I fucked up hard for the first time yesterday at work.
Came in and expected a huge speech from the bossman.
He called me to his office:
Explained me where I went wrong and what I should do next time with a big smile on his face!26
Yesterday's JR web dev interview:
👶: Well JS, pyhton, UX Design and bit of Sass.
👨🏻💻: Feel like you'll have a hard time learning PHP?
👶: Well if it needs to be PHP, I can learn it.. Are you using a certain CMS?
👨🏻💻: Cool, good. Yeah we're using WordPress and need to support our sites for IE8.
👶:... Well.. ehm.. *runs away and screams in panic 💨*20
Me: *hours of coding, develops a feature*
Code: I'm working..
Me: Oh good.. will monitor you for sometime.
Code: Ok, I'm done. I'll stop working now.
Me: *sits for hours to solve bugs*
And when almost done,
VPN: Someone's having a good day, I'll disconnect you now.
Me: *tries switching on/off VPN couple of times..*
When it starts to connect,
WIFI: Oh wait!! It's my turn to bid goodbye now. Have a nice day sir
Me: Of course !! The wifi
Me: *restarts router/ troubleshoot etc*
When wifi says connected...
Battery: Good job with wifi.. I'm down now..what you gonna do?
Me: Are you fucking kidding me???
Me: *connects charger, wait for laptop to switch on*
Me: *jumps out window*17
Do you guys feel a need to create something "cool" and "unique" but have a hard time coming up with ideas?4
my all-time favorite xkcd comic. Many will know it already, but i think it's a nice start into devrant community and maybe a few will laughing as hard as i did when i've seen it the first time :)8
Was working and decided to go get a drink so I Took my headphones off.
Just in time to hear a colleague say: (in Dutch it sounds better) Beste Bob, krijg de tering.
English equivilant: dear bob, go fuck yourself.
Giggled hard 😆20
"Linux is too hard and it's a waste of time"
"Trying to use vim makes writing code impossible. It's too ancient"
"Windows has gotten better"
"C/c++ is showing it's age and will be replaced by something like d or rust" yeah call me when that happens
"C# is good"
"Java is okay"
And many others.87
Boss assigned me a task on Google Docs:
Boss: "Please remove this line"
Me: "What!? You're already there! How hard is it to fucking select the fucking sentence with your fucking touchpad and press the fucking delete key on your fucking keyboard!? Why assign me with such a fucking waste of time and fucking trivial task!?"17
I think I get a programmer high.
Like when I program, I get really into it, time is flying, I'm having fun problem solving, I am super focused, my brain is thinking super fast, and I have a hard time stopping.
Maybe similar to a runners high?11
Friend: "Don't all computer science people learn multiple languages so they can use the right one for the job?"
We learn multiple languages because some asshat before us had a hard-on for it and now we need to keep that shit running and we don't have time to rewrite it.6
During teacher office hours a few years back: if you have questions on your homework, maybe it's too hard and you should switch majors to something easier, many girls do, so there's no shame in it.
I had asked for verification that my standard deviation logic was correct before spending the time coding it and then figuring out what was wrong.
Ps- he's no longer employed by the school for other sexist reasons.31
Never laughed so hard before. Worth the time. Totally!
Why do people (Some devs too...) bloody hell think that devs have Hard time fixing the Semi Colon issue, we have a lot of other issues to figure out, like the Structure of Data, Code Fragmentation, API Creation, Invalid Data Handling, Injection Prevention. But no, since we are developers, we are having sleepless nights because of one fucking semicolon? FUCKING NO, it hardly takes 30 seconds to figure out that there is a missing semi-colon. Really People, stop the ; thing!10
Tanking World of Warcraft raids. I had severe depression and low self worth. I played the game all the time to cope. I decided to get good at tanking because I heard it was a challenge. I ended up getting fairly decent, started tanking raids and people would ask me on more and more raids saying I was a great tank.
This gave my self confidence a boost and I figured if I could do that (which everyone said was hard) I could get good at coding (which everyone also said was hard.)
Stopped playing wow, started coding all the time. Today I earn very, very decent money as a software dev. (and I don't have depression anymore)
Thanks World of Warcraft.12
Me: Open terminal on current folder
Me: Copy path of current folder
Me: Delete this desktop icon (Delete key)
Me: Lets move this icon to trash
Mac: Alrighty then, delete application.
Man i will have a hard time getting used to this, Windows had its cons but these small things made my life easier.20
Imagine going back in time to 1956
to show the Inventor of the 1.5m wide and 1.7m high IBM 350 Hard Disk storage unit with a total of 5MB Storage size this...
we recieved many support emails from concerned customers that day6
My stickers just arrived. And I especially love the encoding of “ß” within the street name.
German. It's hard.
Next time, just use upper letter and replaced “ß” with “SS” or just use a “B”. The B is especially fine to drive typographers mad.9
Learning a new language is like first time doing sex, it's hard at the beginning but when you start doing it right you just want more and more! :) good morning guys !!4
I once ran into a CAPTCHA that was hard coded with a simple math problem. Every time it asked what 5 + 1 is.4
I was so stupid back in days, that I once decided to defragment my hard drive and move data between partitions at the same time.
Guess what? I ACTUALLY DID IT.
System went slower slower....
Everything stopped working. I wondered why? 🤔
Laptop did not boot up. Struggled for hours, before realising the fact that it is dead forever.
YES, I NUKED MY HARD DRIVE. ALL DATA LOST AND MOTHERBOARD STOPPED WORKING.
Couldn't be proud of myself. 😎 Because it was a great learning experience.
Learned it hard way.15
I'm upset. I got banned by StackOverflow because of the questions I've asked recently.
I've worked very hard on my account, getting myself up to 293 points over quite a few months.
And then they just toss me overboard because of the reception of a few questions that I've asked recently.
I deleted the question, re-edited it, and tried so hard to get myself out of the ban. And then I come back and here I am, completely banned. It's so fucking shitty.
What's even the point? I feel that most of the time the community spends more time downvoting instead of upvoting?
How can I even compete? I'm trying to get help, not feel invalidated and smashed by a stupid point system.
I'm just going to go sit in a corner and cry now because clearly, my questions are worth more than the points I've garnered.20
No boss... For the fucking millionth time: unit tests are not a waste of time.
You keep testing everything manually and hoping that you tested everything every time and praying that there are no bugs IS THE FUCKING TIME WASTE
My boss just can't fucking wrap his head around automated tests... I'm trying hard... Gonna try harder...6
Last week my brother was visiting. I did some advanced partition management for his girlfriend (preparing a hard drive for backups) and used a Linux live system with gParted for that.
That's when he said "I guess it's time, that I get into Linux - what do I need to get started?".
My time as a Dev have given me deep mistrust of the following words;
Any requirements, specs or feature files presented with the above words should immediately be deleted and/or burned if in hard copy.3
Fucking URLs, people.
They're not hard.
If you're going to give me a bug report, TELL ME THE GODDAMN URL.
If, after yelling at you several times for not providing the url, you instead just fucking GUESS at the url, YOU'RE A GODDAMN BLITHERING IDIOT AND YOU'RE WASTING MY GODDAMN TIME.
ALT+D, CTRL+C or CMD+L, CMD+C
SO HARD. ASDFASDJGHLKASDHFLJKSGDFSKDF6
My new year resolution: 3840 X 2160
PS: don't give me a hard time in the comments. I know it's an old joke. 😫5
YAY! I know it's not much compared to you geniuses but it's been hard for me to take the time through high school to really wrap my head around the technicals. I just wanted to share my joy with y'all!!! :D I'm also currently going through the "30 days challenge" and I'm on day 19 still but ayyy I'm getting there!!!8
This is more on work and life balance.
1. Don't do hard work, but do 'Smart work', else you will end up burn yourself 100%.
2. Don't think your manager is your guardian angel, even though it seems like sometimes. He has his own goals to achieve.
