 1000 job applications tiktok journey may come to an end soon
Had 2, now I cant believe i have 3 (or 4) interviews from 3-4 different companies scheduled day after day, or hour after hour depending on schedule i choose. All of them are very interested in hiring me. For 7 months i couldnt find a job and almost no one wanted to interview. Ever since i went to the Church for Easter to pray, all of a sudden 4 new doors opened to me 1 week later, all in 1 week...12 -
3 weeks off work - complete.
1st day back - in progress
Shit storm flurry awaiting my arrival - bring it on!1 -
Dear diary, today was a good day.
1: i got the confirmation of promotion.
2: i solved a task using newly introduced tech and it works. Which has lots of implications on future work, a lot faster too. Also everyone is happy and supportive.
3: i felt good at the progress made with my kinesitherapy, my spine is starting to cooperate again.
Overall a good day.
Oh, and also i got payed :D1 -
planned a project,
spent a whole day on a feature.
3 weeks later, i realise that feature i spent a whole day on wasn't needed at all.
i'm a fucking noob ape trying to pretend it's a developer or some shit.3 -
Estimations:
2 days = One day of actual coding, one day of doing something completely unrelated.
3 days = One week
5 days = Two weeks
7 days = Forget about it...2 -
3 Days Group Project.
1. day (get into matter, collect ideas)
2. day (mate was sick and stayed home, I programmed our Java game from scratch 100%)
3. day (he comes again, gets my source code, changes games wallpaper and sets tick speed to 60 instead of 30.
He deletes my version on all presentation PCs because he thought his was "better")2 -
About to send my entire department on Vacation Leave today for the next week. We have 3 days of work before we go on holiday leave (next week). And I want to give them a 3 day head start because fuck everyone else and I want me boys to enjoy shit beforehand.

First day after 3-4 hours:
"Our bathroom were out of the office and needed a badge to get in and out of office."
Him:"Hey i need to go the bathroom can you help me?"
P: "Sure".
Never to be seen again4 -
For fuck's sake man! I know you are an inexperienced junior dev/student but estimating 3 months at 6 hours /day for slightly modifying some C# code is just ridiculous.
I may have never touched anything .NET before but the modification required just 3 fucking lines and I did it in a day. In three months I would have finished the whole fucking project.
PS: VS2017 (RC) was quite lovely.8 -
Why is it so hard to read a 15 pages paper or article? I read hundreds of fiction pages or news in a day, but reading 100 lines of a scientific paper is a pain in the arse and I lose concentration by line 3.
Fak.9 -
I've just finished my last day at work... I'm switching from being a 100% PM (almost 3 years) to being a 100% backend machine!
God, how I hated that job...8 -
If I do it in python : Finish in one day!
If I do it in C++ :
1 week for installation and configuration
3 days for coding
Another 1 day for troubleshooting...
But I will still prefer do it in C++.5 -
I just realized this is the "week" where I am on call for a week and a half. Over a 3 day weekend. Hoping my friends are free and can save me from my insanity...7

One fine day, at work, I was doing one of my favourite things.
git push origin test:mainline
And it prompted for my credentials. I gave them and continued as per yooozh..
What I didn't realise then was that I had used my personal github credentials instead of my official account's!
Oops.
Day 3 - and no one has noticed yet...6 -
Burnout signs:
1) laying in bed all day
2) watching old natgeo documentaries

So yesterday my uncle sang that song this way:

Checking email only 3-4 times during the day saves a lot of concentration. -
I go to my day job and people ask:
'So what you going to do with your 3 days off?'
'I'm going to code'
'Noooo you should relax and chill'

Our office has 3 walls made of glass
There are no blinds/curtains/etc
Every day, between about 1pm and 4pm, they Destroyer of Eyeballs hangs in the sky above my monitor, before it finally gets blocked out by another tower block
I now time-track 3hrs less each day - eventually someone will realise that buying blinds is cheaper than paying me to not work 15hrs/week8 -
From a life of a junior developer...
Got assigned one task for a 2 week sprint. 'Finished' it in 3 day, not actually sure it's finished as all the other devs are too busy to look at the pull request. So here I am... Ranting away and being bored1 -
First day of new job, starts in 3 hours. Imposter syndrome is strong! Lack of sleep from stress isn't helping!
On a side note, I have reconfirmed that I don't actually need sleep. College theories confirmed!4 -

-Work with SCR(OT)UM for the first time
-Divide tasks into 3 day sprints

Step #1) Teach Alexa to respond to "When is Memorial day" with an incorrect date in the future
Step #2) Ask Alexa, next to your wife.
Step #3) See how long you can keep your wife going on "the government moved Memorial Day due to Coronavirus" before she realizes your just a prankster.1 -
For some reason, I started using Office 365 30 day trial a month ago, obviously, and yesterday, a month passed, but the product registered automatically and says it is a product officially signed with a product key.
Thanks Microsoft!

