Client: I love the site and will sign your contract today. I'll even give you a bonus since you got it done early. Can you put it up there this evening?
Me: I'm so glad that you liked it. I'll bring a condom with me all filled out and ready to go so we can push it up there.
Me: Contract. Damned phone
Client: please leave the condom at home

Dev: this task is done, can I put it in review and do something else?
Me: sure, of course.
Dev: cool, just be aware I'll make some changes to it later.
Me: ... wait, then it's not done.
Dev: no it is, I just need to re-read it and make some changes.
Me: yeah, so it will be done when those changes are made.
Dev: but I don't know what those changes are.
Me: ... I get that ... but ... ok I'm extremely confused. Why do you think it's done.
Dev: because I've written everything I need to and I'm happy with it.
Me: ok so why do you want to make changes.
Dev: I don't.
Me: ... ... ... ... you ... you are really not being clear. If you don't want to make changes, and you are happy with it, why are you planning on making changes later ... after marking the task as done.
Dev: well if I re-read it and see something I don't like, I would like to change it.
Me: ok, so re-read it as many times as you like and make as many changes as you like. But don't mark it as done until it is done.
Dev: but it is done.
Me: no it's not.
Dev: it is, look.
Me: ... yeah looks ok at a quick glance.
Dev: ok so I can mark it as done?
Me: are you going to make more changes?
Dev: yes.
Me: then no.
Dev: why?
Me: BECAUSE ITS NOT DONE.
Dev: ok maybe I'm not explaining it clearly.
Me: ... we can both agree on that. Ok so to summarise, we don't mark something as done until we have stopped touching it. We don't half finish something and say it's done and comeback to it later. We mark it as done when we are happy with i.....
Dev: but I am happ.....
Me: *raises hand* I repeat, if it's done, we lock it away and stop touching it. If someone reads it and complains, we can come back to it with a new ticket. But it's not done until we think we are ready to send it on.
Dev: I am ready to send it, I just may want to change it.
Me: ... ... ... ... ... due to a new policy implemented just now, we are only allowed to send 1 email to a person each week. So unfortunately we can only send on 1 copy. So when you have that 1 copy, let me know.
Dev: ok, let me re-read it a few more times then.
Me: there you go.32 -
OW FUCKING GREAT

Boss: "it's not the same font"
Me: "yes, it is"
Boss: "don't argue with me. It's a different font"
Me: "ok it's a different font" (it's not)
Boss: "change it please"
15 minutes later and I've done nothing at all to it. Boss comes back.
Boss: "see? I knew it was a different font. This looks perfect now. Why were you lying to me before? I don't like you arguing with me"11 -
Client: "Hi, there's a problem with this link"
Me: "How odd, I'll take a look right away"

Client: "Has this been fixed?"
Me: "I'm working on it currently"
Client: "OK please let us know when it's done"
Me: "I will do"
-- 2 minutes later --
Client: "Hi, is this done?"
Me: "I've just told you I will let you know as soon as it's done"
-- 5 minutes later --
Client: "Hi, sorry to hassle, but is this done yet?"
Me: *starts twitching*
Me: "I am working on it and I will let you know when it's done"
Client: "OK, well don't worry about it, it doesn't really matter"
Me: *explodes*10 -
ON MONDAY
TL: Why the hell you require a month to integrate this engine?
Me: It will take that much time, can't help it.
TL: it can be done within a week.
Me: Then you do it.
TL: Ok I will show how it's done in a week.
ON FRIDAY
Me: What's the status on that integration?
TL: Oh yeah about that, you have to carry it ahead, I have some monitoring to do.
Me: Ok, give me the repository access, I will carry it ahead.
ME OPENS REPOSITORY.

When I was in my second semester of college I was tasked with creating a file encrypt/decrypt program. Take in normal textfiles and spit out a new random text and symbols file. I worked on it for two weeks and read up on all different encryption types and stuff. I was so excited when it was done. After it was done compiling I tried it out on its own source code. Encrypto.c and named the output file Encrypto.c 😰 The next thing I did was google " best version control and how to use it."17

Designer: can we put the popup at the top of the screen?
Me: You mean op top of the navigation?
Designer: Yeah.
Me: I sure can. Would be stupid to block off the site navigation with a popup, but definately possible.
Designer: Cool, let me know when done!
Me: ....
Me: I am done.
Designer: Well now I can't click on the navigation anymore.
Me: That's correct. Let me know when you want to change it again.13 -
FUCK HELL YEAH! I'm done with my FUCKING THESIS! I just handed it in - that filthy time eating piece of blood sucking papershit! God yes! I'm proud and relieved as fuck!
Got really sick as well! Fuck the stress! Fuck everything. I'm just gonna play Witcher 3 all day long with some nice cup of tea !26 -

The moment that I finally understood OOP.
Several teachers had already given up explaining it over and over again but one classmate took a few hours to explain.
Suddenly, after a few hours, that AH-HA! moment was there!
I've done as much OOP programming as possible since then and have explained it to others who were struggling with it as well 😊30 -
IBM
I have replied to them with scripts, curl commands, and Swagger docs (PROVIDED TO SUPPORT THEIR API), everything that could possibly indicate there's a bug. Regardless, they refuse to escalate me to level 1 support because "We cant reproduce the issue in a dev environment"
Well of course you can't reproduce it in a dev environment otherwise you'd have caught this in your unit tests. We have a genuine issue on our hands and you couldnt give less of a shit about it, or even understand less than half of it. I literally gave them a script to use and they replied back with this:
"I cannot replicate the error, but for a resource ID that doesnt exist it throws an HTTP 500 error"
YOUR APP... throws a 500... for a resource NOT FOUND?????????!!!!!!!!!! That is the exact OPPOSITE of spec, in fact some might call it a MISUSE OF RESTFUL APIs... maybe even HTTP PROTOCOL ITSELF.
I'm done with IBM, I'm done with their support, I'm done with their product, and I'm DONE playing TELEPHONE with FIRST TIER SUPPORT while we pay $250,000/year for SHITTY, UNRELENTING RAPE OF MY INTELLECT.11 -
Freelancing website be like: I need a Rolls Royce with high-quality leather and with perfect temperature control. I will also need a mini fridge for my champagne bottle and two wine glass holders. I don't think there's a lot of work to be done in it. It's an easy job.
Budget: $303 -
Just had a fucking god-mode moment.
My dear @Divisionbyzero asked me to help out with DKIM on his Linux server.
Although I'd never done it before, with the help of a search engine and root access to the server, I managed to somehow figure out what was going wrong and fix it.
This is quite deeper than I ever went with debugging!
Also a big thanks to Linux for being open, otherwise I'd be fucking fucked right now.7 -
Boss: Why is it that you are still not done with this?
Me: Because I keep getting interrupted
Boss: By what?3 -
Best way to avoid procrastinating: the sooner it gets done, the sooner I no longer have to think about doing it. When I have a bunch of shit to do, I start with the things I like the least, and save the more enjoyable things for last.5