3. Spend considerable time daily in and out of office/work, for your own development/improvement.
4. Learn new languages and technologies.
5. Stop making things perfect, 'good' is enough.
and it goes on ............3
Wear headphones at home office. Not because I can't play it out loud, but when you go around in Iron Maiden shirts the wife gives you a hard time about listening to J-pop.4
So many bad dev habits...
But the one that results in the biggest headaches afterwards?
Me, when given a problem and being asked an estimated time: 'This shouldn't be too hard, gimme X to do it', only to later find out it's way harder than i imagined.4
Fun fact you dumbass: YOU 👏🏻 DON'T👏🏻HAVE👏🏻TO👏🏻 REVIEW👏🏻THE 👏🏻PLACE
I get asked to review places I've never been all the fucking time. But like an adult with a BRAIN I swipe away.
"Life is hard. It’s harder when you’re stupid" ~ someone who has a mf point8
Wish me luck, ranters. Tomorrow I start working in an IT company for the very first time. Hope I don't get fired very soon, freelancing is hard. And I still owe >1300€7
"How long will it take us to build X?"
"How long is a piece of string?"
Very similar indeed. Time estimates are insanely hard even with all the cards on the table, be sure to lay them all out before asking.1
Why do users find it so hard to understand short and clear error messages that are in place to inform them what's going wrong? Why do they instead waste my time when the message clearly says that the password is too short and hasn't got any special characters? FFS!5
TLDR; My 2TB HDD got wiped in one fell swoop by a 9-year old child.
You know... I've never been too great about keeping backups. Even to this day, I only keep one or two local backups and nothing on the "cloud".
So this was about 5 years ago. At the time, I was living together with my girlfriend - who would later become my wife. She had a son from a previous relationship, who at the time was 9 years old.
I had a small desk in the living room of our one-bedroom apartment, that I used for my computer, which has been a laptop for a long time now. One unfortunate thing about the layout of the apartment was that the wall plug near my desk was attached to a light switch.
I had a 2TB external hard drive - with its own power cable - plugged into my laptop. Then, things started to move in slow motion... The GF's son comes inside from playing, my GF asks him to turn off the light. He reaches over, and shuts off power to my laptop - and the external hard drive.
He must have hit that switch at JUST the right fucking time. The laptop ran on battery, no big deal. The hard drive, when I powered it back up - was wiped clean. I tried data recovery on it, but the HDD was encrypted, which makes things more complicated.
Needless to say, I was not happy. I never got that data back, but I did learn not to expose my hard drives to 9 year olds. Very dangerous little creatures.
You want to know the best part? He destroyed another hard drive of mine, a few years later. Should I tell that story?5
Making a Package Manager from Scratch is hard.
Making a Scratch-like education coding software in XAML is hard.
Setting up a server with zero knowledge is hard.
Creating a new file extension for my project and making it work is hard.
But, as a student,
studying and coding is the hardest thing.
Same 24 hours for everyone, and I should code as well as study.
The most precious thing in Earth.

Starting a new project tonight to help fellow teachers! First time actually using Github as well.... Interesting although I found it hard to get my head around!11
Was having a hard time completing a project given to me on my Internship.
After a long time I heavy heartedly thought to ask my question on StackOverflow and this happened
Me : How can I do this??
Asshole User : Sorry mate, but what you are trying to do is impossible
Me : "Shows that it can be done"
Asshole User : Downvotes my question and deletes his comment
Me : 😐😐😐
Now my question has 3 more downvotes
Never using SO again !!6
Advice for all future developers: for every project you work on - write down the time you've spent on it, which technologies (eg. Languages, stack, DBMS.. ) you used and what the subject of the project was. You'll likely gonna need it for future job applications and it's hard to come up with every detail after 6 years if you haven't written it down...3
A few months ago my now boss, then he was my mentor and school teacher asked for my help with a feature, said he had tried for some time and couldnt get around it, I solved it with regex in less than a day, and the company is like the golden standard of my region. The issue itaelf wasnt hard but being able to help my mentor was pretty cool
Every time I hear my boss say "surely it can't be that hard" or "that's what, like a 5 minute job?"
Someone will have a hard time taking this non-existant tram out of service, and probably even harder to make the insurance company pay for nothing... oh well.8
In an interview, when you throw a simple piece of code to a candidate...
ME: (maybe I'm too hard on them)
ME: (ok, I definitively have to simplify this little pattern example)
ME: ...explaining the short piece of code and give'm the answer
Candidate: haaaaa that's what I was thinking but I used that long time ago...
ME: (Yeah... nice try)4
So... We have a "network admin" who manages our network and the servers (windows) and I manage the Linux servers... He is having a real hard time to understand that the servers have no password but use ssh-keys to login and keep asking me for the credential to have them somewhere in case "something happens" like I quit or die...2
Today my RAID system for backups crashed. Three hard drives died all the same time. This day cannot get even worse.16
Me: *downloaded wordpress for first time*
Me: *opens folder in Atom*
.php file: Hi there! Welcome to your new bl-
Me: *delete wordpress folder and reformats hard drive*4
When I was a young boy and I was writing my first programs, I remember I was sad because they were fast, unlike other applications I used daily and admired, with their long splash screens and the hard drive constantly making noise whenever you performed an action. At that time for me, 'slow' meant 'serious'.
It's fun to see how things have changed today: ensuring performance is a critical part of my job, and DAMMIT WHY HASN'T THE WEB PAGE LOADED YET?!?2
I recently started working with CI/CD in gitlab. I don't know why I had such a hard time getting it to work. I left it hanging for another day. Yesterday, before I went to sleep, I merged to master branch. On waking up I can't explain my happiness when I saw my pipeline... 😀6
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!
HOW CAN SOMEONE BE A FREELANCER/WEB DEV AND TYPE SO FUCKING SLOW AND HAVE TROUBLE WITH FUCKING LETTERS ALL THE TIME?!
I'm gonna push this mother fucker so hard that he will learn not to "lie" in an interview never again and become a fucking dev.5
I keep putting my phone between my mouse and the wireless receiver and every time it makes it hard to move the cursor because of the blockage. So annoying!!3
I’m sick of these kinds of error messages. “Could not be downloaded at this time.” Ok...but why? Are the stars out of alignment? Did the CEO of the company decide that every other Tuesday at noon, you can’t download this app?
How hard is it to give a reason in the error message??2
C : Cool (for me)
Java : Just A Variety Available (uhm.. no hard feelings java lovers)
Python : Please .. You THink On Nothing (You literally think on nothing xD )
No matter how hard requirement look or the thing you're going to develop JUST START THAT SHIT it will take time but you can and will do it.
I'm a die hard ViM user and throughout the years I managed to put ViM key bindings in everything, from browser to even my cell phone for some reason (back in the day if I had the opportunity to put them in the fridge, I would have put them - people would have a hard time closing the door, though)
The thing is that it had become a liability because I see that, even though I "work really fast and efficiently" using this tool, when I have to use other things, like a different shell (I use zsh with some ViM sauce) or type in another editor, it sucks so hard.
Everything is wrong, nothing works, the typing is a mess.
Now I'm trying to force myself to use Vscode and I removed all those extensions from my browser and shell. It is uncomfortable, but the idea is to "rewire my muscle memory", if there is such thing.
Me trying to take a screenshot with iOS 12:
*holds home and presses lock* (the only way I had found to reliably take a screenshot in previous versions): Siri
Fuck off Siri I want a screenshot!
*tries again same way*: Siri
Fuck OFF Siri!
*holds lock + home*: phone locks
*unlocks phone, presses home and lock at the exact same time*
*continues holding* I just want my fucking screenshot.
Phone powers off. Hard reset.
Fuck this shit.
How hard is it to monitor two buttons being pressed at the same time? And if it is so damn hard why make it the ONLY WAY TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT??!
Now whenever I want a screenshot it’s basically a crapshoot whether I will get a screenshot, Siri barging in, or my phone locking on me.
Couldn’t they have just used the volume buttons instead? 😡13
Me: I want to be a dev..
Mom: But you only sit in front of the computer to play games.
Me: That's not what I always do.