Yesterday was the first day of my final exams. (They are scheduled this whole week) First exam was programming on paper and it went surprisingly good. I'm pretty sure i made one or two minor mistakes but overall it should work. (3 tasks: program a calculator; program a car-showcase program and explain quicksort) We had 3 hours to do this and even though i needed them i didn't feel any pressure. That was really nice. Thank you for calming me down the last days/weeks and ensuring me that i can do this.
I hope today's going as smooth. Exam of the day is networks. Wish me luck^^8 -
At my job in the past week there have been at least one 1 hour-long meeting every day with today hitting the record with 3 meetings.
This is fucking insane. I signed to a developer job, not a guy-sittimg-and-listening job.2 -
I feel like the Jenkins logo is just trolling me when this happens 5 minutes before the end of the day on a 3 hour build.....I hate you sir.5

Day 3 since I purchase a laptop and my productivity level has risen significantly. Love not being restricted to my desk.2

I don't get why nowadays people still buy smartphones with battery capacity between 2500mAh and 3500mAh meanwhile there are cheap enough smartphones with fricking 5000mAh(or more)!

I hate my freelancer life.
1. No weekends
2. No particular time to close
3. Work for 12 to 14 hours without sleep sometimes
4. Keep explaining the dumb clients about how development is not wordpress.
Its all fucked up. I have no life.
My average Lines of code this month is around 700 LOC/day. Whereas the average that showed on internet is 100 LOC/day.
I have choosen a hellish life.10 -

I used to code for 10-12 hours a day. But for last 2 months I'm hardly coding for 2-3 hours a day.

It's been 3 days now 😡😡😡😡2 -
How many hours do you put in daily at your day job? Do you go home and work on personal projects? How much time do you put into that? Are you married? Do you have children?
I'll go first:

- yes

So I didn't get the time to post an update this morning, so an afternoon post will have to do. Today's walk was just a little past 12km, giving us all some hope to get it done in a reasonable time. The first six or so kilometers were quite harsh with winds reaching speeds of at least 15 m/s, probably closer to 20. With the rain smattering like tiny bullets our morale was pretty low. What kept us going was the knowledge that just a few kilometers ahead lay a valley a few hundred meters below our current altitude, promising warmer air, and most importantly, less wind.
As we approached the valley we could see trees appearing over the horizon, a good sign as the Swedish Fjäll generally isn't very inviting to trees, and from this point on our walk became more and more pleasant. During lunch everyone could feel the feeling of achievement lingering between us, and another three kilometers later we arrived at our cabins.
So here I am, sitting in a couch in a cozy cabin. Most of us just left the sauna, and in an hour or so we'll have a great meal and probably some celebration. Tomorrow I think we'll just chill out, perhaps pick some mushrooms, and then head to the train to wake up the next day in Malmö, ready for another week of work. Who knows, perhaps I'll even have time to squeeze in another update.
Cheers, time for a nap.6 -

Went on holiday abroad for 3 weeks and left my laptop at home so as "not to distract me from enjoying myself".
I miss it every day 😔 -
86 lines of code...duplicated 3 times in the same file...and only a single integer constant is different. This is the shit that makes my day to day work tedious.
Im glad I dont personally know the previous dev, he would get his throat punched...though calling him a dev is more of a compliment than he deserves.2 -
I estimate by guessing how long it will take me to code then multiply it by 3 and round up to the whole unit.
10-30min work = 1 day
2 day work = 1wk
1wk work = 2-3wks
1month = 3 months
If only I didn't have to deal with other people that take forever....
That and I feel lately whenever my boss ask me for a "quick" change or feature... I literally have to go "down boy down, stop thinking your in a candy store" like he's a little kid.1 -
Achievement of the day:
Reverted a merge from 3 weeks ago (about 30-40 commits back), 1000 ish LOC. Didnt break the build, app worked 100%.
Can't shake the feeling my desk will literally be on fire tomorrow tho. -
3 days 2 nights with only 20 min naps and max 1h of sleep in between. I was finishing my masters thesis. Then I handed it in the next day and everything felt like it is in slow motion? The printing, the going there to hand it in, etc. Couldn't sleep for that day either xD do not recommend. Start writing your thesis on time kids

