Today I learned how to use curly braces in Python for those coming from C style programming languages. I love that this was the accepted answer.10

When you fuck something up with a customer and you very nervously apologize and they come back with 'apology accepted, we both learned something out of this!'
Thank you dear sir 😅👌2 -
Searched stackoverflow and found the exact issue I was having. The question is from 2014.
The accepted answer is a messy hack. Fuck.
The second answer is clean, clear, concise. It was posted 38 minutes ago.
Is this real life?9 -
First internship: accepted within two weeks, only got to do Google translating and fired after five weeks for bs reasons.
Grade: bad.
Second internship: accepted right after the interview. Rewrote websites to their newest cms, not that fun sometimes but alright.
Grade: pretty alright.
Third internship: was accepted without asking after a successful pilot program from my study. Designing and developing a huge back end system, done some smart light bulb hacking and get to solve server problems.
Grade: Great! Just one little thingy: they said I should stop doubting myself because "you're a great dude and programmer!"
It's getting better and better!3 -
Other people : she said yes :') :')
Me: the client accepted the first draft without asking for changes :') :')2 -
Boss: if I could put together a counter offer, is that something you might be interested in?
Me: eh, no. I’ve accepted an offer for slightly less money than I’m on
Boss: oh ... oh ok. Right so there’s nothing I can do?
Me: afraid not. You can’t offer me a role not dealing with those people in the states, having to use their shitty custom tools or having to follow their bad practises all day.
Boss: ok ..... shit9 -
I just finished my thesis defense, one of the committee members obliterated me with incredibly difficult questions but it was so much fun to respond to this 40min smackdown after presenting all my work in 50 minutes. The battle has been won ladies and gentlemen, I am incredibly happy.13

Picking up my kid in kindergarten, they asked if I had time to help fix the manager's computer. Internet wasn't working, at had been on the phone with support for 4 hours. I accepted the challenge, open prompt and typed "ipconfig /renew". Done. I walked out a rockstar.2

So many people are applying for computer science majors that it's making me nervous.
My classmates don't know shit about tech yet almost all of them are applying for CS. It's even the most popular ranked major in the US.
I don't think I stand a chance against them. They all have higher GPAs than me, and they participate in clubs and sports.
If those cave people get accepted I'm not going to be too happy about it.61 -
The awesome moment when a client claims that you are nothing but a script kiddy only minutes before you reveal a $1400 vulnerability on his site 😂4

Business idea: panties with HTTP status codes printed on them.
451 for our underaged customers - unavailable for legal reasons
411 to crush a man's self esteem - Length required
429 for girls with stalkers - too many requests
402 for our professional customers - payment required
And, of course, 202 - Accepted22 -
Holy fuck, the state of npm
Question: "How do I make a GET request in NodeJS"
Accepted answer: "Use the http library it has built in get functions, its quite simple"
I FUCKING KID YOU NOT, THE NEXT 10 ANSWERS: Use this npm library, it's super great ;)22 -
I swear 90% of people who apply for a dev job couldn't code to save their fucking lives.
Like wtf? You can't apply for a job as a commercial pilot, then turn up and announce you've never flown a plane before, so why is that accepted as being somewhat expected in development?
Fucking hell....9 -
So I got accepted as a mentor for Udacity's Front-end web development Nanodegree program. Although I only 4.5 my first week, seeing full 5 star rating excites me more than anything.3

Spotify just asked me for my ZIP code (to verify my family plan again after like a year).
I typed 00000 and they accepted that 🤔8 -
I applied for a job in a small gaming company. They rejected me by saying they can’t hire students.
I was cool with it because they didn’t waste my time and told me their decision right away. I started my own gaming company.
Fast forward 6 months later I went back with a business proposition. They accepted it. Its been 8 months now. Everything is going smooth.13 -
Just had chat with Microsoft support to solve a issue. I accepted remote session request. She did something and couldn't find proper a solution to my problem. Finally, she told a temporary solution and quit the chat.
When I was about to give feedback that she wasn't helpful, SHE CLOSED FEEDBACK WINDOW and then ended remote session. Lmao4 -