Mom: Then why are you sitting behind the computer all the time.
Me: To make software. Most of the time you clearly see me typing code.
Mom: No, I can't trust you, you play too much games. Study hard and get another job.
Me: *Middle finger behind a back.*5
Pathetic dev moments: Any time my macbook fans rev up, I worry that I'm working my baby too hard, so I start closing applications.3
Microsoft Azure down on a Friday at home time? Whoever tripped over that cable is probably trying awfully hard to slink out of the building unnoticed right about now2
Another failed interview after I poured my heart and soul into an employers interview project. I Pulled all nighters. I worked so hard and really pushed myself this time. The interview went really well and I had a lot of positive feedback but I didn't get the job because they hired someone with more experience.Im am so passionate about becoming an Android Developer but it saddens me that I will never be able to get a job doing it because there are always people more experienced than me. I'm absolutely gutted. IV worked so hard to get this far. I'm about to give up. What's the fucking point.... Devistated.17
SSH is the most basic thing a web developer should know.
Some people are just lazy to learn something and all they do is give hard time to other people.2
My new motherboard (MSI Z170 GAMING AC) reports temps for the memory, CPU, GPU and hard drive in °C. And the motherboard temp in °F.
Almost had a fucking heart attack the first time I opened Speccy for benchmarking.
What do we have to give you to make you able to accurately predict the scope and length of time it will take you to develop something you know nothing about and have no experience with? How hard could it possibly be? You click a button and BOOM! A unicorn! Please provide estimate in hrs EOD.3
Everytime I don't sit in front of my code (and go for a walk or something), I immediately find bugs or things to improve from all the code I've written, IN MY HEAD. If you have a hard time finding bugs, try this, maybe. Might help.3
First time installing Linux on desktop, I’ve decided for Arch because I wanna learn. Skimmed through official guide, looks hard.
So exciting, I love computers!10
So Microsoft, you tell me that there is a known bug, if you have Windows 10 with the newest update installed on a SSD and Apps running on another hard drive?! And this bugs causes random freezes of the whole PC from time to time?
WHAT THE FUCK?!
It is a common setup nowadays to have a SSD with windows 10 and software on other hard drives and you didn't care to check it before releasing the update? Which I HAVE to download and install?
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!8
Best Hardware support team.
I hope every one of you got such team.
My keyboard was not working properly.
programmer's most used special character ; is auto typing anywhere that is obviously keyboard issue so I called H/W support team.
me: *explained above problem.*
supporter : Ya we know that issue ,YOUR HARD DRIVE IS CORRUPTED. We have 2 option
1) either we can formate your system.
2) We have to change hard drive.
Me thinking : *devrant stuff found*
Me: that is really sad part. How many time you solved such problem?
S: This is my first time in this company ,previously I solved such issue more than 10 time.
Me: you really look smart.
S: thank you,any how I will resolved this issue today.
Me: today I am going earlier but yes we will meet on monday. thank you for quick response.7
Shootout to my 2.5GB Maxtor hard drive, that I heavily used between 1997 and 2001. There were no USB drives, and CD burners were too expensive for consumers. So I used to open my PC case, remove the drive (along with Windows and my software), bring it around at my friend's house and have fun while copying hundreds of mp3s, patiently downloaded from filesharing and 56k modems or ripped from CD audio, in and out.
One time it fell out from my desk, hitting hard floor big time. I thought I lost it forever, and basically my whole PC in it. Then I tried plugging again its IDE and power connectors, and it was still working! ... well, half of it. That badass still continued to work with one of its two platters crashed, and got some more mp3s with it.
Maybe I still have it...1
So, this poor fucker right here has spent 3 hours straight trying to install KDE Neon AGAIN, FOR THE 14TH TIME AS OF TIME OF WRITING on an old 0.5TB hard drive with some GiB-wise partitioning size and apparently the disk doesn't like it.
Can someone give me a dildo so I can fuck myself more because life is not fucking me hard enough? No lube needed kthanksbye11
Just realized Windows 10 update "Restart Now" button doesn't have a confirmation/cancel screen unlike the normal power options.
Learned it the hard way when I just wanted to change the time it restarts and clicked restart now by accident.
Goes to show how forced these updates are .-.22
I currently work remotely, but as it's my first job I would love to work locally with other devs in a room... Motivating can be quite hard sometimes when you're alone.
(And I know this attitude will probably change once I worked locally some time)3
I have a second hard drive called "Windows" on my main system (for dual boot).
When I unmount it after I had to access it via Linux it says "You can remove Windows now".
Makes me smile every time.1
Why is Drupal so hard to learn?!!!!!!
It feels like you are learning an entirely new language. Yes it makes hard things simple, at the same time making simple things hard to accomplish.
And also modules are buggy, you would fix bugs instead of doing your tasks.
I want to learn Drupal but I guess it is not friendly for beginners like me.11
It's not that understanding code is so hard (although it can be); understanding the _intent_ is hard. This MVP is great, but when no one had time to document what is actually supposed to happen, programmers have to reverse-engineer the *design*.4
Recently got out of the military now I work a full time job, have a wife and a 15 month old son, go to college full time online and try to learn Java and android development in my other time. I want to work as a developer so badly but I'm just not good enough yet. It's also super hard to know what level of knowledge you need to obtain a job because all entry level positions want you to have years of experience in 10 fucking languages and shit like what the fuck? No breaks, hungry to succeed.10
I decided to start learning go yesterday.
I had a Fun little automation task at hand and got to work...
The next time I checked the clock it was monday 02:40 AM
Getting up at 06:10 was hard...2
Recently migrated to Ubuntu, was on a friends laptop today with Windows. Feels like bit hard to use windows now even though previously used it for a long time.
Love Ubuntu ❤3
So my college is writing a desktop app (usually my domain), and he doesn't want to do internationalisation because of time constraints. HARD CODED STRINGS EVERYWHERE!12
Fuck Azure, Fuck Windows, Fuck Microsoft.
Half ass baked products in the market. Half the time there's no documentation. When there's a documentation it is so bad that it makes me feel like biting my teeth so hard that I am left with fucking pieces of incisors. My blood fucking boils whenever I need to deal with "POWER"shell. Fucking weaklings.15
Never do personal stuff at work, never do work stuff unless hours are being counted. Proper separation of duties.
Boss always tells us we only work 38 hours a week and any other time we do we can take off later.
Procrastination for work projects thus usually involves working on unrelated, more exciting projects instead of the one with the hard deadline ;)1
I want to share one very interesting incident -
Once upon a time, ( 9 yrs back ) I got my first PC. It had Windows XP.
After using it for 1.5 hours, I realised there are some files in C:
I said to myself, my hard disk capacity is 150GB but why some files exist in C:?
Within next 4 seconds, I issued a command to delete all files in C:
The rest you can predict :p1
The hard part of participating in an open source project is finding out how to build it for the first time.2
Handling date and time input on a web app is hard. And when you need to handle a range, it becomes even harder.
There are several date formats and 2 time formats, and various ways of validating the input (pattern, min, max).
You'll also need to make sure that the start date-time comes before the end date-time.
But still, no matter how much you validate on the client-side, it's still possible to bypass it, so you need to validate on the server-side as well 😫2
I love hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal... But I can't concentrate listening Metallica or Slayer. I used to study with electronic music, but really I don't like this music. Finally I found a solution. I'm listening videogames soundtracks like Diablo or Ocarina of Time and I feel better with myself.
What a nostalgic feeling!!!4
Making an MVP is hard as hell. It's not even coding that makes it hard, it's knowing when to stop that's so damn difficult. By the time you're ready with something, your brain says "Hey...wouldnt it be great if you added this!" Then you add it, "whoa add this too!"...several days later:
Brain: "The fuck is this, all you needed was that"
Have you noticed that mac users rarely use full screen mode? Its so hard to use that they just leave half sized windows, its so annoying when I have to ask every time if they can make it bigger18
Mixing lazy loading with event-based code == events won't be handled because the class won't subscribe to events until it's initialized hours after startup
Thank you, my dear lazy-loading lover, who keeps introducing hard-to-spot bugs everywhere. I wish your hand was as lazy as your code, that would have saved hours of debugging time.1
The new MacBook Pro's front is NOT metal. It's made out of some plastic despite looking like brush metal.