Applyed for internship for an American company in Japan. Email said I will interview with 3 people at most, 1h each, back to back, and everything will be in English.
But on the day they said I will interview with 4 people, and everything was in Japanese.
They said they will tell me the results within 2 weeks, but got rejected after 3 weeks.
Take responsibility for what you say guys...1 -
Detox for a couple of weeks.
Have been avoiding social media apps like Instagram and Facebook.
It’s day 3, already feeling positive and less stressed
Only downside is what to do in free time8 -
Just got off a 10-day pip. I didn’t do anything differently and everyone said I showed a lot of improvement. I literally write like 3 lines of code in two weeks and closed six tickets.7

Companies new policy.
Deadline is looming, we need to work super hard and be super productive so we will set 3 meeting each day to check on how productive you have been in the last 2 hours...1 -
ideal sprint fallacy.
total days 10 , total hours(excluding breaks ) 8 hrs per day= 80 hrs per dev
code freeze day = day 8, testing+ fixing days : 8,9,10. release day : day 10
so ideal dev time = 7days/56 hr
meetings= - 1hr per day => 49 hrs per dev
- 1 day for planning i.e d1 . so dev time left . 6 days 42 hrs.
-----------
all good planning. now here comes the messups
1. last release took some time. so planning could not happen on d1. all devs are waiting. . devtime = 5 days 35 hrs.
2. during planning:
mgr: hey devx what's the status on task 1?
d: i integrated mock apis. if server has made the apis, i will test them .
mgr : server says the apis are done. whats your guestimate for the task completion?
d : max 1-2 hrs?
m : cool. i assign you 4 hrs for this. now what about task 2?
d : task told to me is done and working . however sub mgr mentioned that a new screen will be added. so that will take time
m : no we probably won't be taking the screen. what's your giestimate?
d : a few more testing on existing features. maybe 1-2 hrs ?
m: cool
another 4 hrs for u. what about task 3?
d : <same story>
m : cool. another 4 hrs for u. so a total of 12 hrs out of 35 hrs? you must be relaxed this sprint.
d : yeah i guess.
m cool.
-------
timelines.
d1: wasted i previous sprint
d2 : sprint planning
d3 : 3+ hrs of meetings, apis for task 1 weren't available sub manager randomly decided that yes we can add another screen but didn't discussed. updates on all 3 tasks : no change in status
d4 : same story. dev apis starts failing so testing comes to halt.
d5 : apis for task1 available . task 3 got additional improvement points from mgr out of random. some prod issue happens which takes 4+ hrs. update on tasks : some more work done on task 3, task 1 and 2 remains same.
d6 : task1 apis are different from mocks. additionally 2 apis start breaking and its come to know thatgrs did not explain the task properly. finally after another 3+ hrs of discussion , we come to some conclusions and resolutions
d7 : prod issue again comes. 4+ hrs goes into it . task 2 and 3 are discussed for new screen additiona that can easily take 2+ days to be created . we agree tot ake 1 and drop 2nd task's changes i finish task 2 new screens in 6 hrs , hoping that finally everything will be fine.
d8 : prod issue again comes, and changes are requested in task 2 and 3
day 9 build finally goes to tester
day 10 first few bugs come with approval for some tasks
day 11(day 1 of new sprint) final build with fixes is shared. new bugs (unrelated to tasks. basically new features disguised as bugs) are raised . we reject and release the build.
day 2 sprint planning
mgr : hey dev x, u had only 12 hrs of work in your plate. why did the build got delayed?