I just had a major breakthrough on a project 😊
Just standing there chatting with my dad (also a dev), while preparing for the new years feast, and got this amazing idea that I just had to try. 30 minutes later I'm done with the script and it works flawlessly 😊😅5 -
Worst part of being a dev: "we need this done by the end of the week"
Me: "ok what are the specifications?"
PMs: "not sure yet, we have a meeting with the client on Thursday."
Me: "cool, I'll look at it Monday."
Don't come to me with deadlines before you know what I'm building. -
Are you done yet?
Is it ready for review ?
How far?
Any updates?
When can I check?
We are wasting time..
How long will it take ?
Are you saying this will take 2 days to complete?
😪😪😪
Pls raise a cup with me if you can relate.
Add yours too.8 -
Got the iPod and music synchronisation isn't working well with Linux (I've synced quite some iProducts and it always goes great so this is a new one for me).
Bought a windows pc a few days ago and haven't installed Linux onto it yet so booted it up, installed Firefox and then downloaded iTunes.
Nearly done with installing when an error message pops up and the entire fucker blue-screens. Now it doesn't boot anymore 😡
Go die in a fucking corner, windows.10 -
Hot take: PHP is pretty good nowadays.
I'm a Laravel dev right now and things just get done so quickly. Every language has its problems but the meme of PHP hate seems to be made more out of ignorance these days. You could find just as many problems with any other language.
For those that say I'm biased because I work through the framework more than the language, I'd ask don't you do the same? ASP.NET, Java EE, the millions of JS frameworks, all these also make your life easier within their languages.
In the end, work with what makes you happy and productive and be done with it.16 -
Client: I saw this feature on a site and I want it on mine.
Me: I’m almost done with the project. You can’t possibly expect me to start adding new features now.
Client: Just go online and copy the code. I won’t take that long. It shouldn’t be difficult if you’re a professional.
WTF is wrong with people. The worlds gone to shit. Who does he think he is?13 -
I'm done with this fuckin shit.
Why it doesnt even work.
Fuck it. I will look at it tomorrow.
*after 5 mins*
opens terminal, editor:
- o boi, let's go again2 -
Team says their code is done, tested, and working. They have merged all of their code and now to merge it with mine.
Take care of the merge, go to test it, and NONE OF IT WORKS.
Ok... So maybe something in my code did it. NOPE. Still crashes without mine.
Thank goodness for version control.
Now need to help define what "tested and working" means...4 -
IPod didn't sync well on my Linux machines so decided to give windows - in a highly isolated environment disconnected from the Internet behind a firewall and sandbox - a shot with itunes.
- during the installation it wouldn't detect the fucking harddrive multiple times (genuine unlicensed copy) and after the 4-5th time it's random-fuckingly recognized out of fucking nowhere; I didn't change shit.
- crashes (blue screen and freezes) multiple times during the installation, multiple retries and suddenly it works(?!)
- it took about 10 minutes (!!!!!!!) to install 10+ drivers for an iPod and an external hdd:
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
WHY INSTALL THOSE FUCKERS 5 FUCKING TIMES?!
- iTunes installation fails multiple times without error code (unknown error occured, restoring to original state...),just said fuck it and clicked the shortcut after the ***th fail and it works just like this, THANKS FOR NOTIFYING ME (NOT)!
- iTunes has to restore the entire ipod, this was done with iTunes in the store I bought it already, thanks for nothing.
-restore takes 30+ minutes?!
-syncs the iPod 3 times afterwards.
*clicks close button*
*are you sure you want to quit? Sync in progress*
*oh shit, cancels*
*itunes quits*
*?!?!?*
*tries to import media library*
*seagate hdd suddenly not detected*
I'm fucking tired of this bullshit, windows and iTunes can go die in a fucking corner after getting ass raped while their genitals are being scraped off layer by fucking layer and dipped into fucking acid.14 -
11:45pm
I better go brush my teeth and do all my other things, to be safely and happily in bed with plenty of time to get a good night's sleep.
11:52pm
I am done doing those things. I sit back down in front of the computer to start closing apps to shut it down.
11:53pm
I get an idea to write a script to more effectively launch my remmina sessions with keywords in my keyboard launcher. It will take about ten minutes to write.

The script is pretty much done, and I've done 37 quizzes on jetpunk. -

Mid-Friday: Boss: Start programming this application.
Me: Cool, how will it be setup? what lang-
Boss: Everything's already setup, just start programming in PHP. Check in and make sure it's done by Wednesday morning before 9.
Mid-Tuesday:
Me: Cool, it's done. Had some trouble with connecting our database to the clients, some permissions were conflicting.
Boss: Now I need you to pull it, publish it to our other azure portal, change it to ASP.NET Core 2.1 MVC and install it to teams. Also change the database to MySQL.
Me: I thought everything was already setup.
Boss: things change.
Me: Cool.
*Pulls an all nighter*
Me: Something isn't right...
Wednesday
Me*hasn't slept yet*: It's done.
Boss: Why do you look so tired?
Me: I was working last night
Boss: Well you shouldn't do that.
Me: The deadline is today. only way it was going to get done before 9 was to do it last night.
Boss: Doesn't matter.
9am Meeting:
Boss: it was easy, no hassle, it's up and running.
Me: no hassle?7 -
Ok, I’m over windows. Done with it.
I have been a long time windows, I’ve used most versions since 3.11, and have used Linux for a few years on the side (not as a daily but have needed it for work and servers) but with yesterday’s update, not only have I lost audio for the countless time again, as far as Windows is concerned there’s nothing fucking wrong with it, besides the lack of sound and all.
Drivers are reinstalled, deleted and reinstalled, redownloaded from manufacturer, different drivers installed.
Ran a system restore back to before the update and just dropped the hdd into another laptop (it’s identical model) and still no fucking audio (to exclude the audio chip as failing)
So fuck it, I’m spending my weekend finding a distro that will work, I’m fucking done!8 -
A conversation that me and my boss had this week:
Boss: "Hey, why is this not progressing"
Arcsector: - "We're waiting on system users to move their destinations"
"We need the system in the database in order to move it"
- "Okay awesome - let's move it, oh wait, I can't do it because I don't have access, here's the stuff that needs to be done: a, b, and c"
"Oh I'm actually not able to help with that"
- "So then how are we supposed to get it done?"
"idk but also this other issue is something missions are complaining about"
- "oh I already am talking to them about it and it should be remedied by the team creating the problem because it's a false positive"
"Well we need to solve it still"
- "We would've solved it already but it has dependencies with other projects that we're still working on because we don't have enough people"
"We cant get you more people because we don't have the budget"
- "Then this stuff will have to wait"
"Get it done"
ACTUALLY SCREAMING! Why cant people understand that there are conesequences for their actions??!!1 -
Me: Can you do the javadocs comments
Coworker: I've never done that, *looks for it on google*, I can't do it, I don't know how.
Me: Did no one asked you to comment you code at school?
Coworker: Yeah, but only the ones with '//'
Me: Ok, bring me coffee1 -
Man, most memorable has to be the lead devops engineer from the first startup I worked at. My immediate team/friends called him Mr. DW - DW being short for Done and Working.
You see, Mr. DW was a brilliant devops engineer. He came up with excellent solutions to a lot of release, deployment, and data storage problems faced at the company (small genetics firm that ships servers with our analysis software on them). I am still very impressed by some of the solutions he came up with, and wish I had more time to study and learn about them before I left that company.
BUT - despite his brilliance, Mr. DW ALWAYS shipped broken stuff. For some reason this guy thinks that only testing a single happiest of happy path scenarios for whatever he is developing constitutes "everything will work as expected!" As soon as he said it was "done", but golly for him was it "done". By fucking God was that never the truth.
So, let me provide a basic example of how things would go:
my team: "Hey DW, we have a problem with X, can you fix this?"
DW: "Oh, sure. I bet it's a problem with <insert long explanations we don't care about we just want it fixed>"
my team: "....uhh, cool! Looking forward to the fix!"
... however long later...
DW: "OK, it's done. Here you go!"
my team: "Thanks! We'll get the fix into the processing pipelines"
... another short time later...
my team: "DW, this thing is broken. Look at all these failures"
DW: "How can that be? It was done! I tested it and it worked!"
my team: "Well, the failures say otherwise. How did you test?"
DW: "I just did <insert super basic thing>"
my team: "...... you know that's, like, not how things actually work for this part of the pipeline. right?"
DW: "..... But I thought it was XYZ?"
my team: "uhhhh, no, not even close. Can you please fix and let us know when it's done and working?"
DW: "... I'll fix it..."
And rinse and repeat the "it's done.. oh wait, it's broken" a good half dozen times on average. But, anyways, the birth of Mr. Done and Working - very often stuff was done, but rarely did it ever work!
I'm still friends with my team mates, and whenever we're talking and someone says something is done, we just have to ask if it's done AND working. We always get a laugh, sadly at the excuse of Mr. DW, but he dug his own hole in this regard.
Little cherry on top: So, the above happened with one of my friends. Mr. DW created installation media for one of our servers that was deployed in China. He tested it and "it was done!" Well, my friend flies out to China for on-site installation. He plugs the install medium in and goes for the install and it crashes and burns in a fire. Thankfully my friend knew the system well enough to be able to get everything installed and configured correctly minus the broken install media, but definitely the most insane example of "it's done!" but sure as he'll "it doesn't work!" we had from Mr. DW.2 -
I'm starting my first real/big project! I'm going to program a discord bot for my senior project with Python and I'm gonna have to do it in 25 days. the goal is to get it done in 15 and polish it more from there.4
-
- My task is dependent on a senior's.
- I wait for him to finish it for couple of days.
- Once done I went to test it, the value doesn't get updated, it turns out the value is static ... WTFFFFF!
- I assign him a bug task to fix it.
- My task is still pending.
- After couple of days, he assigns me the task of fixing it, with the excuse that he's busy.
Are you fucking serious !!?? What have I done in my life to deserve such senior? all I want is someone I respect and learn from .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·. .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·.5 -