I learnt this the hard way when i accidentally ran my keys across it and gave it a nasty scratch.
Every time i see it, i feel an irritable itch that i can't scratch.
Luckily, i have the perfect bandage.24
Lesson learned the hard way: Remember your SSH Ports or write them down...
On the bright side of things, i had backups this time! Tyy DigitalOcean :)8
I feel like we developers (and people who create things in general) are doomed to not have enough time 😥
I have to be honest, I've got a hard time dealing with that
I think my hard drive is going to die.
My laptop takes 15 minutes to start up and it takes a fucking long time to open any program but once they're opened they run pretty well... And it does since two weeks ago!
This is a hdd related problem, isn't it?13
Anyone else having a hard time switching between languages? :/
if(this.isActive and this.isVisible):
Java, JS and SQL at work, Python in my own projects...10
Last day of internship:
"You will not become a developer, at best you will be a code writter".
That struck hard at the time.5
How do you judge the ability of the candidates during the interview?
Sometimes I find it hard to score their ability. I have seen some candidates with x years on paper yet does not know git more than push and pull.
Also there are few who didnt do very well at the interview, however we hired and doing quite well at work.
(As I also had a hard time getting a job before, I sometimes feel bad to reject some who seems to have good personality but didnt do well at work)6
Here's an advice to you guys:
Ever look at your mailbox and think it's so full of junk?
Archive all your current emails.
Then next time you get any spam emails take the time to unsubscribe or block the sender.
Trust me, life is so much better after you've got rid of those craps. And it's not that hard like it seems. In a week you'll probably get rid if 90% of those.3
Wtf is wrong with me? Last night, I had a very hard time falling asleep even though it was 3am.
Today, I've now been laying in my bed for over 2 hours, and I'm not even close to falling asleep. It feels like my brain wants to think over every possible scenario of what could happen tomorrow...
Please send help...11
If you look over at my desk and I am 'doing nothing', feel free to assume one of the following:
1) I finished what I had to do and am taking a quick break before tackling what's next.
2) I am working on something that is giving me a hard time and am taking a quick pause to refresh.1
just need to say this: It's GNU/Linux folks. I know, I know, it's not as easy to say when you want to talk about it, but every once in a while give the damn GNU a little credit. Without it we might not have Linux as we know it, so show some love from time to time, it's not that hard to say GNU/Linux.12
Excel is the best worsy fucking software. It has every feature you can think of except the one you actually need. Every time I use I end up yelling at my poor laptop. Even things that should be simple are made impossibly hard and unmanageable.7
Do you live alone? Do you work hard and barely have time to do things?
Please tell me how you eat 3 meals of healthy food. If you do of course..9
Having a hard time in an internal test of our app. I thought all okay, but there is some bug, every time. Internal test team, well done.
People have a hard time realizing we do have to cover (at least try) all the possibilities... Yes ma'am I do have to know everything beforehand...
Spent ten plus years professionally coding, used c, go , python, openwhisk ,docker, kubernetes and God know what else. Now I have to convince those team members who coded so far in their free time that write fucking clean code, avoid dependency on distributed and hard coded configuration, how to build a product
Fuck my life4
Its hard for a developer. Started to learn a new framework or CMS. By the time one gets familiar and fluent, a new and better one is already out.2
So... My boss is "hard working", meaning that she'd rather edit and upload a html file every morning at 5am for the last 5 years and manually send a push notification notifying the user that the new file is up than learning a little bit about automation (cron? IFTTT?) and even after letting her know about those options she has "no time"
She'd rather keep source code (pug, sass), manually build on local computer and upload to live servers instead of learning git and letting me setup once and for all CI/CD
SERIOUSLY!?!? NO TIME!?!? But there's time to do things at a turtle pace like in the 90s... 🤦♂️5
Okay, friends. I have a challenge. Who can make the sneakiest memory leak example? I need to stump a class of students with something only valgrind can find and I'm having a hard time.5
Luckily I don't work at a place like this anymore, but I sure hate it when a company touts that they are an effective company who has implemented agile "the right way", then when they describe their process in detail, it is almost exactly the opposite of what agile is supposed to be.
I've worked for a couple places that just couldn't get their head around the fact that one of the reasons agile exists is because estimating software is hard, and only after doing agile the real right way for an extended period of time can a company expect to have realistic estimates. The business can't go a week without hard deadlines.2
Being 26 learning to code with intention to do it for a living is hard, I wish I never gave up the first time I attempted to learn a programming language when I was 16 I'd probably be making a shit ton of money...12
Same as the year before.
Trying hard to achieve good grades in school. Nothing special. The usual shit, as you can see...
Thanks for taking your time and read my unnecessary post anyways ;)
As of late I'm creating private game servers on my local network in my free time for fun / relaxing
I've already running:
a World of Warcraft vanilla;
Travian version 3;
And I am currently working on a conquer online private server, but getting the right client for it is the hard part...4
My worst and yet kinda best experience. Internship.
Me: I mean I had this idea of [ this ] but I could never do this myself.
He: You got me. Do this now.
Two times. One time in the job interview as a "challenge" to get the job (model+sculpt a 3D head) and once for a clients website (parallax (from scratch)).
It was hard but I'm glad I made it and learned a lot these weeks..
Hey if you want something to make you feel better on Valentine's Day, do a google image search of photoshopped girlfriends/boyfriends. I laugh so hard I tear up every time.
Me coding and researching to fix new things everyday and people come to me saying:
"You are working too much"
And I'm thinking: actually, its a never ending learning job, I dedicate so much because almost everyday I learn at least one thing.
But knowing that non-tech people have a hard time around it I just answer: yeah.3
Why is it so hard to remember, that devs need an error message if they should help you. just saying "it does not work" is not helping.
I even wrote you a checklist. so f*ing use it! I'm not there to be called every time just to tell you to do something that's already on this list.
Every. F**ing. Time.2
Why is it so hard to convice coworkers (other programmers) to use source control? Yes it's an extra step every day or so but it can be so helpful and save so much more time tracking down versions and when the bug first appeared. Also, piece of mind if your computer every gets hosed.7
So it’s been a few months now since I first started learning to code and I am losing steam FAST. For the first couple months I couldn’t tear myself away from my screen and now I’m having a hard time forcing myself to even open my computer!!
What are some things you’ve done to get yourself past that rut?7
Most ridiculous reason you have been sacked...go!
Had a 1:1 about performance, said i was not performing well, showed them proof, they took the proof and sacked me anyway.
The real reason because the fuck headed lead dev stepped over the line for the last time and i laid into him pretty hard.3
OH MAN it feels so fucking good achieving something with electronics, especially because I have a really hard time learning it by myself
In two weeks of christmas holidays my brain had enough time to fire the guy that was in charge of my sleep pattern and to hire a new guy with less experience that is really trying hard to fix the mess that has been left for him.
Went to bed at 5am...
Woke up at 9am...
I'm getting there!4
Im kinda hard of hearing, so every time I hear someone talk I subconsciously concentrate on the conversation instead of what I was working on.2
Funny story: Me and my dev friend once had a hard time setting up a PS3 controller even though we were two CS majors24
After I took some time off from work, I decided to accept the offer for maintenance of two projects. Those are from two old clients, so I think I will not stress too much, since I know what to expect most of the time.
The issue is, sometimes I have a hard time to keep concentration. In the past, I could work for 3h straight, totally focused, would pause for 20min for stretch, and then come back to work. Now I can only focus for 30min or 1h, and after a pause, it's hard to concentrate again.
There is a lot going on in my life right now, and I know the worry is probably distracting me. I'm trying to listen instrumental music, drinking coffee... But that's not enough. Somebody has any tip?6
Friend (Computer Science student) - Dual boot my Windows 10 with Ubuntu
Me - I will, but chances are something bad may happen. Mostly it does not. I advise you to backup everything first.