I had a list that was built off a for loop.
One day the list was off by 1, and continued to be for a solid week...
Instead of solving the problem.. Added +1 to the incrementer variable.
Hasn't happened since (3 years)1 -
Consecutive day number 3 of "What random dumb shit is Xcode going to pull on me today?"
today it doesn't like the ".storyboard" extension name that it created itself automatically. So that's my fault again I suppose?5 -
Signing the contract with a new agency as their new dev in 3 hrs. Will quit my current Job on Aug. 18. Looking forward to that day. Boss will explode...5

The most tedious part of my day is when WSL crashes. I then have to close my editor, shutdown WSL in cmd, start the editor again, open a terminal and start over. This happens 2-3 times a day.7

Had a very productive day today:
1. Fixed a small bug
2. Ordered Tab S6
3. Watched the entire season of a Netflix show4 -
A Timehop from 3 years ago stated "I will learn one day to do 301 redirects in .htaccess without Googling it."
I still don't know.1 -
1. Putting bits in proper places is fun
2. It's cool to translate curiosity and caffeine into money
3. Coding is modern-day magic in many ways -
Omfg... Fixed 3 LifeRay 6.1.1 ce security bugs in less than a day. I should be proud, but I am actualy fucking worried I've been with this project for too long if I can already make liferay fixes THAT fast...
Am I becoming a legacy...? Shit5 -
Been working on a small collab with my 3 mates
It's just one guy who's doing all the heavy lifting
I chime in with a 3-4 line modification every day or so
The other two are afk
It's chugging along just fine..
I feel like a garbage can in front of this guy's coding ability1 -
[day 1] my team lead insisted that we work "together" on a story. told me to code my approach while he code his then evaluate both once done.
[day 3] we presented our codes to the team but in the end his code got deployed.
[day 4- 7]we got a lot of defects. we did a lot of fixing
[day 8] undeployed his code then deployed mine.
all problems got solved.1 -

So I decided today was a good day to manually compile python 3.6 for my raspberry pi as it hasn't yet been added to any supported repo's. Site says: this will take approximately 30 minutes.

A day in the life of a paypal dev.
1. Slurp some starbucks
2. Do a lil' Meeting
3. Eat lunch
4. 1on1 Meeting with manager for one hour
5. Scroll over some code and look at the beautiful Momentum ToDo app
6. Bid some employee farewell (seems to happen every day there apparently)
Sounds pretty efficient. When you write no code you cannot create any bugs...3 -

Day 1:
Optimizing huge problems for the company. Get mail. *sigh*; Why is your script using up half the CPU on our thin clients? *place in complaints folder and go on*
Day 2:
Boss asks about it during scrum meeting. *Oh shits*
Need a cluster. Been asking for it for months...
Day 3:
Start runs on all thin clients. *Thou shall feel my wrath*
Complaints folder floods.
Day 4:
Expect rage from boss.
"IT seems to have found a cluster for you at last."

So, after day 3 of Rust programming I have an observation to make:
Rust package management (and conflicts that arise) is not very good.
To the rusters out there, am I wrong? Is there something to make it better?19 -

Software Development Process
0. I can't fix this
1. Crisis of confidence
2. Questions career
3. Questions life
4. Oh it was a typo, cool
*Not my original content, but it made me smile and I need one more point on this uncomfortably hot day2 -
Day #1: You start working on something new, you feel stupid because you don't know anything.
Day #2: You learned the basic concepts. Start feeling so well.
Day #3-9...: Start feeling like you know everything.
Day #?: You start something new, you feel like the last piece of shit un the world.
Repeat -
Work for myself.
3 projects on the go, 1 interesting one I'm waiting for more content, 2 I have content but they're boring projects and the content was provided in most disorganised, unintelligible fashion.
Day off watching movies it is :-)2 -
I wish devrant or a similar app had a point system for the most excellent rants that could somehow brighten my day <31

Is it normal to be frustrated when you can't solve the bug for a day and all you can do is update on what you've tried solutions?