Sometimes, being the only fullstack dev with access to a lot of systems gives you the ability to introduce functionality that:
A) prevents future errors
B) introduces new validations to users to make sure A) is prevented.
C) apply these changes to different projects
But most importantly...
D) without a single person in management getting involved or having to sign it off.
It's like running a company you own, but without owning it.
Granted with such power, comes the trust and responsibility of deploying changes with the adequate testing being done prior and handling change management, but fuck, sometimes I wonder if "god mode" for lack of a better term, is too much, or just enough to get the job done without the politics.7 -
That's it, I'm fucking done with this fucking bullshit of a year, really, everyone is fucking dying, just end already11

I often find that deadlines are "conjured up" with no bearing on the tasks at hand. It has to be done by this date because the Client goes to France for 2 weeks. Piss off.1

T: "So it'll be tested by tomorrow"
D: "Uhhhh wait"

I sent my Galaxy S9+ to repairs after someone scratched my fingerprint sensor.
It came back with "repairs done" but the only thing they apparently did was a software update, the sensor still has a scratch in it, and it still goes haywire when I try using it.4 -
So I was finally done with the project, every feature was implemented the way I wanted it be, every piece of code optimized and well written, I was completely satisfied with my code and didn't feel the urge to add a "last little feature/optimization"...

Then I woke up 😭😭😭2 -
Me : "Hey, your class is internal, I can't call it remotely"
Other team : "Oh okay, wait *change it to public* Done, you can call it now"

Other team : "*switch back*"
Okay then, I guess it's a way to say "Fuck you" with commits2 -
met a client yesterday to discuss about the coming task. After discussion, we agreed that I will develop the API for the system in one month. I did the planning and posted the upcoming tasks in Trello. Today, he told me some of the tasks have been done by his staff and asked me if I can continue the remaining tasks and get it done in one week. Hey, bro, what you want!? it is not what we agreed! do you think i can understand the code that your staff wrote, with poor documentation and structure, in few hours and immediately start working on it, yet deliver everything with high quality? come on...5

Monday morning: The last straw.
After talking about in a previous rant about how my client wants to fix bugs that keeps popping out after bug fix.
Today I discovered, that all C-levels, worked all Saturday to "fix my code" because it "didn't work" and we "needed bug fixes not pretty things".
The app version I was working on for the last week is gone. Without mentioning that their "CTO" wrote a fucking crappy code to disable features that I added, breaking the build step.
This shit is enough for me, I'm done!3 -
Setup git push notifications (to each of their own channels), together with automatic deployment via webhook, though I'll add notifications to that too, as it currently doesn't have any besides the log file.
Gitea really has been a blast for me to finally get all things git - done, maybe because it is just so lightweight.6 -
Team estimated a huge feature with 60 days. Made a prototype in a day, implemented it in the project the next day. Code looks a lot cleaner than a previous similar solution.
Now it’s 90% done. Should have worked with 2 other people. Oh well, sorry not sorry for that teamwork.3 -
I fucking hate developping on windows😡😡.
Since I use linux it's a pain in the ass to work with windows in developping related stuff. Nothing works.....Or the last day it worked and then it just thinks like "fuck you, I really like to screw all the work you've done in the last hours over"
Come on...10 -
Hired a friend who is kindoff a spoiled brat. If me or the rest of the team tell him anything he answers with the team does not know enough to tell him what to do. The slightest words (why is it not done yer etc. seem to trigger his ego and threaten to resign). His skills are also not what i thought they were , they get the job done but thats pretty much it. Should i work to placate his ego or let him resign.10

For the coming few months, refactoring my entire life. Everything will be redone with modularity in mind. So far it seems to be working well. Once the foundations are stable, I could start focusing further on the development of my Linux distribution. Hopefully that'll be done soon.6