Friend - But I don't even have an external hard drive.
Me - So what do you want me to do?
Friend - Forget it. I'll figure how to do my work in Windows
Me - But how else are you going to learn?
Friend - Ain't nobody got time for that!2
Lesson Learned: Don't ever be so ambitious that you are no longer realistic about your abilities. I remember when I started out, I would give unbelievably short TTC estimates for medium/hard tasks that would undoubtedly take some time.3
Why do I have a hard time finding a new job when senior devs are not only changing the data model, but naming keys "key" and "value"!?
"Oh look, a SQL error."2
So re-installed linux on my PC while I had the time only to discover that my windows installation had installed it's boot manager onto the linux installs hard drive... So of course it all got deleted and I can't access my windows partition because I can't get linux to create a bootable windows drive...
Today is just fucking great isn't it .-.11
Sometimes I wish I could clone myself 3 times and start a company. Not that I think that I'm that smart, I'm fucking clueless most of the time. But because it's so hard to find people who freaking READ THE DOC!2
The day I understand how CSS works will be a lifetime achievement...!!!
Having hard time when you have to design and develop a website at a time... I just hate designing... (No offense.. personal opinion)7
Anyone ever wondered how hard it is to fill feedbacks and performance growth of your own, which the manager will be evaluating..
The situation is so ironic.. u want to write the best about you, but don't want to look like bragging abt yourself in the same time..4
Been thinking about how to detect sounds for weeks and finally got enough time and motivation to do a Google search... and find an entire example....
All that thinking and worrying for nothing.... now i just gotta figure out how to install PyAudio.... hope it's not hard.... or maybe I already have it installed....8
Wow.... FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!
I just destroyed my raspberry. Miscalculated the resistor I need and RiP. Took 2 seconds and BOOOOM. Nothing is working anymore :( 2 weeks of wasted free time. Guess I'll have to buy a new one. Want to finish my project so hard11
Just been cleaning out an old cupboard and found the book that really helped me to understand OOP ... Python for absolute beginners .. Before I picked it up, I was having a hard time getting my head around it all. Good times, good book :)
EVERY FUCKING TIME I HAVE TO ASK FOR SOME DNS CONFIGURATION OTHER THAN A SINGLE "A" RECORD THE TI HEAD MANAGES TO FUCK UP...
WHAT THE FUCK IS SO HARD DUDE???
FUCKINGSUBDOMAIN > FUCKING.ALIAS.COM
THIS TIME OUR FUCKING PROVIDER CANT MANAGE ROOT DOMAIN CNAMES SO WHAT DID HE DO?
SIMPLE SAID "ALL DONE" AND ONE WEEK LATTER PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING BECAUSE THE FUCKING ROOT DOMAIN ISN'T WORKING...
COME ON DUDE, JUST KILL YOURSELF.
AND FOR THE FUCKING MILLIONTH TIME: DOMAIN REGISTAR AND DOMAIN MANAGER ARE TWO SEPARATE FUCKING THINGS! YOU CAN REGISTER YOUR FUCKING DOMAIN ON GODADDY AND MANAGE IT ON FUCKING CLOUDFLARE BY CONFIGURING THE FUCKING DNS SERVERS5
What on earth are some developers thinking. Was just browsing the Casio website, using Chrome and noticed the following message. How hard is it to display a message when actually needed, instead of all the time. Good watches, poor development :/2
I want to kill myself.
I just had the 2nd try for the math exam and I'll likely also not pass this time,
Means 1 try left and then i have to drop out of college.
I even did prepare way better this time than for the first try, and still the exam was so damn hard.4
I'm working on a rev share game, something I think could be really good but I don't have the personal funds to really throw myself into. I've spent so much time finding a team and getting everyone on the same page, and they all seem really excited about the project.
Now, however, I'm having so much trouble getting them to put in any effort and meet deadlines. I've tried searching for more people but it's so hard to get people into a project like this, and all of the incentives and work I put into getting them to work are ineffective.
Managing a project is fucking hard.2
First time setting up a linux distro for myself I decided to do it on an external hard drive. Accidentally formatted the whole thing. Lost 200gb of anime.
I restored about 60% soon aftet meeting up with a friend of mine. But it was still devastating.7
So i've been working with OOP and now that i have some free time i decided to learn Golang.... Great language but at the beginning was really hard to go back to the non OOP.9
The time at university I was kind of burned out all the time.
I was far away from being a hard-working student, I needed more than double time to finish, but I constantly had a feeling of being stressed.
My free time never felt like free time because I thought I should learn/do something for the university.
Now at work, I can spend my free time without feeling guilty. Sure, I also have to think about problems at work sometime and I still should learn something to get better, but now I can focus on stuff I'm really interested in.2
For the fucking millionth time!!!
Backup != slave-master replication you dumb fuck...
What the fuck is so hard to understand after countless explanations using fucking drawings and shit?
No matter the hard work you want to do, how much time you want and really spend to complete something, always a scumbag project manager will set the dates so that you won't make it in f*ing time!! Really now, it is frustrating!!
Well, I moved to a new company and all seems vanilla. But you know. Now I have this lesson to remind myself.4
You will get far more rejections than acceptance. A lot of the time it has more to do with the interviewer and not the candidate (assuming the candidate is a genuine hard worker). The job search process is similar in this regard to finding a mate or compiling your code.
Keep moving forward!
I know change is hard. I know time is precious. But if you're not using ES6 now, you're getting left behind.4
Having a hard time deciding whether to get a mechanical keyboard for work or not... Satisfying typing and annoyed coworkers, or shitty apple keyboard cancer...4
WHY IS IT SO FUCKING HARD TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE FROM MEGACORPS??
Yes, am looking at you EMC, Oracle and IBM. Either they have tons of portals-e-delivery-shittorama or their softwares suddenly disappear for n amount of time without notice. Mix this up with broken links or CONSTANTLY REBRANDING YOUR SHITTY PRODUCTS SO YOU NEED TO HIRE A PERSONAL ASSISTANT THAT ONLY WORKS WITH TRACKING THESE PORTALS TO HELL
Also, your websites are slow as shit.
Client: Thank you for this and all your hard work we will review and get back to you EOP Friday before final submit.
Us: We have been working to a deadline and have actually finished early which meant that we would be able to submit on Friday, at the very least by the afternoon. One question...is this your time EOP Friday?
Us: That'll be 2 in the morning here and a Saturday.2
It's been 1 week since I started my first Job. Currently I am given task to do bug fixes on WordPress. In 1 week time I am already under extreme pressure. Today is Friday and I need to look at 3 different projects. Plus on top of this I am new to WordPress. I sometimes go home and continue the work to meet the strict deadline. God this is hard!!3
It's Friday, I just want to go home and work on my side project.
At the end of the day some co-workers ask me to join for a beer. It's too hard to resist, it's just one beer. Just one beer? Who am I lying to? Its probably going to end the same way as last friday and the friday before that.
This is why I don't have time to work on my side projects.
I don't look forward to the headache tomorrow.
It's too hard to say no.
Does anyone of you feel the same way?5
My productivity is dying for want of a second monitor. I've been hooking up a new-ish HP external LCD to my brand new HP Spectre laptop. Every time I do this, the laptop soon locks up. Won't launch programs, won't even let me click the Windows button to restart. Have to hard reset and go back to single 15" screen. THEY'RE THE SAME BRAND?! WHY ARENT THEY COMPATIBLE?!4
Vim + Tmux = Heaven. I love it.
I'm also getting better at the hotkeys (and there are A LOT of them) so it's a really nice experience when you can do things faster than using a IDE. I only missed the auto complete, so it's very very hard sometimes (DB connection for example).
I may look crazy for going back on time using it but it's so good i can't stop.2
*Looking for free advice*
I'm going to buy a MacBook Pro.
I'm having a hard time in choosing whether I should buy 2015 one or the 2016 one. Is not having enough ports really such a big issue?