Always take the challenge.
Didn't know front end - took tasks that were front end oriented, took me longer but I learned.
Didn't know what goes on in the legacy code - took the tasks and dived right in the filth.
Fear the day the challenges will be over.14 -
Last year a random company hired me to develop an Angular app. One of the main requirements was that it needed to be compatible with IE6 cus thats what they were using internally... I accepted the offer...5
-
Damn you stackoverflow!
Why can't we declare an answer as outdated or deprecated or just plain out wrong!
I like that you have so many questions, yet when the correct solution is a 0-upvoted by a 0-rep user hidden at the very bottom between a huge amount of wrong answers and whereas the *accepted* yet wrong answer has upvotes that are skyhigh, it just wastes my time.
All that is achieved is a feedback loop enforcing a faulty answer will accumulate ever more upvotes. And waste somebody else's time in the future as well.
I cannot add the correct information, as that would harm the author's intent. I cannot edit the faulty answer to state that there is a better answer, as that would be an attempt to reply. I can downvote it, yet that just a tiny drop on a very hot stone.
All I can do is add a comment pointing to a correct answer, yet that is easily overlooked.
Come on, stackoverflow! This is madness!6 -
Finally, my boss accepted that I was not a professionnal front-end developer but an internship. FINALLY7
-
Just a common day.
I received a message on Telegram, a guy wanted a Minecraft plugin for his server.
It was a small plugin, he accepted my first offer of 15€.
After some hours, it was complete. I was pressing "Export" on my IntelliJ but a terrifying message arrived.
"Dude I forgot to say that, can you make it using C++? I heard EXEs are faster".
Fuck dumb clients especially Minecraft server owners!7 -
I accepted a job that requires coding in html, css, js and php and I don't code in those languages at all. Whoops.8
-
So my classmate just decided to write "printf("Suck my balls I dont remember how to do this);" in a programming exam and forgot to delete it before handing it in.
Well... after saying "sorry" like a hundred times the teacher accepted his apology.8 -
Had to take a test in C++. 2 questions, 2 hours. Totally messed up the second, then solved it in ~10 minutes after.
They accepted my second solution still. Luck was on my side. -
When your question on StackOverflow has more than 5 upvotes and an accepted answer with around 10 upvotes, and then some asshole moderator decides it is a duplicate and deletes it.3
-
so, I hate my job, they give me many tasks (many of tasks are not on my field) with no trainings and no time, plus a salary that is not that good.
I get angry, so I talked with the boss about leaving yhe company.
Well, our discussion ended up by convincing me to stay with the double of the salary.
So, I accepted the offer.
Don't know whether it's the right decision or not..9 -
Horrible interview story:
I was interviewed in a meeting room along with 2 other applicants at the same time. Our CVs were read to us in front of each other, and the questions were asked game show style where the fastest one answers.
It was terribly unprofessional and a huge red flag.
They wanted to give me a starting salary of 1000$.
Thankfully, I got accepted in another much better company before making a possibly huge mistake.6 -
Contributed to a open source project for the first time what hasn't been updated in 3 years and my pull request was just accepted!5

Today I had my first decent pull request accepted.
It wasn't the biggest problem, but it made a chrome extension not work, and the author and other users couldn't figure it out.
The author seems very chill and called me 'the man' and offered me a drink.
It felt nice.1 -
New dev: I need help with this issue. I've been debugging it all day.
*2 hours later*
Me: spent a while debugging it, eventually came across a stack overflow post that says you can't do that.
New dev: oh I saw that earlier, didn't think it applied.
Me: ... why ... accepted answer "It is not possible to do this, this way".
New dev: hhhmm, ok
... get the fuck out of this building immediately.3 -
Proud of being accepted in the devRant family ^^
EDIT: Not proud of messing the screenshot crop up :( -
Fired because an metric they used was too small (accepted tickets). My problem was: everyone of the others took imidiatly the tickets, just to have them "in progress".5

Why is skids trying so hard when it comes to talking shit about Windows? Do they think that is it the only way to get accepted into the GNU/Linux community?

My annoying 19-yo nephew wants to drop out of CompSci to "create the next billion-dollar startup".
I told him I would give him 10 rupees (USD 0.10) for 0.000000001% percent of his "pass me the butter at the diner table" company.
He accepted. Thus, his "heritage protein logistics startup" had an series-A valuation of a billion American dollars!

So, I just realised that a contribution I made to an open source project 12 days ago had gotten accepted 3 days ago. I'm so ecstatic over this!
I was basically just in need of type definitions for a javascript library, and seeing as it didn't have any, decided to make them myself. Done that, I made a pull request, but seeing as there was no changes after a few days, I forgot about it.
Now I just remembered about that, and wondered if it got any comments or anything, and it turned out that they had accepted my PR and it had already been put into a release 3 days ago
I can't contain myself right now, it was my first open-source contribution, and it just feels good to know that I somehow helped some people by giving them type definitions :D
Cheers1 -

My whole team like to develop the backend of a very complicated platform in python because it is fast to develop. And host the front-end under nginx. And run everything on windows. And without unit test.3

Just got accepted for a game developer. Ive been making games since I was 12 as hobby. Did a few months of university level of Game Development. Then started as web devloper professionally. The company I work for found a project as game dev for me.
I love my work and the sales team for finding me that job, even though its out of scope of their regular projects.2 -
That moment when you realize, you’ve accepted an overly complicated project with a deadline so short...1

DevRant truth: as a white man in my 40s, the only socially accepted (and taught when I was younger) coping mechanisms are smoking and drinking too much and other questionable life choices.