QA/stakeholder person: can you add the following links to the footer?
devs: sure. easy.
devs: oh wait, 3 of those links are 404. Are you planning to create those pages? or were those urls just a suggestion?
<crickets>
devs: ok well for now we'll leave those out.
stakeholder (a day later): hey these 3 links are still not in the footer!
devs: yeah we asked about that yesterday.
boss: the links are there now
devs (quietly): fuck you. -

I love SQL.
In other news, client won't send data to utilize, so I must fill in dummy data.
How's your day? -
Lovely unity.
I kept building apps for android for the WHOLE day, then I just change the app version and what do I get?
No android SDK version is installed anymore, apparently.
Now I'll just have to wait like 3-4h to download everything back again.7 -
Friday: Expectations vs Reality
Expectation: Work on work for half the day then work on side projects for the rest of the day. Consider it a good day.
Reality: Work on work for whole day. Then have your boss set the expectation to have a project completed by Monday morning that you know will take 3 more days. Hence making you work the weekend to try to get it done in time. -.-4 -
My family STILL doesn't know what I do to this day. I graduated 3 years ago and have been in the industry since. They think I'm a designer. 🙄 No, mom and dad. I CODE. 😂2

Trying to setup a staging server boss says just use AWS, system admin doesn't like that thought because it doesn't involve him so waited all day for 3 VM's and still not ready... All I need is 3 blank CoreOS VMs nothing fancy like even doing the cloud config no. Anyone else has colleagues scared of moving out of the private high maintenance servers in the basement?6

If being late can be marked as "half day leave"; should leaving early also be marked as "half day leave"?
On a side note, my company already has just 3.4 out of 5 ratings on the basis of 3 ratings, on glassdoor... Now they're messing up with 2 employees on notice period. Both of us are planning to give 1. :)4 -
After a 3 weeks break from work and programming, the hardest thing is going back on track. It's day 4 that I have started 'working' and I barely finished any tasks. I keep thinking of the great time I spent on 3 weeks holiday. ;'(1

Sitting inside on a 3 degree day, wondering why I haven’t moved yet. Anyone in Seattle? How do you like it?1

Split everything into small tasks, no longer than two days of work
Use Fibonacci numbers, 1-2-3-5-8-13
A highly effective developer will produce about 80% of a work day. If you think a task is done within a day add 25% and your estimate is ten. Remember that we use Fibonacci and round up to 13.1 -
I have been working for 3 days with less than 4 hours of sleep a day. I keep dreaming of conflicting layout constraints, failure in fetching data from FetchedResultsController, Xcode crashing in between (oh well). Never been more frustrated.6
-
I keep obsessing about the time. I keep looking for patterns as the day goes on. I noticed the other day that these patterns for time have math relationships in each:
15:18:21 ie 15 + 3 = 18 and 18 + 3 = 21
03:18:21 ie 3 + 18 = 21
One time is morning at 3 am the other is evening at 3 pm. I cannot stop looking for these.
Is the descent into madness?6 -
1) Miss Ludum Dare 40 because you remembered it is on one day after it started.
2) See Ludum Dare 41 is this week on time.
3) Lack the time to do it.
4) Commit suicide.2 -
Co-op integration, day 3: we 'discovered' that we need 2 new back end services before we can integrate. Project is now on hold until this can be complete... lasted longer than I thought :)

co-op integration, day 1: after 3 hours we decided to postpone all coding until day 2 since we found 8 product open issues and 5 architecture open issues. Also, the other company has a critical deployment problem that needs addressing. good start...

I've worked 16 hours per day for 3 days just because the Diwali was coming and there were too many holidays, so they kinda peeled me hard....
They decided to deliver things in 2-3 days which was supposed to be 18 days with proper planning and QA but yea fuck everything...... -
being middleware... had to split up back end work in two parts which wasn't necessary but for 1 day it is split up and at the end 3 days delayed because of split up... controlling temper was the biggest challenge of that part.

My company misses the word agile so much, now we are deploying 3-4 times to prod in a day 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️5

A team of over 70 completing around 3-5 tests per day, per person. A deadline 8 days from now with around 900 to go. We determined they would have to do 19 a day each and yet somehow management is overly confident we will make deadline...should be interesting. Wonder who's getting fired over this one.1

Day 4 of devWholesome...
Lets try and do something good today! Exercise and eating healthy is important. Go for a walk with your dog today or go on the treadmill. Any amount of exercise is good for you! Make sure you are also eating healthy and eating all 3 meals of the day. Make sure you are keeping up with your hygiene and making sure your body is healthy. And as always, make the most of your day!1 -