Also, is there going to be a new MacBook Pro launch at the WWDC? :p5
Every time I assign the tasks to my subordinate. He always tells me that it's too hard to understand or make it done. Where is his endeavor?3
Dear every app developer or web managers/designers that can read this.
Specificly, the ones who own a android app.
If you have an old android app that is still updated from time to time.
Please, take your time for just one minute.
AND REPLACE YOUR GOD DAMN OLD "Get it on google play" BADGE WITH THE NEW ONE, PLEASE! ITS NOT THAT HARD, WHY ARE YOU GUYS NEVER UPDATE TO NEW LOGOS?!
NOT JUST OLD APPS, EVEN SOME BEW STARTUPS ARE ACTUALLY USING THE OLD BADGE, WHY OH DEAR GOD WHY! WERE YOU LIVING UNDER ECLIPSE ROCK OR SOMETHING?!?1
Damn he still hasn't spoken to me, must be over a week now, normally he can't stop talking to me. I must have really pissed him off telling him it is company policy to not give juniors global admin access on all our servers. He's going to have a hard time in life if he keep that attitude up.4
Coding is easy, but it's the logic which gives us a hard time. Because in the end what we write needs to make sense or it's tits up for everyone.1
Ok worked really hard and understood how to use this tool today
Welp its old now time to learn the next 'new' tool 😄1
Years ago was the first time I put custom firmware on our wndr3700 router, it hasn't crashed since.
I bought a wndr4700, faster, 5ghz, possibility for a hard drive.
It's been 3 years and still no custom firmware.
I've been watching that "Mr Robot" lately, and its warped my sensibilities. Now, whenever I see something ridiculous, like "I've got the hard drive here" (holds up PSU), I'm irrationally angry and won't watch the rest of the show. I wish more producers would spend the time to build that sort of realism4
first was with people who wanted to host a hackathon. no one even coded a simple hello world application. not even tried to google it with the free internet access available. second time was only one other developer and myself with a bunch of people wanting to claim their fame. pitching alot of ideas but none wanted to do the hard graft.
How do you remove oily keys on keyboard?
What I’ve tried so far are rub it using a pencil eraser and clean it using cotton with alcohol.
Damn. I’m having a hard time to remove it.7
So... in the last few months i shared the office with a real estate company. I didnt pay rent and in exchange i would help them with different stuff.... on monday i will be moving into my own office again... damn it was a hard period of time and i want to thank devRant for helping me keep my sanity. THANK YOU!2
Why is it so hard to explain to people that
The speed of time = 60 minutes / hour
I mean, I didn't come up with this shit!!! Come on
Also, in other annoyances of today:
VS code updated and ended with a crash, even tho it now says it's actually updated... Should I trust this bitch or not?!?!
I was suffering from a fever days. But i had a Algo to implement in my company. I worked so hard to solve it. With the time my fever get to the worst level bu i didn't give up. Finally I solved and day after that i felt better with my disease and next day it was vanished. #algo #miracle2
Me after a long time without coding:
"I need to do this thing multiple times, shit how do I do this??"
After a few seconds of hard thinking:
"Loop exists...wtf is wrong with me.."1
Fucking windows crashed during a competitive match and I had to hard restart my machine hoping to be able to reconnect in time only to find out windows fucking wants to fucking update. FUCK2
Trying to dual boot windows 10, won't allow me to install to the hard drive I select, tells me to see the log. Look in log, won't let me install to that drive because it's not my primary drive, why not just tell me in the error message then wasting my time finding how to find the logs!!!2
Went to my favorite scrapyard but it's hard to catch my friends here (I worked here for 6 months, learned a lotttttt). I always leave a surprise. This time I also brought aluminum to give so I much hide the bag and I'm placing a ridle.. This bottle in the front door. Let's see if they get it3
Maaaaan recently my thoughts are all over the place. So much stuff going on right now, and even tho I am an organized person I have a hard time to get everything done and sticking to my self-made deadlines. yikes.3
...making that tic tac toe game from the FreeCodeCamp 4 last projects for the certificate.
Never thought it would be so hard, today i made the winning system, felt good but I have no idea on the "ai".
Time to take a break.
Code is on my Github, forgot to push the system today, i ll do it tomorow.7
*Writing JS validation*
step1: testing for the 1st time
Chrome: all good
Firefox: with bug
IE: ugh... it's hard to explain
step2: fixing script
Chrome: all good
Firefox: all good
IE: with bug
step3: fixing script for IE
Chrome: with bug
Firefox: with bug
IE: with bug
step4: revert to step 2
Sorry, IE, but I don't know what you disliked there...
One week ago I've made a work plane to divide features development day by day, obviously procrastinating
This morning I realized the project release was today
I made an entire mobile app with a plethora of features without bugs in an afternoon.
Never worked so hard in a so limited time without problems.
I'm astounded. I just took a crack at some PHP logic that would be easy for a lot of you but hard for my math-and-logic-challenged brain.
The first time.
I would ask the question of how hard can life get but last time i asked that, life showed me how hard can life get and that was just the tip of the iceberg
Went for an interview yesterday, the interviewer was trying to speak in British accent, it was really bad. I was cringing the whole time.
Trying really hard to forgot then whole awful experience... :D
I hope someone tells the poor guy, how bad that accent sounds.
Wtf is happening to tech security... Last 4 months
All WiFi is now crackable. .. in short amount of time
Windows . . Annihilated with this new bug might not be fixable... and work back on all of them
iPhones cracked ...
Linux dirty cow ...
Android been suffering.
And everyone knows Mac's security is joke ...
Finger prints ... Made pointless on everything.
Literally all going to shit .. 😐
And I know how to do all this... It's all out in the open not even hard to find8
You know you should tidy up some space when your ssd has more space left then your hard drive
I still have a second hard drive, but I'm too lazy to move either my steam games or my programs over there...
The time will hit me when the last GB has been used1
First time coding in a team for a larger project. Any tips on how to handle this? We're six programmers and its really hard for us to work together :/
It's my first rant. I love the community :D9
I have a really hard time staying focused reading through legacy code. As a result, I often miss many subtle details about how a given system is currently functioning.
I am working as designer, doing psd to html stuffs and i'm having hard time when the developers inject their own css inside the html elements (inline) and broke the responsiveness4
How to go from manual test cases to automation is NP-Hard. Figuring out we have less time than we need is not.
Ain't no sunshine when it stops..
Ain't no sunshine when it bug's,
And it always crashes too hard,
Any time my coffee's away..1
Every developer thrives to be the best. But, it's not only the skills, hard work or knowing infinite languages makes you the best. It only makes you the good.
Along with skills, hard work & the languages, the best one needs to have those instincts about the possible solutions to a problem and ability to decide and implement the most efficient solution cleanly in least amount of time.
I'm thriving to be the best. Are you?3
Today is one of those days I am having a really hard time to get started. I have been doing frontend dev for the last week and today is more of the same. I absolutely hate frontend work. Sigh. At some point I will get started I suppose.1
About these long long *video* conf calls ... Not only is hard to pay attention after some time. ... you need to *look* like you are paying attention all the time. 😒4
Getting hard time to understand std::vector and even more confusing with multidimensional vector.
Going back to array. 😪4
Deployed first time on Azure and it really hard to deploy lots of changes/setting need to done before publishing website.2
Had multiple calls with a Google recruiter, I had my reasons for not being super interested and he suggested I think it over for the weekend. The next Monday he calls back for the third or fourth time and after politely telling him I wasn't too excited about the nasty commute it would require he muttered "what the fuck is wrong with you?" and slammed the phone down so hard I swear he must have broken the base unit.3
So, where do you guys store your passwords?
It's getting hard to keep track of so many logins and passwords now that I have the time to learn, try new stuff, meddle with VPS and shit and I can't keep track of everything.
Ps: must save somewhere online (or at least backups) and be multi platform (windows + Linux + Android11
Hard day because flashing of my android failed yesterday night and haven't time the whole day to fix it but it was a very productive day at the office ;)3
So much for that.