QA: “not accepted since text differs from specs.”
Me: “but... the text comes from specs, I copy pasted it yesterday, wtf?”
*checking specs versioning*
Specs updated 1 hour ago
Having to input text from jira to the language strings cause design’s too lazy to do it themselves is stupid enough, but the good old “specs changed after the feature is done” gig is a must... to remember you why you hate working for someone.13 -
fucking hate how some sites deliberately break their own scroll functionality if you haven't logged in/accepted gdpr nonsense/signed up for a newsletter.
It's such an easy fix (most of them just slap style="overflow:hidden;" to their <html> tag) but I still think it's very loathsome1 -
I officially got a call that i start a job from 15th december
That's my first job after graduating with a computer science degree, and it took exactly 421 days later.
This is depressing and sad. Im not even interested in starting a job. I hoped they will reject me just like the other 10,468 jobs. Im not used to getting accepted.
I have to finish my side project within these two weeks asap rn7 -
I got a new job! 🎉
I'll be starting next month.
I had two offers. The first company tried to offer me less than expected, but I was able to negotiate. But after some more consideration, I accepted the second offer.
[I have some more stories from my job hunt that I'll post later.]3 -
Hey, if you buy my algorithm and dont actually hire me (not that i would have accepted anyway), dont fucking spam my phone 2 months later to explain a fucking regression to your msc students who seem to have learned jackshit @ college.

I find it interesting to see how scenarios sometimes flip.
30 years ago, the generally accepted "best" thing to do when when interacting with a person of colour was to "not see colour" - to treat them as you would anyone else. Meanwhile the similarly accepted "best" thing to do when interacting with a physically disabled person was to recognise their disability, help them if appropriate, give them a boost, encourage them, etc.
Today it seems very much like the opposite. The correct thing to do when interacting with an ethnic minority is to see their colour, recognise their struggle, help them if appropriate, etc. - whereas with disabilities, that approach generally seems to have been labelled "inspiration porn", and the correct thing to do is simply not to see the disability, treating them like you would anyone else.
Not entirely comparable of course, but there's enough similarity there that I find the situation interesting.rant not trying to be ableist what are these tags for anyway i wonder how many tags i can add hmm tags dont stay in order long tags seem to be truncated not trying to be racist almond shut up random4 -
I was being interviewed by a tenured Java Dev for a position of android Dev in a big company. it was a glass walled cubicle, and I could see in the reflection that he was browsing stack overflow and asking me the questions. My answers, although correct, didn't match with the accepted answer in stack overflow. sigh. felt good to be rejected.1

1. Get offer on LinkedIn/Email
2. Respond politely and optimistically that you’re interested but would like to scale down you’re hours to 32 per week, changes in pay are accepted.
Result: 404 Not found
Expected result: I’m only human let me work part time pls6 -
Wtf is this shit .... why the hell is so much fees even accepted as normal

So I've got my first sort of proper gig. I'm tasked with writing...
A goddamn minecraft plugin in java.
Well, it's actually rather fun strangely enough. My ideas of payment were not declined but rather accepted, the other devs are nice and everything is going well for now.
Also: Do expect a mental breakdown post next week or so4 -
I recently got a project for scaling multiple wordpress sites for around 5k req/s
The biggest mistake I made is that even though it's wordpress I accepted it, fml!
Even aws load balancer gave up.5 -
Like someone else already mentioned here, remember that interview goes both ways: youre there to gauge wether workplace suits you or no. Always ask to meet teamleads/project leads or potential colleagues before accepting the job and try talking with them.
I applied to 3 jobs and in all of them managers did put a brave face and told me lots of bs just to get me accept the job. Managers live in their own world, sometimes they dont even know what you will be working on.
Once I accepted a job and got stuck with a perfectionist teamlead for 8 months which could have been avoided given I had the chance to catch the bad vibes during the interview.
Another time I accepted a job and had to work with a backend guy for one year and his accent was so thick+stuttering that I had trouble in understanding anything he says. Every conversation felt like trivia contest. I wish I had knew that stuff before accepting the job -
The best boss I ever had was my father .
He wanted a C# application for employee management with some specific features so I accepted and did the job. -
Accepted a feature request that practically doubled the workload without asking for more money, on account of trying to be fair to a customer who was working through a translator.
Only to get stiffed on 3/4 of the money agreed to in the first place.
Only saving grace was everything was on my servers, so I took him down for non-payment.1 -

It's funny to think that in a world where we keep telling ourselves that each of us are unique, we are always forced to follow societal norms. And I'm not just talking about stuff like sexuality, even people with small quirks have to bend themselves in order to be accepted by the masses...3 -

In my country (too embarrassing to mention), pirated software is so common and it is not considered immoral. It is widespread and secretly & socially accepted. . scrolled down a little bit

.
. You saw another answer with a higher upvote. Ooh lala, this is fucking cool. (You copied and replace your source again)
.
. scrolled down once again
.
. You noticed yet another answer which is the most recent and a lot shorter implementation of what you just copied. (No shit! You copied and replace your source yet another time)
.
. scrolled down for the last time maybe and it looks like the previous was the last.
. But then...
.
. you saw a comment with lots of upvotes even more than the accepted answer and this comment points to a link.

. You clicked the link with your mouth salivating waiting to see what holds at the other side of the world which amount this so much upvotes.