Corporate bureaucracy:
How I know, within 30 mins of starting a New day, that I'm perfectly capable of torturing and killing another human being.
And I still have to get 3 more approvals before they will even look at actually doing the task..... -
Took my first PTO today since joining the new company to get my wisdom teeth extracted. Already took care of that first thing this morning. Now I actually get to kick back and listen to some records until my new GPU is delivered, and then I get to fuck off the rest of the weekend with new games because my wife says I can't do any yard work this weekend.
Only had the top two extracted because I was born without the bottoms I guess. But less pain on my wallet and my jaw, I'll happily trade in the narcotics they gave me and stick to my scotch.
Not a bad 3 day weekend in my book. Ill have to go back and figure out who/what broke the projection runner in the sandbox environment when I go back, but eh. that's a Monday problem now. 😎4 -
Just because I didn't know the direction to work on doesn't mean I didn't do shit
Also, aren't you the professor so you please tell me what to do
And no you don't need to focus on the sample dataset I'm working on. Yes its name is "Breast Cancer" SO WHAT!!!2 -

You know it will be a fucking glorious day when you open up that legacy project from 3 years ago.
Calling those NPM package dependencies "outdated" is an understatement...
3 years equals to roughly 1 million new JS hipster frameworks.1 -
im just gonna say it now and I may be mistaken but: I think airtable might one day supplant atlassians offerings.

2. sufficiently flexible, balabcing power and complexitly
3. low learning curve for the pay off.3 -
When you swap day from night. Sleep starting at 5:00AM , and wake up at 3:00PM. And do stuff (coding , others) until dawn. Which makes me like a vampire.

Programming lesson #8
Nowadays I write tasks for the next day at the end of my shift in the sticky notes app.
That way it's easier to start off for the next day without trying to remember what tasks were remaining from the previous day.
If tasks are greater in number then it's good to go for external task tracking tools. But for me keeping track of just 2-3 tasks is easier by using simple sticky notes app.2 -

I was working at a restaurant and picked up a couple shifts notrealizing they were all on the same day. Started at 5:30 am as the opener, orked my normal 3-close shift and left at 7am the next day after doing after doing the night cleaning job. -
In our application we now need the possibility to add visit hours to addresses. Each day has 3 possible visit moments with a from and to hour and some indicator, and a comment, like this:
monday_visit_from_1, monday_visit_to_1, monday_visit_ind_1, (repeat for 2 and 3), monday_visit_comment (repeat for all 7 days)
For "performance" they (db admin) decided to add all the fields of all the days as separate columns in the address table, 70 in total.
Besides being a horrible design it is a fucking pain to work with, like find if an address can be visited on a given day and time we need to check a subset of columns based on the day and the 3 moments in this day.
Is this really more performant than an extra table to hold the visit moments and is this something that gets done in more places?1 -
Day 1 . Change of my PC from laptop to PC. All ok
Day 2 . My work place chief says me they order me a new SSD... Damn I've just done the installation of ARCH.
Day 3 . I reinstall ARCH on the SSD drive leaving the old HD as home partition..
Last day a collegue says me to leave the home partition on SSD and linking the permanent forlders on the old HD...
Never ending story... -

Momentum and flow state is such a magical thing, like compound interest. I started off the Phoenix Project with like 2 or 3 chapters per day. But in the last two days I read like 15 chapters (5 chapters + 10 chapters) and finished the book.2

Okay so I need some help. I need a new laptop which will hopefully last at least through my 4 years of school but I'm not sure which one to get. Currently I'm between the Acer swift 3 and the Dell xps 13. I was wondering if anybody could offer some insight on their experiences with either. All I'd really be using it for would be day to day stuff and programming nothing too crazy5

Your opinions about xamarin? I <3 it but I have to deal at least 2h a day with fixing xamarin related problems. Currently working on "ResolveLibraryProjectImport task failed unexpectedly" -.-1

3 hours a day of uninterrupted dev time, 4 days a week (~12 hours a week).

Ok so a guy came over to my house and started boasting how much salary his daughter and son-in-law is earning working as managers in some bank. When i told him that i am a software dev who works for almost 9-10 hours a day, he said his daughter just has 4, meetings in a day and thats it. Do you guys think its fair to pay someone so much who just have 3/4 meetings a day?6

Today is my last day at <Digital Agency>, I've learned so much over the last 3 years and I'm grateful for all the opportunities that I got here.
From walking in here on my first day as React Dev and today walking away as Lead Dev.
Soon I will start at a Saas Startup!! Super excited about this new opportunity!2