Project with a single developer. Main automation used daily by 50% of the team past few years.
...
git server setup? done
hands on workshops? done
invited to ask more questions/for assistance? yes
....1 month later....
Q: Why haven't you pushed your code to the repo? Did you encountered any issues?
A: Why it has to be in the repo when the source code is available on my computer and I copy it into shared folder from time to time?
Everything is set up and was served on a silver plate. I would even assist with the commits before they get used to using it. More than half a year have passed. Yet the source codes are nowhere to be found.4 -
My team lead be like when we're in a meeting with the boss:
He: I'll have a working session with her, we'll brainstorm on how to come up with a better design and improve such and such feature, once that's done, we would call you to have another meeting.
Boss: sounds good, I'm looking forward to it.
Me: *internally rolls eyes...*
He: thank you everyone.
.
*meeting done*
.
.
.
couple of minutes later, I get a message from him:
He: hey, it turns out I'm busy and I can't have that session with you, do come up with a new idea/design and share it with me.
Me: .... *fuck you, like you didn't know you were busy before making that fake promise*
.
.
.
The fucker will take credit again for things he didn't do.8 -
After two weeks with Ubuntu - I'm done with this. I'm going back to Windows.
Why? Well, it fixes some Windows problems, but at the same time new ones are popping and they are even bloody worse.10 -
I have the bad habit of programming without initializing a Github repo or by the time I upload it to Github I’m either done or close to done with it.
It’s not necessarily a terrible thing it’s just a pet peeve of mine.6 -
fuck me. I started the night with the question "what are classes, in JavaScript?", did a lot of reading, and just came to the conclusion "religious colonialism.", and I didn't even read a single Crockford essay.
I'm just going to give up, go learn Haskell, get a lambda tattooed on my ass, and be done with it. -
What is the best project you've done with a Raspberry Pi? Got my model 3 a month ago and was thinking of turning it into Jasper. However I'd like to consider more options before starting it.
Thanks in advance12 -
I was done arguing with people about undefined and implementation defined behaviors and what the standard is. I had to make this after someone told "which standard book are you talking about? Which university teaches it?"3
-
Finding out you've done a project wrong because you completely misinterpreted the direction you got at the start and your brain took it in a totally different direction and having to start over again with it is lots of fun. I recommend it to everyone.1
-
"you got all that done in a day?"
that's what happens when you work *with* your framework instead of against it1 -
"Ohhhh, I would love to try Android, but it is sooooo ugly..."
How to deal with an apple fanboy saying something like this every time I mention that apple could done better(their software or hardware)

I can't wait until I hand in my resignation to become a pen tester, I'm interviewing next week! I'm done with development. Don't really have any message here, but felt like sharing it regardless.8
-
I mean, I really, really like Linux, don't get me wrong but I don't know if it's my Pi or something I've done but I've always gotten issues with it after a few weeks/months.
Everything will flow smoothly until it crashes, and it won't start the x server, and pretty much everything tells me there is a segmentation fault. A fresh install fixes the issue but I also loose all the stuff I've done with my previous install. Really annoying and I haven't found a definitive answer as to why this happens.
Oh well.7 -
My Deepin DE on Arch... I am working on i3wm with a polybar or a conky... Will post it if and when its done... Running on a busy schedule nowadays9
-
Me: oh boy i have so much fun stuff planned for this weekend, better get my work done before it
My immune system: here have this flu with some pink eye on top2 -
Being kept up for the entire night.
You ask yourself what is keeping you awake, after all you need to meet with a client about presenting what they ordered from you.
Did you debug it? Yes.
Did you back it up incase something happens? Yes.
Did you get it done in the correct time period? Yes.
Did you export it in the format they had requested? Shit. -
Is it bad that I'm excited about going back to work from tomorrow?
Like, I haven't even done jackshit throughout the break, and so it won't be easy jumping back in with both feet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯7 -
when you're supposed to be pushing something live but you got the poops and need to run to the bathroom. then the client calls when you're sitting there on devrant halfway done with your business and you answer pretending you're pushing it live.2

IM DONE
BORED WITH WRITING CSS
Don't get me wrong. it's a beautiful styling language. I know how to use it, I've been even teaching it.
I'm just damn bored writing css
writing a ".", then a damn class name, "{}" and "color:shit"
BRO IM DONE

STATUS: "DONE WITH WRITING CSS"

When a ticket comes in I usually jump right on it, get about half way done with it, then either get stuck or it's lunchtime/end of day.
I really should take the gifs advice.5 -
Currently working with @Kreischo and another good friend to create a secured, encoded container to store files in it.
I am currently working on the frontend of things, thinking it's quite beautiful.. (Done with Electron)
Your opinion?25 -
Bought a new 1TB ssd from Intel for my laptop. The installation of the drive itself went perfectly, it works like a charm. But then I had to do a clean install of windows and ubuntu, and that's where things went wrong. The drive still works perfectly, but everything else has fallen apart. I've been fighting with them the whole working day and haven't got anything work related done. Well, a few more hours and I can head home and continue the installation with a few cold beers, that should help getting it done ;)1
-
Freelance client calls freaking out because she needed the website changes done by yesterday morning because she had some huge meeting with potential investors....
I feel bad but I don't, she never told me anything about needing it done by Sunday morning.
This is exactly why I hate freelance work. Lack of communication and then they blame you5 -
Client: We want all of this done with only this "Web Stack" because everyone else in the industry is licking its balls, Just get it done, we need a taste of it too.
Me: lick mine instead?14 -
I just did a weird thing... I am used to ++ with a double tap... So, I am on relay for Reddit and like the post and I double tap it expecting an up vote. What have you done to me devRant???
-
At last !!
All projects are done!
Done 3 compiler project (with 3 separate documentation)
And 6 different Algorithms for algorithm design and analysis.(including my own project)
Been coding so hard to finish them ontime and now I made it :)1 -
Am I the only one who frequently forgets to hit the insert key again when I'm done with it and then go and accidentally overwrite some other stuff unintentionally?4

I see more and more people encouraging people to learn Haskell. But why ? What can you do with it, that you would not do with another language? what have you done with haskell?7