I know it's not that impressive in the dev world, but I'm finally making six figures (the lowest six figure value possible but STILL) and I can't really brag to my friends about dollar amounts so HURRAH. Accepted the offer yesterday, and I'm quite pleased about it.
Annoyed that it took so long (I'm 29), but I did have a two year long career break for a family medical issue/travel/quarter life crisis, so so it goes.10 -

I fucked up on my grad school essay by sending them the PDF of my college-specific paragraphs. All of them, yes.
To correct said fuckup, I attached the actual essay, but with a college-specific paragraph meant for another school.
However, I imagine that they saw the wrong essay and then went to the paragraph list and saw the paragraph meant for them?
I MADE TWO DIFFERENT FUCKUPS THAT CANCELLED EACH OTHER OUT AND I GOT ACCEPTED.
????? PROFIT??????3 -
So I had an interview with Amazon, I had 2 technical rounds and 2 managerial rounds. Now I am waiting for the HR to call, this guy is not picking up the call or replying to my emails. Its almost 3 days now and I am FREAKING OUT!!
How difficult is it to tell the candidate that the application is in progress/accepted or you have been rejected!!!
HR PEOPLE :(10 -
Finding out how not to do it.
An example, learning how to parse HTML, and finding a stackoverflow post with the answer "use regex" triggers tech junkies so much that they actually comment a mostly accepted way of doing something.3 -
What idiot uses 0 for a success response!!! Integrating with a 3rd party I found a bug in our code that uses the default value for an int when the external server can't be reached.
As it happens 0 is the default integer in most languages so no surprise when our system accepted the 3rd party as a success when it blew up 😒4 -
Impressive.
I just went through more old PRs, of which 3 were for https://github.com/doldecomp repos, I cleaned up the formatting and the PRs and @ maintainers.
I'm greeted with 'please stop raising these',
from someone that I apparently made a PR to
( one of their personal repos ) in the past.
In the flow of the conversation and as an argument why the PRs do fit threir repos I mention that they were accepted three times in the past.
Guess what one of the maintainer responds with?
'That reminds me, I'm reverting every one of your accepted PRs when I get home. Thanks for reminding me.'
Now isn't that fun. -
Holy shit stain, an under) today it was discovered that an underprivileged university scholarship student had accidentally received an allowed of 14mil instead of 1.4k over 8 months she spent 800k of it.
I am not sure what confuses me more, the fact that it took a company 8 months to realise 14mil was missing or the fact that a person was stupid enough to believe they allowed to spend that mistake, yet be smart enough to be accepted into university.7 -

Hi guys, I have been accepted into game developing (college), do you have any advice (language, and etc) for someone looking to start learning before even he starts his college course?
I just do not feel that I should waste time to wait for my college to start and then wait for a couple of years before I do something... I would love to progress a bit faster, as I am highly motivated.4 -
A colleague came to me ranting about some feature marketing wants.
"Save whether the user accepted, rejected or ignored the TOS." They have to accept the privacy agreement first, so this feature is most likely about annoying users who rejected the TOS. Totally justified. Fuck that marketing team.8 -

Ah yes, because ofcourse the servers can go home and spend the holidays with their applets.
(yes i know apple says they verify by hand, yes i know in reality they actually automate it)5 -
I'm not a dev, but I want to be. There's a lot of ways to become a developer from what I can tell, but the one I chose was a coding bootcamp.
I was accepted to Thinkful with an Income Share Agreement and a Living Stipend.
I'll be in the full time Engineering Immersion cohort starting this upcoming February.
So I just wanted to share my small accomplishment. Wish me luck, fam.1 -
Waiting for my interview at a big firm.
Nervous.
If I am accepted here, I will have to break a 1 year contract with my previous company. I just feel it is not the right thing to do but this is a very good oppurtunity for me.2 -
So anyone here likes The Good Place?
I made this little Chrome and Firefox extension that replaces the cursing words as in The Good Place.
If you like the show, you'd probably want to test it ;)

Hi guys, I’m that good guy MIS who knows a little bit python and got “promoted” to write a warehouse management system in C#, which I have never use it before.
Just now I submit my first pull request to DevOps and got accepted.
Just a small EF core and barcode generators stuff but I’m so glad I made some progress 😬3 -
Why is Google so annoying? Download the latest version of Android Studio,, create an empty application from their template, build the empty APK and try to upload it to Google Play. Turns out the template for new app in Android Studio is set to use Experimental SDK, not accepted by Play Console.
Am I the only one who thinks this is dumb and left hand needs to talk to right hand?3 -
When you finally fully integrated an API, fixed the obvious bugs and want to demonstrate it to the client... and just out of the blue your API key is not accepted anymore.2