✖️ My razor broke and I haven't bought a new one or bothered to use a disposable one, so I have a beard for now.
✖️ My girlfriend broke up with me, after dating for a super long one week and three days.
It's hard when you devote yourself solely to one person for almost a year and upon taking a step forward, it triggers thoughts and evaluations in her mind and she concludes we're not meant to be. We're still friends, neither of us wanted to lose that, but it's going to be hard for me, especially with her moving 20 minutes away next month (for something unrelated to me). I'm not mad in the least, but the heartbreak has had a major effect on me all way.
On the "plus" side I have more time, time I would have spent talking to her. I still don't have more money than before.1
im feeling dizzy and sick as fuck both physically and mentally from this fucking college and im not even exaggerating
last time i asked how hard can life get was also the first and last time i asked that
So my friends laptop had a long crack on his screen from mid left of the screen, squiggle around to bottom left. Every time he boots to the login screen, he struggles to enter his password. Because the crack affected the laptop's touchscreen, it's not emitting a touch event at the bottom left of the screen every time. He did finally managed to get the password in afterwards, and struggled to get to device manager and disabled the touchscreen driver, then later uninstalled it.
TLDR; had a hard time using his laptop because it was touching itself.1
Is anyone else having a hard time finding another job after working as a full stack developer for a few years?4
I just failed the same maths module for the second time
At this point after working really hard and even getting a private tutor I really think I'm not cut out for this shit.I just don't know what to do right now.6
Is it harder to work a full time dev job or be a full time CS student with a part time dev job? I’m currently living the second one and it’s hard to balance both work and school.7
Went to the client meeting for the first time. Neve saw a group of people collectively trying hard Not to make a point.2
I work 8-9 hours a day. With my PMs love for contextual switching I avg 6 hours of client billable time.
Debating if I should bother having this talk with them. My PMs a fcn bull dog which makes things hard. Can’t address anything without it being a bull taking session.4
Hello dear fellow programmers,
Lately I'm faced with an issue: i can't code. It takes me a really long time to get my codeengine running and it stops on the first occasion, it either be a cigarette pause, a question from a coworker or what ever.
I love code and I have a blast when I start but I have a hard time starting it.
What to do? I'm a bit at a loss here1
I have hard time focusing at all. I can't even focus 100% when I am driving my bike. My mind tend to go other issues or thoughts when I am doing anything in my life.
Any tip to improve my focus on the current task.14
I spend these last moments with all the memories I have collected.
Farewell my laptop's hard drive!
I wish I had your back (up) this time...9
What's your opinion on TypeScript? I'm having a hard time figuring out if it's worth using for a React side project5
*me to myself* okay this time I'm not solving that problem with recursion. The assignment is hard enough already.
*A ton of sweat, blood and hours later* Whoops.
When your project manager accepts a contract with a client with a hard deadline but the time needed is nearly twice.8
Don't you just love those people who sell projects which require months and months of hard work with a due date of two whole fucking months?! And worst of all, they act all fucking surprised when the project is not finished on time and it contains loads of bugs because of lack of testing time. Drives me insane..
Cognitive overload: the silent slayer of developers.
Especially when you're bad at assessing your own capabilities and choose to sacrifice sleep without concern for taking actual time to enjoy the silence and tranquility of.. nothing.
Sometimes it's pretty hard to not go mad when those old gods whisper your demise.
So on Friday I completed my last day of full time employment to break out into the world of freelance. Sunday night my PSU decides life is too hard and cooks itself... Is this a sign of things to come?
AMAZON PRIME ALL THE THINGS!
Left my pc unlocked. My group mates changed my Facebook language to Arabic. Had a hard time changing it back :/1
Ubuntu mate looks good. But man its so hard to remove it. A simple apt-get remove didnt do the trick. Spent a long time removing all packages. Still it is there in the login screen. Let it stay there. I am tired.5
My class schedule was really hard to figure out (since I'm a double major with tons of timing conflicts), so I made my computer do it for me. I was gonna make a GUI and sell it to my school, but I got distracted halfway through and never finished.
RIP schedule solver, I'll see you when it comes time to make next semester's schedule...
Am I the only one that has a hard time with front end development? I'm trying to learn Qt using PySide and it's kicking my ass.12
When you finished work, go home, chill for an hour, make some food, sit down to eat and then it hits you hard: "Fuck when I deployed I forgot to implement the (var something;) feature!!! NOOOO" and then it haunts you the whole time haha
Thank you React...for making easy things easier, hard things easier, and medium level things so flipping overkill that somewhere in the world a developer loses their wings every time you type "setState".
I never thought that my usual lunch buddies/co-interns leaving would cause me to have a hard time coping up. I'm very unproductive these past three days. I feel so sad.
questions for those hard core lazy geeks, I'd like to try out raspberry pi. what's the most crazy use cases in you mind but yet no way to find time to do it? if I get rid of my laziness, I may do it, no promises😜17
I was wondering how many of you work out. I have met many of developers but so far very few of them actually work out. And yes I know how hard is to connect full time job and health life :D so how it is in your case?15
I've seen a lot og images om devRant lately that are shitty pictures taken with the mobile camera - the last I saw was a picture of Stack Overflow. Come on my fellow devs, screenshotting is not that hard and time consuming. We are supposed to not be computer-illiterates :D
Merry Christmas by the way!2
I'm having such hard time adjusting with hybrid mobile development coming from native it frustrates meeeee :(11
Today I had the regional stage of the Romanian Olympics of Informatics.
There were 3 problems supposedly : 1 easy , 1 hard and 1 insane.
I spent time only on the "easy" one
No one took more than 50/100 at that problem :'(4
Maybe someone can help me with this...
I have been doing design for three years and coding for two years now, and recently, two months back I have developed an interest in electronics.
I have a real hard time trying to figure out which dev field to pursue! It seems like I just fall into anything that intrigues me!!9
Why does it have to be so incredibly hard to get an nvidia card to work under Linux? The driver is in available, we have the technology but every time I try to get this damned thing to work I end up in front of a fucked XServer and this stupid "Something went wrong" gdm screen only to apt-purge nvidia from my drive and start from the beginning once more.6
Java apparently thinks it would be too convenient if we would use comparison operators on enumerations.
If you have to use the .ordinal() every time you want to do such a thing, you make the code uglier that you're trying to clean up to begin with!
Time to do this the hard way:
public static final int YELLING = 0;
public static final int SCREAMING = 1;
Not to dislike 9 to 5 developers who have no passion for their craft and leech my hard work and knowledge while getting mad at me for not taking my time to sit with them and explain every small aspect of their tools to them that they should already know after having used them for 15+ years.
Recently i finished college and got a job as an ASP.NET dev in a company.
The company uses ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core and angular.
I've worked with flask, express and PHP but very new to C# and .NET.
I've learned C# but I'm having hard time understanding ASP.NET.
The documentation seems very hard for me.
Could someone please suggest some resources for asp.net and .net core6
There was this time when I had to solo a couple of group projects. I worked so hard to the point I felt like barfing whenever I sit down in front of my desk and see code. I thought to myself: screw this career!4
Studying and working at tge same time is hard. I woke up before seven, spend 6 hours studying for exam I have tomorrow, now I'm going to office, and when I get back at 7pm I have to finish project for tomorrow and study some more for exam. Hate days like this one4
I still don't know what back-end vs front-end is. I have a hard time understanding terms like that when it comes to programming jobs; I just like to program. Could anyone help explain these to me and give examples?8
Every time I see this kind of flow:
1) Insert a new record
2) Get MAX(Id) as the inserted records Id
3) Operate with the result (possibly adding related entities and such)
I sigh so hard, it hurts.1
We've all seen the people with names like 'Chutia', or 'Boob', but today I came across a person with a surname as 'Shit'. :/
Facebook is going to have a hard time with that one.