Father's friend ask if I'm gonna open printing and scanning press when I'm done with IT degree.
I said yes to avoid been his tech support1 -
Well done Microsoft
You’ve transformed a product MS Excel from something great into something unusable ..endlessly over designing it with needless fucking icons everywhere…
Just leave it THE FUCK ALONE from 20078 -
Have to present a school project I've been working in for three weeks with my team.
My part of the presentation is done, my part of the project is done.
The fucking sysadmin doesn't have his fucking part ready...
ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS SET UP A FUCKING WEBSERVER, IMPORT A DATABASE, EDIT THE HOST FILE AND WRITE A SMALL 2 PAGE DOCUMENT ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE.
Each of the 4 "roles" within the project need to present their own part, guess whose part of the presentation isn't there...
I am so fucking done with this guy and 2 others in the team...
I just don't get how you can spend 1000's of € per year on uni and then not take it seriously. -
My reward for understanding this thing is an early night. Time for bed :) remind me not to submit this assignment with the comments still in it. As I have done before.3
-
Starting to feel like shit about my new job. Every task my boss gives me I return with a "sorry it can't be done" for one reason or another. At first it was because user interface testing is a nightmare, then it was because the API postman tests he wanted is for endpoints we haven't exposed so it can't be done and the automated login on postman and retrieval of cookie information can't be done through postman because it requires rendering the site in a browser. I feel worthless to the company but I also feel he keeps making up tasks for me without checking if they're actually useful to us or even possible first, rather than let me touch any of the real code.. I don't know if I should just quit tbh.15
-
Someone stole my CC number and paid a bunch of spam ads on FB with it tonight. When I woke up and blocked it, there's been already 400€ worth of transactions done with it :(
But the real rant is that it took 3 fucking hours before I managed to get in contact with someone at FB who could actually help me. Fuck those AI chat bots & "Tenk yu kom agan" support guys!9 -
Just love it when the client discloses their requirements in phases. M sitting here with the complete stack waiting for him to come online and fuck me a little more as he discloses the next phase. Client's done this 3 times already. Fuck that asshole.
-
I hate programming as a profession, I'm done with it. Tried switching jobs, tried all the frameworks, tried different work environments, tried working less, but I don't wanna fool myself anymore. I fucking hate it.
Not sure where I'm going with this, just had to type it out somewhere.7 -
I've finally got a monitor at work that works with Samsung Dex.
Positive things:
- new super cool monitor
- can remove windows now from the dual boot of the laptop since everything I needed it for can be now done on Dex.
Negative things:
- DevRant doesn't work with Dex. It just doesn't load properly. But maybe it will work through a browser. Need to test...3 -
When you have a great idea for an app, then find out that someone already done it and with the same name.
My idea is way better than the existing one though... I just need to think of another name.1 -
So my company is now giving us flexibile work hours, but we still gotta do 9 hours a day, of which 1 can be outside the office. Wouldn't it be easier to just make it an 8 hour-day and be done with it?2
-
- have a look at the project
- brake it down into smaller stories
- estimate the time
- multipy it with 1.5
- add 1-3 days of testing
- add 15% project management
- add a 2 days buffer
= be happy with being done in 2 weeks, present it in 4 -
Passed my fucking Type Theory exam!
This course gave me stomach ulcers during the semester but I am done with it finally...
I just wanted to share with someone. :)4 -
I'm sorry, but I'm so fucking done with Hinglish.
I wish tutorials that merge the two have an indication of it in their titles.3 -
I fell on the floor with my laptop in the company provided laptop sleeve inside a laptop bag. Now it has a ugly bend at the end. Can anything be done about this?17

Fucking managers
Now I know why companies with shitty managers don’t grow
Me conversing with my senior as to how to make one of our functions scalable which around 10k devs would be using.
Manager walks in
Manager: how’s function x going
Me: great , will be done soon
Manager: you need to finish it by today
Me: can’t do it , too many sub functions need to be reconfigured( which was his job)
Manager: take *insert some managers asslicker’s name*’s help
Me: okay
We will finish it by today , but everybody know how “robust” the output will be
P.S. I didn’t argue because I’ve done that before and it’s like hitting your head on a wall. If you have read my previous rants, you would know1 -
compile with gcc, ./a.out: "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"
compile with clang, ./a.out: runs and fails.
compile with cc, ./a.out: Alternated between "Error: Too many arguments" and "Segmentation fault"...
ffs I'm done for the week I guess.
The problem is not that it fails, the problem is that it alternates because of time of compilation, power consumption, random blody oracles or the phase of the moon in a leap year on a Friday the 13th. God.Please.Send.~Nudes~. Help.rant clang afraid to use other compilers compiler argp linking what is that cc gcc subliminal segmentation faults stumble12 -
I hate Eclipse.
I have the Student membership for a year but I can't use IntelliJ for my project because I HAVE to use Eclipse.
I'm around 80% - 90% done with my project, so I guess I won't have to deal with it much longer.3 -
slacked off on friday on something i had to deliver. did it today in about two hours just to get done with it. motivation is weird4
-
If you're a recruiter approaching people on linkedin then don't be a fucking idiot and waste their time, get to the fucking point damn it!
No one's interested in going back and forth with you over email especially when you have their number and could be done with it over a phonecall.3 -
I hate React. I keep reading that people have problem of grasping it, but that's not the case for me. I get it, I understand it, but I hate with passion HOW it's done knowing how nice it's done elsewhere. What really triggers me is how ugly it looks, both from architecture and code level. To me it really say a lot when even code shown in documentation looks ugly, and while reading it you ask ourself constantly "why it's done this way?". When I read React being called an "elegant" solution something explodes in me. Did you saw Svelte? Vue? Damn, even Alpine.js?
I just cannot how overengineered this API is. Even doing simplest things there produces so much junk code written only because this is what library requires. Why? I feel like working with it is a punishment.
And scalability and maintainability? I've never seen large-scale projects more messed up than those wrote with React. And yes, you can blame teams working on them for lack of skills, but it is the library which encourages or not good practices also, and I've never seen such bad situation with other libraries/frameworks.8 -
... I really truly hate with a passion..
when you've agreed on one solution and when it's done, but not approved and deployed..
suddenly decides "oh it needs, x-y-z that I said it won't need"..
Mind you, that x-y-z things mean rewriting a lot of it...
Oh well, at least I get paid for the extra hours to be spent.1 -
!rant
I see GitHub is experimenting with radically new design principles. Today they've integrated a new background color for the navigation bar.
Do you think they've discovered that because GitLab's done, they can just do whatever they like?
Okay, it was a rant.2 -
When your favorite DJ comes to town but you cannot enjoy him playing live just because you don't have a girl to go with it.
I am done for 2016 already. This is so depressing. Guy J in town.19 -
A guy I work with on some projects is a know it all. when I ask him to get something done he drags his feet on it and instead keeps telling me about the "cool" things he did5

"In the beginning, God created Heavens and Earth. It was supposed to have been done in a week, but He had problems with some SaaS service providers and it ended up taking several billion years"
My one-week-task haven't got to a billion years (yet), but it was EXCLUSIVELY due to SaaS providers going bananas and not solving SHIT with their own shitty problem-making solutions.14 -
If you are a new employee tasked to work with Java, C#, C++ or whatever, choose a Windows PC. And don't get obsessed with having things that look nice, we all know the screen on apple products is awesome, but to get the job done especially if you are a programmer, it's a pain in the ass.
I see Mac owners daily struggle with this and that just to get some work done.
Of course we can start talking about virtual OS, dual boot and so forth, but does it really matter?
Nonetheless if your job is to build ios apps, then of course a Mac Book is a better alternative, but if most of your work is done with C#, then go with Windows PC because it fully supports Visual Studio.13 -
I like helping out on weird little projects that keep my brain fed. One of our IT guys needs a little form that can auto inject some info from a small data store (Google sheets). There's a few caveats within his specs. All can be done with some js relatively easily.
But because I said it can be done he thinks it'll take 10mins and now suddenly he's putting pressure on me to do it, despite me also having an actual job to do! So frustrating!2 -
ML Dude: “Hey see what I did with this python code. It is so clean and dope”
Business Boss: “Well Done.”
ML Dude: “It is a nice approach don’t you think.”
Business Boss: “How does this put a money in my business account?”
ML Dude: “Ehmmmm”2 -
i hate when people ask me what im doing when im done with school. mf i dont even think im gonna make it past my 20s11

Does anyone know how in Movies and TV shows do all those computer sites/software are done?
Like when we see a cia mission room for example, and there after agents running a face recognising and get 50 popups with information, or location some secret hide out place and super cool screen with 10 widgets show us location..
That can't be real.. But i have no idea how it's done.. is it green screen replaced later with fake video, or something similar? Please help, I MUST KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!!!!18 -
If I exploit ms server 2012 through a wifi hotspot , but logged in to someone else's account (assume it was sniffed) , and I do it using msfconsole connected to the tor with torify command , also I spoof my mac ,
will I stay 100% anonymous ?
If not , what can be done ?42 -
That feeling when you're finally done with a pretty big PR and ready to go live. You excitedly send it out to a few of your peers, and then... 20 comments! The real work has just begun 😭1