// Publish atleast 1 academic paper
// Complete my master degree

After waiting a very long two days, my app was finally accepted🙏

I know you're not supposed to "spray and pray" when applying for jobs but I find it therapeutic to spam those apply buttons. Also job ads have become so long that I apply and only read them if I'm accepted for an interview.6
-
M$ even admitted that ActiveX was not safe. They at least accepted the problem.
But just saying the the user: "Cool features = get hacked" is stupid.6 -
Your Telerik Kendo UI has a bug? I can fix it. It shouldn't be difficult because there is just so much support and documentation.
-
I was finally able to fix this other persons code when I accepted the fact that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing1
-
I can't believe I have been so blind all this time! For years I have unquestionably accepted the lies of corporations and governments around the world, but I have been enlightened and it is glorious!
So thank you, JavaScript, you magnificent beast - for informing me of the misinformation that has resided in the public consciousness for thousands of years!
It is not the year 2016, it is in fact only the year 116 - wake up sheeple!2 -
Someone please kill me.
I'm sick of myself.
A few days ago in the prize distribution for a past coding contest, I denied my prize and eventually accepted after fucking around a bit.
Now since two days, I'm straight forward wasting my time. My grades are going down exponentially and I'm involving neither in CUDA (which a started just a while ago) nor I'm getting into studies and even getting in competitive coding.... Fuck me!!!!!! -
I feel so fucking happy, today i was accepted as a new Dev on a new Job, I will need to move and leave some things, but man, I was really thinking that maybe i wasn't enough for this country
-
I work in huge corporation. Got an offer for smaller company and gave 2 week notice. My corporation offered me better base salary and retention bonus to stay. I accepted (mistake) and now they are not coming back with retention bonus or salary increase. I found out they did same trick with different person. Wtf... huge corporation is doing those kind of shenanigans?6
-
Just accepted my first "real" job as a front end web developer at a software dev shop! I say "real" because I have no clout at my current job and I'm repeatedly thrown under the bus by the head of IT and my tech recommendations are typically scoffed at.
Really ready to be in a place where everyone else breathes programming. Yay.3 -
Just when i somehow accepted that Austrian part of team is naming theirs methods in Deutch, i almost got heart attack when i saw this. They're combining english with deutch, for example isOffen(), isLoeschenAllowed(), isEinsichtHinzufuegenAllowed() and so on... And most of the time these assholes even dont add javadoc, but when they do it something like: "Checks if *curentClass* is offen". Thanks a fucking ton.3

I just accepted a job offer, while the current company I'm working in (which also offered me a job, cuz' I was in apprenticeship) has no idea about it. I fear the moment when I'll discuss about it with my current boss, because he accepted me as a beginner and now that I'm trained by this company I'll leave it :/
But I'm young and want to discover new work experiences so I hope he'll understand.1 -
Not 1 Business Unit in Company: We need this feature immediately.
My Team: Anyone object to this 2 hour old merge request?
Me: Well, yeah, I found a couple things that we should probably go ahead and address.
My Team: we'll fix that in a future release
Me: But you said that last release...
My Boss: MR Accepted
Also My Boss: Can you make a new user story to fix this?1 -
The job I recently accepted scores a facking 5 out of 12 on the Joel Test 😦😦😦
I'm glad to have gotten a job, but it seems like I'll be looking for one again soon4 -
I lived to see this ... I asked for a salary and the recruiter doubled it . I remained speechless . I didn't bother to ask why i just accepted it ...2

The feeling you get when client is happy and appreciate your work and just asks for the mode of payment accepted?3

Why is it accepted that cs people just have poor hygiene. If I walk into a room and almost get floored by the stench if BO it doesn't make it acceptable to say "you're not used to it? It's that cs smell, man." like, ok. that dude should still go fucking shower.
Literally the entire lab was just rank from one guy, and the room is at least 30X1005 -

Just found out that all the high school varsity sports kids that got full rides to ivy leagues for sports are all transferring or failing. Meanwhile, I've been accepted into a graduate program for Software Engineering and I'm going into my second internship this summer. I know to most people that's just more work and more school but to me that's winning -
Simple ANTLR project for compiler class accepted .
Easy money
(btw I had no idea about what antlr was , so i googled everything :D) -
Trying to make an Intellij plugin and coming across and error I don't understand. I google the error(s), find ONE result in English that describes EXACTLY what my issue is, and the answer on StackOverflow just directs me to the documentation with a brief explanation copied directly from someplace, WHICH I WAS USING AND AM STILL HAVING THE ERROR! And it's accepted, too!1

When you are new to a technology and language, but have to make full use of its feature.
You know, make tests, implement production code, planning deployment, build a CI. All by myself.
No regrets, though. Challenge accepted!1 -
kinda pissed at github/microsoft right now. my friend applied for the student developer pack before microsoft bought github and got accepted in 10 min, i'm still waiting and it's been three days. how long did yours take?11
-
Team Leader, once again, wagered I was wrong on a technical thing
I, once again, accepted his wager
Team Leader, once again, lost the bet.
That's 3-0 now.1 -
My best code review was when my merge request was accepted in less than a minute after creation. It was simple but I expected more time on review and accept action.
-
Super brilliant idea for Windows: when logging on with a password that is only slightly mistyped, or with the consecutively appended number from the previous month, it should still be accepted. So much more usability - Microsoft just cannot reject that!8