Having hard time to make my friend understand that you don't need to build everything from scratch and we can get started for free with commercial solutions for speech recognition and only pay when we have a decent userbase. The worst part is he doesn't believe it even when it is clearly written on the website.3
Hello everyone. I was just wondering whether or not I should learn angular (first one) or just dive into angular2. Angular 4 is on the way and I have a feeling that I will have a hard time to adapt. I am a bit confused about what to do.8
i was around 10 year old. That time we used to use ms dos for drawing lines, traingle and stuff using commands that will print on execution . I was having hard time understanding it . I went to my father and asked for help. He taught me how it works and everything is logic only nothing else. That was life changing movement for me. Use to score very good in computers then on . Now a full time web developer
I just want to blow off steam here,
Its hard to make a dynamic form with just 2 and a half day of time considering the coding for backend and front end and also mobile responsive. Its very frustrating and the same time im dissapointed in my self but i think its not entirely my fault its hard to do all those task with such little time and a lot of things to consider
When I first got started in web development I had to think really hard to write code to solve real world problems. It was rewarding and creative process. Nowadays most of my time is spent just trying to get bloated frameworks and plugins to play nice with one another! I hope the pendulum swings back at some point.
If you have a hard time remembering your password, just make it the error message you would typically receive. For example, if you type in an incorrect password it will tell you "your password is incorrect" aha you can quickly remember that your password is in fact "incorrect".2
having a hard time centering buttons children because firefox does not support flexbox in button element. :/
Am I the only one having a really hard time grasping code when it involves more than just a few classes devided into several files?! I simply can't follow what happens when method a in class b instantiates class c and d while implementing interface e injection dependency f and extending class g...!?
Does this make sense?
Just moved my project for the first time from a windows server to Linux. Learned the importance of case-consistency the hard way...
I just had a math test. It was incredibly hard! I donno why teachers do this! They learn us easy things and ask us hard questions.
I think I'll fail and I'm sooooo angry cause for the first time in collage i really have studied and its so unfair:/2
Fucking windows not releasing my hard drive. I was in a kind of a hurry, but you just have to be a pain in the arse. Now I even have to wait for you to fix an indexing error for something I did not agree to?
FUCKING BULLSHIT, MY DUDE NEXT TO ME USING LINUX WAS USING IT JUST FINE!
I want enough time to replace this garbage.
By the time I got here, it finished scanning for errors. NO. FUCKING. ERRORS. FOUND. FUCKING. WASTE. OF. TIME.
I don't get why my boss wants to outsource the easiest part of our next project to India. Not hating on Indian developers, but the 13 hour time difference that makes coordination unnecessarily hard.1
Why the *fuck* does everyone think every single paragraph should be centered? Yeah, sure, components, icons, things that are presentation, sure most of the time you want that centered. But not *every* time. And, especially, never when the content is body copy text. That shit is hard to read, dammit! And yet I swear every single non-technical person and marketer I've known wants everything to be centered.
Not learning how to study and focus on something at High Schools. I'm learning the hard way, i often don't have time to plan a thing as i wish, i just have to do a quick plan, hope for the best, and eventually learn something in the end.
Damn it man! It's fucking hard to work 8h per day, learn a programming while being at faculty.
Hope one day all my efort and time will be rewarded.2
I started this project almost a year ago and soon found out that it is the most boring shit ever. So I tortured myself with it to a point on which now I don't get any stuff done because it is so hard for me to continue. Hope I can finish this soon. The only time I'm productive on this is at night... Which isn't the best time to code as a student.
I transitioned from js to c# about 4 weeks ago for my first job in the industry. It has been a really rough 3 weeks for someone who hasn't had any OOP experience. I've been trying really hard to ramp up, but I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around some of the advance c# topics (e.g. interface, extension methods, etc.) Does anyone have good resources or advice to help me get my feet wet?5
I'm so happy. A month ago I started my apprenticeship, today I published the first version of my application for my company in the Google Play Store.
It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1
Confession : I swear -> my sweet Arch Linux was freeze in my laptop in my super lightweight tty env + tmux after about to quit demonstrate my friend about vim in vimtutor on yesterday.
(1st freeze after 1 half a year of using it. Maybe something wrong about my rot potato, but hey -> its a things ;)
(no data lost after hard reboot after all.)
(First time it failed without me thinker it ;) -> Its not my fault Jim~)12
My number one problem whenever I need to write original unique code is this question: "What's the next line supposed to say?"
I just really have a hard time knowing what the next thing is I'm supposed to write, even when I know pretty well what the thing is supposed to do.
Taht moment when you finally have time for that github project, when you done all your changes requested, and you're proud that your local tests are all green... you commit into that project, you push it real hard , long and passionately deep...
and then i apparently hit travis in the nose... Cause he keeps running for -
How do you guys concentrate for a long time? Do you use a timer or what do you do. I get a hard time concentrating more then 30 minutes. After that it's hard to get back into the flow.3
I work very hard to the point I have no medical leave in all the time I have been working, I take do I get any respect nope at every opportunity I get shat on, blamed for everything today I was told off for thinking.5
Alright! Tell me something you think is worth knowing in IT, but at the same time is hard to find/get knowledge of.1
Trying to learn AdonisJS. Looks like a really cool framework, but having a really hard time how all of it really comes together. I get the model-view-controller philosophy that Adonis abides by, but not really how it's implemented.
God damn...if you want to be a developer learn using git and fucking STOP messing up the repo every time you push something.
Understand the importance of branches and use 'em so the problems you're causing are isolated and stop commiting / pushing on master....ITS NOT THAT HARD TO READ THE FUCKING CONTRIBUTION GUIDELINES!!!3
Me and my study group have been developing a system for a company the last semester, but the system isn't done at the end of the semester (which is fine) and the company have mentioned that they want to pay us to finish the system.
The problem is that we have a very little knowledge about how much time it is going to take.
So what are we gonna say? It's pretty hard to calculate a price and estimate any time frame2
A time when I struggle HARD with a PHP project because I still was learning it, so I asked on one of the worst french forum (without knowing its reputation), and I found one guy who helped me a LOT, then helped me outside the forum (Skype), and since then we remained friend and I taught him Ruby on Rails 😊
So friday night, kids and wife asleep, no alarm for tomorrow, spotify works (VPN does what it should do), tasks went well this week (nothing is burning, nobody is pissed off), good time to learn something new... any suggestions? PARTY HARD!!!3
Saw my colleague debugging. He's got a try-catch, then I asked, "Why aren't you logging the stack trace?". He answered, "I don't cause it will be a security risk". So there he was having a hard time debugging.🤯
Can you guys confirm if what he said is true?4
anyone know a good tutorial for unity and its c# api structure? i’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it and i am starting to feel stupid.3
I am in my final year of CSE degree, and it's that time of the year when I have to prepare for placements. I need motivation. I need to work hard. I need to push hard. I am not sure if I can practice hundreds of coding problem. I do not find every other question interesting. Please motivate me to work hard.1
Start learning to code with a project that is close to your hard, will make time fly and you'll learn to code much better in the same go.
Not a rant, but has anyone here had any experience developing a StyleGuide?
Having a hard time finding a generator/tool that would work.
If not I'll look into building one myself... 😬4
It's always hard to balance time between romantic affairs and programming projects when both are going on simultaneously. I've been talking to a girl at my college, and even though she doesn't take up much of my time, I still feel like it's harder to make time for my programming. I guess this is more of dating affecting my code, but I personally prioritize code over dating currently in life.
It's almost all the time but specially when there is a stupid bug i find out in production after all the efford i put on testing before release, or even worst, when the bug is not stupid, is random and just hard to tell why the fuck everything is fucked up
I'm a student and I love cms systems. So now I want to create my own website on top of one. I know html CSS JS and PHP. Can someone recommend a cms that is not so hard to learn? I know I will need time. But I appreciate fast solutions. They boost my motivation to move on :)9
Tools and programming languages are changing everyday and you have hard time to keep it up. This group is aiming to bring back the fundamental, like reading, speed reading, reading code, speed reading code, debugging, physiology and philosophy behind programming, motivation, grit and more1
Being worst in relationships and having hard time in debugging on a simple query with multiple table joins was an disaster for me