I'm a young dev with ADD. Basically I just need to stay up late, and then get myself to hyperfocus on my code. It typically gets done in time to get a decent night's sleep.1

Today i just decided to move to ubuntu 17.04 from windows 10, is it hard to get project done fast with ubuntu? I need some thought, because windows really pissed me off from the lagging retard.15
-
Today I’ve done nothing related to software development or coding.
You can do it too!
This will be my LinkedIn post, of course with a selfie in gym gear✌🏻
If you see my post scrolling, come on bring them thousands of likes😬6 -
Something that really grinds my gears recently is ”black boxes”. I get a dll to work with, completly without documentation and any desceiptions. An hour later people asks me, ”so hows it going, done yet?”.
No, im not done yet and I probably wont be in any near future you fucking morons, start documenting your fucking software as normal human beings.2 -
We had to finish a student project, our project leader had done some work on the project before and his algorithm to detect an event was complete bullcrap.
I took it in my hands to rewrite the algorithm with the risk that it doesn‘t work and i hadn‘t done any work i could show, which would result in a bad grade.
Luckily my algorithm worked better in orders of magnitude and we managed to deliver on time -
No matter how much social skill improvement I do, it never makes meetings with non-tech leadership type people go as I expect. It is ridiculous how I have gotten so good at communicating, to the point where I can easily manipulate people, but they won't fucking have a straight conversation. Do non-engineers have an inferiority complex every time an engineer slips and says a technical term?
I just sat down in a meeting where I was grilled for answers, and when I went to explain the bigger principal that made them confused, they didn't want that much detail. Wtf? Just tell me you don't care and you want the job done, no need to pretend you want it done together just because you want it done now and your way.4 -
That feeling when you're almost done with your personal project using an entirely new language and framework :)) been working on it for the last 2 weeks. 62 commits in!!2
-
i am coding blindly cause i am not really sure how the function really works. thats how i get things done after 2 weeks. but at least it works out after a while. buuuut i just want to get this thing done uuuggghhh i need to do this faster!
mind please cooperate with me1 -
Is it common to be told by HR after an interview that they aren't following up with an offer, then poll you about your experience with the interview, and act like they did you a favor by granting you the opportunity to interview with them? Because if so, I think I am done with software.6
-
love it when client supports comes to me and tells me the entire conversation they had with a client when i just need wathever request they had. i could have been done with this feature in the time you took giving me 90% useless information.2
-
Is it weird that, despite the professional setting, when a client actually thanks us/me for swift/efficiently done job that I feel a little happier with myself?1

Affinity Designer export to SVG, normally an easy task for a vector programme.
Furthermore it is only a little picture, a clear eight filled with a single colour.
Result: SVG with an unbelievable file size of 98.7 kB. Holy shit!
Looked at it: The export made a huge long high scaled path... oh man...
Little hand made recoding, made four circles. Done. New size: 0.8 kB.
That's better.4 -
Today I wrote the most epic code.
The kind that breaks your brain, but when you're done with it you know it's time to go home and kick back coz you've done good.
It used recursion, did backflips to avoid unnecessary db calls, featured no code repitition. Hell I even commented the business rules it was following in there to explain what was happening.
I hope it works tomorrow when I test it 😂😂😂5 -
What the f*** is this gradle in Android Studio??
M getting tired with this error. Whenever m starting studio it stuck on waiting for build to finish project.. I already done with checking offline work still it's not working.. What the f*** should I do with this error??9 -
The funny thing is that a lot of stuff feels cool when it's not you doing it. Once you've learned it, done it, it becomes mundane, easy, boring, simple.
All that I have to go on is the memory of my naive self who thought something was cool, before me doing it, and the excitement of the moment, to have done it. After that it feels like boasting to a fireman about putting out a candle with 2 wet fingers. -
AI based epidemiologist with a simulator support to rerun it's experiment. It can identify trends in epidemic arrivals and provide solutions to stop it. Advantage will be faster and safer experiments, which is now done manually.

You are almost done with your project. And lowest version of IE it needs to works on is 10 and that makes you happy! That means you are getting old because you remember the IE 6 days.1

I'm interning and working on something above my skill level and it works for the most part but I think I may have done it completely wrong for like the past week :') everyone is on paid vacation and I'm just sitting here like a baby bird with a broken wing

Pls no anger if it doesn't do exactly what it is supposed to. I am frail.2 -
My top 3 open source projects are :
KDE ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Libinput gestures (allows you to do custom actions with your touchpad)
Strapi (Wich is a nodejs headless cms that gets the job done very quickly I haven't tested it in prod tho)1 -
I'm not even done with this code and I am already dreading maintaining it. There is so much magic.1
-
Once I was using rsync to copy some large files from a cloud to my local machine. So right after I started it, I went out for some coffee and when I came back it was not done. And to my horror I forgot to use --progress. For people who don't know what it does is , it only shows you how much copying is done. So now after about 45 mins of copying done , I had to stop it start all over again with --progress so that I can see the progress as it completed. 🤔2
-
Attending in a local game jam with some friends.
One of the team members wrote the worst code I've ever seen. After him realizing that it's buggy as hell he left to sleep having me fixing his mess at 4 am to somehow get something done by the end of the event.
It resulted in me rewriting nearly everything he had done.
Guess which team didn't manage to have something playable in the end...1 -
I am so done with these “Top *insert a number*” websites that use slides to show items and every time you go to the next slide it loads another page. Why can’t they just use one of the thousands of javascript frameworks and load the page once?!?!1
-
I've done it! No more secondary projects this time. Whole Christmas spent with family and casual stuff. Have you also succeed?5
-
How do you deal with managers/co-workers asking you the task status every hour? They keep on asking, is this done? is this done? It pisses me off to no end. Does anybody know how to handle this without being overly snarky?15
-
With the invention of pip every project done with python just fucken angers me. Like mostly nothing fucken works if there is a single .py file in there. You can put your easy-install.sh up your ass if it just ~tries~ to install shit via pip before because IT WONT WORK FUCK THIS SHIT!
STOP USING PYTHON FOR PROJECTS YOU RELEASE PLS CUS SHITS UNREADABLE AND WONT WORK ON MY MACHINE. MAKE ROOM FOR PROJECTS MANAGED BY NPM OR SHIT LIKE THAT WHERE `npm install` ACTUALLY DOES IT'S JOB THANKS I'M ANGRY AF.
WHAT DOES COLLECTING EVEN MEAN AND WHEN IS IT DONE DUDE?!5 -
Sick of fucking working with 'engineers' who cannot see that the piece of shit application that they have written is not 'done' until it has been tested. No it is not production fucking ready you fucking yes man.