Is it just me or everytime I look up a question and I land on Microsoft Q&A site, theres never any accepted answers?
Rather you get, this thread is closed after all these non helpful answers from staff2 -
Followup to my job-hunt rant from December
https://devrant.com/rants/6137401/...
In the time since then, I got 5 offers from various companies.
I accepted the highest paying one.
Today is my first day as a (mostly linux) system engineer for a renowned e-learning company.1 -
When your code is accepted after you forgot about the comment about your boss being a Tw*t... Surprise.1
-
Well I developed a small restaurant system to a friend who only paid me $20 😅 I did the system in 4 days, I didn't know how much ask for the system and needed the money that's why I accepted4

Just found out about JSON API: https://jsonapi.org/
In a nutshell, it's a very standardized REST API and feels very good to use. Let's see if the standard will be accepted by the market.2 -
Just got accepted as a Tutor. I have to teach PhD students in medical field SciKit package for image processing. Been coding in Python using pandas and numpy for years, but I know jack shit on SciKit.
I applied just for fun and got the position. Now I am fucking terrified.
Meanwhile I rejected a Teaching Assistant position because of this one.6 -
Went to a job interview with a senior developer and HR woman
We talked about me, previous expriences, and the company, in general. No tech questions asked, 2 days later got accepted.
Feels really weird... Does that happen often to you guys?
p. s. It's a normal company with a pretty good and known product in my country.7 -
One aged person went to banker and said my son is not in country, and he asked me to withdraw money from his mutual fund account. Can you help.
Banker replied, do you have withdraw form signed. If not then can you copy his sign.
Elder guy tried it and stupid banker accepted withdraw form as well.1 -
io_uring hardly works and yet was accepted into the mainline Linux Kernel.

What made you smile last week? Were you hyped for something or proud of yourself? What made you happy?
We had some frustration/fail weeks lately, so I thought we can talk about what brought us just joy. :)
Just share some joy with me!
I'll start:
I got accepted for a Android Developer Nanodegree and I'm hyped about it! Finally I'll have some good course with materials and motivation to learn more.4 -

When you invest days to come up with a better design of a system, and the moment you discuss with senior devs, and they present a even better design which they have already considered in their roadmap for a while..
Waiting for the day, my design is the better one and being accepted..1 -
I once had to fix a webservice endpoint another developer added that accepted any file from the public internet and loaded it directly onto an NFS file mount with the rest of the site's image assets and then inserted a record of the file into SQL via a hand-stitched query with parameters from the endpoint.
I was working for a large enterprise company at the time... I was very disappoint. -
Customer: "no obligation quote: upgrading 20 pc from ME to XP."

I got accepted into the University of Washington BS Computer Science & Software Engineering program today! It's been a long road since starting ITT Tech 3 years agofor a BAS in SDEV, it closing on me, starting all the way over at community college, maintaining a 4.0, and now a bootcamper at Coding Dojo. Now only at least 2 more years to go! 😁🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃😩1

Being a Dutch developer & student I'd love to seek new challenges and participate in coding events and Hackathons. Seeing as Devrant has so many amazing developers from The Netherlands around, any suggestions where I could go and find information about such events?5

Ok so I'm a high school student in grade 11 looking to get a degree in computer sciences. I looked at the requirements for big Universitys in Canada and they say you only NEED calculous and vectors and no sciences. I wasn't sure if not taking sciences will impact my acceptance probability or if any of you got accepted to universities without highschool science.5
-
Got accepted as a part-time FE developer in a well-known company.
Reality check: all I do is maintain a horribly formatted spaghetti code (20k+ lines in a file) using ancient tech like PL/SQL, prototypeJS and IE11.
Buy hey, at least I know some SQL magic now.. Right?!7 -
Was invited to interview by agent for 1yr contract position. Was accepted for permament position with bigger salary instead. Now I’m an Unix Infrastructure Engineer

Our generation has accepted that time management isn't cool. Doing things at whim and as you like is cooler and accepted to be non-monotonous.
Though haven't cracked the mantra behind proper time management, I am of the opinion that those who manage a fixed skeletal time management live a way more cooler life than others. 😅
P.S.: Time management hasn't nothing to do with being geeky or not going to parties. FYI. Time utilisation is an entirely different concept. 😉 -
being accepted as an Intern at a small company, its not much but i really feel confidence of my skill and working as a group, even though there is an age gap of like 5 years, i managed to connect and feel comfortable.
-
So I found my dream college. They have video game development which can seriously help me out in my work. Problem is I need to raise my GPA to a 3.0 and score a 18 on the ACT testing my school does in order to get accepted. My current GPA is 1.7 and I don't know what my score was on my last PSAT. Kms2

Interface is the most misleading term in .Net. It's not an "interface" when an object requires a set of objects defined by another object! It's a template if anything! I'd even accepted CookieCutter or Mold.