I'm so done with auth
it's more than a nightmare
it's a disgrace
why can't someone just be like "you know how auth and identity is hard? why don't we make it easy?"
I would pay so much for that9 -
My dad was using notepad to edit some HTML for his website. I downloaded Visual Studio Code and he likes it SO MUCH MORE. (I wonder why....).
Kinda happy I could help him with it. He is pretty good at coding but just hasn't done it in a while (not his trade) so he doesn't know all the new tools and such.3 -
"Smart" working doesn't mean stay online for 8 hours straight but at a different desk.
It means "be smart about your work" - if I'm done with my work then I'm f***ing done with my work.6 -
Anyone else hate the phrase "as soon as possible" with a passion from the mouth of a client? I feel like saying it'll be f*cking done when it's done. Yes you're important but so is everyone else. Be patient, you only asked me to do it 3 hours ago. Just because of that, you've now gone to the back of the queue.4
-
You can't have a boss like this: I was assigned to a job that has been delayed for 5 months; It has to be finished by Tuesday. the development team is done with what is necessary, but I don't like this situation2
-
"Orient your UI around the job to be done — around the problem — and not the person. Then people who have that problem can fall in love with your product because it makes the problem go away, whether they are the first in line or the last person to hear about it." - Ryan Singer

I have finally done a crash course on ChatGPT. And what I discovered was that, it is basically Google with straight forward answers. It is a handy tool to use and get familiar with.3

I don't like when maintainers ask me how their module works in review. >:c
It always works me up a little bit.
And when people spawn process for something that can be done with unistd. >>:(
I think it's not professional. -
Recommendations for growing a new open source project? I'm all ears if anyone has done or has any thoughts on this as my company just open sourced our Flutter mobile app since it lines up with platform values.
I'm also super excited 😍4 -
I really want to decouple classes from each other, but I also want to decouple them from any specific DI container, so this is what I came up with. Factory methods passed as arguments.
Is this bad? how would it be better done?2 -
That's it I'm done with wordpress.

Introducing the new: Sideproject finisher! You asked for it, DevRant, and unlike you - we finished it!

Me vs. Code Moocher:
CM: Hey, did you do the Chapter 6 homework?
Me: Did You...?
CM: Yes... (with confidence but an odd pause) But it doesn't work.
Me: Sorry I'm not done with it either I can help you.
I hate people like this. He could've asked me for my help or waited to ask the Prof.
But he outright asked for my work. It wouldn't be the first time.
FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF MOTHERFUCKER!!!4 -
Every time I pick up a ticket, it turns out to be a duplicate and another engineer is already working on it or it already is done. So I close the ticket and collect the story points. (Yes, morally correct would be to close it as duplicate with 0 SPs.)7

Today I found out something called Alpine.js. And I absolutely love it. It is really easy and simple to make apps with it. A simple to-do list app that I done just now is a HTML file with only 30 lines.2
-
Fell in love with it in high school but I had a strong bond with computers and technology early on. Done some C programming there. Had a project in ASP, Access and JavaScript. Old times 😃
-
When you're done with your side of a project but you're waiting on other people.... Then you're the one that still gets bitched at by Mr. CEO man. Piss off, I've done my part. No I can't just upload it the way it is, no I won't upload it the way it is. Go tell the other spit fucks to get me their shit so I can finish the project.1

Is sleeping on your desk an actual thing which happen or it is a misconception provided by movies?
I have never slept on my desk no matter how tired I am (I had done a week coding marathon) .I always wrap myself with fluffy blanket when sleeping.10 -
Enjoying the hacktoberfest. Thank you guys for ranting about it. Or else I wouldn't have known about it. Done with the 4 PRs. Still looking forward to contribute more.
-
Same sh*t different day. Let me play with my pet project! I know it does not earn me anything, but hey it will make millions in the future once it's done! I am sure! :D2
-
So after 3 months of working ( which implies a 2h trip from home to get to the office ), going to college ( another 1h from home to get there ) and making a thesis to get a fucking Bachelor degree. I'm kind of done with everything except the job. I mean, I can't focus seriously in anything besides coding. So my question for you guys is, How do you get the important stuff done even if you don't wanna do it ?

Create-react-native-app is fucked up.
React-native init works but when i install react-navigation, it removes react-native, then I install react-native again and it removes react-navigation.
I'm done with react-native, moving to NativeScript.1 -

Do devranters think that Reason(ML) is too late to the game to compete against TypeScript...or can it ride React success to become more than a niche?
Personally I like it, but, like with F#, I don't enjoying the lack of resources every time I need to get something done.7 -
Most hacky things I've ever done:
A windows scheduled task that kicks off a massive as fuck ETL job, riddled with errors. Damn thing had a mind of its own and only ran whenever it felt like it. Client was happy, deadlines were met, boss moved me to another task. -
I fucking fall in love with night every time it gets my things done! I am super amazed that any problem which I wasn't able to solve couple of hours ago seems easy as soon as world sleeps. :)

SharePoint. Never used it directly but this far every project that the company has done with it results in us having to rewrite it using traditional technologies several months later.
-
whenever I think I am almost done with coding something, and go like "yeah, I can totally finish this the next day within just a few hours. Just add 1-2 functions and done" - it ends up being the opposite. I either realize how many things I didn't think and implement through and end up adding lots of things or I come up with a different approach to things which seems better and have to rework half my stuff...
I guess this will get fixed with experience.
Until then, I guess I'll keep trolling myself. -
Manager asked me to create a spreadsheet showing tasks in a project with percentage complete to send to client.
Sounds easy, even though I prefer JIRA, I created spreadsheet with all tasks and asked each developer responsible to fill in percentage done.
But I did it completely wrong. I have to give estimate for how long it took for each task and make sure total complete is 70 percent and number of days add up to 10. WTF guess the estimate to match the total. And this is how you teach me project management.
Did I mention that all this is happening after most of the project is done?1 -
It always irritates me whenever I try to find solutions for my coding problems in angular typescript alot of resources available in jQuery and JavaScript. In the end I have to invent my own solutions. It would have been done with jQuery and JavaScript easily!1

Hey, first time poster :-)
Working alone on a C++ app that has to control a GUI, camera and electronics on the side... but between the test cases, switching between classes and helping colleagues on unrelated issues, I find it hard to keep track of what connects with what, what needs to be done, what IS done...
So, how do you guys and girls keep track of your projects ? Stuck with To-do lists for now ^^6 -

Have you ever been there when you write some code with everything you know and it still throws an error in the end when everything is said and done, you go ahead and do a last stupid thing that you know is not going to work but, WOAH... It worked. Then you didn't even bothered to know why, instead you were like, fuck it, if it works, IT WORKS!!!4

The previous opened tab all is gone.2 -

That feeling when you know there’s work to be done, and a deadline to do it by... yet you can’t muster the motivation and you’d rather just play video games.
I suppose at least with contracting from home I have the option of taking a break like this so long as the work gets done on time. I mean, if I was in an office I’d just be dicking about online. -
*Creates a random .NET core console application on windows*
Alright, I've created this in Dropbox til I get some traction with it..
*Edits a few things, saves project and syncs files then open's project on mac later that night*
And some more progress, brilliant, save and done..
*Turns on pc next day and see's dropbox taking 80% CPU usage and %20 disk usage*
What the fuck! Ok ctrl alt delete to the rescue!
*Notification pops up saying Dropbox deleted over 20, 000 files*
Well... Aren't we off to a fucking great start .NET Core...
(Yes I know I can get all files back, done and done and can't actually 100% pin it down to .NET Core..) -

Needed to setup the database for the web app on one of our Raspberry pis...
Gave the group's sysadmin the sql file and told him to tell me when he was done so I could change the connections in the app. - < two days ago
While he was supposed to take care of it I continued developing the app.
Today I went to ask him what was up with the db, said he wasn't able to import.
This guy, didn't read the error, didn't tell me about it, asked no-one for help and just went back to YouTube for two fucking days.
I'm so done with group projects1 -
A friend who's working as a contractor for a huge client decided to rewrite their interface cause it's old and not user friendly with new tech. Fast forward the client said it's not what they asked for, he should'nt have done that and they'll not be using it. He replied: "I've done it for myself to be up to date. I found a new company here's my resignation".1

Fuck the traffic jam I'm dealing with every damn day since two fucking months. It takes 1,5 fucking hours to geht the fuck home from work. I'm done with public transportation. My favourite tool currently is Gulp, although that sentiment is slowly eroding as I integrate it into a project that is 10+ years old and follows few standards with regard to css and javascript files. At least it is a quiet period in my workplace at the moment and it will improve development workflow when I'm done3

I'm switching from that thing that is 'almost done' to another thing that was also 'almost done' months ago... and now going to spend some hours just getting reacquainted with it.

It is quite a hard pick either generally coding with friends for fun or getting my first ever program done completely by myself (and I don't mean Hello world but rather my first small 'project') . But I'd probably go with my first ever program. Even though retrospectively the code is let's say not that great, it was still an awesome learning experience to actually create sth working out of code
-
I'm interning at a mech eng company. Our products have many possible permutations that customers can choose from a spec sheet.
The backend for us mechanical designers is equivalent to copying and pasting the same code (with slight changes) into a massive switch statement depending on the program's options. So many near duplicate drawings. Each with individual settings that need to be tweaked and linked to other new duplicates every time a new order comes in.
As a programmer it drives me absolute bonkers! I've talked to them about automating it but "we've just always done it this way, so it probably won't change". Well, as soon as I'm done grinding this current project, I'm hoping to put together a practical demo to change their minds.2 -
Having a tight deadline and management keeps on adding developers with zero domain knowledge to get it done.
You should have seen my managers face when i asked him if he bakes a cake twice as fast if he doubles his ovens temperature. -
Estimate how long it will take you then double it. After that split the project into milestones and add the days you give a client to accept the milestone. If you have a good client you will get done early and refund them the difference. Otherwise you get paid well for dealing with a dumbass.
-
When you are virtually done with a story and then merge trunk and discover that something fundamental has changed so you need to basically rewrite half of it. You spend ~2 hours refactoring about 8 classes and their tests before realising that this way wont work either. So you have to rewrite it again.....

During a stand up meeting, boss turns up to us and says: "Who can stay later today?" Many hands rise. Turns up to new dude, who isn't performing that well: "that performance report automation, it is due tomorrow now. Fuck it. Get it done." Left at 21:30 from the office with an MVP but I usually arrive at 7:00 so I was fucking exhausted. Now, my question is: who am I supposed to be pissed off? The boss who went apeshit on the new dude or the new dude that isn't getting shit done?4

There is a element in mappView that lets you display a specific image from a list based on a index. It has the parameters selectedImageIndex and selectedIndex. One is used to set the other to read. Its not like that you need RW separation. Its done with variable binding. So why the FUCK is it there????2

My week is up with Linux , im back on windows I tried about 10 variations 🙄
Best I could get was manjaro with KDE
It was pretty close to what I was looking for but I still have to install some of the programs I need using command line 🙄 how do they not have installers for them yet ... Crazy maybe they do.
I need a virtual machine which is fine I can still use my graphics so it's fast! Play games etc
But it crashed and died.
Not only that but every version of Linux.. it felt 🤔 shitty like the mouse was bolted tight to the screen and only heavy movement would do anything . Yes I have high mouse sensitivity (very high) but it feels sooooo rigid
Here's the thing I like what Linux is trying to do... It's just horrifically executed the learning curve to extreme and there is no central this is how you do it. With good reason yes but if you give someone to many choices they can't decide and give up and I think that's the only reason Linux isn't winning . It's to complicated.
Android is the only Linux OS I love manjaro did well .
But android is simple effective and does what it's meant to without any help
All other Linux os' are .. developerised as in only a developer really truly stand a chance to grasp it no normal folk out in the world.
People say Linux doesn't have long left to go... To me it seems like they are still miles off no closer then 5 years ago.
That was my experience at least ...7 -

Rough start to the morning. Working with a partner in a Power BI scenario. He uses forums, over research, to find how to map IP to latitude/longitude. Naturally our mangager wants this done as short as possible so I stay back a few hours and get it done.

That time when you are taking about personal projects with other developers and their past frustrations come into the project discussion all of the sudden. Like, I just wanted to communicate about this great idea I got with other developers, not about how it cannot be done, or how someone else thinks I cannot get it done. I can stand this happening the first 1000 times, but not the next 10000 times.
I feel that this happens to other people as well, but there is just no talk about it anywhere.3 -
Story of my life in the office
I work my ass off and get the job done, almost 4 to 5 hours before my shift ends. And then I casually sit with other colleagues and chat a bit.
And my boss comes in and says you have no work ethics and are lazy.
And i'm like you fucker I got my job done, why can't you see that. I doesn't mean that my job is easy if I get it done before time. I just means that i'm more fucking efficient then the other employees. While the other employees were gossiping, I was on my desk working. Why can't that fucker see that.
Not to mention as I get my job done before time, I get burdened with other people's work, coz apparently they are overloaded with work.

I created a custom interface for an LMS that allows students to see their marks even if they haven't been 'shared' yet by their teachers. This is all done without accessing any unauthorized apis, as the LMS always returns all student marks and then hides the ones with a False 'shared' key. School administration caught me, so I've now shut it down. I have a meeting with the deans tomorrow. Any advice? (Again, this is all done using existing methods found within this LMS)4

I recently refactored a form with complex client side interactivity for one of my clients replacing jquery with vuejs in the process and I'm absolutely baffled by how easier it is to reason about everything when you think of the UI as a function of the state. Only devs who have done both imperative and declarative DOM manipulation at some point in their life can understand the joy of doing this. And all of this can be done with just a simple script tag without having to bring in complex build process that has plagued the Javascript ecosystem.

Hi guys so I have a fairly simple spring boot backend with mongodb. I am starting out with this setup for my app. I dint choose something like firebase because it will lock me into their ecosystem.
My question is can initially just run my backend with Digital ocean droplet or I need dedicated hosting?

If not digital ocean then which one? Vultr, hetzner, linode, aws lightsail?

The constant re-explanation of how stuff should be done, whether it's business logic or even in simple programming itself. When it comes to developers, I find myself repeating myself a lot simply because they can't be bothered to understand what business rules are needed as all they want to do is just code a solution and get it over and done with.