Seeking a new school to continue studying..
Finally found a good one, with a programming planning, a rare things in programming school...
Ok let's go, here is a challenge to be accepted.
Friends : i bet you to fails the challenge and get accepted.
-me : .... well ok I'll only do the programming part and don't answer the rest of the test.
30% of the test was logic and programming, the rest were stupid culture questions.
- the school actually hired me.. thanks 😂😂😂2 -
I went to a job interview about 3 weeks ago. I got an email that I didn't pass, so I asked for a feedback. Their response was that I have required technical skills, but the reason I was not accepted was "your personality is incompatible with our team". I mean, WTF. How can you get my personality after one hour of me talking about code?14

Started signing my internal emails:
<Name>

Day 8 and noone has noticed.
I've been accepted into the mail herd. -
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a “Data Structures and Algorithms” certification that provided validation of your skills and was industry-wide accepted so that you don’t need to go through the same leetcode coding interviews at every new job
It’s rare to see a profession where experience means so little during the hiring process10 -
Two days ago I names my WiFi "Hack it if you can"
and...
Yesterday, it was changed to "Challenge accepted"3 -
I've seen multiple rants about how people got blamed for hacking the school or airport or whatever, because they had a terminal or code editor open. Because white text on black background obviously means you're a hacker.
But what if we didn't use dark theme? What if your terminal looks like notepad and Android Studio like Word. Would we be less scary then? Would we be accepted by the public society?1 -
Been getting some fiverr requests recently. Had one to migrate two websites and email migration. Simple enough, accepted. Contract signed. Got sent the files and the SQL exports, the website is from the 90s. So I might as well ask if they need a website update after the migrations are done haha as the company is still pretty active.
-
Actually not a rant, I just want to share my happiness with you guys. Finally I broke out of a startup, and got accepted to an international big company. Cannot wait for the things I’ll learn there, it’s so exciting! (Yep, this is a very big milestone for me as an autodidact programmer.)
Any advice you can give to me? What was your biggest achievement so far in your carreer?6 -
Tfw you accepted a project you thought you "can" work on, but over time it turns out that you won't be able to finish the project on time.
:')7 -
Ever since Google emailed me today telling me they accepted my trade in, the fingerprint scanner on my Pixel 6 stopped recognizing my finger(s)...1

Since CS is about the science of computers and not about a particular programming language, it would be nice if assignments were accepted in any non-esoteric language, as long as it can demonstrate that the student has learned whatever he was supposed to learn.
Bonus points for explaining well why that language was chosen.1 -
Just got accepted to a new position in a company in Dresden where I will earn more than the double of what I already earn! Long live Frontend!2

Storing ToS in Database.
So, all my life I've built custom software for businesses that do no intent to be used by public.
Now I am developing an online store and the user has to agree to ToS before signing up. I was wondering, if the users agrees to ToS should I store it in database that he accepted? If yes, will it be just a boolean or a text.
P.S. Living in U.S.A.7 -
Us users would never accept data lock-in for photos and videos from the camera app on smartphones.
Yet, for some reason, we accepted data lock-in for saved pages on mobile web browsers.5 -
I finished a double major IT and computer science as a minor.
Am trying my best to find a job in programming to be specific mobile apps dev
and am failing miserably
Can you please tell me what's needed and what i should enhance to get accepted6 -
I love meetups. People scare the hell out of me because of how much they know in relation to myself. But that's usually a good n challenge accepted sort of scare. But in there are the professional bullshitters. These bunch teach me the art of confidence. Don't wanna be a con though2

Dude. I asked my question like 6 months ago. I got an upvote and two answers. I accepted the one which helped me the most and upvoted it myself.
How about you fuck off with your edit suggestions on a buried subject? -
Salesforce translation import tool is absolutely useless regarding error messages, when something is wrong with the file. Even if you try to replicate an already correct file, salesforce just tells you that something went wrong and which file formats are accepted ... even when using said format. No hints, no further explanation ... I need more details, WHAT IS WRONG?😠2

I created an application A which was faster than B. As the authors of B created a repo for benchmarking and mentioned
'Do you know other Bs? PR! :D'
I created a PR in Apr.
it is not accepted yet.4 -
SO's accepted answers being "no dont do what you want to do, use this corporate™-certified library instead, we ALLLLL use it too"

To avoid PMs and bosses on devRant, login should be made using GitHub. And only accounts with code on them should be accepted. And not just forks.2

Anyone know why calling the "memo" function on a React component or using the "useMemo" hook is widely accepted to be called "memoization", when the name itself derives from an existing English verb which actually means what the function does? Why are we artificially creating jargon?6
-
Someone was pointing out that we aren't ranting on this platform anymore, it's only shit posting and making fun of people.
I think it goes a little deeper than that. Maybe we have just given up? Maybe we have accepted that it's not getting any better than how it is already, it can only go downhill.
Just like in a relationship, you fight with your SO when you hope that there is room for improvement, but when you stop, you know the relationship's dead.
Maybe we have accepted the fact that, it is what it is. No use in ranting anymore.13 -
I created pull requests for some open source js projects to fix issues with monkey patching Object.Prototype, as I used it heavily in a current project. All of them were accepted and merged.
A couple of weeks later I realised how retarded that was and refactored all monkey patching to separate modules. -
* Stay without password for 1 month*
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED:

So I'm in a situation where I have to send a big set of data (from a numerous set of profile), but I can't because the framework used has been thought for sending few data (from an only profile) and then get a timeout.
I should take it as a challenge, a hard one but a challenge. Gonna be funny (and tiring too I guess)1 -
Just spent 4h trying to start application after db password change. The app accepted base64 encoded password.
It turns out it's very important to use -n switch in "echo pass I base64"1 -
Important merge request howto:
- Hey, I implemented very important server change and it doesn't break compatibility with current clients!
- Cool, but we don't need this compatibility code. We'll adopt our clients as soon as the merge request is accepted.
- Ok, I removed support of current clients.
- Cool, but it's too dangerous to adopt our clients rights now. We'll accept your merge request later. Some other day... somewhere... some other time... -
Imagine in the future a sponsored tweet "Dear followers, I am no longer among you. This message was posted by my heirs, who accepted the terms and conditions of my will, which included letting my followers know in case I'd no longer be here. Get yours too with Buffer (https://buffer.com/)".
That would be the pinnacle of capitalism4 -
I have no one to argue about this with, I'm the only developer in my place of work, but I can say that the arrangement of the import statements sucks my nuts no PR is accepted just because they want to see first inbuild imports, then third party, then imports from current projects, why why why!!! that doesn't harm anyone in the world!!!! but just my time!!!3
-
Y'all panicking about act 13, but I'm happy because the developing dictatorship that I call my home had finally been accepted illicit. I'm talking about Hungary and Victor Orbán, the angry gnome.

I just got accepted for computer science .wow.this is going to be a good year. hopefully they let me do all my practical programming assignments in java.and hopefully a cs degree in South Africa holds up in other countries.

Recruiter left his firm to start his own, so he tried to set me up with my current company but I turned it down because it was 6k less than where I was. I would have accepted 3k less, but ended the process. A few months later, the recruiter was out of the picture and the director invited me to lunch. The recruiter was dating the owners daughter, never went back to them with my counter.

iOS/native app devs!
How usual it is for your apps to differ from iOS UI guidelines? Our lead dev always throws a fit when he has to implement custom stuff, but I see popular games “shit all over” these guidelines all the time and do very well in popularity.
As I’m no expert, please tell me if it is generally accepted to not follow these iOS rules / use premade controls 100% of the time, so I know what’s up. Thank you.2 -
"I’m sure there are fine artists out there who keep the audience in mind when they work. But it’s not the accepted trajectory of the profession. Conversely, it’s very clear in design that what we do needs to be seen an understood by an audience." - Stefan Sagmeister

Client accepted my proposal, but ghosted me the first time I started asking questions (like which version of MySQL he's using). Do I stop working on the project ? It's been two weeks of reminder emails with no response. The dummy I am didn't get his phone number when we started.6

I do not fully understand this.setState in reactjs with async functions, so I posted a question on SO,
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
I have accepted the given answer as it makes sense. but in reality the solution does not work, can anyone shed some light on it?14 -
Busy on stackoverflow copying code from the question.
It's way easier than thinking myself. And the question has an accepted answer. -
I read the book “Bad Blood” which is about the Theranos scandal. I sent a connection request on LinkedIn to Tyler Schultz, John Fuisz and John Carreyou. I was hoping that their insights would help me navigate the red flags of the startup world— exaggerating technology, misleading investors etc. All three accepted it !! Yay !3
-
It's amazing how pointless this seems and how tired and noncommittal this makes me
When I was younger I made this insistent and logical comment
Now I'm so burnt out from this stupid shit I just accepted that I'm probably fucked and I'm fearful of being proactive because of these rapists and their system
I should just stab one of the really bad ones that might bring the old me back2 -

When you need that one feature from a framework, that it just not have. So you have to use a custom version till your PR has been accepted.
I see a possible problematic future... -
Huh, just created a job in Jenkins to run msbuild over some solutions. The job accepted a parameter called "Configuration" which was just some simple JSON.
Everytime I ran the job, msbuild failed.
Then I realised that the Debug/Release info for a .NET Solution gets put into an environment variable called "Configuration" that msbuild creates and relies on! >.< -
Has anyone ever accepted an offer of employment and then changed their mind and "cancelled it" in the UK?
I have an offer starting 6 months from now and I am worried I might get another better offer in the mean time but I'll be bound to this one since I accepted it...
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.4 -
I’m not good at frontend and I’ve accepted that but it’s frustrating because I just am not good at making things look good and I hate spending the time on the looks when I want to just go have fun with the back end.
I will say though getting it to look the way I want is super satisfying as well.
Any advice or resources?2 -
Yo what the actual hell is up with the lack of Azure AD B2C documentation, the error codes are pretty ass too! Had a similar problem many users faced & on stackoverflow everyone had different solutions. My solution wasn't the accepted one and it has 2 upvotes ....2 UPVOTES!!1

From the terminal, I can see that the development server is started, then couple of seconds later, there's accepted and closing; as seen attached.10

Today, I got accepted in Upwork as A full Stack web developer. Is anyone have an advise in how I could get my first job? And any hacks in writing proposal?2

If you are not happy with your job how do you decide to quit?
Do you think it's okay to go to interviews while you're working and when you get accepted let your employer know that you will quit once you're done with your current project.7
